Reviews (page 7 of 8)

Some of the instrumentals aren’t bad but the lyrics are just not for me. I’m in the same camp as many other reviewers, just don’t care for this recent soulless pop with no edge/unique qualities to it. It makes me feel nothing, I guess you have to focus on the lyrics to really get a lot out of this. I’ve never related to a heartbroken 14 year old girl so that pretty much takes out 95% of her lyrics for me. Whatever I’m sure the biggest pop star in the world will survive without my support. She always just feels like a tourist in all the genres she visits, not an explorer into uncharted areas. There’s better country (admittedly my favorite era of hers), pop, rock, and folk out there. She never pushes the boundaries in any of these genres, it feels like a music for dummy’s book for casual listeners who don’t explore each genre. That’s very harsh to her fans, I don’t mean to call them dumb. I’m just trying to describe the consistent lack of depth sonically I personally find in her music. Rating: 1.7

Not a swiftie, better girl boss albums exist, if you enjoy good for you I guess

Not quite sure how this ended up in my playlist... Still, could've been worse

As I'm not intrinsically opposed to appreciating or even liking popular pop - that would be dumb, right - and this album had made some unusual waves in my social media cycles, I have listened to this before. However: briefly. My impression now is the same. This is fine, mostly, occasionally pretty, I don't really mind it. But at the end of the day, too slick, too bland. Too beige. Too much of a polished lowest common denominator of what that album's cover translates to in music. I don't need this in my life. And, [some tracks later], I don't think I will remember any of this in an hour from now. Uh, this is going to be one of the reviews in which I drop my rating during the course of me writing it, yeah? Yes. For instance, I realise that Swift's voice just doesn't do anything for me; or her melodies (Quick interlude and comparison here with a Billie Eilish song I have in my library). Bottom line: nah. Somewhere between a 2 and 3, but as this isn't a "Albums by Taylor Swift You Must Hear Before You Die" I'm now mad how this takes up a spot of more deserving albums.

Willow

Probably in the upper half of Taylor’s albums, but I’m not sure why this warrants inclusion over Folklore. Solid folk-pop songs with some good storytelling. Not really something I listen to much. Favorite songs were Willow, no body no crime, and Evermore.

It's OK for background music. On average it's better as an album than her other album in the book, but it doesn't have the stand out songs that 1989 has. All in one ear, out the other. Nothing memorable at all. Favorite song: long story short, but really none of them are really great.

I’m bored and annoyed

I was hoping for a deeper look at folk from a pop perspective. What I got was lilting pop with some acoustic guitar. Fine, just a bit disappointing.

Boring, quite well crafted I suppose, on the whole probably not for me.

She’s really got a type

I feel bad rating this one because I'm pretty sure I am not in the intended demographic.

I’m going to stick to my cranky old man policy and keep ignoring Ms.Swift. I am happy not knowing a single song of hers. Could be the greatest album ever and I’d still pass. She gets 2 stars for her celebrity.

I'm not a huge fan of Taylor Swift's voice, but this album feels very personal and well produced. It's just a little boring to me.

I prefer folklore

Of all the Taylor Swift albums to grace this collection, I'm kind of surprised that this one is here. Arguably one of her less-popular albums, with only one single that I didn't even remember the name of. While this does show a bit of both of her "sides" musically (pop and country), this is a pretty slow, almost depressing album for T.S. Seeing that it came out at the end of 2020 after a pandemic year makes a little more sense for the tone. Some of the songs on this just seem honestly bad (closure, long story short) from both a music and lyrical standpoint, which isn't something I think of with Taylor Swift often. The whole album just lacks energy from her singing that's usually there. Not sure if she was just in a bad headspace, the global pandemic was keeping her down, or this album was more about contractual obligation than a passion project, but while it has her trademark hooks and dips there's just no soul behind it. Not excited about this album, probably one I won't listen to again to be honest. Just way below her standard.

I don't dislike this album, in fact it is in my opinion one of the better Taylor Swift albums. This style brings out some of her better songwriting instincts. The aesthetic is cozy, folksy, and sounds pristine. The problem is this: this album was the Part 2 to the Part 1 of Folklore. Folklore is the better album. Evermore being here means one of two things: a) this album is on the list, while Folklore is not, which would be dumb; or b) both albums are on the list...which would be dumber. It's nice. It's far from essential.

Decent, not for me but I can see why it keeps her fans happy. A high 2

not my thing. the few times i paid attention to a lyric it felt like an actor staring at the camera with extra stank face.

a surprise release by swift at the tail end of 2020. while she claims it's a departure from her usual sound, this is literally typical taylor swift music, just instead of electric guitars and drum machines it's acoustic guitars and minimal percussion. i can't relate to taylor's music. it's cookie-cutter noise fodder for simple girls and gays who don't have a personality. yeah, life. men. people? life and men. and marriage and breakups. revenge. time. i miss you. ever been in a relationship? we fought. you're bad but i miss you. i'm gonna do my own thing. this album does not make me feel anything. it's produced decently enough but it's a nothing album.

Wow this one was so incredibly boring. 2 Taylor swift albums within a 5 day span and one was very clearly better. This album feels like a cliche-packed parody of a Taylor swift album.

It is dull as dishwater. there is nothing offensive or unlistenable about this album but there is nothing of a spark or interest. It feels a sad state for music that this is what is now one of the most popular artists in the world.

No thank you

While I appreciate the attempt at a transition away from standard pop, I still find that Taylor Swift's songwriting really grates on me. Generally, I like the sparse, folky and ambient nature of the tracks, but the lyrics and structure don't do it for me. Some cool features on here but not enough to warrant a relisten. Best Tracks: - Coney Island Worst Tracks: - Champagne Problems - Happiness - Marjorie Rating: 3/10

Not typically my music but a well-written album with catchy tunes

A nice gal, but this album is slow and weepy.

i just feel like she has such negative vibes ? does everyone feel that ?? like she seems like such a loser LOL ... anyways this is like the most okay i find her, and I was telling Nick that i like the other 2020 one more but like jesus she is intolerable

Pop/country, inte för mig.

