Reviews (page 6 of 7)

This started off okay but was way too long and repetitive.

Didn't like this very much. Don’t even know what to say really. Unique sounding at least!

Never heard of Nightmares on Wax before being presented with this album! By track three I reckoned the album was likely to outstay its welcome at 72 minutes of underwhelming noodling. While I dare say there's a place for it, I doubt this makes it a great album.

I thought the drum beats were fun, but otherwise nothing really struck me on this album. It's definitely one of the albums I've listened to.

Truly not bad but not feeling this today. 2.5

did not know this. Easy to listen to, but more of a background sound to me. Actually pretty boring, I kept skipping through songs as they are very repetitive. My attention span cannot deal with it. Some of it sounds familiar, I probably heard it somewhere at some point.

Lo fi beats to just be high to. The anime girl is just staring straight forward with red glassy eyes. I dont listen to that crap and I dont listen to this kinda crap either. Its just so boring. It all blends together. Its music that I would like if its in the background of something else. I dont know in a dumb game or something. It would be acceptable but im not listening to it intently. Its just there kinda vibe. It just all blends together and I cant tell the different between any of the tracks. I bearly know when one ends and when another begins. Its just not for me dude. The bass and island vibes are decent but nothing to drag the rest of the project out of the muck.

An hour plus of bland nothingness. This shit feels like AI generated hotel lobby music, not something I'd want to listen to while stoned

THis was a STRUGGLE but not technically bad so I soldiered on. Reminded me a bit of the 'Selected Ambient Works 85-92' Aphex Twin album, but much more dull.

Not my thing

Nice to work to but fully Wii channel background music

I love electronic music but this was so boring.

talk about an album that has basically nothing for me. the most generic sounding beats for an hour and a quarter. there's nothing interesting here. it is just beats. for a group called 'nightmares on wax' i was expecting something a little more nightmarish. i guess the true nightmare is listening to hold music for 77 minutes

Samsung notification sound, lalla dog, In a Hood Near You, and many more audio pareidolia examples!

Didn’t stand out to me

I really could not get into this. It’s an instrumental album and it feels like each song is only 4 bars long repeating for 3-5 minutes.

Instrumental, didn’t really give it a chance. Be great for background music cooking or reading.

Solid grooves and a chill vibe overall, but very much sounds like hold/loading screen music from the late 90s/early 00s and not that exciting.

Three songs in until we get to lyrics and they are are just a repeated phrase. I don't hate it, but I'm not sure this qualifies as one of the best 1000 albums or the best 4200 albums.

This was boring. Meh. Lowfi beats to study to

Some cool beats, but far, far, far too long. If this album was half as long it would be four stars, but as it stands this is quite disappointing. 2.0/5.0: Disappointing

not what i expected based on the artist name, album name and cover art. some cool beats most of which dont really progress over the runtime of the tracks which make for a very unenjoyable experience. i really thought i was going to have to take a break from listening halfway through so i wouldnt fall asleep.

Was not expecting this hotel lobby elevator music to be on here. Wasn't bad but I won't find myself coming back to it

Soo boring

Pretty unremarkable

Not my bag. Also, surprisingly, I was completely unfamiliar with this artist. Weird.

Should be 1001 albums sometimes that will speed you towards your death.

Chill vibes with a nice rhythm that would make for great background music when Lofi Hip-hop Beats to Study/Relax to is offline, but nothing particularly unique or engaging. 2.5/5

At the start this was inoffensive, and then it became hella boring.

This sounded like glorified phone hold music. It sounded fine but there has to be better albums that could be in this list.

I feel and think I am a bit baffled by this is on the list because it isn’t in the top 1000

Was pleasant enough to listen to but my goodness was it boring and repetitive. Just the same sounds looped over, and over, and over again. Nothing original or special about this. Also it was just too long.

WHY is this on the list??? it's total background music. What is the rationale for taking up a spot on this list???

Chill but boring and repetitive

Loved the album art and some of the beats .... but not really my kinda music.

What are we doing here? It makes me want the book in order to read the blurb about this album. What could they possibly have said about this background music? Is it a bit to be called Nightmares on Wax and name this video game loading screen music Smokers Delight? Goldeneye’s pause screen has a bigger banger.

good background music

It’s very bloated

It's quite a nice mellow album, the songs flow into each other really well. I actually had to go back to make sure I wasn't listening to the same song, but surprisingly every single one sounds really different. At the end of the album I was a bit done with the album though.

Wow, what a landmark album. So important it charted at number 26 in Scotland.

The album felt like listening to elevator music. The music got very repetitive and the album was veryong at 1hr and 14 mins

Coming at you live from the coolest elevator you've ever been in. Before lofi beats to study to there was this. It's nice but mainly for chores around the house.

