Reviews (page 7 of 7)

sounds like synth-y smiths

It was okay

No my cup of tea. Sounds too "Garage band-ey".

What is post punk

Not my type really

2 stars

Didn't leave much of an impression.

New Wave music just sounds so similar, not a fan. Highlights: Do It Clean Crocodiles

Old Order

I might be beginning to get a bit of British rock/rock-adjacent fatigue because this album fell impressively flat for me. There were maybe a couple of standout songs in either direction, but really the vocal range and tempos all sort of melded together into what felt like one big, long song-blur. Probably closer to a 2.5 than a 2, but here we are. Highlight: Rescue Lowlight: Happy Death Men Surprise Hit: Monkeys

It was okay. Nothing stellar, nothing I disliked. It was just fine.

I get how this would have blown people's minds in 1980, but it just seems kind of silly now.

I don't really get it. It just washed over me in one slightly bland dull wave

Just not my style of music. Not very good.

Should be my thing, but I don't like his voice and the songs are a bit dull. Doesn't grab me like Chameleons or Cure. Don't think I'll ever be a fan.

Not terrible, just eminently forgettable.

Fairly forgettable

Solid. Punk feel was nice. Just kind of boring. Gotta give it another try.

In theorie is dit best wel mijn genre en band, maar dit album kon mij niet te pakken krijgen.

Bland and dull. When you listening to this album you constantly try to remember what song was a minute ago, that's how forgettable it is.

Other than Killing Moon and Nothing Lasts Forever (neither of which are on this album) E&TB are a very boring band. A big fat meh of goth, there is one song which sounded a little like The Monkees which was less dull.

The drumming is pretty nice, but asides from that, this album is unobtrusive and uninteresting.

The typical new age/rock sound of the early 80s, but without songs that are any good. 2/5

Tämmöstä mitälie alternative rockia. Sinänsä ihan jees mutta ei houkuta kuunnella uudestaan.

I've left this album on in the background several times over the last few weeks, and no special magic has revealed itself. I liked the last Echo and the Bunnymen album a lot, on reflection. The guitar lines in particular stuck with me. For this one, nothing's really sticking. Even though I like the sound. 2/5, would absolutely see them live if I had the chance, but nothing is clicking.

Another Britrock album which somehow manages to lose steam it already didn’t have as the energy slowly peters out over the LP’s length. It’s albums like these that have made me consider taking a break from the project for a week or two - these British throwaway albums are a dime a dozen and I’ve honestly run out of original things to say about them

Bland and unmemorable.

- Oh no not these guys again - This album is better, nice upbeat vibe - Not something I’d go back to

Mais um disco para me comprovar que não é pra mim a emoção carregada dos sons pós-punk. Pelo menos são menos de 40 minutos do vocal em afetando tristemente.

I Like the instrumental, not always a fan of the vocals

Today's album is another obscure post punk/new wave band from the UK. They apparently take a dark, gloomy post punk sound, and mix in aspects of psychadelica. After listening, that is not true. You can't just spew nonsense lyrics and be considered psychadelica. This is like goth pop. More moaning, talentless ass hats from the 80's. They fall in the same fucked up category as The Smiths, The Cure, or Joy Division (all garbage). Happy Death Men is especially awful. If you are feeling depressed, don't listen to this horseshit, it won't help. I've said it before, if you can't play a musical instrument, don't produce a fucking record. What tool signed these idiots to a record deal. Whoever it was must have been deaf. Trash. I can't wait to forget this bullshit. No redeeming qualities at all. I'll never listen again. Favourite songs: Do It Clean, Crocodiles, Pride Least favourite songs: Happy Death Men, The Pictures on My Wall 2/5

Not very interesting. They all sound kinda the same and I'm not into this sound

it wasnt good last song isnt available in my country maybe it wouldve swayed my opinion (doubt it though) at least it was pretty mellow, easy to listen to

Pop-rock sin contemplaciones. Nada del otro mundo. Canciones bastante parecidas entre sí

Nothing special

Pretty interesting album. Nothing crazy

English post punk band from the 80’s, here we go again. I wrote that sentence last night prior to listening and after, I stand by it still. When I looked up the band I noticed I think we have had one of their other albums on this list before. I'd be curious what I said on that review and wonder if it is similar to what I'm about to say now. Nothing to write home about, not sure why this is on the list.

