I unironically like disco. This album has a couple tracks fall flat like 'Happy Hawaii' and 'Why did it have to be me'. But it also has some real hitters like 'Money Money Money' and a new personal fave for me 'Tiger'.

A good enough album, but with sadly too many overplayed songs.

This and Voulez-Vouz are just two incredible albums that most artists would only dream of creating.

Hey uhh I'm getting ready for work but I just wanna say, I really liked this on paper and I haven't heard anything quite like this before, but the thing is, it's hard for me to wrap my head around this being a band. It sounds just a bit TOO polished, a but TOO stiff instrumentally. The happiness absolutely shines through, but I take issue with the fact that I don't hear any individuality in the performances outside of the vocals. But the vocals themselves are fantastic, and they make some great songs.

Not my kind of thing but the hits are undeniably good. As with the other album of theirs I heard on here, it's striking how it doesn't draw on the same influences as most of the other stuff on the list. It was actually a bit weird when one of the songs had a blues structure. Outside of the hits though, nothing grabbed me, and some of the songs were a bit silly.

I’m practically at a 10. I’d be directly at a 10 if “Tiger” weren’t the last vocal track on the album. Yeah, that’s my singular gripe here. I’ve never heard an ABBA album in full before today, and for the most part, I’m a little blind on their big hits outside of “Dancing Queen”, but… fuck me, they know how to do great pop music. For 1976, this feels like it’s at least 5 years ahead of schedule – the swirling instrumentals here combined with their harmonies just creates an easy listening bliss. You could listen to all 33 minutes here without paying a lick of attention to the lyrics & you’d probably still fall in love with this album. The most minor nitpick I have is that a few tracks get a touch repetitive, but it doesn’t matter for 90% of the album; this thing feels like hit after nuclear bomb after hit after hit after hit after mega hit after hit after hit & then Tiger, & then hit again. Look, it’s not even a bad track. I liked it; great vocals, good pulse to the percussion, nice chord progression, et cetera. However, every other track paints a great story with its lyrics, even if those lyrics tend to feel simple. “Tiger” does not. I don’t know who or what the tiger is, & while there’s a sense of fear from the threats involved, it just doesn’t feel as potent as it’s trying to be. Compositionally, it’s overly reliant on its chorus (3 times in 90 seconds!) & bridge (can’t do that beat change twice, I fear). Without sharing the same conceptual legs as the 8 tracks behind it, it just feels a bit flat for it to be the final vocal track on the album. Hell, if it were earlier in the album, it’d be totally fine! Sure, you can remedy this in the streaming era by listening to “Fernando” after “Arrival”, but that’s not how the album was released in 1976. “Fernando” is great, by the way. “Tiger” is the singular minor blemish here, if only because it just sticks out compared to the rest. That said, the other 9 tracks here are so goddamn good that one pop track slightly below a super high bar cannot possibly bring this down. Ultimately, it’s just 30 minutes of pop bliss (& 3 extra minutes of slightly lesser city-based bliss) that deserves all the acclaim it gets. I frankly need to listen to way more ABBA if it’s all this good. I understand if people might be annoyed by such tightly crafted discopop, especially since it’s all a bit bubbly & happy compared to some people’s musical diets, but you can’t deny the musicality at hand here. For my pop loving brain, it’s a 10.

Best of ABBA. There are a few potholes here and there but when it gets you, it gets you. Hard to keep yourself from singing. That's Me, Tiger and the title track are very underrated here. Anni-Frid does not get enough credit for her vocals in Money Money Money.

It’s a fun tiime for sure. Not my thing at all, but can’t hate on any of these when they come up in a club or at a party.

Was expecting the worst but actually got something which is pretty good. Very surprised to learn that this is a concept album, something that I didn't think ABBA would really do. Quite a few classics on here, but also a couple of saccharine stinkers that let the side down somewhat. Overall, this was surprisingly alright, if a little dated in the synth department. Favourite track: Money, Money, Money Least favourite track: Dum Dum Diddle

it's good but i think i'm kinda sick of abba's sound and i need a break. i liked tiger, never heard that one. there's a few duds but lots of catchy classics too. not all of them i would dance to unless it was the greatest hits

It was fine. Not much into Abba; too saccharine, too Disco. It's a fine album though full of classic songs. I'll allow it.

