Reviews (page 7 of 8)
All I (thought I) knew of Buffalo Springfield before listening to this was "For What It's Worth." After reading the Wikipedia page, I expected to recognize at least a song or two, and "Expecting to Fly" was that song. And maybe "Bluebird?" It sort of sounds familiar, but it also sounds sort of generic. This was..... OK, I guess?
Thoroughly enjoyable. However, it didn't rock me back. Solid 60s rock and experimentation brought to us by some great musicians. Clearly Neil Young and Stephen Stills are talented, and their friendly rivalries pushed them to record some great songs. I even enjoyed Furay's contributions. This one will have to grow on me.
Disappointed with this album.
it has like two good tracks and the rest is bad
There was a couple things that I enjoyed with this album. It felt like country...but like, I guess proper country music that is long gone. I liked the banjo in Bluebird, it felt like a melancholy song, and the banjo is almost juxtaposition with it. The album was mostly just meh. I know this list has a raging boner for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and of course, Buffalo Springfield has both Neil Young and Stephen Stills. I still don't get it. I've listened to this one 4 times now and is just kind of forgettable.
A bit too all over the place for me.
Buffalo Springfield is a 60s beat band of which there must have been a number by 1967. Their album "... Again" is well produced but lacks anything special to stand out and give it a right to play in this list. Actually, this is another example of this list not being curated carefully. There already are a lot of 60s albums included and most of them are great. And then they added some random stuff, I guess? If it's to fill up the 1001, there's a bunch of more obvious choices.
Enjoyed "Mr. Soul"
It's a decent album with exactly 1 good track. That doesn't really constitute an album worth listening to before I die. The longer I get into this project the more I realize there are way too many albums included in the 1001 that have a singular track worth hearing.
This isn't my vibe. There are much better Neil Young songs. Just okay
nao achei grandes coisa.
This was very meh.
Am I allowed to have Buffalo Springfield Again if I’ve only ever had “For What It’s Worth?” I think this album will finally be the final strand in the web of Neil Young for me to review. I’m not a big CSN or CSNY fan, and I didn’t care for Mr. Stills’s solo works, nor Mr. Crosby’s. Mr. Young’s work has definitely been my favorite out of the bunch, and since he’s on this album, I’m fairly confident that I’m in for a good time here. Unfortunately, I didn’t care too much for Buffalo Springfield Again. Most of the songs on this album were fine, but with the shifting from blues to psychedelic rock to folk rock, this album was all over the place, and it felt like it lacked cohesion. I didn’t find myself more drawn to songs by a particular songwriter on this album, nor to a certain vocalist, so I’m not sure what contributed to my unenjoyment, other than finding this album to be uneven and kind of milquetoast. On the positive side though, I did enjoy the songs where Neil Young and Stephen Stills handled the vocals. I’m not sure what it is, but I do like the sound of their voices together. On top of that, I thought the guitar work on this album was pretty good too, and I enjoyed the band’s use of stereo sound, and the way they layered different melodies on top of their rhythms. Despite those assets though, this album just didn’t have any punch to it emotionally, and it felt like this was just a collection of songs without any connective tissue. It’s a shame that my last album of 1967 was such a snooze, but that’s unfortunately been my experience with a lot of the music from the 1960’s.
Listenable but didn’t make any impression on me
Mr. Soul is a jam. The rest are ok. This album is a mix of classic rock tracks and country-twinged songs. Not my favorite album.
This album started off strong in my opinion, but immediately became really drab and low-energy until almost the very end. I would not listen to it in album form again. The ending improved a little bit, but I think this album is just not what I want it to be, so I'm giving it a harsh two.
Album starts strong, Mr Soul is a great song. They should have stopped there, rest of the album is a mess.
Gave it a listen but can’t say any of the songs really stuck with me. The album didn’t feel very cohesive.
Bland
Again, another decent album. Wasn't spectacular, what I would expect from a band with Neil Young in it. No song stuck out, easy listen...
Favorite tracks: Bluebird, Good Time Boy
Meh
not my cup of tea, but i do like mr. soul
I recognize the band name, Buffalo Springfield, but the album didn't do anything for me. Songs sounded alright, but the band's country/folk/bluegrass style just doesn't interest me.
Once you get past Mt Soul, there's not a lot to love on this album
I love a Buffalo Springfield song, For What It’s Worth, but it was not on this album. I found this pretty forgettable, but it was short.
Nothing Special as expected.
my favorite song is do i have to come right out and say it
Started out good, became incredibly boring. I don’t have much to say about this one, just inoffensive classic rock that I won’t be returning to. Album title is hilarious.
Yet another permutation of Neil Young and one or more members of Crosby, Stills and Nash. In this case, Stephen Stills was the patsy (accompanied by a couple of others) and the result is a 30 minute psychedelic folk rock album that apparently took nine months to finish because they all fell out with each other and worked on their own pieces individually. The end result is pretty much as you’d expect, sounding like a compilation album put together from vaguely similar 60s bands but with nothing to tie it together. Eminently forgettable.
