It was better than I was expecting, but quickly became background music. Not for me. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ ★★★☆☆ (5/10) Total reviewed : 284 Already owned : 63 Purchased : 15 To buy : 3 Nope : 203

Carried by two weeks

This was fine as background noise. Nothing exciting or repulsive. 3/5

I appreciate the Grizzly Bear has a very unique sound. This one's a good listen.

Track 1 is a very interesting song with great guitar work. 2 is kind of an indie classic. It's a good song. 6 is quit special. 7 has a cool chorus. 8 is my favorite so far. interesting harmony and arrangement. 11 feels out of place but it's beautifully weird and messy. Ends with a nice ballad. It's a good album. My favorites are the ones I mentioned above, the rest were not bad, bad didn't do much for me. But it was a good listen throughout (second half better than first). So I'll give it a flat 3.

Not what I was expecting based on the single track but an interesting listen. It definitely echoes different prog rock bands with an interesting wistful theme.

Indie rock with jazz influences caught my ear from the first couple of seconds of the first song. Its a really good album with some excellent songs. At times it gets a bit to somber for my taste which makes me less likely to come back to it again.

I remember seeing a video in 2009 of them playing While You Wait For The Others for some radio station or something. I thought it was incredible and played it every day for weeks. I listened to their other albums that came for this one. The Knife is a great track, I can't remember many more that I liked too much. Listening now all these years later it just kind of sounds muddy. It could have been my crappy car stereo at work again, I'm not sure. The other thing I got kind of tired of was the multiple voices all in the same vocal range doing some variation of "woah" and "ooo" etc. After glazing the song that is the absolute epitome of that I find myself wondering what my problem is. Maybe I just wore it out in 2009.

Two Weeks is one of those songs I've heard a million times in my life but had no idea who or when it was from. The mystery's been solved! I've always enjoyed that feeling. As far as the album goes, it ain't half bad! A little sleepy in some parts but it's nicely built around a sound that's easy to enjoy. Probably not something I'll come back to but it's also not something I'll complain about hearing.

It wasn’t bad. 10 years ago I’d have liked it a lot more. I might listen to it again at some point, but I wasn’t blown away on the first go round

Interesting little record. The music was sometimes quite engaging, with haunting sounds, and a guitar/drum mix that grabbed me, but then the next song would lose me over being a little too ethereal. The singing also bounced back and forth between these realities. I'll circle back I'm sure, but this may be a band better consumer with a playlist of the more accessible tracks, at least for me.

A couple really nice tracks on this album. I had never heard of this band but was surprised to have heard the second track on the album. Cool music, but a bit repetitive at times, and I probably won't listen to this album again but might listen to a track or two

I'd mistakenly thought Grizzly Bear was part of Animal Collective. I couldn't get through that album, it made me angry. I'm glad I gave this a chance. I like it for the most part, definitely appreciate the ambition and the craft even though some of it's not for me. That's okay it doesn't all have to be for me. D'oh! Just noticed the youtube link took me to a bonus tracks playlist. I thought it meant the full album plus bonus tracks and I intended to stop at the end of the original album, instead all I was listening to was the bonus tracks. Starting the album now. It's much better than the bogus tracks. "Two Weeks" still sounds like it was written to be a tv commercial. The last few tracks really kinda sucked the air out of things.

I thought I’d never heard of this band until the second track - which I’ve heard heaps but not sure where? I really like the album art I enjoyed it

perfectly passable pastel floaty 'aughts indie rock, featuring one legendary song and a lot of filler. 3/5

Southern Point - 4/5 Two Weeks - 4/5 All We Ask - 3.5/5 Fine for Now - 3.5/5 Cheerleader - 3/5 Dory - 3/5 Ready, Able - 4.5/5 About Face - 3/5 Hold Still - 3.5/5 While You Wait for the Others - 3/5 I Live With You - 3/5 Foreground - 3/5 Highs were really high but the rest of the album felt like it was trying to speak to the hipster part of myself that I want to leave behind. In other words, just kind of meh all-around besides a few points. Overall: 3/5 Favorites: Southern Point, Two Weeks, Ready,Able

A bit slow for my taste. Great musicianship, but nothing moved me. Disappointed they are not a heavy as thoer name suggests

This era of indie rock had an absolute chokehold on people and I have no idea why. What is here that is necessary before I die? Nothing. It's mid, unremarkable, and like every other indie rock back album of this era on this list. The top paragraph of their Wikipedia references being in the book, its been a hallmark of an album undeserving of the list and with no other remarkable accomplishment or legacy that's been forgotten to time. It's fine, I didn't hate it, its not britpop, but let's be real here.

A mix of jazzy tones and rock

I remember having tickets to see these guys in Vancouver for this album tour. Needless to say I didn't make it. It was a good precursor to the Hipster overabundance of "stomp stomp clap" movement that tried to make Folk a good time (it never is).

Beautifully produced with clever arrangements but to my ears a bit empty and dull. That said anyone else worried about the guy who was looking forward to a nostalgia hit from his law school days soundtracked by this album only to find it "whiny" and "wussbag shit"? I'm picturing someone who has had his gentle youthful soul crushed by 15 years of corporate law and now he pumps iron to macho rawk at the weekend to blast the pain away.

It was good.

