Reviews (page 2 of 8)

I don't usually listen to this type of music but I was pleasantly surprised by it, I should listen to more electronic bands

Perfect album for me. A few stand out songs, cohesive, with enough diversity to keep you interested.

That was a really great album. Listen to it twice during the day and then once again at night with my girlfriend. Going to check out the movie as well.

"This doesn't work as an album" Only if you are weak of will lol

Love this album

Loved their album Moon Safari and this also didn't disappoint. While less vocals than Moon Safari I still feel that each instrumental had its own identity and it didn't feel like one long mash of melodies. As a fan of the book I also enjoyed the spoken word parts. It all felt very Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds - and that's a compliment from me.

i actually love this album. it’s so good

A vibe. Familiar with out being familiar. Always a fun listen.

Spotify Playlist played Massive Attack and then Tricky right after that. 5/5

Amazing

God absolutely beautiful album washing, ambient waves floating on your back in an electric ocean. Perfect mix of synthy Magic, brass and that big kazoo that uses a reed. That speech at the end is haunting. Never seen the movie, it’s on the list now.

Went into this one completely blind and really enjoyed it. Loved the groove and instrumetals

Fantastic!

Really enjoyed this album, some great songs that I will listen to frequently

Excellent

- very mysterios - deep - makes or helps you think - experimental i like it a lot!

Classic

This fucking slaps

Very good, liked all of the songs !

good maybe i'll watch a movie

Je me rappelle surtout du film. Bon soundtrack

Ahh I've heard of Air, maybe I know some songs too, not sure yet. The album cover is cool, inviting, makes me wanna listen to it. I do like the genre so I think it's gonna be good. Mm the Album name is fun too, wonder what it is about hm. Apparently it's a movie soundtrack too, I wonder if I should just watch the movie and then listen or vice versa. I watched the movie, mm liked it, and now soundtrack alone would be more nostalgic since it's been 2-3 says since I watched it. First song, this is very known the melody was quite familiar. There was noise when this was playing the movie so only later realized it. Anyway I fuck with this. Second song, sounds hella different in headphones, more production. Quite short, this was probably when she tried to kill herself an afterscene this is. Anyway I hope not to blabber too much about the movie. Electronicness is well shown. Third song, ambient start. Ahh that guitar riff, so good and unexpected. Mm good, it changed again at the end too. 4th song, don't remember this one, but that electrical beat is nice. Makes me wanna think deeply.. good when walking too. 5th song, the echo is so well done, I love how sound lingers somehow. Eerie yet in unbothered song. So short tho, not good but it is a soundtrack so. 6th song, didn't expect anything verbal here. Dam daam her voice stopping and pure chaos starting. This was fine, liked that they included it. 7th song, finally a longer song, so I can drift away. Loved the progression, and basically every second of this. 8th song, probably one of the best piano notes I have encountered. Just Incomparable. 9th song, always appreciating the headphone play. Somehow the left ear and the right both play the main of the song, well and the violin is also doing its goodness. 10th song, I feel like every song starts like it's a heart beat monitor. Loved how lightly dramatic it became with that additional melody. 11th song, I recognize this more than the ones before(except some). This is sooo well produced. 12th song, chaotic, don't remember what's happening here, plus it's the end too so hm. Ahh probably them getting in da house. Fatboy slim kind of shit. 13th song, this is scarier when you're walking at night and the that man shows up talking like that. Good that I watched the movie first tbh. Love that they included this in a song, I'm to tears eternally. 5 stars instantly, watching the movie and basically reliving it in a 6 minute song, but not only that, Air delivered the best soundtrack for this movie. I want more albums like this. Proud that they included this here mm.

I LOVE this stuff

Beautiful!

This album flowed so smoothly. Mystical and romantic at the same time. It felt soft, sad, and a little surreal. Perfect for a train ride when you just want to sink into the background and let your thoughts wander.

Not my Sexy Boy but I enjoyed it.

I’ve always been a fan of this album ever since I first saw the film. The soundtrack fits perfectly with the film’s atmosphere and the quiet monologues. It’s melancholic, beautiful, and almost hypnotic in the way it supports the story. You can’t really get the full experience of this album without having seen the movie, the two are inseparable. 5/5

That was a vibe! I have never heard of this movie but it sounds sadder and less relaxing than this album

Where has this been all my life

Very enjoyable and a pleasant surprise. Felt like a fusion of several bands of the time and of the 90s mixed into one. Just really great overall.

For the girls

Weird having a movies soundtrack on here, but it's still an amazing album. Far from my favorite Air album tho, feels like they've got a few that'd deserve to be on here over this.

A soundtrack that drifts like a fading memory through lavender light and suburban shadows. Air’s 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘝𝘪𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘯 𝘚𝘶𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴 isn’t just a companion to Sofia Coppola’s film — it’s a complete emotional language: hushed, eerie, and heartbreakingly beautiful. Every track hums with melancholy and quiet tension, like you’re eavesdropping on someone else’s dream. No other band could make teenage despair sound this luxurious. Only one complaint: 𝟣𝟢 𝟢𝟢𝟢 𝘏𝘻 𝘓𝘦𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘥 might have been the more daring choice for the 1001 list. But 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘝𝘪𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘯 𝘚𝘶𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴? Still timeless. Still haunting. Still perfect. 𝗜’𝗺 𝗯𝗶𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗯𝘂𝗺 𝙞𝙨 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱.

Smooth as heck

Heerlijk album.

Perfect soundtrack to a perfect movie. Eerie, ethereal, lush - completely gorgeous and strikes the perfect tone for the subject matter. Air are truly the masters of their genre.

Between this and the Tron: Legacy soundtrack by Daft Punk, I'm inclined to let French electronic duos score nearly every movie until the universe grows cold in its heat death rattle. Listen, I don't make the rules, but I'm damn sure going abide by them...

