Loved the Boxer. Particular fave
I'd heard that this album was very acclaimed, and now I understand why. The two tracks I'd heard previously were my favorites: The Boxer and Cecelia. The title track was pretty powerful as well. The remaining tracks felt just ok, which knocks it down slightly to a 4.
Not my absolute favorite album of theirs, but still an undeniably wonderful collection of songs. Cecilia, The Only Living Boy In New York, the title track. I'm cuspy on 4 vs 5 but I think I'll round down on this one. Some of the production was kind of busy and distracting to the tracks.
Paul Simon's songwriting is mature, subtle and fantastically inventive. Garfunkel's gentle tenor floats beautifully through each song. The instrumentation is ambitious, perhaps too grand for the intimate nature of the songs, but it's hard to fault this album for its execution.
The title track is one of the most important and one of the best songs ever written, that's for sure. The whole album was very influenntial. Also, just without these facts - it's still a great album.
The title track is way too saccharine for me, but the rest of this album is phenomenal.
In retrospect, putting such an elegant, languid ballad as the opening track on an album that is otherwise pretty uptempo probably should have been a sign that Simon & Garfunkel were flying too close to the sun.
For reasons I'd like to think are rational but probably aren't, I want to hate just about everything Simon and/or Garfunkel does. I find the songwriting on the folksier 60s material way too goofy, or I find Paul Simon's later work not interesting enough relative to how much he risked to cross the cultural boycott line. And yet here it all makes sense to me. I listen to "Cecilia" and understand why Paul Simon wanted to do that in the first (in addition to understanding, in some sense, Vampire Weekend's whole deal); I listen to "Baby Driver" and I get where the folk scenesters were coming from at their most energetic (in addition to understanding, in some sense, Edgar Wright's whole deal); I listen to "Keep the Customer Satisfied" and I feel like I understand more of where pop music thought it could maybe go in a post-Beatles world (in addition to understanding, in some sense, the producers of Full House and/or whoever wrote the theme song). I don't think Simon & Garfunkel will ever be my favorite due to whatever prejudices I may have on my end. But even if you're a hater, you should be able to admit when your enemies made some good points.
Good stuff
Still really great. I can’t get over how Garfunkel looms over Paul on the cover and the record. He must regret not doing this himself everyday.
A lot of this is good, but a chunk of it is just kinda 'fine', 3*5
my cat Béla hates traveling, but he can tolerate the car ride in the cat carrier a little bit better if I throw on some Simon & Garfunkel, so I've become fairly familiar with their five studio albums over the past couple years. Bridge isn't necessarily my favorite, but it's hard to deny that it's one of their finest efforts, especially considering the circumstances surrounding its production (most notably, Art Garfunkel missing sessions to go act in a movie). how can I really deny an album with songs as great as the title track, or "The Boxer," or especially "The Only Living Boy In New York" (which might stand as my favorite S&G song of all time)? you're looking at some of the most immaculate pop songs ever conceived right there! the vocal layering is fantastic as always, but what really sells this album is all the studio instrumentation. on some previous S&G albums, I always felt like the bells & whistles distracted from the core of what made them so compelling, but on Bridge they all serve to elevate the songs in question, especially the brass and saxophones that show up from time to time. a great note for this iconic duo to go out on. decent 8/10.
Will listen after dopamine break
though I prefer the Concert in Central Park versions of BoTW and The Boxer, this album is outstanding.
Favorite tracks: Cecilia Definitely a great chill/easy listening album.
Great album with some classics
Some classics on this one
Nice easy listening, up beat tunes with some good percussion and acoustic guitar work topped off with a good singing duo harmonising well. Overall, a well put together album.
Nice and calming, I liked this album alot
Great album, has some really top tier songs on it.
Love this Album - glad to listen to it again! #albumsky #musicsky 4/5
these two never do me dirty
Music is good. Some is low energy, but great harmonizing.
I liked this one more than I thought I would. Actually enjoyed listening to it on the way to work.
Objektivt är det ju bra. Många hits. De träffar inte perfekt för min del så det blir inte högsta betyg. Vilket jag har full förståelse för att man sätter. Bästa låten är "the only living boy in new york", mycket bättre än övriga hits.
This was a really beautiful album, I enjoyed all the songs but the title song was by far my favorite. 3.5/5
Simon & Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970) remains a classic and an essential piece of pop history, a masterful swan song defined by its ambitious production and genre-hopping brilliance. The album's reputation is entirely warranted by its colossal singles—"Bridge Over Troubled Water," "The Boxer," and "Cecilia"—which are arguably flawless. However, the non-single tracks, while often interesting experiments in world music and folk-rock ("El Cóndor Pasa," "Baby Driver"), are noticeably less consistent and captivating, making the album's brilliance feel front-loaded and leaving the overall listening experience slightly uneven compared to the peerless quality of its major hits.
A piece of New Yorin in the Sixties
Not my favorite S&G album, but they're always great.
Nice
So many classic songs, from the title track to Cecilia.
Just enough classics to push this into four-star territory, although I tend to enjoy the later versions of those classics more than the originals.
Overall solid album, especially “The Boxer”. Unfortunate but perhaps not unexpected that the duo parted ways after this album
No doubt that this a great album with solid songs, but once I finished listening, I kinda missed something that stood out.
A timeless classic -Cecilia -The Boxer -The Only Living Boy in New York
sweet cooing reminiscent of a mellower Beatles, comforting if vintage enjoyed the change in pace from BOTW to cecelia and keep the customer satisfied, to the subtle bossa nova vibe with So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright
Starting my Monday off with Simon and Garfunkel really set me up on my high horse and man do I already know I'm going to fall hard. Good album, I forget how short some albums are though.