Neil Young isn't front and center but it's still a total yawn of boomer rock that you have to be on Medicare to get into.
Forventa nåke ala Dusty Springfield, fikk mange menn i stedet
Loved Mr Soul the opening track, psychedelic- good track, the rest of the album was ok, not much happening, but I do like this error of music, brought us so much more great music!
The album start was a positive surprise, then it fell of a cliff even though it‘s so short.
Album started and I thought here we go. Got worse and worse picked up by one other good song.
Thought it was good at the beginning but really lost interest
Reading the review on here for the album just lists all the "best albums lists" that this album has featured in and says nothing about the music... Having now listened to it myself I don't have much to say about it either.
I'm glad Neil Young went solo.
Meh, it's ok I guess.
As much as I like Neil Young, the insistence of the author in including every CSNY related album he can seems unnecessary. Yet again, this is...fine. Doesn't have any standout tracks, doesnt really offer anything that the other albums don't. Very much qualified as background music. It's getting a 2. It might have got 3 if it had come earlier in the list.
I don’t know what genre this is, but if it isn’t country then it’s way too country-like
How often is Neil Young going to show up on this list?
60slop, O 60slop Standouts: Expecting to Fly • Good Time Boy
Standard rock … but not for me
Kuulosti ihan 60-luvulla tehdyltä. Lauluäänikin oli juuri oikeanlainen - hieman ärsyttävä. Taustalla toimi aivan hyvin.
Whether he's alone, with Crosby, Stills, and Nash, or in another band, I just don't like Neil Young involved music. I want to, I really do. I've tried, but it's lackluster with a few highlights. Favorite Track: "Mr. Soul".
Of fucking course it’s Neil Young again
Pfff between a sad memory, it was not a really good time boy ;-) and I’m not sure it’s make a rock & roll woman !!
It’s OK, nothing special.
there's a lot of spaghetti thrown at the wall here and the only piece that actually sticks is the one Neil Young threw just by himself.
It wasn't really my thing, a couple of good tunes towards the end but not really my style. Very folky and country like.
Ga meg ikke noe stor opplevelse verken musikalsk eller fra tekstene.
A bit too country ISH for me Alright not terrible
Completely fine. I probably will forget about this in less than 24 hours. 2.5/5
Unremarkable hippie stuff.
Two cities not worth visiting again to be honest.
I normally love an album that exudes the 1960s, but it also needs to have charm and hooks. This one doesn't have much of either, and I found myself checking out multiple times. Not for me.
Ahhh how soothing, the first vocal is none other than Neil fucking Young!!! My absolute favorite!!! It's a biweekly event to run into Neil's annoying voice. This is getting ridiculous. I couldn't get anything out of this album. It's strangely quiet at points, and otherwise mundane all around (except spotify temporarily thinking I like Neil Young again). All the deliveries are so standard for their time. I don't feel particularly moved in any sort of way. This is a stinky 2/5.
abominável (tem umas não tão ruins mas pqp)
Meh
Day 15 really like a few songs on this, but honestly, the rest of the album just didn’t do much for me. It felt kind of uneven and, at times, a bit dull. I was hoping for more songs that stood out, but most just blended together. Not terrible, just not something I’d come back to much beyond a few tracks. 4/10 Highlights Hung upside down Rock & roll woman
I really liked Expecting to Fly. Everything else was rather meh and disappointing. Listened to this just after Moby Grape and found that much more interesting.
Really boring. More late 60s shite
This isn’t bad, but I honestly think Buffalo Springfield is more significant as a catalyst to start Crosby, Stills & Nash, and more importantly to me, Neil Young’s solo career. Honestly, most people in this band went on to make better songs, but there is some good stuff here. Young’s Mr. Soul may be the best song here, but Everydays, Bluebird, and Rock & Roll Woman are also pretty enjoyable. Unfortunately some stuff here just isn’t as significant, and some of it even feels kind of incomplete. Like Broken Arrow, moments of it are fine, but it just feels super fragmented. If you are a fan of the artists that came out of this band, check this out, but I can’t imagine it’s worth it to everyone.
All of these folk/psychedelic albums just sound and so bland and similar. I don’t really remember anything about this album other than Broken Arrow, which sounded like they had 4 different song ideas and refused to make different songs. I wasn’t an awful listen, but I just can’t see myself wanting to go back to it at any point.
Played the whole album on a road trip and did not notice.
Mostly boring, Neil Young was right to leave
This didn’t do much for me. Some nice melodies, but otherwise this falls into background music while you host a party for old hippie folks.
Slightly better than I expected but still kinda lame.
