Ah some 60’s cannon I’m actually feeling. Yeah, this one gets a 5. Jim Morrison is serious. He’s not some false hippie bullshitter living in Malibu preaching peace and love. Nope. O. Stone’s thesis was largely correct. Jim wanted to channel Bacchus himself and set the world on fire. And he succeeded for a moment, consuming himself in the flame. Much like Jimmi Hendrix, he tapped a power beyond himself without restraint, consuming massive quantities of various substances to help him do it. And Bacchus IS the god of wine, after all. No peace and love, just raw hedonism in the end. 5 Boolean: True
When to listen: somewhere groovy with a lava lamp on. Yes we’ve heard these songs a million times but that doesn’t make them less great. Amazing sound, amazing lyrics.
The best of the best

Love it. Have to listen to the Doors more often.
Pues otro top
I love The Doors. Morrison has this weird Sinatra thing with his vocals.
Jim Morrison is just so fucking cool. I have to rate this a 5.
amazing
Waffled between 4 and 5 stars but man at the end of the day it’s just really that good. First time listening to a Doors album all the way through and was surprised how much every song hit. The ratio of songs to classics is insane
An essential album from the mythical Doors. Poetry, and teenage energy mix with flamenco influence, and classical is everything you need for a true rock experience. This being the first album feels incredible for what they accomplished, and future albums just solidify their legacy.
Fantastic album , I can see why many people rave about the doors - till now it’s not been something I could ever get into
Break on Through has to be the coolest opening track of a debut album ever. The Doors was the first band I got obsessed with when I began forming my own musical taste as a kid so this album is an automatic 5/5 and perhaps the first 5/5 album I’ve ever heard in my life.
Suorastaan fantastinen albumi.
Awesome first album!
First time I heard this I immediately added it to my vinyl collection. It oozes cool, and literally ends on one of the best songs of all time
Always remember

They are probably my favorite musical artists from the late 60s.. I'm not sure if this my favorite album by The Doors, though, but it certainly deserves a place on this list. Anyways, I do look forward to listening to them both again. 4 my personal rating 5 suitability for this list 5 impact ----------------------------------------------- 4.7 composite rating
The Doors are one of the GOATs of the 60s and this album is their strongest example to earn that title. So many classics, my favorite personally being Light My Fire, which inspired me to take on keyboards/organs/synthesizers. Manzarek one of the best.
Iconic debut album that shows that the Doors were more than just Jim Morrison. The entire band were just as important to the sound of The Doors and songs like Soul Kitchen and Take It As It Comes are iconic and just as good as Light My Fire and The End
Another classic. Peak psychedelic rock sound mix blues and jazz undertones, peak vocals; the mood the album sets is just impeccable. It’s a debut album on top of that. Favorites: Light My Fire, Break On Through (To the Other Side), Soul Kitchen, Back Door Man, End of the Night, Take It As It Comes, The End

Unbelievable density of all time classics!
I Love the doors Classic Album I’ve Listened to this hundreds of times

Easy 5
A classic
One of many classic albums my brilliant english teacher introduced me to when we should have been studying for an external exam. And what an album. Morrison has the kind of energy that makes you want to build a panic room. While Krieger and Manzarek's unusual note choices add to the tension, but somehow keep just the right side of weird. Genius at work. 5*
Fantastic album. Was Jim Morrison one of the greatest vocalists of all-time? Maybe not, but dude had swagger, stage presence, and could write fantastic lyrics. He might be the first punk rock icon. The band slaps too.
Great listen
Jim Morrison was certainly a compelling personality but it's too bad that he got so much of the attention because this was an excellent band. "The End" is a huge favorite. The finality expressed in first lines of the song always crush me. This is the end beautiful friend This is the end my only friend, the end Of our elaborate plans, the end Of everything that stands, the end No safety or surprise, the end I'll never look into your eyes again
5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background I find the 1st side of this album to be much stronger than the 2nd side but there's no denying this is an essential 60s album and fantastic listen.
This reminds me of “discovering” music in my parent’s old record room as a pre-teen and feeling enlightened.
GREAT album. Soul Kitchen, Break On Through, Light My Fire, all amazing
Amazing debut album.

5/5 Album.
Hey they were the Doors very much a product of their time while being ahead of their time.
I love the Doors and this album especially!
"If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite." — William Blake
Whiskey Bar oompah nonsense aside this is amazing
Great album. Love Crystal Ship and The End even though they made me almost get in a fight with a Disturbed fan at the bar.

What a breathtaking badass great album. I always forget how good this album is until I listen to it. I also don't listen to this album that much so it does feel fresh each time. 5/5
Really enjoyed the organ playing and vibe. Unreal
toinen klassikko heti perään
Probably top 5 of my go-tos in highschool, so I'm biased. 10/10!
Zeitlos, geht fast immer.