Solid all the way through. I like the duo better than the either musician individually, and this album showcases how well they make music as a unit. It's mellow, folky, and a bit melancholy, but enjoyable. It also works well as a whole, even though the songs are good on their own. Overall: 3.8/5
Its a classic, hard to listen to with fresh ears. I love the warm tone
I didn't really know what to expect, I think maybe I've heard a track off this before, and covers of the title track. I was pleasantly surprised. This is my first album by them, and I understand the hype.
8/10. Happy 300 albums to me!!! This is a really nice album!!! :)
very good love Baby Driver after watching the film
Classic album, lots of songs I recognise
poetic and lyrical, makes you like floating on a cloud…
Personal enjoyment: 4/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5
Love love love them
Easy to listen to, a bit emotional, a bit warm, a bit rich.
A great album to pop on if you’re looking to wind down and hit the sack. There’s some good tunes on here for sure, but the whole thing makes me very sleepy 🥱
A lot of classics on here.....the clapping on 'Bye Bye Love' is obnoxious. 4.5 stars.
Classic
listened to again nearly every song on this record is familiar to me, not from my listening history but just from culture...that's how iconic this is
A very nice album! Bridge Over Troubled Water is such a beautiful song. I also love Cecilia! I thought the cover by The Vamps was the original version up until a few years ago. Much to my surprise! 4 ⭐️
Great classic album
Love this album my dad used to play it when i was a kid lots of warm memories.
This album was way better than “Bookends”. I felt the tension between the duo as they were both trying to get this album finished before they would break up for awhile.
Great!
Some solid songs and very good overall. Not quite a 5 but pretty dang close.
Was not expecting to like this, especially not this much. Usually this kind of music would not be for me, but this is a rare example of a chill and soothing folk album that manages to stay fun the whole way through. It doesn't leave instrumentation in the gutter, it's not repetitive or monotonous, and all the crescendos here a extremely well made (the title track and The Boxer are so damn good). This is just a very pleasant and enjoyable listen. Wasn't a huge fan of the more laid-back song here as they're pretty much typical American folk that I find boring, but there are only a couple of those, so this is still a great album. This is not the kind of music I see myself returning to often, but I enjoyed the experience a lot.
3.5
Reminds me of listening to music in my grandpas car
VIbes! Aber man muss auch in der Stimmung sein für diesen sehr verträumten hippie Vibe. Aber dann is geil.
Whoever made this list certainly must like Simon/Simon & Garfunkel. This was the last studio album from S/G, and it includes “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, which as I recall was the #1 song of 1970 and one of the top songs of the 1970s. Cecilia was a big radio hit, but it isn’t in my list of top S/G songs. The Boxer grew in popularity as the years passed. The rest of the record is good but not five stars.
And back to traditional 1001 album fare we go. I like the album cover. This is my favorite S&G album so far, I think, in no small part because of 'Cecilia' (which is in no small part because of this beloved comedy video from my college era, 'Simon and Carfunkel' (bad for headaches though, honk): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5kBOZBxF5k ). I'm a little too sleepy to pay proper attention to this album, but in my defense, some of these (non-Cecilia) songs are very conducive to a snooze. Pleasant little snooze though. Wiki also says a lot of these songs are secretly about Garfunkel, which is cute/weird/interesting/sad. Highlights: 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', 'Cecilia', 'The Boxer', 'Bye Bye Love' (which we had before with Ray Charles!)
This flew by pretty quickly. The variety on what is basically a folk/singer-songwriter album is way more than what I would expect from artists that are supposedly similar to the boys here. It's still fundamentally folk music but there is enough variability in the songs to make it seem greater than the genre is. There are plenty of time, tempo, and key changes/arrangements to keep you from getting bored and to me that's really rare for this kind of album. I don't want to give it a 5 because there are some skips on here (Keep the customer satisfied, so long frank loyd wright, why don't you write me) but the huge hits are huge for a reason and they really have cross-genre appeal. A 4.5 if there ever was one.

Deserves to be considered a classic. Contains some of their best known songs.
8/10
"Bridge Over Troubled Water" is the fifth and final album by American folk duo Simon & Garfunkel. The album follows a similar musical pattern to the previous album, "Bookends," by partly abandoning their traditional folk style to incorporate elements of rock, R&B, jazz, world music and pop. The album was produced by Simon & Garfunkel and Roy Halee. It was their first album to credit musicians which included some from "The Wrecking Crew." Commercially, the album hit #1 in both the US and UK. Critically, it initially had mixed reviews but, in retrospect, many consider it their best album. The self-titled "Bridge Over Troubled Water" opens softly with a piano and Garfunkel on lead vocals. Slowly, the drum cymbals, Simon on backing vocals and strings are added. The song builds: a "Wall of Sound" style. The song was inspired by a song from the Swan Silvertones and Simon wrote this addressed to his wife. A classic if there ever was one. Simon translates the Peruvian "El Condor Pasa (If I Could)" into English. A flute, some stringed instrument and Simon on vocals in this uplifting. song. What Simon thought was a traditional song and not subject to royalties was not true. I think selling 25 million album copies helped that out. Simon and Garfunkel used a tape machine with a reverberation effect and drum sticks on a parquet floor to create the catchy beat of "Cecilia." Vocal harmonies. A flute. This is a fun song. If you listen to lyrics, it's about an unfaithful girl who invites another guy to her bed while the singer (lover) is in the bathroom. It can happen. The first single released was "The Boxer," another big one. Acoustic guitar, Simon on lead vocals and Garfunkel on vocal harmonies. Another song that builds with a catchy chorus "lie-la-lie-lie-lie-lie-lie." There's all sorts of instruments: echoing drums, flute, harmonica, tuba, dobro and contra bass. "The Only Living Boy in New York" is one of the deeper cuts I really liked. Acoustic guitar, bass and Simon with heartfelt vocals and fading harmonies. Garfunkel was away acting in a movie as Simon wrote this song about isolation. Connecting the dots, I'm thinking that isolation did not help the long-term stability of this duo. There's a fair bit of variety in tone (delicate, serious, upbeat and fun) songs and in the styles (ballads, bossa nova, pop, world, Latin, even reggae). There's lots of instruments, audience and various percussion and unique beats....I didn't think it was over-the-top production. This album has a few absolute classic pop songs and up there with the best Simon has ever written. But, there are a few more sleepy or as one critic called it soporific tunes. Overall, the highs are very high and this is a classic and very good album. I might give the slight edge to their previous album "Bookends" but they're both worth a listen.
