Reviews (page 8 of 14)

Really cool album

Uitstekende plaat!

When this album first came out I was way too deep in the throes of pop-punk to get much out of it. Revisiting it 15 years later really let's me appreciate what a well-crafted indie/alt record this is

Already one of my favorite albums! They just released new music that sounded like it harkened back to this era, so revisiting their early stuff might help prime their new album.

Bless this album.

I love the hell out of this album. Really quintessential indie music.

Folksy indie rock with some great sense of scale and powerful melodramatic vocals. Thought the opener "Tunnels" was fantastic but not so much the follow-up. It picks up again from there on though, "7 Kettles" is beautiful, the disco-infused outro to "Crown of Love" is cool and the anthemic "Wake Up" is also very effective but I must admit that I don't exactly get the masterpiece status this album has. It's great but nothing more than that.

I really dig it

Never heard it before. Enjoyed it a lot

I really enjoyed this album, more than I expected to. Great catchy, energetic songs, soaring arrangements. Fave Songs: Crown of Love, In the Backseat, Wake Up, Rebellion (Lies), Une année sans lumière,Neighborhood #4 (7 Kettles)

Liked this more than I thought I would, saved two songs.

Muito bom.

Part of it is treadmill music. Part of it is montage music. And I don't mean that in an Eddie Haskell sort of way.

big up for Wake Up giving me a moment one time

I’ve listened to this album before but once it came up here I tried again. I listened to it 3 times mainly because it’s so easy to get lost in the songs. They are very enjoyable and feel like an indie orchestra. It follows the pattern I find great of music that sounds uplifting but the lyrics are the opposite. This album is an indie staple. 7.9/10

very yas

Buen descubrimiento.

Heard it before but not for a few years. One of my favourites from when I was a teenager, very catchy and much prefer it to their later albums. Very youthful sounding album

This is a vein of indie rock from the 2000s that I find quite enjoyable. Now normally I enjoy a raw and rough sound, but this is one place where I think their mellower sounds later in their discography really shine, and the rawness seems detrimental to the overall feel of the album.

Good album but I have heard it several times before when it was first released.

2004 - indie rock

Pretty cool atmospheric indie rock. Reminds me of Bright Eyes but less emo

Pretty good! Have it on vinyl!

Favoritne pjesme: Neighborhood #1, #2, #3, #4, Wake Up, Haiti i Rebellion (Lies).

Wake up är!!!!

It's arcade fire

I am sure that I have heard of Arcade Fire, but I cannot quite place what work I know of the band. This album was all new for me. It was musically interesting. I don't know how often I will actually seek it out for a listen in the future, but it was nice to spend the day with it today.

Liked it a lot, beautiful, might have to Listen to it a few more Times tho

Surprised by this one. Not a huge arcade fire fan, but I hadn't listened to this one. While not exactly my cup of tea, I can see the hype.

Did this one cause the Indie hype? Further listening required

Indie - Kinda poppish - would totally listen to again

Wake up is a great song 👍👍

Like it

Indie rock. No está mal.

this is my first album so i'm not sure what to say hear but i really enjoyed it and want to give it more listens

Indie pop perfection.

Rebellion (Lies) is an absolute tune. This was peak teenage fun times so my rating is mostly based on nostalgia.

8/10. really good and emotive. almost gave this a 9 but i think it needed more contrast- there was too much loud, layered, choral vocals stuff so that things just kind of ended up blurring together in a way.

7/10. Sounds like 2000's Indie Music, for better and for worse.

I feel like they pulled a lot of punches despite having some compelling ideas. 7/10

The highlight of the album is the magisterial Wake Up. All the tracks before it feel like one long introduction and build up to this particular highlight. I find this album quite hard to pin down - I enjoy the music but I don’t know what the band are trying to say. Maybe this doesn’t matter.