4.5/10 Expecting to Fly was ok
2.50
Not their best stuff just a decent all around bit nothing great
First song was like budget CCR with terrible vocals, second song reminded me of the byrds had some decent guitars. Overall very generic, boring and forgettable.
Everything in this genre sounds the same to me
The great randomize decided to feed me all Neil Young in the list this week. Maybe that why every new album sees me less enthusiastic. There are really bad songs on this one. Most are ok songs. I thought I'm going to love Broken Arrow for about half of the song. But overall it's not my cup of tea.
I’m a fan of the multiple songwriter bands - Beatles, Sloan, Sebadoh, The NPs - who seem content to combine efforts and create something distinct they would be unable to do solo. Sure, there’s some papering over just who plays what (or plays at all) in those groups, and the individual songs are often “band” efforts all in name only. But, there’s enough participation and give-and-take from the others that the final songs are group efforts. This doesn’t always feel to be the case with Again, most obviously in Neil Young’s flown-in solo production Expecting to Fly. But elsewhere, even when a song sounds ill-fitting alongside the other material - most of Furay’s contributions - the record shows that everyone showed up to the studio. Mostly though, this plays like what it is: a collection of 21-22 year-olds quickly writing and recording material after the success of a smash hit. It’s fine, but largely forgettable.
Better than I was expecting
its okay
Played it, nothing stood out unfortunately for me.
I had higher hopes for this one, but it just didn’t do it for me. The songs were kind of boring and ran together.
I'd rather listen to this than any CSN (and sometimes Y) album. That said, I mostly don't want to listen to this.
“[it] came to be regarded by many rock critics as a classic of the psychedelic era.” (Source: Wikipedia) How? How? I don’t understand how this folk/country/rock malange is a classic. It sounds like it lacks collaboration, that the members worked separately then only came together to record. The track list doesn’t have a natural flow to it either. Overall: 3/10
The amount of Neil Young on this list in the form of multiple different artists is the kind of thing only a British guy would come up with. This was fine.
i listened to this yesterday and not a single speck of what this album was like remains in my mind. 2.5
Bizarrely inconsistent.
sounds like sad low energy neil young
Kinda boring. One or two high spots.
Love Neil Young but wasn't a huge fan of this. Couple of good songs but overall the album felt a bit wishy washy.
Recognizable band sound. None of the strings particularly struck me as memorable.
de flestes nemesis på denne liste er Elvis Costello. Min er Neil Young. Synes slet ikke sangene passer sammen på denne.
Neh. Volgens mij niet eens afgeluisterd
Meh...It was underwhelming
Not a fan of how it lurches from one genre to the next, with the banjo picker(s) the most naff . On its own though, Expecting to Fly is a fine song.
Kind of sounds like the Beatles. Not crazy into it
it's alright I guess, but kinda drab.
We don't need this one. It's middle of the road at best, a frustrating addition at worst.
It's alright but didn't really make any type of contact with me. Mr Soul and Broken Arrow are the peaks - other than that I couldnt tell you a single thing about this.
Folk rock had always been a bit hit or miss for me, and this was totally the case here. The whole thing was just a bit underwhelming. The songs are okay, but things never really take off. It all seemed a bit directionless. The only saving grace is those tracks where Young takes the reins. There are snippets of his experimentation with distortion and sound that are at least kind of exciting. But it’s a bit of dud for me. ⭐️⭐️
I always knew that something bothered me about Buffalo Springfield. It's Neil Young as I now realize. I cannot stand his voice. The tracks without him singing are ok.
Psychedelia and folk rock are some of the genres I consistently end up not enjoying very much. I simply just tend to get bored when listening to a whole album of that stuff, and this one is no exception Standouts Bluebird 2/5
This was really all over the place. Felt like too many cooks and no cohesion to the album. Most of the songs were fine, but it didn't feel like an album I'd like to relisten to all the way through.
would give 2.5 if i could ‼️
Muy de su tiempo, no dice mucho en 2025.
I had a lot of misconceptions about Buffalo Springfield. To begin, I genuinely believed Buffalo Springfield was a single person, and that he was related to Dusty Springfield. Secondly, I did not know Neil Young was in the band. I think that's the reason they're included here in the first place. 1001 Albums loves Neil Young nearly as much as it loves David Bowie. Lastly, I thought Buffalo Springfield was a country band. I suppose that makes sense, since buffalo's aren't typically affiliated with psychedelia. Also, I think 1001 Albums should've included a Mojo Men album instead: I prefer their cover of "Sit Down I Think I Love You." It sounds less beefy. That song is actually from Buffalo Springfield's debut, but I thought I'd ought to say it anyways. We need more deep cuts and the Mojo Men was a neat band.
Interesting album, but not much leapt out at me.
2.5 I liked the first song Mr. Soul and the last song Broken Arrow. Broken Arrow had a lot of beat switches
White guys playing guitars again like every classic rock station ever. I suppose this was interesting at the time.
