Reviews (page 6 of 7)
Pretty fun sound, but a bit repetitive and a bit derivative. Good listen but probably won't go back.
I really wanted to enjoy this more than I did but I just found it a bit boring and samey.
I really enjoyed this album, but I'm not hype enough on it to put it in 4 star territory. Some of the bigger songs, like "Do It Clean" and "Rescue" are solid entries!
Was pleasant enough, not one song jumped out and grabbed me though.
I enjoyed this one as well
Great for my ongoing “new wave” education- a selection of music my dad didn’t really expose me to, thus creating a blind spot. Echo & the Bunnymen are pivotal to this scene, and this is their first record. Pretty solid. 3 stars
Good country, love the sound and lyrical theme. Need to revisit the album to get a better understanding of the lyrics, but just the sound is enough for me to like it, 6/8 REVISIT
Was just ok
Liked the mysterious and sad atmosphere but the songs fail to make this more than an average album
Always a good band.
Ok
Spotify. Ok listen. No standout song.
It just isn't my thing.
Ok but not great. Never hear anything about this band either
3.5/5. Pretty decent, I would have to listen to it again to get a better judgment and thought about this one.
[monkeys] i learned a word: bagsy [crocodiles] has that classic new wave beat, i love it napa-check ako if all of these have animal titles, nope only those two in general, this is not yet the echo and the bunnymen that i know (i say Songs to learn and sing is their peak, 5 years after this). It's getting there, 3 stars for now
Overall, not a bad album, it was quite nice leaving it in the background while I was doing stuff. It seems to have maybe come out a bit earlier than similar-sounding music, so I assume it must've been relatively popular.
Really like the band, but this album didn't land at all.
I didn't really love this :(
Didn’t really get into it so stopped it early on
Nothing in or about this album hooked me.
I think Robert has some bias towards post-punk because some of this music is not that revolutionary, but somehow makes this list
1,9/5
Dreary. Just no connection with this. 2
Not for me
Unless Hootie and the Blowfish or Catfish and the Bottlemen are in this list, this might be the worst-named band of the list. This is reminding me of a bunch of other tedious post-punk bands I have heard from this list, and I really didn't need to hear another. 41 minutes I won't get back again but also they could have been worse spent. This sucks but it didn't actually offend me, although the rumour that there are 2 more Echo And The Bunnymen albums on this list does not bring me joy.
++: Crocodiles, Rescue, All That Jazz, Happy Death Men +: Going Up, Stars Are Stars, Monkeys, Villiers Terrace +-: Pride, Pictures on My Wall 5,5/10

#402 / 1089 Heard before? ❌ Revisit? ❌ I've only heard Porcupine before this one and it was for this project. I didn't like it and I'm kind of scared to start this one. Yeah, not my cup of potion, but it's not as annoying as the other one was. So I'll give this an extra point. 2/5
An unpleasant surprise, as I expected to find hidden gems on this album. A couple good songs, but I will forget I ever listened to this album in a week.
it was just meh, some good guitar but that awful vocal style spoiled it for me
Nothing special
I like E&TB, they have some amazing songs but is this truly an album everyone should hear before they die? Nope. I continue to have a daily battle with the criteria, how this list is compiled & what's included. This sounds like an early 80's new wave album, I'm not sure what sets it apart other than establishing their sound & setting the table for future success and longevity. I liked the moody opener, "Going Up" (1.2M listens), and I preferred "Monkeys" (570K) over the "more" popular tracks "Do It Clean" (4.8M) and "Stars Are Stars" (1.2M). Most people will find this album dull and boring. It sure doesn't break any new ground and the majority of the songs are underwhelming (listen to the last 3 tracks!?). The listener counts for a 50 yr old album are very low. 2.5 stars. It doesn't belong on this list, it's just not worthy.
I don't feel like this ever got anywhere. Needed more oomph
The two hits I knew of Echo and The Bunnymen - which are great - before this list really did not prepare me for how boring I would find this band.
nothing special
возможно альбом не самый лучший, некоторые песни группу нравятся, но тут 2.5 скорее
A bit tedious. Not sure why it's on the list.
