Reviews (page 2 of 7)
My dad bought this on release. I'm not sure why, I think he only played it once. I played it a lot, still play it occasionally. I absolutely love it. Favourite songs have changed over the years, from Gudbye T'Jane or Mama weer Crazee Now to Look At Last Night.
great album
I was surprised to see a Slade album on this list. I'd really only heard the Quiet Riot versions of their songs. I enjoyed this a lot. High quality good time rock and roll.
A rocking good time.
Enjoyed.
Hard rock setentero. Vinilo.
I'll be the first to admit the lyrics are a bit trite, but that sound of Noddy Holder's highly distinctive vocals, fuzzed up guitars and pounding drums, oh man that sound is freaking awesum. I wish there was a contemporary band with this sort of ballsy rock.
This album has a great amount of rock styles and variety. Every song was good and you can tell there’s a lot of talent on the roster. Solid listen.
Nothing but bangers all the way through. What a blast.
So much fun! And great fucking songs. 5 stars album. Great old-school Brit rock.
Once in a while the UK bias of this list pays off. I doubt this album would be here otherwise. Like most Americans my age, we first heard Slade on their song Run Runaway. It was only years later I found out two of Quiet Riots biggest hits were both Slade songs, so I had to look into them. I've only listened to their greatest hits and live albums, but I can say I'm a fan. This is my first time listening to a studio album. It's just good, fun, stripped down rock & roll at its finest. You can tell the band is having fun playing. I had fun listening to all 10 songs. Gudbuy T'Jane and Mama Weer All Crazee Now were the ones I knew best, so they were my favorites.
I usually get bored with some pure classic rock bands but I loved this entire thing. Will definitely be looking into their other stuff. Rating: 4.8
I like it
Hard rock setentero. Vinilo.
Man I love this band. How did I not know of them until this year? Crazy. They are the original party band. Catchy, straight-forward rock & or roll. Love it!
Som massa, vocal lembra o led mas bem rockzao alto astral
Heavy glam boogie stomp goodness
Fantastic rock album! So engaging, stands the test of time.
The British equivalent of AC/DC but yammier and funnier. Underrated musicianship too. That backline is deceptively funky and tight for what is glam rock fun. Brilliant.
feeling generous, but its definitely a strong 4
Wow. Never heard of these guys, but super into their energy and sound. Raucous and dirty. Listen loud!
Pretty dynamic, it reminds me of sounds from Queen, Elo, or Oingo Boingo. Probably a good album to listen to while driving. I listened to some other albums by Slade, and I absolutely loved them! Favs: Dontcha stop Moving in Stereo
Bluesy, ballsy, fun but not earth shattering
7/10
8/10 The sound of British working classes having fun. Guess it doesn't travel well, but hey, who cares. I love the guitar and the stomp.
Hot licks played sick, really fun and I enjoyed them speaking to me directly😃
A like Slade. They be having fun
I thought the album was fine, three stars, but my sixteen-month-old freaking loved it- he was twirling, bopping, bouncing, waving his arms. Man, he loved it. And that was adorable. Give it an extra star.
Fun 80s rock
Such good rock and roll
I’ve always had a soft spot for Slade. They’re a band that never seem to take themselves too seriously, and their combination of big riffs, catchy hooks and good-time rock and roll is always a lot of fun. Slayed? delivers exactly what I want from a Slade album. The album is energetic, loud, busy and hugely entertaining from start to finish. There’s a real sense of fun running through every track, and it’s packed with the kind of singalong choruses and stomping rhythms that made the band so popular. It’s not trying to be clever or groundbreaking; it’s simply a collection of great rock songs played with enthusiasm and confidence. My only minor gripe is the deliberately misspelled song titles. I know it's part of the band's identity and charm, but I've never been a huge fan of it. That said, it's a very small complaint on an album that is otherwise incredibly enjoyable. This is an easy album to put on, have fun with and revisit. If you're looking for serious, thought-provoking music, look elsewhere. If you want infectious glam rock packed with energy and personality, this delivers in spades. Favourite tracks: “Gudbuy T'Jane”, “My Life Is Natural” and “Mama Weer All Crazee Now” Least favourite tracks: Everything on the album is worth a listen Album artwork: Cool album cover
new band for me, def like the vibe right off the bat. classic rock vibe that definitely is very cohesive and is overall a great listen. my favorite kind of sound!
Honestly pretty sweet! Great loud guitars, wild singing.
Some sweet grooves. A very solid OG rock ‘n’ roll album..
A tight, fun little blast of glam rock — I listened to it and just felt happy the whole way through. Slayed? is pure good‑time energy, and I absolutely loved it.
My initial point of comparison on hearing this record was AC/DC. The vocals and the lyrics in particular are similar to them, but the music is as well, although not in all cases. Ironically, this record came out years before there were any AC/DC records and it sounds more like late 70's than early 70's AC/DC. There are some exceptions like the slow burning "Look at Last Nite' and "I won't let it happen again'. They also do a pretty good cover of Janis Joplin's Move Over. A great hard rock album with touches of low glam. I'm definitely going to listen to this again and will pick up a reasonably cheap copy of the album.
good fun
Sleezy and scuzzy. A link between ACDC and T Rex.
Im a sucker for this stuff 4 stars
Gustóme
Pretty good fun, shame about the spellingz!
The Whole World’s Goin’ Crazee // Look at Last Nite // Move Over // Gudbuy T’Jane // Mama Weer All Crazee Now // 4.5/5
Solid 70s rock album.
Vitsi miten hyvä rocklevy! Tätä kuunnellessa ei voi kuin tulla hyvälle tuulelle! Tulee tunnelmana mieleen viime viikkoinen Michael Monroen keikka. Tulee myös mieleen nämä esikuva-asiat rockhistoriasta: olikos Slade jo ennen AC/DC:tä ja Hanoi Rocksia? No, ei sillä ole mitään väliä! Loistava lätty! 4/5
“We have led zeppelin at home”. They’re actually okay, but lack in songwriting. 7/10
Bostin’, mah mayte!
One of those bands well known for their singles but underrated on their album output. This album clearly demonstrates that they were a lot more than a singles band. Some cracking rocking tracks
My dad used to have this album when I was a kid and I listened to it a lot. This was the album where they really defined their chart-happy glam rock sound, a formula which worked well for them. Gudbuy T'Jane & Mama Weer All Crazee Now are classic Slade.
Внезапно круто
Four mostly for nostalgic fun.
buen glam rock metal de los 70'
It's not that this is so fucking great, it's that they did this a good 15 years before this became just how rock music sounded. And it's actually pretty fun. A local DJ (some of us know who) once told a story on the air about how he bought the Quiet Riot album as a kid because he liked Cum On Feel The Noize (not on this or any album, apparently), having no idea it was a cover (yes, I just told the same story about doing the same thing with Talking Heads, five years earlier and much more tastefully). In this case the original and the cover didn't sound measurably different; the only difference was the makeup.
4 Can see why these guys were so big in the 70. Can also kinda see why they haven't had the same long term popularity as other bands from that era tbh. Overall thought it was great though, really fun rock album
Just as big an influence on Oasis as The Beatles. The review where someone typed "80s hair metal" underneath that sleeve and text that clearly says 1972 is amusing. A big unfortunate influence in the creation of that genre, though. I'm also seeing Led Zeppelin references in a few reviews. Weird, such different beasts. Maybe it's the type of reverb on Noddy's vocals being a little similar to what was favoured for Robert Plant? I hear this and I instantly feel like I'm wearing a knitted tank top and a wee pair of flares again. Is Top of the Pops on yet?
