Asså det är ju bra men också lite för konstigt
3.23
Reminds me of acoustic Florence and the Machine. Quirky without being alienating
Some hits on it but maybe just not in the mood.
Requires focus to listen. Appreciate the vibe and originality.
Spannend, das erste mir völlig unbekannte und neueste 2020 Album. Ok boomer. c
This sounded pretty much like I expected it to sound. Quite an original vision and the accolades make sense to me. A little too art installation for my taste.
För Allansson del.
This was cool and different. Has kind of an unconventional garage band/improv sound which makes sense considering how it was recorded. I liked “Relay” and “On I go”.
I like Fiona Apple and dug this album when it came out. It isn’t on the same level as Tidal, but still solid. 3.25:5
an interesting album from the mercurial miss apple. a tortured soul layering her poetry on tribal beats with staccato rap style vocals.
Definitely some interesting experimental sounds in here. Not really my cup of tea. Still may be worth a second listen to try to digest the lyrics more.
I don'T know what to make of this album. I know this has a lot of artistic merits and I usually like disjointed art rock albums, but nothign really sticks with this one for me. Not bad, but not something I feel the need to "get"
Perceived as a masterpiece when it got out, but did it really pass the test of time? Was it just the excitment of a new long awaited record?
I enjoyed this album more than expected. Some arrangements are crazy and I loved it. That said, it kind of drown itself in artsy and avantgarde twists for too long. The album feels a little samey. 3 stars will do it!
Unfortunately this FA project had the kind of sound that I don't normally gravitate towards. It had good moments, but there was a lot that didn't resonate with me.
Pretty interesting but can be a bit repetitive at times.
Previously rated: Tidal (2/5) *********************** An album from 2020? That makes it the 2nd newest one on here (that I've gotten) after the horrendous Heaux Tales of 2021. Thankfully, this is much better than that crap. I even prefer it to Tidal. What I didn't like were the dolphin noises and when her voice sounds like a rough Stevie Nicks, or when she tries to be Lorde. The best thing about it is the production. Best track: Fetch The Bolt Cutters
Another album where I think whoever chose this album was playing a joke since two of her other albums are way better and I can’t imagine 3 Fiona apple albums on this list.
This was really interesting as my second Fiona Apple album. I liked it but I think I need more time with it.
Maybe need to listen again.
Where have I seen this before? I still can't place it, maybe I saw it in some other list. Anyway, this is fine, verging on pretty good. It feels very homemade, because it was. Unusually for me, the lyrics are the standout for me here, perhaps because the mix emphasises them so much. Certainly the amateur instrumentation doesn't deserve the lead, but I like its rough edges. Newspaper is a standout, great, personal, and angry song. I liked Under the Table a lot as well. There were moments that this bored and annoyed me, but there were also moments of genuine enjoyment, which is rare enough for me on this list.
There are some artists I listen to for the generator, and when finished think I can now tick them off my list and never listen to them again thanks very much. So, you can imagine my surprise when I got another Fiona Apple album. The last one didn’t do anything for me but I liked the first track. This one I actually liked less. I felt it was boring despite the artist/producers trying to make it sound fresh and innovative, it felt they were trying too hard. The longer I listened however the more I thought it was okay so it went from 2 stars to 3.
This one was weird for me - there were a lot of parts of this that, if the whole album had been like them I would become obsessed and listen to this on repeat. And then other parts where I wished it wasn’t music I had to hear and wanted to just turn it off. The weird thing for me was that both of those feelings came in each song. So I’m bummed out about not being able to love it.
I love her voice, but not the music on this one. Need to listen to something else she’s done.
Tidal was a far superior album. Heavy Ballon’s and Cosmonauts were the two best songs on the album.
Quite enjoyed this. Bouncy and fun without being vacuous.
This sounds like a therapy session was recorded and set to music. The music is pretty good. Experimental with strange percussion. The lyrics aren't terrible, but I really don't like the talk/sing delivery at all. Music - 4 Vocals - 2
If you like Fiona Apple, this is good. I know she is divisive.
I hated this album the first time I heard it. Then it grew on me as time went by. I don’t seek it out, but will give all the songs a listen when they pop up I appreciate it for what it is.
Not my favorite Apple
I’m not really sure how I feel about this project but I don’t hate it????
Reminds me of Zappa, or Miles Davis in the 70s. Some musicians are so intelligent and disinterested in being commercially successful that, bored with every convention, they drift off into a land of incredible imagination. But they fail to realize that the conventions are the pathways that connect them to listeners. Fiona Apple has made deeply interesting music of tremendous beauty and emotional power (When the Pawn being my favorite). All of this album is deeply interesting - the chains have indeed been broken - but I find no emotional connection in this music. (Not talking about lyrics - my brain won't focus on lyrics; for some reason it's always distracted by the music.) So its super interesting, but not the slightest bit moving.
Very raw album. Almost a bit unlistenable at times but that's kind of cool.
Not sure what to make of this. Not my usual sort of thing, but I quite liked it. She's got a good voice, music was good and well plated. And yeah I enjoyed listening to it. Probably won't buy it but hey ho. Got to be worth a 3.
I remember listening to Fetch The Bolt Cutters upon release and being swept away with it just like everyone else. Years later, I'm still impressed by the the risks and experiments that Apple entertains, but not as stunned by the songwriting as I once was.
Mukavaa lyriikkaa, ei niin tosikkomaisella otteella, mutta välillä tulee selväksi että osataan sitä laulaakin. Laulajan asenne tulee selväksi, rautainen mimmi on kyseessä. Tuotanto on kiva ottaa selville sillä osittain oikein kivoja saundeja.
Pretty good
• 3/5 • I like the title track and a couple others in isolation. • Unfortunately, the repetitiveness of the rhythm, percussion, vocal cadence, etc across tracks dilutes and degrades the overall listening experience.
2.5, her other album with the extremely long title is better, a couple of good original tunes here though.
