Reviews (page 7 of 7)

I'm not in the mood to go down the rabbit hole of insanity with crap like this today.

Strange one. Most of the songs got me thinking what is going on here. Definitely an interesting album to listen to but not really something I would listen to for enjoyment.

Did not care for this. At all. I was excited to see an album from the 90s, but this was not my jam. Legitimately difficult to listen to.

Awful album. Song 2, The Duchess, has to be one of the worst songs I've ever listenend to.

Shleep oli sleepy ja huonolla tavalla. Vittu mitä ininää

very annoying

This is unoffensive as far as experimental albums go but I'm not a fan. Fav Track: Heaps of Sheeps

Not good. Hated the voice.

The last time we had a Robert Wyatt album I said it was absolute shite and 1/5. Shleep doesn't improve on that I'm afraid, even though Heaps of Sheep and Maryan are okay enough to listen to at the start of the record, this is mostly a preposterous excuse for music, fully aware of what they're doing, and another 1/5. Bomb Canterbury.

Not sure what I was listening too.

I've never been so irritated in my entire life

Why? As having listened to his first album at the suggestion of this site. I has extreme prejudice and was trepidatious at having to do this experiment all over again with a different album.....Imagine my surprise that I found the first track NOT terrible, listenable. The tension in my shoulders and neck subsided; I exhaled and then WHAM! The second track started and I felt the tension rise and peak at the electric piano/clarinet note that wavered off key for what seemed like forever to come crashing down into a cacophony of disjointed sound. I don't understand the people who wrote in their reviews that this sounded more polished than his first album. And after listening to the whole album I see their point. It is more polished: the songs don't meander like the first albums and there is more coherence to the melodies. However....a turd is a turd; polished or no. And just NO. No.

Did nothing for me at all

Heaps of Sheep has a kind of U2 Pop (underrated U2 album) feel to the music. His voice has a Saturday morning cartoons feel to it. I won't say that I loved the first song, but The Duchess is horrible, it's like a children's song about his terrible, whorish wife. I bet Daniel Johnston loved this album. This is not the best representation of anything. This is only being saved from the very worst albums by some truly inspired garbage that was included in this list. I am losing respect for music critics the further I get into the list. Add prog rock to the list of genres I don't like. My god this is terrible. The Flaming Lips' lead singer must have taken notes on singing with a silly voice. This is like adding jazz to psychedelic rock...and it is magically way less than the sum of its parts. Blues in Bob Minor is Robert Wyatt's Subterranean Homesick Blues, and it is one of the better tracks on the album and is still a terrible homage to the original. That is a song format that is oft repeated and this was one of the worst I've heard.

This is too british

Just a little .... weird !

Do you enjoy fever dreams? Do you hate your eardrums? If the answer is yes, then this album is perfect for you.

Not the worst thing I've listened too, but strong contender. It's one of those arty pretentious wank albums that makes noise and calls it music, song 2 (not the blur one) is offensive to my ears, it's shit and I want to burn it.

Skipped through the first half. Didn’t love the experimentation

Getting real tired of the trash on this list.

Out of key, out of tune, absolutely not worth listening to.

Eh. Not sure what to say. Had two listens through and nothing was imparted on me.

Is this a fucking joke? The music is terrible, the singing is absolutely dreadful! This is like a troll album pick. Fuck off with this nonsense. Who ever picked this as something to hear before you die, should never discuss music again. Need a 0 star rating for trash like this.

1. zheepz - 1 2. duchezz - 0 3. maryan - 1 4. friend - 0 5. teztament - 1 6. ninth - 1.5 7. alien - 1.5 8. zeazon - 1 9. madrid - 0 10. bluez - 0 11. no return - 1

I will be pursuing legal action against the purveyors of this listing for unsolicited mental anguish as a result of their lack of musical taste. For this to be someone’s album of the year for 1997 is disturbing, as the sound of toilets flushing would be far more entertaining.

Bad album. This is some serious weird, prog stuff from Robert Wyatt. It's pretty far out and generally not very good. There's some interesting stuff, but it's not really an album I'll ever listen to again. I'll shleep well. *

not for me

all i can say is the album title is extremely fitting

Hm never heard of this guy. Hmmm I'm not liking this at all. it has zero melody, sounds like a person just randomly making sounds when they're trying to make up a song on the fly. 1 star.