This was their first album so their sound wasn’t fully formed yet. This had elements of the Clash, early U2 and REM.
Es el segundo álbum de esta banda que escuché mediante la página y vuelvo a convencerme que no es una banda para mí. Este álbum es mejor que el otro que escuche igual
One thing this list is succeeding at is reducing my ability to tolerate middling quality British bands.
A bit raw, a bit bleak, a bit proto.
Kind've a gnarly band name. I'm a little scared. Wait no I like this. Very Springsteenesque. Very interesting. Gives me halloween vibes. This could be the soundtrack to a shitty cult classic slasher movie. I really like the way this sounds. Great songs. Not really remarkable. Favourite: The Pictures On My Wall Least favourite: Crocodiles
I don't know what to say about this one....was it innovative in 1980 or something? It sounds like 100 other better records. It borders on 70s rock and the punk movement that's about to start, but does neither well enough to hold your interest. Cool cover, though
mid. not bad, not good, will never listen to again unremarkable
My third Echo album, didn't like the first two, rated a one and a two. Surprised that this one was more interesting and had a bit more of an impact on me, but not enough to move me into a 3. More listenable but still wouldn't choose to listen.
A strong dose of “ehh” on this one. Competently made, and with reasonable-enough musical ability. It’s just not engaging, and wafts and rambles through the whole thing. Boring. 2.5 rounded down.
Not terrible but not inspiring
no me gustó ninguna salvo la primera
Basic
2 - not terrible but forgettable
filler album, both in content and for this list. NME described it as the best 1980 album by a british band which is an incredibly low bar. it's not bad it's just not really Anything noteworthy. i listened to this one at the gym so i had plenty ability to focus on it but there are only a few tracks like "pride" or "monkeys" that had me even tapping my foot. the guitar tone on some of these tracks just made me think of the band molchat doma who i'd much rather be listening to instead. besides, men shouldn't be bunnies. those are for women.
Y'all didn't need to make 1001 albums into a list if you didn't have 1001 albums to fill it with. This is kinda mediocre filler. I like a LOT of post-punk, but this is like what I imagine someone who doesn't like post-punk hears when they hear good post-punk. It drags on whilst sounding very much like every-other 80s post-punk bands B-side tracks. Except that's the whole album here. It's not terrible by any means, there's definitely been far worse on this list so far, I just felt like there were no standouts and looking through wikipedia and other reviews I can't really find anything noteable about the album to justify its inclusion.
This band's version of brit-pop-punk-rock didn't particularly impress me, as I would rather listen to acts that likely inspired their sound on this album like David Bowie or The Cure. But nothing offensive
Meh.
I don't think it's bad but it's also really forgettable in comparison to other albums of theirs
It all sounds the same. There is no difference between songs. Disappointing.
Tried many times but can't just into this band. They seem to have been influenced by Bowie when it comes to vocal style. They just don't seem to pull it off well.
It was boring
This is better than ocean rain. Sounds like early U2, but still not good enough to make it stand out from a very congested crowd.
😐These guys are relatively new to me. This is my second album from them. First time around it was new and interesting. Once was enough-shit is boring
One of those records I have been intending to check out for about 30 years. Maybe a bit underwhelming - was expecting a more psychedelic or generally weird-sounding record that would point to the echoey pop of their later career I'm a little more familiar with. Maybe like a bunch of tunes that The Cure thought just weren't working.
meh
It was okay ... for a while. But for 12 songs at 38 minutes, it felt MUCH longer.
Oof! Definitely not my thing. Nothing there to grab or keep my attention. I was ready for the album to finish about half way through. I don't know what it is about post punk from this era, but it's a sub genre that just doesn't appeal to me.
This album feels like it was recorded inside a fog machine. Not terrible. Not amazing. Just very committed to sounding like it owns at least three trench coats. Every track has that specific “mysterious 80s” energy where someone is definitely staring out a rainy window thinking deep thoughts… but nothing is actually happening. At some point I stopped recognizing where one song ended and the next began, but in a very polite, synth-adjacent way. 2/5 — not offensive, just aggressively era-appropriate. It didn’t bite. It gently… hovered.
