boring too

Massive Attack's first album is just that: a first attempt. There are signs of greatness that would come later, but there are also still signs of trying to find an identity. Compared to what Mezzanine brought to the table, this feels like Massive Attack*Lite*

Nicht meins

I’ve never heard melancholy record scratches before. Not an album I enjoyed but I also listened on a Monday morning, which is probably not a good time to expose myself to unfamiliar things. The Big Wheel might be something I’d go back to.

It is cool to hear what the ‘trip hop’ genre is, but it is fairly repetitive to me. It feels like I’m watching another commercial.

So there was some coolness to this album. Shara Nelson is great, and everything she sang gave me the feels, she was terrific! When the guys sang it was just so blah, especially compared to Shara. It was just so vastly different that it made their songs feel emotionless and uninspired. Hymn of the Big Wheel and Unfinished Sympathy. Overall the lyrics seemed really obvious, which at times was nice but then other times just made the songs a little boring. There were also a lot of cliche lines pulled from other songs (did like the Fiddler on the Roof nod though). I liked the music, and there were some great beats and vibe. It was cool to hear the beginning of trip-hop but if this is all it is, I don't know if I would go further into the sounds.

Sådär, intetsägande

Chill rap, but it all kinda blends together.

English electronic music that I know nothing about. I think Massive Attack was a big deal at the time? I don't know. This was not for me, hardly kept my attention.

Nothing that is really catching my ear in particular.

Good alternative band, throughout the 90’s-2000’s. Invite sound, and songs.

2 alright electronic hip hop nothing special. Favorite songs: hymn of the big wheel

This sort of music has rarely been my thing and Massive Attack is no exception.

I know a lot of people who like this. I'm not one of them but to be fair I'm not sure I was able to listen to this in its true form.

🎧If this is considered top notch trip hop then I officially don’t like trip hop

i have noticed some of the bits, beats and pieces that have been resampled in other pieces, so credit where credit is due, it seemed like it was influential. But listening to it freshly today did not convince me of its legendary status.

Niet mijn muziek, maar kan zien waarom het zo goed gevonden wordt

Massive Mid

More than anything else, this feels like the inspiration for some Lonely Island songs. For that I am grateful. For the actual music here, though, I found it a bit dated and more than a bit annoying. It gave me a headache, so it's verging on one star territory. But I can see how people would be into this even if I'm not one of those people.

I prefer there later stuff

Loved it when it came out. 35 years later - meh. It sets a mood but that's about it. The best thing about this album is that it introduced me to Be Thankful For What You've Got. But listening to this after years of listening to William DeVaughn and Curtis Mayfield's versions, this one lands pretty flat.

Sort of bland, some nice beats/instrumentals but nothing stuck out to me, nothing particularly catchy. Vocals, while being sung by different vocalists were mostly forgettable, nothing really drawing me and keeping me engaged.

a vibe but didn’t feel like listening to the whole thing

Not bad but not good enough to keep listening to

Better than I anticipated. I would give it 2.5 stars

An odd mashup of genres. Not completely unenjoyable, but definitely not a type of music that I like. Wasn't really in the mood for it this week, which probably impacts the review.

Not a terrible album but nothing really stood out to me. Quite forgettable tbh.

So you’re looking for some weed, you hear about this guy who is a friend of a friend. As you walk into this apartment and you are slightly on edge and suspicious, you hear this atrociously mixed hip-hop and reggae blend of music. This immediately puts you in a funk and the drug dealer Darin is cool and all, but he pushes harder drugs on you. You say “no thanks” and leave. Glad to be out of the situation. Maybe if the music was better you would have stayed longer.

Not for me

James Bond nightfire soundtrack meets house meets hip hop? Very 90s. Not my style. Fuck Donald Trump

This is pretty cool for 1991. I definitely hear how they influenced bands like the Gorillaz. I didn’t know the date of the album and my first take was “wow these rhymes are wack!”. The early date gives them a bit of a pass. Little ages worse than rap flows. It’s nothing I’ll be coming back to, but it’s not hurting anyone.

This whole thing was really weird and I didn’t care for it.

Meh, didn't really do it for me.

