Reviews (page 7 of 8)

Another rap album... Maybe it's brilliant, but it doesn't move me.

1. liquid - 1.5 2. iron - 1.5 3. today - 2 4. gold - 1 5. cold - 1 6. labelz - 1.5 7. chamber - 2 8. zhadouu - 2 9. uuind - 2 10. reportz - 2 11. man - 1.5 12. back - 1.5 13. bible - 1.5

Fun stuff that happens just rap isn't something I jam to often so this was definitely something out of the box for me

I have a positive attitude toward the Wu-Tang Clan and all its members and understand their contribution to the genre, but I'll admit without hesitation that I don't like most of hip-hop for a very simple reason. What's the most important thing in hip-hop? Lyrics, of course. For me, lyrics have always been secondary, and here, as not a native speaker, even knowing the language, it's really hard for me to evaluate the author's intent — I still don't understand a bunch of references, even though the lyrics were right there on my phone screen while I was listening. On the other hand, music as such is minimal in hip-hop: it's just background music, a sample taken and then looped throughout the song. If you don't focus on the lyrics, it gets boring very quickly. So, for hip-hop, I have one criterion: rocking / not rocking (there are exceptions, of course). Does this album rock? Well, it rocks, but it definitely won't rock for fifty minutes.

Did little for me

Cool but wouldnt say its a classic

Not my cup of tea :(

This is just another expletive-laden hip hop album. I'm so tired of hearing 'motherfucking', 'nigger' and so forth thrown around so much. Plus the album is really quite dull.

It's like a rap album and an audiobook had a malformed baby.

I'm pretty ambivalent about a lot of rap/hip-hop, and I've not listened to a lot of Wu-Tang or all their solo stuff. This album certainly doesn't do a lot to grab me. Fairly uninspired production with nothing much of interest musically, annoying film samples to start a lot of the songs, and the lyrics seem fairly unmemorable too. I'm sure it's fine if you're into that sort of stuff, but not anything I'd come back to any time soon.

Not for me

not my vibe

Not the biggest fan of wu tang and this kind of old school hiphop. Shadowboxin’ and 4th Chamber are solid, but most of these tracks are forgettable to me. 2.5 stars and rounding down

nooot my thing but I defo vibed w parts

Shadow boxing good song, not my style though 4th chamber bit better, better flow Good for those who like it I reckon

I wanted to like this more than I did. Ultimately I found it more interesting than entertaining. It seemed to me that it would have been stronger if there had been more hooks. It takes a while of absorbing music before the lyrics take hold for me, and I understand the lyrics are important here, but I couldn't tell you any of them. I liked the premise, the scope, and the artistry, but I'll probably never listen again

This album already exists on this list and it is 36 Chambers. Including this one seems like a stretch goal.

I wanted to enjoy this. But it dragged. The rhythm and bounce of the album starts off decent. But then nothing much changes. You've heard it all after the first couple of tracks.

Watered down Wu

There are flashes of insight and musicality (e.g., “Swordsman”) on Liquid Swords, but they are only flashes. There’s some real bloat on the album: a good editor might’ve removed 10-15 minutes. All that bloat makes repeat listening hard…. Weird, occasionally juvenile project. 2.5?

I'm sure it's a good album for many, but it's not for me. All the tracks sounded way too similar.

Nothing very remarkable or interesting about this, at least at this distance.

Enjoyed some of this in parts, but as a whole I got bored, not my thing.

Disappointing. Each song was pretty monotonous. The beats seemed like an afterthought. That's what draws me in and gets me to pay attention to the words. Without an interesting beat it loses my attention fast.

Klassischer Hip-Hop. Für mich nichts besonderes dabei.

This isn’t really my thing, but I can always appreciate the style of 90’s rap.

Super repetitive and nothing that I'd ever go back to. 1.8

Ich enthalte mich ere usfüehrliche Bewertig 'cause it's old school hiphop once again and me not liky zwei wassersäbel

The rap is fine. I don't like the samurai samples.

I'm not much of Wu-Tang fan, and this is really no better or worse to me than the other solo album from one of their members that I have generated so far. It just wasn't really for me. Although I will note that GZA does have good flow. Just wasn't a big fan of this one.

Some decent 90s rap, not really my thing, but not a bad album.

Get a riff, repeat it while rapping about being hard.