ABBA - Arrival Hmmm. Thought I’d like this more. A bit shit apart from Dancing Queen. Music inoffensive enough but the lyrics are pretty buns throughout. I like the idea of abba, the occasional hit single, rather than sitting through an actual album. No hidden gems here. A bit boring. Best track : dancing queen ⭐️⭐️

Abba has escaped my scrutiny for 50 years. Despite their monster success in my youth, frequent appearances for decades in several forms and massive 21st century revival, I have given them little thought. Their presence parallels the Star Wars phenomenon that I have similarly overlooked although in a more openly dismissive fashion. Abba never truly entered my radar. I cannot say, “shame on me.” While the catchiness of several songs cannot be missed, I struggled to find other aspects of their music that stood out. There is formulaic blandness to their music that infrequently caught my attention in positive and negative ways. This type of pop contains its own Wall of Sound. Unlike the Phil Spector version, which crammed everything into a mono mix orchestra of heartbreaking drama, Abba’s music sounds like a puree of vegetables with only a niblet of corn occasionally providing something tasty. Pounding drums in “Tiger”, the disco ball sounds of “Dancing Queen” and some attitude present on “Money, Money, Money” from the keyboards, lyrics and strong solo singing. However, this song grabbed me on the same cartoon-like level of Boney M’s “Rasputin.” With the emphasis on vocals, it is imperative that they seize the ears in some fashion. I find Abba’s singing pitch-perfect in a most uninteresting manner. Perhaps the production shaved off most of the humanity, but the offerings failed me even as fun bubblegum. Unlike several recent records, I totally support Abba’s inclusion on the list, but not anyone who argues for their artistic greatness.

A perfectly suitable pop album. ABBA's faults mostly lie in how good they are. They are so severely overplayed that "Dancing Queen"—a perfect get-on-the-dancefloor song—borders between a shimmy of my shoulders to enraging my ears. At times, they can come off childish, which is sometimes fun: "Dum Dum Diddle" has a quirky to us that fits in the same category as "Ob-La-Di" (an understandably divisive song). Or fails with a puzzling tale of "When I Kissed the Teacher." You can completely see how ABBA's likely greatest success is the musical of Mamma Mia! because their songs fit spectacularly into the category of musical theater, especially "Money, Money, Money" (the only song besides "Dancing Queen" from this album to feature in the original musical), which sounds like the midway point between Fiddler on the Roof's "If I Were A Rich Man" and Gwen Stefani's "Rich Girl" but is a skip for me for personal listening, but it's a fun one for wedding receptions. I understand why one would like this album, but as far as ABBA goes, this is not a strong album for them (in fairness, it's the only one I've listen to in entirety). It has my least favorite of their hit songs. "Fernando" has always gotten on my nerves, even the spectacular Cher version from Mamma Mia 2 where she plays Meryl Streep's mother. "My Love, My Life" is my favorite, exhibiting something I love about ABBA and I feel is not often brought up when discussing them. They write incredible ballads that don't suffer from being wistful overwrought. The complicities of the group or less focused on than their rock counterparts Fleetwood Mac, but if I had to choose I'd pick "The Winner Takes It All" over "Go Your Own Way." I hope we listen to other ABBA albums because my favorite songs are on Super Trouper and Voulez-Vous (EXCEPT "Chiquitta")

The intersection of disco and Europop was never better than when it came from ABBA. The thing is, when I first heard this as a kid I had no love in my heart for this band. Everything about them annoyed me. I'm glad growing up and growing a pair of balls has taught me the truth about them. I just finished the ABBA Gold 33 1/3 book a few weeks ago and there's some interesting anecdotes about the recording of this album in there, so it's equally cool to re-experience the album with that context in mind. Genuinely essential. Argue with the wall.

Meh. Not horrible, just not a big fan of disco. Obviously have heard Dancing Queen a thousand times and the rest of the album sounds pretty similar.

Okay listen to me. As a teacher, this opening track made me so fucking uncomfortable. Were boundaries and consent not much of a thing 50 years ago? That geometry teacher should have been put on administrative leave because some Swedish disco floosie couldn't keep it together! 5 stars!!

So beautifully, wonderfully corny. Even the song that's a pastiche of 50s rock and roll has that europop cheese all over it. There are a couple of duds on here but overall it's a good time.