Wordless, nostalgic, electronic, very captivating sound

Had heard of the band but never heard a song by them. Thought it was good. Would I listen to it again probably, the songs were easy to listen to and not a hard listen. Very 90s sound.

Dead Bodies

Allez hop, bravo.

Low key, this is kind of a great album. Shocked me, one of the best movie soundtracks I ever heard. Soothing intro that turns into a calming instrumental album.

5/5 I need to watch this

Longest 44 minutes of my life

insane

Ta bueno

This was a nice surprise, although a popular album, I had never come across it (I was out of lots of loops for 12 months around 1999/2000 - Just like I didn't know what The Blair Witch Project was!) So this album was completely overlooked! I love it! Im a sucker for a soundtrack album anyhow, but combine it with the band Air and 'I'm IN!' I absolutely loved the last track 'Suicide Underground' and recognised lots of Air 'Notes' scattered throughout the album. I wish I had found this one earlier! I'm back to bump this up to 5 - need it on my playlist!

Bathroom girl sounds like fortnite theme, Playground love is a classic banger goes hard,

Gear: DCA ÆON 2 Noire Mix: analog, authentisch, ausgeglichen. Musik: Fantastique! \"Ghost Song\", \"Empty House\") - wer sagt, \"The Virgin Suicides\" wäre kein Horrorfilm? Wertung: 🌹🌻🌼🌷(🌺)/5

This was nice, listened to their other albums too!

Fantastic soundtrack to a great film. Loved this when it came put and enjoyed hearing it again

What can I say. Air are amazing. This album is a feast of incredible audio and sounds. Compared to Moon Safari this blends electronics with jazz, prog rock, rock, trip hop, and lots more and is brilliantly experimental. The drum and bass tracks are awesome. The stereo soundstage is addictive. I can hear influences from Pink Floyd and Portishead in particular but executed in a very original Air way. A fantastic album. More please!! :)

This is a solid 5 star album regardless of the spellbinding film it goes with. I like the way the tracks drift along with snippets of dialogue. The music is electronic and dreamy and if you like this you should listen to Moon Safari and Talkie Walkie too. Just beautiful music. Suicide Underground is quite unsettling and morbid.

5 stars purely for nostalgia, loved this album to death when I was a wee teen

Used to listen to this all the time in the early 2000s. Great soundtrack that perfectly compliments the film it was written for that also works as a standalone album.

How the fuck does this show up as I'm currently reading the book?! And I rewatched the film the other day. And now this soundtrack. I love.

I just love this website, there's something so enthralling about trying music I probably wouldn't've stumbled upon otherwise. That said, I surprised myself by actually really liking this album, or more so the score of a movie I had never even heard about. It's very melodic, dreamy, eerie and pleasant to listen to, can totally imagine studying to it. Also the vibe of the bassline in Highschool Lover just, *mwah*, does it for me. Of course it's a bit disjointed, as it wasn't made to be a studio album. Might add this movie to my endless watchlist. Anyway, I'm tired.

This one remains in my semi regular rotation. Five star mood intensifier. Epitome of cool. I can only imagine being a fly on the wall in that room while Air was spitballing for this. Did they read the book? How did they come to that playground love riff? Sexy, grounded, ebbing, flowing, feeling. The saxophone gets me every time. This soundtrack elevates and transcends it's source.

Loved this!

First time that I have listened to a soundtrack from a movie, that made me really want to watch it. Very soft and gentle melodies, quite melancholic arrangement, but some ominous overtones are very visible. Opening song is obviously the best example of that, such a great track, instantly it goes to my daily playlist. Second album from Air on this list, but both releases are so diametrically different from each other, its actually amazing how diverse their sound can be. Excellent record, very easy 5/5.

Big fan of Air since Moon Safari and this movie/soundtack blew my mind when it came out. You know it's a good soundtrack when you can picture the movie while listening to the album although it's been a hot minute since I've seen the movie. Playground Love does stand out as standalone track but the rest of the album is basically one piece. To choose a favourite for this exercise, The Word Hurricane, because I like clouds :)

I have a LOT of nostalgia for this - saw the movie during uni and listened to this quite a bit after - it's perhaps a bit redundant to have this and "Moon Safari" on the list, but what the hell, I'll allow it. Fave track - eh, "Dirty Trip" maybe? Doesn't really make a lot of sense to break this one down to individual tracks...

10/10 one of the coolest movie soundtracks of all time My personal favorite movie soundtracks are Fantastic Planet (1973) and Anatomy of a Murder (1959), but I still think this album is fantastic

Never heard of this movie somehow. Absolutely LOVE this. It makes me want to watch the movie now. A mix of shoegaze/dreampop, psychedelic rock, some funky electro in there. Really, really cool.

This is great. Loved it.

Easy 5. Classic movie, classic soundtrack. Haunting, intriguing listen.

Great soundtrack for a pretty good movie

Wow, incredibly moody and dark, I need to check out the movie. The consistency throughout with the musical themes at play while still changing enough track to track to elicit a new energy is exciting, and I particularly liked rolling into Highschool Lover to find a toned down instrumental of Playground Lover. The final track as a distorted voice retelling the plot is an interesting bow on this album. Poetic and somber reminiscence that really retroactively fills in the edges of the album.

Absolutely love this. Hypnotic, spectral with traces of Meddle-era Pink Floyd in places. Having never heard Air I am definitely going to check out more of their stuff

Hm Air, sounds familiar. I like the album art. Vocals just started. I thought it would be a female singer. It's not. I like it! Suits my mood today. Yeah really digging this actually! Cemetary Party (interesting spelling) is cool! It sounds cinematic to me. Like it could be the background for some movie scene. I love the eeriness of Dark Messages. Highschool Lover sounds like a song I've heard before but with lyrics. I liked that one. Yeah I think this one's getting 5 stars! oooh Empty House is catchy. Apparently this album was named after the movie by the same name. And the very last track Suicide Underground, seems to have excerpts from the movie? Just found out that movie was directed by Sofia Coppola, daughter of the great Francis Ford Coppola!

very melodic, moody

First time listening to this album and it is a masterclass in electronic jazz. Will add to my collection.