Did it rock? Yes. Was it good? Shut up.
Surprised no one is mentioning the random Beatles sound. The first half of this album is like pure AC/DC, as Chad said, and Noddy actually turned down the lead singer role after Bon Scott died. But the second half goes totally Beatles, and that extended track Candidate is like a rip off in a good way. I thought this was going to be all hair metal based on what I knew about these guys, but they have some real range.
I must say I definitely enjoyed this one. Makes a nice change to hear some classic rock, especially from a band that I know only one or two songs from. It goes a little bit into prog rock around the second half but I don't mind. Will definitely listen to more Slade albums in future.
becomes a lot better if you pronounce "slade" like "sade"
A cool mix of 60s style rock but getting into the harder rock of the 80s.
This is the kind of thing you wish you didjt like but you just can't help it. Dumb and fun.
This smells so much like the '70s, I can even smell someone who forgot to use deodorant... wait, that's me.
Oh boy. Liked this one. Glam rock must be one of my happy places for Roadtrips. Janis Joplin wasn't the greatest, but I like the bulk of this album...production value not the greatest but it still hits awesome for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Kill 'Em at the Hot Club Tonite
This slaps. Led Zeppelin took notes here.
Feels very ahead of its time. Super neat.
Álbum enérgico!
Vorher noch nie gehört und positiv überrascht worden. Nett zu hörendes Album. Erinnert sehr an Sweet.
Slade slayed
Glam rock with 17 consecutive top 20 hits. Their best-selling single, "Merry Xmas Everybody", has sold over one million copies. They were skinheads before they got in to glam in the early 70s, which, okay, guys. Thanks for moving on from THAT. Also, a bit of trivia: Slade originally did Cum On Feel the Noize, well before Quiet Riot. It's a little more... poppy then the version us 80s rock kids knew but Quiet Riot played it almost note for note, with very little experimentation. The original is that good. Look, it would take me a whole day to write up a thing for this band, because holy gads, the original guys are all still alive and some of them are still going. And the number of bands quoted across timelines and the globe is too much for me to even paraphrase here. Standout: Mama Weer All Crazee Now
Buen descubrimiento! Sonido potente, bonito, clásico, ganas de volver a escucharlo o escuchar otros discos!
I had never heard about this band. Surprised for good!
Noddy Holder is the X factor for me with Slade; with most other vocalists, I’d probably feel similarly to this album as I do with a lot of other “meat and potatoes” glam rock albums, but his conviction bumps it up a notch. 4/5
For no reason that I can explain, I never explored Slade. I was aware of them thanks to the Quiet Riot covers and the two hits from their 80s resurgence, but I'd never checked out an album. They write and play way better than they spell. Killer guitar tones, tough riffs, and some great rock piano as well. I'll listen to this again.
This was a nice, quick listen! I’d put it at 3.5, but I’m okay with 4.
2/11/26 - Listened while I did our taxes. Sounded like great classic rock to me, I thoroughly enjoyed. Top Song - Mama We're All Crazy Now
Dumb fun rock.
Ahead of their time. They sound like an 80s hair metal band like Great White. Enjoyable album. 4 stars
very catchy, rocky feeling
I dug this album, it's the perfect type of music to pad out a rock playlist. I don't think anything was super amazing, but the vocals were good, I loved some of the instrumentals and the band sounded really good in general. I listened to the expanded version on Spotify and the extra songs after Let the Good Times Roll were some of my favourites. Wonderin'Y in particular was a really good song. I also listened to Slade's original version of Cum on Feel the Noize after the album, having never listened to it before, and I'm not sure but I might like it more than the Quiet Riot version. All in all, I'm really glad to have found Slade through this, I'll definitely be checking out more of their music. Favourite song: Mama Weer All Crazee Now
This was better than I expected after accidentally judging it by its goofy-ass cover. Just straight up rock and roll and a huge dose of 80’s hair metal a decade before dumb bands like Motley Crue ran with this sound.
This is pretty decent. Kind of AC/DC and kind of Alice Cooper and bit Queen and a bit Sabbath and most importantly a bit Spinal Tap haha. Would listen again.
Admittedly, my knowledge of 70s party rock is a bit lacking, but everything I want to compare this to happened AFTER this record came out. AC/DC? Formed in 1973, conspicuously soon after Slade held the number 1 & 2 spots on the Australian charts. KISS also formed in 1973. While listening to “The Whole World’s Goin’ Crazee” I thought about how much it sounded like something out of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. That came out in 1975 and Meatloaf didn’t put out his first record until 1977. Andrew W.K. wasn’t even born until 1979. I guess Rod Stewart’s career predates Slade, but that’s the weakest comparison I’m willing to make. What I’m saying is, these guys are probably more responsible for your favorite shitty dive bar music than you’d like to admit. I came into this wanting it to be much worse than it actually is, and somehow find myself really rooting for these guys. Maybe it’s the “AC/DC before AC/DC” of it all, but I find it more compelling than I do AC/DC and I’m having trouble resisting the fun here. It’s so lowbrow that I can feel my knuckles dragging, but I can point to several punk albums with worse musicianship that I also love anyway. To that point, it’s interesting to think about this record in the context of 1972. Yes’s Close To The Edge also came out that year and is widely considered the popular high watermark for prog rock before the lowbrow backlash began to build. I won’t argue that Slade is proto-punk (all hail The Stooges!) but they certainly feel like an early prototype for all the party bands of the late 70s and 80s. Helluva rock & roll album! I have absolutely no idea which one of the guys on the album cover is the singer - half the time it sounds like it might be the geezer, but I hate that thought. (Spoiler: it's the geezer)
Day 145 Had never really given Slade a chance before, mainly because how overplayed the Christmas song is but I really enjoyed this, some absolute stompers. 8/10 Highlights I won’t let it ‘appen again Gudbuy Gudbuy Mama weer all crazee now
19/12/2025 I actually enjoyed this album Surprisingly. Spotify listeners: 5.8 million
Both kinds of music.. Rock and Roll! Another album from the early days of my journey.
Missed this band the first time around, but happy I found this. Great!
I had to give this a few listens. Never heard these guys before. I like it! I Won't Let it Appen Agen is great because we all know he's going to let it appen agen. Move Over was good but sorry, nobody sings it better than Janis. However, they do an especially great cover of Let the Good Times Roll.
4.3 / 5 (3.8 +0.5 for authenticity heard in the last recording) Although I consider myself pretty well-educated when it comes to Rock, I've never - ever - heard of this band before by name. The very first thing I noticed was how similar Noddy Holder (Slade's singer) sounds to Kevin DuBrow who formed Quiet Riot. Yet they have more to offer than just the usual Glam Rock / Glam Metal stuff. Finally an album worth listening to from start to finish to rate it accordingly. The sound of this group falls somewhere between T-Rex, QR, AC/DC and W.A.S.P., although not as hard as the latter 2. Slade sound like a natural stepping stone from normal pop-rock into real rock territory. A second striking thing for me is how many of their songs have been covered. I also enjoyed their version of Janis Joplin's "Move Over" way more than the original. Quality-wise this is actually not bad at all. Looking at the median score and some of the reviews shows that this group is a bit controversial. Imho though it's not bad at all, I'd even consider it good Rock music. Some of the songs here are definitely on the same level as other contemporary artists of the genre. It was a bit sad to read that Slade never really held their fame. (Small AC/DC rant coming in now) I'm honestly a bit surprised because when I compare the raw quality with some of their competitors, both Slade's songwriting and musical fidelity are both more creative and eloquent than AC/DC. Might be a shocker to many, I know, but AC/DC primarily has one sound that they put out very well - but that sound is both uninventive and repetitive, leading to a situation of "if you know 1 song, you know them all". Slade on the other hand mixes things up, some songs are a bit more upfront while others keep a more mellow undertone, creating something that could best be described as Led Zeppelin in a different flavour. The only thing that lacks a bit is the production quality, seem like this album didn't get a remaster, sadge. Given how bad some other and more well-known albums/artists are on the list, this one actually holds up and I'm surprised how good it is. I'd even consider it a hidden gem that deserves to be on this list and my personal Top 1001. "Slayed?" is definitely worth listening to if you're into Classic Rock. Best album of the genre so far (~110 albums in). Appendix: The last song of the album contains sincere thank yous to the people who bought Slade's albums and pushed them to the top of the charts, along with many happy cheers. The honesty, down-to-earth nature and charisma is something you rarely hear from any band on any album. With most bands these acknowledgements often sound made up or dishonest, but the Slade members sound like they were truly happy and actually thankful. This catapults the album into into the 5-star-territory for me and way beyond AC/DC.