Didn’t like

Undir niðri kraumaði eitthvað ofboðslega gott stöff sem braust út í Unfinished Sympathy á meðan restin daðraði við að vera gott og féll svo í rappgildru sem passaði ekki inn í lögin.

Not Banksy’s best work and not to my taste at all - bearable at best.

I liked the first minute, got annoyed relatively fast afterwards, the last song was okay

Did not enjoy

not really into it, had fun with a couple tracks, or maybe just unfinished symphony

I don’t think so

Nothing super exciting in this electronic album, maybe it just hasn't held up for me. 2*

ahead of it's time is an over-used cliche, but having been alive and listening to music in 1991, I can tell you this sound wasn't in the mainstream (i.e. college). It's a good album, but my ratings are too high in general. Since it's not my taste, I'm going to give it a 2, but only because it's not my taste. If you are a hip hop fan, you are likely to give this a higher number considering the frame of it all.

Not for me. Should stay in the malls of the 90s.

Again, one listen and you can tell what decade this was released. Not my favorite decade as far as music is concerned but alright.

Not very good. Overall, it sounds bland, and I found it boring. Also, this style of music almost always sounds dated (and bad).

Rock, HipHop, 1991 -> 2

# 320 - I don't love it, I don't hate it, I can listen to it, a couple of things stood out... but I still hate Rap!

It’s not terrible, it’s not good, would maybe have it on as background music, but probably wouldn’t listen to it much again. First track was fun

A few good tracks, but not for me.

tegen 1 song zeg ik ja, tegen een volledig album nee

OMG!! What greatness! It’s practically the 2nd coming of the Beatles!….meh, it’s really not that good. It has no sense of itself, sometimes it’s R&B, sometimes Motown, sometimes hip-hop, but always with the annoying fake music that is electronic sound. Nope, not great just grating.

Not my favorite album, it was good for background music but nothing really stood out

grunge

Didn’t love it. Nice mix of tracks, but nothing really grabbed my attention.

One decent track (Lately) One classic (Unfinished Sympathy) The rest are very of their time. Not my bag. 4/10

I think I missed the window on this album as its influence is widespread and other bands have done better things with the genre. Above all, it was very boring. I also lost count of how many times they name-dropped their own band name. That was a huge annoyance.

I liked the first song but that‘s about it. The rest can stay in the 90s.

Not for me.

Massively mediocre.

I fear not for me. Trip hip doesn’t do it for moi. But cool music and obviously well made.

this sucks

I feel like I could've skipped this album and not missed much. There were a couple cool tracks with good backing beats and grooves, but by and large the cadence and rhymes resembled something from a kids' YouTube channel about safety tips and lessons. I appreciated some of the crossover of musical styles, but this was a pretty boring listen for the most part for me. Notable Tracks: - Be Thankful For What You've Got - Five Man Army 4/10

From the first song, I was fairly certain this wasn't going to be a winner for me. I didn't care for the main vocalist's voice, the synthetic drum beats felt glaring and tired, and none of the lyrics really spoke to me (tbf, I was listening to this during work though so I didn't listen very intently). There were a few songs that I caught myself bopping along to as I worked though, so there's something inherently catchy about their beats at times. The rap flows were also a little reminiscent to ATCQ, with smooth playful ups and downs, so there's another small redemption. All in all, I don't see myself listening to this one again, but I appreciate the influence it had (and that I now know that "trip hop" is a thing).

Pretty cool, but in today’s time maybe not as exciting anymore. I’m not so sure what to make of it.

Listened via Youtube in order to hear original master, since the 2012 is also a reMIX (kinda wish streaming services would stop replacing originals with remasters). I intended to compare the original to the 2012 mix/remaster but the album didn't compel me to me listen twice.

I’ve always wanted to like this but it’s one great song surrounded by stuff I don’t like.

I don't mind it but it's trip hop so fairly mellow. I'm not going to day lift music but chill out background music maybe.

Pretty "meh" in my opinion, even more so than Protection was. I likely won't listen to this one again. 2.4/5

Another Massive Attack album I don't get. I think most triphop isn't for me. Nothing specifically is bad, and I liked a few of the tracks more than others, but overall as a package, I'm not interested. 2/5

It wasn't great. It wasn't worst. Just was an okay album.