Thankful for this album, for showing me that there is good electronica out there! Much of this genre is cold, manufactured, and repetitive, but Virgin Suicides feels organic, mysterious, calming, dark, and fascinatingly compelling. I love that it's ambient but never fades into background music territory, that it's a soundtrack but still works as a standalone album. On its own, I wouldn't necessarily give this a five. But because it's a record I genuinely enjoyed from a genre that I will never fully get into, I say why not? Standout tracks are Playground Love, Dirty Trip, Highschool Lover, and Ghost Song. Now to find a copy of this movie.

I like this sort of thing: rock, but also with a shimmering coating of noise, synth, and pedals, and intense mixing. This would definitely make a great film soundtrack, now I want to see the film.

Really enjoyed this album will def listen again

One of my favorite soundtracks. My entry point for the band, I had heard of Moon Safari, but in the pre-streaming days, not heard it yet (when I did, I also fell in love with it). The album works as a perfect soundtrack to Euginedes book. I've actually never seen the movie, but have to believe it works. It is simpler than Moon Safari, but no less outstanding.

this was brilliant. the production is incredible and the pacing is great, even considering that it’s a soundtrack! standout tracks are The Word Hurricane, Dirty Trip, Playground Love, Highschool Lover, Bathroom Girl, Ghost Song, Empty House, Dead Bodies & Suicide Underground

Great atmosphere

Wow this was good. Goosebumps the whole time.

This is catnip to me. Gloomy piano, some eerie synth, yum yum.

Not only matches the movie perfectly, but serves as a standalone masterpiece

wow. wow wow wow. i put on this album without knowing it was a film score and only realized it a couple songs in. it’s hauntingly beautiful. i can’t wait to watch the movie now. this album will stay with me.

Great album, maybe Air's best?

Yeah, I forgot how awesome this is.

Un clásico

Awesome

Interesting, first one I hear of this genre. Refreshing.

Stand-outs: "Ghost Song," "Empty House," "Dead Bodies"

Me love some air

Super chill, with a slant toward the depressive side. This album is as depressing as the movie, but I'm a child of the '90s and pathetic grunge kid at heart.

AMAZING

Fantastic

Phenomenal electronic soundtrack. Almost flawless.

WOW!! Quite a discovery! I purchased th CD!

Surprisingly good. I liked it enough to listen to it twice over!

Excellent hidden gem

very cool

I loved it!!

Bloody ell I love this I read the book when I was about 16 and though I've never seen the movie, I imagine this fits it perfectly, and listening to this makes me want to watch the movie

Simply great!

Very intense feels like a film watching

a hidden gem! Excellent, reminded me of Pink Floyd.

This album alone makes me glad I am trying this 1000 albums thing

What a great discovery! Great Pink Floyd influenced psychedelic rock! Will definitely listen again!!

an ambiance

Two Air albums in three days! What luck! I’ve not seen this film, but the album is excellent. I heart Air

Air meets Pink Floyd

Very chilled out vibes- I didn't realize these were related to the movie until I explored the songs more on YouTube.

Loved it, have not heard of this band but definitely will be listening more, very beautiful and emotive instrumental soundscapes.

Crazy TRIPPY album!

The soundtrack of one of my favourite films. An enjoyable listen.

Total sucker for pretty much anything Air / Lamb / Zero7, so this one had me at the get-go. Sad story, groovy tunes.

A soundtrack of superb quality… light as air and biting as the first winter breeze in late fall.

Een van mijn favoriete albums. Geweldig unieke muziek! *****

Super relaxed album. Geweldig om ‘s avonds te luisteren. Top.

Really enjoyed this interesting soundtrack album/score. Every song was varied but impressive from front to back. Loved the drums in The Word Hurricane reminiscent of Daft Punk's RAM. Will definitely return to this.

Magnificent soundscapes. Builds tension without being unbearable. Great use of sound and flow.

This Album is great, it has some of my favorite Songs in it. Playground Love is one of my all-time favorites.

familiar sound of the early 00s - perfect soundtrack music

Great cover design, very nice vibe!

Ambient and wonderful!

loved it. awesome album

Airy Sax Enjoyed

MY BOIS

I like it, Air is a great band

Jazz Noir

Pre Listen: The album cover certainly gives early 2000's vibes. I feel like I'm staring at something I'd find on the early internet. French music is either the worst shit I've ever heard, or amongst the best, so I got mixed feelings going in to this one. Notable Tracks: Playground Love - Alright, I'm invested, this is quite good. That saxophone felt great. Dirty Trip - A low point in the album, the scratched piano strings don't really do it for me. Highschool Lover - Favorite track on here. That grand piano sound is great, carries a lot of soul in it. Suicide Underground - I know what they were going for here. I get it's for a movie. this particular tract is just more art than music? I don't know. Least favorite song, but I'd probably feel someway else about it if I watched the movie, of which I have no plans to do. Post Listen: This album succeeded in giving me that early 2000's internet nostalgia. I feel like these songs were meant to be heard at a lower bitrate. I appreciate the restraint shown with a lot of the songs. When I hear 'Electronic album' I think of endless synthesized sounds layered upon each other, looped into oblivion with the odd sample thrown in here and there. This album really didn't have that, and I appreciate that a lot. The motiffs carried in a few of the songs was neat, and there was a general variety in the sound I enjoyed as well. Cool album, strong vibes, will likely come back to it later. 4/5

I really enjoyed this but of course, I have been a teenage girl.

This was a good, chill, mostly instrumental album that I enjoyed quite a lot. I could tell a lot of effort was put into this. I’m curious about the movie now.

