Reviews (page 6 of 8)

I'm more an idm guy. Bit to repetitive but not bad to listen to but wouldn't again. Need to review at the time I can never remember. 4/10

Hypnotic. 2.9

Timeless. A good description in a way, as time did seem to pass less quickly than normal during this mammoth trip through drum and bass-land. I guess it's quite impressive, on its own merits, but it's not fun to actually have to sit down and listen to. A bit like Orbital earlier in The Project, I feel harsh judging this after I'd listened to it during the working afternoon, rather than at 2am in a warehouse somewhere (which for the record, I'd hate).

Not for me

I understand the inclusion of something like this, but a nearly 2 hour long album is a bit much. This is just also not for me and feels like maybe a candidate to drop for this thing.

Very ... alternative. The first song being over 20min long didn't make me excited in the first place, but the whole album is like that. It's not really a coherent song list as well, other than all of them having a focus on instrumentals and are extremely long. I could see this album working as background music for a film, but nothing I'd listen to for the sole purpose of listening.

Anything but. A title like this begs the question: does the music sound dated? And the answer is: very much so. And from the very first notes, too, those skittering synthy-drum machiney beats which woulda been very au courant and an essential underground-y sound for at least 15 minutes in 1995, but not much longer and just serve to make listeners jittery, whether or no they are appropriately intoxicated. Maybe it was ahead of its time then; now it just sounds like then. Drum-and-bass vibes dominate, ultimately falling to a level that is just above background music – and annoying background music at that. Vocals add very little and also mire in sheer '90s-ness, this style of singing having gone the way of chokers, crop tops and bucket hats. Re "Sea of Tears" – one personally weeps at a much lower BPM. The record has ample ambition and aims for a wide scale/scope; and there are a few moments of interest (the quite pleasant "Adrift," as apt as a song title as the album title is inaccurate), but not enough to make up for its being utterly bereft of soul, which is what makes music reach across generations and eras to become, you know, timeless and which so much of club-oriented synth music so glaringly lacks.

Not really my jam here…to me much of this sounds like noise, frankly. State of Mind is solid, really liked it. Something about the fast drum beats paired with the slow melodies makes me uncomfortable. I like off signature times but not in this context

Started good, then got repetitive and boring.

Bog standard BGM. Sea of Tears was not sad, nor did A Sense of Rage inspire any rage. Put this on if you need some non-distracting study music or something, but don't expect it to keep you awake.

Makes me feel like I'm playing a space shootey Playstation 1 game

Warehouse 90s techno

Goldie be like: 'I am going to make an album that is so long' Like seriously, there's some genuinely good stuff in here, but Jesus CHRIST why did this have to be 110 minuets long, like holy shit. This is clearly an absolute trip of a producers ego and I won't be revisiting it any time soon lol.

not my vibe

Not in the right headspace for this at the moment, verging on bad trip territory

Lacked spark. Maybe I just needed some more snap.

this is the most boring ahh album, i need to be in a club for this to be good

Some of these songs are entirely too long and drag WAY on

Not my taste, but nothing egregious. It was fine as background music, but I wouldn't seek this out myself.

Ok...but WAY too long. I am a decently large EDM type music fan, especially from this era, but Drum N Bass was never really my thing. 2/5

Award for the most ironic name goes to: Goldie. It’s not Timeless at all but in fact extremely dated. But it’s also pretty iconic. I think it’s a bit of a disservice to have it on a list like this, next to The Undertones one day and Elton John the next. This is dance music and it’s not really designed to listen to as an album (I don’t think so anyway). Is it an important album? Yes. Is it a pioneering album? Yes. Do I want to listen to it all? No. Maybe one isolated track, in the mix, while on drugs, in a sweaty club, but not for 2 hours in the kitchen while I cook tea.

Nearly gave up on this. I get that this is a pioneering album for the genre but it sounded badly mixed and dated. The first track being 20 mins was a joke. There were a couple of enjoyable parts but it mostly dragged on.

Kind of boring.

with enough green stuff, maybe. At work, probably best to avoid for TP employees.

Favourites: • Timeless: I. Inner City Life II. Pressure III. Jah • Still Life

28th July 2023 Listened throughout the day on Friday. Went to watch Oppenheimer then out to dinner in Cheltenham. Live yes. Listening as a full album no.

Just not my thing, has it's merits for the genre, but it's one of the few genres I can't stand.

Living in the city, you know you have to survive. Living in the city, you've got to keep the dream alive.

Way too long, kind of repetitive, but I didn’t completely hate it.

It was too long.

It was fine to have on in the background, wasn't terrible, wasn't great either, just felt long, so so long! 2.5

Too heavy for me

kind of spacey and futuristic. Very produced and engineered. Nah

Its very zeitgeist. A bit of a splash in its time but you wouldnt choose it nowadays. Also, it was always way too long

I don't know. There's a lot of energy in this for the specific place, specific time, specific shroom. I'm not in that place right now, and most likely won't be in the foreseeable future.

I was definitely looking forward to this one being over. It is LONG. And the music is interesting when you're just dissecting the various pieces and layers; there is a lot going on. However, the music is like jazz electronica, it's all over the place and as a listener there is no groove or easy rhythm to attach to. It's actually stressful to listen to. Not my cup of tea.

I’ve tried listening to this one twice, it’s just not my thing.

I dont have anything against Drum&Bass but this is a drag. The songs feel aimless and meandering. I will concede that it is possibly quote well suited as background noise but that is hardly a compliment about its quality. For a conscious listen however, life is just too short.

I don’t have a clue how to rate this. I’m listening to this on the train to New York and it’s the first time that I’ve felt like I had to do something else (e.g., reading) while listening. I didn’t not like it though, it’s just music that to me is typically background noise and not a standalone thing to listen to. It also clocks in at 113 minutes which is really really long. The first song alone is 21 minutes. It seems like this was pretty critical for early electronic drums & bass type music. It’s just a little too up tempo and intense at a lot of points for it to be really strong to me for background music purposes, and it’s not interesting enough to stand out otherwise. Favorite song: Sea of Tears Other: Adrift

I don’t have familiarity with drum and bass enough to comment with confidence on this album. I had to read up on Goldie, and Timeless, to understand the impact this album has had, but I still don’t have a frame of reference for exactly how it influenced other musicians. The only thing I kept thinking was “this sounds like generic drum and bass that you’d hear in the background of a movie or video game”. And that’s valid, because Goldie apparently set the soundscape for others. Maybe other drum and bass bands aren’t very creative and are just sticking to imitation, maybe I haven't found a band that is creative and unique yet (likely), or maybe I just don’t like drum and bass.