Solider Rock der gefällt
Noddy’s famous scream about Christmas was actually recorded when Len Houmous gave him a nipple cripple. No one could quite get Noddy to go all the way until Len said ‘hold my coat’ and walked into the recording studio 4.1 8/17 Mama Weer All Crazee Now

### **Slade – *Slayed?* (1972)** **In-Depth Review: Lyrics, Music, Production, Themes & Influence** --- #### **Overview** *Slayed?* is the third studio album by British glam-rock icons **Slade**, released in November 1972. Produced by **Chas Chandler** (former bassist of The Animals), the album debuted at **#1 on the UK Albums Chart** and became a cornerstone of 1970s glam rock. It features two of the band’s biggest hits: **“Gudbuy T’Jane”** and **“Mama Weer All Crazee Now”**, both of which helped define the genre’s sound and attitude. --- ### **🎸 Music & Sound** Musically, *Slayed?* is a **raw, high-energy blend of hard rock, glam, and pub-rock boogie**. The band ditched the more experimental and Beatles-esque tendencies of their earlier work (*Play It Loud*) in favor of **concise, riff-driven anthems** designed for maximum impact. - **Riffs & Hooks**: Tracks like **“Gudbuy T’Jane”** and **“Mama Weer All Crazee Now”** are built around **infectious, muscular guitar riffs** that became templates for later glam and metal bands. - **Pacing**: The album is **fast, loud, and relentless**, with few moments of respite. Even the slower tracks like **“Look at Last Nite”** carry a swaggering intensity. - **Influences**: You can hear echoes of **Chuck Berry**, **The Rolling Stones**, and **early AC/DC** in the band’s boogie-rock rhythms and bluesy structures . --- ### **🖊️ Lyrics & Themes** Lyrically, *Slayed?* is **not profound**, but it’s **effective**. The band embraced a **working-class, party-hard ethos** with **deliberately misspelled titles** and **simple, chant-like choruses**. - **Themes**: Youth rebellion, drunken fun, sexual innuendo, and working-class pride. - **Notable Tracks**: - **“Mama Weer All Crazee Now”**: A **riotous anthem of chaos and celebration**, with a **call-and-response chorus** that feels like a football chant. - **“Gudbuy T’Jane”**: A **gender-bending, tongue-in-cheek rocker** about a femme fatale, with **clever wordplay** and a **memorable hook**. - **“I Won’t Let It ‘Appen Agen”**: A **defiant mid-tempo track** with **undertones of paranoia and control**, hinting at a darker side beneath the party surface . --- ### **🎛️ Production** Produced by **Chas Chandler**, the production is **raw, punchy, and intentionally lo-fi**, giving the album a **“live-in-the-studio”** feel. - **Pros**: The **energy is palpable**, and the **guitars and drums hit hard**. The **vocals are upfront**, and the **mix is uncluttered**, allowing the **riffs and choruses** to dominate. - **Cons**: Some may find the **production too thin or dated**, especially compared to the **more polished glam rock** of contemporaries like **Queen** or **T. Rex** . --- ### **🌟 Influence & Legacy** *Slayed?* was **hugely influential** in both **glam rock** and **early heavy metal**: - **US Impact**: While it **flopped in the US** (peaking at #69), it **inspired American bands** like **Quiet Riot**, who later covered **“Cum On Feel the Noize”** and **“Mama Weer All Crazee Now”**, bringing Slade’s sound to a new generation . - **Stylistic Legacy**: The album’s **boogie-rock swagger**, **chant-along choruses**, and **glam fashion** laid the groundwork for **’80s hair metal** and **pub rock revivalists**. - **Cultural Impact**: Slade’s **intentional misspellings**, **anthemic choruses**, and **rowdy persona** became **genre trademarks**, influencing everyone from **The Sweet** to **Twisted Sister** . --- ### ✅ **Pros** - **Infectious energy** and **memorable hooks** - **Genre-defining tracks** like “Gudbuy T’Jane” and “Mama Weer All Crazee Now” - **Raw, live-feel production** that captures the band’s swagger - **Influential sound** that helped shape glam and early metal - **Fun, unpretentious**, and **instantly accessible** --- ### ❌ **Cons** - **Lyrically shallow** – no deep themes or storytelling - **Repetitive song structures** – many tracks follow the same formula - **Production may sound dated** or too thin for modern ears - **Limited emotional range** – mostly stuck in “party mode” - **US underperformance** – never broke through in America during their peak --- ### **Final Verdict** *Slayed?* is **not a masterpiece of musical sophistication**, but it **doesn’t need to be**. It’s a **gloriously raucous, beer-soaked celebration of glam rock** at its most **pure and primal**. Slade **perfected the art of the dumb-but-brilliant rock anthem** on this album, and in doing so, **helped define a genre**. **Recommended for fans of**: AC/DC, The Sweet, T. Rex, early Queen, glam punk, and **anyone who likes their rock loud, dumb, and fun**. **⭐ Rating: 8.5/10** **Essential Tracks**: - “Mama Weer All Crazee Now” - “Gudbuy T’Jane” - “The Whole World’s Goin’ Crazee” - “Move Over” (Janis Joplin cover)
This album cover looks like a down syndrome ACDC
Love it, Great singalomg tunes.
I like this way more than I expected. Only knew them from the random Christmas song. Kind of an AC/DC vibe but a little more diverse in the song writing. Really like the vocals.
The horrendous misspellings are a key part of this album's charm
I Don’t Mind this album.
this is good, but after a bit in each song theres wasnt much to keep me interested. i liked "i wont let it appen again" and "move over".
Much cooler people than myself have told me for years how great Slade is and I still never listened to them. The only thing I ever knew about them is that a couple of Quiet Riot classics from my youth were covers of their songs. Well this rocks, and I'm embarrassed I slept on this band.
cum on feel the noize
Classic blues tinged working man’s rock n roll. Nothing fancy but gets the job done.
Fun
Actually really liked it - fun to rock out to (softly). Plus big love to black country performers 🎉
Look at last nite 5/5 I liked the album (not the 1st two songs) but I think T.Rex does glam rock better.
I definitely enjoyed this album. It was fun and energetic. It was never boring, if just a little repetitive. Definitely reminds me of a few bands, so probably not the most original style, but I like it and they do it very well. So, to answer the question, yes, they slayed.