It doesn't fully hold my attention the whole way through, but really the only thing I can say negatively about this. Soundscapes are insane #whenyouwatchingthemovieandwakeupplays Already Saved: Wake Up; Rebellion (Lies) Saved After Listening: Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)*, Neighborhood #2 (Laika)

Picks me up when i'm feeling low

Nice and chill. Overall enjoyable.

Solid 4 Stars - great album that I've listened to several times before. There's something about it that may not completely click with me, which is why I haven't given it 5 stars.

Prefer the later albums, rougher round the edges than I remember. But a sign of good things to come.

Tres bon. On voit ou il s’en vont, un apercu de ce qui s’en vient. Ca vaut le detour franchement . 4.5

good enough to listen twice

I think I had too much hype going into this album and my unfairly high expectations weren't meant. Still, a great album and Wake Up deserves all the plays it gets.

I do actually like multiple songs on this album. I enjoy it and admit my normalcore tastes sometimes

Arcade Fire is amazing. 4 stars.

Had heard one of the tracks before. Sits well within the album which is strong and consistent.

I liked that

I surprisingly really enjoyed it. It has a unique sound and production, the songs don’t particularly stand out from one another but as a whole the album is a good indie album.

Made me watch their Glastonbury appearance from 2007 again, better live.

I actually like this a good deal. It's a bit 'quirky' but varied enough with some neat musicality to it.

An album I’ve been meaning to listen to more. Really liked it. Wake Up is still the standout but the whole album has a nice flow to it

Phenomenal

3,8 Tof albumke! Nog wel men ding! Would play again

Some pretty good tracks. A few fall into the indie trap of simple drum beat + constant strum pattern, but still interesting enough to keep my attention.

Reminds me of my freshman year of high school :)

There is a possibility that I've listened to this album before. Arcade Fire is a band that I wonder why I don't like more. I admire a lot about their musicianship, and what they've done. I just haven't caught that sense of "oh, I need to hear some AF right now". The album is good. "Rebellion (Lies)" is my favorite. There weren't any tracks that I didn't like. This album probably squeaks in to the category of "I'd listen again"

Would give this 5 but might have been influenced by nostalgia, love this album

Really enjoyed this album and the whole atmosphere it gives off! Super fun experience!

Amazingly well formed for a debut album. Sounds immediately like Arcade Fire. Remember hearing it for the first time and being blown away (h/t Stu Fletcher).

nice!! enjoyed

Surprisingly enjoyable. Interesting enough to lift it from the usual indie rock

An early aughts indie classic, obviously.

Fuck, I had notes but forgot to save! It's a good album, very theatrical and purposeful in it's songwriting. Back half had me hooked more than the front. Gave it 3.5 on rym sooooo I'll give it a 4 here

This album was good. Right up my alley. Their hit, Wake Up? Way good. Except the end was part I’d never heard before and I didn’t like the end of that song as much as the beginning.

"He tore our images out of his pictures He scratched our names out of all his letters Our mother should have just named you Laika" (Neighborhood #2 (Laika) Debería escuchar más Arcade Fire porque la verdad es que me gustan un montón.

Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)" Released: June 20, 2004 "Neighborhood #2 (Laïka)" Released: March 28, 2005 "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)" Released: May 23, 2005 "Rebellion (Lies)" Released: September 12, 2005 "Wake Up" Released: November 14, 2005

Indie rock

Better than I thought given that I'm not a huge fan of the singer's voice. Also possibly because one of their famous songs (Wake Up) seems to be my least fav so far.

Pretty good actually...

Takes me back to Ontario! Rebellion lies is still fun.

Man, this brings me back. Great record.