Best rock and roll featuring an organ
I didn’t even have to listen to this album to rate it, but I did anyway on vinyl. Matter of fact, I made my entire class listen to it because we were studying to 1960s. Growing up this album was a constant around my house. Light My Fire was my parent’s wedding song, allegedly. The song that made me an independent Doors fan was Break On Through, which I believe I listened to on the Forrest Gump soundtrack. I had heard it many times before, but the time was right to listen to it new. When I went down to listen to the full album, I don’t think I found a bad song, and have listened it in every format ever since, even on 8-Track. What made the Doors unique is they did not follow the normal pattern of rock bands: a poet, who couldn’t sing: a classical piano player; a jazz drummer; and a flamenco guitarist that joined together to define psychedelic rock. I actually met Ray Manzerick and listen to him play Riders from ten feet away. He was as cool as you would have excepted. Though every song is amazing, my all-time favorite is the song at The End, which I have used on so many mixtapes and playlist over my life, and will even put it on just so I can listen to that song alone on repeat. I actually like the original studio edits better than the uncensored remastered. For me, this album ranks as an all-time favorite.
Random thoughts: * This has to be one of the best, if not the best, debut album of all time. * I forget how good this album is but it is basically a greatest hits compilation. * I still think the Doors are completely underrated. Not sure why they don't get their proper dues in my opinion. * Ok, there might be a few songs on side two that don't get to the highs of the rest of the album. * I don't know if this is my favorite Doors song but it is the one I play the most often: The Crystal Ship. I absolutely adore this album. What a great song to listen to before you drift off into unconsciousness.
I think the doors has to be my favourite band from the 60’s, their sound is so different to other artists from that time, maybe it’s all the psychedelics Jim was taking but still that point of difference sticks with me. When I was a teenager starting to write my own music, listening to the doors opened my eyes to the possibilities of what music could be, that there was a whole world of music other than punk and metal.
Can I really afford to be buying more vinyl at the moment? No. Have I just ordered this anyway? You bet I have...
Greatest hits playlist from my youth
They were so inventive and sleek when they started out. I can never understand why people, seemingly the editors of the book included, prefer their later bar room blues efforts.
Another classic rock album I’m very familiar with. As a high school kid, I think The Doors had the place of my second favorite classic rock band behind The Beatles. I’m sure this will hold up well. This album just rocks. Break on Through and just doesn’t let up. Fun rock with some great hard guitars and drums and those keys enhancing the sound in a good way. What a band and record. Every member is just killing it. Jim Morrison is awesome. He’s probably his most contained here than in later albums. This is probably their best album and what a debut album for a band. The front side is probably way stronger than the back half, but it’s still filled with great songs that rock throughout. An easy 5 for me.
Top 10 album EVER. There's nothing else to be said, really. 10/10
I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did, but it really is excellent. I'd only heard the bigger hits before, but the rest of the album holds up too. I'm left wondering why I hadn't dug into their albums more before now. Musically it's got such a good vibe to it. Really accomplished and harmonious with some GREAT jams. The production is excellent too - it still sounds really good all these years later. Obviously there's a lot of big hitters on here, and they've also stood the test of time. Light My Fire is such a behemoth. I love how there's such a huge middle of pure instrumental where everyone gets a go, adding layers and layers before jumping back into the main thrust of the song. When this broke through it must have been such a moment. So yeah. It's simply, really really good. And it feels iconic.
Loved it, brilliant
QoA Vesper.
The keyboard solos went hard.
I never really listened to much of The Doors aside from the hits. I had no idea just how engrained into my brain some of these songs were. Break on Through will always be directly tied to the EA Skate games for me, and those games were arguably my entire personality for a very long stretch of my childhood. Something about that Vox organ just fills my heart with joy. Any time I hear it on any song, it just tingles my brain in the perfect way. I absolutely adore that instrument. They just released a modern version of it recently (past few years) and don't think I haven't thought about pulling the trigger on it if it weren't so damn expensive (like rent!). I get this might be a "normie album" or whatever the hell, but the entire time through this album I was cheesin ear to ear and I had a great time listening to it. I will probably go listen to more.
Well, what can I say. This was my introduction to The Doors years ago and it is a great record. I didn't listen to it for several years and I was afraid that I had rose-tinted glasses back then and it might not hold up but nope, it is even better than I remembered. Great mastering, powerful lyrics, vocals and keyboards - all contribute to the whole experience. Don't have a favorite track here, it's the whole album.
Great album. There’s some variety to make the whole album 5 star from start to finish
I was... 8? 9? and my parents were friends with the Snells. They had a big house in East Lexington, filled with wonders. Laura Snell was my age, and we played together awkwardly. Laura had an older sister who had Marcia Brady hair circa 1972--long, straight and golden; I remember her with a non-plussed look on her face when Laura and I came to her door in search of refuge from ourselves. She was playing The Doors on her stereo, and it was Jim Morrison's scream in Light My Fire that seared this whole scene into my memory. I hadn't heard much rock and roll by then; in fact I was innocently listening to disco in my bedroom, on my spinster aunt's old radio. This new music was a revelation. It seemed like a world filled with sulphurous ghosts, dark hallways, and medieval tortures... y'know, like Scooby Doo. Very important record in my life. And listening to it again, I do hear just how odd they were in the palette of pop rock available in the late 60s. The Doors movie made much of Morrison's story of dissolution, despair and death. IMO it's an odd tale to sell records with, but that's me. I do love his muttered hints as esoteric topics, his brooding, pouting, screeching weirdness. And I will always, always love "Riders on the Storm."
