Reviews (page 4 of 8)

Pretty good - similar to anime OSTs in that it's as much a score as it is a typical "soundtrack". Quite enjoyable and it pairs well with the film. Stranger Things, Twin Peaks, and any score by Daft Punk or Vangelis are in the same vein.

This was really interesting. Very spooky and soulful vibe

For no good reason, I lost touch with Air after Moon Safari. I'd never heard this before, I know the book but not the film. It is a really good record, I'm sure I'll return to it, perhaps whilst working. Best songs are the last one and the first, Playground Love.

As far as I know, I didn’t know Air existed before this album came up. Maybe I had heard their name, or a song, before, but I don’t recall them. This album sets quite the mood. I love the mellow electronic ambiance. I prefer more vocals, but I understand this is a soundtrack that doesn’t lend itself to that. I’m excited to take @Ivey’s advice and explore more of their catalogue. Unfortunately I don’t know if that will happen before 2025 when our 1001 trip is complete.

I loved this album when it came out, and I still love it. A really cohesive, beautiful soundtrack/album.

Super cool, really chill album. Probably wouldn't actively listen to this but I like it for having background music while I'm doing other things.

Made me want to watch the film - really interesting and atmospheric album

Never seen the movie, but I am digging this soundtrack!

I know of Air from the Moon Safari album - cruisey beats and cheesy synth-pop soundscapes. This album is a soundtrack. A bit darker and more moody / edgy. Pretty good. Might need more listens. Stand out tracks: Playground Love, Dirty Trip, Ghost Song

Pretty chill but groove with an interesting set of instruments (sax etc.)

Probably my second favorite release of theirs after Premiers Symptomes. Like it when they keep it mostly instrumental. Love the way they balance acoustic and electronic elements.

It's Air. It's chill and lounge-y as hell. Playground love is the best track due to the vocals, I wish more had them. Still overall a nice time.

I was obsessed with this movie! It’s a pretty good soundtrack.

I really enjoyed this. It's like Tame Impala. The movie/book was spoiled for me. Thanks a lot.

Liked this one a lot

An okay album, there is plenty of variety, especially for an electronic album, but 10,000 hz Legend is still my favourite. I don't think I will listen to this again, but at least I want to watch the movie now.

air e nice, hadde ikkje hørt detta albumet før

Mesmerizing

listen

Listened Before? N (Except during the movie) Well... wow. It's been years since I've seen this movie and I forgot how atmospheric and amazing the music is. Anyone who has seen the movie can feel the setting and story of the movie returning as this record plays on. Suicide Underground has the narration/monologue and it really pulls the whole thing together. Amazing. Added to Library? Y Songs added to Library: Playground Love (of course), Suicide Underground

Unexpectedly good (after not liking Moon Safari as much as I remembered). Might have to see this movie now.

This was on heavy rotation back in the day. I had already heard Premiers Symptômes and loved it. This was a little more pop-oriented but still had a great low-key, relaxing yet slightly haunting feel that kept me listening during work and study sessions. Strangely I never saw the movie and wonder how many listeners of this soundtrack ever did?

Fantastic film, great book, decent soundtrack

Sounds like Angelo Badalamenti got into Massive Attack. Sweet

Seductive

Go regarder le film mtn

I know I saw this movie when it came out and thought it was good. I don't remember much. Maybe need to rewatch. Interesting inclusion in this list. Besides the first one, all the songs are instrumentals. Hence musical score. In the first part of the album, I thought I was listening to the instrumental songs on Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon". Kind of trippy and psychedelic. About midway through, especially in the song "Highschool Lover", you start to also hear a Beatles influence. Everything still stays Trippy. This was an interesting listen and is what I would also classify most of the really good electronic or ambient music. It was definitely not boring. The songs changed pace and it did not feel like you were listening to one long song which some ambient albums are purposely. If you're an ambient or electronic music fan, this album is for you.

Wow, never heard this before but loved it. A keeper.

surprisingly enjoyable

I enjoyed the second listen to this alot more.

Far better than I remember

Very cool album, I feel like being a movie soundtrack did detract from some of the songs, they’re very simple, and I feel like air’s best songs benefit from being more complex. great for a movie but listening to it without watching the movie first meant a few of the songs felt repetitive. The songs are tastefully short however so they don’t get boring. I liked clouds up. Cemetery party reminds me a bit of the so-bad-it’s-good wall of voodoo cover of ring of fire. Word of hurricane is probably tied with high school lover for my favourite. I like whatever you call the repeated motif of that melody from playground love but I like it better in high school lover than the opening track. I’d say 4 or 3.5 out of 5. Pleasant, but none of the songs really caught my attention as standouts. Bonus points for making me want to watch the virgin suicides which is a big feat because I don’t like romantic dramas.