Really accomplished debut. Although I'm not a die-hard AF fan like most of my peers, I really enjoy them, their fun, great live, as is this album. I know most of this album despite never owning it, they are simply so pervasive. Love the rich instrumentation, driving rhythms, big dynamic variations. The most folky/americana style songs are less my style (Kettles). It's hard to judge this album without the hindsight of knowing the phenomenon they would become. It certainly is a stand-out amongst the proliferation of long forgotten 00s indie bands. Favourites: Neighbourhood # 3 (Power out) - ominous minor bass strings Neighbourhood # 1 (Tunnels) - tension Rebellion (Lies) - anthem

Shorter Album, enjoyed the vibe. Very spacious and full of feeling. Most likely has an external cause that drove the album to be made the way it is. Moves like a story.

Pretty Chill Music

Wake Up is a hell of a song but this album is good to listen all the way through.

Nothing stuck out to me, but it was pretty good

Yes fine, ok then

What cave have I been living in the past 20 years? Never heard of this group. Enjoyed it! Oh Canada!

This album came out when I was a sophomore in college so I remember it vividly. I had one roommate who was kind of a dick and he really liked it so it soured parts for me at the time. Regardless there is a nice theme going throughout this of growing up and forgetting your humanness, which as I get older I think about more and more. Wake Up was so overplayed that I can't listen to it much anymore, but the other tracks are still great. Not something I'd always listen to but was a nice thing to come back to.

At first it was fine but didn't stand out. Listening again, though, I like it more.

Classic. Great study album

Love me some Arcade Fire

My revisit to this record made me like it waaaaaay more than I used to. I do really like some Arcade Fire songs but I never loved the band. I’m gonna revisit more of their older records.

Great album. Fantastic band.

A wonderful album!

Modern classic and wake up is legend. Hell of a first album.

So I guess Arcade Fire is art rock/indie rock, which explains why I like this album so much so far. It's exactly my vibe. I don't know if it's objectively amazing but subjectively, I like it very much.

Best debut album of all time? No, but damn if this one isn’t ambitious

the singer is so fucking annoying but very good instrumentals, somber feeling

I quite like a handful of the tracks but I find most of the tremulous vocals grating.

Tried to listen a few time but it just kind of fades into the background. Weird.

It's a fine album. Not my favourite genre of music, but I can respect it.

Some classics but over all - meh

Ok album.

Standard indie album to me. Rebellions obviously a banger.

This album is like a FIFA game soundtrack, but the songs that sort of just play in the background, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, they're just no Song 02, Jerk it out, Kids etc. At the 11th hour, this went from a 2 to a 3. 3/5 Top tracks: Haiti, Une Annee Sans Lumiere, Neighbourhood #3, Crown of Love

Reminded me a bit to Bjork. 7/10

Arcade Fire still hasn't clicked for me. I do like the main single Wake Up, along with a few other tracks on this and other albums, but I have yet to get into that groove of wanting to turn to their albums. This wasn't the tipping point, and maybe I won't get there.

It's not bad.

I quite liked the popular song but the rest were eh

What an interesting debut album. I would say I enjoyed my listening experience but I would not go out of my way to listen to it again.

Ok, it's fine. Idk. Sounded a lot like smashing pumpkins in parts. I really feel like I should like this more than I do, but it's just not hitting for me. Maybe it'd be better live than recorded?

Not my favorite kind of music cuz it's just so subdued and a little emo.

I thought I knew Arcade Fire but I didn't at all. It's not bad! A little indie pop for me at first but really grew on me.

Thematically dense with beautiful instrumental and lyrical textures. I can tell this is an excellent album that gets better with multiple listens, but for some reason I didn’t connect with it.

This one is kind of all over the place. The high points are high though.

2.8/5 kinda mid

Solid post 2000s indie rock band. Not much to say otherwise.

Not their best, not their worst

Indie rock has a generic base sound, and I feel like this is that sound, real early in the game. I can hear it and I can replay it, I can appreciate them thinking outside of the box a bit here and there. I'm probably never playing this again. 2.7/5

feels like something just crawled outside of u

This was a lot of fun and had a lot of moments. There was movement throughout this album, which I always appreciate. Their vocalist isn't my favorite, but this wasn't bad at all. Liked Songs: "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)" , "Neighborhood #2 (Laika)" , "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)" , "Crown of Love" , "Wake Up" , "Rebellion (Lies)"

Surprisingly enjoyable.

