solo para iniciados....

I had never heard of Moby Grape before, and didn’t recognise a single track on this album, so I went into it with no expectations at all. On paper, this should be right up my street. San Francisco 60s pop rock is usually a safe bet for me, and there are definitely some great moments here. But it’s a bit of a mixed bag. For every lively, engaging track, there’s a slower, meandering ballad that doesn’t really go anywhere and takes the momentum out of the album. There just aren’t enough songs in the mould of Come in the Morning, which has a real spark to it and shows what the band can do at their best. Too often, things drift along without leaving much of an impression, and that makes parts of the album feel longer than they should. Favourite tracks: Come in the Morning is a great tune and easily the standout for me. Least favourite tracks: The slower songs drag a bit, especially Naked, If I Want To. Album artwork: A pretty standard 60s cover, nothing special but fits the era.

Another 60's album, yay.....

Not my piece of Grape..

Voisi ehkä itse tehdä kirjan nimeltä 1001 Albums You Definitely Shouldn't Hear Before You Die, menis 70% näistä levyistä sinne. Mutta jäämme jännällä odottamaan huomista.

Ihan kivaa 60-luvun peruspoppista.

Listened Before? N Pretty decent psych-rock 60's album. There are so many of these on the list that they're just blending together at this point. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: 8:05

Ho Hum psychedelic rock album from the 70s

half the album was not avail on spotify tho

Very much some of the most forgettable fuzz rock I've ever come in contact with my ear drums. This is going in the bucket of albums that I don't remember a single thing about when I read this review later 4.3/10

I just couldn’t connect with it

Spotify didn't have all tracks, but I heard enough. Not the sound for me

groovy, man.

Spotify only had a few songs so I need to go listen to this elsewhere. Still rating for now since I've listened to Moby Grape before. Generally seems like they sound like a band of that time. They seem talented but their songs have never stuck out to me.

Grateful Dead wannabes

Do an Uber trick. I think I did the same intro for that electronica guy who calls himself Moby. An individual who has become a sort of sympathetic figure in my mind. He seems like a jovial yet, waiflike man who everybody loves, and I just repeatedly dunked on his dance record until my fingers were sore. I of course have no regrets (I probably do, as the review was probably typo and ignorance laden) and I will continue to aggressively posterize that twerp as if I am Shawn Kemp and he is an emaciated power forward for the lowly mid 90's Clippers. With the utmost of reverence. Why do I continue to talk about "Moby" and my metaphorical basketball chops? Well to avoid talking about this record of course! Part boomer rock opera, part interesting vehicle for melodies that sound ripped off from the Beatles, Moby Grape's uhh "Moby Grape" is fine. It feels like a random death metal record from 1992 that's ripping off Entombed. About a dime a dozen and about right in the middle when it comes to execution. Zero memorability here, and another truly baffling inclusion amongst the pantheon of musical mediocrity shovelled into my enclosure each morning. I will leave you with the unfortunately worded opening salvo from Moby Grape's RYM bio. "If ever a band was beset by greedy management, over-ambition and overall incompetence, it was Moby Grape." I mean they were already hamstrung with the incompetence, you had to add a charlatan manager in there?? Looks I'm not the only one who needs an editor! 2.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Nyawww I wanted Moby Lemon

Not my favorite

Not one to age well.

Nothing to see here, dull 60’s rock. Absolutely not necessary to listen to before you die.

Generic-sounding 60's rock. Luckily I sort of like 60s rock so extra star for that.

Side 1 is mid. Side 2 sends this down the drain.

Sounds like every 60’s band melded together

I understand that music, and all art, is subjective. leaving aside that this album doesn't appeal to me, why is it included in a book about albums you must listen to before you die? because there's nothing unique or interesting about this album. And shit like this makes me very mad that There's neither a Tool nor a Deftness album on this stupid list. I cannot wait until I finish this and I get to the music selected by people who actually listen to music instead of picking shit based on reputation and a weird sense of responsibility to...I don't even know what. Just because a band was popular sixty - SIXTY - years ago does not mean that modern humans need to be subjected to it. We still had polio when this album was released. ffs.

Good psychedelic music. Did not realize this is the original "Naked if I want to", cool track. But I really dislike the drums panned to one side on this album.