Enjoyed more than I expected! Really cool sounds and a well put together album

I've never heard of Grizzly Bear before. From what I gather, they're an indie psychedelic folk group out of Brooklyn, New York, initially started as a solo project by keyboardist Edward Droste before expanding into a full band. For their third studio record, Veckatimest, they went for a more refined sound, incorporating elements of chamber pop while also looking to be more straightforward in their impressionist lyrics. Between the prominent vocal harmonies, breezy guitar strumming, and intricate use of strings and woodwinds, the Pet Sounds-era Beach Boys influence is apparent. They're certainly more laid-back and schmaltzy in the presentation, as Droste and Daniel Rossen exchanged lead vocal duties, both offering musings on faltering relationships, self-control, and the passage of time. I can see the appeal as they opted for more ethereal textures, which can work on a cut like "Dory", and those vocal harmonies were engaging. Not to mention some strong singles like "Two Weeks" and "While You Wait for Others" helped set the overall poppier tone, and the album is at least bookended reasonably well. Yet, I found this album lacking in solid hooks or grooves. It's not as if the band was playing badly, but most of these compositions don't quite coalesce or crescendo into something more grandiose, especially if the lyrics are going to be largely observational without making any bigger statement. Also, for as much as they leaned into the chamber pop direction, this album could have benefited from more excessive instrumentation to build up the atmospherics. I think back to Fleet Foxes' self-titled record on my album journey, and that album boasted more ambience, song structure, and cohesive messaging. I wanted to like Veckatimest more, cause again I can see the appeal for Grizzly Bear. I don't know if this album will grow on me, and I'm not sure I have as much incentive to revisit.

If the first time I heard this was in 2009, I would’ve been completely obsessed. It’s still enjoyable, but I feel like I’ve heard all of these songs before although I’ve never listened to this band.

It's there, I guess. I can see how this inspired a lot of the genre, but ultimately did not move me.

Sort of fits into the long list of perfectly acceptable indie slop that doesn’t move the needle one way or the other. It’s perfectly nice. Doesn’t offend, doesn’t inspire.

Shades of Fleet Foxes, Vampire Weekend and nods to Jeff Buckley. So far, so early 21st century Brooklyn off kilter hipster indie darling music. I feel like I should like this more than I do. Two weeks is obviously used in a million ads as it feels like I know it way more than the rest of the album which is kind of forgettable to me. 3 out of 5 stars

00’s Indie began with bands old genres and Strokesifying them in a modern studio. That was followed by a hipster period of earnest Americans playing with harmony. Then towards the middle teens the Anglo-Celtic islands wrestled control of the indie zeitgeist back with prog post punk and indie went through its best period since the 90s. Grizzly Bear belongs to the hipster beardo era. This lp is one of the best from that time but in 2026 it suffers from being the old fashioned without being retro. Give it a few years and a critical reappraisal it may well belong on this list, but at the moment it’s a bit ordinary. Nice. Carefully constructed. Pleasant background music.

Favorite songs: Two Weeks, Cheerleader, Ready Able, While You Wait for Others

Lush arrangements, mostly mellow vocals and tunes. Not really sure how to categorize this. I generally like it. It meanders all over the place but feels cohesive.

I believe this is the first time I have heard of this artist and album. Now that I have heard it, I can confirm it is an album, and it was by this artist.

Fine for Now, Cheerleader están buenas, el final del álbum me sorprendió mucho como en esas do ultimas canciones se escuchaban distinto pero las dos me transmitían esos aires de despedida.

This challenge has me slowly whittling down the type of indie music that I actually like. Throw "folk" and "psychedelic" descriptors in there and I think it's for me.

Sonaba bien, aunque no pude prestar mucha atención

“Two Weeks” will forever be an iconic Millennial indie track. The lead singer was quite active on Instagram during its heyday and engaged regularly with the community on there. Really felt like simpler times.

Some funny and creative moments here and there, but I doubt I will listen to it again.

The singles are good. The rest is too noodly

Cool... different...but this one didn't quite get me there. 3

Ein Indie-Rock Album mit interessanten Melodien. Die Stimmung ist angenehm. 3/5

time vest gadget go

Decent listen.

I had listened to two weeks before and loved it, but never really checked out the whole album. It was a good listen.

I do like 2010s indie folk rock pop stuff and this was a nice album it just felt kinda unremarkable

Different but enjoyable!

Had its moments but them became extremely disjointed in many places.

Middle of the road

First listen

No tää nyt men taas pelkäks soimaamiseks siihen nähen että ol kuitenkin lähellä nelkkua.

Tough to know how I feel about this one. There are a few fantastic tracks on here but also a lot that ends up feeling kitschy or corny to me. Favorite Songs: “Ready, Able”, “I Live With You”, “Foreground” Least Favorite Song: “Two Weeks” Low 3.

Sort of in the middle on this. I like the opening track in particular and think the entire album has this nice Indie and Americana flair to it. Kind of sounds like America and Crosby, Stills & Nash without the vocal harmonies. It doesn't really outdo it's similar artists though and it does get to be a bit boring at times. Didn't really grab me but it was good enough.

Par gode her. Datt av underveis.

This is fine. Nothing extraordinary.

Yeah i liked the big songs i just thought some were really uninspired

Great album, beautiful piece of work. That being said, get thee off this list. Nothing groundbreaking.

Two Weeks masterpiece but otherwise boring.

This was interesting. I didn't like it at first, but then the songs felt like they got better/more musical, or something? I listened to it all and then listened to it all again, and by the midpoint of that process, I really kinda enjoyed it, but then by the end of the second listen I was kinda sick of their sound. Overall, it was good, but not great. Three stars.

