Reviews (page 7 of 14)
Some killer some filler.
It truly made you think about making the most of your life, whilst also making you think you were about to drop the best skateboarding tape of the 90s. A fantastic album with great drums and similarly good bass work. Definitely worth the listen.
Pretty good slightly prefer American idiot but still bangs
Actually really good, will listen again
Great album, very much part of my party days.
This album was everywhere, tons of hits that brought punk to the mainstream.
Classic
I should hate this. It's everything I've ever claimed to stand against in music: repetitive, simplistic, radio-friendly, and as long as I've heard Billy Joe Armstrong, I've hated that stupid fucking stuffy-nose voice. But it was awesome. All of those things above are true, but also if you turn the volume up to 11, I could win any fucking bar fight in the whole front range. Vibes. Fave songs: - Burnout - Having a Blast - Chump - Longview - Welcome to Paradise - Basket Case - She - Coming Clean - In the End - F.O.D. - All by Myself
How can you not like it. I mean they even put it in Surf's Up (2007).
Yeah, Green Day is great! They have a unique and recognizable sound and I enjoy them very much. I like his voice and the way the instrumentals sound in a rock music context. Welcome to Paradise is always nostalgic to me.
Good one
90s classic
This album was all the rage when I was in 5th grade. The hits are genuine bangers abd the songwriting is strong throughout.
Nice punk rock
Whyyy had I never listened
All by myself at the very end of the album was hilarious it was obviously a joke. But this album kicked ass. It had a lot of hits basket case, welcome to paradise, when I come around. Over all very good. Loved the power chords on with complicated drum parts over top.
Some pretty cool pop punk. For the most part, the tracks outside of the hits are just solid, but the hits are great. The drumming is great, and the guitars and vocals serve the songs well.
something to play while doing straight cocoaine
fresh sound that reflects the beginning of a new punk that would have mixes with pop and derivatives
4/5. Великий поп-панк для тех, кто соскучился по веселому поп-панку.
immaculate vibes
At the time this sounded absolutely glorious
Foundational pop punk, love
Oh buddy! An absolute classic! Dookie is an album that channels youthful angst and restlessness into a collection of energetic and catchy pop punk anthems. Mom and Dad will never understand. It’s a record that never gets old and will forever feel relevant for generations to come. I'll never tire listening to this album! Nothing but bangers from this album! The drums and those bass lines 💯👌💯
green day innit.
I feel like everyone had this album when it came out. At the time, all the rocker kids thought it was cool to hate Green Day for “selling out.” But the truth is, they left their indie label on good terms and simply blew up, and I feel like there’s no way an indie label could’ve taken them further after the first two albums. This was pop-punk at its best: polished, fun, and catchy. Too many people associate that polish with being fake, but Green Day has always been true to themselves. Dookie wasn’t a betrayal of punk - it was an entry point. It brought punk rock into the mainstream, and for a whole generation it was the first step down a rabbit hole of discovering indie punk bands that influenced them. I love this album. It’s fun, it’s raw in its own way, and it deserves all the love for opening the door to punk for so many.
Yep. It's Green Day.
"Basket Case" +++ "Longview" ++ "Welcome to Paradise" +
New punk master!!
1. Basket Case 2. She 3. Pulling Teeth
Not the best but still good
Like many sensitive young men, I had a pop punk phase, and listening to this you really do see the genesis of that, thematically as much as anything. This must have absolutely blown you away if you were like, 10 years older than me. Some really good tunes, lot of filler imo, gets more points due to defining a genre I listened to a lot of at 13 and thus cannot bring myself to hate.
This is a really good album. All the pop punk you hear on the radio these days? This is the album that broke down those doors. This is the original, and the best.
A pop punk classic. A banger from start to finish. Highlights are album opener Burnout, She, of course Welcome to Paradise and All By Myself.
Maybe the launch of pop-punk? Guitars and Billy Joe's vocals suggest punk, but bass makes it fun and very listenable. Familiar tunes that received heavy airplay, but they don't grow old. Each track short and formulaic, as though intended as a single.
This might be the first album recommendation I've gotten that I've already listened to in full before. It came out when I was a toddler, so most of my memory of it comes much later, when my sister and I were in middle school and she would play random albums her friends had burned for her on her stereo. Funny how well I can remember that part of it, especially since I haven't really listened to it much recently. It really fits the pop punk description well. The instrumentation has the punk-rock aspect, but the song structures and composition are pretty poppy. Where grunge and alt rock dominated the early 90s, often with compounding noise or intricacy, Green Day simplified their music in an intentional, guided way that didn't neatly fit into either of those other categories while also sitting somewhere between punk and pop. Interestingly, I found it to have an almost Irish-folk-protest quality to it. Something about the vocal inflection and presentation just makes that connection in my brain. Lyrically, it is punk in a different way than that had previously meant. Punk music started with a very proactive nature; it was "damn society and stick it to the man" at its core, full of momentum and attitude to get out in one way or another. Here, it takes the form of a passive movement. Yeah, still damn society and the man, but like, I'm just going to smoke weed, watch TV, and jerk off about it. Rather than going at it with a fight, doing nothing is my protest. Maybe writing some songs with clever lyrics if I feel like it. Slackerism was at the core of Green Day's punk mindset. Putting it all together, they came up with Dookie. It's definitely not dookie, but something fun and memorable. So many of the tracks have stuck in my head for the last couple decades and still hold up. While only a few really are close to great songs, the vast majority are good. A couple weaker tracks here and there don't bring it down too much. Maybe (OK, probably) I'm a bit biased by nostalgia and personal experience on this one, but I found it to be a pretty good album. It's got a lot to offer for how simple it can be. Some of it's dumb, some of it's bad, some of it is forgettable. But much more of it is good than not. Overall: 3.75/5
Cool, some songs sound very similar. Whole album a vibe, the songs that stood out rlly stood out. Will be listening again
Today I looked back at the list of previously reviewed albums. I noticed that so far there are only a handful of albums with a global rating of 4 or higher. I expect Green Day to score high as well. I'm going for a...
Basket Case, When I Come Around....Always bring back memories.
i’ve never actually listened to this in full, only the hits but i enjoyed all the other songs a lot
This is what made me a Green Day fan.
One of the best punk albums of the 90s. Banger after banger after banger
Pretty decent pop-punk. Pulling Teeth is a good one and not even really punk. Sandwiched between Welcome to Paradise and Basket Case you might not even notice its just a boy band song. I appreciate their adherence to the Ramone's style of punk where the songs are just a few minutes long, so even if there is a song that isn't quite as good as the others like Sassafras Roots comes along, it is quickly passed and on to a banger like When I Come Around. Plus they just give you time to look at the Mad Magazine style album cover, lots to look at! Not many soft spots in the apple like that though, consistently high quality.
