the boys
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST OF ALL TIME OH MY GOD IM DYING I LOVE THIS ONE THANK U 1001 GEN FOR MAKING ME LISTENING TO THIS MASTERPIECE AGAIN
The first half of this album tells a story that feels like it’s taking place on the streets in a city where you hear the sounds of a really cool party going on somewhere almost distant. Then the second half is that party.
A personal favourite that I haven't heard in a while. I feel like it does drag just ever so slightly, but not too much. I'd personally give this a 4.5, but I'm okay with a 5.
Sweeeet, i have heard sun of this one
Daft Punk were truly the greatest act to do what they did. I cannot think of many artists that were able to create a look nearly as iconic as the robots, and with the absolute quality of music they had to back it up they created this unquantifiable quality I truly think is unmatched. It's like fucking magic Admittedly, Homework predates Thomas and Guy's robot personas by a couple of years, but it does perfectly set the groundwork for not just their own sound, but also their influence on the world of electronic music as a whole. Plus, it's a damn good record in its own right. It's easy to label it all as overly repetitive, and I can definitely understand if it's your inclination to do so, but I really find if you can just give yourself over to it there's so much to enjoy. The duo really knows how to hone in on the right sounds, the right tones, and to create these small variations within the repetition to keep the energy flowing. The "french touch" is real, and it is alive on this record. With all that said, this is probably my 3rd or even 4th favourite record from Daft Punk, if we are including live albums, and it's mind boggling to me that this is the only one to be included on this list. With so many different editions made of the 1001 albums, and so much of the list being overly bloated with some artists almost full discographies, how is this Daft Punk's only showing? I really think an album like Discovery is necessary in showcasing their evolution, and solidification as icons within the industry. But whatever. Daft Punk forever Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World Fav Track: 7 - Around The World Best Three Track Run: 3, 4, 5
Exactly as good as I wanted it to be after decades of knowing songs but never actually listening to a Daft Punk album, despite my enjoyment of disco and house. Every track was like crack to my ADD infested brain.
My second album from the series "1001 albums you must hear before you die" Last year, I thought about starting listening to electronic music / music without words, because during any work it helps to concentrate. But I still couldn't find the style of music that I would like. Daft Punk saved me from this situation. I like to evaluate albums like this, where you just have to listen. Here you don't need to think about every line in the song, look for some metaphors, read translations or delve into the biography, here you just need to listen, just enjoy the sound. It turned out to be very easy to listen to. The kind of music I didn't know I needed. And as always: around the world around the wooooorld
A banger
Just brilliant. From start to finish
we makin it around the world with this one
Great debut album by Daft Punk. Has some great noisy tracks like “Rollin’ & Scratchin’,” “Rock’n Roll,” and “Burnin’.” Some great dance tracks like “Indo Silver Club,” “Da Funk,” “Phoenix,” and “Around the World.” It’s my least favorite Daft Punk album, honestly, but all of their albums are pretty great.
Brilliant from start to finish
BANGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lovely, lovely, lovely. Homeworklogic.
very cool
Influential album, from Influential band with influential music video from influential director
Daft Punk was one of the first electronic bands I got into, and as popular as Around The World was, I was more into Discovery, a truly remarkable record. Didn't give a lot of thought to Homework, but it's a fun record to reflect onto now as a Electronic musician myself (check me out at schles.bandcamp.com for avant-garde synth shit). Homework was a revolutionary album for Electronic music's impact on the world. Kraftwerk in Germany demonstrated the mechanical man-machine kind of sound, and Yellow Magic Orchestra in Japan showed a more colorful, creative approach if Kraftwerk was meant to be cold and calculating (but look at how much fun they have with their pocket calculators!). Daft Punk, in France taking influence from Chicago House, perhaps represented an accessible form of rave music to the masses. Indeed Revolution 909 is meant to be a statement of sorts against how the French government negatively portrayed people that went to raves vs rock concerts. Beyond that, Homework functions as a hallmark of electronic music's 90s sort of golden age. Reforming disco music and making it go harder, skipping formal songwriting and going straight into the groove of it. Homework functions as many things, and its eclecticism of its time has aged.........maybe not the best? It's very much an album that sounds like its time, something prone to the synthesizer tools of the time (for all the people complaining about it being repetitive, buddy you should learn how to use 90s sequencers). Daft Punk were doing something extraordinary, and easier to digest in the same groundbreaking way Aphex Twin was to the genre. Doing more with less with Around the World while also acting as an octopus for repetitive grooves (Da Funk) really does work well. but it also sounds so incredibly 90s. I don't think that means it is a negative version of the Seinfeld is Unfunny trope, but it can make the album feel cliche when it was something more than that. No but seriously how is Discovery not on this list?
After Alive 2007 or so, folks probably don’t have a fixed memory of Daft Punk ever not being the robots, but once upon a time they were just two French DJs, anonymous as anyone else. In the context of “electronica” and all that, Homework really stood out for its house-indebted minimalism and patience, whereas the big beat acts had the bombast of hip hop and rock. Which is not to say the one is better than the other, but across genres, I found myself gravitating towards Underworld, Bedhead, DJ Shadow, and Daft Punk, all groups that foreground deliberate pacing but weren’t without their moments of colour or maximalist expression. Anyhow, they’ve never topped this, much as I enjoy Discovery and the live albums.
A classic collection of dance beats from the masters of the French touch. Objectively, this album is pretty loose and far from the perfection of 2001’s Discovery. But since Discovery is inexplicably absent from this list, Homework gets a tentative 5 stars in its stead.
the album that got me into electronic music as a whole back in 2024. one of my favorite albums ever. 5/5
Not a wasted second on this
Fabulous french
yay!