Started strong, later half of album wasn't as good

I really wanted to like this album, because the instrumentals are very beautiful, but the vocalist sounds so bored and it made me so bored Fav song: Cheerleader, While you wait for the others

At first, the album sounded quite interesting. But as it went on, it became increasingly boring. I will also forget this album much faster than it took me to listen to it. 3/5

I've listened to this probably 5-6 times at various points, and still can't quite land on how I feel about it. Feels like an existential crisis (yes, I take this project seriously!). You'd think my penchant for Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes, and Bon Iver would put this squarely in my 'love it' category. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I'm annoyed or just bored. It gets to the last track and where I thought that I didn't like the 2nd half of the album, I realize I've been enjoying the concept nature of the last several songs. I'm good with the first half. Maybe it's just Dory that sucks the life out of me. This feels squarely in the 3.5 rating range. A little better than middle of the road, but 4 feels a bit high. I guess with all the wringing of hands I've been doing about this album, I'm going to leave it at a 3 and be done with it for a while.

Rätt trevligt men ospännande.

Bit boring, too long, but the good moments are good. Low 3.

Nice quiet album, didn't really grab me but this is a good representative of circa 2010 indie rock 3.3

Liked Two Weeks the most - think it’s their most popular song! I really enjoyed their Drums, maybe when I listen to more things and albums it will give me a better sense of what genre they fall into. Apparently they are Psych, Folk, Classical and Jazz? I do relate their music with their album cover’s neon, green, pink and brown; the colours mix in rhythms of their music and gives that psych atmosphere for sure.

This album feels very of the time but not in a bad way for me. It has an overall smooth and relaxing vibe.

Kinda like father John misty. I liked

6/10… indie rock / baroque pop / *2009

Interessante obra indie-rock. 3 estrelas

Hmmmmmm. The first 5 songs are good. The rest are not.

Pretty good but didn't have much of an impact on me

Pretty but wasn’t feeling it

A sleepy, but beautiful album.

I was loving the first couple of tracks and wondering why I hadn't really connected with this album when it was released, but my interest waned as the album progressed.

I’ve heard songs from Grizzly Bear before. They’re a bit confusing to me. For every song I really dig there’s at least two I find to be supremely boring. Same with this album. 3/5

3.0 - Ok

Two weeks, what a throwback! I've heard this song before but not the rest of this album. This genre/band is right up my alley, but I also don't know why this is here. A lot of this is very mellow and contemplative, the opposite of Two Weeks. It was fine, 3* for nostalgia. Highlights: all we ask, two weeks

This was enjoyable and considerably better than I was anticipating. When bands are labeled as "Indie Rock" I really don't know what to expect.

Better than I expected it to be. It's a serious contender for inclusion on the Garden State Soundtrack Vol. 2.

Was surprised to recognize a track of this album ("Two Weeks") as Grizzly Bear has never been anywhere near my radar. A decent album of good indie tunes, though nothing particularly exceptional. fav tracks: Two Weeks

Fine? Kind of sparkly 2010s sounds especially at the beginning

I'm sure the song structures and production is worth praise but the music just didn't affect me. Pretty inoffensive. 2.5/5. Raising to 3.

I love the interesting sounds of this album, an relaxing listening 3/5

Mixed. Some great tracks , some less so

Enjoy the vocal and the harmonies. The instruments do their part but I’m missing the hook to keep me coming back. 3/5

Rating: 6/10 Nice collection of interesting folk tunes from this era of pitchfork-core indie music, a really solid example of this iteration of the genre. Check out Grizzly Bear member Daniel Rossen’s album from 2022 “You Belong There” it’s cool stuff

Boring on the first listen, a bit better on the second. 6 not lizards out of 10 lizard wizards

didn’t think it was going to be THAT bland

I’m flummoxed how a band can deliver 12 songs that on the surface are pretty good…yet contain not a single hook or memorable chorus. I’m sure at the time of release this was considered unique and new, and the production here is admirable as there are a lot of layers, etc. But why bands think it’s hipster cool to record drums and guitars on every single song as if they’re down the hall and underwater I’ll never know. A pleasant chill listen that was enjoyable enough at the time, but I can’t remember much about.

It’s been a while since I’ve listened to this and honestly I remember it differently. Def sleepier than I recall, maybe because Two Weeks is the standout and fairly different than the rest of the album. I like it, but probably won’t circle back soon

I liked it at parts and others it felt like background noise. Overall good listen but didn’t necessarily stand out other than a couple singles that were familiar. 2.75

That classic 2000s indie rock sound... good times.

Solid if unspectacular. 3.2

Decent sound. A little soft, not crazy original, but pleasant enough.

Kudos to Grizzly Bear for recording themselves singing and playing original compositions, then releasing said recordings as an album called Veckatimest. My own feeling on the album is that is between a two and three. But I appreciate the effort so a three it is.

3.5 stars

Having only hear 2 weeks, the rest of the album was a refresher. A bit college rock for me, but good indie sound

This is my personal pinnacle of millennial indie pop. I remember listening to this when I was 15 on a trip to Greece, so I‘m always going to be transported back to that time when I listen to this. It‘s weirdly beautiful, weirdly somber, it just works.