He aqui.
On of the defining albums of a generation. One of the first that fit the pop punk genre. Proud that they’re from the Bay Area.
Fun high energy album. Definitely will listen to more green day after this
Great angsty youth album. Driving guitar, drums that pop, and iconic lyrics.First few songs feel like fill though I do love that drum sound. That run in the middle is incredible. Welcome to Paradise makes me want to jump. The reflective FOD is a nice change of pace.
I was living in San Francisco and going to a lot of East Bay shows (Berkeley Square RIP) when this came out, and, for better or worse, this record is a snapshot of what the scene was like. This is definitely closer to what club shows sounded like than two other bands that came out of that time period and region, Third Eye Blind and Train. I don't think I've listened to this from front to back since the late 90s, but it was a pleasant return. I preferred "The Mr. T Experience," but that's a story for another time.
Trop bien! Ça m’a fait archi plaisir de retrouver cette énergie!
Not a big pop punk guy but I found this a remarkably easy listen. Most tracks are hooky and memorable, not a lot of filler and if a track isn't hitting the spot its usually only about 2 minutes long anyway. Love the drum breaks on Burnout. Welcome to Paradise is sick. Obviously the big hits are big hits for a reason. Not an album i would necessarily have on repeat, its not very musically diverse and really sticks to its lane. However, what it does it does well. Lyrics are fine, some funny stuff. Probably relatable if I was 10/15 years younger. Younger me would have ate this up in fact. Favourite track - Welcome to Paradise. 7.5/10
Fun pop punk
I love this album. I could say more, but I just love it. Reminds me of 8th grade and 9th grade and being telling my friend I couldn't take the album home because I thought my mom would get mad about it.
I bought this when it was new. I still like it. They could have skipped the last song and the hidden track and I don't like When I Come Around very much, otherwise great album. Favorite song: Longview.
4.2 3x childhood clasic
Still such a blast. It's a perfect line between dumb fun and angst. Some songs don’t stick as hard as the radio smashes, but it moves fast. Big angsty teen spirit in the best way. Saw them on the Dookie/American Idot tour in 2024. Not as refined or ambitious as American Idiot, but that’s not really the point, is it? Spins: 2 Playlist Additions: - Longview - Welcome To Paradise - Basket Case - She - When I Come Around
I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy this album. I’ve actually seen Green Day live but I was too young to appreciate it. This album rocks!
Liked it a lot
I remember when I first heard Green Day, I thought “yeah this is ok but they will be gone soon.” I never thought Green Day would stick around as long as they have, let alone be super popular. What I underestimated is how catchy some of these tunes are. Yeah, it could be classified as punk, with all of these short, fast-burn songs. But there's a certain appeal to their music that hits closer to mainstream rock in a way that a lot of other punk rock bands do not. Things I liked about this: - It's full of fun, well-constructed songs. I liked how some songs blended into others (e.g. Chump into Longview) - Billie Joe's signing has never been great to me, but given the style, he certainly adds to the songs. - There were a lot of things I heard while listening to this on headphones that I never picked up on the radio, especially in Welcome to Paradise. - The lyrics are good and not random / aimless like some of what I have heard from their contemporaries on this list from the other side of the pond. BTW, All By Myself was just a disturbing closer. That's all I'll say! Their still not going to be a band I really turn to regularly, and until today, I've not had any of their music in my own personal library. That said, this changed today after listening to this album, as there is no doubt that they have some fun/cool songs and that this is an excellent record.
Energetic and fun
Great album
One of my favorite albums from when I was young. It was one of the first CDs I bought for myself and it was one of the first live shows that I went to. I still remember the sound guys testing out the kick drum before any of the openers even came out. I could feel it in my body. I was instantly hooked on live shows. Several big hit songs but they are all catchy to me and have a special place in my heart. Green Day was one of my first musical loves and I still really enjoy it.
very chill, soothing even good to have in background, wish id paid more attention solid 4

green day being fun as always
Pop-punk isn't normally my cup of tea, but Green Day is the exception. A really fun listen of some now-classic songs. I prefer American Idiot, though!
Never owned it but my brother had a dubbed cassette tape so I was well aware of this album in my youth. It's only vaguely familiar now some 30 years later. Not much of it stuck apart from the singles and of course, All By Myself.
American Idiot was "my" Green Day album growing up. I knew the singles from this record, but didn't really listen to it. That said, knew this was gonna be a banger because this album is half singles. Not quite as good as American Idiot for me (but that is also partly due to nostalgia goggles), but you know this thing is special during the transition from Chump to Longview. It goes from a decent punk record to a classic in that instant. When you have Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case and When I Come Around all on the same record, you're getting something great. And along with Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers, I'll die on the hill that Tré Cool is one of the most underrated drummers of all time.
Great album. I’m not really into punk, but I still enjoyed listening to this one. Very tight band, and there were some basslines I really liked.
Standouts Longview Welcome to Paradise Basket Case She When I Come Around
I always liked this album
Idk it was fine
repetitif
I kinda hate green day
Bon album avec des sonorités néo punk a écouter...fort 🤪
Æ kan skjønne koffor folk like det, sjøl om det ikke e helt for mæ, men det e jo på ingen måte fraskrekkanes. Bare ikke helt min sjanger.
ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVES. THE ENERGY. THE VIBES ARE EVERYTHINGGG In the End is one of my favourite songs ever as well!! unfortunately this couldnt receive 5 stars tho, as it lacks the sheer 'musicality' of a perfect album, so i had to give it 4 stars (rounded down from a 9/10) However i was sooo happy to get this (especially as it's only my 2nd day)
Amazing
Absolute classic and still their best, in my opinion
Truly a classic pop punk album. Green Day reinvented the wheel a bit on this one, and by that I mean they took pop punk, revolutionized it, and made it radio friendly with the poppiness. This album was inescapable, even in the early 2000s. Billy Joe Armstrong is a true brat on this album in the best way. Funnily enough because of the way he sang, I always thought Green Day was british or some shit. California accents be like. Could just be an autistic take tho. Genuinely proper pop punk songwriting that essentially set the precedent for the genre and the example for years to come. Often imitated, never truly replicated. Fast, snappy, catchy, snotty, attitude loaded bangers. I sound like a boomer but that's what this album is. It's a really fuckin good time. The standouts are obviously better songs than the majority of the album but they're all still pretty good pop punk tracks. This is like a peak high school album. Youthful rebellious antics type shi. Memorable. Loud. Dare I say, obnoxious. Dookie was a perfect name for this album.