First time hearing this artist was an unexpected mix scf-fi samples and background music to blend with rapping Interesting, but not really for me

Some of the samples were Ok, but overall the usual rap songs with no real melodies and a lot of it sounded the same.

Nie mój typ muzyki

Może, ale to nie dla mnie

I try not to dismiss hip-hop albums as being repetitive, but if you mixed up the tracks and asked me to name each one, I really wouldn’t be able to. Expect maybe Cold World and Shadowboxin’. Honestly, it kinda speaks for the album when my favorite track ended up being the bonus track at the end. If it wasn’t for that, I’d probably almost not have a favorite track. The only real charm outside of that is the movie samples, obviously put in thanks to the Wu-Tang connection. Honestly, just makes me want to listen to Wu-Tang as a whole. Favorite track: B.I.B.L.E. Other hits: Cold World, Shadowboxin’, Hell’s Wind Staff/ Killah Hills 10304

I was not previously familiar with this. I'm not really a big fan of this genre, but this one had a bit more to offer than other rap albums I've heard. I probably still wouldn't listen again though.

it aint really my thing, but i am also a white guy, which means i cant like any hip hop that isnt eminem

5/10 Favs: Shadowboxin', Living In The World Today

Not my jam

Not my jam. I suppose it's okay, but I need more variety in the background music. Don't think I'll listen to this again.

samurai concept cool music got kinda tired/unexciting but good enough to listen to may need a relisten

No standouts, I don't think I care for the Wu Tang Clan

Didn’t really hear anything too special from this one. Kinda just came and went. Nothing bad but nothing notable.

28/08/2025 Not the worst album from a Wu member I have heard. Just not for me. Spotify listeners. 1.4 million

Probably the weakest album ive heard so far from one of the wu-tang clan members. Felt more like a cheap imitation of other works

I enjoyed this. Felt kind of like listening to a rap opera, I would like to come back to this one and pay better attention than just background music.

I don’t get the whole Shogun, ninja theme. It seemed gimmicky and out of place. Nothing there that I’d listen to again.

I have no problems with it. It's obviously good. Sometimes I like the drums. But this type of rap just makes me feel absolutely nothing. It doesn't move me. It doesn't touch me. Sorry world Fav song: Swordsman (by a LOT)

Was good but nothing really stood out to me on this

Hard core and/or East Coast rap is not my thing. I would question whether or not, as a 60 year old white man, I'm even allowed to listen to it. Some intriguing moments, but no thanks.

I liked the audio samples but the music didn’t really match the coolness of them.

Hip Hop is not one of my usual genres, and basically I am rating all these albums on how good they are as background music for me while working. Some tracks had a nice flow to them, but the movie dialog snippets where distracting.

I don't know. Interesting and experimental but not mine

There some good beats but very very repetitive

Hard pass. The samples they used are bizarre, the songs themselves are boring, I don't care about them inserting stuff from a movie... just no. I don't hate it like most 1's but I never want to hear this again

Not really for me

Don’t understand this style of music still.

I don’t understand the focus and love of Wuh Tan Clan. I didn’t like this at all

I just don't get the appeal of the gangsta, street rap. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up on the streets but I dunno. Anyways, this is just the same ole same ole, a rapper talking bout how they many peeps they've shot, how much drugs they're slinging. I didn't hate this as much as NWA or Dre but I did not enjoy.

Meh. Overuse of samples & way too much repetition with them or refrains. I just don’t get the hype on why this is one of best hip hops around

Pretty inoffensive on the ears. I can’t speak for the lyrics as I found them to be instantly forgettable. Mediocre background music at best

It was alright mate, no idea how to pronounce GZA if that means anything?

The samples from Shogun Assassin don’t really seem to serve a purpose? The almost lofi style is different to a lot of rap I’ve heard before, but I just can’t get into rap. The lyrics are repetitive and violent. He’s talented and has a good flow, but as another comment said if this was playing at a BBQ I’d ask them to turn it off.

I liked where this started, but then it all blended together. maybe requires another listen

I’m not sure why, but this album didn’t really capture my attention much. I’ve enjoyed the Wu Tang I’ve heard, and generally enjoyed the solo albums that came from it, but this is the only one I remember that I didn’t feel really had any stand out tracks. I honestly didn’t even notice when it ended. Not to say that I disliked it, I just didn’t really have any strong opinions either way.