I Had A Feeling So Peculiar This Pain Wouldn't Be For Evermore 1001 Albums Generator 15 (04/22/2025) So apparently Travis Kelce's girlfriend makes music, who knew! This individual is named Taylor Swift and evermore is her ninth album. Written as a sister album to her eighth outing, folklore, these albums represented a new direction for Ms. Swift, moving towards some sort of folksy, 'artsy' sound that was meant to not be as poppy as her previous records. These albums were conceived during the COVID-19 quarantine and were both surprise releases. Now, as I am a human being living on planet Earth, I do have an opinion about Taylor Swift. However, I think that doing something such as this challenge is a good excuse to put aside all my biases, as best as I can, and judge this album with fresh eyes. This is a singer-songwriter album at the end of the day, so what better place to start than the lyrics? I feel like a contrarian asshole, but I struggle to find the depth in the lyrics here that is supposedly on display. Everything that I read about this album emphasizes that this album is much more introspective and focuses on character studies, emphasizing themes of escapism, but I don't see it. One of my problems with Taylor Swift has been her shallow lyrics, so I was excited to get some T-Swizzle with deeper lyrics, but maybe my expectations were a bit high. every song with the exception of No Body No Crime and Marjorie are about falling in love or heartbreak. This isn't necessarily even a bad thing, and Taylor Swift is totally competent at writing songs about these things, but calling this album lyrically deep is a bit misleading, no? Musically, there is certainly something interesting happening in a lot of these songs. Willow, the opening track, is chamber folk, with a glockenspiel, flute, and strings backing the more standard instrumentation and vocals. It also features a truly interesting finger picked guitar part. Very Americana, Ms. Swift! Tolerate It features a really interesting rhythm and is very restrained in its songwriting, staying as just piano and Swift's vocals for the majority of it until a light electronic beat slowly comes in (which totally changes how I hear the rhythm by the way. I was hearing it in 7/4 with the slower four piano chords being quarter notes when it first started, but the drums are in a triplet 10/4, with the faster four piano chords being quarter notes. Who would have thought?) Very interesting rhythms, Ms. Swift! Closure is pretty fascinating piece of glitch pop (?) with electronic drums in a 5/4 rhythm. Kind of got some IDM vibes from it, expecially with how the piano and drums are handled. Very Aphex Twin, Ms. Swift! The closing title track is perfectly simple, with a memorable piano part during the verses and choruses that change into a more high tempo bridge with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. Very great album closer, Ms. Swift! While about half the tracklist showcases a good amount of eclecticism on display (at least by pop standards), the other half unfortunately approximates the sound of beige. The second track on the album, Champagne Problems, is boring 4-chord slop, but the guitar part between the verses is kind of cool. There's this run near the end of the album from Coney Island through Marjorie that is particularly dreadful. The only song in that run that had anything that impressed me was Ivy, which featured some cool banjo, played by Justin Vernon. In general, this album, while perhaps interesting and eclectic by Taylor Swift standards, still struggles to justify its hour long runtime. I feel as though this album is overrated due to being "more artsy" than her other projects. While this is true (although greatly overstated), artistic ambition alone does not a great album make. 2/5 Favs: Tolerate It Dorothea Evermore Least Fav: Coney Island

bland af

Zzzzzzzzzz

not particularly interesting to me - just a soft voice and muted tunes

Not a big fan of swift but she’s written some great songs. That being said, there was nothing in this album i was particularly impressed with.

Christ.

Basic, watered down, not memorable. Wouldn't relisten

It's not terrible but so incredibly bland. Insane that this is the music that drives an entire fanbase to be almost psychotics.

Nothing lasts forever; even Taylor Swift.

It's too produced. Reminds me of M83 electricity fused with Bon Iver's musicality but it is a touch unsure of itself. Taylor wants the country but is stuck in the pop world. "happiness" is an incredible example of this. It's just a weird dichotomy. Normally, this would speak to my sensibilities but it's missing passion, emotional investment. She wanted folklore, she presented an academic paper: cold, edited, distance.

Beautiful production. But the lyrics feel like they were written by a 15 year old.

Taylor Swift is a cultural phenomenon. It's therefore unsurprising, and right that one of her albums is included on the list. However, musically, there's not anything much to recommend. It reminds me of Coldplay in way, utterly beige music that a lot of people absolutely love but I've no idea why. The Coldplay comparison is a little harsh, as this album doesn't display the cynical attempts at emotional manipulation that Coldplay's music does, and Taylor's lyrics are more personal and confessional, which I respect. It's just so bland though and too long. By the end I was glad it was over.

I actually never listened to this in full before today and honestly there are some great gems on here. No body no crime reminds me of the early Taylor sound I used to love as a teen. I wouldn’t say it’s revolutionary or entirely innovative as an album but I appreciate the cohesiveness as a body of work.

Why is this included in the list 😭

not for me

So pop and rap have kind of merged together at some point? I always thought Taylor was more country pop and I'm not sure there's even an acoustic guitar on this album. There's a song that feels bro-country (get in a truck and get stuck in the mud), but I was surprised how not country most of it was. There's a lot of shit on here that made me roll my eyes, some just garbage punchlines and some of the cursing feels tacked on. There's a lot more odd choices/formats and glitchy sounds than I expected from a pop album, but I didn't care for much of it. One of the things that I hate about Pop is that it feels so manufactured and fake. Musically some of this sounds like this, but there's no doubt she's putting some personal shit out there, so I have to give her points for that. I imagine some of the fun is learning all the gossip around these songs- who she's talking about, what she's referencing, but that's not enough to get me back into this album.

It’s ok. It was too slow overall. She has better stuff than this

Ehh, I know I’m pretty far from the target demographic for this album, but I just don’t see what the fuss is all about. Sort of reminded me of that Ed Sheeran mix of modern pop plus a bit of folksy acoustic guitar. Maybe this great if you’re a broad who’s dated a bunch of lousy men, but it’s just not for me. Pretty middle of the road, not too great but certainly not terrible either. Solid 2.5 ⭐️ which probably would have rounded up to 3, until Bon Iver turned up on the final track 😒.

It’s not hard to see why she’s so popular. TS is the poster child for how to subvert toxic masculinity while at the same time never being boyfriendless. I’m not a fan, though, and this one in particular is awfully light, inoffensive fare. It sounds like music for people that don’t really like music, and the lyrics seem always the same: it’s always the other guy’s/girl’s fault.

It started off strong willow which I really liked but i sort of didn't really like anything else as much. There wasn't anything too special and it plateued there for a pretty long album. Favorite songs: willow and evermore. Least favorite: basically, all of the other songs I thought sounded a bit boring.

how is this worth $1.6 billion?

was so pleased to be assigned a modern album by a woman i barely cared that this was taylor as someone who's not a particular fan: is this really like, a more interesting album to pick than her other work? i feel like this is the equivalent of watching a white woman on youtube do an acoustic cover of a song and being like "WOW, groundbreaking" anyway the murder ballad was the highlight for me

Album art: 1

Like another reviewer wrote, there's nothing wrong with this record, it's just bland. Same mood throughout and it's very monotonous to that effect. Easy on the ears, so that's nice. Just not much to it.

I’ve listened to and enjoyed other TS albums but this isn’t one of those. As a 38yo straight dude, I don’t think I’m the target demographic for her, but I don’t find her lyrics to be all that deep or her singing to be anything special. It could also be because I’m not a Bon Iver fan. Given that she’s the biggest pop artist in the world, I’m clearly outnumbered so I’ll let y’all enjoy it.

No question Swift is an unstoppable force, but just like the last album by 50cent - I am not close to her target audience. I won’t go as far as to say it totally sucks, but I will never listen to it again on purpose. One word description -boring.

Fairly boring to me—fine as background music when I’m not paying attention. Probably best appreciated by full-fledged Swifties, which I am not.

I have 3 daughters under 13...so I am familiar with Taylor's work. This one, however just doesnt have good songs. I even like many of the "indie" folk on the record...none of the songs are strong, though.

honestly, incredibly boring. I literally had it playing and at one point I forgot I was listening to music. It wasn't offensive, just...boring.

She’s just not my cup of tea

I can accept “Folklore” and “1989” being on this list but “evermore”??? Free yourself from the Taylor Swift Industrial Complex.

Gets more compositionally boring and less emotionally convincing as it goes on. Criminal that HAIM gets the worst song on the album.