This album is classic, but why is the title track the opener?? It’s a total mood killer before the album even really gets going
A pleasant listen. Not really my thing. Although, I did enjoy the more upbeat songs. A well done album overall. Just not for me.
Simon & Garfunkel are always difficult to put a finger on. Sometimes you get soft-spoken, harmonised guitar ballads about Robert Frost; sometimes you get Simon's signature narrative-driven compostions, strongly influenced by the regional music of some random country across the world; and sometimes they even give the Beatles a run for their money. Here, you get exactly that familiar hodgepodge, but only the very best of it, like picking all the best parts out of a salad. Perhaps not the most coherent album of all time, but who cares when it's all such a joy to listen to.
Very pleasant. Excellent songwriting and composition by Simon. Some amazing songs. Also very sleepy
Baš dobar album, volim njih dvojicu i često si pustim. Nekako je dosta raznoliko, pa čak i stilski, iako ima većinom laganice. Ugodan odmor za uši nakon par loših albuma 😁 4/5, 7.5/10
A good listen
295/1001
I liked it- Cecilia was my fav
This is just nice and sweet. I love Garfunkel's 2010s-jaret-looking ass. Baby Driver is a rare example where an American group builds off 60s Brit-Pop without being annoying. 4/5.
I’ve known this album since I was a kid, it has some absolutely undeniable songs, and I always think of it as a classic. However, it’s been a long, long time since I’ve listened to Bridge Over Troubled Water all the way through because it just never crosses my mind to play it, and while I enjoyed revisiting it, I’m not sure that will change. Maybe that’s the difference between a four-star and a five-star album?
I really enjoyed this album. Turning into a Simon & Garfunkel fan
Classic album
It's Simon & Garfunkel so you can't really go wrong. Not their best album, but still great stuff. My favorite on this one is The Boxer. Not really a Bridge fan.
great. i dont like this style of music, still great.
Good, classic
Tunes galore
The duo's last album is also their best. Does not waste a single second with nonesense like the other albums do and simply delivers the goods. The songwriting, that is. Also, the way Paul Simon's hair looks like it is Art Garfunkel's moustache on the cover art is very funny to me. Key tracks: Bridge Over Troubled Water El Condor Pasa Cecilia So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright The Boxer
Might be one of the best albums of all time but I cringed when it came up yesterday. Just never was my jam.
Galet bra låtskrivare är de. Genomtänk produktion rakt igenom. Stråkarna och fiolerna bär varje gång(”So Long, Frank Lloyd”, ”El Condor Pasa”). Känns som att de hämtat inspiration från många andra kulturer, vilket är amerikansk kultur som bäst. Kommer vara en banger när man sitter med kärringen på verandan som 70-åring och ser barnbarn springa runt. Fulaste omslaget någonsin.
they lezzed the hell out on this
This is the second album of theirs I've listened to and I'm happy to say I enjoyed it a lot more than the previous one. That first run of songs is brilliant. The opener and title track is obviously a true classic. Way to open an album. A lot of beauty throughout the album. The quality dips a bit towards the end. That live Everly Brothers cover is entirely superfluous, though I do get why they included it. Their harmonies are as silky smooth as ever. However, my one eternal gripe is that Paul Simons lyrics are as subtle as the Pregerson interchange. There's nothing beyond the surface. He undoubtedly writes gorgeous grade A melodies. And a lot of the time that's enough. But sometimes the one dimensional nature of his lyrics leaves me feeling hollow. Sometimes his lyrics make me think of Olive Garden and Tom Cruise films. He's the most AMERICAN songwriter I can think of. Not in a bad way, but also kind of in a bad way. lai la lai la la lai lai la la lai lalalala lai...
Absolutely great. Simon and Garfunkel never failed when it came to beautiful harmonies and captivating lyrics.
Love this
This album is not going to blow your socks off, but will lull you into a relaxing state. I liked a lot of songs on here such as the title track, Cecilia, The Boxer, Baby Driver, The Only Boy Living In New York (might be my favorite track on this album). Quick-hitting album that makes for some really easy listening. Not too many complaints from me. This is in the 4 territory, but maybe closer to a Low 4.
It has a nice variety of genres and moods, with just about every song being fun and interesting. I liked Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme a little bit more though.
What a great album. Cecilia is such a banger, I've been a fan of that song for a long, long time. But it also has The Boxer and Only Living Boy in New York? So good!