Imagine how incredible it must have been to see the robots live. Long live Daft Punk
Great
Nothing like the good old daft punk funky beats. Absolutely banger of an album. A very fun listening experience. 5/5
ОООО, Дафтыч на подходе, ну посмотрим-посмотрим, что там у нас.
Classic dance love me some daft punk
I don’t know why but Daft Punk is the one techno/club band that I really enjoy. Maybe it’s because every second of their music feels intentional instead of aimless beeping and booping. Maybe it’s because they’re French and most other club music I’ve heard is British
I was listening to Daft Punk when I checked the album and I was like yeah im gonna check not listen bc I need to lock in. But then the album was daft punk. Very serendipitous.
They're so good at what they do. It's specific, but they're great at it.
The robots will always get a 5. Only robots I like making music.
Obviously great. They should have at least two more albums here instead of Neil Young's 74 albums.
Human After All is een 3+, Alive 2007 is wederom een hele dikke 5 sterren.

House classic and super important electronic album. The blueprint for everything after 2000 in my eyes. Rollin' & Scratchin' + Da Funk are amazing tracks.
I really love Daft Punk, and I have a hard time deciding my favourite album of theirs. This just might be it though.
Daft Punk. house music that appeals to rockists maybe, but if you see how edm listeners talk about them and this album, you'll see just how foundational and beloved they truly are. this is the raviest they ever got and it has some timeless and delectable grooves. huge fan of this. deserves to be one of the 1001? absolutely!!! and please!!! add Discovery!!! the greatest album ever made!!!
Yeah it’s repetitive but it’s electronic music! I had listened to some of this album a long time ago before I had really listened to much electronic music. And I thought it was ok, but the repetitiveness turned me off. Giving this album a full listen yesterday, I like it a lot. A lot a lot. It’s a little rough around the edges but I appreciate that. I like debut albums like this where you can tell the artist is still figuring out their sound but they have lots of good ideas. Homework has plenty of them. Discovery may be a more concisely crafted album, but Homework is a fabulous debut and definitely one I’ll keep in rotation.
Big hits like Da Funk and Around The World. 5/5
That beat is infectious. I wish they had made more albums.
IT's Daft Punk. Funky techno for the win.
Stone cold classic
OMG, what a joy to revisit this album once again! This was a groundbreaking album at the time, funky abstract dance music, but Daft punk was also one of the first live dance-acts, like Underworld, showing the world that dance and live acts could easily go together. Needless to say I have seen both acts numerous times during my raving years from the '90s to about 2010. If only for the memory of those good times, I'll rate it 5/5!
Pure quality
Daft punk
If I wanted to be hyper critical here, I might say some of the tracks can at times feel repetitive or feel like they are a bit too long. That said this album is basically perfect, and while it may not hold the same place in my heart as Discovery, it's still an easy 5-star for me. This album fundamentally changed modern EDM. For most people this album IS house music: you put this on some speakers, crank the volume, and you can't help but bop. Favorite tracks (all of them?!) Da Funk, Phoenix, Around the World, Burnin, Indo Silver, I mean this is just too fun.
Banger album made of banger tracks, constantly some new catchy thing coming up so you never get bored. Da Funk may be my favorite Daft Punk song of all time.
I love Daft Punk so much! Definitely one of the library classics every child should have.
Absolute classic. IMHO their best album.
Best dance album of all time. For some reason I haven't listened to the album in full for years, so I was a little surprised to see the 70 minute run time. But here's the thing that the reviews saying the tracks are too long don't realize: you can't do what Daft Punk does on these tracks in 3 or 4 minutes. Even the most straightforward and repetitive tracks evolve through their duration, with different elements rising to the surface before being replaced by others, while the groove just grows and grows. They really mastered their craft on their debut. Maybe it could benefit from being 2 tracks shorter, but I struggle to pick which 2 I'd drop.
So many bangers in here
Another album I've heard a bazillion times from living in the car for years.
Have always liked this album and have listened to it many times. Have liked pretty much everything Daft Punk has put out.
Très bons sons, je commence à découvrir l'univers de la House donc cet album tombe à pic. Après c'est un classique donc forcément c'est cool. J'ai bien aimé High Fidelity et Teachers pour l'utilisation des samples. Burnin, Around the World et Fresh pour vraiment viber. Voilà donc globalement une très bonne expérience d'écoute, un album qui m'a mis dans le workflow donc parfait.
cool heard it before though
Classic album, all bangers, house with feeling, have it on vinyl, the music video's are part of my youth. They transcendent house with this record and it being their first makes it all the more impressive.
While it might not have the more pop-flavored stylings of something like Discovery or, later on, RAM, this is still a damn fine record in its own regard, especially if you get into the track remixes included on the 25th anniversary reissue. If I had the ability to, I'd give this 6 stars.