Cool background stuff.

It’s fine for background muzack but I don’t understand why it would be singled out as anything special

I like Electronica. Part of it is repetition, usually combined with progression. In some cases, the progression is missing or not noticeable enough, and then this stuff gets boring pretty quickly. Like in this case.

Not a smoker.

Not at all what I was expecting from the band name, or the album title, or the album cover. In some ways, that made this album more palatable. But at best it is passable GTA loading screen music.

I like a groove track, I do. But I want them to at least pretend there's a stronger concept than "I'm gonna make music that's for smoking weeeeed bro". That said, it's alright , nothing special

Ambient music for trendy lounge bars... I guess if you bore people enough they’ll order more drinks ? Seriously, I didn’t *hate it*, it was kind of all right as background music while I was working. It does indeed set a relaxed mood. But that shit is just soooo repetitive... even Brian Eno’s "Music for Airports" required more attention and brainpower to process. I’ll give it a 2* because I didn’t detest it, but I don’t understand why it’s on this list. It’s super generic, any semi-competent DJ can reproduce this.

Booooring snoozefest

Didn’t absolutely hate it, but won’t listen again

Full disclosure didn’t listen to the full album…but I made it halfway through and plan to finish. Generally liked it more than the other instrumental albums we’ve had

Mildly interesting

Trip hop is a blend of styles in itself - including styles I usually don't like. As such, my opinion on trip hop varies wildly. Sometimes I absolutely love it (Portishead and Massive Attack both got 5 stars from me earlier), sometimes I kind of hate it. In this case... it's utterly unremarkable. Now, I'm veeeery far from being an expert on electronica. But if you told me this was made by a teenager using open source sampling software on an old laptop, I wouldn't be surprised. For background music at work, this is pleasant enough. But what else? No clue. 2.5 stars rounded down because half an hour from now, I won't remember this one.

I have a bit of history with Nightmares on Wax. I saw him perform in 2016 and was blown away. I’d go as far as to say it was one of the best gigs I’d ever been to, certainly the best DJ set. A couple of years later I listened to his 2018 album and was surprised that it lacked any of the drive or pulse that I’d experienced that night - it’s just not what he’s going for. I thought his 1995 effort, his most popular work, might be the thing that makes my overall experience of his music make sense. At its best, this is vibey, chilled out stoner music with a patchwork of different textures and fragments of melody. Its the excellent music that I remember from that gig. It is music that is about the journey, rather than the destination. While there are definite highs across this release its mammoth 74 minutes sees diminishing returns, getting increasingly aimless and tedious. Some of the closing tracks simply should not have been featured.

I like trip-hop. This was overlong and uninspired.

Fine. I like some trip hop well enough, but this didn't have much that really stood out.

⭐️⭐️/5. Too much like elevator music/Muzak for me, but it’s a cool electronic album. Not for everyday listening.

I thought I was almost to the end of the album. I looked and was only on track 3.

Not for me.

So laid back I lost track of it. OK I suppose.

And the mediocrity is back, I got a moment of greatness in the form of Disintegration and now I’m back to this. I really didn’t care for this, I mean it was fairly inoffensive as sounds but trying to like “listen” to the music is boring as hell. It’s also while not that bad also not that good sounding. It’s not the worst so I am going to give it a 2/5

Nada fan.

Good background music but certainly nothing groundbreaking or innovative. Dino need to listen to this before I die? No.

Overly long and repetitive, yet surprisingly listenable compared to other EDM records on this list.

There is nothing appealing about this album. It's much too repetitive, the tempo never changes and it's completely boring and monotonous. The most interesting thing about this album is questioning why it's on this list.

This album is inoffensively pleasant, but that's actually the problem; as a result it's soulless and boring.

Sir, sir. Please. I've been on hold for over an hour. I just want to cancel my gym memebership.

Electronic ambient music

Nothing special

Han eigentli meh Reggae Musig erwartet.

WER HET JE NACH EXPANDED EDITION ALBE GFRÖGT BRÖDER jaa 1h14min, das isch hoffentlich guet! ahh chillout macht sinn hä ich lieb de triangel mann ich glaub, das wird sich zieh ich chan nöd mega vill degege sege aber finds eifch chli langwilig? jaa mengisch findi ischs nöd s guet galteret OHHHMEINGOTTTT ES GSHT NA SO LAAANGGGGG leider gsehn ich uf wikipedia au nöd, wiso dass es es speziells album sött sii, da wär s buech halt schomal hilfriich hahaha LANGWIIIILIIIIG HAAALLLOOOOOOO

So, as soon as this album started, it immediately became background music so I half paid attention to it. It's... fine? Nothing mind-blowing, probably won't listen to it again.

