perfect for a misty chilly spring morning in early march. sitting on the porch, overlooking a field of flowers, mountains on the horizon, cup of hot cocoa in your hands, rocking chair.

Sigh. Neil young. Steven stills. A solid dose of musical Mogadon. Richie Furay is good. Carol Kay is good. Jim Messina is on this. Huh. This album isn’t really historically important except that it has early Neil and early Steven. Csny are important for better or worse but do we want to see every piece of juvenilia? Let’s get back to albums one can justify.

I find it hard to review this. I am so fucking tired of Dimery's obsession with 60s rock, especially when it meets the intersection of his infatuation with Neil Young and Stephen Stills. And country influences. And fuzz guitar. I mean, this is almost the ur-example of a record that would make Dimery splooge in his pants. Ick. I've listened to the album through three times today, and it's alright, I guess. Songwriting, singing and playing is pretty good, but let's get real here for a minute: does anyone (other than Neil Young or CSNY obsessives) need to hear any Buffalo Springfield songs other than For What It's Worth?

Average

Maffigt akustisk-gitarr-mellanspel i 'Bluebird'. 'Sad Memory' är vacker. Av Neil Youngs låtar är 'Mr. Soul' än ok, rättfram rockdänga, 'Expecting to Fly' en fin psykedelisk resa, och 'Broken Arrow' en röra. Stephen Stills bräcker nog honom här, 'Bluebird' är fartfyllt fantastisk och 'Rock & Roll Woman' hittar precis rätt vibe mellan flum och rock. Bästa låt: Bluebird.

Rock & Roll Woman and Mr Soul stand out. I suspect Steven Stills was the strongest part of this group.

Puh this was hard. I thought I like their music better but this record did not age very well… I will give them another chance

Sounds like your average 60's band.

A mixed bag, with some interesting stuff going on but nothing too exciting. Everyone on this record has been involved in much stronger projects

Album 92 of 1001 Buffalo Springfield - Buffalo Springfield Again Rating : 3 / 5 Favorite Tracks : Mr. Soul Great band. Great individual performers. This album just had some bad son choices, in my opinion. After Mr. Soul, it was just kind of meh for me...except Bluebird was pretty good. Still a fine album, but not as much as I had hoped.

first time listening

ok 3/5

Ehh I didn't much care for it. It's fine but it's nothing special given the talent in the group. 2.5/5

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Bluebird (5) 2 - Rock & Roll Woman (9) 3 - Mr. Soul (1)

Starts out insanely strong but lost me a bit in the middle and it disappeared into the background; went back to re-listen. On re-listen, and paying attention - very good. Very blues feeling. Another important album in the development of music; specifically rock 'n' roll. Still that strong country sound/roots (Bluebird).

I am not familiar with this band, at all. Good start, Rolling Stone riff in there, amongst the fuzzy, reversed guitar solos. Stills and Young are in the band, I see. It is feeling a bit uneven at the moment, no real flow or connection between the tracks. Decent listen, a bit patchy, but overall it's alright. 3 / 5 stars.

This is one of those "I've heard of this band but what songs do they do.... oh *that* song, heard that one." Mr. Soul is a jam. Wish all the songs were that good. Some decent stuff. Some dog shit, like Sad Memory. Kind of a 2.5 for me but I'll be generous.

before they got good

I enjoyed this one. It's very of it's time but I think in a good way, the late 60s was a strong time for music.

Uhh I mean sure, I guess.

A bit too hippie folk rock for me. I did like a few bits when it veered into chill soundscapes & made me realize some of my favorite bands must've been inspired by that particular sound, but the rest was not my bag.

Yes, well

I love Crosby stills Nash and Young but this is less refined obviously.

A bit of a surprise as I’d never heard it but have listened to quite a bit of CS&N and Neil Young. This seemed odd compared to what I was expecting. Not unpleasant, just a bit unexpected. It’s OK but I don’t think it’s something I’ll choose to listen to again.

Defined as folk but didn't sound like folk. Neil Young is always worth a listen.

Think I enjoy the Crosby and Stills a bit better in their CSNY era. Found this very enjoyable but only a few tracks like Broken Arrow had the ingenuity I kind of expected from Neil Young. 3/5

I like the vibe and I like Neil Young so easy to listen to. Varied styles and pace- from psychedelic to Country rock.

Close to a 4. I can tell there was a lot of influences from Jefferson airplane and Brian Wilson. However, I don't think this one was a sum of it's parts.

Incoherent mix of folk, psychedelic rock and soul. Not bad, but I don't think I'll play this again. Favorite song: Good time boy

This is an album I’d add to a playlist but wouldn’t listen to the playlist for it

The album leaps about a lot and isn't especially consistent as a result but the talent's there. Young and Stills take turns to pump out some classy tracks. Mr Soul, Expecting to Fly and Rock & Roll Woman were real highs. If those elements had been more coherently tied together across the record we'd be looking at a strong four to a light five. I'm still tempted to score highly because this album preceded and inspired a lot of the more innovative and exciting folk rock that defined this era music-wise. 3.5

Was alright for a Sunday morning

Pretty good, but the floaty tracks are a bit boring at times

Few great tracks, but really falls into the same old hum-drum of 60s butt rock

Pretty nice 60s folk rock record with a surprising amount of diversity. Just good for what it is. 3.5/5

This was good. Shoudlve payed attention while listening.

buffalo springfield again by, you guessed it, buffalo springfield was an okay album. a nice, easy listen, but not something i'd seek out often. it doesn't even sound much like their biggest song! overall, it's folk-y but not overwhelmingly so. the banjo isn't used excessively. most of the songs don't sound very much like one another. "expecting to fly" is a sweet song with minimal accompaniment. "good time boy" is probably the most fun and funky song here. sometimes springfield goes surprisingly hard, like "mr. soul"--i didn't know buffalo springfield could do that. i realize they are still rather easy listening; i am aware they are not heavy metal. i didn't know much of buffalo springfield before today, but i realized how equal of a band they were. songwriting, yes, but most importantly vocals were spread throughout the group. i have to admit i like it!