Stellar album from back to front
Vackert album med fina harmonier, många bängers. Nära perfekt
A bit twee all these years later, but there is no denying the quality of Garfunkel's voice 4.5*
Awesome
brilliant
Providing many influences but not an album for me
Folk with some unique aspects like jazz and rock, frolicking in the fields - Good blend of different instruments and styles, making it fun to listen to - Standout tracks include Bridge Over Troubled Water for the vocals, The Boxer for the deep saxophone, and The Only Living Boy in New York for the melody - Some songs get repetitive
Very amazing album the music is so profound and composed beautifully, I do have to be in a mood for Simon & Garfunkel but when I’m in that mood it slaps
idk how i’ve never listened to this whole album!!! wish i could give it 4.5 stars
Like a folk, rock, and gospel smoothie with heartfelt lyrics
Cecelia girlie when will you come home?!
Fantastic album. Highlights are of course Bridge, Cecilia, and the Boxer
Flawless and phenomenal collection of thematic pieces scaling multiple structures. Pop songs, ballads, interpretative pieces, and engaging and interesting stories with exceptional melodies. This album particularly reminds me that Simon and Garfunkel were so incredible and the schism only really let Art fall into obscurity but he was gifted and talented. Another album and lubes me up and inserts me deep into a period of nostalgia that I've been a part of.
It's a classic that I had the pleasure of listening to growing up. My mom was 40 when she had me and I got to enjoy a broad range of music due to that. Love how they harmonize together. One of the greatest duos out there.
Good voice and pretty calm music. Some odd but interesting instruments pop in out of nowhere to make it almost comical at times.
I don’t like bridge over troubled waters but I like all other tracks: Simon and Garfunkel are a solid 4 for me
This is a sweet album. Good, but not perfect. Beautiful & impeccable Paul Simon vocals. Standard folk instrumentation. I’m thrown off by the insertion of a live track in the midst of all the other studio versions. Stand out tracks are “The Boxer” and “The Only Living Biy in New York”.
GOOD SHIT
Melodic folk rock/pop. Simon's voice is a pleasant listen. Title track OK, a bit overrated. Standouts are the hits "Cecilia" and "The Boxer" which are great.
The album has moved me to tears. That surprised me. It's getting too much after a while though. Still, 4/5.
Overall Thoughts: Average start, but picked up. Big tracks, chill vibes. Favourite tracks: Cecilia, The Boxer, Why Don't You Write Me, Bye Bye Love
Half the songs are absolutely amazing, the other half are mostly tedious
I wanted to listen to this with fresh ears, but honestly that was too hard. Great songs, a classic, etc. I suppose it deserves 5 stars, objectively, but for my own listening, not quite.
Simon & Garfunkel's last album, released in early 1970s. I love the hit songs especially (my favorite is El Condor Pasa), and the angelic voice of Art Garfunkel always touches me. The rest of the album is also good. It's a tad overproduced, I feel but it still overall a very nice album.
Some terrific songs - but it doesn't move me the way it did 20 years ago.
Fantastic. Enjoyable cover to cover. Love the vocals and just adore the style. First couple of tracks are absolute classics. Very close to a five but giving a strong 4.
Simon & Garfunkel's farewell album. With Art Garfunkel taking up acting, Paul Simon found himself lacking the motivation to write any songs for the duo. After all, he was the one doing all the songwriting, so why shouldn't he keep the songs for a solo effort? Still, the duo had anticipated to work on a new album once Garfunkel finished filming, so they scrapped together some songs for a definitively final album. The result is somehow heads and shoulders above their back catalogue. The opening title track is one of the most moving, resonant songs ever put to tape, and a clear highlight in the boys' musical career. The rest of the album is Paul Simon's eccentric songwriting at it's strongest with highlights like The Boxer, El condor pasa, and even radio-favorite Cecelia demonstrating the effectiveness of the range of styles employed by the duo. The album closes with the bittersweet Song for the Asking, as Simon & Garfunkel reassure that they will always have music in their hearts and for one another. As an album, it's a fantastic collection of folk songs at it's most innovative, wonderfully executed. As a parting gift, it is a sweet and sorrowful goodbye to a once-in-a-generation duo that brought unmatched music to the lives of millions.
Another Simon and Garfunkel album in the space of a few days! Not complaining, very partial to them! Aside from the obvious 3 well known songs from this album, I discovered El Condor Pasa (If I Could), The Only Living Boy in New York and Song for the Asking.
4.5
Yes, I, too, had a folk and Wes Anderson phase in highschool which brought me to this album before today. El Condor Pasa has a Renfaire quality to it, but the ratio of infectious bangers to inscrutable treacle is high. Love this.
Classic. Art Garfunkle is underappreciated as a singer
Great stuff.
pretty and special with some iconic songs on the tracklist
Pretty loaded album, this has to be widely accepted as their best based on the preponderance of classics alone. I have to say, starting the album with “Bridge…” is an inexplicable choice. Regardless, this is a classic.
I just want to confirm the details of Cecilia… “Come on home Making love in the afternoon with Cecilia Up in my bedroom (making love) I got up to wash my face When I come back to bed Someone's taken my place” I mean that’s some quick turn shit. Wash your face and your girl is with someone else!?! Damn Cecilia! Love me some The Boxer. Overall a strong album with some classic song writing. Not quite a 5 for me though. 4.25
Fantastic album with some of their greatest work. Bridge of Troubled water is such a strong opener for an album. Cecilia still quite catchy. The Boxer and Only Living Boy in New York two of their best songs as well
I love this album. I've listened to it so many times over the years.
Great folk rock album
Started slow and not really enjoyable for me, until Cecilia kicked in. Standout tracks: - Cecilia - Keep the Customer Satisfied
4/5
Quite delightful.
