Reviews (page 7 of 13)
An iconic album. It's not my absolute favorite, but it's hard to give this album anything less than 4 stars.
Very goog
Very nice listening, could work to Bob for hours. Glad I'm doing this project and got to learn a bit about him too.
I always get a bit lost with Bob Marley and it does start to blend into one a bit for me. But I’ll certainly come back to this one again.
3.8
Excellent album. Bob Marleys voice is really soothing, and the album makes it feel like everything is good in the world for a while. Many fond memories associated with this album.
Not much to say beyond this being Bob Marley’s Magnum Opus. Excellent record!
Very chilled. Like it
lowkey this was fucking good. what the hell bob. never knew you were cool like that. you should think he smoked the doobie
Album bom gosto do bob marley
Love 🌈
It’s rare that I hear much of Bob Marley past the hits, which this album has quite a few of. It was great to listen to a full album where all the songs are just as good. Bob Marley has such a great voice, warm and soothing, and combined with the steady hypnotic rhythm and beats, it makes you feel like all is okay with the world even though he’s singing about some pretty heavy stuff. He sounds hopeful and uplifting and wants you to feel the same.
A pretty great album. I think Bob Marley gets overshadowed by his legacy and image, but there is a reason for that. The band is really tight, and the songs are great.
So good. Was great to hear all the songs not on Legend
Great listen even without the hits
My first full Bob Marley album, was as expected. Good vibes
Thought about giving this a five, even though I didn't love it. Packed with quality! Most impressively, its not cringe. How's he managed that?
Low 4 Great to have on and some classics here. Some of the album tracks didn't stand out.
Highlights: Exodus, Three Little Birds
This is a good album. I enjoy a lot of Bob Marley’s songs and have listened to this album in full before. It’s good all the way through, but I’m partial to the tracks on the second half. 4/5
Perfect album for a sunny day in H-Town!!
Compared to Catch a Fire, the lyrics on the first side were so much more explicitly mainstream Christian rather than Rasta that I had to look up Bob Marley's religious timeline - this album was recorded between the death of Haile Selassie and Marley's Baptism into Ethiopian Orthodoxy. The second side is much more accessible - every single one was a pop hit at one point or another. The topics aren't as heavy, moving away from physical and spiritual emancipation and Jah and towards more universalist discussions of community, love and acceptance. But that doesn't make it any more frivolous; it shows an awareness that he was an ambassador for his culture, even though he wasn't fully appreciated by it at the time. A huge part of Marley's legacy is that he was able to be many things to many men - this record is a fantastic example of that.
Culturally relevant. Raggae just isn't for me.
1) Reading about the history of SKA on Wikipedia is such a trip. It’s hilarious to me that this niche Jamaican music culture eventually evolved to give us a suite of comically unserious (yet immaculately good-mood) bands like Reel Big Fish, Less than Jake, and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Sublime, in their hits, is the one band I can see with a spiritual connection to the first wave of SKA. 2) The weed branding for Bob Marley is bad for the music in my opinion. The music is good and can totally stand out on its own, but it’s too often associated with stoners. And thinking about weed when listening completely changes my perception of the music. I picture myself being fried off the ganja and stuck in a chair while the meandering loops of the baselines repeatedly walk around in my head and I get a little nauseous. But then again, remembering that it’s a religious ritual with the Rastafarianism for Bob makes me appreciate it, even though I don’t like the trip it gives my mind. 3) This Moroccan guy at the deli I worked with thought Bob was saying “Benjamin” in “Been Jamming”. Always was geek when he sung along. 4) I haven’t liked the other reggae that this list gave us, but both Bob Marley albums I’ve had so far have hit. Good job Bob
4/5
Second reggae album I ever listened to (before this list I mean), and it’s still great. Some all time songs on here even if you hate reggae, show me the hateful loser who dislikes Three Little Birds
Not the greatest fan of reggae but even I can see the greatness of this. It’s just a great chill album. Three little birds is my favourite track and the only one I knew before this. It’s such a great tune. This album is by far my favourite raggae album I’ve listened to. The whole album is strong and well worth a listen. For me, it falls just shy of a 5 star. Mainly due to not being a musical style I enjoy too much. Very strong 4 though.
A great album. I really enjoyed listening to this one.
I had never listened to a full Bob Marley album before this one, but I knew the impact this album had on the greater music landscape. The hits on this album are huge, but beyond them are some fantastic songs. If you want to try to get someone into reggae, this is album you tell them to start with. It was also the perfect album to pull on a Monday morning.
It is really very good. 4.
So passé. Why are we still idolizing people like him?
I like the heaviness of this album. It's the one where Bob meets the gravity which is placed upon him. But also, I really like the vocoder/talkbox touch in the one of those endless repeats of "Movement of Jah People", which I've never heard before despite having been a white guy who once lived in a college dorm.