And why would I rate this any lower than 5 stars???

It's difficult to find any big thing to complain about on this set of lush pop songs. The hooks are plentiful and the synths are layered. "Knowing Me, Knowing You" is great, as is "Dancing Queen," even if it feels weird to be listening to it on purpose instead of at a wedding or in a movie. There are, however, some little things that drag this down. "When I Kissed the Teacher" is very weird lyrically. It's short enough that the lack of variety doesn't really show, but also short enough that the number of songs that are just pretty good is noticeable. "My Love, My Life" is lethargic and uninteresting. With a few more hits this could have been great, but as it is it's only very good.

I found this to be a really enjoyable (cheesy fun!) album throughout. Surprised me how almost every song put a smile on my face.

Top of the pile of albums that do crazy things to your blood pressure. Sickly sweet pop meets blinding white disco, it's as corny as it is undeniable.

Wow. Amazing vocals, amazing composition, fun, energetic, just all around legendary. Dancing queen is one of the greatest songs of all time, that alone rates this album higher than most. Then money, money, money comes along and gets political and talks about wealth distribution issues, the failures of capitalism and escaping the rat race by finding a rich man. Just really good stuff. This is an all timer album, easily.

So much fun. Putting aside how many times I’ve heard Dancing Queen, it really is a phenomenal, well-made pop album. I don’t often comment on influence, but I know for a fact this had a huge impact on pop music. 4

Dancing Queen Knowing Me, Knowing You Money, Money, Money Fernando

some great highs and some flops, I’m not super into Happy Hawaii. But some of my favorite ABBA songs are on here as well, so I mostly enjoyed it.

Individual ABBA songs are so good but when I listen to an album I feel so perplexed. My American mind can’t comprehend how or why a single group has made all these songs. I guess I can’t really read if the absurdity is sincere or a little self aware. Anyway this album has most of the hits!! I do love Why Did It Have to Be Me? And who doesn’t love Money Money Money!

It’s a good album, but Visitors is better. Here I love “Fernando”, which was my mom’s favorite ABBA song. And “Dum Dum Diddle” wasn’t bad as well.

Everything is so catchy and so expertly produced. It's pop that bridges disco and adds depth with melodies.

ABBA is ABBA. Enjoyable. But not to play every day.

They get way too much credit for their sound with that musical. They have okay disco tracks, but it's not as iconic a sound as fans make it out to be. Only like two of these tracks in the entire album are memorable.

I listened to like 4 hrs of ABBA when I was going through the Rolling Stone top 500 albums & they put a compilation album on the list…im tired of these people yelling at me. A B(ba)

Good ole iconic ABBA. Sure you know the hits, but when you listen you just sense that they absolutely know how to put a good pop song together. All of the pop songs today are formulaic and trying to be like the others, ABBA is this wholly original entity with great and timeless music. Pretty good album and easy listening at any time

Second ABBA album I’ve had and better than the first (the visitors). Having known ABBA all my life but only via the singles, listening to the studio albums has been fun. They show the development as a band, and how even album tracks feature the attention to detail and exquisite production as the hits. I enjoyed this a lot. I do genuinely struggle to understand how anyone who likes music could not enjoy this stuff.

Disappointed with this one. Other than the hits it's an underwhelming listen. Not much more to say. A short album, but not the pop orgazm I was expecting for an album that contains one of the best pop songs ever written (dancing queen of course). My love my life is probably my favorite non-hit here. A nice melodramatic ballad. Other than that, not bad, but not good as well. A 2.5 .middle of the road.

This album was actually so much fun to listen to. It was energetic, but also touching and sensitive at certain times points too. My favorite singer were Dancing Queen of course, Fernando, and Tiger.

This is a fun album. It's a product of the 70s and showcases 70s europop at its finest.

Cheesy but in an enjoyable way. My favorite track is "The Tiger" and I imagine "I Kissed The Teacher" was more fun when this album came out, but as often as teacher/student affairs are in the news these days it just feels creepy.

#157/1001 🇸🇪 I have promised to listen in full to every album here with respect and leave my own pre concieved opinions behind. Sadly i can't find too much to love here. The first and last tracks are just dire, Dancing Queen has been played to death and is impossible to make an opinion on - you either love it or hate it. For me the only track that stood out was Tiger, which i've maybe heard once before. Best Tracks: Tiger.