I got the tropical vibes from this trip-hop record, generally very good but It made me snooze a little, didn't keep me engaged and would listen to it again, if I were to fall asleep to it.

2/5. It’s just not music I can identify with.

Just too repetitive. I don’t mind instrumental music, but I don’t want to hear the same sounds over and over.

I didn’t mind this at first. Listening to it early morning at work after a long weekend, it was the chill kinda vibe I needed. Then it just kept going and I realised it went for over an hour. It’s not that good, very much just background music. The name feels so misleading but maybe it’s good if you’re high? Idk.

I kinda thought it just took a while to ‘get going’ but no this REALLY isn’t for me

Kind of good if you like elevator music I guess

Stoner music. Not inoffensive, but nothing special it passes by easily enough but doesn’t advance anything

Not boring but almost

Good background music for a cafe.

A fine album but nothing to write home about, which makes its inclusion suspect. I'd want to know from someone more familiar with chill electric to tell me if this was esemtial or ehat it would have influenced, becasue to me it seems mostly run of the mill. Rise is the best here, pretty good track.

Maybe if you need to focus? But it's not really even good for that. It's totally misrepresented. I thought this was gonna be a hip hop album. But no such luck. Maybe DJs use it for samples? I thought I heard a J5 sample. I don't need to hear this again.

Like decaffeinated coffee, alcohol-free beer, and sugarless gum, this album takes the soul out of the thing--hip hop, in this case--and renders it utterly flavorless and dull.

Boring hotel music.

The second track was quite amusing

This is another case of an album being super long and really testing my patience. For example, there is a song (“What I’m Feeling”) that just sounds like a 2 and half minute long ringtone. I’m not being mean or exaggerating, it has like a constant ringing noise that makes it sound EXACTLY like a ringtone. It’s one of the most painful songs I’ve ever heard. Genuinely, I hated that song. But then the first two tracks are absolutely stellar and I also really liked “Bless My Soul” and “Rise”. (Small side note, I so appreciate the fact that “Rise (reprise)” is labeled with “reprise” cause after listening to Aqualung just a few days ago I got so annoyed they have two tracks with the same name but no way to distinguish them, but I digress). Honestly there’s so much to like about this album like it’s incredible artwork and it’s super chill vibe. The only problem is that there wasn’t enough for me to grab onto to really have a strong emotional attachment to this album, and that is not a knock against it being an instrumental album, I think there just wasn’t enough to keep me invested when there’s actual trash to sift through on this album. Still I can’t say I hated it or that I didn’t enjoy the experience of hearing the album for the first time. Sadly that will definitely be the last time I listen to it in its entirety, but I did save a song or two from the album that I liked, but definitely can’t recommend this.

Music to ignore.

The Good: We’re in for a treat, a delightful treat… The Bad: But I quit smoking… so I get snubbed, right? The Ugly: Wondering what Nightmares On Stone would feel like… This is repetitive music, repetitive music, that repeats, and repeats… First thought I had was “geez, this is like those cool music producers who try to get people to buy Chord Packs so that they too can make lovely jamzz…” Except that this album is from the middle ‘90s and back then there were no such simple cheats…. but that doesn’t take a away the fact that it is all repetitive. If you find that sweet spot on the volume knob, you can have this play inoffensively on the background all day, and then, when you awaken from the hypnotic state you were in during which you probably strangled something, you will know what caused it… 2*

I was expecting a reggae or ska album but thats not at all what this is. Its chill but agree with some of the other reviews that say its essentially just background music. Favorite track: Nights Introlude (because it sounds like a better song by the Pharcyde) 2.5/5

GAHHHHH ANOTHER BRITISH ELECTRONICA ALBUUUUUMMM

More for studying

Background trip hop soul beats, no real singing or rapping. Not the best of its ilk. Mercury lounge.

It was mostly pretty boring in my opinion

Meh. I’m not sure why this is on the list.

I dunno about this either. We need some better albums soon.

Eh, don't really care for this but it wasn't bad. Just not my vibe.

This is not upsetting, but it is unspeakably dull

If cheech and chong had an elevator, this would be the album on repeat inside of it

It’s some alright background music that goes far too long. 2/5

First track is on a compilation I used to listen to, which is as it should be. I don't know if comps are allowed on this list, but The Album isn't always the best view of an artist or genre. If you want to spend 75' on trip-hop that isn't Tricky, there are better ways.

