Not as good as white elephant but I like the doorbell song

It was okay.

Blue orchid good but this is more folksy than I thiught

Part of the appeal of The White Stripes is Meg’s rudimentary yet powerful drumming and Jack’s sloppy but memorable guitar riffs. On this album, they seem to have taken that ethos and applied it to piano, but I’m not sure it pays off in the same way. There are a couple excellent tracks on this record (“Blue Orchid,” “My Doorbell”), but a lot of it just doesn’t quite work. Still, I like listening to it. My heart says it’s a 4, but my brain says 3… I think my brain wins.

Of popular garage rock revival bands, the White Strips is perhaps my least favorite. This album, however, switches things up on occasion with more innovative songwriting. So it's pretty good.

Surprised to see this one before Elephant. It started strong, but got weak in the back half. I appreciate them branching out but meh. 3*. Highlights: blue orchid (goes hard for an opener), my doorbell, the denial twist (similar groove to my doorbell)

get a bass player, white stripes! jk they’re all right

Some pretty solid tracks. 60s era rock/folk vibes, but on the best sounding tracks I feel like I am listening to a slightly tweaked cover of an older song I can't quite place.

A little repetitious for my liking. Makes good background music.

Solid, hard rocking album with some interesting forays into a rootsier sound. Jack White makes good albums, full stop. I'm still unconvinced though whether he can make a great one. Overall quality is a bit uneven, with a few outstanding tracks and more than a few skippable ones. Fave Songs: Blue Orchid; My Doorbell; The Denial Twist; Take, Take, Take; Red Rain

I alternated between "wait this is kinda cool" and "they're losing me now" so many times that it made me dizzy. First track is great, My Doorbell is fun, Little Ghost has a fake country accent. Definition of a 3-star album.

Didn’t really like any songs until Little Ghost. After that I enjoyed pretty much all the songs, though I don’t think I’ll come back to this album anytime soon. Favorite songs: Little Ghost, As Ugly As I Seem.

Lyrically its too generic for me, i feel like i've heard these lyrics hundreds of times. I love its structure and arrangement, the experimental sound is really refreshing with the use of piano and marimba.

Very strong beginning, kinda flat ending

Just not much of a White Stripes fan

B- Blue Orchid 3 The Nurse 3 My Doorbell 3 Forever For Her (Is Over For Me) 3 Little Ghost 3 The Denial Twist 3 White Moon 3 Instinct Blues 3 Passive Manipulation 3 Take, Take, Take 3 As Ugly As I Seem 3 Red Rain 3 I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet) 3 The White Stripes? More like The Overrated Stripes! Ha!

Lite on the hits, but still a solid WS album. You know what to find here.

Rock, Country, what is it?

Not my genre

I liked the white stripes in the 00s but listening for the first time in 10-15 years I didn't find as enjoyable, the singles are good but rest of the album feels like it's padded out with fillers, hasn't aged that well in terms of my tastes but not a bad album overall

Like before but with more piano and less magic

Very raw, some rock, some not quite. Style of music jumps around quite a bit. Didn't know they were such songwriters.

Favorite track: My Doorbell

Jack White proved with this album that he can write songs using random objects he found around the house. Distortion is a lot harder for me to get down with these days.

Overall, a quiet album, which I wasn't expecting but felt intimate and personal because of it. I enjoyed this more than I expected. 4

Not totally my album, even though I like the White Stripes and love Jack White.

It’s alright. Some of the songs were fantastic; others, meh. I don’t really dig Jack whites voice, so this isn’t the most fun thing to listen to.

Blue Orchid 7/10 The Nurse 6/10 My Doorbell 8/10 Forever For Her (Is Over For Me) 7/10 Little Ghost 7/10 The Denial Twist 7/10 White Moon 5/10 Instinct Blues 6/10 Passive Manipolation 6/10 Take, Take, Take 7/10 As Ugly As I Seem 6/10 Red Rain 6/10 I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet) 5/10

I liked this more than I thought I would!

Personally, I'm a little hit and miss with The White Stripes, but this was a pretty good one.

It was pretty good. Made me want to fix my doorbell

White Stripes are one of those bands that everyone gushed about during the early 2000's. But I know more about their image than their music. The whole Red/White/Black thing... Were they siblings? Spouses? Both!?!?! And Jack White being touted as the greatest guitarist of the millennia. The only song I could identify as their was 7 Nation Army, which is one of the most overplayed bits in ages. Anyway, on to the music: Overall, this is fine. Pretty good even. Not my favorite, but certainly solid. Probably the closest I have in collection to this is Them Crooked Vultures. The highpoint was "The Denial Twist", because I'm quite familiar with Weird Al's parody "CNR". You know how it is. or you should. Anyway, yeah it's good. Certainly NOT boring. I'd probably go 3.5 if I could. But this one'll round down to 3 3/5

I thought I would like this more. There were a few songs I really wasn't into but I have to give at least 3 for blue orchid and denial twist

The driving rock is infectious. There is an interesting range of sounds on the album though, showing folk influences at times as well.

White Blood Cells was the breakthrough album and likely deserves to be in the book. Everything before and after that is either building or rehashing the sound that was best exemplified on White Blood Cells. Pass on this.

I much preferred The White Stripes' guitar based sound over what Satan has to offer. On the other hand, this is still very high quality rock music, and the duo has to be commended for not staying in place. Which side wins? I'll put it this way, this album does not light my fire. I wonder if I would have paid it much attention if it wasn't for the band's name and its past glory.

Blue Orchid - Harsh, dirty, JUST MY STYLE. The Nurse - Sounds like the Yooka-Laylee OST but performed by emos. My Doorbell - The Beatles meets a white rapper and a drummer who's dressed like Shakespeare. Forever For Her - The Marimba sounds nice. Little Ghost - Too cheesy for me, but is fine. The Denial Twist - Not fan of this. White Moon - Better than the other songs, except for Blue Orchid. Instinct Blues - Some Rock Blues for the song, I want to believe that this is the best half of the album. Passive Manipulation - Too passive. Take, Take, Take - Too passive, but the harmony is good. As Ugly As I Seem - I can vibe with this, this is good. Red Rain - Spongebob music with distortion, now I want to live in the ocean. I'm Lonely - Meh, not a big fan. Although is a pretty solid album, it didn't matched with me. Top 3 Blue Orchid Red Rain As Ugly As I Seem

Solid album. I've slept on The White Stripes as I can only listen to Jack Whites voice in small quantities. That being said, he is a very under rated musician. And hardly spoken about as a guitar player. At least to my knowledge. This album isn't perfect, there's some songs that I've already forgotten but there are some solid songs on that I won't forget: Blue Orchid, My Doorbell, Little Ghost to name a few. Enjoyed this album but it isn't my favourite. I'm glad to see how much Jack White as progressed from his years in White Stripes.

jack white at his most obnoxious - unlike white blood cells no bangers to be found + i felt some of the ~instrumentation experimentation~ to be tedious

Last half kind of shits itself 3/5

Enjoyed, lots of drumming

1.15.24

I like the White Stripes but this album wasn’t my favorite of theirs.