I hate to let my negative biases get to me, especially when music nerds consider this to be her best but I just can't help but feel annoyed listening to this. I can separate Taylor's music from all her shenanigans and fanbase but it's hard not to also think of her as this overpresent pop artist who can make a catchy song but often times is too wrapped up in her own personal drama for me to ever care. I guess on the other hand the thing that makes me not so negative on "evermore" is that she IS a good singer capable of making some sweet melodies as well as the folksy instrumentals aren't that bad so I don't mind them but I just cannot get past the lyrics whenever I would catch an awkward lyric or silly metaphor or maybe when some of her guests didn't do much for a song (like Bon Iver). It's especially worse in an album that's more singer songwriter focused so hearing these things made me have even less patience with the album than I would otherwise. Really, if the album was 30 minutes shorter and excluded some of the weirder lines, I would not think too hard about this album or something but it does. Like I said too, part of my negativity towards this album is probably my negative connotations with TS and her songwriting so, don't take my rating seriously

One of the most overrated artist in our era. I hope later she will find oblivion.

evermore = never again. We’ve certainly listened to a lot worse. This album was too sad and too country for me. Cowboy Like Me and Long Story Short are horrible, Ivy wasn’t that bad. Title track is somber. No need for me to explore her music further. (2.5*s)

I have SiriusXM, listen to mainstream music, and am familiar with a lot of Taylor Swift's songs so it was a surprise to see this album on the list. It's really soft, relatively bland, and I didn't recognize a single song from it. I thought it would have at least a couple pop hits. I'm not ashamed to admit I like a few of her songs but I def don't get all the excessive hype around her. Her music is geared toward a younger crowd but I appreciated some of the more grown up emotion displayed on evermore. Still, a lot of this album sounded the same, it ran a bit long, and there was nothing memorable. I didn't love it, but I also don't actively hate it. She does have a nice voice and I respect that she plays her own instruments. 2.35

Though Taylor Swift is probably the biggest artist on the planet right now I'm relatively unfamiliar with her work beyond a handful of radio hits. I went into this listen with pretty low expectations for a handful of reasons. For one, its nearly impossible for an artist of Taylor Swift's level to live up to the hype. Regardless of the quality of Evermore as an album, the Swifty fanbase has blown everything so far out of proportion that it is hard to get a genuine take on it. Another key aspect is that I don't expect that I am anywhere near the target demographic. I can recognize that many popular artists are creating music for a variety of younger mainstream audiences as opposed to a mid-30's father of 2 toddlers. I can typically separate myself from this fact and recognize the music for what it is regardless of whether it is my cup of tea or not. I can admit some forms of radio pop hits can tickle my fancy, including a couple T Swift tracks I've heard in the past. With that in mind I approached Evermore with an open mind and tempered expectations. It's certainly nothing to herald as amazing, but I found it to be an OK listen. My main criticism is that there's very little that moved the needle in either direction good or bad. All the songs sounded pretty much the same and lived in the same melodramatic alt-pop genre. It felt like a handful of somewhat generic alt-pop songs with some There's a little more emotional edge it was a little more somber and heartfelt than the prior work I had heard from TS. For 60 mins of mainstream pop I guess you can do a lot worse. This didn't do much to make me think Taylor Swift is anything near a transcendent artist, but it also didn't turn me into a hater or make me want to turn it off. Not necessarily looking forward to anything else from Swift on the list. 1.70 stars

Boooo. I’m not the biggest fan of Taylor Swift but I do recognize her huge impact on people’s opinions but this did not prove anything. I thought this was really rather boring and dissuaded me from her influence.

Feels more a component of the 1001 Pieces of the Current Cultural Zeitgeist list. Can anything at all released within (at least) the past 4 years already be deemed that important? I will give her this: it'd be pretty cool if you were a big fan and had no idea an album was coming then *bam* here's a new release, that's undeniably fun and maybe the reason it's here (not a good one, but...)...? As for the actual music - it's kinda nice I suppose...her normal melodic if not predictably bland tunes - but as ever she is really the current Bon Jovi for the world teenage circuit in terms of painfully obvious cliched and annoyingly awful lyrics. I guess I need to remind myself this is all just not for me - long narratives of (dubiously) personal mundane first-person experiences but dropping little weirdly unhip cultural references like wearing an Eagles t-shirt...ehh.... that alone is so meta-Taylor Swift. I realized listening to this that even though the perfectly tuned production and mix are off-putting to me and not my jam, it's truly her lyrics that make me roll my eyes and bypass her (on the very rare occasions I am subjected to her music). It's all fine enough and inoffensive but I just don't think much of her at all as a lyricist or singer - lovely voice in a way but there's not any *there* there. So emotionless, it's just Color-By-Numbers pop music that's safe enough for all ages. I'd much rather listen to her sing a "Shake It Off" pixie-stix-like fun pop song. Again: this is fine, my life isn't any worse for having listened to this and I don't truly dislike anything (although it's 2x as long as my attention span is for pop music) but I don't remember any of it afterwards. It'd have been nice to give almost any other artist a shot.  (...amending: I do actually *actively* dislike the songs with The National and Bon Iver - terribly annoying singers) 4/10 2 stars.

I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this. It's okay but lacks a few different things.

Dry white toast

Some enjoyable parts but not my jam

I understand TS hype in some ways, but i think she has better albums to be on the list. This is a great album, but not necessarily to listen before we die :)

Hmmmm not quite sure how this has made the list

Well here I am folks! The female in 2024 who has never listened to a Taylor Swift album- until today. This is very low energy. So bland. I know I’ve heard her be more pop on the radio. Not gonna lie I dozed off in the middle and had to go back and listen to a song I missed. (Dorothea everybody wants to be ya 🤨) She has made more money than anybody else for so long now. I’m going to give her the benefit of doubt that she has better albums than this one.

not a swifty

2692 - Technically competent, but very boring. I like the country songs. C

Phoebe bridgers for people scared of queer artists 5.2

I only really liked "Willow" from this. Everything else kind of has the beauty of the perfect shade of millennial gray. The songs all sound the same, but they don't sound bad.

Man this blows. I do like the singer from The National but everything Swift does is built to be commercially emotional. This feels like the fall of art. Fully customizing every heartstring in the simplest form with the laziest symbolism and the most generic lines to remember. I'm glad people find meaning in this but the pretend depth is brutal to hear. I do think Swift should be on the list, but if music wasn't a way to be rich, there's no way this would exist. Production is strong.

Probably would be better if they replaced her vocals with a trumpet. Created in a lab. The track happiness at least sounds a little more stripped down. The content is so repetitive. This is too sanitized and no catchy hooks.

I dunno, man.

Good production and she has a beautiful voice that doesn't sound autotuned, which is a very good thing these days. I just can't get into the lyrics at all though.

It's a Taylor Swift album. To me, many songs sound the same and the album doesn't excite or surprise me in any way. That being said, there are some standouts, like 'Willow' and the voices of Bon Iver and Matt Berninger are welcome.

Only gave it a 2 because it got a cozy atmosphere, but other than that it was boring and bland

i can see why these weren’t put on folklore lmao damn near a 1 star bc i can’t stand that willow song after working in retail

If the feeling of being nauseous was an album. It felt like one, long, boring song. I read that this album consists mostly of offtakes from Folklore, which I really like, yet Evermore is so much different. Definitely there was a reason those songs weren't used in the original album, it's most likely a cash grab. Another wasted half an hour.

Obviously, I'm not the audience this is aimed at. It was okay: I wouldn't try to block it out if it came on while I was sitting in Starbucks, but otherwise it wasn't much more than aural wallpaper for me. Maybe I need to listen enough to get the lyrics or something...?

I tried not to be a hater but honestly I was falling asleep. Not like I had to turn it off or anything but I didn't feel anything listening to this. 1.8.

I listened to this. The first TS album I’ve ever heard. It’s not something I’m going to listen to, but within the space where her music exists (meaning she doesn’t veer away from her strengths), she can write songs that appeal to the masses. So it’s not a 1/5. I do think that she could stand to have parts of her songs where there is no singing. She’s singing at all times. Just let the songs breathe a little, you know? 2/5

Pfffffbbbbbfffffttttt

I can respect the appeal TS has for her fans whilst remaining immune to it. This is a pleasing thing.

