Meh
Very dated sound -OK for it's time but now nothing to recommend apart from the cover of "Only Love Can Break Your Heart
If you're a fan of 90s dance music, this might be a worthwhile listen. I'm not, so this was on the tedious side. Best track: The 43 second intro. At any rate, this album shouldn't be on this list. 2/5
Franch
Pretty long, repetitive and boring. Standout song: Stoned to say the least
As background music in a store it would be fine, but this album doesn’t belong in this list for me. It’s not bad but the samples and ambient music are just ok.
There is something that I really don't like about songs that seem chaotic - they don't follow a beat or there are multiple different types of sound within one song.
Was just a bit unimpressive. i liked stoned to say the least and nothing can stop us
So this was not terrible, but I'm never going to willingly listen to dance style music without many lyrics.
It was okay.
This one's just not for me. I do have to say though, a lot of songs sounded familiar. Not like I've heard them before, but like they were sampled in other songs a lot, but I couldn't find any confirmation on that.
Not for me.
I get why it is influential, but it didn't really click with me. It had some good ideas and songs that I liked, but a lot of the songs are just too long and repetitive. I don't think this album holds up too well over time either, a lot of the production and vocals seemed sloppy
i am left wondering why this album is on this list! when the album finished, i was bored and sleepy. yeah, foxbase alpha has a different kind of dance music. apparently this style is called alternative dance, but new order was so much better at this. instead of a fun and rhythmic style of dance music, saint etienne created repetitive, drowsy music and relied too much on a cover and samples. unimpressed.
This album was just okay. It was kind of quirky, kind of happy, kind of dreamy, but VERY repetitive. I think the song that I probably liked the most was "Nothing Can Stop Us", but the rest of the album kind of bled together for me into an ambient noise. I don't really feel like this was a necessary inclusion on this project, different though it may be.
Slow house jazz. Not really my thing. Not terrible. Not remarkable.
It's alright, couple of good tunes, rest is ok.
So fucking empty. This is like the musical equivalent of slowly dying of dehydration in the Sahara. This could have been a serviceable Downtempo album (the few Trip-Hoppy songs on here are actually pretty good), but they spend way too much time playing music that sounds like something your Samsung Smart TV would play in the background while it's downloading the latest update.
Not sure what qualifies to make this list. I got this in the high 900's and Im starting to suspect. Not much
i have no idea. i can't remember any of the songs, and listening back to them again i can't tell you what i feel about them. they exist.
Painfully 90s
I'm not gonna say this is crap, because it's at least listenable, but it's neither good nor approaching anything I want to spend my time on.
Started strong for those of us that enjoy the early 90s techno sound. But fell flat by the time it was all said and done.
AJ: electronic and British.
meh
So boring. One of the most uninteresting albums I’ve listened to so far. It wasn’t particularly bad at all, just so very boring. 3/10 Top 1: 1. Only Love Can Break Your Heart
Background music. Technoy but a bit more singing than regular techno. Nothing really stood out. Female vocals were okay. 2/3 stars
I couldn't wait for this one to be over. Lo-fi music beats are so boring. Idk maybe I had to be high
I liked the samples they used, but not much else stood out to me. I thought the album was kind of flat and probably won’t listen again.
Listened to this in bumper to bumper traffic. It was somehow still less interesting than the license plate of the car in front of me. I wanted to like this. It's well put together but ultimately it's just samples of better music put on loops with nothing of interest added to it.
For me kinda boring lounge music, like bossanova is. Hope they are nice live in the sunshine, will be on a festival in June I have ticket for. Not to be listened to at home for me.
Inte dåligt. Men inget jag saknat. Finns kanske två låtar som något. Resten är ett relativt skönt bakgrundssällskap.
Only Love Can Break Your Heart is a great track -- the Neil Young melody incongruously combined with early 90's house music production just works somehow. But the rest of this is pretty thin, mostly owing to the weak vocals. Great cover art.
Enjoyed some.
Decent cover of Only Love Can Break Your Heart, other than that nothing too notable.
Started out interesting but turned out to not really be for me
Pas désagréable, mais anecdotique.