Chaotic is first impression. Not a huge White Stripes fan, but not a terrible album.

I enjoyed how a portion of the songs carried on the same melody. Can't unsee all the drummer hate though

Album is based on bible, quite a name then. First song is about child abuse and particularly old russian child pornography organisation. I like the sound of the guitar, plus the start was amazing. Nothing unique yet but still. Second song has a tropical sound and crashes in it, also it's a little progressive when chorus comes, love thaat. Dunno about the meaning. So many weird sounds, like that piano coming and going, guitar crash, and some tropical instrument. Third song's lyric tempo is so fun, the way he says it fast. Love the piano here, drums are low key annoying (nvm, got a little better). It has a literal meaning I suppose. 4th song nice to hear, piano like instrument plus drums do a good job. It's about a relationship, as the 2nd one. Well 5th song delivered Appalachian-style tune which sounds so good. And it's about a woman who is quiet like a ghost and the narrator is scared of her, and thinks public will judge him for loving such person, best song so far. 6th song is actuallyyy denial twist. Basically whole song is upbeat and fun, until at the end the narrator realises he's in disillusion and denial, she doesn't actually love him, and he's been reading signs too wrong, loved this song lyrically. 7th song mentions guitar which is named Rita after Hayworth. smn said he sold his soul to devil and found Rita, but Rita doesn't want him because of his money so leaves him? Confuseddd. Pluss song wasn't a standout. 8th song is apparently about sex and how he isn't good at it? Idk seems too simple. Also guitar isss doing her jobbb, loved that at the end. The whole song was a little meh I think. There is interlude, small one, where the girl sings, love her voice, should be used more. Well 10th song smn said is about fans taking taking and taking stuff from him(not literally), and acting like he owes them smth, even after they get autograph and a photo. So he's struggling about this matter, whether he should be kind to them unconditionally. Again songs have the same vibe but I do like the way he says take. 11th song is not as good as I thought it would be. Idek the meaning of it, guitar is pleasing but not enough, though drums is a bit amusing, but I'm quite bored. Now 12th song is special, and the quick tempo change is fun to listen to, also love how he says red rain. Song is about a girl who's hiding herself, not telling the truth(?), one of the best I've listened to. 13th song is quite slow Elton John vibes with the piano. Song is about a relationship again, genius has no specific meaning(annoying). But it is about loneliness and it's results. There's no more songs(there should be I think) so what I've listened to was very good, but not something I wanted from white stripes, this was better than Floyd, but worse than purple, so 3 stars, but I'd say 2.5.

Listened some. NOt too my taste.

As expected, guitar and piano driven rock. Some great blues-centric ditties. More piano than expected. My Doorbell and Denial Twist are highlights. Some songs sound like jam sessions (Instinct Blues for example) that are just kinda noisy and don't really go anywhere or do anything for me.

I’m a White Stripes fan, but this is not an album I listen to often. Jack White is definitely experimenting with some different sounds on this, and while it does get loud and rock a lot, it just feels a little off.

Indie and blues style. not really my thing but not bad. Knew Blue Orchid and others favs off of this were The Denial Twist and Take, Take, Take.

Nostalgic at most- couple of good hits on there

5ème album. Style différent, plus de chansons au piano. Classique Blue orchid sinon album un peu inégal.

The stripes first major pull away from the charming indie of their early days into a much grander, larger sound. The album is lush and epic, in some ways the antithesis of their early days. Too bad these guys pretty much lose all their intrigue once the intimate, quirky arrangements are taken out, and as such this album borders on shapelessness.

Only half listened. It was not bad.

A mix of folk and punk, rock. Interesting mix. Not sure if I liked it

Good stuff from a great band

6/10 Kinda disappointing. Highlights: Blue Orchid

Although I like Jack White's work, I felt this was a bit weaker than the other White Stripes albums. The songs weren't as catchy to me. Except for "Take, Take, Take" and "I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet)" I found White's voice to be a bit more nasally than he was in some of the other White Stripes stuff. Maybe that's what turned me off to the album, I dunno.

I liked how wacky the songs all sounded. I like weird shit, I will listen to the songs if they play while I shuffle my library. However, I found many of the songs to be repetitive but they were all mostly different from one another so there's that. I liked Blue Orchid, forever for her(is over for me), As ugly as I seem. Instinct Blues was very funny and a bop.

Interesting album. Very... different.

I liked a few of these songs but found a few others to be really annoying. Not on the level of Elephant, which was the album from two days prior.

Never got into the White Stripes aside from maybe the last album, but always semi-appreciated Jack White for the insane auteur he is. The album drags a little, and there are a few too many meandering blues jams on here, but it's overall pretty decent. I can understand why there are two White Stripes albums on here, but there are three Kings of Leon albums, which confounds me to no end. Favorite tracks: "The Denial Twist", "Instinct Blues", "As Ugly As I Seem"

This was truly mid. 6/10

Nice addition of piano, some highlight songs but can’t remember which ones except Blue Orchid

Fuck it. This is my favorite White Stripes album precisely because it doesn't sound like White Blood Cells or Elephant. I just prefer this sound, songs that aren't non-stop guitar-jamming drum-slamming.

I can certainly appreciate the album. Jack White is a talent. He has a plan. He has a persona. A ton of energy and he has been prolific and captured the imagination of his fans everywhere.

Thank goodness for Richie Cunningham's expert speedboat driving skills. Anything less than 'expert-level skills' would've spelled imminent disaster and a quick demise. If you didn't know, Get Behind Me Satan is the album where Arthur Fonzarelli decides to show a little leg, put on a bright-yellow floatation belt and do the impossible... leap over that sharp-toothed caged mammal in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Thankfully Fonzie survived and released Icky Thump aka the nail in the coffin in 2007. Thank you Richie Cunningham, the world is meh for your contribution. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs9M1m-dpgM

Loved this in 2005. Not so into it now.

