Reviews (page 3 of 7)

Wow. There are so many reasons why I should have thought this was too smooth, too proggy, and should have disliked this album, but I didn’t. The songs are super clever and play with their own structure. The lyrics are actually funny, which bands can often hit the mark on. Overall, a really fun album.

A really good, fun album with a great variety of tracks.

Dilla sample lol Never heard of this album or this band before but im happy to say I really really enjoyed this project. Super fun and unique album They're like a goofier version of Yes or The Beatles Fav Tracks: The Wall Street Shuffle The Worst Band In The World Hotel Silly Love Somewhere In Hollywood Oh Effendi Least fav: none this album is great

no way it's the song fun album mayb 8/10

A great pop rock record that definitely knows how to parody some of the trends of the time but also be a surprisingly very fun and at times even a bit relaxing listen. From the straight rockers like The Worst Band in the World and Silly Love to the more pop-centric and quirky tracks like Clockwork Creep and The Sacro-Ilaic, there's a bit of variety here without feeling out of place.

A wild sound for 1974! I would've guessed closer to the 90s. Honestly this was fresh to listen to.

They definitely went all out on the weirdness. It mostly works.

10cc Sheet Music 76.99 The Wall Street Shuffle(84) The Worst Band In The World(84) Hotel(67) Old Wild Men(84) Clockwork Creep(71) Silly Love(71) Somewhere In Hollywood(76) Baron Samedi(71) The Sacro-lliac(76) Oh Effendi(82)

It’s wacky but I’ve listened to it a few times and really enjoyed parts of it. Nice to have something completely different but they could also write a good hook to be fair.

Just for the J Dilla sample. So cool to hear where those originate. 3 For the rest of the album - typical brit rock.

I actually weirdly like this. It’s all over the place, and some strange songwriting, but every song on this was an enjoyable listen. A 4 star rating in my rating system is for albums I enjoyed and would come back to again, and this certainly fits that criteria.

This is fun and creative in a mid-1970s kind of way. There's probably only the one 10cc song that I really knew before, so I enjoyed hearing what else they had to offer. It was a good time!

To be honest, I was surprised to see an album by 10cc on this list and then I was surprised to hear this album by 10cc. Unexpected and fun!

J Dilla jumpscare on the 2nd track, always fun to hear the original from a sample you've heard a million times. As a whole though it's actually a really fun listen, great balance of catchy pop/rock songs with some slightly more experimental stuff. Sticks around for a cool 40 minutes and is done.

Such a cool album. Really grew on me. It’s like a 1970s Ween.

Very avantgarde for the time. A great mix of professional musicians and oddballs trying to change the paradigm.

Ooooo, very cool album so far. Kinda retro british rock, but, COOL? compared to the last album. Yesterday's album had a tiny bit of The Beatles vibes.

This was surprisingly goofy and fun

Did not have high expectations for this album considering all of the mid-tier 60/70/80s music that I have experienced so far in this list. What started as a pleasant surprise lead to me discovering what seems to be a hidden gem. Baron Samedi and Oh Effendi aren't just fun song titles to say, but sound like they should be classics you hear on throwback radio daily. Wish every album on the list was this surprisingly satifsying. 4/5 or 86/100

It felt weird and kinda experimental but I really liked it!

album four the wall street shuffle: 4/5 the worst band in the world: 4.5/5 hotel: 5/5 old wild men: 3.5/5 clockwork creep: 4/5 silly love: 4/5 somewhere in hollywood: 4.5/5 baron samedi: 3/5 the sacro-iliac: 3.5/5 oh offendi: 4/5 this one was very fun, i’m very glad i decided to listen to it. the problem i’ve been facing with other projects is that they feel way too long for me, so this was honestly a breath of fresh air favorite: hotel or somewhere in hollywood

What a great band 10cc are! This is a marvellous album, with the first two and the last couple of songs in particular highlights. It sags slightly in the middle, and for me, they're a band who will almost (I'm Not In Love excepted) engender respect and admiration rather than love. There's a tiny bit of emotional heft missing from their songs that stops this technically excellent band getting into the five star realm.