Not sure what acid house is but this album is repetitive, trippy, and full of odd sounds. Very like soundtrack music of early 2000s indie movies during montages. 2 stars.
I found this pretty boring. Background cafe music.
I know that the 90s sample music with breakbeats has its place in music history but I can't really enjoy it that much. It's like hip hop without good lyrics but not lively enough to enjoyed as instrumental pieces. Okay for some background music.
AH IT'S FRENCH 1/5 NO GRANCE> GET THAT SHIT OUT This is Radio Etienne - get this french shit out of here (1/5) Only Love Can Break Your Heart - this is such an interesting sound to come from 2009. it sounds like it should be earlier. (3/5 fun pop sounds) Wilson - 1/5 Carnt Sleep - what'd you call me? this is the outro to Neon Genesis Evangelion written by the Gorillaz. (2/5 kinda boring) Girl VII - i love audiobooks. (1/5) Spring - it’s a song 🤷🏻♂️ (2/5) She’s The One - i honestly don’t know if this funk electrónica europop sounds good. (2/5 it’s getting.. flatter somehow) Stoned To Say The Least - get the british out of my ear too. That’s the Way (I Like It) by KC & The Sunshine Band came out in 1975. (2/5 original was better tbh) Seven minutes of this. The default beat for Seven Minutes. Nothing Can Stop Us - if this is like the last song i will not keep listening with my full attention. (2/5) there’s another seven minute song. i like long songs but i think i will keep myself safe. 2/5 i guess. i’m at the end of this with nothing to say. that plateaued and then took such a sharp dip.
CBA
Very light and casual with an interesting blend of dance, sampling, and pop vocals. I appreciate the effort; the listening experience was pretty unique. But when I didn’t like a certain refrain because it was too spacey or melodically annoying, often the repetition was unpleasant. The song titles and sound bites made me wonder if there’s a larger concept at play but the music isn’t attention-grabbing enough to want to investigate. 4.5/10
more house music, nothing really stands out. Again, this genre just isnt my vibe, so its most likely lost on me. I cant figure why this gets a spot on the list either, it doesnt really differentiate itself as far as I can tell
This list must have been made in the 90s which would explain why there’s so much bland euro trash electronic music on it. That stuff was new and hip and cool when it came out. Now though? This is FAR from an album you need to listen to before you die
bien commencé. adorait bien la vibe. mais jamais eu de progression. devenu dull a la moitié. 5/10
Ihan cool mut en vaan jotenkin tykkää tästä tän aikakauden saundista. Jotenkin tylsää. 2/5
2/5 naaaah
I wanted to like this album because Bob is such a nice bloke and they have a light air about them. Sadly, though, this was very very pedestrian.
B-O-R-I-N-G
Decent album, heavy on the pop side. Do I think everyone needs to listen to this before they die? Not really
almost a 3, it was ok
this was not good.
Would've just rather listened to Dazzle Ships. Ambient/ electronica on parade, but no a groundbreaking album by any stretch of the imagination. By 1991, we'd heard everyone using samples and dialogue bits (hell, even Durutti Column). Nothing to hate hear, a decent album on its own - but not a lot to love. I think its another instance of the list creator's bias. Some other, more unique album gave up its spot for St E.
This is great background for Twin Peaks, but as a whole album, it's not for me.
I can see why people like this. I do not. BUT it's far from insufferable but a 2 is the best I can give.
The singer almost sounds like she's signing off key on purpose. Right from the start it put me off. A lot of it feels like discounted Massive Attack that fell off the shelves. Too bad because they have one or two songs that show they could do better.
Nothing special.
Meh
Felt pretty neutral about this one. I liked “nothing can stop us” and London belongs to me” best. Her voice was kinda boring. Weird to hear electronic music with pitchy vocals.
Didn’t enjoy this. Some of the songs I really hated. nothing can stop us was okay. 1.5
This was strange.
Mostly ambient noise stuff with intentionally distant echo-y vocals. Unique, but def not something you "have to listen to before you die".
This album is taxing to listen to. Drags in and fails to make a point in any direction.
Rather boring album that just had way too many electric sounds mixed in
I’d didn’t hate this album, but wasn’t exactly wowed either just became background music really.
i did not like it
I do not get it. I do not understand why this is on this list. It's not bad, just very unremarkable. Maybe I don't fully grasp the context behind this band and this release, but I really feel like this album is not essential at all.
