Reviews (page 7 of 8)
This was not an album I needed to hear before I died. There were elements I liked, but they were repeated ad nauseam. Every single song went on several minutes too long and they used the same beat in every song. It literally just reminds me of the music that the goth kids in Letterkenny dance to.
AN HOUR AND 53 MINUTES?!?????!??????? Starting an album with a very unnecessary 20 minute track should be met with a sentence to the guillotine. To sum it up, this is basically just “electronic” babble.
Oh hell no. There are house and big beat acts that I like, I'm not against edm/dance music. BUT, this is so dull, so boringly repetitive and WAY too long. Seriously, too long, and that's from someone who isn't afraid of a 20 minute jam. Hard no from me.
Definitely not my jam, I am more of a fan of Massive Attack / Tricky and sometimes Lords of Acid electronic music and beats. This was just kinda boring.
I’m sorry, Goldie, I don’t even technically think you’re the worst British electronica album I’ve gotten - but, I just can’t TAKE any more! It’s the most overrepresented genre on this list, it’s truly insane. They’re all well over an hour long (this one is TWO HOURS), mostly forgettable, and have had minimal to no influence on music that came afterwards. This genre was hot for a minute, a flash in the pan, and then the mainstream moved on. Like, I’m sure the guy who made this list had a great time tripping to this music at raves in the late 90s, but that is no excuse for the absolute PROLIFERATION of these albums on this list. Have some fucking objectivity, dude.
Langweilig
Hated. Annoying. I shut off before completed.
I tried. I just don't like tecno. The first song was 22 minutes of the same thing over and over and over and over... I high school music nurd with a keyboard could make this. The other songs were different titles, but the same thing in a faster or slower tempo.
I actually enjoy drum and bass music and considering this is considered a "groundbreaking release in the history" of the genre I was excited. But I don't know. Maybe these albums aren't meant to be listened to this way. Meaning, as one complete experience rather than different tracks by different artists mixed together by a talented dj. It was a painful one to get through.
Tough listen - it’s very long and each track seems to go on forever. Hard to pick any stand out tracks as they all kind of sound the same in the end!
Two hours?! Why are D&B albums always so flipping long? It's not some operatic concept album, it's a drum machine having a frantic wank
Not for me. Imagine drum and bass made on a Casio keyboard in the 90s
I dont think I like EDM or whatever this is.
This is Melon Collie levels of long, and I don’t have that much time nor the attention span to listen to it. DNF/5.
Meh
No one needs to hear this. Ever. Right at the top of the worst case this list.
No
Oh my gawd, this was terrible. No reason to be on this list. An hour and fifty three minutes of garbage
Ohne Drogenkonsum nicht hörbar!
I just don’t like drum & bass/electronic. I can handle it for a while but then, as the title of track seven helpfully puts it, it gives me ‘A Sense of Rage’. Like I think the sound of the genre at large literally makes me feel anxious. I didn’t mind the tracks with vocals/lyrics as much. But just never gonna be for me. And it feels like it never ends.
Fuck off.
Weird
There's no reason for this to be two hours. I understand it's from the CD era, far predating streaming audio and the variety of options for DJs to post full sets. But it's so long and so repetitious. And to make a point that's surely belabored by now, that this is called Timeless is funny, considering it sounds so very '90s. It's very much a time capsule of breakbeat electronic music of that era, which is neat...but way overstays its welcome.
Started okay and slowly got worse and worse to the point the last few tracks were painful to get through.
Jesus tap dancing Christ. No. Just, no. Dogshit. Never again
Nope. Hate this. Voice and vocalizations annoy the shit outta me, the techno-jazz melding is a dud imo. Moving on from this one, that's almost 2 hours of my life wasted on this garbage.
30 seconds in and I hate it. The vocals against the music are dated. There is absolutely no need for the first song to be 20 minutes long. I’d like to think I’m open-minded about trying new things, but I had to give up listening at the 4th track. I can’t believe this album goes on for nearly 2 hours. I guess it could be tolerable if you plan to do drugs to it.
I swear to god this is trolling, it’s the same drum track looped over whimsical tunes that would not be out of place in a nature doco, this would fit perfectly as hold music for a big corporation. I skipped basically all the tracks and couldn’t finish it
First impression pre listen: I am not listening to a 2 hour long DNB album without doing something else on the side. I'll be completely honest. This seems beyond boring. Gonna listen to this while playing some games. I think that's the only way I'll get through it. Will write down notes along the way. This is not my favourite genre in the first place. Hoping it can at least function as background music, even if I'm quite certain I'm not gonna enjoy it. Hoping to have my mind changed, though my expectations going into this remain low. Also that album cover is hideous. Individual track notes: Timeless Starting of with a 21 minute track, great... The intro is boring and goes on forever. Don't love the vocals, generic and inoffensive. Feels aimless and without purpose, like someone just mashed a bunch of ideas together and called it a day. There are definitely cool patterns here and there, but it never really goes anywhere too interesting and honestly it's mostly just mildly irritating. Drags the ending out way too much. Never ends. Don't feel too strongly against it, but I got to dock it points for its ridiculous length and unstructured feel. Dislike. 2/5 Saint Angel Unpleasant buildup. Repetitive and abrasive sounding, reminds me of construction work. Inaccesibile and harsh sounding. The synths are really annoying. Shifts between boring and unlistenable. Strongly dislike. 1.5/5 State of Mind The piano intro isn't terrible. Sort of brings a different sound to the album. Hate the bass. Generic lyrics. Monotone. Repetitive. Very forgettable track with little going for it. Nothing really to say about it. Dislike. 2/5 This Is a Bad Mario Kart opening. Generic sounding DnB beat. Sounds very dated. Generally just unpleasant. Extremely repetitive and mindnumbing. Sharp and annoying drums. Awful. 