I think this is the most unremarkable album yet. I really fail to understand how this album qualified for this list. Buffalo Springfield Again by Buffalo Springfield is just such a boring and generic album for its day. The lyrics all feel kind of lazy and predictable, and I really struggled to feel anything at all while listening to this. Nothing about it is objectively bad, annoying, or hard to listen to, but I just.. didn’t enjoy it. I’ve stated before how hit and miss Neil Young is for me, and this one is definitely in the miss column. 2* I guess?
This is… what, the fourth album with Neil Young on it? Fuck offfffffff. My biggest complaint about Buffalo Springfield is that I often confuse them with Dusty Springfield and then I’m sorely disappointed. “Mr. Soul” sucks. The rest of the album is decidedly mediocre sorta-psychedelic twingle twangle fluff. Yawn.
When Neil Young was singing, this was a 3. When he wasn’t, it was a 2. Rounding down because there’s a lot of much better stuff involving Neil out there.
2.5
Ok 2/5
Decent but same complaint
I acknowledge their place in the canon of psychedelic rock music, but I'm still having trouble with the folk and coutry parts of this record. For the most part this album is insufferable wailing, which I was expecting due to Mr. Youngs prensence. I gave up on most songs after few minutes and skipped ahead. Nope.
Plenty going on here. 1st track drew me in, but the 2nd had me running for the hills. Weird. Really enjoyed ‘Bluebird’, and ‘Rock & Roll Woman’. The rest was ok.
After one listen I can't make up my mind whether I like it or hate it. Maybe after a few listens I might decide. But life is too short.
Great initial song, then some boring songs. Had to skip over one that was churchy sounding.
I was not impressed. Two out of five.
Uhhhh das ist ja mal langweilig Bluebird ist nett aber nach der streak an guten Alben ist das einfach nur tod
A cool guitar album: raw fuzz tones mixed with bright and energetic acoustics. Uneven set of songs though with a pastoral country folk sound that gets a bit sleepy.
Interesting bits and pieces here and there but in general not a fan
It started off decently but didn't go anywhere too exciting. I enjoyed the time but wouldn't hunt it out again. There's better examples out there.
I have not heard any of this one before. The opening track isn't clicking for me, except some of Neil's vocals. Second track is fine, probably would grow on me. Okay, by track three this is taking a turn. This isn't feeling like a cohesive album. Sonically fine but I find myself confused. Hmm, I don't care for Expecting to fly. Some nice banjo on five. Six, made me a little nauseous. Seven, not into the vocal cadence. There are just better songs like Good Time Boy on albums where you expect to find them. Rock and Roll Woman is an alright song. The vocals are pretty good, the composition could be tightened up. Again on Broken Arrow Neil's vocals shine. There was potential but ultimately it sounded like musical equivalent of what we call the junk drawer. Full of disorganized stuff that has potential to be useful.
Not quite
Quite underwhelming, actually. There are a couple catchy tunes, but it's very folksy, almost country in many spots - which I abhor. Neil Young is in this band, but doesn't sing most of the songs - they do a weird rotation between 4 guys. That's fine, just an interesting tidbit, as Neil Young is so famous and the other guys are not. Perhaps that's why Buffalo Springfield didn't last. This is a 2.5. There are some really nice songs on this album, but there's some dreck as well. I'm going to give it 2 stars because there are just too many country-ish songs for me to elevate it to 3.
could i write poetry to this? n
Again?
Well well well
For what it's worth I didn't rate this too highly. Started off strong but quickly faded
Ugh. More Crosby, Stills and Nash... This one was short and sounded like the Rolling Stones.
I kept losing interest in the album, then there'd be an interesting riff or lyric that I'd pick up on, and then I got bored again.
Started well, but got me bored pretty quick
- Neil Young rocking on the opening and closing tracks: 👌 - Every other song: ✋
Wildly underwhelming. As someone who thinks Neil Young can do no wrong - I was mistaken.
Ok
Boring hippy crap
If there's one album that screams 1967, this is certainly the one. Singing, guitar sounds, melodies... it has it all. Unfortunately it's my least favorite era of rock, minus a few select bands, of course. And this album didn't swing my opinion; if anything, it made me dig my heels in. 4/10.
Rating: C+
Not a fan of Buffalo Springfield Again, the first half of this is rubbish, the second half is fine, Hung Upside Down and Sad Memory are the standouts but it doesn't offer me anything exciting, 2/5.
Buffalo Springfield, AGAIN? I did actually prefer this to much of the other Neil Young stuff we've had - it's less focused on his vocals, which is a good thing. Improves as the album goes on, but it's not particularly coherent or memorable really. Like Phil, Hung Upside Down probably my favourite - it has the most energy to it. A high 2/5.
