Reviews (page 5 of 9)
Few good songs get dragged down by the rest. Mind numbingly bad lyrics.
Overrated dad rock in the pejorative sense of the word, but better than their 80s output at least, with a few classic songs and some nice riffs. But plenty of average filler, and the ick factor from abuser Steven Tyler delivering some questionable lyrics doesn't help either.
I didn't really get into Aerosmith until the '90s. Apart from "Walk This Way," I didn't know any of the songs on the album. And that's totally fine. I won't be listening to the album again anytime soon. 3/5
Actually pretty good
6.5/10
Listened to this over a week ago.. and don’t remember anything. Revisited today it was ok. Still don’t remember anything after I finished it. Vocals are not bad. The rest I don’t remember
a super solid album. sweet emotion, walk this way, and toys in the attic are the standouts for this album. honestly, i can get behind how stripped down this album is. its just rocking and rolling, which not a ton of fluff. i think on a re-listen, this would go up to a 4, but initial reaction is it was good and fun to listen to as a 3.
I know its Aerosmith and they have earned their flowers, but I always kinda look down on rock artists that insist on including penis jokes in their songs and on their albums. Just makes me feel like they have nothing better to put their songwriting abilities towards. Otherwise there are two classics on this album that most people know and the majority of it does rock. Could've been a four but I'll stick with a three.
not sure if anyone else can relate, but my exposure to Aerosmith started with Guitar Hero when I was a kid. needless to say, i've definitely listened to this a ton in the past, but it's been a while Toys in the Attic - 4/5 Uncle Salty - 4/5 Adam's Apple - 3/5 Walk This Way - 4/5 Big Ten Inch Record - 2/5 Sweet Emotion - 5/5 No More No More - 3/5 Round and Round - 3/5 You See Me Crying - 4/5 Average score: 3.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ it's a mixed bag score-wise, but this album is still a fun listen for the most part after all these years. i always found Big Ten Inch Record really corny, but Sweet Emotion is still as great as I remember
Pretty alright.
mid-70's Aerosmith kicks ass, man
This becomes the sound of the next decade and when it gets totally blasted out in the coming years, I don't love it, but in 1975 it still feels super fresh and inventive. The closing track soars. Sweet Emotion is an all time classic rock song.
Getting kinda sick of this Aerosmith guy. 3rd album by them in like 3 weeks and none of them had Jaded or Angel. Sad!
Solid album. Good tunes. Great band.
The name matched the vibe it wasn't bad
Ok album, but known mostly for the big hits Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way. I was hoping for some other gems based on those, but they really stand out as the most complete and thought out tracks. Most of the other cuts sound less produced or at least less focused musically. I am probably missing something, but I wasn't compelled to engage further.
There’s more bite here than I expected. The riffs are tight, the band sounds locked in, and there are moments where it almost pushes beyond straightforward rock. It doesn’t fully lean into that, but the energy and occasional shifts keep it engaging throughout.
6 / 10 - solider Classic Rock - rockig & bluesy Favs: - Walk This Way - Toys In The Attic
La première, c’est évidemment Walk This Way.
Two real belter rock songs on here. The Walk This Way version with Run DMC is definitely the canon version though, this original sounds like its missing an edge. I'm not that offended by this, but I also dont think its particularly good. Fave Track: Sweet Emotion 2.8/5
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet emotion.
Average
The big hits are great but the rest isn’t as good unfortunately
Fun.
Toys in the Attic — фундамент американского хард-рока 70-х.
Not bad, not really the 80s Aerosmith but a more classic 70s rock record.
This one felt dated to me.
2 banger hits & a bunch of crap I won't ever listen to again
no where near as annoying as I thought it would be 2.5
Such a vibe. Led Zeppelin influenced af
The band smokes; some sweet ass guitar tones and Hamilton and Kramer are locked in.Steven Tyler has always been my stumbling block with this band, and this does nothing to change that.
I’ve heard plenty of good things about this album. I love Aerosmith, but I’ve never gotten around to listening to this. Toys in the attic: 7/10 High energy. Good start to an album. Uncle Salty: 6.5/10 Nice riffs in there. Adam’s apple: 6/10 Walk this way: 9.5/10 Classic tune. Big ten inch record: 5.5/10 Sweet emotion: 10/10 Legendary. No more no more: 8/10 Great guitar. Very catchy. Round and round: 6/10 You see me crying: 6/10
Meh! Contains the original version of "Walk This Way". Also contains a cover of the 1952 song "Big Ten Inch Record" which apparently is one of the best double entendre songs of all time, but which I think is a bit childish.