Some haunting beautiful mellow music which at times reminded me of Pink Floyd (the general sound of the album is particularly reminiscent of A Saucerful Of Secrets). It's all very film noir, which is appropriate given that it's a soundtrack for a film. In the nicest possible way, this is great background music for a dinner party.

What a fantastic album. I may have to watch the film again.

"What are you doing here, honey? You're not even old enough to know how bad life gets." "Obviously, Doctor, you've never been a 13 year-old girl". Beautiful haunting romantic solemn curious tragic.

Sublime but album feels a bit laboured compared to previous albums.

Instrumentalmente muy buena. Relajada y pausada. Un muy buen descubrimiento

good album to just do stuff to

Dreamy, melancholic. Great stuff from the French duo

This shouldn't work as much as it does, but it does. What a trip. Playground love is the obvious highlight, very Air-esque in its sexiness, but all the other songs have that hypnotic patterns that are way more dark and anxious than anything else they've ever done. Great stuff.

I never went further than Moon Safari and what a mistake. This album is quite excellent and it makes me want to watch the movie now.

Great album that merge a lot of musical genre. Some time, theres a pink floyd vibe, some time Brian Eno feel or even some downtempo from the 90s. Cant wait to watch the movie.

Thunderous atmospheres with very beautiful mellotron passages. Emotive and grandiose instrumental music.

Some good tracks on here.

Fkn great album- classic sounds and progressions. Something to listen to while spacing out. Knew about air before this but not this album.

Quite diverse, simple&effective basslines, managed to create an ambience of its own with unique combinations of sounds. Would listen again.

Vraiment chouette!

I'm not 100% sure why this album is on the list, since it doesn't seem to be considered as even Air's best album, nor was it a particularly significant soundtrack at the time. However, it's a good listen. The production is excellent, there are lots of little sounds that come through well. The somewhat sparse style Air employs works great as a soundtrack, but works well as a standalone album too. 4/5

Surprisingly enjoyed this

Shit movie but the score is banging.

very chilled. On my favourite list

First two tracks have me curious about where this going to go. Lots of elements in the sonic landscape that are being pulled in and blended. Dirty Trip has these chords that don't ever feel like home. Sets me on edge and I kind of dig it! And then the tension release on Highschool Lover is just everything! Suicide Underground is just a cool song, even wrapping in a synopsis.

Nice Compositions

I've never heard of the film but I liked this sound track. Some tracks with clear movie dialogue were a bit annoying but the others were great background music. Will add some of it into the rotation for calm background music.

Nice synth work. Easy to work to.

bonus star for sax

What a change from the previous album, a horrid piece of country and western. This oozes smooth sounds, but it's a soundtrack not a proper album and suffers from it. Still got some lovely songs.

Mooi, sferisch, prachtige soundtrack

Wasn't expecting a movie score to get onto this list. I saw this movie in my teen years, I remember some parts and the ending but not the music. As for the album, it opens with a traditional alt-rock song, some synths going, followed up with some instrumental tracks that definitely sound like background music in a movie score, and also very aimed towards angsty teen girls. Lots of the tracks were very familiar, I'm not sure if they've been used in other media, as I shouldn't remember it from the movie. Bit of a trippy, dreamy quality to it, at times reminds me of Pink Floyd but they add in some intense crescendos and spoken word sections that mix it up. Makes me want to go watch the movie again since it's been so long, but it definitely evoked the tone that I remember from it throughout this listen.

What a trip

Instrumental type band similar to Khruangbin. Would give 3.5 if I could. Songs made it into playlists but won’t listen to album much

Wonderfully darkish on a chilly fall preHalloween Friday. 3.5 to 4 lets see how Monday makes me feel

I dug this one. Chill atmospheric synth patches combined with a driving bass. At ~40 minutes, doesn’t overstay it’s welcome

One of my favourite chill out albums.

The music was very soothing, and I'll definitely check out this movie because of it.

What happened, Air? What happened to 'Sexy Boy'? Things got a little dark here. 'Dead bodies'? ,'Suicide Underground'? jeez. If it was a footballer, it'd be Justin Fashanu...

good album awesome bass and drums line

its good. a little repetitive but nice to put on background +1 star for being mostly wordless. I wish it were their other albums though.

