I tried but not really my thing
zweiti hälfti besser
ok i get it. drum and bass is a genre that don't have much appeal. and its british. and honestly i like drum and bass but i hate this. i hate it when the "drrr-drrr-drr-dum dum dum dum deh deh deh deh deh" and stuff don't start in the first 3 seconds. 3/5
I had no idea Goldie thought he was a musician.
I read a comment that it was perfect music for coding - I would agree. I also don't code.
These selections are a book called 1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. In no way did I need to to hear almost two hours of sonic jumble and la-di -da, somehow combining smooth jazz and lite techno in an indulgent creator’s ramble that must have pleased Goldie very much, but bored the hell out of me. Do better, 1AYMHBYD. Do better.
I feel this genre doesn't really do it for me... Jungle, drum and bass but some tracks still hit. So it's good for a genre I'm not that into.
00's vibes. Reminds me of toonami/adult swim BGM.
Good music to have on in the background, which is to say I didn’t enjoy it but wasn’t aggravated by it either. It’s an almost-two-hour collection of (I can only assume) well-constructed drum and bass and it doesn’t do anything for me. Box checked, horizons expanded, moving on, thank god.
Ironic for an album called Timeless, that this has a sound that so clearly dates it to that particular time
Used this album as background noise to block out distracting noises. It worked perfectly for that, but whenever I paid attention, the album sounded a bit boring.
Drum and bass is not my thing.
Mescalin must have been so fun in the 90's.
Kind of dull and repeating. A 2 hour edm album that doesn't go to interesting places was a herculean task.
Ironic that an album called 'Timeless' manages to take almost 2 hours to play. I didn't hate it, but I will probably never play it again. Background music, repetitive background music.
Timeless, as in time becomes meaningless? I actually didn't hate this in the background, but I also don't think I REALLY listened to it, it was just there as constant noise, much like existential dread that you know is there, but don't want to examine too closely, so you just learn to live with it and mostly just ignore - you know?
This album had it moments, but after a while it was all the same.
I cannot listen to an album this long, simply don’t have the time. I imagine this is the case for a lot of people- as an artist I think it is an interesting choice to make. Either way, there were parts of this I liked but couldn’t stick around long enough to find them all. Generally drones on and on though so that’s the reason for my low score. Could have been tighter
Sure. This is decent for this type of music, but how many of these electronica albums are going to be a part of this project?
This is 1 hr 52 min too long.
Truth to be told, there were some gems buried under this monstrous album, though most of the tracks -- especially the vocal-focused ones -- were lacklustre.
sounds well produced, hard to rate fairly when not experiencing it as it should be played
Electronic beats, dragged on for a while
Boring electronica…next…
Actively listening to this album, esp a 20+ minute opener, is a big ask. We should be hearing 30 seconds of this in the underground warehouse club scene of a cop procedural, caged go-go dancer looking on as a guy in eyeliner is shook down for information. Or on the apartment stereo of a person who is taking too long to sell you these drugs. What I'm saying: this is situational music, and the laptop in my office is not the situation.
There are only some artists with so much to say that their debut should be a double LP or CD. This is not one of them. Fine as background but I dont need 100+ minutes of it.
I don't like Electronica. But this did not have high pitched tones that I tend to find irritating. That being said, this grew tedious.
#718. There is entirely too much of this kind of electronica from this book. Honestly this is one of the better ones, but still I have very little desire to sit through this entire thing. 2/5: meh
It was ok
some parts are ok most parts are way too long and boring
It sounds like someone who likes 90s music used GarageBand for the first time. Fav- Kemistry
JUST MAKE THEM SHORTER!!!!
If you really like drum and bass, this album has a lot of that for you. If you don't, well... Some tracks fade into the background nicely, I guess.
2/(
Cacophonous and long. 2.
This is a 3-disc album that could have been a solid .5 discs. Started great, but got repetitive quickly.
¿Me emociona? No. Me es difícil rescatar algún tema que sobresalga.
I actually don't hate drum and bass music- I definitely don't particularly like it but the irritability alot of people express when confronted with this type of music doesn't really hit me. That being said, I thought this album was mostly pretty boring to listen to. Super repetitive, not particularly impressive and way too long.
Generally a fan of the genre, but this stuff is derivative and uninspired. I'll give it two stars because the instrumentation is good, I just don't think they have anything terribly interesting to say. Best guess is another UK act that no one really cares about other than the author.
I just couldn’t find much to be excited about with this album. It was fine as background music, but that’s about it.
very long and very repetitive
There are these moments, that are pretty energetic and make me want to move, but also some, that are baffling in their annoyance. Doesn’t work in most situations, but walking home last night in the rain, it was definitely a mood.
Послухав перший трек, не дуже моя музика, тому буду скіпати.
Almost 2 hours I wish I could get back.
An almost two hour long drum'n'bass album from the mid-90s. I can see why it was influential, but to me it was too repetititve and long without many interesting melodies and songs, only a couple of them were more memorable and enjoyable.
Not really for me, but a couple bits I enjoyed. Would benefit from a reduced run-time.
Ehhh, not for me really. Some parts were cool with headphones but it was a bit of an endurance test to get through it all.
It was fine. Nothing too special
The title track is pretty good, the rest is dross. If you get this album on the list, listen only to the first track.