Indie vibes with that familiar Swift style. I was hoping TayTay was gonna step out of her comfort zone with this one and make something interesting. Alas I am disappointed again.

For a star as big as Taylor Swift, I'd be expecting a bit more but a lot of this album felt very samey and didn't really grasp me at all

Ei ole minua varten tämä

Can she sing - yes. Sounds every song the same - yes. Well arranged boredom. 🥱 little highlights: "no body, no crime", "long story short"

I didn't enjoy any of the songs on this album. It kinda got better near the end but really bland for me

I liked one song. There was no variety, and even the angry song I liked was low-key.

I get it’s a departure for her, but it’s very samey.

I guess I’ll never understand it. This is so totally average, and her carbon footprint is enormous.

I don’t want to invite the wrath of swifties but compared to some of her other albums, this one just didn’t move the needle. Standard pop album that didn’t really stand out and the vocal range seemed pretty basic

I tried but couldn’t finish it.

Actually wasn't so horrible. I'll never listen to it again though.

Ok I just broke my vow to myself to never choose to listen to this performer. I listened to the first song and 8 seconds of the second. This music is white magic and no wonder she's the richest singer of them all. I'll give 2 stars for the wonder of how this is allowed to happen.

First song was great but it was all downhill from there. The rest, whilst very polished, sounded generally bland, wish it went harder sometimes. She enunciates very clearly but if you have a long album there should be some more variety. Stand-out: willow

I tried to put my anti-Swift bias to the side and see what this album had to offer, since I know this one is pretty highly regarded among her fans. The folkier side somewhat suits her, especially that one that's kind of country about the guy cheating. But then the next song rolls around, and the next, and the next...and oh god there's still another 6 songs left?! This thing feels like it goes on forever. The songs start to blend into each other, nothing really sticks out. Her vocals and lyrics are far from enough to hold interest, which is the same issue I have with everything she's done after this album. Just a little variety or a cool hook or bridge somewhere wouldn't go amiss. Still not a fan.

Quite possiblly the most generic album I have ever listened to. There were no risks on this album. Cookie cutter song writing. Taylor Swift has a great voice. Her lyric writing is God awful. I've seen videos of her writing lyrics to songs and her getting excited about certain lines as if she just wrote the most clever lyric ever... And they're just bad. This album is stale. Are there any new adult Taylor Swift fans? Like, if one was never a fan when they were younger and grew up listening to her, do you think that a 30 something year old who just put on a Taylor Swift record would think she's this crazy amazing star? I highly doubt it. She's one of the most iconic artists right now and has been for a while. But whereas Beatles or Michael Jackson level of fame comes in, she will never hold a candle to the sheer talent that comes from those bands. Taylor Swift is lucky that her music caters to suburban white pre teen girls. Where songs are as cliche as you think they are: the only struggle in life is a relationship.

Better than the other one I heard. Pretty chilled out album. She has a very safe formula though and it gets boring.

Would I listen to it again: no Is it a no-skip album: - Favorite song: - Least favorite song: - Do I like it: no

Much slower and much less of a pop album than the other one I’ve listen to for this list. Didn’t really have any stand out songs and still way too overproduced. 2/5 Won’t listen again

im not hating cos its taylor swift but i don't think I'm the intended audience for this album and that's purely subjective plus the taylor i know is from the country, romeo and juliet era so I'm not clued up on her work but it wasn't complete ass so i cant give it a 1

It's very mellow. Not bad but not something I want to listen to again... even in my darkest moods.

Why is this on here? I’m not even a Tswift hater but this is 🥱 no song stands out and has the same tempo and progression. Plus one point for lyrics which aren’t to my taste but are decently good.

Lovely pop

It’s good, but sad, sappy, and sentimental. I prefer the Swift albums that have lots of bops. COVID almost ruined Taylor Swift.

It's inoffensive if a little dull. I'm sure it would be easy to shit on Taylor as she's become irritatingly ubiquitous and I'm really not sure she deserves it. The songs are ok and she can sing them just fine but I don't really see the appeal above any other young pop female singing about their breakups while seeming to sit on a mildly feminist platform. I gave it a couple of spins but don't see myself coming back for any of it.

Why is this even on the list?

Favourite song - Evermore

One of her worst albums. Real lack of range in the songs, and seems like most sounded the same.

What you get when the angsty teen who breaks up with everyone and wonders why nobody likes her watches one 10 minute philosophy video on YouTube and thinks she’s deep and mysterious. Overproduced, but that at least keeps it from going down to 1 star.

All the songs are practically the same

I like willow and no body, no crime. The rest of the songs are good songwriting but very bland and feel like music that plays in the background at Target, which is how I already felt about Taylor Swift. So this didn't really change my impression.

This would have benefitted from taking more risk on the instrumentation - I liked the harmonica and the electric guitar on "no body, no crime", for example, but it built to the repeating chorus with the same drums and guitar as all the other tracks. The drums I especially dislike - really flat. I wonder if I would like her live versions of these songs more. Some of these songs are just itching to be stripped down and have some guitar string noise or piano thump. At least "closure" woke me up - it bursts in with an odd time signature and some folktronica pots-and-pans noise. Interesting. Sounds like an "Age of Adz" knockoff. And then - sigh - a soft piano ballad starts to compete with it. It kind of works, but taylor doesn't have enough edge to push-and-pull with the production. Fascinating that they got BJ Burton, who did some excellent production on Charli XCX's hyperpop banger HIFN, to co-produce this. I want more of this, but judging from the streaming numbers (it's the least popular song by a pretty significant margin) it's a creative risk that the fans didn't appreciate. I think it's hard to comment on a taylor swift album without also indirectly commenting on Taylor Swift, the cultural phenomenon. this album is very taylor swift, lowercase. I like that she's put such an emphasis on songriting into the pop landscape - her conversational singing style is front-and-center here. I find the lyricism a little too unsubtle, adjective-laden and clumsy in parts. "Tell me when did your winning smile start to look like a smirk", "lost in the current like a priceless wine", "if the shoe fits, walk in it till your high heels break". It just doesn't have the passion and subtelty of other modern singer/songwriters like adrianne lenker, joanna newsom, fiona apple, pj harvey. Disappointing and pretty tame for what I was expecting to be a compelling foray into the "indie-pop" sound. I wasn't expecting Evermore to grate on me so much that I'd write so much about it.

I know I’m in the massive minority but frankly my dear, I just don’t give a damn

This album was very boring and bland. All the tracks sort of blended together and I couldn't tell you a single song off this album if you asked me. Overall, not very impressive.

Better modern pop than others in the list (and having The National hanging around certainly aides its mood) but I'm not the right demographic for this - and that in itself is disappointing. If music is worth listening to before you die then surely it exists outside of its typical demographic. And it speaks volumes that all the best tracks have featured artists. Sorry Swifties, it's music to make a regretable social media post to. Best Tracks: No Body, No Crime (feat. HAIM); Coney Island (feat. The National); Evermore (feat. Bon Iver)

From a different artist this might be a four, but I am just so disappointed that I actually haven't been judgemental in not liking Taylor Swift. I so want this to be good, but its just neither interesting, listenable or inventive. Despite some glimpses of actually very good tunes, this just doesn't justify Taylor Swift being as big as she is. It's okay for background music, which is how I ended up listening to it. It kind of sound like writing a ton of pop songs, trying to be inventive with a more country-esque sound but ending up sounding like some mediocre hits from the 90s with better production. In my opinion, this is at her best when she embraces being a pop star with a more electronic image. «Gold rush» is brilliant, «Long story short» is catchy, and there are some ballads. But the whole cottagecore thing feels more like a gimmic that drags the album down.