I’m not sure I realized that Air had done the soundtrack for this movie, but it makes me love it all the more (the movie and the album). Incomparable downtempo chill. Love this band.

Love this so much, I listened to it back to back. Now I've gotta go watch the movie.

A cool mostly instrumental album where many songs sounded very familiar.

I first heard Air because Playground Love was used in a jeans commercial around this time. I got heavily into Moon Safari and Talkie Walkie around my senior year of high school and thought "I should get into electronic music," without really knowing a thing about it. This album suffers slightly from being a bit soundtrack-ish, but it's still honestly quite good. It's moody and vibey, but also quite psychedelic and, at times, downright weird. No clue if the movie holds up, but if this record came out in the 2020s people would still really love it.

There’s a couple of soundtracks for films that don’t exist on this list, so I don’t really mind listening to the soundtrack to a film I’ve never seen. The music here is absolutely gorgeous and makes me interested in watching said movie, but I don’t usually go for Sofia Coppola.

A really interesing record. I did not know this song was a movie score to be honest until reading other reviews halfway through the record. That is a merit, as generally movie scores don't make good records. Its dark, ambient but also rather trippy. It has some good almost drum and bass like beats, but also offers some more slow songs. The leitmotif has a unsettling quality to it. Many songs have this, combined with some excellent synthesizer songs it creates a very suffocating feeling. Very good music to put on in the background that still demands some of your attention due to its interesting progressions and instrumentation. Very fitting for halloween. I kinda wonder why it's on this list. I guess it's pretty experimental, or maybe the author just really liked this movie and this score. Who knows. 8/10

As a person attracted to the music first, I loved this album. It built up beautifully and then every now and then a song really stood out and grabbed my attention. I feel like Public Service Broadcasting were heavily influenced by this album too. Bathroom Girl was the first song that stood out for me - i could listen to that on repeat for hours, but my standout track was the final song, Suicide Underground. 4 stars

Do quite like air and didn't surprise me they do a good soundtrack. This is darker than moon safari, not surprising giving the film they are tracking (never seen it, doesn't sound like much of a story tbh). Because it's a soundtrack there are a few tracks which are clearly made to be in the background, which is fine for the task but doesn't make it good to listen to on its own. But in general thought this was a good album.

This was a very interesting album.

Reading the description and seeing ‘electronic French music duo’ I instantly thought of daft punk only to get surprised when the tracks felt extremely different to daft punk sounding more somber and slow paced. Already from the start I enjoyed this album although I personally prefer lyrics a lot of tracks didn’t have lyrics and the tracks that did have lyrics were just kinda eh but at least I know how hurricanes are made.

surprisingly good

pretty nice

the thematic follow through is great. it builds and swells. it cant help be eerie as it grows and guitars start soloing and drums start smashing. its immense and well followed through. its a sad album that goes along with a macabre american suburb. great album.

This is pretty dark and atmospheric.

I have a couple of Air albums, but not heard this soundtrack before. I'm enjoying it, a cool and ambient start to a scorching hot day.

This is ethereal (complimentary) as opposed to ethereal (pejorative). Even though this is one of the saddest movies ever made the tunes have good vibes, imo.

> the Beatles I liked this more than expected

No. 198 I actually really enjoyed this chilled out, electro-chill vibe.

Nice bit of pop electronica. 4

I don't remember the film that much, but something clicked when I relistened that soundtrack. After listening to so many other rock music, I can say that Air is wrongly characterised as an "electro duo". No, this here sounds way more to space rock and even prog rock of the French band Pulsar. This really gave me the Pulsar vibes - in a good way. The dudes know how to modify just one not or chord here and the vibe shift is there. A good album, but more for the atmosphere and not something to get lost into.

i think i'm going to move this book way up on my reading list so i can watch the movie so i can appreciate this even more. i considered even a five star drop here ... wonder if i can revisit this review later!?

I know next to nothing about this movie, but the soundtrack is decent. This is kind of a weird choice for this list right? I mean it's not bad, but it isn't anything that is really outstanding, it just feels like a good movie soundtrack and nothing more. It made fine background music and I'm sure it made a good soundtrack. Low 4.

i actually love this movie and the soundtrack is the most perfect music for this movie. it might not be the best thing musically but it’s so right

Great vibes for focus, lo fi

Quite nice as far as soundtracks go. Rating: 3.7

Good “mood” album. This is the score to the Virgin Suicides movie.

Yauzzi Feeling 4 stars in the aie tonight. Wie erwarted schöön und smooth. Air aka kings of elevator music. Nedi out

air? more like wowzair! das isch wiedairmal hairvorragend gsi! fast scho meistairlich, wenn nid sogar bemairkenswairt bezaubairnd glaub de film muessi mair mal gönne hairscharf a airstklassige 5 stairn verbigrasslet abair für viair stairn langets abairmal

i have heard this album partially before, mostly the 1st track as it's quite popular. my memory of most of the tracks is admittedly hazy since i don't listen to the rest of the album much, so i will treat this as if i were listening for the first time Playground Love - 5/5 Clouds Up - 3/5 Bathroom Girl - 4/5 Cemetary Party - /5 Dark Messages - 3/5 The Word 'Hurricane' - 5/5 Dirty Trip - 5/5 Highschool Lover - 4/5 Afternoon Sister - 4/5 Ghost Song - 3/5 Empty House - 4/5 Dead Bodies - 4/5 Suicide Underground - 3/5 Average score: 3.9/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ is the track Playground Love worth listening to at least once? absolutely. is the entire motion picture soundtrack for Virgin Suicides worth listening to at least once? i mean, for the most part i guess i like Air, and i mostly enjoyed this album overall. i also feel somewhat similarly to this as i did when i listened to the Shaft soundtrack months ago; the 1st song is great, while the rest of the album is just... whatever that being said, i do feel more strongly about the Virgin Suicides soundtrack this time around. it's not nearly as long as Shaft was (from what i can remember), and it's got the same trippy, atmospheric and slightly eerie sound you'd come to expect from Air's other releases. i could easily see myself letting this play during an evening stroll or in the background at home. for those reasons, think my rating is pretty appropriate

Unexpectedly cohesive for a soundtrack. This is certainly cinematic like you'd want it to be, but it also works well as a collection of compositions and a full album, which is rare to me. Usually at best you get a soundtrack with lots of great songs with a similar sound. More often you get a score that sounds great but doesn't necessarily pop without the movie. And even more often you get every bit of interstitial music regardless of how it holds up. This seems to walk the line of all of those things. “Dirty Trip” feels like the standout, but i also really liked the change in mood of The Word Hurricane. This is starting from a strong 4*... can imagine this growing to be a new unexpected obsession tho.