Yaaaaa. Not my favorite of theirs, but still good.

3.5 i think

Rock assez down tempo, sympa

I've been getting a lot of this type of pop/rock music lately (and this is also my second Arcade Fire album this week). I still haven't decided how I feel about it. I don't love it, yet I don't hate it, either. It's dark and moody and passionately charged. I'm going to say it's just okay.

c'était ok

Was ok.

neighborhood #1 (tunnels): 6/10 neighborhood #2 (laika): 6/10 une annee sans lumiere: 7/10 neighborhood #3 (power out): 5/10 neighborhood #4 (7 kettles): 6/10 crown of love: 7/10 wake up: 6/10 haiti: 4/10 rebellion (lies): 7/10 in the backseat: 6/10

I wasn't specifically familiar with Arcade Fire, but it's quite possible that I've heard some of their songs. Their album “Funeral” gets off to a promising start with “Tunnels,” but then fails to build on that momentum and gets lost in solid but largely unremarkable indie rock. Highs and lows alternate: good sound quality is offset by rather unimaginative arrangements, and good ideas (e.g. “Power Out”, "Crown of Love") are immediately ruined by Win Butler’s ridiculously thin vocals in this register. The strings are used to good effect from time to time, but the guitar work is largely useless. That pretty much fits the definition of mediocrity.

2 for me until I heard WAKE UP

The most Millenial of early 2000s indie rock (e.g. Mumford and Sons-esque whining). I’ve shied away for that reason, but have a soft spot in my heart for Canadian rock bands (Rush and BnL being two favorites) so open to listening today. Honestly, better than I was expecting with some hints of classic ELO, and maybe some Talking Heads influence. Color me pleasantly surprised! 3.5⭐️

This album brings back memories of the early 2010s, a period that I don’t remember there being much good music.

Arcade Fire really dominated and defined what indie-rock would sound like for the next decade Fave track: Wake Up

Started slow but improved as album went on.

It was alright! Some good songs, mostly mediocre to me. Not really my vibe, but certainly worth listening to.

Not a terrible album, but indie rock is that kind of music where you cant really play it for too long, or it gets annoying. The type of music that plays on the radio, or in a department store. However, in just the right moment, ignoring the genre's connotation, this album had a great vibe. Best song: Une Annee Sans Lumiere.

Occheeeeei

Heartfelt, uplifting, feel-good, A little sad

Uses the classic indie formula of quiet start, builds to a crescendo then either goes quiet again or throws in a tempo change. That said lies and wake up are good songs

It's weird, I've always been told I should check out Arcade Fire, and then I do now and the songs are good, but I still don't actually like them that much. I think I would love this if it were written the same but performed by anyone else. I don't know quite why. The instrumentation choices, the vocals, it all adds up I guess.

while hearing men sing about forgiveness isn't really what i'm feeling at this stage of my life, crown of love stuck the landing and i wish it stayed on that final movement longer. that was kind of a theme for this album--i started getting excited about number of songs after being unmoved for a few minutes only for them to end. feels like it would hit a lot harder if if i had any nostalgia for it (but i cannot help that when i hear the opening to wake up without kind of rolling my eyes). fav: betrayal

This was alright, I wasn't the biggest fan of the vocals on it and I think it held back my enjoyment overall.