If Mudhoney is on the best side of 1991, this would have to be on the worst. Why did they decide to take the worst parts of some great genres and mash it up into something awful?

Better than the other Massive Attack album but mid. 2.22

It has one or two ok songs.

I wanted to like it, honest, but it is just so boring

This is fine for 90s electronica, which might be my least favorite genre.

Sounds like what I would hear at the Hyatt Place lobby bar.

Interesting blend of electronic and other influences.

Probably kind of innovative as a fusion of styles at the time. Surprisingly I didn’t care for it.

This is one of those albums that were always around me, but I've never had an interest to listen to, and now I know why. I just don't think I ever did enough pot to get this. can't dance to it, not enough of substance to have to understand. it's just background music to do drugs to.

Nothing really stood out to me here, in that it played like 1 1/2 times before I noticed. I didn't mind any of it, but it's not my regular fare.

Why wasn't this Mezzanine instead? I acknowledge I'm biased because Mezzanine was the first Massive Attack album I listened to, on the recommendation of probably some LiveJournal internet friends who didn't actually read my blog I was just fascinated with them because they were people who lived in cities and were older than me, but I really didn't think that this album was as varied and as interesting overall as Mezzanine. Another history lesson that I would know about if I had the book? A mystery for the ages.

Overall a decent album. Some fun and engaging beats without being too repetitive from song to song. Though it does fall victim to the same trapping that every electronic song seems to have: the songs themselves are way too long. There is no reason any of these songs should be longer than 3 mins. Which is a shame, because good songs can become annoying very fast if they go on without a purpose. Top tracks: Safe From Harm, Unfinished Sympathy

A bit of a boring listening experience.

Some dub beats, nice remix of be thankful for what u got, good vibe but fades into background for me

Not necessarily my bag but it was alright.

Interesting for 1991, didn't age that well

Not for me

May have been at the spawn of a genre but I found this one quite tedious 4/10

Great first track then it's Stumble of the Conchords. Favourite track: Safe From Harm.

Can't remember a song and I listened to it yesterday.

Background music

Finally remember what these guys remind me of - Flight of the Convords. Except this is not funny. At least this record is a little better than the last one. I suppose I’ll give it a 3. Just finished. Changed my mind. This is a 2. So corny.

Man...my hate-on for electronic music continues. Trip-hop just isn't my thing. I wish I could love Massive Attack. I know they're hugely influential and legends at what they do, but this album bored me. It was a chill listen, I guess, it just felt long even at only 45 minutes. The final track was my favourite of the bunch. But the whole thing just felt sort of underwhelming and monotonous.

I don’t have much to say about this, other than the “2” on the album cover is rather prophetic. I kind of liked the groove of the title track.

I can appreciate that this albums starts the creation of the new trip-hop sub genre, but overall it was a pretty boring listen. Some of the sounds and grooves were interesting, but guest vocalist Horace had a vibrato so wide you could drive a semi through it, which was more annoying to listen to than some of the slow tempos. I’ll pass. More like passive attack.

Was expecting a lot more out of this based on the way some artists point to them as inspiration. But didn’t hear what I expected to hear, and was mostly just bored.

I didn’t really enjoy this.

Well every song sounded unique, but that isn't necessarily a good thing. Honestly just a pretty boring listen that I don't need to hear again. 4.5/10 (2.25/5)

I enjoyed the beats and production aspect of it. But its not something I’d come back to

Kind of all over the place. I'd give it a 2.5 if I could.

Blue Lines, Five Man Army, Daydreaming, and Hymn of the Big Wheel are all great tracks; however, the other songs, especially the first two, are borderline painful to listen to.

I think Massive Attack's music had more of an upbeat, active vibe than I thought it would have but it was still tough for me to sink my teeth into it. The addition of vocals provided a layer on top but I've gotten so tired of rapping for some reason.

First listen Saved 3/9 Top track: Blue Lines

Pretty unremarkable.

Pretty cool for 91' hip-hop. I'm not sure I knew Massive Attack was rap. I thought they were some sort of electronic music.

I appreciate more than like this band.