Not bad old rmellow rock, classic, but not known. . Not sure why it’s on the list, but nice to listen to once

Groupe inconnu. =2/5

Like 8:05 overall underwhelmed

I've heard many other forms of this sound, and better. It often drifted into The Guess Who. 2.5/5

Hm. I dug this one the first time I heard it but thought it was forgettable this time around, actually it kinda sucked.

Not bad, but didn't really stand out to me.

We have The Beatles at home

Fairly bland and forgettable. Some of the tracks were too short to really get started. Not quite enough for three stars, so a high two it is.

Psychedelic Country Rock from the mid-1960s by a band I'd never heard of until today. Nothing special, Jefferson Airplane are better.

only just closer to 2 than 3 more like 2 and a half- just not my favourite. found it slightly boring 💔

Pretty mid as far as I'm concerned, about a 2.5

o.k. but it sounds a bit dated to me.

Moby Grape you say? 🤔😅 Well it sounded kinda OK but nothing to write home about...

Of all the late 60s San Fran groups this is the one picked for this list. I think at this point I continue on with this just to see how much more dumbfounded this list makes me. Moby fuckin Grape...

These guys play great and the songs sound fine, but I don’t hear any lasting influence from them. The style gets old as well, since they’re not making any new sort of noises.

Experimente in den 60er. Mau und lau interessiert keine Sau.

Good album. Gave me some CCR vibes.

Ok. A bit naff.

3/10 Bonus tracks had better 60s /Beatles vibes.

Always tough reviewing rock albums from the 60’s because… yeah.. that’s just what “rock” sounds like. It’s not their fault it’s boring and generic when you’re in the first wave of genre creation, but there IS psych rock done better than this. Honestly “Sweet Ride” long version was where I felt the semblance of a distinct identity come out — but then the album ended.

I was underwhelmed by this album. It's ok but it didn't really do anything for me

Can’t say that anything in particular left an impression

If ur going into any album and thinking it’s gonna be the worst album you’ve ever heard - well, anything excites you. I hate 60’s psych rock and I hate country music, so seeing this album was like a “oh. No.”. Surprised that they kinda complimented each other? Def a weaker album on the list for sure and it doesn’t help that it wasn’t on streaming so dealing with the pains on YouTube didnt help at ALL. A 4/10 can be awesome when u didnt think it could be that good

Mid album

Audition versions were the best part of this album

Mediocre 60’s rock.

Sin más

A note, the album on Spotify doesn’t have the same track listing as the original album per Wikipedia. That said, I listened to the Spotify version because that’s what I had. I thought this was just ok, I didn’t hate it (except Mr. Blues, which was garbage bar blues) but I definitely didn’t love it. It was standard 60’s rock, nothing special.

Got bored i think

Just passed me by. Not good or bad, just felt like so many other albums on this list. Very bland and nothing really stood out to me. Strong 2.

Another "why is this here?" entry. Even Spotify must wonder, since half the album is missing. I don't hate it or anything, but it doesn't generate a pulling interest for me to listen to it or the band again.

It was fine. It was very 60s-ish. It was very forgettable.

Rating: 5/10 Meh.

Très moyen

Beatles sans le talent

I’m not sure how this album is vastly different or better than other higher profiles releases at this time. It was ok, but nothing stands out.

2- Stars (4/15)

Unfortunately, this full album does not seem to be on streaming and it's mostly studio outtakes. Still not bad, I'd be interested in hearing the real deal.

I don't care much for Americana. It's not very interesting to me.

The first few notes sounded like “pale blue eyes”, unfortunately the songwriting wasn’t anywhere near Lou Reed levels. Pretty standard late 60s pop/rock, nothing to get too excited about in my opinion. The version I found was only 20 mins long but that was plenty for me.

The whole album wasn’t available and I only got to listen to three songs. That was three too many!

Nowhere close to the best of 1967. Sounds like everything else from the era. High 2

Got halfway through. It was okay

They mathematically calculated the middle of the road. This album isn't bad but it isn't really interesting, especially next to albums of the same genre and era so meh

Were all good over here.2.5/5

Really ordinary psych-country music not really memorable or interesting

Totally forgettable Boomer rock. Not horrible, but certainly nothing special.