A little bit psychedelic, a little bit folky, and a lot rock-y, I thought that Mr. Soul was a great album opener. I was definitely hoping for more like this, but as the album progressed, it leaned a little heavier into psychedelic folk, heavy on the folk, and away from rock. A close second to Mr. Soul on this album for me was Bluebird, but even the last quarter of the song derailed a bit with that banjo breakdown. Overall, the album is a bit eclectic, but not in a bad way -- it's a mix of different styles and vocalists and shows a wide breadth of talent among the band members.

pretty good, maybe meh though

I don't know that I've actually listened to any of their albums properly but I've always been much more into Buffalo Springfield than CSN(Y) with whatever exposure I've had to each (in the case of Buffalo Springfield it was mostly the CD copy of Retrospective that I had back in high school.) This album starts really strong but then dips into the mostly okay/good category before closing quite strong as well. It's no surprise to me that two of my three favourite tracks were written by Neil Young and make for great album bookends. Richie Furay's "A Child's Claim to Fame" is my other favourite here.

sounds old and like america

This improved on second listening. The standout tracks are those written by the heavyweight members. Others are passable but not of the same standard.

Never listened to this before. Mr Soul is a banger but sounds like a Satisfaction rip-off. Remember Expecting To Fly from Fear and Loathing. Weird abrupt ending with a heartbeat, but good album overall.

Listen. I think Neil Young is great. An immense talent. A purveyor of bangers. But 9 appearances on this list?

Folk. Rock.

the Young tracks are great (all on Decade), the Stills tracks are OK and the rest is pretty poor especially the James Brown pastiche one. weird to think of a period when Neil Young wasn't established, he must have really stood out as the talented one here

Pretty ok

Not sure whether or not to give a 3 or 4 (3.5 if I could) enjoy this genre and is the kind of album I’d happily listen to if someone put on, but probably won’t rush to listen to again

Listened to this but didn't really notice it. 3/5

I enjoy this genre of music so it was a nice listen, but this album didn't seem cohesive

Venturing a little too close to the folksy side of rock for my tastes

The more I listen to folk rock, the more I realize how generic it is. It doesn't really dare to make new feats (or maybe it does in the form of interesting guitar licks). It plays safe and stays where it is. That's quite boring imo.

pretty interesting

Reminiscent of the 60s. Didn't takeme any place new

Listen to my bluebird laugh She can't tell you why Deep within her heart, you see She knows only crying Just crying Decent album. 3/5

Folk-rock. Ni fu ni fa.

This album was alright but not great. Many of the albums on this list from the 60's are starting to sound the same to me. The generator seems to want me to learn more about Neil Young and the various groups he was a part of

Decent album.

Broken Arrow is an all time song, one of the absolute best. I'm not super familiar with the rest of this album, but I dig the early, before he hit the big time Neil Young stuff. And this was a fun album.

So I've been a fan of the song "Mr. Soul" since Widespread Panic covered it in the 90s. I later learned that Neil put it on his album Trans using a vocoder or some effect that sounded out of this world. That album was also panned, which probably made me like it even more. Now I learn that the song goes back to his days with Buffalo. So far that is the only track I like. The others have been "meh".

A few good hits.

Quite fun. Vibes

Great acoustic folk rock album, I had no idea that they were as funky as they got in “Good Time Boy”. Wonderful vocal harmonies throughout the album, along with great old school fuzz on the electric guitars and crisp, clean acoustic guitars and organ that complement each other perfectly.

Starts strong, and then goes a little too hippy dippy and country for me.

Hard for me to rate this album in some ways. Is it a good album? Yes, it is a good album. Does it contain any classic songs that make this record a must-listen? I don't think so. So while I enjoyed listening to the album, I did wonder if it deserved placement as an album I "must" hear. It drags in the middle. Most of what is done here is done better by the same members of the band (in different musical groups/solo). It's clear Neil Young is the most engaging songwriter (in my opinion), so I would not put this album on the list.

I don't think the 60s are for me.. Perfectly acceptable music but again, no standouts. I like the start of every song!

Neil Young made his way around over the years

It was interesting to listen to this sort of proto-Crosby, Stills, (Nash) & Young album. It had a variety of voices and sounds that I appreciated, but it's not something I'll really care to revisit.

I always forget that Neil Young was part of this band, and am surprised to hear his voice. I wish I liked this more, because I like "For What It's Worth" so much (which is not on this album). I like the band too, I think their heart is in the right place, but it just doesn't shine through here as much as I want it to.

I know the first track of course, but I was a but underwhelmed by the entire album. Not bad but ehhh...