You can hear the early beginnings of Brit-Pop and Pop-electronica here. Also their the cover of Neil Young’s song is cute but ultimately this record is not very memorable and nothing really sticks with me.
This sounds like music that I would hear if I walked into Gap. I feel like I should be looking through piles of clothes and wondering how they find models that all look the exact same. It's not bad and is completely blase and unoffensive for me. I will say, these songs sound like they were made in the mid-to-late 90's, so this band seemed to be ahead of the curve a bit. Perhaps that is why the album is in the book, because they created music for clothes shopping. Otherwise, it feels so inoffensive that it may as well not exist.
leuk album, wel grappig in elkaar gezet. Merkt dat het veel gesampled is waardoor sommige nummers zelf beetje hiphopachtig worden. Maar zou het niet nog een keer luisteren want toch vaak beetje kut
Meh. Dance music not for me anymore
A few good moments here and there but overall I thought this one sounded dated in a bad way
That girl on the cover made me believe it would be good. Turns out it's not.
Can I go to bed ?
A few nice moments, but overall it was next-level boring. The song "Kiss And Make Up" might be one of the worst song I've ever heard. So again : Saint Etienne is in this list, but no Broadcast? This whole thing is a joke.
Not a fan of this, it all sounds the same to me. Nothing jumped out.
Moby, is that you? Bring me the real Moby.
Good mix of dreamy/ethereal sounds and catchy house music beats, if you're into that.
Not great, except for one song.
Huh. That was weird.
Gave me the heebie jeebies for some reason
I usually like music like this, but found this album extremely annoying to listen to for some reason. Sad :(
Granted, it's been about fifteen years since this came out, but it's still seems to emulate music that was being produced 10 years prior to its release. At one point in my life, say like 25 years ago, I would've listened to a few times. Today, this is lackluster and obsolete, kinda like cable TV ... it still works, but why waste your time.
YES WILLIE WOULD LIKE SOME SWEETS! HE TOLD YOU WHICH ONES HE WANTS! YOU’RE GOING TO MISS THE BUS JUST GIVE HIM THE SWEETS!
This is some uninspired shit. Very boring. The best I can say is that it is not offensively bad.
I'm sure they were wildly influential on the genre. But not on me.
It’s good to finally put a sound to another familiar band name. They seem like a cross between early 90s dance and easy listening, two of my less favourite genres. Considering this, it wasn’t bad. The Neil Young cover and Nothing Can Stop Us were high points and the samples on Wilson were fun (possibly inspiring The Prodigy’s ‘Charly’?). It doesn’t do enough to be labelled a ‘must-hear’ for me though, Clive. Also, I didn’t need to hear the words ‘France football’ in the intro today. Too soon >:( 2.5
Sometimes interesting, but boring more often than not. 2/5
I don't know, man. All of these European eletrcopop artists are starting to blur together. I'd be hard pressed to tell you the difference between Saint Etienne and Air or Massive Attack. The main difference seems to be the film samples and that's not a positive differentiator. In fact, those stupid samples take this from a "meh" 3 stars to a "nah" 2 stars.
This album started off pretty interesting. Its lowkey an album you would play at a club - it definitely can get you moving. Nothing can stop us was a good song and made me wanna dance. I didnt think any other songs stood out but they were all decent. Album got old after nothing can stop us. Meh 4/10
Nice background music I guess
This was pretty boring. It had a Massive Attack feel to it, only blander and more forgettable. By the time Song B would start, I'd have already forgotten about Song A. There's a song on here called Stoned to Say the Least, which makes me think that this album is probably only good to zone out to when you're zonked out. On any other occasion, it's painfully uninteresting!
This is like if Madonna sucked even more than she already does.
Nothing special
Meh then, meh now
Not all that interesting. Yes, the Neil Young cover is good, but no better than Neil's version. Nothing can stop us now is still very cool, but everything else is mediocre. Given Bob Stanley's musical knowledge I'm disappointed. Very 80s sounding. Perhaps this was quite good for its time, but I just remember that they were the height of cool and Cracknell was a blonde bombshell.
not for me
It was interesting but not really my thing.