This old 60s psychedelic stuff doesn’t do it for me.

Generic 60s psychedelic

Indistinguishable bluesy rock and roll, with some nice harmonies but altogether not enough to make me listen to an album on YouTube

I thought this was OK? It certainly was not bad but I didnt hear anything to make me recommend it or think it should be considered so highly.

60ies 2,4

Correcto

Can’t listen to the whole album it’s “unavailable in my region” It’s giving sad dad album with decent guitar and drum solos, clear inspiration from The Beatles Best listen: Indifference

This album is not on Spotify so I cannot listen to it lmao you gotta be kidding me

Not good for me. Sounded a bit too psychedelic

Off thecuff remark: never heard of them at all, which seems a surprise and they sound like a combination of so many other bands, so I suspect there will be a "forerunners to../ big influence on.." thing going on which I don't know about but largely they sound like nice american 60s pop, but pretty forgettable Standout track: none really Revisits?: can't think why I would already forgotten them

just fine, pretty generic 60s stuff but not unlistenable

Pretty unremarkable overall - too bad I didn't listen to the abridged version (a Moby Dick joke?)

2 thoughts about this band... one is that san fran seems like it was super super cool in the 60s and that this band has the worst name ever. one of the guys in this band was in a band called The Ducks in santa cruz with neil young in 1977. They tried to just be like a local bar scene band but bc neil was in the band they blew tf up and broke up in 6 weeks. anyways i thought that was cool and neil put out some live recordings thru the NYA in 2023... they did some rock n roll covers of neil songs which are cool but this was actually a helpful reminder to download the full album... anyways i hate blues rock but the more folky songs on this were nice but i honestly think it kinda sucked <3

Album is only partially available in the USA on Spotify. It was a mix of 60’s HAIR mashed with telecaster sparkle guitar licks.

Not as bad as I was expecting. More rock than Psych. 2/5

Moby Grape is solidly in the late sixties--musically with the psychedelic rock, but thematically with "Naked, If I Want To."

Not what I was expecting, but I think that's because I might have got them confused with Blck Grape. It was ok, but I was just getting into a song, it was over, and the next one was starting

Hasn’t aged well. Essential listening? Eehhh 2

Probably important to the history of rock but just not my style

On the surface, this sounds so old. Recording quality and style is really old. Hey Grandma evokes thoughts of The Beatles. Fall on You sounds fun and could've been the single? Yep looks like it was the lead single. Makes sense. Come in the Morning is pretty good too. None of this sounds earth shattering or even like it would stand out in its time really, and it certainly doesn't sound psychedelic to me. I don't expect to listen to this again, other than Fall on You.

Not so great

Sort of plodded along without any stand out tracks.

basic idk

Just mid only good as background music when you are focusing on something else. Didnt like the vibe that much

For me this is a typical Rock album from the sixties. There were‘nt any surprises so i find it a bit boring.

god damn this has been my "1001 albums filler" punching bag since i started this, and i get it now? 38 albums in? jeez... not for any musical reason, mind you. just cause Moby Grape sounds dumb. it's a fine enough record. fairly standard for late 60s fare. i'm more excited to listen to Oar once it gets rolled deserves to be one of the 1001? probably not, but if you disagree i won't be mad

Half of this album isn’t even on spotify, and the part that is isn’t that good

Doesn’t do enough to distinguish itself from the classic rock catalogue. Not a bad listen just not memorable or something I connected with emotionally.

My dad loved to mention them growing up but I never listened to anything they ever did until now. Not sure how this merits getting on a must listen 1001 list though. It was a bit more rockin' than a Dead album but nothing special. The sound carried thru till today, I can think of several bands that have a similar sound, so maybe they had some influence. One positive? Decent harmonies and a few good guitar licks. No hits, miniscule listener counts on Spotify, except for "8:05" with 2.8M, no radio songs, very average vocals, terrible-god-awful album cover in front of an antique store with SPOONS in hand, this one doesn't make the cut! 2 stars for trying and cause my dad was into them.

It's ok

Best Song: Lazy Me. It was lyrically fun, and well-delivered. Worst Song: Rounder (instrumental). This is just a generic jam track. Overall: It's fun enough, but I also would have been okay with this being lost to the annals of history. I'm sure it was a great time for all members involved, but it lacks the kind of importance or interest that I would expect from a list like this.