Ikke like tilgjengelig som debutalbumet Tidal. Når heller ikke opp til «When the pawn…» Likevel har den kvaliteter som jeg liker. Et album som nok tjener på flere gjennomlyttinger. Blir en svak 3’er fra meg.
This is one of those Maybe A Four In The Future albums. I kinda like the experimentation and rawness of it, but something about it just being so... acoustic/plain doesn't really grab me for a lot of it? Not bad though.
This was a challenging listen as someone who usually prioritizes vibes/instrumentals over lyrics. Fiona demands full attention here, and while I usually find it distracting to read lyrics while listening, here it felt essential (and rewarding!). Her delivery is so erratic at times that if you can’t follow by ear, you’ll miss the core of what makes this album work: the storytelling. And that storytelling is great! The production complements her voice beautifully, with little musical details that feel like responses to what she's saying. I won’t revisit this album often, but it did make me reflect on the value of lyricism in a way few albums do, and I have to appreciate that. Standouts: Ladies • Cosmonauts
It didn't take long to realize this was a unique album. The piano playing on the opening song particularly feels strong, while the vocals feel raw and real. It took me a couple of listens to absorb it. I felt like overall this was a powerful album in terms of production and emotion, but some songs just felt flat for me at different spots. I landed at around 3.5 stars though am skewing closer to a High 3.
This felt a bit like spoken word/poetry. Didn't hate it even though it is certainly not something I usually gravitate toward. Very powerful. High 3.
800 albums since the last Fiona Apple album, and this one is 24 years more recent. That was some spooky bone chilling music for sure. Not sure if I necessarily liked it as music but it was something that was definitely an experience to listen to. Felt on edge the entire time while listening. Respected the musical style, but was happy for it to be over.
I didn't get a lot from this, but I learned that my wife listened to it all the time back in the dark days of 2020 and loves it. So that counts for a lot.
A bit zany, nicely written, good vocalist - enjoyed it, mostly. A bit one -note.
Interesting album with tracks that were memorable. Nice lyrics and themes. 3.5
The sound of 2020 lockdown... a little overwhelming, 10.00 album shouldn't include "Ladies"
Noh, vähän pisteitä erikoisuudesta mutta ei tää mitään erikoisen hyvää ole. Aika silleensä perus indie/art poppia, eli vähän sellaista kokeellisempaa, mutta ei nyt kummiskaan liikaa. Ihan mid levy taas. Parhaat: Cosmonauts, Under the Table
nie wiem nie wiem. nie myślę że są tu plecione farmazony a wręcz przeciwnie ale to jest taki album do słuchania w tunelu a niestety nie mam w pobliżu za dużo tuneli.
That was a pretty odd album. Not bad but odd.
I'm not familiar with Fiona Apple's music. I read a profile on her in Grunge Magazine which gives context to her troubled life. This album is interesting artistically; I enjoyed it, especially after learning about the artist. I hope she's doing well. 3.5 stars
7/1001 :: Fiona Apple - Fetch The Bolt Cutters Heard before? ✅ Would I revisit? ➖ Rating: 6 Fav Tracks: Cosmonauts, Fetch The Bolt Cutters, Heavy Balloon I was definitely excited for this when it came out. I’m not a huge Fiona Apple fan but I loved Criminal and was happy when this came around (especially in the middle of Covid). Then Pitchfork gave it a 10 (yes a 10!!). Probably the most overrated Pitchfork review of all time. This album is very abstract. It takes many listens. Too many for me to love it but I commend her for going out on a limb. It’s layered, challenging, and not in the least cookie cutter. I actually kinda wish it was a little easier to listen too because maybe I would like it. There’s a lot of great here but it’s so left of center from a song writing perspective it comes off sporadic sat times. I put down maybe but there’s a better chance I won’t be going back to this…
Side A is a 4 Side B is a 2
Catchy music (especially the beat) with vocals that alternate from weirdly compelling to irritatingly offputting.
not her best, still good
Listened to it a few years ago, I think I sat around a 3.25?
I just love Fiona Apple, but from all her masterpiece albuns, Fetch The Bolt Cutters is not my cup of tea. I feel most of the gome production kinda sparce and not really fitted for her. Some songs like "Relay" and the title "Fetch the bolt cutters" rely so much on repetitive sentences and being such a word wizard as Fiona is, it is such a shame. I also know angeee is one of the main characteristics of Fiona's music and delivery but, honestly, it got tiring in this album. It is still a great listen but I feel a few songs really stand out: " I want you to love me", " Shameika", "rack of his", "cosmonauts". I really hope she writes more thoughtful and tiny happier songs eventually.
Vocals seem a little loud and shrill on the first song I like the madness it's very punky and indie. The 2nd song is mad, I kinda like it but it might take a few Listens to proper enjoy it. The album art is perfect for this album It's very unique, this makes it hard to listen too, however I think it has the potential to grow on me Fetch the bolt cutters is pretty good. The album. Is haunting She is a good singer and her lyrics are smart She loves her bizzare rhythms, certainly keeps the listener on there toes Album began to drag, its mad but it is predictably unpredictable and alotnof the songs follow a similar pattern of madness She is a good singer I thought I would enjoy the album after the first few songs but then it became annoying to listen to after about the halfway point Only the title track I enjoyed enough to add it to my playlist, I skipped through alot of the songs because they just didn't catch my attention. Might have to give it another listen. This album sounds like ADHD Upon the second listen I actually enjoyed a whole lot more, the 2nd half still dragged a liitle but the first half I found enjoyable and mad
I’m not gonna lie, that was pretty weird, but I kind of liked it. It took me three listens to start enjoying it. However, I like music to be love at first listen. Who’s got time for it otherwise. I do like the attitude she sings with. Scrappy.
Pretty good
I loved one of Fiona Apple's older albums but this is a bit too harsh for me.
im not a huge fan Fiona Apple. I have given her a listen several times, and this album
There are a couple of songs on Fetch the Bolt Cutters that are fine, but overall, I just don’t get the hype. The album feels scattered and unfocused, which may be due to the fact it was recorded at home on GarageBand. That rawness might be appealing to some, but to me, it comes across more as undercooked than intimate. Nothing here really pulls me back in for another listen, and I genuinely don’t understand how this ended up with a Grammy win. It’s ambitious, sure, but that doesn’t always mean it works.