This is such a good movie soundtrack, but it is just that. To include a soundtrack and loop it in is certainly a choice. I love this all the same though. It certainly helps I listen to these albums during study hall, this is great study music.

I have never heard of the movie 'The Virgin Suicides'. So I was surprised to have already heard a few of the songs on this soundtrack. I was even more surprised by how much I enjoyed it. For a soundtrack album, this was great. Four stars. (Favorite track: Playground Love (feat. Gordon Tracks).)

I don’t know what I was expecting; but it wasn’t this. The opening track caught my attention immediately, and was much smoother, jazzier, and low key than I thought judging by the cover and vague band name. That track remained a highlight for me, with many of the instrumental tracks blending together, but the record was consistently entertaining and tasteful. It felt like it could've been a missing release from Danger Mouse’s catalogue. Another highlight was “High School Lover.” It’s a bit interesting listening to the soundtrack for a film I’ve never seen, but a good excuse for seeing something new (even if the closing track contained some spoilers).

very mystical fav song: The Word Hurricane

So, I had this folder mislabeled. I've been listening to an album that I thought was The Virgin Suicides, but it wasn't. Love that album. It was wonderful to now discover this. Incredible and moody, just like the film. Really good stuff.

Pretty cool. Makes me want to watch theovie

Tällasta saa kun edm-tyypi tekee pink floydia. Hyvältä soundas levy ja mielellään kuunteli! Hauska et on näköjään soundtrack kamaa myös tällä listalla.

Warm and creepy.

I actually really enjoyed this chilled out, electro-chill vibe. Had a night drive feel to it, that’s strangely nostalgic.

A bit weird that an original motion picture score is in this list but as a movie score I loved it. I haven't seen the movie but the score makes me want to watch it immediately. The first song is soooo good. Also fat boy slim‘s right here, right now is also in the soundtrack. Amazing.

Fantastic movie and equally fantastic album. Adds so much emotion.

An almost perfect album. Works at it’s best when Air are playing to their strengths, and stumbles when they’re trying to be more subtle and cinematic. Final track is a bit limp compared to the preceding one, which would have left things on a stronger note - might have been improved without the vocals. Insane to me that some reviews go below the 3 mark for this, or even go so far as to insinuate that Air are “not real artists”. If anything, this list needs far more soundtracks than it currently has and more than just film soundtracks too.

I often think of this kind of music as good ambience for working, but this is the rate album where there's is enough dynamism, melody, and drama to grab my attention.

This album is full of haunting and experimental electronic soundscapes. Some songs like "Cemetary party" and "Ghost song" have a Pink Floyd feel to them. Whilst always keeping the light angelic feel that I think is a constant motif of Air's work. I love how mysterious this album feels. As though it is hinting at revealing a secret that you might not want to have ever found out. I had no interest in watching "The Virgin Suicides" but after listening through this album a couple of times, I might put it on my To Watch list. (3.955)

This album made me want to watch the movie.

82/100. Such an amazing soundtrack and easily one of their better works in my opinion, the whole record is so fluid and dreamy. It feels like one long piece of music that just floats by in a beautiful way while still having individual tracks that stand out on their own.

Album #103 Air: The Virgin Suicides This one might be my biggest surprise yet. I was already familiar with Air thanks to their album ‘Moon Safari’, which I enjoy a good deal, though I wouldn’t say it is one of my favourites; and the only familiarity that I had with the movie ‘The Virgin Suicides’ was through my sister telling me that it was overrated, so I wasn’t likely to ever see it. But I actually really enjoyed this album. Previously, the only soundtrack which I’ve actually spent an extended amount of time enjoying as an album was the Twin Peaks soundtrack, which, even without the association to the greatest television show of all time, is one of the most atmospheric and entrancing albums you could hear. Though this album doesn’t quite reach those heights, it actually holds up as a standalone piece of music that really immerses you and keeps you engaged. Even the last track, which essentially seems like an exposition to the film, I enjoyed a great deal, despite having no point of reference to what they were talking about. I am definitely going to check out that movie soon, which may or may not affect this rating for good or for bad. I don’t know if this is better than ‘Moon Safari’, but it certainly proved to me that Air had more to them as a band and might need further investigations from me. Sidenote, this album could appear quite differently through the lens of an adult, with songs like ‘Playground Love’ and ‘Highschool Lover’ turning from sweet to predatory. Best Tracks: Playground Love, Cemetery Party, Suicide Underground Worst Song: Dead Bodies Score out of 10: 8