The extended version is actually better than the regular cut for once! All the best tracks are bonus tracks
I actually really like this album a lot. They are basically a glam band with an AC/DC edge... An AC/DC hadn't even recorded their debut album when this came out. But this is very obvious missing link between glam and '80s hair metal... And the fact that Quiet Riot (especially Kevin Dubrow) pretty much aped their style (and catalog) with a healthy dose of NWOBHM. Honestly the only two songs that I didn't really get into that much for the two covers I think all the originals were bright and fun I think if I had actually heard this in the '80s when I was really into hair metal I would have loved this album a lot more than I do now but i still love the energy of it. (8.85) ★★★★
Favourite track: I don’t mind
Slay(d) Glam without being too glam, but still good fun. What's with the hair on the guy in the right though?
Slade. Wow! Listened to them as a kid in the 70s. Good memories although by far not one of my favourites today.
Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would for some reason. They definitely fall on the rock side of glam rock and this is a proportion that works I think. No songs with a runtime longer than three and a half minutes, no silly interludes or outros, it all ticks along nicely. It's still fairly straightforward stuff, no completely unexpected turns. Even so, one listen was perfectly fine. 3.5.
Mildly surprised. Though definitely famous for their Christmas anthem, this is a rather entertaining album. The charleston-like swing Kill Em At The Hot Club Tonite was a hypnotic interlude. Also enjoyed Wonderin Y, and The Whole World's Goin' Crazee. One of those where I won't be back, but I am happy to have my festive opinion of Slade changed.
The sound coming from a 1972 is what makes this worth a listen. It sounds like a lot of other bands but most of them came after Slade.
Not a lot of complexity or deep emotion. But it is a lot of fun!
I know and love Slade’s run of 70s glam hits - it’s not Christmas in my house until Noddy Holder says so - but I’d never listened to any of their albums. I think they may have been more of a singles band (Gudbuy T’Jane and Mama Weer All Crazee Now are the stand out tracks for me) but this was still fun.
Heard of them, but never listen to this LP before. Deceptively simple rock. However, there is more here. The easy thing would to say this is a precursor to AC/DC, and that is probably true but there is more. Slade has more emphasis on harmonies. I could hear elements that reminded me of The Beatles, and Queen. Overall, much more entertaining than I would have suspected from the cover art.
i know slade from a handful of their hits, so i vaguely knew what i was in for here. pretty fun glammy stuff here. it's not super mindblowing, but it's fun. their janis joplin cover on here is kind of rad? it almost verges on punk. the second side of this album goes kind of crazy. super fun. but yeah, you've got big power chords and shrieking vocals. exactly what you'd want from slade.
Wolverhampton's own. It was fun. Enjoyed it.
Interesting. I was 15 when I picked this record up in Winnipeg Manitoba during my sole year in boarding school. This record moved the needle. As I listen to the record now - almost 50 years from that first purchase, I’m amazed how this record full of what would be in a year called pub rock, is kind of precursor to the Feelgoods (Wilco Johnson) and Stiff Records. Along with Alice Cooper, The Sweet and Blue Oyster Cult, this record fits neatly alongside. Catchy party rock with some good riffage, Noddy’s vocals and flamboyant front man energy fit neatly in the Glam Rock era with T-Rex and Roxy Music. Like those bands they could craft a catchy tune. My favorites on this record are not the singles - The Whole World’s Goin’ Crazee, Gudbuy T’Jame and Mama Weer All Crazee Now - not because there is anything wrong with them. They are terrific. However, what draws me in now with a whole life experience are tracks like I Won’t Let It ‘Appen Agen and the bluesy I Don’t Mind both of which which capture Noddy’s distinctive and expressive vocals perfectly. The record is a quick one and still holds up fairly well in 2025.
Blast from the past
It’s tempting to dismiss Slade as a novelty glam rock band, appearing on Top of the Pops with mirrored hats and outrageous mutton chop whiskers, but they were always much more than that. For a while in the early 70s, Slade were one of the biggest bands in the UK and they also managed a great comeback as a last minute replacement for Ozzy Osborne at the Monsters of Rock in 1980. This album is a classic example of a rock solid band on top form, with a great selection of original songs and a couple of covers. Noddy Holder has a unique vocal style, and you can hear his Black Country accent creeping in. The rest of the band are equally tight, and as well as the stomp along numbers there are a couple of quieter tracks featuring (gasp!) a piano and even some harmonies. Bostin!
It was okay
Não conhecia absolutamente nada de Slade! Amei. Quando comecei a ouvir fez-me lembrar um pouco de vibe AC/DC, um pouco de Rolling Stones… vou explorar mais esta banda (senti-me meio ignorante por não conhecer, ups)
Fun from start to finish Feel a little crazee now
had not heard this before, really enjoyed it, I am not a fan though of the cutesy spellings
\m/
Wow great, how did I miss these guys growing up?
liked songs: Look At Last Nite, Move Over, Gudbuy Gudbuy, Kill 'Em At The Hot Club Tonite This was way better than I had any expectation of it being. Very fun. 4
Totally surprised how good it was.
Slayed? has its moments - some I dig, some carried on a bit long but maybe I listed to the ‘extended version?’ - however, there’s no denying it’s pure: that early, gritty rock ’n’ roll. The sound drips with glam rock bravado: long-haired guys, shirts off, strutting a quirky, almost femme edge; loud, scratchy vocals; and a brazen dose of sex appeal. It’s classic rock with irreverence baked in (intentionally misspelling songs etc) the kind of thing that clearly lit the fuse for plenty who came after. There’s a lot to appreciate here—a sweaty, stomping, no-apologies kind of rock listen that’s solid from start to finish.
I think besides "Mama We're All Crazee Now" being covered by Quiet Riot when I was a kid, I have never heard any music by Slade. (Today I learned that apparently their hit "Cum On Feel The Noize" was also a Slade single). Nevertheless, the gated reverb production on this sounds immediately familiar and so much of a time. My familiarity with glam begins and ends with the more well-known early 70s hits from Bowie, T.Rex, and Sweet, (who specifically sound like nearly interchangeable sonic siblings of this band). I gotta say that the shirtless dude camera right on the cover has one of the worst haircuts I've ever seen. Sorry Dave Hill, maybe that hideous fringe was your signature look, but man it sucks. (It did transition fairly well into your laters years' combover though, so there's that). I'm glad I didn't judge this by the cover art, however, because these tracks all hold up quite well: this record rocks pretty freakin' hard for a bunch of yobs in silver lameé bell-bottoms who can't spell. I imagine when this dropped, though, it was a totally fucking riot for the kids wearing makeup, platform shoes, and weird pants. These guys were probably great live. I can almost hear this filtered through some super echo-drenched beer hall in Wolverhampton erupting in androgynous screaming and smelling of Guinness and slightly of piss. That said, I dig this way more than I thought I would. There's definitely some space in my life for fun, dumb, unserious, good-time retro party rock and this checks all the boxes (and then some). There are no standouts really because I pretty much like 'em all. I will 100% be coming back to this record and checking out their other stuff as well. I almost wonder if Joy Division's Peter Hook got his bassline inspo for "Isolation" from Slade's cover of "Let the Good Times Roll" on this record. The mind reels. Anyhow, when the mood for early 70s rock strikes, I'd much rather listen to this than to put up with all the interstitial Middle Earth faerie mandolins of Led Zeppelin that were happening at the time. Then again, I'd really just be listening to The Stooges and the MC5 than any of it, who am I kidding?
Didn't realize this was the band behind Cum on Feel the Noize (also didn't know it was titled that way lol). Not bad. Often felt familiar, but I had never heard any of the songs before. Sometimes sounded like Rush.