Pretty interesting album in how many feels it covers. I tend to appreciate albums like this, even though there were a fair few of these tracks that faded to background for me. The talent is very apparent though. Favorite track: Instinct Blues

Enjoyed it a lot! 3.5 Also loved the Blues influence on few songs. Was interesting an nice

Love me some White Stripes, Jack White, dirty rock stuff. Like this album but feel like it's not their best stuff. More blues and melodic than a hard rock album. Still good stuff.

Not my favorite white stripes, but still solid

It's good. Catchy

It’s good. Not usually my vibe but fun!

Never listen to a white stripes album but I've loved the commercially successful tracks I've heard. I was looking forward to to hearing this. It started well but I must admit I got bored. My Doorbell was the standout track for me. For that track alone I'll give the album 3 stars but a lot of the other tracks didn't do much for me.

Have listened to most white stripes albums now in an attempt to get into them, they’re a big part of a scene I love the post Millenium new indie vanguard but it’s just never clicked, and it’s no different here. They’re good, but just a little half baked. They’re like the moody peaches of indie rock, some of it’s cute. Highlights are little ghost and I’m lonely. There’s just not enough meat here.

Stay in front Satan. I want to be able to see you, you sneaky varmant.

four nation army

Een beetje meh, het rockte wel af en toe lekker maar bereikte niet echt een climax ofzo

Great, prefer Elephant though.

Alright

"Get Behind Me Satan" is not one of the better White Stripes albums. While the album did receive a lot of recognition at the time, overall this did not age well. From the sound of things, Jack White gets a little too experimental - dropping his electric guitar for a marimba and acoustic guitar. Meg even sings on this album - which was a little surprising. "Blue Orchid" was, by far, the best song on this album.

Yes, there are some cool bits ("The Nurse") and the craft is evident, but everything feels put-on and there's a trying-too-hard effect, a reaching to cover too much ground, as if a very studied and intentional posture of coolness or excessive cutesyness ("My Doorbell"). it's a fine line between admirable experimentation and annoying novelty – and these songs tread it warily. Yes, there's power but it's sort of repetitive and simplistic, banging and banging until it gets whispery, which it inevitably does. Those loud-quiet contrasts get tired and lose their power – and yes there's more piano here and the marimbas are nice, too – but these are the same things they'd been doing for four albums already. "Lonely Yet" is a semi-cool closer, but pales next to D. Yoakam version from a decade earlier, even if one buys into the ironic roadhouse deconstruction or whatever TF JW thinks he's doing with it."t's overdetermined if not quite fully contrived. Or perhaps it's just a matter of it going on too long, after a few affecting songs early. Honestly, the Stripes never were quite one's thing back in the day, and they remain very much not quite one's thing a couple decades on. Not all together it was dropped from most recent editions.

good but not their best

Good mix of rock, blues, western

Definitely a departure from other White Stripes albums, a lot of piano rather than guitar. Blue Orchid and My Doorbell were good songs off this album. I liked Elephant and White Blood Cells better than this album.

Okay, but probably only listen once

Have I heard this album before? How do I recognize so many of the songs? Not bad, not my thing.

This one didn’t do that much for me. There’s good songs and moments (The piano was unexpected but cool), but the mediocre songs level them out more. It’s kind of boring and not that fun to listen to. It’s just mid, not much else to say.

Probably my least favourite White stripes album, it has its charm but the rocky garage edge is gone, it's offering us Werther's originals when we wanted Mountain Dew Code red.

Conceptualmente es muy interesante, se vuelve muy pesado al final. Se escucha muy lindo igualmente, destaco las guitarras sobre todo. Diria que es un disco solido, pero no creo volver a escucharlo conscientemente

not really my thing

Not my favorite White Stripes album but there are some really good songs here.

A bit of a miss for me compared to their previous two excellent records. It still had some great songs, and I liked the change to more piano and acoustic based songs, but the songwriting just wasn't up to snuff sometimes, and Jack's singing bordered on annoying in places. Also, why is Michael Cera dressed up as Jack White on the cover?

A mix of songs I really liked (Blue Orchid, The Denial Twist, Take Take Take, As Ugly As I Seem, Im Lonely), and then a few I really didn't like. So this one lands right in the middle for me. The overall album wasn't super cohesive.

Solid album. Good 70's style blues rock. First time I ever noticed how much his voice sounds like Robert Plant. A little long, a few tracks could've been left off.

As I get older I really appreciate artists who don't confine themselves to one particular genre and have an obvious love of music. I dont think is my favorite TWS album, but I always appreciate Jack's artistry even if I find him a little much as a person. Also, everyone needs to leave Meg alone. She rules.

all songs sounds the same😬

Interesting sound, not a huge standout for me but nice to listen to.

Honestly never been a fan of The White Stripes but I understand and respect the talent; just not for me. 5/10.

I agree with the other two albums, White Blood Cells and Elephant, being on the list, but if I was to pick a third it would be either their self titled debut or De Stijl rather than this one. I feel like they were losing the plot a little bit in their final two albums, this one and Icky Thump. For me, the album never really gains momentum. I of course say all this as a fan who has listened to all the albums many times, and the criticism comes from a place of love. But even my favorite songs on this album are not among my favorite White Stripes songs.

Not listenable but a few good tunes

The rock stuff is pretty good. Otherwise all of it is a bit to slow.

It's ok. Too long and I don't think more than one White Stripes album needs to be on the 1001 album list.

I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet)

Always thought this album was a bit of a disappointment after the masterpiece of Elephant. Still, not a bad bit of music.

Driving, rambling, jangly. Surprising amount of marimbas

It's alright. Some good guitar but grating at points.

One of white stripes more mediocre albums, blue orchid is good though

Not bad

Enjoyed but not as much as Elephant.

Weirdo's die witte strepen. But I can dig it.

Er staan een paar fijne nummers op deze plaat!

It was okay. I think it’s a little too hard for my taste. 3 out of 5

Ugh Meg

🌓 Great start but gets too slow and boring. Take, take, take saves it a bit.

Satan?

7/10. Pretty good rock album but nothing made me go "WOW!"

Favs: - ▫️Blue Orchid

I like The White Stripes and I think they were a huge part of the 2000's indie sleaze/rock scene, but this album was just meh for me. A couple of bangers but the filler just doesn't do anything for me. Jack White sounds like he's talking about high school problems with the amplified power that the band had after White Blood Cells/Elephant dropped. Idk, this album is ok. I wouldn't put it on except for Blue Orchid

Has lots of different instruments they use, not really consistent but some good songs here and there. Love the vocals though

The White Stripes go acoustic! Favorite songs: as ugly as it seems; Blue Orchid and Little Ghost. The marimba, acoustic guitar are markers. The style is very Jack White, but the acoustic vibe is good Anna welcome change. The range as a musician is insane. Meg is always underrated and her voice on Passive Manipulation was enjoyable.