Side one of Exodus is incredibly strong. “Natural Mystic” is just lovely, “Guiltiness” is a terrific song with a rich chord progression on the chorus, and “The Heathen” arrives like marching orders, with a killer keyboard accompaniment. The title track is made more poignant by knowing Marley himself was in exodus in London, following a failed attempt on his life. The second side is still good but lacks the fire and conviction of the first, offering more of a lighthearted feeling, with poppier songs that lack comparable heft.
As someone who had only been acquainted with Mr. Marley's greatest hits albums, this lil' trip through portions of his discography has been freaking excellent, rewarding, illuminating, a real joy.
I was too quick to write off this era of Marley's work because of secondary associations due to how the music was being used in my childhood. Honestly that's a problem with a lot of the music I've listened to in this project. But here it's particularly unfair.
The fact that liking Bob Marley is kinda a cliche in the US just shows how good the record is.
I think this my third Bob Marley album and each new one I get I enjoy him more and more. The vibes of this album were just immaculate. I feel as though Bob Marley himself must’ve invented the concept of immaculate vibes.
25/09/2025 I don't like Bob Marley's music and I don't like reggae, but this was actually an okay listen. Were it not for the more famous songs, this would have been a very boring album. Spotify listeners: 24.4 million
Day 74 First listen- Gorgeous record, was hooked throughout! I can see myself coming back to this again and again! (4/5)
The first few songs including the title song of the album were okay but forgettable but the back half of the album has all the greats you were all the time. Just a super chill album.
I’m not that big a reggae fan because I’m not a fun person. The music is catchy and all, and there are a bunch of hits on this album, but I still didn’t find myself getting really jazzed about the music. Still, it’s an inspiring, feel good album that flows effortlessly in its message of peace and love in overcoming conflict. For that, it gets a 4/5.
Kinda crazy this isn't the greatest hits album. It's Bob Marley, the best to ever do this, what else can you say. If you don't like raggae music then this isn't for you, if you do, well, it's the foundation and maybe the best version of the whole genre.
Reggae is not my thing but if you were going to listen to it, I suppose this is the one to listen to. I'll give this a 3 as to my enjoyment with an extra star for being Bob Marley. Check your toes for melanoma!
Need a beach and a fruity drink for reggae. Reminds me of my friend Essort from Jamaica. So much of Marley's music was made as protest and my white self can only imagine the struggles referenced in his music. But while he was protesting he was procreating (8 women FFS) so I am emotionally perplexed how to react to the man, but I do appreciate the music. But melanoma. what a way to go. Listened before? N Saved tracks? Y Favorite tracks? So Much Things To Say, Jamming, Waiting in Vain, Three Little Birds ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Liked it a lot. Saved several tracks.
Another really strong effort from Marley. Much like the last album of his from these recommendations, the songs were built around solid rhythms that carried the song along. I felt like there was more diversity in the songs this time, though; I didn't get as lost in the mix as I had on Catch A Fire. A lot of it felt funkier than I was expecting it to be, which was a positive for me. Just solid grooves everywhere. I was already familiar with a number of songs from this one, plus there were some on there I liked a lot on my first listen here. So Much Things to Say, Exodus, and Waiting in Vain were new to me, but I was fan by the time they ended. Others, like Jamming/Three Little Birds/One Love, were songs I already knew fairly well. I wouldn't say that I loved any of those songs before but I liked them well enough. I was interesting to hear them in their album context on this listen. Even the songs I didn't like as much were still pretty good. My main negatives were more due to the genre and style than real criticisms of the album. I still don't love reggae, though I can listen to it here and there. I do wish the instrumentation was a bit more involved at times or there were more upbeat moments, but I felt like that wasn't that big of an issue on this album. There was much more good than bad here. I liked it and found it to be a fun listen. Overall: 3.9/5
Good stuff
Good vibes. Jammin’ makes me miss my wife because we used to sing that together before we separated.
Awesome album full of spirituality, longing, hope and love. The production is perfect and the whole thing just sort of flows as you listen.
Classic album
Pretty fun listen. Even though neither song stand out for me, it gives such a smooth listen that makes me feel relaxed.
Solid album. Not my favourite Bob Marley album but he was very consistent, and Exodus is perhaps the ideal “catch all” or first listen Bob album. Some of the lesser known songs on here overshadow the more popular tracks for me, but there’s no arguing the overall quality of the album.
I enjoyed it.
Is this THE Bob Marley album? I don't know many songs, but became very familiar with reggae as a uni student living with a bunch of stoners. As a result, immediately transported back to a grotty house in Plymouth which isn't a listening experience I often want. However, I didn't not enjoy listening. I was just able to let it play while I got on with work and it was pleasant. Favourite track was "Turn Your Lights Down". Good ending, feel good album. On listen, more musically interesting than I was expecting. 3.5, but will round up to a 4.
This is good, not great. I’m not sure there is a Bob Marley album that is completely perfect. This is close, don’t get me wrong. I love me some reggae , there’s no denying that. But take Turn You Lights…. For example. The upbeat version with Lauryn Hill is much better. Swap that song with this album song. That’s a difference maker. Some other tracks just don’t move a person, like The Heathen or even Guiltiness. Anywho. This is still good and if I could give a half star rating it would be a 4.5. Choice cut: Three Little Birds
Great chill vibes
Loved it....again.