This smoker wasn't too delighted.

couldn't get pass the first song, nice bgm tho

Way too repetitive, it gets boring after 20 minutes. You really do need to have ingested some smokers delight beforehand

Well, I didn’t know Smokers Delight by Nightmares on Wax prior to this listen. And I think I’m okay with that now that it is over. This album started off with some promise. The first few songs I was vibing with a little bit. Unfortunately, it just kept going on, and on, and on. Eventually, I started to get bored and lost my interest. If a song or two popped up in a shuffle I would be okay with it. I just can’t listen to over an hour of mostly instrumental laid back trip hop tracks. At first, I thought I could get to a 3 but I’ve settled on a 2 rating. 2/5

Bad elevator music, or something that would play in the background when you're creating your Mii on your Nintendo Wii. 1.5/5, so it at least gets a 2 because some of the riffs and beats were decent, it just comes up so short compared to US-based DJs.

I had it on in the background and forgot it as soon as I heard it

Not too bad had some interesting sounds and layering.

Background vibes

background music, it was alright

I'm never really sure where to rank EDM albums that are this old. From a technical stand point, I've got a random friend who could replicate this production and sound quality back in high school on a laptop in his spare time. Post Soundcloud era it all sort of sounds the same. I think overall the album is chill and puts off good vibes. But it isn't very interesting or thought provoking.

I don't really ever listen to Trip-Hop, but I was pleasantly surprised. Chill album for sure. Won't necessitate a re-listen though.

girl why did you put the reprise to that song right after the song itself???😭 😭 😭 😭 😭 😭

The soundscape is rich and some of the musical ideas interesting, but this is an hour and a quarter of lifeless (literally) performances of self-indulgent "compositions." Listening to computers play programmed noise always leaves me feeling cold and empty.

I am guessing this album is important because it was used as beats for rappers. But it just doesn’t do anything for me at all.

The name made me think I’d hate this; I didn’t, but I didn’t love it, either. It’s okay as background music, and not much more than that. Not really sure why it was included in this list, to be honest. 2.5

It was kind of dull. It did make me wonder why there were so many British DJs on this list and then I discovered the person who wrote this book is English so that all makes sense now.

frankly boring

Imagine your friend being like “Dude, you MUST hear this album before you die” and then putting this on

I (I need) need smoke (oh, whoa, whoa) (I need) I (I need) need to smoke Who gon' hold me down now? I wanna get high y'all I wanna get high y'all Need it, need it to get by y'all Can you get me high y'all? I wanna get high y'all I wanna get high y'all Need it, need it to get by y'all Can you get me high y'all? I'm just what you made God, just what you made God (nee-need it) I'm just what you made God, I'm just what you made (Nee-need it) I'm just what you made God I'm just what you made God, I'm just what you made God Chill album. Added to my reading playlist. Little too long

All instrumental beats. The beats were good but I missed some vocals or something to keep me interested. The beats would be a good start for some killer rap songs. Nearly felt like a soundtrack for a video game. Way, way too long but the overall feeling was decent. Jut not particularly memorable Strong 2 stars.

It’s groovy but it’s like that lofi playlist for studying

скука

Largely forgettable Trip-Hop. Some pleasant moments, but unremarkable and burdened by songs that stay long past their welcome. I won’t come back for more.

From the album title and the artwork, I was expecting either something like the Sugarhill Gang or Reggae. I was wrong on both expectations, with this being more like chilled out electronica, perhaps being closer in style to something like Portishead. Unfortunately, I just didn’t find myself as interested in this as I have by some Portishead tracks. I generally found this to be fine, and not bad at any points, but not really notably good either. Very middle of the road, I guess.

I was ready for low fi stoner beats and I got them. Then I remembered I don’t care for lofi stoner beats.

Kinda fun album I guess, just goes on for way too long and never changes or does anything interesting.

Eh, not my cup of tea.

Helt chill bakgrunds musik med vissa nice moments

This was fine background music.

I'd absolutely listen to this while smoking. However, there are approximately 0 other contexts in which I'd listen to this.

I feel I am about to pay too much for these sunglasses listening to this.

Perfectly listenable chill music to work/relax to. Sound is pretty good, but nothing too remarkable. Would listen again whilst working on a project. Best Tracks: - Groove St. Worst Tracks: N/A Rating: 4/10

I genuinely believe that AI could make more interesting music than that

Sounds like the soundtrack to some JRPG. Not terrible but not for me.

I had no idea what to expect here, and purposely didn’t do any research before listening. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I was surprised when it turned out to be electronic/trip-hop. It’s not what I typically listen to, but it’s ok. Since I’m not well versed in the genre it kind of all sounds the same to me (although I’m sure that’s not the case to the trained ear). So for me, this would be ambient background music at best. Not anything that I would really come back to, but I can appreciate it, and it certainly isn’t “bad”.