Bah!!!

Like a shittier Tiny Tim

Awful!

Absolute drivel

Terrible

What was that. This one star is actually zero stars.

This was dumb and not easy to listen to

I was lost with this one. Didn't connect with anything on it.

This shit sucks

*Looks at Beefheart and Zappa albums* "No, no, you see THIS is worth SOMETHING." *Looks at Robert Wyatt albums* "THAT is worth NOTHING." 1/5

Er zijn grenzen.

usually I'm at least somewhat generous to stuff that tries to be "artsy" like this, but this just feels super forced and pretentious. there are a couple glimmers of enjoyable music but as everybody and their dog has pointed out, his voice is just unlistenably bad. is there supposed to be some point being made by the juxtaposition of the awful vocals and the passable-to-good music? possibly, but just because you do something bad on purpose doesn't make it magically not bad

What a fucking awful album.

kinda ok until I git to Sea Song. so whiney! not my thing

Ugh terrible

It is just one of those weird things and if you can get over the fact that the singer cannot sing then you would like this album. But if you actually like your singers to actually be in tune and know how to sing this album will be like nails on a chalk board. It reminded me of Frank Zappa. But Frank Zappa could carry a tune and actually sing. Not sure if I can go through and listening to this artist other albums.

Too slow, from what I remember

I can only conclude this album is on the list solely due to its pedigree. Wikipedia lists this as a progressive album but it's not progressive in any way. It does not push the art form forward but instead sets it back. It is REgressive. Transgressive. The second track in particular is an egregious, atonal, arhythmic mess. I had high hopes that that would be the worst of it, but I was sorely disappointed when the rest of the album followed suit. Thanks for an exceptionally frustrating hour, Mr. Wyatt.

INSUPPORTABLE j’en reviens pas qu’ils aillent autant d’albums insipide et straight up gossant sur cette liste là

It's certainly interesting. It came close to engaging a couple of times. But ultimately, it feels self-indulgent; a public display of weirdness in an effort to prove individuality.

Oh my god. I´m so sick of all that Robert Wyatt stuff! Are there really no other remarkable albums in this world from someone who at least can sing?

This one really put me to shleep!

No spark for me here.

This sounds like a pop artist who wanted to make something artsy but didn't really have any ideas. So the record just bumbles along making weird noises for weirdness sake. So this is a fail for me.

At first it was just weird and boring, but not as mind-numbing as some prog rock. But as it went on it edged into jazz, and by about halfway through was sapping my will to live.

I got to the middle of Track #2, and I'm not going to put myself through anymore horror. The creator of this list should rethink what makes a top 1001 album to listen to.

no, just no

"heaps of sheeps" started out OK, but damn... "the dutchess" spiraled into terrible noise.

Not for me - atonal, a-rhythmic, and pretentiously Avant Garde.

Too weird

i hate this more than all the grains if samd on all the besche sof all the planets in all the galaxies

I mean it's terrible. It is even music?

Why do you hate me?

Schrecklich

Terrible, annoying, whiny, could not finish

Too nerdy AND EXPERIEMTal and strange voice

Poor man's Randy Newman vibes coming off this guy.

Couldn't do it. Skipped songs after a few seconds. Gave up after five tracks

Rock progresivo experimental. Un sinsentido. Un 1.

Ugh. Too psychedelic and unstructured for my taste.

I'm sure this music is for someone....just not me. I kind of Heaps Of Sheeps, and Blues In Bob Minor. Otherwise every song sounds like Joe Strummer And The Mescaleros, set out to make the worst folk/jazz hybrid you have ever heard. I almost did not finish this one. Would not listen again.

This is very avant garde. Through the first three songs it sounds like this guy loves sounding like an orchestra warming up before a concert. There are definitely bright spots in the music but it's intentionally such a mess and the vocals are also intentionally non-traditional that I find it hard to make it through the album

Rock progresivo experimental. Un sinsentido. Un 1.