Really nice

You know what?? I really dig this. This is the 4th movie soundtrack I’ve rolled for this project out of a total of 6, and yet again it’s making me want to watch the movie it was made for. Helping immensely, of course, is French Electronica band Air. The French without a shadow of a doubt continuing to prove that instead of singing, they should stick instead to doing more of this kind of thing. Between Air, Justice, Carpenter Brut, David Guetta, Daft Punk, and many more, they absolutely knock it out of the park with Electronica music in a way that just hits different. This is no exception, and it’s not even the only Air album on the list. First, of all, it’s really cool how the first and last songs set up the overarching story and conclusion of this film. Without even heard of it, I feel like I can summarize the plot pretty well off of that alone. Given the context of the setlist, I think the names and general vibes of the music itself also give away a lot just based off of what I’m listening to. Really want to watch the movie itself now to see if I was correct. Favorite songs on this one were “Playground Love”, “Highschool Lover”, and “Dead Bodies”, the last of those 3 being my favorite. It’s so hectic, fast paced, and panic inducing, it tells me that something very serious and dire is happening. I absolutely love it. “Highschool Lover” feels like a reprise of the opener with no vocals, and the somber, dreary tone just makes it super interesting. In fact, this entire album is rather dreary and interesting in general. Nothing I would want to skip, and a few songs saved to the usual rotation. I repeat, the French Electronica albums are goated, and this is no exception. Only 2 Movie Soundtracks left to go with this project and another Air album. It was only after a day of listening to this passed that I realized just how cool I thought it really was, after reviewing it here and now. I had a lot of good things to say about it, especially for being the soundtrack for a movie I’ve never heard of before. For that reason, yeah, I feel pretty good about giving this one a 4.

Playground Love is an all timer. The rest of the album kinda hit or miss for me, but I attribute that to it being a film score. A few of the pieces are kinda boring as a standalone song, but serve the scene they're in beautifully.

Eerie, unnerving, excellent in places.

Really like Air, need to go fuller deep dive

Cool beats Best Song: Dead Bodies

Beautiful floaty ethereal music. I could have done without the spoken word track at the end. I added “Playground Love” to my Generator Playlist.

lowkeniunely depressing listen.

Captures all the lovely sounds of some other ambient works while also having much more interestingly written songs and none of the needless repetition

The only soundtrack that deserves to be on this list.

I liked this more than Moon Safari. Air is a perfect band for creating a movie score. Some chill background stuff, but when it cooks, it's very engaging. Excellent example of creating an emotional atmosphere using nothing but instrumentation.

Love this one, Such nice textures and it properly immerses you.

Hmm, teetering between 3 and 4 stars for this one. I think i would have liked this better as an album and not a soundtrack. I think sometime the nusic purposefully fades into the background, whereas there are also songs that come up to the front, those are the best ones. I think if the whole album was up at the front, it would have been a better experience front to back. Still some really interesting stuff going on. The first song was amazing, wish it kept that vibe for the whole thing. Also im kind of digging the album art.. its wierd, kitchy, and very early 2000s digital graphic art.

Never heard this before but really liked it.

This was cool, and I enjoyed it. Listened to it twice and it was very mellow and no track really sounded like any other. Very unique sound. Four stars.

One of the best movie soundtracks!

Quelle surprise !

Great background music, very atmospheric.

I went into this expecting to require context from the film - which I've wanted to see for a long time and just haven't gotten around to yet - but I was pleasantly surprised. This album flows wonderfully; light, airy (ha), not-so-secretly sad and very mysterious. Obscured. A bit of a Badalamenti vibe here at times. Some Mike Oldfield and Pink Floyd in there too, for good measure. Moon Safari this is not, and at this current moment, I feel that this is better.

I liked this album, an interesting instrumental album with obviously a strong theme being the soundtrack of a movie.

lovely, smooth, great as a smooth background music or to really listen when you're in the mood

I am very familiar with Air and I really like their work. This album is no exception they have a really nice ambient vibe that relaxes me. I like to listen to it at work when I need to concentrate on stuff. I also like to play it at home loudly on the HiFi because there is tons of sonic candy in the layers of music. This is a great album that I will listen to many more time.

I hadn't thought of this movie in years. Such a dreamy, haunting film, and a lot of that is evoked by the soundtrack. I had never noticed this before but there is quite a lot of Pink Floyd-ness going on here, which I like. Overall, I found myself enjoying the music while simultaneously trying to remember what was happened in the film, and I have to say it very much made me want to fire up the old DVD player. FOUR STARS

Started off a little shaky for me (Although I think that has more to do with not really knowing what to expect going into it. Figure if I give it another spin, I'll retract that statement), but once I got accustomed to the sound, I found my self enjoying it quite a bit. Really feels like the love child of Dark Side of the Moon era Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and Akira Yamaoka (Of Silent Hill fame). Especially songs like The Word Hurricane, Dirty Trip, and Ghost Song. Highschool Lover just sounds like a straight up rip off of Dark Side's Great Gig in the Sky (I say this complementingly). So yeah, quite surprised by this one. Really enjoyed it. Will say though, I'm not opposed to soundtrack/scores on this list, and don't particularly take issue with this album being on the list out of context of the rest of the list, but with there not being a ton of film scores/soundtracks (Or any video game soundtracks) on the list, this one should not have been picked over some other huge snubs, like anything from Morricone, John Williams, Hans Zimmer, the aforementioned Akira Yamaoka, Koji Kondo, etc. Definitely a place on the list for this one, just not without those others having a spot.

So far a 4 or 5.

You could have told me this was Radiohead and I wouldn't bat an eye - man who knows dick about Radiohead.

(79/100)

Pretty good

Love it. It reminds me of some later stuff I've gotten into that is more laid back, almost background music. I could absolutely add this to my rotation for listening to during work. I like the instrumental focus, the low-key psych-rock shoegazer vibe. I'll dock it just one star because it's not ideal as a standalone work, which should be expected from a film score. I'll almost certainly check out more work from Air though.

Surprisingly enjoyable, but what killed it from being really fantastic is some of the spoken word stuff...just completely unnecessary. The track The Word Hurricane was fantastic...what a great, chill groove and then all of a sudden there's someone talking about actual hurricanes and how they start. Either sing and talk over all of the music or absolutely none of it, but to do it at random places throughout is just jarring and doesn't make sense. There's a lot of cool stuff here, I might want to come back to this.