The instrumentals are cool, but the rest of this record feels kind of boring. Favourite Track(s): Crocodiles Least Favourite Track(s): Pride, Monkeys, Rescue, Happy Death Men
No
Three albums from these guys? I get needing to know the band but seems like we’re leaving some stuff off for some meh albums. This was….fine. Not a bad listen but didn’t grab me. Probably my least favorite of the 3 we’ve had so giving a 2.5 and rounding down bc they’ve had multiple chances to get my attention and didn’t do it.
Another mid UK rock/alt album. I'm sure it was progressive and influential for its time, but it was a miss for me.
It was okay. Never really changed the pace throughout the album and not song really stood out. Not a fan.
It isn’t the one with killing moon on it
Album and artist I’m unfamiliar with so this is a first time listen. This is okay. Kinda enjoying it but nothing is blowing me away. It’s punk inspired with a slower and more early 80s sound. Through the first half of the album, my main thought was this is fine. Nothing here sounds particularly remarkable, but certainly sounds like early 80s British rock music. I was hoping it would get a little more fun, but never really gets there on the second half either. It’s hard to tell if this is influential to the later sound, or if this is a beginning sound for a band that gets better, because so unfamiliar with this band and generally the genre. But that being said, on its own it doesn’t wow me. I think I would be stretching to give it higher than a 2.
Snooze
This sounds like the cure but with much less intrigue. This is a pass Nothing stands out. At all. Other than all the songs sound the same, which is the 80’s, I get it but even Culture Club changed things up.
Boring. But that's probably mainly due to the chosen style of music. 2.5/5
Not a particularly enjoyable listen
Yes this is an album.
I like the song read it in books. It moves away from the heavy instrumentals of the first songs. It is a very hard album to stick with
Very dissonant debut album, had not heard it but does slightly pale in comparison to the more popular 'Ocean Rain'. 7/10 [DROP]
A couple of noteworthy one but mostly a yawnfest.
This album just bored me. It seems very one dimensional. I enjoyed the drumming, but that's about all.
It's a good job I was preoccupied when listening to this, there were several moments when I considered turning it off. However, I did get all the way through. Musically it sounded incomplete, like a band playing songs for only the 2nd, 3rd or 4th time and not really gelling. Maybe that's the sound the band is aiming for, but it does nothing for me.
Meh.
It was fine overall, but I could have skipped this and nothing of value would have been missed. The singer’s voice is the most annoying of the British post punk I’ve gotten, but it still didn’t click.
Did not need another Echo and The Bunnymen record to be in this list. Not better than the other (killing moon I think) and just mildly interesting
Meh 2.5
2.4
Not sure why there are three Echo albums on this list. Is the weather in the UK so miserable? This album isn’t as bad as I was expecting. Little bit of cure, little bit British new wave. But not enough to convince me we need three of their albums on the list.
It is Allright, not fulltime my style
This band does not resonate with me at all. The bass makes it sound like the band is stuck in the mud. There is not much melodically that interests me. I wouldn't be able to say what genre this was if it wasn't written in reviews and articles. To me it's would be bland-rock.
Crap
I wish I had more to say other than "Bored!". I guess technically nothing wrong with it, the music is fine. Just didn't do anything for me.
2 listens and I still don’t hear anything exemplary.
This just doesn't capture my attention like it should. It has all of the pieces of music that I like, and yet, I don't find it all that special. I'd rather listen to the band's contemporaries. Do It Clean is a great song though. Best Songs: Do It Clean, Crocodiles Worst Songs: Rescue
Hmm I didn’t enjoy this one much. Similar feeling I get from a lot of early 80s new wave of it feeling quite amateurish honestly. 2 stars
на бумаге мне это должно было бы понравиться, но на деле совсем не понравилось. скукота
I feel like some 80's New Wave records have not aged that well. Moreover, they lose something if listened to many years from their release. It was overall kind of enjoyable, but there wasn't a single track that stood out.