Believe it or not, in March 2024, this is the first time I have (knowingly) heard Taylor Swift's music. And having played it, I suspect I'll probably never do so again! I think I'm not in the target demographic, and I found the record a bit dull and mainstream. Having said that, Swift is massively successful, so this stuff chimes with many people.

Lacks depth imo

Never done any Ms Swift listening apart from the Shake It thing. This isn't meant for me - it's fine, but it really will be stuff for my 18 month old daughter to love, not her 50+ dad

I tried. I promise you I tried.

It may be something special for Taylor Swift to produce an album with just a few instruments. The musical themes are repetitive and the vocals get boring with every track. Perhaps a glass of red wine and candlelight will help you to enjoy the album to some extent.

I have room in my heart to appreciate Taylor Swift as a high end pop star. But Taylor Swift doing ultra processed indie folk? Not great!

I got through some, seems fine i guess but if you're not listening for lyrics, which is me, then it's pretty bland. Will I listen to again: 0%

I just don't get it. This was a very tedious album.

Really good songs. Simple but elegant production, beautiful voice, tunes that sweep you up subtley. A whole album is a bit samey, a bit singer-songwritery (of course). High quality; not something that I personally would listen to much. Strangely, if the album was a bit shorter, it would have more punch.

Extremely generic. I know it kinda supposed to be that way. It's pop so... Taylor Swift just tries to be a bad bitch in some songs and in other songs she is a kind teen girl. I don't like the split personality. She tries too hard to show all of her faces on the single album. 2/5 is generous.

This album, to be fair, is less pop, more indie folk. Completely unplugged and minimalistic with soft piano playing and finger picked guitar with hardly any precussion at all, but it's still Tay Tay. Even though this is a stripped down album, the pop bullshit is still there. I just really hate modern pop music. A review I read of this album made an interesting point that I kind of relate to. The vocals of this pop shit are so God damn polished that there are literally no flaws or grit or humanness to them at all. The musical accompaniment is fine, and just based on music alone, it is fine, but the manufactured vocals just leave a bad taste in my mouth. Not to say that Taylor can't sing, because she can, but the vocals are just.... Too perfect.... I guess?!? I like to feel like I'm listening to a human sing to me, not a robot. This album was fine, just really not my jam.... At all. Favourite songs: cowboy like me, champagne problems, coney island, dorothea, marjorie, evermore Least favourite songs: closure, happiness (there's the break up song....there's one on every Taylor Swift album...) 2/5

Having never listened to a Taylor Swift record… this was not bad. Not my go-to but better than I expected

Ok, I know you’re an authentic musician and you’ve every right to write and record whatever you want. But… I’m here for your pop anthems, karaoke classics, car tape sing-a-longs and wedding dance floor favourites. I don’t give a shit about your hour of considered folk ballads. Sorry Taylor.

Background noise

This isn't exactly bad, but it's also not really anything. It's overproduced and seems like normal inauthentic pop music. Music for people who just listen to whatever is on terrestrial radio. I don't see how the type of person who would take on this project really needs to hear this. Even if they haven't heard this specifically, they've heard it many times before.

If you've heard one you've heard the album. I knows there even better taylor swift than this. Do I have to listen to 8 other better albums by her on this list?

This album has the sharp edges of a basketball.

The only Swifty reference i can relate to is Rick and Morty doing.. Get Swifty. Lol I'm really not a Taylor Swift fan in any way, but I do recognise she has a wide appeal to kids. Anyway... this album... well Taylor can sing, has a nice voice and vocal range, but it's just that this album was back to her country / folk roots.... and if there's ever a genre I hate with an absolute passion... its country. So ok, this isn't a hick country album, it is more folk music, but I still have only 2 words to sum up the album. Incredibly Booorrrrring 💤

Si je voulais écouter du Taylor Swift, j’allumerais la radio

Levyn riisuttu estetiikka on lähellä vahvuutta, mutta taitaa silti olla heikkous: dynamiikkaa yksinkertaisesti kaipaa. Biiseistä: helvetin kova avausraita, ja Ivy on Olivia Rodrigon Lacyn esivanhempi. Valikoima vajoaa kuitenkin kokonaisuutena suvantoihin. 2,5.

Not many albums can give me a negative physical reaction, and for that it gets a 2. I had to listen to this in two seperare listens so i could actually critique it properly instead of seeing it as music i don't like personally. The only reason it doesn't get a 1 is that there are some bearable songs on here as opposed to others albums where I have to turn it off straight away or my ears bleed. It's so simple but it being simple makes it so much worse instead of making it better like it should be. These lyrics are also questionable. I'm not against pop by any means because things like RAZZMATAZZ slaps. This just feels like semi emotional elevator music. Actually that's mean to elevator music

The first time I'd knowingly listened to Taylor Swift (apart from that trouble song with the goat) and I must admit to being disappointed. Nice enough but like a John Lewis Christmas advert playlist.

I was expecting something better than this. Great clean vocals but obviously targeted at ‘my-life-is-the-most-important-pipe-of-poop’ teenage girls distressing about the tiniest slight on a daily basis.

Initially thought maybe worth a 3, but then album kept dragging on. I appreciate the stripped back approach on this album, haunting in a chic way, but I can’t seem to get past the idea that a condensed album consisting of the best tracks from this album and the one prior would be a better overall record. She also needs to pump the brakes and let her music breathe a bit more in between albums, and maybe check out some other producers than Jack Antonoff, the same approach and vocal pattern on e v e r y track gets boring and cheesy after a while.

Started off well, the Willow song is familiar but I didn’t know that Tay Tay sang it. I enjoyed its tempo and thought maybe I’d enjoy the rest of the album if that was how the opening track was, but for me it went downhill. It all got a bit depressing for me after the first track and started to become a bit of a chore to listen to.

Never listened to Swifty before, I was aware of the 'I hate you so much and we aren't ever getting back together song' and the 'shakey song' , but that was about it. However I'll give an artist I've steadfastly tried to avoid a listen as it's on here. I see the words 'Indie', 'alternative' and 'experimental' mentioned for this album, the latter two words intrigued me, as I thought she was just some cowgirl with boyfriend issues. I was annoyed with the first word, I'm aware she is a stupid-multi platinum selling artist which makes a mockery of the word in my opinion, but that aside, and definitely no bias at all, I'd give it a listen. Liked the first track 'Willow', a nice vibe and seemed like the cowgirl had been locked in rehab or something. Definitely the highlight and I had high hopes of enjoying this. The rest was pleasant enough, although a bit wordy (I didn't give a shit about what she was singing about - probably a few more blokes who didn't come up to scratch). 'Experimental'? Probably for her I guess, as I didn't get too much of a smell of sweaty chaps while listening to it, so a bit of a departure from her country and mainstream pop roots (I take that back as the smell came through loud and strong on track 11). 'Alternative'? Maybe, compared to listening to a whole album of Haim I suppose. Pleasant enough, but plain and ordinary and no bile. 3/4 through it and just wished to pace would change... A mid 2.

Generic pop.

Eh. It's Taylor Swift

very competent, but uninspiring. Dragged on a bit.

Forgettable

So yeah, Taylor Swift. I hadn't considered that this list would have Taylor Swift albums on it, but I guess it makes sense. Taylor Swift is interesting to me because she is so culturally ubiquitous that rivals maybe only Michael Jackson in my lifetime, yet I really don't have any idea what her music sounds like. I am familiar with the song "Shake It Off" only because Screaming Females did a ripping cover of it that I really like. Anyway, I guess this was a surprise Covid release and from what I read embraces much more cozy/acoustic lived in moods than some of her other poppier/dancier stuff. I am here to say that it's fine... I guess. Clearly it's well produced and it's catchy and it has a nice list of featured guests, but it is just so flat and uninteresting to me. I guess I can say now that I know what she sounds like, and I'm assuming there will likely be at least another one of her albums on this list. I don't have high expectations.

