Reviews (page 9 of 14)

Just a nice chill album to listen to through-out.

Really fun! Would be even better if I was sippin' a Cuba Libre on the beach. 4.5!

Fun pretty vibes

This is so fun

really goid, a breath of fresh air when it came out in the heyday of Britpop. seemed to be played everywhere at the time, listening to it now brings back good memories of London bars and restaurants in the late '90s. thoroughly enjoyable

Good music.

Love this Ry Cooder produced album, a classic example of how all music is relevant at some time, just needs to be brought to the attention of the larger population. Ry Cooder did for Son Cubano very much what Alan Lomax did for the Blues 60 years before and thank goodness for him and Wim Wenders for brining us the joy of this music. This record led me to "Tropical Brainstorm" the wonderful Cuban themed album by one of my favourite female singers, Kirsty MaColl. Love "Chan, Chan" "Pueblo Nuevo" "? Y Tu' Que Has Hecho" (A great song that translates as "And You're What You Have Done" "Murmulio" and of Course the Eponymous "Buena Vista Social Club" Rightfully on the list for all the right reasons.

Surprisingly, a lot of the songs here were familiar to me. Pretty good album, fun and atmospheric.

Not bad!

Nice vignette into Cuban folk music. Pretty unique situation behind the album. Impressive for an album that is completely live

5/15/2022 - ALBUM #109 Today's Album: "Buena Vista Social Club" by Buena Vista Social Club - This is a great Latin jazz album and I really just have to leave it at that. I really love getting these Latin albums on the generator because it's always a great album experience with usually great production, great performances, and personality-filled vocal performances and my analysis of the album pretty much stops there due to the language barrier. This one has a really great energy and spans a lot of musical sounds from your typical Latin jazz all the way to some stuff that I would never expect out of an album like this. Orgullecida stands out as this sort of acoustic rag-time track that honestly would not fit on this record at all if it weren't for the Spanish vocals but dang is it not energetic as hell. Overall, this is a great one to have in the background and if you know Spanish, it's a must for sure. Listen to this one if you like Jazz, or specifically Latin Jazz, and want to hear another great album. Highlights: N/A : ALL Score: 8/10 Lovely Latin Jazz

A great set and love the atmosphere and the musicianship. Music that takes me on a literal journey and away from the grey of London Town. I think I have seen the film but enjoyed the album more as it’s all about the music.

Awesome musicianship

I had this CDE on release. It was one of the sidetracks I was on when I was expanding the countries I was following musically. I really liked it on release but it actually seems less impressive now.

I saw Buena Vista Social Club perform live in the late 90s and remember thinking "Wow these guys are old!" But the the music was great and it's fitting that performers who toiled away in relative obscurity under the US embargo for decades could finally get their day. It's a pleasant surprise to discover that Campy Segundo (the oldest guy, as I remember) wrote the signature tune, Chan Chan, and it became played around the world in in bars, restaurants and brunch clubs over a decade after he first recorded it. Such a great song! I guess this album would have never been recorded if those two African Hi-Life musicians weren't denied their VISAS, leaving Ry Cooder in need of a Plan B!

I only know basic Spanish, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the tunes. Favorites: Chan Chan, De Camino a La Vereda, El Cuarto de Tula, Veinte Años, Candela

Muy bueno!

4, great

A refreshing listen from music that should be heard. I never got around to listening to this when it was released and it's the type of music I appreciate more now. A very pleasant afternoon spent transcended to Buena Vista. Nice!

Good vibes and background music, lyrics in Spanish.

Dehär går helt otroligt hårt!!!

Where do you apply for a membership?

bzbabba

Nostalgic and loving. A little samey at times though.

This album has a great Cuban cookbook in the liner notes... Good times come with black beans.

ennþá góð

I have listened to this album before. After hearing other artists and music reviewers talk about this album, I had to check it out. The music is good, and how this collaboration came to be is a great story. "Pueblo Nuevo" and "El Carretero" were the tracks I liked the best on this listen. Because of the history of this album, I won't forget that this album is out there. This might not be the music I will come back to very often, but this is quality music. I might be back again, when I'm looking for something different than what I normally listen to.