A fabulous and iconic debut album. Besides the classic hits, there are no fillers, but also really good tracks.
Man this is dope
This album fucking rips and is an essential listen for context on the development of culture and music. The sound is pretty original given the time period, the strange mix with keyboards/organ playing a more prominent role and stray influences (bossa nova, carnival tunes, etc.) I feel like there was a time recently where it was cool to dog on The Doors, and Jim Morrison's entire oeuvre has been parodied to death. Say what you want, but "The End" is an excellent jam.
the debut of the doors, absolutely one of the most influential alternative rock bands in the universe. nobody comes close. their debut album is composed of tracks made for live gigs and sonnets written on a whim. it says a lot about this album, even in this day and age, people in my family still listen to these guys. there's something so enthralling and so unique about their bossa-clave, low-fidelity psy-rock compared to all the other guys with their yodeling and sitars. oh mr. morrison, you were like a psyrock creature perched upon my shoulder, whispering me weird nothings.
There is a creeping and sinister darkness to The Doors’ debut which elevates a record which already has an incredible hit rate and some of the highest quality jamming ever captured. This era of The Doors is my favourite, where crystal clear ideas arrive like a bullet, but are then dramatically fleshed out with some gently psychedelic sensibilities. In 1967 The Velvet Underground were writing music that wasn't a million miles away from this, but the darkness in Jim Morrison's voice, and tendency to draw everything out makes for an entirely different listening experience. No song benefits from their patient approach to songwriting than the iconic The End, which left an indelible impression on me when I watched Apocalypse Now as a teenager.
The Doors get another low 5 from me with their self-titled, i have always loved Strange Days and the singles from each of the major albums but i’m very much enjoying them as a full album band, 100% a Doors fan now

Best Song: Break on Through (to the Other Side) This was the album that introduced me to an obsession that lasted from about 15-50 - Jim Morrison. Now, for the down side, this project did show me that Morrison, especially live Morrison, did try to emulate an early-60s Mick Jagger. It seemed like if you were a band in the mid-to-late 60's you either tried to emulate the Stones or The Beatles. This album fell nicely between the two with some out there moments (The End). Overall, I will never say a negative thing about this album - to me it is one of the my top 20 albums ever and helped to shape the weird-o I became. 5/5.
What do you mean this was their fucking DEBUT album? Their best songs are here!
Probably their best album and for me their only true 5/5 album. The songs stand the test of time and were very groundbraking psychadelic rock for its time period.
Genre defining!
Extremely understandable why this is such an iconic influential album. The sound and especially atmosphere of this album hit you down to the bone and stick. Great vocal recording.
Great album with great songs. I love the organ music and play this when I was to take a nostalgia trip.
WHOAAA TS WAS PEAK i dont like the occulty stuff tho
This is the album that I will play at the end of the world. Favourite Songs: Break On Through (To the Other Side), Alabama Song (Whisky Bar), Light My Fire, End of the Night, The End. Least Favourite Songs: NO.
Really enjoyable album. Iconic
Extravagant, indulgent, self serious, ferocious, brilliant
The first Doors album. What an introduction to one of the best groups to come out of LA in the late 1960's. Every album the Doors released following their initial effort was an improvement on a perfect debut.
ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS ON THIS SITE!
Absolutely stunning album.
Classic. Very powerful.
Incredible album no skips, some all time greats like break on through, soul kitchen, and light my fire and my favourite the last song in the end

I love the Doors. Miss me with the hate. Its sensual, its poetic, its a vibe. The organ is always such an uplifting aspect.
during cooking with pa he tells me about his old apartment when they only listened to the doors all day /
I TRULY ENJOYED THIS I WASNT EXPECTING TO LIKE IT AT ALL
Discazo. 10/10.
Life is short, give out 5's. This thing is fire, totally hit the vibe.
Vinilo a comprar
It’s the doors buddy
Great classic rock album and a debut no less. Not a bad song here and maybe nothing quite as strange as The End anywhere.
Practically a doors greatest hits album. Lots of fun until “the end” which foreshadows the sinister twist the summer of love would take in 1968 and 1969. My favorites are “Soul Kitchen”, “Back Door Man” and the jam in “light my fire”. I’m glad they put the long version on the album.
Psychedelic rock perfection. Break on through is a legendary album opener, Light my Fire is an experience everytime I listen to it. The organ and Jim’s voice gives me life
Had such a great time listening to this. ~"You men eat your dinner, eat your pork and beans I eat more chicken than any man ever seen."~ ICONIC
This is nearly everything I know about the Doors, and it's all from their first album. It's a remarkable accomplishment.
More like 5 stars by the 5 stars
4.5 great tunes, I love The End.
so effing peak. so iconic. yes. 60s rock was smth else
I've got really fond memories of being hazed to this music for hours and hours (and hours) on end. Good stuff! Best Song: The End Rating: 9.0/10 Stars: 5
This is absolutely amazing
Classic
Skeptical on how good it would be but was amazed and pretty mush every song was amazing
This album is easily one of the best albums of all time, if not the best.
(94/100)
All timer!
Listened to songs from this but have never heard the whole album. I love the Doors! Glad I finally listened to a complete album of theirs. The vibes on this album are timeless.