I zašto bih slušala cijeli album takav?

not feeling it

I think this was a moment in time, but the time has passed

Too long, too many skits I won't remember I've listened to this in 2 days. Usually I'm quite forgiving with the early mid 90s rap albums, but this one isn't doing anything for me 2/5

Not for me!

Melkein kolme miinus.

Tolerable but not for me.

Very consistent vibe, not really my cup of tea though. I found this pretty boring in general

Album 728 of 1001 GZA - Liquid Swords (1995) Rating : 2.5 / 5 Certainly one of the more lyrically substantial works I've heard in the genre. Still just not my thing but it was a good listen. Nice production.

As rap albums go, this was largely listenable but I still don't like it

For an album where the lyrics are the highlight, they sure lost them in the mix. I had to blast the volume just to make out what anybody was saying. The beats are pretty repetitive if you can't enjoy the lyrics. I usually love dark and gritty New York rap. Some might say I'm a sucker for it. But geez this was a huge miss for me. Fav track was Shadowboxin'.

Another rap album with F bombs street machismo. Yawn.

The app version of this album has an extra (13th) track, which I did not review. The internet taught me that GZA is Gary Grice, who was in the Wu Tang Clan. The album follows the movie Shogun Assassin and includes movie clips throughout. It occurs to me that if there were no guns or drugs, the artists of this genre would have very little material. Cold World had actual singing, but the rest of the album was talking and poetry reading.

Yeah, you know I used to mix up GZA, RZA, and SZA. I've got SZA down now, but maybe this'll help me flesh out the paradigm. Liquid Swords is a cool name, but the album cover is a little much for me. Put that one in a paper bag!! Anyway, on to the tracks. I would have sworn I've never heard this album in my life, but all the titles are super familiar, so maybe I've actually listened to it before, in college or something. Very clean flow, no songs I think sound *bad* - it's well-made, in other words - but there are plenty of slurs, which is still not something I want to listen to. I do kinda like all the Shogun Assassin samples, because it reminds me of a Robin Skouteris mashup. Lotta Medina talk. Highlight: 'Gold'

The beats are alright, but a little too repetitive. Some synths are annoyingly high-pitched. I don't think his rapping was bad, but it could have been a bit more dynamic.

hey not bad

Ok, the good stuff first. I love the extended clips from the cult movie Shogun Assassin and some of the chilled lo-fi beats on this are really nice, making this less of a sonic assault than some hip hop albums. On the downside, the lyrics sound interesting but (and not to be prudish, but well) the endless torrent of mother effin n-words on every other line make it difficult to follow what he’s trying to say. Not my thing, sorry.

Probably decent 90's rap... but rap isn't really my thing.

Not my jam

Surely a musical genius, but I don't get it :(

I wish I could enjoy this genre. I feel like I am missing out.

Not really into Hip Hop but you know, gotta give these things a go. Listened to it with my son who is in to this type of music and he was quick to point out the repetitive 90’s hip hop hi hat that was in every single song! And because of this we would find that 2 tracks had gone past without us realising

I’m sure there’s a lot of respect to give this man and I’m sure he’s talented. The vibe is just not in line with me.

I like some tap but there has to be a good underlying groove. Didn’t feel it on this one, and not into the subject matter so it’s a miss for me.

Not as bad as some of the other Rap I've been subjected to to but still not for me. This album is a bit gentler and kinder on the ears then most rap I've come across so I'll give it a 2

Not attending too much to the individual lyrics. I like the flow, the beats, nice background. Drug dealing and gang warfare too stereotypical to attend to. So, I like the sound, content less so.

This man knows his work. But I don't like it.

Didn’t grab me like a should have

Nothing stands out except the movie quotes and that probably wasn’t the intention

Nothing special, forgettable. Expected more from a Wu Tang Clan member

Every song sounded the same and none were interesting at all

I didn't find this too interesting, very monotone and rambling compared to contemporaries

Amazing

Production wasn’t engaging, lyrical ability was skilled but sometimes failed to entertain or entrance

I really wanted to like this record, but felt uninterested. It's clear that GZA is a great lyricist with a good flow and lots of dimensionality to his lyrics, but the songs as a whole were repetitive imo. RZA's a great producer but the beats don't match GZA's voice and flow which made for a dull listen; if I was rating off of GZA's spoken word rather than the album as a whole then maybe the rating would be higher

I heard it, but hiphop isnt for me. No variety in the beat or something, and idk what they saying

I’m not hating this. I’m certainly not liking it though. I’m finding it sonically dull. Very much not to my taste. I like the film samples more than the album. ** If someone was playing this I wouldn’t be like, what the hell are you listening to, but I would be happy when it was over.