This album is the perfect musical equivalent of a golf course you tough out the front nine specifically to be able to play the back nine. The album starts out great with "Blue Orchid" but then falls into a disjointed mess for the first half of the album. Meg's "Passive Manipulation" signals a change. The second half of the album flows exceedingly well and ends on one of, arguably, the greatest garage rock songs of the early 2000s.

My first reaction was "too many White Stripes LPs on this list." I gave it a listen - eventually - and there was some decent stuff on here

Some bangers but otherwise nothing jumped out

Prefer the more raw sound of their earlier albums, this has a lot of interesting ideas and use of negative aural space, but it just doesn't totally hit me in an emotional way. That being said, the last two songs are PHENOM. Favorite track: Red Rain, I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet)

FAVO: My Doorbell, As ugly as I seem

Favorieten: Blue Orchid, Doorbell

Alright but has skips

I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet)

you have to admire jack white’s passion but he’s such a perfectionist he squeezed all the life out of this record

Not near as good as Elephant, but a few highlights

Eh it feels like a collection of demos

Another band that’s I’ve heard a lot of songs, but this was the first full album I listened to in its entirety. Dig the simplicity of the production, the seeming spontaneity of the music, and the overall force of the music. Surprisingly tender on a few tracks, especially the closer. Like Ringo, Meg White provides just what the song needs, and plays with heart and soul but isn’t showy or overbearing (except on My Doorbell, but obviously intentional).

Wavy instrumentals for a rock album Really strong start on first 2 songs Doorbell song is a bit weak Overall a bit odd, not what I was expecting Not bad, not great, not something I would have on my playlist

Not bad, but I'm a little surprised this is on the list. I haven't listened to all of their albums, but I've yet to hear one that was better than their debut, which seems like representation enough for a list like this.

Better than I expected

Interesting but still 3*

I liked this White Stripes album much better than White Blood Cells. A lot more unique, experimental, and varied.

3.5 stars

Solid album. Some real high points like “Take, Take, Take,” but also some forgettable moments that I was tempted to skip.

Was definitely a white stripes album

A couple of good songs, one great one in My Doorbell, and a bunch of filler. Forgettable even the moment it ends.

Buen disco de rock suave con guitarras armoniosas y buena voz. Bien compuesto, aunque le falta algo para hacerlo más diferenciador

Liked the popular singles. Denial twist stood out from the song I didn't know

Macht Spaß. Wenig punkig (wie die Vorgänger), aber gut verspielt und zum Kopfnicken.

Very early 2000s sounding. Nostalgic for sure.

My fav songs were all ones that felt like classic White Stripes, like Blue Orchid, or were trying to sound like a specific genre, like Little Ghost being a country song. The choice of instrumentation in a lot of songs is weird, and just feels like Jack White got bored or is intentionally trying to distance himself from what made The White Stripes successful

More folksy than I thought it would be, but fantastic lyrics.

A few songs I really don't like, but most of the album is pretty enjoyable overall.

OK, didn't really stand out to me. Reminds me of how I felt the first time I heard Elephant. Maybe re-visiting this 10+ years later I will have the same "Wow, what was I thinking?" experience.

Not their strongest album by any means. Not sure how this makes it into this list. It’s solid enough but at this point in their career the best was behind them.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would there is a couple of awful songs on this but generally a decent album that I would play again

I think I’ve got album fatigue so it’s hard to rate them. Can’t say I’m a huge fan but the album was alright. 3*

I enjoyed and was happy to leave the album on repeat. Not a go-to band for me but didn’t kick them out of my head.

Fine listen but never really feel like listening to too much of The White Stripes.

Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: I do, very similar sounds throughout out with the looping/bouncy drums compared to their other records Favourite song: Track 1 - Blue Orchid

I was going to give this a 2 but I thought that might be too harsh. The reason is that I love The White Stripes, I think literally all of their other albums are some of the best that 2000s rock has to offer, but this one falls short for me. It feels like they wanted to experiment a bit but they weren't completely sure where exactly they wanted to go with it, so it just kind of meanders throughout the runtime. Surprised that this was selected for the 1001 albums, but hopefully we'll see De Stijl and White Blood Cells too later.

Mostly fun.

not as good as their other albums, but had some bops

Not a fan of that garage rock at all

Not an album I'd come back to, but that's purely personal taste. It's a surprisingly good album, just a tad too theatrical for me to get fully immersed. 3/5 Fav track: as ugly as I seem

Someone must really like the WS, as this is the weakest of the three albums of theirs I’ve heard, and I’m not a fan of them generally. This is ok, entertaining enough. The one that sounds like a quiet song from “White Light/White Heat” was a nice surprise, though it went on too long, like this album. I assume one of their more popular albums is on this list as well, so I’ll put more work in on my nascent theory about them being the Tim Burton of classic rock.

Was about to start rambling about how disappointed I was when I bought this excitedly on the day of release in 2003, then realized this is actually the *next* one in the series of diminishing returns after White Blood Cells. You know the formula, this one has a country flavor on top of the blues/rock backbone. It's fine

Kyllähän tuon kuunteli varsin kivutta läpi. Tuli erään espoolaisen bändin laulaja vähän mieleen tuosta soundista. 2,75*

Ei parasta antia, mut varma kolmonen

Quite a change from their previous album, Elephant, which had the signature song - Seven Nation Army. Liked this one too though!

It's OK

Not as good as elephant and not as strong of an album overall. It starts out strong for the first few songs and then starts to dip and never really recovers. Their sound is good when it includes more upbeat drums. The slower songs don’t show their strengths as much. Good album but not fear. 6.6/10

Was aight, not their best work by far but had some good moments

"Get Behind Me Satan" is the fifth studio album by American rock duo the White Stripes. This album was a change from their guitar-based previous album "Elephant" with more piano and acoustic-based melodies and rhythmic experimentation using instruments like marimbas: less guitar riffs and plays down punk, garage rock and blues to a certain extent. According to lead singer and guitarist Jack White, it has a theme of truth in the songs which is mostly told through relationships. The album was widely acclaimed and reached #3 in both the UK and US. Jack uses a falsetto throughout the opener "Blue Orchid." A fuzzed-up guitar driving the melody. The typical White Stirpes drum beat provided by Meg White. The song is about the devastation of something valuable and some think it's about Jack's break-up with Renee Zellweger. "My Doorbell" is piano soul with a prominent drum beat and actually one of my favorite drumming on any White Stripes' song. He's waiting for death. "Little Ghost" brings the bluegrass with a fast-paced acoustic guitar. Layered vocals. This is unique for them. "The Denial Twist" has hard piano notes. The classic Meg drum beat with a tambourine. I think he's giving advice to someone who's been dumped. "As Ugly as I Seem" also has an acoustic guitar and real nice melody. A slow song. Jack's best vocals on the album. A good deep cut. "Red Rain" alternates between a blues and rockin'-distorted guitar. It's goes soft-loud-soft (always a fan). No, not a Peter Gabriel song. All six White Stripes' albums are worth listening to and this is no different. These songs are slower than the typical White Stripes and I do like the variety of instruments carrying the melodies. I wish they could have flushed out some of the piano and acoustic guitar songs with a band but I guess that would be what Jack did with other bands and solo. There seems to be more there with the melodies he created.