It’s a strange album representing the wide range of popular styles at the time - country, soul, rock, Motown, folk, jazz. It’s a bit of everything. Feels like it could be a cover band but it isnt

I swear all these albums from the late sixties sound the exact same.

Good album but only hints at the great things that are to come from all the iterations of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. A lot of elements on this album are repeated to greater effect on later projects. I recognize this is not judging the work on its own terms, but I can’t forget the existence of the other works and I can’t I hear the things in their later, more refined and capable form.

Sounds like three different bands.

First song swampy, then a bit forgettable but fine

Tää on tätä pohjois-amerikan klassikko-osastoa. 3/5

Ihan jees kokonaisuus mutta siihen jää. Tasapainoilen 2 ja 3 välillä, mutta muutama biisi on sen verran jees (A Child's Claim ja Good Time Boy) että menköön 3.

Folk rock

Lite småtrevligt album utan några direkta toppar.

Liked it more than I thought I would 3/5

It was nice. They should have leaned more into the psychadelic sound. The folk sound was good. The soul sound was cute...a different time.

I feel like this was psych-folk done right. Although the vocals weren't that great, the instrumentals were engaging and atmospheric. 3/5 daffodils 🌼🌼🌼

not particularly memorable but do not distinctly remember any bad bits, may relisten at a later time

Lots of range, even some soul. Neil’s voice less offensive than usual!

-The jam with the keyboards in "Rock & Roll Woman" is cool -Honestly, a phenomenally boring rock album. Just not very interesting

it's pretty enough but just a bit inoffensive and unattractive? there's nothing here that kept my attention for longer. what stood out? instrumentals, especially the punchy bass on Everydays, acoustic guitar solo on Bluebird. I liked Expecting to Fly (pretty vocals), Sad Memory (beautiful electric guitar hidden in the background). I feel like there's lack of any strong hit here and as a result there's no anchor to keep me listening to the rest of it. Pretty cover art . I don't know, it just feels incoherent. 3/5

The only Buffalo Springfield song I know is "For What It's Worth" and that was not on this album. Seems like that's the only good song they have, so this is not a good album. Nothing terrible here but I'm also not too interested in it.

I enjoyed it. Didn’t finish completely tho

I liked this more than I thought I would, but it's getting a 3, as I was expecting to give it a two. I'd say I generally preferred the songs that were a bit softer. You can kind of tell that this is a historically important album just by listening to it, at least in my opinion. Still, didn't impress me enough to get a higher rating. My favourite songs were Expecting to Fly, Broken Arrow, and Hung Upside Down.

Good vibe, j'ai bien kiffé, je pense que j'y reviendrais 3.75/5

It was mellow and good to listen to while I was sewing but not sure I’d seek it out again. 3*

pretty 60s has some good moments but is mostly chill

Has a country vibe that makes me want to drive a railroad spike through my skull.

A proper mix of genres on one album! Usually all different types of music are quite cohesively mashed together on one track, taking only some distinctive parts from the genre, making the song more unique and often times just simply better. Meanwhile Buffalo Springfield, apparently first band of Neil Young, basically recorded 10 songs, each in a completely different style. We have a blues song, country, rock'n'roll, psychedelic rock, funk and many other subgenres. The result of this colloid is really hard to describe. If I try to be straight to the point - all rock songs sound great and fresh, but we could cut the country and blues songs out. Best songs, coincidentally, are the ones sung by Neil Young, like "Mr. Soul" and "Broken Arrow". Other good bit was funky "Hang Upside Down" by Stills. And even though rest of the tracks are underwhelming, the good songs are well worth listening to the whole album. I think I will be happy to explore other records by Buffalo Springfield, to see how many hidden gems are there waiting for me.

3 I really feel like I don’t have much to say about this one. I listened to it twice and still it failed to leave much of an impression. I feel I enjoyed its slower tender moments a lot but it felt inconsistent. Sometimes it was a rock album, others a psychedelic album. It’s even touched on Jazz noire? Hasn’t aged particularly well, I think. Favorites: Mr. Soul, Expecting to Fly, Everydays, Bluebird, Good Time Boy

3 A little all over the place and disjointed, with the songs being very hit or miss for me. I found myself vibing with the album at times, only to immediately be sucked out by a jarringly different and lackluster track (looking at you, Sad Memory). From what I saw on Wikipedia, it seems like there were three songwriters on the album, and from what I heard, it seems like none of them were on the same page. That being said, the Neil Young penned songs were the highlights, and probably a good indication of why he would go on to have the most successful solo career... though I'm starting to think this list of albums may be convincing me I'm a Young fan. Favorite songs: Mr. Soul, Expecting to Fly, Hang Upside Down, Broken Arrow

Much more interesting than the multiple mid-to-late 60's albums I got so far! An eclectic mix. I did prefer the slow-paced songs on this one, particularly the ones on the first half. The second half did not seem as strong, it didn't keep my attention and intrigue up as much. Everydays is such a groovy song, a gem. Expecting To Fly is sweet.

I really liked this.

vanhaa mokomaa.... ihan hyvä mutta vituttaa vaan kun pelasin matchmaking ja sitte on paskat tiimit nii vaikka saat mvp nii tulee +2 pistettä ja tarvii vittu 200 et pääsen eteenpäin vähä vituttaa ni unohtu kuunnella sanomaa... hyvää musiikkia kuitenki,,, broken arrow paras emt...

