Reviews (page 2 of 2)

I wanted to like You Are The Morning than I did. I started listening already knowing the artist was trans--we are blessed with another trans artist--and slowly I realized her indie rock stylings don't do much for me. But I can recognize good music! And gosh, the album is truly beautiful. Jasmine.4.t did a fabulous job creating an enveloping atmosphere in her debut album. The lyrics are stunning. I was really impressed.

Happy to see more trans representation on this project! One thing that immediately resonated with me about jasmine.4.t were her harmonies. She's doing fairly standard indie-type harmonies on her songs, but there's something about her harmonies that scratch a certain itch; they just sound nice and give her music a vulnerability. I was also pleased with the diversity on this album; indie albums can often grow stale quickly because they are just one-note throughout, but jasmine.4.t dabbles in a lot of indie sounds on this debut album, and does them well, I might add. I was even surprised to hear some country sounds amongst all the variety. Two of my favorite songs were book-ends (ish) to the entire album: "Skin on Skin", which was technically track 2, and the closing track, "Woman". There is truly some beautiful music on this album, and it was a pleasure to listen to it. This album was probably about a 3.5 for me, and I'm feeling disappointed that it doesn't even hold a 3 average overall, so I'm going to go ahead and bump this to a 4.

This just isn’t great. The voice, the music, the lyrics, all of it. It’s at the level of the passable singer with a guitar you would see in your local on a week night and it shouldn’t be on here

3.4 At first I wasn't really liking it but it definitely grew with subsequent listens. My main gripe is the vocal style that appears on numerous tracks - Highfield, title track, Best Friends House etc. It works really well for the one-off track, eg the closer, but gets grating after a while. Guy Fawkes and Elephant are great tracks. A couple of other good ones, but a fair few skipable to offset all that. I feel like the style isn't particularly new, it's quite Sufjan Stevens/Bon Iver like in places, and I'm sure there's a thousand others as I'm not familiar with the genre. I can see why it is included, but probably wouldn't make my list.

Thousand of albums that sound like this. I don't get the inclusion.

Pop interpretado por género femenino sin mucha pegada. Sensación de temas muy recurrentes. Nada nuevo. Un poco decepcionante.

Favorite Track: Elephant

I guess this is as good an avatar for dreary post-Wilco folkish rockish stuff as anything.

Rolig. Kjedelig.

Shockingly beautiful. Reverent to british and american rock without feeling at all derivative. I’m very glad to have listened.

Starts out brilliantly but loses a a bit of steam in the second half

Trying quite hard to convince that it's interesting and unusual but actually it's quite derivative and dull. The not lo-fi, overworked production sucks and is a cautionary example in what happens if you spend 5 years polishing material that was never gold to begin with.

I couldn't help but feel like jasmine.4.t is really trying to copy Phoebe Bridgers, who conveniently produced and backed the whole thing, instead of doing her own thing. While there are some nice, vulnerable folk moments, all the breathy indie-rock stuff just makes me wonder why they didn't just add the boygenius record to the list instead.

This album is mostly a very relaxed affair, but both the melodies and their vocal delivery were quite exhausting after 9 or so tracks. 2.5/5

Nope, why is this on this list?

3.9 - Pretty, chamber poppy songwriting by a trans artist steeped in sounds from Perfume Genius, Elliot Smith, Nick Drake and others. Check out the jagged string interlude on “Highfield.”

October 25, 2026 HL: title track, "Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation", "Woman" Prefaced this with the Boygenius E.P., which I somehow missed in all the publicity for their record, The Record (2023). Earlier this year, I listened to Lucy Dacus's Historian (2018) and Phoebe Bridgers's Lost Weekend (2026) as well, so I am primed for this new entry in the Boygeniusverse. The book entry says that Dacus discovered Jasmine's demos, so we have her to thank for this album being released- at least in this form, recorded in the States, with Dacus/Bridgers/Baker producing and performing on the album. I think the best moments are when the backing vocals rise from the ether, especially with the choir in the closing track. Making potentially stark, painful lyrics somehow uplifting; Saying "You are not alone" without saying it. jasmine.4.t follows the Phoebe Bridgers via Elliott Smith ethos of reedy vocals, which suits some of her songs (the delicate "New Shoes" and "Best Friend's House") but not others. I enjoy Cruikshank more as a guitarist, alternating between rock & folky fingerstyle, then as a singer, at least based on this album. Elliott improved as a singer throughout his career, did he not? "I Can't Believe I Did This Without You", found on the deluxe edition, already shows a more confident vocal performance than we get for much of the standard album. As the user list reminds me time, and time, and time again, there's so much more indie/folk/Americana being released these days than I have the stomach for. I guess all I can do is say "Good job!" and move on