This is the first album on this long, LONG journey that I started with this whole thing. I’ll try to journal as best as I can, hopefully everything I feel and notice. I just realised that even if I listened to one album per day (which lets be honest; won’t happen), this will still be a project that spans 3+ years. But I don’t want to stop, I’m trying to be faithfull with myself. The Album: typical early 2000s instruments and vibe, I found it a bit boring – probably because I listened to a lot of other song from this era. But still the last few songs on the track managed to catch me, they all had very interesting switch ups rythmically and genre wise, I liked it’s boldness. 6/10

Best Song: Wake Up. The most "radio" of the tracks here. I have a bit of nostalgia for it, especially the chorus aspects. Worst Song: In The Backseat. I think I had partly just grown tired of the mood by this point, and I didn't find the female vocalist all that compelling. Overall: I can tell that they're aspiring to do something really significant here, but nevertheless it doesn't impact me much at all. The album really cares, but I don't.

ok pretty average and slightly boring

Álbum bem produzido e com músicas interessantes. Experiência ok. QoA Cloudscape.

tuff ig

I feel like there's some real art here but I'm kind of struggling to access it. I think I have a little bit of a block for the couple of hugely popular songs here that I've heard hundreds of times. Then even for some of the others - there seems like there's some beauty but if you're not careful they pass you by a little bit. It may be that they sound uninteresting to a part of my brain just because they helped to popularise that specific soft indie sound that was very popular for a short while and they remind me of some pretty average popular music from the time? I think there are the cores of some cool songs though

This was fine. I enjoyed listening to it but I don’t see why it got all the accolades it did. I’ll forget about this album by tomorrow.

The band is not bad, but there is absolutely nothing special about them. It’s music you would hear if you turned on any rock radio station at any time.

Upbeat, catchy indie rock that doesn’t do all that much for me, but I can see why folks dig it. On a personal note, I don’t trust bands like this, those that have, like, 20 members. It makes me think there is a lack of talent so they overwhelm us with quantity over quality.

Lovely composition, the album feels bigger than the sum of its parts. Lots of small unique elements, never overwhelming or overdone, but they give us plenty to discover. This a great casual listen, easy on the senses without being boring.

I liked it nothing too crazy but there’s some great riffs of consciences and it came up during a good time while I was on my walk home from the gym sitting in a park I don’t know how much I remember from this album, but I think I will definitely revisit it. Give it another go, but three out of five seems like where it should be rated.

leuke energie soms beetje vaag

Its ok. Would be a good band to see live.

If my girlfriend asks, I gave this a five. She asked me to imagine it was still the Obama era while I listened and that honestly did help. But besides “Wake Up” there weren’t enough moments on this album to excite me beyond the nostalgia for when twee was cool.

OK I guess. Kind of underwhelming.

I love one Arcade Fire song and it’s the only song I know/recognize. It’s not from this album, so I’m excited to listen to more of their music. Holy shit, the accordion. If there’s one thing I love, it’s a friggin’ accordion. Stunning. Neighborhood #2, right into my likes. Such an intense, chaotic song Neighborhood #4 (7 kettle). WOAH, the horror soundtrack opening. The unnerving strings juxtaposed the tranquil singing. Crazy. Overall, a good album. Would I listen to all the songs? Nooo. But the ones that hit, HIT HARD.

I like this album.

While I generally can’t stand the “stomp clap” genre of music I have to give Arcade Fire credit for maybe doing it best. They may have given rise to bands like Mumford or the lumineers, but at least they did it with some originality.

Arcade Fire is some solid indie rock, I'm never disappointed when it comes on, but I never find myself really loving it either, pretty middle of the road

It was fine, inoffensive, and very much an album of 2004.

I definitely preferred this one to "Neon Bible" even though it was a long time ago, I remember not liking it at all, this however wasn't too bad. It's nicely-done densely layered indie rock. The vibes on the first track are amazing, so magical. The violins do a good job of giving drama that some of the songs require. Not too bad of an album. Highlight Song/s: "Neighborhood #1" and "Haiti"

I don’t like arcade fire

Alright sound, couple of good tracks with nice texture, overall ok. Pixies plus melatonin and violin.

First time hearing. Thought it had a "jolly" sound that I enjoyed. The second half of the album is soo much better than the first half though - so a bit unbalanced in quality for me.