Solid album to provide atmosphere for dinner or a gathering

7/10. Something different. A great listen whilst at work and a couple of songs added to the 'chill' playlist. The music is happy, upbeat but not too intense. Some really great instrumentals on piano, guitar and sax.

Finalmente parei pra ouvir

Gostei dá para imaginar uma trilha sonora de um filme com esse álbum. Não gostei muito da música "El quarto de Tula "

This may be due to the fact that I recently returned from a trip to Mexico.... I found this album to be a very pleasant listen. This is pretty good background music: even if it is more likely to be overheard in some cheesy restaurant.

As someone who only knows about this style of music in passing, this was a nice treat to hear. Favorites: "Chan Chan", "El Cuarto de Tula", "Amor de Loca Juventud"

Son cubano. Guajira

Blinkers on listening to indie and big beat, I didn't appreciate this when it came out and never saw the associated doco by Wim Wenders. When I finally realised what amazing music this is through , I couldn't find a copy of the CD anywhere! So I bought a compilation that used other versions of the songs on there. I have a confession, I when I finally listened to this album I still preferred the compilation. There was something about those other recordings that had a rawness that gets lost on Buena Vista Social Club which at times sounds too polished. At times this album too sounds like a compilation rather than a cohesive album I do love this album though and it was instrumental in introducing people to a music mostly lost because of the pointless embargoes put on Cuba by the US. It is worth checking out the Afro Cuban Allstars if you enjoy this. They share members and recorded in the same studio around the same time. More up tempo and raw than the Buena Vista Social Club.

I liked it, nice vibes throughout.

1996 - Son Cubano, bolero, guajira, danzón

Vibes all round

Extremely pleasant throughout. I liked the jazzier parts a lot.

Just a really fun listen

A marvellous collection of Afro Cuban music beautifully produced, charming and beguiling.

This was a nice album, very relaxing to listen to. Unlike anything I've heard before.

Iconic. Nuff said.

I like this, I think a lot of this stuff is very context based. Listening to this on a grey day in Hull it’s hard to go higher than 4 stars.

pretty cool album, some songs slapped, others were a little slow Chan Chan, Murmullo and La Bayamesa were some of my favorites

Chan Chan best song

some fun mariachi jams

Oh yeah, this is great. You have to either like this style to like this, but it's fun.

Enjoyed the album quite a bit. Not the music I would typically listen to, but I am familiar with it living in the SW for 20 years. Pretty impressed, don't know how much more I will listen but will be more open to that type of music now.

Was not expecting an all Spanish album, but was pleasantly surprised.

I like this album a lot. 4 🌟

It's all in the title.

Nice jazz album, very familiar sound

gotta relisten, great ambient vibes tho

Quality album

Like a warm bath …

It`s not a modern music and i don`t understand language`s song, but i like that

this was fun, and a really welcome change. also, those guys can PLAY. i appreciate the legacy, but i definitely feel like i'm missing something not having seen the movie.

A very nostalgic album to anyone who has spent time in Cuban resorts the last 20 years. Great collection of songs as a tribute to the rich culture of Cuba.

latin jazz is always a banger

Ι normally don't listen to this genre, but there is something in this album. I really enjoyed it. The first song is a killer

some really iconic tracks and some mediocre ones that really stretched out the runtime, overall a pleasant listen tho. 7/10

8/10. Quite good, great vibe to have going in the background, and probably solid in the foreground as well, though I haven't tested that as much.

It's well-produced and all the songs sound nice, it just isn't really my style for casual listening. 7/10

Really enjoying this… another album I likely never would have listened to but really good! Some of my favorite tracks were the piano ones like Pueblo Neuvo and Buena Vista Social Club. I’ve heard some of these songs before - I think maybe in some movies?

7/10 legit.

The instrumentals are beautiful throughout. Dos Gardenias will forever be a classic.

Latin/Cuban jazz is my favorite type of jazz, just makes you want to salsa. Ok reading more about it I guess its not considered jazz? Well whatever it is it's good.

Classic Cuban latin jazz. Starts off very strong with Chan Chan but never reaches that high again. Album leans heavy on slower simmers than in-the-pocket grooves

Nice album. Not my music style but it was interesting to listen

Loved it fun funky sound like an island paradise

Bangers front to back. A little slow in the middle, but in a good way.