Only a handful of song on Spotify and I did not like it enough to seek out the rest

Not that interesting.

Generic and interesting compared to other bands of the time.

Gear: Grado Hemp Artwork: 😐😐😐😐😐 Production: 🎧😐👍 Music: 😐😐😐 Rating: 😐😐/5

On the forgettable side of the hippy tidal wave.

It was ok, but nothing special at all.

Nothing special

Most of the album isn't available on Spotify, not really a genre of music I would listen to. Probably won't listen again.

This one I could have lived without. I guess it is added for the guitar work? The singer doesn’t seem to think staying on key is important.

not bad just bland

Never heard of these guys and likely never will again. Nondescript 60s psychedelic rock. Yawn.

another cool one, pretty neutral on it, went in one ear and out the other

Honestly not a bad album but I never really vibed or got into any of the songs that much

Half an album on Spotify is sad

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3OjfK0t1XM Have you ever seen Snakes v Iguanas? Sad that these Iguanas were totally screwed over by their manager. But the last laugh went to the band since, based on this album, they were't that good anyway.

Ok, not too catchy though

Standard late 60's rock stuff. Wrong drugs or wrong dose, clearly.

There wasn't anything here to appeal to me. The Monkees are far more fun.

Kinda avg nothing special

Underwhelming nand forgettable psycheledic Pop, not necessarly all bad. (Almost?) Fully available in Deezer with bonus tracks.

Working a lot of shitjobs as a youth, I would meet a lot of ageing longhairs who loved to talk music. Every single one of them would have a slightly obscure rock band that they insisted was the best one, and should have been much bigger than they were. Moby Grape was a fairly common pick. I’ve listened to Moby Grape now. Doesn’t do it for me, sounds like a less chaotic Big Brother + Holding Company, and without a secret weapon. It did make me think of Ross, though, who drove me to the ER when I got cleaning chemicals in my eyes, and offered me a joint in his pizza delivery van, “in case we have to wait there a while.” I liked thinking of that.

oh why oh why oh why oh why oh why oh why oh why hawaii hawaii hawaii hawaii hawaii hawaii hawaii hawaii hawaii hawaii

There’s a 70s rock sound in there that I like, but only once or twice did it click over into a song I really liked. Too inconsistent overall - the misses really missed.

Generic 60s music that wasn’t too innovative

Why is this on the list? One of the many 60's R'n'B/Country/Rock bands. Like listening to several bands, so generic this is.

Sounds to me a lot like Buffalo Springfield, bad recorded also, sound is poor.

Sounds exactly like you’d expect from the description. Not very exciting and not one I’ll revisit.

I have no real opinion on this.

So much guitar. Too much. Sounds like a 4th of July picnic and not in a good way. Kinda groovy.

It was fine. I think there’s a reason I hadn’t heard of Moby Grape, and a reason my brain doesn’t remember a single song from their generic sounding psychedelic album. This is another one of those albums that doesn’t actually feel like one you need to hear, just one that people think is important because it’s old.

I like Moby, and I like grapes. Would you call me crazy if I said I didn't care for them together?

Folky album

Moldy Grape

Perfectly competent, but why would I ever listen to this when pretty much every contemporary is so much better?

This was quite hard to find, and had to listen on YouTube. A couple of my favourite albums aren't on big streaming sites, people are missing out on so much music because of this. So I was expecting great things from this potential forgotten treasure. It was ok, nothing particularly outstanding. The back story was probably the best thing about it.

Just not my style of rock, pretty dull and over before it even starts.

Basically the Beatles but a little less interesting

[Michael Scott no.gif]

Spotify is missing some of the tracks, but largely boring for me. No song had me wanting to come back, it felt generic and not important for me to listen to

"Moby Grape" is not bad, but compared to other albums of the genre, it doesn't have anything that makes it stand out from the rest. Still, they were competent in what they set out to do. And that's all I have to say about this album.