A richer, more memorable experience than moon safari. 4-4.5.

Reminds me of Pink Floyd

4/5 - Great album

I've probably listened to something from Air before, but I can't say what. There was something familiar from the track "Highschool Lover", but the rest of the album was new to me. No tracks stood out prominantly as something I should come back to individually. The album as a whole was a collection of interesting sounds that I would revisit. The last track, "Suicide Underground" is the one track that I felt like skipping.

Great album. All of Air is brilliant

Me like. Is good. Radiohead vibes? Glad I listened

This is a first listen for me and had a good time. Highlights are the spoken word passages and the drumming on The World Hurricane. I now want to watch the movie.

Slow pace, relaxed.

Intonations of Pink Floyd and an homage to the days of the contemporary rock score. Echoes of early 70’s with a modern edge. In some moments, a potential Stereolab score is to be found, which alone makes it worthy of repeated listening. Suicide Underground, while perhaps necessary for the theme of the film, is an unfortunate closer for an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable score.

My favourite album from the generator so far. Sounds like all the pink Floyd instrumentals in their early/mid period without any guitar. The word hurricane is my favourite track

Good? I think? Pretty dark at the end there. 3.5 stars?

i'd definitely listen to this again. It has that very calm listenable sound Air is known for. I couldn't even tell it was technically a soundtrack other than the couple dialog moments.

Cooles Album, sehr relaxt, playground love einfach genial

Wow so true

eh i can appreciate this as good chill music, and it's an overall beautiful score, but not something i would seek out to casually listen to.

At the risk of sounding like an old fart (fine with it) I love me an instrumental soundtrack. Holding on to this one.

Good background driving music

Second Air album discovered thanks to 1001 albums. Lov'em.

A chill classic. Love this album.

Odd, but enjoyed. missing vocals but nice instrumentals if you're in the mood

I really liked this, and it felt like a really familiar space to be in. A little too background to hit a true 5, but damn good nevertheless.

Very pleasing ambient electronic sounds. Very similar to Board of Canada. Will definitely listen again.

This had a great mood and drifted into an instrumental feel of yoshimi and the pink robots. i think i was 100% on board and into it and then the last song hit. though it adds depth/interest, i think all future listens will stop 1 track short.

Shoutout Josh Hartnett

So good. It really helped concentrate post-lunch. The afternoons are the hardest for me while I work, I definitely hit a slump. I also love that it's the soundtrack for one of my favorite movies.

Pretty great album, awesome instrumentals. Makes me wonder what the movies about

Makes me want to check out this movie

Muito maneiro, instrumental prog, baixei o filme pra ver

Welcome addition for me.

Great album. Kinda hate the last track. The quotes in the distorted voice are too much. Can’t believe I didn’t remember it.

First time I really listen to Air, pretty nice, very wavy

I liked it a lot.

I’ve always liked Air, and parts of this album are gorgeous, but I gotta admit, this is like easy-listening music for hipsters. Both Steph and I independently thought parts of it were indebted to Richard Wright-led instrumentals from Pink Floyd. -Kris

I really liked the album. Probably gonna listen to it while painting once.

I already know and love this album. I love the opening track, it's this melancholic affair, then it's a dream from there after. Would it be pompous to declare that Air is the OG of this excellent dreamy ~v i b e~ genre that I like so much? There's only one track on this that prevents it from being a 5 star, and that's the last track. For me at least. It probably works better if you're watching the film, but we out here on Spotify my mans. To cap an album off with this distorted spoken word affair after Air has literally made love to your ears for the last 35 minutes; what are you doing?

Beautiful album that pairs well with the movie.

Like kaada

It managed to keep me somewhat interested and I like the atmosphere it goes for. 6/10

Pleasant and listenable background music which is what it is since it’s a film score. Not sure you really must hear it but it’s ok. I think one of them might have liked Pink Floyd.

5/10 I very strongly do not believe that soundtracks belong on this list. In this case, Air did the entire soundtrack, which makes it a bit more cohesive, but many of the tracks don't feel like full songs. On occasion some of the songs have that sort of overly computerized, midi kind of sound. I do think that the opening and closing tracks stand head and shoulders above the rest in terms of quality and interest.