Not familiar with this album at all but know of WuTang and GZA. Saw him perform solo a few years ago, amazing to see someone rhyme like that without reading anything, sharp brain. While this is not exactly in my wheelhouse I gave it a solid listen. I liked how they set the table on the intro so you get the concept they're going for. You can understand what he's saying, it's intelligent & engaging, more storyteller than rapper. I enjoyed it, glad I heard it but it wasn't life altering and I didn't find a great song that I can't believe I'd never heard before. Not a Top 1001 in my book.

Slightly confused as to why this one is so propped up, but I certainly can't pretend to be a hip-hop expert. As an outsider, this is extremely one-note and not half as interesting as quite a few rap albums also on this list. 2.5/5

Not for me

The rapper has a nice flow but these songs all sound very similar. Might have reached a 3 with more variety. Middle 2.

I’m totally gangsta when I listen to this.

Not big on rap, just found the production a bit of a slog.

It’s okay I guess ? Not really my thing

No for me

That's not my style when it comes to hip hop. The beats too boring, the flow too monotonous, the voice too colorless. The best were the skits between the songs.

i didnt know what i thought of this, since i dont normally listen to hiphop or rap, so i dont know, but it was alright

# Playlist track - B.I.B.L.E. (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth) # Notes - The album have its moments! Sometimes the flow, the samples and the mood hit just right. - Waiting for those moments is a bit boring tho. - Maybe more context on the time, the culture, or even Wu Tang would reveal me more about the tracks. There definitely seems to be a layer of it for people in the know. - I doubt I'll come back to look for them. In my -admittedly limited- experience, it's just another rap album and shouldn't be in this list.

Another rap album. Blech. Same as all the others. Not quite as obnoxious.

Nothing super special but nothing downright bad. Just not for me

not really a rating, but I was a little disappointed by this one I lost interest halfway through as it was a bit tedious

A classic of the genre, so it merits its inclusion on the book. Sadly, the genre just isn't for me.

Interesting stories

Interesting... But not for me

Took a while to ‘get into’ this one. The beats were pretty basic and the production/samples really quite subtle, but it grew on me as a general vibe. However, lyrics are never my main focus and rap generally just passes me by. So who knows what they were mostly talking about, but it seemed on the, err, light side of gangsta which is a plus (compared to some of the childish/tasteless stuff we’ve had on this list). The samples of the manga stuff were a nice touch. Am I gonna listen to it ever again though, nah.

This was never really going to be my thing. This project hasn’t changed things. I like my rap a little brighter and more fun.

3/10 - It was just another rap album. I did not like it or dislike it that much more than the other ones so its in the same place.

I mean...it is very familiar. The beats are consistent, so it all sounds similar. I almost enjoyed the little sound clips between pieces more than the music hoping for a story or something. Should it be on the list though? I could have skipped this one.

I don’t dislike Wu Tang and all the spin offs. But it’ll never be something I crave to listen to. This one wasn’t bad. 2.5

This is not really my type of music and although it is from 1995, I never really liked rap where they just talk, which used to be norm up until some point but I like the ones that have more rhythm and more things happening throughout.

Good samurai

Hip-hop. Bastante monótono y rollo. Un 2.

Isn't rappers' thing that they are supposed to be, like, cool? Cause honestly this guy was a bit pathetic and amateurish. The only songs that were okay were the collabs. Stand-out: Cold World

Wow, great host and great guests which should pop but it don't to me.

Oh I tried, but I'm not interested enough to find the differences in these hip-hop albums. Hip-Hop started when I was a kid but post 1990 it just seemed to be come an industry and the only way to mark yourself out is by how many times you use the N-Word. This did have original spare sounding backing tracks. This is wasted on me.

I’m not that big of a fan of rap

Umm... Yeah... It's fine. Just sounds like every other album from these guys. Backbeats and tunes are just cut and paste.