It's not bad, but a bit weird... Some very good songs, and some bad ones.
Different
This was my first experience listening to Fiona Apple. To be honest I just don’t think she’s really my vibe. She gives off a kind of eccentric energy that I don’t think is my style. I liked some of the songs quite a lot but the majority of them made me feel weirdly unsettled. I don’t know if it was her voice or just the way she was singing the songs but idk. Still not terrible but I can’t see myself revisiting or being too excited to listen to her other albums in the future. 56/100
Most of these songs would be difficult to hum
Beautifully chaotic. I enjoyed that despite my previous protestations that I prefer music I can sing along to at high volume - this feels cathartic in a completely different way. And I love the percussion and her voice. I feel like this is better than a 3 but not quite a 4, but as I need to pick, I'm going for 3. 3/5
well, i wanted to like this. it's got some good songs! unfortunately they are tracks 1-4, which leaves us with a big ol question mark of an album after that. fiona is all over the place here, with lyrics that are either far too insipid or impenetrably profound, so most of the time it just sounds like she's repeating a random word or phrase she thought sounded cool over some weird droning/warbling/yodeling/sexy-dolphin-noise vocals in the background. her messages are good, so this is frustrating to say the least. the instrumentation is wacky and this definitely does sound like it was made in garageband (which it was). very mixed opinions here, but the long, repetitive, grating stinkers like relay and ladies really bring this down for me. favorites: i want you to love me, shameika, fetch the bolt cutters, under the table
Really liked her voice, didnt put to much attention on the lyrics, the vibe wasnt catchy at all, overal an okay experience
Quirky, but quite likeable Art Pop / Art Rock / Jazz Pop album. A lot of the tracks, for example, "Shameika" reminded me somewhat of The White Stripes,
Piano vocals solo, a la Regina Spektor. Bit of neo soul style too, say Florence Welch. Industrial/dark sounds incorporated. Not my cup of tea but it's fine Best track - Cosmonauts
nice
A simple categorisation in this list is the difference between albums purely set out to entertain and those set out to create art. This is one of the latter - an attempt to do something different. Sometimes those approaches work (Kate Bush) sometimes it sounds a bit like this - a germ of ideas but not compelling enough an execution. I liked this but I just can't imagine listening to it.
I never really got into Fiona Apple, thought I can see the appeal.
Got better as it went along but much of it was too arty for me.
She has great voice. It's not really something I'd listen to a lot but was fine.
It was ok didn't quite understand the theme. Good if you like drawn out piano that's not quite pop but not quite indie.
3/5
More like pineapple 🍍🍍🍍💅💅💅
No knock on Fetch the Bolt Cutters — an album from Fiona Apple that sounds just fine — but I think we should let time shake out the 2020s a little more to really see which records break free before adding them to a list of albums you must hear before you die. That is, unless the compilers have some Nostradamus-like insider info.
I read some of the reviews of this album before I listened to it and I think a lot of people were a little too scathing of her. Some people seem to have painted her as overly whiny and talking about how it's so hard to exist in the music game as a woman, but I didn't really get that sort of vibe from the album. I felt that there was a lot of interesting content and I thought actually musically, it was quite impressive and not as generic and made in simple software like was suggested by many. So I was overall quite pleased with my listening experience. Comfortable three stars.
Vocals and flow is like Tidal. Album was ok.
Did not like it as much as her older stuff. Still mostly liked listening though
öberraschend nice gsi aber paar lieder au gar ned und die wo nice gsi send hets sie zum teil met eme weirde part verkekt
I'm not really sure how an album from 2020 is even on this list. Is this a cool album? I can see why it struck a chord with people who were locked down and scared during the early stages of the pandemic. It's weird, and reminds me that I liked Fiona Apple back in the day. 3⭐️
Ok album. Nothing amazing. Good background music.
Parts of this are really quite good but, once again, almost every song is longer than it needs to be. The realy problem is that its inclusion on this list smacks of publishers scrabbling for reasonable new releases for a new edition at a time when the supply of new releases had just dried up. There's no way it has earned its place.
This album is a bit too weird for me and that says something. It reminds me of stuff from SPRINTS and Wet Leg. I remember enjoying Apple's first album (I gave it 5 stars). Her songwriting is superb, but the music is just off-putting. That's all I have to say today. 3 stars for "Fetch the Bolt Cutters".
Mi si spezza il cuore Fiona
meh? c'è qualcosa di salvabile ma volevo mi piacesse molto più di così
Percussion is really cool. Chill music, easy listening
Extremely raw and emotional songwriting. Love the way she is literally playing the room. The lyrics hit hard and it feels like you are listening to each track as she plucks it from the ether. Will definitely revisit but couldn't fully connect with it
The negative reviews are hilarious because the point of the album is exactly what they don't like. I've always meant to listen to this and thanks to the list I finally have. It's figuratively and literally a deconstructed criminal. Its not really what I would go out and listen to again, but if someone said that they liked this album I'd probably want to be their friend.
3.0
Not the first Fiona Apple album I'm grabbing but it's fine, nice comeback I guess she only hits when I'm in a certain mood
Sometimes it totally clicks for me, all the chaos and weirdness makes sense and I feel the music and lyrics and the period in which it was written is all lines up beautifully. The rest of the time it's a mess and I kind of hate it. One to try again in the future maybe. 19/02/25
This is a good album! 3/5
I don’t think I’d listen to this again. It was interesting, but not for me
A bit all over but some nice tunes here
Inventive, but I just wasn't overly taken with this
I hope this isn't someone's introduction to Fiona Apple. Wasn't it a covid album? Also, Fiona is great but I still think this is too new for the list.