Considering that many (all?) of the previous ambient-flavored entries have seriously missed the mark with me (i.e. induced anger and agitation), I'll call this a victory. I'm not familiar with the film, but is it possible I'm familiar with this music? Something about the melodies hinted at things I've heard before, even the sounds on the record were hearkening to something I felt familiar with. It didn't quite add up to me loving the album, but it's on the better side of a 3 star.

on its own, it's chill and vibey, though it's not something that belongs on the list.

Trippy air for a trippy film.

Saturday, 20 June, 2026 Longest day of the year! Good album. Not Air’s best album (Moon Safari), nor does it contain their best song (“Love” from *Love 2*). But very good.

It's a soundtrack, decent enough background music but nothing to write home about. Eerie and haunting, Playground Love is also really good.

Its a melodramatic rock album i would have listened to in my teens to feel edgy and like the main character in a noir movie about why my life sucked. Its not bad musicly perse but i just outgrew it (for the better). I cant rate it too low because its fine but yeah.

alright

Litt tung luft.

I did enjoy this, but it's nowhere near as good as moon Safari of theirs we've had previously. Not sure about including movie soundtracks on the list either. I recognised highschool lover I think 3

Kinda cool, but didn’t really capture my attention.

Apart from the "Playground..." I don't really see this album as so special to be on this list! Yeah, of course you can liste to Air and have a good time, but these ares songs that require a special day and a special mood to listen to them! In other words, today was not the day that I enjoyed this. But it has "Playground Love" and for that it deserves 3/5 - also, the video was amazing IMHO

Melancholic psychedelia

Nice ambient music but nothing earth shattering

Most songs dont have a lot going on. I think this album would have better if it wasnt a movie soundtrack. Maybe they would have developed the songs to make them sound a bit more interesting. Its kind off a mess...

Good album, great movie

Chilled, atmospheric album.

Favorite Song: Playground Love

I like Air, but I do have to be in the mood for them. This is a good, but it's not my "preferred" album.

The first place I heard Air, though I didn't realize it at the time, was an audio cue for a scene transition during "Ten Things I Hate About You." I never watched that movie all the way through. I happened to be in the room when that scene happened, and I thought, "Hey, that's a cool and weird sound they picked for a scene transition." I've never watched this movie, either.

Good score and soundtrack album, but not one I'd listen to as a standalone album (also not seen virgin suicides)

it is a cohesive album, yes, in that it has a very obvious theme... But is it a good album in its own merit? I'm not sure. Doesn't help I have not seen the movie

its fine. Doesn't take itself too seriously, but it also doesn't really stand out either. Fairly average across the board. I'm not clamoring to hear more of Virgin Suicides after this.

Light, poppy, inessential, forgettable. Not a bad album by any means but certainly not something you NEED to hear before you die

I liked this album and I think I will need to revisit Moon Safari, though I am still not 100% sure how often I would re-listen to this one. The final track has narration over it, which is far too close to a song with spoken words for me. I have never seen the Virgin Suicides, so the last track pretty much summed the movie up for me. It saved a few hours of my life, so for that, I'm thankful. Air seems to be the kind of artist that I do enjoy but then struggle to determine when I would listen to their music again. Playground Love is really a great song. My favorite songs: Playground Love Clouds Up Bathroom Girl Dirty Trip High School Lover Afternoon Sister Dead Bodies

Ominous and brooding, really sets the mood for the movie it soundtracks. Favorite track: Playground Love

It was good. Very good for a soundtrack, not many words, although, it didn’t really need any. Very deep, psychedelic music and I dug it. Overall, I’d give it a 3.9/5!

Listening session: may 23rd, while going grocery shopping and cooking dinner Listened to before: heard two tracks before Thoughts: I only realised halfway in that this album is the soundtrack for the Virgin Suicides. Not bad for a mostly instrumental record Favourite tracks: Playground Love, Bathroom Girl & Highschool Lover

I'm a huge fan of Moon Safari, but this didn't quite grab me in the same way.

Interesting. Not my cup o

Pretty good, better movie than an album

I was excited to get this, but it was just kinda meh.

Good background noise.