Poppy punk master class. Insanely catchy riffs and vocal performances, unmatched in its genre.
En haug med bangers. Sterkeste skiva til Green Day med god margin. Samtidig er jeg ikke like helfrelst for bandet som jeg var i 2006.
I had no idea Basket Case was 7th on the album. I like this type of skater punk and know this was a pretty influential album in its time, but I'm surprised at how many of the songs sound so similar, especially toward the beginning of the album. Great album, even if it isn't the most musically or technically advanced.
A very good album. I like pop punk, they know how to make exceptional pop punk albums. They are the definition, revolution, and evolution of the genre. And we all know they can do better. So 4 for this one!
Basket Case, She, Longview, Welcome to Paradise, and When I Come Around all being on the same album is just insane. The Green Day sound is present through this entire go, but it’s such a stellar album. There isn’t much variety, but you don’t need it. All in all, great listen.
It always shocks me how old Green Day is. Some great bangers on this album that I didn’t realize were this old. I feel like Green Day doesn’t always get the recognition they deserve but like their “sound” honestly is what I imagine as the sound of the 2000s
Yay Green Day :) Already had a few songs from this album that I liked but I have now developed an appreciation for a few more. Best song: Basket Case Notable(s): Longview, Welcome to Paradise, When I Come Around, Coming Clean
This is Jay's favorite album, I can hear the influence in what he writes and records on our tracks from this. I've never actually listened to this from start to finish until just now. I am familiar with the hits. An incredibly well polished and refined punk album(kind of an oxymoron). I'm curious who produced it.
Goes down smooth, but most of the album is not remarkably interesting. Longview - Welcome to Paradise - Basket Case make it all worthwhile, though. Feels like a 90s-ified Monkees album (compliment).
It’s not American Idiot but it’s close.
feisty poppy punk, very well executed
Dookie is funny, exuberant, catchy, self-deprecating, easy to sing along to, and what's more important, it's a genuine generational cry.
Loved it! Made me a fan of Green Day.
A visceral nostalgia, but I think this may have been the first time I listened to the whole album. Interesting to think about the bands that followed the "pop punk" path set down by this album. I've been threatening myself for years to do a deep dive on punk between say, Velvet Underground to Green Day, but until now I had not considered following the actual line of influence of this album. Funny, talented kids putting on a lot of attitude. Hard to beat.
yeah pretty good. some solid hits on here and it’s no surprise why green day is popular. i like the album cover too. 4/5.
Pretty good album here. Has some range but still brings good punk from start to finish.
I don’t really want to like this album but I kinda do. Its too clean and polished to be a good punk album and too fast and loud to be a good pop album… but thats what makes Dookie, and Green Day’s sound following it, so unique. Their blend of pop and punk better than any other pop punk band out there.
In the top 3 for Green Day albums, lots of good songs on this one.
I respect their selling out. Seriously, they broke out with the record contract, but maintained their punk roots and still a unique sound. Not exactly Dylaneasque in their lyrics, but I don't need that for punk. Oh, and this is a very good album.
Dookie is colllege 1994. It was everywhere. I was in love with the Smashing Pumpkins so I didn’t care. I’ve since given it my attention and I like it even if it is simpler and a little samey throughout. Longview has always been my favorite. Welcome To Paradise doesn’t hold up for me. When I Come Around sounds like frat parties. This is a good, not great, album. I have far more love for Green Day’s follow up album, Insomniac, which is a 5.
Green Day is always a good time! They just rock out and create a fun environment while singing about all the angsty, anxiety-inducing things felt by the youth of the 90s. Hard not to love. There are so many great hits on here. I wasn’t as enamored with the non-hits and I do think American Idiot is a better album, but this is still a near 5.
I grew up with this album. It is damn near perfect.
DOOKIE. nonie dureglost aber seg so ihren durchbruch? erste song kurz knackig reeecht geil. übergang vo chump zu longview suuuper ind denn de bassriff geeeil. rieeeese banger longview. welcome to paradise au seehr geil was mached d vocals im refrain hööö. jaaa basket case ja basket case jaaa baaanger kei ahnig nöd viel z sege meeega high energy es goht so lang bises abgoht s fill wo d drums inechömed isch sooo geil. emenius sleepus au seehr funny irgendwie. in the end macht voll wiiter ihri zweistimmige refrains mached so spass ich ha würkli r sehr gueti ziit gad. guets geburialbum. lieb au de tre cool sini 16tel sind sooo cool und er spielt immer füree. es isch scho nöd jeeede song en banger aber die unbeschwertheit und spass wo sie überebringed isch sooo asteckend. viere oder füfi ich entscheid morn morge.

I like their newer stuff better but this was so good. So many classics.
They hit just at the right time. Some undeniable hits here. Pop/Punk, Clash Lite, but not bad. A solid first album for a band that has really carved out their niche.
More pop than punk, diet rebellion for the mildly disaffected. And some absolute, bonafide classics.
Альбом в духе группы, нормал
Best sort of Dookie
3.8 - Enjoyed, good fun
I would skip the first two songs and go Chump into Longview to start the album - I like the clean track transition. There are some good pop rock songs here but Basket Case does kinda blow everything else out of the water. Fave Tracks: Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case 3.7/5
One of my favorite albums growing up. Would listen to this constantly on my Walkman in the bus. Sadly didn't hold up as much as I remember. Going 4 but likely deserves 5
Back to back four stars. Please keep it rolling 🙏🏼
Nostalgia, and I'm not ashamed to score as such. Still holds up, but probably pulling from those fond adolescent memories.
Album name: Dookie. Album quality: not dookie
Me singing When I Come Around with the lyrics of Be Our Guest quite annoyingly
Been 25+ years since I had listened to this album. It was popular with classmates when it came out. I appreciated different genre's of music at the time and never really listened to this one. Would listen to again (being my criteria for a 4).
Not a big Green Day guy but this has some good tracks. Nice nostalgia.
Just fun really. Feels very care-free and kiddish, I think anyone can enjoy the hits on here really. Generally pretty good.
Not a bad album, plus a star for the pure nostalgia of it.
Good album. Enjoyable listen.
Riktigt bra grejer!
Dude, is fricken dookie. Stef said it should be a10 out of 10. She didn't listen to it though. I did.. all by myself.
Jó félchill lemez
Pretty classic pop rock sound. I like it, lyrics are pretty good, but it’s a bit too basic for me, and kind of just monotone with some variation sometimes.