Soft girly guitar pop. Solid but boring.

https://youtube.com/shorts/twI5BZgvges?si=hD2boFdb5DmlYX5S

If I'd just been through a break-up or I was a teenage girl (or preferably both I'm guessing) then I would have been all over this. But I'm neither of those and so I sit squarely outside of Swifty's demographic and also struggle to connect.

Okay well, I hope no one finds out I've got this playing. That's grounds to get your ass kicked! I'll give it a go. Okay first of all why not capitalize any words! That's just stupid. I do like the album cover. It reminds me of Corvallis. I can smell the autumn in that picture. Takes me back to simpler times. Okay it's not terrible. I actually like the second track Champagne Problems.

aijjaha... niin moderni megapoppitytteli, pienellä kaikkien biisien alkukirjaimet (pretentious), hiljaa kuiskuten lauleskelee (huono laulaja) meikän pakko vihata? vai niinkö luulet? pakko niin iso mies iso mies ei tälläsiä kuuntele vai mitä siellä mietitään taas???? olet oikeassa, vihaan tätä. protestikakkonen koska tälläisiä albumeja niin vähän vs post punk indie vittu paska ä albumeja champagne problems

I respect her as an artist, but a lot of her lyrics were a bit juvenile to me. I love the overall sound of the album tho.

A hard one to assess as I really don't think this is the stuff for me. Musically, it's unexciting. Swift is obviously a decent singer, and can weave a story. The songwriting is, by turns, kicky and cringeworthy. Perhaps it's a zeitgeist thing, but this rather claustrophobic, personal, confessional style leaves me cold; a kind of artfully delineated stream of consciousness. Production for a modern album is competent enough in the sense that it doesn't make my ears bleed. Really, though, this is the biggest performing artist of the day? I said at the top that this ain't for me, but guess what? I still get to rate it. Two stara.

I’ve heard so much current pop music the past two years and there’s so many others things in that space that I would rather listen to than Taylor Swift. And, of course, this isn’t even really a pop record is it? But everything she touches gets treated as such and I’m not sure why that is other than for reasons having to do with celebrity. It feels like the songwriting matured, but the lyrics did not. That “no body, no crime” song? Yikes. And I kinda felt bad for the dude from The National on that one song, and I don’t even like The National. There’s the opportunity to do something interesting there, but the lyrics let me down. Honestly, this should just be a country record. To her credit, I will say I think that “antihero” song is a step in the right direction. It feels like a blend of pop and folk that works better for me than it does on anything here.

Not my cuppa tea

Somewhere between 2 and 3, but I forgot what yesterday's album even was for a few minutes which seems about right.

A slog of cozy songs written by committee. A perfect soundtrack for trying to sneak in and take a nap at your local Restoration Hardware.

I was never a fan of folk, even if it's made by Taylor Swift. So when she released "folklore" and "evermore", I didn't hopped into the hype that much. I do appreciate the songwriting and the cozy 2020-era quarantine vibes. But there are more enjoyable and quarantine-friendly albums out there. I even prefer "folklore" itself over this. But I guess this is picked because this is where she got comfortable with the genre after exploring it in "folklore", in pretty much the same way with "Red" and "1989" with pop. Overall, I can see the hype, but it's not for me.

Never have been a “Swiftie”, and although this album has some skippers, I enjoyed some of the songs. I admit this sounds like a generic indie-folk record. Standouts: champagne problems, gold rush, tolerate it, closure, and evermore.

Just sounded like average folk music; wouldn't listen to it again but it wasn't absolutely awful

Simple pop album. Nothing great about it.

Nevermore will I listen.

taytay go yawnyawn

Its a little inoffensive and boring but its fine. Dont think i'll listen to it again.

Bit of a chore, one song blended into the other.

I don't get the hype

I wanted to like it more than I did.

Literally couldn't tell the difference between songs. Pop trash.

Ok I guess, if you like that sort of thing. I don’t.

I don't feel equipped to deal with the Folklore accessory without cliché. It's all gossamer, well-produced. Felt nothing in particular about getting through the deluxe release.

Production is so basic, she is great artist but she has to work with good producers

good songs, pretty mellow. Not really the kind of music I was in the mood for today

An album of slow sad ballads, during a time when she's in a slow sad mood due to all her burgeoning legal disputes with the bloke who just purchased her original back catalogue and resulting in her rerecording all her Big Machine albums to create new masters she controlled. So at least studio engineers had steady work for a few months.

Unremarkable and instantly forgettable. It made so little impact that if I listened to it again, I don't think I'd recognise a single track. It's not that it's offensive, it's just so bland that I'm not even certain I heard it. It was like eating a lettuce for dinner. You don't recoil at every bite but you do wonder why you're not eating something with a bit more flavour, variety or both.

Uninspiring, not her best

é melhor do que a maioria do pop atual mas nada novo, certamente tem 1001 albuns melhores

Женский вокал под пианинку конечно круто, но, блять, какая же это нудятина. Прослушал в 3 подхода. 2+

Not unpleasant as background music, but also not interesting in any way. Swift is a good singer, but the songwriting on this album (the only songs by Taylor Swift I've ever heard, apart from 2-3 radio hits) is pretty vapid and meaningless. I don't mind it, but have no reason to listen to it. Why is it on here?

Like a lot of modern pop music it feels bland

kinda surprised she only has 2 albums on here just not a real big fan this was kinda boring

This is the musical equivalent of Kelly Hoppen design. It’s all magnolia with a hint of buttermilk. It’s innocuous and easy to listen to. I must confess I’d never listened to a Taylor Swift album in its entirety until now. I quite like the singles, but I think I got bored of every song being an exposé of a past boyfriend. I like the fact that these are little vignettes and poetic stories that are not always about her. But every one seems to blend into the last. A couple stood out: Marjorie and Tis the Damn Season, also Tolerate It. These are clever ditties but I’m not sure how soon I’ll ever want to return to them. I know her songwriting is celebrated, but I just tolerate it.

Well - this was a new thing. Never listened to the T Schwizzle. Pop music is made differently. Vocals are right on top of the mix - it's Taylor and her backing band - though in this case the backing band includes some indie superstars rather than a hit factory. She's telling a story with all her heart, but it all sounds very contrived. Like a Big Mac but on a nicer plate, it's an album for easy consumption and mass market. I could happily put it on whilst cleaning the house just to drown out the sound of the vacuum cleaner.

She seems like she's able to do better, but she doesn't, instead she goes for a bland, commercial sound.

Boring, white girl music.

This record is definitely not a disaster, but it feels so fake to me.

I have listened to one other Taylor Swift album, also because of this project, and I didn't enjoy it, indeed the immaturity of the lyrics really irritated me. I find I am liking evermore somewhat more. There are some emotions and lessons that take me back to my college days. I don't think this album is as deep as it thinks it is, but it does have flashes of genuine truth and pathos, but certainly stopping shot of revelatory. I do appreciate the more meditative and (mostly) less retributive tone. That said it does go on and on, saying the same thing pretty much the same way over and over. I didn't mind listening once but I'm quite sure I won't be back. I will say the album cover art really nails the feel of the album which is nice. Middle of the road 2.5. I was leaning towards rounding up but after evermore was done spotify played some other songs from some other artists and THEY ALL SOUND THE SAME. Good lord. I haven't listened to the radio in a while. What's happened to pop music?

not my cup of tea

Not my fav from swift.