Read the Christgau review. It's a gem. Listening to this in the K-Pop era adds a bit of a wrinkle to looking back at 1970s disco-pop. Will the giant K-Pop hits sound this dated in 40 years or will the extra effort to be cool make them age better? Most of these songs are throwaways but I really like Knowing Me, Knowing You.

I’ve heard this before. I fucking love ABBA. ABBA fucking rules. They’re one of the few 70s bands that incorporates the wall of sound style of recording and uses it to their advantage rather than just accepting it and rolling along. Each song here is great, including the deep cuts, and the radio hits ain’t bad either.

Ah, ABBA. Or should I say, AHHA, ABBA. No, i should not say that, because that would be weird. You could probably pick any ABBA album to go on this list - each has a few hits and bangers you'll know and assorted filler. The issue with the band has always been a flaw and a plus - you know an ABBA song when you hear it, but they don't do much beyond that. Sure they have variety, but that core sound is so ingrained that they all kind of feel the same after a while. So, this has a few bangers and assorted filler which are fine.

Actually solid. I think a 4 is fair. It is fun and does some interesting things. I felt myself slipping on some songs but I don't really have anything I dislike. It could have been cut a song or two.

started off very peppy i like the sound very shady bar karaoke coded My love, my life changes the sound a bit, until it the song sounded like a happier song but this sounds like something of substance is being talked about. I like knowing me knowing you as its the kind of song you would just listen in the metro while making a scenario about breaking up with somebody. I REALLY LIKE MONEY MONEY MONEY's SOUNDDD. Thats me reminds me of my sister very teenage girl empowering songs. the whole album is very dipika coded. the avoidance but not the ignorance. I like fernando for the lyrics and the feeling of it. Happy hawai is the kind of song i would play in the webseries i will make which will include a car drive scene or a fair scene with vague things happening .

Discazo, gran banda. Después de varios dás flojos, apareció un discazo. Un pop muy bueno. Arranca bien, pero ya en la 2da canción se va al carajo con "Dancing Queen", hitazo. Después mantiene, hay un par de temas muy buenos, otros buenos y otros normalitos. Pero la verdad muy buen disco. 8,5/10

I thought I liked Abba but perhaps I don't. The songwriting is clearly impressive but I found the actual music quite painful to listen to at times. Particularly the grating harmonies and cheesy backing tracks. But its still good music, despite the well known tracks having been played to death.

This little twink loves ABBA. I don't know any band that sounds similar to them. Such a fun album with a nice flow.

Pop sucrée pas désagréable mais que je n'écouterais pas une seconde fois. =>2/5 Une bonne surprise quand même : découvrir la version originale de 'Arrival'. Je connaissais la version de Mike Oldfield, mais je ne savais pas que le morceau avait été composé par Abba.

What more can be said about Abba? When they get it right they do pop music better than anyone else. Dancing Queen, KMKY, Money Money Money are all perfect little pop nuggets. That said, a lot of the rest of the album is filler. As good as some kf the production and instrumentation is, on repeat listens you can tell it's just 50s songs with twin guitar harmonies. Iron maiden if they read Take A Break instead of Tolkien. Impossible to hate, but not woeth recommending. 3?

The bagpipes number was a surprise especially being followed by a mexican number. The writing does come across as formulaic with some songs blending into each other. The harmonies stay just this side of sickly sweet but it's good honest pop with an accent on goodness

Props for longevity and a couple monster hits ("Dancing Queen" and "Money Money Money" especially) but ABBA has never been high on my list of bands I enjoy. Just part of the disco-pop sound that was pretty vapid but did produce some extremely catchy jangles.

I don't think anyone outside sweden can understand how annoyingly everywhere Abba was when we grew up. Now i realise it's perfectly competent m.o.r pop and I still can't stand it.

People will tell you that Abba are annoying. And they may be right, depending on the dose. But those people have never went to a white person wedding and seen the dance floor fill the second Dancing Queen starts up.