1/5 Sea of Tears The intro has a hint of psychedelia. Kinda gets ear piercing after a while. Let's find the most annoying sound ever created by humankind and put a generic DnB beat ontop of it. Great idea! Dolphin noises??? They never stop and are super obnoxious. At one point the spoken word vocals start moaning slightly which is kinda horrible to listen to. The song ends up stressing me out and boring me at the same time. Awful. 1/5 Jah the Seventh Seal Loud synth, much louder than the rest of the mix. Sounds horrible. AWFUL panning effect. Genuinely unlistenable. Awful. 1/5 A Sense of Rage Why is every song on here so long? So far none of them have justified that length. Honestly not unlistenable. Just kinda bland, which is high praise when it comes to this album. Dislike. 2/5. Still Life A bit tedious. Never ends. A repetitive slog that is genuinely difficult to sit through. Mindnumbingly boring. I can't think of anything else to say. Points docked for the excessive length. Awful. 1/5 Angel The vocal sample is okay I guess. Didn't even notice it ended. Guess I completely checked out oops. Dislike 2/5 Adrift Okay a bit of a different vibe going on, it's about time. Get on with it. What the fuck even is this... An absolute fever dream. Distincly unpleasant. Awful 1/5 Kemistry How has he been able to consistently pull off the most annoying combinations of sounds possible on multiple tracks on this album is beyond my understand. Beside the annoying part in the beginning this song just kinda ended up fading into the background for me. Dislike. 2/5 You & Me One of the less horrible tracks on here, I like the keys, and I think the vocals are very fitting this cloudy ethereal style. Still way too long. The DnB parts remain generic, but at least it's listenable. Nvm the whistling is horrible. Dislike. 2/5 Final review: I have nothing positive or constructive to say about this experience, so I'd rather just leave you with a warning: If it doesn't click for you somewhere during the first song it will never click. Don't waste your time listening to all of it. Almost lost my mind out of pure stubbornness. It is not worth it. 1/5
Just another electronic mixture of soundeffects and loops.
Single beat. Ok background noise almost puts you to sleep though. British Inner city life was fine
Inte nog med att det var skitdåligt så var skivan skitlång.
q coño es esto dos horas de ruiditos
Possibly one of the least exciting albums that I have gotten on here - yes, it may have been cool in 1995 when it came out because people would take drugs and this would play in the background and they would just chill there, but I don't know.. it's just not really that great. Pretty much all of the songs are basically the same thing and there is nothing really going on. The most upsetting thing was when I found out that I was playing the first song after about 15 minutes and thought that I had listened to the whole album, but as the whole thing is almost 2 hours, I realised that I was still on the first song and I already wanted to stop listening to the album. It's a good thing I was doing other stuff, so this was playing in the background, so that I was kept distracted.
no Best Song: N/A Rating: 1/10 (DNF) Stars: 1/5
So my thing genre-wise, but just couldn't connect with this one - gave up fairly quick.
I started this, and asked myself "Please don't tell me I have to listen to one hour and fifty three minutes of this rubbish." Well, one hour and fifty three minutes later, I'm asking myself "What in the name of the FSM possessed me to listen to one hour and fifty three minutes of this rubbish?" I'm sorry I committed to listening to every album here all the way through.
Fuck you this did not need to be two hours.
Is this an everybody gets a trophy kind of project? Seriously, how is this album on this list. It seems that there was an effort to include every genre, even if that genre generally sucks. This album objectively sucks.
Not for me
this is some truly evil shit, the only two possible explanations for this album's existence or presence on this list is that it's either a test from god or a punishment of the devil's. either way it's settled thousands of years of spirited theological debate
If you’ve ever wondered what two hours of a washing machine having a nervous breakdown sounds like, look no further.
come on man
This was the toughest listen so far for sure. So so long and a 21 minute long song to start like come on. Even if it was a good beat all the way through it would have been more bearable. But it has minute long sections in songs with no beat and what sounds like a bloody Nokia ringtone. Painful. Some songs could be good to run to or something though I guess. Specific rating- 0.4 Fav song- this is a bad Least fav- adrift
It's called timeless because it feels like it will never end. Favourite song: State of Mind Least: Saint Angel
Seems to be quite a bit of electronica on this list. I don't get the appeal, much of this just seemed like noise. It seemed to keep dragging on and it was a struggle to get as far as I did.
Knew going in the runtime would be long, but I ended up stopping at what felt like an hour. I paused it in the middle of Sea Of Tears, saw how many songs were left, and decided I had enough of this repetitive shit. Not my cup of tea. 1 star.
One of the most unremarkable things I've ever heard. Two hours of my life I'll never get back
Not for me either
not a fan at all
Inte oljud men för jävla långt
It finally happened I committed to myself when I started this project that I would listen to every album in its entirety, no matter how much I hated it. This album is making me break my promise. I will not listen to 2 hours of a drum machine. I made it halfway through the 6th track and I just fucking cant go on anymore. This is fucking awful
Bro wanted to see how many sounds his synthesizer could make
One of the worst on the list
Uuh... One of rare albums that I couldn't listen through.
Felt like pure background music — and far too long.
Did not finish, I couldn’t sit through it. Maybe in a trance I might be able to finish it but not interesting
Teils etwas zu unruhig für mich.
It did not age well
Really leaned into the rapid electronic drum beats. So repetitive though. Not for me at all. State of mind was pretty good. Overall, really not my taste at all. The songs were so long too. If you've heard one song on this album, you've basically heard the whole album.
Fuck no
No song gets to be 21 minutes without having earned it. Which means there can be only one 21 minute song and that's The Odyssey by Symphony X, obviously. "This is a bad", indeed. Understatement much.
Complete garbage!
Simply not my thing. Tried to engage with the ethereal nature but just heard disparate noises. B Hated listening to this. 1/5
I'm sorry, i don't get it. Nothing that I enjoy about music is on this album that I can latch onto. It's going to have to be a 1.