For a record called Timeless this sure sounds like a playstation 1 racing game

It feels like I’ve already listened to this one twice over before thru this project alone. This style of electronic is definitely more easily digestible than say Prodigy but it lacks the energy I really want from this genre, it should make me at least want to dance a bit? I guess it’s chill wave electronic? I made it; it’s done. 2 stars

2.5 stars. Groundbreaking electronic album that feels dated. The fast beats are good at times but nearly 2 hours of this drops the rating for me. I appreciate something that moved forward the EDM genre but probably won't go back and listen to any of it.

It's the guy from Snatch! I didn't know he's a musician. First of all, the length of the album which is 1h 53m is discouraging. Secondly the genre jungle and drum and bass. I like Pendulum a lot but that's about it. I haven't found many other in the genre that I like. After listening to this the length was indeed an issue. I was waiting for it to be over and it doesn't have to be this long. I also didn't like this type of drum and bass. It felt very bloated and repetitive. I can't give this a 1 as I've heard a lot worse on the 1001 album list.

It has been an interesting listen. In my early twenty's I had a lot of friends listening to GOA trance and Drum 'n' Bass. So I was aware how influential this album was. It doesn't mean it's a really good album though.

It was a bit of a chore to get through this one. It's very much of its time and also very much in need of some serious editing. There's nothing on here that justifies the length. I get the significance of this to its genre and can't knock it for that, but it was hard to stay engaged with this one. Diane Charlemagne's vocals help warm up the sound considerably where she appears. But much of this is forgettable. Fave Songs: This Is a Bad, A Sense of Rage, State of Mind, Angel

A lot to appreciate here, but also... A LOT. It's far too much for a single album, the bloatness makes it a challenge to appreciate it's best parts. Speaking of best, the opening track "timeless", running for more than 20 minutes, is absolutely fantastic, and the highest point in the album, which is almost two hours long.

I was pretty bored by this. Couldn't make it through. 2/5

Not really my thing

too long kinda meh Sea of Tears was alright

Takes me back to some PS1 games where I’m driving a jet ski off of ramps and catching big air, while the high tempo drumns n bass are blasting me into a futuristic state where nothing else matters except the water and waves. Therefore, younger me would probably give this a higher rating considering it also reminds me of the original Killer Instinct soundtrack, which I absolutely loved as a 7 year. So merely for the nostalgic kick I will treat this album a little more fairly.

Généralement super long et monotone. Ça sonne plus comme une musique d'ambiance pour avoir en background. 4/10

i mean i’m sure it’s good for what it is but it’s a 2 hour long techno album. i’m not gonna enjoy just sitting down listening to it

I noped out of listening to the whole album. Once again, an album that should not be listened to at 5am after a really good night’s sleep.

This album was fine, but the length really started to bother me after a couple songs. Electronica is almost always way too long, which sucks if the song sounds good. I probably should have given some of my other 90's electronica albums a 2 as well. Anyway, my favourite song was probably Timeless, but it is long-winded.

Yeah, so this made me realize I'm not a jungle fan. This became more listenable as it went, but it's overly long and not my style. 1 - bad 2 - average 3 - good 4 - great 5 - outstanding

I have been enjoying some of the electronic music on the list, but this is too repetitive for me. It lacks enough musicla ideas to sustain 20+ minute track lengths

Wallpaper music. That just goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on.

Klapper, schepper, klapp. Gähn. Nicht ganz furchtbar, kann ich aber nicht durchhören.

Feels like it had a lot of good ideas and then overstayed it's welcome by an hour fifteen at least. Production is rad especially for it's time but maybe I just wasn't stoned enough to appreciate things like pretty much the same drum break for 20 minutes on the opening track

An album that got worse, the more I listened to it. Seriously impressive feat. The first 5 minutes, I had my jaw dropped… what is this symphonic, atonal, music, how are these drums hitting so hard? It was really a treat. It felt like the overture to an extremely enticing sci-fi film. But then the first track went on for 22 minutes. And it got worse! As in, repetitive worse. As a dance track, yes it makes sense. But then the album stopped impressing me. Its charm wore off by around track 3 or 4. Insanely interesting ideas at first, just lackluster execution that left me confused. 2/5

Not for me.

Standard DNB. Pretty boring.

Seems ok. 2.5

Background music

Hard to give this one a fair rating when it's being presented so far outside its intended context. If this was on at a club while I was out on the floor, then sure, I wouldn't mind the vibes. As a solo listening experience, however, it's way overlong, repetitive, and annoying - but again, I don't think it's /intended/ to be listened to on its own! Times like these are when I wish I had the 1001 blurb on hand to understand why exactly an LP like this made it onto the list.

I went to check how far along I was in the album and I was still on the first track! Holy fuck a 21-minute opening track. This is definitely not my style, but I'm sure somebody out there loves this drum/bass stuff. I loved going to raves but never liked D&B. I'm not on enough acid to want to revisit this.

The single CD version of this album is better than the 2 hour beast that is linked here, but it's still over long and a bit underdeveloped. Inner City Life is good and moody, but the rest is just 90s background muzak.

How do the vocals not match the music so badly background kinda slaps but Jesus Charli XCX takes inspo from this The song called “this is bad” u were right Only good for 3am when u leave ur body

Not really my kind of music. I tried listening through it but it all sounds the same. And while I felt there were some songs I liked in the first part they were all wayyy too long and would just go downhill in the second part. so I gave up in the first half of the album Saved songs: State of Mind, Sea of Tears

Was ok at times, but too damn long

Underwhelming. An artefact from a specific moment in time – of historical interest/significant alone. An analogy: compare Dizzee Rascal and Goldie. Rascal was a Grime pioneer. He earned the right to 'Bonkers' (which is a cool song, btw. But, you know, cred and all that.) Goldie had been in the D n' B trenches. But much more a water-carrier. An enthusiastic water-carrier, but still. Enthusiasm just meant that everyone was hydrated. it doesn't change the course of wars or anything.