Great album!
Awesome album
Such a classic album. It’s been a while since I’ve had an album where every single song slapped, but this was one of those rare occasions. It’s no wonder why this album gets so much praise. It absolutely deserves it.
Perfect and has gotten better over time
Listens: 3 or 4 Standout Tracks: Break on Through (To The Other Side), The Crystal Ship, Alabama Song (Whisky Bar), Light My Fire This is an album I have certainly listened to and am familiar with, but it has definitely been a long time since I thought about the Doors. The front half of this album is full of bangers, but then it sort of fizzles a bit until The End. I love Alabama Song - It's just so unique and twangy, but in a creepy and haunting sort of way. Something about the song reminds me of a carousel, but like a really fucked up, "Help me, I can't get off this ride!" carousel - dizzying-like, urgent, concerning. Something about finding the next little girl doesn't quite sit right either. Anyways, this is a tight album with real face-melters. High marks all around.
Odlican prvi album meni jednog od najdrazih bendova. 43 minute albuma prodju za taj tren. Lijepa, uhu ugodna glazba s oblljem hitova poput Break On Through, Light My Fire, The End.... Favoriti s albuma - The Crystal Ship, Back Door Man, End of the Night.
I hesitated to give this 5 stars. Four of my last five albums were 5 stars, and I feel like I might be overrating them. But this is such a unique piece of art, like nothing else on the radio now or even when it came out in the late sixties/early seventies. Jim Morrison was a revolutionary artist: he lived and died for his work. I have to respect him and his band for their contribution. 5 stars
fuck it man baroque organ bossa nova drums let's make one of the best rock albums of all time idk
You could never go wrong with The Doors
The Doors have such a distinctive sound, so I was really looking forward to listening to their self titled debut album today. The big question going into it was whether I would prefer it to L.A. Woman, which I have always thought was a superb record. From the opening moments it is clear why this album is so highly regarded. Every track carries that unmistakable Doors atmosphere. Ray Manzarek’s keyboard work, Robbie Krieger’s guitar and Jim Morrison’s voice combine to create something dark, hypnotic and completely unique. Even decades later it still sounds fresh and powerful. What really stands out is how strong the songwriting is for a debut. There is not a weak track here, and several songs have gone on to become absolute classics. Break On Through and Light My Fire are iconic for a reason, and the album flows brilliantly from start to finish. Trying to decide whether this or L.A. Woman is better is genuinely difficult. Both albums capture the band at their best in slightly different ways, and it is probably impossible to separate them. What is clear is that this is an exceptional debut. Favourite song: Break On Through and Light My Fire Least favourite song: None. Every track earns its place Album artwork: Iconic cover that perfectly represents the band’s image
An amazing debut album. Not familiar with The Doors besides from a couple of the hits (and Jim Morrisons antics). This was brilliant from start to finish.
I totally understand not liking The Doors. But I love The Doors. The Doors by The Doors is good. 5/5
Yep this was a good one. Didn’t realise most of the Doors songs I knew came from the same album, or that it was a debut effort. A couple of over-indulgent moments and the organ mix could be turned down a bit on a few songs, rated 4.5 but rounded up for cultural significance and general coolness.
Évidemment
Album 130. The Doors (https://open.spotify.com/album/1jWmEhn3ggaL6isoyLfwBn?si=gSlNyXyURFaTmF4sANPK1g) — The Doors (1967) Wtf, why is it the 3rd golden album in a row? Oh, how I love this kind of rock. I liked almost the whole album. 59 years later it's still awesome. Every song of this album is a high quality song. 5/5 Liked: — Break on Through — Soul Kitchen — The Crystal Ship — Twentieth Century Fox — Alabama song (Whisky Bar) — I Looked at You — End of the Night — Take It as It Comes — Light My Fire — The End
Fire Joe Morgan/Newman track by track review--because this album is a 5 y'all (although this album is definitely behind 'Waiting for the Sun' and 'Morrison Hotel' for me and really close with 'Strange Days.' Main point: I love the Doors). "Break On Through (To the Other Side):" Fantastic start to kick off the album with energy and Morrison's great voice. "Soul Kitchen:" Nice little ditty and a good place to go for soul food. "The Crystal Ship:" One of my fave deeper cuts on the album, this mournful, haunting song shows off the band's range and psychedelia. "Twentieth Century Fox:" A fun walkup song for debutantes with an ear wormy chorus. "Alabama Song (Whisky Bar):" A baller drinking singalong derived from cabaret. This is weirdly wonderful. "Light My Fire:" The ubiquitous cliche hit that showcases Manzarek's expert organ playing. "Back Door Man:" Slower cover song showing the histrionics of Morrison. "I Looked at You:" Quick bit that emphasizes the organ hooks of the band (Ray Manzarek is one of the most underappreciated musicians of classic rock). "End of the Night:" A tune similar to "Crystal Ship," with haunting melodies. Good one to fall asleep to (or pass out in a Paris bathtub). "Take It as It Comes:" Solid life advice in an earworm form. "The End:" The finale song that epitomizes the Doors: darkness, instrumentation, and atmosphere. This took a while to grow on me but damn it's good.