A classic

Nails the Latin American genre very well, a great mix of cheerful songs and more low-key somber sounds

Excellent, but I wouldn't find myself listening through the album start to finish, except as background music.

A lot of fun, really enjoyed it.

Album art: 5

This album is great but I've already listened to it before 4 stars

I actually quite like the Cubano style of music, some of which I expect is due to it playing a fairly prominent role in Breaking Bad. It has such a unique sound and style that it's instantly recognizable no matter who is singing.

Sunny day listening

interesting fusion of salsa and jazz. the pianist and guitarist are virtuosos to boot. i heuristically don't like salsa rhythms but this put me in a great move and i was groovin to it wooooohooo

Spanish language. Gorgeous instruments. Would love to wander the river walk listening to it

Gorgeou

Reminds me of Mike Irace, traveling, and Tropico 5/6

Oooooh very curious to hear this one. I remember when this came out and seeing the album cover everywhere. This is nice background music. I like. I'l put it on at breezy backyard parties.

Always enjoyed this album

I like this album, it has very cool songs in it

kinda nice ngl

Smooth grooves and vibes for days. What does that mean? I don’t know, but I really dug this. It sounds like people having a great time together, and I am here for that.

*dança com o tronco e mexendo os bracinhos*²

Un disco interesante, se nota una influencia peculiar en ciertos arreglos, principalmente en la guitarra/cuatro y en las melodias de la voz.

This album opened my eyes to Latinx music and the pure talent that these artists have is immense. Favorite songs: Chan Chan, De Camino LA Vereda, Pueblo Nuevo

Taco Tuesday!

Kannte ich schon. Ist super, lässt aber zum Ende nach

An instant classic when it came out, and an album I still regularly listen to.

Relaxing

- nice, doesnt bother you, calming - tropico and pablo escobar

Latin grooves by old boys. Best Tracks: Chan Chan, Pueblo Nuevo, Buena Vista Social Club

good one, sounds like Cuba

"!Óigame compay! No deje camino por coger la vereda" (De camino a la vereda) "Yo soy el árbol conmovido y triste" (¿Y tú qué has hecho) Increíble pero me sé como la mitad de canciones de este disco sin tener recuerdo de haberlo escuchado nunca. Un beso a Elíades Ochoa, rey.

nice latina music

Light 4! Guitars slap on this

Another fantastic jazz album! I call it jazz just because this feels like Latin Jazz. Apple is calling it Bolero. Either way, I’m digging this. I love the drum beats and the chorus lines. I felt like I was allowed into the Buena Vista Social Club. The album cover is perfect as well, fits the music just right. This is the kind of stuff I can listen to on a summer day, sipping on a drink at the beach or just hanging out with friends. A really fun album to have on. As with many Jazz type albums, I don’t have more to say than that and that I loved it.

This one was a great Latin music album. Worth it!

Compay ... etc

Great example of Afro-Cuban jazz. Pueblo Nuevo is stinky, but every other track is great. 8/10, didn't know they had 20 members.

What's not to like!? Hazy, sunny Cuban music in dreary British January.

Concept album!

Great recording, many latino great songs and themes, Cuba is in many ways linked to México and we’ve always loved the BVSC

Quisiera darles 5 en pero sería yo muy barco. De cualquier forma no tiene desperdicio.

Have you seen Chef?

Beautiful Latin sound. Didn’t have as strong as a finish as I wanted, but a pleasure to listen to regardless

Very good Cuban sound

Damn good

Writing this review last minute so it'll be a shorter one. This album has some serious classics on it! There's many songs I've heard on this before but I never knew it was this band. These songs are much more traditional and folky than our previous venture into the afro-cuban msuic scene, so this was a unique experience. This is a solid album with a lot of cuban "bangers" that create a nice and pleasant atmosphere, while expertly executed, left me wanting more artistically. But overall, I had a great time listening to it.

I feel it

Just happy vibes.

Sigo escuchando ese disco cada cierto tiempo en uno de esos dominguitos desqueahacerados.