Rescue Villiers Terrace
it's okay. idk nothing really stood out for me in this album
Det fanns potential men kändes platt
Lidt for 80’er skælvende klagerock
We did not need more than one Echo & the Bunnymen album on this list. This is nowhere near as good as the other.
Tedious
Reminds me of crowded house. Intro is interesting sonically. Jangly, generally too fast and muddy-sounding. British, post-punk, dark pop. Songs aren't grabbing me so far. Rescue wasn't bad. Second half feels better.
played this, thought it was alright in the moment, ir's now less than 12 hours later and i can't remember a single fuckin' thing about it. 2/5
No from me
U2 stole their whole flow
Not my thing, but literally sounds exactly like what “80s alternative” sounds like in my head
yeah nothing special
picks: do it clean, rescue
I have previously heard of the artist but not any material. This was just ok for me. The beginning of the first track had me excited that this would be something psychedelic and weird, but it never did go back to that. The whole album sounded the same to me, just sort of dark generic rock. Would not listen again.
Pretty boring
To be honest, the composition and everything is pretty good but this could not keep my attention
As I continue to try and catch up on more albums I missed in my 1001 albums to hear before I die list, I wanted to check out one recommendation I had saved up, Echo and The Bunnymen's debut album Crocodiles. If you are a fan of more alternative music with a bunch of weird singers and instrumentals that will make you both dance and stare off into your ceiling then this is for you. While I wouldn't call this a very strong project, it does stick to the sound it wants to have and feels very consistent from front to back with its' overall execution. There isn't much I really remember about this project in hindsight as it isn't a very remarkable song on this album, but it is enjoyable. Not super huge on this release as much as I would like to be, but I feel their later projects will win me over a lot more when I get to them.
I'm rating it 2 out of principle because 3 entries for this band is outrageous
Mostly bland until the last couple of tracks where they started leaning in the effects pedals and self indulgence more. I might listen to their later albums as they sound like they are going more into The Cult. 2.5 but rounded down to 2.
I’m getting a little board of noting my dislike of the 80s sound. It’s so bleak and joyless. I endured this more than most because they have a Scouse pass.
2.5
Didn't stand out to me. I was listening to "Happy Death Men" and thinking I kind of liked it - and then I realized I was the last song on the album. Too little too late.
Another album by this band. Still find it to be a bit boring. I guess it’s just not for me. 2/5 Won’t listen again
Buvo okay, nelabai išskirtinis. Kartais skambėdavo kaip Joy division.
I struggle to understand the fascination with this band 2*
2/5
Very british
It's alright, but it's it worth being here? I guess you had to be there back then to appreciate this. I never really liked the band, still don't after listening to this.
not great
meh
Repetitive, and a bit boring. On paper i should really like this but no songs really stood out to me.
The album cover conveys the music just right. Feels like somehow it melts together and it loses focus at times.
not really their fault that the whole genre of english post-punk just sounds like mud to me.
All I gotta say is thank god this was only a 38 minute album.
If this group comes up again they’re getting a 1-star. Fuck sakes…
Kolmas levy jo tältä bändiltä enkä vieläkään ole ihan sisällä.
The Cure light - very light.
The type of album I feel very uncool for not liking. The singing is too atonal, and the structure of the songs is unsatisfying to me. I'd like to be into Echo & The Bunnymen, but I'm not.
I just really don’t like post punk. Vocals are garbage, mixing is pedestrian, all the energy and passion from punk is ripped away and replaced with 80s cheese.
Just didn't click with this
I recognize this may be a meaningful album. But it’s not for me.
Wasn't very captured but not bad, would appreciate more on a second listen
This is the second EATB album I've gotten in three days. I didn't enjoy this one as much as I did 'Porcupine'. This album is a letdown melodically, vocally, and with the overall songwriting. Standout track: The Pictures on My Wall
perfectly OK at music but don't need to listen to and not a top 1001
Mjä. Låter som all annan rock. Egentligen helt ok men fy fabian vad osugen jag var på detta nu. Och någonsin. Tror jag.