Second Aerosmith. Been a while since their last - about 200 albums or so. I don't recall much from the time I listened to Rocks. That was just a perfectly fine hard rock album from what I recall. That being said, I do remember it being graciously short at a runtime of 34 minutes. With all the lengthy albums I've been subjected to lately, something on the shorter side would be a welcome breath of fresh air. Oh, yeah. This album is also the name of one of the better Cowboy Bebop episodes. I can't believe I didn't immediately notice that. It's been fun to connect all the musical dots from that series now that I'm making my way through this list. Honestly, some Aerosmithing was what I've been needing. This was a rejuvenating listen. It felt good to unplug my brain for a few and nod along to some decent, punchy rock tunes. Not every song was a heater and there were more than a few moments where my attention started to wane, but I'm not going to get my panties in a wad. The operatic air that much of this album has is pretty fun, and the guitars have a lot of bite to them despite their crunchy sound generally being alienating to me. There's some decent variety in the instrumentation too, which I appreciate. Overall, this was a solid outing. I've heard "Walk This Way" before. I'm not sure if it was this version or a cover - the chorus sounds a little off-key from what I recall. In any case, it's a good tune. The main guitar riff is pretty killer and iconic, but it's those verses which truly win me over. I like the rockabilly sound that the instrumental adopts during those stretches, and the songwriting is a fitting accompaniment with how it continually builds upon itself. A great listen overall. Book time. "...progenitors of "cock rock...". I'm not sure whether I agree with that. These guys are just a competent, commercial rock band, right? Was a make-or-break release for the band. Okay, maybe these guys are a butt rock band - the entry just went over some of the lyrics. A smashing chart success which put the band on the map. Brought the "Dream On" single back from the dead and made it a chart success. Yeah, I'm on board with this pick. Aerosmith are an iconic band and this was a pivotal release within their discography. I'm doubtful as to whether three list albums are warranted, however. These two albums that I've listened to seem like the perfect duology for an artist of this standing. I guess I'll just have to wait and see, but for now I cosign this inclusion
It has classics like sweet emotion and walk this way but I actually prefer there later albums to this.
elevated by the iconic baselines. but otherwise kinda meh
What a load of fun!
good 70s rock, with the famous Walk This Way
The songwriting on this album is good. It is well performed, though the best part is definitely the middle. I think the beginning and end of the record leaves a little bit to be desired, and the mix is pretty dated overall. Many of the other older albums here have benefited from a 21st century remaster. I think that would make a big difference for this album. The hits from this record are deserved, and there are a couple other good tracks, but I'm not amazed by the totality of this record. 3.3/5
3⭐️/5 02.14.2026
A little flat and lacking drive.
Enjoyed it more than I thought i would. Some great classic/blusey rock.
Obviously Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion are classics but I find the rest of their music to be a little corny lol. Not bad but didn't add any new songs to my rotation.
Two songs to the core. The rest is before my time and don’t register.
A lot better than I thought it would be, but Walk this Way is much better with Run DMC
This is great, really enjoyable with some really good riffs and rock and roll vocals. Having only ever heard Aerosmiths 'hits', I was going in a little blind but I'm left impressed. Title track is awesome and the majority are great tracks. 3.5/5.
Album 97. Toys In The Attic — Aerosmith (1975) Had two hit songs in my playlist, nothing was added after listening. The album is good, but kinda bland for me. 3/5 Liked songs: — Walk This Way — Sweet Emotion
Walk this way es un temazo.
Coke's in the Attic
A gratuitously mid album
Yeah, that’s alright.
Album 32 Top 3 favorites off the album: Adam's Apple, Big Ten Inch Record, Sweet Emotion I liked this one more than expected. I figured I'd be meh on the lyrics, I was largely correct, but not so much that it took away from my general enjoyment of the album. There's a good drive to the album that isn't exhausting or repetitive. It feels fresh across the whole work.
this was fine sweet emotion is the only song i’d relisten to though
Nice!
Awrismith
This wasn't a bad album necessarily, it just didn't really connect much with me. It was something I could have playing in the background and have no issue with.
Musically I like this although there’s some questionable subject matter that distracts. ‘Sweet Emotion’ is beautiful.
Is it subtle? Well, of course not- and it’s not meant to be. Steven Tyler’s bluesy howl, and licks that don’t stop. Gritty, smutty and groove heavy in turns. It’s not here for a long time, but it’s definitely here for a good time
Mejor de lo esperado. Pero en 1975 hubo mucha mejor música.
Aerosmith is about as good of an american rock band as you can be while also having seemingly nothing unique about them whatsoever. Steven Tyler has incredible singing range, Perry is a filthy guitar player with great tone, and their singles (especially Walk this Way and Sweet Emotion) rock. Yet, it all feels kind of empty, doesn't it? I don't think all art has to 'stand for something' and maybe coming out in 1975, Aerosmith's lack of pretention (or ambition, depending on your perspective) was something of an answer to the idealism of the 60s and early 70s, which had all amounted to something pretty close to nothing in the end anyway. Still, when I think of Aerosmith, I think of...actually, nevermind. Come to think of it, I don't think about Aerosmith at all.
Fun enough rock of a bit too American
Just ok, didn’t think too much of it. 3 stars
Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way are classic rock staples for a reason, but the rest of the album is paint by numbers 70s rock that did not impress. 3/5
Unfortunately this was a underwhelming album for me, not a bad one but for sore not a memorable one 3/5
Strangely my wife liked it more than I did. It grew on me, had obviously heard the hits but never the full album. Will come back to it. 3.8
Not for me all the time but love the harmonies and there’s some solid songs.
Middle of the road. Feel like this list maybe could’ve featured one Aerosmith album.
Not bad
Sweet Emotion a Banger, liked 1 or 2 others rest didnt do much for me. I must be maturing slightly, as found it a little juven/infantile overall...
The fuck is the 10inch song
Classic rock. Sweet Emotion is always nice to listen to.
Ech, no po raz kolejny rock. 6/10.
I forgot how old this album is.
Sweet Emotion and Walk this Way are stone cold rock classics, even without Run DMC! Still plenty of bluesy rock on there too.
Rock n Roll, baby! A quintessential rock album from a band that, in many ways, defined what was then called hard rock. I knew the hits, of course, but enjoyed the back tracks much more. Not really my jam, but I enjoyed the listen.
A classic.
I thought the best song on this album was "Walk This Way." Well, I can't give this album more than a...