😎
Enjoyable. I have not heard this album before.
FUN! Tunes
Have never taken Slade seriously and think that is exactly the way to approach this album. Don't take it seriously and just enjoy the beat, and I did enjoy it.
Better than I expected as have never really listened to them before
Slayed? is just a great, fun, no frills, unabashed, unapologetic, sleazy slab of rock n roll. The way it should be. Not a fan of the mix, the vocals are generally too loud and the drums are often lost under tambourine or shakers, but those issues don't take away from the vibe at all.
Pretty cool, sounds a bit like ac/dc before there was ac/dc.
This is not an intelligent album. Luckily, it doesn't need to be. It's not original. It doesn't stand out. It's not incredibly well-known. It's not packed with technical prowess. Luckily, it doesn't need any of these things! It's rock, it rocks - and it's pretty good at that! And that's enough! Exclamation mark!
Pretty nice
If my maths is correct, Noddy Holder was only 26 when this came out. He must have lived a rough as hell life to already look and sound like a 50 year old man in his mid-20s.
Never heard of these guys, and the album cover made me think it would suck. But No, I was happily surprised! This album had me smiling! This is very fun summertime drive the pickup truck to the dive bar rock. Nothing complicated about it. Rack up the pool balls, grab the cue stick for some air guitar, enjoy that beer and let’s go!
Kevin Dubrow and Quiet Riot is awesome.
The second half feels locked into a tighter group of songs that all fit together nicely. Like a fun precursor to AC DC.
Dudes got pipes and there’s consistent musicianship with variation between songs. Guitar sound is a bit grating, I’d like to hear them with modern polish on the recording.
Du vrai Rock !!!
Du bon rock 70s, toute en simplicité. J’ai apprécié. Par contre je dois dire que dans ce registre, Alice Cooper était bien meilleur.
rocks
Surprised me on the second listen.
6.5/10 - Nice album that goes hard. It can feel generic at times but it had that signature slade sound to it
Huikeeta seisarijytää! 4/5
great rock and roll!!! Inspiration for a lot of newer bands!
Lots of fun!
The band reminded me of early AC/DC, although AC/DC was a little bit more tongue in cheek. The intentional misspelling of words started off as cute, but then got a bit annoying. That's just me being nitpicky, though. They sounded like a fun band having lotsa fun and laughs. You can't argue with that. Top tracks: "Mama Weer All Crazee Now," "How D'You Ride," "Move Over," "I Don't Mind"
Never heard of these guys (or knew that Quiet Riot covered their Cum on Feel the Noize) but apparently they were major players in the glam rock movement. You can also hear their hard rock style; I feel like AC/DC is a descendent of Slade's style. It was a fun, rockin' listening experience. Not everything was gold, but there was a good groove going throughout the album. My favorite tracks were I Won't Let it 'Appen Agen, Move Over, Mama Weer All Crazee Now. and Let the Good Times Roll / Feel So Fine.
My spell checker is going haywire with this track listing. My initial reaction was "this is pretty typical glam rock." This is where doing a little research matters - Slade was at the forefront of the movement and directly influenced a ton of later acts, including punk bands, the glam metal acts of the 80s, and a lot of future Britpop (even if I'm not a huge fan of Britpop). So, they deserve respect for that - tons of other bands sound like them, but they were originals with this sound. As for this album, it rocks and has a great sound throughout, apparently often imitated. I wouldn't call it a 5, but I definitely enjoyed rocking out to it. Favorite tracks: Look at Last Nite, I Won't Let It 'Appen Again, Move Over, Gudbuy Gudbuy (ugh with these spellings).
Being unfamiliar with the band before this, I immediately got AC/DC and Twisted Sister vibes when I started listening to the album. So I looked it up, and turns out this album came out at a time when both of those bands had just formed/were about to form. I'm guessing Slade had at least a little impact on them (and countless others), which is likely one reason this band/album is on the list. As for the music, the album is about as straight forward as rock'n'roll can get. Strong guitar riffs leading the way, rock-style vocals carrying it along, the drums/bass beefing it up, and some extra flair added at times. As a result, there really weren't any bad songs on the whole thing, and it's a fun listen. They threw a softer track in there too for good measure, which helped break up how similar a number of the other songs were. I think my biggest critique for this album is that there isn't a lot to set it apart from other similar bands/albums, including a few I've gotten on here so far. It's good, but not super unique. Some of those other bands/albums are better than what I hear on Slayed, even if it is good. Of course, there's something to be said about being good at what you do, and this album is certainly better at it than plenty of other efforts that have been put out, both before and since. But, I'm not sure that takes it up to "great" level. All that to say, this is a solid album without any real weak spots. It's not going to be the best thing you'll ever listen to, but it will be something you can rock out to any time you put it on. That makes it pretty good in my book. Overall: 3.6/7
Slayed? was definitely one heck of an enjoyable album. It was always good but it did take until the third track to really get going but when it got going, it really did get going. The main thing i like about this album is the fact that many songs had very different melodies that gave off very different vibes from a Beatles vibe with Look At Last Nite to a more bluesy vibe with Mama Weer All Crazee Now. And of course, every song managed to be a good listen and just as whacky as their names. I don't think it's a perfect album but it is still a really good listen. So, It's pretty safe to say that these guys most definitely slayed with this one (pun very much intended). Best Song: Look At Last Nite Worst Song: How D'You Ride
Det høres ut som helt typisk 70-talls (glam)rock og æ vet ikke koffor man treng mer enn et sånt album på en sånn her liste, så det gjenstår å se om det dukke opp flere. Det e ikke dårlig, men det e heller ikke interessant.
I know of Slade through the cover of “Come on feel the noise” by Quiet Riot. Still basically new to me though, I didn’t love this outright but it grew on me and by the end I was jammin’. 3.75/5
"I'm A Goofy Goober" stretched out to 10 songs. 8/10
An original hair band
Dad rock and a dated sound, but quite enjoyable
Cool vibe hella cool vibe Kill'em at the hot club tonite is so good, jazzy and chilly yet catchy
I really enjoyed this! However, we hate a mega mix, especially a badly put together mega mix. If I could do half points I would doc this half a point for the bad mega mix.. but I can’t so it will stay at 4 stars.
estoy escuchando un disco de 1986 hecho en 1972
If I'd need to describe this album in one word.... REVERB. I don't think the vocals have enough reverb on them... jokes. It's a really good rock album. It's a bit samey but i've had it on the past 2 days on repeat so it cant be that bad right?
Maybe they don't propose nothing new or revolutionary but I like it, it was good, pure hard rock
No tenía idea que Slade existía, escuché el disco, hoy amo a Slade y quiero escucharles todos sus álbumes. Ese rock ochentero que tanto me gusta está aquí en cada nota. Buenísimo.
4/5
Much better than I expected this to be
A nice comfy 70s jacket to sleep in - not unpleasant at all - 3.5, rounded to 4 as although it didn't set my mind on fire, it made me happy! :)
Straightforward, hook laden glam rock but there's enough bite here to keep me interested. Crunchy guitars, the bass is present, and vocals are perfect for the style. Highlights: I Won't Let It 'Appen Agen, the surprisingly heavy Gudbuy Gudbuy, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Let the Good Times Roll. Go on then.
Often viewed as something of a joke in the UK (watch Reeves and Mortimer) this is actually a pretty decent record. Sure, they’re a pretty low effort Led Zeppelin wannabe, but they still did some banging tracks
Was not expecting this to be so much fun. Seems I have always underestimated Slade as part of the glam movement.