Chill. I like their stuff. Not my favourite on first listen but will easily listen again.

Pretty cool. Early 70s Pink Floyd vibes like on the soundtrack to the film “More”.

Oui, c'est bon.

I only listened to highschool lover before. Other songs shocked me with their eeriness i loved it.

Really chilled, moody stuff, written for a great dark movie. It has a strong jazzy retro vibe, it´s almost lounge music. Fav: Playground love

one of THE soundtracks

It's Air so it's great, though I would pick other albums over this one. The topic is heavy. I should really see the film. Interesting that they tried at times to sync the music to the movie, and at other times tried to create songs that stand on their own.

Like the book and movie, I'm always found this album to be beautiful, sad, but a little elusive. But, s the album itself points out, I've never been a 13 uear old girl. Still one of the more striking and memorable soundtracks out there.

chill record

I like movie soundtracks and Air. Pretty solid listen.

2000s electronica. Soundtrack for the movie. Very minimalist in parts but overall very atmospheric and beautiful. Floaty and dream like.

great book, great movie, good album but Sloan's songs were just as important to the atmosphere of the movie as Air's

moody, mellow, edgy - a lot of interesting songs with just beats (makes me want to finally watch the movie)

The love child of Serge Gainsbourg and Kraftwerk, the father of Daft Punk. What's not to fall in love with?

banger album til en banger film

Haven't listened to Air before. Haven't seen the movie. Thoroughly enjoyed the album. May have to give the movie a shot now.

Air's "The Virgin Suicides" is a dreamy soundscape, but it occasionally drifts into the background. The album excels in its restraint, creating a delicate atmosphere that perfectly complements the film. It's a collection of **12** tracks. However, the music sometimes lacks a strong emotional punch, leaving the listener wanting more. A solid **3.5** stars for its evocative quality.

I really enjoyed this. I hadn't heard of the band before the 1001, and had the album "Moon Safari" earlier. Good stuff!

--Playground Love...titillating --Clouds Up...computer guitars. nice --Bathroom Girl...I like the bells (glockenspiel?) and bass --Cemetary Party...[sic]? has a funeral procession-like feel. There's a choral sound in the background but highly digitized. it works --Dark Messages...ooooh, dreamy. Like a creepy Nutcracker Suite --The Word Hurricane...hard to relate to this one without seeing what's represented on screen. It's interesting, though --Dirty Trip...nice bass. feels like an instrumental Radiohead would make --Highschool Lover...acoustic reprise of 'Playground Love' --Afternoon Sister...the glockenspiel is back --Ghost Song...Pink Floyd coded --Empty House...haunted house vibes --Dead Bodies...a strange but welcome change of pace. this kicks. I wonder what's on screen while this is playing. --Suicide Underground...slowed down dialogue (the entire plot?) from the movie on top of a meandering instrumental. The preceding tracks felt like a cohesive album and this closer seems so "film". Is this what plays over the credits? It's also 6 minutes long. Don't like that.

Bit weird, but I'm on my 350th album to review so, I suppose, so am I.

I love Air. This is a very decent album.

This was pretty cool. I've never seen the movie, now I kind of want to

Adding soundtracks to this list feels like a bit like walking a tightrope. Soundtracks are so context dependent that I feel like it's hard to be noticed musically, unless it's something that you're really keyed into. Because I also think that people who like soundtracks generally mostly listen to exclusively soundtracks. All of that said, this is actually a really good soundtrack, and a pretty good addition to the list of 1001 albums. All of the songs are pretty varied enough that it doesn't sound like you're just re-listening to a theme over and over again with different harmonies or instruments. And actually, the vibraphone (or synthesized vibraphone; I can't really tell) is really great on this album. It's one of my favorite instruments, and it's just used really well on this album. I'm not sure this is a slam dunk top 1,001 album of all-time, but I enjoyed this a lot more than I'm really willing to admit. Favorite Song(s): Dark Messages, Highschool Lover

I really wasn't excited to listen an out-of-context soundtrack to a movie I've never seen, especially given how underwhelming I found Moon Safari, but I was pleasantly surprised! I really liked this album. It creates a really nice, often disconcerting atmosophere, and I found that it went to some more interesting places than Moon Safari did. I especially liked the track Dirty Trip. Definitely one I'll be throwing on again while working or studying. I just listed in my car, so I'm excited to revisit it with a solid pair of headphones. 4/5.

this had some really good songs, i did enjoy it, quite a heavenly sound to some parts

_ YOOO, Cyril back in da house!

Excellent, moody, atmospheric electronic soundtrack music. The last song was the only one I didn’t enjoy.

Fascinating and captivating

Expected a 1-2 star album, got a 4 star!

Cool, ambient, feelings, space. What’s this move lie about? The future? Or the past? I’ll look it up

Obviously very interesting, but I feel like I'm totally missing quite a lot of the context given that there's meant to be a film attached to it. I think Air are probably the perfect band to score a film since quite a lot of their music feels very ambient/background in the best possible way, where it doesn't intrude on whatever is happening in the film. Also they're great at just making instrumental songs, and even if there are lyrics, they aren't too sophisticated. In the same way as Moon Safari, this is also very atmospheric, as well as very emotional. Not really any downsides, I think it functions perfectly fine as a film soundtrack. Favourite songs: Playground love, clouds up, bathroom girl, the word hurricane, dirty trip, highschool lover and some more that I maybe missed. Overall around 7/10

Surprised, I never really went and listened fully to this OST. I love Moon safari and from the first listen this album instantly feels very solid. Relaxing, calming, chill, solid piece of work, probably 4 stars.

For a movie soundtrack this was very good!

I am working from home but now I am afraid to be alone. Absolutely loved it!