No, not for me.
Dull
Didn’t really enjoy this. Sounded like Madonna in her techno phase. Some of it was ok. 2 stars.
Stoned to Say the Least is chefs kiss
I found this album to be quite repetitive while also being difficult to dance to. It's like a way less groovy version of TV girls french exit
Kind of avalanches and hop hop sample vibes but not really for me
Starts off really meandering, then picks up for a moment, only to plunge back in to some sort of wistful, breezy cacophony of stupor. And just when I'm ready to write it off completely, seems to pick back up again with a catchy sample or neat melody, only to then throw me back into it's lazy, hazy swamp of synthesizer goop.
This album kind of reminds me of the Bjork album I listened to earlier. It's a little less alien-like, but exudes the same energy. I really don't think artsy European house music is up my alley. I don't get it. The whole album blends together, and makes me gloss over and tune out. Fave tracks: Girl VII, Spring
Meh
französische Lieder die man gut im Hintergrund laufen lassen kann
Individually, I like the dance beats and indie pop, but I'm very uncertain as to the success of the pairing. Disappointing in that I thought this would be right up my street
This easy-listening album full of chill alternative dance music is the debut album from English band Saint Etienne. The band drew inspiration from the house music scene that was exploding at the time, and combined it with their love of 60's pop. This resulted in fun, bopping beats accompanied by the beautiful voices of either Sarah Cracknell or Moira Lambert. I enjoyed listening to this album, but none of the songs really stuck out to me as amazing. The pop genre can be pretty predictable which leaves me wanting more excitement.
Felt like this may have been more popular when it was released compared to now. Really only enjoyed maybe a couple songs. Other than that didn’t find it too interesting. There were glimpses of pretty good pop dogs but none that stood out. 4.0/10
Trip-hop, alternativ dance, House vibes, god vokal
The singles bopped a bit, and Like the Swallow was at least interesting, but the rest of the album was so damn boring.
Carn't sleep put me to sleep. Started skipping tracks. Why am I getting house albums? Give me something that rocks or I'm out of here.
Nogal traag en repetitief. Heeft wat weg van een minder goede versie van 'massive attack'. Het kon me niet bekoren, maar net niet moeten doorworstelen. Kan oké dienen als achtergrondmuziek, maar niets meer
Aggressively mediocre. This list looks worse every day.
Nice
Interesting grunge dive. Can’t help but feel they aped nirvana a bit.
Interesting euro vibe. Didn't get into it
Al final todas suenan igual
somewhat enjoyable but forgettable
Eh. No need to listen to it.
Ok background music
Not in the mood. Especially after Smokers Delight. Maybe a 3 on a good day.
Drifts past like a gorgeous fluffy cloud, and is roughly as consequential.
Mild generic stuff.
Eh.
14th September 2021 Listened through the day while at home home. Gym, baby driver, quiet day. I quite enjoyed this, I like the mixing of 90s indie with dance beats. A couple of good tunes in here.
A drag. 5/10
Erg slap popalbum
not totally sure why this is here. it isn't bad or anything, its actually pretty decent lofi/electronic music 2.5
Ok pre listen thoughts: generally, anything with a French name (unless actually French) will be hipsters, but beyond that, I can't tell. The cover art isn't any particular genre trope. All the song names are in English so yeah, wankers/hipsters. Ok it's cruisy dance-ish music. Doesn't really go anywhere - I can't imagine anyone getting excited about this. aaaaand 45min later I'd pretty much forgotten it was playing. It's not awful, it's just a complete non-event. 2/5.
een beekje
Bizarre album.
all filler no killer
It's like early 90s alternative dance music I guess...not bad but forgettable.
She's the One e Nothing Can Stop Us, talvez Like the Swallow também. Mas só. Num álbum de 15 faixas...
Not my type of music for now
Boring
not for me.
Did not care for it, singer was ok
That's a no from me, Dog.
Like when I went to raves. Only worse.
Eh, I didn’t hate it but there wasn’t much to like either. It’s like modern telephone hood music.