Another incredible album by the Doors, this time its their first album. Any of their albums I can listen to all the way through over and over again.
Morrison didn’t sing like a performer. He sounded like a man reporting back from the other side of our collective dreams. Most bands play songs. The Doors played the place where fear, beauty and madness meet. The Doors are a pillar in the fortress of music.
Sadly last Doors album on this list for me! And perhaps their debut is also their best one, easy 5 stars from me for sure without too much thought, just check that legendary tracklist
Great album, loved the rock n roll and especially the organ
music is love
classic band classic album! a bit repetitive perhaps but still one of the greats for a reason
I know it's become somewhat fashionable to hate The Doors and Morrison, but I don't care. I love this band and I love this album. Incredible that it was their debut. "I Looked at You" may be the only weak spot?
Top, curti bue
Worst Doors album, and I've listened to all of the ones on this list so far. Still good though because it's The Doors.
Feels like an absolutely generational album. I didn't know that Break On Through and Light My Fire were on the same album. The riffs on the organ are unlike any other sound I have ever heard. And it's from 1967! Really groundbreaking stuff here from The Doors.
A must listen! Great album, Light My Fire and The End are brilliant!
A-tier album
Poetic, and horny
bbys first psych record. The End of The Crystal Ship.
Ja! The Doors låter like kult i dag som det gjorde da det kom (ikke "Break'n a Sweat"). Med unntak av kanskje "End of the Night" og "Take It As It Comes" kunne plateselskapet bare gitt ut hele debutalbumet som Best of the Doors.
Amo
A ésto se escucho mi infancia (:
Instant classic, timeless fabulous songs, redefining sound.
Great album, love the chill vibes
Already heard.
Easiest 5 in my life.
Needs to get some Doors into my rotation.
Oh man, I got super into this growing up. Just so good! It's been a few years since I listened through, but it was great to vibe back into that world again. Spins: All Day Playlist Additions - Break on Through (To the Other Side) - Soul Kitchen - Alabama Song (Whisky Bar) - Light My Fire - The End
4.8
Probably my favorite Doors album. It's rocking, grooving, well composed and greatly performed. As a side note, a friend of mine described The Doors as clown rock music and that made me chuckle. Anyway, excellent album.
This was their debut???? Very good album
jim you can have all of me
Yes 8.4/10
My favorite doors album. Everything except Whisky Bar is great.
Personally, I feel a sense of calm when listening to this record, primarily due to the combination of Ray Manzarek's psychedelic organ and Jim Morrison's hypnotic vocals. However, it was only after learning a few details about it that I discovered its true greatness. For example, the band never had a studio bassist; Manzarek played the bass part as a second line — a masterful feat. Furthermore, the album was recorded in just a few days, with most of the songs recorded in one take. And most importantly, the engineer's wisdom — he barely touched the final recording — made it sound as if the band were performing live. This is the main strength of this music, and I hadn't yet fully grasped the apparently metaphor-filled lyrics. The Doors' best album and, arguably, one of the best debut albums ever.
Classic Rock 10/10
Once you walk through, you’ll never hear music the same.
YESSIR!!!!
Great album. The Doors are amazing and this has some of their best songs. Love this one.
Yessssss Great sounds That fuzzy guitar and organ synch with Morrisons haunting vocals is perfect
The first, and probably best Doors album before they began to lose their mystique and sound samey.
Wat eens streak
Eens
jaaaa shoutout naar de deuren
My only friend, the end. Not only is this an album with great songs like Light My Fire (knowledge of which scored me a victory in song guessing game) or The End; it has a great list of filler songs, after listening to the album several times I think I feel warm about all of them, they're really easy listen and have their own little personalities, much like in Queen's albums, all the songs are at least a little hits. Few years before Queen!
Great album. Very mystic with some absolute rockers. A haunting voice. An easy 5
Had this album on repeat (for lack of many alternate CDs) during a Baja surf/road trip, so I'm pretty biased here... Brings back memories.
Jim Morrison et al absolutely nailing it
Legendary album
Wow, this is full of bangers that I'd never heard before somehow. Love the varied instrumentation, especially the organ. But the vocals are great, too. Faves: Twentieth Century Fox, Alabama Song (Whisky Bar), Light My Fire, Take It as It Comes, The End
So many incredible songs from a truly unique band. Taking Jim's poor poetry and adolescent lyrics aside, the music and vocals have their own super cool sound. I particularly love the what the organ adds to what might otherwise be a standard 60s rock ensemble. The guitar has its own uniqueness to it. It all captures the era, but doesn't sound dated.
Great debut album — solid from start to finish. Going to give this one a 5 — “Take It As It Comes” was surprise track that brought the back end of the album together for me. I remember a high school social studies teacher who was a big Doors fan. He played this album and had us compare the keyboard licks to a Bach record and showed us how they were derived from music of the Baroque era.
Not so bad. :)
A classic
Really enjoyed this album. It felt interesting and unique. The music was a joy, the lyrics eclectic and the voice was compelling. I will certainly be re-listening to this!
Great album, except for Alabama Song (Whisky Bar) which I found incredibly grating. I’m a tough grader (apparently). Want to give it 4.5 but as that’s not possible, giving it 5.
I love love love this album.