Pop pop pop, not as catchy or energetic as the last one we listened to. Pop has gone a bit introvert and melancholic which is no bad thing but is this a bad thing?

I'm really not the target demographic

Listenable but it's got a very commercial pop sound. I enjoyed the quiz, "Swift or Shakespeare" though.

My trouble with Taylor Swift is that she's got a few very catchy good pop songs, but her albums are gushingly overrated by the media, which is a turn off. The lyrics on this one feel that they came straight from the inside of Hallmark cards. I don't hate it, but nothing excited me here.

I'm not the target demographic for this...

Sum up the current state of modern music, completely inoffensive and so, so bland. Can't even bring myself to hate it, it's just such a nothing.

A long way from being a bad album, but just too bland. I put it on and it just disappeared into the background. I forgot it was even on. This kind of music is just not for me, I guess.

Better than I thought it'd be, would probably never listen again but it was alright in the background - probably why it's so popular among the masses

Had some moments

Confession time: Taylor Swift is one of my guilty pleasures, and while her albums are pretty hit and miss (with a higher-than-ideal proportion of misses) I genuinely enjoy "1989." Sadly, this is not "1989." She seems to be going back to her country roots a bit here, and with the exception of "Willow" and "Ivy," the album's pretty bland and uninteresting (and those two exceptions mostly get by on their earworm-y hooks). I also didn't care for the countrified male vocals when they popped up. TLDR; this album's further evidence that I prefer her more pop-oriented stuff. (Also, holy shit, "1989" is eight years old. I am old.)

Her vocals aren't terrible, but the lyrics are weak. Giving this two stars cause I hate most modern pop.

Taylor Swift is talented and she's terrific at making pop records but much like modern pop today it's somewhat bland. I don't think "evermore" belongs to the list of 1001 albums you have to listen to. I have the same problem with this album as with other singer-songwriters. There's so much focus on the lyrics and the song that everything else is an afterthought that doesn't get the same level of quality or uniqueness. The instrumentals becomes one homogeneous bland mix without any interesting distinction between the songs.

It’s a strange coincidence that I’m reviewing this album today because my next video review on YouTube will be T-Swivel’s newest album (you heard it here first!). My expectations for this album are very low from what I’ve heard so far of TayTay. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Willow, No Body No Crime I really expected this album to be bad and a chore to listen to. I’m quite happy to be proven wrong - it didn’t blow me away but there were some really good songs to be found here. SwifTay started strong with Willow which was a truly interesting song. The instrumentation was unusual but worked very well. No Body No Crime was again a different sound to the other tracks and told the story of getting away with murder. The problem lies in the fact that the majority of the songs on here were very boring! Having mostly bad songs with a few great ones unfortunately does not make a good album, but there are some redeeming songs that are fun. I’d say 30-40% was enjoyable, with the rest being skippable.

Really not my jam, but far from the unlistenable shite I had half expected

Boring

I don't really get this one.

I don't know what these songs are about. I cannot identify with them at all. Is there some Taylor Swift lore that I need some background on or are they purposely obtuse? The lyrics remind me of those AI-generated bro-country anthems from the radio. The duets sound artificial. This album is just bad.

she's literally just rhyming "hand" and "man" and "plan" this is the singer songwriter of a generation???

I’ve given it 2 because otherwise Scott will cry

Bare ballada jo

I like the cover photo

Long time lurker, first time listening to Taylor swift. It wasn’t that bad, but not very exciting either. She sounds like every other female pop/indie singer out there, particularly Del Rey. Don’t believe the hype.

Not much to elevate this above average

As a pretty big Taylor Swift fan, “evermore” isn’t one of my favorite albums. “Evermore” was released during quarantine with “folklore” which is considered to be its “sister album.” Something about these two albums are very different from the rest of those written by Taylor Swift, and I think part of this is because she was bored while locked up during COVID; and what better time is there to try something new? While most of Taylor Swift’s previous album genres slowly and smoothly phased from country to pop country to pop rock to straight up pop music, “evermore” takes a complete turn into very soft, folk-like music. I find it to be very poetic and it is clear that metaphors are well thought out throughout her tracks on the album and while this may be appealing to some, it is not to me. When I think of “evermore” I think of music which resembles that of a lullaby. There is an elaborate use of acoustic guitar and piano and it gives me a very delicate feel and although the songs have deeper meanings, the melody often bores me. Her other albums such as “reputation”, “Speak Now”, and even “Fearless” where there is a large incorporation of acoustic guitars (similarly to “evermore”) all exhibit a common trait of power; it is as if I can feel the music throughout my body. In contrast, “evermore” is very subtle, and I often associate it as background music and really the only time I listen to it is whilst I study, or if I need music to cry to. It is too soothing, if that is possible. I don’t think I am the only one who feels this way about “evermore,” considering the only popular songs from the album tend to be more pop-like such as “willow,” “no body, no crime,” and “tolerate it.” These are all tracks that are still soft, but convey more emotion like most music in the pop genre. Taylor Swift is still my number one favorite artist, but I would definitely recommend almost any of her other albums over this one if I were trying to persuade a friend into listening to her music. - Guest Review supplied by 14yo swiftie

This was boring. I'm not sure why this was even included in the list, maybe 1001 albums was just too many, but there was nothing exciting, groundbreaking or especially noteworthy about this album. The music was fine but it was just your standard singer songwriter stuff.

There's this thing that certain indie bands do where they'll play the last note of a third or a fifth wrong on purpose as some sort of deconstruction of musical theory(I suspect it's some sort of oedipus complex involving a music teacher). I don't think Taylor Swift is doing it on purpose. Beyoncé could hit those notes. The arrangements were good though.

Bland, samey, dull, with only a couple of songs worth remembering - the one about killing a guy, and maybe the one about going home for Christmas and dick. Other than that, it sounds pretty rushed and unfinished, like it was too soon after her last album and she hadn't properly thought through what songs would be on this record.

Fine, I guess.

Not my kind of thing, found it trite, by the numbers but well sung

Aurally I just didn't like it. Whiny. Champagne in particular was dreadful. Sounded very much like a 14 year old with some serious natural talent, but isn't ready yet and needs better advice. Music is nice though, better without the lyrics

A few of the songs seemed alright but the album isn't really for me

i like chill and acoustic music. this album did not stand out for me at all.

This lady sucks

Not much to redeem

Ok, but not a favourite

How does one manage to sing placidly while fantasizing a murder? More fine radio pop that didn't move me an inch. Don't think I'm ever going to become a Swifty.

Lacks diversity and fails to distinguish itself from other generic albums of the current age.

I know Taylor Swift supposedly reinvented herself in lockdown, and I actually gave the other one (folklore) a listen (meh) - in the end despite its new shiny folk/indie jacket, it still just sounds like modern pop music with those chamber vocal motifs and whiny songwriting/lyrics. 30min would have made it a 3, but at an hour that's a 2/5.

A whole album of the lulls that a good artist would put between the bangers.

Found this pretty boring but some good ones?

Bearable.

So at first I was excited to see this album, because I knew it and because it was possibly the most recent album I've seen on this list. I didn't really know to expect the album either, because as far as I was aware the 1,001 stopped around 2015 and I had no idea that they added anything else. Guess there's some other things to look forward to. Then I realized that this was evermore a not folklore. Folklore was an album that came out at the perfect time in 2020 during the pandemic. It really turn me into a Taylor Swift then, and it made me go back through her catalog, not because of the pop and country but because of the solid songwriting. Folklore was an absolute home run, amazing, quiet, intimate, powerhouse showcase. And then I realized that this was evermore. I have no idea why evermore is on the list. It's possibly proof that folklore was lightning in a bottle, or that it was possible leftovers coming 6 months later. It's boring. I worked my way through this again after only having listened to it once, which is also interesting because it was an album I looked forward to for a long time. There's a few tracks on here that hold up, and the back half of the album finishes strong, but it's too long and too samey.