Haven't listened to a Wailers album in full in a long time - baggage attached to the band that doesn't have to do anything with the band itself. Finding myself regretting that I have to listen to these albums digitally (don't have all of them on vinyl, and my turntable is in storage for a while) - uncommon and delicious for an album to flow track to track in this way. Obviously very groove-able, a genre former and informer.
Most reggae is inoffensive at best but this was very enjoyable. Lots of recognizable songs on here
This sounds great. Everything about it.
Excelent album
Best so far!
The music is way louder than the vocals. Very easygoing and relaxing. Maybe not the best music to listen to driving home from school when you’re very tired but don’t ask me. I’m now very excited to watch the Winter Olympics iykyk 7.5/10
Bob Marley may have actually invented vibes? Idk but seems like I heard that somewhere. I hate the sand but this makes me want to live on a beach somewhere.
Great vibes, back half of album had some HITS. Easy listening music. Made me want to be on an island somewhere.
Groovy, good vibes all around. A very fitting Friday record. I was surprised at the musical depth throughout the tracks. Noodling guitars, rich woodwinds, bright brass, growling bass over simple, happy-go-lucky grooves. If “_ skank _ skank” upbeats is not your thing, this might be a long record. But, besides the repetitive reggae off-beat twang, there is so much to love. Hypnotic basslines throughout, atmospheric guitars on “The Heathen,” driving percussion and horn punctuations on “Exodus,” intimate stripped-down arrangement in “Turn Your Lights Down Low,” optimism in musical form on “Three Little Birds.” And “Jamming” is a B.O.P. What a track. Fun, playful, celebratory. Interplay with Marley and the background vocals exudes happiness and energy. What a response to an assassination attempt 8-8.5 Standouts: (Basically the whole thing) Natural Mystic Guiltiness The Heathen Jamming Turn Your Lights Down Low Three Little Birds One Love/People Get Ready
So reggae is not a genre I am really interested in at all. So when I say that this album is really good I mean it. We used to sing three little birds in primary school assembly and I can never get sick of it.
I am not a huge fan of reggae; I find the genre a bit claustrophobic musically. But if there is one reggae album I can unreservedly tip my hat to, this is the one. Even within the narrow confines of the form, this is a strong collection of songs with stellar songwriting enhancing the message Marley is trying to deliver. It’s not something I will listen to that often, but I acknowledge the strength and impact of this record.
I had honestly never listened to anything except Legend. This was cool.
Classic. Easy to listen to and be Jammin'!
Lyrically, melodically, and rhythmically tapping into a spiritual highness. Couple of classic songs, and the ones I didn’t know were pretty good. Some interesting little psychedelic guitar and wonky synth parts. Rhythm section on point. I’m not gonna pick this over the Legend comp, but it’s a solid reggae album that contributes a bunch of songs to it anyway.
Nice album, I knew and love several of these tracks so it was cool listing to them in the context of their album. 3.75/5
Wonderful album. Religious songs on Side 1 and love songs on Side 2. Bob's vocals are brilliant and the band smokes. Thoroughly enjoyable listening.
I mean, what can be said? So many classic songs, what most people automatically think of when they think of reggae.
I don’t really like reggae but there are some good songs here
I'm not a huge fan of reggae, but this album is pretty undeniably good.
Jammin!
Yes !!
Classic. An album I am very familiar wit...
It’s fun! No complaints!
Love some Bob Marley! Went through a period where we bought anything that came out by them. Funny that other reggae music makers didn't quite do the same for us. Bob Marley just had it.
Jah mon. Fucking smoke de twig mon, respeck
I liked this album. Long time favorites are Jammin and One Love. I would recommend the album to others.
Groovy, enjoyed it more than I expected, and was pleasantly surprised a new (to me) song made the playlist over the more famous tracks.
It’s impossible to be sad when bob marley spitting mad bars out there
This albums moves along nicely, if not spectacularly, through most of its tracks. Then we get to those final two!
I’m not generally a reggae fan but there’s always classics in the genre and this is excellent. Half the album is well known hits so it feels impossible to have a bad time here. Waiting in Vain has always been a favourite of mine but there are some great album tracks like Natural Mystic and the 7 min epic title track. Essential listening.
easy listening, nice. 3.5 to soft 4.
Still do good!
Had this earlier this year on my other album club and gave it a 4, see no reason to change that decision
This was a cracking listen throughout even before the last 2 absolute classics
Really good Best bob marley album on the list Because every little song, is at least okay
Not usually a reggae fan but I've always liked 'Jamming' since I heard it in S08E12 of The Simpsons so I'll give it an extra point for nostalgia
no. 3, this is exactly what i wanted from this project. Unique and important.