Souvenirs d’adolescence, à écouter pour l’intérêt historique, surtout pour Neil Young.

Just like the Neil Young I got before this, much of this album is exactly what I would expect from this. Not bad, not anything spectacular either, although I did enjoy it more than Young's solo stuff.

Very chill - didn’t know neil young was in it

Not very exciting - sounds really dated. To be fair, I only listened once through, but it didn't grab me in that time.

This was pleasant, but it mostly floated by like a lot of the light-sounding classic rock tends to. Good Time Boy was the fun standout track for me. I’m likely to re-visit in the future and become more familiar, but it hasn’t completely gripped me just yet.

Before this exercise, I knew of Buffalo Springfield, but was only familiar with their most famous song, For What It's Worth, so I was happy to familiarize myself with more of their music catalog. This album begins with a great rocking song, Mr. Soul. Neil Young's voice is so recognizable. The second song has a slower funky/country feel to it, and Richie Furay's voice is phenomenal. The next two songs were duds for me, slow, melancholic, with moaning lyrics. Bluebird was a terrific song sung by Stephen Stills with a terrific banjo solo at the end of the song. I enjoyed the rock/funk sensibilities that went into Hung Upside Down, and Furay kills his part of the lyrics. Sad Memory is another slow, depressing song. Good Time Boy is a bluesy/funky song that I really liked. The addition of the brass instruments and the brass solo towards the end of the song was awesome. Rock and Roll Woman has an almost psychadelic rock feel to it with the synth solos throughout. Broken Arrow, the final song on the album, was a strange one that I couldn't really get into. The constant tempo changes and musical breaks for random sound bytes just took from the overall flow of the song. Overall it was a great album. It is too bad they broke up so soon, because I feel they could have made some awesome music. Favourite songs : Mr. Soul, A Child's Claim to Fame, Hung Upside Down, Bluebird Least favourite songs : Everydays - Live, Expecting To Fly, Sad Memory 3/5

This was an interesting history lesson for me. I didn't know Neil and Stills recorded three LPs pre Woodstock. This makes CSNY more understandable. Anyway, I know and quite like all the Neil Young songs and none of the others.

Mr. Soul is a deceptive start to the album, as it sounds different to everything else, like it's from another album, another artist. The rest sounds more country folk. The Neil Young songs in general sound different. Broken Arrow is adventurous for 1967.

Good old stuff. 3/5

I had high hopes but it really fizzled out on me.

This album didn’t resonate with me as much as I had expected.

Good. Note great.

I actually known the first track and liked it, but the rest is not for me.

It’s decent psychedelic rock, notably the first song ( Mr soul) has a rhythm akin to I can’t get no satisfaction and the song Bluebird is pretty good too ( but I would’ve removed the folky Neil young bit at the end and in the sequencing I would’ve swapped it’s place with expecting to fly, speaking of… expecting to fly is a grand lush sounding masterpiece that i’am surprised something this good came from Neil Young’s band. There’s also a handful of dull folky ordeals and forgettable tunes that drag for a bit too long in which I wouldn’t be surprised if Neil Young had written them. You notice how all of the good bits I’ve mentioned are in the first half, well this album is front loaded, like very front loaded shame but that’s the way it is 3/5.

It's fine. I love the other album. This seems to be largely the same stuff, but without quite the punch of the album before, or a standout mind-blowing song. And a few irritating live tracks. Not terrible by any stretch, I enjoyed it and nothing got on my nerves too much. The 'Again' in the title is a little prescient though.

Yeah it's nice and that. I'm always just left a bit cold by Neil Young. Obvs there's more variety here because there's Stills too. And some other people! And it's late 60s flower music, groovy and stuff. It's good, but nothing really stands out for me and I just can't see me sticking it on again.

love buffalo! this album was fun. nothing special or spectacular but!

Man this is a hit and miss album. I was ready to give up after the second track "A Child's Claim To Fame" but the next 5 or so songs are great. I really dislike the Richie Furay songs - country/weak - and love most of the others (excepting the confused final track "Broken Arrow" which is an apt title. broken bits is more like it). So essentially the Steven Stills cuts are excellent and he should have kept them for himself. 6/10 3 stars for a messy hodgepodge; I'm glad to have heard the middle of this album which was good enough to keep my interest.

Mr. Soul is a killer intro. I love NY and this song never disappoints. Hippy hippy shake guitar solos just shredding. Expecting to Fly is so evocative and makes me think about the inevitable loss of love. Songs like Hung Upside Down don't hold up too well and seem pretty threadbare. By the time you get to Sad Memory, ugh, it's like everyone left the party except me, this guitar, and this bottle of booze and a little smoke rising from a nub of incense. Overall, this is a familiar album that has not endured the years as well as other Neil Young efforts have. Broken Arrow is possibly an exception where his voice is straight and true and rises high. I love that one.