It's the Sonic the Hedgehog video game soundtrack ... Not really ... but same vibe
I love DnB and I know Goldie is so influential, but having experienced so much since that era that's much more interesting, I can't rate this very high. The album just gets boring as it goes on, never really keeps me engaged.
There's a lot of good in this album, and it is a vibe at times, but man is it too long. I can live with a 20 minute drum and bass track: at least it's interesting, but 2 hours is just too long to be in 90's Drum and bass land
Ugh boring 90’s Edm.
this whole genre of music is supaboring and useless
It's a neg for me. I love a good drum and bass album, but rather than any driving beat or sense of urgency, this felt like bobbing up and down gently in a river but not actually going anywhere. In fact it reminded me, dare I say it, of jazz.
The purpose of this musical style is to create a mood and in my case, the mood it creates is probably not what the artist intended. Listening to this brings to mind the soundtrack of a video game that quite literally gives me a headache within 10 minutes.
Can’t anyone replicate this with a quality 80’s synthesizer? Says something that there are three versions of this album, ranging from 45 to 105 minutes. Thank goodness the vinyl was the shortest!
I quite like this album when it’s firing on all cylinders: there are some really great hypnotic grooves on here. But that runtime is just ridiculous and a lot of the album is also quite boring (Adrift 😴 😴). Therefore, not something I’ll ever return to.
2+ Stars (6/15)
Not really the vibe, good for a long flight to discover a new music genre
Ok let’s get the praise out of the way. Apparently this album pioneered the drums n bass sub genre of electronic music. Very epic. Also, State of Mind and Adrift are okay. I like the jazzy instrumentation on Adrift… yeah that’s it… So what don’t I like about this album? Well, it’s too long. Like way too long. Like you don’t need a 21 minute opener long. Like every song doesn’t need to be an average of 8 minutes long. Like WHY IS IT 2 HOURS long. This was a pain to get through. I wish I could’ve fallen asleep to it (I don’t know what else this album would be for) but that goddamn whistling and whining and distractingly terrible lyricism filled me with a desire to get out of bed and jump into the setting sun. Yeah. This album isn’t great. Can’t remember a single moment that really stood out. Sea of Tears is coincidentally what I was in by the time that 5th track came on. A Sense of Rage for track 7 as well. This album really got me going through the stages of grief.
Eu até que tava gostando no início, a mistura de jungle com drum n bass funcionou bem, mas acho que o disco é longo demais e falta um pouco de foco, as músicas mais agressivas me perderam um pouco
Didn't get through it all, so can't give it a 1, but this isn't my vibe.
Not for me.
Kinda long
Bit long and samey
Too long. Too repetitive. That seems to always be the case with electronic music.
thog dont caare
I thought I was 4-5 tracks in before realizing it was still the first track. I would probably take this off most of the time. It's not terrible, it's just that I don't need this much drum and bass in my life at this point. It's really really really long and doesn't really change. 1.5.
Timeless? I've never been so aware of time's passage. This album is crazy long, with 50% too many tracks, but also every song on it is itself about 50% too long. They also all sound the same, have no melody, and are boring as hell. This was not "actively bad" so I won't give it 1 star, but I was real glad when it was over
I really don't think this is how this music was meant to be consumed. I bet no one even sat through this album in full in it's heyday. Instead you heard tracks from this thing mixed into a DJ set while you're at a rave in Norfolk in 1995, high as fuck and dancing your face off while dressed like a character from Trainspotting as god intended. And i bet that's how Goldie intended it too. He did not intend for me to listen to all 2 hours of this thing while putzing around my kitchen, sober as fuck, not dancing in 2025. It's just not the right way to consume this music... so it's hard to give it a fair rating. I also think having the tracks cut and mixed in with other 90s dance tracks would do a lot to improve the experience. There is a lot of long tracks that are very similar. I bet in a good DJ set these 10 minute tracks get cut down to short 3 minute bursts before transitioning to other songs. I could see how this could be a 5 star experience in the right context... again high as fuck in '95, dancing your face off. But right now... it my current state it's more of a 2 star experience. There are some cool tracks on this thing. The driving break beats are good. It's a good album to work to and sort of get lost in. I do think it's at its best with minimal vocals. There was one track near the start that had a ton of female vocals and i fuckin' hated it... but it was all up from there. It does blur together though... which is fine? The best I can say is after hearing this album I am interested in going to a 90s British rave night. I think that would be a good time. Side note: hideous album cover. 0/5 stars. What were they thinking?
It works as generic corporate background music from the mid 90s. This album makes James Taylor and Jack Johnson edgy.
this is a generous two. this album sounds cheesy, dated, weirdly toneless, and it's about an hour and a half too long. drum & bass... more like DUMB & ASS!!!!!!!!!
well, i went into this THINKING i liked drum n bass... this isn't the worst album i could imagine and has cool parts here and there, but overall is just such a slog to actively pay attention to. for my 21 minutes, i'd rather listen to 2112 or rime of the ancient mariner one and a half times. this is just rough. also why are all the song titles so similar and nondescript? giving it two stars because the album cover makes me think it's a sickass computer game from 1994 favorites: angel, inner city life - baby boy's edit
It really wasn't a drum and bass morning, and honestly this album is three times longer than it needed to be
Not for me
Not my jam
I don't think i have ever gotten so tired after listening to an album but i think Timeless managed to do just that. I only ever knew of this guy because of his connection with Bjork so i had no expectations going in but man, this album really got tiring. This album was just so unbelievably long and repetitive that even while having some good beats and decent ambiance, My enjoyment of this album did feel incredibly hindered by it's long and repetitive nature. I can't in good conscience give this album a 1 due to it having the beats and ambiance that i liked but i still don't think this album is very good. This isn't a bad but i don't think its timeless either. Best Song: Sea Of Tears Worst Song: Adrift
dnf. not my speed but i can see the appeal
Okay album but not my thing. One of the definitions that I came across for timeless is "Having no end; interminable; unending". That's how this album felt to me. Like it would never end. It's just too long. +1 for the artist to be able to maintain focus long enough to cobble together an album that runs for nearly 2 hours. I could listen to 4 to 5 Ramones albums in that time. Sheesh.