This one was not good at all. The last track was really good though
It sounds like any rock record from the same period of time. Nothing exciting. I get that back then the music was better, but come on, it doesn't mean that it's a must listen album before death. The editors of this list must be some old bastards.
#397. What, more Neil Young for no apparent reason whatsoever? What is it, my birthday? This 1001 Neil Young albums you should listen to before you die playlist is really paying off! 2/5: Everybody doesn't want less Neil Young!
Could not into it. Not terrible, just not that interesting.
A bit boring but the music is not bad. The album ends quite fast so there you have it.
The tracks without singing were the highlight.
Occasionally hints that good songs are in there but did not enjoy
not sure if this generator could have more Neil Young if it tried
Feels like multiple artists playing a few songs each, couldn't connect with the album as a whole.
Expecting to fly had some cool harmonies, sort of a precursor of what was to come from CSNY. Broken arrow was also a decent song. My favorite part was probably the last 50 seconds of the album. Everything else on here felt like it should’ve been a B-Side or a demo on some special edition of a real album.
All Apologies to Neil Young, who I’m usually a big fan of, but this did not do it for me at all. Most of You g’s songs were quite dull and Broken Arrow had me scratching my head multiple times. The album’s two saving graces are 1) Sad Memory, which was an entertainingly miserable ballad, and 2) that it was short. Otherwise, I really don’t think I’d have bothered
Started or strong, and then it wasn't. Sporadically ok, but not something I'd go back to. Not terrible. Two stars.
Dated and boring. Neil Young was always better solo and the rest was dull.
love expecting to fly (and mr soul to some extent), but the rest though 😟 it just got so boring despite this being only 33 minutes long. everything else was just so meh. no other standouts and the rest just blended together imo. 2.5 but leaning towards a 2 here personal favs: expecting to fly
Not super into it
fine.
The ending of "Bluebird" had some really nice production, but other than that the album was below average.
Third day in a row that I am listening to the same type of music, from the same era... and how fortunate I am to have spent my teenage years in the '80s Of all his work, there is only 1 song by Neill Young that I can stomach hearing with frequency, and listening to this album I am scratching my head as to why he was in so many influential bands... To think that many of my heroes from the Grunge era view him as the grandfather of Grunge. I will go ahead and give this album 2 stars as I reserve the 1 star to absolute works of trash, and this album does have its merit musically, just not my cup of tea.
"Mr. Soul" was a great song. Afterwards, the pace slows down. "Everydays" is way too slow for my liking its catchy but slow. "Expecting to Fly" is just as slow. I am about to fall asleep. "Bluebird" is more upbeat and faster...Alright nevermind. "Bluebird" gets slow towards the end. Its a rather mid album, in my opinion.
I got to the 9th song before I felt compelled to listen closer. I hate to call it boring, but it's doing nothing for me. These songs feel directionless, unmotivated, and inconsistent. I actually liked how they traveled through different styles, with tracks like: 1. - Rolling Stones-esque rock 3. - Jazzy bluesy classic rock 4. Neil Young-core with orchestral elements 5. Cream-like rock 7. Acoustic ballad These are all distinct and interesting, but they didn't offer anything that would make me want to go back to listen. Hard rating for me because I really like the members of the band but maybe together it just isn't my thing.
Maybe this was revolutionary when it came out, but man, what a boring album. No song stood out to me. I am beginning to get so tired of Neil Young as well. There is a handful of things spread across many albums he's done that are really good, but he gets praised like he's the messiah of music for some reason. Fire and forget album for me.
Slow to boring Country Folk.
Standout track was Mr Soul.
Not for me
Niet boeiend, 13 in een dozijn
Alkoi vahvasti avausbiisistä, lopahti ihan täysin b-puolella unetusmusiikiksi. Miksi? Kiiltokuvaenkelit kannessa tuntuvat liittyvän asiaan. Tahtoisin enemmän alun rockia.
Levy on perusluonteeltaan tasokasta filleriä: materiaalia, jonka hyvä sinkku voisi nostaa itsensä yläpuolelle. I can't get no. 2,5
Another 60s rock folky album. Nothing offensive about it, just not my jam
Shortie that didn't leave any impact. Quite forgettable. Has some range but overall too slow and a bit lame. 1st song is best song with the rest of the album trailing off to a "broken" finisher. Middle of the road and don't see it worthy of list. I will give NY credit for being in so many bands and staying relevant throughout the decades...2
Decent album. Nothing wowed me, but there are a couple of good songs. I know Buffalo Springfield through Neil Young's involvement. I know a couple of hits but not much else. This album is an OK listen but not sure it needs to be on this list unless it had a lot of influence when it came out. 2.3 stars
Beat, 1967 -> 2
They were really trying from on top of a mountain of privilege to move the needle. Really interesting musicianship. Had a hard time with the poor rejected male trope though.
First listen Saved 2/10 Top track: Bluebird
It was alright. I didn't love it, didn't hate it.