There is a very specific sound that signals an indie band has begun to believe its own press: layered harmonies like an artisanal insulation material, cryptic song titles that double as crossword clues, and an unwavering commitment to vibes over pulse. Veckatimest, Grizzly Bear’s 2009 sacred cow, doesn’t flirt with that line—it builds a well-funded experimental eco-village on top of it, complete with reverb-powered wind turbines. To be clear: this album is not bad in the traditional sense. It is exquisitely crafted, like a handmade canoe you admire but would rather drown than paddle in. The problem is not skill, but sanctimony. Veckatimest doesn’t ask for your attention, it assumes it. It opens its arms for a hug, but really it’s checking the fit on your handcrafted linen shirt. “Southern Point” gallops in like it’s been chasing significance for miles, only to collapse under the realization that momentum is not a substitute for destination. “Two Weeks,” the album’s impossible-to-avoid centerpiece, is all honeyed Beach Boys harmonies and sun-dappled optimism—until you notice there is nothing beneath the surface. It’s the sugar rush of enlightenment, and the crash is brutal. It tries to be a rapture; it ends up a screensaver. The production, adored by people who describe music as textural, is both the album’s selling point and its undoing. Everything is so lovingly buffed, so spacious, so organic in the Whole Foods sense, that imperfections—which might have served as proof of life—never stand a chance of surviving the mix. The ear begins to slide off the songs like a boot on black ice. Lyrically, we get the usual offerings from the indie oracle: nature metaphors, existential yearnings, and an exhausting amount of capital-F Feelings. Daniel Rossen sings as if revelation is always one bridge away, but arriving at truth feels less like an epiphany and more like circling a cul-de-sac of polished ambiguities. Lines land not like punches but like fortune cookies written in cursive. “Ready, Able” makes a decent argument for pastoral hypnosis as an art form, and “Foreground” comes close to emotional resonance, but both suffer from Veckatimest’s chief sin: it is allergic to grounding. The album floats, intentionally, but forgets that gravity exists for a reason. Weightlessness alone is not transcendence. Sometimes it’s just drifting. This is an album that pairs perfectly with three things: 1. Installing unscented soy candles. 2. Adjusting your glasses thoughtfully while gazing at a lake. 3. Convincing yourself this is better than it actually is. If you’ve ever wanted music that sounds like the moment an artisanal coffee shop first discovers feelings, Veckatimest is your scripture. If you want songs that actually connect, compel, or—god forbid—hit, you’ll need to look somewhere people occasionally scuff their shoes.

It almost hit for me, but never quite got there.

It grabbed my interest early on, but couldn’t hold it.

I really enjoyed my grizzly bear day!! UTA client!!!

I thought I might enjoy this more. It was just kind of Meh.

Somewhat against the odds, this was winning me over to begin with. Yes, the first few tracks are a type of warbly indie that in most circumstances I'd turn my nose up at, but there was enough weirdness, detachment and a trippy, psychedelic feel to them, combined with some compelling songwriting to ensure that they weren't just pretentious, aimless rubbish. The longer the album went on, however, it disappeared further up its own arse in such a frustrating way, largely becoming background music until a brief second wind towards its latter third. There's just about enough going on here for the remote possibility that I'd revisit at some stage, but I'm not entirely sure when I'd take it upon myself to.

I appreciate albums with a relaxed, laid-back vibe, and this fits the bill. Not listened to it for years, but have again and ....it's OK. I still enjoyed bits, still tempted to skip some bits, and this album was never destined to set the music world alight. But, a solid 3.5 star album.

This was a weird one. First of all, I don't know why, but initially I thought this was an album by PANDA Bear. And I was like "alright, let's go!", and then "this doesn't sound like Panda Bear at all". So, I was disappointed and thought it's kinda boring. But then I decided to give it another try in a more favorable environment. And it turned out I like it! It's an acquired taste, but there some really nice music in there.

I wanted to like this so much more. I thought it would require repeat listens to unpack and it probably does, but after a good few goes, I'm still feeling a bit underwhelmed by it. The first few tracks are good and there are nice pockets of music scattered throughout but overall it doesn't hold my attention for enough of its runtime to be something I'm really excited to keep coming back to.

Good album. Harmonys are nice.

Too nice. Like, the children of classical musicians creating a Wes Anderson soundtrack or the writing prompt was "NPR Tiny Desk concert, Massachusetts, 2005." It's not all bad, kinda sleepy and pretentious. Great execution and interesting production for the most part. Not usually my style choice, a bit much like a Modest Mouse or Arcade Fire wannabe but with less edge. Stangely appealing though. Feeling generous, not as good as a lot of albums I gave 3 stars to, but better than most two-star listens. 🤷‍♂️

Not my style of music. Too slow for my taste. Liked the first 2 songs but it got dragging after that. Average.

Alright eerie stuff, just ok

It was fine. Turns out there was one song I know. Non offensive indy music

I know it's liked decently well in its pretty-indie-stuff sort of sphere but the sound just overall felt sort of bland to me except for maybe Two Weeks and some other tracks to a lesser extent, but I know there's people out there who think Arcade Fire isn't exciting too so that's just how different opinions can be This popcorn didn't pop

Yeah, I remember this group. Hard to believe this album is 16 years old.

Surprised to recognise one of the songs, quite a good album

There were a few interesting tracks but overall a bit bland

What makes this hipster music so special? 3.

This is unremarkable but fine. Personal enjoyment: 3/5 Relevance to this list: 2/5

I liked this quite a bit. Considered 4 Stars. Might revise later.

Enjoyable enough folk rock with some interesting instrumentation. Not exactly sure why it made this list.

Meticulously produced, sonically detailed, and expansive, ‘Veckatimest’ possesses a distinctly cinematic quality. However, I’m torn on whether it’s a genuinely interesting album or just plain boring. Some moments are breathtakingly beautiful, while others are achingly dull. YMMV.