Wanted to like this more.
This whole record sounded a bit like light punk without hooks, and everything sounded quite the same. Didn’t like the guitar sound particularly much either. Maybe I didn’t pay that much attention but this didn’t grab me.
Got this back to back with Technique by "New Order". I feel like I've already had my fill of New wave. Worth noting is that this album is very early for the sound it has which is pretty cool. That being said, I found it quite boring. Strong 2 star.
Never was a fan of 80s new wave..and this album reenforces that opinion. Seemed to get worse the deeper I got into it...
Not convinced
Potential there but I'd need more time with it I think
Not great
Ihan kivat Joy division -vibes, mut ne tekee sen hyvin, Echo sieluttomahkosti. Noh ehkä yhden armotähden annan, koska vaikka olin tylsistynyt, en vihannut.
Not as strong as their prior entry but not bad. I have to give The Bunnymen credit as it sounds like they established their sound pretty early. Even as a debut album I feel like it had a lot of their signature already included and it was pretty tightly produced. There wasn't much to take away from this listen as none of the songs really stood out. It wasn't a bad listen just mostly forgettable once I got through it. I'm not sure there's any reason for this to be on the list because it didn't appear to do anything different and didn't hold a candle to prior entry Ocean Rain. 1.97 stars
Well, I see the vision... but I didn't enjoy much the listen.
Monotonous
Meh
Nothing stood out, it was just some noise in my ears that I was mostly indifferent to.
#14 Crocodiles ~ Echo And The Bunnymen A fairly underrated rock band that emerged in the 80s, the debut of Echo And The Bunnymen borrows sounds somewhat similar to the works of other bands around the time, such as The Cure, Talking Heads and Siouxsie and the Banshees. The issues is that those bands have much more distinct styles: the echoey reverbs of Siouxse's later 'Juju' and the Cure's contemporary 'Seventeen Seconds', and the manic Eno-infused whirlwind of Talking Heads' 'Remain in Light'. Crocodiles sounds just very average. This is by no means a big at the band's competence. The music at its barest is tight and well-controlled. The lyrics are average, but the vocals are pretty great. No doubt this is a great band in the making, but they need a bit more edge out of their debut to might be worth considering listening to. But if you are already in love with bands under 'post-punk', I don't see why you should really dismiss this album. Verdict: pretty inoffensive
Self-important rehash of 60’s garage rock.
I continue to hate 80s music
menBunny boringKinda
Happy Death Man sounds like a Joker tattoo
It was completely tolerable. Absolutely zoned out while listening Fav song: Going Up (I guess?)
Didn't feel like I needed to listen to this one. Instrumentals were fine, but the vocal work just wasn't compelling.
Väldigt generisk typ modernistisk psychrock. Inte min kopp te, Happy Death Men var den enda jag reagerade på lyrics på…
Not a big fan.
Meh
A bit nothing really, just another album off the list, I wouldn’t listen to it again.
Just not my cuppa... Just find it all a bit bland.
It’s ok but not too memorable at least for first time listeners. They use semi tones a lot..but I don’t think this makes the album sound pleasant or any different. I can tell they must have put some efforts but it just didn’t work very well. The recording and production are a bit off for me as well. Simply stacking multiple sound tracks and put the reverb to the max won’t make it sound better. I could be wrong but this won’t be my personal choice..
standard brit rock. didn't really stand out to me, didn't strike me as something that is in the top 1001 albums of all time. but hey, what do i know.
Ok sound.
All the songs just blended together into an unappetizing mix.