01) Liquid Swords - 6,0 02) Duel of the Iron Mic - 5,5 03) Living in the World Today - 5,5 04) Gold - 5,0 05) Cold World - 6,0 06) Labels - 5,0 07) 4th Chamber - 5,5 08) Shadowboxin' - 5,0 09) Hell's Wind Staff / Killah Hills 10304 - 6,0 10) Investigative Reports - 5,0 11) Swordsman - 5,0 12) I Gotcha Back - 5,5 13) B.I.B.L.E. - 5,5 TOTAL: 5,42 (54/100) Current ranking: 200/229 I don't like these endless movie dialogues and skits. Honestly, I don't really like the album either. It's kind of boring, the songs all have the same dark atmosphere, uninspiring samples and I can't tell one from the other if my life depends on it.

Not quite my thing

Not my thing, and I wasn't really jn the mood for it either today. Long and dull, although the snippets of film dialogue did break things up nicely. It was nowhere near terrible, but I didn't enjoy it.

Hip Hop is always going to be a tough listen for me. But…I stuck it out & appreciate this effort. Wu Tang is a lot & this guy is a lot of it, at least 1/9. As close to a mellow Rap album I’ve ever listened to, not the stereotypical hardcore Hip Hop…maybe if I turned it up. Out the top 5 favorite Hip Hop albums I like, which are none, this might make the list.

intro mitem chind isch cute. und denn de erst song slappt hert. mga geile beat. er flowt seeehr cool. huere viel hall uf sinere stimm? duel of the iron mic hetmi weniger mitgnoh, immerno laid back cool. living in the world today sehr coole beat, alles chli agspannt harmonisch aber trotzdem laid back. er cha reime oy. immer wieder die filmdialög passed mega findi. uf cold world machter huere geili reim und mer ghört hert sin new yorker (?) akzent. de sänger singt glaub chli ide falsche tonart? tönt jo huuuuere ass labels. ja figg labels (glaub da isch d message vom song). es git e vierti kammere? ha gmeint d schwiz het nur zwei? aber geeeeile beat. irgendwie sind alli beats sochli atonal, bzw die verscheidene samples sind in verschiedene tonarte. ok gnau da findi etz mit de ziit gad bi 4th chamber chli ahstrengend. shadowboxin isch okay, de beat nervt chli mitm "oh man" wo immer so abschniidet. finds würkli langsam chli dark das ganze. investigative reports het e meeega geili luftigi kick mitem bass zeme. swordsman au wieder afoch dark und atonal und so.

Not my cup of tea

intro was very unique and different. kinda creepy. the rap itself was okay. 3/10

I had the soundtrack to Shogun Assassin on vinyl in the 80s. Wish I was listening to that instead. Lazy sampling & monotonous flow. When is this original "music" exactly?

it was pretty boring.

GZA is one of the founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan. Liquid Swords is his second solo album, which was release after Wu-Tang's debut, is very well regarded as a hip hop classic. This is more melodic than most of the genre, but is still not terribly melodic. GZA is on a rant - and his rants aren't interesting enough to be engaging.

Love the beats and the lyricism, but just didn't hit for me

No recuerdo ninguna canción de este disco

Not memorable and a bad sign if the autoplay tracks after it left more of an impression

This is the second solo studio album by American rapper and Wu-Tang Clan member GZA. Similarly to the group's other solo endeavors, GZA created this album with the help and guest appearances of the other Wu-Tang Clan artists. This album uses clips from "Shogun Assassin" and the title, "Liquid Swords," references being lyrically sharp like a blade.

Good bars and I think had I listened to it in its prime it would have been different. After being exposed to Wu Tang I was expecting something different I guess.

I'm disappointed. 36 Chambers was one of my favorite hip hop albums. I wanted to love this, but it falls short. GZA just doesn't have the poetry for me. His lyrics are clever, his flow is proficient and this themes are interesting, but there's just something missing with the sound. The very best rappers paint lyrics that sing on their own. Just the sound of the words against each other, even devoid of meaning, are compelling. I just don't get it on this album. Just don't feel it.

only had time to listen to half today. might finish later but idk i didn't love it. Never listened to any wu-tang related thing before so this was new!

It’s fine , hard edged but slightly soulless hip hop Lack of musical variation brings it down.

Nothing about this appealed to me, although I think we’ve heard worse.