Good album, a bit long and samey. I love the salsa vibe from a lot of it. Not amazing but solid

this is peak cuban music i really felt like i was just chilling in havana and i've never even been

Pleasant latin music

one part mariachi, one part classy as fuck dinner party music.

I'm not sure if I like this album because it's just different from so much of my music. Or if it's really that good. I think it's good.

Move your feet to the Cuban beat, unless you don’t have any feet

An alum I already know. Beautiful. I'll enjoy getting to know this again.

Finally, a jazz (adjacent) album! This one’s a classic for sure, brings me back to my Afro Latin & Carribbean Music course I took at Columbia.

Chill. Vibes. Feeling the roots.

8/10 FT: Amor de loca juventud

3/1 Great album, wish I was there. Standout Tracks: El Cuarto de Tula, Dos Gardenias, Veinte Años, Candela, Amor de Loca Juventud, Buena Vista Social Club

5/10 For some reason for a few decades now I thought Buena Vista Social Club was an early 2000s indie/emo band so today's discovery that it's instead a Cuban ensemble supergroup is kind of messing with my mind. Why did I think that? Where did that idea come from? Why didn't I try listening to the group back in like 2005? I don't know. Anyways, the album is fine. I don't find it particularly interesting or outstanding, but it's certainly listenable. For some reason - and call me crazy - I could see it being the basis of a really successful musical.

This isn't the type of music I consciously seek out. I remember going to a spanish-language music concert when I was a senior in high school, and I thought the music was fun and upbeat (probably because it was more pop/dance-style music). But my tastes have matured in the intervening 13ish years, and this music is a more serious affair. The instrumentals are sweeping and well-crafted, and the vocals are passionate (you don't have to know the language to understand that). Some songs are more somber and some are more upbeat. The beats in general are quite catchy. The first song, "Chan Chan" caught my interest immediately, and it's probably my favorite one on here. Overall, this album is wonderful and complex musically to listen to.

Pretty Good. Will play again tonight

I wish I could rate this higher but I probably won’t be listening again. But the vibes were immaculate. The piano stood out to me as being really good.

Solid album with great vibes, but not sure this would have a spot in my rotation due to the length. But I appreciate the cultural aspect.

Honestly reminds me of being on holiday with my family. When looking up the lyrics, especially of El Cuarto de Tula. It has a lot of deep meaning that I would never understand on the surface. I was even at first going to call this "light-hearted music" (not true). Love the sort of jazz in some of the songs; it makes them almost romantic and playful. Even with some dark lyrics.

Groovy album, love some good latin jazz with cuban sounds. 3 stars 7/10

Starts out smooth and melodic, a chill vibe, great harmonies. Huge range of latin styles. Some sections where it almost feels improv. Great infectious energy, very very talented. Too improv jazz for my tastes.

This was a cultural phenomenon when this came out based on the movie. Brought the Cuban sound mainstream. Some good harmonies. Fun song structure but everything kind of blends together.

Interesting enough to maybe come back to

These are some nice vibes, but yeah, what they guy who reviewed it and said about drinks in the sun is too right. Give me sunshine and alcohol and this is an easy four by the pool.

TOTALMENTE A SENSAZIONI, NON VOGLIO CAPERE NULLA DEL TESTO. CUBANO E CARAIBICO AL TOP. RIENTRA NEL TIPO DI MUSICA CHE METTEREI COME SOTTOFONDO IN VACANZA, TRANNE LA PRIMA TRACCIA, CHE REPUTO LA MIGLIORE. PIACEVOLE, E SE DOVESSE ESSERE UN HOTEL SAREBBE UN 3 STELLE SUPERIOR. 3/5

I enjoyed some of the songs individually, but I don't have the ear to listen to an hour of this kind of music without it getting kinda boring and samey

Just not for me, but not bad.

Likte det godt, men det ble i overkant langdrygt

Very nice. Not my usual cup of tea. cheerful and romantic. Good for background sounds.

For some reason, I think of this as a “cafe” record. Did Starbucks sell this next to Norah Jones? That’s an unfair comparison. BVSC is much more listenable than Norah. I’m ready for fruity cocktail by the beach. Not my musical preference but I appreciate the musicianship. Always love hearing music from other areas of the globe - this list gets bogged down in English language albums, and I want to be challenged. 3/5

Está guay, no es lo que escucho habitualmente pero hay días en los que entra muy bien. El álbum entero se me hace un poco bola pero tiene algunos temazos sueltos.