I can see the appeal, but not doing much for me. Leans a little too heavy into early 90’s r’n’b for my tastes thus far. Gets better as it goes along, especially when it hits the 4/4. Definitely some cool things going on here, I’d be open to re-evaluating it at some point
It wasn´t terrible, but after a while you just get bored by it.
dull
I'm like 4 days behind so its probably time to rate this - didn't love it, didn't hate it, a 2 seems fair. I just listened to the whole thing for the third (?) time not realizing that it was on shuffle - can't tell if that helped or hurt this rating. Perhaps catching up on albums will give me some semblance of a dopamine rush, fingers crossed
Legalzin mas nada chocante
To quote Nina Simone, I'd rather go blind.
This album seemed to go on forever. It faded to the background quickly and stayed there. Some of the samples were fun. The uptempo beats and major chords made for a nice background listen. But, didn’t really standout for me.
Strange French slow whisper music?
Didnt really hold my attention. Each song had little bits where I thought it would turn around but none ever got there
Started so well...
It was interesting? Not really my thing though
Not much of a dance fan, but There were times when I heard the food stuff here. Loved the opening track, rest was forgettable, but I also fully recognize listening on a Sunday morning is not even close to the intended venue. I was in the shower eyes closed listening to ‘stoned to say the least’ and could definitely feel the club trance that may happen if you were grooving and on drugs listening to this. I’m sure it’s much better in those contexts.
Album I'd put on if I had a coffee shop as unassuming noise. Boring.
fun experience only bc i was high; this was the worst album i've ever heard
Some French found sound...off to a good start. A shitty dance cover of Neil Young's Only Love Can Break Your Heart? Who wasn't asking for this? Why are so many of these albums so long?!? Wilson combines the organ lead in from Wilson Pickett's Hey Jude and some repeated found sound...this is like my worst nightmare. It's hard to imagine this improving enough to warrant anything above a 1 star rating. Stoned to Say the Least is the music from a rave scene directed by a person who has never been to one. Or the music from a detective thriller where the protagonist is walking through a club full of sexy youths to find the drugged out girl who holds the key to unraveling the mystery of who murdered his partner. Or it's almost 8 minutes of straight crap, YMMV. Nothing Can Stop Us is the best song on the album I guess. The poker dialogue from Etienne Gonna Die is the Dogs Playing Poker of found sound on an album. You may not hate me, but I hate your terrible album. Of course they're on the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack. Dilworth's Theme was apparently recorded in a London men's room, or loo as they would have it.
Dull
Ok if you like nostalgic indie. Not an album you need to hear though. I’ll never listen to it again.
Oh hell no. The worst of 90s music this. What did they do the my boy Neil? This kind of music really isn’t for me. I find trip-hop as a whole a bit of a bad hang, but as music to listen to on an album it really doesn’t work or hold my attention.
Not for me. 1/5
Not a real saint.
This is awful. And you start the album off with a really bad Neil Young cover. I could not get through this. I’m not gonna torture myself.
Cannot believe you people liked this over Yeezus
Uttered "what the fuck is this" near the end of the album. Clear sign things aren't going well.
It started with a terrible cover of one of my favorite songs and it didn't get better.
"Foxbase Alpha" by Saint Etienne just did not work for me. I did not like the album, plain and simple, and none of the songs really made an impression. It is not my kind of music, and I do not see myself coming back to it.
I kinda liked a few songs, but it wasn’t an outstanding album.
Wrong list dipshit, this belongs on 1001 albums nobody gives a rats ass about. 1.0
Ugh. Like slogging through dreck.
1.21
Repetitive and annoying. Way too long before I was even halfway through. I actually did not need to hear this before I die. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): N/A ⭐: Hated it.
At their best, they make fair music. At their worse they are dull & repetitive. I just don't care for this type of music. It does absolutely nothing for me. The Neil Young cover is serviceable, I guess. Nothing Can Stop Us is the best song. My favorite parts were in between songs & the end because it had no music. 1
Awful. The song Wilson is a bit sus. Check their browsing history and lock them up.
Just didn't grab me at all.
This album is hot fucking garbage
This was fine as background music but not really for me.
Another utterly pointless album that I barely realized was playing in the background.