I like their name and on a personal level, 1967 was a helluva a year! Wasn't quite the "physchedelic" as stated, just a bluesy relatively mellow rock album. Brief and straight to the point, I didn't think this was too bad, but there was nothing that left me excited about my visits either. Great name, decent music, but nothing in the 25 minutes left me wanting more or to revisit. 2

Not to my taste.

2 estrelas

Nice twiddly dreamy sixties fare.

I heard if them, wasn't familiar with the group. Ok, my life not impacted by listening to them ...

ok for 60s, but too soft

Bizarrely, only one track plus bonus tracks were available on my preferred streaming service so I couldn't really give this one a listen.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Aamen ja paamen.... thank you ugly beatles.. incredile band of legends.. respect from sumeria sweet ride

Old school music that still sounds good today. Not much to say other than that the songs are good but its not something I would listen to often.

An album like Thanksgiving. I give thanks to the fact that we don't live in the 60s anymore ... 2/5

Only three of the songs from the original album are available on Spotify, but I think that's an ample sample group to evaluate. It seems that Moby Grape was an amalgam of musical styles generally associated with mid-sixties, "Summer of Love"-type Pop-Rock tunes. It's all very nice, but I didn't find it very compelling.

Would have been nice to listen to the whole album. Thanks Spotify.

listen, i'm not gonna pretend to understand why acidhead hippies love San Francisco country rock so much. to me, Moby Grape and the Grateful Dead maintain the veneer of countercultural and revolutionary aesthetic due to being at the right place in the right time. in practice, it serves as perfectly passable background music for doodling Mr. Natural or Freak Brothers fanart to. nice yet inoffensive. i do like "Omaha", "Naked, If I Want To", "Lazy Me", and "Sitting by the Window" (the closest the record gets to wowing me), but nothing really hooks me here. i don't get it. if there was a Moby Grape cover band playing at the park (where else would they be), i'd probably leave. go buy some soap at the adjacent farmer's market and wash myself with that until i get hives after a week. if i was selling Moby Grape i'd airbrush out the flag and the middle finger too, this time as an aesthetic choice. this is not a "fuck you" record. this is a handshake record -- it's friendly, brief, and i'm probably gonna forget i engaged with it in a week's time. such is the way of the wing.

i don’t careeeeeeee. just another 60s guitar band full of white guys trying their hardest to sound black. BORING and DERIVATIVE.

Took me a while to work out less than half the album is on Apple Music but even less to work out I didn't really care. Heard it all before.

i was listening to this while focused on a separate task, and most of the tunes passed by without notice. music is rarely so easy to ignore. but i did a double-take for "Sitting by the Window," a standout

Never heard of this band. Only a few tracks off this album are available to me on Spotify so this is a partial review. I do like 60s psychedelia but not a big fan folky-rock or country-rock like 8:05 and Mr. Blues. Indifference was pretty good. Rounder also I liked, and Sweet Ride was pretty good. Overall a 2 from what tracks I could review.

Hard to find the whole album. Had to use a YouTube playlist of questionable sources. Anyway, it's exactly what you'd expect to hear out of 1967 San Francisco. Some of the guitar work was pretty good, but by and large the album wasn't very interesting. 2 stars.

Late 60s jams, it's okay

Another generic 60s album. I didn’t find one standout song. It’s not amongst the worst I’ve listened to but there’s nothing here that I find essential. 2.5/5

Pretty bleh..

Pretty rough recording. It basically sounds like the very earliest Dead CD, but with less energy and less polish. I'm also not 100% sure I listened to the whole thing. It's not available on Spotify, and the YouTube I found for it was awfully short. Not what I'd call one of those quintessential 60s CDs.

Didn't do much for me.

This album bored me. I didn’t like the song where it sounded like it was SKIPPING, I had to check my device multiple times to see if it was working. It went by fast which is always good but I don’t really recognize the influence.

I feel like I would have appreciated this more if I were around for its release but I just listened to the album and while it was obviously a talented group and at points I noticed some creative spots I don't remember a damn thing I listened to. I'm left with the feeling that I just listened to the/a generic late 60s California soundtrack. Not a bad thing but wasn't an active listening trip for me. 4/10 2 stars. [n.b. not on Apple Music - looked it up on youtube]

moby grape

A 60s album by a band called ‘Moby Grape’ seemed like it would be the worst thing ever recorded, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Thought it would be more psychedelic. It did have too much 60s white guy boomy soul singing though.