An interesting album that was a pretty fun listen, but was unlikely to really stay with me. The album is intended as a showcase of Cuban (esp Afro-Cuban) musicians and sounds, which it achieves, but its jazzy sound also suggests it comes from a broader ‘Caribbean world’ that would include New Orleans, so it’s far from detached from other music. Overall though, I’m not sure this style of music can rise above background music for me. Enjoyable, but probably needed more cultural knowledge to fully appreciate.

Going by the hour I spent in the company of this rather large group of Cuban musicians, the Buena Vista Social Club seems like a cool place to visit, but maybe not for quite so long. I appreciated this album’s role as a tasting menu of various Cuban musical styles, but it was a case of diminishing returns for me; most of the better tracks were stacked towards the start, and by the end, my attention was starting to wander. As always, however, I’m glad to see some representation of music beyond the Anglo-American pop/rock world on this list.

Nice latin they sound and are old but the effort of getting them together to perform worth it

Imagine the scene, the humid Havana air is almost a relief after the hot and sweaty bar. The music was jumping and despite my age and dodgy knees the rhythm was inescapable and I danced… that’s what this album is like but I was listening to it in my office in Sussex and whilst the rhythm was captivating it probably wasn’t the right place for this album. I’ll test it again when I’m somewhere suitably tropical

Salsa bops

solid party tunes. Not much to say but good. 3/5

Number: 205 Familiarity: None (1) Rating: 3 ======= It was decent. Not something I would normally listen to but great for what it is. I liked the variety.

I don’t speak Spanish, but I speak trumpet. Great sound, had a fun time.

LOVE THIS. feel like im underwater in SpongeBob or im cooking a really cool pasta with all fridge ingredients in my garden in Spain . Loveeeeeee

3,5 me deixou triste porque não to num bar na costa de cuba

Pretty fun and jaunty Cuban record early on, showcasing the country's musical roots. Gets pretty repetitive though, but I think this music is meant to be more ambient or danceable anyway.

This quickly all blended together, but it was a good blend

Maybe I would enjoy it better if I had actually watched the Wim Wenders documentary.

Starts strong then begins to outstay its welcome.

Like sitting in Nandos, without the chicken loveliness.

Didn’t mind it I enjoyed the different genre for once.

Trevligt! Fin historia bakom bandet också.

Det har något men blev aldrig riktigt intressant i längden.

Började bra men jag tröttnade lite mot slutet.

Enjoyable if I felt like listening to some Latin music

Percussion sections continue to be my favorite aspect of Latin American music, and in a broader sense, the natural acoustic instrumentation. I especially appreciate the drum that sounds like an udu. This album kind of reminds me of the last one we heard from this genre, in that it's mostly Latin American, but you can hear hints of Jazz and North American influence. There is definitely a noticeable quality of sameness, but that is also part of playing music in a particular style. Maybe my ears are not in tune with this kind of music enough to hear the subtle differences, but it's easy for many songs to sound similar. Still, there was enough variety between minor key and major key songs to keep me mostly interested, despite the length. I'm feeling a solid 3

Nice music for nice people.

Very pleasant. Charming music. If the sun is shining, this sounds even better.

Pueblo Nuevo

Sunny day chill

First listen

Aika monipuolisesti latinogenrejä, tarkemmin ottaen väli-ameriikan. Kaikki tosi chilliä, vähän ehkä liian chilliä että vähän alkaa pitkästyttää mutta oikeassa tilanteessa toimii. Parhaat: De Camino a la Vereda, Buena Vista Social Club

beste een vibe maar k versta dr geen kut van

Enjoyed the Tunes but not for me on a regular basis

Not sure if living in Southern California has giving me a new appreciation but really enjoyed this lively album.

Uhh I didn’t like it that much. Chan Chan was I guess better than the others

almost walked in front of a bus while listening to this. a trauma album for me.

Byoona vista

It's fine, it's good, latino jazz and all that.