I haven’t spent an hour and fifty-three minutes in close proximity to so much shit since I came down with dysentery in the Atlas Mountains.
Oh yeah, Goldie. I saw them open for Jane's Addiction in 1997 and was bored out of my mind after about 5 minutes. And here's an album that's almost 2 hours long. Greeeeaaaat. I tried. I did. I thought I was on the second song, checked in on it, and discovered I was only halfway through the first one, which still had about 10 minutes to go. Couldn't make myself go any further. This should be called Endless, because that's how it feels.
Laser tag
Did not like. Long and mostly electronic boredom.
This album definitely felt timeless. Didn’t see an end in sight. Although I do like Drum and Bass, I can only take it in small doses. I think this would probably be considered a “Musicians album” rather than an album that everyone needs to listen to. I think this much drum and bass only appeals to a small niche of the music community and to people who pretend to like it. I do appreciate the production of the drums, but that’s about it. I think I picked up some parts of the album that have been sampled in more recent tracks. I don’t think that this album should be considered an album that everyone needs to listen to. You need to be on an uppers for this album.
The pros: Guinea pig noises on kemistry around 2:30, proto-wubs on the last song Cons: 2 hours long, sounds like AI music, and the singing is bad
So there's a tendency in electronic music to praise early three hour long albums that invented the genre as genius instead of what they are, which is jingling keys for people doing meth. Goddamn this album is interminable, listening to it is like getting pranked by a friend who sets a song you're listening to on loop without telling you. No wonder the guy from Pendulum thought this guy was a fuck. Got through like half of half of the songs, fuckin hell 1 out of 5 this bores me to hell and back.
Absolutely fucking not. I hated this. FUCK. THIS. ALBUM. 1/5
Sounds like what bongwater smells like.
Timeless had quite the varied vibe; it could be trippy or ambient. It wasn't like most electronic music of the time because of its variance and ambiance. *But*. *However*. *Regardless*. This album was incredibly repetitive. Why were the songs so long? Why were the lyrics inconsequential? Why did they include lyrics at all? Why was this album so long when the songs kept repeating the same 3 beats over and over?! This album could have gotten a generous 3 if it had been shortened dramatically, but it sure wasn't. I guess it was groundbreaking for the electronic scene, but I find I don't care.
This album was an absolute slog. It was very ambient and very repetitive and not at all engaging. And DEFINITELY way too long. It quickly drifted into background noise for me. I just got no pleasure from this album, unfortunately. It's been a while since I've dished out a 1, but this album definitely earned it.
1.12
Stop giving me your toughest battles
Listening to this feels like your dog taking a shit in your mouth while you're sleeping.
Painful. Laborious.
This project has only revealed to me that drum and bass my be my least favorite genre. It's just way too repetitive for way too long. And I've gotten so many of them and they are all exactly the same
Preferred him in EastEnders Duff Duff......
Pointless, repetitive orchestra synth swooshes making up Drum and Bass.
I have detested drum-and-bass since it emerged. This album did nothing to change my mind. But then, even Bowie couldn’t.
не
Didn't listen all the way through because it made me ill. 1/5. I'm not into techno.
Jesus Christ this may be the most shit record I've ever heard. 2 hours of generic, relative 808s while a woman sings nothing words off key. Fuck everything about this Euro trash shit pile of a record.
Couldn’t listen if I weren’t occupied with something else.
Wish I could vote zero stars.
Quite awful. I don’t get this at all.
Filth
Why is this on the fucking list To top it off I got mixed up and thought it was Blondie I was gonna hear.
Awful
C'est comme si on avait loop une transition pre-drop dans une chanson moyenne de Prodigy, pendant 2h, et sans drop. Terrible.
Pretty mind numbingly bad. I can’t wait for the day that I finally get an album that’s not electronic. Definitely not an album to choose when you just want to sit down and enjoy some music. Liked the beginning groovy sounds of A Sense of Rage but then of course it immediately got ruined by the ear searing repetitive nature of the album. At first liked State of Mind but then I saw that it was 7 min long, just unnecessary, like the majority of the album. Maybe I could handle this album if it was half the time and no songs were longer than 3 minutes.
yeah, i'm not listening to all that, i got about 8 minutes into the first song and I was just done with it. this isnt music, this is drivel made by a dude sitting infront of a computer all day. 1/5 never ever listening again
Not listening to two whole hours of this. Did not finish.
2/10 Same thing over and over again Favourite Song=None Least Favourite Song=Nome
This is the sort of music that plays loud in crime series on TV, in shabby warehouses where the drug gangs are hanging out between cooking sessions. Because the series producers want to create the absolute most nerve wracking atmosphere so that we are all super happy when the first shots fall, the electricity drops out and all you hear is just shouting and guns. Which is an improvement over this music (thanks, cops). This music may be functional in crime series but I don't need it in my living room or in my too short life. There is something about it, mostly the breakbeat, that instantly makes me want to throw something through the window (and I am normally a very peaceful guy). The rest of the music is just very dull and unimaginative, with some cheap "orchestration". A hard 1 for me and definitely on my "1001 Albums you must avoid until you die (but may hear after if you believe in Hell)" list. Haven't been able to finish this, can't imagine listening to this without some form of sedation.
Have you ever danced with the devil in the rave’s black light?
Album 700! Which means there is just over a year of this left, I think. Unfortunately it was dull as bricks and almost two hours long. Knew within 5 min of the 20 min opening track that this was going to be a 1. I don't think there's been a single dnb album on this list that I've found enjoyable in the slightest.
Truly awful.
Pffft. Starting with a 20 minute extended play of Inner City Life is certainly a statement. Sadly, it gets worse as you progress through the album. By the end you’ll need a lie down in a darkened room. Awful.