A fairly new Swedish game studio is called 'Liquid Swords', I feel pretty sure that this is where that name comes from. Anyways, the album cover game me some manga vibes so I had a hard time figuring out what kind of music this would be before putting it on. Even though it is from mid 90s (which usually is where I usually find most hip-hop that I like), this was not really to my taste. I can't really put my finger on why, it just didn't stand out somehow. It felt kind of like the hip-hop equivalent of the Black Crowes album we heard the other day, just quite boring and nothing special - though admittedly this is a bit better than that. Strong 2 for me.

Wasn't a fan. A couple of times I found myself in a trance like thing listening, which might have been the point. But I can't ever see trying to listen to this one again. And I hated the movie clips.

So dull

Not for me but I respect the artistry

I'm not sure there's a standout song, and many seemed a bit repetitive.

Interesting to listen to but not one I knew or prolly listen to again. Good beats. Not a big fan of some of the lyrics although I respect where it comes from.

Not really my thing man, some were okay but didn't really stand out for me, sorry to say. 4.5/10 #55

A typical 90s rap album, but nothing too memorable

This is what you would get from a clockwork rap album producing machine - it is completely predictable, dull and includes the obligatory fly on the wall segment in the middle which explodes into argument and threats to show how authentic they are - exactly as every other rap album of the era does.

Yawn, yet another '90s explicit lyrics rap album. I couldn't understand a lot of the lyrics, but the words I did understand made it clear it's not anything I'd be interested in anyway. Had some movie dialogue interspersed. For what reason? No idea. Barely 2/5.

It’s pretty enjoyable for the parts where you can zone out and not hear all the NGE/nation of Islam hate group stuff

I don’t really think I was in the mood for this today. It was fine, I guess? I just never got into it.

As far as Wu-Tang goes, I liked this more than most. But I still can't get into Wu-Tang stuff. I think the beats are a bit boring and the hooks are generally underwhelming. I want to be one of the cool kids who likes Wu-Tang, and I can't do it.

GZA more like ZZZZZZZ

I've listened to the first 7 songs. That's enough. Perfectly acceptable rap album. But I just can't get into this shit the same way i once did....

Nothing about this whatsoever appeals to me. The struggle is real today.

It was ok. Chill tunes and nice rapping. Not quite my style. Questionable opinions, kinda cool theme with the samurais but didn't quite get it.

Went over my head. I'll have to give it another listen sometime. Very amateurish, but that's not a bad thing.

I´m really not into Hip-Hop/Rap but this one sucks less than others.

I don’t get it

Meh, might grow on me

Flat-sounding Wu-Tang spin-off rap, uninteresting backing track. Not my thing.

I think this album is going to be the record that makes me realize I just really find this type of hip-hop TERRIBLY boring. I think I always kind of knew that lyrically impressive hip-hop artists that rely mostly on their story telling and inventive ways of rhyming never really excited me the way it does others. And while I do appreciate someone like GZA who was doing stuff like this decades before it really hit the mainstream, it just does absolutely nothing for me. There was some cool production choices on this, I really enjoy the old school martial arts film snippets placed throughout. But I just can't pay attention to the lyrics long enough to really say anything too deep about this record.

Not my style but it could be worse

A small step above some of the other godawful hip hop I’ve heard here. GZA isn’t for me at all and I’ll never listen to him again, but I at least made it through the record without wanting to throw my device out the window.

Good rap album, but a lot of it started to blend together.

Not really my thing but ok.

No idea what this is. Ah - 90s Gansta Rap. This just isn’t good. Bad production, boring beats. Didn’t bother delving into the lyrics. Apparently this guy was part of wu tang clan - I get his influence on the genre but I don’t like this one at all.

Certainly better than most of the current rap music I hear. I kind of get this.

Here we go with hip hop, post 80's. I just don't get it. I though a couple beats and grooves were decent, but it just couldn't keep my interest. I use to watch Chapelle back in the day. This guy did a song called Knock, Knock. This, I felt is a solid song. Have it downloaded as part of my rap collection and listened right after this album was done. That song not on the album. Bummer. 2

Hip-hop. Bastante monótono y rollo. Un 2.

not for me

Warum das kein Wu-Tang Album ist, unklar. Eintönig und hinter der Zeit, imho

Quite boring, nothing of note

Not for me.

Lyrics are deep and meaningful. I’m not a rap fan

Wu-Tang is not for me.

Justin will probably kills me for this rating but I just can’t get into this album. I’m more interested in music than lyrics and this album is heavily tilted the other way. The one track I kinda liked is the last one (BIBLE).