4.5. Trying to not have too many 5 stars but this could easily be one.
I like it, generally a good album. The songs particularly would probably require time to become playlist staples, but I can definitely see the potential.
Сначала было максимально скучно, а потом даже удовольствие получил
another to the list of albums heard through my brothers bedroom wall. I remember as a kid looking at the cover art and trying to see all the literal shitflinging. This is the Green Day I'm most familiar with. The singles off this album still hit, Longview, When I Come Around, and Basket Case are still in rotation today, The rest of the album is still good, but doesnt reach those highs. I remember my brother leaving the room and All By Myself played, being creeped out by it, I told my brother about it and he said no such song exists as he showed me the track listing. As I've aged I learn that it was a secret track and I'm not insane or haunted.
I don’t like punk music but this was some good pop punk!
This shit went crazy when i was 14
Favs: when I come around, she, basket case, Longview. AMAZING DRUMS!! Big big fan
I always avoided Green Day because I thought they were like hippie punk rock with no meaning. This album really opened some doors for me, really creative and interesting and no I'm in a rabbit hold of Green Day albums. Entertaining stuff
Очень классный альбом, динамика, детали, тут есть все что нужно, но понравилось не все треки.
As someone that only experienced the nineties as a toddler, this is totally what I consider the soundtrack of the decade. That raw, pre-pubescent energy you got as a teenager when the world was yours and you didn’t give a fuck. All distilled into 40 minutes of peak pop punk. Personally, I think I like the songs individually more than the complete package. Punk, whether in the pop variety or not, tends to create repetitive albums and Dookie isn’t really an exception. But that’s honestly a nitpick and in general, it’s hard to ignore the impact this album had for the band and music in general. It’s make me feel like a nineties kid… even if I remember literally nothing from it. Favorite track: When I Come Around Other hits: Basket Case, Welcome to Paradise, She, Longview, Burnout
Love this album
Now this is good shit, Maybe its just nostalgia though
A lot of bangers I didn't realize were on the same album, and didn't realize this was Green Day's major debut album. Definitely an introduction of a unique sound to the scene. Some of the harmonies and vocal patterns sound Beach Boys reminiscent sometimes.
took like 3 songs to get good. a little unremarkable (might as be because it's my first time listening, I will get used to them) but I enjoyed most of the tracks. pulling teeth continues to be my fav song from the tracklist even after finishing the whole album.
A good listen. There's definitely some bangers in here, but also some fairly mid tracks. Fun instrumentals and vocal work here and there. 'Basket Case' was my fave.
Eigentlich ist Punk ja nicht so meine Stilrichtung, aber das hat was
Dobry, klasika
The one-two punch of Longview and Welcome to Paradise rips
So of its time and still so relevant.
Genuinely great
Still great at 36
Blast from my teenage past, so probably a bit biased by that, but still a very cool pop/skate punk record!
I'm not that big Green Say fan but both their albums from this list are pretty great and quite different from each other. This one, their breakout record, is a staple of pop punk and has basically defined the genre since its release. There's not much to it musically, actually, it's all very simple and straightforward. Perfect music to turn your brain off to. Key tracks: Burnout Longview Basket Case When I Come Around
A lot of the songs are very similar but there are few that are excellent pop-punk-emo songs that seem to have preceded modern emo that I enjoy
Burnout 4 Having a Blast 4.1 Chump 4.1 Longview 4.2 Welcome to Paradise 4.3 Pulling Teeth 3.8 Basket Case 4 She 3.8 Sassafras Roots 4 When I Come Around 4.2 Coming Clean 3.6 Emenius Sleepus 3.5 In the End 3.5 F.O.D. 3.3 Score: 3.885714286
I sin genre är detta en suverän skiva. Sen kan jag tycka att den här typen av poppig punk tenderar att bli lite långtråkig över en hel skiva, men oavsett har denna så många bra låtar att betyget blir en fyra åt det starkare hållet.
Love me some green day. This album and nimrod were in heavy rotation as a kid.
Never really realized until just now just how great the bass sounds on this album. Brings it from good to great!
This album holds significance to me. When this record came out I was 12 years old and it was a staple at the time. There was girl that was the neighbor to my best friend. Her Mom was dating the neighbors Dad. She was from another town and went to another school so she didn't know what a dweeb I was so she would hang out with us/me. I remember she had come over to my friend's house and we listened to the album in his room. She had this perfume that smelled like coconut that was popular at the time but I don't recall the brand. She really loved the song "She" so we had that on repeat. Later we watch Pet Sematary Two, it was awful but the girl and I weren't paying much attention. We were cuddled up together and I was all in my adolescent feels. Once the movie ended my friend and I walked her home, it was cold outside and she had a thin coat. Me being a gentleman gave her my Charlotte Hornets starter jacket to wear. Once we got to her place she pulled me in and kissed me, my first real kiss tongue and all. I stood there petrified not knowing what to do, butterflies fluttering. It was brief but memorable and embarrassing now. She gave me back my coat and it smelled like her for weeks. I would play Dookie on a loop for the next couple weeks. Eventually she made friends that went to my school and she attended for one day. The friends she made were the popular girls and it didn't take long for her to find out I was not very cool and broke up with me that day. I was crestfallen. That said, I can't hear this album without thinking about that brief moment in time. Not that she hurt me cause I wasn't cool enough, hell I knew I wasn't cool and she might be out of my league. It was the kiss and the smell of her.
I never listened to this album fully. Growing up as a millennial you were either green day or blink 182 camp. I was in the latter. Skipping the singles cause everyone's heard them. I did really enjoy Warning and parts of American idiot. So far the standouts are: Chump, Sassafras roots, She, emenius sleep, f.o.d,
was talking to someone tdy and they referred to green day among other rock bands (i.e. radiohead, blur) from this era as loser rock, and i couldn't have said it better myself i love loser rock
some great songs but a bit samey
Tre Cool is such an underrated drummer. This was never my favorite GD album but the less major songs really grew on me this listen
Easily prefer this to American Idiot. Better songwriting, less obnoxious, not about Bill Clinton. Just a solid pop punk album.
En stabil powerpop/ punkpop som jag och dottern lyssnar på tillsammans.
Banger after banger. And a few non-singles I don't think I've ever heard. But what a great launch of a career. Super good. And the bonus track is ridiculous.
Have listened to this off and on for many many years. Still hits it when I'm in the right mood!
Симпатично, но ничего особо не зацепило
Nostalgia bomb holds up
Wall to wall bangers.