Seems to me to be a indie folk album with atmospheric and introspective focuses. The colours on the album cover are beautiful, and I feel if the songs had a look to them, they'd look like this album cover (sometimes I can process audio as visuals in my head.) Just simply so colourful For most songs I felt they weren't fully compelling - even though I liked the lyrics overall - enough to me, so I think 3 stars will have to do and is the most faithful to my rating system. Highlight Song/s: "Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation" and "Elephant"

25/10/2026 I do not agree that this should be on here. It was released too recently to have any longevity. This is definitely just a tick box exercise I would say. Spotify listeners: 20.3k

Decent listen.

Adding this album to the book after just one year seems premature. It sounds good, but I'm not convinced it'll have staying power. The music isn't distinctive enough to stand out in the crowded indie-folk scene, but maybe the persona will attract a cult following.

This is fine, but why on earth would you include this and not something by Phoebe Bridgers or Lucy Dacus or Julien Baker??? Seriously, given that jasmine's claim to fame seems to be association with the boygenius members, it is just bewildering to not have Punisher on the list, but this instead.

I am unable to separate what the music could be versus it alongside the painful voice. It sounds dragging and it’s monotone. I gained nothing from listening to this and I would not like to hear it again.

Yet another inexplicable addition to the book. With all respect, has this really reached any cultural or musical relevance? I don't like her voice much, which might be understating things here; too-closely approaching the unlistenable Anohni but thankfully (mostly) without that fluttery warbling. Since that's clearly the focal point of the recordings I don't have much of a shot here. I dig the guitar playing tho and the actual music isn't bad at all but I'm distracted and taken out of the moment by the vocals. Would have been a fine if unmemorable instrumental album but that I'd have felt like I had heard a thousand times already. I don't understand nearly every new addition to the new edition. I don't get this, and I'm tired. 3/10 2 stars IMO: Belonged in the book? No.

Indie but boring. I'll forget it by the time I hit submit. To think this is mandatory is a wild take

I enjoy an indie sound and a unique voice at times, but that doesn't mean I would consider it required listening. The album itself doesn't even have a wikipedia entry. They have some decent song construction. The vocals seem a little unanchored at times. It was a nice listen. Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation had a cool classic vibe. There is potential, but they don't need to be on a list like this right now.

I generally preferred the more upbeat songs on this; Guy Fawkes Tesco Discussion was a highlight. The ballads work less well for me.

My word You Are The Morning is boring. Mumbly indie folk is not my jam, 2/5 as it's not offensively bad, I just don't get why it's a thing.

It’s pretty, this album, but the politics behind it outshine the music, methinks.

This wasn't bad and yet wasn't all that interesting, either.

This sounded like something someone recorded in their garage with friends.

mellow, melancholic, and a little slow for my taste. Not my thing, but it definitely grows on you.

This was fine but I don't really see it in "must hear" territory. There is an awful lot of folk and country adjacent, soft alt-rock with this sound.

It's ok at first but it goes on far too long and ultimately it becomes very very boring.

Id never heard of this artist but they were surprisingly good! Relaxing music, good vocals, and good song composition.

Soothing indie, but nothing groundbreaking.

Chill pop à la Sufjan Stevens avec des passages plus dynamiques, je m'attendais pas à ça et c'était cool !

Je m'attendais pas à un album aussi recent, belle découverte !

This is just alright - not really my cup o tea. I do really enjoy Guy Fawkes Tesco Disassociation though. Real fun song. Elephant was also pretty cool. The rest was nice but just dull to me. High 2.

Absolutely fine and in some places quite good and catchy but the vocals are so weak and nasal that it means that it never really develops into anything memorable A kind 3

Breathy modern indie just does not resonate with me. There was one song where they actually sang and the track had some energy and the rest is like if someone tranquilized Coldplay

Ahhh just lovely little love songs. I love Jasmine’s voice and the simplicity of these arrangements

A genuinely interesting album that subverted my expectations in a couple places. I'm not big into the whole "soft indie folk" thing as a genre, so the more rock driven songs like Elephant were among my favorites. Pretty cool stuff though.

Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation // 2.5/5

Thankfully short, this record is made well but is just another quirky indie band doing their best impression of early 2000s quirky indie bands. It's all the same.

This is a good 3.5 Songs are a bit mellow but enough variety for it not to get boring. Good lyrics, personal subject matter but not diary entry writing.

It was ok. Nothing memorable about it.

why is this on here? It came out last year from some no name artist. It's not good.

I thought this was a beautiful album. Jasmine has such a lovely, expressive voice, and the music has a real warmth and intimacy to it. I particularly enjoyed how the vocals and instrumentation worked together to create such an emotional atmosphere. I’m not sure it’s an album I’ll return to often, but I’m glad I gave it a listen.

Really, really liked this. Not sure of their gender (and it doesn't matter), but it reminded me of Anthony and the Johnsons, but it feels celebratory and positive where Anthony was downcast and an outsider. It's tender and light and effortlessly beautiful.

A beautiful and moving album, I was struck by how the melancholy mood was punctuated by spikes of optimism and joy.

Knew nothing about the artist prior to my first listen and it was worthy of a second listen straight after. Given some of the dross on here, some well crafted , heartfelt songs was a treat.

Very clearly doesn't belong on the list. Dimery's clearly just making sure he pleases the two people who care about the list containing recent albums, while pissing off everybody else. Including me. Not to mention this is a pretty crap choice, judging by Spotify streaming numbers. We begin with Kitchen, a muddled little ditty with a weak, quavery alto vocal accompanied by backing vocals and acoustic guitar. It's... fine, I guess. But I'll throw fists if we don't get some kind of serious punchiness after such a mellow opener. Skin On Skin is definitely better in this regard, and also passes as a generally stronger composition overall. The drumming adds a ton of textural interest and contributes greatly to the song getting more and more intense over time. Highfield returns to the relative simplicity of Kitchen but with a markedly drearier feel. Those slidy strings definitely contribute to the drear. Depressing lyrics, too. Then we get another percussive track – if you could call it that – in Breaking In Reverse. I have to stress that all these songs so far are "fine but not great", including the latter track, which feels like a lightweight ultra-soft-rock build-up that never really pays off. You Are The Morning sounds like a much less interesting A Pillow Of Winds (Pink Floyd). And because I love Pink Floyd's track so much, a failure to reach the same heights is particularly disappointing. Best Friend's House is too childish and simplistic to really appeal to me. The high guitar (ukulele?) in the back works against the song. Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation is a great track title, and accordingly, the song itself is probably the strongest so far. Great vocal harmonies and a strong, optimistic, mid-tempo feel. I have mixed feelings on Tall Girl; it ultimately fails, I reckon, because the singing is just not good, and the melody is a bit all over the place. In New Shoes: "You is you, I is I, and the interface is the interface / Let's make a family / With new priorities / I need new shoes". (What?) A very pretty song, though, with some cool textural building in the latter half. Roan is a solid, soft, ultra-expressive ballad; I do wonder if taking a 6-hour break between listening sessions allowed me to enjoy it more. Elephant is just plain worse, though it doesn't quite verge into "unpleasant" territory. A bland, forgettable, but still pretty-sounding little track with a music video to give it a little more traction with the visual learners. We get a Transition (not great) into Woman (pretty good). Maybe the most compelling vocals so far, and they're tossed right at the end alongside a passable instrumental. I'm on the fence, but the lyrics are pretty inspiring, so it gets a passing grade. A high 2 stars overall. 2/5 Key tracks: Skin On Skin, Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation, Roan

Meh.. This sounded like some hobby project recorded in ones bedroom. The singing isn't good. The music is simple. And for 'Elephant', I feel like I've heard this melody before (can't really pinpoint where from)

Mellow new wave hipster folk. Very new release to be on the list and one that may need re-evaluated in a few years. I liked the tracks 'Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissassociation' and ' Elephant' but the rest was forgettable enough.

Wow. So good! But for this project, I surely wouldn’t have heard this. Can something be delightfully twee?

Music wise not mine but here politics are right.

While the album should be "fine", the country elements are (naturally) like death throes. Nobody needs to be subjected to that.