Nothing expected from this one but, i don't know how, but 10 things simultaneously somehow works, either this is a luck or maybe these things come to mind on LSD, acid or something(i don't know). Favourite song(s): "The Wall Street Shuffle", "The Worst Band in the World", "Hotel", "Clockwork Creep" laughed at this one. Side One 5/5. Side Two 3/5. Overall i wanted to give this 5/5, but side one was much better than side two. At the end i'm gonna give this project solid 4+/5.

This was an interesting album. I see why it isn’t super popular, but they were kinda ahead of their time.

The closest thing I've heard to this might be Of Montreal, or early Queen, or... I don't know, maybe some other 2000s indie pop kinda stuff, maybe a little Steely Dan? It's an interesting one for sure, particularly for when it came out, so I think it deserves the 4. I'll probably be coming back to this soon.

Interesting album! Never heard before, but I was hooked with the first song. I really liked their funky and a bit odd melodies. The song was also interesting, reminding me in some ways about Supertramp. I think the album held up all the way through, and they managed to distinguish themselves enough from other rock to hold their own! The only lame thing was their juvenile band name, which gets old instantly.

Really liked this one! Fun band.

Really enjoyed this one, gave me energy. I like that they are self aware and some of the lyrics cracked me up. They don't take themselves seriously and the music is good.

This is pretty fun stuff.

Liked this

7.7/10 really great highlights but some mediocre, bland, and uninspired lowlights.

So weird, but so great. Equal parts disco, rock, prog, weird lyrics. Great guitar parts, never dull. Super fun and interesting.

December 24th, 2023 HL: “The Worst Band in the World”, “Hotel”, “Wall Street Shuffle”, “Clockwork Creep” Musically, it’s a smorgasbord of forward-thinking bops. Lyrically it contains some stuff that could just as easily be left behind in 1974.

А вот это понра, даже для меня 4+

I was not prepared for this. I knew virtually zero about 10cc beyond their yacht rock hits. Whoah. This is like Nilsson and Donald Fagen dropped acid and decided to write a prog-leaning, occasionally Caribbean flavored Broadway show, then grabbed a big bag of weed, hired Sparks as their backing band and hit the studio. Super weird, yet oddly compelling!

that good ol' rock

This was so silly and fun. A cool surprised since I've never listened to this band before. When I was talking outside listening to this album I felt like I was in a movie. I especially love The Wall Street Shuffle.

Pop and experiment in the exact right amount to not be annoying and still be a very good listening session.

4/5 No bangers, but incredible sound.

Pop imaginatiu, creatiu, innovador, valent. 10cc és una d'aquelles bandes minoritàries i poc recordades que agrada tenir com a secret a conservar. A més aquí es troba un dels seus millors temes, 'The Wall Street Shuffle'

This was an interesting listen. I hadn't heard of the band, found the music fun. Some of the riffs were very catchy, and very "cool" I'm not sure where to rate them between 3-5....four it is I suppose. But doesn't feel right. Give it a listen for yourself

Strange but fun album

Liked it, not particularly my style but definitely can see connections to some other bands!

If Queen made a yacht rock album, it would sound something like this. It shas a lot of variation. For the most part it's good. The not so good parts are short. Favorite song: worst band in the world.

Ändå vibes?

Pretty damn close to a five. It's weird in a way that I like. I'll probably love these songs more with time. The vocals are nice as well. I'm not very good at writing reviews. My favourite songs were Somewhere in Hollywood, Clockwork Creep, and The Sacro-Iliac.

Every member plays a shit ton of instruments, they all sing lead and you never know exactly what to expect around any corner when listening to a 10cc record. They are just delightfully weird and intriguing. Especially “Old Wild Men” and “Somewhere In Hollywood” are gorgeous. And let’s not forgot that one part of the quartet is called Lol Creme. How great is that!?