I’m at a 4.5 that I’ll easily bump up to a 5. That’s the first time I’ve ever heard “Homework”; I’m far more aware of the other Daft Punk albums, but I just never went back to this one. It’s certainly different – Daft Punk would later expand its range into a little more of a soft pop blend with the electronica / EDM / house standards that are so clearly set up on this album, and I definitely prefer everything from “Discovery” onward, but even the “worst” Daft Punk album that my ears have heard is still a fucking banger. “Around the World” is obviously the all-timer here, but most of the 74 minute runtime of this album is a treat. Really, the only reason I’m at a 4.5 and not a flat 5 is because a few tracks just felt a little long (“Rollin’ & Scratchin’” & “High Fidelity”), & “Rock’n Roll” in particular just kind of bounced off of me after about 5 minutes. Little too noisy, and the abrupt ending doesn’t help. Past those minor bumps though, what emerges is a very strong album that’s more instrumental / club-centric than its successors. Mileage will vary on how much one would like the straight instrumental approach, but as someone who already listens to a little too much video game music, it didn’t bother me as much here. The thing that struck me the most about the production work / composition is how much this album tends to rely on its lower, bassier tones, using anything extra high as a point of contrast to make the progressions feel more fulfilling. When it works, it works, but there are points on this album where it doesn’t, and it’s pretty noticeable when it doesn’t. Those moments are generally fleeting, but it does show the slight messiness of this album compared to how tightly they would refine it down the line. Of course, I’m nitpicking apart the little things I didn’t like about this because the rest of it is just worth all the praise a Daft Punk album should get. It’s still a great, great debut album, and I wouldn’t blame anyone for preferring this sort of style more to their later work. If the biggest complaint I have is “a few tracks were a little long & the progression isn’t always perfect”, then you’ve still made a great electronica album, since I’ve definitely said the same stuff about other electronica albums that were far worse than this. It’s an extremely easy bump up to a 5, and a very recommended album. I wish “Discovery” or “Random Access Memories” were here on the list, but alas.
Essential House
Excellent. Good background beats.
Great album
House music isn't necessarily a genre that lends itself well to albums. And why would it? The real heads will point out all the singles, remixes, and DJ sets that make up the canon; dance music is an ecosystem that thrives across formats. But Daft Punk came out with an album more or less right out the gate and gave the genre one of its most defining statements. Full disclosure: Daft Punk is my all time favorite band, so I will likely get hagiographic. But Homework remains a testament to what house music can do. Discovery's disco samples and high pass filters constitute the sound Daft Punk are probably best known for, but Homework plays more like a punk record in spirit, if not in song length or style: every track homebrewed, every sound explored. You can hear something like the genesis of the true 'French house' sound in the pulsing bassline and repetitive vocoder in "Around the World", but also the rip roaring acid of "Rock 'n Roll", the Chicago-style groove of "Burnin'", the uplifting gospel-influenced dance music of "Phoenix". All of this would be pointless though if it still wasn't so much goddamn fun to listen to though! The chopped samples, squalling 303s, and vocal effects still tickle my ears, and I still haven't even mentioned the warped porno soundtrack synth and almighty thumping bass of stone-cold classic "Da Funk", whose towering might commands so much attention it only made sense that Daft Punk basically played it with some minor tweaks and mashups in Alive 2007. While I mentioned Daft Punk developed more singular sounds for their albums later - the aforementioned French touch of Discovery, the minimalist vocoder post-punk of Human After All, the overly expensive studio-wizard virtuosity of Random Access Memories - the delight here comes from the constant kid-in-the-candy-store moments you get. Daft Punk themselves certainly weren't shy about where these influences came from - halfway through the album you get "Teachers", which cites a whole litany of American DJs (many of whom still perform regularly FYI!!) but with this album established themselves as titans so forcefully when Laidback Luke did an updated (and, sorry, weirdly badly produced) edit of "Teachers" a decade later he basically did so to build up to honoring Daft Punk at the end. Unfortunately, Discovery, my all time favorite album, is not going to be on this list. But I'll still always give the seed that sprouted the plant a five.
around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world
Hell yeah, this is perfect.
They wrote the rulebook for funky dance music, as far as I'm concerned
A lot of the big electronic albums of this era kind of sit in the same realm, where the tracks vary between absolute bangers and repetitive experimental noise. It's the reason why most of the time, when I was bigger into EDM, I preferred listening to DJ mixes rather than producer albums back in the day. This is true of even the best of the mainstream producer albums, whether Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim or Crystal Method. Homework is an exception to this rule, for the most part, though there are still a couple tracks that are just annoying noise, like Rolling and Scratching, Oh Yeah, and Rock n Roll. The high points lift this to greatness though. There are the singles, Around the World and Da Funk, then a bunch of great deep cuts like Revolution 909, Phoenix, Fresh and Indo Silver Club. In fact, Fresh kind of provides the blueprint for the Stardust Track "Music Sounds Better with you" that came out a little after this. Teachers, High Fidelity excellent as well. The whole album is one I often come back to--it's a defining album for the French deep house sound of this era, although others like Dmitri From Paris were more foundational. 5/5
Lots to like. You could make the case it’s a bit too long but it all works so well
10/10. No skips
scratchy fun electro-pop
It's really hard to state how much this album blew my 14 year old mind when it came out. I was really just starting to listen to my own kind of music, and this funky, free flowing masterpiece showed me something I had never imagined could exist before that point. I still regularly listen to tons of track from this album. Overall, I like some of Daft Punk's later stuff better, but that's a relative statement because all of it is amazing.
Każdy kawałek robi.
F*ck i love Daft punk
Homework is an album i really do like. I am fairly aware of some of the songs from this album mainly Da Funk primarily due to it's inclusion in Just Dance 3 but i never really knew that it would be this good. I genuinely think that this album has some seriously amazing sounding electronic elements from the regular bleeps and bloops that were nigh on everywhere to that more rough sounding electronic sound that could give the album a more rocking vibe. The vocals could be pretty hit or miss but the main issue that most people have to get around is the repetition. Despite that, this is still a really fun album and definitely one i enjoyed all the way through. Best Song: Da Funk Worst Song: Teachers
Just a fantastic album. Had to play it a second time.
I can see why this is playing in James Murphy's house, its fucking fire.
I kinda think they're overrated but what do I know? It's fun to listen to.