Let's dig into some possible explanations for the title of this album: Possible storyline: The shitness of this album breaks the space-time continuum, breaking the laws of physics and time as we know it. All that remains is this album echoing throughout the ruins of the universe. Timeless. Alternate suggestion: naming it Endless instead of Timeless, cause it's so long and terrible it seems like it never ends. I couldn't finish it.
No thanks.
Just can’t do it when the first song is 20 minutes long.
Honestly couldn’t even get through this.
Time to bump off this list and throw this one away…
More like time’s up. Gimme 30-45 minutes of this, then maybe. But 2 hours? Nope.
This sucks!
Whatever I prob would have rounded up if it wasn’t nearly two hours long. Self-indulgent much? 1.5/5
2 hours of electronica?!? I'm exhausted already. This is incredibly boring. A 21 minute song to kick things off is not an auspicious start. These dance albums have to be the least listened to albums, start to finish, ever. No one just puts on a Goldie record and lets it play and listens to the music. This is background music at an overpriced salon or in a restaurant that has uncomfortable chairs and $16 drinks. The first song is hard to endure and there is another hour and a half of music to go. This music must only be good on E. This is "boots and pants" music. This is more a trail of endurance than an evaluation of an album. This album is terrible, one of the worst so far. The ambient waves and one of the most annoying electronic seagull noises imaginable in Sea of Tears makes this a rival for one of the worst songs I've listened to so far. This is all so repetitive, every song, every minute, just boring beats. 7 minutes at the end are remixes from the US release, not the initial release so that is great news. Every song is exactly as bad as every other one in it's own special way. The only thing that makes one better than another is the length (shorter is better). Still 27 minutes left and I cannot wait for this to be over. I will continue to listen but the Kenny G sax in Adrift is the end of my observations. This isn't dance music, it's not jazz, it's just awful. This is like music from a dream sequence in a porno movie. I'm not sure if I like the fake jazz songs less than the dance songs. In any case, they are both awful.
You know that scene in the matrix 2? Where they have the rave orgy? Or in Blade where they gave the rave with blood spraying in them? This record reminded me of that. Except instead of a rave orgy being sprayed with blood, your subjected to this God awful record. Nothing about this record is good. Absolutely nothing. If you think otherwise, you don't have good taste in music. You like background noise. Background noise that is repetitive and soulless. Even when the songs with vocals come in... They are absolutely trash! Sweaty matrix orgy trash.
Track 4 says it all. "This is a Bad."
More boring techno. Snore.
Too much of the same thing. It gets boring very quickly. And oh my God! why does the album have to be so long?
Meh.
Timeless?! More like Timefull! It's so long! Way too long for songs that don't really go anywhere and are repetitive. Still prefer this over Daft Punk though
Idk what context I’m missing to understand this one. The drum/rhythm seemed the exact same on every single track. It sounds like there are only two speeds these tracks alternate between and it gets tiring quick. The length of this album is an extra fuck you. Rating: 1.2
1 stars are back
Couldn't get past the first 20 min track. Listened to bits and pieces of the other tracks, and Goldie seems very talented, but just not my jam...Too repetitive and aimless sounding.
Ah yes, another electronic album that reinvented the genre from the 90's. You may not believe this but Goldie is British. Yes, the book with the hard British lean includes an artist from Britain that was groundbreaking. What's most groundbreaking is this album starts off with a 21 minute song. Most artists want to capture your attention immediately, but Goldie prefers to lure his audience to sleep as that may be the only way to get a person to listen to the whole thing. Plus, if the listener is asleep then perhaps another Goldie album will come on and receive more plays as well. The drum and bass genre is clearly not for me. Either that or songs with excessive run-time and repeated beats over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over doesn't speak to me if I am not on drugs that would help blunt the true experience.
Long and boring
Nope.
This is a breakthrough album...it almost broke through to a negative rating.
Listened to all 20 minutes of the first track. I am not listening to another 80 minutes of this shit
What a waste of everyone's time. This is utter shit. Drum and bass is just repetitive noise. Why do people like this? If you want to get a headache, listen to this, or you could run straight into a wall. The outcome will be the same, but at least you'll save yourself over an hour and a half. If I wanted to describe the album positively, I would say track 4 sums it up.
I felt like I was held hostage by this long ass album. 1.
I have yet to find a good 20 minute song. And that's because they don't exist.
why?
27/08 Ik had gehoopt op een Oasis album voor vandaag, maar in plaats daarvan krijg ik dit miskraam. 1.4
i really do try to go into every album with an open mind but man, i am so sorry, this was like mind-numbingly boring to me. overly long electronic tracks that don't really go anywhere. it's just tedious. it's like i'm trapped in the menus of a playstation 1 racing game. help me! get me out!
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. That's bad. If the first song had been 10 minutes or a little longer it would have been perfect, but you have to be sophisticated and make it 20 minutes long.
Soundscapy things leave me cold. I'm trying, but hard to get past the sweeping dramatics. Then it gets all EDMy. Not for me.
Frankly embarrassing that someone could turn the same drum beat and occasional bassey sound effect into 2 hours worth of "music". Unoriginal, boring, and not worth anyone's time. The only "timeless" aspect of this album is that there will always be people who eat up anything record companies try to pass off
The album is called \"Timeless\", but at nearly 2 hours long, this album has overstayed it's welcome. Sure music changes and evolves all the time, but ironically, this album sounds very dated and I'm convinced the author put this album on the list because they owed someone a favor. Most of the songs are over 6 minutes of dragged out, bloated 90s drum and bass. 1/5
1.0 - My god....torture For me there is so much to dislike with this album. The songs are just so boring and don't go anywhere. Scene music, riding on the coat tails of nostalgia. There are worse albums I've come across on this list so far, but this really just annoyed me
Timeless? More like TimeMORE! On account of how long the opening track is! [or] Timeless? More like 1995! Haha we like to laugh, but seriously, good god. I think it’s really important to hold the idea that most all kinds of art have an artfulness to them even if I don’t understand it. On the other hand, when I was a boy I had a PS1 demo disk that included a demo for a game called MTV Music Generator. It was basically a crude looping station, with built in samples. This album sounds indistinguishable from something a 12 year old me would have made on there, and again… I only had the demo, with a limited set of samples. And it was the PS1! That game probably came out less than 3 years after this album did. Come on! A guy does not need to hear this before he dies.