Tunes really
Album No. 0006 on my list. I‘ve known half of the Songs before. Not because I’m much into Reggae, but because Bob Marley is such an outstandingly famous artist. I liked every song on the album. I’m really not a Reggae expert, but to me, this is just Reggae perfection. Cool lyrics, cool music, cool vibe. Still not too much into the genre, but it seems to me this is as good as it gets. 4/5 stars!
Takes a little while to get going but has several moments of greatness.
The first half of this record feels like reggae boilerplate. The second half cooks.
top 3: - jamming - turn your lights down low - natural mystic special mention: - waiting in vain - guiltiness
The album that surely changed how American college kids listened to new music outside their comfort zones definitely belongs on this list. Mon. 4.5/5
4.20 out of 5. Not the first real album I've heard from him but so far the best (not including Legend) Good album to kick your feet up to.
it's all the songs you know from Bob Marley. Finished the album effortlessly.
A free-flowing, jam of an album. Not really a bad track here, as we get a mix of political and sensual tunes. Each are equally funky and laid-back, which is the magic of reggae and especially Bob Marley's influence on the genre. On top of that, some the group's most recognizable hits ("Jamming, "Three Little Birds", "One Love/People Get Ready") reside here too.
eh
A timeless classic that still vibes beautifully after all these years. The melodies and rhythms have aged like fine wine, making it a joy to listen to. Bob Marley’s spirit shines through every track, reminding us why he’s a legend.
All time classic but not my absolute favorite Marley album, 9/10
Aunque casi.
Fine
Fun! Let's review an album I've listened regularly for decades. It's been some time since I tracked the whole thing, however. Hello, old friend!
3.75 Yeah that’s definitely Bob Marley
Bob's always great. The hits (Exodus, Jamming, Waiting in Vain, Three Little Birds) are hits for a reason. The other songs are all enjoyable too. What more needs to be said? 8.5/10 (4.25/5)
I liked this other than the other bob marley album I had. Obviously it had some of his iconic songs. I think I also liked the remastered version I listened to because I could clearly hear him singing and hear the instruments.
Maybe the best reggae album - or maybe tied with Burnin’, but definitely an excellent example of the genre and pretty amazing that it never gets boring (like so much other reggae).
Waiting in vain c’est chilly slapper
Dis ya tune wicked mi bredda! Mi love it bad bad—di riddim sweet mi soul!
Cool
I Like Jamming and One Love enough to give this a 4 at least without hesitation. I think I can't connect with the genre enough to give it a 5, but still a very good album.
Powerful, thought-provoking but also full of joy.
Uplifting.
Everything is going to be alright!
Good album, Bob Marley is a legend
Apparently I like reggae, I didn't know that. Fantastic album.
Exodus, Jamming, 3 Little Birds
Few artists have enjoyed such popularity in the West, while managing to pour so much of their belief systems - be they religious, political, or emotional - into their music, and for that Marley must be admired. You don't have to compromise, you just have to be really good at what you do, and eventually people will catch on. With a string of memorable hits it is easy to see why this is regarded as one of his finest records, and The Wailers are in fine form here. While I am fond of reggae, it is just a little too laid back, and a little too repetitive for me to give this five stars, but it is not far off.
Really enjoyable - lots to love.
Chill albums
Bob Marley and the Wailers are a mood, and one that they can get you into just by listening. Some really really great songs on this album surrounded by some good songs. Listened to this before, will listen to this again in the future.
First three songs sounded very similar, fourth track “The Heathen” has some interesting sounds. Title track is a nice change of pace while still keeping the consistent sound. Jamming is of course a classic and is an album highlight. The rest of the album was great and I was finally able to cross off a bucket list album.
Good songs, a lot of fun. Very cute also.
Five best-known hits ("Exodus", "Jamming", "Waiting In Vain", "Three Little Birds" and "One Love/People Get Ready") out of the ten tracks make it a four stars rating for me although it's not my preferred genre.
Good reggae, mon.
Great album, classic. Reminds me of Mom busting me smoking pot in high school, LOL
very gorjus
Political, chill, and sexy
Nice
Some classics on here. Good fun, a little repetitive at times but overall an enjoyable listen. Fav song: One Love / People Get Ready - but of the songs I wasn't really familiar with before my fav was Exodus Least fav: Natural Mystic
Very fun album with some big hits, some songs were a bit repetitive for me. Favourite song: Three Little Birds Least: Natural Mystics
We jammin
I mean what do you expect
there's so much depth to this album, so many sounds and instruments at the same time. I could listen to this over and over. I would usually find some of the songs saccharine, don't know if its the nostalgia, but I have no problems, great album
Mellow reggae - very chill and enjoyable. Includes the iconic "Jamming" and "One Love."
I’ll give it a solid 4. Enjoyed the variety of songs. I think this is his best album.