Ain't no way. Ain't no way we're already at two albums from this dull British group. Ain't no way there's still a third to come. This isn't just British bias, it has to be a very personal bias by the guy who made this list. What about this band is worth including on a list like this? What at all did they add to the conversation, to the tapestry that is the history of music? I'll wait for an answer. In the meantime, I'll be listening to something else entirely. Favorite tracks: Rescue. Album art: Pretty cool color gradient for what seems like a band photo. I do enjoy this one. 2/5

Kind of a straight-down-the-middle early alt record. While it has the general comparability to classics like London Calling or even The Cure's first outing Three Imaginary Boys, it doesn't manage to capture the creativity, rebellion or catchiness those albums do. I found myself wanting to just move on to the next tune on virtually every track here.

This album wasn’t representative of the jams they’re capable of. This was dollar store Cure/Clash.

"I've been here, I've been there, I've been everywhere". Was this written by a 12 year old?! Every song follows the same boring recipe with the exception of some interesting riffs and hooks. However, that is not enough for me to recommend this album.

Huge joy division post punk type vibes from the first song. Ian curtis sounding too. Altogether not as good though. they kinda went a little more rocky than most post punk joints and i wasn’t as much a fan

Fairly forgettable

weird album, never seems to go anywhere and is a bit lukewarm

Meh, why?

Not for me

Too 80s for me to really like much. Decent middle of the album though with the title track then Rescue.

Some fun instrumental moments but I really don’t care for here vocals or lyrics at any point.

My first experience with Echo and the Bunnymen. My first impression was very favorable. I went into the album not knowing any of the songs. I’ve heard of the band, and I think they had a song on a compilation album I had back in the 80s. It is something I think will definitely grow on me with time. First time rating: 2.5

Some cool proto-punk from 1980. (I think they call it proto-punk?) I like the first track and it's cool how it goes from loose vocals and spanky guitars to a more toned down groove that feels like a Tears for Fears part. That's a cool contrast. Overall I enjoyed listening to it but it didn't particularly move me in one direction or another. It was just kind of there.

Like the Cure it's just a bit miserable, and therefore not much fun to listen to

This album was incredibly boring. I kept forgetting I was listening to it.

Yeah a boring ass post punk album like this was not what I needed on a night as frenetic as this. Most of it went in one ear and out the other while I spent all my brain power thinking about other things.

My reception of this album is suffering from the fact that this is the third of theirs that we've listened to. It's fine, but it's not as good as the other 2, and did we really need 3 albums from this band?

Cool attitude, nice post punk sort of feel, but a bit more minimal than my taste.

Generic, unforgettable, bland

I found this to be derivative and boring.

I love this band but this album did nothing for me.

Muuten ihan ok

Very mediocre with nothing standing out. Just fairly bland, like The Cure but without any melodic sensibility.

Best Song: Happy Death Men. I actually liked the noisy and cacophonous outro. Worst Song: The Pictures on My Wall. For several songs on the album, it feels like the vocalist is doing a bad Bowie impression. This feels like the worst of those cases. Overall: Just dull. Not sure why this stood the test of time, or why it's considered noteworthy now. Inoffensive and generic.

Uninspiring

It was all very bland. Nothing exciting burrowed into my brain from this listening, it just really missed the mark for me. Which is disappointing because The Killing Moon is a gorgeous song that I love, so I was looking forward to this album. But it’s not on here and these bunnymen are a few years away from that greatness yet.

That's gonna be a no from me.

I didnt enjoy this, it washed over me and I have no real memory of it at all

Pretty boring

It's fine

No le pude encontrar el por dónde

Not my fav echo and bunnymen record. This is their poor mans joy division phase.

You can hear the start of something. But one listen is probably enough for me.

Album was ok. Every song sounded the same. New Age early 80’s UK punk

It's ok, nothing mind blowing

It’s an ok rock album. Nothing really stands out. It’s the first album by this band and it has some variations on what came before and has a unique voice but Ocean Rain is a little bit better. 5.1/10

Nothing special

not for me

Nicht richtig furchtbar, aber auch nix besonderes. Muss man nicht gehört haben.

just so uninteresting

Pretty average. Weaker than Ocean Rain

Not my favourite, but reminded me a bit of The Clash

I like this band but this album doesn't do it for me. I wish it had more energy.