Bland and completely unremarkable.

Nice. Unusual and nice.

Pleasant, unremarkable. An example of why adding extremely recent albums to the book isn't useful. There's been no time to weigh the cultural impact of something that otherwise isn't breaking any new ground musically.

It took a few listens to unveil its charms. At first i thought this was unremarkable modern indie folk that has been done 1000 times and better by artists like Bon Iver. After a while the quality of the songwriting started to shine through, the delicacy of the lyrics came out and i began to recognise some value. I still think the voice is week and there is nothing to merit its inclusion in this list but it was not bad

I could get into this genre but not this representation of it.

Mellow and woozy introspective indie folk that floats along in a very pretty atmospheric acoustic haze for the most part, but kicks into a more noisy overdriven rock mode once in a while. Warbly falsetto vocals, fragile and expressive. Like so much music in 2025, this seems to be a way of creating oases of peace and gentleness, withdrawing from the world by making your own.

It was alright. Fair play for giving a smaller artist a spotlight.

Favourite songs: Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation, Breaking in Reverse, Elephant, Kitchen Least favourite songs: Best Friend's House 3/5

I enjoyed it, but not sure it really hits the "album you need to listen to" criteria

Really good

I thoroughly enjoyed this album but I'll probably never listen to it again, not because it isn't good, it's just not the jam I'm putting on in my outside the 1001 album listening sphere. The first song is fantastic and from what I'm told, I should also check out Boygenius. Extra stars to bring up the average. It's way better than the 1 and 2 stars reviews would have you believe. But it's also on the chopping block for the next book revision. Dig it.

Very moving.

Pleasant and interesting. Hadn't heard this before.

not sure if this is something someone *must* hear before they die, to be honest. decent album, but not something that needs to be heralded as much as it is here. 6/10 FAVOURITE SONGS: SKIN ON SKIN, HIGHFIELD

Elliott Smith as a girl. They should have produced the album to sound like the live performances because the band sounds great on their KEXP session.

Sweet indie pop, but energy dropped a bit too low at points

My kinda indie pop

nice and pleasant indie folk album. super cool to get at least one trans artist on the list. that being said, it does beg the question, since this is produced by boygenius, why is there no boygenius stuff on the list? kind of crazy. anyways, this one is pretty cozy. it gets a little more rock-y at points. 'breaking in reverse' in particularly feels like a modern indie folk song meets crosby, stills, nash and young. neat stuff

A softly spoken 4/5

Certainly glad to see something a bit more 'out there' but it's just too early to tell. I can't say I agree with the process of updating the list.

Pretty good! I'll need to come back to it but on first listen it's a really solid album. 7/10

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: Breaking in reverse, Elephant

This album didn’t speak to me. I didn’t particularly like the vocal styling, and the lyrics didn’t grab me and shake me. But I’m glad this artist and album exists for those that it does speak to.

A good indie band. Definitely vibes of late ‘00s indie here and now I feel old.

I’ve never heard of jasmine.4.t before, but I tend to enjoy indie rock, so I’m curious to check this album out. It seems like quite a few of these new additions haven’t really landed with a lot of folks, myself included, so I’m hoping that this album will break the curse! Well, sorry Jasmine, but this album was pretty lackluster in my opinion. There wasn’t anything particularly bad about this album, but it really lacked anything memorable or unique. I try to judge these albums on their own merits, but man, when the best song on the album has the members of Boygenius on it, I can’t help but wonder if a Boygenius or Lucy Dacus album should have made the list instead. It’s not the same genre, but hell, Orville Peck’s Bronco would be a far better contender than this album. The songs here are well written, and musically it’s fine, but this album’s biggest crime is being bland. The representation for a trans woman is cool, but the product itself is just not that great in my opinion.

Enjoyed but another example of I am not sure it will have the staying power to remain on the list.

This is fine. Pleasant. But the selection is a bit odd, it seems performative if anything - I never even heard of this last year, and its remarkably standard singer-songwriter music, yet it is one of the few (only?) representations from 2025 on the list so far. 3/5

The reason this was chosen in the place of other forwardly trans artists is because she is english, this is known. The music is fine!

I wanted to like this more than I did, it’s beautiful sounding but I didn’t feel a real connection to it unfortunately.

This was pretty pleasant enjoyable pop.