Starts to show signs at the end of why I think people might've been into this, but it's hard to ignore the front half being pretty dull and repetitive. Feels more like a historical curio than something you actually need to care about now.

I like this band, they're fine, this album, it's okay.

Boring. Not horrible. Just repetitive and boring.

Running on fumes.

It’s slightly better written hold music. Totally fine on in the background but nothing particularly interesting.

Jazz, nicht so meine

Reminds me of being 17

I imagine you have to be in a particular mood for this music. Its just background noise to me, not much else.

What a long and trying album of “On Hold” music

Chill vibe. Sometimes too heavy on the chill. Makes great background music--great that when you turn your attention to it you are happily engaged. But doesn't hold up to (and doesn't seem made for) sustained attention. Guess I haven't been smoking enough to be delighted.

I'm at such a loss. Is it possible to have strong positive feelings about this music? I was finding it distracting and not easy to work along to. So, it's not for active listening (right?) and it's too distracting for background music. Please, can this one be the last of its kind?

Couldn't really keep it in the foreground of my brain while working. But hey, good background music is underrated. Counts for something, right?

Nej.

What a slog. I wasn't stoned enough for this album.

Eh, it's fine. I think you'd have to be in a... er, certain, relaxed, frame of mind of appreciate it.

OK, so I listened but it didn't work for me. Background music that tends to be dragging for too long with the same beat. Lazy synthesizer music.

There are so much better albums from Nightmares On Wax.

Words would have been a nice touch

Not bad in any way, just very boring.

There’s nothing really wrong with this, but wow did it leave no impression at all.

I’m bored.

A good opening track “Introlude”; but the rest? Boring funky ‘hold music’ - tracks that neither progress nor end. Surprised. I thought I like Nightmares on Wax, but Is this the ideal intro to “trip hop” as albums go? Do Portishead, Massive Attack and DJ Shadow do a better job? This is slippy and sleepy. Is the album “In a space outta sound” better? Anyway ... having listened to more nightmares on wax today than in my entire life, this is clearly stoner music. The pace is very, very languid indeed. I think they got this pick wrong. 2 (3 for the track 1)

Well, Nightmares on Wax don't like to be tarred with the "trip hop" brush. And I agree with them. This is chilled instrumental hip hop, which is all well and good, but does tend a little towards wallpaper. I am also surprised that this is not nearly as crunchy and lo-fi as the leading luminaries of trip hop preferred in their sound design (qv. Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead). I can also hear the subsequent seismic influences of DJ Shadow and especially J.Dilla on the world of instrumental hip hop. It's hard to believe that instrumental hip was ever this clean and almost to the grid. The whole sense of sound and timing has changed so much since the late 90s, that this sounds almost quaint. Influential in its time, but not really relevant anymore. It's just kind of easy listening jazz-lite with hip-hop-ish beats. Cursed by its own ubiquity.

Ok as background music. Not okay as listening music.

This is not what I expected at all based on the artist's name, the album name, or the album cover art. It's super chill and easy listening but maybe almost too easy listening. I got pretty bored and wanted something more engaging 3 songs in.

Background music. 2/5

I've never heard of this album or artist before, but I've seen the album cover, and I assumed that it was reggae or hip-hop, but it's a trip-hop/electronica album? I didn't see that one coming. I tend to like electronica, so I'm excited to jump into this one. This album wasn’t really my speed. It was fine to listen to and I enjoyed the relaxed mood, but nothing really stood out to me. I didn’t find any individual songs to be particularly interesting, and there weren’t any hooks or melodies that really gave me something to latch on to. I found myself just zoning out while I listened to this, and it was overall pretty boring.

It all kind of faded together eventually. Fine for background music I guess but it's not something I'd ever choose to put on

dude wtf

Painful

list really overestimating how much British trip hop a person needs to hear before they die. I don't care enough to figure out if this is a 1 or 2. I am saving the 1s for stuff I have listened to and find truly awful. you, the reader, can decide if I was mistaken here. music: hated. (⌐■_■)

This was fine as background music, but fairly dull. I don't think anybody really needs to hear this before they die

Ugh. Nightmares on Wax is right. I'm not going to lie, I didn't really listen to this. I fast forwarded through most of the tracks to confirm that it's exactly what I expected it to be. I'm not wasting my time on another album of 9-minute instrumental loops. The cover of this album reminds me of those stupid glow in the dark posters stoners could buy at Spencer's Gifts, so the title of this album makes perfect sense. That's obviously the market this album appeals to. Boring electronica pretending to be jazz. Other than being "vibey" while you're high on your couch, I don't know why anyone would listen to this or why it's considered important. It's not unlistenable as background music, but there are a thousand AI-generated albums online right now that sound exactly the same. There's nothing special about this. 2/5

another album that was looooooong for a front to back listen. will be going on my background noise playlist going forward, would make great study music for me

Why isn’t “Smokers” possessive? Why doesn’t this album cover or band name match with the lo-fi music vibe at all?