Today i woke up and chose violence. I am very much of the position that everyone has different musical opinions and that is what makes this process great. However, the litany of people (obviously of one nationality) complaining that this is repetitive and not deserving of their place on the list is too long not to call out. This is a fucking 5 star album for a number of reasons. Firstly, its a brilliant listen. The tracks build with the force of a truck doing 100mph and hit you with the same energy, Using loops to build a soundscape that is intoxicating and hypnotic. Secondly, this album is an unmissable cultural waypoint on the electronic music journey that has exploded in the last 30 years and given so much to music lovers around the world (around the world). Discovery took this sound to the masses but this album sets the blueprint and ages better as it stands alone rather than relying what zeitgeist was prevalent at the time. A mutha fucking classic that is absolutely one of the albums you need to hear before you shuffle off this mortal coil and discover that god is actually 2 shiny helmetted french robots.
Incredible record. Love it
Masterclass
Might not be as good as Discovery or RAM but it's still fantastic!
Can be argued as the best electronic album of all time , an album that I’ve listened to countless times and never not enjoyed. As with all Daft Punk albums it flows so well and achieves its musical purpose. As I’ll be listening to this for many more years to come - it’s a 5.
DAFT PUNK BABYYYYYYY. the debut album of one of the biggest names in electronic music, daft punk puts a futuristic, post-modern spin on european dance music. the music sounds like it comes from a rave inside an endless warehouse populated by robots. gritty buzzy synths, stabbing sampled plunderphonics and thumping beats make for an excellent electronic album. compared to discovery, this one has a more straightforward industrial and techno sound. homework for you. listen to this all the way through and write a short paragraph on why it's great.
Duh
Fuck yes!
Yea, I don't care if this is repetitive. Easy to listen to while getting stuff done and you don't have to think too hard about anything. Just a good listen. 5/5
The only Daft Punk album I would give 5*s to. And boy howdy does it deserve it. It's just wall to wall classics
Im gonna cum
Great debut, I liked it a lot more than previous listens. Not as good as Discovery or RAM but not weak by any means. I would rate this a high 4 but scared there aren't any other Daft Punk albums so gotta give them a 5. Rating: 4.6
I wasn’t sure if I’d like this because so much electronic music is repetitive and either annoying or boring. While this was definitely repetitive, I’m surprised to say that I never got tired of it. There were some bad parts but I really enjoyed the majority of the album. Da Funk and Funk ad weren’t as repetitive so they were my favorites, along with the classic Around the World.
Epic
El mejor
I'd probably give homework a 4 rather than a 5 based on its own merits, I like it but some tracks do wear a bit thin However given Discovery is not on the list, I will give this top marks as a proxy
This is simply a classic record. As a retired DJ, it’s hard for me to imagine a world without Daft Punk’s music. I genuinely believe there’s an argument to be made that this is the best electronic music record ever made. It really set the tone for a ton of house and techno ever since its release, even to this day. It’s really difficult to overstate how inspirational and influential it is. It’s full of the sort of songs that work just as well as background music while you’re working as they do full blast in a club full of people. It’s powerful and it’s just pure fun. 5*
Classic
Letsgoooooooo
Always great
10/10
Love Daft Punk. Somehow great for both background music at work and a wild night out
This rules. Just funky beats and grooves. Even though some of the songs are long, the album doesn't drag. Spectacular.
You wanna know what EDM was all about in the 90s? Here it is.
I remember this album coming out. I thought it sounded like it came from another planet and I was inspired to install pirated versions of music production software that taxed my beige Pentium-powered PC so I could enjoy some knob-twiddling myself.
I guess I really like electronic music, surprisingly.
Mostly repetitive nonsense and random noise. I love it
Never getting old, always new songs that strike differently. A masterpiece! 6/5
A gamechanger album. And some great vids. So good.
classic
Torn between a 5 stars or a hard 4.5 stars. Awesome album, sick for it's time. I'm going to give it a 5
Homework is where it all began — and what a debut. Daft Punk’s first album is a gritty, pulsing, endlessly creative slab of French house that still sounds fresh decades later. It’s rawer and more underground than their later work, but that’s part of its charm. Every track feels alive, like it’s coming straight from a smoky club at 3 a.m. The opening track “Daftendirekt” sets the tone with a hypnotic groove that pulls you in immediately. “Rollin’ & Scratchin’” is a full-on sonic assault — distorted, relentless, and completely addictive. “Burnin’” is another standout, with its funky, loop-driven build that could soundtrack a night drive through a neon-lit city. “Indo Silver Club” and “Alive” bring in that trance-adjacent energy — both tracks feel like something you’d hear on a modern episode of A State of Trance, blending rhythm and atmosphere in a way that’s pure Daft Punk. And honestly? There’s not a bad track here. It’s one of those rare albums where every song earns its place. I had no idea this was their debut, but of the three Daft Punk albums I’ve heard so far, Homework is hands down my favorite. It’s raw, innovative, and effortlessly cool — a blueprint that launched an era. Favorite song: "Rollin' and Scratchin'"
Listened to it while running. Not sure I could listen to while doing the dishes
Not every song is great, but all in all very good
Amazing. 🪩 💃 🕺🏼 can’t believe this is 97. Makes me wanna rave still.
Oh yeah, teachers does it for me all the time. 6*
Good album. Good intro to EDM.
FUUUUCK YESSS!!
What a bloody album. Didn't expect to enjoy it so much, even as a house lover (thought house was best consumed in mixes or singles). Listened to this walking around the mean streets of the 17th and 18th Arrondissements of Paris, stopping at a cool looking bar and just taking this album in in its home ground. 5*, without doubt.
So much cool sound. Preventing house from boring is hard and they manage.