In fact it's not timeless, it's very much of its time, and that time has long since gone... But it takes balls to release a double album as your first, and have the opening song be 21 minutes long. I was never a fan of the jungle/drum and bass genre before but after 21 minutes of "Inner City Life/Pressure" I'm absolutely still not.
I can't in good consciousness say I enjoyed this marathon of an album, but I have respect for the impact it had on the Drum & Bass genre and it didn't sound awful. 2/5
All electronic starts to sound the same to me and this one fits right in there. Sounds like a teenage clothing store in the 90's that was trying to tell me it was too cool for me. Nothing is inherently bad, just all starts to go together and sound the same. If I was sitting outside looking at the clouds and maybe a little high this might be great, but this is just not my world so I don't connect with it.
When I was part of the late 90s/early 00s rave scene, I never really felt like I fit in. Mainly because I wasn't sure of myself enough back then to let loose and dance (plus the clothing style was NOT me lol). I felt more like a spectator than a participant. I enjoyed the music and the lights and the people watching though, especially when My Dear Miss Annie was around. Drum and bass, however, was my least favorite sub-genre at the time, and that seems to still hold true today. Today's version of me would totally let loose and dance, but not to this. This music isn't terrible, but it's incredibly repetitive and it's very easy to forget you're even listening to it. Plus this album is painfully long.
I really love EDM and electronic music but this was not my favorite, I'm not the biggest fan of drum and bass but I can see why this was a big deal in that community, again it was a little too long and just wasn't for me
I see the appeal but it's just too damn long. Shame though, lots of cool moments and ideas but there's just so much pointless meandering.
2. Hours.
21 minute song to kick things off, yeesh. Also an almost 2 hour album of pretty similar sounding music (to me at least). Sounds like something you hear in the lobby or spa of an upscale hotel. Not really any need to listen to this by choice. 3.5/10 (1.75/5)
nah
21 minute intro song. Jeeze.
J'ai pas tout écouté (3h30 c'est long) sympatoche mais pas mon style un peu aleatoire en therme de mood
not bad, but not my thing
это диско не для меня
Tapping out early on this one. I left trance music a looooooonnnnnng time ago. In my walkman 2 cd player circa '98 was a trance CD. It was the only one that ever appealed to me and this is no exception. It doesn't move me, make me wanna dance, or relax me, its not engaging. I usually just check out. Some moments of timeless and the entirety of state of mind were worthy of a nod. But the rest of that robotic fast paced bank heist music and is subpar.
Okay for gym music but tedious after awhile and way too much of it in one album.
Two double albums in a row?! Come on… Too long. When I checked in at 20 min, I was sure I was already an hour in. State of Mind 2.5
Dnf cuz i got bored
It, has a few good moments but its not great overall, the songs are too long and could be so much better if they were shorter.
3 de las 10 mejores canciones de uno de los exponentes del Drum&Bass y el Jungle. A ver cómo era su primer disco que no había oído antes. Se me ha echo insufrible, demasiado hasta para mí. Le voy a dar 2 estrellas.
Weird but good
This album might win the award for longest album. In fairness, I probably wasn't in the mood for ...this. I don't think I've ever been so happy to hear the intro to Steven Stills' "Love the One You're With", signifying that I had finished this one. Or maybe Steve was telling me I should've loved Goldie?
According to some opinions, Timeless is a quintessential album in electronic music history, opening doors to many different subgenres. It may be true, but there is one big problem with it - it's not good. Basocally every song had an irritating and a boring beat, that probably might have been outdated back in 90s already. I couldn't feel the atmosphere in this album at all, just anger and boredom. Not so timeless in the end.
I get it, the point is the rhythm. But damn, it just does not stop. Feels like getting trapped in a loading screen with no exit. Some of the ambient, floaty bits were okay, but the majority? Relentless, looping jungle beats that just pound on like a headache with no cure. It's probably great for coding or deep cleaning your garage. Not when I’m trying to actually (actively) listen. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions: - State of Mind - Inner City Life - Baby Boy's Edit
Pretty alright, decent music for concentrating.
Some of the songs were pretty good and trancy. A lot of the songs though were way too drum and bass repetitive beats for my liking. Funny that in my most recent album review I mentioned not liking drum and bass and now this album came up, they were listening. Not a likeable genre at all in my opinion
This is a long boi! This was solid d&b but it was entirely too long. No need for this. On drugs it may have kept me attentive for the length but no way on a Monday. Just insanely repetitive for me.