WTF was that? A beautiful voice devolving into a mess of electronic noise. What a waste.
I don't do drugs.
Skip
No es mi género
not my thing at all. too long and soulless. uninterested
I can't listen to this.
Having just had a drum and bass album with Roni Size a couple of weeks ago, this enraged me that it was on the list. I didn't enjoy that one, and this one, being far less interesting, just made me super super annoyed that I was expected to endure two hours of it. Where's Linda Ronstadt in this project for fuck's sake?
i actually dont think i needed to listen to this before i die. why the fuck is the first song 21 minutes long 1/5
I dunno about this one. Just seems like it's overly long for the sake of it. I can see this as backing music in a club or movie or something. On it's own I can pass. Will I listen to again: 0%
Overstayed its welcome before the end of the first 20 minute track
Wow, noise!
Très (trop) répétitif Beaucoup trop long
I tried, but I couldn't even get through half of it. The vocals are terrible (luckily they aren't always present), and the absolute excessive runtime for a drum and bass album is tough to swallow. It's not that the individual songs are bad, it just that the album as presented doesn't need to exist.
I'm now less some time I can't ever get back after listening to this garbage.
I cant tell these types of albums apart. Drum and bass and UK Electronica both sound lazy and repetitive to me but I recognize I just dont have the ear for it. This one in particular just drags. More than once I would tune out and tune back in and wonder if it was the same song or something new.
I’m really starting to think I don’t have a way into Drum and Bass. I’ve tried and tried but I just can’t stand it. If you dig it then I envy you because this list is FULL of albums that sound exactly like this to me. Bleh Also 2 hours?!? Come on man I gave up about 50 minutes in a listened to the album “Supervision” by La Roux instead. Way better use of my time and yours
Smash bros loading menu ass music
way too long
Repetitive beats. Singer has a nice voice, but lord those "beats."
Sucks
Sair álbum eletrônica nesse negócio pelo visto é minha sina
Damn, not enjoyable at all to listen to
The last album was dumb. This album was dumber. Jim Carey would be proud.
1.5 This album was boring and way too long, but got a .5 bump cause it didn’t physically hurt my ears
I don't really know how to listen to this music. It is cinematic at times, club/house music at times, theatrical at times... listenable but doesn't fit into my life in any way. I couldn't get past the fourth track; it makes my brain feel like I have shaken baby syndrome.
No. Plomo.
Ross Geller accompanied by an 8th grade drummer from the local marching band. Dreck.
This is utterly boring to me. I can't stand it even as background noise. Hard pass.
When I approached this album, I thought there might be a place for it given that it was revolutionary in it genre at the time. But screw that. I just tortured myself with nearly 2 hours of the exact same drum beat an empty nonsense. This was a terrible experience, would not recommend. .
I can't stand most electronic music. This is no exception.
If this was half the length I wouldn't have minded. But at close to two hours I need more than these beats. I saw one review that said this was the type of music Jez and Super Hans were making on Peep Show which cracked me up. Peep Show has some funny moments.
Hot ass. Maybe this is cheating but I skipped half the songs like halfway through.my mom asked for the news again. Ca->pa rating #7
Nothing here. Better EDM out for sure.
Y’know, once in a while an album comes along that just changes the way you look at life, changes your mentality, your outlook and your soul. This is not one of them. To think that people listen to this for pleasure quite frankly bamboozles me to the point of not knowing my own name any more. I’d rather have sex with two cheese graters tied together, dip my dick in a packet of McCoys Salt ‘n’ Vinegar, jump in a bath of TCP and then shave my own eyeballs rather than have to listen to this again. *disclaimer - the above may not all be true. I wouldn’t shave my eyeballs.
Well, at least I learned something: genre to avoid: Drum & Base with "ethereal" singing. 0/5 if it would be possible
At 40-45 minutes this album could have been merely unappealing, two stars. Instead, it is an excruciating, repetitive 113 minutes. The name is ironic given how intensely aware it made me of the length of an hour. One star.
My inner 18 year old 1998 trance/house fanatic legally prevents me from enjoying Drum and Base. Paul Oakenfold FTW.
Not so much.
I’m on vacation. I’m still trying to listen to my albums. But this was not my cup of tea at all. And, oof, so long. I stopped listening after the third song.
I looked at his bio on Spotify because I wanted to know what type of music this was. It seems to be EDM-y in some spots and then a bit jazzy (?) in others especially with some of the vocals. It appeared he made some sort of breakout and that makes sense because this is like nothing I’ve ever heard before.
First one I've tapped out of. Life is short. Didn't even have the decency to fade into the background.
All sounded the same And that was junk
Good god for something called Timeless it sure took up a lot of my time. This isn’t music, it’s background noise, and listening to two hours of it was not doing any justice. Genuinely such a long drawn out boring album.