How on earth do you review this kind of stuff? 'Timeless' is a long ass track. I like the beep-boop sounds around the 13 minute mark. 'Inner City Life' is the only part of the entire album that I recognize. 'State of Mind' is quite enjoyable and the album is atmospheric enough ('Still Life', 'Sea of Tears'), but it's just way too long. Even most movies have a hard time filling out such a runtime.

Not for me

This album was just nothing for me. It blended into the background really well once it started, and it only had me start listening a couple times throughout the album. Did I hate it? No, but the only situation I could imagine actually liking it is in the middle of playing something like Gran Turismo, otherwise I can't imagine dancing, or just listening to this.

I'm no electronic music expert, but I do enjoy the genre as a whole. So, despite reviews absolutely slamming this for being drivel, I thought "surely I'll find things I like about this album." Well, not really... Maybe Goldie is the pioneer of the classic drum and bass sound we know today that is so prevelant on this album. I don't know. But, listening to this, it doesn't sound innovative, it doesn't seem to stretch the boundaries, and half of the beats aren't even that catchy and danceable. I guess since this came out in '95 it was groundbreaking for the time? If you look at YouTube comments for each song as you go through, you will see that people LOVE this and consider it a masterpiece. Personally, I found it to be mostly boring and repetitive and the female vocals not outstanding. To say this album is too long is a massive understatement. I'm honestly looking forward to more EDM albums on this so I have something to compare it to, because in my mind, I don't see electronic music lending itself to "must listen" albums but rather signature artists and must-hear songs (a la "Sandstorm"). This one had it's moments, I suppose (the standout for me was one small section of "Sea of Tears"), but all the songs had basically the same drum and bass loop and never went anywhere.

This was an absolute chore to get through. '90s Drum and Bass is definitely not my genre. It sounds sooooo dated, too. Only reason I give it 2 stars is that every so often, the deep bass would shake my windows and I got a kick out of that.

Not really my style. Can appreciate the significance the album had for the dance scene though. 2/5

Endless loopy pap.

The beginning sounds like an endless song. And the end sounds like the beginning. 🤔

mehhhhh

I only give it a two because I love modern bass music and what’s happening in the EDM scene and because this guy is a pioneer for all other breakbeats and heavy bass in edm. If I compared it to current stuff, it’s absolute trash but probably crazy dedicated and new at the time so I respect with the two star.

Not my thing, especially not 2 fucking hours of endless loops of stoned club beats. Give me a break.

Oy, this was tough to get through. Nothing in particular wrong with it, but nearly two hours of electronic music is not my idea of an enjoyable Wednesday morning. I feel similar to this as I feel about the band Rush - I appreciate the technical skill that went into it, but that doesn't mean I like listening to it. 2 stars.

Ovo negdje u klubu slušati. Dobro je, dugo traje, al to je normalno za ovu vrstu glazbe.

Can see the love and the hate when it comes to this album. I prefer rating these albums I'm given based on tightness of tracks, filler etc. While I can appreciate the drum and bass and this records influence. These tracks could definitely be shorter as a listening experience. Otherwise it's just background music and not an experience. Might be more of a journey if you're consuming substances. It's good and I enjoyed bits of it.

Well not really my thing.. I like the music, but vocals seem to be juxtaposed to the music. People need vocals so I get it.

Maybe as cocktail party background, or swanky, hip hotel elevator music, but it just felt interminable. I kept checking to see if I’d finished the album and it had started over. I like the music, but I couldn’t tell one track from the next.

Mostly it was just background music. It was a really long record and I won't be revisiting it. Lots and lots of the Amen Break though.

Not for me. Didn’t hate but didn’t really like it. And it’s way too long.

Timeless??? I beg to differ. This album sucked the life out of most of my morning… keyword: sucked. There is no earthly reason for the opening track to be 21 minutes long, it could have accomplished the same atmosphere and mood in far less time. Overall, this album was way too long. I would have hated it much less had it not gone on and on and on with mediocre beats and obnoxious singing.

Nah man

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is a 17 minute drum track. The producers of Timeless must've thought to themselves that that was a record that needed to be broken and created a 21 minute electronic drum track. The only problem is, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is good and Timeless' 21 minute eponymous opener and the rest of the album is total shit. From the original version of the book: "Some of Timeless sounds dated today, but few dance producers have come close to realizing such an ambitious artistic vision. It is the sound of future jazz from a distance planet, set to the sharpest beats." Andy Pickering, the poor individual charged with writing the paragraph for Goldie's entry must've fallen and hit his head. Nothing about jungle-drum-and-bass music is a must listen to and that music surely has not aged well. Nor has his entry for this album. 2/5.

Glad to hear the flight of the concords reference in timeless. Otherwise, is this album really relevant on this album?

Quick drum and bass. Doing it before I knew it was a thing.

Goldie was a new band for me, and Timeless was new music. The opening track reminded me of some of the soundtrack for the Power Puff Girls, but the rest of the listening experience dropped off after that. The album felt long. I did not enjoy many of the vocals, and the electronic music was repetitive enough that I had a hard time distinguishing between the tracks on the album. This album was not for me.

Well...this was an album. I can't say I HATED it, but the experience was profoundly underwhelming. It sounds like the stock music they used in early 2000s GTA games. It's not actively horrible, honestly. It's just really forgettable. I can't say I have a fave track but I also didn't hate it. A blah two stars from me.

Will say listening through this gave me more appreciation for DnB, but did not really like the album that much overall. Drum & Bass is already a very hit or miss for me as it is and this album did not hit. It felt like if the album had a thesis, it would've been "Melancholy". Much prefer Pendulum's style ;)

Långtråkigt, kändes tre timmar långt.