Very fun American poo punk rock
Basket case is an absolute banger
very excited to see this one come up green day certainly took an awful turn. there was a point when you could not escape "lonely road." But that doesn't exist right now. This album is a moment of eternal summer. Adolescent pre-rebellion. Aggravated annoyance. The whole essence of being bored in your house while your parents are at work and all the things that go climbing through your head. my very first experience with this album was through a friend of mine. Instead of doing anything at school he would fill up notebooks with song lyrics. Sometimes he would give them to me. My parents found the scrawl of Longview in my backpack and I got in trouble. i listened to so much punk rock in high school. In the purity of that subculture i didn't allow myself to enjoy the simple pleasure of green day. they were too commercial and the music wasn't hard enough. I reformed my ways and came around to this album later in high school. damn i feel happy listening to this music. It's a little bit of pop and a little bit of punk but no so much of that combination that it becomes cloying. it's just really easy to listen to. I want to Karaoke Basket Case right now. i'm giving this album a 4. i just like the way it makes me feel.
listened to this for the first time at matt clark's house in probably the fifth grade, all sweaty from riding our bmx bikes around the neighborhood. he had a mark brunell jersey on. we were eating those little chalk candy cigarettes, gobbling them like wood chippers. first riff i learned on guitar was "brain stew." not on this record, but of note. grew apart from green day through high school and tuned way out by the time they hit the american idiot/eyeliner phase. not bc of the message; it just read as a lame and desperate attempt at relevance from old dudes. little black outfits and suspenders and ties. punk twee with fauxhawks. the music didn't resonate with me at the time. i was into my classic rock phase, worshipping the who and zeppelin. i liked my dudes long haired and barechested and sepia toned, not looking like my weird awkward cousin at my great aunt's funeral. burnout makes apathy and immaturity fun, something to strive for. chump gets more interesting at the middle of song; the drum and bass bit with the ringing triplet chords and the excellent transition into longview. good bassline and great interaction of all three instruments. a song about apathy, watching tv, and masturbating. a winner. welcome to paradise. i like this song a lot. love how he starts singing the title in the chorus half a second before the instruments come back, the descending backing vocals. bass solo. pulling teeth. 50s style rock n roll singalong. love it. the middle of this record kicks. great guitar tone on the solo. basket case has such a killer chorus. was this on a THPS game? "she" comes dangerously close to boring power chord country until the scream and the guitar tone change. bring that baby forward in the mix boys. sassafras roots. the bass saves it, but not my favorite. it's a song. good question chorus. we still slacking, but real fast. when i come around. god that's a great song. bounces along. a real guitar riff, unlike the last song. bass ducking and weaving around under it. good slow short ringy guitar solo. in the end. drum and bass grab my attention again. FOD. nice acoustic into electric.
This album came out when I was 7. I don't think I was really aware that this band existed til American Idiot came out in 2004 and ruined everyones lives. Atleast it felt like that to me at the time. Nothing about being blasted all over MTV and the Billboard charts and 35 years old with eyeliner felt punk at all. I digress. This album art is awesome. It's burned into my psyche. This is meant to be listened to on 10. Shit is catchy. Dookie is a funny word. Makes be yearn for the 90s CHUMP rolls right into LONGVIEW really seamlessy, not really something I expected from a punk album. LONGVIEW is a killer track. I'm not acquainted enough with punk to apprecite this record fully or to properly hate on it. light 4.
The instrumental was amazing, only downside is that the vocals were more often than not very quiet compared to the instruments and I personally don’t like that.
It's a fun album with some great pop-punk songs, lacks a bit of variety from one song to the next but it's got great energy throughout
very nostalgic, a classic fo suuure
Soundtrack of 1994.
i know that many don’t consider green day to be real punk music, throwing around the term “pop punk” almost as a perjorative, but the punk genre was never really meant to have mass appeal. by definition, if a band can sell over 20 million copies of one album (as this album has), it has popular appeal. this album and this band are pop punk, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. it’s a fun album that definitely has punk elements, but it would be a mistake to label this as merely “punk” without also attaching “pop” to it.
Man it's been awhile since I've listened to this. Back in high school I was more into Green Day's 2000s stuff but I think its time for me to admit that this is better than "American Idiot". It really captures that 90s sleaze! Favorite track: Longview
People describes "Dookie" as "Adolescence: The Album". and as a adolescent, i think they are right. 4/5
Punk rock. Pretty good, doesn’t quite reach the same heights as American Idiot, still a jammer throughout.
I mean, it's Dookie. I get why this record has garnered the attention it has, and I'd give it an easy 5 if I were ranking based on influence. I do think there's better stuff out there, even in Green Day's own discography and it's got to be said it's a rather static record, it just does what it does really really well.
YES! Haven't listened to this one in a hot minute.
Hasn’t listened to this one in ages. There are some big hits, but also some average stuff mixed in. Didn’t hold up as well as I might have predicted, but at this point I’m also far from the target age for this. If I put myself back in that time and age I can feel the thrill of it. At this point for me it’s a 3.5, but I can remember when it meant more than that.
Some great hits and high points, even if the rest kinda blends together a bit.
The mainstream pop-punk classic. Overplayed in its day, but still a fun listen.
Partially listened before Favourite tracks: Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Having a Blast
Who knew the better part of an album could be written about masturbation.
Still a great album.
Nice I mean basket is the best which is why it’s one of their number songs but I can’t remember the other songs so I wouldn’t say it’s notable to me.
Upbeat and fun with a heavy sound, Dookie might just be the shit.
My kids got me the Dookie CD for Father's Day 30 years ago, I believe. Thankfully I don't think they understood some of the lyrics. And I like the album better now than way back when. I am going to round up to a 4.
I don’t like punk rock, but if I had to listen to one punk record, it would be this one. Billie Joe’s singing saves it for me — it’s melodic and not shouty. Doesn’t hurt that this is the first album I ever owned!
Iconic album and album title. It’s not a 5 because I’m not playing this music for my enjoyment, I’m listening to it like I look at art in a museum.
peak fun summery juice
I liked it
Bueno
This takes me back to high school. Just a fun record with a lot of energy and you get the sense that everyone had a blast making this.
The background music to my life in middle school. Absolute classic album that helped to put punk back in the mainstream and start my lifelong love for the genre. A solid inclusion on this list
Quintessential punk rock album
Great ass album!
If not the most innovative stuff out there, it sure is a fun listen. It starts out with a bang and never stops — to the point that my ears were craving some breathers in between.