I like drum and bass breaks. For about 8 measures. Not 21 minutes. In the first track. Slightly exaggerating here, but only slightly. I like a bit of trance music - it has a definite place in terms of either working/studying/concentration on something. Take out the very very distracting and monolithic drum assault and it's nearly indistinguishable from many space station videos I'll put on to relax to. In the background. The harsh and repetitive drum breaks sound interesting for a bit - yeah, 8 measures or so - until they completely reverse gears and are just irritating at best - devoid of dynamics, utter chaos in their glitchy breakdowns. Come on. I'm not going to encroach on any "this isn't music" diatribe because it most certainly is, but it really is confined to a narrow focus and honestly I don't get the hype - even if I *do* occasionally listen to music LIKE this on the fringes. It's more a testament to the dedication of "Goldie" (not their real name you're not fooling anyone *Clifford*....) on assembling all these pieces (although I'm not sure how it was done in 1995). Good on ya. Yay. But it all comes across as excessively self-indulgent without any sense of awareness at all. This genre was gonna be dicey anyways but this particular album is not even close to enjoyable at all and frankly mostly terrible - also not advised for those who drift towards the occasional migraine. 2/10 1 star.
That was so fucking weird
No
Songs way too long and repetitive
Entendo que á xente lle poida gustar, pero mima que coñazo non me gustou nadiña...
Track one alone is just so not for me 1/5
That was the longest two hours of my life
Passed this one. It is very, very not my taste. Just nah... Way too trippy from the start.
i can't do drum and bass.
Only made it 4 minutes in.
Boring, boring and once again boring.
Wow. This was a tough one to listen through. 2 hours of a genre that I do not really like. But: I tried! I sat through it. Don't judge it by its shitty cover I said to myself. But it didn't catch me at all. I found it rather boring and uninspired. Plus, extra annoying, the unnecessary long tracks. It actually did feel like torture after a while. At least parts of it could be played in an elevator, which is not a compliment. Might be important for the genre but it just isn't good in my opinion, sorry.
I can't believe I spent almost 2 hours of my life listening to this.
Buncha cheesy 90s dance music.
Well there's two hours of my life I'll never get back.
On this seminal drum and bass album, Goldie sincerely tries to elevate the genre to new heights. Unfortunately, it's still nearly 2 hours of drum and bass
interesting not my style
No.
Repetitive and boring. I guess this genre isn’t for me.
No me ha gustado
I’m going to have to take this music genre’s fans’ word for it that this album was groundbreaking at the time. It really doesn’t do anything for me. I’ll admit that my ignorance of this genre means I have no context for what is so innovative about this album, but I just found it to be dull and loooooong. There are some really cool drumbeats and I guess that’s part of the point, but this sounds dated to me.
Omg another record of hot smelly garbage. Just a complete waste of my time.
I don't really know about this type of music to give an opinion.
God this was absolutely awful. I always thought I disliked house music but this made me realize I hate it. It wouldn’t be so bad if the songs were a reasonable length but when they are all 6+ minutes and some 10, 12 or 21 minutes it makes me want to rage. Don’t even know why I wasted my time after the second song. I knew what I was getting for the rest of the album and looked and saw the song lengths for the rest. I should have just quit this one. It effectively made me stop doing this Album A Day journey for about 2 weeks because I was dreading continuing this garbage for another hour and a half.
MICHAEL BARLOW :@
Terrible.
First album I couldn’t finish. 2h DnB? Not when it sounds this annoying and generic. This shit was dated back in 97 already.
Sikkert revolutionerende for drum n bass - men simpelthen for langt og for kedeligt
...oh.
Can we please stop with the drum n bass?
This was possibly one of the worst musical experiences I've had the displeasure to endure. So boring and repetitive, almost put me to sleep behind the wheel.
Nearly 2 hours of Muzak with occasional repetitive and annoying sound effects/vocals
Boring.
Why are electronic drum and bass albums so damn long? This one neared two hours, and I was tired of it before the twenty minute mark. But I still held out and listened to the whole thing, which is better than I did on the list's last drum and bass album. Still it left me cold. Drawn out and boring, and didn't age particularly well (unless you love the 90's aesthetic). Background music, that's all it sounds like to me. Not my thing, and I don't think it ever will be.
Puh ist mir ein bisschen zu stressig der Drum and Bass.. hab es nebenbei gehört und dann hat es mich irgendwann gestört. Die Frauenvocals drin fand ich nicht so schlecht
It is not bad, good background music, but I don’t think it should be on the list. After listening to 850+ albums, when I die I couldn’t care less about this album.
Too long. Not interesting enough, not for me. Worst dance record so far. 1/5
Drum and bass not my cuppa tea!
No. .75
I might have tolerated this more if it wasn’t so needlessly long.
What is the purpose of this? It is almost 2 hours long. I made it to about 70 minutes and gave up. It wasn't necessarily horrible music but it was repetitive and completely unnoteworthy. There are definitely worse albums on this list. This album definitely has no business being on the list. I am rounding down.
1. timelezz - 1.5 2. zaint angel - 1 3. ztate of mind - 1 4. thiz iz a bad - 1 5. zea of tearz - 1.5 6. jah the zevent zeal - 1 7. a zenze of rage - 1 8. ztill life - 1 9. angel - 1 10. adrift - 1 11. kemiztry - 1 12. you and me - 1 13. inner city life - 1.5
This is the opposite of timeless. Its sounds dated to exactly its era, and it has not held up. Sounds like the meanderings of a kid who just got Garageband on his mac. Or the soundtrack to shopping in a shitty clothes store at the mall. Over-hyped drums, no song structure. It's Fat Boy Slim but without the hooks and catchy parts.
Inaudible. Autant la techno je peux encore, mais là franchement non.
Defo not up my street 😤
Didn't enjoy it at all
I wasn’t rolling on E while listening to this so I hated it
Au, va
Quick test. Play three or four random sections of each track and you will notice that they sound pretty much the same. For almost two hours.
Not my thing
Nope
This was painful.
Timeless- 3.1/5 Saint Angel- 2.5/5 State of Mind- 3.5/5 This Is a Bad- 2.4/5 Sea of Tears- 1.3/5 Jah the Seventh Seal- 1.4/5 A Sense of Rage [Sensual V.I.P. Mix]- 1.5/5 Still Life- 0.1/5 Angel- 1.5/5 Adrift- 1.6/5 Kemistry- 1/5 You & Me- 1.3/5 Total- 1.8/5
Not my genre. Not my vibe. An absolute struggle to get through. I ended up listening to just parts of the songs in the end because I wanted it to be over, but it just kept going.