Va e detta

I did not enjoy a single second of this album. Only got through it by sheer force of will

This was dreadful. Took every fiber of my being to listen to the end.

Did not enjoy thank you very much

The first track was a banger, and then this thing went off the proverbial rails. As expected. You don't create that photo for the album cover and not expect listeners to proceed with trepidation.

Not my style. Too chaotic and not cohesive. Could only listen to part of the first three songs on the album before I got fed up.

First album I couldn't make it through. I'm assuming the off key singing is on purpose, but it doesn't do anything for me.

schlep.

Bullsh*t, bullsh*t, derivative!

If you gave acid, a bunch of instruments, and recording equipment to an extra on the set of Monty Python & The Holy Grail, they probably could come up with a better album

If the word "pretentious" were an anagram for "a bunch of crap", then we'd have a winner. "Heaps of Sheeps" was at least interesting to listen to, and also was an attempt at an actual song. The rest of it was a pointless cacophony. What a waste of a spot on this list.

who told this man he should make music

Echt geen idee wat ik hiermee moet of waarom ik dit gehoord moet hebben. Meneer Wyatt is duidelijk in de late jaren 60 blijven hangen.

More corny British bullshit. I simply do not care to listen to a man mumble his way through jazzy nursery rhymes in a twee falsetto.

This sucks I stopped listening

what in the heck? the second song is pretty atonal, and the vocalist is not about able to sing very well. What in the hell is this? This guy's vocal tone makes me want to puke. Blues In Bob Minor is solid surprisingly. I hated this.

Not for me, only really enjoyed one song on the album.

Absolute crap. Seriously. The further you go into the album, the deeper the crap.

FAVO: Blues in Bob Minor

I knew nothing about this artist and the album. Largely a very weird album. Maryan was the only song I liked or could stand, most songs skipped for being whack. 0.5

This is another obscure English album which has no business being on a list of important, influential, or best albums in popular music. "Shleep" wildly misses all five of those descriptors: important, influential, best, popular, music. Contrived and overly pretentious, this allegedly legendary musician is purposefully singing nursery rhymes off-key. It is asinine. Anyone who mistakes this for music should be ashamed of themselves.

To say this is weird is not saying a lot… quite the experience, I’ll put it that way

Prog rock? More like prog not very good :( This just doesn't make sense to me, it doesn't sound good at all. The horns are strange, singing isn't great imo and the instrumental arrangements just don't sound good half the time. 2.5/10

What a load of shite.

It's like being transported back to the 1970s! I wasn't too keen on his style of jazz fusion, psychedelia and progressive rock back then, and I'm still not a fan.

Eh. Nah. Nah

Ehkä mulla on alikehittyneet lapsen aivot, mutta siis eieieiei. Lauluäänikin väkinäinen ja nuhainen.

Nah, got on my tits after a few songs and turned it off

Holy shit why? Multiple people had to approve this album being recorded in the first place. Those people should find better jobs. I was over it by the second song. It did not get better.

Kuin dystopisessa rinnakkaistodellisuudessa uudelleen rakennettu Neil Young. Onko valinta tälle listalle kunnioittavaa artistia itseäänkään kohtaan?

Bad …

When the first track started playing, I was like "oh, this is isn't what I expected". it was very much in that 70s Eno-period/Roxy Music art-pop mold, with a more chilled out vibe. And I really dug it. Probably not really a surprise given the Eno production and appearance by Phil Manzanera. But then the rest of the album is just awful. I quite like Wyatt's voice (although his tunes meander a bit), but jeez, please keep the man away from any other instrument. Much of the instrumental 'soloing' is tuneless caterwauling, and Wyatt himself seems to be the main culprit on fiddle and trumpet. It was pointless, directionless noise. Disliked. Heaps of Sheep is the only listenable track on the record. Maybe I'm having a bad day, but this record actually angered me. Which is quite an achievement, given how chill it is.

nope nope nope

Echt??!

Het eerste nummer was nog wel ok, maar daarna zakte Robert diep door zijn hoeven...

Some classic prog with a lovely voice and totally un-listenable.

I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS

I hated this from start to finish.