Sanoiskohan herra että kotiläksyt TEKEMÄTTÄ!! Jos herralle sanoisin.. ensimmäistä daft punk albumia päähän laittana tässä..
Daft Punk Slaps. I've been looking forward to the day we got Homework. I have no idea how Discovery, Random Access Memories, or Alive 2007 (one of my favorite albums of all time) didn't make the cut. It's interesting to see them as the progenitor to the nu-disco trend of the 2010s & 20s. Funny timing to receive this album, as I was searching the internet for any chatter on why they didn't perform at the Paris 2024 Olympic closing ceremonies last night.
Wonderful
Daft Punk is what I would call a foundational band. Canon is another word I have used to describe similar grandparents of style, those that define genre. It is both ironic and coincidental to say that "Homework" is actually really good homework if you want to understand early spinoffs to techno and electronica. Very few bands can make this claim, and the French have many positive examples surrounding electronic music, so Daft Punk is definitely a step up on a world scale. Yeah, I certainly didn't plan on spending my entire day grooving to any one band, but after this album ended, I just kinda kept the playlist going...
Love this record. Sooo gooood when it came out, it still sounds good
Edit: originally rated this a 4, but Spotify just came out with lossless and on second listen this is absolutely a perfect album.
Finish your Homework and then you can have some Discovery. There's not much to be said here. The singles are bangers, most of the other songs are "filler" that you could put between monsters in a live set. For sure this revolutionized electronic music creating a new acceptance in popular music. I'll stick with the singles rather than the album in entirety but Rollin' and Scratching is getting added to the playlist.
I mean, it's not discovery. But it's good. Why isn't discovery on this list? Was this much more influential or something? I'm giving this a 5* more for how it shaped the rest of Daft Punk's discography than for this album itself. I still really like this album but it's a weird choice to be their only entry.
quite a good album, I loved it and added to my playlist love electronic music, and those guys have changed it completely
Pretty amazing
Such a great listen for me. I just dig the beats they made and how the flow into each other. Alive being one of my favorites on this one and the one everyone knows Around the world. It's a great first album from them, truly made it a craft with synths and dance music. It gets you moving even if you don't think it will.
One of the best electronic albums ever. The repetition of Around the World is a statement on its own and the repetition itself is the thing that makes it such a marvelous song. Also Da Funk is incredible and Teachers as a tribute to all the inspirators… I don’t know where to begin or end my appraise… just enjoy!
Solidified electro music in pop music. Instant classic. French touch.
Revolutionary!
Still perfect
Fuckin goated.
One of the albums on the list I’ve listened to since I first heard “da Funk” with the iconic video of the dog man walking the streets of New York. Probably my personal 3rd favourite Daft Punk album (Alive 2007 and Discovery beat it to the punch) but even with that it’s still a 5 star for me. Just sad they’ve split up and I won’t get a chance to see them perform their magic live.
An absolutely enjoyable ride from beginning to end
Yep
🧑🍳🤌
Absolute banger
Proto electroclash, french nonsense. Bit cheesy at places but know what you're getting
A classic of the genera. Danced to it at the club many times.
One of the classics of the 90s electronic music scene, and maybe the most successful French act in the history of recorded music. It's repetitive, sure, but by design. The music is for you to get lost in, and to get up and dance. The beats are all perfectly placed and the album has aged incredibly well compared to many of their contemporaries. Having said that, Daft Punk went well past these humble beginnings with two later albums, 'Discovery' and 'Random Access Memories', both of which are tragically missing from this list. Those albums deserve 5 stars, while 'Homework' should really get s 4. Still, it's Daft Punk and I can't miss the opportunity to give them a perfect score.
There only is one Daft Punk. That makes them unique. The only question that remains is whether it floats your boat?
This is my favorite flavor of Daft Punk, and is generally the album I go to when I'm in the mood for them
Love this album!!!!!
Daft Punk called this album Homework because they knew every electronic artist will be meticulously studying this. Masterfully made funky and fun dance tracks. Love this album, the start of an illustrious career
Well I've listened to this album a bunch, it is a 5 star personal favorite. Even with personal favorite albums, I still relisten when they come up in this project and try to reflect on why they are meaningful to me. Most of the time, these are albums that were important to me in Highschool or College, which I expect is the case for most people. With Daft Punk, though, I didn't fully get into their music until Random Access Memories came out, which was after I graduated college and moved several states away to start my first full-time job. My friend (who was already a Daft Punk fan) and I would hang out on his porch in the summer, drinking and listening to their whole catalog, but this album and Alive '97 stick out in my memory. There is something raw and exciting in the tracks, which are minimalistic and primitive in comparison to the electronic music that was popular at the time (2013-2014). It's also bittersweet revisiting this album, and realizing that it was a decade ago instead of just a few years. Time comes for us all, and with most 5-star nostalgic albums, it's about the feelings.
So fun. Danced so the way through the album.
Epic
This is a great album, easy five.
Great album
Where have you been all my life?
Just greatness. For a double LP, this album NEVER has a drop in quality, and that quality is GREAT quality. It’s well produced and catchy. It feels less track based than an album like Discovery but it gives this album its own great style.
Daft Punk is the standard for all modern edm music. They elevated edm to a higher standing with what could be done with sampling and music production. Their love of disco and European discotheque culture made others pay attention and appreciate it more through their use of it. If their was only one Edm album on this list, it would be this one.
Not my usual style but Daft Punk is a staple of its genre, 5/5
Real talk a lot of the sounds on this are a style of dance music production that I don't like, the harsh sounding stuff doesn't work for me in this context. But otherwise an absolutely SMOKING HOT album, so good and they just got better and better
Amazing album
I see a lot of people saying it seems repetitive, and I get that. But at the time, this felt like a game changer. So influential in the development of house and dance music
bra skit! inte deras bästa album, men vilket band!