Groovy consistent slightly lightweight

It's ok. Really love Playground Love. Other favorite tracks are Highschool Love, Dead Bodies and Suicide Underground. Too be honest it doesn't have bad track on the album. Oh! And if you didn't see the film yet. Suicide Underground is one big spoiler alert. 3/5

Air Virgin Suicides - 3/5 - Ethereal atmosphere condensed into 40mins, seamless transitions for the most part allowing for easy listen ability, some songs (such as Playground Love) hold magnificent use and fusion of elements that transport you into a retro 70’s feel, Moody jazz drums & the distinct sound of the mellotron leaves you experiencing a lush expression of art, breaks past the sphere of soundtrack score and manages to have the ability to work as a standalone Verdict: 71-74/100. It’s cool to understand the history of the album and I can understand how this album is selected on the 1001 albums to listen to list however it probably does render itself more effective when paired with the film. It often does hold itself in a bittersweet melody which most likely adds to the story telling element. A great project no doubt but probably one I won’t be coming back to for some time Favourite Songs: Playground Love Dirty Trip Highschool Lover Afternoon Sister Dead Bodies

This album was weird but good to study to. I enjoyed listening to it but also I haven’t seen the movie and it was quiet and nothing super special.

extra points because i love the movie

3 out of 5. I enjoyed a lot of the instrumentation here.

Atmospheric and a couple of good songs one of which deeply reminded me of Dear Prudence. I've never seen the Virgin Suicides so I didn't have that strong connection but this was fine.

Trip Hop isn't really my thing. I like how Radiohead plays with it, but they pull in other elements that make it a bit more dynamic to my ears. Here, things sort of run together. I imagine this hits much harder if you have seen the movie.

ok. to me, background mood music.

Shocking shocking shocking. Maybe I was just in the right mood for this at the time, but I LOVED this. This was like Pink Floyd and Jet got together and recorded instrumental music. I don't like instrumental stuff too much, but I was entertained for the first 75%. Only reason not four stars is the last 25% really started to drag.

Good background work music. Nothing stood out good or bad

Eh, this was alright. Enjoyed the sax work throughout but found myself quite bored by the end. Air is a great example of electronic sounds of the early 2000s. This album is not.

Cool, detached, airy, this is really cool and slips past you. It is I think not as strong as some of their other ones but strongly ambient and slightly unsettling for what this is meant to be as a film soundtrack.

Just OK.

Very Pink Floyd-y, dreamy, moody, sometimes a lil scary

Ganz nett

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was liking it okay. Then it ended and PJ Harvey picked up and I was instantly so much happier and more engaged.

I still don't like movie scores, but this isn't bad.

It's fine.

Psychedelia, instrumental music mostly. Not bad, but honestly I wouldn't choose it to hear over any of the music I usually listen to. 2,75/5.

Not really into soundtracks without the movie. I like Air a decent amount, not enough to watch the movie. I also happened to listen to the Song Exploder podcast episode about "Playground Love" a few weeks back. But none of this makes me love the whole album, just bits of it here and there.

Like it 3/5

Interesting. From prog rock to lo-fi to hold music. The spoken word didn’t add much for me but I’ve never seen the movie. I will now. Solid 3.5

Didn't know how to feel about it at first, as I don't normally listen to TV/movie soundtracks. None of the music in this was bad or anything, but typing this a day later, I can only remember the ending song because of the story.

I've not seen the film and only knew Playground Love so this was mostly new. It'l's pretty good but actually my favourite Air side project is their spoken word and soundscape collaboratin with an Italian writer, which has a trance like quality though I don't understand Italian.

i love air, they're a great band. this is real good but you can really tell that this is supposed to be a film score, it kind of feels out of place without a film attached. maybe i'd like it more if i've seen the movie. i'll add it to my watch list cause this would def be a dope sound track. fs a strange entry on this list tho, you can def skip this

A good soundtrack, I've seen the movie. The music seems to be borrowed from Pink Floyd's keyboardist, Richard Wright. I love Richard Wright, but this album seems weak. I'll probably listen to Dark Side again.

Love Air, but not mad about this one.

Decent background music, with a few moments that caught my attention.

You can literally sing Karma Police over several of the songs and it fits right in. Radiohead without narrative structure of the lyrics.

I don't know what it is about Air that's lost on me. It seems like something I should be bananas for, but none of their stuff clicks for me.

I enjoyed this, but it being a soundtrack to a movie I haven't seen, I felt like I wasn't getting the whole picture. Less electronic than I was expecting, and a lot less French

I thought Moon Safari was surprisingly good when I got it. This one just didn't work the same way for me. It feels more like pieces of a song than a full song. Good pieces, but still pieces. I'm guessing it's because this is a soundtrack.