Oof, this one was just not my thing…I know it’s a matter of taste and I guess I’m too cynical but the whole album sounds like it’s 1996 and I’m in the Air France lounge, listening on a Walkman on my flight back to London, looking at a Benetton ad and imagining what the world could be if everyone would just DANCE. I don’t really like 90s London sunshine/psychedelic rave, adidas track suit, buzz cut with an earring music to begin with, and the singer sounds like Diana Ross if she was from Manchester and not allowed to see the sun. Refrains like “People get free…”, “in this world of ups and downs”, ”nothing can stop us now”, “let’s kiss and make up”….meh I’ll pass
I was pretty much either bored or annoyed with this album. I hated the cover of "Only Love Can Break Your Heart". The electronica elements and the uninspired beats layered over spoken samples didn't do this album any favors. One or two half way decent songs couldn't save this one.
What is this
No ty
DNF
Inoffensive. Not my jams.
kolaz z gatunku muzyki elektronicznej, moze dzisiaj nie zyje, ale wczoraj w uszach dzwonil rownie tragicznie jak dzisiaj
One or two interesting songs cannot redeem this bloated, uninspired slog of an album. Tedious samples, very forgettable songs. Not for me. 1.4/5 - > 1/5
Too "dreamy" and ambient with a 60's feel. Not for me.
Kan fungere som lav bakgrunnsstøy på en sommerjobb, men jævla irriterende å faktisk høre på!
Not a style of music I enjoy
Shitty electro-indie? They do a cover of Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" that isn't horrible...the rest of the album is forgettable at best...another useless pick by Robert Dimnery for essential albums... Big surprise....they're British....it's surprising how different musical tastes are on both sides of the pond. That is something I've definately learned through this generator. All this Britpop/electro horseshit....I just....don't care ....it doesn't translate over here. Nothing Can Stop Us is the original version of Kylie Minogue's hit. This version sucks as much as Kylie's. Favorite songs: Only Love Can Break Your Heart, Spring Least favorite songs: This is Radio Etienne, Etienne Gonna Die, Dilworth's Theme (fuck skits), Girl VII, Like the Swallow 1/5
Honestly, wasn’t a huge fan of this album, there was one or two tracks I could stand, but I found myself skipping getting a few minutes into some of the tracks. The very last song I enjoyed and looked back at my phone to see what it was, only to see it was half of a different album. I think it’s maybe a little bit too much of a first album, trying to find their sound, and they sound like a band who really came into their own a few years later. Unfortunately, giving this one a one, I don’t think I wanna hear it again.
Another one I didn’t need to hear.
Would you like some sweets willy? I have never understood the appeal of Saint Etienne. A stylized and non-coherent pastiche. Foxbase Alpha leans on sampling, spoken word, pastiche of 60s pop culture - and I like that concept a great deal. Yet its execution feels very weak, often done at the expense of emotional heft or songwriting strength. It's a band that were caught in a burgeoning music scene and got lucky - they'd never be signed in any other musical period. Guff.
Yeah, it’s a no for me, dawg
If I was nice I would give a 2. But I’m not nice
Lame
Lamr album. Felt really lazy to me. Completely uninspiring. Weird, out of context sound bites. The cover was probably the best song.
Infuriatingly boring record. Too bland to just listen to on its own. Too artsy to be suitable for any party. Foxbase Alpha has nothing to offer, but pretends that it's a full-course dinner. Saint Etienne is not nearly clever enough as a group to pull this off.
This is not good music much less a must hear album
Skip, skip, skip, DNF.
did-not-listen
I might have liked this more in my youth. I see this now as a calibration type of album that can test you to help you understand what you like. I don't like this and I'm not sure why it's on the list.
somehow felt like they didn’t try very hard
Very 90s dance music that makes me want to relax and sleep more than dance. I can see why some people might like this but it's not for me
They have a beautiful voice, I did not expect this from the cover album. I had totally expected a song that gave off soft vibes or calmed down, I didn't expect hip-hop-like songs to come out of this album especially the first one. The next few songs are calm which I do like because it suits her voice. It sounds like you were in a dream and this is your background voice. I don't like this album though
...No. Why? Just...no. I do NOT like this album. I don't like the singer's voice, I don't like the lyrics to the songs, and I don't even like the background music. I just do NOT like this album, and I do NOT recommend this album.