Really not into this

No muy memorable

Totally zoned out. Forgot I was even listening to anything. Went back to the beginning and started again. After 3 tracks I was bored senseless. I find gangsta rap bad 98% of the time, good 2%, but this is the first time I've had no emotion to it. What a boring album. Boring beats, boring lyrics. 2* but I don't know why. Probably because I reserve 1* for albums I really dislike but I'm entirely indifferent to this.

Hip hop has a serious problem with boring, same ol' same ol' lyrics and tone. I understand there's technical skill to phrasing, rhyming, sampling, etc., but the genre maintains such tight parameters you hardly get any variety across artists, let alone an album. I mean four decades after RUN DMC rappers are still saying the exact same things the same way. And there's almost nothing thought-provoking or emotionally engaging in it. There are exceptions of course and I like Tribe, the Beasties, Deltron, Public Enemy, and a few other unique-sounding artists. But GZA's Swords doesn't seem interesting to me just because he rhymes about chess and being wise like Abraham. And haven't kung fu movies been sampled plenty of times before Wu Tang?

Apparently meant to be one of the best lyrical journeys? Beats are meant to be innovative and interesting but I found it quite repetitive.

Dry production. A bit dated.

Not really my vibe but it's alright, I liked the instrumentals

Repetitive

# 108 : it's listenable, but rap is not my thing. Interesting and annoying samples throughout. The beats are all out of time and tune. not much fun. Favourite Track : Shadow Boxing Listened : 13/11/2023

I can appreciate the talent and art, which is something I never would’ve thought myself capable saying about a rap album, but I just don’t care for rap. If I were a fan of the genre, I could see this being great; it’s just not great to me.

Not bad but I don’t t like gangster rap. So I can only give two stars…

I liked the rhythm and general vibe of the album which is very 1990s. On the other hand I admit it's difficult to carefully listen to the lyrics of a long hip-hop album like this, and understand what it's about for those who aren't native speakers. So I feel like I'm missing half the fun here. But one thing is sure: I didn't like all the profanities...

It wasn't bad or anything Rap is just not for me. However the older Rap and HipHop does have something cool about it and it sounds so much cleaner than the modern stuff. Interesting album, not my taste.

Not bad, but nothing to bring me back.

Enjoyed the closing track but found a lot of the rest musically bland. Quite liked the novelty of the samurai story between tracks.

Not my taste in music. I can appreciate the artistry, but not an album I would normally choose to listen to.

Hip hop. Coñazo.

Not a fan. All the rhythms and vocalizations are so similar throughout the album that it feels like only one song is on the album

Nothing much that resonated with me on this album. 2.5 stars

Veel van hetZelfde

Weer een hoop gescheld en ge-this en that.

Kan ik missen.

Was expecting more.

Sometimes I don't get all the hype around Wu-Tang Clan, and this exceptionally average hip-hop album from one of the founders is good proof of it.

Nice change to get 90s hip hop. Didn't care much for a lot of the story telling or spoken word at the beginning of a lot of the songs. Kinda threw off the vibe or momentum in between songs. I can tolerate that when its at the beginning of the album etc. Overall, it was okay.

I listened to this so long ago... I forget. But I did listen, and don't remember it impressing me much.

didn't listen fully, not as good as wu tang

Interesting, but generally I didn't enjoy it much.

I just have no interest. I listened to the first track and I gave up. I’m sure it’s good if you like this sort of thing.

I'm not into it. I like the kung-fu elements, but I'm not feeling the beats or rapping at all really. They don't feel particularly innovative or interesting.

I respect this album and its dark spooky atmosphere, but I don't actually enjoy listening to it much.

Rap isn't really my thing, so this didn't do much for me. It's fine, but boring. Some of the spoken parts were interesting. I guess my favourite song was Liquid Swords, but I don't remember what anything sounds like.

Good rap album definitely some good and bad songs

Again not really my jam but I can appreciate the lyrics and skill

I liked the excerpts from the old martial arts movies better than the actual music and that’s not a good sign. Not sure what all the fuss is about, but this is pretty pedestrian hip-hop to me.

Tja t is old school hip hop met vrij weinig crossover appeal.

Rap nope

Shadowboxin' and B.I.B.L.E. are interesting, the rest of the album is quite bland, repetitive. I don't really feel the vibe

not my jam

Not good. I enjoy hip hop but this just had me bored. Very repetitive and bland.