-hmm. i actually kinda fuck with this. fell too hard for the “Aerosmith sucks” propaganda i suppose -the blues rock wasn’t my absolute favorite, i much prefer their Walk This Way-adjacent hard rock material -this was fun to listen to. very solid 3.5 stars -Favorites: Toys In The Attic, Adam’s Apple, Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion
Definitely their best album. Way more rock than the pop sound they went with later in their career.
3/5 - Walk This Way is incredible, Sweet Emotion was really good, aside from that it was all good but nothing that stood out to me personally
It's a classic rock, classic. Which means you know, it's predictable, isn't difficult to understand, fair portion of the album is filler because they need to pump out albums year in and year out, is anthemic, sex drugs and rock and roll. About the two iconic songs on this record, "Walk This Way" (the original one) I believe is inferior to Run-DMC's version, the original just sounds bland. "Sweet Emotion" on the other hand is by far my favourite on this bleh and meh album, favourite part being the verse. Highlight Song/s: "Sweet Emotion"
It's alright. Some good tracks but a lot of filler. 10 inch record is absolutely awful.
A couple of great songs does not make a great album.
3.5
It's Aerosmith. They're good, if not exciting.
They want to be Led Zeppelin SO BAD; the riffs, guitar tone, and lyrical content make it so obvious; I liked the hits ("Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion") and "No More No More" though
7/10
I liked the start, especially the one the sounded like strange kind of woman. Tailed off
Am I become boomer, the enjoyer of rock?
ok sure
6/10
Some bangers on here but also a lot of filler. Without walk this way and sweet emotion this would be a forgettable album.
Eh? Sure?
++*: Walk This Way ++: Toys in the Attic, Sweet Emotion, No More No More, Round and Round +: Adam's Apple, Big Ten Inch Record, You See Me Crying +-: Uncle Salty 7,2/10
Aerosmith must have the worst album covers outside of the thrash-metal crowd. Musically however, following the 'Rocks' debacle, this was a breath of fresh air. In fact how Aerosmith went from this bluesey, swampy, tight rock n roll to naffery in just one album beggars belief. It manages the feat of very much sounding like the Stones but with melodic Beatles touches - 'Adam's Apple' a good example where the chugging Stonesy verses are supplemented by horns and a Beatlesque descending bridge between chords. I was enjoying the more unique feel of 'Uncle Salty' until I realised the verses carry a very similar melody to 'Man! I Feel Like a Woman'. Once you've heard it there's no going back. The true original here is of course 'Walk This Way' - a classic that was somehow made even better by mashing it with hip hop. So what have we learned? That this was the album where Aerosmith realised they could distil the influence of American blues and RnB, via the British invasion, to produce something pretty punchy. Whilst highly derivative this new punchy formula feels a forerunner of The Black Crowes and the like. Most of the tracks are decent to good with a couple of classics. High three then.
I’m annoyed. The website didn’t save my write up from yesterday. Anyways some really good songs on here. Overall not bad. Some don’t sound like Aerosmith which is funny. 3.5
3.5
It's very generic in comparison to other rock albums from that time. Anyway, what makes it cooler is Walk This Way and Steven Tyler's amazing vocals.
It’s a rock album from the 60’s. It was good not great.
Seems like a solid enough rock album, and the everybody-knows-them hits are a couple steps extra solid Not captivating but it sounds good
Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion aren't just the best songs, they are the only ones that feel like they got all of the "juice". Good guitar licks, good production, better groove, cleaner, just more interesting. The rest of the album if it was missing those two would be forgettable, if a bit ahead of its time.
As good as it gets for Aerosmith, a band that I never quite got into as much as others of the era.
Some classic Aerosmith songs. The remaining tracks were decent rock songs sounding like Aerosmith, just not as catchy
*1975. *Key Tracks - Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. *Only 38 minutes. *Not a fan of Aerosmith, although Sweet Emotion is a masterpiece. *Pretty big variety of music here - some jazzy/bluesy tracks, some country stuff, then more rock and roll numbers. Not a big fan of any of it though.... *Overall this isn't for me. RATING - 6/10
I bought Night In The Ruts back in the day and liked it a lot, but I never explored their back catalogue (pre NITR) and never really followed up on them as they never toured in the uk (between 1977 and 1987) - so as far as I was concerned fuck them. Liked this album though. 3½
The two hits are so good. Rest of the album was a little all over the place.
3 - some classics but then the rest wasn’t great
Straightforward and fun hard rock album. Not much else to say. Every song hits, but none of them hit particularly hard. Decent riffs, good choruses. Enjoyable album but nothing to write home about. 7/10
Walk this way is a banger. The rest was fine
From the time when Aerosmith was still good.
I had a very brief interest in Aerosmith when I was 13, but I outgrew them as soon as I discovered real hard rock and metal. Listening again decades later, I'm amazed at how tame they feel. It's much more old-school and conventional than I remembered. Not terrible, but not terribly good either, they sound a bit like a discount Led Zeppelin. That being said, I still enjoyed hearing them play with old standards ; tracks like Big Ten Inch Record are a lot of fun. A very forgettable album overall, but I still had a good time. 5/10
The songs aged, but I'll remember the iconic guitar riffs for both chorus and verse of Walk this Way, the spoken rhytmic flow that made it so easy to later make it a hip hop song with RDMC. I loved discovering here the bluesy Big Ten inch record in between Walk this Way and Sweet Emotions the seonc hit.
You can definitely feel the weight of years on this album, but it's like fine wine, it has aged very well. For me, it's a discovery and I'm pleasantly surprised.