Okay I can appreciate the great lyrical writing that Bob Marley possessed and exhibited on this album. It is fantastic and remarkable. However, reggae has never (and probably never will) done if for me. It’s just the same beat and refrain for the entire song. I like a little more variety in my songs. Just not my preferred genre. This was a very solid album and if you gave this a 5 I would not argue.
first few tracks are little weaker (almost boring), then it picks up with Exodus. rest of the album is a great listen. fantastic vibe & songwriting.
I love this album, especially the less sugary first side. The segue between the first few songs is sooo good
Classic
Reggae, upbeat, volvería a escuchar, 7/10
tuff ass reggae record
I loved Bob Marley as a kid, it was good to listen to this one after a while - I used to have a dub of the cassette I played in my walkman (Waalkmaaan maaan). Its the most accessible of Reggaes and for good reason. Gem was Waiting In Vain
My second Marley/Wailers record confirms that the albums are better than the hits. Massive bass is the star of the rich production. Favourite tracks: Natural Mystic, Exodus, Waiting in Vain
Bob Malrley! Hard to beat that
record so lit, got me contemplating forgiveness for those who've wronged me and the possibility of a brighter future
Hrpa klasika
I think the album really kicks into gear during the song "Guiltiness" and pretty much rides the strong waves of Reggae vibes which are difficult to fault and shake during a listen. Personally, Reggae seems to be genre that has managed to create a recipe of music that is difficult to dislike with many songs having the potential to impact the listener in different magnitudes. As such, this album will get a 4/5 since the entire listen-through for the large part was enjoyable and could easily be repeated.
Album was released in two sides and the first side is distinctly weaker. First four tracks are ok but forgettable. Album really picks up with Exodus. The songs on side two are some of Bobs greatest hits. 3.5/5. Raising to a 4.
I pretty much had any love for reggae knocked out of me when I used to share a student house with someone who listened to it incessantly. So when I saw Exodus pop up this morning I let out an audible groan. But it has surprised me. Not only because it has so many hits on it. No, the surprise is that the tracks I am not familiar with are so good too.
A terrific album, although not my all-time favourite by Marley (that would be Uprising). Beautiful songs, a combination of political, religious, and spiritual vibes. Amazing, and spawned hit singles like ‘Three Little Birds’.
the best soundtrack for touching some imaginary grass and enjoying some imaginary sunshiiine while its raining outside 4/5
Great album. Clean production, catchy tunes, but some great lyricism too. Largely inspired by Marley’s Rastafarian religion, encouraging peaceful protests and assurance that good will eventually triumph. There are definitely less serious points in the album (see: Turn Your Lights Down Low, a decent love song, but the subject matter there is a lot lighter than most of the album) but it’s pretty refreshing to hear an album tackle such serious subject matter while being so optimistic. Sure, there’s a place for just anger in the world, but there’s a place for hope too.
Great album. Good introduction to bob marley. You just got to love this album.
Nearly flawless reggae album. I think I like the deeper cuts more than the bigger hits.
Good.
what a treat to start the week. i can say I probably haven't sat down and listened to a full Bob Marley album, unless it was a 'Greatest Hits' or something. but, just what an absolute treat. its such easy listening, such simple and wholesome lyrics, and a vibe that can really life you up. even with not being the biggest Bob Marley listener, this album had some serious bangers on it, with most of them on the back half of the record. three little birds, jamming, waiting in vain, and one love... all within the span of a few tracks is just amazing. such a killer album.
Oh sweet, Reynolds just won that soccer game. I think I’ve mentioned my old Mazda that would only play factory produced cds and didn’t have a radio antenna, but if I haven’t, that limited my listening options on my drives for a few years. One of the cds I had was Bob Marley and The Wailers’ greatest hits and it includes most of the second half of this album. Waiting in Vain will always remind me of driving with the windows down through the mountains on that first warm spring day while I was living in Boone. Easy four stars.
I always go into reggae albums with a feeling that I'll listen to the same thing for 45 minutes, but Bob Marley is a legend for a reason. This is one of the best reggae albums I've ever listened to. However, there are a few filler tracks, but the songsthat are good are some of Marley's greatest. This is a 4/5 for me. A great listen
Best i klassen.
A low 4. Loads of good but lots also passes me by and I know this album.
A very easy going listen. I'm not into reggae really, and Bob Marley may very well be the only reggae artist I'll ever have listened to in my life. But I'm glad I gave it a full listen.
Really good, some classics in there including Jammin
Album art:1
i’ve never really listened to bob marley before this but i like it 😎
I know there are a bunch of religious and socio-political contextual references that I don’t really understand but even without this knowledge, I can tell this is a powerful record that sounds and feels good
Good background vibes, easy listening
Three Little Birds is quite a nice one
reggae is great when it's not made by Sting
Highlight Song/s: The Heathen, Waiting In Vain and Three Little Birds This is my first experience with Reggae apart from listening to Jamaican radio stations in Grand Theft Auto IV and San Andreas (which I really liked.) The backstory of this album is really interesting, where Bob Marley relocated to London after nearly getting assassinated and made the appropriately named album 'Exodus'. The lyrics on the album are amazing (and sweet in the second half.)