Somehow got both Air albums in the first 30 albums. I won't call them bad but I'm not upset that they won't be appearing again on this list; it's just not my cup of tea. I have never seen this movie, I don't know what it is about. I will say I found this to be my preferred album of the two, I liked it way more than I expected. Favorite songs: PLayground Love, Bathroom Girl, Dead Bodies

pretty good, did not finish tho but i like the airy vibe

Air’s brand of moody understated electronic music works extremely well in soundtrack form. Wonderful album, I just wish there were a few more tracks with vocals because the opener is such a great song. Favorite tracks- “Playground Love,” “Highschool Lover, “Dead Bodies” 8/10

Surprised by how much I liked this one

Best Song: Playground Love This is a powerful soundtrack that, while I have never seen the movie The Virgin Suicides, feels like it could fit in as the background music to a lot of things. Melodic and powerful. While this may not be in my top 5 all time soundtracks, it is a very powerful album musically and make me appreciate the music of the time (yes, even the electronica that I normally dislike). 4/5.

Pleasant

Love the Air vibes

Spacey stuff

Great album!

I’m kinda against film scores being on this list, however I love Air (French band) so

Really cool album/soundtrack. Doesn’t go on too long. Keeps it fresh. There is a little of that early 2000 massive attack sound in there, but it doesn’t taint it too much.

consummate and perfect rainy day chill out album

This was nice, also kind of just sounded like most Air albums I know and surprised to see a movie soundtrack on this list??? But fine yeah sure I liked it

🗯 French cool meets suburban melancholy — the perfect setup for Sofia Coppola’s dreamy cinema. I’ve never seen the film, but this soundtrack still plays beautifully on its own. Air were already masters of atmosphere after Moon Safari, and here they distil that elegance into something more spectral and cinematic. It’s less a collection of songs than a mood — gauzy synths, woozy strings, and shadows of guitar drifting like smoke. ‘Playground Love’ is the stunner — languid, sensual, haunting — easily one of Air’s best moments. The rest of the score is more ambient, but never boring: it hums along with a kind of weightless sadness that feels strangely universal. Even without the visuals, you get why Coppola’s films are known for this kind of vibe: intimate, detached, strangely glamorous melancholy. It might not demand constant replays, but when you let it run, it casts a spell. One of those albums that proves a soundtrack can stand as its own complete world. Verdict: Excellent (cinematic mood piece, anchored by one undeniable classic) For fans of: Air’s Moon Safari, moody Moby, Boards of Canada, soundtracks that create more mood than movement

Listening to this on a rainy fall afternoon just felt so right

The entire album has a haunting and melancholic vibe and the tracks were chill but interesting throughout. I haven't seen the movie, but this soundtrack does a good job of taking the listener through an emotional journey so in that respect it's a success. I did enjoy listening to this but I can't see myself listening to any of the tracks by themselves, both because I prefer more upbeat music and I think it's a case where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

C’est une BO de film donc c’est un mindset ! J’adore le film

Excellent vibes with a haunting final track

This is probably the coolest movie score I’ve ever listened to. I was hooked from the start, and I stayed hooked until the very end. There is a dark, ethereal tone to this album. It's almost a bit spooky in places? This entire score is just a beautiful testament to what music can do and how deeply it can make you feel things, even without saying much. I've never seen The Virgin Suicides, but its score has enticed me. I will for sure be watching soon and for sure be listening to some of these tracks again.

Highlight Song/s: Clouds Up and Dirty Trip I really do wish some of the tracks were longer. They seem like they are about to take off and in great shape, and you know sky's the limit. Then it just ENDS. I'm like awe man, it was getting so good, I know its a soundtrack album, but it doesn't lessen the blow.

I don't even care it's a soundtrack, because it's one hell of a soundtrack. So good.

I liked it

This blend of moody house/EDM combined with bombastic drumming/grooves is definitely my cup of tea. While I'm a bit hesitant at the author's decision to include soundtrack albums, I will admit that this listen has inspired me to go watch a movie I otherwise probably never would have heard of, so I'll give it props for that.

Even if it's a little weird to have a OST in here, this album's atmosphere is AMAZING

Great soundtrack

02/09/2025 A very chilled, harmless album. Spotify listeners: 4.8 million

Interesting listen. I stopped to read the lyrics of the final track (Suicide Underground). I didn't realize this album was a soundtrack and after reading the IMDB info on the movie, I may check it out too. I'll have to re-listen to this album as well.

Suspenseful?

Bien, me llevo un like.

When this started, all I could think was "Man, this sure sounds like Pink Floyd's early instrumental stuff. The synths. The saxes. The vibe." But as it went on, they developed their own sound and vibe. Sure, some of the track names are kinda 2000's cringe ("Clouds Up," "Cemetery Party," "Bathroom Girl") but I think they do kind of fit well with this alternative vibe the album gives off. And I can't think of anything better, so what do I know? It was only after listening to it that I realized it was a soundtrack. What a movie it must be, then. I'm now curious to watch it purely because of the soundtrack. It makes sense, though, given the abundance of instrumentals. It would've been easy for the tracks to sound similar to each other, given that soundtracks often have themes and leitmotifs. But not this one, from what I could tell. That honestly made it passable as a regular release album and not a soundtrack. This was a good one. A fun listen. Really creative stuff, and really changing the expectations for albums from this list. This is an example of the kind of album I wanted to discover from this project, and I'm very glad to have heard it. Four stars. Standout Tracks: Playground Love, Clouds Up, The Word Hurricane, Dirty Trip, Highschool Lover, Dead Bodies

good lads

This album really captured the 2000 vibes (despite being a motion picture soundtrack set in 1970). Air are a really cool band. The finale really annoyed my wife. But she hates monologues over music. Solid 4 stars.

Some great drumming, good tunes and an interesting vibe

Very enjoyable throughout as a backdrop to my morning. Obvious snatches of influence from Pink Floyd here and there.

Techno vibes a la Flaming Lips. Enjoyed it!