Very coolio
Not high enough for this level of repetition
Belter
OMG - I am LOVING this! It's taking me straight back to my college days.
Daft Punk: the answer to the question who made AI music before the invention of AI? The samples used for this album essentially make up 2/3 of this entire 1001 album list. This audibly got a loud “YES!” when it appeared
Daft Punk brings zen to electronic house music. Their hypnotic repetition is soothing. All of my love to this album, definitely the best robot guys in the game.
Classic. I was so stoked to be served Daft Punk on day 2.
The second five star 1997 album in a row. Yesterday it was a Dandy Warhols album I was unfamiliar with, today it's Daft Punk's Homework, an album I know well and love.
Life’s greatest regret is not being born 10-15 years earlier to see this live in my prime
This one don’t stop. Love the full-techno daft punk on this album. Da funk is my favorite but I like every song on this album
fav
I sure do miss Daft Punk. These guys are fire and this album is no exception.
Eine Offenbarung der elektronischen Musik.
Classic
Great one ☝️
I also own this album, this was my first electronic album that I bought myself in 97. Brings back memories!
Album fondateur de la vague house française, qui continue de s'écouter aussi bien qu'à sa sortie, avec ses sons électro danse ultra soignés.
It's really cool to see how Daft Punk's sound has changed throughout the years. This is a super 90's record and I love it. Favorite tracks: Da Funk, Around the World, Rollin' & Scratchin', Rock'n Roll
Never gets old.
House Classic
Loved it so much! Every track killed I could listen forever
Superstar
Banger ultime
Oh heal yeah
Loved it, 10/10
simply the best
Classic
Well, I listened to this album from start to end just 2 weeks ago. It's just such a fun album and the storytelling through the sounds really is one of my favorites ❤️ i listened to this on the train ride to go fishing at my friend's vacation home
Yes, this is 100% an album you must listen to before you die. Love Daft Punk, so this one is always a treat.
I've never listened to Daft Punk's first album but I love "Discovery" and "Random Access Memories" so I'm excited to dig into this. A lot of the early tracks are pretty straightforward house music but really well done. “Da Funk” is sick! Awesome build up. "Around the World" is a song I've heard a lot and sometimes the vocal hook grates on me because it's so repetitive. But if you start focusing on the other elements of the song, which are really dynamic, the vocals fade to the background and the song comes alive. (And then of course you still end up singing the vocal hook to yourself for the rest of the day.) Okay, did I use the word straightforward earlier to describe their approach to house? I take that back. The screeching sound on "Rollin' and Scratchin'" is absolutely bonkers! This is one of the coolest songs I've heard in a long time. And these samples on "High Fidelity" are really interesting. This is another banger! Wow, this album is just one high energy track after another with lots of invention and experimentation. This is a masterpiece of untz untz bass and artful club music. My respect for Daft Punk has reached a new high. 💯
Great album i love love love Daft Punk even as a kid and now at almost 16 years old
Essential dance music
This album slaps
A solid debut album that rightly made daft punk and french music a big name on the world scene. Solid album though, largely instruments album which limits its place but I can't dock points for that. Great choice for when the mood is right.
Incredible classic. I remember listening to "Around the World" with my cousins when i was young. Paid more attention to "Phoenix" and "Teachers" today, really enjoyed them. Intense electronic music, super repetitive but i think that's the whole point.
One of the most important albums I listened to in college. One of the first albums I can remember consciously feeling "cool" for listening to.
absolutely love daft punk, I wouldn't say this is my favourite album of theirs but it's still and absolute banger
Prefer their other albums but still amazing
peak
Still amazing.
Fantastic electronic album, one of my favorites.
Great album! Fun listen and great mix!
5 Stern. 6 wänni chönt.
Love love love this album. Groundbreaking in its day and just a boo from start to finish.
I've owned this album forever and it's definitely a classic. I do think Discovery is the better album, but I'm just happy Daft Punk is included.
Hmm... where shall I begin with this? One of the greatest electronic/dance albums of all time, from one of the greatest electronic/dance duos of all time and a great starting point for anyone getting into the bleep-bloops. Of course that was the experience for me all those years ago, with the beginning of Daftendirekt still sending me into a bit of a funk before I'm inundated with radio missives, repetitive mantras, acknowledgements of the techno greats that came before them and much more. With the album literally called Homework, one can not only begin the journey of Daft Punk but make their own journey as well. I sure as hell did.
Housey fun!
Los clásicos son clásicos
Seeeeeeeeeee
очень стильная, насыщенная музыка под которую классно проводить время и тусить Вот не всегда хочется ее слушать, но когда возвращаюсь то пропадаю сильно 4+ алкоальбом: потихоньку пьешь егерьмейстер
This is probably a 4 star album in reality, I tried to come with various justifications for giving a 5,and the one I keep coming back to is essentially a protest vote that Discovery isn't on here. But this still a great album in its own right - Alive, High Fidelity, Fresh, I could go on.
I have sometimes complained in this project of electronic music that consists of endlessly repeated phrases, and that's really what this is, but this is done right and with a good dance beat. There is some nostalgia with "Da Funk" and "Around the World" that enhanced the listening experience today. All in all, this was a great album to do dreaded yard work while drowning out the noisy neighbors with my earbuds today. I'm so happy to finally get some Daft Punk in this project! They're the best!
I can totally appreciate some pure dance tracks! Although there was a track or two that reminded me a bit of fingernails on a chalkboard, overall this album was great.