I thought I was really over the songs on this album. I almost always skip them when they come on BUT in album context, they had fresh breath. The couple I didn’t know were really good too. Great album.
Such a good album. So many bangers on here. Jamming, Exodus, Three Little Birds, One Love / People Get Ready, Waiting In Vain... yeah, this one is solid. 3.75/5 = 4 stars.
A classic album with classic songs.
Listened to this whole album last month actually. This is great music for anything. Working from home, house chores, driving, or just taking an edible and playing video games, lol. The rhythm just flows over and around you. I don't think I have ever been in a bad mood with Bob Marley on.
Excellent quand on est dans le mood. La bass nous rend bien relax. Plusieurs classiques en plus! Highlight: waiting in vain
Better than i expected
Jotenki tähän ulkolämpötilaan sopii tämä renkutus paremmin. Myös tutumpi ku edellinen wailers. Taitaa olla äijän paras kokonaisuus
Hmm... It ain't bad, I actually like it, but reggae is always so similar... Songs kinda blend, chorus and verse blend and then it fades out... I liked it, but it's not my type of music... Still, some classics on here...
Marley is a good vibe, and this album is more of the Marley I'm familiar with. 4* Highlights: jammin, one love, three little birds
I was very happy to see this pop up today. I've only listed to his songs on their own or as part of a playlist. Not as an album. So many familiar hits. Perfect length as well. Ending before it starts to get too repetitive. Fav tracks: Exodus, Jamming, Three Little Birds Least fav tracks: Turn Your Lights Down Low
Great. All-time classic.
Really enjoyed this, some serious tunes on here
8/10 Highlights Three Little Birds One Love Punky Reggae Party
I dont usually like reggae as a genre its just way too slow and relaxed for me. But the songwriting on this album is really good and Bob has a really good ability for writing a hook. I do also like the socio-politcal commentary in the lyrics sounds very genuine. 8/10 Favourite: Jamming Least Favourite: Guiltiness
Excuse I, while jam out to this very chill album! I’ve never considered myself a reggae fan, but the vibe here is simply undeniable. These songs hit so hard - I especially admire the way each track flows seamlessly into the next, making the whole affair feel like one big punky reggae party. And to finish with the ‘one two’ punch of Three Little Birds and One Love? Just gorgeous. This whole record satisfies a very niche itch I never knew I had. I know I’ll be back.
A perfect encapsulation of Bob Marley's talent. This album gets stronger as it goes on, with "One Love" being the perfect ending.
Fun vibes
Loved listening to it. Guiltiness is my favorite on the album.
Favorite track: Exodus other picks: turning your lights down low, jamming, waiting in vain
When I think of reggae this is exactly what I imagine. RIP Bob Marley. Favorites: Waiting in Vain, Three Little Birds
Hard to ignore an album with so many classics on it. What surprised me about the album as a whole was how full the sound was while still giving space as not to overwhelm the listener or bury some of the intricacies of the music. Just wish there was little more... Bite to a song or two to really round out the album.
Vapunpäivään erityisen sopivat puistojammailut
There's a reason he's so beloved. Just great vibes.
Drugi Marley w ciągu dwóch tygodni. Na szczęście ten jest już lepszy. Pełen radości. Słońca. Wolności. Takie powinno być reggae. 7.5/10
The epitome of Reggae. There is no better album even if you aren’t a reggae fan (which I am not). The influence is undeniable.
Not my favorite Marley and the Wailers material by far, but it does contain a lot of very well known and "Classic" tunes. Hard for me to separate this from the rich. white, pseudo-hippies I went to high school and college with, but it undeniably is some really strong roots reggae.
A classic that has been overplayed, but still rings true after all these years.
I lucked out tied two days in a row of equality albums. Exodus is a great Marley album. I know "Legend is THE Bob Marley album, but this has other tunes that may not be the "hits" you know, but are really deep and rockin'. Enjoy! 521
three days late for this one lol
So freaking good!!!
what a vibe
First time listening to Exodus completely. Like many others I've heard the most famous songs off of this album and those are great and bring the album to greater heights. But the album doesn't have a single track I didn't like. There are songs that I added to my library and will continue to listen to but the album start to finish is cohesive and especially the writing seemed excellently thought out and put together. I don't listen to a ton of Marley and so maybe that's obvious but for me it was a surprise and a welcome one.
A good starting point for the new-to-reggae
Fantastic album
Didn't notice I was listening to it. Love a bit of Bob, should listen again.

Bob Marley Beach Ocean Regae vibes
Had a chill time listening to this during a fairly stressful afternoon... 4 stars..
Never been much of a Marley fan but this was very enjoyable and nice!! Also i knew so many tracks off this bad boy!
Perfect for a chill day of chores. Dave track: Natural Mystic
Classic, lots of great tracks
Solid reggae album, and Bob Marley's presence in pop culture is undeniable.