This was ok. The instrumentals were well done and were the selling points here. Buena Vista Social Club is kinda slower, downtempo easy listening, that faded a bit into the background but made for a nice morning working. Not really my thing but pleasant. Standout tracks were "Pueblo Nuevo" and "Murmullo" - loved the piano and slide guitar. 3/5

Its good and outside my music taste. I like it y era un bueno tiempo.

Well... It's got all the hallmarks of something I'd really love, folk songs, guitar, etc, but something about it just isn't clicking, which is disappointing. I like it. I don't love it. But I really like it.

I don't know Spanish enough to follow the lyrics, but my overwhelming feeling listening to this is sadness. A lot of the music sounds like it should be happy, but it just isn't. Good background music for dinner, but too sad to listen to at work.

Favorite song: Chan chan

The music is good, just not for me.

I like how the songs in this album bring awareness to problems in Cuba, the lyrics are meaningful. I also like the instruments used in the songs. I'd give this 3 stars.

Don't know much about this style of music, but a very chill listen.

summer vibes but 3/5 stars!

Good album

Very good Latin album. Didn’t know they really only released such a limited about of albums. That makes this kind of special. 3.9/5.0

This was good fun. The tracks sound similar to me and by the last quarter it sounded repetitive. But it was enjoyable would definitely put on again

Great vibes and very fun. No particular track stands out to me, but I would happily listen to it again. Good background music (honorific). Rating: 3

I enjoy the music even if I have no idea what they're saying.

Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: Candela Date listened: 22/06/26 Listen when: Making dinner in villa in Spain/Italy Love this generator because never would I have listened to this. Fun listen but after 10 songs I needed a break.

Thank you for another horizon-expanding listen. When I recognized the second track as being from the “Training Day” soundtrack, I knew everything would be all right...

Sounds exactly like I expected Buena Vista Social Club to sound like. Good grooves.

Es ist ganz cool so aber irgendwie hat das nichts was mich irgendwie mitnimmt. Es ein angenehmes Album mit nem coolen vibe. Vielleicht muss ich mich mal mit dem Text beschaffen oder so

It was decent. I can see why it's on here. And I can see why it became popular when it did. Not an album I'll listen to regularly, but it's enjoy it it were on.

A club with a beautiful view.

Feels like vacation but too long if your not on vacation

Enjoyed the instrumental side of the music.

It’s probably not really fair or relevant for me to rate this album. It’s not something I would seek out to listen to. In the right setting i.e having a mojito in a trendy bar or eating Latin food it’s perfect but driving to work on a Monday or doing the house work or sitting in the local boozer on a Saturday it just does not translate. I can appreciate the quality, the musicianship and the vibe but it’s not sit down and actively listen music to me so i can only rate it so high. 2.5

Pleasant enough background music for certain settings. I personally find it challenging to actively listen to it though and to critique it fairly, though musicianship is obviously excellent. I do like the general vibe it creates.

A solid showcase of Latin music. The sounds are smooth, crisp and clean. A nice change from the usual suspects on this list.

Only thing missing was a mojito. Great album, enjoyed the listen.

Not much to say. Like it.

I enjoyed the album. Most memorable song for me, "Amor de Loca Juventud".

Fun, relaxed, but not my thing on the whole. Interesting to read about the album's creation, and impressed by the musicianship.

I enjoyed this. The music is good. I would say it’s maybe a bit too long and the first handful of songs all blended together to me. 3.5/5

It’s ok. Pretty bouncy. A couple songs got really close to country though.

Not for me

i liked this way more than i expected

Fun change!

It really transports you but for me it mostly becomes background music, which is not a bad thing. I wouldn't consider it a must hear but it wasn't too bad of a listen either. Though i will probably forget it.

Not my thing, but solid

Prolly great but not my thang.

Didn't really care much for the first half of the album, but the second half felt more interesting and grabbed me more. Still, it just didn't quite click with me

So nice! I listened to this one back in high school

Lovely stuff.

I enjoyed four very pleasant listens, trying to figure out how I feel about this record. I didn't get much further than "this is very pleasant." So pleasant, in fact, that I was stunned to hear from my wife that she hated it. I think I will probably never return to this, but I think it is one of the great virtues of an endeavour like this that I engaged with it in the first place.