Listenable but uninspiring. 2*

This isn't really for me. It sounds a lot like Creedence and I was never a fan. Good guitar work, and decent bass lines. But for the most part the music is just boring to me. I'd never heard of Moby Grape before and I don't think I'll really seek them out at all. 2/5

Another somewhat underwhelming album, it’s okay.

The most average 67' rock album you could think of. So, very good music if you're into that.

Not bad

I couldn't listen to most of it because the bulk of the album wasn't available on Spotify. I'm not upset...what I heard wasn't great. 2/5

I liked a song but overall not my cup of tea

Hieman vaisuksi ehkä jäi tai sit mä en vaa tajua. 2/5

Um this was okay. For some reason it reminded me of the Beatles.

It's fine, it's just not my thing. At least it's not offensively twee like The Byrds.

2.5 actually, pretty good. Not available on Apple Music though.

The 60s albums that are actually good really stand out to me now. Because I’m slowly starting to dislike most of what I’m hearing from this era more and more. With each generic psych rock I hear, I lose a little bit more hope. Or maybe I lose a year off of my life. I’m not sure. But either way, if those first few sentences don’t already queue in on how I feel about this album, what I say next will. I really only have four words to describe this. A very boring slog. I’ve just heard enough of this music from enough artists to know that I’m tired of it. I’ve been tired of it. I could never hear another one of these albums again and live on happily. This album had about three worthwhile and memorable songs. If this didn’t come out in 1967, I would think this was a collection of bad cuts from a Neil Young album. Or maybe Jefferson Airplane. Since it reminds me the most of that. The unfortunate thing is I know I’m going to have to talk about another one of these. Soon enough, I’ll be able to make a longer list of the ones I don’t like or don’t remember than the ones I actually enjoy. It’s rare I write this little. But that’s because it’s rare I have so little to say. Skip this album. Rating: 4/10

If you choose to go down this path, you are opening a can of worms that I don't think people fully understand. Putting an album that is 14 minutes long means that when I consider my list, I can put a bunch of K-Pop mini albums that are even longer than that (usually 20 minutes). Do we think that is wise? Maybe I will add the single Boats and Hoes to my list because it's only a little bit shorter than this. Actually it might be about the same time since it has an instrumental version and some other version too. My mind is racing at all the "non albums" that people say shouldn't be on a list but clearly here Art is Art. This list does not judge between long and short, good or bad, British or UK. All albums are welcome here. This list should be called 1001 Albums of varying degrees of length and quality.

This album has a song named "Indifference" and that perfectly sums up my feelings towards this album

There is genuinely nothing special about this album. There are millions of psychedelic rock albums that came out in the 1960s that are way better than this. It is rather repetitive, but it gets a 2 because I have definitely heard worse.

Just a couple of the tracks were available on Spotify. Groovy 60's music. This one didn't do too much for me. I didn't hate it, but the vocals and guitar tracks and overall thinking about music seems tired and played out.

1967 San Francisco rock. 2/5

It was okay. Just 60s rock, nothing special.

Inte riktigt vad man hoppats på.

Eh, normal 60s meh.

Not a fan

I couldn't get a hold of the complete album so I cobbled together the songs from greatest hits and other compilation albums as best as I could. It sounded like pretty standard rock of that time, nothing really stuck out for me. I don't understand why some of these songs appear to be impossible to find.

It's a shame the version on Tidal, Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music is incomplete...nah, just kidding you aren't missing anything amazing. That said, why even list the album when only *one* of the original album songs is available for listening?

Pretty straightforward classic rock with the usual elements- twangy Rolling Stones guitar, Beatles vocal harmonies, high energy The Who-like lead vocals. Usually when I hear a straightforward song like "8:05", I try to find things that make me want to hear it again, like "is this song beautiful?" "is this song lyrically interesting?" "is it fun?" "is there some hidden parts or things that make it stand out beyond my first impression?". If a song is straightforward (in my opinion) and doesn't offer anything different or particularly catchy, I usually need something else for me to really enjoy it beyond that first hear. Maybe it's because it took 10 tracks for this album to have a song go longer than 3 minutes but it felt like all of these songs flew by and I couldn't grab many of these lasting elements. The songs came and went and they didn't often have a lot of those other factors that keep me listening. Because of this, I really want to give this a 1, but I've been reserving 1's for albums that I found to be downright bad. Is this album downright bad? No, I don't think so. Does it deserve to be on this list? I'm not sure. It's just kind of forgettable.