Quite boring in my opinion. Everything kinda sounded the same and nothing really stuck out as great. Vocals are weak too.

Pretty boring listen, not good, not bad. Just kinda there.

This is pretty decent, but very 80s-sounding. 80s with a little bit of the 70s grime left over. Interesting. I asked Pablo why all 80s albums sound so flat and tinny and he said everything sounded like that until hip hop came out and brought the bass. No bass until then. Makes so much sense. This is a decently boring album. I'd give it a 3 rn. This shit is boooooooring. Can't wait for it to be over. Pablo had me listen to their self-titled and it's INFINITELY better than this album. Why couldn't that be on the list?!

Pretty unremarkable stuff. But alright I guess.

Fine if unlikely to return

Fine album. Just not really my taste.

How can I break it to Mike? I'm not a fan.

more 80s that is big for some people but not my thing

Nothing special.

I wasn't really pulled in by many of the songs. Didn't hate it, didn't really love it. Might be one to come back to Saved: Stars Are Stars

Saved Prior: None Saved Off Rip: None Cutting Edge: Do It Clean, Pride, Crocodiles, Rescue, Read It In Books, The Pictures on My Wall Overall Notes: Wasn't a huge Echo fan going into this and the sentiment remains. All sounded more or less the same and wasn't terribly interesting. Maybe their later albums will be better.

Just OK. Songs sounded awfully similar.

Bit of a nothing album.

yea im not into this album.

Not as good as Ocean Rain. All the songs end up sounding the same, but it transitions nicely because I couldn't tell the difference between songs. 3/10

Okay we get it the dude who wrote this book likes British rock and punk bands from the 80s. Jesus christ this album was so imminently forgettable I'm actually angry about it.

It wasn't unlistenable like some post-punk, but it is still a hard 38 minutes to get through musically.

Forgettable album

some ok songs, do it clean and crocodiles, but the rest was just okay

Fav: Rescue

Lackluster at best. I don't even know what genre of music this was. Punk? Soft punk? I don't care.

Post-punk, psykedelisk britisk rock

Sounds like an album that would be playing over the speakers as I shopped for records. Most of the songs blend together and while I appreciate the energy on the tracks, it's just kind of dull overall. Favorite tracks: "Do It Clean" "Happy Death Man"

basically same as the Lloyd Cole album, not a fan of this early 80s post punk vocalisation

Bland, forgettable and just plain bad. This authors fascination with British new wave continues to astound. A band I’d never heard of with songs that had no recollection and left just as easily. It was when they rhymed song and wrong and later on critics said they loved the lyrics that knew the past is a foreign country. Just abysmal.

heh...I'm a little behind BUT I'LL LISTEN TO IT ISTG Update: I probably chose a wrong time to listen to it (a very stressful one, FUCK U UABC) so...I'm sorry

I started to tune out of this one before I even hit the halfway point. It was just dull, nothing about it interested me at all.

Lots of noise.

Who likes this bland stuff

Not my cup of tea.

I'll give them credit, I might like them the best out of all the New Wave bands I've ever heard. Or maybe that's damning them with faint praise? I am glad this is a short album. Villiers Terrace is just a super repetitive annoyance. If I've said it once, I've said it 1,001 times because that's how many New Wave albums are apparently on this list, New Wave sucks.

Zero desire to ever listen to any of this again.

Never listened to this band before and don’t think id do it again

Não curti não

Nothing inherently wrong with this one it's just kind of boring. Rock & pop from the 70s/80s gets all this shine but when you really dive in, the whole genre is top heavy. The greats are great, but you have this kinda stuff that is considered middle class and doesn't hold up. I didn't really have much fun after the first few tracks. It became background music that I'd hear in an old record store. Highlights: Do It Clean, Rescue

I’ve never heard a tune from these guys that I thought was even remotely bearable. I do not understand the appeal.

Not my thing at all. Not one memorable track

Got through the first song and couldn’t listen to the rest

Let this be a lesson to all 80s post punk bands going forward. I do not want to hear it.

not my genre

Ah, more post punk. Another album with the perfect mix of punk's distaste for decent vocals and pop's distaste for interesting songwriting. This felt totally devoid of everything to me. Completely mediocre, start to finish. Am I missing something here? Fave track: - Rescue

Never ever been a fan of this group and couldn’t tell you one memorable track

Not impressed. Actually bored listening to it. I just couldn't get into it.