Reading the story of how this album came to be might be more fascinating than actually listening to the album. I don't speak a lick of Spanish, so I couldn't appreciate this lyrically, which did make it harder for me to concentrate on listening as there was less to grab hold of. That said, despicable my lack of familiarity with world music, I could tell that the individual Buena Vista Social Club members were very talented instrumentalists, and the music itself was enjoyable, and I think a few more listens would be rewarding, but this project doesn't lend itself to relistening.

As background this is great - never felt like it was dragging, never felt anxious to move on. Listening critically, there are some great tones in here, especially in the first song where you can almost hear the delamination of the guitars. It makes me want to check out the documentary. But will I listen to this again? The answer is no. Not because it's bad (it's most definitely not) but the language gap means I have no idea what they are singing about which makes emotional connection hard, and the style has a vibe and feeling but it's not a vibe or feeling I'm ever in the mood for.

I understood a few words on this album.

7/10 Favourites: Dos Gardenias Candela Orgullecida ⭐️

album was good just didn't think it was in my style so i didn't love love it but i still think it deserves a 3 from me. did like the vocals and the instrumentals though

More nachos!

Fun evening because I did 11 km with a bike while I listen to this album at 11pm. I wanted to listen to this album for a long time. I have saved two songs before I listen to this album. I found them in a different playlist because I was chasing a specific vibe so it was in a playlist someone made. I absolutely had big hopes for this album, but it didn’t satisfy me so much. It was fun, but I’m giving this album at three. I’m excited to listen more of their work.

Not my cup of tea, but I can understand the appeal if it’s your culture. Given the absolute shit I’ve gotten on this list recently (only one album in the last 10 scored even a 3) I’m going to plus one this bad boy on the grounds that I actually managed to not skip any tracks, and it’s not metal from bum fuck, nor anything from the damned UK.

Pleasant background music

"Not in English" FUCK YOU. i cant even begin to express how thrilled i am for finally FINALLY getting another album thats not in any way shape or form related to anything english or american or whatever. i know thos idiots wouldnt include themselves if i just said english theyll only think that the brits are at fault for everything. and yeah i know that this album is american too(shocking i know cuba is in south america so its an americ country), but again the americans only consider themselves american. So I'm pretty far removed from this culture cuz im eastern european, but we do blast some classic latino music at weddings so i know how to appreciate this genre. one of my dreams in life is to go to a latino wedding. from what i've seen, its kinda like our weddings but different. so if you got any of those coming up please PLEASE dm me. Actually getting to the music, this is nice, groovy, a pleasant change of pace from the ABSOLUTE SHIT i had to listen to on this list. It also isnt a diversity pick for the sake of diversity like other foreign albums on here. It's actually deserving of its spot and im truly glad for that. It's not something id listen to out of the blue, but its a delightful listen and im pleased that i got to hear it. I dont think id have ever got the chance to listen to this if it werent for this list. Orgullecida and Murmullo give me Spongebob vibes in some partsfor some reason. Other than that this album is either on party mode, chill or kinda sensual tunes and i love that. I practically could hear Dos Gardenias being played in a Bond movie. im not really into this specific genre but it is fun i cant deny it. great album. i could easily see why you would give it a 5 if it is your thing. Fave song(s): Dos Gardenias, El Cuarto De Tula Least favourite song(s): Buena Vista Social Club

Could go for some peri peri chicken

This was one of the first CDs my son picked out as a toddler, and he used to play it often. Specifically, the first track reminds me of that time, but he would normally wander away and lose interest after that. I feel kind of the same, as the album seems to drift more into the background for me as it goes on. The style and artistry are enjoyable, but I can't help feeling there must be a ton of more exciting albums in this style that I just don't know about yet... 3*

i'd like to go to cuba some day

Estuvo chévere, casi no es mi estilo, pero pero siento que es chévere tienen un ritmo chévere, letras pegadizas

Have had the CD for decades. Certainly appreciate their musicianship. And at the time, it was nice to be exposed to music beyond American pop, rock, jazz, classical. I don’t listen to them all the time, but it is fun music to get you going. 3.7

In a similar vein as the early 1001 albums on the list with Cuban sounds but I prefer those albums with their more upbeat approach.