Nice in between alt rock with some good tunes and an original feel. I don't know that I would seek them out or build a play list around them, but listenable.

first song sound is good but his voice pisses me off love transition in song 3

sensible hymns with a soft touch and a hint of goofyness

Thought it was fine. Has a melody that I like, but can't make out any words. Seems like decent music to put on in the background.

Washed over me a bit, Arcade fire have got some great tracks though...

Maybe I've been exposed to too much Arcade Fire. Maybe I just wasn't in headspace to appreciate them. Regardless, my impression of this album was that it was fine. It's clearly musically adept, and some of the songs were enjoyable, but it didn't bowl me over by any means.

Eh, some tracks i really liked, others I really didn't

Hyggelig gjenhør, men Arcade Fire er mye hit and miss for min del.

Grei indie, det her. Blir litt glutenfritt til tider. Sterk treer.

Probably their best album. There are a couple of good songs, but overall I can’t quite understand the appeal.

This is a nice sounding album. It definitely has that indie sound to it, which a lot of people will like. I'm not too convinced by this album, I don't dislike it. But I think it lacks variation, for my taste at least. This is definitely right up some people's alley, and I will say there are good highlights on the album. But this kind of indie rock isn't really what I'd find myself listening to more often. I like the instrumentation for the most part, I think it can occasionally feel a bit empty at points but the bass and guitar are generally speaking quite good. I definitely have people in my life who would love this, just isn't really my thing tbh. Fav track: Wake Up

Was hoping with such a lively band name for something more exciting! Didnt like the voice and the tracks had a similar sound ….so got bored. But not too awful!

Fav-crown of love

i like this

Muy indie para mi

perfectly nice album, just less my thing (very millennial hopecore)

Pues sí me gusta pero muy meh. Ni se que más opinar. Muy genérico todo

Estuvo entretenida no me disgustó, lo volvería a escuchar,

A let down

1. I thought it was gonna be heavier. I really like the vocalist straight off the bat. Reminds me of millennial hopecore but in a good way 2. i dont like the production in this one. 3. They are blending together. However, it's reminding me of big thief.

mmm not my style

Thursday 16 April 2026 Pretty good and I liked, don’t know how often I’d listen though I’m yearning

Gen X got grunge but we got this. This album's influence on the decade following was huge. Just like grunge, the scene got flooded with swathes of corporate plants trying to cash in on the genre hype. I'm in my 30s. I was listening to this album a lot in high school. I was one of the few people I knew of at my tiny, rural high school that listened to anything other than Toby Keith or Eminem. Back then, this album sounded fresh, almost magical. Today, it feels like a bunch of ideas done better by bands that influenced and were influenced by it. The 2000s were an awkward stepping stone in a lot of art mediums, I think I'm just not a big fan of a lot of bush era popular art. That said, it does deserve to be talked about, but I don't know how often I'll return to this album.

This album felt more like storytelling through songs than a traditional album. It wasn't what I was expecting (I was expecting Radio Single Arcade Fire), but I thought it was pretty good. Only giving 3 stars because I probably won't listen again, not because it's anything against the album.

The earnestness is both annoying and exhilarating. What else could it be than "Canadian indie rock"? But it makes me feel young again.

“ My parents forgot what they were doing“ - Me hace acordar a mi amiga Lu

very cool love the vibes

consistent... not my thing tbh

I remember liking this more when it came out.

Nothing really stood out

Besserer Rock.

Nice listen, but nothing that stood out to get it any higher

Kan kuuloinen vokalisti. Menevää meininkiä

Arcade Fire is another one of those bands that people whose tastes normally align with mine went NUTS over and I just didn't get it. Like most of those bands, I didn't hate or even dislike it, but it just didn't do anything for me. And my Arcade Fire-loving friends just could not believe that I didn't love this band the way they did. Oh well... This is the one Arcade Fire I own and after several listens I liked it OK but then put it down and basically didn't touch it again. The opening track DID grow on me and I would say that I really like that one. But the rest? Eh. Maybe I just need to see them live...