On maailmassa muitakin biisiaiheita. 2/5 ei oo poikaa kenen perään itkeä.

Ugh. I hate vocal effects.

Some good stuff here but it’s hidden in that god-awful contemporary pop production. I guess my beef is more with that then with Taylor. Oh well

I guess I'm not the one to judge of her work because I'm not part of her fanbase nor am I a fan of this kind of pop, but I found this album painfully linear. Well produced but very cold in her delivery. It's just not for me, at least I can confirm this now.

I have one question. Why is it on this list? I mean, it's not a bad album, but it's a very dull one. A full hour with the same rhythm, the same tone... And don't start me on the lyrics. A folk pop album amongst so many others of the same kind... Why this one in particular? There was so much more in the year 2020 alone... Anyway, next.

In which domineering pop icon Taylor Swift co-opts and bastardizes the label of 'indie' to take up shelf space and sales that should've gone to actual indie artists Musically I can't add anything new to what's already been said here. The album is inoffensive and blandish, but not altogether unlistenable. What has always repulsed me from Swift's music is the blatant inauthenticity in her image and actions. From the time when she pulled her music from Spotify because she 'wasn't making enough' (when her net worth was already in the millions) to now, where she attempts to pass as a reformed indie artist in some sort of half-assed musical rebirth, everything has been a calculated play not in the interest of making music but money. Swift is a cultural chimera, adapting her image to whatever will sell the most albums actual musical content be damned. Her true artistry ended after she abandoned thoughtful songwriting and actually decent musicianship on the first two country albums and traded them in for the big bucks making soulless pop smashes that dominated the cultural zeitgeist for years. So no, Taylor, you don't get to claim to be an indie artist after topping the Billboard time and time again, no matter how many attempted soulful piano ballads and The National collabs you stick on one LP.

That was absolutely painful. Perhaps if I had a full frontal lobotomy then I might find it enjoyable.

Maybe one song I enjoyed, the rest I tolerated. There are so many better albums that came out in 2020 that deserve to be on this list. 4/10

It’s not a terrible song. It’s just the same song over and over. Her phrasing is always the same, the melodies too simple and repetitive. Some songs are either outright or verge on boring. Her lyrics are occasionally pretty ok, but still feel tweeny trying to be grown up. The National was an interesting and ambitious choice for a combination, but ultimately I don’t think it works. Her voice and Matt Berninger’s don’t quite go together in my opinion. A 2.5 rounded down.

She has objective talent but the "music" is drivel.

Interesting to start with but soon became almost soporifically boring. Just platitudes set to music.

Boring balladry…. Not a scratch on her more poppier output!

Although I respect her as an artist for rerecording her own material to reclaim ownership from her label, and even perhaps as a person for her acts of generosity to independent record stores, I can't say I enjoyed this. I have tried to listen to these two more recent albums of hers being touted as experimental and I had high hopes of being pleasantly surprised but I just don't hear it. This sounds very much like other pop music of the past 20 years or so. Granted, she herself has informed that sound for at least 3/4 of that time, but it is a sound that I generally dislike and that occasionally makes me cringe. The guest artists only seem to make it worse. I really tried to stay open minded and give this one a chance, but in the end it's just not for me. I'll write this off to me getting older and becoming a curmudgeon. Sorry TSwift fans.

I...can't. I just can't. I don't even care if it's 'incredible'. I just...nope. I won't give a 1-star because that's mean but 2 for simply existing seems fair.

Very unremarkable.

My wife listens to this while she’s driving all the time and I absolutely hate to admit I like the song about murder. 2/5

The best from this album IMO: - Willow - No Body, No Crime This album didn't catch my attention. I can recognize she has talent but her music just isn't for me. 2.0/5

I don't think such new albums should be on these lists. That being said, this was a very enjoyable album and I'd like to hear more of it. 2/5.

Who put this here

blaaaaaaaaahnd

Never again

#396/1001. I tried to avoid listening to it. Finally I gave it a chance and wasn't disappointed - my initial fears were right. This is overproduced, overrated, underwhelming, uninteresting, overhyped, boring, too long, too safe, music. I have no idea why this would be the best music or artist or album in the world. I don't get it. I don't get her, and it is not the same as "not getting her music" since there is not really much to get.

Sad white girl music but I do not like the voice. I did not enjoy this

dici che sono critico e poi mi proponi taylor swift?

Boring monotone pop songs. Have a bunch of friends who love this album, but I just don’t get it.

Please put an end to this suffering. I came here to discover new music but instead I got 2020s taylor swift?? ALL songs were downright horrible. People say they are mid but they have obviously bad music taste. I couldn't even get past three songs even though I am comfortably able to FUCKING LISTEN TO EARRAPE FOR AN HOUR but not this shit. I don't know why swifties even exist. They are fucking NPCs like this music. 0/5 stars. never going to listen to ts again in my life. I swear if I get another taylor swift album I'm leaving this website

What!? This should be removed from the list, without a doubt. I instantly heard the influence of Lana del Ray from some 10 years previous. Why isn't that album on the list? Bland, uninteresting, and I'm no way influential.

Unless you care about some random white girl's teenage years, this album is extremely boring and way too long

I do not care for this artist due to their capitalistic exploits of their music, and suppression of other artists. Gross. Music would be a nice instrumental, however the lyrics focused on nostalgic romanticized self-focused narriative of lost love. Expectations of interpersonal relationships like they're side characters to her wants and there to fulfill personal narriatives; repetitive lyrics that provide little depth.

I now choose myself #selflove #wine #friday

Bad album. Boring album. Mid as fuck. Dull lyrics. Dull instrumentals. Uninspiring.

Seriously out of all the great pop albums released in the last decade, this is what we get on the list? It’s boring, uninventive, low energy slop pop Fav song: No Body, No Crime because she shouted out Olive Garden and I took my beautiful girlfriend there once and the lasagna was pretty good

rather kill myself

5/9 Really? I'd honestly rather listen to the Brittany Spears album that was chosen for me the other day. At least that album gave me nostalgia for the late 90s. This album is just more sappy woe is me BS from Taylor.

Usually, there is at least one TS song that I start to nod my head along to (regardless of lyrics). This album did not do it for me. She's perfected the genre for her demographic: straight, white women.

I know I'm likely in a minority considering her billionaire status - but I cannot get a handle on why people listen to Swift. Her songwriting is boring, at best, and repetitive at normal. Add to it the wannabe-normal-person whining about COVID lockdowns, while knowing she was still living it up in her mansion without any *real* care in the world, it's just so tone-deaf that she should be ashamed to have released this, and anyone listening to it without the 'oh, woe-is-me Taylor, I'm so sorry you had to suffer while the rest of us were watching the world be destroyed. Glad you got a good jersey out of the alignment with MAGA, bitch' is pathetic and worthless too.

I refuse to listen to this

Monothematic, repetitive, bland. Awful.

I know that I am not the target demographic for TSwift’s music and it show I’m just how long I was able to listen to the album. I got really bored after the first 3-4 songs and I moved on with my day.

Using one of my few vetos on Taylor Swift: an artist I am simply never going to like.

insincere, bland, formulaic

Best part of this album is when it ended.