Chaotic, love this for her. But not for me
mid
Meh
Probably my favourite album so far but definitely not the kind of music I’d usually listen to
I like Fiona Apple, so I know I'd like this, but I'm in a terrible mood and really can't appreciate this for what it is. I can definitely say the barking dogs would suck no matter what kind of mood I was in 3.75
Your incredibly talented, but highly obnoxious, overly emotional little sister just went through a break up and decided to come over to let off some steam.
Catchy and edgy but not that different from the rest of what I know of her music
More interesting than expected, though not my jam.
Eh
This is interesting stream of consciousness lyrics matched with avant garde music. It's certainly not pretty music and lyrics, but Fetch The Bolt Cutters is interesting and intensely personal. It's not my favourite, but it is compelling.
This was kind of cool. Felt very DIY. The style of music wasn't really my kind of thing but I can see the appeal.
I was expecting to dislike this after seeing it described as "art-pop" and "experimental", but it was surprisingly decent. Good vocals, emotive lyrics, odd enough to be interesting without just being unpleasant. Ultimately though, I'm a simple person and my preferences tend towards things that are a little more mainstream ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Too quirky for my taste.
This is so different than anything else that it must be good, so 3 stars or C+.
This is so recent! 2020 is basically right now. I like the idea of Fiona Apple, although the reality of Fiona Apple is more hit and miss. Regina Spektory with a few goat yodels. Highlights: 'Under the Table', 'Relay' (relay-table), 'Drumset' Lowlight: 'Cosmonauts' (don't yell at me fiona!)
This album was not at all what I was expecting. I don't really go for experimental serious, but this album wasn't bad. Some germs of good stuff. And also a lot of weird, discordant squawking.
Percussive piano, jazzy bass, and madcap drumming - it's an unstable teetering foundation on the cusp of spinning out of control, giving the album a nervous unsettled mood. Despite the emphasis on rhythm, the grooves never take off, stuttering, stoping, starting, remaining constantly off kilter. It's a big sound in a small package, like an experimental orchestra rehearsing in a crowded storage room, for a cluttered claustrophobic aesthetic. Pretty cool, but don't really get the hype. Favorites: Ladies
The percussion on this is really interesting and I like that this whole album feels like it was made in her house. The more intense moments feel earned as well. Probably not something I would go back to much, but I’m glad I listened. Favorites were Shameika, Under The Table, Ladies, and Heavy Balloon.
6.5/10
3.4
I've realized that Fiona Apple is not for me
Nothing too special to me
Classically bizzare
One of the more notable things about this album was the story telling and the meaning behind the lyrics
Ich würde 3½ geben könnte ich, die ersten 3 Songs haben mich reingezogen aber gegen Ende ging es mir aufn Sack. Kann es aber sehr appreciaten
I liked it but I shouldve liked it more.
инструментал замечательный, винтажный, атмосферный, знатный. вокал сильный, необычный. чисто авангард, фем версия джека стобера.
Yeah, it's a little weird. I like Fiona Apple sometimes, and sometimes she's just too extra.
My cat does what she did in the end of I Want You To Love Me It's unusual. I like it
I thought I looked Fiona Apple, but found this album hard work. It's difficult to articulate; I like what she is saying. I struggle with the way she is saying it, and there is too much repetitive chanting. Her writing seems deeply personal; I think she is a true artist. I simply didn't like this album as much as I wanted to!
I like what she's about, but I can't resonate :/ I'm also shocked that this is a 2020 album....the whole time I was listening I thought it was from the 90s
Didn't expect to like this one at all but kinda did. I appreciated her at least. Nothing memorable other than her positive appeal.
Didn’t mind it, but found it a bit weird at times. Another one I would rate a 2.5, but I am rounding it up to a 3.
Wel interessante sound, maar al met al niet helemaal mijn ding denk ik. Toch 3 sterren voor de effort.
I’m between a 3 and a 4 on this one. I enjoyed parts of it.
School House Rock for adults. The name was familiar so I looked her up and was surprised to find out that this is not some new upcoming singer that made a debut during covid but someone who has been around since the 90s. She has an interesting voice that feels unrefined and after reading the wiki maybe that was what she was going for? Made with garage band and you can tell, there is a heavy amateur sense throughout. I didn’t dislike any of the songs but I didn’t really like them either. A nice luke warm 5/10
i wanted to like this more than i liked it. what perplexes me is that half the song could sound like actual crap (in my opinion) and then the next half it was surreal and interesting and melted in my ears. if i could just chop most of the songs in half and take out 1 or 2, i would rate this a 5. all my tumblr girlies will hate me for this :/
It's quite quirky in the composition and delivery, with a lot more experimentation compared to her earlier stuff. It's not bad.. a good number of songs are really nicely put together musically and have something about them. There ARE some good songs in here, but I'm not feeling the overall vibe, or I'm just not tuned into the energy of it enough. I did find myself liking it more and more as it went on though, so maybe it's a grower. 3.5 rounded down.
ojämnt album. shameika är en otroligt bra låt. man gillar ju att det är lite skitigt och konstigt inspelat
Fun lyrics, but I didnt care much for the music. It was alright.
It was a lot less annoying than I expected after reading the Wikipedia article. Tim found it annoying, but I kind of liked it.
Nichts für zwischendurch, aber gut zu hören.
It was alright. She writes some interesting lyrics.
Two 90's female singer-songwriters in a row. I prefer the Bjork album to this one. Having heard two other Fiona Apple albums, this one is a bit like the other two in terms of sound. She's authentic for sure. Not my kind of music and I know there is a perceived need to include more modern albums on this list but this feels like a bit of a cop-out to me. Seems to me like the authors knew they needed modern music and just chose an album by an artist already on the list.
I want you to love me, but I'm going to make it hard for you to love me. The easy descriptions (daring, difficult, challenging), while fine, don't capture how fiercely engaging each tune is. Who is Shameika anyway? Where'd those dogs come from? Why are we at this dinner party from hell? There are some cuts that don't really work (the attitude can easily detour into repetitiveness), but when she's on, she's deftly captivating.