I liked it more than I thought I might, especially the second half of the album

After the insultingly-terrible White Blood Cells I was actively not wanting any more of this band, but this is demonstrably better (which, when the bar is the floor is almost literally impossible to not meet that criteria) - it's rather apparent within a song or two that this is definitely more constructed, a little more full-sounding ... aside: wtf I have never understood the enjoyment of what is generously called stripped-down or raw music but in every single way is just a euphemism for "...ehh...more than half the band didn't show up for recording but we're gonna lay down the track anyways! can you play drums?" Ok anger abated (yes White Blood Cells angered me). There's more experimentation here as well, some harmonies, I like the liberal addition of piano, plus a few interesting (guitar) effects to broaden it a bit. I still don't like all of it - e.g. "Instinct Blues" is more indicative of the sloppy/gross earlier sound. I think by the time the 2nd half comes around I'm like "ok enough already" I suppose this also reenforces one goal of the exercise for me; I had absolutely (ill)formed an opinion about this band based on White Blood Cells and a few singles I loathed, and even if I'm not gonna put this record on I (finally?) get it here. Hell maybe they (like almost every act) simply needed to mature. Just didn't need to release anything before this that sounded like bad demos... Drummer is still an unprofessional shambles though that if anything actually detracts from the songs. Come on. 5/10 3 stars.

Enjoyed this, I really like and respect The White Stripes.

Not in my edition of the book! 2005. 3.5 stars. Perfectly acceptable stripped down millennium rock. Not their best work - see The White Stripes or Elephant for that - but still good. 4 stars if you like their sound, 3 stars if you don't.

He fell off

Glad to get this since it’s a White Stripes I haven’t heard before. Personally I would choose Icky Thump, Elephant, and White Blood Cells before this one. So maybe there’s multiple white stripes on the list? Which is egregious imo. Wish this project was more Blue Orchid than Little Ghost

The only White Stripes album I actively don't like, this has no place on the list.

Always a fun sound but definitely an unnecessary amount of album inclusions for them.

Another white Stripes album, another 3 stars. Solid rock music but not more

Not what I was expecting, a mix of stuff on here. Some nice tracks

3.6 - I like this record and I like Jack White but he's clearly overrepresented on this list. What I like best about this particular album is that he's muted the thrashier and yelpier parts of his voice, choosing to go warmer and more mellow. I like the use of acoustic piano and folky guitar. But he's too often playing the bluesman again, scatting and rapping his blend of down-home lingo. I do enjoy the poppier tracks here ("Doorbell", "The Denial Twist"), as well as some of the downtempo experiments ("Blue Orchid", "The Nurse"). But the rest I find just a little annoying, or forgettable probably because I'm burnt out on Jack White and wish he'd fuck off for a decade.

Honestly, not White Stripes best work. A lot of filler and songs with the same chord progressions.

Best Song: Blue Orchid. Jack White's ability to occasionally construct an absolutely chunky riff rears its head once again. Worst Song: The Nurse. Why play one bad song at once when you could instead play three bad songs at the same time? Overall: A classic White Stripes album in that it's packed full of bite-sized bits of "okay". A couple iconic riffs, a few nifty little ditties, and a lot of forgettable thrashing in between.

I wouldn't say I've followed these guys super closely but I did know there was a point where Jack disappeared up his own arse and Meg fell off the radar. I guess this is that point. Talented guy but dial it back with the weird hillbilly folk nonsense, fella. 3/5.

Track 1 - Blue Orchid Thudding bass drum beat, thick sludgy guitar, crashing cymbals, jacks incredibly unique almost feminine voice contrasts the thickness of the guitar, vocals and guitar share melodies throughout the song, great opener 7.5/10 Track 2 - The Nurse Incredibly unexpected marimba intro, carefree and melodic opening, increasingly out of time guitar and drum clash with marimba rhythm, chaotic cacophony of thundering guitar and drum blasts, palm muted pulsing guitar riff, deep underlying drone of vocals in the instrumental interlude contrasts the light marimba rhythm, random bursts of piano, guitar and drums, really random song 6/10 Track 3 - My Doorbell Playful piano melody, rattley drums, crashing cymbals, megs signature drumming clear as ever, maracas add an extra dimension, jacks vocals sound distanced from time to time, like he’s in a corner, a lot different from the guitar dependency from elephant, gets a bit repetitive, still entertaining 6.5/10 Track 4 - Forever For Her (Is Forever For Me) Jacks signature winey vocals shine through, once again piano reliant, light acoustic guitar, return of the marimba, light maraca shakes, solid chorus, twiddling piano line for chorus that continues through fade out 7/10 Track 5 - Little Ghost Fast paced bouncy country guitar, unlike anything on the album so far, very country based with simple tambourine accompaniment, a little more twang in the vocals, banjo type chords, experimental 7/10 Track 6 - The Denial Twist Swaggering drums and thudding piano chords, changes time sig in chorus, fuzzy dull bass line, draws from classic rock and roll influence 8/10 Track 7 - White Moon Sad reflective piano, simple kick beat with maraca, smart rhyming in the lyrics from jack, picks up more before heading back into the normal verse, shows the vulnerable side of jacks voice, long drawn out resonant piano notes 6.8/10 Track 8 - Instinct Blues Very raw recording style, like early delta blues recordings, swaggering riff with pounding drums, jacks signature boosted vocals, some awesome guitar lines, crashing drums, changes in tone back to the start of the song, simple lyrics, heavily driven octave guitar, classic blues phrasing, passionate vocal and instrumental performance, rumble of feedback present throughout the whole song, big punching end 9/10 Track 9 - Passive Manipulation Short little interlude with Meg on vocals, nothing to see really Interlude/10 Track 10 - Take, Take, Take Acoustic and piano, simple drums with maracas, acoustic and piano shares same melodies off and on, sounds like two slightly different vocals coming through each ear, clever vocal panning to and fro from left and right speaker 7/10 Track 11 - As Ugly As I Seem Plodding acoustic guitar, simple beat on some percussion instrument, nice balance between lead lines and chords on the guitar, instrumental doesn’t have too many changes throughout the song, repetitive again 7/10 Track 12 - Red Rain Echoey slide guitar, interesting bell melody, thudding guitar and drum lines, very roots focused, swaggering drums, bluesy slide, warped vocals, song fades and comes back in strong, song goes full circle, ends with echoey slide and bells 9/10 Track 13 - I’m Lonely (But I Ain’t That Lonely Yet Powerful but melancholy big chords, bluesy piano solo, sounds a bit like a billy joel type song but more drunken saloon diddy, reflective lyrics, jacks vulnerable side to his voice on display, chords and vocals die out but comes back in for a final finish, great closing track 8/10 Final Thoughts: This album is like night and day to their previous album, the meteoric garage rock landmark, Elephant, This album is a lot more experimental than Elephant, using the marimba on tracks like The Nurse and Forever For Her and was strikingly different to the raucous riff-laden Elephant by the fact most of the songs were piano led. This album also sees a change in style for the band, turning to their roots influences in blues and country, whilst still regaining the rawness, dirtiness and simplicity of the production on their previous LP’s, as shown in the swaggering, swampy riffs of Red Rain and in the fast bouncy country rhythms of Little Ghost. The album was well received and received a Grammy for best alternative album in 2006. This album showcased the versatility of Jacks writing and musical talents, whilst also reaffirming megs simple but effective playing style and it’s key place in the creation of that signature white stripes sound. The album also showed that their is space for experimentation in even the most simplistic of musical styles, as well as pushing the boundaries of what could be done in the sonic toybox of garage rock and alternative music as a whole. Final Rating: 7.25/10 Best Song: Instinct Blues or Red Rain Worst Song: As Ugly As I Seem Most Underrated Song: The Denial Twist