I appreciate Goldie for many things. Appearing on Come Dine With Me, accidentally giving away Banksy's first name, being in Eastenders. Musically, when he's at his most focused his output is exceptional. When i say focused..... I mean restricts his tracks to 7 minutes or less. I just feel that he sometimes veers into self indulgence and the more ambient side of his music just becomes a bit.....boring

Just boring. Almost every track could be 1/3 of the length.

A gave this a go. Really not my jam but actually more likeable than I imagined

Too long. I finished my commute before the 1st track finished. Cover art 2/5

Meh. Every song sounds the same. Every song on the radio station that it played also sounds the same.

Good, but songs were a little long. I felt I got the vibe for a few songs at the 2 out of 7 or 8 minute mark, and not much else was added in the remainder of the song.

File under “good for them for essentially inventing drum & bass” but not my jam (unless I’m in a sketchy basement with lasers & strangers of course 😂 )

that was too much DnB

Jungle ain't it

Goldie? Never even heard of it. Bet it sucks though. Oh and apparently it goes for almost 2 hours. Good, grand, wonderful! aaaaand it's scungy UK techno, annoying drums, instant ps1 snowboarding game vibes. Fuck off. 2 hours? More like 2/5.

4/10 this had some positive qualities but it was a lot of fucking drum and bass and some of the songs really overstayed their welcomes.

3/10. There isn't a lot of space in my life for a 90+ minute album of electronic music. There were enjoyable tracks here and there, including the 20 minute title track, but there were also some tracks that annoyed me or bored me, which is pretty rough when the average track is about 8 minutes. A high 3, but a 3 nonetheless.

Woof. 3/10

I understand the influence this album has in the drum and bass scene but feel it is better left in the clubs. To listen to this all the way through is difficult as it just doesn't go anywhere, I find it repetitive with no direction an from my standpoint uninteresting. It is also way to long. Listening to the entire work does not take me to a place that most music does, in fact it does the opposite in that it brings on a feeling of sadness listening to the album. There are a few tracks that are fine ("Inner City Life", "Sea of Tears") but overall it is not for me. I give it a 1 and a half - 2 stars.

Despite it's title, album is the opposite of "Timeless", it's a time capsule of what was to come for the drum and bass genre. And to be fair, the beats are interesting and fairly complex, and there are some wild moments tucked away on this 2 hour long album, but that's where it lost me. I didn't feel engaged enough to warrant a two hour runtime, and frankly, it's difficult to judge Timeless without the satire music that has surrounded the d&b scene in pop culture. Fav Track: None

"This is a Bad" - Goldie Sorry, I couldn't resist. The fact that this nearly two hour record starts with lines that would come to be the centerpiece of a Flight of the Conchords track did not help me take this album seriously. Nevertheless, I have to admit that it's fine, I guess. There's some interesting moments, but I feel like it mostly washed over me. I can appreciate that this is regarded as an influential record in the history of drum and bass music, but I just don't find it all that compelling to listen to. Favourite track: "Sea of Tears"

not a dnb guy

i don't love d&b to begin with, and i double don't love mid-90s d&b. it just more or less completely fails to please the ear (extra points if you recognize those words!). as mid-90s drum & bass goes, this was...y'know, fine. but i'll likely never love it, barring some large-scale alteration of brain chemistry

“Brings jungle to a new level of cross-fertilization.” But not as good as Vivaldi.

Really? 2 hours of monotonous beats, strange slightly musical noises? A breakthrough? A masterpiece? I don't get it. Do I have to listen to all of this? How about we pass a law that albums like this be no longer than 45 minutes. Not totally bereft of value. But I have no desire to ever listen to it ever again. 2 stars

Was ok

Tbh I don't see nothing special in case of d'n'b, even taking into consideration the fact of releasing this album back in XX century. Nevertheless, it is still quite good, but I don't really understand why it is put here.

Only listened to half

Drum and bass. Largo. Coñazo

Not my thing at all but could have it as background music i suppose.

Not really my thing, kind of difficult to listen to all the way through. Some good songs on there though.

Why am I trapped in an early 2000's skating game for the Playstation 1? Jokes aside, Drum and bass does not work for me. I wince at the screamy razor-sharp and breathy female vocals combined with annoying effects and droning bass. The genre is perfectly fine when it is sampled... at times, but for a record that is nearly 2 hours it is not an enjoyable experience.

old dumb and bass, meh

too long ehhhh

When I first read the artist I thought it was a different Goldie. Interesting to hear D&B on this list. Interesting but not a fan of the lilting crooning woman. Some of the high pitched synth sounds are a bit grating too. Repetitive, but that's the style of music.

zu stressig

21 min for the first song??? wtf??

Drum 'n Bass. Veel drum 'n bass. Heul veul drum 'n bass.

Znawca elektryka nie jestem, ale dwa gatunki zawsze rozpoznam dubstep oraz drum&base, calkowicie nie moja bajka, zbyt szybka muzyka jak dla mnie, jednak ten material ma tez wolniejsze tracki, adrift you&me state of mind, z dziwnie skompononowanymi wokalami, ale jednak ma, mimo tego strasznie meczylem ten albumik, jego spotifajowa wersja ma prawie 2 godziny, wiec przyjalem ponad programowa dawke elektronicznosci, na plejke leci saint agnel oraz this is bad, wacham sie miedzy 2 a 3, pewnie gdyby albumik mial godzinke, to byloby 3, ale zbyt mnie ta sesja wyssala z zycia

Pretty decent DnB album but hasn't aged especially well for an album called Timeless, it doesn't stand out at all now.

Not really my thing, not so bad though.

Back when I was doing warehouse raves in the '90s I sometimes went to the jungle room because that's where the cute guys danced. I never lasted longer than four songs. I genuinely mean no shade to this artist, I just can't handle the whole freaking genre.

This album did not do to well in the Netherlands. I found it an interesting album to listen to. Some numbers sounded a bit like Soft Soul. These songs I liked.

Not very Timeless, and not really my thing, but it's interesting to see what's a really important landmark in DnB

Not into the jungle/ drum bass

Lol major techno vibes. It’s decent, just kind of sounds like everything else like this

I'm sure it's very good, but I can't handle those drum & bass style ra-ta-tat drums...gives me palpitations.

i was not expecting this site to have drum and bass on it why is it so long

This was a bit difficult to get through. Drum and bass just isn't really my thing.