I can't say I like or listen any reggae, but this is so laid back and enjoyable, it's difficult to dislike this. Exodus is filled with so many good moments this has me reconsidering my own exodus from the reggae genre, which really says something about how good this record is. You can't do much better that Marley & The Wailers at their height.
Definitely scores high on the vibes department, it's chill and relaxing to listen to. Carries a powerful message for the time it was recorded in, so I don't think that disassociating the context from the music here can make you truly appreciate it.
Good grooves, interesting guitar play, socially aware lyrics. It changes up the chords and progressions often enough to jeep the reggae formula fresh for the runtime. Quite good. The album cover seems to be made in paint, it has this strange artifacting on the letters. I recommend checking out the life of Bob Marley and his band, interesting character he was.
pretty great, undeniable tracks. felt like I was more familiar with the album cuts than I anticipated. excellent weed smoking music
Лучшая песня - Three Little Birds.
Really enjoyed this. Standouts for me were Exodus, Three Little Birds, and One Love . Didn't really listen to this when it came out and have never listened to the entire album so was nice to hear the lesser know tracks.
2nd best Bob Marley album, with a killer 2nd side! 4.5
Great
Everytime I listen to Bob Marley I love it, I don't know why I haven't become a big fan already
5 great singles from this album by a legend of reggae. I'm not going to bother reviewing it, who am I to comment? 4/5.
This album is how I discovered I do like reggae.
I always knew Bob Marley was chill and pleasant. I perhaps didn't account for just how chill and pleasant he truly is.
Enjoyed it. I might even revisit it sometime.
it's medicinal. without it I could go, uh, more blind. shut up guys I love this song
Love the one's that don't mention religion
I really liked the title track on re-listening - I think it's greater length vs. The other songs gave it an almost Fela-like groove. The rest didn't really move me in the same way, but was above average so handing out 4* here..
More listenable than expected.
A few of the songs are all-time classics. There was a lot more religious imagery than I remembered in this throughout.
I really like the message. And Bob was revolutionary and truly a talented force. But the music wasn't my favorite.
Added To Library: TRUE I've never actually listened to Exodus in album format before, but I've heard a number of the songs. The music is largely chill. Something to put on while lounging or relaxing.Exodus, Three Little Birds and Jammin are timeless classics now. It also seems like some of the songs appear on Legends so they are otherwise familiar that way too.
Not too much to say, just great in all areas, probably just a bit batter than the other one from a while ago. Probably said this before but I really like the female backing singers. Favourite songs: Natural mystic, the heathen, jamming (both versions), waiting in vain, punky reggae party. Overall around 8/10
Listened to this a few times, kept growing on me!
Favorite Track: Three Little Birds
not his best album
Listened Before? N I've never heard most of this but what a solid album from beginning to end! I'm sure it's considered a classic in the genre. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Three Little Birds
I'm so shocked that I enjoyed this both lyrically and sonically that i'm gonna go crazy and say 4.5 / 5, but then go less crazy and round down to 4.
There are a few songs here that I get and understand why they get broader play. But there's a good number (dare I say most) that are forgettable. However, I chalk it up to the fact that this is part of a larger cultural project that I am not part of and am not the target audience for. So with that in mind, I'll give this the benefit of the doubt and round my 3.5 up to a 4.
slay
Copper-bottomed quality. My palate has been a bit tainted on Bob Marley by over-playing his greatest hits when I was a youngster. But this is just so good.
Had some classics and some new ones, overall enjoyed the mellow tone. Give it a 4 rather than 3, bc why not.
Niesamowite. Puściłem sobie raz i byłem mega zaskoczony. "Three Little Birds" i "Jamming" to moi ulubieńcy z tej płyty, ale naprawdę każdy utwór mi siedział. Niesamowite, jestem w szoku.
Everything you want a reggae album to be. Exactly what you think of, when you think of Bob Marley. A fun, solid listen.
Solid performances and enjoyed it the whole way through 4*
The B-side is flawless and the A-side is rather good. By far the best Bob Marley-album on the list
Not much of a reggae guy, but I enjoyed this album. Can see why Bob Marley stands out as a great in the genre. 4⭐️
the last reggae album I listened to for this challenge was Signing Off by UB40. I remember remarking that I wasn't sure if I disliked the genre, or if I just hadn't spent enough time with the right reggae artists and albums. egg on my face: it's the latter. whereas Sounding Off felt interminable—it's an LP plus an EP running over an hour, and every song is roughly the same tempo—Exodus is a well-balanced package that never wears out its welcome. for the most part, it's an easy, breezy experience, especially the B-side which is mostly about making love and having fun. are you so heartless that you're not moved by the chorus of "Three Little Birds"? the A-side turns towards religion and politics, and the music feels much more serious as a result; knowing this album was conceptualized in the wake of Bob Marley fleeing Jamaica after an attempt on his life definitely raises the stakes of the title track, with its repeated shouts of "move!" but, no matter the tone, everything always feels funky and relaxed. great instrumental and vocal backing from the Wailers + free-wheeling performances from Marley = a great time. decent 8/10.