This was a nice little album - it definitely sounds like it was released by Phoebe Bridgers record label, but I found the songs memorable and enjoyable throughout. I can see myself revisiting.

solid indie folk. the more intimate pieces work better (where I'm getting hints of Elliott Smith). the more straight-ahead indie rock is less impressive to my ears, at times countering the personal nature of the songs (like I said, hints of Elliott Smith).

not my jam as much as other albums recently added.

Decent sound, though I'm surprised it's on the list. I expect recent noteworthy albums to have LOTS of listens on spotify, and by that measure this one is weak (only one track with more than 1M plays). The voice and style occasionally remind me of Elliott Smith, especially on the intro track Kitchen which is probably my favorite.

I appreciate that this list took a break from the unending parade of British men to include a trans/queer voice, but not 100% convinced this needs to be on the list beyond that. Almost bumped it up to a 4 to counterbalance all the reviews by people complaining that the vocals are nasal, who probably immediately turned around to award Dylan his eighth 5 star rating.

I wish I liked this more, but being immediately followed by Phoebe Bridgers in my playlist did this no favors.

Raikas ja miellyttävä indie-levy. 4/5

2 o 3. 3

This wasn't as bad as other commenters argue. Not really top list material.

It's a lovely low-key album with country vibes. Not my thing, but I did appreciate the 3 listens. 3/5.

Some nice tunes I enjoyed this & will listen again

Indie rock, indie folk. Ni fu ni fa.

Soothing

Blind album and artist. Im not really sure what i am listening to and why this as added to this list... 2.

You Are the Morning is a standout debut that blends intimate indie folk, raw fingerpicked guitar, and cathartic punk bombast. Produced alongside the members of boygenius, the record feels both deeply personal and magnificently expansive, balancing subtle storytelling with powerful emotional payoffs.

Good, but not massively interesting. I think that I listened to this last year when it came out, but the fact that I'm not certain means it never made that big an impact, I guess.

Indie rock, indie folk. Ni fu ni fa.

Well, in a lesson that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. I looked at the cover of this album and thought oh this looks a bit dry and it started with a couple of bars of folky picking and I thought oh no, it's going to be a boring hour. Then within about 5 minutes of it starting it got interesting and deep and the voice is so interesting sitting in that slightly Nina Simone range and touching on some really interesting stuff and it's funny as well at points. So I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality and the sense of fun and the deep emotionality of this album that I have been proven wrong and pleasantly surprised.

Pretty fun and enjoyable album! Not sure what to expect but enjoyed the restrained simplicity of these bedroom pop songs.

Not for me, thanks. Surprise Phoebe Bridgers.

This reminded me a lot of nick Drake, an artist where every album on this list I really got annoyed listening to it. Jasmine has the same whispery high nasally vocals. To top things off the instrumentation was very sparce. Just to get a different understanding, one of the last songs I listened to it as a music video and to my surprise the mixing in the video was a lot better than on the album.... I don't want to listen to this album ever again

Reminds me of the ANOHNI album in here...probably mostly included for its message, but musically just not at all interesting to me. At least her voice is a lot more listenable on this one though

A new album on the list. Much like Sisyphus' plight, the boulder keeps rolling to the bottom of this uncrestable hill. Albums from 2025 being added when I started this in 2024 is a deeply troubling prospect. I am being slugged from every angle by U2's latest religious output, Bruce Springsteen car commercial-core and 64 David Bowie live albums. I think I'm on the one where the author of this book tries desperately to reattach David's jaw during the reanimated Starman's encore. As much as I love hating stuff, this record is excellent. It fits all the sad little boy/girl/person energy that I lap up like a sick bloodhound, and it manages to not be British electronica which I think is its greatest achievement. Pretty folk/pop songs with an interesting vocal slant means I'm pretty happy. Heap on the fact that this album has queer themes?? This is what Ice Cube truly envisioned upon that day where he weirdly counted stats at the pickup basketball game. Today is indeed, a good day. If it wasn't for my Scottish roots, I'd be saying God Save THIS Queen. Oh what the hell. Just this once. 4 HIGHLIGHTS: Does your PC save .4.t files? I tried, but my computer blew up.

A big fan of boygenius - Phoebe, Lucy, and Julien. Wonderful to see them supporting such an interesting artist. First listen I wasn't too sure, but things started to fall into place on the second listen. Standouts: Skin On Skin, Breaking In Reverse, Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation.