I didn't particularly care for it.

The sound mixing/ samples used on this are fire. Really well made album. I love how songs flow into each other I’m not a huge fan of rap at the best of times but this is definitely a vibe. Hard to know what rating to give An album, artist or genre I would have never listened to before so it was definitely a cool experience Favourite song - Gold

Something special about sitting and have someone rhyme at you for an hour, some fantastic lines dotted throughout and i liked the Wu Tang callbacks Solidly decent, never reaches any particularly high quality but no dips either, Shadowboxin', I Gotcha Back are the standout hits for me Simpin' for Jesus at the end caught me off guard, definitely wasn't expecting what i think is black Israelite stuff? Full of irony and drops the album for me, poor closing

Gjorde ikkje så masse inntrykk

Minus the other members of Wu-Tang, this ended up sounding a little same-y as the tracks wore on.

Maybe the G is for grossly overrated. I like the incorporation of the films, I just wish they had anything to do with the music.

Not immediately my thing but quite an interesting trip hop feel to a hip hop album. I don't think I'd want to listen again though, so gets a low mark.

regular hip hop

Find this pretty dull wu tang without the edge

I'm starting to think I'm not much of a Wu-Tang Clan sort of person. Both this and when I scanned through 36 chambers were pretty unnotable to me. Perhaps I'm being too hasty, as I said I only scanned through one of them, but I found this pretty boring.

Pure art and yet, not for me.

Think I listened to this?

I quite liked it to start with but that when I thought it was going to be a story about some samurais... if it was - I couldn't follow it.

i mean it was fine, nothing really stood out though.

I tried, but I just couldn't get into this. I think I'm allergic to most 90s rap :( 2/5

An interesting and complex hip hop album. Rating: 2.5/5 Playlist track: Shaddowboxin Date listened: 04/01/23

i can appreciate it for what it is but also not my thing 😭😭

Can't Am too hungover Will rate based on cover Solid 2 The most listenable of all wu-tang members

supaboring, yo

Some cool beat production. I really like the strange dissonances- Cold World sounds like it’s on 3 different keys at once. I was enjoying the album but the pro-life lyrics at the end kind of ruined it for me

Didn't really catch my attention

Not really my thing, for the most part.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I just didn't dig this. The theatrics and bits of dialogue from movies intertwined with the music was admirable though.

Yeah nah

i wanted to like this but it just didn't do it for me, it might be the skits, the failure might be mine

GZA is an OG and a solid rapper, but he was not at the top of my list of favorite Wu Tang alum. This album is okay, but the beat/music is actually pretty "cheap" and distracting on most of these tracks. My favorite parts were not GZA, but the features by other rappers. Just okay.

I enjoy modern hip-hop but I'm not really into this decade's rap. I respect the great storytelling and craftsmanship of this album but it's just not my thing unfortunately. First Listen?: Y Fav. Tracks: Shadowboxin' Rating: 2/5

+ west coast is better, sorry not sorry

Call me narrow-minded, but I just can't get into gangsta rap. Hip hop in general isn't my go-to music, but give me some hard hitting social and political commentary and I can really get into it. But guys bragging about their actual or notional murders, drug empires, guns, and intimidation of all and sundry? No thanks. Some good atmospheric beats and some nice flow in places (though not many, to my taste). So two stars from me (one star being no redeeming qualities but reviewed).

Some people like this sh!t. I am not one of them.

Not for me. It simply isn’t music to my ears. 1

More rap. A bit like MF Doom?

If you like hip hop this is your cup of tea

Literally cannot remember any songs off of the album; only 50 minutes of sitting and going through agonising depths of boredom. This is the second rap album I had to endure this week and I just can’t, not my cup of tea. Stay safe y’all. Favorites: none.

i tried listening to this twice. Both times i got hella bored. The backing tracks are sooo generic and extremely repetitive to the point that it starts sounding like nails on a chalkboard. i know it's ''wu tang clan'' and ''badass'' and ''very gangstaaa'', but no i couldn't bring myself to finish the album. and i really wanted to like it. shame.

They re all the same why do you torture us with these Nigga shoot mc etc etc

No es mi estilo. No lo volvería a escuchar

Walmart mf doom & wu tang cringeeeeeee

Rap. Not music.