I do appreciate that Fiona Apple chases her muse wherever it leads and makes the music she wants to. As a listener, it's way too much for me. There are musical passages that are engaging — killer even — and some lyrical and melodic passages that are gold, but taken as a whole... whoa. It's asphyxiating — there's no room to breathe.
Never heard this before. I dug it. I liked it better than that last Fiona Apple we heard. Cool use of rhythm and it featured interesting-though-sparse arrangements. This might grow on me to become a 4, but for now, I'm going with a 3.
Not bad.
Never heard the album or anything by Fiona Apple before and pleasantly surprised. Will definitely listen again.
Somewhat unique in approach. I may not listen to it all the time but I respect the originality and creativity of this album.
⭐⭐⭐/5
What a curious choice for this collection. When I got "Tidal" much earlier, I noted that most Fiona Apple fans seemed to think "Fetch the Bolt Cutters" and "When the Pawn..." were her best albums, so I guess I imagined that this album would be like "Tidal" but more polished and catchy. Or something. That is *not* what this album is, clearly. I really enjoyed "Shameika" (in part because of the entrancing video), as well as "Relay" (the first half reminded me of a song set to those guys outside subway stations playing 5-gallon buckets as drums) and "Heavy Balloons", but overall it feels like the sort of album that *really* appeals to Fiona Apple fans, but leaves everyone else on the outside looking in. (But given the acclaim over this album, I don't think this is an opinion shared by many...) Full props to her that she not only composed all of the songs, but also recorded pretty much every sound on the album in her home. I do wish she'd had a little more restraint in either the number and/or length of the songs (or maybe became more proficient with GarageBand before recording tracks), as an hour is a bit much for a non-fan to listen to her largely successful musical experiments.
I have only heard a track or two from her. Was not expecting her this to be a more recent album. First couple tracks are good. Not my style.
1 1/2 listens of this album might not be enough to fully get into the vibe. Might work as background noise for a rainy sunday afternoon. meh
While I can appreciate the artsy style, I just don't warm to the music. A cut above the usual copycat bands you've heard over and over again, who also do little wrong, and rarely annoying, but no track in sight that I want to listen to more often.
Pretty enjoyable, wasn't all the way on board but good style
Fiona Apple, I liked it! Eclectic mix of style and pace. It was a good change of pace for me.
Interesting album. I'd never heard of her. Nice piano work on some of the tracks.
shameika under the table rack of his ladies for her drumset
Better than I'd expected. She has the self-absorption of Gen Z, but she channels it well.
Interesting
I had to listen to this album a second time to find some appreciation for it. Fiona Apple definitely put her heart and soul into the vocals. As for the music, it’s experimental but still structured in a pop format. The album is piano-driven with percussion that doesn’t follow typical beat patterns. She recorded the album in her home studio with minimal production equipment, creating most of her beats and percussion with random found objects she had lying around. Overall, I’m not a big fan of her voice, but her experimental approach to the music production actually turned out pretty good.
Interesting avant-garde pop! There are very few instances where I listen to this stuff, but I do like it
First listen to Apple Not bad
I love Fiona Apple and I'm glad that she was able to score such a well-beloved album so late into her career, but I've just never cared for this album era of hers. I never liked the singles from it when they were new, so I never listened to the album, and I can't say that the overall vibe of the album has warmed up to me too much over the last few years. I like Heavy Balloon though.
Very sparse instrument-wise, original. there's something there but it's not for me
It's okay. Doesn't have my favorite of her songs on it.
3/5
i don't know much of Fiona Apple past her song, 'Criminal', which is an absolute banger. that said, this album is an interesting one. Fiona's voice is incredible, but you can tell that this album is her really exploring a ton of different styles and mechanics. its bold, and it feels like a real F-U to someone in particular, where she writes the music that she wants and then just smashes it. there were a few songs that I think could sneak its way into rotation, but i respect the artistry and avant-garde-ness of this album
Interesting album, Fiona has a really good voice. May have to revisit again and see If I like it more.
- Fands irgendwie ganz cool - Mochte ihre Stimme sehr gern - Das Pianospiel hat mir über weite Strecken suupeer gut gefallen - I Want You To Love Me ist richtig geil - Leider war mir aber auch vieles ein bisschen zu artsy und hält mich davon ab, das Album höher zu bewerten Rating: 3,25-3,5
Weird but fairly enjoyable. Would.
I think another I like the person more than their music. Definitely an interesting listen and I hope to get some of her other albums but prob not a revisit. I hope Shameika thinks I have potential too…
Cool alternative sound
Ok
Not for me. Not horrible though, just very different.
It was a cool listen and I like her name
Not even her best one. No idea why this is in the list.
This was a bit better than what I remembered it being!! I still don't love it but can definitely appreciate several songs and Fiona a lot more. Fav songs: - I want you to love me - Shameika - Rack of His
This was a fun 2020 album when it came out though I think I liked it better back then. I would say this and the dual T-Swift Albums encapsulated the pandemic in many ways. Fiona records most of this at home during the pandemic and a bit before it sounds like but I remember when it came out I got excited to hear music someone made in their house that way. It works! I'm not a huge Apple fan, some songs of hers I really like and the rest kind of just flows on by like a stream. This album was similar but some of these songs get stuck in my head like Fetch the Bolt Cutters and Under The Table. It was also during this time that I lost a key to a lock on my fence and had to buy bolt cutters to break it. I made some picture in regards to that, and shortly after cutting I found the key. Really happy to see albums like this on here.

01) I Want You To Love Me - 7,0 02) Shameika - 7,0 03) Fetch The Bolt Cutters - 7,0 04) Under The Table - 7,5 05) Relay - 6,0 06) Rack of His - 6,5 07) Newspaper - 6,5 08) Ladies - 7,0 09) Heavy Balloon - 7,0 10) Cosmonauts - 7,5 11) For Her - 7,0 12) Drumset - 7,0 13) On I Go - 7,0 TOTAL: 6,92 (69/100) There's nothing wrong with this album, but I can't see nothing that would attract me to it either. I like the sound of dogs barking, it adds the real home recording atmosphere to it. Songs are interesting, lyrics are fine, her voice is great and still I can't remember a single melody after I'm done.