Just didn’t like it

1. zafe from harm - 1.5 2. one love - 1 3. blue linez - 1.5 4. thankful - 1 5. five man army - 1.5 6. zympathy - 2 7. daydreaming - 1 8. lately - 1 9. hymn - 0

Not a big fan of electronica, including of the hip-hop variety. This was still a pleasant enough listen, but not one I'm likely to want to return to.

Another one that I knew nothing about going in. It was OK to listen to as background noise and better than I thought it was going to be when I first started it but I don't think I would play it again.

Definitely a record that sounds like 30 plus years ago. That’s not a bad thing or a good thing, just not my thing. Lyric sampling Beatle George was unexpected & appreciated. Great name for a band.

Interesting

To be honest it reminded me of ASMR get focused music playlists and the music is fairly undistinguishable from one song to the next. Except the House theme

It is for someone, but not me. Found it boring.

It was just there. The dial did not much. I tolerated it.

Listenable but not really my taste in music. The rap parts are what ruin it for me.

cool and i see how it might be influential but not for me

Forgettable

I understand that this album was groundbreaking in its time and place, and in my opinion the blending of electronic, rap, and reggae among other genres kind of works. However, this album is absolutely not to my taste and the vocals do almost nothing for me. 2.3 stars

This should have been a single, with Track 1 on the A-Side, and Track 7 on the B-Side. I thought this would be pretty good after the first track, but yet again, British pop disappointment began to run through my veins. With a band name like Massive Attack, I'm expecting some hard-hitting s***. This was not that.

I did not like this

I swear to you everytime I get an electronic album I really try. For its efforts though I will say this album is a rather funky affair. Even if it isn’t for me.

This has a decent score on this site and I don't get it. I didn't hate this one like I did Protection but that still isn't saying much. The music itself is okay but the singing is annoying and sounds dated. This sounds like the 90s in a way I don't care for at all, but if you told me this was influential, I would believe it.

My recollection was of a better album. There are only 2 tracks of note. 1 an all time classic. The rest are so weak lyrically.

Good album

It's OK. All the beats and volume are relatively monotone. Very 90s. I would not seek out. 2/5

Rock nada de mais

Nej. Usch vad tråkigt. Varje låt låter som ett mellanspel i nån dålig poplåt från 90-talet

Always had the inkling Massive Attack were overrated from the little I've heard from them, and this album solidifies it. So many skippable tracks

I liked some of the beats, but it was mostly very slow and boring and I really didn't care for any of the vocals.

If British toddlers made an album. "her touch tickles especially on my tummy"

Would have been better without the shitty vocals.

I’m usually a sucker for this kind of music, but I found it so annoying. Each song annoyed me more than the last one did.

A difinitive 2.

Not for me.

Ganz OK aber nix für mich.

The latter half of the album really started to feel like a lonely island skit...

I like massive attack. But this album didn't do it for me. I generally like this kind of music. Their 98 album is better.

Not usually the kind of music I'd listen to, and would probably not listen again. The effects of the music were kinda cool and groovy but the songs got repetitive and I found didn't really have any substance or anything I could connect with. The vocal delivery was strange, at time I felt the vibrato was weird(oscillating in sound rather than pitch? It was just strange) but I suppose the phrasing was creative? I didn't really enjoy this album but I do think the music was interesting in a way.

Not my thing, techno and yet it felt too slow

2.5 stars. A little bit slow and downbeat. Gets a bit reggae-ish at times. Standout is "Unfinished Sympathy".10

Sehr ruhig

Boring 😴

I've enjoyed Massive Attack albums but this one was not one of them.

Its a unique album but I can't say this sound aged well for me. Mainly the vocal style was not for me. Interesting production though.

The album cover is pretty modern feeling. At first breathe, I immediately disliked this album. Songs oscillated between 1 and 2 stars in enjoyment for me. SOME of the raps were enjoyable to me but much more of the album made me genuinely angry. I truly hated One Love and Five Man Army. Be Thankful For What You've Got reminded me of Sade. I did not mind Daydreaming.

"trip hop", steady but not heavy beats under "casual" vocals

Not my favorite massive attack album.

Meh and forgettable. None of the songs grabbed me. Not the worst thing I’ve listened to on this list, but it wasn’t very good either.