Meh. I’m not loving her voice. I predict pelé will love every track or dislike every track- there’s not alot of variety of mood or style on this one.

Very, very annoying vocal delivery that never stopped giving me a feeling of nails being scraped on a blackboard. Two stars.

This is a surprising addition to the list. It has a vaguely Phoebe Bridgers vibe, which isn't surprising given her involvement with the album. There's also a wide variety of styles and themes, including elements of depressing, melancholy, optimism and joy. The themes reflect the singer's life as she came out, suffered abuse, alienation from her family, homelessness, rediscovery of herself and new love. The music really grew on me a lot as well, with some excellent tracks like "Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation" and "Tall Girl". This was a pretty interesting album that would be worth revisiting.

Not much of an indie fan.

I hadn't read the bit about Boygenius when my listen reached Skin on Skin and boy you can really tell. I hope that doesn't mean they're getting tropey, I have concerns after the latest Phoebe album, but there's still time for me to get into it. Breaking in Reverse, and Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation again especially have this vibe from the opening chords so imagine my lack of surprise in the latter when Phoebe herself pipes up. Considering the opportunity was passed up to include Punisher, Better Oblivion Community Center, anything by Lucy Dacus etc or even the not as good but still a phenomenon The Record, and instead including an album with them all over it but not in their name, is certainly a choice. I have some vague name recognition for the artist but on seeing she lives in my city now that makes sense, presumably seen on bills and gig listings about the place. This record has the vibes of something I might get into on repeated listens, but for the most part I'm just not quite hooked enough. There is definitely a certain charm about it which grows as I listen. The short and delightful My Best Friend's House is a perfect example of this. Tall Girl and New Shoes were also decent. Seems to have lyrical depth. Without wanting to reductively group things together I do feel musically this at times strays a bit close to Anohni and the Johnson's type stuff, which I (in general) appreciate but never quite loved, and it has to be said Jasmine's voice doesn't have the same power. The piano ballad sections in this set of songs are genuinely sweet and vulnerable, but do tend to highlight this. That said, and with my reservations of being overly BoyGeniused to the exclusion of the artist's own musical voice, this is a pretty interesting record which is at its best when plowing it's own furrow. Elephant another late album track forcing me to gradually recognise that I may actually really like this. This record ends strong, both metaphorically in terms of the journey and in terms of quality. At the moment it's a mid to high 3, we'll see if I get time tomorrow to give it another go. ... So, I did. I also went and listened to some of the 2019, pre-transition EP Worn Through, which features a decent (realises I somehow haven't yet mentioned) Elliot Smithy song Loserville, and a sparsely recorded, almost demo quality original version of Shoes - recorded of course with their male voice, and the emotional heft hits even harder. I'm not surprised she couldn't record the album version on the other side of this without bawling. And this album gets a 4 from me.

When the list of the new albums that were being added came out, this was, to me, the biggest wtf moment. I've met Jasmine a handful of times and, I think, the only person on the OG and user list I've spoken to in person. In honour of the album I'm wearing my tour t-shirt from her tour last year. I love this album but it's definitely something that isn't going to appeal to everyone. It's produced by boygenius (which why are none of them on the list?) which is how I discovered her. I applaud Dimery here for at least trying to get music that is less well known out there, but it's certainly an obscure choice. My personal rating: 5/5 My rating relative to the list: 5/5 Should this have been included on the original list? No. It's great people are being introduced to her music but there is way better stuff out there that you should listen to first that I would recommend before this.

Less good than yesterday

Decent, but probably not something I'll listen to again. A bit Bon Iver-ish. 3 stars.

Solid indie singer-songwriter outing with some meat on its bones, the boygenius connection/influence is strongly felt but this still stands as its own outing. Not sure this is a must-listen before you die, but it’s at least a strong and interesting LP featuring a new artist unlike some of the other new additions

Catchy and easy to listen to which are good qualities. Although the singing gets a bit whiney for me at times which definitely makes me less likely to come back to more than a few of the songs.