1980. Not too noteworthy. Some gloomy post-punk Doors inspired sounds.
I feel like this was fine, but a little too "dark" for me. Its all the vocalist. The rhythms and Instrumentals are fun. I can't explain it but it did feel pretty repetitive. Like the songs had one idea that they just did for like 2.5 - 4 minutes. Idk...I can't explain it. This is a strong 2.5. "Do It Clean" was FUN tho. This album overall is just....average Liked Songs: "Do It Clean" , "Monkeys" , "Crocodiles" , "Rescue" , "Villiers Terrace"
This being Echo’s debut album does underpin the score. It’s not necessarily a bad album itself but when compared to what this band was later able to accomplish, this just doesn’t stack up. Every sound seems to be confined in a small space, there isn’t much variation to anything which makes this record feel repetitive.
Once again an album where the vocalist gets massively carried by a phenomenal band. At times the singing sounds like bad karaoke underneath layers of reverb. This put me off enough that I can't *quiiiiite* justify a 3. Solid project otherwise!
I've never listened to this band. I've always known about them but I guess I have just avoided them because I 'knew' I wouldn't like them. This is very Emo
Ok 2/5
..
2.5
My third album from Echo And The Bunnymen, and I'm tired of pretending the music sounds good. It doesn't. Sure, the energy and enthusiasm is kind of there, but the musicianship is definitely not. I don't actually have much to say after my reviews of Ocean Rain and Porcupine, particularly in the vocals. Claiming you're standing up against the "music elite" by creating (deliberately bad) punk/post-punk music is only a sound idea if you're actually good at playing your instrument. And nowhere is this rule broken more egregiously than in post-punk vocals. Echo & the Bunnymen is no exception. Tracks like Stars Are Stars and Crocodiles (the title track) are only listenable for their instrumentals – and nearly unlistenable for their untrained, out-of-tune singer. It's put through a sort of distant, metallic filter here, but rather than masking the poor singing (which would still be a bit damning), it just makes the music seem emptier and less passionate. In addition, within the tracks, there isn't much progression or change of moods. It feels a little disorganised and chaotic, yet still manages to be (energetically) monotone. Impressive, I guess. The dense guitar/synth sounds sometimes make up for the singing and push this record to a more reasonable 2 stars. But no higher. (I'm trying to understand what people see in the Bunnymen, I really am!) 2/5 Key tracks: Do It Clean, Rescue, Villiers Terrace
Meh, geen fan van Echo and the Bunnymen. Ik denk gewoon geen fan van new wave. 2.4
ersti drü songs etz afoch sochli standard post punk? nüt mega bsunders. ich han easy viel gschriebe und s het alles glöscht. album okay het mi nuuuuull berüehrt.

Ei helvetti mitä ränkytystä. Muutama kohtalainen yrityskin levyltä löytyy. Juuri ja juuri 2.
Semmosta rosoista brittirockia. On parempaa on huonompaa...
A sound of its time. But if it doesn't grip you, there's not a lot of there there.
Not really sure what to do with this album. I actually kind of like the genre, but this album didn't do much for me, and I can't even really be arsed to think about why.
Not really my jam.
echo and the boringmen :(
Meh... Could tolerate the album but would I listen to the album again? No.
80’s music
Song: rescue this song is good i like 80s songs there, but I have never heard this song so it is a little weird but i love to listen to it Song: do it clean this song is good again but i dont think i have heard of this song my dad likes to listen to these songs but it is good he mostly likes to listen to Spanish music when he is working and when he is in the car Song: Crocodiles this song is good again but kind of not my favorite but i would give this album like a 3 or 2 stars mostly 3 in my opinion
This is like the tenth album we’ve had that sounds like this. Some whinging bloke singing over some who cares music. Boring!!!
ALLIGATORS ARE BETTER THAN CROCS!!!!!!!! this was pretty shit ngl
Not terrible - not great though. Should it be in the top 1001? Maybe? Tough call. I'll say 2.5 - round down.
Not bad per se but did absolutely nothing for me. The only thing that stood out to me was the bass sound at times.
Meh
Ok. But same same
p457. 1980. 2 stars. Barely adequate Scouse New Wave. There are hints of the 13th Story Elevators, which is a good thing, but there's no real variety - once you've heard one track, you've heard 'em all. On the plus side, it's short.
I was pretty disappointed with this.