5/10 I've got a soft spot for Goldie because of my step-dad's love for him, but this is music that needs to be listened to in the right setting to be fully enjoyed. Even then, a song like 'Timeless', which could genuinely be a great song, is undone by the ridiculous length. I'm not sure even Goldie fans are going back and listening to this whole record - I know my step-dad isn't. Obviously a groundbreaking album for DnB/Jungle, and in places it really has stood the test of time, but in others it hasn't aged nearly so gracefully. Not an easy album to get through all in all. Listens: 1
I liked parts of songs here and there, but overall they were too long. I know that's typical with this genre but i just wasn't a fan
Repetitive
Whyyyyy is this 2 hours? This album is the sonic equivalent of “this meeting could have been an email”
The jazzier and atmospheric stuff on this album is really good, but the hectic breakbeat rythm parts just make me nervous. Ambitious and experimental debut record that created whole new genre, but not quite my cup of tea.
Tolerable.
I just can’t get into this genre.
EDM/Electronic music that fades into the background a little too well.
I had never heard this! I certainly listened to the crystal method, and the chemical Brothers. This does feel along those lines. Definitely not something I would listen to often and maybe not ever again.
I love ambient and atmospheric music. Usually, it is immersive or it might provoke some emotions. This album, for me, failed at both points. Not saying that it was a completely stale experience, since I think it has its highs, but they are so infrequent in a 1 hour and 40 minutes listen that the album ends up feeling like background music in its majority, without bing offesinvely bad at leas
Not gonna bother man
2 hr album of dubstep is just ridiculous. Although the beats were a lot better than the sabres of Paradise
Before I was even halfway through this very long self-indulgent project, I knew how I was going to rate this. The first track felt very trance-like and after a while it had me wondering if it would be like this the whole way through. I'm not really a fan of electronic, bass/drums driven music to start and for the most part I can tolerate it, but "Timeless" felt endless, as this is a crazy commitment of time for something so ambient and a background soundtrack. The female vocals gave it substance and kept it listenable and gets the stars for an otherwise non-essential listen.
Couldn't get into it
Not really a fan of Drum and Bass. I find it too different from actually bass and actual drums - those super fast rhythms are jarring and feel so artificial. This is just OK - there is some good stuff here, mostly the vocals.
Not for me
This is a perfect example of something that I’m sure in the right context/setting is great but that context is not at my desk while I’m playing pokemon. Very cool to see where drum and bass originated but thank god artists have been able to make it significantly more interesting as time has gone on. State of mind was great, the sensual vip mix is a crazy track name but also pretty good. One positive is the album does a great job dropping in motifs throughout the mix and call backs to 45 droning minutes ago. Not my thing but a good history lesson.
Yikes I'm not into this. 20 minute 1st song? That's too much. I've for sure listened to little punk rock albums that are shorter than this damn song. Its kinda the epitome of things I dislike. And that's kinda it. I will give it some props for being very dynamic. The songs flow and change and evolve constantly. I thought that would be enough but it wasn't. It's better than most in this genre but it's still not enough for me
Ugh. Another British Electronica. This one is more of an atmospheric thing. Great for being high, or for soundtracking I guess.
Drum and bass is not my cup of tea. I might have appreciated it when I was in my 20s
Had it on as background music while I was working and didn't really pay much attention. Sounds like it was very influential given the mixture of drum & bass/jungle sounds with other styles, so I'm fine with it being in the book but not really my vibe
I am not a very big fan of drum and bass, and this was a very long album. I did finish it though!
-uhhh i did not love this album, def not my genre -it was lowk giving me a headache after a few songs -i did like the song Timeless tho and Inner City Life (Baby Boy's Edit) the best
Boom...Dat...Boom...Datta Dat...Blorp... Beep... Blarp...Narp...
According to Wikipedia this is supposed to be some groundbreaking album. But nothing of this genre appeals to me so big deal. To be honest, this isn't even a good representation of electronic music. The singer on the album had a nice voice I guess.
This is the soundtrack to every game from the 90’s
I was today years old when I discovered that the man who “doesn’t e-raze the bodies, he creates the bodies” from Guy Ritchie’s Snatch, was an actual, real life musician.
Absolutely fucking relentless
It would be a hell of a lot better if it wasn’t so. Fucking. Long. Actually works pretty well as background music, but really doesn’t work as an almost two-hour album. I got bored of this pretty quickly. The title is actually more apt than I expected. It’s tough to place a year on this, has a retro future feeling. Would work well if it was like a quarter of the length.
Too electronic for me I think
Way too long, and boring. At first I thought I could listen to this while running, but it really didn’t inspire movement. I saw another review that said this music is perfect for checking emails, and I think they’re spot on. This is email checking music. Possibly the precursor to lo-fi study beats.
Groundbreaking or not this shit was too long, too repetitive, and turned my brain to mush by the end of it. Could've been worse though. 2.5/5
Timeless sure takes a lot of time to sit through at almost 2 hours of runtime. Why are all these 90s DnB albums so incredibly long? It's dance music you can't really dance to that isn't all that fun to pay your attention to either. There's some nice moments on here and I can see myself putting on a song or 2 from here but as an album it really doesn't work. Adrift is also an atrocity.