Half of these songs sound like they’re being sung by Winnie The Pooh. Bit of a boring album

Sacré Robert pis ses albums poches

Listening to this I had no idea it was about the artist's experiences as a trans person. I also was unaware of Phoebe Bridger's involvement. But now I know, I can hear it. In both cases. Not sure how I missed the first, TBH. My initial thoughts was it's a pleasant indie folk / indie rock album with a varied pallet and nice melodies. It is still that, but discovering the context makes it a lot more interesting and possibly worth returning to. Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation Date listened: 06/11/26

Not a bad album but not what I would have picked from recent years. It seems like Dimery really leaned into trying to select British music in this most recent iteration. 6/10

Same old, same old (even in 2025)

I dont hear it. I mean I'm not getting past what sounds like a whole lot of other stuff, for some reason Elliot Smith popped into my head. This sounds so familiar. There's some interesting guitar playing, a different tuning perhaps, drop D? But the songs are, as always, pretty formulaic, standard plod along 21st century stuff. I would really love to be surprised just once you know by these 21st century artists, hear something that makes me go wow what was that?

Ok I suppose. A few interesting songs but nothing that blew me away. 2.5/5

Love Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation

I was surprised at some of the albums that were added to the list in the new edition (and some that were taken out to make way for them) but credit where it’s due, I really liked this.

The second half of this is stronger than the first. I probably liked this more than the other reviewers, but will readily admit I would prefer a boygenius/Phoebe Bridgers/Lucy Davis record instead.

Highlight: Skin on Skin. In a nutshell: “the glow up” “Okay, I just played your demos for Phoebe [Bridgers] in the car. She’s on the phone to her manager, trying to work out how she can sign you." Lucy Dacus to Jasmine.4.t via text message (date unknown) It began in 2018. Jasmine accepted the invitation to tour with future Grammy winner Lucy Dacus (boygenius) on the European leg of her Historian tour. After a few years break, Jasmine took a chance and submitted demos to Saddest Factory Records (owned by boygenius member Phoebe Bridgers) instead of self-releasing new music. She received a text message from Lucy. It changed her life. boygenius promptly produced a single (Skin On Skin) and months later Jasmine.4.t. released her debut LP. It’s going to take a few minutes for your ears to adjust to Jasmine’s voice. It’s lighter than ANOHNI’s. Reminds me of Julia Jacklin and early Dacus in a way. Stick with it. There are some transcendent lyrics here. Overall: 4/10

Nja, det här var väl inte särskilt bra. Rena rama sömnpillret faktiskt. Nä, den här plattan borde inte vara med på listan.

This was so much better than I was expected. Very grounded, just very pretty songs. Really enjoyed this.

As a night owl, I hate mornings. This one made me hate them even more.

Too new and too boring to be list worthy

Just when I was getting closer to the end (was close to 100 albums remaining) the goalpost moves further... Also, it's wild to start seeing albums on here that were literally released during the time I've been actively participating in this project. As for the album here, I know nothing about this artist or their music. It seems that she is a trans woman in the indie rock/folk sphere, so props for more LGBTQIA+ rep on this list I guess. A pretty unique and almost sleepy/nasally voice, befitting the somewhat subdued sound heard throughout. The energy raises at other points too, though. There were only like one or two memorable tracks when it was all said and done, however. Sounded mostly safe and repetitive when looking past the highlights.

Lyder fint nok men essentielt?? Jeg hørte albums der lød meget som denne i 2016

Endnu en stor 2er. Overhovedet ikke en dårlig plade, men virker som et bizart valg til en liste som den her.

Not sure about this one.. Feels like maybe Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus or Julien Baker should've taken this spot instead of someone they signed to their label? The music is fine, fluid and by the name on the tracks it's filled with emotion, but I personally don't like their voice.

2.3 2x sounds like a man and I'm not too sure about the lyrics but some catchy

Hmm. A soft indie rock with folky bits. Not a huge fan. It's too dreamy, chamber. Not enough drive. Also the band name is silly. Breaking In Reverse ending feels marginally britpoppy to me. Britpop feel is back again in Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation. I think there's some humour here, but I lose interest in the vocals due to the breathy, reverby production. Best track - You Are the Morning, Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation 3 stars - it's fine.

I don’t really get why such a recent album deserves to be on the list but anyway, some good, some bad. Some fun some too slow and boring. I feel very meh about it.

Could not get past the vocals on this one. I didn’t mind a couple of the tracks, and after learning more about the artist was able to appreciate some of the lyrics a bit more, but overall I didn’t care for the album.