Background music fr

background music

Super boring, not this smokers delight

Quite boring

Never heard of this artist/DJ. Not my style. I do respect what he brings

Wow, I was just stuck on an elevator for more than an hour. I couldn't get out and all I had was the Muzak in my ear.

Nightmare to my ears... Not quite that bad but really nothing interesting about this album. I ran out of time to finish this one but there was no reason to to pick it back up to finish.

Put together decently well but just not enough going on. Too repetitive. Boring, even. If you want a chill album to listen to, try Beat Tape 2 by Tom Misch. For me it perfectly balances repetitiveness and new elements. Anyway Smokers Delight gets like a 2 or whatever.

Favourite Song: Cruise (Don't Stop)

This is alright, but an album you need to listen to? Naw.

This was fine and I enjoyed bits here and there. It was good to have on in the background while working. But overall, it's not a style of music that interests me.

Meh, it was alright. Some of the songs felt like elevator music, and the songs that didn't weren't very memorable. I think this genre has come a long way since this album, but this one wasn't one I enjoyed.

How many 90s Electronic DJs are on this list?!?! Favorite Track: Pipes Honour

Surprisingly okay

Did know this album or band. Sounds promising. Need more listening though.

Just not my genre.

There’s much better stuff from the 90s that does the same thing. But it’s nice to get an electronic album that doesn’t deserve to be on this list than a rock album that doesn’t deserve to be on this list.

Nice background music I suppose

Not at all for me. Way too mellow. Also, not stoned.

Chill. But way too long. And very repetitive.

turntablism wow

Única rescatable Me And You (QUE DURA 20 SEGUNDOS)

Another being on hold simulator! Instrumental electronic neo-soul with a vague funky hip hop feel that's the official soundtrack of every douchey bar that calls itself a lounge. It's relaxing and unobtrusive but impossible to mask the scent of hookah and despair on this album. Thus is a great example of a genre (Gen x muzak) worth including in a survey of pop, but it's boring to start with and way too long.

Kind of a snoozefest here. Sounds like something you'd hear if you went into one of those stores across from Junkman's Daughter looking for some JNCO's or Kikwear back in the mid 90's. I love 90's techno and trip hop, but this one is boring. There wasn't a particular song that stood out for me to call a favorite, it all sounded like the same background music. Nightmares, indeed.

Again, the power of an album cover. Coupled with the album title of Smoker's Delight, I feel like I'm going to have go back to an immature version of me two lifetimes ago to appreciate this one. The opener is thankfully much better than than the drunken Sublime License To Ill party vibes I originally got from the visual alone. The rest of the album is the same: laid back grooves with sparse instrumentation that provides a consistent tempo to whatever else you may be doing. This strikes me more as background, incidental music you may play in the bathrooms of a theater or before a concert while people are taking their seats. I can see a DJ having this album to match a beat while transitioning to another album. I appreciate this more than I first expected, and I can relax to it, but nothing seems groundbreaking enough for me to include it on this list, so I'm docking another point.

Chill and pleasant enough... Kinda bland though for the genre. Why this one? Was something particularly groundbreaking about it for its time? I'm sure there are better examples of this type of music that didn't get included on this list...

A cool laid back album. Trip Hop ? It was a decent ambient/background music type album to do repetitive data edits to. I am in to this type of music, but found parts of this album to be a bit boring.

Album 448 of 1001 Nightmares On Wax - Smokers Delight Rating : 1.5 / 5 A bunch of half ass background music. Described as Electronica/Hip Hop. Nothing much here for me.

I felt like I was cruising around in the grocery store hearing annoying drum beats.

It was terrible, but I didn’t find it interesting enough to actively listen to it and I don’t think I would choose to listen to this in the background. Can appreciate the quality, but not for me.

There really isn't much to say, because there isn't much going on. I don't smoke weed because I'm a loser, but I can't imagine someone high would choose this over hundreds of other chill-out albums to vibe and relax to. Nothing is annoying, nothing is catchy, nothing is ear-catching. It just persists in the background. Sometimes you question if a new song has started, sometimes three songs go by and you don't bat an eye. It just, exists. Exists for over an hour, that is. Kind of inexcusable for what's presented, but I suppose you may need background noise for a while if you're gonna get high. Do I sound like I know what I'm talking about? Probably not, but this album bores me to tears sober, and I can't imagine that shifts to masterpiece quality stoned. Not awful, just prepare for wishing you were listening to a different album.

why is there so much electronica on this list?? i’m sorry it’s just not that good!