I had never listened to a full Aerosmith album before. The little I knew didn’t really grab me, I’ve always preferred the epic vibes of good old Led Zep and Deep Purple over Aerosmith’s less ambitious hard rock. But this was a nice surprise. Some tracks are genuinely brilliant, the bass grooves hard, and Tyler’s vocals totally sell it. The whole thing holds together well enough that I could actually listen the album again, even if some parts lean a bit too glam or old-school grand-pa’s rock. Walk this way, dropped in the middle of those bluesy riffs, sounds shockingly modern. Not revolutionary, but definitely warm, punchy, and fun enough.
Kinda fun if your into that
It's Aerosmith. You know what you're getting. It's not bad them, but it's also not awesome.
Having not heard Aerosmith in their “glory” days I had low expectations for this. Fortunately, they were exceeded and this was a far more varied, interesting album than first expected. Solid guitar, vocals are decent if not my cup of tea, but lyrics are a bit inane. If you don’t pay attention and just listen generally it’s more than passable.
Good classic rock noise. I enjoyed it all the way through but was never particularly captivated. It's a bit of a one trick pony that didn't ever seem to give me something I haven't heard before. Of course, there is always the argument of lasting influence (which I don't doubt) but, beyond being an interesting academic listen, I can't see me rushing back to this album again.
It was ok but nothing mind blowing. Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion are great songs but the rest are quite forgettable.
Original review a few months back still stands, 3: "Aside from a couple of tracks including “Walk This Way”, it’s rather generic and mostly forgettable. Not their best album at all. Midway house for me."
90/1089 a decent, slightly dated rock album. it didn’t overstay it’s welcome and the guitarring was satisfying to listen to. Sweet Emotion was the obvious stand out along with Walk This Way, i also quite liked Uncle Salty 64/100
At this point I'm not sure if I actually enjoy the megahits on here or were just conviced of that after hearing them 1,000 times each. The album tracks are just so mediocre and I cannot stand Steven Tyler's frontmanning style. 3/5
A classic. Fun to hear what they were like before persona kicked in
A rocking good time!
Guter Classic Rock
Liked the album, but expected more from Aerosmith. Walk this way is great, and there was a couple more songs I really liked, but the rest is just regular. I expected more of it.
Aerosmith’s best song is “Sweet Emotion,” but even that can’t lift this beyond average ’70s classic rock. It’s fine, but nothing special.
No private session used for Spotify. This is the Aerosmith I actually like not the slow ballad crap artists that they unfortunately became..."You See Me Crying" has a hint of that, but is mostly overshadowed by some classic rocking. You still get the juvenile lyrics that the band never got passed, even in their 80's or however old they were when they wrote "Love in an Elevator". That was uncalled for, not because it isn't true, but because I should be focusing on this album. It mostly rocks and contains two awesome rock classics.
Aerosmith inhabits a niche that many other, better, rock bands of this era also inhabited. I don't find there is much that stands out beyond the two big singles. It's not bad, but Steven Tyler's voice also kinda sounds like it hurts on a few songs. I don't need knockoff shittier Robert Plant or Mick Jagger, do your own thing dude...
wasn't too crazy about the opening track so had low expectations for the rest of the album but honestly was pleasantly surprised. i found this fun and liked it a lot. i am an aerosmith fan now
Cringe dad music
It's weird, this sets the table for damn near every other Aerosmith album I've ever heard. A couple of hit singles, a bad/overwrought power ballad or 2. Something dumb (yeah, big ten inch...record) and/or a straight blues "cover." Add in a couple of album filler songs and presto, instant Aerosmith. 2.5 for me rounded up to 3. It's fine - I do enjoy the song Toys in the Attic (REM even covered it). No More, No More should be as big a road weary song as Wanted Dead Or Alive is. Both are still way better than that Bob Seger song. Also...Yo Jay, get that record with the toys on it...(if you know, you know)
3/5
Obviously Walk This Wsy is a classic. Everything else is generic and bland so splitting this down the middle
It was neat! Extremely juvenile, but in a fun way. I feel like I could have liked this a lot if it came around at the right place/time.
I was surprised how few songs I knew on this album. It was less “rock” than I expected in a good way.
I sort of lump Aerosmith in with just generic rock that isn't too special but listening to this album in it's entirely, I was pleasantly surprised. The rock is bluesy and confident with some nice production. The lyrics are one party nonsense one party juvenile sleaze, but most the songs are a fun time. It's not quite a 4/5 for me personally but a strong 3. The cover is very good and had a nice amount of detail, it is a 4/5 for sure.
Title track is the best song here, showing from where Guns n’ Roses (or mostly Slash) took their inspiration. Unfortunately, none of the other songs are as uptempo, but Walk This Way and Sweet Émotion are still quite good. Tracks 2, 3 and 7 are decent, I don’t really like the rest. Especially Big 10 inch is baaaad.
I think was a great rock album, I can absolutely see why it had mass appeal. It rocked just enough to be cool, but not enough to be offensive, hahaha.
The very definition of classic rock. Not huge on Aerosmith but an enjoyable listen
Favourite Track: you see me crying
I was already familiar with this album before listening. It's a pretty good rock album which also happens to contain two of the best rock songs of all time in Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. The other songs aren't bad, but certainly are not as good as those two. I would listen to the album again, but wouldn't mind just hearing Walk This Way or Sweet Emotion outside of the full album.
5/10
This album was fine. The production is good. The singing was pretty good. Everything was good but that's pretty much it. Big Ten Inch Record was pretty distasteful so that knocks the record a few notches but nothing else to hate or love about this. Yes there are two classics on here but this is just classic dad rock. It was overall just "good". Top 3: Toys In The Attic, Walk This Way, and Sweet Emotion Worst: Big Ten Inch Record 3,25-3.50/5
A really solid album with great singles, but is hampered by deep cuts that feel derivative of other bands. Round and Round is straight up a Black Sabbath song, there's a couple songs on there that sound very Lynyrd Skynyrd. And the weakest track on it is easily Big Ten Inch Record. Those lyrics are painful. Understand that's a cover, but probably should have left it off. That said, like I mentioned, the singles are great, Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. Solid album with good singles, just derivative.