This was the perfect Monday Morning album. Just full of hits, and truly I am not like a die hard ABBA fan - but I have found that I am becoming more of one. I dated and loved someone who was very dear to me - a Danish man who admitted that ABBA was the best thing to come out of Sweden, and he truly did not like the Swedes in the way Danes normally do. He LOVED ABBA, and every time I listen to them, I think of him, and I am filled with a bittersweet happiness that I think ABBA often brings to the table. IDK I guess I'm just being sentimental! Either way, you should listen to the Spanish version of Dancing Queen.

This one is tough to grade. The songs seem so unauthentic, so produced and manufactured. It feels like... Ok, lay down the vocals. Ok, now lay down the acoustic guitars. Ok, now lay down the drums. Ok, now lay down the bass. Ok, now add some effects. The vocals are great, despite heavily overproduced. It just doesn't all come together for me. They are great songs though so whoever r the songwriters are super talented.

The alblum has some of thier greatest songs and is "well supported" by the rest. I very much appreciated and enjoyed it. A good listen but I can see how it might get old if listened to too often

ABBA is probably the most overrated and underrated band at the same time. Overrated because the only seventies band that plays in the clubs. Underrated because that makes people think they have only danceable dj music. There is much more depth to ABBA and Arrival shows that, though I find that Arrival had a few more dull moments than their best: Voulez-Vous

Abba are what they are. It is churlish to say this is anything other than everything it wants to be - fun, catchy and so very Abba. 9/10

A surprise 5. I don't know that I've ever actually listened to a full ABBA record, only the greatest hits. It helps that my favorite song knowing me knowing you is on here. Benny and Bjorn are tremendous producers, songwriters, and arrangers. Agnetha was a force too. it's funny because when I was younger, they were really looked on as cheesy fluff but then in the 90s developed huge critical respect. Kind of like with the Carpenters, one day everybody just woke up and said "wow these are really fantastic well-made records."

This album is really great despite not being something I really love.

Does it hsve many of the classics? Yes. Are the deep cuts good in their own right? Yes. Do I feel the inclinatikn to give it a perfect rating... not quite. Sequencing is an issue and I can't quite shake that it feels more like a compilation than an LP.

There are some BIG tunes in here, and the tracks I didn’t already know were also good. Lots of foot tapping going on! It's not just campy, poppy fun either - these are genuinely great songs, well written with great hooks and rhythms. I had a thoroughly good time with this!

Hmm Abba. A 4 feels very generous, but ultimately I love the music. I've probably given technically better albums a lower score, but by my metrics, where a 4 is an album I would rush back to, this has to be one.

The singles were classic, so big it overpowers the rest of the album because I can’t hear them in context as they’ve been a part of my entire life. The album was okay as a whole, but those singles took them to a place of noteworthy few other acts ever reached.

Tellement fun et whimsy !!

Sweden has really come out with some interesting groups. This is quintessential Disco Pop with a very lush and vibrant sound. Focus goes to the two lead singers which have become centered around a whole era of music and dance. The music itself is very tightly put together and is the real achievement of the band I think, the change of instruments, the jaunty bouncing pace of many songs worms its way into you. There's some variety on this album but you're going to get what ABBA is most know for "Dancing Queen" and if you don't like that then its gonna fall flat.

I resisted the urge to rank this a 5 before I even listened to it. But it's ABBA. How could it not be a 5?! The whole album makes me want to live in a movie makeover montage.

These cornballs are alright. It’s not technically very impressive or innovative, but they did find a unique sound that is pleasant enough.

I'm a sucker for ABBA. In my friend's basement "billiards room", there was a pool table and a CD player. The first time we played, ABBA Greatest Hits was in there, and we just never changed the CD. So that was all we ever listened to while playing pool. Obviously this wasn't the greatest hits album, but it had some of the classic bangers. The filler wasn't to bad though I wouldn't open with a song called When I Kissed the Teacher, no matter how innocent it might intend to be.

I know I am supposed to like ABBA but as a whole I just don't. The popular tunes are good bops as they say but otherwise I am just not a big fan.

First things first - Dancing Queen is the number one greatest pop song of all time. Right? I mean if not it then what? It's simply a perfect piece of entertainment that floods your pleasure centres. The album surrounding it is fine too, depending on your tolerance for utterly cheesey yet undeniable well constructed euro-pop and disco adjacent bops. The other songs can be pretty silly (Looking at you Dum Dum Diddle), but are hard to really hate, unless you're super cynical. In which case, hate away. As for me, I was stressed out after a long day and this absolutely brightned my commute, so thank you ABBA, you goofy Sweedish pop auters.