2/5. Great background music when gaming but it's not giving enough to keep me interested. There are some otherworldly and spacey moments that make it stand out so it's cool in that aspect. I think I was done about halfway through though because I felt like I might hear more of the same. To be fair, this genre is setup to be repetitive so it might just not be for me. I enjoyed it more than others though so it's not a 1. Best Song: State of Mind, Sea of Birds, Timeless
This triggers my misophonia, it’s almost like 11 minutes of torture every single song. I get it, that if I was on ecstasy in a club in 1995 England it would have been cool and I’m sure it’s important to some people but I don’t like it. These songs give off more of a Heroin Trainspotting vibe, though.
Ummm not my favorite. Too much to listen to at once lol
Nothing about this is interesting to me
Jungle isn't my favourite form of electronica. Nearly 2 hours of chaotic beats made by a former James Bond henchman with ADHD is way too much!
What a long ass album. I enjoy drum and bass in short bouts, not for nearly 2 hours. I started paying less attention and enjoyed it. Standouts: Sea of Tears, Angel, and You & Me.
an electronic album that’s unbearably long. name a more iconic duo
I like electronic music, and I like ambient music. I thought I'd like this one more than I do - I just find it a bit too chaotic for my taste
Kinda vibey
Favorite Track: State of Mind
Idk at least it’s musical. The 21 minute intro was unnecessary.
Hér eru töff móment, en meirihlutinn er svolítið bleh og of margar of langar lúppur. Eigum við að segja rúmur þristur fyrir besta hálftímann og sléttur tvistur fyrir hinar nítíu mínúturnar? 2,4 tótal.
It is so so so NOT my music. Sorry.
The who album could have done with a "short attention span" edit. I liked that last track and the one that ripped of I'm Stronger Now by The Definitive Two. Otherwise, it was dance music you can't dance to and a whole lot of it at that
The fucking gall to have a song called the ‘Short Attention Span Edit’ on an album that is two fucking hours long. No album needs to be 2 hours long. Most films don’t need to be 2 hours long. Timeless’ biggest issue is that it’s genuinely quite boring. So boring that I’m struggling to come up with anything interesting to say about how boring it is. But also not boring enough to really work up any hate for it. It’s the audio equivalent of that joke from Cheers: ‘The opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference.’ ‘Whatever, I don’t care.’
If you think of this as the soundtrack to a PS1 racing game it makes it more tolerable.
Sounds mysterious and nervous when the dnb is actually going. When the drums go away, the soundscape is drawn out and hard to actively listen to. Truly background music with too much excess.
Bruh, the first song 21 minutes
This is pretty timeless if you like those atmospheric mood music tracks that don’t go anywhere but leave you a bit trancelike.
More of the same
Soll das Techno sein?
That's not my taste in music.
Can't say I found this timeless.
Endless.
1-2
Good bits but too cold for me
This was just okay.
Even as an electronic music fan, this album was way too long. I’m also not a big dnb fan.
This album is so long and so inaccessible to a non-D&B head like me. I’m wary of saying it all sounds the same, but to my untrained ear it sure feels that way.
Meh. Didn’t make it very far into this one.
Electronic Dance music generally make for bad albums because they are made for a clubs or bars. I could vibe to this in a small dimly lit cocktail bar but as an album this is just background music. Goldie as an artist has had a impact on the Dance scene of the 90s but that necessarily don't mean that the album made the same impact as the artist. Not bad but not a must listen by any means
Track 1 is 21 minutes long - there is no way I'll end up listening to this entire album. True to form - there were two songs left when I tapped out. I'll allow space in my heart for the idea that maybe those two songs woulda turned this around for me.
Skitters about with abandon, but ultimately this once again falls into the category of PlayStation load screen music.
Nem azzal van a baj, hogy elektronikus, hanem azzal, hogy ez egy szar, és még hosszú is.
nekem kb a Krafwerk a határ elektronikus zenében, ez már igencsak sok volt 🤣 also kétórás album?! 🤯🥴
For it being one of earliest examples of Electronica, it is odd. It's first and title track being 21 MINUTES (!!!) and it mostly being quiet is odd. The rest of the tracks do feel like they belong in a Cyberpunk style RPG as background music, but it definitely something I would pursue outside of doing this list. I'd give it a 3/10.
I have listened to and enjoyed this before a lot. Usually when under the influence... In the cold neon light of the office on a Thursday morning - not sure it had the same impact.
Couldn’t be bothered with this album, first song was good to run to but then listening to the rest got boring very quickly. It’s nearly 2hr long wtf
Somehow you take solid-enough 3 star songs and run them for 2 hours, you get a 2 star album. I don't think this one is super meant to be listened to straight through as an album.
Why was this so long, and was the singer supposed to sound off key? It all blended into one long track, and isn't that exciting to me.
Let me be the "n" th person to point out the irony of this being called "Timeless" when it is quite dated sounding. Far too long; cut down to, say 35 mins, this would be much more digestible. I quite like the long opening track, but it all sounds a bit coffee shop these days; odd to think this felt groundbreaking at one point.
Mostly background music.
Inner City Pressure. This might have been good when this came out, but it is most definitely not "Timeless".
Clinical and heavily machined and here-and-there interesting but way out-of-place anywhere but a club (and – let's be clear – a club in the late '90s), plus oh so soulless, indeed soulless to an extent that the ambition and innovation are undercut. Way too long (thanks '90s production excess). Utterly ill-named, too, as this is as dated as dated can be, thanks largely to drum machines. One seriously questions the historical staying power of dnb.