It’s pretty cool - there are some bangers on here. It prefer the ones with the most catchy guitar riffs. I must admit, I’m a sucker for the late 80’s early 90’s Aerosmith. That’s what was on MTV in my youth. Along with Walk this Way of course
ok it's official I don't really like Aerosmith. Sweet Emotion is an epic track and there are a few others I like, but I don't see / never have seen the importance of them. 3 for their musical talents
Another example of a greatest hits band. Never a good album, just a couple of bangers from each one. Joe Perry is overrated. I do love Sweet Emotion. Never gets old.
This one is hit and miss for me. The classics are phenomenal and what I consider their unique sound. But then, there are others that are filler and distracting.
A star each for the two hits - Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion and one more for a long time fave - No More No More. The rest is serviceable to good. And they may as much claim to influencing the coming generation as anyone (for better or worse).
A band I knew but I never listened to any of their albums before, and today I understand why
Aeeosmith has a few songs I like over all albums but overall but generally all I can think of when listening to him is that him looks like claymation of a creature that swallows children. Creepy
Reminds me of Metallica :)
Although I haven't really heard much early Aerosmith before, I feel like I could have lived and died without necessarily digging into Aerosmith's obscurities. And outside of their epic hits "Sweet emotion" and "Walk this way" (which I always enjoy hearing, the latter with or without Run-DMC), the rest of the whole album seems pretty deep in the obscure realm, although also more enjoyable the further you get into the album (except the painful last track "You see me crying"). Odd that it remains their most successful album, but I guess that speaks more to my ignorance of all things Aerosmith than anything else. And hilarious that "Young Frankenstein" was the inspiration for the title of "Walk this way".
enjoyed Sweet Emotion the most; solid album for the fans
A few good songs, but a lot of rambling and pointless ones, too.
It was OK. Not amazed by anything on it though.
Sweet emotion = brilliant. 10 inch record = embarrassing dreck. All things in between.
Quite a fun album, I’ve never paid much attention to aerosmith before. I appreciate the short length of old classic rock albums also, and some standout tracks on here like the title track, sweet emotions and round and round!
Pretty solid sound. Actually somewhat surprised. Great if you ever played Guitar Hero - Aerosmith before lol.
Ok
Good early days album
Some classic songs but not quite cohesive. 3.5 Stars
Ehh. I like No More and Walk this way and some of the more bluesy stuff but felt very milquetoasty.
Is this a good album? Is it Great? No, not at all. The problem I have with this album is: Sweet Emotion & Walk This Way are too damn good & seem way too polished. They almost stick out like sore thumb. Big Ten Record plays like drunk, horny Weird Al song but it's not funny. Round & Round sounds like they are trying to ape Zeppelin. I want to score this higher but I cant.
It was okay. I liked Sweet Emotion.
Zuhause, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Besser als gedacht.
Going in, I only knew Walk This Way. A lot of the album was along these lines in terms of style but I was surprised by some of the more 50’s big band beats on some tracks. I really liked the melody of You See Me Crying but my favourite on the album was Adam’s Apple so I added it to my ultimate playlist.
Sure, it’s got some classic tracks and it is a product of the time, but I Fucking hate Aerosmith.
Okay album. Nothing that I find really amazing.
204/1089 - Went in one ear and out the other. Sounded like music.
I like this one a bit less than Rocks.
Sweet Emotion is a classic. Walk This Way is better with Run D.M.C. Big Ten Inch Record is awful.
Again enjoyed it more than expected. Once again I was surprised that the album was as old as it was.
I guess it's Loathsome Human Beings week around here. Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way are unarguably great, Toys and No More No More are ok, and the rest is unremarkable jock rock and drippy power ballads.
This sounds like Aerosmith got into rock 20 years too late. Sabbath and Zeppelin were already around, but they still sound like a cover band going down the list of a Johnny Rockets jukebox.
I had higher hopes but was still good. Favourite Song: Walk This Way Honourable Mention: No More, No More
bumped this to a 3, feels like a more appropriate rating after further consideration
I always find Aerosmith to be one of those cool 70’s bands and this def lives up to that legacy !
Hell yeah, some more great classic rock. This album has the some of the best Aerosmith classics like Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion, but I'm interested to see if any other songs here stand out. After 1 listen...nope. Pretty generic sounding rock outside of the 2 singles. Actually feel a little disappointed. I can only get to a High 3.
I had a Limewire version of Walk This Way 20 years ago that had a skip in the middle of the song and I still anticipate that skip to this day. Sweet Emotion still rocks. Rest of the album felt incohesive, but was fine.
Another Aerosmith album! Gotta say I haven't been entirely impressed by the 2 we had prior, but I at least know 2 of these songs on here and I like them a lot. Not a whole lot of the other songs did much for me tbh. Round and Round I liked though. High 3. Aerosmith just ain't for me
Never been a huge fan, but this album does have some good bangers.
Quite listenable.
Sweet emotion saves it from being a 2
Normal
Besides the 2 hits, just not all that interesting. Plus it's not even the best version of "Walk This Way" so take what you will from that.
i suppose it was nice to hear the original for the REM cover Toys in the Attic. Still very traditional Rock, but not nearly as bad as I was expecting. Not going to listen to it again, but it was ok. First song and last song were as about as good as it got. Not sure what makes it so special it has to be on this list though 3 stars
Not a bad listen.