Cool album, like the experimentation with different sounds and instruments. Not something I'd listen to regularly but I'm glad I did. 3.4

While I've never been the biggest fan of indie music, this is one of the more unique sounding indie records I've heard. It didn't do anything to make me more or less of a fan of the genre, but I enjoyed my listen.

Wow, an album I've actually listened to before! Somehow still mixed it up with Deerhunter. I think it's funny that even the 5 Star reviews for this album are like, "I'm shocked to find this here!" I used to be a huge indiehead but I think now it just makes me cringe a bit. That being said, definitely not bad.

This is so boring. But I did it. I listened to the whole thing. I can’t believe this was a top 10 record in the us. There is not a heck of a lot here. Forgettable melodies, muddy production, and sounds like a soundtrack for a crappy indie movie.

It's interesting.. it has a very chill vibe, which is something I'm a fan off. I did enjoy some songs a lot like : Southern point,All we ask Whilst I completely disliked others Would I listen to the whole album again? Probably not tbh, but these 2 songs were added to one of my collections so that's nice!

SORRY han müsse s mistborn-hörbuech fertig lose southern point fangt lustig ah und isch ener chaotisch, no cool aber s passiertmer chli z vill TWO WEEKS KENNTMER und es isch au seehr cool mitem gsang! die mehrstimmige melodie ziehnd sich chli durs album, findi na cool ready, able gfalltmer na, die ruhig gutarre und hindergrundgsäng ergebet en coole klangteppich suscht findis ebe eneeer seicht ja hold still chli öppis fürd musigkritiker:inne seufz, omg was füres cools wort isch eig seufz?? aber jo SEUFZ I live with you NERVIG und INTELLEKTUELL stabils 3. han cool gfunde was mached aber abgseh vo two weeks und ready, able isch echt nüt ussegstoche

Started out optimistically and then slowly turned into a dark spiral. Its a little too dark for me. Southern Point is the best song. It was fantastic. Sadly, rest of the album could not keep up this standard

This is the sort of band I want to this challenge to bring me to, the sort of a band I vaguely know and seem interesting, and in many ways, Grizzly Bear should be up my street. Two Weeks is good and I instantly recognised it when it came on, but for too much of this album, it just wasn’t really landing with me. I’d probably give it 2 stars but it picked up towards the end and the production was interesting.

3 (5/10)maybe if chilling out with a buzz of some kind. One song is on my playlist and many I skipped over in the car. ———————————— My non-musician scoring system. 5 - Love it. Would play anytime, buy, see live… 4 - Good music. 3 - Average playlist. Depends on time and setting. 2 - I can’t listen to entire songs…skipped ahead on all of them 1 - No.

Already had one song (Two Weeks) saved from this album but did not know the rest! I enjoyed Foreground for it's eerie atmosphere. Overall enjoyed it 5/10

Two Weeks and Ready, Able outshine the bulk of this. But it's a high 3/5 fs

Veckatimest makes you question the whole “listen once a day” thing. It’s not immediately rewarding. Everything floats, nothing lands. Maybe it’s one of those albums that rewards patience.. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions - Two Weeks - Ready,Able - Foreground

Indie goodness

Heater honestly, would be great for a misty morning with some rain falling is how I would describe it. Lots of unique sounds and noises in here, and I really fuck with the art and aesthetic of this album. Favorite track is probably two-weeks. Really like the drums on that track.

I think it’s my first experience with heavy mellow. It was just okay, and forgettable.

It's interesting stuff, but doesn't hook me on the first listen. Seems like they're good at what they do, though. 3.5*, maybe?

Pleasant music that sounds very much of its era. In truth, all of these tracks could stand to lose 2 minutes. Probably a four-star album if it was 36 minutes rather than 52. 2.5/5.0: Mixed

Very good indeed. Enjoyed this one enough to think about buying it, so that’s something!

Sounds like ankle socks. Not bad but I’d rather listen to Vampire Weekend.

There's a lot of music from 2009 that sounds like this, and if I'd heard it at the time I might've been really into it.

This is something I probably would've loved if I heard it when it first came out. It's a good version of This Type Of Music, but my tastes have shifted in the past 15 years; I enjoyed my first listen but didn't especially want to listen again.

no kuuli musig, het schöni sache debi. aber au nöd so krass, dasses mir mega in erinnerig bliebe isch oder dasis jetz umbedingt nomal wür lose.

Though I own this album, I found it quite plain. A few good tracks but nothing stood out

Interesting

Taba bonito

First 15 seconds, a jazz-country mix?? Interesting.. Otherwise it seems to be mid-tempo folk-indie. Bit of light garage psychedelia in Cheerleader Not for me really. Could use some more upbeat moments. Best track - Southern Point, Fine For Now 3 stars

A decent album with a few solid songs. There were a couple I wasn’t a big fan of, and without a through story that I noticed, they felt like they didn’t fit.

It is ok, happy to have it on the background. Two Weeks, one of those songs you hear on adverts and TV shows and you only find out who it is by from this.

I really liked a few songs on the album. It deserves a closer listen than I gave it because I didn't even take note of the songs that I really liked. However, the fact that there were moments that grabbed me from my work and sounded awesome was cool.

Pretty solid indie folk, however, I expected a bit more with how much I have heard about it. Maybe it will grow on me. 7/10

Not listened

This album really didn't stick with me. Its ok, but nothing really memoreable.

A wonderful, layered album. I knew the singles and had heard the fuss but now I get it. There’s a lot to love in here.