This album is called Timeless, but I think they meant to say “Time, less” as in the less time spent with this, the better! I understand this is a foundational album for jungle/drum’n’bass, but it’s really not my thing. Maybe if I was into Ecstasy…? 2⭐️
Not awful, but wouldn't listen again.
I expected to hate this. Instead it kinda just passed me by. Long but fine.
Aight
Interesting but not something I’m going to sit and actively listen to. Background music at best.
Boring.
In summary... I don't get it... seems like basic bog standard dnb, but with the added negative of being even more repetitive and long winded than normal. Prob just not my genre in its full form tbf, preferring just short incursions into the style.
Too long
I'm sure it did a lot for the music world, but it did nothing for me. Those dated vocals can go suck it.
Not completely unlistenable like some on here would make it out to be. I do really find that style from the 90s where they had house music playing and a female singing monotonously over the instrumentals really annoying. And boy was it waaaaay longer than it had any right to be. 2/5
Not very good, pretty odd honestly. A 21 minute song is a bit much, especially considering how below average the music is.
They call it ground-breaking I call it head-breaking They call it a double album I call it way too f***ing long They call it drum and bass I call it hum-drum and base They can call it anything they like I will never recall it again
I can hear the meticulous effort and time that went into this recording. My recurring thought as I listened is that it would drive me completely insane to have to listen to this over and over and over in a studio to get all the details together. I've said it before, but to whomever this music speaks, good on you. It's little more than annoying noise to me. I'm past the point of trying to hear it any differently.
I was enamored with jungle for about a week and a half back in the late '90s. Then I realized it was boring. Why so much electronic music on this damn list?
An absolute slog this. Good lord. The remixes. Not my thing at all. Willing it to be done
I can see why this is a good album in its field but I just found it hard and boring and loooooong. The drums just sound the same on 90% of the songs
Painful, literally gave me a headache. Confirmed I’m definitely not a techno fan.
This was a tough slog. I've no taste for drum & bass. Let's move along please.
This Is a Bad
01) Timeless - 6,5 02) Saint Angel - 5,5 03) State Of Mind - 6,0 04) This Is A Bad - 5 0 05) Sea of Tears - 6,0 06) Jah The Seventh Seal - 5,0 07) A Sense Of RageS (Sensual V.I.P mix) - 6,0 08) Still Life - 5,0 09) Angel - 5,0 10) Adrift - 5,0 11) Kemistry - 5,0 12) You And Me - 5,0 13) Inner City Life (Baby Boy's Edit) - 6,0 14) Inner City Life (Rabbit's Short Attention Span Edit) - 5,5 TOTAL: 5,46 (55/100)
some decent vibes but waaaaay too long
Would have given this a three stars it's totally average, but given it's excessive length I have to take off another star
If this album was 45 minutes long, I might well be lording this as one of the great finds of this project. It would have really resonated with me. But this feeling soon passes by and makes you feel like you’re stuck on a really frustrating level on a PS1 game - some sort of secret underground room in Metal Gear Solid. It just goes from great to frustrating 2.4
this album was way too long man, it was hard to get through the whole thing, the 20 minute intro was a challenge too, a lot of it sounded the same and really basic sounding, i would really recommend it
More tiresome techno, although i guess it's techniquely 'drums n bass' as he uses some different sounds on his computer than pure techno...". Overly repetitive, too long, could really use some vocals to keep up some interest. It could almost pass as ok chill music, but the drumns n bass aren't really chill.
Like a lot of the other reviewers, I think your enjoyment of this is based on context. The less formulaic stuff sounds great while riding the exercise bike, for instance. But for me EDM with vocals can be grating if not done correctly though. And it is apparently really hard to do correctly. There's a jarring dissonance between the structured artificiality of the synth and a human voice. It feels like a cop-out every time I hear something like this with a female soul singer layered on top. It's like the artist has some idea about "dance music" and throws the vocals on. Gives it more soul? In theory this should be brilliant but there's a competition for attention, and eventually the lack of focus is annoying.
I appreciate that Goldie has taken the genre of drum n Base and elevated it with vocals and instrumentation but I will not be revisiting this album as I find it a little tricky to enjoy.
Ain't got time for this mate. Go make another Bond movie and spare us 20 minute drum and bass operettas
First time listen to this artist. I like the genre of music this album made its place in: edm drum&brass etc. this didn't appeal to me whatsoever
It was extremely long. For a drum n bass record, it was ok I guess. Nothing impressive.
I wanted to like this, but just can't get into the repetitive nature of this. Some of the tracks with lyrics were better to me, but I found it very had to get into and can't see listening to this again.
Did not finish not list worthy but it didn't hurt my ears so I'll be nice and give a 2
Just not my thing. Repetitive and very long, just became easy to not pay attention while listening. 2/5 Won’t listen again
The title track is good but like everything else, at least twice as long as it needed to. The rest, that I could bear is self-indulgent twaddle.
Brutally long. Not for me or anyone else who doesn’t like hearing the same thing over and over again for an average of seven minutes and an at worst of 21 minutes.
I lack the patience for this, while competent and has a nice sound it is not something I feel compelled to listen to again and have trouble finishing it on the first listen
i can't tell why this is distinguishable from other D&B besides it being first or early or something?
Man, what a bit of a disappointment. Loved the album cover, loved the Wikipedia description, OK, i thought, this would be an ace discovery for my music collection, but it just didn't land for me. Neither did other albums of Goldies. I listened around. Hopeful. I was dreaming for an artist a bit more like Massive or Big Audio Dynamite, and this wasn't that. Disappointed. 2 stars. Not hated, not liked..