Eletrônico extrumental. Legalzinho

This was likely heralded, at least in some circles, as something bordering on the revolutionary when it was released but for me listening today it was just an okay mellow soundtrack. When it ended the algorithm picked up a bunch of other funky yet smooth stuff that I didn't notice the handover. I don't think the technology is that slick, rather the sound has become generic now.

Glad to be introduced to different genres. But... not a lot here.

It's like being back at a 90's dinner party

Listening to this album is like being on hold for over an hour. I half expected a voice to cut in telling me to wait for the next available agent. I will admit there is something hypnotic about the music, and it makes okay background noise if you're trying to concentrate on something else, but I wouldn't sit and listen to it for enjoyment. As the name of the album suggests, you need to be stoned for this one.

This is the sort of thing that you would hear played as background music at an overpriced cafe. The type of music where the vibe is the most important aspect. Listening to this I find it over repetitive and boring as bat shit.

There's nothing inherently bad about this, but dear God is it fucking boring. This may have more historical significance than a lo-fi hip-hop Spotify playlist, but it sure as hell doesn't have any more or less quality than one. In fact, it may have less diversity. Again, I ask: why did I *have* to hear this before I died? 1.5/5

Never heard of the band before. Inoffensive background music. 2.5. I'll give it a 2 as it didn't grab me

Several thoughts on this one. 1. Never heard of it before. 2. I quickly judged the album cover and album name and expected that I was in for some bad reggae, like early stuff by the Police. 3. It's not even close to reggae. As another reviewer noted, it sounds like video game loading music. 4. This has no business anywhere near the 1001 best list. There are many far better albums even in this genre. 5. Still, it's ok as background music if you need a change, I guess. There are far worse albums on this 1001 list.

Do I know Nightmares on Wax? The name sounds familiar. It was nice, mainly instrumental with a dub kind of sound.

Trip Hop - forgettable

Very much felt like background music to me. Some enjoyable parts but so repetitive that it doesn’t really feel like something you would listen to as an album b

This seems like the kind of album your buddy listened to all the time and they rant and they rave about how amazing it is, then you listen to it and it's the epitome of meh.

Trippy, neat, but I'll probably never listen to it again before I die

Some nice moments. Listened through once. Nothing special I heard.

did not expect this to be non lyrical 2.5/5

I'd probably like this more if I wasn't listening to it while filling out my taxes.

Pretty boring.

Soo boooored Would it hurt to get a singer involved?

Legitimately just the music they use in skateboard movies, incredibly boring

not great

It is what it is, Chill electronic lounge music. I'm more into lounge jazz when it comes to lounge music. But this is okey to have in the background

I’m glad I know this album exists now, because there are a few specific moods where I will want this kind of music in the background. But, generally, didn’t really enjoy actively listening to this.

This is my least favorite complaint to leverage, but I don’t understand why this was included on the list. It’s fine, but so unremarkable and so long.

Ok...a little long and repetitive. Doubt I return. 2/5

1.8 - found this pretty torturous honestly. It was just really dull and uninteresting. I’d phase back in and realise I’ve been listening to the same beat for 7 minutes. Insomnia in music form

Solid trip-hop, electronic album, but nothing too notable about this one. Side note: probably one of the worst album covers I’ve seen, looks like something a shitty ska band would’ve put out, doesn’t match the music at all.

Huske nesten ingenting av da

First song is good, but most of the album is boring.

Very disappointing

I agree with one of the other reviews who writes that this is music for people who doesnt like music. It is not horrible or badly composed, its just there - without any demands, or, to me at least, without reaching beyond a shallow surface. It sounds cool on the stereo, but it is just that, sounds.

First track is a banger (especially with Passin' me by mixed in), but the album gets abit repetitive fast. The use of the African influenced instruments isn't done very well imo and overall just dragged on way too long (why 1hr+??). 1.5

I'm too sober for these overlong, plain beats.

good elevator music

Eh. Stoner music.

So I half worked to this music and the other half listened. The for at half went by really fast, and then I got real bored listening to it. I don’t know I just didn’t get anything from it. I kept waiting for it to be over and not really knowing when one song finished and the next started. Just not something I clicked with.

“Hey [artist] I finished the backing tracks for the songs” “Cool, sounds good we’ll just send it out as is” “But, it’s all instrumentals and way too long” “Trust me” 2/5

Background music. Gta music during a mission

Some decent songs but more often than not just seem like drum loops which don’t justify the length of song that they usually are. I think I would like most of these songs better in playlists but as a whole the album started boring me.