OK - this album would be a 5 for me even it was just The End. But it's more than just that; Break On Though, Light my Fire, etc.. stunners. I just love The Doors, definitely one of my favourite bands from the era.
5/5. One of the best psych rock albums not just of the 60’s, but of all time IMO. you get hard hitting bangers like the opener “Break on Through (to the other side” or “take it as it comes” along with slower almost dream-like songs such as “the crystal ship.” And there is of course the albums center-piece and biggest song “light my fire” with a great extended solo section on the album version. I also love the surreal and unsettling “the end” which as the title implies, ends the album off. All around a fantastic record.
Father? Yes son?
As this site has made me quite a big doors fan. It shouldn't be any surprise that i loved The Doors. Even though i am quite aware of The Doors' stuff now, the most i heard from this one is that one set of lyrics from The End which was also used in the Bloodsimple song "Ride With Me", it was awesome there and it is pretty awesome here too. But the other songs on offer are also fantastic, each having that organ which i absolutely love about this band and just having an incredibly fun energy to them which makes this album an absolute joy to go through. Again, i can't think of a single issue this album has, it's just a really good album. Best Song: Light My Fire Worst Song: Break On Through (to the Other Side) Side Note: Since this is my last Doors album, here are the rankings: 1. Morrison Hotel 2. The Doors 3. L.A. Woman
Every single track is an absolute banger. This album is amazing, I cannot think of a reason why you would ever listen to the Beatles or Stones in preference to this. If I could give it six stars I would.
It's like a 4,6 but I give it a 5 because I am so so fond of The Doors.
I was turned on to The Doors in high school and was obsessed for a handful of years. Today, I still like listening to most songs. This album has its playful side – Twentieth Century Fox, Whiskey Bar – showcases for Ray Manzarek – Light My Fire, of course – and earnestness – The End, The Crystal Ship. And at least this album doesn’t have L.A. Woman.
A classic!! Every single song is so good and fun. Not a single bad thing to say here. 9/10
Hello again, my old friend.
It is amazing how solid they were on their debut, so many classic songs and long jams. Blues influenced and the organ really makes this sound.
Such a great album. So haunting and mysterious I love it.
Absoluter Klassiker. Allein „Light My Fire“ platziert das Album nach ganz weit oben.
i loveeeeee
lol Light my Fire is siiiiiiickkk But! Not as siiiick as: The End. It was the end of me This shit is 5/5
Greatness.
banger after banger
i listened to it, but not my fav genre of music. my friend told me it's a classic one, so i do with her, 5 stars
This album brings so many feelings. Dark, Intense Dark, euphoric.
Great classic album...iconic, dark, moody, trippy.....love it.
I mean, wow, classic after classic. Absolutely amazing album. Groundbreaking and incredible songs.
Just incredible
classic
Good
This is a powerful album that came out in 1967. It was a lot different than the "psychedelic" albums by other groups. This was a raw, heavy, album that was a break from the flowery albums of the day. Jim Morrison had a very intoxicating voice and the subject matter was rather unique. Bold , sexy, rock and roll with blues thrown in.
Kind of over The Doors these days. But once, somewhere between Metallica and the Grateful Dead, they were my favorite band. And this one's pretty perfect. 5
Once upon a time I considered myself a 20th century fox asking for my baby to light my fire but time moves on.. now I'm a 21st century fox with a fire of my own :-p Love this album and happy to be reminded!
Fantastic album Favourite song - The end 10/10
Probably the best Doors album and a classic of classic rock
This was very good. All the hits. I surprisingly loved it.
Dare I say, perfect album? Every song is a 10/10! 5/5 ⭐️
4.91/5 Stars Top Songs: Soul Kitchen, Light My Fire, Take it as it Comes
This album commits fully to its own extremity, and that’s why it works. Jim Morrison’s vocals are theatrical and unapologetic, and Ray Manzarek’s organ playing is busy in a way that feels intentional rather than indulgent. Together, they create a sound that’s hypnotic, confrontational, and unmistakably singular. “Break On Through” and “Light My Fire” are deserved classics, but what really elevates the record is how strong the so-called secondary tracks are. There’s very little filler here. The mood stays immersive, and even when things veer into excess, it feels like excess in service of a clear artistic vision rather than lack of restraint. Yes, this album probably hits even harder in an altered state of consciousness. But it doesn’t require one. The atmosphere, the groove, and the sense of danger are already baked in. This is music that was designed to feel different, to push past comfort, and to stake out its own territory. Some records age into politeness. The Doors doesn’t. It still feels strange, dramatic, and a little unhinged, and that’s exactly why it holds up. A full five stars: bold, immersive, and confident enough to embrace its own extremes.
5* reminds me of highschool
En god gammel klassiker. 9/10
Could tell how instrumental this must have been at the time. Enjoyable listen. Loved “The End”.
This was their introduction to the world and holy crap they nailed it. Such a good album. One of my all time favorites from them and this album is the “Alabama Song”
Fantastic album that is full of bangers. 5 stars.