Fresh voice. Really enjoyed it

Reminds me of a lot of alternative from the 2010s. I enjoyed it, but felt pretty middle of the road, not sure why it gets so much hate.

Better than I expected

The indie vocals are the most loathsome aspect of this album. At times long lyrics are awkwardly forced into too short of lines. Musically it is... fine. Nothing stands out as groundbreaking.

This was an interesting curveball, especially in the context of my having been making my way through the users list for over a year now. The user submissions now include a couple albums from trans artists, but most of those have been firmly Electronic joints, either recognizably flavors of pop music or more experimental distorted glitchy sounds, and the album cover here had me expecting more of that. So it was a big surprise to spin this up and get a 4-piece band out of Manchester. Guess that’s what’s required to convince the editors to allow in some more explicitly-queer music. Reading wikipedia, seems like there’s a Phoebe Bridgers bridge bringing this to some more mainstream attention. Any case, I haven’t traditionally been the biggest liker of Manchester bands, and I wouldn’t exactly say this won me over. A better update than more goddamn rolling stones, though

Interesting vocals, but I prefer Antony(Anohni)’s voice. There are some good songs here, and she does go into the challenges and joys of being trans. Anohni just feels more universal, which I prefer. Clearly from the comments in the YouTube videos, she has a strong impression on trans people. Enjoyable if not particularly conducive to repeat listening for me.

Surprised to see this new 2025 album and artist as a needless addition to the list. It’s a subtle, indie folk alternative singer-songwriter sound that’s not awful (though not great) and certainly presents nothing new or unique other than the artist is trans. Hardly a qualifying credential for the list.

There's something in here and I'm definitely for having more transgender representation on the list, but also this album kinda feels like a "beta version". Pleasant vocals. Bit underdeveloped, big chunk of the songs on here feel like they end before they even properly begin. Got potential though.

I liked some of the songs!! Some felt a little repetitive. Good album to cuddle with your cat on a cold day to. Wish I could give 2.5 stars tho

I mean this is a fine album… but like, do you need to hear it before you die?? I don’t know if this is substantially different than any number of albums that have come out in the past 15 years imo. It’s not bad. But I won’t listen to it again because I didn’t find it super memorable. Season: Early Spring Favorite Song: Roan

This album just leads me to ask why include this instead of anything by Boygenius or its members? It’s fine, but definitely not “essential”. Vocals sound kind of like Bon Iver. Favorite song was Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation.

Ok first album of this new batch and it’s ok? But who are these people? I thought I hated it, but I found myself really enjoying the second half.

Not what I expected, from the cover.

It was pleasant but not something id pick up again.

Surprisingly good

While I wasn’t familiar with this artist and didn’t really have any expectations, I enjoyed this more than I thought I would after getting through the first track. With that said, I’m not really a fan of their voice or nasally delivery, but I enjoyed the instrumentals and a couple of songs. I also listened to the entire album without skipping any tracks, so there’s that. I would normally give this a two, but I enjoyed it more than I expected, considering its obscurity, so I’m going with a three. “Elephant” and “Skin to Skin” were probably my favourite tracks.

Not sure. Wasn’t excited about this. Never heard of it

Think this is the most modern but it’s far from a classic.

I'll share my jasmine.4.1 Green Man story some time.

I grew into this album. An interesting voice. Wouldn’t necessarily have been the album I would have chosen from 2025, but not bad

Fairly standard indie fare, but with a few twists that make it quite interesting - especially as it's the first time I've heard it. Enjoyed the variety from folk influence to almost anthemic rock. Not ready to give it a 4 though. So that'll be 3*.

Hm. I liked it that the very AI-looking album cover didn't give a hint to the singer-songwriter style of this album. But I didn't really find Jasmine Cruikchank's voice very appealing, or really the accompanying music, so this didn't really do it for me, and felt like a really random selection to include as an album to hear before you die. The only tracks that kind of grabbed me were "Breaking in reverse: and the great-named "Guy Fawkes Tesco disassociation", and even those ultimately felt like a bit of a buzzkill despite their energy. But I give props to the project editors for finding an album in 2025 to include in the collection, even if it's not really to my taste.

As someone who has got tired of the amount of same-y folk records on the user list this was not a great start to the new additions

Very calming with nice vocals. I enjoyed the fingerstyle guitar on certain tracks. 7/10

A few stand out songs with opportunities for her to show off her lovely voice