Look, just because an artist titles an album “Timeless“ it doesn’t mean that it is timeless. If I recorded my cat throwing up and called it “Double Platinum Perfection“ would it too make the list? Probably. I don’t know what the point of this is. People listen to it on purpose? Crazy.

Не для меня)

like a dvd menu for a dvd that makes you feel rather unwell

Jesus, there really is a lot of mediocre electronic music on this list, isn't there.

No private session used. Put the drum machine on a four second loop, occasionally throw in some keyboards and whacky sounds and you get this crap. If they wouldn't have made it so repetitive they wouldn't have gotten 1hour 53 minutes out of it.

lol, “THIS IS OUTRAAAAGEOOOUUUSSSS”. I love Jez and Superhans as much as the next guy who watched Peep Show, but their band sucked…and this sounds just like that, except without the comedy element. This just sucks. 1.5/10

This is album 964 and if I’m given another shit EDM record it will be too soon.

a kid banging on pans with a wooden spoon and someone straining for a poo. It was utter bilge.

Sounds of 90s video games, compiled but not arranged. It's like Wipeout and Ecco the Dolphin had a baby that survived an abortion. The drum beat is the Stock, Aiken and Waterman of this genre. Why doesn't it change?! Prrrrrrt p p p prrrrrt p p. MDMA had a lot to answer for, didn't it? This is to the 90s what LSD and Trout Mask Replica is to the 70s.

No standouts

Not my jam

don’t like 90s drum and bass

Not my genre

Someone once tried to explain Drum n Bass to me at a rave, they said I need to listen to the complex layers, and so I did... still sounds like crap. Very much a UK thing (as bad taste as the food) The only Drum and Bass I want to hear is Death From Above 1979.

Too long 2 hours long. It’s a slog, it’s like Aphex except he uses pan flute, asynchronous breakbeats 🥱, dolphin noises, and that 90s thing of a guy with voice augmentation going “YA-ya” over and over and over

Just a littttleeee bit too long. No need for such length when you’re not going to make anything out of it.

generous title... yeesh more brit garbo. that's some rough electronica

Oh man, I can't wait to listen to repetitive nothingness for 2 hours. If I was absolutely high out of my mind, I think I'd really enjoy this. That's about the only scenario where I would actually enjoy it, though. It's just way too repetitive which makes it really boring. There are moments that I actually like, but they're buried in 20-minute songs or surrounded by musical choices that I think suck. Things like really poor/off-key singing, electronic sounds that are really grating, or just the musical idea never changing for about 7 minutes. There were two remixes at the end of the album that I did not listen to, otherwise I would have (unfortunately) finished the album. Favorite Song(s): -

what the hell

I mean its Drum & Bass. If that's your thing then I am sure you will love it. Unfortunately I do not.

Time wasted

292 Struggled to get through this, even in my younger chemically enhanced days I disliked DnB but I find it pretty much unlistenable now

No reason for this to be on this list. I don't believe there's anyone who sits around and listens to this.

Tortura auditiva

Thumbs down lol

Longer than bitches brew and it’s this type of lame music??? Yeah I think that’s a skip for Eli.

Two listens, I don't get it.

Should have called it “anything but timeless”. Opening your album with a 21 minute song is nothing short of masturbatory, especially when it’s sparse and terribly repetitive drum and bass. And this is coming from someone who likes drum step and DmB normally. Overwrought underwritten self indulgent garbage. Couldn’t finish. ⭐️

Oh yeah, drum'n'bass. What all the posh kids are uni were listening to in '95. Dated and hard to listen to now. It was two stars to begin with, but lost another as it went on for so long.

Timeless? More like “Endless”.

I think this might be my first one-star review! Yay! I would love to find someone who gave this a close listen all of the way through stone cold sober. I would bet even Goldie hasn't done that. I feel like the drum and bass style lasted for like one summer's worth of raves and no one ever thought about it ever again. And certainly, absolutely, it was never intended for the album format. The only things that make drum and bass tolerable at all are a vast quantity of crystal meth and a vast desert mesa filled with people wearing glow sticks for necklaces.

It’s always the bad albums that have obnoxiously long opening tracks. This was just noise

Didn't like it at all. Really weird and really long songs

did not finish this. couldn't muster up the strength.

There is no word in the English language for how bad this is.

Welllllll, after seeing the album runtime of nearly 2 hours and the genre, I'm feeling pretty confident that I won't get through the whole thing. Let's see! Did I turn it off early? Press 1 for yes, 2 for no.

Can’t stand this what the he k

- why is one song 20 MINUTES LONG? I skipped that song along with any of the other songs over 5 minutes - the very second song, Saint Angel, is just this repetitive loop played over and over again. - State of mind, however, I liked. It had actual lyrics and had a nice beat/melody. I didnt like that constant phone buzzing beat playing the whole song tho. - I could only listen to a couple songs before turning this off. it's just the same repeated beat over and over with no good lyrics.

Nah, not going for a 2 hour drum and bass ride.

This album was a bit too long and unremarkable for my taste. I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to it again.

I think I just kinda hate drum and bass

Industriele sci fi geluiden 2 uur lang

2.5/10 I feel empty

That was way too long. 21 minutes of random noise. That's just the opening track? Great. Now there's wailing. This Is A Bad. Yes, yes it is. 2 hours of this crap? I'm done.

Did enjoy the Flight of the Conchords tie-in.

This was atrocious. I cannot adequately put into words how much I hated this. Why is it 2 hours long? Why does it all sound the same? Why is it just the same noises on loop for 8 minutes for every track? Why is this on the list? Why am I still wasting words on this album?