Rock was in a weird place in the 90's. Just to make sure, I read through the biggest albums up until Dookie. There were some last gaps of the hair scene, some big albums from established acts like REM, U2, Billy Joel, and Aerosmith, but it was mostly just grunge. It dominated rock for three years so solidly that the only new acts in the genre with a major album that I could find were the Red Hot Chili Peppers, 4 Non Blondes, the Cranberries and Melissa Etheridge. It seemed like the only answer to grunge was Lilith Fair. Which makes this album a big deal. It's apparently the biggest selling punk album ever, and helped to give an alternative to grunge in mainstream rock, to the point that the next decade was a clash of post-grunge and pop punk. Is it good, though? Yeah. There's three rock staples on the album, and the rest of the album is more of the same. It does grate on me after a while, and I wish it would mix the sound up a bit more, but this is definitely the punk album I've enjoyed the most. So far. I'm assuming London Calling is coming, and it's not American Idiot, but for now, this wins the punk crown so far. I also think this album, along with American Idiot, draws a line between punk and pop punk, so I'm not sure how I'm going to classify the "number bands" genre, if there are any on this list.
01) Burnout - 7,5 02) Having a Blast - 7,5 03) Chump - 7,5 04) Longview - 9,0 05) Welcome to Paradise - 8,0 06) Pulling Teeth - 7,5 07) Basket Case - 10,0 08) She - 8,0 09) Sassafras Roots - 7,5 10) When I Come Around - 10,0 11) Coming Clean - 7,0 12) Emenius Sleepus - 7,5 13) In the End - 7,5 14) F.O.D. - 7,5 TOTAL: 8,00 (80/100) Current ranking: 156/484
i love punk, and i love pop punk. green day never clicked for me for some reason. it's good, but i don't recognize it as amazing
I enjoy some Green Day, this is definitely one of their best albums
Maybe this is the 00s nostalgia talking, but always have had a soft spot for Green Day. This is a good pop punk album, with the clear highlight "When I Come Around." Enjoyed it!
Good
Just some solid pop-punk that anyone can enjoy. One of Green Day's best.
Really good
very much enjoy the virgin vibes of the album and the music of it all
Punk rock, lots of recognizable songs
Good album
You can really see how this was the pivotal album to spark pop punk, as it doesn't regard the original punk spirit at all, but instead lends its eyes at catchy melodies and high energy bangers. The dynamic builds and pauses before the chorous hits is frequently used to good effect, as on "When I come around".
Highlights: Chump, Basketcase, Welcome to Paradise, Sassafras Roots. In a nutshell: a spit shine for punk rock. You gotta hand it to Green Day- they were determined to sound awesome. Compare the Kerplunk! recording of Welcome to Paradise with the Dookie version. The changes are nuanced but getting help with the production made WTP sound punchier. I went in only knowing three songs- Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case and When I Come Around. The outro on Chump is magnificent, neatly transitioning into the next track (Longview). Maybe front loaded, but Dookie still kicks ass. Overall: 8/10
fuckin grand
dumbass name for an album but god damn was this a good phase
would have been a 5 star if they had kept the original name
The standard for pop punk, a genre I still really don't care for in general, but damn this album rips and is worth the hype.
8/10 I believe I’m rating this relative to my mixed but growing appreciation of American Idiot, it’s definitely a better album in context of their second wind in my mind, not that it isn’t great, but I have more an appreciation for where they came from compared to their later records that I think are hit or miss. This, alongside Smash by Offspring, is another necessary Pop Punk foundation for the youth, though it seems like the aesthetics and sound of Dookie have aged much better and have had a grip on “Alternative” culture than most Rock or Punk albums from that decade. It comes with the unfortunately annoying conversations regarding what is “REAL PUNK” but it’s still good that it exists. I love the energy on this album a lot, though it comes with the downside of feeling “same-y” throughout, I appreciate its outcast syndrome and dejected feelings with the humor throughout. Shoutout bisexuals that say the f slur fr
Great album and to the point.
During the 1970s and early 1980s, punk music was intense, direct, and rooted in non-conformity, protesting against the establishment and authoritarianism. It was a chaotic sound intended to cut through the overwhelming presence of mainstream culture, compelling you to stop, listen, and take notice. Dookie isn't that type of punk. In the early 90s, Green Day emerged as one of the pioneering pop-punk bands to achieve mainstream success, focusing on enjoyment and accessibility. Although their sound had similarities to 70s punk, the lyrical themes revolved more around individual experiences like boredom, anxiety, relationships, and sexuality. Rather than protesting against societal structures, they expressed frustrations of their own personal experiences within society. And it was refreshing following the bleak and intense nature of the grunge music era. When this album was released, I was in my final year of university. I wasn't a punk kid (or especially emo), but I understood what they were saying. I loved the catchy hooks, the quick tempo, the powerful guitars, the harmonies, and the drum beats that made it impossible to remain still. There are some Grade A songs on this album ("Longview", "Basket Case", and "When I Come Around") - 30+ years on, the album holds up. The only downside is how the album ends. But then again, perhaps "All by Myself" embodies a feeling similar to releasing air from a balloon. It is over. Time to deflate.
Fun short songs, little variety. low 4
It's a solid pop punk record. Really catchy, ultimately a little samey for my tastes. F.o.D is my top track for sure.
Funny commentary on things.
One of the best albums by one of the most iconic modern punk rock bands. I used to be more into Green Day back in the day, so my rating might be influenced by teenage nostalgia, but this album leaves little to criticize. One could wish for a little more variety, because the songs do tend to sound quite similar, but in this case I would consider it as “Delivered as ordered”.
I really liked this but I don't think it's their best album.
Unclear how to be objective in my assessment of this album. Green day is all nostalgia for me and I love it. I was vibing through the whole album. Is it repetitive? Yes, but I don't mind for some reason!
This was pretty good. A lot of songs I like.
I was excited for this one. It holds up, but wouldn't say it's the best of GDs earlier albums. It's a little homogenous, but I'll take it any day!
Green Day's 'sellout' album. I mean, the singles on this defined punk in the 90s. Basket Case still hits as hard as the first time I heard it. Mike Dirnt is just annihilating his kit. Tre Cool is in the background shredding the bass. Billie Joe is about as intelligible as Eddie Vedder but you still want to sing along. You've got the whole MTV generation singing about masturbating. Non-single She is probably my favorite Green Day song. This is the definitive pre American Idiot Green Day album . What more do you want? Holy shit, I forgot about All By Myself. Hilarious and creepy.
Raddest shit ever when I was a teenager and not too bad now! Some very impressive musicianship from some snotty young men, and it’s fun. If you’re in the right head space this record still has all the charms.