A few good/great songs on here for sure, but I got a bit bored in parts. V atmospheric tho

Indie rock, chamber pop, art rock, baroque pop, symphonic rock.

bien menos laa canciones que eran neighborhood

Used to be a favourite, but it just doesn’t grip me in the same way anymore. A handful of excellent songs but gets a bit samey in-between.

Besides the lyrics, is it just me or the albums lil bit kinda like hopecore or smth? The one which play on the end of survival story

Some haunting and atmospheric works on here. But I don't think this is the best Arcade Fire album and it's hella whiny. I left an Arcade Fire show early because I came for the opener and people around me seemed more into it than I could be.

Eh, not for me but not awful. I liked Haiti okay enough and Neighborhood 2 wasn't awful but it's just overall didn't do much for me. I probably would've liked it more with a different vocalist. 3, but closer to 2.5

Interesting for sure. I didn't hate it : )

didnt listen

Wake up is clearly the standout but everything else is fine. Not my favorite album of the year winner

It's not my genere but I find it very emotional and rich of colors.

It’s got the song!!!!!! What else is abouts this?

Better than expected.

Solid...3 stars

TS ASS. ok its alr

"I want to listen to neutral milk hotel" "we have neutral milk hotel at home" albums that make you listen to in the aeroplane over the sea again. Itwas good! I liked the Neighborhood series and Haiti.

Like Neon Bible The whole thing feels overwrought But sincere, at least

There are a few great songs on here during the second half, but the first side does pretty much nothing for me and I can’t shake the feeling of this whole thing just being a bit pretentious. I’ve given this thing multiple tries over the years and it’s either just not for me or overrated.

big hearted anthemic earnestness. its saccharine for me, but im not so young any more. and despite being a millenial, this album never meant much to me. and despite FUNERAL being cloying and a bit precious for this 40 year old, its important to remind myself that this band is a band that created a new sound at the right timing... arcade fire was highly influential. they are the indie version of what pearl jam was to grunge - everyone imitated and pummelled their sonic approach into the ground to the point where its so so grating to listen to. it can hard to remember how it was once original. the difference is - pearl jam is still awesome, and I think this is just fine. low 3

like average

Not bad. I've never really got Arcade Fire but I don't hate them

Nee... Is het een slecht album? Nee... Is het een goed album? Bwaah...

I don’t know, it’s creative and has nice instrumentals and production quality but the whiny vocals are so off putting

sounds like U2 fucked modest mouse

I wish I could give a 2.5 star rating, it's just ok, little overrated to my ear but there is flashes of brilliance

Feels quite dated, may have been refreshing and new in the 00s but feels old and stale now.

not that interesting to me

i was hyped to listen to this cause ive heard great things about arcade fire but honestly. did not live up to it. maybe ill try listening again but it just sounded like background music - easily ignored.

Interesting indie album, very melodic, but the voice and melodies don't always hit for me. Some great songs and great concept behind the album. 1. Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) 2. Rebellion (Lies) 3. Neighborhoood #2 (Laika)

5/10, it was okay and fit the vibe of the day, but I didn't find the singer to be especially talented. I can definitely hear the influence this album had on alt-rock and surfer rock from the late 2010s, early 2020s, which I thought was quite cool, but I would not seek out this album to listen to by choice.

Remarkable first album and easy to listen to. Songs are cool and it's never boring. From beginning to end it's an enjoyable listen.

Has some great hits on it. Lovely record. If it were a double record with neon bible it’d be a 5. Standalone 3/4

Different for sure. Calm and cool, but not really my thing.

This is Arcade Fire in their prime, with a very characteristic sound and iconic songs. That being said, not really my cup of tea, although I vibe with some of the songs (e.g. Rebellion (lies) and the classic Wake Up), while recognizing their artistry.