Lovely vibes but only a few songs stuck with me
Having listened to this album, I might have been a little too harsh on the debut album Tidal. I still think the vocals on that album sound a bit off, but I can appreciate the music much more now. Fetch The Bolt Cutters is a much more interesting album, though, even if it is not entirely my cup of tea.
I mean, I really dig this. Just super experimental pop I think? Pretty serious lyrics and mismatched beats. I fell like anyone would be on the fence of this typically though I thought it was good. 3.2
Beautifully emotional well written album. Sounds beautiful the poetry is amazing. Everything about this is impressive.
General thoughts: Weird, has its lows and highs though I generally prefer her less experimental songs. She has a good voice, though I feel generally she doesnt makes the most out of it as in "Heavy Ballon". Favorite songs: I want you to love me Shameika - Nice transition from previous track Drumset Cover: Reading the page summary I would assume she herself made the cover art, its pretty silly heh not a compliment. Real rating: 2.92
i can see someone liking this a lot but it’s not for me, we’re ships passing in the night, Godspeed ms apple!
I was pleasantly intrigued
Only ever liked one of her songs and never gave her a proper listen before. This feels kinda like Broadway tribute to Tori Amos. It’s not bad, but I wouldn’t call this good exactly. There’s real music and strong vocals. But I don’t enjoy listening to it, cause it feels like it needs to be watched, if that makes sense. There are a lot of ideas here. If this was a stage show, it would work. But as a record, it demands too much attention. It *needs* attention. And, essentially, that’s my problem with her music. She’s got lots of talent but I don’t like spending time with her.
Some fun songs on here
I like here voice and style. Has some great songs. A bit experimental at times
listened to again slam poetry type beat
super creative, a little too weird for me at parts but pretty solid for the most part 3/5
It's not a good sign when the Spotify algorithm follows an album with a song that a) trying to do accomplish the same things as the "1001 Albums" artist, b) as a relative unknown, and c) much better. Sorry Fiona. The Magnetic Fields are now occupying your corner.
3.5
Not heard of this. One of the more modern suggestions, album from 2020. 3 so far.
I feel like it was trying too hard to make a statement and be bold or different that it took all the fun out of it. The writing was great and so was the production. It was even almost exciting at some points. However, I just can’t get behind an album that isn’t fun. 3/5
Special, authentic and great in the melodic moments. Original!
This is an extremely personal album and while it's not something I would listen to on a regular basis or maybe ever again, I appreciate it for what it is. Especially later on when I decided to look up who this artist is and what the album is about and tried to pick up on the different meanings of the songs. In the end it still has too much reparation for my taste and ultimately comes off to me closer to poetry. I did musically like For Her even though that is about a really tough subject. I liked the message of Ladies even though musically I hated it. 3/5
I'm afraid this didn't vibe with me very much. I found it a bit aggravating tbh. Some songs reminded me of Regina Spektor / Bjork and I didn't mind so much. Some of the heavier ones towards the end I got into. But I won't be listening again
Hier is zo eng veel moeite in gestoken. De recensies zijn ook eng, dit album zou de muziek helemaal veranderen. Ik ben niet heel erg fan. Misschien moet je dit eerst tien keer luisteren maar daar heb ik geen zin in
i want you to love me- um i like the piano. she has a nice voice. its nice but if its a whole album of this ive not sure ill make it. 5 shameika- alright kinda jazzy. alright im swaying to it. 6. some of these lyrics are a little........ but some are ok and to be honest even the bads one flow together sooo. fetch the bolt cutters- :/. idk about this one dog. im bored dude. this was over hyped. 4. under the table- meghan trainor type shit not gonna lie. bored. 3. relay- um . i kinda hate it. its like disney channel to me... 4 rack of his- enough. its kinda funny. and it kinda has a groove. 4 or 5ish newspaper- dog. what. my wrist started hurting. also disney channel. the background singing is kinda like that. idgaf. 3. ladies- the bass is nice. um its nice. it kinda starts to drag it doesnt have to be 4 minutes but overall its good. 5 heavy balloon- what is she talking about. um. she does have a lovely singing voice. but its kinda wack. 4 cosmonauts- boring ass . 2 or 3 for her- what. stop. stop it. 2. enough. drumset- um yeah its whatever. 4 on i go- i dont care that much. 3 or 4 its kind of a lot favorite track was ladies
Emotion is the main requirement in music for me. Fiona Apple does not lack emotion on Fetch The Bolt Cutters. It’s one of the most powerfully raw records I’ve ever heard. The problem is, it’s so dissonant it’s bordering into Yoko Ono territory. Avant-garde for the sake of being an avant-garde. It takes 7 songs for the first melody to appear. The second half of the album strikes the right balance of melody, dissonance, raw emotion. Cosmonauts is incredible 7.1/10
Buena voz femenina. Con estilo pop un tanto guitarrero. Melodías variadas. Sin destacar especialmente. Un poco del montón.
This reminds me of some of Lou Reed's albums I can appreciate what is being done I can enjoy parts of it I can be impressed with the inventiveness of it I can't imagine particularly ever wanting to listen to it again
Sonically it’s very experimental and interesting. Lots of layering. Sometimes it felt a little messy to me. But I appreciate and love Fiona’s passion. I can feel her emotions so clearly. She’s powerful
Onbekend maar zal ik enkele denk ik wel van blijven luisteren.
This album is brilliant and infuriating in equal measure. There are portions of it that are quite wonderful, but other bits that I find quite annoying. Giving this a three, but unlike most threes, it's not because it's "pleasant but unmemorable", but rather that that's the only way to average out the fact that this albums is both 5 and 1.
I can appreciate it for a single listen, but I'm not sure I'd ever want to listen to most of it again. I wouldn't say I really enjoyed any of the album, but I can understand its significance.