Really good any my type of instrumental music

Very odd. Feels like the soundtrack to some bombastic 1970s sci-fi film but I did not hate this as I expected too.

moderately interesting, saved a song or two because it's my taste. but why is this here? Would I listen again: sure Deserves to be on this list: not sure 3.3

Ok its fine. very atmospheric. I don't love instrumental music though it would be good for yoga class (and a movie soundtrack)

I liked about half of this album. Relaxing, good background music. The other have was noisy to my ears. 2.5 stars that I will round up to three stars.

Like a dream. Particularly like one that you don't remember.

Just ok.

This is ok. Something I'd quite happily put on in the background Nothing stood out as fantastic, but I enjoyed it enough. Dead Bodies was the highlight

Interesting ost album, mostly instrumental. Some funky electronic beats with ethereal melodies. 2/13 liked

Air cool but we were good with just Moon Safari. Not sure how I feel about soundtracks being included. Filling the pages as per eh Bob. That one guy who said Air are his Radiohead has righteously good taste. Extra star for old mate.

Like a well picked low budget high tannic wine. One enjoys it through the bottle, but slowly. And eventually one ends up thinking, I probably would have gotten of something of even better taste, to truly enjoyed even if abit slowly.

3 stars

I have a question for Robert Dimery: What is wrong with you? I only ask because I *thought* you had chosen not to include soundtracks on this list, which is reasonable enough... But this is a soundtrack. And that means you DID include soundtracks on the list. And that means there must be some other reason why the only Bee Gees album on here is the woeful Odessa, and not Saturday Night Fever. What happened? Why have you done this? JUSTICE FOR SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER! Virgin Suicides was okay. I give it a three I guess?

This is a great soundtrack to a great film. The issue with translating it to an album is that a number of the songs so abruptly and break the flow. I forgot how good Air are, great musicianship.

i borrowed the dvd of the virgin suicides from the colac video shop when i was probably like 14 and it was super scratched and skipped entire scenes so the movie made no sense to me. this soundtrack slapped though and am going to give the movie another go

this was pretty good i liked the instrumentals i recognised a lot of them actually but i do think listening to a soundtrack without seeing the film makes it a little lacking

Dreamy ambient music. Pretty cool

Decent background music but since I haven't seen the movie, I'm not sure how the music connects to the film. I'd probably have to watch the film at some point for this album to grow on me.

I ain't dead yet!

I like Sofia Coppola's movies, haven't seen this one, I'll bet the soundtrack works great. For album listening, no traction for me so far.

Decent morning coffee music.

It's fine. Didn't think this list would have movie OSTs.

It's okay for that kind of bachelor pad kitsch revival of that era but if there's no Broadcast or Stereolab on this list those would replace this album for me. Robert Dimery really liked Air, that is what I can conclude.

This is a soundtrack, and a pretty good one. The essential Air record is Moon Safari, and it's also on the list. But this one is quite interesting, and most of it works as an album, not just color for a visual medium. If you are a Pink Floyd fan, you'd probably love this because it is a barely disguised homage to 70s PF. Enjoyable but inessential

Quieter than I expected

Low key techno alt

It’s more interesting than a lot of generic instrumental music, but nothing really stuck out to make me want to come back.

Takes the atmosphericness (that is a word!) of Air's output to a new level. It definitely has its very own, very defined sound cosmos. Playground Love is still an amazing song. Doesn't make for the most exciting listen, to be honest, though.Even by Air's standards, who aren't exactly known for producing music that makes you want to run or set stuff on fire.

I remember the single from this album. Good music for study or work focus.

I had only heard snippets of their previous album but going blind onto this record it was a very pleasing listen. It ends up being a very dreamy and cinematic listen. After listening their first record, I might overall still prefer their first record though. 8/10 [KEEP]

For the most part this is pretty chill. I’m sure the Hurricane interlude makes a lot more sense thematically when taken as a companion to the movie. As a film soundtrack this is excellent. Suicide Underground somewhat gives me an idea of what this movie is about, but I might need to watch it to actually know. Not quite as good as Moon Safari. Favorite songs were Dirty Trip, Ghost Song, and Dead Bodies.