Dookie held up pretty well honestly, this was a fun listen and more detailed than I remembered it to be. Rating: 4.25
Classic pop punk. Biased slightly as they are one of the best and most consistent live acts about but it slaps
Still an absolute banger album.
14 year old me loved this album. It still holds up
ah to be 14 again :)
Still a classic.
Classic
Strong 4, almost a 4.5 for me.
Fun teenage dirtbag neurosis in 2 minute doses. It's snappy, good bass, good drums and easy to sing along with. First time listening to the album as a whole and surprised at both how many hits there are and the plethora of great one liner lyrics. "Are you feeling like a social tool without a use?"
A surprising number of hits on this album. The end kind of lost the thread, but overall pretty good!
Already owned this one. For a reason. It’s great!
[7/10]
First cd I ever bought with my own money. This is probably a 5 star for me based on nostalgia alone. Haven’t listened to the whole thing in probably 25 years, so I’m excited to give it another spin. Giving it a listen, I could make the same criticism I did for Guns N’ Roses’ album — music for teenage boys of a certain era — and it doesn’t hit the same way now that I’m in my 40s. Still a great example of pop music from the 90s though, and something I enjoyed coming back to.
Day 30: Dookie - Green Day. Green Day album 1/2. I DID IT ALL FOR THE DOOKIE (C'MON) THE DOOKIE (C'MON), SO YOU CAN TAKE THAT COOKIE!!! Wait, sorry...wrong thing. Pop punk is a less-abrasive punk sub-genre in comparison to classic 1970's punk rock. However, it does not necessarily mean that there is less angst involved in the music. While I'm not a fan of punk music, I'm very glad that a new generation of punk music has been spawned in the 1990's. Green Day, along with bands like blink-182 and Sum 41, have fronted the 1990's pop punk scene. I find cheerful melodies paired with angst-filled lyrics of pop punk songs to be quite interesting, and they feel very nostalgic. I like it. Personally, I prefer American Idiot over Dookie. I feel like if you grew up listening to Green Day, you wouldn't grow out of their music, and this would feel much cooler. I, however, grew up listening to P!nk. Anyway, there's quite a bit of variety in this album, and I like that. Personal Enjoyment: 3/5. How Much It Belongs Here: 4/5.
Taught myself a lot of these songs when I got my guitar.
Classic Pop Punk right here.
Dookie is stacked with pop-punk classics that still hold up decades later. Green Day really found their sweet spot here — catchy hooks, snotty vocals, and just enough angst to soundtrack a teenager slamming the bedroom door. "Welcome to Paradise" might technically be a re-release, but it's still an all-time banger. "Basket Case" takes the top spot for me though — and not just because of the Roll Tide energy. If there’s a weak link, it’s probably “In The End,” which feels more filler than fire. Still, this album helped define a genre, and it earns its four stars easy.
I really don't like pop punk, but I'll set my prejudices aside and admit that I quite enjoyed this album. The album is 38 minutes with 15 songs so it's pretty jam-packed with short hard hitting songs. The album has some of the better Green Day hits on it like Welcome to Paradise and When I Come Around. The album tracks aren't all as memorable but they're nice to hear and just as fun as the rest. The closer was a bit of a useless bummer but otherwise a fun listen. Still not punk though.
I have this one. Catchy as hell
i grew up with this album, my dad constantly playing songs from this band. this is basically the album that made me want to learn guitar. fun album, a bit repetitive at times but it’s paved a way for green day. the album’s overall theme is just really relatable and i’ve dreamt of living the life of an unemployed man in his mid twenties, masturbating as a pastime activity. something about the theme really just sparks an inspiration in me. like there’s a beauty in living in a loop and constantly in boredom. dookie isn’t the best album ever (to me, at least) but it has made a significant impact on my life. and i think, just because it’s a simple pop punk album doesn’t mean it’s bad. you don’t need to shred the mixolydian scale to make a song sound good. the story behind an album matters much more to me rather than technical complexity. sorry for the little rant
Classic Green Day. Songs that trigger nostalgia, yet they hail from a time before mine. I liked Green Day songs before, but this album gives me a greater appreciation… for how shit some of their older stuff is. Dookie is in fact the word I would use to describe “21 Guns”. Cool, fun, sellouts but they sound good!
Some nostalgia value but wouldn't be my favorite band today.
How can you tell Green Day from other popular artists? Other artists play in major or minor key, but Green Day plays in Dookie.
Another one from my childhood. My older brother and his friends played this one a lot. Nostalgia aside, these dudes know how to write catchy pop songs. 3.5
"Basket Case" is one of my favourite songs of all time, and I love "When I Come Around" too. To be honest, the rest of the album was fine, though I found it a bit repetitive. 3.5 rounded up
Basket Case, When I Come Around
Fun and solid. The punk-ier songs tend to blend together and sound very similar. The best parts of this album are when Green Day move away from the punk sound and actually let the songs breathe and develop. Has enough of both worlds to be great, but not excellent. Top tracks: Basket Case, She, When I Come Around
timeless
A 90s classic - Green Day is always a nostalgia trip. Whilst they might not be quite our go to anymore, they're a classic for a reason. We enjoyed this.
sometimes I give myself the creeps
Bass makes this. Transition from chump to Longview is chefs kiss
It’s been about 20 years since I last listened to this album front to back, and it still slaps. Tre’s drumming is particularly noteworthy on this one. So much of the music I listened to growing up was directly inspired by Green Day and this album. Holds lots of nostalgia for me. Standout songs: Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case
I love it!!
80/100
I like this album plenty but Green Day falls short of 5 star worthy for me generally.
7/10. Good album. Some classics.
Dookie Not necessarily my favourite genre, but I have a bit of a soft spot for this sort of pop punk, post grunge and pre emo, and this is surely the best example of this type of music. It’s not their fault they birthed Sum 41, Blink 182, Cupboard 37, Hook 92 and Toast 13, and that Busted and McFly teenified them. Their melodic sensibilities are clear, and while some songs are stronger than others when it’s good it’s really good; Longview (one of the better songs about wanking) Welcome to Paradise and Basket Case are excellent, catchy bits of power-pop-punk. Lyrically they stand apart from their peers too, there’s none of the puerile lyrics of Blink 182 and they eschew the self pitying, cringeworthy, teenage, my parents hate me whininess of many other bands. Their focus on the frustration, boredom, anxiety and the limited horizon of teenage and young adult life feels true to life and authentic in a way many punk, metal and alt bands from the same time do not. It’s a really enjoyable listen, with some great highs and generally solid tracks. As it’s the best example of this sort of thing It just crosses into the 4s 💩💩💩💩 Playlist submission: Basket Case is obviously great, but I’ll go with Longview
I'm personally not a huge Green Day fan but I'm also not a Green Day hater and of the random albums ive been listening to this one was closest to my regular music taste so it was a bit of a breath of fresh air. I'd say it's a pretty good album all the songs just sound like Green Day
Nostalgic.