More lofi beats to relax/study too. Once again, fine as background music, but ultimately not for me.

I didn't love this. I would occasionally find myself getting lost in a groove but then the vocals would distract me. I can't see myself dancing to this or it playing in a bar/restaurant or even seeing this live.

I had higher hopes for this album and was left a bit disappointed. I recognize and understand its importance in the development of the trip hop genre, as it sounds like something that came 5+ years later than it actually did. But I just did not enjoy it too much.

Unfamiliar with this group. Not bad.

Hat etwas, wenn man sich darauf einlässt! 5.3/10

This brings you back. I had never heard the term “trip hop” prior to listening to the album today. Good chill music.

I was done after the first two minutes of each track. Five Man Army is pretty good, but has 3 filler minutes at the end.

Sounded like I was in a dark underground club...the kind with red lighting, fancy cocktails, and def jam poetry. Hit me right off the bat but I quickly grew tired of the singing and wanted more good beats. Finished with a pretty good one but overall not leaving an impression. Establishing their own sound but not sure I'm in. I love Angel from Snatch so expected more from this...

So far, not enjoying it

Album 291 of 1001 Massive Attack - Blue Lines Rating : 2 / 5 Offers more than many of the "Electronica" albums but still just "meh".

The vocals and lyrics are almost too cheesy to bear in the first two songs. Does every song just repeat the same lyrics over and over while mostly just playing the same beat in the background? Every now and then I hear a cool change to the beat or a new sample or something but overall it’s just the same thing over and over. This would be pretty decent study or work music because it's smooth and chill and repetitive but I can't see myself ever wanting to listen to it intentionally. I've never been much of a trip hop fan though. Five Man Army stands out.

Interesting, but I didn’t like the singer’s style/voice.

Nice beat. Talking, like hip hop. Lost people, wandering, wondering, a bit down and out. Be Thankful for What You've Got is a good song.

Not my genre, 90s British Hip Hop.

Solid chill album for a rainy day. Wouldn’t be a major album in rotation. Lots of cool vibes still

This album was fine but not what I was imaging based on the group's name and artwork. I'd never heard Massive Attack before, I knew the name but always assumed they were more on the punk side of things. I know it's no good to judge a book by it's cover but I was really hoping for more of a unique punk hip-hop vibe to this album and what it is is just real mellow, kind of boring (in my opinion) trip hop. I didn't hate anything on this album, just found it rather unoriginal and too similar from track to track. Standout Tracks: Blue Lines, Be Thankful for What You've Got, Hymn of the Big Wheel

Relaxed Trip-Hop, perfect for elevators and shopping-malls. I cannot see why it is in the 1001!

Some gems here, but most of the album didn't connect with me.

Not too much of a fan. Clearly a 90s album. Some decent stuff but overall meh

Definitely early 90s R &B feel

Nice new experience for me

Maybe I’m just not in a trip-hop mood, but this album is mostly a miss for me. Some songs stand out, like Blue Lines. But other songs, like One Love, are like nails on a chalkboard. I appreciate some of the components of this album - Shara Nelson’s vocals, for instance - but others, like the relentless and unchanging drumbeat throughout, keep me on edge. I feel jittery listening to the album and I can't relax into the music. I don’t think that’s the intention. There is a unique sound to this album and it seems like it should be enjoyable - but it isn't, for me.

Not my favorite, but cool and interesting. The rap sections were fun and flowy.

Not my thing

I like the band, but I don't like this album.

not for me

Boring. Just.. there. Good background music. Opening song was the best then became a huge disappointment.

Ok-ish

The music is fine, but having a different singer on each track makes it sound like a v.a. compilation, Massive Attack's production is too bland to have a strong unifying force.

Pleasant with nice sampling. Rapping is a bit odd, though. Stratus right up front was a surprise. Good background music for mundane tasks but that's about it for me anyway. Maybe I haven't heard the right Trip Hop album yet or I just don't get into this style of music.

Not a fan. I added the first track but I may remove it, not sure if it has staying power. Overall, I could see how big fans of the genre might like it, but ultimately, it just wasn't for me.