Fred Flintstone used to eat Brontosaurus Burgers and I often wondered if the taste resembled the Buffalo Burgers one might eat at a county fair. County fairs are an oddity themselves. Maybe 'Buffalo Burgers' is code for porcupine / raccoon / roadkill burgers and thus as mythological as Brontosaurs Burgers. Not sure about that tho since I've never eaten one. Not many buffalos left in wild America today. At one time there were an estimated 30-50 million of those things roaming... 'where the buffalo roam,' ya know? Us Europeans took all of that dusty buffalo-roaming area and turned them into Springfields. That's right, today 34 states have communities called 'Springfield'. Hmmm... that brings me to a thought. I've never researched it, but I'm thinking Dusty and Buffalo must be related , right? Anyhow, I'm betting that this band was assembled to commemorate the death of the Buffalo and Neil Young's voice was brought in to play the part of a poor buffalo breathing its last breath. Nice job, Neil. Like a dying buffalo, I was a little disappointed by this album, but maybe that's the point. Unlike Buffalos, the musicians in the band went on to make more music. This may have just been a launching point. I enjoyed the beginning and ending on Expecting to Fly. Mr. Soul wasn't bad, Hung Upside Down wasn't too bad either but there's too much jamming and the harmonizing on Rock & Roll Women was a turn off. Individually, there are some great elements to this album, but when added together it comes up short.

This was truly "Buffalo Springfield Again" for me, because I didn't see the "Again" at first and instead listened to "Buffalo Springfield," the band's debut album. That first eponymous album opened with "For What It's Worth," and for what it's worth I never knew the name of that song, and for what it's worth it's Buffalo Springfield's best song. But I had to sit through two albums of failing to reach those heights again. They almost get there near the end of "Again" with "Rock & Roll Woman." Everything in between isn't bad. There are some pretty decent songs. But nothing that really grabs you. There are also too many constant stylistic shifts due to the different band members taking writing and singing leads back-and-forth. Clearly a lot of talent involved; but it doesn't quite do it for me.

There are some middling tunes on this album, but Mr. Souls and Good Time Boy are pretty good.

The guitars trading the melody back and forth is a good sound in the opening track but the balance is what really strikes me here. The vocalist sounds removed from the music and the drums come out a lot more than the guitar. I get a lot of country mixing with psychedelic vibes here. A very orchestral opening to Expecting to fly, and the spatial audio really contributes to the track. It's also, in my opinion, where the album turns to very soft rock. Its intimate, comforting using softer tones and a voice close to the mic with distant horns. As much as the music in the album was nice, nothing stands out particularly. The vocals are surpassed by the lyrics, the guitar at times sounds a bit too simplistic for me and the bass comes in and out of existence. There is some redemption from the instrumentation in compositing. Pianos, horns and other feature instruments are splendid flourishes to otherwise uninteresting songs.

I have been told by several friends that this is a true masterpiece of its era. But I can't do much with it. I like about half of the songs after 5 listens and the rest either go one ear in, one ear out or I actually dislike them. The psychedelica/folk combo is not for me.

Sounded good. Wouldn't listen on my own

For someone who's become a big Neil Young fan through this, this record didn't do much for me. I liked it when it cut loose, but other than that it's a good example of acid folk with some heavier tendencies. Just didn't grab me. Favorite tracks: "Expecting to Fly", "Rock and Roll Woman"

Melodic late 60's pop-rock, but at this point i'm a bit tired of this slightly dated sound. Whereas I can still really enjoy albums like Love-Forever Changes, i think this one doesn't quite have the consistency and great melodies. Still pretty good.

Les chansons de Neil Young sont quand même un niveau au-dessus des autres Prefs: Mr. Soul, Expecting To Fly, Bluebird, Rock & Roll Woman, Broken Arrow Moins pref: Good Time Boy

Pretty good. Only a few tracks really stand out. Not really ground breaking stuff but a nice vibe

Not cohesive but also jazzzz bits???

I enjoyed most of it. Don’t think I’d listen again, but really loved the second half of Bluebird

Mid-sixties country rock with a dash of pyschedelia. No wonder Neil Young left - he's head and shoulders above all the others in the band. Best Tracks: Mr. Soul; Bluebird; Broken Arrow

3.5 stars

Some great songs like "Expecting to Fly" and "Broken Arrow", but more filler than killer. The second half is completely forgettable except for the final track.

No surprise to find out this band was pulling in all directions when it was made. Every song is stylistically different. Saved by the quality of musicianship and vocals, however this feels far more like a compilation album than a studio album.

Just OK, which was sad as I really wanted it to be special.

Some nice, cruisy 1967 West Coast rock, a pleasant vibe.

It's not For What It's Worth but it's alright.

Love it! 60’s psychedelic rock. And with Neil Young

Pretty good. Like country rock

The weakest of his albums

Great opener in Mr. Soul, then just fine from that point on. Bluebird was an exception; some great guitarwork in there across a few different tempos. Good Time Boy had a different feel (like something bluesy you'd hear by Traffic). The album is a solid but unspectacular listen.

The songs with Neil Young singing are my least favourite part (also, today I learned that Neil Young was in Buffalo Springfield). The more guitar-driven songs (i.e., Bluebird) suit my tastes nicely.

I listened to this whole album and only noticed that it was Neil Young about 2 minutes from the end. I would like to give it another try, because I kept getting distracted and tuning out. I think that might be more my fault than the album's though. For now, it's a 3/5 for being pleasant but not commanding my attention.

Fine to listen to but nothing stands out

I wanted to like this more, but in the end it was just “fine”.

I'm in general a fan of this kind of music, and there's some good stuff on here: I like the folky ending of Bluebird for example. But a lot of this is kind of unmemorable, and not really all that amzing.

Wavers in and out of not really being my thing.