Chan Chan - 2/5 De Camino a la Vereda - 3/5 El Cuarto de Tula - 3/5 Pueblo Nuevo - 4/5 Dos Gardenias - 5/5 ¿Y Tú Qué Has Hecho? - 4/5 Veinte Años - 2/5 El Carretero - 1/5 Candela - 3/5 Amor de Loca Juventud - 4/5 Orgullecida - 5/5 Murmullo - 3/5 Buena Vista Social Club - 4/5 La Bayamesa - 5/5 I loved the vibes, very summer-esque. I enjoyed the jazz moments within each song and the vocals.

It was fine.

Funny that this one landed right around Cinco de Mayo. I enjoyed it. It was very light and upbeat. Makes me wish I retained more from my four years of high school Spanish.

I liked the first half much more than the second half, the up beat songs were my jam. Still a very good album all the way through.

Unfortunately not a Spanish speaker, but musically has a good sound, easy listening.

Seems to me I know someone who was really into this when it came out. Pleasant and fun. Sounds great too.

cannot help but shake my booty. relentless. but nice. so so.

Best Song: Chan Chan This is one of those where I do not feel I can give it an accurate review due to a language barrier. But, I hate saying that because I know that there will be gatekeepers screaming, "you're ignorant! Listen to the music!!" Yeah, that's great. The music is fine but I don't understand a word he is saying. It could be a song where I am jamming out to a guy singing his allegiance to a furball his cat just puked up and that is now a new world overlord. I'd have no idea. So, before pitchforks come out and accusations fly about my hatred for non-English speakers, that is not true. I have no problem with non-English speakers, but I also am not going to put it on my playlist just to appease you! Anyway, this is a 3/5 since the music is good but I refuse to accept your cat's vomit as my new King!

A classic, good musicians, interesting songs at times. But I can't shake the feeling of listening to dinner music, during a Spanish holiday. Says more about my limited musical knowledge and views, and less about the Buena Vista Social Club probably, but there you have it.

Really enjoyable! Felt like I was at a tropical beach club or vibing in a Caribbean restaurant. I don't know that I'll play this on heavy rotation or anything like that because it's not the music. I generally listen to, but I'm glad I learned about it through this project.

Rentoa kuunneltavaa ⭐️⭐️⭐️

te amo latin jazz

It was a fun experiencie of cuba, viva cuba

Cool album

Thoroughly enjoyable

This isn't something I'd normally listen to, but it's not bad. It works well as background music. I'm not sure I'd want to actively listen to it for long.

Very good

Good chill Spanish vibes

This was cool and different I liked it

Utrolig fet første spor, men ganske kjedelig ellers

Not bad! It was overly long but I enjoyed it. Not a genre of music I often listen to and wouldn’t be upset to hear it again.

Sounds pretty much like what you’d expect Cuban music to sound like. Not my cup of tea, but I can’t say I hated it. It’s fine. I didn’t find much to be excited about, but at the same time, there wasn’t really anything to hate. It’s a passable album. A bit too simple and relaxed for my taste.

It's pleasant. Runs a bit long though. 3/5.

A vibe, but did not speak Spanish

6/10 If I could dance, I'd dance to this. A bit repetitive for my taste but good background music for studying.

Lovely playing.

Nice to hear somehting else than pop and rock in the list. Chill experience that was pleasant to listen to. Best track was Chan Chan.

Love this gem, was beforew my time but I remember listening to music like this my aunties house

Pretty Good album. I didn't understand the lyrics but felt good to listen to.

mm en lo personal no me gusto mucho, pero porque no me gusta mucho el género, pero tiene muy buenas letras y armonias

Musica bailables, movidas, muy desendencia y estilo cubao/latino

It was a great! but sadly I don't speak the same language.

Me gustó porque tenía diferentes tipos de vibras, era una salsa tranquila y clásica de Cuba.

121. good

not bad but i didnt add much

Really lovely and transportative. I admittedly don't know much about this kind of music, but I'm glad to have listened to this.

Just excellent music & guitar work throughout.

5 April 2026. 2pm. I love the ambiance so much, my mom approved it too lol 8/10