I didn't get through it....

ok, but not for me

Who? Man, this list has some weird turns and some really questionable inclusions. This is definitely one that doesn't belong. A 21 minute first song? It's the movie soundtrack as they pan across the barren planet and see unusual creatures migrating and bird-like beasts soaring nearby. Then it picks up pace at the 11 minute mark and then goes AWOL 5 minutes later with dated drums and anxiety creating beats. It only got worse from there. This is so dated and sounds like a couple kids jamming in mom's basement making cool noises n' shit. If you can sit through all 7 mins of "Saint Angel" or "Jah The Seventh Seal" you are impervious to pain or deaf. "State Of Mind" is a jazzy meandering and that's the #2 song on the album at 1.4M listens. "This Is Bad" was bad, just a drum machine for 6 minutes! "Angel" had 1.8M listens, why?! Almost 2 full hours long?! Not good, not relaxing, not innovative, no hits, not smooth but just the opposite, hugely dated sound, no hooks and no song structure. Purest form of shit I've heard on here in a few months. 1 star because I can't go lower.

Need drugs tot finish...

experimental, matrix-future -esque

Tedious. It’s one of those albums you hear people playing too loud in cars with lowered suspension.

“This is a Bad” on track 4 accurately describes this album. At its best, which is the beginning of every track, it sounds like video game menu music. Then these drums kick in and they do absolutely nothing for you because the music behind it is soulless. If someone told me this was created by AI, I’d damn near believe them. Timeless piece of a company’s holding music or a hotel’s elevator music.

I refuse to listen to another 20 minute song

really not for me.

This was like pulling teeth. 2 hours of 7+ minute tracks that go absolutely fucking nowhere.

I kept waiting for this to start, but alas it was just breakbeats, feedback and weird gutteral noises.

I mean, I was hoping to hear something like Aphex Twin or whatever, but thats just plain boring, maybe that was good for its time, or for the genre, but I can't really listen to that now

"This is Bad"

once youve heard one song youve heard them all. no need to listen to the full two hours

jesus, the editor of this list was a big time raver in the UK in the 90s. And it shows

one of these songs sounded like a dolphin. so. that was cool. album not really my vibe though lol

Over 100 minutes of music, and there's maybe like one track that I find 'okay'. This was so damn dull. This album is dated, from the awful album art, to the sound, to the WAY too long run time. And even taking that into account, this album gave me nothing to want to go back to. What a slog.

This just confirms my hate for the drum machine. I'm not a fan of "music" made by programming computers or where no actual instruments are played. I couldn't finish this one.

couldn't get through it

Dont ever recommended this to me again

I guess it was probably influential within its genre but its a hard no from me. Nevermind "Timeless" it just felt endless!

Never heard of Goldie before. Well, besides my childhood dog of the same name. He was a good boy! The description says it's groundbreaking for its "drum and bass" music, so I have turned up the bass for this. The first song, Timeless, goes for over 20 minutes. Lots of electronica has long runtimes, but like this is such a generic tune that to go for 20+ minutes it feels egregious and repetitive. I guess this is supposed to be mixed into other EDM music? That makes it hard to rate as a standalone album. I feel like I have heard Timeless but as parts of other songs. I think I can only rate it on what is presented here, although that feels inadequate it's the best I can do. I feel like I have heard the opening to Saint Angel before- was that sampled by Puretone for Addicted to Bass maybe? See I enjoyed that song when I heard it, but Saint Angel feels barebones. And i'm not really even sure about the link. Yeah album isn't good in any case.

p772. 1995. 1 star. Drum and bass is the musical equivalent of a panda, an evolutionary dead end, but without the cuteness. This is fucking awful - nearly two hours of badly dated drum machines and samples, multiple 6+ minute tracks and a prog-rock worthy opening abomination that is over 20 minutes long. Life is too short to waste on shit like this.

I am very confused by this album because i did not like the first song at all and wanted to turned it off but then i heard State Of Mind and loved it. And then again I was so bored but Sea of Tears was great. And then AGAIN i was so so bored. Anyway I don't get why those songs are on the same album they don't match and it's too long anyway. Maybe it would be a 2 because of the few good songs but this felt like a chore and i did not enjoy so 1.

Long and irritating

Well, what can I fucking say. I didn't much like it and it went on and on and on and on and on.

I can’t believe I made it all the way to the end of this.

Push these sounds back underground.

als ik een heel album naar boem boem tsjik wil luisteren zet ik Einsturzende Neubauten wel op... die kunnen dat perfect

Wow, the first album I couldn’t finish and I’ve done the 3hr Ella Fitzgerald one. Somehow even though it mostly is instrumental and I was studying, I still couldn’t bear it. This album affirms my belief that rave music isn’t good; you need to be some level of fucked up by drugs or alcohol or other stuff to actually want to listen to it.

This made me feel insane, not in a fun way.

As an adult nearing 50, I got an ear infection at the beginning of the year for the first time since I was 7 years old. My ear canal swelled up, it was painful, and I had fluid discharging from my ear for a while. My hearing was muffled and I had to see a doctor for medication. It went on for a few weeks and was kinda scary and concerning. The whole experience was so much better than listening to this pathetic excuse of an album of so called “music”.

Electronic music. Repetitive and boring.

The title is missing the word ‘not’ at the start.

Crappie

2 hours I’m not going to get back

Got 15 minutes in and gave up. Not my jam.

Long boring. Horrible listen.

Timeless - 2/5 Saint Angel - 2/5 State of Mind - 2.5/5 This Is a Bad - 2/5 Sea of Tears - 1.5/5 Jah the Seventh Seal - 2/5 A Sense of Rage - Sensual Vip Mix - 2/5 Still Life - 2/5 Angel - 2/5 Adrift - 2/5 Kemistry - 2/5 You & Me - 1.5/5 Inner City Life - Baby Boy's Edit - 1.5/5 Inner City Life - Rabbit's Short Attention Span Edit - 1/5

Music slop. Never heard it before, never will listen to it again. It's way too long, and it's mostly just shitty sounds that don't sound good to me. Hard skip. 1 / 10 - would give less than 1 star if I could.

Music too weird for me.

I'm rating this as 1 before even listening. Nearly 2 hours? Go fuck yourself

Loooooong and like 1 banger

A two hour album featuring uncredited whales and seagulls and random appearances by what I must assume is a moonlighting Chewbacca? Sign me up. 1.0/5.0: Embarrassing

So repetitive I had to fight to stay awake

1 out of 5, DNF. I tried but this album got too repetitive. There was one nice moment but I forgot what track it was.

Familiar with Goldie the actor, not the musician. I’d like to keep it that way after listening to this album.