Better than Coldplay
Good classic rock. Get rid of “Big Ten Inch Record” and it’s a 4. With its is a 3.5.
Good rock album to hear at the side. Not more, not less.
Sweet Emotion is Aerosmith’s best song for sure. A 5 star song. Walk This Way is of course great too. Much of the album is solid enough to push it into classic territory for a lot of people. Big Ten Inch Record is a stupid-ass idiot dumb song that almost single handedly subtracts two stars from me.
Does any band have the highest highs and the lowest lows than Aerosmith? This is probably their best album. The two hits are great, but there are some low points too.
Stones-like swagger and Zepp-like riffing, with an Amercan accent. Good stuff, but not my first choice of US rock albums for 1975. Or even of that month...Tees Hombres also came out them . Obviously Walk This Way catches the attention, but it's all good.
3.5 I’ma be real, I enjoyed this more than I expected. Aerosmith for the most part annoys the shit out of me, falling too far on the “white guy blues” scale, which is one of my least favorite genres of music. And while there’s definitely a couple tracks here like that, it’s mostly tuneful, hook driven rock! Tyler’s voice is solid, and the production is really polished and draws you in. Also short!
Good album.
I wasn't aware that this is the album from which their songs "Walk this Way" and "Sweet Emotion" originated.
Well-produced, catchy tunes with a hard rock edge. The deep cuts are as good as the hits, which is rare for a lot of the albums on this list.
it was okay
Pre-listening thoughts: I used to get Aerosmith mixed up with Foreigner and Boston as a kid. To be so real I still sometimes cannot tell the difference Post/during listening thoughts: well this was certainly an Aerosmith album! I think it’s just pretty standard classic rock. Outside of their hits I’m not sure they’re a band worth doing a discography deep dive. Also I may be persecuted for this opinion but Run DMC’s Walk This Way is better. 5.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: Big Ten Inch Record, Sweet Emotion Least fav tracks: Toys in the Attic
"Sweet Emotion" is STILL such a banger...without that and the (RUN DMC-less) "Walk This Way" it's a two.
Pretty good
The album passed without registering at all.
3.5
2nd Aerosmith album listen, similar energy to "Pump", however I think I prefer Pump more. this was a solid 3, except for that crappy big 10 inch record song.
5/10 Pedestrian - kinda weak sounding for a hard rock album. Sweet Emotion is great, but the rest is fairly average fodder. Yes, even Walk This Way, which has an obviously excellent riff, but was strangely flat
Growing I thought Aerosmith was a way bigger deal than they are because they somehow got their own Guitar Hero game. 3 stone cold classics here and a bunch of mid. Fuck Steven Tyler. 6/10
Aerosmith were always better at writing singles than a full album experience, and this is proof. Of course it sold a ton of copies, it's got "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way", arguably their best and most important songs (though the latter wasn't nearly as important until Rick Rubin talked Run-DMC into touching it). The rest of the album is fine by comparison, a mixed bag of solid songs and weak ones. None of it is especially terrible, thankfully, but it's safe to say most people won't remember the non-singles for very long after it ends. If you want a good collection of Aerosmith songs, your best bet is to make a playlist of them as it'll save you from all the filler.
Two big hits: Walk. This Way Sweet Emotion Uncle Salty has elements that are found in Shania Twain's 'I Feel Like a Woman'
Just not my vibe tbh 57/100
Not particularly exciting all across the board, but this record surprised me in many areas. For starters, the grand, orchestral production on the closing track "You See Me Crying" grants the album an epic, emotionally charged conclusion. "Adam's Apple" is an excellent deep cut, probably my favorite song from the band outside of "Dream On". Speaking of which, one of my biggest gripes with this album is Steven Tyler's voice. I don't know exactly how to describe it, but there's a timbre to his voice that I don't like very much. It's minor, but still worth noting. The hits on here do their job, for the most part. The biggest jab I can give "Sweet Emotion" is that I feel a lack thereof when listening. The chorus is far too blasé to match the kickass riff. "Walk This Way" doesn't see this tonal dissonance between its' constituent parts as much, but I still think the hook should be grander. Overall, not a bad record from Aerosmith at all.
A classic. I was only 11 when it was originally released, but "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion" were FM radio staples my entire life from that point on. I've always enjoyed their hits, but I haven't been a fan in general or really dug very deeply into their catalog. I've heard this one all the way through before and enjoy it.
Obvious why the hits are the hits. They’re bangers but everything else is forgettable.
Good Album with a couple of great standout songs
I'm not a classic rock guy and the songs on this album have been played to death on the radio, but I thought there were a few good riffs. 6/10
This album was actually a lot better than I expected. Walk This Way is a classic, but the Run DMC version is such a giant step up from the original. I found myself yelling "She told me to..." in between lines in the chorus. Liked Songs Added: Sweet Emotion
I grew up and still live in region of Massachusetts where everyone has an Aerosmith story. I have heard songs by this band on the radio on almost daily basis. They are an integral component to the soundtrack of Massachusetts. That being said, I am pretty burnt out when it comes to listening to Aerosmith. It’s not a bad album but I heard them all before.
Only "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion" are good. Rest of the album was forgettable.
Two all-time great songs in the middle of the record – "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion" – and two decent/not-completely-stupid cuts to close the record. The rest is pretty meh. One deeply resents – and takes as a personal affront – their later work (Pump, Permanent Vacay, American Idol) so rounds down accordingly.