This was a fairly short album, only 34 minutes. I haven't really heard anything from Buffalo Springfield, except the songs they use in Vietnam movies, so I was expecting that vibe when this album popped up. This album is psychedelic, blues, country rock, it's alright. Others have done this way better and other have done this way worse, so I'd stick this right in the middle.
This embodies the music from the 60's that blows.
i sure do love mediocre 60’s music
listened on 4/7. decent but nothing stood out. 2.4/5
Some tunes ahead of their time, can see the influence…..Bluebird for example.
Most of the songs were missing from Spotify. The few that were there were just ok. 2/5
It's alright but it is still Neil Young.
Not bad. Not great.
Fourth album in a row that I've only saved two songs from, which is disappointingly low for me. Our first from Buffalo Springfield, and unfortunately it does not have the big hit. It's not a bad album by any measure, which is really the case for each of the last few albums, but is it essential? Is it really a "must listen before I die"? To that, I say no. It's just yet another '60s rock album that doesn't even veer enough into psych territory to be terribly interesting. Favorite tracks: Bluebird, Rock & Roll Woman. Album art: Pretty cool collage style art, with bandmates and animals pasted on a cliffside scene. Font is really cool too. 2.5/5
bit folksy for me, ended and I'd not realised until a completely different song was played almost 40 mins later
Never took much notice of Buffalo Springfield at the time. I always thought their sound was a bit too countryfide for my tastes. Over the years I have become more interested in the Laurel Canyon artists and as a result have given these a listen but never this album. It was not a bad album to listen through and there was one or two tracks I really liked. Everydays was a surprise as I had forgotten Yes had recorded this on their first album and which I really liked at the time. One or two new techniques for the 60’s are evident as in final track for example making me wonder in this was Buffalo’s ‘Sgt Pepper’. An OK album but not one I’m likely to go back to.
I actually really enjoyed this. So a 2 isn't giving it justice. But so many amazing albums are at a 3 right now that this just doesn't cut it. But it's good.
Ugh.
First song is good. The rest is mostly boring.
Slow paced and predictable, not an album I would revisit
Another US band.. 🙄🥱
Folky country music - with Neil Young.
Chill album, maybe too chill. Didn't find myself getting into anything.
it’s surprising how flaccid some of this stuff is
war ganz nett
It’s very 60s rock. It was OK but nothing special. I would give it 2 stars.
Shines in some parts (the parts that sound like proto CSN), but most of it sounds like every other psychedelic/folk/americana album from the late 60s. And by now, 400+ albums into this challenge, I’ve had a fair few albums in this vein, and I’m probably starting to tire of this sound.
Melko tylsää moppitukka-poppia, ei tästäkään jäänyt mitään mieleen
Classic rock with country/bluegrass. Not too bad.
I liked the album length. Pretty mediocre. Some really slow or instrumental songs. But not bad sounding, just boring at times. Also this is called Buffalo Springfield Again, which means that there is going to be a Buffalo Springfield self titled on this list. Smh. High 2.
4/10 - It was pretty boring, not really a good set to listen to at the gym. Broken arrow was really interesting but not good.
a little too bluesy for me? I now see why no one liked the 80's iteration of this...
Meh
It's just a bit too meh for me.
Nice try, sneaking Neil Young into here. But really, this is just standard late-60s fare. Move on, nothing to see here. 2/5
Best Song: Mr. Soul. Love me a good Neil track. Worst Song: Sad Memory. A song so muted it's almost nonexistent. Overall: It's never a good sign when, while listening to an album, my ears eventually perk up and I think "Ooh that's a good one", only to realize that the album ended and Spotify just played some related other song to continue the trend. That happened here.
Not bad, but not something memorable. Did not manage to catch my attention.
Only so so. Was hoping for better.
Didn’t like it that much. A bit boring
There's a lot going on musically in these songs, so I appreciated some of the musicality. But overall, not a fan.
En voilà un qui ne m'avait pas manqué
2/5. I like Buffalo Springfield usually and Neil Young being a part of the bands definitely adds to their allure. Otherwise this album has no rhyme or reason and it didn’t really have a flow or point.
This was really boring.
Avg pysch rock 70s shit. Some interesting production here or there
Wasn't really here for those 60s rock numbers, but I enjoy the more slow acoustic numbers more than I do the other stuff. Added 1 track to my main playlist, then saved another one for later, which I'll then make my mind on.
Just bored me after the first track. I respect the talent, but doesn’t make me want to listen to it more than once.
5/10 Rien de spécial a retenir
Like yesterday's album, just ok. Nothing I will remember, just indifferent.
Rating: 5/10
60s sound, did not enjoy and didn’t feel the need to listen to again like I did with other albums. Glad I listened as it’s an artist I haven’t listened to before but won’t be adding them to my to listen list 5/10
Buffalo Springfield. Pleasant non essential fare. Only album of theirs that should be on this list is that other one with that song we all know. 2.5/5 rounded down.