I'm sure it was cool at the time

This is better than some techno in this list. It's let repetitive and doesn't have the same bpm in every song. But there aren't any stand outs here for me either.

Not for me

Never clicked with this genre of ambient background music, always sounds like they built the foundations of a song and didn't add any of the ideas that are actually interesting. Unfinished sympathy is by far the best song and is the only time this approach seems to come together in any way. Wasn't a painful listen but it's just so dull.

I was a bit disappointed with this - I'm a big fan of Heligoland, it was one of my study-in-the-library albums. None of the songs on this first release caught my attention at all, sadly. Unfinished Sympathy is decent.

This album largely passed me by while I was listening to it. It felt like the album never really got going. Highlights: Five Man Army Unfinished Sympathy

Agree with the other guys. It's just not that interesting. Fine as background music I guess but nothing more. Unfinished symphony by far the best track.

Vibey album, maar te eentonig om echt goeie nummers te hebben (behalve de laatste die is vuur)

Somewhat a decent album, never listened to massive attack before and I don't think I'll add them to my repertoire but I didn't actively dislike it. Best song - Blue lines (is the start of this what Wiz and snoop sampled?)

HOUSE GUYS, but pretty boring and no Teardrop in this album. 3/10

I guess this was important to "trip-hop?" Listened to remastered version on tidal. meh.

Meh. I liked the rhythm, didn't like the rapping. First song reminded me of Blast Off by Gesaffelstein. Though there wasn't a climax in the song, which is frustrating to listen to after all the build up.

It's okay musically. May be a bit chaotic at times (especially for the early 90s) but it doesn't really appeal to me. Not a fan of the singing, the production is good I guess, but the style/instrumentation is not appealing to me. A solid 2/5

This is kind of boring to me and really isn't my thing. In the 90s I thought this was what music would sound like in the future, but now it just sounds like a 90s sci Fi movie soundtrack throwback...something like Strange Days.

Definitely ahead of its time - but I just can't shake that Massive Attack are one of those bands I should absolutely love based on my listening preferences... but more often than not it just washes over me. That's usually most true of the rapping/vocal tracks, in particular the title track - I think that's where this record is held back and shows its age a little. Unfinished Symphony is a solid gold classic, though.

Well done, but not my jam

Not my favorite. Drums are pretty much the same on each song.

I genuinely tried but track 3 really burned all the good will I had from the House theme song.

Very 90s vibe from this first album - sounds good, but definitely not something that I feel like listening to again.

So much potential, but ultimately disappointing

Is Massive Attack actually good compared to other 90s acts?

ehh really not my thing. I liked a couple songs but wouldn't come back to it. I guess never having been exposed to it before I need to take some time to be able to appreciate it

Found it hard to get through any of these songs

Unfinished Sympathy is pretty good. But this just isn't my thing

This album was an odd one. An unusual mix of samples, hip hop beats and off beat lyricism, I could get why this album was well received in the early 90s. Compared to a lot of the other hip hop coming out at this time in America, it’s clear that this is America’s genre. Some lyrics played off of like nursery rhymes and generic one liners like “don’t put all your eggs in one basket” and it just came across at corny. Overall worth the listen but according to their Wikipedia, the next few albums get better so maybe I’ll give them another listen. Also, I know the bands name is “Massive Attack” and one of the dude’s names is Daddy G, but there is a song where the words say “oh daddy” and then say “massive” really loud a couple of times. It just caught me off guard is all and is probably not supposed to be funny, but I laughed. Stand out track: Safe From Harm (female singer needs a raise, she was my favorite part)

I think I would prefer this without vocals, it's got cool beats though. The reggae parts made me remember Skindred and find out they released an album not long ago (and it's a solid one, give it a shot if you're in a nu-metal wave again)

I'm starting to think Massive Attack isn't for me.

2/5 Best: Unfinished Sympathy Worst: One Love

Interesting collection of sounds 🤔

Production was dope. Didn’t like the features.

No me moló

The first few songs I immediately hated everything. But to be honest they got slightly better and more tolerable. Not anywhere close to something I’d listen to often, but to the point where one of the songs got a little stuck on my head. They definitely progressed as the album went on.