Classic rock, couple of hits.
Two big hits and a bunch of filler. Nothing bad, just nothing to write home about.
Rätt så cool musik ändå. Ett par hits och ändå gött sound.
Underwhelming
I mean, the middle three songs on this album are out of this world. And arguably the least popular (Big Ten Inch Record) is the best. The rest...just there. So one of those beautiful 3.5s probably? Sort of Aerosmith, when they're at their best they're SO good, if not they.....I dunno, just average.
2 absolutely iconic tracks in between a lot of standard 70's rock that I won't take off if it was on, but I might not reach for if it wasn't.
3.5
Which toys made them into a soft rock band?
its definitely an aerosmith album
Pretty unremarkable music if you ask me.
I pretty much despise Aerosmith, America's non-answer to the Rolling Stones, with their brand of generic blues poser-rock fronted by the off-putting, sleazy, slumbaggy, American Idol "judge", Steven Tyler. They produced several albums that sold way too many copies than they deserved and have managed to maintain a big fan base and popularity even after over 50 years in the biz. My first exposure was probably hearing that "Dream On" song on the radio, but the first time I heard Toys In The Attic (in it's entirety) was on a cassette I found in the backlane by someone's garbage cans covered in dirt, but playable. I still have the tape and I would consider, Toys the only Aerosmith album I can listen to start to finish without cringing. It's the only Aerosmith recording I have in my collection (hey, it was "free"!) and I actually like it. This album has several songs that are worth the price of admission alone and overall it's solid. It's hard to admit that, I just wish the band quit while they were ahead, but you need to tour and make shitty records=money, to support drug habits. Too bad for us.
★★★½
Old school rock and roll and some nice riffs. 7/10
Rather liked this one. The original version of Walk This Way sounds SOOOO different.
A decent 70s rock album I suppose
Pump and Get a Grip are my favourite Aerosmith albums. And they were amazing to see live. However, this album is just a little lacklustre. But not a bad listen.
Aside from a couple of tracks including “Walk This Way”, it’s rather generic and mostly forgettable. Not their best album at all. Midway house for me.
Durchschnittlicher Hardrock ohne Genialität. Etwas rauh, etwas grob und ordentlich wild. Leider ohne echten Hit.
Solid rock/blues rock album, there are a couple of the bands big hits on here. Wasn't aware that this album was so old, always thought of Aerosmith as a more of a pop/glam rock band. But when I listened to the album now, it does fit into the mid 70s style, which I like. The songs are solid, there are a lot of interesting riffs, melodies are solid and the vocals are strong, high and fit into the arrangements very well. Aerosmith for me always had sort of a Rolling Stones vibe of intertwined instruments which blend in together and you are never quite sure who is playing what and what exactly is played. I was between a 3 and a 4, giving it a 3 in the end because there wasn't enough to wow me.
This sounds like music for boomers to commit date rape to. Gets an extra star for Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion.
Mostly don't like this, but Sweet Emotion is truly great song
A bit backgroundy - some good guitars, and an alternative (orginal) versio of Walk This Way
Is this an essential Aerosmith album? Absolutely. Do we really need more than one Aerosmith album on this list? I don't know. It is interesting to see how they evolved as a band. It's subtle but it's there. They seem to be trying to immitate a good mid era Beatles album, and that's a pretty ambitious feat even if they don't reach it. I'll give it a 3 for effort.
It’s fine. Doesn’t stand out to me much.
Good variety in songs
I guess I just know too much now, but Aerosmith just makes me feel a bit sleazy. Walk This Way is probably the best song on the album, but the lyrics feel real creepy now. There's some real solid rock on this album, especially the guitar was pretty fun. Round and Round was the standout to me, but again they gotta sing about underage girls. Album cover: (C) I don't like the name Toys in the Attic or the toy motif visually. With all the underage girl stuff, I just don't trust it.
Aerosmith being Aerosmith. I like it
Cool record and objectively great, but just not my cup of tea. Legacy band and frontman so I tip my hat but just really not in love with this kind of rock. Favorites: Toys In The Attic, Sweet Emotion, You See Me Crying
Classic 1970s rock in the style of Led Zeppelin, etc. It was fine!
Some of this is gross 70s style macho shit. Some is album filter trash. But then there are the gems. I'm not sure the gems save it.
Clearly talented musicians and have earned a place in music culture and history, but outside of the singles nothing really grabbed my attention on this album. I'm not a huge Aerosmith fan and this album didn't change that.
Pretty standard, generic dad rock band, can't go wrong with it Ended nicely on my favorite track on this, You See Me Crying
Has some hits. Only heard "Dream On" before this & it did not disappoint. Great album.
Was curious if we were going to see any Aerosmith on this list. Wouldn't exactly call them "groundbreaking" per se, but they've had some chart-topping tock hits throughout the years and figured they were a popular enough group to at least be featured once on this list. Nothing really stacks up to their sixth track "Sweet Emotion" here. In fact, it almost feels out of place here given the rest of the content. "Walk This Way" appears to have been the bigger hit at the time, but I personally always preferred the collab they did with Run-DMC in 1986 (maybe it's the hip-hop fan in me). Per usual, it was interesting reading up on the writing/production process as Steven Tyler was apparently writing lyrics as music was being completed. Not sure how unusual that is in the music industry, but struck me as unique. Regardless, pretty middling album outside of the big singles. Aerosmith always struck me as more of a "greatest hits" band.