The fact that this was my final boss battle to fully catch back up with the list was absolutely sickening. BA DUM BA DUM BA DUM DUM BUM BA DUM. I don’t even know the proper verbiage to use to explain the noises that filled my ears. But those kicks all sounding super similar on every song was so aids man. Honestly if I was playing need for speed or something this album might slap. Or maybe Tokyo at night. What am I doing with my life right now?
I am being transported to another dimension here. I just finished reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and this album feels like that book, so unique and random. It is very kenny G in the second half. Not so much DNB its so soulful and jazzy which weirds me out. The second half is more trance with light light DNB elements it just is ambieance. Not that fun and a little droney. I enjoyed the expereince as much as one enjoys hearing car traffic not much but gives a sense of perspective. When you ask me to be patient and nothing happens I feel worse listening and it doesnt help that the songs kept stopping because wifi is bad.
Early electronic that was pretty dull but for the time I think it held its own vibe
Slow moving electronica that has some tracks that are over 20 minutes. Simply not my thing. Not unlistenable, but won’t try this again. 2/5
Endless
This music bugged me, 2 songs 2 stars
Not my kind of music. Something jarring about the style that grates
Good new age/ alternate group/singer.
I tried with this one, and I have NO DOUBT it was as influential as it claims to be, but listening to this now, nearly thirty years later, all I can think of is "this album looks like an WinAmp skin and sounds like the kind of music a WinAmp skin would make if it could make music."
"Oh, no, it sounds alright, mate, but it sounds a bit like Goldie." This quote says it all really. But let me add... I was surprised how repetitive this was. And so long! 1hour 53 minutes!? I know quite a few tracks without having listened to the album before. I guess it was everywhere at the time. It's okay as background music, I guess, but it's a bit boring. I'm marking it down from a 3 to a 2 just because I can't really see myself listening to it again.
I like this genre, but this was a miss for me.
Undanceable
Drum and Bass. Liked the first song albeit it lasted for 20 mins. Everything else after sounds the same
Absolutely not timeless. Generic garbage. 1.5/5
Drum and bass, not exactly my kind of jam. Angel and State of Mind were decent tracks, the rest was just 'there'. And boy, did the album go on and on and on and on! Okay background music while working, but nothing I would put on just to listen to.
3 / 10 Música electrònica de los 90, pasada de moda. Parece que ha querido meter todos los sonidos que había descubierto, sin ningún sentido.
If This Is Spinal Tap had been made in the 90's it would have been about this album.
I’m shaking my head no
Generic 90s EDM without anything resembling a redeeming feature. 1.5/5
There were some really nice melodies on this album.
Puh. Zum Ein- und Durchschlafen ganz gut geeignet. Aber nicht der Hit.
didnt really feel like top 1000
What a silly album. The drums were great, but the rest was bleh at best. Makes the drumming seem less than when the rest of the parts aren't great. Just not something you would choose to put on in the background or to listen to actively.
Meh, extremely repetitive and not great
Maybe I need some molly to enjoy this. Why are albums like this so long? I'm ok with monotony if it's going somewhere, but a two hour album seems a bit much. Ultimately, just not my bag.
Oh dear. Well, I get why this is on here because it was influential in drum and bass. But my god, nearly 2 hours of this stuff? Absolutely no need. I was willing it to be over by the end
Meh. Underwhelming for a long album. Soft Prodigy. Like a Moby.
His first album is a DOUBLE album? Two albums of this? And every song just goes on and on and on. Some of them have obvious breaks in them which I guess you can call movements. But I shouldn't look at a song and think "10 minutes?!". It shouldn't be a chore. The music itself is okay, but every song just went on WAY too long and was way too repetitive. Next.
No, no, no. Almost 2 hours of "drum and bass". That's a bit much. He should've stopped after disc one, which was already about an hour. It's not the worst thing I've ever heard, but I don't need 2 hours of it. And honestly, after a few songs I was kind of done with it because it just felt like the same thing over and over. I had to quit the double album version after 10 of 14 songs. And the only reason my rating isn't lower is because the single album version has 4 fewer songs and I might've made it through that one.
this is 2 hours of mid 90s drum and bass. i did not finish it.
HOW DOES IT JUST KEEP GOING? WHY WON'T IT END? WHY WOULD ANYONE EVER NEED TO LISTEN TO 2 FUCKING HOURS OF DRUM AND BASS WHY WHY WHY 3/10
It's on the minimal side; has some features of electronic I enjoy, but not breaking into favorite album territory. I couldn't believe how long the first track went on for, and every track thereafter. I generally enjoy this type of music, but this just went on too long. Again, not a 1001 thing you should listen to before you die, not missing anything by not listening to this. 2* Skipped the last 2 edit tracks in the end, I was done. Daft Punk's 'Around the world' is less repetitive than this.
I’m sure it was groundbreaking
Maybe this record is ahead of its time? Songs are to long and go nowhere in my opinion
It has its moments, but this is just too freaking long. A 20-minute opening track pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the album. Desperately needed to be whittled down.
The good parts were good (and not DnB), and I suppose early for that. Maybe I've only heard this before by the good bits being sampled since.