Another All-timer 5 *
This was good especially for a debut album! "Break On Through" and "Light My Fire" were the only songs I already knew off here, and I also enjoyed "The Soul Kitchen" "Back Door Man" "End of the Night" and "The End"
I wasn't alive when this album came out, but from what my parents have told me (they were in college when this came out and living in Los Angeles), this was a game changer. None of that bubble gum pop rock that was dominating the air waves. The Doors came out and blew conventional rock music out of the water. I like most of the songs on this album. Sure there's a couple of throwaways, but the album on the whole is amazing. Probably my second favorite Doors album (L.A. Woman is superior). 5/5
Classic.
Bowie did his version of Alabama Song, and while I love Bowie I must admit the version on this album is far superior. The Doors have something about them that still oozes rock n roll and pure unadulterated nihilism even now decades after this was released. I wouldn't ever say Jim Morrison is my favourite singer, or even my favourite singer named Jim Morrison (here's looking at you, fellow Carter USM fanatics), but I can't really imagine anyone else fronting this band and singing these songs. There's also the tame and insipid version of Light My Fire by Will Young that removes all the spirit of the original. That goddamn organ with bass drums and guitar. This kind of music just speaks to me. Just a shame I can't give this 7 out of 5. Fuck, 5 stars just for The End alone.
Big fan of "The End," kinda a chaotic album but in the best way. Also thought some of the lyrics were comical.
Already listened to it before
Trip down memory lane this one. Takes me back to my teenage years
Liked it, classic album with some great tracks
Very psych-rock. It incorporates organ into the music, which adds a nice touch. Quite a bit of songs about being drunk. A quintessential album. Revolutionary album that changed music forever.
One of the best albums of all time
I love the Doors!!!!!*
Wow. Such a powerful debut! I was never super into The Doors, but the power of this album is undeniable. The songs here are uniformly great, sometimes even transcending that (my fav is The Crystal Ship). The music is powered by Morrison’s powerful voice and delivery, but also by incredible keyboard and guitar lines and arrangements which are both tight and loose. Incredible album. Five stars.
All time done student years favourite. Impossible not to live.
The Doors have been one of my mother's favourite bands of all time. There's a great reason for it, because no one does it like Jim Morrison. The organ sound with his voice is so distinctly perfect, and the production is high-class for the time. Screw the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, this is the best band of the '60s. Producing hit after hit perfection, on a debut album, is just incredible. Also, Light My Fire is just a perfect song. Look, the only problem I have with this album is that the End song is slightly too long, but you get what you can get with Jim Morrison's creative vision. Who knows, I might grow into it.
The album and songs that sold me on the Doors. Not as drunk and unhinged as later releases, a tight group of tracks with maybe the best album opener and closer ever.
Gran disco
Break On Through (To the Other Side) The Crystal Ship Twentieth Century Fox Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar) Light My Fire Back Door Man The End
Fantastic from start to finish.
The Doors
Album #17: The Doors Genre (according to Wikipedia): Psychedelic rock, art rock, psychedelia Singles: Break On Through (To The Other Side), Light My Fire Have you listened to this album or group before?: I have listened to this album once before. Thoughts?: I love the Doors!! Their music is quite intellectual to me and Jim Morrison is a talented frontman. The whole album is disconcerting, but in an intriguing way. The End is one of the most epic and haunting pieces ever made!! Favorite songs: All of it!! What scene does this album paint?: A sort of hallucinatory trip. With lots of mysticism. And mythological references. Greek especially. File correlations: File #5: C*O*M*A*T*O*S*E
All awesome
Turn it up to 11!
One of my favorite albums of all time! Just good!!
Yes… oh very yes “ Let me slip into your So Kitchen…” Brilliance, definitely ahead of their time
goated
Femma
Classic if you enjoy rock
Loved it
The End is so fucking sick
Classic!
Super album, odličen začetek z "Break On Through (To the Other Side)". Amazing. Sledi kul verzija blues komada "Back Door Man". "End of the Night" mi je podobno k "The Crystal Ship" - mal eerie, zveni minimalističen, a niti ni, lep. "The End" je pa itak an epic masterpiece.
Untouchable album, and one of the greatest debuts of all time.
Primer álbum épico de una banda épica
Classic for a reason.
So many iconic and timeless songs. The more meandering and psychedelic bits aren't really my thing, but a great album nevertheless.
Great
I went into a record shop and asked what have you got by the doors? The bloke said a bucket of sand and a mop.
164/1001 ## The Doors - The Doors **Year:** 1967 **Heard before?** ✅ **Listen again?** ✅ **Own** ✅ **Rating:** ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ During the early 90s revival around The Doors, my older brother had that ‘wanted’ poster’ of Morrison on his wall and as a ‘not quite’ teen I was intrigued. Then one day he showed me the Oliver Stone movie and played me this album and I was hooked! I still listen to them regularly. Simply one of the best realised debuts in music by a band that came out of the gates fully formed. What an opening statement _Break on Through_ is and _The End_ is just epic. _Light My Fire_ was the first song that Robbie Krieger wrote after Morrison encouraged other members to write.
Masterpiece. And one of the main albums of rock music. We don’t pass by, we definitely listen.
Great album!