Music is quite good, well.organised, singing is definitely not for me

I like Wake Up, but the rest of the album fell a bit flat for me. Shouty and loud, but not in the way I tend to enjoy.

Pretty confused on the hype for this one. Best album of the 2000s? Come on, it's good but come on.

Second half of this album is better than the first. Enjoy the "Wake up" song from the Tommy Lee Royce nice gay play, and the final song from the blizzard first half. Can't always tell what he's saying and it's not the music I love, but good array of instruments and styles to keep me engaged.

"Вот и все! Неплохая получилась история: интересная, весёлая, порой немного грустная, а главное поучительная". любимые треки: • neighborhood #1 • neighborhood #3 альбом подойдёт тем, у кого острое желание почувствовать себя главным персонажем любовного фильма, либо его синеволосой пикси девочкой.

Very queen inspired. A little boring. Good nap music.

Really good album!

Man, I listened the hell out of this thing back in the day. For some reason it didn't land as hard this time. And the recent Neon Bible hot harder than ever. Still good though.

overall i found the combination of song length and slowness of the tracks to not be my cup of tea but there was still several songs i enjoyed. would make for good background vibes. •standouts: une année sans lumiere, neighborhood #4 (kettles), crown of love, wake up •favorite: crown of love

1: Wake Up 2: Neighborhood #3 3: Crown of Love

A great album, but prefer the Suburbs

“Neighborhood #3” stood out and I enjoyed it, but the album as a whole feels somewhat uneven. “Wake Up” in particular was everywhere at the time, which makes it feel especially familiar. Each track has its own character, and there isn’t a single sound that immediately defines Arcade Fire. It feels like a classic example of early-2000s alt-rock: memorable moments, but hard to pin down as a cohesive identity.

An important debut for David Bowie's favourite band in the 2000s. Some useful pounding anthems in the alternative rock mould like 'Wake up'. Also nice to have a track with four parts in an album so early in a career - quite risky some would say. Their appearance at Fashion rocks with their legendary admirer was career defining for them at the time. This album gets better and some better work was to come from this Canadian bunch.

Didn‘t connect with this one much. interesting to hear however, how their sound developped.

That's all the arcade fire on the list done. In reverse order no less. A consistent high as on this album are the instrumentals and arrangements. This type of indie is at its best when attempting to pull on your heartstrings, ebbing and flowing within a single song. The big movements of the album get lost. My rating is not as high as it could be due to a thing that improved as the band matured: the vocals. On this album they almost sound yelled, causing the tone to drift uncannily off key. On some songs it even sounds like he's standing in the back of the room and that doesn't help. The radio hits from this band notably have the least of those issues.

Reminds me of Ants From Up There (this must be an early inspiration). Vocalist always sounds like they're on the verge of a mental collapse- half-wailing? Reminds me of Isaac Wood (a lot). Good composition throughout the whole album- very orchestral. Interesting, provoking lyrics! I like the one review that called it the whitest album they ever heard. Songs do blur together, though, and I can't differentiate between them all that well. Great cover art though.

I just wish I could like it 100%, but it felt too millennial. Mainly the “yeah!” Some good parts for sure

quite lovely

I liked it. Strings at the end of the album were awesome. 2010 indie vibes. Wasn't my thing at the time so was glad to come back to this one.

Transition from Haiti into Rebellion (Lies) is one of the best album transitions ever.

Kind of meh

A lot of layers in this music. Takes a couple listens to unlock some of those layers. The compositions are beautiful. The performances leave something to be desired in my opinion, overall a good first outing for this group.

Damn another one of these? There are good moments here but it doesn’t live up to the other two on the list. Just a lot of yea they’re a good band but eh.

In the years since, I find this to be pretty diminished (even though I was only passingly familiar with it at the time). Stomp Clap Hey for the art crowd, skewed by sex allegations, and general monotony of the songs here. There are still a couple that make the grade.