Okay. Just okay. Wanted to dislike it more because Steven Tyler is a creep-o but my simpleton brain likes some tracks, ugh. Aerosmith were like the third choice for the rock-n-roller coaster at disney world. I always wondered why they were chosen. Like who thinks back on music history and were like "Aerosmith... now that was a band." Like there's no way. I imagine they were really popular among the people who didn't really dive into the better music of the decade. What do I know tho this shit was okay ig. Unrelated: I remember riding the aforementioned rock-n-rollercoaster as a kid and hearing "Dude Looks Like a Lady" for the first time and I thought that's a bit strange chat is this offensive? It was stuck in my head the rest of vacation, haunting me. I'm gonna go listen to it now god damn it me and my pea pleb brain. 3/5 grudgingly
I've listened to a lot of Aerosmith, my mum had a bit of a phase... never quite got it. I'd never actually sat and listened to a full album (although I've definitely heard full albums, but not paid attention). This one is quite a bit earlier than the stuff I'm more familiar with, except the hits of course. It was bluesier than I expected.
Never been the biggest Aerosmith fan but I thoroughly enjoyed this album
Aerosmith, to me, is the very definition of a middle of the road band. They have some pretty memorable songs but just a lot that that is either bad or just pretty forgettable. Aside from Walk this Way and Sweet Emotion and maybe the title track Toys in the Attic, the rest of this just felt like filler.
Another band I should like more than I do. I enjoy listening to some of their songs but as a whole I never love Aerosmith.
A solid American rock'n'roll album with classic Aerosmith songs "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way". Pretty good guitar work on this recording!
I'm not a fan of Aerosmith. I always felt they were trying to hard to be Led Zeppelin, but with less grandiose lyrics. I can confidently say that: 70s Aerosmith > 80s & 90s Aerosmith. Watching them perform on tv when I was a teen and in my 20s, I just found it embarrassing to watch Steven Tyler jumping around like that. Maybe with Liv Tyler being in one of his videos put me off, I don't know. But you can't deny their hits of the 70s: "Walk This Way," "Toys In The Attic," "Sweet Emotion" ... they're all on this album. I have always liked "Big Ten Inch Record," but my wife always contends that she married a 12-year old. So those kind of things are always funny to me. The album tapers off for me near the end, with the songs after "Sweet Emotion" being kinda unmemorable. But I think that's because "Sweet Emotion" is such a well-known song. It happened for me for "1984" as well: you get to "Hot For Teacher," and that has such a grand finish I forget there are other songs after that. And that last song, Tyler is screaming WAY too much. Anyway, on the strength of the songs there that we all know, I would be fine giving it a 3.4. It's not up to a 4, particularly since so many of the album tracks I would skip. Top tracks: title track, "Walk This Way," "Uncle Salty," "Big Ten Inch Record," "Sweet Emotion"
An good album still with good songs but did not enjoy it so much
walk this way és top, però no sé.... no m'ho he passat gaire bé escoltant-lo
first listen pretty meh
3.8
This was a bit better than the other aerosmith album we had, wasn't as overproduced and felt like they were leaning on led Zeppelin a bit more than the other one which is preferred. Run DMC version of walk this way is a lot better than the one here, think the more dynamic production is required for that song. Otherwise yep it was okay but still had a lot of the hair metal problems, 2.5.
You can definitely see how influential this album was on hard rock and heavy metal in the 80s and even the 90s grunge, alt-rock and alt-metal genres.
Some stand-out songs. Some 70 s inspired noise
Can't get into Aerosmith. It's a me issue.
A lot of filler on here huh
Aerosmith finding their voice. Decent enough but really runs out of steam towards the end
Some very good rock songs and some forgettable ones, solid singing and playing, will come back to some songs probably not the album as a whole
Not their biggest one for me
A short, ok hard rock album from the mid 1970s, there are some hit songs but the rest are fillers, but it flows together quite well. Pretty enjoyable but overall it is probably not something I would revisit again.
You see my crying er gott, dittó Walk this way, og restin er ágætis áttundarokk. Schizo þristur.
Much better than expected. But they are nowhere nearStones or Led Zeppelin.
I wasn't expecting to listen to walk this way, I may prefer this version. Other than that the album didn't really blow me out of the water
This might be the most emblematic Aerosmith record. A song like “Big Ten Inch Record” shows off the band’s musical talent while making you cringe at the extremely thinly-veiled double entendres. Points for “Sweet Emotion,” but I’m reminded why I really haven’t listened to this band since I was 13.
There's nothing inherently wrong with this, but it's not great either. There's a few bangers on here, but the rest is average.
Never been a big fan of Aerosmith, but this wasn't terrible.
I think I like this Aerosmith better than their later work. Less hair-rocky, Tyler's voice is less dominating and some songs have a rough edge. Still, there is something about it that doesn't click with me, it's probably too much influenced by traditional (Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Haley) rock and roll for me. Those typical rhythm guitars. There are several instances where I thought they were going to squeeze in "great balls of fire". It's not a bad album, but in the mid 70's you also had Led Zeppelin, Queen, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and the like... compared to those bands this album is rather conventional and well-behaved.
‘70s-‘80s hard rock is hit or miss for me, but adding a blues twist always ends up giving the album more character. In this case, I enjoyed this record more than I thought, considering I’m not particularly fond of Aerosmith
It was alright
More like 3.5
huge meh
classic rock, fun at points, lotta hits, inda bland.
Some classic riff! 3 stars
Sweet Emotion always reminds me of one of my favourite films, Dazed and Confused, so I was looking forward to this album based on that. Unfortunately the rest of the album didn’t really live up to my hopes with most of the songs nothing particularly special.
Not special, but it has some fantastic classics. I love 'Dream On' most of Aerosmith, but that isn't on here.