Really enjoyed this it had me dancing round my kitchen like crazy so many banging tunes
The best Bib Marley songs on one album!
The sun has come out and Bob Marley is playing. Summer has arrived in March. As someone who isn't a huge fan of raggae, I still think this album is great.
Awesome reggae classic
Classic album. Catchy songs. Not a lot there but the vibes. And the vibes are good. Perfect album to get my mind on warner weather.
This album has been adulterated by that terrible biopic and the horrid remixes that play on the radio subscription service at my work. But overall a gem of very powerful and moving yet comforting tunes
8/10 This was way better than I expected. Easily the best reggae I’ve heard. Recognised loads of it. Vibes are impeccable, vocals great, love the backing singers. Best: Three Little Birds
Familiar with Bob & The Wailers from the late 70s / early 80’s as a few songs from the B Side got some radio play; One Love, Waiting In Vain, and Three Little Birds. Marley put reggae on the (US) map and this is the album that brought it mainstream. (3.8*s) Clapton helped a few years earlier…
This album is essential and deserves to be on the list. People are more familiar with these songs from Legend and probably don't realize that most of them actually come from Exodus, his TENTH album. Every song is great, no skips, gets a ton of play at 30342. Easy 3.9 for Bob.
What an entry by Bob. Even if the 10+ minutes are relatively pedestrian by Marley standards they are still solid reggae songs that firmly outline their sound. From the title track through the end of the album Exodus really fires on all cylinders though. Side B is pretty much a greatest hits album and includes a couple of Marley's essential songs. Marley has always been a greatest hits artist in my life with nearly all play from the Legend compilation. Exodus feels like a pretty big slice of that pie so it deserves its marks. 3.64 stars
I took a second listen since Reggae is not a style that resonates with me and it really made a difference. I was able to appreciate the social messages throughout the album, even if the rhythm was tedious, the songcraft is good. The religious aspects took me out at times, but he's really using these examples of peace and cooperation throughout the ages--people being kind to people as opposed to trying to convert people. A 3.5 for me, but bumping up.
Good old Bob. Like this better than Natty Dread or Catch a Fire. Would listen to a 20 minute remix of Jamming.
iets afwisselender dan de doorsnee reggae...
I'm not so into reggae, but that must be the greatest set of reggae songs I've ever heard. Such a soulful album . I wouldn't rate it as perfect, but close enough.
Dan - never listened to Marley before really, but enjoyed it. Some classic songs on the album that everyone's heard of.
Save me, Bob Marley, save me I don't have anything too insightful to say about the music since I know jack about reggae beyond it being relaxing but if going by the blurb on apple music about this, the message of this album really is hitting currently as things seem to get grimmer and grimmer huh
1. Jamming 2. Exodus 3. Turn your lights down low
Very good overall. Delightful mellow vibes throughout. There’s a few songs on here that people will still be listening to in 100 years and beyond. Mostly in dorm rooms.
Reggae is a genre that I’m still exploring a bit. I mean, this album is a classic for a reason, and the themes of overcoming adversity under a corrupt government somehow feel relatable. So very good stuff here. Generally I’ve responded more to the dubby echoey stuff but I really enjoyed this, of course.
Do all the songs on the album sound relatively the same? Yes. Does it work? 100%. Not a disliked song on the album. 3.5 Favorite Song: Natural Mystic Least Favorite: The Heathen maybe?
Not my favourite genre, I felt it all blurred into itself. However, I enjoyed some moments a lot! I love Three Little Birds, of course, and I was surprised by how funky it all gets sometimes. I gave it another listen and appreciated it a lot more, I enjoyed the production a lot and the way these songs make me feel. I feel like it's a 4, and would like to revist it!
mi tink dis wan bring di Chill Weed Vibes™ to a lazy day werkin fer da man. real easy to cruise wit trough the day
I think I would enjoy this album more if it were sung by a white British man who moaned like someone with a TBI.
Really enjoyed this. Some great songs and some others that I hadn't heard before but would listen to again.
So much goodness on one album. Really, on one side. He addressed conflict and violence and hate with positivity and love.
Was previously only familiar with his greatest hits — surprised how amanubshiw up on this album.
Quite possibly their best album
Timeless for a reason. You can never find it difficult to listen to Bob Marley; it almost is something you just drift through. It isn't my favourite type of music but the feeling and skill is undeniable and it makes total sense to be on the list.
There is something captivating about Bob Marley's voice and the music is hypnotic. Having a similar tempo throughout can feel repetitive on the surface, but each song is unique. It's a nice cohesive album, it just doesn't pop for me. If I spent more time with the album it would probably go up.
Buen disco de reggae.
Possible the most popular reggae album of all time? Amazing collection of hit singles (although in between there is some filler which lacks in quality, but this may be due to the unreachable tier of the hit tracks). Personally, I liked Catch A Fire much more as a whole project, this felt much more as a 'best of' kind of album. 4/5