If this album was an hour shorter I might like it. I appreciate it for what it is though and can see how it is considered a great album in its genre.
i’m sorry i don’t really know what’s supposed to be good about this
stopped listening around song 3
"So you think maybe you'll be a prostitute Just to pay for your lessons, you're learning the flute The ladies wouldn't pay you very much for this Looks like you'll never be a concert flautist You don't measure up to the expectation When you're unemployed there's no vacation No one cares, no one sympathizes You just stay home and play synthesizers" A very far cry from its name, this album becomes grating after just three tracks, which surprisingly cover half an hour of the record. But that's not even the best part...it's two hours long! Yay!
I gave up on this around track 9. It has it's moments. It's not bad background music if you want to feel like a 90s hacker, but I listened to enough of it to know that it's not for me.
this gave me a big headache. the bass is also creepy
Not really my speed
Timeless? Seemed more like Endless. It took me the first eight songs (72 minutes on an elliptical) to finally figure out electronica. It’s the new and improved version of “tune-up” jazz for the neXt generation. Wow, these songs are long and repetitive, rep, rep, rep, rep, repetitive, repetitive… (2.1*s)
If I could give it less than 1 star I would.
This album surprised me, although not timeless, it's pretty decent (it's definitely stuck in the 90's). Good beats, good mix of sounds, good ambients. I liked the female vocals too. However, a lot of the songs are repetitive with no real standouts. It was good as background music while working.
I love electronica and got into it in early high school with Chemical Bros and Crystal Method. Bought a lot of mix cds too and my least favorite of the genre was always the break beat. Too spastic and so repetitive. Others like house or trance have the same beat for almost every song but meld better with the whole delivery. Break beat sounds too out of place. Just never been my fav.
I would consider myself a passive fan of electronic music but I've never heard of Goldie. A mix of groovy beats and sensual electronica. I was pleasantly surprised by this album as I didn't know what to expect going in. Reminded me of Aphex Twin, Oakenfold and others. It's way longer than it needs to be and starts to feel a little redundant, but I found myself enjoying the majority of it. 2.3 stars
doesn't quite reach the depths of kraftwerk but I only barely didn't hate this
This wasn't terrible, but it all felt the same.
C- Timeless 2 Saint Angel 2 State Of Mind 3 This Is A Bad 2 Sea Of Tears 2 Jah The Seventh Seal 2 A Sense Of Rage (Sensual V.I.P. Mix) 2 Still Life 2 Angel 2 Adrift 2 Kemistry 1 You & Me 2 Absolute dog sh**.
Between this and the LTJ Burkem compilation I got a few days ago, I've come to the realization that I just don't like jungle or drum n' bass. Sure, I can recognize merits in the genres and figure why people would like them, but for me... Nah. Not me. I mean, it just says something to me that the only track I really liked and devoted a good portion of my attention to was the third track from the first disc, which was the only one to me that didn't sound like drum n' bass. (It's for that reason, in fact, why I'm not recycling the review I gave for LOGICAL PROGRESSION like I'd honestly planned to. Believe me, though, with that **TWENTY MINUTE** nothing of a title track and opener I very easily could have.) End of the day, I just hope there aren't too many of these left on the list, if there are even anymore at all.
Completely competent drum and bass that I listened to while doing my morning routine. Just a 2.
Couple of decent-ish tracks but as someone who really likes some Dn'B , I dont understand the legendary status of this record. Also, Goldie is a horrible human being.
Era of ecstasy you needed to be on it to get it…I guess 2/5
Not very memorable. Some of the breaks were nice, but I can’t imagine putting this on
Took me a while to click Goldie is the same Goldie who was a bit of a Z list celebrity back in the 00’s, shocked he actually had an album that made the list. After listening to the album, I’m still shocked this album is on the list.
Listened Before? N Interesting and vibe-y at first, but gets old quick. Not sure why this is here. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Angel
Went in completely blind to this project and did not expect what I was going to hear. Not a fan of long albums so my interest wasn’t sustained. It put me to sleep - which isn’t necessarily a criticism.
I felt this album was a pretty 'meh' experience. I get how it 'totally changed the face of drum and bass' but sounds pretty dated now. Also as a 2 hour album it massively drags.
Really felt like the soundtrack to a 80's techno thriller. As a standalone album, didn't grab me.
Not for me
HOW FUCKING LONG WAS IT??
Just too long. Not repetitive enough to put on a background working music. Not interesting enough to just listen to. It may be a clinic of drum and bass music but that doesn't make it enjoyable
It’s fine I guess? Very repetitive and most of the songs sound like all the other songs. I lost track.
Très long. C'est électronique et ça bouge mais à part ça c'est moyen comme album même pour ce type. 2.75
There are no individual songs that I specifically hate. The drum and bass genre is just way too repetitive for my liking. Especially for an album that falls just shy of 2 hours. It feels like there's a ton of fat that should have been trimmed off this album. I would've enjoyed my time listening to it a lot more if it was like 30 mins long.
Could have been about half as long. Sounds to me like the EDM version of a jam band.
Can’t believe the dude from snatch is a DJ
90 min of electronic music is not my thing
- I would be lying if I said I listened to all 1 hour and 53 minutes of this thing - It's great background music - The songs were completely okay but it's nothing I could sit down and deeply listen to - 2.5, rounding down cuz nothing needs to be this long
- OG DnB album? - it’s interesting - not really anything that I enjoy listening to
Was fine but so long
Not my genre but cool