It wasn't bad, but every song was so different I couldn't even tell what genre it was supposed to be.

Diamonds in the back, ludacris song was the best one on album. The rest were forgettable.

Elevator music for sure

Not a fan

Dated vocals but I like the dank, reggae dub instrumentals. Probably wouldn't listen to again but wouldn't switch it off either.

Definitely new millennium vibes. It's okay but boring

I feel like I should’ve liked that more than I did. Maybe if I was a twenty something in London when it dropped it would have blown my mind, but I don’t know. I’m learning I’m not a massive trip hop head.

Not a big fan of triphop needed to be on some sort of drug to enjoy this

Auch wenn hier und da coole Momente drin sind, ist es einfach nix für mich

Influential perhaps, but not for me. And I should be subtracting 1 star every time groups mention their own name.

Taas tätä pussailumusiikkia. Tää levy on niin rento, että tuntuu jo vittuilulta. En itse osaa edes villeimmissä (vai tšilleimmissä, hehheh) unelmissaan olla näin rento.

what is that supposed to be

Like it

- was expecting metal based on the name? Not what I got haha - not the biggest fan of his voice. A lot of odd noises? Not for me

I don't feel attacked, it was rather underwhelming

It was ”huh” I guess

Showed everything misled about the early 90s scene in Britain. All style no substance, godawful rapping and cringeworthy lyrics. Unfinished Sympathy was a killer single at least. A dissapointing record.

Apart from.unfinished sympathy, not a lot to shout about

Ugh. Our second from Massive Attack, and it's also not Mezzanine. I just looked and apparently we don't get Mezzanine on here at all, which is their most memorable album. What's with that? I sort of liked the other album, this one was a snoozefest. "One Love" was laughable. I almost made it through the album without saving a singe track, that's how forgettable this was. I can't say it was terrible, but it's just too dated for me. Meanwhile Mezzanine isn't even on this list. If it were up to me, this one (and possibly the other as well) would be cut from the list, to be replaced by Mezzanine and some more meaningful album from another artist. Boring. Favorite tracks: Lately. Album art: Their name on a hazard label. Looks like the kind of "photoshop" I do on Paint that's purposely bad. 2/5

decepción absoluta

Not for me

Not as bad as I thought it would be, but not exactly good either. Just not for me.

notes - debut album by massive attack - attributed as the first trip hop album/bristol sound - blending elements of the british electronic music scene with a slower spookier aesthetic - the music definitely has a consistent mood - the vocals…. not so much - a lot of the vocals and lyrics i felt distracted from the songs with a couple exceptions - would have preferred this album instrumental which is not something i often think fav - be thankful for what youve got - vocals actually felt like they fit here least fav - one love - the keyboard throughout this song is quite annoying & i feel like the vocals dont fit the vibe 2.5/5 - not that mind-blowing but a taste of what’s to come

Tried listening in highschool but couldn't get into them. 2stars

Thought I would like it more but was not what I was expecting

This was all over the place and hard to really get into and vibe with.

i didn’t find this album terribly creative or innovative. sure, it was the first of its kind in the trip hop genre, but it relied all too much on electronic music. it just didn’t grab me at all. i did get some slight prince vibes, but it was in the sense it was second rate. there was a certain male voice that was rather whiny, and not in a good way. i enjoyed the female voice (shara nelson, unless if i’m mistaken); she had quite a voice, one i must describe as alluring.

This made for some good background music, but I honestly just wasn't that into it. What I liked was the dichotomy between the ambient and surreal vocals when put against the very dark trip-hoppy music. Sometimes more ambient albums like this can kind of blur into one big mass for me, and that kind of happened here.

This album has a lot of great, chill vibes. At first it sounded pretty unremarkable, but after a few listens, it sounds like some good beats to relax to. However, it still sounds kind of run of the mill

Didn’t enjoy it much. A couple of good tracks though.

It’s fine, just not a fan of electronica

Not my favorite

I understand why it was an important album but I didn't like it 2/5

Not sure about it. Didn't do much for me really. A few highlights here and there, but nothing special/groundbreaking. Don't even have a few songs that stood out for me.

Hmmm. I guess they were still finding their tune in this one. Not my piece of cake.