Did I *have* to hear it? - 2.5 rounded down
Een aantal langdradige nummers. Was geen fan van dit album
The most interesting thing about this album was finding out that Neil Young and Stephen Stills were in Buffalo Springfield. That was news to me. Other than that, the track "Good Time Boy" was the only thing that grabbed my attention.
This just felt really boring and like some songs chucked together rather than an album Disappointing
Just your typical 1967 album
meh
Dagje vegetarisch: vlees nog vis.
Hartstikke vriendelijke muziek hoor, maar een mens kan hier ook prima zonder.
Eclectic. Not a patch on For What It’s Worth, but hey they can’t all be hits.
Thought I'd really like this
I'll never understand this era of music and the the love for the likes of Neil Young. Someone once told me how "rockin" he was. I still don't get it.
Boring
It’s a snooze fest that would be best enjoyed under the influence of some psychedelic drug.
Meh with the exception of 1 or 2 songs
Kinda just ok, very dad rock
It was alright, musically sound, but there was just something missing. Best tracks: Mr. Soul and Bluebird
60's music doesn't generally do much for me. This country tinged twang fest didn't sway me. Neil Young may be a godfather but his voice is grating. There is some nice guitar twiddling going on in parts. I'd much prefer Buffalo Tom. Or Grant Lee Buffalo. Or New Buffalo. There are better Buffalos out there!
Didn't mind this, but also it didn't grab me. Psychedelic folk rock is not something I would normally listen to, and I doubt I would deliberately play this again. Very much a time capsule, especially Broken Arrow, which seemed to drag on a bit, too. Good Time Boy stood out, partly due to the soul edge which isn't there in the other tracks.
It's about time I got round to listening to this with Diesel Park West banging on about it for the past thirty years. There's an awful lot of different styles jumping around here. Mr Soul is a promising start. But then it seems to run out of steam for the rest of the album. I prefer DPW tbh.
Sinänsä kiinnostava kuulla, mistä vaikka Young on ponnistanut.
Classic Rock, in parts too classic for my taste
Not bad, but nothing grabbed me the way a lot of stuff from that era does. The album is lacking a classic tune, a For What It’s Worth, that would bump it up a star. The last two tracks were good though. Also, I can’t not acknowledge the large debt that the opening track owes to the Rolling Stones… 2.5
Pretty dull.
I liked Sad Memory. The rest was kind of forgettable to me. Chill enough though.
it's alright. I really wish i could rate it out of ten 5/10 2/5
Mäh. Eine Sixties-Platte. Brauche ich kein zweites Mal.
Not too much that’s noteworthy on this thing. It’s not bad but it just sounds like generic folk/psychedelic rock. 4/10
when a song i genuinely liked came on i looked and it was just an autoplay song smh
Unmemorable
I'm a big fan of Neil Young, but less so for Buffalo Springfield and CSN, so this was a mixed bag for me. So not surprisingly I really enjoyed the Neil Young songs: Mr Soul, Expecting to Fly and Broken Arrow but the other songs just don't resonate with me.
A high 2 that has some great tracks ("Bluebird" rocks), but is all over the map when it comes to track flow and thematic consistency. Veering from great emergent 60s' rock songs to weird country-ish ballads on to anthemic concept pieces does not a cohesive album make.
fuzz guitar. folk rock.
Not particularly memorable, but not horrible.
Chato demais
Maybe not the ideal situp background music
Correct, sans plus. Sans grand intérêt. Cet album ne va pas dans cette liste.
I knew a few of these songs already. I liked this style of music more during my college years than I do now, but I can still hear the quality.
Mostly nothingness
Feels entirely 60s. There is a lot of dreamy, psychedelic folk rock. I'm sure this would have gone crazy when it first came out. Unfortunately, this album just feels a little forgettable to me. Best Songs: Mr. Soul, Rock & Roll Woman, Broken Arrow Worst Songs: A Child's Claim to Fame, Hung Upside Down
I thought this would be an easy win - I love Neil Young and CS&N, but I don’t much care for this one. Just a bit noodly and directionless. I like Hung Upside Down - sounds like the sort of track that pre-empts a lot of the 90s indie I like.
Just the Beatles. No reason to listen
Is the intent of this list to have albums that represent what happens when grown men decide they don't like to play with each other? Mission: Accomplished.
The album is 30 minutes long and I struggled to get through it. I was familiar with this group but only because of For What It's Worth. Unfortunately that song is not on this album. The album does not have a consistent feel. It goes from folk to rock to soul and back. I did not care for it, but I will round up.
I like the first track, but rest sounds too sappy to me.
There were some good guitar parts, and I did enjoy parts of 'Broken Arrow'. But mostly this album didn't do it for me and I tuned out a lot of it.