Overdone, particularly in the loud-quiet-loud sense. Those tensions put one on edge while listening and so even the cool bits ("The Nurse," say, with the interesting marimba bits) become disconcerting to listen to. The virtue of simplicity is the power it can create, somewhat counterintuitively, but this lot way overplays its hand (see "My Doorbell" also with marimbas), leading to a too-close similarity across songs (see "Doorbell" to "Forever for Her"). One just doesn't see (or hear) this anywhere near as cool as Jack and Meg seem to want one to. This just isn't as surprising or strong as the earlier records.

Not my fave

This album had two really good songs (blue orchid and the denial twist) and the rest of the album was just okay.

I have to admit, I enjoyed the White Stripes previous albums to Get Behind Me Satan. I know some duo artists are suppose to expand their sparse sound by introducing additional instruments, but I prefer the guitar-heavy sound from the pair. No wonder White preferred in a larger band format after the Stripes, so you can't deny a guy for expanding his musical horizons.

Interesante

really? in a vacuum i would give this a respectable if unremarkable and sometimes irritating 3. (i can only be made to hear about jack white's problems with women for so long before i start to resent it.) but because it has been presented to me as one of the most important albums of all time i have to give it a 2. presumably it was removed from the book once the contributor(s) recovered from mid white guy blues-rock fever #previously listened (partial)

Was nice to get this behind me

Did not like it as much as I thought I would.

Not their greatest album, but still a good listen. I start to get bored towards the end

Blue Orchid - firmly eh. The Nurse - I didn’t like it but it caught my interest. My Doorbell - Liked some of the gimmick and the rhythm. Forever for Her (Is Over For Me) - Okay. Little Ghost - Fun!! The Denial Twist - Enjoyable. White Moon - Marginally better than Blue Orchid. Instinct Blues - Okay again. Passive Manipulation - Really could use better delivery. Take, Take, Take - I really like Rita as a name. Besides that, felt like I got something from this one. As Ugly As I Seem - Kinda felt that. Red Rain - Alright. I’m Lonely - Finally peak. At its best when it commits to the blues. Also, beautiful album cover.

Its pretty obvious that this album is meant to be experimental, and thats completely okay! Most of the songs on here are just not for me. Some good songs but as an album? Not my cup of tea Songs I genuinely liked: White Moon, Instinct Blues, Red Rain (this one was half good half meh)

this album makes me think its creators really like led zeppelin and then it makes me think I should listen to led zeppelin, track 1 is a 3.5 but the rest brings it down, I got very bored

It opens on the best song, then I kinda didn't process the rest of the album after that.

Not for me.. I just couldn't really get into it.

Jack White is a talented dude and has not only depth and breadth of knowledge of American music but also the skill to rearrange and reconstitute it to match his vision. This record is no different - White flexes his talents as singer and guitarist across these various tracks, all of which are stamped with his style and personality. Trouble is that, aside from "My Doorbell", the music on this disk (or pretty much any White Stripes record) ain't really my cup of tea.

Pre Listen: The only White Stripes song I know off the top of my head is "Seven Nation Army". That song defined a genre for a while, and also somehow got associated with "gamers" if I recall right. I think it's a decent enough song, a bit overplayed, but fine. Taking those expectations going in. Notable Tracks: The Nurse - What were they even trying to cook here? What a mess, horrible all around. Least favorite song on the album, skipped 3/4ths through. Little Ghost - My favorite on the album. Wasn't expecting a folk sounding song on here, and it felt like coming up for a breath of air while drowning in cringe. White Moon - Another low point. Skipped at 3/4th through as well, just wanted to tell the vocalist to shut up already. Post Listen: This album sucks. Overall the instruments, vocals, lyrics, pacing, theme, style, all of it sucks. It sounds amateurish at best, shitty theatre-kid melodramatic on average, and intentionally piss-poor amateurish at worst. They employ random experimental music techniques here and there like audio chopping, stereo manipulation, and distortions, but none of it works, it's just at random. Credit where credit is due, the variety in styles between songs is noteworthy. The inclusion of a marimba on some songs is unique, even if they didn't pull it off. The sound mixing is very well done. Those three reasons, and how this album isn't entirely unlistenable, saves it from being a 1. I can see emotionally stunted young adults and teenagers adoring this album because they struggle to comprehend feelings of sadness, and believe they're irreparably depressed after breaking up with a partner they've had for less than a month. I'm not looking forward to the 2 other albums from these dweebs on this project. Low 2/5.