The world deserves more album covers this awkward. My earliest exposure to Simon & Garfunkel comes by way of TV advertisements at my grandparents house for some sort of commemorative box set on QVC. It is one of those few inexplicable memories that seared into my mind and won't leave. I can still picture the videos of singing on bridges with water running under them... With that out of my system, kicking things off with the title track is a bold move. Just a damned solid folk ballad that swells beautifully with string accompaniment through the back section. Cecilia is a low-key ripper -- I swear I've heard this one or at least the progression before. Like to the point where I can nearly sing along from muscle memory. I'm so confused. The Boxer is a classic as well. Just high-quality folk songwriting that's really hard to argue with. Baby Driver is the closest thing I think this gets to folk-rock territory -- honestly dig it. Not an album I plan to revisit any point in the near future, but I'm glad to have experienced it. Paul Simon is a hell of a songwriter and the songs themselves are arranged nicely. Just not something I could see myself throwing on of my own volition. For what it is this scores high. 4 / 5
I just watched the movie baby driver. wooo. 4 stars
Started off a bit slow, but then got right into the Paul Simon that I know and love. Perfect for a snowy day. Calm for the most part, but has some more up tempo "bangers".
Already listened to it. * Beautiful production and songwriting
Embarrassed to say that I’ve never heard of them, but I’m so glad I was recommended this album. Right off the bat it’s an amazing listen. Awesome album.
Thank god for Paul Simon
I was a teenage babysitter and this was one of the albums that was in the house. So I played this so often. Not a bad song on it.
Soothing, original, timeless
A classic. Added several songs to my listening library.
Stands up well.
I see how they’ve inspired many current artists such as Taylo, Phoebe and more
Very good album ! Typically Simon&Garfunkel really liked it
Banger
4 Stars (11/15)
Classic.
4⭐️/5 [11.28.2024] 01.07.2026
In terms of song-writing, this album is spectacular. Really lovely songs, with great melodies and stories. The lyrics are beautiful. I love the little musical flavours they add in, just chiming in with little accents and notes. The Boxer is a great example, as it has that kind of ambient drum popping up, various woodwind instruments, and then the swelling violins. I enjoyed this.
Iconic album by an iconic duo. Love the conflictual love/hate, sadness/joy vibes on this one.
The last Simon & Garfunkel, but not the least! Folk/pop at its best, brillant songwriting with warm and melancholic interpretation.
хороший, спокойный рок
Folk rock. Varios megahits. Un 4.
It was good! Kinda passed me by but some of the songs are great
poggers!
Thankfully, the rest of the album isn't as morose as the title track opener. An obvious classic that signaled a long, successful career for Paul Simon and a lifetime of near-irrelevance for the other guy.
Classis Simon and Garfunkel album. Plenty of hit songs and great harmonies. Very chilled out and easy to listen to with a pleasant folk vibe. I really like this album and the rest of their work together. I'm sure I will be listening to this one many more times.
This is not my favorite Simon & Garfunkel album. I find the title track to be a bit mawkish, and there are a couple tracks that are neither here nor there. That being said, the good songs on this album are fantastic. Their rendition of “El Condor Pasa” is beautiful and it’s very cool that Simon translated the lyrics into English himself. “Cecilia” is so fun and exuberant and is one of my favorite S&G tracks. The harmonies on “So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright” are mesmerizing. “The Boxer” and “The Only Living Boy in New York” are some of their finest storytelling. I just really love Simon & Garfunkel and even one of their “worst” albums (in my opinion) is full of beautiful tracks with a lot to love. 8.5/10
I like most of the songs, but wouldn’t want to own the album which is what makes it a 5 for me. I would skip a few of the lesser known songs.
I’ve always known about this folk-rock duo, but have never listened to them. Needless to say, they did not disappoint. The vocals of the pair compliment each other incredibly well. Simon really pours his heart and creativity into the lyrics of these songs, with tracks like “Keep the Customer Satisfied” and “Why Don’t You Write Me?” coming to mind. Overall, solid record. Favorite track: Bridge Over Troubled Water — I had never heard this song before and was surprised to see how many covers of it from other artists exist out there. Especially by some big names like Aretha Franklin, Elvis, and Johnny Cash. Absolutely wild.
loved it - lots of bangers
Great album spoiled by the cringeworthy version of bye bye love. Whoever thought that hand clapping monstrosity was worthy of inclusion needs a good talking to! It lost them a star!
Beautiful folk album with soaring harmonies
favourite song - bridge over troubled water favourite lyric - in the clearing stands a boxer / and a fighter by his trade / and he carries the reminders / of every glove that laid him down / or cut him till he cried out in his anger and his shame / "i am leaving, i am leaving" but the fighter still remains cover - 5/10 whatever album overall - 4/5 JKHDZHJKASHJKKHJKJHD
Damn was this nostalgic. Reminds me of road trips growing up. Harmonies are so beautiful bruh, some songs are kinda filler-ish but still so beautiful and doesn't take anything away from the other stuff. Fav Songs: Bridge Over Troubled Water, Keep the Customer Satisfied, The Boxer
Really fun folk album
This is pretty great. I know they’re acclaimed but hadn’t really listened to them much before. They’re a bit like a more wistful Fleetwood Mac. Quite folky which I like. I saw a video of them performing Scarborough Fair the other day which was really good too (despite their American mispronunciation of ‘Scarborough’). I like these guys. I’m getting more into folk thanks to a certain Nick Drake, and Simon & Garfunkel scratch a similar itch. Will listen again.
A good one but not as good as some of the other Garfunkel record I think. But I always find myself loving anything Art is on - who would have thought?
My least favorite, of pretty much all S&G songs, is Bridge. After that, fuckin' hits. Every last one of them. Well, Bridge was as well, but I mean in my book.