I play drums but not a fan of drum n bass. Going to England in a few days so might change soon.
Nope
I wasn’t expecting to love this as 90s dance music, in its various forms, is quite often not my thing. But I know Goldie is a respected and pioneering figure in the scene so I thought there might be something here to enjoy anyway. I was wrong. ‘Timeless’ it ain’t. Except in the sense that it goes on so long, it seems to exist outside of time itself.
Olihan tällä hetkensä, mutta... taas sama ysärielektrokomppi joka biisissä. Vähän mielikuvitusta lisää vision lisäksi, pyydän. Puuduttavaa kuunnella melkein kolmatta tuntia.
Kansi näytti hirveältä, välttelin tämän kuuntelua päiväkausien ajan, kuuntelin pienen osan, ja siksi voinkin esittää objektiivisen arvioni, jonka mukaan tämä on parhaimmillaan huomaamattoman rytmikästä ja huonoimmillaan melodisen karseaa.
Yes this was one of the first big Drum and Bass records, but it’s a crap genre so that becomes a dubious honour. The female vocalist’s voice is fine, the backing instruments are fine, but it all goes to shit when that godawful drum and bass kicks in. It’s just boring, monotonous and way too much.
I skipped and scanned my way through this album. 2 hours of drum & bass is simply way too much for me. The repetitiveness within each track makes me question my sanity. Won't be coming back to this. Fave tracks: State of Mind
This is just boring. Also the singing is bad. Guess it did not live up to the title.
"Timeless?" More like "Endless."
State of Mind, This Is a Bad (album and listening experience) Offensive length. 🗑️
this isn't timeless. it's 2 hours of boring. listen to "summoning redemption" by morbid angel instead. That song has a great respect for my time. Favorite song: Summoning Redemption by Morbid Angel
This is a Bad (Album)
I’m apprehensive about this album today. Almost two hours of drum and bass is quite a lot, especially for somebody like me who rarely likes the genre (with a few exceptions). Fingers crossed, and hopefully this won’t be a slog. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: State of Mind This felt like a prime example of the law of diminishing returns. The very first track is 20 minutes long and wasn’t TOO bad, but definitely too long. The next few songs were decent, but by the time I got to the 35-40 minute mark, I couldn’t take it any more. I can appreciate the beats to a degree, but it’s less easy to get really into drum and bass when sober. I didn’t finish this album. It was just too damn long, and too much of the same thing.
tried to listen to this like 3 times, always failed so...
Album 37 of 1001 Goldie - Timeless Favorite Track : Rating : 1 / 5 Somewhere in the world there is someone who considers this their favorite album just as somewhere in the world there is someone who considers head cheese to be their go-to snack.
I want to throw up
mais um álbum que levei alguns dias para terminar. só achei ruim mesmo, é pra ser meio eletrônico, dance mas não curti.
Definitely not timeless. Too much time. All two hours of it.
Let me tell you I listened to the entirety of this 2 hour album man and guess what it’s a fuckin beat tape. I listened to the whole thing so I could say yes this is exactly what I expected it to be and nothing else
Yea No
"Timeless" was aimless and pointless.
Timeless by Goldie..... Should be called Talent-less. This is just a drum machine on loop, with sampling, and other garbage thrown in for good measure. All with Diane Charlemagne's pitchy lyrics laid overtop. This goes on for 2 HOURS!!! The song Sea of Tears includes a looped track of someone crying for 2 minutes!! Why?!? It also features looped whale noises and waves throughout. Do you know what an annoying noise is after about 30 seconds? WHALE NOISES!! People who like this music have no fucking idea what music is. This is just garbled trash that any person with a modest understanding of computers could recreate in their living room. Electronica has in no way helped shape the future of GOOD music at all, it is shit music for simple minded people who are high as fuck on Molly. The first song on this record was 21 minutes long for some reason. Nothing happened. I spent the whole time waiting for a bass drop or change of some kind, but nothing. The same looped shit for 21 minutes, with the addition of pitchy moaning from time to time. Whoever put this garbage on this list needs their head examined. Utter trash. Favourite song: Inner City Life (Baby Boy's Edit) simply because it is the shortest song on the album. Still trash, but only 3:30 worth instead of the average 7 minute helping... Least favourite songs: The entire dumpster fire of an album 1/5 because I can't give negative stars. To paraphrase Billy Madison: "This is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point, in this rambling, incoherent noise, were they even close to anything that could be considered music. Everyone in this generator is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
One song sounds like somebody playing a ps1 game with all the weird random sfx, the other has a phone vibrating in the background for the entire duration (7 minutes). At some point I lost it and started laughing uncontrollably because of how absurd the noises are. I guess it's the type of music you shouldn't pay attention to while listening. Not for me. The second half sounds more normal and almost makes you forget how bad the first half is.
I hate drum and bass
Trash. Don’t waste our time with these albums.
The seemingly 100th electronic subgenre album which also doesn't convince me to ever see this genre as anything one should listen to as leisure. Due to its ridiculous runtime, probably the album which I skipped ahead the most so far
Sorry not a fan!
This is the second album I did not finish during my listening journey. I managed to listen for just over an hour. But when I saw I was only on the sixth song and there was still ANOTHER hour to go, I decided to stop. If I was on molly during midnight rave in an abandoned warehouse circa 1995, I would love this album. Or, maybe if I was hacking into the Matrix. While I appreciate that Goldie was a product of the electonica scene at the time, I can't help but feel pioneers like The Prodigy did it so, so, so much better. I want to give this 2 stars because it's not talentless, but I have to give it 1 star because I can't ever see myself listening to this again.