This is OK, more millennial core

This is the kind of album that you can just put on in the back ground and it won't offend you or your guests. It was good not great, but an alright in the middle kind of thing.

Back when hipsters added strings to everything. This is fine but otherwise unmemorable mid aughts indie.

I mean it's fine, I like me some Indy rock from this era but it's just the reheated nachos of those who came before them. 6/10

Surprised at how many musical theater moments there are in this album: not what I think about when I think Grizzly Bear

Two Weeks is a great song. The rest of the album was sort of ethereal indie rock. Not really my thing, but it was okay I guess.

2000s folky indie rock that draws from the same well as Fleet Foxes and ends up with similar results, although with more rustic, echo-heavy production. The songs here are adventurous, with complex structures and interesting chords. Not every song hits the mark though, as some are a little too abstract. In addition, the aforementioned production choices unfortunately make the album sound a bit amateurish at times.

At first, the band’s whole vibe made me think their music could be very interesting, partly thanks to those shifts in intensity (like in Fine for Now). But pretty quickly, the backing vocals turned into a total buzzkill. They add nothing, except, unfortunately, a Disney-like touch that’s a dealbreaker for me. Overall, it’s not downright bad, but it just doesn’t win me over stince most songs fall flat. Joni Mitchell didn’t win me over so I’ve decided to give Grizzly bear another try, and I finally enjoyed their music more this time. I now get their 60s influence and I even feel a QOTSA’s vibe. I finally give them 3 stars.

pretty nice

J'hésite entre un 3 et un 4. Je pense que ça mérite la réécoute.

I only knew Two Weeks from this album. I did like it more than I thought I would. A lot more genre range than I anticipated.

Average. Didn’t dislike it but probably wouldn’t seek out their music again either.

I enjoyed Grizzly Bear at the time and i still enjoy now. I think time hasnt been kind to the twee levels of this but you cant deny it is of its time and quite good without being generational.

I love 2010’s indie

Indie rock gets old for me quickly. But I didn't hate it.

Just meh. I don’t think there’s anything profoundly wrong with it but there’s nothing particularly good about it either. Recognised Two Weeks that has clearly had plenty of airtime and is objectively a good single, and wonder if it got in on the back of that song, the rest was quite forgettable. Feels wrong giving this the same rating as Abbey Road but we live in a strange world.

I love two weeks... but thats about it

it’s fine! i liked it but didn’t stick out after it ended

Ok, I gave this one a few listens. The first couple listens didn’t do much for me. It seemed like a perfectly good indie rock record with technically great playing and songwriting, but something just wasn’t clicking. However, I could tell there was something there and there wasn’t anything I disliked about it, so I threw it on a couple more times throughout the day and by the end of the day I was really quite enjoying it. It’s full of dense and complicated arrangements that still somehow come across very dreamy and chill. You can tell a lot of time went into the production of this album.

already listened to it. not a sound for me but i appreciate the artistry and uniqueness

Yeah, not bad at all. 3.5 stars

Maybe I'll listen to this album again. It has a really good atmosphere and very creative arrangements.

It’s fine, but one of the 1001 best albums of all time? No chance.

Listen to two weeks already, some songs only okay

Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear sounded like an indie and more modern Genesis or Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. I would've thought that to be a bad combination, but I found myself enjoying its uniqueness. It's dreamy and morose but can have a lively beat. The entire album flows well, though I could argue that the album gelled too well together, to the point of not knowing where it starts or ends. Still, I found myself mesmerized.

Nice vibes

Really loved the start and closing of the album, felt the middle dragged it down

Pretty uninteresting tbh. The songs are nice to listen to but not much substance. Southern Point and Two Weeks are amazing songs tho especially Two Weeks 7/10 Favourite: Two Weeks Least Favourite: Dory

dont remember much, feel asleep

Didn’t expect much from this one, but it is actually a good album. Maybe a little slow for me is some parts but it has its moments, like Ready, Able for example. I’d like to add that you can tell that this album was released in 2009

Alright.

Not unpleasant to listen to, but a bit too twee for much revisiting.

I like the feel of this album, but after 2 listens it simply did not stick with me. Probably a 2.5 if I'm honest.

Probably hit a lot harder in 2009. Vampire Weekend better anyways.

already dated

Two Weeks is a banger, but the rest is…boring?

No, not for me.

ed DROSTE 💜 and i wish i could end it there! unfortunately, this journey has done a number on my nostalgia goggles. grizzly bear is peak entry level indie for me - i remember sitting on the school bus with my temple pressed against the glass window, listening to two weeks and envisioning my future hipster endeavours. this album meanders a LOT. long, winding, same-y tracks. not necessarily bad, but not super engaging as a listener. i did the dishes while listening to this album. it felt apt.

Not bad, a little wistful and melancholy.

Okay but not that interesting to me

i like

Takes me back.

Good video

Disappointed by this one sadly. I thought that with it being from my favourite genre and included on this list, it would be a dead cert that I would really enjoy it. Also with being familiar with Two Weeks prior to listening and really loving that song - I was hoping for some hidden gems and deep cuts on the rest of the album but it just fell flat. Rest of the songs were meh. Had to skip one song as towards the end it was just overstimulating noise. What a shame 2.5/5

3 sterne

Not a fan of this one. All the songs sound like one big song, just split up. The backing tracks are pretty colourful but other than that, lots of the album is just a blur to me.

Couple good songs

interessante..

was kinda bored in the beginning. very comfortable listening. enjoyable harmonies. liked «dory», «about face», «hold still», «i live with you» and «foreground». definitely preferred the latter half of the album. will probably listen again.