Hey its the band that Alexander "Skip" Spence tried to kill with an axe while high. Blind album and artist. It was okay I guess? Did not expect much and did not care for it.

Boring

Poor man’s Doors…less memorable songs, much fewer songs, no Manzarek, No Jim. Not sure why they’d appear on this list.

Precursor to later 70s hard rock but very rough and unpolished.

A pretty standard blues/hard rock album that didn’t leave much of an impression

Dated 2

Another forgettable British pop/rock album. This list is full of them apparently

Didn’t have all the songs on the album but decent.

Dirty Hippies 😉

Why oh why is this on this list? And why are people giving it such high ratings? This is so run to the mill

It was ok, but not my favorite.

When you look up cliche 60's rock, this is what you find. Scales have definitely tipped in favor of albums I hope to never hear again.

2/5 not my taste of music

Labels fought over these guys? Seriously? Wow, I guess the suits and the musicians were all into Heroin back in the hippie movement in Frisco

Sounds right on par for 1967, probably couldn't recognize it if I heard it.

Ei jätä oikein muistijälkiä. Kivasti vähän raskaampi kuin ehkä heti odottaisi. Mutta miksi tämä albumi on pakko kuulla? Kuulostaa hieman omanlaiseltaan, muttei ollenkaan maata mullistavalta tai tosi taitavalta.

Pulled into the 3s by one song

This is Moby Grape's self titled debut album. Psychadelic country rock, kinda like Sgt Pepper era Beatles. Average song length is like 2 minutes, and the songs feel unfinished. Like they don't wind down, or come to any kind of conclusion, they just end. Feels like they rushed to get the album out and had 3/4 of an idea for a song and said fuck it, that's good enough Favourite songs: Ain't No Use, Mr. Blues, Fall on You, Changes Least favourite songs: Sweet Ride (Never Again), Bitter Wind 2/5

I was only able to listen to 9 out of the 18 songs, Spotify would not play the others

Asså... Ok.

Absolutely nothing special. Inoffensive.

sorry I do not like it

This album stands out in the list of the average records because of how incredibly average and ordinary it is. After listening to it, I can't say anything about any of the songs - it just came and went, almost unnoticeable. A big waste of time. I bet there is a lot of random "quirky" bands in 60s and 70s, but it's really not worth listening to it today. Just let them die with dignity.

Man, this one was a struggle to find as a whole. It's like the same 60s sound I heard yesterday, but maybe more bluesy without being 100% 12-bar blues. 2*, but more enjoyable than the Sonics. Enjoyed: Lazy me

It's the kind of album that deserves a 2.5 I guess

Not for me. A lot of very short tracks that never really go anywhere.

Well produced album with some skillful playing but ultimately a little flat

There is just no way this album deserves to be on this list. So so so much better stuff from the decade. Never heard of them, no cultural relevance. This is my biggest gripe with this challenge. So much of it is so mediocre with no hook to why it was interesting at the time.

meh. album really has a late sixties sound. So if you like that 67 sound, this is the album for you. But that's the total identity (\"1967 sound\") this album has for me. usually listen on tidal, but their Moby Grape album is messed up. only has tracks 14-18 from a bonus album, so those songs aren't even on the original album. So listened on youtube.

Nothing about this really stands out to me besides it being a 60s rock album. Also could only find it on youtube.

I liked the sound, but I didn't particularly enjoy any song.

Got what I expected: okay it didn't sound awful but it was nothing new at all. Same old 60s rock which I feel I have heard a bajillion times. Also the whole album wasn't on spotify which a lot of the time is enough said. Not sure if it is at all influential for this list.

Sadly most of this album was not available on Spotify. Only the following songs were available for streaming: Mr. Blues 8:05 Indifference Rounder Looper Bitter Wind Sweet Ride These guys were new to me. I love the west coast 60's sound also reminiscent of Gram Parson, The Flying Burrito Brothers, early Grateful Dead, etc. How have I never heard of this band before? I do like their sound and will give a favorable review given how little I've heard. I would like to hear the rest of the album.