The elusive 5. As a teenager I absolutely idolized these guys. I am the lizard King, I can do anything
A very strong debut from The Doors, a band that I got very into as a 16 year old in 2001. The tracks that carry this album are obvious, Light My Fire has to be the best display of an organ solo of all time, I can’t think of any better, what a clinic Ray Manzarek puts on. Jim Morrison’s voice is fantastic, his attitude alongside his songwriting ability and lore make him one of the best rock frontmen of all time. The closer, The End, a wild 10 minute fever dream is a great song to cap this fantastic debut. 5 stars
Essential 60s listening. Sure it's one the soundtrack of all the Vietnam war films. It's wild psychedelic happy stoner road music, crazy, unhinged and glorious. It was great while it lasted and crowd pleasing rebellion. I don't care what the critics say. It works. I enjoy it.
This is such a classic album. The crazy thing is that it was already a ‘classic’ when I was first listening to it c1979 or 1980 (and feeling like I was hearing something very retro) whereas it had only been released about 12 years earlier! It’s now closer to 60 years old… Break On Through, Light My Fire and The End are incredibly well-known of course. It was nice to rehear some of the tracks that pop up less often in popular culture today. I always disliked Alabama Song and that feeling has survived half a century! Reading Joan Didion’s accounts of the band (in her essay collection The White Album) when they were young and white-hot in Summer of Love era San Francisco brought them to life for me in the context of when this album was being conceived and recorded - highly recommended.
I constantly wonder what we would have gotten out of Jim Morrison and the Doors if he had lived longer. I guess will have to be happy with this, which is fine because it's amazing. Such a unique sound with the heavy guitar riffs and organ all covered by Morrison's vocals. Completely captures the vibe of California culture at the time.
One of the best debuts ever. I listened to this over and over in the early seventies. Still love this one
And absolute masterpiece. Need I say more?
Easy 5 stars, no questions asked, one of the best
So good.
best
Classic
J’ai une phase intense « The Doors ».
This record feels like the moment that sex and drugs met Rock’n’Roll. Can’t really argue with this one. Iconic fr.
unreal
Hot take. I think Break On Through is the best song on here. It was the first Doors song I ever heard and I only heard the censored version.
The fact that “The Doors” still works today, almost 60 years after it was released is pretty remarkable. This may be the most important and significant debut album ever released. With poetic lyrics and a blend of musical genres from jazz, psychedelia, blues and rock, the music was pretty unique in its time and proved to be highly influential. I don’t think calling the album a masterpiece is hyperbolic.
Fantástico álbum
Klassiker, 5/5
I hate on the Doors but this album is just impeccable. “The End” gives me an urge to take a boat through Vietnam.
One of the best debuts of any genre…given how many hits and accessible songs of theirs are on this, it really feels like they arrived fully formed. My favorite Doors album, leans more towards than the melodic/blues/psychedelia than the spooky avant-garde stuff of later albums that can feel dated(though it does include “The End”…). Love this album.
Great album one of the best 60s for sure. Must listen and its a no skip as well.
One of the greatest albums ever recorded. Certainly the greatest debut album. This is why we listen to rock music.
One of the greatest albums of all time. A true classic
A true classic. 5 stars from me.
This is the—I don’t remember the other times when I listened to this album. I really enjoyed listening to this album. My favorite song is The Crystal Ship. All other songs were also great! 5/5
classic, no notes
I was almost praying for a Doors album in this list, and i guess there will be more. This one was their debut, one of the greatest debuts of a Rock band. I grew up with them as my big sister was a fan and i used to write her records in cassetes that i still have.As my sister has passed away i might skip The End song for personal reasons. So much nostalgia, memories, i used to be obsessed and had almost everything of them even the books. This band is a genius as a whole, the jazzy drummer John Desmore, the soulful phychedelic virtuoso keyboardist Ray Manzarek, the guitarist Robby Krieger that can play almost everything perfectly and of course Jim Morrison.Such a unique album that still you can hear and enjoy every song even if you've heard it a zillion times. All songs are classic favourites but there are a few that really brought me tears reminding me how good they still are: The Crystal Ship(one of their best in my opinion,so beautiful,it made me cry, again). Light My Fire (the exceptional keys and guitar solo, sooo good, jazzy & soulful phychedelia at it's best). The End,i finally decided to hear this again after almost 28 years or so for personal reasons.Back in the days we used to listen to this with friends and relatives with no lights except some candles for the experience. Now every lyric line strikes a chord, except the Oidepodian ones.It still gives me the chills. What an album, what an era.Even the Beatles were influenced by this one. 5/5
Verdientermaßen ikonisch!
Masterpiece
#162/1001. Mother! Yrs son? I want to…rate this album 5 stars!
Fucking Legend! Almost sixty years, still brilliant.
Psychedelic, loads of swagger, full of great (Soul Kitchen) and classic (Break On Through, Light My Fire, The End) songs. It even gets a bit sexy (Back Door Man - is he talking about the bottom?) There are a couple of weaker songs (Twentieth Century Fox, I looked at You) but the album manages to keep it's momentum. Some really interesting bass and guitar work popping under the slightly dominant keyboard and organ sounds. I have no nostalgia for the 60s (I'm a 90s kid) but this sound just seems to be a wild time capsule and there aren't many bands as instantly recognisable as The Doors. I think there may have been some drugs involved. 4.5
Classic