This list far far far over values the significance of 90s electronic. So many of these sound so similar without offering anything new or groundbreaking to the genre. Album isn't as bad as this rating, but it's just too much of the same on this list
You wouldnt steal a car. Piracy is a Crime. Jeg skjønner at dette albumet er historisk fordi det er det første i en sjanger, men det stopper der
Nope can't do this.
Long, boring, and repetitive with no standouts. I usually give this kind of music some leeway but this was just rude.
Nothing hit for me. Felt very generic electronic. I did enjoy the vocals, but other than that really nothing special here at all.
Unbearable. I'm not a big fan of the genre and this is the absolute worst representation I can think of. Uninteresting music that is criminally over long. I seriously don't understand why anyone would like this. I hate it. One of the worst albums I've drawn to this point.
I don't know how people listen to this. I don't know what it is. Is it music? I guess someone thought so.
Not sure I'll be able to finish this one. I mean - good God it's so long. It seems like there's either nothing going on and it's putting me to sleep, or there's too much going on and it's annoying.
Apart from the occasional nice parts, I felt like this album wasted almost two hours of my time.
Midway through This is A Bad I thought "This is bad". I saw no reason to put myself through more of it.
I guess shitty electronics cliches have to come from somewhere
Did not finish I am a bad listener
Nearly 300 albums in and I think this has been the first one I didn't finish? It's not a great look when it feels like the record is running ideas and there's still *checks time* ten minutes left of the opening song I bailed after track two
wasn't even halfway done when i started wanting this to end already
could not make it through till the end
Waste of 2 hour of my life
very long and bland, while there certainly were a few noteworthy ideas, they should have been condensed, instead I get almost 2 hours of repetitiveness (and I am actually quite fond of long-structured songs!)
NO MORE EDM PLEASEE
Couldn't even make it through the first song.
While this album is probably a good version of whatever it is supposed to be, it’s just not for me. I had it on in the background while I worked and forgot it was on most of the time. This is not a good thing.
Ik vond dit een heel saai album. Ieder nummer klonk voor mij hetzelfde, en dan duurt het nog eens zo lang
Not a fan of dnb so I’m trying to be as unbiased as possible but I’m just not seeing how this could be considered good. Maybe it’s like the first of its kind or something so it’s historically good but it’s just so plain and nothing. I’m ngl I skipped through some parts of the songs cause it was just so boring.
The worst type of background music.
So very long
Life's too short for this album. It was never going to be a favorite, but I didn't expect to hate it. There are moments where I'll enjoy a few seconds of something interesting happening, but they are buried in these songs that do not earn their length.
There are barely words to express how awful this is. It is also unendingly long. Almost 2 hours of noise without any hint of emotion, melody, musicality or artistic merit. Listening to it genuinely felt like a punishment. A godawful album cover too. I understand that people have different tastes and opinions, and that is all part of the rich tapestry of humanity that keeps life interesting. However, I would seriously question the intellect and character of anyone who likes this. Rating: 1/5 Playlist track: Inner City Life - Baby Boy's Edit Date listened: 18/05/22
To me this was pretty boring and felt like background noise. Basic elements of techno 90s music. The album was long and didn’t have any exact moments of highs or lows. 2.7/10
04/20/2022 This begins with a 21-minute long track. Really tells you a lot about what you're getting into. Had some nice things to say! Then it kept going. And going... And going. Lots of noise.
Are you fucking kidding me?
Absolutely dire, this. Not a massive fan of this kind of music, and for it to work it needs to have a lot more energy than it does. Also, almost two hours long???
nope not me
I just can't.
This morning, I felt bad reading some of the harsher one star reviews for "Timeless": jungle and drum'n'bass are fairly niche genres, so it's understandable that a listener dipping into it on a merry-go-round of 1001 albums may not get a lot from it. But then I listened to it, and now I'm becoming one of those people. It's all on account of my vanilla preferences, but I guess I'm going to have to join that slew of one star reviews. I've never heard any Goldie before, and I must admit my knowledge of drum'n'bass or jungle goes about as far as "that stuff David Bowie tried in 1997". So I approached this as a cautious outsider to the genre, putting it on whilst working and unsure how much it would stick. The first hint that "Timeless" doesn't live up to its name is given by its garish album cover. The absolute confirmation comes about three minutes in to its opening 21 minute track, when it becomes clear the piece isn't going to develop much further than intermittent breakbeats and some ethereal pads and vocals. It may be a landmark album in drum'n'bass, but it's just a genre I don't care for too much personally and having to sit through ~2 hours of it is tooth-pulling. I don't want to dismiss it all completely: there were a few moments that were enough to make me sit up and pay a bit of attention. In truth, it's more melodic than I expected: there's a nice focus on atmosphere and more dynamic shifts than I thought there would be. I enjoyed the female vocals on many of these tracks, adding a touch of soul and warmth that it's hard to achieve with electronic drum samples. "State of Mind", for example, has verses, a solid refrain, and a sense of rise and fall. It's garnished with tinkling piano lines, a fretless bass hook and washes of cinematic synth strings. It's the clear high point of an album like this, and gave me slightly more respect for it. Unfortunately, most of that was then undone by the follow-up, "This Is A Bad", which was back to the formulaic loops and electronics- didn't do anything for me. Tracks like "This Is A Bad", "Saint Angel" and numerous others I won't go through in detail are much more similar to what I expected the album to be. They rarely let up from their breakbeat loops for about ten minutes, and don't go to anywhere near enough places to deserve being listened to for so long. If this had been about a third of its length (a whopping 105 minutes) then it could have boosted my star rating to at least a 3. But as it is, I'm going to stick with one star just because I don't even have the energy to listen again and articulate my thoughts on the rest of it.
On dirait la soundtrack d'un jeu flash tah jeux.fr en 2010
Musicn't to my ears.