Honestly I thought it was kind of a boring, generic white boy band.

Workmanlike late 60s psych-rock. I'm sure in its day it was groundbreaking, but here they sound like also-rans.

Never really got into it

This is terrible.

Pouah... chiant un peu nan?!

Sounds like an average 60s album.

album niet compleet

Decent enough. Rolls along nicely, but mostly forgettable.

Slow and soft, probably won't listen again

It folksy, got bored.

Had a Yardbirds feel.

Never heard of them or any of their songs. A few good melodies but uneven vocals and genre contortions.

It was okay, seemed pretty generic

4 Songs are not playable on Spotify but the rest of the album was alright but it felt really short with them missing songs

Me lleva a otra época. Maomeno.

This is a hard one to find online! About 20 minutes to find somewhere with all the songs on it! It wasn't really worth the effort. The write up said that label and legal issues tanked their career and left this album a cult item... But honestly I think this passable San Fran psych did about as well as you'd expect from it's songs?

60s San Francisco soft rock. Sounds exactly like you would expect, and also a bit like the Byrds in places. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Hey Grandma Date listened: 20/06/23

Sadly this band's history is more interesting and more rock and roll than their music

Maybe because I had to flip back and forth between Spotify and Youtube, but I didn't find this all that interesting.

Less interesting than being g-raped by Moby

Nice psych/country/garage fusion, but also pretty damn typical of the late 60s. I kinda liked it, but it didn't really need to be on this list. Just barely misses the 3 stars for me.

Just fine.

This band was not going to be the next Beatles. This is boring. And while I feel bad for what happened to them, they are not very good musically.

A majority of this album is not available on Spotify and based on the few songs that are I don't really think it's worth tracking down the rest of them. Not my vibe.

Not bad but not for me.

There are definitely some nice moments in this album, especially the acoustic guitar and vocal harmonies. The songwriting very much passes me by though.

Moby Grape has some promise but ultimately disappoints. Good energy, not enough stuff that makes me want to stick around. 2.

Had I arrived at the keg party in the woods in high school and heard this, I would have been psyched for a good night. Now…meh.

Kinda generic, it’s like all 60’s bands rolled into one. Reminds me of the Beatles at times, the who, the dead and the singer sort of reminds my of joe cocker in a couple moments. Not terrible but some of the guitar playing and drumming was a little annoying

It's not so bad, just old

Pleasant and all but very little to grasp. The general sound is good - but the record is forgotten the minute it stops playing. Maybe it needs further listens but with the same amount of attention as all other records are given - this falters.

Man this was exhausting to get through

He's a bit melodramatic? I feel like I could have lived in the 60s. Music is limited in scope. Didn't have to go too far down the dial to get the same thing.

Dated harmony heavy psychedelic rock. It doesn't hold up for me and there's little here to keep me engaged. Lazy Me is OK.

Oh wow late 60s psychedelia, fucking shock me. 2.5/5.

Þetta er allt í lagi, svo sem. Kveikir ekkert í mér.

Too happy

Dated Folk Rock.

Very much reflective of the era in which it was recorded, and very skilled writers and performers. Too psychedelic in its recording and production for my listening tastes -- my never-ending bizarre contradiction as a long-time wanna-be hippie -- but that's just my own aural bias.

It is certainly music… not too much distinct between it and many late 60s groups, though. Not bad but not standout. 4/10

Very rock & roll and nothing else, but not my cup of tea... Nothing exceptional that made me like the genre or any extra power coming from the album.... 2.5/5

Not much to say about this one. Felt like nothing special honestly. Favorite Song: Omaha

Ok, but a bit forgettable.

boy idk this is boring and fine

Just not as good as other big bands in 60s

There isn't muich to comment on here. It's a 60s rock album. It doesn't offend, but then it isn't setting my world alight either. It's fine.

Really really really average 60s rock. I didn't hear anything particularly memorable or genre-defining. The best song is 55 seconds long. Spotify doesn't even have the full album, had to scour Youtube for the rest.

Sounded like a 60s movie montage soundtrack. Ok but wont be back.