I enjoyed the heck out of this dance party. Great fun!
I’ve not listened to this album in a long time and had forgotten how much fun it is! Each song has a clear style and theme and had me movin’ and groovin’. I’m still in love with Daft Punk!
Daaamn
This album is the progenitor to so many electronic acts and I’m pretty sure helped launch Daft Punk’s career. It’s another one I’ve listened to many times over the years and it holds up really well!
I really like this album even though it's not Daft Punks best. There's some bangers but some of the songs get a little bit repetitive without peaking. It's like they're building up to a payoff that never arrives. However when this album is great it's truly great. Songs like Around the World, Da Funk and Rollin' & Scratchin' are hard to not appreciate the sheer level of awesomeness and a start of Daft Punk's great career.
I absolutely love Daft Punk - but when I saw that this album was 74 minutes long, I approached it with trepidation, thinking "ok their songs are great, but that's way too long to listen to repetitive EDM music in one sitting" Well I am happy to say I was wrong, those 74 minutes absolutely blew by, and not once did I ever think there was a song dragging on too long or that I was ready to move on to the next track. Daft Punk have this incredible way of building a beat throughout a song where they bring in new sounds one by one, and then let them linger so you brain adjusts to the new pattern. Then at the very moment where you have become adjusted and feel a wanting for some new stimulus, they grant it eagerly. It's like some kind of psychic DJ power. In my order of preference, I would say I prefer RAM to Homework, but I cannot deny the influence this album had, bringing House and EDM into the popular spotlight, something that has deeply affected Pop music ever since. Plus, this album is still a delight to listen to. Fav Tracks: Revolution 909, Da Funk, Around The World, Rollin' and Scratchin', Rock'n Roll
RIP Daft Punk :'(
All Daft Punk gets a 5 from me
5/5
Banger
God I love this record. It’s brilliant and perfect. I so wish I had seen them live. It is even more impressive that they totally surpassed this triumph with their following album.
Classic! F around the world
Loved it great tunes sound even better when they are blasting
9/10 - Great album, bit strange at points but it is always made up for
Loved it, I can see why they became iconic. Album saved!!

Around the world!!
Insuperable

Bangerzzzz
Not my favorite Daft Punk album but still earns its stars.
An absolute classic 5/5
Amazing besides around the world but won’t take away the five
Zašto ja ovo prije nisam u cijelosti poslušao?
Why haven’t I listened to this before?!
5 stars - very formative album for me as a preteen/teen
one of the most important albums ever made, its influence heard around the world, it still sounds fresh to this day, 25 years later. the textures and the shape of the music, the mastery of the synthesizer and dance music, its all so addicting — daft punk were truly so ahead of their time, they are missed. hopefully we can get a reunion tour at some point.
My least favourite Daft Punk album, but still 5 stars of course. (Or so I thought, afterwards listened to Discovery - this time liked Homework better.)
During my first listen the songs initially felt a bit too repetitive, but I started getting more into it when Around the World kicked in, and of course the Indo Silver Club is probably still my favourite Daft Punk track. With the second listen I was into it from the start and enjoyed it throughout. A love letter to techno/house/disco.
Love it! Great beat, great bass, not too repetitive. It's daft, punk!
Officially a daft punk fan
love this shit 10/10
Makes the whole house shake and bump. A monster of a record. A glorious release, full of the potential in techno, full of memorable tracks and major builds.
Fantastic album
Still a gem. Loved it when it was first released, still great.
Every track is a banger. Hard to believe this is 25 years old and to remember that this was pretty revolutionary when it came out. The video for revolution 909 is still one of my favourites.
Discovery will keep the #1 place for my Daft punk albums but the music style is already present in this album.
While "Discovery" is definitely the more consistent album (and understandably most people's favorite Daft Punk album) this album just has much higher high points for me, and puts you in a trance for an hour. If you don't like that, I'm honestly sorry for you!
I'm a simple person, I see French Disco Robots, I give a 5.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO. This is an album I have loved for so many years. They took the world by storm and laid the foundation for the electronica explosion that was to come. Around The World has the best video.
Daft Punk is partially why I'm doing this whole thing. In the wake of their retirement I realized that I didn't like much EDM aside from them and was hoping to maybe find something similar and other albums and artists along the way. Anyway, this is probably a 4 on the enjoyability scale for me. Discovery is my go to. This is still really cool and Daft Punk gets the 5 because I say so
A mix of French house, techno and house but with tunes catchier than the clap from a Parisian lady of the night. Sounds just as good listening to this by yourself as it does in a club. Fucking great. Best Tracks: Da Funk; Around The World; Alive
Ya know ya love it
15th April 2022 Listened across the weekend while in LA! Jen gone back to the UK on Saturday, we got in and out, beach on Sunday. Just amazing. Unique, out of this world, fusses funk and electro.
Legendary album full of bangers. Only feels dated because it's such an iconic album of an era. A bit long for listening straight through, but doesn't really get stale while doing so and it can be broken into songs easy. Yeah, it doesn't take much to understand why they rose to such extraordinary heights as a group.
Great album very funky first time listening to a true retro funk album
Awesome. Just a fun electronic album. Daft Punk are one of a kind.
Bom demais. Vontade de usar drogas e ir pra uma rave
All time classic French house album. So many bangers.
Classic
Amazing. I'm a bit biased, being a fan of Daft Punk, but strong album through and through.
Daft Punk's debut album is an instant classic and essential listening for fans of all genres.
Another great re-listen
Classic house album. Love it, 5 stars.
Great album.
5/5 - The beginning!