Je comprends pas pourquoi c'était aussi bien, c'est peut être la fatigue qui parle

This was fun. I might go back to this in time.

good length, better than expected. nice guitar parts, has elements of what I like in music, also feels slightly classy? hotel is the only bad song. the worst band in the world.

Ekki þeirra besta plata, en drullugóð.

What I liked I really liked

I loved many of the songs, but there were a few that brought it down - overall definitely enjoyable

This is a crazy romp. A crazy romp through the woods with four crazed musicians. I loved so much of this. It was really well done. If you’re feeling dazed or disoriented, I won’t blame you, because I felt dizzy from vertigo from some of these tracks! But they’re really well done. Nothing is ever bad. It’s all really engaging and some genuinely breakthrough sounds. And it wasn’t so parodic as to be annoying. Maybe it’s because I didn’t listen to the lyrics (?) but I unexpectedly loved it. I’m not sure if I’ll return to it anytime soon, but its impression will hang around. 4/5

Clockwork Creep carried.

I feel I’ve heard of the band 10cc before, but I’m unsure where and also don’t know if I have actually heard anything by them. Saying that, I might just be thinking of MarioKart races rather than the band. I’m not sure. Let’s listen and find out! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Hotel, The Worst Band In The World This was quite the delight. The music reminded me a bit of ELO with its prog pop tendencies, while also giving a dash of Queen vibes with the harmonising vocals. I enjoyed this album from front to bad. There were no songs I felt were skippable and I had a great time listening. The guitar playing is interesting and somewhat unconventional at times which I enjoyed, and the song structures often kept me guessing without being too jarring.

Highly entertaining and diverse in style Highlights: Hotel, Clockwork Creep, Silly Love

I really liked most of this, and would love it if it weren't for the very dated and problematic lyrics in some of the songs. But overall it's a really fun album with lots of musical twists and turns.

Very good album. Reminded me of something like Steely Dan + Frank Zappa. I had never heard of it, and liked the whole thing. 4.25/5

Well, this certainly sounds like the 70's...

Its weird and quirky lyrics made me very happy. This album is probably not for everyone, but it was definitely what I needed today.

да не дерьмовые ребята) На самом деле очень разнопланово все звучит + довольно емкий и короткий альбом

Второй трек в этом альбоме называется "The Worst Band In The World": ирония - это круто. Была идея, что это "Ah! vous dirai-je, maman", которая потом стала "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star". Но не совсем.

я в начале даже был готов 5-ку ставить, так уж ЭНЕРГИЧНО. но со временем стало просто хор, так что за начало маленький плюсик учтется

Some is little bit corny, but overall really outstanding writing and musicianship. I loved it!

Oh, deze was goed! ga ik zeker nog luisteren

Super divertido, me ha gustado bastante. "The worst band in the world", "Clockwok creep", "Baron Samedi", "The sacro-iliac" o "Oh Effendi" son las canciones que más me han gustado. El sonido es muy bueno, da gusto escuchar grabaciones de 1974 que suenan así. Un descubrimiento de esta lista.

Great album, 10cc is always a change of pace and they’re style in this album is still fantastic and hole up with their simple yet out of the box songs

Very interesting sound but I'm into it. You can tell that they were really using their creativity for this. Overall, I enjoyed it. Fave track(s): Clockwork Creep, Silly Love

The leadoff track made me believe my preconceptions, that this was a standard 70s Bad Company/"Life in the Fast Lane" type rock. That fell apart immediately as the album turned more and more into very unique art pop. Very good listen.

very good album, hidden gem and would like to listen more!

This is camp

Hmm, not sure where I sit with this as I listen for the first time. Was just thinking, don't really get these, seems like sub-prog rock without really going for it, same as how I feel about most Steely Dan I've heard so far. Then Hotel came on and my ears pricked up, ideas all over the place. Probably headphones are necessary. But then you do also hear the ouch racist lyrics. Also this brought home the very obvious influence they had on the band Field Music, who I like, and who I particular appreciate for their adventurousness, so perhaps I should like this? Ah... Godley and Creme are from this band. Not that I'm mad on any of their songs particularly either, though. But, based on one listen - and after the first two songs left me stone cold - I'm coming down on the side of enjoying this. I like people to try stuff. My god, Field Music sound so much like these, especially on the first album or so. However as the album goes on I can also hear Surf's Up/Smile era Beach Boys and Briand Wilson's influence too. Yep, a winner. Faves, Somewhere in Hollywood

10cc have such an interesting sound and a huge amount of range to their style. The jaunty narratives of this album were so good.