This album feels… tired. The rhymes are tired. The playing is tired. Even the rhythm is tired. It’s making me tired. Loved Elephant. Honestly. This is making me… sad. Get behind me tapped out White Stripes. 2 Boolean: false

First track is one I know and it's pretty decent, if a bit on the repetitive side (which is pretty much my impression of The White Stripes based on their big singles anyway). Aaand then the second track started and it immediately became pretentious crap that's unpleasant to listen to. This album definitely deserves _some_ credit for the variety and instrumentation (plus it has piano so yay); there's some interesting choices here that were quite refreshing but it's a shame the music itself isn't better. Really don't like the vocals. They're so grating throughout. Just really not for me, and don't understand how this has received so many high ratings. Far too much of it is just naff. Saved from a 1 by the piano bits.

Rock that didn't excite me at all.

(53/100)

Despite enjoying them when I was younger, I just really don't get this band that much. These songs aren't that good. 2.

A little corny, nothing as electric as Seven Nation Army

This album is kind of a mixed bag for me, many portions and songs like Red Rain are so good, however, songs like take take take are genuinely some of the worst songs ive ever heard. Theres this one portion in take take take where the band had structured the audio to rapidly switch between earbuds and it was genuinely sooo bad and it hurt my ears. 4/10

I'm sorry this is really bad!! I haven't thought about The White Stripes since about 2007 (who has no offence) and I thought that maybe with fresh ears I'd actually be into this but..... it's early 00s indie slop and not good. It's channel 4 core and with no Don't Tell the Bride or Dinner Date for visual stimulation it is not enjoyable at all...

Couldn't get with the different sound or whatever they were going for. I am all for artistic growth and what have you, don't need to have every album sound the same, I get it, but this just wasn't it and not what it wants to be.

i hated this ngl i like to say that i am a person who can listen to almost anything and i stand by that but this is my almost i just want a fan blue orchid wasnt bad but it just wasnt playlist worthy day 2!

무난

Blues rock and garage rock built from marimba-driven grooves, raw percussion, piano, sparse guitar work, and expressive vocals feels like watching a street magician deliberately throw away half his tricks just to prove he can still hold a crowd—eccentric, unpredictable, and more interesting than consistently satisfying. The album abandons many of the duo's established strengths in favor of experimentation and texture. The results are uneven, but rarely boring.

Not good.

I don't like the style

5/10 - hmm i remember this from my late teenage days but it's not really stood the test of time, a couple of known tunes but just kind of ends with no real highlights.

I've never really been a fan of The White Stripes, and this album does nothing to convince me otherwise. It starts off with "Blue Orchid" who fools fans of previous album Elephant into believes that this will be more of the same. It is not, and Jack White's guitar takes a backseat in this album of strange numbers, including the Broadway-esque "My Doorbell" and an almost comedic blues number "The Denial Twist".

Not my type

Какой-то кантри хазбин отель ватафак вообще ну хер знает 2,5 бы поставила, а так два

Before this album most of my knowledge of The White Stripes came from a The Simpsons bit. "Get Behind Me Satan" was fine. I didn't connect to it much in any way. The last track "I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet) was probably the closest I got. It's sentimental in that specific way I'm a sucker for. There is a twang to Jack's singing that I appreciate, but "Passive Manipulation" made me realize I might prefer Meg as lead vocalist. I wish that track was longer. The instrumentation all seems pretty simple (positive). There was a marimba (I think) used in a couple tracks in the first third that gave the vibes of like some sinister beach. "Red Rain" incorporated a xylophone in a really stilted but pleasing way. Jack White is really good at creating new vocal and auditory stims: "I'm thinkinAboutTheDoorbell".

This album was a really weird one for me. Liked the intro track, then my interest drastically faded in the middle of the album. Cool guitars can only take you so far. The highs were high, but the lows were lower. Can't say I'll be revisiting soon. Rating: 5/10 Favorite song: As Ugly As I Seem

Felt gay while listening to this album

Couldn’t do it. I do not like his voice…

Was not a fan of this album, i do like the white stripes, but i feel like they have better ones than this, there were a couple of a good ones on here such as the opener

It's not their best work, in my opinion.

Kinda came and went. Rarely did I stop and think to myself "oh this sounds good", mostly did I stop and think to myself "how many more songs". Not offensively bad, but pretty meh.

Not a huge fan of the songs. Not bad just not my style, the voice and the lyrics didn't convince me. The instrumental was good though

It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t memorable either.

A couple of catchy tunes but otherwise a bit throwaway

empezó bacano pero se puso todo aburrido después

My Doorbell was ok-ish, the rest just droned on with nothing remarkable. My last White Stripes album on this list.

This is #day631 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… time to cross out another band from the list, as this is my third and final record by The White Stripes. I really do think Elephant alone would've been just enough. Instead, you get two more records you supposedly must hear before you die. Well, I don't think so. This isn't a bad album by any means. It's quite experimental, which is fun, but… Not for me. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day632.

meh.. já sabia minha reação antes mesmo de ouvir. pensei que seria pior, nota 2.5

boring but inoffensive

Some very hooky riffs and moments, but I just can't get past the archness of it all. Feels so self-consciously louche, like Johnny Depp in a perfume ad. Also, if ever a band showed why all other bands have bassists, this is it. The songs would have so much more punch if they had some bottom, instead of sounding like they're being played on a gramophone.

not bad but not for me

The singers voice ruins it for me, somehow i can stand dave mustaine but not him lol.

Despite a handful of strong songs, this is one of their weaker albums - the rock swagger overshadowed by more piano-led melodies, and it loses some of their charm and energy as a result

hmm its not good atleast i didnt like it

Beyond Blue Orchid, I was actively waiting for this album to end. Congrats to Jack White for being my first ever 2, and continuing the trend over half a year later Favorite Song: Blue Orchid

I've listened to every White Stripes album multiple times except for this one. I couldn't remember why I always skipped this one on Stripes revisits but now I recall - it's because it's not very good. There are songs I like on here a fair bit but they are almost exclusively the slower tracks like As Ugly As I Seem, I'm Only, or The Nurse. The usual blues rock tracks are fine and all but some of the weakest efforts of their career when compared to what came before & even after on Icky Thump.

Blue Orchid starts this album off with a bang - a fantastic track that smacks you in the face with memorable guitar riffs and iconic vocals. However, the album wanes for me as it goes on, with the rest of the tracks not landing as well. In all honesty I’ve never been the biggest fan of The White Stripes and maybe their style just isn’t for me, but I can’t help but feel the rest of the album lacks something.