1967. Mr. Soul, Rock & Roll Woman
Suffering from an overdose of that sixties spirit
Hi- Expecting to Fly, Good Time Boy (my old nickname) Lo- None, really Pretty nice, polite album that doesn't stand out in any meaningful way. Not entirely sure if its inclusion here is meant to expose this as some triumph, feat, illustration of influence. Every track is well crafted, none are jarring or offensive in any way, but still probably not something I would keep in regular rotation.
Sort of a snooze, which explains why Neil Young had to use crowd noise from a Beatles concert on the last song on the album. No way a crowd would be that excited at a Buffalo Springfield show.
Þetta er voðalega týpísk late 60s köntrírokkplata með örlitlum hippafílingi. Ekkert sem stendur út úr restinni af slíkum plötum.
Didn't gel too well with me.. couple of decent tracks (bluebird and broken arrow are pretty great) but the bits in-between are quite typical late 60s early 70s rock.
Apart from a couple of songs that stood out, the album was a little.. I don't want to say boring. It was still good to discover more from the band other than For What It's Worth.
Not my cup of tea
This album was pretty forgettable... very 70s sounding rock
okay? i guess not very memorable
Alright. The first song is pretty great, and its an important point in the development of Neil Youngs amazing career, but as an album its nothing special.
A bit all-over-the-place, this seems like a choice for those who are already committed to their Neil Young fandom. Most of the songs are fine, but the listening experience is not that of an album.
I had high hopes for this album, but man... it was such a bore. I honestly had difficulty driving on my commute home because it was putting me to sleep.
A very folksy, psych rock, a very familiar sound, not sure if I've heard some of their tunes previously or if their sound has been replicated throughout time. Best: Bluebird Worst: Broken Arrow 2.5 Stars
An uneventful, OK listen. What it does well though is give you enough of an itch to check out other Buffalo Springfield albums.
sure, man. sure.
Not quite my tempo.
Music by Americans for Americans
Old Neil Young. 2nd song more Laurel Canyon sound (like it). Enjoyed the more country parts of the album, but overall very underwhelming. 2/5
Meh. Wasn’t really doing it for me
Bit of a dirge compared to their first album. Don't think I'll be returning.
If you like folksy Americana then you might get something out of this. Well performed , well written but merges into the genre.
Meh
Bit Shit.
Was decent.
- fun country-esque energy - dreamy with engaging solos but no distinct hooks - muddy drums and vocals
Not really my vibe.
It was OK. Not really vibing with these suggestions so far
It's exist I guess
Idk if it's just old but didn't really standout to me
Too much Boomer in this for me
Explosive intro. Scared the shit out of me lol Mr.Soul sounds like the foundations of I Can't Get No Satisfaction, but the tone works well together. Vocally and with the instruments in general. But I think I hear some cutting going on with the distortion guitar? Not too sure. A Child's Claim To Fame, completely different group. Surely? Not even the same tone and feel as the first song. Was a bit off-putting, hearing distortion guitars one second, the next it's a country ballad. Hmmmm. Everydays - Live....a live performance midway through an album? Who decided that was okay? I mean, the tone still fits but the refinement is a little jumbled compared to the studio recorded tracks. Maybe I'm just too used to Live performances being counted as bonus tracks. I don't know... Expecting to Fly, another tone change. A very mellow ballad now. Continuing the country sound rather than the distortion. I've now come to terms with the fact I'm listening to a soft rock country album. But this is a very nicely put together song. Definitely one for the fluffer mix, or a stoner mix. Both moods work for this slow jam. Bluebird gives some energy back into the album now. Proper 60's sound coming off this song. Really using everything this song, all the guitars. Hung Upside Down; did they switch singers? And guitar pedals? I have so many questions about this album I will never get the answers to. Sad Memory; definitely the singer flexing them vocal chords. Basic songwriting at the least though, but consistent. Though the ending just happens; hm. Good Time Boy reinforces my question of asking if they keep switching lead singers. But it sounds more soulful this time around, than rocker or country. What is with all the change ups? Rock & Roll Woman; not too impressive. Sounds like a Beatles reject. But fits the tone of the album. Broken Arrow; not too sure what the hell is happening on this song. Is it a live performance or not? Why the inclusion of the crowd intro? And why couldn't I hear the vocals for the first part? This one is definitely a groaner. And wtf is up with the merry go round synthesizer? Overall, this album struggles to maintain a consistent tone and the songwriting is basic in my opinion. A few good songs here and there, but the lack of consistency makes this a miss for me. 2 stars.
Fine. Was on in the background so maybe didn’t give it enough of a chance, but it did nothing to grab my attention. Not offensive though
Nothing really grabbed me from this album. It was fine, but I didn’t think there were any tracks that made me sit up and listen. The lost listenable of all the psych rock albums we’ve had so far though.