This was alright

Pretty good

I really enjoyed this soundtrack, I think it created an interesting atmosphere. Haven’t seen the movie but I imagine it’s a surreal film. More movie scores and soundtracks should be on this list! A very nice flowing album that works well on its own outside of being a film score. Good cinematic background music too, makes me want to watch the movie! 3/4 stars

In terms of a soundtrack and instrumental/electronic music quite good. But surely not my preferred style of music for an album. Hard to rate because it is more some kind of background music for me. 2,5

Works very well as a soundtrack although it lacks the range some soundtracks can achieve, of course this was predicated by the film. I think it does have a very surreal sound, very atmospheric that I would enjoy driving to

Stand-out tracks: Playground Love - being the only track with vocals, ofcourse it stands out, I also like the subtle jazzy elements Bathroom Girl(Cemetary Party/Afternoon Girl) - all of these tracks feature the same melody, but I probably like the instrumentals on Bathroom Girl the most Highscool Lover - this one is just the instrumental version of the opener, but I tend to enjoy those, sometimes even more than the original I haven't seen this movie, but from what I read online, it is a psychological drama which makes sense after hearing this album. Almost all of the tracks have a mix of this sort of playful yet unsettling tone and a dose of mystery. Most of the album is made up of purely instrumental tracks so it almost feels unfair to compare it to some of the previous albums as the purpose wasn't to create hit songs, rather it was to create an unsettling/mysterious atmosphere and it does a really good job at doing that. I do feel like a good chunk of the album sounds quite similar and sometimes I'm not sure whether I've heard the melody already or if my mind is playing tricks on me (I guess it is one of those things they call repeating musical motives in osts). All in all, it does its job well, but probably isn't something I would come back to listen to often, unless I'm in a certain mood for some of the tracks (some are just not really made to be listened to on repeat lol).

Not a fan of productions that are instrumentals, generally. This was pretty good music until track 10, where I couldn't listen to it all the way through. But it picked up after that. Overall an OK soundtrack. I never played the game so no heartstrings were pulled. I'm not sure I would play it, considering the subject matter.

Some weird shit to it, but pretty decent.

Somehow different. And somehow nice. But more nice like as a background than nice as in moving and surprising. But for this kind of music surprisingly good.

I love Air, and there is a lot here to love. The problem with this being a soundtrack is that it is made to accompany the subject, not necessarily to be the subject. Maybe is I had seen the movie I would appreciate this more, but it feels like every time there is an interesting or compelling moment, it's fleeting. A lot to really love here, but also lots of filler. Maybe you could say that about other Air albums, but I hope Moon Safari will be on this list. 6/10

Interesting and ethereal. Great for background listening. Nothing noteworthy jumps out though. Pitchfork: 7.2 Rolling Stone: n/a

Finally watched the movie becaus of this, didn't like either of them much

My first soundtrack on the list. My favourite soundtracks tend to be more like compilation albums where the songs all work in particular places - High Fidelity or soundtracks to various Tarrantino movies. But this was grand and a nice listen - the artists would probably hate that description though. 3 out of 5

Weird...

Never watched or even heard of the movie this soundtrack was created for. It has an interesting sound, good sort of background music. Kinda gave me Pink Floyd vibes for a few of the songs? Like there's a sort of experimental, atmospheric rock sound. I like it.

Extremely haunting record which links to a The Virgin Suicides. I enjoyed this record though, it was quite interesting to listen to the gloomy electronica. It brought out a sinister sense of malaise, coupled with the clipped vocals and droning instruments. I enjoyed ‘Playground Love’ and ‘Bathroom Girl’ the other tracks tapped into the mood of the film. Which to me read as dread and the discovery of something sinister. To conclude it was a nice listen 3.5/5 - GEMV (15.01.2026)

I don't know about this one. Obviously a different experience since it's a score. I did forget this when I was listening and I kept thinking "why is this on here". I don't want to give it 2, cause it's actually fine. I just don't really feel like giving it 3 either... I'll give it 2. No I'll give it 3

5/10 – Mediocre

Had never heard of this album before. It was different for me! Really liked the first song

sehr interessant

It was pretty good. Vibe heavy.

It's been several years since I saw this, but I do remember the music being a significant factor in the aesthetic of the movie. This score is timeless and modern at the same time. There's a looming sense of inevitability that permeates the score which makes it riveting and also terrifying. It's absolutely beautiful while being incredibly uncomfortable for me to listen to without feeling anxious. it's so many opposite things at once! I love it, but I don't like it. I'm gonna go cry now.

Kind of cool and atmospheric. Especially the beginning. The last track was a bit of a downer.

Didn't really get much from this without the context of the film. Not bad though.

Not bad by any means, but I feel it would probably sound a lot better watching the movie tied to it.

Nice background music to revisit

Pretty nice to have on but never going to get me that excited. Maybe I should watch the film

Chill album I had not listened to before.