The Good: An inquisitive album title! The Bad: Wondering who’d like to know if we have been slayed… The Ugly: realizing that it was a misspelling and should have read “Laid?” Setting aside the obvious double-entendre, and the fact that at first listen this album is a little difficult to get through if you are not in the right mindset, all in all it ended up being an enjoyable treat, thanks in great part due to Janis J! Yes, when the song Move On started playing is when I started to pay closer attention… Still, though the album was not too shabby, and my rating of the album will be a 4* (yes, that is a spoiler alert), I can’t but wonder why it has been included on this here list? Do you have to hear Slade before you die? Well, unless one has been in a coma every Christmas season of one’s life, one will have heard Slade with their Christmas song ad-nausea...
I enjoyed that way more than I should.
I love Slade. Run Run Away is a frequent ear worm. This early stuff is a great vibe. Enjoyed the album. Last track (I think added in the extended version I had access to) was unnecessary.
Some of the better glam rock I’ve listened to.
Memories of early teens
Lots of good rock, including a memorable voice that works well with the sound.
They said it sounds like the Beatles and AC/DC writing songs for each other and they were right
Enough slade for you to throw a slade at. Fisher price brummy led zed? Low 4.
It hit on the right day. Not often am I in the mood for 70s British hard rock. But today I was.
beast album
I haven't added anything to my liked songs, but most songs (especially towards the end) sounded good on the first listen and that's impressive
Slade slayed it with this album. No question mark! Early hairband rockin’ it hard from start to finish. Move Over being the best of the songs and the hit I remember. Just a kick ass, fun listen. (4.4*s)
Brilliant!
Honestly it's good for mindless generic rock
More than just a very good pub rock band - can hear various influences in some songs, Led Zeppelin, CSN&Y and they probably influenced Kiss (but they sou d way better than Kiss, to me). Above average lyrics for this genre too.
I have an affinity for glam rock, so I may be predisposed to enjoying Slade. As usual, I have never heard this album before and probably only knew a few Slade songs. This is AC/DC without the harder rock edge and T. Rex without going totally glam. It partially but not in total. At times, the singer's voice was a bit grating like he was trying to scream the words rather than use his natural singing voice. But there is a lot of good stuff here otherwise. Even if the songs are hard to type since the titles are intentionally misspelled, these are my favorite tracks: How D'You Ride Look at Last Nite I Won't Let it 'Appen Agen Move Over Gudbuy T'Jane My Life is Natural Wonderin' Y I can hear modern bands trying to replicate the sound Slade has and their influence can be felt. I may be more of a Slade greatest hits person, but I enjoyed this album.
Enjoyed it, some decent pint spillers on there
“Cum On Feel The Noise” was a cover song? Wow learned something new today. This band slays! Adding this album to one of my seventies playlists for further enjoyment, thanks 1001albumsgenerator.com!
Lekker rockend, niet geweldig origineel, maar toch erg vermakelijk.
Oh Slade! I wasn't familiar with this album but I knew that Quiet Riot had covered Mama Weer All Crazee Now. I'm most familiar with the single Run Run Away (It's a good song to practice belly dance zil triple drills to) It's a fun listen and I would revisit it.
Not bad, never heard of these guys before. I used to think greta van fleet sounded like Zeppelin. They sound like slade.
Good fun - almost AC/DC without the nudge nudge wink wink of it all - and maybe not as good either. However the record was a fun listen and a welcome on days when high pitched sneer shouts and rock and roll guitars are what you’re after.
LP
p261. 1972. 4 stars. Once you get past the platform shoes and flares, you find the spiritual British cousins of Creedence Clearwater Revival. No-nonsense pub rock with one of THE great vocalists. Point deducted for the redundant covers.
Funsies
A pretty good album, I liked Look At Last Nite and I Don't Mind the most.
Not sure I would go listen to the record, maybe for a party. The music is pretty good though. I could definitely see them in concert. That would be fun.
I wonder how well known Slade are outside of the UK. Here, everybody known them for Meery Xmas Everyone because it’s played extensively every year. They do still have a few other songs regularly played, such as this album’s Mama Weer All Crazee Now. Noddy Holder has a very distinctive voice, which I would completely understand if somebody said he sounds awful, but I personally quite like him. He’s got that shrill distortion that Bon Scott also had. This album is old school rock and roll through and through, and it’s pretty easy to enjoy if you can cope with the vocals.
Fun
88% Best: How D'You Ride; Look at Last Nite; Move Over; Gudbuy T'Jane; Mama Weer All Crazee Now Must-Hear? Sure
A howling approach Laid out on noisy rhythms Straight forward hard rock
3.5
I honestly thought this was 15 years younger than it actually is. Gotta give credit for inventing hair metal.
Sounds like AC/DC but they needed more time in the oven
Early hair metal, good fun
There's been a lot of dumb, howling 70s rock on this list (maybe call it "jock 'n' roll"?) but man, this one takes the cake, in a great way. It's got some little glam flourishes that remind me of Faces (if they were good) or T. Rex. It's got the riffs and good-time atmosphere that an AC/DC record would have. It's just fun. Headbangable fun. Favorite tracks: "Look At Last Nite", "I Don't Mind"
Good
The first band I really liked, the first album I bought with my own cash and what I joy to hear it again. Proof that Slade were, first and foremost, a great rock n roll band, not just the brilliant Gubuy to Jane and Mama Weer All Crazee Now, but also the Whole Worlds Going Crazy and How D'You Ride. But there are also moments like Look at Last Nite that reveal a more sensitive side to Slade that foreshadowed Slade in Flame. There are a few fillers but overall a real blast of an album
I wouldn’t choose to listen to it again. Was pretty good though ha
4 stars. Never heard of them but I really liked them
I would have loved this in high school. Not much imagination though. They rock, don't get me wrong, but in the most derivative way possible.
It's Slade!
Early 70's Scottish hard rock, what's not to like.
What a great glam album.
This was so fun! Slade reminds me of car journeys growing up. Almost certainly featured of the aforementioned air guitar album. Such a solid tunes. Iconic riffs. Put me in a good mood.
That was great fun for what it is, a load of rocking. I love those songs that are just liked 'we're a rocking and a rolling and it's a big rocking party and look at us we're rocking and looking at you, you're rocking too, we'll all having a big ol' rock 'n' roll party'
Really good. Like a punk version of Led Zeppelin.
Really good album. Never heard before. Reminded me of some of my favorite singers/groups of that time.
It's a blessed relief to hear non-Christmas Slade songs! 🙏 Straight ahead party hard rock, it's a fun listen. Amuses me that they spelled the song titles as they did, but Noddy's singing voice is actually pretty well enunciated - he doesn't drop the H when singing "I won't let it happen again", for example. I suppose a full on Wolverhampton accent while singing probably wouldn't fly though, heh. Fave tracks - "I Won't Let It 'Appen Agen", "Mama Weer All Crazee Now", and "I Don' Mind" for the originals - their cover of "Move Over" is pretty good too!
Aww I like Slade! I only ever knew Feel The Noise and whatever their overplayed Christmas track is….but this album was an experience, their folky, they’re beautiful, they’re noisy! I like! It’s not quite a 5, as it wasn’t that memorable
I've never heard of this band but liked it. Seemed like 80s hair metal rock before the 80s.
Love the first song
British arena rock. It will sound like a lot of other bands that came after it.
honest and classic seventies rock
All I came to do was to Cum On Feel the Noize and instead I had to listen to some fun glam.