Reminds me of a more thrashy Talking Heads or something. The sound is okay but doesn’t do much for me. 4/10
Here’s another UK band that I never heard of, although I like their band name. Apparently they are still together. Every track on this album sounds similar to me, and not at all memorable.
Similar to Joy Division. I have enough Joy Division in my life.
Didn't love...
Familiar sounds but didn’t love it. It’s a little like Bowie at some parts. Reminded me of other sounds but couldn’t place it.
Meh. It was fine. Forgettable.
Totally forgettable
And yet another 80's brit post punk band. God they all sound the same, I gave up after the 4th samey track. Honestly, if not for the overload of this type of music in the list I'd probably give it a higher rating, but right now in the moment... 2/5 - this score is honestly more about the list than the album and band
Sounds like INXS
Yawn. Typical unexciting new wave
Like early Cure without any of the tunes.
Echo and the Bunnymen are shite. And Liverpool fans.
This album was okay. Some tracks were decent, but nothing I'd come back to. I wasn't a fan of the mix, and not a huge fan of any particular sound. And musically I really wasn't that into it.
Worth a listen - distinctly bunnymen sound - not their best and sounding a bit dated
#475. Nothing painfully bad, but nothing I'd be interested in hearing again either. 2/5: meh
Baselines are fun. Didn’t wow me. I think if his voice was different I’d have liked it more.
The other one was C tier Cure, this one wasn't even that interesting. Please god don't let this band come up again
The music was solid but it didn't feel like anything I hadnt heard before. Probably not one I would put on myself. The album mostly faded to the background while I was listening to it.
Do It Clean //
Not bad, easy listening and fun at times--no real standout tracks for me though
Third Echo and the Bunnymen album. I don't get why I don't vibe with these guys that much. Bit too samey. Not gothic/dark enough. Four albums remain.
Jesus Christ, more fucking punk.
It's not my thing. It sounds very early new wave, and I find that a bit boring.
I feel nothing when I listen to this.
A bit boring. Packed variety.
I like some of their albums but this one was really boring compared to the other ones..
There are simply too many of these albums on the list. Every song sounds the same.
There's a lot of interesting blends of genre & artist here. I hear a bit of Bowie, a bit of Smiths. It's just so bri ish. It isn't bad but it was kinda boring. Favorites were Crocodiles and Pride
It was ok but a bit boring
A bitta jangle. It's okay, high 2s.
A little interesting. The album seems to never quite get started, and a lot of the songs have the same issue. The lyrics seem dorm-room moody. I'm just not getting the vibe.
For goodness sake.
You gotta be in the mood to listen to a whole album of that voice, and I was not in the mood.
Rarely listen to the band but I enjoyed hearing this album for the first time.
ehhhh this was fine
Not amazing.
Well, I’ll give this my highest praise for an 80s punk rock album: I actually listened to most of it. Every song the same as the last which is pretty much like almost every other punk album of the early 80s. Yawn. Wasn’t interesting then, and less so now.
Albums like this make me want to quit doing this journey. It's been a rough streak of boring albums
I like the sound, albeit it’s not a particularly unique sound. It’s a bit early U2 one moment, a bit Joy Division the next, a bit Siouxsie and the Banshees the moment after that - a bit ‘a dozen other post-punk bands’, basically. And come to think of it, most of those bands would throw in a few great songs to add substance to the style; only about three songs on this album made any sort of an impression on me, and I’d say those were good rather than great. Think I’ve talked myself into knocking this down to a 2.5. Which fits, as I enjoyed Ocean Rain about half a star more.
i feel like Sisyphus except instead of rolling a boulder up a hill it's listening to mediocre new wave albums
80s jangle nonsense, without a single song I would rush back to hear again. Not for me
Terribly boring. Not sure what I'm missing.
Am I going off music or something? This had its moments but should it really be here?
3! That's how many albums this band has on this list. Are you as shocked as me? You should be. It would have been a 1 from me, if it wasn't for "Pride", which had a cool proto-grunge sound. How many shitty Echo songs did I have to sift through to find this one gem? 2 needles in a haystack out of 5
Nothing too special about this one, just a pretty run of the mill post punk album.