I think this album is kind of bad. The beat of it was okay but the lyrics and how they were sung weren't great. 1/5
Pretty much everything I hate in music, but one cool song. 1.5 stars
"Wilson" was my favorite "song". I just found most of it really boring with the stock beats and piano stabs. Maybe it didn't sound so boring in 1991, but I feel like at least the Pet Shop Boys had worn out this sound by then. 1.5 stars
Not that great outside of the one cover song
Definitely not my thing
I bet Neil young hates this shit
“The album was recorded in a style which drew on the club culture and house music of the time, but also incorporates the group's characteristic love of 1960s pop, with tracks also bridged by samples from films or by short songs.” Sounds terrible. Is terrible.
Nah
Such a forgettable album, I’m not sure if I actually listened to it or not.
Actively annoying
Maybe OK to work to because it has no emotion
Tentativa forçada de distribuir alegria. Seria nota zero pela versão da música do Neil Young.
No thanks
Weird... slow... sad...
Incredibly bland. The kinda songs that play 10 minutes into the credits of a movie nobody saw. What a drag
Not sure what these guys were trying to accomplish, but they failed.
Only Love Can Break Your Heart Nothing Can Stop Us
Welcome to the most boring dentist office
Seriously does not need to be on this list.
Boring sounds. Boring music. Boring lyrics.
Myönnän, että he ovat bonganneet jotain uutta Neilistä. Mutta tämä levy: miten näin kevyet biitit voivat muovautua näin raskaaksi objektiksi?
Absolutely sucks. Can't see how this made it on the list. Experimental unlistenable garbage.
Painful
Gud så tråkigt
I 100% did not have to listen to this album before I died.
Jeg er med Claus, jeg synes sgu den her var kedelig!
Virkelig 90'er og virkelig ikke mig.
Why is this in the top 1001 songs. How do you call a replay of movie clips or tv clip a song. This was not enjoyable.
not my cup of tea
The first song was promising. Then the rest is just the basic electronic that is apparently mandatory on the 1001 list at least once per week.
bored long before the end of this album
There is really nothing here.
I wanted to like this one....but found the overly done electric keyboard repeats flat (I wanted more sound depth with real instruments) and too long.
I'm trying to build a house, not work in a salon. Silly French salon background music.
Lyrically it is very repetitive, which I do not like. The music is pretty repetitive as well. Its like a short looped lofi.
This inspired me to revisit an electronic subgenre rather than listen to this record.

I don't like this.

Apparently their biggest hit was their cover of Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" - I think it's dreadful. As for the rest of this alternative dance / trip hop album, "Carnt Sleep" wasn't bad, but I wasn't impressed by "Nothing Can Stop Us" which apparently was a hit single in 1991.

What in the world
This album makes my penis soft.
Kicking off with that Neil Young cover was a very turbulent start. Completely tone deaf as to the original-- and not an improvement in my opinion. It didn't get any better from there. This one wasn't worth it for me.
Non!
Tuve que llegar al final del disco para encontrar un tema que me gustó un poco, "London belongs to me".
Only a few hits
Let me tell you a little story about French club/house music: NO!
Couldn't even get through the whole album - gave it a good try, though. Made it about halfway through until I couldn't take it anymore. Ultimately, the vapid, overproduced sound didn't draw me. The whole album very much reminded me of bad filler music used in early 2000s rom-coms.
Couple okay songs. Most of the album just fell flat for me.
Uninteresting indie dance(?) music. Some sampling. Some tracks make a nice background "chill" vibe. *yawn*
Hasn’t aged very well Awful … vapid … tedious
Did not enjoy, very repetitive and boring.
Fucking awful. Complete shit.
I'm not versed enough in electronic music to know if or why this album is significant. I do know the first track sounded like a not-so-great mashup of Neil Young and Ace of Base. Things got better after that, but not remarkably better. There were moments that got locked in a fun, sunny groove. The singer's voice is not what I'm looking for in a poppy dancy music experience. Maybe we'll all hear this album again at a very mellow outdoor post-pandemic rave. Probably not. D