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: The worst band in the world, Clockwork creep

Not as good as the album Original Soundtrack (I own on vinyl), but still a good and fun album with unique themes

Music to listen to on the beach if you’re into voodoo and Paul McCartney in Wings era music. Surprising and very pleasant. Each song seemed to keep me on my toes as to what to expect

Catchy and fun, creative arrangement and instrumentation. Love art pop. Feel like Of Montreal can be tied back to this influence. Goldilocks level of progginess. Great sense of play (if your disc is slipping, do the sacro-iliac) great stuff. 4 stars.

This is like the cornball eccentricity of Sparks amped up to 100, and I rate it quite a bit. It definitely skirts the border of downright insanity but on the whole this absolute stylistic riot really appeals to me. Would definitely listen again.

The keywords here are creative, distinctive, fun, memorable, and timeless. I am very happy to have listened to this.

Fun quirky pop

Great album. Quite a distinctive style.

Cool album. Always liked 10CC since the 70s.

Niiiiiiiice. I enjoyed the eclectic mix. Some very random songs and I am here for it.

Interesting listen, cool

Funny wacky outrageous. Good quality and well done. Catchy at points. Some times it’s a little much with how much they switch up songs and add that prog component. I liked it but I didn’t 10/10 love it to the extreme

Rock. Interesante.

Whoa, a welcome surprise! I thought I recognized this band name, and it's because of "Worst Band in the World." A fantastic, groovy song given eternal life by J Dilla. If you haven't heard "Workinonit," here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nO7IA1DeeI Go listen to these two tracks back to back for a masterclass on the art of sampling. Anyway, back to the album. I really, really dug this. Obviously rooted in the sort of rock that was popular in the '70s, but it's much more artsy and exploratory. Lots of unusual styles and sounds at play, references to the likes of Baron Samedi. These guys remind me of Queen at a few points on here, and this was a couple years before Queen's Night at the Opera. I was very impressed with this one. It didn't quite maintain the momentum and excitement throughout that it built for me in just the first few tracks (if any album could do that, it'd be an instant 5), but there are gems all over this thing, whether it's just a bizarre instrumental or a song about selling your mother and buying another. I would love to get some more from these guys to see what else they accomplished. Favorite tracks: Worst Band in the World, Wall Street Shuffle, Somewhere in Hollywood, Hotel, Clockwork Creep, Baron Samedi. Album art: Really clever design here. The titular sheet is a bedsheet, somehow being pulled from the border of the cover into the inset band photo. I'm telling you, if you're gonna do a band photo, doing something cool and creative like this. This one is super memorable. 4.5/5

there's some weak spots, like old wild men, but i switch from having a good time to loving it when clockwork creep hits. oh effendi is a great closer, i hear the future echoes of thundercat. as an album, reminds me of of montreal, and i almost want to say it's a more accessible entrypoint to weird rock like frank zappa

Clever in a very 70s way.

This is was a pleasant surprise. More interest than I would have thought.

Super fun!