4/10 Blue Orchid is a good song, but the rest of the album... meh

badass album name, unfortunately doesn't live up to it. ive listened to a couple songs by these guys and enjoyed them but this album just feels so boring fav song: The Denial Twist

couple of songs that broken through a bit, but mostly just a slow listen.

Dentro de todo es escuchable.

Millennial, raw, and tolerable.

I should like White Stripes but I dont.

Does not having heard a White Stripes album before now make me a bad Michigander? Not sure, but with Jack White being a saint around these parts, it was about time I gave an album a shot. This was fine, I guess. I think I would have preferred to listen to something that was more garage-y like their earlier stuff, because I was not expecting the level of production that this album brought. They do a good job of creating a full sound with just the two of them, just wasn't what I wanted to hear from them. Final note: I am firmly on the side of Meg White being a great drummer. You don't need to be a virtuoso to be impactful and play with feeling, and damn I felt every fucking hit she made on that kit.

Favorite songs: Blue Orchid, The Denial Twist, As Ugly as I Seem I remember enjoying the earlier White Stripes albums when they were released. I didn't enjoy this one.

I've been a casual Jack White fan for a while, but this just didn't click with me.

Not a classic by any means, but there are a few good tracks on here. Always had a soft spot for Blue Orchid

This was a 1 or a 2 but maybe just edged a 2 but it’s not one I’m likely to listen to again

One can only hope there are more White Stripes albums to come, what this one is doing on this list is anyone’s guess…2 stars. Tom.

Such a weird choice for the list. The whole album feels uncomfortable. Like they’ve had an identity crisis and are trying to prove that they’re more than the white stripes. Despite the whites stripes being awesome.

I was 16 when this came out and loved White Stripes. De Stijl, White Blood Cells & Elephant were all 10/10 to me. I taped the first radio play of Blue Orchid off the Zane Lowe show and must have listened back to it a hundred times before the album came out. It might be one of their best songs ever. I was psyched. Then I bought the album and found out 10 of the 13 songs here are meh. 2 stars because the good songs are very good.

Oh it's the band who sings seven nations army ... nevermind

Bizzare album - 2.5. White Stipes most well know songs are all punky but most of this album was not that. Ive always liked Blue Orchid. Also quite liked Instinct Blues and Red Rain. The rest not so much. This is another 2.5 but I think I'll give it a 3 cuz id much rather re-listen to this than that Bowie album.

the nurse is diabolical. So bad. it sounds like if 'silence occasionally interrupted by metal clanging pipes' was 'pretty mid but cutesy primary school song occasionally interrupted by a guitar with murderous intent' im genuinely unsure how they have managed to gaslight themselves into thinking this was something the world needed to hear. this song makes the album Irredeemable but I will say some nice things red rain is the right around of weird for me. its probs my fave. the other less experimental songs are also fine or decent, sounds like a disorganised mika sometimes which isn't terrible. it did go a bit yee haw ? at times which wasn't my favourite but wasn't terrible

a very experimental album, and a real mixed bag... ★★★☆☆ BLUE ORCHID - good, annoying vocals ☆☆☆☆☆ THE NURSE - abhorrent (one of the worst songs I've ever heard) ★★★☆☆ MY DOORBELL - alright, reminds me of MIKA ★☆☆☆☆ FOREVER FOR HER - didn't enjoy ☆☆☆☆☆ LITTLE GHOST - really hated this, country is not for me ★★★★★ THE DENIAL TWIST - my favourite, I love this sound ★☆☆☆☆ WHITE MOON - annoying ★★★★☆ INSTICT BLUES - pretty good too ★☆☆☆☆ PASSIVE MANIPULATION - short and bad ★★★★☆ TAKE, TAKE, TAKE - I liked this a lot! ★★★☆☆ AS UGLY AS I SEEM - I don't enjoy ballads like this much, but it wasn't bad ★★★☆☆ RED RAIN - I like the heavier sound, but still found the song a bit annoying ★★☆☆☆ I'M LONELY - yeah man whatever AVERAGE = 2.31 at least nobody can call this album samey. for the most part I found it annoying

Me saca un poco de mi zona de confort tbh, no estuvo taaan mal, pero si fueron pocas las canciones q agregué a la playlist 🫢

This is my first time listening to alternative rock, so I was not used to it at the start. It got better towards the middle when it had more of a melodic line. The whole album is very experimental and slightly incohesive, sometimes resembling random sounds bashed together. 2/5. Favourite song: The Denial Twist

Overhyped

J’aime beaucoup certains sons et j’adore the White Stripes mais celui ci ne m’a pas marqué

What the fuck. The album starts super strong with blue orchid and then it just falls to absolute trash. Maybe I just don't get the vision but this was absolutely crazy. And not in a good way. Every single aspect of the tracks felt wrong. Anyways I can't give it a one start because the first few songs were okay but that was a hard listen. Rating : 3.2 Favorite track : Blue Orchid

no es mi tipo de música pero mencion especial a "the denial twist" que me encantó

Not for me but cool

no es para mí este álbum jijis

Sometimes may be good, sometimes may be shit

Just was not feeling it at all, was just waiting for it to be over by the end

248/1089 i’m sorry but at some point i really checked out of this one and all the songs started to sound the same to me. It’s not necessarily that i think they’re “bad” it just couldn’t hold my interest at all Blue Orchid was the clear standout 30/100

Help. They have one good song and it’s not in this album.

Not my favorite White Stripes album. Favorite song: Blue Orchid

Top ugly

I’ve wanted to listen to more from them! They’re really talented. Fav song is ‘The Denial Twist’.

The White Stripes were no strangers to experimentation at this point, as their previous two albums contained a fair number of detours. This one pushes even further beyond garage rock, but it mostly just proves they're better as a garage rock band. There is some good stuff here: "Little Ghost" is a fun folk romp and "Take, Take, Take" adds new elements to their raw rock sound. But a lot of the rest of the songs fall flat or are underwritten. "The Nurse" just doesn't work, the piano songs all kind of blur together, and "Instinct Blues" sounds goofy despite its dirty blues. That goofiness also does the album in, as many of the songs here attempt a quirky or cutesy feel, to mixed results. Kudos to the band for not writing another "Seven Nation Army," but this one just doesn't come together cohesively.

I liked Little Ghost - overall not really my cuppa.

Haven't we already had a White Stripes album? I could just about see how they might make the list once but twice makes me feel there's a backhander somewhere. It's fine just... ordinary.

Ikke så stor fan nå heller

Some bangers for sure, bags a lot in the middle & end. Not their best, not my favorite.

Did not like this one as much