Thoughts before listening: Simon and Garfunkel are iconic 60s folk rock. The title track is a classic for sure, but its not one of my favorites. The rest of this album though contains some of the best songs of that decade. Review: So I certainly understand why the title track is so universally praised, but its just so overproduced that it rubs me the wrong way or something. I just want Simon and Garfunkel to play fun little folk songs I guess, which they do quite a bit on this album. "Cecilia", "The Boxer", "Baby Driver", and "The Only Living Boy in New York" all fit that description perfectly. I'll give this 4-stars for how much I enjoy those songs.
more fun and listenable than I associate with Simon
Bridge Over Troubled Water El Condor Pasa (If I Could) Cecilia The Boxer The Only Living Boy in New York
- The first half to two-thirds of this album is unreal. The initial, titular track through "The Boxer" (which always makes me start to tear up) is a simply phenomenal mix of melody, lyricism, and existential fragility. - I appreciate that the "world music" influences (such as the flute in "El Condor Pasa") feel natural and unimposing. - The final few tracks just largely fail to grip me? Maybe I am just too familiar with the greatest hits?
....
Great harmonies. Good shit.
Man, these Simon and Garfunkel albums aren't holding up as albums as well as I thought they would for me. Thought this would be an easy 5 stars. But for every great track (The Only Living Boy in New York, The Boxer), there's a pretty lazily written one where they're just coasting (So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright). Still, the highs are great.
Great album. Lots of songs I’ve never heard before but loved like El Condor Pasa and The Boxer
Hell of an opener for an album. Just an incredible finisher of a duo career. Apart from the hits, I have never heard the rest of this album. There were several moments when I caught myself saying, “that sound like X”. Which just goes to show just how widespread their influence is. I think this album is exceptional. I really want to give it 4.5 stars cause nuance you know. (Which would be that I probably would have a couple of skips on this album upon relistening. But it’s an exceptional album.
It's hard to be objective about this, as I know so many of the songs already. They're still great songs, though. Among the ones I didn't know is Baby Driver, which caught my attention. It's a great tune.
I love "El Condor Pasa" and think this is generally a really strong album, but there are some weaker tracks, especially "Bye Bye Love". 4.5 stars
Great. 4.5
4.5
A VIBEEEEEE -- My drive through a heavily tree'd area with all of these fall leaves and vibrant colours and the sun shining... what a perfect album for today!
Not the greatest album to listen to while driving around making sales… but I did forget how much I enjoy their music - it’s been far too long since I sat down and had a good listen to SnG.
Katherine notes: DISCLAIMER --> KAtherine listed to yesterday's album after I uploaded notes. I didn't think shed have time to listen. Kath's notes from yesterdays album are as followed: - I give it a 3/5. some of the songs i like and would enjoy if i was in the mood for them and feeling angsty! Some I got bored but i still thought sounded interesting. Today's Album: Katherine's notes: tune after tune btw. obvz already know the popular ones but enjoying! 5 stars from me! it is much more my vibe and what i would listen to regularly. Very nice folk rock and just lovely little lyrics and tunes. I especially liked baby driver and hadn't heard that one before i dont think katherine's rating: 5/5 Charlotte's notes: Love bridge over throubled waters very beautful and soft. El condor pasa has always been one of my favourite songs it's so light and folky such a lovely song. I have never liked cecilia cos it reminds me of the vamps. Keep the customer satisfied is nice small towny kind of song its very perky. The boker is a great song i love the instrumentals. But i have overplayed it bc its in my relax platlist so kinda sick of it now hahahahaha. I like baby driver very perky summer song. OVerall el condor pasa is my fave song 5/5 album. I have never liked the only living boy in new york. Charlotte's rating: 5/5 Kathryn notes: I loved it. Very backgroundy/ sitting on bus/ bedroom chilling vibes. Agree with charlotte's cecilia statement. Its just a calming lovely nice album which I found sincere and relaxing. Im quite strict about 5/5 though. I think i might ignore it because its backgroundy, so i dont like sit and feeeellll the words which id have to do for a 5/5/ I think a 4. Kathryn's rating: 4/5 Average rating: 4.5/5 Katherine's rating
Uppáhaldslög: Baby driver, bridge over troubled water, Cecilia. Instrumental 10/10 Að mínu mati: 7/10
Only news i need is the weather report
Classic song writing.
Really great album. Maybe 1/2 songs that stuck out as below par compared to the rest of the songs. Also I think I'd need to be in a certain mood to decide to listen to this album. I think this deserves a 4 though.
Legitimamente un buen disco, aguante garrafón y telefunken
Nice album, not too long with some of their most famous songs Personally I dont think tops some of Simon’s solo work but still up there
Never really thought about this being folky and that being their success moment. Def classified as dad rock bc I knew a number of them from car rides
An iconic album. This one was part of my early childhood, and dispite never owning it myself when listening yesterday I was smiling and signing along.
I'm a big S&G fan so always gonna like this
Classic
Echoey soft touch folksy songs crafted with love and a surprisingly intricate instrumentation, with one of my favorite songs of all-time (The Boxer). 4.5/5
Another great surprise! This was funny and folky, a great mix of humour and heart, I loved it.
Still holds up after all these years!
There's something about Art Garfunkel that makes me enjoy Paul Simon's music more. This album is great. Folksy but with amazing orchestral elements and some melancholic vocals. Also, who doesn't love a cover of Bye Bye Love? Favorite song: The Boxer Least favorite: None? Knew before? Just the hits.
First time listener. Never been a big Simon & Garfunkel guy but this one’s a pretty solid album.
Amazing album, full of iconic songs and great hidden gems. I think this is a four star album that can become a five star one with future listens.
Album is interesting. I'm not sure that I'd listen to it again all the way through, but there are some bits that are kind of catchy.