I gave it a listen and a half. I do still like two weeks, but I think that’s because I’ve heard it so much. The atmosphere of the album is well established but I think not particularly for me. It does get nicely ethereal, though, well accomplished via chorals and pan flute. None of the songs seem to capture the same height as two weeks. like two weeks is the top of a mountain, the rest are definitely in the forest, but not at the same level.

Positives: This is a beautiful sounding album. The production is amazing. The artist wears their influences on their sleeve, form The Beach Boys, to America (The album opener sounded like a song of theirs. It was also the song I liked the most), to David Bowie. Negatives: This kind of music doesn't work for me, unfortunately. I find it very boring. It's a thing of personal taste. Were I into this kind of indie/folk rock music it would probably be a 5 star album. Overall, I give it 3 stars. Though it isn't for me, every single song on this album had at least a snippet of music that I was amazed by, though as a whole most of the songs were very forgettable.

Some good highlights but also some parts that just wander along.

In the millennial cannon, locked in their deep. This was also the only song that any creative director used for their reel for a bit. What a chokehold this song/album had.

was okay, a few well known songs

Nice sounding

Had much higher hopes for this one. Did not really live up to expectations though it wasnt bad at all just not amazing.

I have never heard of this band before and it was nice. Good tunes and vocals. But (pet peeve) it sounded a bit samey to me. Couldn't distinguish after listening to it one song from t'other.

Didn't really get this. Feels a bit like an album added so a new edition has new records... then probably dropped later. I'm generous with my rating here, it's not objectively bad, just really a stretch to say everyone needs to hear this record.

a few good songs, could be shorter

3.5 “Two Weeks” is an all time nostalgic banger. Weirdly enough, not a ton of the rest of the album sounds like that? There’s a couple other songs that are sonically akin to it, but most of the time they’re kinda doing a CSNY riff, which was out of no where to me, who only knew the band bc of “Two Weeks.” Eventually I got on its wavelength but I’m still not sure how the “Two Weeks” band and the CSNY riffers are the same band.

I feel like I should like this more, but it just didn't really resonate with me. I tried. I enjoyed the beginning, but it didn't need to be an hour. Mainly, there was just something flat and emotionless that didn't seem to fit. I'm not sure.

Oh indie music, how I missed listening to you in a group of people wearing the tightest pants possible.

immediately hooked with the intro of the first track. really interesting, unique sound, i haven't heard anything similar to it before. This second song is really popular but i don't think i've heard it before. very very 2009 it reminds me of that one app with all the cartoon men that make different noises that make beats ykwim. it actually sounds identical wait this may be the same guy/s. outro of fine for now was insanely good im gonna bust a nut and/ or ascend to heaven. the entire vibe of the album makes me really uncomfortable in a comforting kind of way. like a grandfather of jack stauber's pop food, ya dig? overall, a really cool listening experience. i do feel like it's one of those albums you just have to listen to chronologically, cuz some tracks are pretty weak standalone. i would give it a 4 if not for this. probably would listen again. good for studying. absolutely gorgeous closing track.

eclectic. indie. ok

Dreamy and pleasant for the most part. But it tends to lose focus at times. Album 42/1001

Difficult one to rate, some enjoyable stuff and some of the most bland music I’ve heard. Very airy sound, decent dinner party background music.

Started off strong then each song got less engaging.

Grizzly Bear is what happens when Crosby Stills Nash and Young join forces to write songs with Steely Dan that are performed by the Flaming Lips. The sound is not as good as those bands, but not bad — it’s highly creative and melodic, but lacks any hooks. A three for now, but could be a four if I became more familiar with the music.

Some great moments, but some lulls as well. And it’s a long one!

"Veckatimest" is an album characterized by its intricate and layered compositions, often using a string quartet approach and choral-like vocal arrangements. Grizzly Bear appears to intentionally fill every minute moment of this album with a sound or musical accent, maintaining a relentless pace until halfway through the album, where they allow "Dory" to take the album's first breath. The songs do not follow traditional pop structures, the album begins with "Southern Pont," a somewhat disorienting psychedelic acoustic guitar piece that establishes the album's overall tempo. Notable tracks include "Two Weeks," "While You Wait For The Others," and the nearly operatic "I Will Live For You." The album concludes with "Foreground," a softer, gentler piece that explores striving to escape the mundane aspects of life, which likely reflects the overarching sound and theme of the album. This is a grand album, meticulously crafted and sonically diverse, yet it presents a challenge for listeners to fully grasp its rhythm and grooves in a single listen, potentially leading some to pass on a second try.

I just don't know. Maybe it's bad timing, but I was very bored with this album. It should be right up my alley, but it lacks the magic of others in its genre.

This album is a vibe. Very "early 2000s" in the ethereal folk/rock realm, but perhaps a more tasteful offering amongst the reams of drek.

Too sad

Eeeeh correct

Cool and fun album

Not particularly memorable for me.

Like 2-3 good songs

I’d like to know the bands ethos and intent with making this album. Because I think it’s great background indie music, meant to sit out of focus or accompany another activity. Nothing offensive, few moments where they break into a sound thats more loud or focused. Those moments are my highlights! “Two Weeks” is an Arcade-Fire-style classic. The last minute of “I Live With You” gets exciting. And “Foreground” is very aptly named, as it’s more captivating of the listeners attention than most songs on here. Put this on as you go for a long PNW drive / 5

Most Indie music that came out after the turn of the century really doesn't do much for me, and this album has not changed my opinion. Once Indie became a genre instead of just being a label for independent artists, I really lost interest. None of it is bad, but it all just sounds the same now and I just find it really boring for the most part. Every once in a while this album has a unique/interesting part, but a lot of this album ends up feeling the same especially after 8th or 9th track. I think it is the production that is really throwing me off here too. It seems a little over produced, like the underlying songs are good/fine, but the production on the more upbeat songs just makes it sound like generic radio music. Mid 3.