Dreary

Three albums from these fucking guys are you kidding me? Such bullshit I cant believe i haven't given up on this 928 albums in what am i doing.

Oof, I didn't enjoy this.

Entretiene pero no he conectado demasiado

Had an ok time with Stars Are Stars and Crocodiles. That’s it really.

Sounds like a demotape of early U2. Why is nobody complaining on the band not playing coherent? The drums are always off (the drummer just joined the band mid recording) and I‘m always afraid the songs fall apart. Horrible listening experience.

Another total "sound" of British post punk scene. Lips like Sugar is a banger, but again, this is the "album before the album" that lays our the vibe and sound of Bunny and the Echoman. Not bad, they improved from this, imo

Crocodiles did not snap as much as I'd hoped. Compared with the previous list entry from the Bunnymen, this album was a yawner. The only song that got my attention was "All That Jazz" (and I don't like jazz). Boring, somber alt-rock. Not a list deserver in my opinion...1.26 stars.

They really like reverb and long drawn out yelling lyrics. Otherwise, more boring '80's proto-emo. Kind of like the Cure, but not as good.

Not overly into this, not very memorable. Honestly haven’t listened to the band before, which is strange because I went through a phase of listening to a lot of psychedelic music, but this album just felt quite dull

I don't like this song because it is in a dark mood. I would not recommend this song. I don't like this song because the beat is not that good. I would not recommend this song. I don't like this song because the beat was not that good. I would not recommend this song

I am not a fan of this album because the lyrics are not that good and the beat is boring

I don't like it because of the beat and I don't like how they sing . I don't like the second song either because of the same reasons. the third one is bad too I do not like the beat at all I do not recommend this .

I don ´ t like the style of music i just don ´ t like the genre the lyrics i don´t really like It's not a song i would listen to on a daily basis. the second song i dont like because its just kinda weird and not somthing i would listen toaa

the first song is buns its weird all of them are buns

Nothing stood out.

The better stuff is like U2 (yuck), the worse stuff is Talking Heads 80s trash

Super boring - Doors wannabe.

Pretty unforgettable

This was new for me, never heard of them before. It was alright, but clearly not my style of music.

This album sucked so bad. Jeez, who picks these turds. No memorable songs. And boring as slugs slinking across trailer siding. 1001 album worthy: No - 43/77

This album not only shouldnt be on this list, it should have been forgotten to the sands of history. Its so boring and bland that you'll probably have difficulty distinguishing it from the other british bands on the list. 1/5

Obnoxious voice, bad rock sound.

I though this band was from the 60s for some reason. I wonder who I was thinking about... Anyway. This sucked.

Not for me

Just did nothing for me. One and done.

This is not great. The piercing note that seems endless on Pride was pretty much the offramp. Really uncomfortable.

Eh, didn’t like this one much. I couldn’t connect with any of the songs.

More of the jangly new wave and just boring. Not for me. Couldn’t wait for it to be over.

I couldn’t even finish this album. Possibly the worst yet.

Boooooringggggg.

It felt really samey and I got bored real fast

Nah, kind of boring

1. going up - 1 2. do it clean - 1 3. ztarz are ztarz - 1.5 4. pride - 1 5. monkeyz - 1 6. crocodilez - 1 7. rezcue - 1.5 8.villierz terrace - 1 9. read it in bookz - 1 10. the picturez on my uuall - 1 11. all that jazz - 1 12. happy death man - 1

Not my bag but I quite enjoyed the instrumentation. I could really like this band given the right song

Shit sucks 2 1

Too bland to even come up with any sort of review

Not interesting at all.

I feel bad giving anything one star, but I suppose it exists for a reason. I'm sure this band is great and I just don't get it, but I just don't find this to be an enjoyable listen.

Incredibly unremarkable half an hour of music that's pretty much one long and fairly boring song. Clearly, this list's curator likes their bunnies

Gonna be honest. Didn’t listen but it won’t let me hit didn’t listen so sorry about the star if you guys listened to it and enjoyed it

I actually like quite a bit of their later stuff but this is like a really bad Joy Division without any hint of a hook or melody. The whole thing made me a little anxious! 1/5

fucking dull

Let us know