Very backround-y. It was enjoyable but never really stuck out to me. Worked well as a backing soundtrack to work though.

Quite uninspiring album, chilled melodies and sounds, perfect for a restless night, during which you can't fall asleep. I do recommend this, if you have any insomnia issues. I didn't feel any connection to any of the song, it just went along in the background until I stopped noticing any changes. Boring and disappointing.

While I do love this type of music, I feel like I've been spoiled by songs that have come much after it. It's fine for what it is, but it's not really groundbreaking. 2/5.

Eclectic instrumental

This is a super chill record but it all blends together. Maybe that's the point. It's not bad but it doesn't really hold your attention at all. It's not something you would sit down and listen to intently, more soemthing you would put on in the background. Like this is what would be playing in the waiting room at a wellness spa in Santa Fe that has lots of incense and natural soaps for sale.

Nice background music and that’s it. [0105/1001]

A surprisingly nice, chill album to listen to on New Year's morning with an upset toddler at 5 am, but ultimately left me questioning its place on this list. It's an hour + of lofi instrumentals that just didn't leave much of an impact on me. There's not much here I can see revisiting, and no real ear worms I might get from a contemporary like Fatboy Slim.

Didn’t find too much interesting with this album. Not objectively bad, but not for me.

It wasn't bad or anything. Pleasant, but a bit unremarkable.

If is found this when I used to smoke weed everyday I might have liked it but I didn’t.

Lo-fi Beats to Study and Relax To-ass album

Vetonaulana kivat bassokuviot. Lopputulos: biisit kiinnostavat, mutta harvaa jaksaa kuunnella loppuun.

Quite a run of albums without lyrics in English. I suppose this would be OK as background music, don’t get why it’s on the list.

2.4/5 Best track: Rise

# 121 : meh! Great music for backgrounds, holding on the phone and pumping through shopping malls or relaxation float chambers. Yeah.

I honestly thought I’d hate this. It’s not terrible, however it’s not something I’m going to sit down and listen to. It’s background music. I can find better background music though. 2/5

Instrumental music, not really my thing.

Funky chilled out beat's, but gets repetitive after a while. Feel you have to be smoking to truly enjoy.

Couple of nice little grooves but mostly pretty boring

Electronica med lidt hiphop vibe, lidt for meget baggrundsmusik over det dog

Um, not feeling it too much

Truly truly truly chill. Trip-hop should thrill in anger at the comparisons, this is relatively flat; Trip-hop defenders at least. Pair with James Joyce typographically, there's even "Pipes Honour" in there to fit the pattern. Never bad exactly, just overlong.

Just not a huge Electronic music fan

Harmless chill out music after several joints I'd imagine. But I gave up smoking normal ciggies 2 years ago this month, and gave up joints in the early 90's as always threw up after as they never agreed with me, so never quite reached that the chill out point of cannabis related tranquility, to appreciate a lot of this sort of stuff. But nice background music while I went through old paperwork for chucking out. In other words this album just drifted along and over my head without really entering it, but I'll give it a low 2 for the relaxation. (Glad I didn't listen to the deluxe version or I might have died of a sofa chill out related deep vein thrombosis).

Spotify laat zien hoe vaak iets is afgespeeld. Eén nummer is voldoende.

Slaapverwekkende telefoonwachtmuziek.

A big ol nothing burger

Moby + more appreciation for funk. I appreciate DJs and turntablism, but this ain't it

This is like elevator music, but with a beat. It's not bad by any means, but not my jam.

Beep boop, bass repeat. I don’t like it. It’s another electronic record that I couldn’t connect with. Is it just me? It’s gotta be my fault. Right? I don’t know? I DO know I don’t care for this in the slightest.

I have constantly been putting off this album. And I've found out why. Every time I start playing it, I almost immediately turn it off. I also hate how I'm talking more in my notes about albums I don't like as opposed to albums I do, but I gotta speak my mind on this. Smokers Delight is an absolute snooze-fest. It will provide you some boring repetitive ideas played over and over for 8 minutes straight, then it will change into something that sounds interesting but go absolutely nowhere. You're in this constant limbo of being teased of sometihng potentially great that never comes. This wouldn't even pass as a decent rap insturmental album. Don't get me wrong, it's not unlistenably bad, just a boring one. I've yet to find something truly repulsive from this website, but it's getting closer everyday. If I need to be blazed to enjoy this album, then it's truly not worth the listen. And I've had a few drinks tonight and it's still doing feck all. Go listen to some J Dilla or something else, this really isn't worth the run time. This album is the defecto marijuana album that absolutely no one asked for.