6/10. Not memorable, but pleasant

Adding Neil Young to my list of dogwhistles for overrated shit along with Mercury Prize and post punk. 6/10

Some pleasant folk, not the best of this genre we've had.

As his other album, it's ok

Belting bit of 60s. And it is a bit, too - 34 minutes or so. Good to hear early Neil Young and Stephen Stills who tend to stand out.

Ugh can i get out of the 60s yet? Its a decade that I cant seem to hate but also cant seem to wholly love. Honestly every song has this mid tempo genre soup with that one overdrive guitar sound. the mixes are great on this album.

Solid album for easy listening. Nothing stand-out brilliant but nice overall.

I liked the contrast between the soft soothing voice and the shredding guitar. Favorite songs - Mr soul, Bluebird, Good time boy

Everytime I think of Buffalo Springfield, I confuse them with Dusty Springfield - who made the song that Cypress Hill sampled for Hits From the Bong. Needless to say, I had unfair expectations for this album. But despite this album not featuring anything close to Hits From the Bong, it was cool anyways

More Neil please

"Buffalo Springfield Again" it's an ok album by a pioneering band, with good songs like "Mr. Soul" and "Bluebird", that showed that Neil Young and Stephen Stills were great up and coming composers, but overall the album has an uninspired instrumentation that sometimes sounds empty, but not in a good and celebrated folk rock style. Not the best Buffalo Springfield album.

Genre-hopping from psychedelia, country, rock, folk, blues and soul. Structural experimentation in the last Neil Young-ish track.

60s rock with a steady beat.

I love a bunch of stuff that most of these Guys would go on to make but I found this boring

More Crosby Stills Nash and Young. No thanks.

There are some brilliant bits on this album but it definitely flags in the second half. It also feels quite long, given it’s not even 40 minutes, which isn’t a great sign.

good opener, rest was mid

ok some good tunes

Alright, not bad

A good album. Don't think I've ever heard of this band before. Favorite Songs: Mr. Soul, Sad Memory, Good Time Boy

This was pleasant, but not very memorable for me.

Good rock stuff

started out strong, disliked it more as it got slower 3.3

A solid 60s album, but otherwise uneventful. It is difficult not to look at music during this era as maybe statement pieces or written as a cling to relevance. This rating was written prior to looking up who Buffalo Springfield was, and that in itself was a revelation. Nevertheless, let us talk about Buffalo Springfield Again. Uneventful, not very compelling outside of initial curiosity. There are those who think that albums are stories to tell, and for some that may be true, but for the most part it would seem that to truly understand Buffalo Springfield, their story needed to be a bit more linear. Solid album by a 60s band, great for the background or on a porch with a beverage and a smoke.

Interesting to hear Neil Young and the others so early in their careers.

With the exception of "for what it's worth" I think Buffalo Springfield is most notable for what came after it disbanded.....Neil Young''s solo career and Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

A pleasant collection of songs. Didn't realise this was the band that Neil Young started in. Not up to the standard of his later work, but hints at what's to come. 3/5.

Stills and Young, usually doesn't get much better. Has good tracks but as an album it isn't as good as the sum of its parts

Country/folk/bluegrass/rock, I think. Super 60's (like always, jesus this thing loves the 60s)

There are some stands out on this album. It has a pretty interesting fusion of country/psychedelics/folk rock. I liked Blue bird, good time boy, and Mr. Soul.

Wasn't sure what to expect, was thinking this would be like the Carpenter's going off of the album art. Mr. Soul is instantly recognizable, hippie music. The album seems a bit all over the place, lots of different styles and sounds throughout. Each song is very unique, they all definitely have the 70s vibe (though this was a late 60s album). After reading some other reviews I can't believe I didn't realize this was Young and Stills pre-CSNY days.

A soft sort of backyard Beatles. Easy to listen to, but nothing dragging me back

Doesn’t really get me going. Lots of talent here but the album just doesn’t have the songs or a particularly great sound to make this amazing. At least from the year 2021.

There weren't any real stand out songs on the album, but after it finished, spotify turned into a really awesome playlist that we listened to for the rest of the night so I guess I like the genre a lot. Album cover was very cool.

3/5 not interesting enough, but still ok.

I was excited to see this, as I’ve heard often about it. But I’m pretty underwhelmed. Maybe a victim of expectations. Glad to hear the origins of later talented stuff though, so there’s that.

I'm a big Neil Young fan but I haven't really spent much time with Buffalo Springfield aside from the obvious (For What It's Worth). I liked this but I found this it to be a bit uneven and sometimes a bit slow for my tastes. Some fun fuzz tones on this record though. I like the sort of Rolling Stones vibe of Mr. Soul (seems like it's clearly a homage, if not outright copy of Satisfaction). The more country rock songs (mostly the Still songs with shades of what was to come with CSN) were less interesting to me. A few of the Furay songs (Good Time Boy for example with some nice raspy vocals) were pretty good - I wasn't familiar with him.

Pretty ok classic folksy rock

Really nice folk rock songs. Buffalo Springfield will always go down in the books for their contributions during the 60's (and the members' later fame), but on it's own the album still hits a sweet spot.

Fine. Some good tunes once you get past the boomer nostalgia hagiography.