It was pretty good. Might not listen to it again but was a good album. Will I listen to again: 10%
Ah, I’m so conflicted on this album. The highs are so high and then there are just some frustrating songs. I love love want you to love me, Shameika, fetch, cosmonauts and heavy balloon. These are perfect songs. I like on I go as well. And for her is just so raw. But then the rest just don’t hit. The production is great but they sort of wander and feel disjointed at times. I feel like they never reach their potential. Relay just goes nowhere, I like the elements but they never progress to something substantial. I feel the same way for rack of his, newspaper and ladies. I really really like half the album and half of it just sort of leaves me wanting more and keeps me frustrated. It’s a strong 3 and on good days a 4.
Interesting music, quite unique sound
I went back and forth on this album. A couple of songs were pretty decent, a few were just ok, and a few didn’t really resonate with me.but none of it was compelling. It also lacked any real sense of coherence, or overriding message. I saw that the album was recorded over a 5 year span, maybe that’s the reason. It felt more like a collection of leftovers from a series of albums, leftovers. Overall 3/5
I don’t know. Tried it before and wasn’t crazy about it. Tried it again when it came up here. Still can’t get into it
Surprised to see such a recent album here. Sadly though, I didn’t really enjoy this one. All the songs sounded the same to me, a very boring listen. But even still, none were particularly bad. 5/10 Top 3: 1. Relay 2. Cosmonauts 3. Newspaper
was aight
I still like Fiona Apple but this album didn't quite do it for me. I've been waiting for a 5 lately and this wasn't it. Could it be a 4? Maybe but I didn't find all the percussion stuff that amazing. It was fine but didn't have me saying wow. Her voice still kicks ass (she does some weird things with it though and I'm not sure I was into it) and her lyrics were good as always (more wry than on her debut which was all serious all the time). The first 5 songs were pretty good even though they sometimes went on a bit too long. I don't know, something just didn't click with me. Maybe I'm missing something.
Another that isnt my bag, but she killed this one. Still solid after all this time. Solid 3.5
I've heard of Fiona Apple before but never dabbled. The timeliness of this album seems like it would've been really cool to listen to on release. Kind of raw and unfiltered, Apple takes a lot of jabs at a lot of things here. Good as a one time listen through to me, but I don't think there's anything on the album I'd come back and bob my head to. Highlight: Under The Table Lowlight: On I Go Surprise Hit: Ladies
Strong 3, actually liked the experimental stuff at the beginning more, end felt kind of samey
Strong 3 - First half has more ups and downs, second half was more consistently good but also forgettable in parts
Definitely outside my taste, but at times I felt like I was listening to a musical, which helped keep me engaged. I also think there was some truly excellent lyricism on this album. I was more drawn to the songs in the middle than the ones at the beginning and end though.
Definitely not something I wanted to hear in the beginning. I liked it much better as it progressed. Good use of percussive elements and recording techniques that were more experimental. Enjoyed song structures.
There were some songs I enjoyed here, mostly near the middle and one near the end. The rest were kind of too eclectic for my taste. I can respect the effort to make an album like this but it doesn't gel for me as much as some folks.
Hmm. As I was listening to this, I was thinking about how I could envision a future version of myself who likes this. I can definitely understand why others like this music. It's an interesting and compelling blend of moods. That said, I don't really care for music where the singing is the main focus. I want to like this and maybe someday I will, but today is not that day.
deep album, but not a big draw for me.
It's pretty cool. She sings like a dolphin in the first track
Kind of reminds me of Kate Bush.
Starts strongly, becomes annoying about midway through. Fiona Apple, when she gets it right, is blissful, but on an album level there's always too much atonal filler. A shame because this should've been better.
Just a bit weird init
Feels like if Arctic Monkeys made and experimental album
Very eccentric. Not at all what I was expecting.
A bit of a challenging listen. It makes me think of spoken poetry with a soundtrack more than a collection of songs. It still occassionally finds a vibe with me (2nd half of ladies, cosmonauts), but overall a bit too much kitchen sink collections of ideas and eclectic production.
I was always a bit intimidated by Fiona Apple. She always felt like an art house boogeyman who was hung over as a threat to little boys and girls who casually said they liked all music. I think the weakest part is her voice which was a bit generic when surrounded by terminal quirk and an instrumental album I might have preferred, certainly for the first couple of tracks but ultimately this was pretty decent.
Interesting for sure, occasionally listenable, intermittently not. Giving an extra star for the effort.
Quirky and weird but not for me.
Rating: 3.2
Worthwhile and well made, just not made for me.
Interesting to listen to Fiona Apple, remembering the pandemic-era hype. She's definitely a singer songwriter. I think a lot of the lyrics were interesting or at least speaking to something true, but other sounded dorky. Everything in the second half is better overall, took my thoughts from a 2 to a hesitant 3.
This is just odd. She's got a good soul/jazz voice, but some of the random noises are just weird.
Someone anyone please get this artist an editor. There are some great songs (Ladies in particular) but they are somewhat buried in too many tracks, too much of the whacky production and generally too much of everything. I have listed to this before, and it did improve this time, so maybe in ten years it willbe a five, but for now its a three - really 2.5.
I like Fiona Apple's first two albums, particularly "When the Pawn...". I like her voice and some of the music on this album but the dog thing is kind of weird and the dolphin sounds at the end of the first track give me secondhand embarrassment.
Favorite song: “Shameika”. I really like Fiona Apple, but I’m not a fan of this album. The sparse-ness is a little too much for me.
Bättre än jag trodde. Lätt oförutsägbar pop.
Some of this was alright, some of it was a bit weird. Arter it finished playing, Spotify played me Faye Webster which I'd also never heard of, but quite liked. So, based on that, have 3 stars Ms Apple.