Really cool sou track. Don’t listen to many but this one is well out together. I’d give it a 3 since I don’t think I’d revisit much, but I enjoy it a lot.

I thought some of this was very pretty music.

I like this but am not sure it’s a must listen if you’ve already got some Air in your life.

SoOK. Not something I’d probably loop back to, but it’s chill and different.

# Album Name: Virgin Suicides # Artist: Air # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: I love a bit of Air. But this album doesnt deserve to be on here imo. Its a decent listen. Very chill vibe but hardly groundbreaking. Good to have on in the background. # Top Tunes: Playground love / highschool lover / dead bodies # Would I listen to it again? Yes

Ok. ★★★

Slow easy put me to sleep

If I could give this negative stars I would

this was fine. Cool movie soundtrack. I feel weird that I’ve never seen this movie.

Pretty cool and vibey.

Relaxing, well-crafted but almost too subdued - doesn't beat Moon Safari 3.4

I love the moody, well crafted analogue soundscapes and the pushing drum and bass grooves. As others have pointed out, this is a soundtrack first and an LP second. Having not seen the movie, this lessens the exprience.

Pretty good! Had some songs I've definitely heard before.

A likeable listen. It's funny how something using retro sounds can be so closely dated to when it actually came out. I wonder why they chose to pitch shift the actor's voice at the end. I don't remember it like that in the film and it's a bit annoying. Are there any other soundtrack albums on the list? Does this one get around some kind of moratorium because it is billed as a score and Air are a pop act rather than a composer. Bernard Herrmann, Ennio Morricone, John Barry arguably all put out soundtrack scores at least as worthy of a spot. You'll have your own favourites I'm sure. There don't seem to be any modern composers on the list either apart from John Zorn. No Philip Glass, no Steve Reich, no Gavin Bryars, no Terry Riley, no John Cage.

This album made me curious to listen to Air's actual albums. It's got some cool points, though as many others have stated, being a soundtrack mostly serves as background music. Not going to think too hard about this one. Enjoyed it more than "Shaft" which was my last soundtrack, some cool instrumentals and effects throughout. Don't know if I'll really do more listening to it, but might want to keep a few songs in rotation. 3 stars.

Good instrumental album for working.

VIBES.

PRE-LISTENING: I have not seen the film so this will not have any nostalgic value for me, but I am going to try to go in with an open mind. That being said, I am not encouraged by the description of the group as a "French electronic music duo." WHILE LISTENING: I like this more than I thought I would. But it definitely seems like at least a passing familiarity with the film would help. Being a film score with very few lyrics, this is pretty good music to have on in the background while working. The opening of "High School Lover" sounds almost exactly like Pink Floyd's "Great Gig in the Sky" (and reminiscent of "Breathe.") I chuckled aloud when I heard this really upbeat song and went to look at the title and it was "Dead Bodies." POST-LISTENING: A pleasant surprise! I may even check out the movie eventually. Sounds like a light-hearted romp.

I love that band name Cool cover too Playground love is really good interesting, 3/5

This was fine. Apparently this was the soundtrack to the movie The Virgin Suicides, which I’ve never seen. It is a nice ambient album but I’m somewhat confused why it’s on this list. It’s good, but not clearly better than the million other albums I’ve heard in this genre. If you’re looking for something in this vein, Explosions In The Sky (from Friday Night Lights) is my recommendation

Soundtracks/film scores don't belong here! Although this was a fun listen, especially for just a mostly instrumental. Top tracks: "Playground Love," "Highschool Lover," "Ghost Song"

Interesting. Hints of Pink Floyd in a few songs.

It was good but I’m kinda anti film scores being on the list

Ummm... This isn't "Moon Safari." Why isn't this "Moon Safari"? It's supposed to be "Moon Safari". Air has one, and only one, album that everyone should listen to before they die. And that album is... "Moon Safari" This album is good. But it's no "Moon Safari".

It's not bad. It's basically like background music.

An ok follow up to moon safari, good but nothing to back over the previous album.

It's solid work for a background track but feels like it shouldn't be on this list.

I am neither familiar with the movie or series nor band behind this album. I did not know what to expect. It was a nice listen while doing garage chores on a Saturday afternoon. Not sure it would come out in other settings. I'm placing it in the middle - neither offensive nor compelling. 3/5

Soundtrack album to a movie I have not seen, but plan to one of these years. Very trippy and would have been a great listen baked. Last song on the album kinda spoils the plot?