I now know where Flight of the Conchords got Inner City Pressure.

This sucked for me. The first song is 21 minutes and it's very background/video game soundtrack/drum and bass and becomes just noise. Pretty much "Letter Kenney Skids" music. Not for me.

Couldn’t make it very far. Not my taste.

113 minutes is too long for an album. There's nothing explicitly bad going on, musically, besides the sheer volume of music on offer and the utter repetitiveness of that volume. Averaged out and cut to 40 minutes, this might be a 2 or (at a stretch) a 3, but there's so much wasted runtime that I can't in good conscience give anything other than a 1. Yes, the first track is just 20 minutes of cosmic drummy synthy stuff, but at points it's surprisingly enjoyable. I'll give it a pass in isolation, but only because it's so early on the album. If I was 93 minutes into any album and I saw this sucker come on, I'd be launching my phone into the stratosphere. Saint Angel is much worse, being seven minutes of the exact same mildly annoying drum beat with synths quaintly throbbing in and out like guests at an open house. The first genuinely really good track here is State of Mind, which is defined by its piano, standard funk-soul-disco singing, and string section. You can't deny that this one is feel-good even if it's fairly clichéd. The looped electronic drums are also *not* a focal point here, which is invariably a highlight. After this point the tracks blend together, which (as an enjoyer of variety) I dislike. Every odd-numbered track is slightly better than their even-numbered counterparts, at least until Angel, which is a direct lift from the far superior State of Mind but without the gorgeous piano to justify it. Others, like Jah the Seventh Seal and Still Life, are plain, boring cyber-utopias (I didn't even know that was possible). Adrift is something that wouldn't be out of place on side 2 of Bowie's Low, but it overstays its welcome by a fair bit. Exotic airy music with a decent vocalist and no tempo. But it doesn't pick up steam for all 8 minutes, which is poor song design. You & Me is the only strong track in the album's latter half. It reminds me of Marble Blast Platinum. And if I had a nickel for how many albums I've compared to Marble Blast soundtracks in the last two days, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice. The two versions of Inner City Life are solid closers to an otherwise unforgivably lacklustre album. 1/5 Key tracks: State of Mind, You & Me, Inner City Life

I'm going to assume this is one of the seminal albums of DnB and Jungle as genres and that's why it's on the list. I can respect that. It's also incredibly repetitive drum loops and someone screwing around with every button on their electric keyboard. I guess you need to be in a dark club dancing at 1am and not doing your Christmas shopping at 2pm to enjoy it a bit. Or at all. Also good god it's long. At least 3 times too long.

Ugh. Today’s going to be a short one because this album was a double album and right at two hours long. I made it through about five songs before I was just annoyed. I don’t need to be annoyed at Christmas time. I already feel like Charlie Brown up in this piece without some sort of electronic snare beaten into my brainpan. However, I did discover one thing about myself during this listening: I hate drum and bass music. Or, I may just loathe breakbeats. It took me a while to like them in metal, well, except for the most extreme cases. If you like drum and bass or electronic music and have never heard this album, according to Wikipedia, it’s like the gold standard. As for me and my house, we are not supporting this kind of trash.

Forced myself through listening to just half of this. Couldn't finish listening to the rest.

DNF. I got bored and couldn't get through it.

While I admire the craft, from my perspective, this is a load of techniques and production gimmicks in search of a song. Repetitive, dull and overlong - I guess I just don't get it... Sorry.

A 2 hour album that should have been a 2 minute song

Besides video game and sci fi movie soundtracks not sure who this is for...what a slog.

Bloated piece of garbage. I don’t care if it was influential, it sounds dated and it sucks even as a background noise for coding.

Really bad elevator music

C'est horrible cette musique ces voix non ?

Never heard of album or band. Not ready for a 2 hour album but here we go. First song is funky. Sounds almost like electric jazz, sounds thrown together. Apple Music says this is one of the most popular songs, I’m not making it all the way if that’s the case. Lots of different sounds but not much cohesion. Still not even halfway through the song. Needs to be done by now. It’s like one of those painting that looks like it’s just lines and colors in no particular order but for some reason it’s really famous. I was making beats like this as a 13 year old and they were just as bad. Second half are we fucking kidding. Very 90s/goofy. Stupid as alarms and phone rings. I can’t believe how much I hate this song. And they made it 20 mins. After minute 15 sounds like a horror film score. Not sure if the vocals were repeated enough (sarcasm). With all of this being said I like the outro minus the vocals. I like saint angel better, actually works together but should’ve ended after 3.5 minutes. I like state of mind, that piano is really good. First one that actually sounds like a real song. Pharrell vibes. Doesn’t even credit the vocalist which is the best part of the song, that’s crazy. 4 minutes too long once again. I like the baseline a lot. First minute of this is a bad was good, then it just gets weird. Sea of tears is kind of fun. Don’t need the guitar. Would like lyrics. Base at 340 is a great addition. Should’ve ended at 430. All of these songs are Extremly long for no reason. Especially considering there’s a lack of cohesion so you could just split them into two songs with a cool fade bridge from one to the next. There are some really good 30 sec-1min parts of all of these songs, but that means nothing when their 12 minutes long. Nah the seventh seal sounds like “futuristic” video game background music. Drums are pretty good. Back half sucks. Over produced. Beeps are annoying/way too loud. Bass line on sense of rage is sick, interested to see how it gets ruined. Called it, don’t know why they switched it up. Excess Beeps are much needed (not). This doesn’t seem like music that you could dance too. Still life is more of the same. Just not my style but I’m going to tough it out. Good working music because there’s nothing to get distracted by. Similar to the one minute thing I mentioned earlier, a lot of these songs have good elements just too much in top of it. Great vocals on angel. They need more of that. Back half is awesome. This is the best song on the album by FAR. Adrift sounds like an intro song, should’ve put it at the start. More of the same. Not really a fan. Whole album is the type of song that you’d play around your boys and they’d all say “what is his shit?” But in the worst way. None of these songs go together in the way I’d hope from a cohesive album. Maybe in cohesiveness is the theme and I’m not smart enough to get that. With that being said anyone who tries to tell you this is good is lying to themselves and probably sniffs their own farts. Is this what Europeans listened to in the 90s while America had jay z and mj and prince and Whitney Houston etc? They were missing out if so. Up until now I don’t have any worse than a two stars. This is getting a .5 just so it shows up as 1 star but I would not recommend to anyone. Half the time and I’d call it an average music production. It’s two hours of nothingness that my ears won’t get back. I hope this is number 1001 of the 1001 most influential. I can’t believe there’s still 4 songs left. Drums are super fast on kemistry. Did this type of music create the need for Molly or did Molly create this music? Either way both are bad for you. Cool outro on kemistry. First minute seconds of you and me 🔥🔥🔥. Next 5 is more overproduced bullshit. Piano is good. Admittedly I haven’t listened to much electronic, but comparing this to something like skrillex or avicii makes it sound like trash non sense. Inner city life baby boy edition is good. Actually sounds like a real song. Wish I didn’t have to wait an hour and half for it. Sick bass line. Normal length too. Rabbits version is worse. Didn’t need that. Like I said before, this album is getting a .5. I want my 2 hours back. Don’t waste your time.