3.5 stars rounded up. The singles and b-sides like Sassafras Roots are great. The rest is serviceable 90s pop punk.
Thoroughly enjoyed this trip down memory lane. It holds up pretty well too! Although the hidden track (not so hidden these days, on Spotify) wasn't needed and leaves a bit of a sour taste after a really well put together pop-punk masterpiece.
Bardzo fajne. W zasadzie to równy album, bez słabych piosenek, ale z kilkoma bardzo dobrymi. Takie 4/5. Piosenki z największą liczbą wyświetleń najlepsze. Nie jest to zaskakujące.
The same mix of cultural factors that produced this album also produced Weezer and Foo Fighters. Listen one of the three bands and you will hear echos of the other two. This is a really good album with multiple radio hits and enough edge to keep it real. I personally prefer one notch closer to punk on the pop-punk spectrum, but there is no denying that Green Day rocks.
Ein tolles Album, dass man sich immer wieder anhören kann.
Modern punk rock at its finest
i own a t-shirt i love dearly with this album cover from when the album was first released. this is one of green day's best albums, and completely encompasses the self indulgent, immature, and yet somehow endearing teenage spirit of pop punk. billie joe armstrong is "one of those melodramatic fools" and i love him for it.
7/10
the ninetiest album, straight teenage dirtbag vibes, i dig it. basket case is a classic when i come around is another classic all by myself is probably the best way to end this 90s ride i really liked this album
Pop punk is a risible genre which took the righteous anger of its forerunners and replaced it with a petulant ‘passage a l’act’ which didn’t accomplish much more than egocentric whinging. ‘Dookie’ is partly responsible for this, right down to the sensory overload of shit puns and childish in-jokes that populate the front cover of its sleeve. But flip it over to the rear cover and you get closer to Green Day’s mission statement here: a close up from one of their chaotic gigs around the time showing a sweaty mosh pit of frenzied kids. It was these kids that the band were talking to, disclosing the frustrations of middle America’s suburban neuroses. It might be largely superficial, but it’s a theme that the band really perfected here in a set of 14 excellent songs. It’s hard to believe this is the same guy who wrote American Idiot, because everything he and Mike Dirnt touched on this record was pretty much gold. The production is immense, with Armstrong’s barking guitar mingling with Dirnt’s elastic bass playing to propel you through this record at a breathless pace. This conciseness, clearly indebted to the Ramones, is my favourite part of the album, and even when they slow the pace down in tracks like “Pulling Teeth” (a real highlight), they still conjure up some power pop genius. Re-listening to this reminded me how many of these tracks had seeped into my brain as a teenager, and even if Green Day were already churning out brilliant albums before Dookie, this one is arguably a cut above the rest of their discography. All that being said, something makes me reluctant to give it a perfect score. Possibly it’s juvenile pretensions are just to overbearing to ignore, especially when you see Dookie constantly placed in discussions of ‘great punk albums’. It might not have aged all that well, but it’s still a fantastic listen nonetheless.
Currently on the second song "Having a Blast", so far, I think this album is pretty upbeat, energetic, fun, and catchy. The instrumentals are really hooking me, the vocals not so much, I never really enjoyed green day's singing... ><.
Classic
I have fond memories of this album: owning a CD player type FM stereo and popping my Dookie CD in it that I got from the Mall's FYE. Playing Minecraft on the 360 with my brother while listening to Dookie. Good memories. Now, I'm not completely in love with every song but it holds up and will always be an enjoyable listen.
Solid listen. Got some confirmed classic but All by Myself was a rough way to end the album.
Good album
A sensação de nostalgia que senti ao ouvir Dookie... É como se já as tivesse ouvido as músicas, mesmo que eu não as conhecesse. Essa sensação nostalgica demostra a força e a originalidade de Green Day.
Their best album. It’s a shame to lump it in with pop punk. It’s a bit more interesting than that.
Green Day were at the forefront of the 90's/00's pop punk surge. A ton of big hits on this album. It started off kind of slow but really got going. I remember my older cousins were obsessed with this album.
# Playlist track - Basket Case # Notes - Super fun! - I happened to listen to this a lot as a pre-teen, so it feels really nostalgic. Still, after all this years it feels young, fresh and energetic. - Not quite punk, not quite pop. But that's not really an issue. - Album would do better without the last 3-4 songs, but they are not terrible. Cost 1 star from my review tho!
I really can't stand Green Day but this album slaps. Greats songs except for \"All By Myself\" which is just a ridiculous, adolescent ode to onanism. I guess that's to be expected from an album named after what the artwork monkey is trying to decide to throw (or not). This was a fun album - it's too bad Green Day sees themselves so self-important these days.
i do love an album that flows and the first 4 tracks here are great. want to 5* it but despite it being a good solid album it misses some wow factor
Accomplished Pop-Punk-Rock album. I liked it.
As good an example of pop-punk as you are likely to find. This still holds up pretty well.
This makes being a loser sound cool as hell.
If it was just about what’s on the album, I’d give it a 5, but this album is the starting point that ended up with me hearing pop punk type sounds in modern country pop and that just makes me fucking sad.
Been years since I last listened to this. Still pretty fresh! Lyrically, I didn't pay much attention when it first came out, but there's some pretty solid poetry underneath those three chords. Punks that can play! The hits still sound great -- and the filler stuff is at least passable. I've long thought that "She" is one of the overlooked GD songs. Just pump your fist and go with it.
An amazing collection of guitar-driven pop songs. Always happy to hear this record, and still holds up after more than 25 years. A hugely influential album. In my opinion, the pinnacle of pop punk. 4⭐️
Plenty of stand out tracks on offer here 💪
Punks been dead so many times, but now time has blunted the 1977 to 1994 to the point where the kids are probably unable to tell the difference. These boys sang british, confusing matters. Any Billy Joe is a pretty good frontman and songwriter, love the Dirnt harmonies, simple but effective, and Mr. Cool is an effective drummer. And a better one than say the lately "GOATed" Mr. Barker, at least for my tastes. Anyway some pretty assured songwriting and performance, and some memorable epoch defining songs on this one.
Great punk rock album, which introduced me to the genre 30 years ago, at a time when most the rock chart was metal and grunge. Lot of the early classics like Basket Case, Longview and When I Come Around. 4/5