Nothing too memorable, but each track is solid with some standing out more than others and all quite enjoyable. Like the music style, the singers voice and find it surprising this album came out in the early 70s. Feels like early hair metal on some tracks.
Well, I'm already familiar with Slade, having heard the two songs of theirs covered by Quiet Riot. In fact, one of those songs "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" is on this album. It's clear from listening to Slayed? that this is pure 70s hard rock bliss, where Noddy Holder delivers powerful snarly vocals while the rest of the band plays well for raunchy party anthems. It's the dumb kind of fun if the sound and misspelled song titles are to go by. If you can get into that mindset, then absolutely give it a shot.
They certainly have a distinct sound. I understand the popularity but it's just not for me.
Generic rock but I liked it.
I had this album when I was very young and was singing along with all the tracks whilst listening. Great to see such positivity from people who have never heard it before. Good time rock n roll. A solid 4/5.
Good music to listen to whilst enjoying a bostin cup a soup.
Enjoyed this a lot, quite nostalgic for me. Extra points given for the black country connection.
Ridiculous, I love it. Song 10 is maybe my fav.
Really fun album! I’m honestly surprised I haven’t heard any of these songs before. I would come back to this.
i really wanted to give these guys 5 stars out of the gate but the fact is the poor bastards couldn’t be expected to write a whole album, they get 4 stars for the singles and the cover
That was a pleasant surprise, given I only knew them from their christmas song.
70s Glam Rock. Ok. +2 for Move Over 4/5
surprisingly great 4
Slade are honestly a very underrated band. This album came out in 1972 so preceded bands such as AC/DC, so at the time Slade's sound must have been really quite unique. This album doesn't really have any filler and is just generally a fun time all around.
Didn’t know what I was getting. It was fun and I’d put some of these songs on at a BBQ or party for the energy and to get my friends scratching their heads. Is it earth shattering or revolutionary? Probably not.
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Gudbuy T’jane, Gudbuy gudbuy, Mama weer all crazee now, I don’t mind
Loving a bit of Slade. Bringing back memories of dad listening to this on vinyl
Enjoyable bobbins.
I enjoyed this more than I expected I would. It definitely rocks, and the softer tunes are, well, tuneful.
You can really hear what would become the hard rock and heavy metal of the later 70’s in this one.
Haven’t heard much British rock in this project that’s party riffs and a general upbeat style of rock and roll. This is definitely preferred to most of the other British rock albums that have been presented here. Pretty fun listen.
4.0 YouTube
So, Quiet Riot could have covered any of their songs it seems. This was a decent album. It’s a party album where everyone is sitting around drinking or drugging. No dancing. I’ll give other albums a listen after this. I’ll be giving this a 4 but it could have easily been a 4.5 if that option was there. Choice Cut: Gudbuy T’Jane
Pretty solid classic rock and roll
This one was definitely a surprise to me as I had never heard of this band before and the album cover looked a bit cheesy. I enjoyed their song, to me it was a mix of sound of ac/dc and Led Zeppelinesque lyrics. I’ll definitely check out more of their stuff.
This whole album gives me big Beatles vibes. The vocals sound very familiar in that way to me, a bit like... I think it's Paul that it's reminding me of? But it could be Lennon and I'm just an idiot. Solidly enjoyable listen. 4.5
Reminds me of Rush but a little less prog. Pretty good!
Never heard of them, but they seem rocky. What type of gen z name is that, I know it has a different meaning but like "slayed?", they really must slay just because of being that cunty. Anyway starting off with First song, they are rock, but it started off with them screaming already. It's fun, I like the energy they bring, the verse was better than the chorus. It's quite basic tho I must say, howeverr, this is such a karaoke like song, knowing the lyrics and head banging uncontrollably to it too. Overall I'm not impressed yet. Second song, this one had a Beatles vibe definitely, just it's too hard. It started off in an interesting way. I don't like their voice, but I appreciate the effort they put into this. The instrumental break is so dad rock, it went on perfectly too. Their live concert must have been full of energy. I liked the screaming here. Outro made the song fade away. I'm not feeling this, because there are too many bands like this already, but in their time, it must have been something unique. It's the kind of songs that you need to know from your childhood to actually like it, I love many Beatles songs because they are nostalgic to me. Third song, this one's less screamy, and I guess that's better. The instrumental break is the best part here. The "la la"s are not as good as expected, though it's something different so I'll take it. It's not catchy, but I'm not annoyed either. It's not necessarily bad, I would never want to listen to this again tho. Pixes vibe, just realised, with those screams. 4th song, the start is quite energetic, and it goes with that beat whole song I assume. Not many lyrics. It sounds the same, it's expected though. "'appen" first time hearing happen said like that. Lyrics are basically done and only instrumentals are gonna be next I guess. I was mistaken, Spotify just didn't put other lyrics, because they repeat I think. The instrumentals were the best part, still I'm not entertained enough. 5th song, OOOH I WAS GONNA SAY IN THE LAST SONG IT HAS JANIS JOPLIN VIBE, AND NOW HER COVER. I've listened to Janis's album, and it was soo good, but Slade doesn't have the voice I liked in there, though the album has Janis injected into it. I very much prefer Janis's one still, her voice is just differently good for me. This type of thing happened when I found out Bob Dylan is the original singer of "make you feel my love", I only knew Adele sang it. 6th song, classy start, almost typical. Beatles vibe, with those lyrical delivery. This one's interesting, I like it more than others. Chorus is the best part here. The verses are fine, especially that "T'Jane" pronunciation. It faded away. Well this one is the best one here for now. 7th song, hard start. Verse is goood, it's Beatles, but screamy. The beat behind is so fun to pay attention to. The "bye bye" part is so weirdly put in. They mentioned the word "Gudbye" in two songs already, they do love wordplay in their way. The second half of the song, is basically the same, but there is this instrumental break, and more chorus. Well I do love the almost overpowering lyrics here. 8th song, doesn't sound any different. The last two songs did. Chorus is not for me. The second verse has this clap sound, and it fits quite well, that's the best part here too. Chorus for choiry now. I'm not moved. 9th song, it's slow, almost arctic monkeys' vibe. I'm kinda sick of this, and I can't even dance to it, to make this less boring. Imma listen to this tomorrow then. 10th song, I'm starting fresh. That scratchy voice is interesting almost like Janis Joplin, but a man. The instrumental break is loud, but in a good way. It's not Dion bad at least, it's just something I wouldn't listen to again. They can do better than this. 11th song, the verse and the intro are quite basic, but there is this intonation change I like. Now the chorus is catchy and rhymey. Interesting lyrics in a way. The post-chorus is veery fun. This was one of the best because of the chorus. 12th song, I fell asleep, it is mostly instrumental, but when it wasn't it was an usual rockish song, not amazed by lyrics or production. 13th song, it's too slow, I can say that definitely. The instrumental break is melancholic, but in a guitar way. Sounds like a ballad, not bad because of that, it's just insufferable for me right now. I say that I prefer fast and energetic ones here. 14th song, ohh this one has the energy absolutely. The chorus sounded like a verse for a second. Even though the name of it is quite attractive, it isn't as good as I wanted it to be. Guitar was the best part, the voice already is getting on my nerves, I need another perspective for this album, like I have to see this songs somewhere else and then I'll realise if they're actually good, I'm too objective now that is. 15th song, forgot to say stuff about it. I don't really have anything else to say. Everything is quite the same even in this song. The name is quirky, but not the song surely. I like the guitar only here, again. 16th song, I think these are those expanded version songs. This one's melody sounds like SpongeBob. Oh this is definitely not their style, I love this. It's jazzy, but like Broadway cored. He isn't screaming and making just pure noise. This is the best song yet, I just realised that the rockishness was the thing that annoyed me. The violin is doing its jobb. It's so simple, yet fun. 17th song, and the best vibe is gone. It was screaming, but now there's this talking, which I didn't expect at all, it decreases the volume of the song. There is two songs in this because of that "/". It's actually him talking, I prefer him screaming without the instruments, much more powerful. This song has changed its course 3 times already, I love it. Slow, talking, fast, instruments, screaming, I wonder what's next. They're thanking us, basically this is credits as if it was a film. Thing is I consider this as the most diverse song here. It's instruments now only, mostly guitar, oh the voice came in. Basically that's it I think, Imma just finaaaly rate this. I was gonna give this 3 stars, because nothing happened really, but because I like the genre and their energy, and especially those last two songs made me go with 4 stars, there might not be much reasons for it, but I potential in them
I felt the noize
Added
I liked this one! Reminiscent of The Who.