Man this album was EVERYWHERE for a hot minute in 2009. “Two Weeks” was a big hit for good reason and is the only thing saving this mostly boring indie album from being a 2 star special. Literally nothing else made an impression on me.

Unfortunately i hear a lot of bands who sound like this nowadays so I dont think they really belong here. Still I like this sound so I had fun

Two Weeks is an absolute banger to this day, the rest has kinda fallen off for me over the years though. Still a fairly solid 3.5 overall, just not all that special as it seemed to me in 09 lol

A little too mid tempo sameness for me. I didn’t hate it - would be good background music but just wasn’t memorable. Eight hours latter and really don’t remember any of the songs.

Some very good parts.

I really liked Two Weeks, but I knew that song before listening to the full album. The rest of it didn’t capture me and was alright.

Alright indie/ alternative rock. Biggest take away was hearing original song I knew was samples elsewhere but never looked into before (so nothing stood out significantly)

This started really well, very maccabees-esque but seemed to tail off. Potential to score higher or lower on a relisten tbh

6. Nothing stuck with me. Even then I've no complaints throughout my listen.

Took me a while to get into but I wouldn't turn it off if i heard it on the radio

The judge isnt out yet for me, need more listens to give it a fair judgement, its a nice chilly album.

Oh to be a bearded guy in 2008 working at a nonprofit safe from the economic recession being sensative at the lolapalooza

Meh This was so boring. Nice enough songs but an album worth was too much. Recognised 2 songs but probably wouldn't listen again 3 ⭐️

I've heard of Grizzly Bear but have never listened to them. Not sure what I was expecting. Mostly inoffensive background music with some bursts of energy. Liked the vocals. Favorites: Two Weeks, Fine For Now Would I listen to it again: No

Strong start with Southern Point, Two Weeks, and All We Ask. But drops off in the middle for me. While You Wait for the Others is a highlight.

Heard “two weeks” a million times, so it was cool to hear the rest of the album. Not bad!

A few tunes on here were good (Two Weeks, Southern Point), but the rest was sort of meh. Not offensive, but not really memorable either. 3/5

I liked some songs a lot, but overall didn't love this one as a whole album. Standout Track: - Two Weeks

Only Two Weeks really stood out.

Great songs and captivating arrangements. Unique sound that defies categorization. Plenty of drama and emotion within the music. Definitely can get lost in the complexity of the music which did push me away in the first couple of listens and it does bog down under it's own weight of complex rhythms and unusual chord changes in the middle. Perhaps a littl too long for its own good. But if you wade through the denseness of the arrangements I think you'll find worthwhile songs and music within. If you're a fan of Rufus Wainwright I think you'll like this record. 3.5 stars

Pretty good all things considered. A little rough around the edges for my taste but not bad. 3/5

Boring

Pretty cool

Feels like arcade fire on an off day

A few songs very good, the rest below average for me.

The darlings of SiriusXMU. Never listened to a full album from them and I didn't hate it. Mellow and jangly at the same time. Some nice atmosphere if you're into some semi-psyche indie. I thought it was good enough -- but not what I'd schedule my listening around. Unexpected bangers: Dory, About Face, Fine for Now

Pretty cozy acoustic music.

I liked the parts that sounded like CSNY and the Beach Boys. The rest just sounded like any other mid 2000s band with an animal in the name (Band of Horses, Trampled by Turtles, etc). 3/5

Perfectly adequately background music

This is pretty interesting. I can't say I loved it, but it was really good.

It was ok

This is the type of thing I could throw on as background music while I was doing something else. It was different and I kind of enjoyed it and get the feeling that this might grow on me a bit if I were to listen to it more.

Doesn't do anything wrong, but does it do anything right?

Overall: 5/10 Not bad, but not great. This is music you put on to clean up after you've hosted a party. I feel like so many indie bands sounded just like this at the time and I blame Arcade Fire (who I actually really like). Fav Song: Two Weeks Least Fav Song: Dory

I haven't listened to Grizzly Bear since the mid 2000s and they are pretty good band. I loved the song "While you Wait for the Others" and of course their hit is a good tune. Sometimes it dips into this land of improv jazz, discordant chords that I think ends up sounding all the same. A fine album to have on while reading a book or having dinner.

There are moments of real genius, 1st half is pretty strong. But I kept thinking just how much better this album would be if it were like 15-20 minutes shorter. The length and lack of anything matching some of the stuff of the first half started wearing on me

Jutro zapomnę, że ten album istnieje. Słuchałem go dwa razy, nie pamiętam nic.

Pleasant surprise, wasn't aware of this album full of good indie ditties.

Southern Point 3.3 Two Weeks 3.8 All We Ask 3.4 Fine for Now 3.6 Cheerleader 3.4 Dory 3.1 Ready, Able 3 About Face 3.2 Hold Still 3 While You Wait for the Others 3.3 I Live with You 3.5 Foreground 3 Score: 3.3

We love indie

Fairly decent, nothing really memorable though.

Nothing too notable after the first few songs.