Good but a bit angsty
Good not my favorite by her
2.5
meh, not really my thing anymore. I love Shadowboxer but thats just a one off I guess
Listenable
Pidän tästä kyllä. Puhelaulua on vähän liikaa, mutta onneksi on myös soul-laulua. Kolinaahan on, mutta se on tehty mielenkiintoisesti
God vokal, rebelsk, pop
Some songs were a bit chaotic that made it difficult to enjoy and some songs we’re good
Being able to look back at this album after the absolute fervor it caused when it dropped mid-pandemic, I can appreciate it a bit more on its own and not be too put-off by the cult of personality. I definitely think this is my favorite Apple album – it's easily the most accessible and melodic, intertwining the artist's penchant for offbeat instrumentation and lyricism with creative sound design and a sense of cynical fun. The sparse back half does wear a bit thin with its overuse of strained vocals and the minimalist, near purely-rhythmic backing tracks, but overall this is a concerted and creative songwriting effort I can see myself returning to again for sure.
Mua harmittaa, etten oikein lämmennyt tälle, kanssafanittajien hehkutuksesta huolimatta. Ehkä se pahin angsti puuttui, en tiedä.
Sopivan vinksahtanut! Täytyy kuunnella uudelleen. 3/5
Haven't listened to much Fiona Apple, this was pretty good though. Fairly experimental at times, but pretty accessible overall. Might come back to this. 3.5 rounded down.
La primera parte del album me costo un monton pero under the table, ladies, cosmonauts y for her mejoraron significativamente la calidad del mismo. Destaco sus percusiones y como se basaba en una mezcla de estas con la vocalista siendo tanto intensa como suave.
A scrappy and unique collection of songs. I enjoyed listening but wouldn't say it's something I'll be reaching for in the future. I hadn't really heard this one before but I could see how it was popular early pandemic and lost some of it's appeal afterwards. Kinda like Bo Burnham Inside. Reading the reviews makes me feel like such an ignorant music fan as I honestly cannot tell that this was produced by at home by an amateur in garageband. Certainly better than I could do
Pas mauvais, mais je m'attendais à un peu plus. Ça se laissait écouté sans plus
I wish I was the type of floaty cottagecore girl who likes Fiona Apple, but I'm just not. There were a couple of good songs, but most of the album was just too random for me.
The anger, which is the heart of the matter, feels considerably less than authentic, more privileged and performative, and nothing like righteous. Does that make her a Karen? One's always struggled to like Fiona Apple for her showiness and her silly expressions of aggression. She's just updated a 30-year-old record with some new sounds and song structures and settings – some pretty inventive – but considerable sameyness (especially of tone).
No está mal, me han gustado canciones como "Under the table", "For her" y "Drumset". Lo volveré a escuchar.
Didnt listen in the correct order, might have influenced my decision
A really interesting, sometimes challenging album.
Quirky yank new york piano nerd. Like Regina Spector but older and probably slightly more exciting. I would listen to this one again but struggle to summon the energy
Really great artist and album.
Not my style
Didn't hate it but its a one and done for me.
Pop
This is the first album I've listened to by Fiona Apple and I've never heard of her before. It's an interesting album and definitely interesting. The songs are unconventional and doesn't stick to the established pop formula on how songs should sound like. I probably won't listen to this again as it wasn't for me but I'm still giving it 3/5 as it's very creative and an impressive piece of work.
1st listen; Well this is weird and of little musical enjoyment. Has Fiona Apple become Tom Waits? (in a bad way) - 1 star. 2nd listen; Hmmm there are some interesting ideas here. Not really rock music, not sure how to classify it ecxactly which always make things difficult. Has Fiona Apple become Tom Waits? (in a more accessible way) - 2.5 stars 3rd listen; OK now we have something here, almost every song has an aspect that is catching my attention and more importantly HOLDING my attention. The arrangements where before were strange and off-putting now are unique and invite further investigation. The lyrics are interesting and obviously intlligent, this was obvious from the first listen but now the arrangements invite me to listen more closely, analyze more deeply. Has Fiona Apple become Tom Waits ? (in a very good way). The answer now seems to be well perhaps but there is so much more there there. I definitely here some PJ Harvey influence now and Fiona's own voice shines through way more clearly. 3.5 stars with a bullit. (Do I wait before posting this rating, I recognize how given more time this could become a 5 star album but this is a one album per day exercise so I'm forced to give today's rating. 3.5 stars
People really love Fiona Apple but another one I can't get into. It's definitely a unique sound, and maybe it's just the hype of new music from her, but not really an album I would care about hearing again.
T3B 1. Newspaper 3. Shameika 3. Cosmonauts Surprisingly really good listen.
the early songs are pretty girl boss the later songs just don't have much energy 3.5
Pretty good. I might go back and listen to more Fiona Apple now. Weird this was chosen as the FA album you need to listen to but sure, whatever.
Feels a bit like a decent into insanity, with a splash of crazy (ex or soon to be ex?) girlfriend and just a touch of untethered mania. Certainly has some creative chord progressions, unusually lengthy notes/phrases, and a small pile of unexpected turns and shouts. Interesting listen, but not one you're going to be clamoring to hear again.
Not a fan of the industrial but the second half of the album was pretty good. Relay was my fave.
I bet I know a dirty California ln hippie type that digs this
meh
The whole experience felt free and quirky, but sometimes those quirkiness are hit or miss for me. I do enjoy some of the songs, and that's the main factor for me. I guess you could get a really creative rock album and it sounds refreshing if you hear it for the first time, but on the other hand, you get this weird singing style, odd beat, and kind of messy. I appreciate the uniqueness, but I don't dig this album much. The last part on Ladies sounds like she was casting a spell lmao.
More innovative than enjoyable. More tedious than her other albums. A great artist but and overhyped work.
thought it was alright. i can totally see the appeal of it but it's not something i found myself enjoying straight away. that being said, i thought Lady was rly good and i also enjoyed both Newspaper and Drumset
Didn't really do much for me. Lots of experimental and arty bouncing around but not much in the way of tunes or melody and it just sounded to sparse to draw me in.
Nice, but slightly formulaic with the lyricism. Has love-breakup vibes and general melancholy vibes. Overall nice but a tad repetitive.
não é ruim, mas não muito meu estilo