Neil young is in a lot of bands

Sometimes a bit to white male 70s rock for my taste. Highlight Tracks: 4, 6, 7, 8

Just ok. 2.7 until Rock and Roll Women then we bump'r up to 3.3

In 2021 there would be a Springfield x Springfield collab album with Buffalo and Dusty called Dusty Buffalo and it would be dope. In 1967 this album sounds like a band that's not getting along, but it works. Feels like individuals writing and recording their own stuff. Stills does Stills. Neil is in some Moody Blues territory, and takes a big swing for Sgt Pepper country on the final track. I don't know who else is in Buffalo but one of them decided a stiff R&B number was a good move. Cool scattered album. B+

Pretty middle of the road album. Some solid work, though absent of any unified POV.

Very Good. Easy listen. 3/5

Pretty enough, like most CS&N (&Y).

A good acoustic album that would be best suited on quiet day walks and drives. I'm amazed by the talent of future folk/country stars like Young and Stills. I particularly enjoyed the use of melodic acoustic guitars throughout and enjoyed the banjo in Bluebird. Liked 6 out of the 10 songs.

Rimelig blandet landhandel. Umiddelbart godt men lidt rodet udtryk... Skulle tro det var en opsamling

i mean it’s alright

average. a couple famous riffs I had no clue before where they came from.

Sounds like they were ahead of their times - hard to believe that's an album from 60s. "Mr. Soul" and "Good Time Boy" - best songs of that album.

I'm not sure if I should be embarrassed to admit that I'd never listened to Buffalo Springfield before (at least not knowingly) - but I dug it. It's like a nice little combo of everything the 60s had to offer - a little British invasion, a little hippie folk, a little country-western, a little jazz/blues. You can definitely pick up the evolving CSNY vibe, and a few of the tracks reminded me of the Allman Brothers a little bit. In that sense, I think I liked every song, but they didn't really seem to fit together. Hung Upside Down was probably my favorite. Good Time Boy gets an honorable mention.

Starts well but then grows a bit tiresome after a few songs. It's not bad but nothing particularly great either. There are definitively better 60s albums out there.

i had far more tolerance for this than i thought i would. 50/50 cuntry ballads and weird shit.

Ok, not as good as Dusty Springfield or Springfield from the Simpsons.

A nice album that wavers between forgettable and classic. I prefer the folkier tracks. Wouldn't skip any of these if they came up on rotation, but probably wouldn't seek them out.

Close to a 4* for me, but not quite

A slightly above average rock album. It doesn’t seem to special compared to all the music that has come out since but for a mid 60s album with such big names it has significance. 6.7/10

Not as many bangers as I would've expected from this group. Oh well

It's a solid album overall but it does lack a track as anthemic as For What It's Worth. It does also begin the trend of 'Neil Young is a bastard to work with'

Cool. Not really memorable for me.

Alright album, a couple of songs brought it up to a three

Psychedelic Folk Rock. Favourite song was Broken Arrow. Ok.

Nothing particularly interesting, but nothing to complain about either.

Lots of great old schoold vibes in the mixing, especially with the hard panning of drums and the nakedness of the acoustic guitars. Rhythms have fallen out of fashion quite a lot which makes them refreshing to hear. Song compositions are also left behind but they have a natural feel to them. Vocals are amazing, lush harmonies and great lead lines

Nice morning listen. It’s a vibe.

Boring aside from the Neil young songs

Standard fare folk rock. Not my fave but not horrible.

"Everydays" might be the only track that sounded familiar to me. I'm not sure if I've heard "Bluebird" before or if it just sounds like Buffalo Springfield. I like Buffalo Springfield in general. This album sounds good enough.

I like some of the songs by Buffalo Springfield, however I haven't heard any from this album before. It was fun to listen to, but I didn't find any new great songs. Classic rock album from the late 60's and the counter-culture era!

cool album. best track is sad memory.

Expecting to fly what a vibe its ok not exactly my thing (esp the beginning) but the end was ok

Of its time. A bit Sergeant Peppery in places

Very pleasant US folk-rock album. The biggest issue is that it's simply not more than that. It's nice background listening during work. But there are no standout songs and nothing about the album to make it truly interesting in any way. Solid 3.5 for the music, rounded down to 3 for being so forgettable.

eh. 3 star.

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Everydays, Expecting to Fly, Hung Upside Down, Sad Memory, Broken Arrow Cutting Edge: Bluebird, Rock & Roll Woman Overall Notes: Sounds like one of those bands where they influenced a lot of others, but in retrospective they kinda blend in with the rest. They also don't really sound like a band but rather a collection of songs that people decided to put together under the "Buffalo Springfield" name. The songs are pretty good as a whole, but not very cohesive. The similarities between Mr. Soul and I Can't Get No Satisfaction just make me want to listen to the original than this quasi-cover. 3.5 rounded to a 3 despite the large number of songs saved because I feel like other songs/bands ended up doing this stuff better, including Neil Young himself. Good songs, but not the greatest 'album'.

some nice quiet tunes like sad memory, nothing too offensive but nothing amazing. might revisit again

Muy bonito.

Nice Sunday breakfast music. Whole family enjoyed it too. Always a win mate.

Much worse than I was expecting, and it’s a highly rated LP ? There are moments, and the first track “Mr Soul” has a cool vibe that I’ve heard before - pretty sure that it has been sampled/copied with much success. Other than that, 😐

Sparkling pop record with a couple of awesome songs, Mr. Soul and Broken Arrow; two really strong ones, Bluebird and Expecting to Fly, and rest a bit of r&b, psychedelic pop and some filler

Country suave con melodías conseguidas

Just fine.

samanlaista perusnäppärää rokkia kuin tältä aikakaudelta muutkin

Lovely stuff. Not my words, but the words of Shakin Stevens.