Begin van een nieuwe stijl, heel gaaf
I'm totally biased
Daft Punk are one of the GOATs. This album is straight bangers.
My favorite electronic dance album of all time. Listened to alot of electronic music from this era but most of it was more IDM headphone music. This is extremely danceable while managing to keep it moving in such a way so as to keep it interesting throughout. Remember riding a bus across town to go buy this at a store in a strip mall as a lad. More memories of playing this at impromptu dance parties at college in the dorms. Holds up.
Love this album
Wie oft habe ich die seinerzeit durchgehört? 'Revolution 909‘ macht mir immer noch Gänsehaut. Dachte zunächst, die sei nicht so gut gealtert, aber Quatsch, volle 5.
Love daft punk
Chopped full of bangers. I’m not big into this kinda music but my god I was really enjoying this one!
Love daft punk
Ouvi extensivamente esses dias porque Daft Punk is no more.
classic house
House bangers

slobberknocker of a genre mixup girded by house music. perfect debut. fav track: around the world
nice homework, bit long but still nice with the right mood
Сара није слушала. Цео дан славила 8 месеци везе Марко 4
This certainly wasn't homework to listen to. But seriously folks, Daft Punk's debut is pretty remarkable: a long yet varied electronica album with a lot of instrumentals. Top tracks: "Da Funk," "Oh Yeah," "Around the World," "Alive"
1. "Da Funk" 2. "Around the World" 3. "Fresh"
C'est un peu long mais très sympa

It’s Daft Punk and Daft Punk are amazing. Later Daft Punk are godlike. So much good on here but there are some Icarus-like EDM tracks that are rather brutal (at one point my partner called from another room and begged me to skip to the next song). So, while we may have all wanted to be Daft Punk, in the beginning even they made some mistakes. But then Around the World, Around the World….
Last few tracks go for too long
Picturing the Techno Viking dancing to each song.
First time listening to a Daft Punk, surprisingly, so I was excited to start with the debut over Discovery, first. I enjoyed the EDM pioneer album, even if I got a little bored by the end. Its the least commercial/mainstream out of their few albums and does its job.
This rocked! I'm so glad I got this one!
damn, i hadn't listened to this one since i was a teen either. altho in this case..... i think its cos i listened to it so much i got sick of it lmao if u told me that there was only one daft punk album on this list (which is already weird imo) and made me guess at which one it is, i'd probably have guessed discovery? so as is often the case im confused by the curators' decision here, cos i think i'd have said homework is probably the weakest of their first 3 studio albums. not that the music is bad at all, there's a lot of great songs on here, but for the most part they're structured for mixing, with all the drawn out building up and winding down that entails. which would work great if they released them as singles like they'd apparently intended to begin with, but as an album... maybe not so much. it weakens the structure and fucks with the flow in a way that almost gives it the feel of a compilation despite being their debut album. do you understand? anyway, my favourite this time is a coin flip between the choppy and bass heavy "oh yeah", and "burnin'", which basically turns into a 2-step garage track after the drop so it's obvious that i'd like it. "phoenix" pulls in at a close second (third?) place for similar "this is ukg to me" reasons, and "rollin' & scratchin'" and "alive" are all time club house bangers too. honestly idk if there's a single bad track on here. i think with this album, it really is just a structural problem for me. i guess this is why alive 2007 is my favourite daft punk album? it's music that calls out to be mixed.... mash that shit up !!
Pretty fonky! Nice to hear something a bit diff.
I've always thought this album was cool. And it now comes with the added bonus of fond memories from yesteryear.
Heard of daft punk but never this album. Pretty high hopes, have only heard good things. With that being said there was not a need for another electronic album. Difference with this one at least one song in is the songs are actually good and not just straight bullshit. So many layers to daftenddirekt. Sick production. Love the fade into wdpk then into revolution 909. This one is just ok. Not a lot going on with it. Classic “dance” song where it’s the same thing on loop for way too long. Sa funk is a banger. That beat is just so catchy. This isn’t a song you dance to, this is a song you nod your head along to and think about how cool it is. Don’t like phoenix as much. Much more of a more generic dance song. Fresh is pretty cool, less dancy and more electronic/great production. Followed by around the world which is an absolute classic. One of the best electronic songs out there. Rollin and scratchin is pretty sick too. Really unique sounds on this one that work really well together. Teachers is really cool. This sounds like a modern rap beat mixed with an 80s rap beat. Really cool sample. Don’t like high defiling. This is generic European house music which I don’t like. Rock and roll is better but still in the middle range for how good I like it compared to the rest of the album. Main sound is just a little annoying , but it works well so hard to fault it. Oh yeah is fine. I’d hate it if it was any longer but it works as a 2 minute bridge song. Followed by burnin which is much better. Really nice build up and subsequent beat drop. And love the soft opening to indo silver club as well. This one is a banger. Classic dance song but really good beat. I like alive a lot too. This one is so much more than a dance beat. Put any pop star of any generation over this beat with a catchy hook and it’s an amazing song. This is a lock tf in song. Great way to close off with the funk ad outro. This album is so much better than just about every dance/electronic album I’ve got so far on this list aside from you’ve come a long way baby by fat boy slim. And I think it’s better than that one too but just by a bit. This is a musical work of art, just done with electronic intsruments compared to the other which are mostly one moderately cool beat repeated for 7 mins. I get why daft punk was the only electronic group I’d heard of prior to this journey. 3.7/5 stars. Because I know this isn’t their best.
I've never really understood the daft punk hype previously, but enjoyed this record. Lots of great tunes here that definitely live up to the billing. However, there were points where I thought there was just like filler beat tracks, and this could've been cut down to a single disc that was really tight.