Really enjoyed. Some real classics in here 8/10
Good stuff
I love this album
Love love love S&G.
4 stars
Not as direct as their other albums, but got to have a relisten before I can do it justice.
All time classic. Easy listening perfectly performed and produced.
Excellent folk-rock record. I enjoy S&G's music much more than Simon's solo music. It is a shame that this act was relatively short-lived. Even though they only had five albums they had many iconic hits. "The Boxer" and "Cecilia" are my favorites from this album.
Klassiker.
Bridge over Troubled Water is the fifth and final studio album by Simon & Garfunkel, originally released in 1970. I'm used to this group being more folk-centric, but this album incorporates more genres/influences than I was prepared for. I'm hearing elements of rock, R&B, gospel, jazz, world music, and pop. Their OG folky fans were probably pissed at this. Overall this album has a very "artsy" feel. Like that one old hippie in your neighborhood who goes to farmers markets and wears turquoise jewelry probably loves this album. The songwriting is solid, as is to be expected from these two. I just love Paul Simon's voice. Good stuff.
Really good album.
classic
The songs on this album are really well written and sung. A lot of classics that I'm only now hearing for the first time. Glad I got to listen to it.
A couple corny songs but for the most part this album was great.
Not a huge fan. I liked a lot more of Paul Simon’s solo stuff. But Cecelia was on the radio constantly when I was young. Bridge over troubled water is a good song, but slow. Another case, of a very good album, just not my cup if tea
Some of the greatest songs ever, but some others just feel like filler. Very close to 5 stars, but just misses the mark.
Honestly, It's a shame Simon & Garfunkel broke up after this album because they brought their A game with Bridge Over Troubled Water. Everything in this album is absolutely sublime from the vocals, the music, and the lyrics being absolutely great. This album never lost the signature Simon & Garfunkel sound but made all the necessary improvements to make it the great album it is. This album also runs at the perfect pace being fast-paced and fun throughout. This album might not be perfect but it is clear that Simon & Garfunkel went out with a bang. Best Song: Bridge Over Troubled Water Worst Song: The Boxer (Side note: As another reviewer pointed out, yes, you can give Simon a beard by covering Garfunkel's face and yes, it is funny) (Second Side Note: Since this is my last Simon & Garfunkel, I thought it would be necessary to rank all of their albums so here you go, 1. Bridge Over Troubled Water 2. Bookends 3. Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme)
4 maybe 5
Not a bad album, lots of good tracks that are well known. So many of these have been covered or sampled too so it all feel quite familiar. I 'm sure it was a more legendary album when fresh.
Fav: Bridge Over Troubled Water Least Fav: Why Don’t You Write Me
aite
Great album with some epic highs, like the insanely moving title track. Sad to say this can't be a 5 though, because there were a few lackluster tracks and a couple that downright irritated me (did the horns have to be THAT loud?). Still great record though, Simon & Garfunkel were an awesome pair
Cool album. Three songs that I really like. Overall, a very good album.
This album is awesome. So many top tier songs including: - Bridge Over Troubled Water - Cecilia - The Boxer - Only Living Boy in NY - Bye Bye Love
Nice album, lot of dynamics
Bit dull but the title track is indeed a beautiful song. Never sure how I feel about Simon and Garfunkel. I think I like them more than I don't like them
I've listened to this album quite a lot over the last 3 decades since I was introduced to Simon and Garfunkel. This album still sounds as good today as it did when I first "discovered" it.
4.5 not 4. felt like simon and garfunkel which is a positive.
Beautiful tracks, catchy tracks, and a few corny tracks.
If you’re planning a barbecue and need the perfect soundtrack, Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water is a fantastic choice 4
I grew up with the impression Simon & Garfunkel were pretty cringe, but it turns out I actually really like them. A couple of great songs, a few good ones, and a couple that missed for me on this album. Fave Track: The Boxer Rating: 4
Not of fan of the pair; never sat down to listen to them. I probably already knew half of the songs, and listening to the album was a really pleasant experience, even if they are not what I usually listen to. 8/10
Classic
Eher ruhiger, aber viele tolle Lieder drauf.
++: Bridge over Troubled Water, Keep the Customer Satisfied, So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright, Baby Driver, Why Don't You Write Me +: El Condor Pasa (If I Could), Bye Bye Love +-: The Boxer, The Only Living Boy in New York, Song for the Asking -: Cecilia 9,0/10
Bridge over troubled water - 5 star song Also liked So long, Frank Lloyd Wright
bridge over troubled water routinely makes my favorite resident cry :(
Banger after banger - only complaint is that Simon is such a great writer of diverse songs he can’t help himself and the tone of the album is a bit disjunct
Good record. BOTW, Cecelia and the Boxer are some of the better songs ever recorded. The rest of the album is good with varying musical styles
Really liked the opening song and the vocals
Simon & Garfunkel er for mig mest “Sound of silence” men beviser med dette album at de også er meget mere.
Very enjoyable. Favs: - The Boxer - So Long Frank Lloyd Wright - El Condor Pasa Least fav: - Keep the customer satisfied - I don't like the big band arrangement. I prefer other Simon and Garfunkel albums. I've heard the title track too many times. It was probably really something on first listen. But I now find it a bit irritating and overwrought.
Pleasant melodies. Baby Driver. This album has both.
Great record!
Personally, I'm not that keen on the overblown title track, though I do recognize it's greatness, with the mood being similar to The Beatles 'Let It Be'. There's plenty of goodies scattered throughout the record, like the bossa groove of 'So Long Frank Lloyd Wright' the sleepy 'The Only Living Boy In New York' and the bouncy 'Cecelia'. The country numbers are less successful and the two best cuts are the anthemic 'The Boxer and the exotic sounding 'El Condor'. Overall though, I probably prefer the 'dry' sound of the previous Bookends album.