5/11/2022 - ALBUM #105 Today's Album: "Sheet Music" by 10cc - This is an album that does something kind of different and in my opinion, it pays off well. It seems like throughout the project, there really is no consideration by the group to seem serious or to hold anything back. This album is goofy and it takes pride in it, which I think pays off in a really positive way. The first song The Wall Street Shuffle is really great straightforward rock track, but its apparent not to far into the track that the band is going to play a lot with song structure. The clear lead vocal sounds really great throughout the whole project and when they reach a higher register or falsetto, I get a lot of beach boys vibes out of it. The instrumental performances are all very lively and make the whole album feel super full of personality with pretty consistent mood switch ups and beat changes. The choruses are usually pretty attention grabbing and although the lyricism can get super cheesy at moments, it all sort of adds to this carefree attitude and ends up feeling more creative than cringe. The production is also really nice with everything feeling really balanced in the mix and there's a lot of fun stuff they do with the channeling on many of the tracks. I will say that with the way the band switched up tracks so much, it does sometimes feel like you're waiting through some weaker moods to get to the really great-sounding parts, but there is still a really solid overall flow to the record. I can't emphasize enough just how goofy and funny some of the lyrics are on this record. I like the track The Worst Band In The World for it's really creative choruses. I think everything about this record is a double edged sword, where the loose song structure and goofy lyricism both elevate this album to something that stands out and has a lot of personality, but it also hurts the album by making it feel disjointed and amateurish. It can be fun to shove a lot of ideas into these tracks, but it really takes away from some of these fantastic melodies when it changes ideas so much and it turns me away from really loving any of these tracks. Fortunately, the instrumental proficiency and sonic experimentation elevate this project a lot and I only rarely find myself getting bored. Overall, there are a lot of really fun melodies and personality-filled lyricism and the vocals and instruments support all of the ideas in a really cohesive way. Definitely a disorienting listen at first, but listen to this one if you like the goofier parts of the Beach Boys or just want something different and you'll have a good time. Highlights: The Wall Street Shuffle, The Worst Band In The World, Hotel, Oh Effendi Score: 7/10 Goofy and not taking itself too seriously, but super fun!

Not my favourite 10cc stuff, but gee, they're having a lot of fun here aren't they?

dad loved it

"Sheet Music" is a very competent rock album by 10cc, a relatively underrated band that, in fact, did some of the best art rock songs of the 1970s. A very creative group of musicians that explored each others creativity generated a set of tracks that are always worth the listening, because of it's freshness decade later. "The Wall Street Shuffle" and "Silly Love" are quintessential 1970s rock.

Good album fun.

Definitely an experimental and enjoyable album for its time. A very clever group.

All I knew about the band was the urban legend of their name, so I had no expectations. What an album. This sounds just so unique and different from what else was going on around the time. It feels like if you released this album today, it would do quite well since the music sensibilities just seem so modern. Kinda reminds me a bit of when Paul McCartney would go full on silly. 4.5/5

Devo dire che mi ha stupita. Mi è piaciuto, è un mix di generi diversi e costantemente diverso.

7/10 pretty creative!

8/10. I liked this.

Odd but fun. 7/10

Another comment captured this album perfectly by calling it a kitchen sink. There's so much going on in each song they get somewhat lost. I didn't hate it, but it started to exhaust me with all the changes.

Very cool band. Good mix of pop and experimental.

Awesome

I have never heard of this band prior to this, as such, this album was my first impression of this band's tuneful, piano-tinged pop rock, with opening track Wall Street Shuffle sounding redolent of Cream's Layla. That being said, the keys, organs, vocal effects and groovy drums that go from danceable to quietly menacing, made for a captivating listen. While 10cc had all the sonic trappings of a rock band, the liberal uses of keyboards, sonic effects and varying vocal styles made it hard to pin them down to a specific sound or even era. (70s psych/art rock.....of course.) The track 'Hotel' features ahead-of-its-time sound effects, all at once hypnotic and bewildering, only to suddenly morph into some weird Rumba-lite track with bongos and maracas. Batshit crazy stuff, and I can't stop. To this uneducated writer, the 70s was about Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan, and one cannot help but wonder why a band like 10cc did not receive more hype and respect for Sheet Music.

Tailed off a bit at the end but strong lyrics on most of the tracks.

This one feels like it deserves a deeper dive. Zany, creative, and fun, it feels like a weird mix of very dated mid-70's rock tropes and super fresh, genius ideas. It definitely grew on me as I listened.