Sure! - maybe I'm just old now, but I appreciate the grown-up themes of the songs. truly adult contemporary. - I didn't remember "Tiger" and it amused me greatly. Verdict: Consistent, dependable, well-crafted. More like furniture than music. Listen Again? I'm not sure anyone on earth needs more than Abba Gold.

I used to think and say a lot loudly that Abba was my least favourite music out of all, well now to think back on that it's a little bit of a stretch because I could easily find music which is way way way worse and maybe could barely even be labeled as music. Now on the other hand "Arrival", a concept album from Swedish eurovision legends. A well crafted pop music with several hits. Again it is not my cup of tea, but this is still a good record, easily enjoyable, 3 stars for me.

Well here's a group and album everyone in my close and extended family probably knows about including my famously "allergic to western music" grandma - which can't be said for 99% of other artists on this list save for maybe The Beatles and the other disco pop staple in Boney M. (which now that I look them up aren't even on this list? Daddy Cool, Rasputin, Rivers of Babylon, hello?!). I think the popularity of ABBA is lost for anyone that's not European; they've been inescapable for going on more than 50 years and I'd bet if we were just looking at Europe they'd give MJ a run for his money in a popularity contest. Literally anyone younger than that still can't remember a time they didn't know about Dancing Queen. Anyone that performs at Eurovision still gets compared to Waterloo. This is all to say that this likely isn't an objective rating, I have memories tied to this group and anyone I know also does. Sure it's a bit of its time as all disco is, but the instrumentation is still great at what it's trying to do and the lyricism and singing still more than holds up. If I were listening to this for the first time it'd likely score a bit lower, but I can't bring myself to do that when I'm still, even after listening to it probably thousands of times, belting out YOU ARE A DANCING QUEEEEEEN! any chance I get.

Starting off strong - I'll just say it, I'd also scream if you kissed the teacher. Absolutely don't do that. The 70s were so obsessed with noncery, even if it was from the perspective of the schoolgirl - I don't care, I don't want to hear it. It's an unpleasant thought, troubling and does not set the tone for the absolute banger of an album this is, but then again it simply has to be placed in the time it was and this song does that. It was the 70s, you're kissing your teacher and he is, let's face it, probably kissing you back. That aside, what an album absolutely full of bangers. I'll just say it, Abba can steam a mean ham / tune and all the songs (even the weird ones about obscure history or teachers and stuff) are such good tuunnes to sing and dance to. Go on girl, have a twirl - I know I did! 5 STARS

Okay, noch nie ein Abba Album gehört. Lohnt sich der Deep Dive? Gibt es Versuche, aus dem Euro Disco Pop Gerüst auszubrechen oder damit zu spielen? Natürlich nicht. Interessant ist wie stark die Protagonistinnenrolle über die Songs "variiert" (starke Frau. Schwache Frau. Will Beziehung. Will keine Beziehung. Beziehung unlauter. Beziehung nicht unlauter.). Und musikalisch natürlich damit aus einem (zuckrigen) Guss. Die Hits sind Hits, den Rest hätte ich nicht auch noch gebraucht, aber der Rest hätte mit genug AirPlay wahrscheinlich auch Single sein können. Popfection.

Es gibt 2 Modi ABBA zu hören. 1. Nach 5 Bier auf der Tanzfläche Dancing Queen mitschallern. 2. Und ein ganzes Album hören. Was für ein absurder Ritt durch alles was 1976 hot war. Einmal durch den Pop-Wolf gedreht und ab dafür. Verkappte Disco-Songs, verkappte Fleetwood-Songs, und wenn man manche Songs hört absurd, dass man erst in denn 00ern ein ABBA Musical Film kam. Nicht dass mir das im Arrangement und auch in der Band-Instrumentierung nicht gefällt. Gerade sowas wie "Money Money Money" ist schon aus Musical-Perspektive und guter Song. Der Text hingegen - sagen wir mal - schlecht gealtert. Insgesamt kann in den nicht böse sein und gebe einen Bonus-Punkt für die vielen Male Dancing Queen mitschallern nach dem 5. Bier.