Wow, I enjoyed this WAY more than I thought I would. Maybe it's because I've had prog rock for the past two albums. Definitely dated and definitely a lot of fun. This is an album you play when you're really fucked up and can't find your Deep Purple. Is it me or was there a Talking Heads Psycho Killer vibe to "I won't let it 'appen again"? Chef's kiss to the bangs on shirtless dude on the cover.
Slade was a glam-rock band in the early 70's. They achieved remarkable success in Britain, and limited success in a few other countries, but very little notice in the United States. Slayed? is their third studio album, and was released in the middle of the band's most successful period - the first half of the 70s. Slayed? is full of energetic, potent rock songs. These are fun, punchy tracks that seem precursors of glam rock/pop metal of the 80s. This album includes a interesting collection of songs of notable range, and makes Slade one of the curiosities of popular music - why were they not more successful...?
Great album! Put your power on
This album definitely influenced a lot of bands. Kill em in the hot club tonite was a fun surprise
slay 💅 jk not bad 3.5
Fun 70s glam rock with some nods to 60s jams. I can also see how this band greatly influenced 80s hair bands like Quiet Riot & Twisted Sister. 3.5 stars
So many bands namedrop Slade as influences and you can see why. Classic album. Classic sound.
Slade are something of local legends around the Black Country, most famous for a few big hits, including "Merry Xmas Everybody" and "Cum on Feel the Noize". Despite that, I'd never really thought to have a listen to their albums. They sort of existed as a band with a couple of singles rather than having albums that might be worth listening to. This album wasn't revelatory or anything, but it was certainly better than I'd expected. Enjoyable glam rock and well worth the listen.
They have such a fun, playful, makes-you-want-to-party sound! Irresistable!
Irresistible fun. Largely underrated.
Fun
Pretty good glam rock. Way better than hair metal, even if it bears a passing resemblance.
Nice but dated
J'ai toujours beaucoup aimé le glam rock. Cet album me semble si familier que je crois facilement que ce groupe a eu beaucoup d'influence sur le rock qui l'a suivi
Was pleased to see this, though as per usual I only know the famous ones. Got off to a dodgy start with the vocals overpowering the music in the first track. After that it evened out and you could hear how they must have influenced the American hair metal bands of the 80's. It was rawer, or perhaps with Noddy's vocals that's roarer. But still very good. I enjoyed it got to be a 4

I've listen to only two Slade's songs in my life, and both are on this album and are their most famous, Cum on feel the noize and Mama we are all crazee now. This album was release at the hight of glam rock mania in 1972 in England and was one of the most sucessfull glam rock act of that time, between 1971 they would hit 5 #1 in charts and 13 top 10 songs. This album is their most acclaim, famous and probably their best work. Its a glam rock album in most fo the thing, but also a hard rock album, remind me of Aladine Sane, the New York Dolls or The slider by T.rex. Its very original their tradition to make mistake in the name of their songs, not very important to the music but still, its their trademark. Cum on feel the noize is accualy not on the album but a single realese for this album, anyway this song is a very good hard rock song, but the Quiet Riot version is more sucessfull and better. Mama we are all crazee now is the best of the album and probably their best of all time, i like this song is just very enegetic and powerfull. In general i will that this is a pretty good rock n roll album, plus Glam rock is one of my favorite music style so i'm kinda obligated to rate well this album. Even tho i wasn't struck by a lot of songs.
"Slayed?" is the third studio album by the British rock group Slade. Glam rock and hard rock. Right on. It was produced by Chas Chandler and the bandmembers are Noddy Holder (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Dave Hill (lead guitar), Jim Lea (bass, violin) and Don Powell (drums). Commercially it did fantastic in the UK reaching #1 and staying on charts for 34 weeks. It reached #69 in the US. A lead guitar riff opens "How d'you Ride." Holder comes in vocally. Yeah! Woah, AC/DC must have been paying attention. This is straight-forward rock & roll. "How do you ride, Honey?" Layered dual guitars, shaking tambourines and a pounding piano carry "The Whole World's Goin' Crazee." A searing guitar solo and we're still rockin' pretty hard. "Gudbuy T'Jane" begins the second half. A catchy glam rock guitar riff. A great rhythm guitar too. It was inspired by a woman, Jane, who demonstrated a sex machine on a TV show on which the band appeared. Holder's vocals just shine on "Mama Weer All Crazee Now." Catchy choruses, hand claps and sort of a Stonesy groove. This is glam rock at its finest. Also, this just might be birthplace of hair metal...for better or worse. It's about the band playing a show where the band before them was "crazy with whiskey." The album's closer "Let the Good Times Roll/Feel so Fine" is a cover of songs by Shirley and Lee and Johnny Preston. It's sped up. Pounding piano drums and bass. A fitting ending. This was fun. Glam rock, rock and roll and a bluesy stomp. Great lead and rhythm guitars. Noddy Holder and bandmemmbers set the blue print for hair metal nation. Ah, Quiet Riot got that connection going, didn't they. This album is recommended for everyone and if you're a late 80's metal fan, you might need to listen twice.
Good 70s guitar rock
Quality british classic rock
Beetje glamrock kan ik wel smaken. Niet de allerbeste uit het genre, maar wel een toffe plaat
Slade are probably most famous for their Christmas song but they have a lot of absolute rollocking bangers when you give them a proper listen. Easy to make a joke of them but really they were much cooler than you think.
They have more songs than 'Cum on feel the noise'!!!
Just the inclusion of gud buy t jane justifies this album. Slade are the forgotten heroes of glam. We tend to remember Bowie, Bolan and Queen, but Slade, Suzi and sweet were there too. Noddy has become a notable figure. They were probably not quite ‘there' to be the superstars that Bowie and Freddie became. But their best was magic.
Mucho glam y sleezy-rock. Canciones con ritmo, rock suave con voz característica. No muy guitarrero.
- this is a really fantastic album - lots of 70s rock bangers - a few curveballs that they executed well
I guess this is what they called 70s glam rock? Gives off T. Rex vibes, but I little heavier. I knew Mama We're all Crazy Now and Goodbye to Jane. Fun songs, rest of the album about the same quality. Everyone knows Quiet Riot made a living out of this band, but it occurs to me that the likes of LA Guns and Faster Pussycat owe them a Christmas card as well. Overall pretty good, didn't blow my mind but I enjoyed from start to finish. 4/5.
That was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. A bit goofy at times, for sure, but it was still a pleasantly shreddy, driving album.
Nice to hear Slade songs that aren't that bloody Christmas song.