Im not sure if I like or dislike this album, but all I can say that it has a strong emotional impact. The first 3 songs bring back such strong visual memories like a wave. Summer camp as a kid, dad's car, travelling in Peru (it's like the only song known on the panpipes), my Aunts funeral (Cecila). It's kinda weird I've never sought any of this out but its appeared at moments in my live almost by accident. Is it good, I dont know but it gets a reaction and that's something.
If you hear this album playing from the other room, just be aware I'm feeling emotionally vulnerable and have put Bridge Over Troubled Water on again. It hurts the spot for nostalgia comfort, story tunes, benign things that don't need attention and those sing-a-long hits. It is naff as fuck though, love it.
Individually, there are many great tracks - plenty of emotion and nostalgia - but does it flow together as an album, I'm not so sure, feels a bit up & down between tracks. Still, those standout tracks are gold!
Very good
A good album, I like Simon and Garfunkel. I liked the songs Bridge Over Troubled Water, The Boxer, Baby Driver, The Only Boy Living In New York and Bye Bye Love the most.
I had this on CD for a while, but listening to it depressed me. It's a great album, but not good for my mood, I gave it to a girlfriend at the time because she seemed to like it. I know there are a lot of classics on this album and I can microdose these maudlin masterpieces, but I can't listen to an entire album without wanting to dress up in my finest brown corduroy, find a bench in Central Park in the fall to sob on.
Only listened to part of this but have listened in the past. Will come back for sure. Some big songs on here!
It was just so pleasant.
Great.
Nice. Best songs are Bridge Over Troubled Waters, The Boxer and Bye Bye Love. The rest are great too 4/5
Beautiful highs with the most nothing of lows, as a final album from a legendary group it ends up being one of the best despite consistency issues.
Decent S&G hits, particularly the first 3 tracks + The Boxer, w/ an extra bonus live cover of "Bye Bye Love". I assume they'll show up here again sooner or later w/ Sounds of Silence.
This should’ve been the only Simon and Garfunkel album here
The first song was like ear porn. Great vocalist and songwriting in this one. Favorite Song: Bridge Over Troubled Water Rating: 4.3/5
Great, consistent Folk Pop record that's chock full of the duo's heaviest hitters.
Beautiful opener… and overall fun album. Much more diverse and eclectic than I expected, considering the “weight” of Bridge as a song. And another example of great art being produced in a state of chaos, as apparently Paul and Art came to hate each other intensely that lasts to this day during the creation of this album.
Right?
Great 60/70' revival sounds.
Is this a good album? Yes... Is this a well written and well performed album? Yes... Is this a 5/5 album, no, unfortunately not for me. I did enjoy this all, but it's not really my thing, and I cannot explain in words why.
simpático 7/10
Delightfully chill
有点民谣风格,还是很棒的
As a child of the late 80s these songs still dominated the Easy Listening station well into my late childhood. Such a great album and brings back memories of late night rainy drives in the back of the station wagon.
The only reason it's not 5 stars is that I've heard their other albums.
Good, honest Folk tunes
Well crafted folk songs that have mass appeal
Clearly a classic. Very beautiful and not one I’ve listened to in this fashion. Just heard the songs elsewhere. Such gorgeous voices. I’m also glad they aren’t all super long songs! I like the story telling and humour, and the harmonies
A few bangers, overall a little not my style tho.
Moustache cover deserves a 5 tbh. Content, not quite, very good though. 83/100
Very very good. Didn’t realize I knew so much.
Generally really enjoyed but standouts were still the songs I already knew
I think that I must’ve listened to this album more than I thought as a kid because most of it came back to me while listening. Bridge Over Troubled Water has a very annoying theater kid association to me but I love it
Solid all the way through, a couple classics including Cecilia which had been a party sing-a-long staple for us
For some reason, I didn't want to listen to this. Maybe some overplayed songs on classic rock radio? IDK, but I did listen, and it's as good as ever. Great song after great song ... they were the best.
A beautiful album from the duo, but I much prefer the upbeat tunes. I absolutely love Simon’s voice, but the slower tunes don’t connect with me as much.
still so good
Paul Simon is a musical folk madman. Incredible diversity of genres on this album, and Art Garfunkel’s vocals bring a haunting beauty to the whole record. My one gripe with this record is the mixing/production is all over the place, making some songs hard to listen to. Still very enjoyable!
I remember being immensely bored by “bridge over troubled water” as a kid when my friends mom was raving about it. That song still is a bore. It made me wrongfully dismiss this album. Because then comes “El Condor Pasa” and “Cecilia” and plenty of other pop gold nuggets.
So much different and more mature (full?) than the last S & G album I listened to. I liked this one better.
Klang interessant
their last album together. one went on to have a successful solo career, the other did not.
Certainly one of the classics in the history of popular music. I had not listened to this album for probably like 30 years. Used to like it a lot. But now I think it is a collection of some very good work but unfortunately also some poorer stuff. If I had reviewed this album in the 80s I would have given it 5, but now it'll have to be a 4.
These guys can get really epic with their slower songs. The faster ones, apart from Cecilia, were less impressive, but I was enjoying this a lot until the stupid cover of Bye Bye Love came in and took me out completely. Stand-out: The Boxer
Good album.
Great song writing and vocals. This is a all around great album.
J'aime bien ces deux compères, mais j'en raffole pas à en renverser ma bassine. Tout de même, rendons à Garfunkel ce qui appartient à Garfield, c'est d'la qualité mes bébés
Singing is great.