I don't like this kinda electronic music, where it's just repetitive. It's probably cool to listen to at a club, while on substances, but at home sitting down, its boring.

Did not enjoy this. Boring and repetitive. I turned it off.

Literally could not finish this. Atrocious. I checked in on the progress because I was starting to get annoyed only to find there was still nine minutes left in the FIRST SONG. Please no more 2 hour electronica albums I'm at my limit. If I could give this zero stars I would

I typically enjoy this genre, but this was quite the cacophony

Opens with a 21 minute song that sounds like I'm having schizophrenia while surfing the web in the 90s

feels like a panic attack

Booooo!!!!

I have a plush doll named Goldie. I got her while on vacation. I don't remember the country where I got her, but it was probably in {Honduras, Grenada, Costa Rica, Mexico}. Originally, her name was Goldielocks. However, one time, when I was playing with her while being babysat, I swung her by her hair, and her hair got detached. Granted, you cannot be called Goldielocks without any locks, so now, her name is just Goldie. I still have her braids, and I've tried making my other plushies wear her hair. Goldie is my adorable bald princess. Anyway, her favourite colour is orange, her favourite activity is sleeping, and she is quite friendly. This album is a drag, by the way. 1.5/10.

# Album Name: Timeless # Artist: Goldie # Rating: 1/5 # Comments: Timeless? more like endless! This thing goes on and on and on and then on some more. WTF. Nearly 2 hours of this shit is unbearable. The songs are stupidly long for the sake of being long. Theres definitely a time and a place for this. Im sure its in the basement of a london hangout somewhere off yer tits on mandy. # Top Tunes: State of mind # Would I listen to it again? No

Maybe if I had a head full of MDMA...

Cool that I learned the Flight of the Conchords reference on Timeless. But let's be honest, I'm never going to listen to this again. For me, Goldie will mostly be known as the henchmen in The World Is Not Enough.

Nothing timeless about another space aged instrumental.

I guess this is what the future sounded like in the mid-90s. This hasn't aged as well as something like New Forms, which still sounds fresh. But it feels like Goldie was aiming for broader appeal here - it sounds too polished, too produced, and ultimately, a little soulless. Of its time. And very long.

I love Drum & Bass. Like, I LOOOOOVE Drum & Bass. Just need to make that absolutely clear. THAT SAID, I can't say I'm crazy about this album. Actually, I straight-up DON'T like this album. Metalheadz is huge and vitally important, representing a standard in Drum & Bass that still endures. There are many, many classic as fuck tracks and artists under the Metalheadz banner. The Metalheadz logo is itself iconic and has long represented the sound and feel of Drum and Bass. What we have here is that mid-90s era where beats are a bit slower than where they'd end up by the end of the 90s. That's okay, but the play time on these tracks is excessive. Like the track "Timeless" is over 20 mins long when it could have been 10 and would still be a long-ass song. This album is close to 2 hours long. I absolutely appreciate what is done with 90s electronic music production given much of the limitations imposed, particularly with regard to limited sampling capacity. And this album obviously seeks to take it's time and create immersive soundscapes. The synths and atmospherics on this are often great. The drums are mid. I feel this way about most of Goldie's work, that the sound and atmospherics are great, but the drums aren't ever fully doing it. "State of Mind" is very adult contemporary jazz. Feels weird listening to it. Hard to get through. "This Is a Bad" is aptly-titled and could also be named "This Is a Mess" 'cause the the drums are seriously all over the place and not in a good way. This sounds like it shouldn't have been pressed, but rather the file should have been deleted. Holy shit. Sounds like no one wanted to tell Goldie that it's fucked up. "Sea of Tears" sounds like a home studio buff who started dabbling in breakbeats, with a lot of guitar on top and a baseline that's too loud in the mix. Song is fuckin' 12 minutes long. This album is a hard listen. I try to stay committed to keeping other activities limited when listening to an album off the list, but I had to get up and do shit while this played. Fuck man. It's conflicting giving it 1 star 'cause I do like a lot of the sounds here. Like I would love to have access to the samples and synths used 'cause they could be turned out proper. But I don't ever want to listen to this again. Shouldn't be on this list. I know critics never pull the best Drum & Bass to represent the era, and I know that this album is a piece within the whole Drum & Bass story, but fuck. I would hate for this to be someone's intro to the genre. This is so boring. Sooo boring.

This album should be called not timeless because it's fucking long! Some interesting beats but wayyyy too long, I didn't even finish it.

I thought this album was of infinite length but it does in fact end eventually

Garbage

This is just not good either. I could have gone my whole life without listening to this. The songs go on for FAR too long and go NOWHERE. They are so repetitive and boring. I gave this .5 stars on Musicboard. Liked Songs: "State of Mind" and "Jah the Seventh Seal"

I thought for maybe 3 minutes that this would be interesting. It wasn't. 1.25

Not for me

Blind album and artist. I prefer big beat i think over drum n bass. This was just too much for me and too long it felt. Maybe it was the over repetition.

This kind of music genuinely stresses me out

This made me feel like I was in a 90s commerical in all the wrong ways