Sounds like 1960s

Couple of fun songs at the start and end, but a decidedly mediocre album overall.

Better than the byrds

A real good time, with songs reminding me of Rolling Stones, Flaming Lips, it feels energetic and wild and fun.

This album definitely has some cool elements in terms of the instrument effects and some of the production work, but overall it leaves me feeling a bit flat. Not bad, but not really enjoyable either. I feel like this is my experience with every Neil Young album. Also, is Neil Young still alive? I could easily look it up, but I really don't care that much 3/5

Good would listen again but not amazing.

Hi 2s for this one. I'll give it a 3 as it's nearly there and shouldn't be in the same bracket as Surrealistic Pillow, which was definitely a 2. 2.8/5 (but rate 3).

Mr. Soul and Broken Arrow...two of my favorite Neil Young songs. The rest is not bad. Bluebird is cool, so is Hung Upside Down, Rock n Roll Woman.

Pleasantly surprised at the range on this album. Expected most folk rock but there was a nice mix of some harder (Mr. Soul, Hung Upside Down) and bluesy (Good Time Boy) cuts. Song structure on Broken Arrow really interesting. Standout: Bluebird

Again and again. Solid

Was gonna give this a 2 on first listen; on listen 4, i am sufficiently Buffalo Springfieldpilled.

Far out man! I’m not sure I needed to listen to this. I’m sure it was very influential and all…

I don't even remember it the next day.

I learned today that Neil Young was in Buffalo Springfield…. I have therefore found yet another album on this list I can’t stand. Just don’t get it. 1.5 rounded up to a 2 (for the stuff that isn't so Neil Young)

Just ok

Felt kinda bored with this one. None of the songs really had my attention it just felt like good background noise. 5/10

Favorite songs: Mr. Soul, A Child’s Claim to Fame, Expecting to Fly, Bluebird

Yet another from the extended Neil Young musical universe. Not too much Neil Young in this one though. At its best, it sounds a bit Paul Simon, a bit Hollies (strangely), but it's not really cohesive and a bit dull as a full album.

I’m bored by a lot of ‘60s rock. I’m sure it was new and exciting at the time, but for most of it, unless it played an integral part of my growing up (in the ‘70s and ‘80s,) it’s just too fusty to me now. TIL that this was Neil Young and Stephen Stills’ band prior to CSNY, which is a major musical touchstone of my youth, and I’ve been enjoying Neil Young's 1970s solo records via the challenge. I do know and like the singles, esp. Broken Arrow and some flashes of the principals’ future greatness are evident, but so are unfortunate mid/late ‘60s fads like circus organs. It’s riding the line between a 2 and 3. As the fact remains I don’t much want or need to hear this again, I have to go with 2

This was fine, nothing particularly of note other than the album title is humorous

Didn't grip me

I always wait until finishing the album before I read the Wikipedia page and reviews. Am I the only person that disliked "Broken Arrow"? It felt like it was trying to be artsy, but just sounded disjointed and confused. Strongly disliked it. Mr Soul is a great song, the rest of it didn't do much for me. Just kind of bland late 60's rock with a hint of psychedelia... not my bag.

Not sure how well it has aged.

wish I could have enjoyed it but just not my style

This album is a bit hard to pin down, which is a polite way of saying it's a bit of a mess. The opening four songs see the band going from a take on British rock to Laurel Canyon folk to some kind of jazz rock to a dramatic string ballad. The second side contains a couple songs reminiscent of 50s rock. Some songs, like "Sad Memory," are dull and barely there. The closer is an interesting collage of song pieces that stop and restart. My main takeaway from this one is that there is a definite sound of "something happening," where these different sounds are coalescing into a scene. And you can hear a couple great songwriters honing their craft. But to me this one sounds like that young talent still coming into its own without any great songs worth coming back to.

Unfortunately a little bit limp, not too memorable in any way. It's pleasant enough though, I respect it as an album.

Pues vale

Great introduction to Stills and Young

Lowkey tentative.

y muy aburridito, no me gustó

Thought I would like this more but I guess it was just high hopes.

Best Track - "Mr Soul"

Probably super influential and important but I hate this type of music. 2 on the trog scale

Young.

Got kind of old ngl, some soft boy music

Not the worst album on this list, but it lacks pizzazz/something interesting. 2

There were some fun moments here, but this largely passed me by

One time was enough

High 2 Bit disappointed in this

I didn't necessarily hate this album, it was just kind of boring to me. There are some interesting elements in the tracks but as a whole album it was getting repetitive and stale. 4.5/10, Favorite Song: Hung Upside Down

Mr Soul is classical rock and roll but rest of effort was more Folk rock which i found one note . Short lived band that helped develop the upcoming decades sound

I tire of Neil Young

I thought Buffalo Springfield was one of those bands who had loads of hits you just didn't realise. But, no, they have one, and its not on this album. Wouldn't bother with this again

Not a big fan. A couple songs had nice instrumentals but most of this did not do anything for me.

Geht so.... For what it's worth Dieses Album gefällt mir eher nicht.

2.5 - just ok