Punk Rock, 1980 -> 2
Ikke for mig..
Can't put how I feel to words
This has the elements to be something I would like, but just completely falls flat for me.
Just ok.
The last Echo album sounded like goth U2, this one sounded like goth The Doors. I don’t like The Doors.
Sorry, this just doesn't do anything for me. It isn't rubbish, but I just can't connect to this album.
Steady bass in the background, almost reminded me of the Oceans Eleven track periodically just not as enjoyable for me
Too teenage angsty.
Can see the appeal. Very postpunk Brit (harder edge to it tho) but it didn’t grab me.
Fine but very samey - nothing stood out to me. Won’t be listening to it again.
Interesting to hear the influence on a lot of modern bands, but didn't really keep my attention.
unfortunately, post-punk often sounds all the same to me. this album is no exception :/
Not interesting to me honestly
I can't really put a finger on why this felt so unenjoyable
All right band + music, didn’t need to hear before I croak. Like 80% of this list
Another post punk record that just didn't grab me. Influential, but not fully baked into what the genre would become.
not my thing
This left absolutely no impression
"Going Up" and "Do It Clean" were the standouts here. The rest all sounded exactly the same. That got old rather quickly. The two songs that I really liked were the first two on the album. I wonder if the song order had been different, if I would have liked whichever songs had been 1-2.
I wanted to like this but it’s new wave and not good.
This aint it
My favorites in order: -the name of the band -the name of the album - - -the music
Oh, so THIS is what bad punk sounds like. It’s just new wave music
Not so interesting.
Nameless standard 80s rock
Höchstens Durchschnitt, austauschbar, kein Wiedererkennungseffekt! 2/5
Honestly not a single song stood out. It was an inoffensive and beige album for me, I almost liked some of the songs initially and then they wouldn't go anywhere with it, or the singing would start and mess up what the guitar was doing for me.
This was an alright album, nothing really stuck out to me Top tracks: Crocodiles
Beige as fuck.
It was fine, but nothing particular jumped out at me. 2.5
I’ve had a few albums that sounded kind of like this style, and I think I’m just not a fan on this style of 80s music. I think it is the excessive reverb/chorus on the guitars and the drums that sound like those terrible electronic pad drum kits. It isn’t terrible, but I’m not into it. 2/5.
Not in a great mood for this oh well
This was very mediocre. I liked it but there was nothing that really jumped out at me, respectfully.
Not my kinda jam but ok. High 2.
Run of the mill. Not interesting.
I usually like New Wave, so I'm surprised I didn't like this album! I think it's because every song sounded similar, no one song really stood out to me.
I've only ever liked "I want to be there" from echo and the bunnymen
Their name and their music does not correlate.
Forgettable
Standard 2/5. Wasn't shite but won't listen to it again.
Never really thought much of these guys or their sound. I was solid in the hard punk sound, and felt these guys were not terribly unique to the genre. Pop Punk? Slow Punk? Glam Punk. Wasn’t for me, and I’m stuck there.
Second album by this band. How? They aren't that good of a group. It was relatively short but nothing stood out. It wasn't bad but not great. This kinda there. Not really a 2, definitely not a 3. I will round down.
I'm undecided on this genre. Just meh 2.5
Nothing really caught my attention but nothing bothered me either 2.5
The vocals leave much to be desired. The chord changes are predictable. The guitars are just basic strumming. It's not interesting enough to be considered progressive rock. But it's not catchy enough to be considered pop either. It's like the worst of both worlds: weird and not catchy or interesting. Another album where I'm not sure why or how it ended up on this list.
Kinda boring
just average nothing special things, but at the same time, nothing offensive, completely average
This was alright, nothing really grabbed me but didn't mind listening to it. 2.5
Think this was fine but just had nothing for me. Completely passed me by. Fave track: Do it Clean
Purple Haze Hey Joe The Wind Cries Mary Foxey Lady
Not completely disgusting, but close to