Not bad as background music, but not really my thing.

I just think I’m not cool enough for it

The most mediocre an album can get, but what else did you expect when the British attempt hip hop????

Wasn't familiar with this group or album before. I enjoyed some of the beats and can appreciate the smooth, almost whisper like vocal delivery. Regardless it's not my type of music.

2 Kinda boring. It sounds like menu music from an old Xbox Live Arcade game. Might’ve been cool without the vocals but I’m afraid that would just make it house music. It’s like it was made with the expressed purpose for a DJ to remix it. It’s right on the edge of interesting for me. Also British rapping makes me feel weird. Favorites include: Blue Lines, Be Thankful for What You’ve Got

Not for me.

Not for me but I could see its appeal to some

Some parts of this were definitely interesting, but overall this just doesn't do it for me. Was leaning towards a 3, but tbh it's worse than that.

J'avais en lançant cet album pour image de Massive Attack celle d'un groupe pour bobos parisiens. Je ne me suis encore une fois pas trompé, cet album était d'une nullité sans nom, absolument fade comme le train de vie de ledits bobos parisiens.

Nothing here spoke to me. It was fine being in the background but I could never pull it to the foreground. Like it was afraid of the spotlight.

It's still neither Massive nor Attacky, but I liked it better than the last one. It's good background music.

Some good drum beats on offer here, but the song styles just aren't that interesting or melodic.

Went in wanting to like it, but got bored quick. Good background music.

Not a great album. Very jazz heavy. I like their album Mezzanine way more.

what if mike skinner was a boring cringey cunt with no talent?

The “FLAMMABLE GAS” fire hazard sign has the rating spot on. This is pleasantly boring.

Pretty Dull

really bland

It's remind me the old menu on 2000's video game that try to be young and cool. It was boring...

While this electronic album thankfully does have lyrics, their mediocrity does little to save this album

All a bit meh for me. Grabbed by maybe two tracks outside of unfinished.

Očekivao sam puno više, da nisam vjv bi bilo 3, ovak ne mog jednostavno.

Caught between the pull of early dancehall and soulful R&B, this LP lands smack dab in the disappointingly tepid middle. There are occasional flashes of the innovative production and sound design that would later characterize 'Mezzanine,' but here the highs aren't nearly frequent enough to keep the album from feeling like a chore.

Not for me.

Unfinished sympathy and hymn of the big wheel

Mi aspettavo qualcosa di diverso, in negativo. Va bene come sottofondo, niente di eccezionale. Tra il 2 e il 3 credo. 'Daydreaming' bella.

Nice atmosphere, especially Unfinished Sympathy and the songs after that are great. I see why this is a very influential album. I just don't like the sound op triphop drums, so it's not my thing

I feel like this album suffers from not aging well and the songs feel like parodies of this style of music. I was underwhelmed.

1st track had a great groove, but rest of the album didn't measure up

algumas musicas são repetitivas demais e com uma duração maior que o necessário

A bit like the previous album. One famous song. I didn't think there was anything else here of note...

There's not a lot on this album to grab the attention. It sounds quite dated and wears thin quite quickly, so doesn't even function well as background music. 1.5/5.

Really didn't like this. Found it quite irritating and was just ready for it to be done tbh! I feel like it wasn't so awful for a 1* though. An interesting mix of genres I guess, but it just didn't appeal

Nice beats and all but not really my thing. Almost like 90s experimental techno hip hop. 4/10.

It's alright ^^ Titles like "One Love" and "Lately" I found enjoyable.

Loved the first massive attack album I seen on here. This one, not yet. 2/5

Not a fan of most of the vocals, but the backing tracks were moody and interesting. Unfinished Sympathy was the best track.

Electrónica. Coñazo.

It was OK. I liked a few songs but didn't enjoy the overall experience. Nothing special.

It's eclectic for me. Weird in spots, great in others.

It doesn't sound like an attack, and it is not massive...

MotA: Unfinished Sympathy "Midnight rockers, city slickers / Gunmen and me yeah"

Not a big fan of the rap in this. The reggae is quite nice, but there isn't enough, it gets drowned. I also like the vocal samples from that lady, but it's still not enough