I enjoyed this. But I think that might be down to the fact that my girlfriend loves Mamma Mia; she regularly makes us watch the film, and we have even seen it in the West End this year.

When ABBA hit, they bloody hit. But Jesus Christ when they miss is it not good. ABBA's second best album after ABBA Gold though. Why Did It Have To Be Me? is a hidden gem. There was something in the air that night, the stars were bright, Fernando. There was something there for you and me, and Carol P, Fernando.

This album just isn't for me. There's definitely something to it, it's just not sticking for me. "Dancing Queen", "Money, Money, Money" & "Knowing Me, Knowing You" are all tracks that are so clearly foundational to Pop music as the genre traveled through the decades to today. Furthermore, while some aspects (such as the synth & piano work in particular) that feel very of the time, the tracks retain this timeless feel— undoubtedly in part because "Dancing Queen" remains to have a chokehold on humanity to this day, and continues to be regularly played. Vocal work is incredibly impressive across the album. It feels, in some way, that the vocal work here is sort of bridging the great vocal range that is found in opera and theater into a, then, modern context. I could be ignorant to other factors though in regards to that. Definitely think the back half of the album is weaker in comparison to the front half. Arrival is a culturally significant album in context of the times. But again, just not doing much for me personally.

ahhh ABBA.. our mom loved them we grew up with them !! more fun memories than 'I can't wait to listen to that again' but I'll take dancing queen anytime-they played that on my birthday once at universal grill in the west village and all the fabulous gay boy waiters came out dancing and singing around me lolllll

Pop Gold. Say what you want about the frivolity of this band, they cracked the code for global popularity. Benny & Bjorn were geniuses in their production and the wives’ harmonies have to put a smile on your face. Sheer joy and fun. Although I wouldn’t be caught dead in that helicopter death trap.

A reminder of my childhood when Abba blared through the house - total freedom. I was at the age when I could spin in circles, thrash about and jump off the furniture in complete artistic bursts. Untethered.

It all feels like pop music as musical theater. Well sung. Well produced - I have to give credit here - there is some crazy sh*t going on here. But to what end. Perhaps the genius of great pop music is to make you feel something with no distinct origin point. This broadens the appeal. You can't actually have a bad day listening to Knowing me, Knowing you. I'm not sure if I'm happier. Or just distracted. And for as "poppy" as this album - Abba is also kind of weird precisely because of its uber poppiness (tiger, Tiger, TIIIGGGGRRRR...). I will never cease to be confounded by Abba. An object of fascination I can't quite "get". I know completely missed that point and probably points to a serious character flaw on my part. I can't give myself over and I feel that is what Abba requires. Just surrender and stop asking questions about whatever happened to Fernando.

It was fine, but I won't listen to it again

While the first song has not aged well. I really enjoyed the rest of the album with its tour through Abba's musical capabilities. The 1st third is anchored by Dancing Queen and Dum Dum Diddle. The middle third is where this album shines as Abba flexes and shows off their musical prowess. The end of the album keeps up the energy and brings us home with Fernando. All in all a very good album.

What a weird song to open with. Dancing Queen is on here which I can't deny is an all timer. That's the only reason it's has more than one star.

For as long as I've been into music, people have been talking about how ABBA is the ultimate guilty pleasure. Now that we all agree on that, maybe it's time to stop being guilty about it? Anyway, I've always been more of a "Waterloo" girl, but I can't really deny the concentration of hits here! Unfortunately, aside from "When I Kissed the Teacher", the album tracks don't really live up to the near-impossible standards set by the singles.

Ja heel eerlijk, gewoon een leuk album. Zal het echter niet vaak zelf opzetten. Dancing Queen is vanzelfsprekend een all time classic

A great album with some huge hits, but a couple of tracks were a bit samey so it's only a 4.

Terribly dated and tacky thing.

I didn't dislike this as much as I thought I would have.. ABBA are so overplayed but the fun police didn't arrive and I actually enjoyed this. First half is way stronger than the second though.

Any album with Dancing Queen on it will probably get 5 stars from me

ABBA good but none of the new songs stuck (who could have imagined)

The production value and the thought behind every song is noticeable. No wonder they are (or were) one of the best pop gigs. However it all sounds very planned for a radio audience, catchy and predictable. Nice album, not for me.