How many possible co-writing duos can the "Worst Band in the World" have: There are four of them so... 4C2 = 4!/(2!*(4-2)!) = 4!/(2!*2!) = (4*3)/2 = 6 Six pairings of Stewart, Gouldman, Godley, Creme. In just a bit more than thirty minutes, these guys went wild with the sounds of pop/rock during that time. All of the six pairings produced at least one song (Creme and Godley seem to like each other a lot, though). And with such sparse and hit-and-miss process, it's unsurprisingly a messy album. And is "Sheet Music" a shit music? Well, yes. But I think that's part of the show. Take note that they admitted being the worst band in the world. This wildly adventurous album might seem like a mediocre album trying very hard to make something unique, or to change the course of pop and rock during that time. But for me, it's just an aimless and fun fiddling with the sound. It's fragile, it's inconsistent, and it's pretty weird, and I like it. It gives one the light and carefree vibes with its stellar and playful sounds despite singing about topics like time bombs in airplanes.

Surprisingly good!

interesting… i just know kevin parker has worn this one out. i enjoyed hotel a lot

Really interesting.

After the first two tracks, I'm amused and enjoying this. Funny, musically interesting (if not super original), and quite enjoyable so far. Got some laughs and got my feet moving at the office. A few more tracks in and really enjoying this. Some inventive stuff here, vocals and instruments and styles. Humor and seriousness but in a light vein. Read some of the history of the band, I get where some of this stuff came from. It's great. Clockwork Creep is hilarious and dark. I really enjoyed this album, every tune.

Previously unfamiliar with this band, until I got to Worst Band in the World and immediately recognized the Workinonit sample J Dilla used! Love when that shit happens! Anyways, the music is not typically "my thing", but its fun, almost self aware hokiness makes it a rather enjoyable listen. It veers all over the place in the best way an album from a British band in the 70s could only pull off this well and have it still feel like a cohesive album. The album seems to get more interesting the deeper you get into it or maybe it just suffers from having such a shuffley blues groove song to open it, but that is of the time, I suppose. Probably, wanted to open with something that wouldn't scare folks off right away with something too "weird" and unfamiliar. I'll delve into more of their stuff for sure.

Kolejny albumik sluchany z fona, ale znowu sluchany wczesniej, wiec raczej przypomnienie niz zglebianie nowego materalu, 10cc, to jedna z tych band ktora potrafila stworzyc krazki z popowym brzmieniem, a jednoczesnie przemycic na nim tyle eksperymentalnego brzmienia i orginalnej warstwy lrycznej, bo taki wlasnie w skrocie jest sheet music, ktory przypomina mi brzmienie steely dana, swoja dbaloscia o szczegoly produkcji, a obie bandy tworzyly w tym samym okresie, wiec wzajemna inspiracja mogla miec tutaj miejsce, songi na plejke openingowy the wall street shuffle i clockwork creep

Did not know what to expect but I ended up adding three songs to my favorites. Especially loved Oh Effendi, Baron Samedi, and Clockwork Creep.

4/5 - Pretty good!

Though this is more of a pop record, it has the kind of creative songwriting I wish was more prevalent in prog. Would probably give it a 5 if I was more familiar with it.

Every song is different. And that's what I respect.

Very impressive and idiosyncratic art rock album. You can hear The Beach Boys influence and pop songwriting elements that would be incorporated into much of Paul McCartney’s early to mid 80s output. This band has both a pop sensibility and an avant garde sensibility that blend quite well on this album.

Weird and inventive, in a very fun way.

Oddly, I know the cover for this album was photographed 5 minutes from my old home, just off Wood Green high street in North London, despite never having listened to it! I know Wall Street Shuffle and The Worst Band in the World. Both are very arch, and tight musically. I like both of these things, so they are off to a good start! Hotel is also great - like Dreadlock Holiday, years ahead of its time at laughing at cultural appropriation, while culturally appropiating. Old Wild Men is a little less good, very nice sounding but lacking the fun bite of the first three songs. Silly Love is just okay. Somewhere in Hollywood has a very OTT, musical type energy to it. Again, that works for me. And then goes to some dated, but undeniably funny gags about how shady Hollywood is. Actually, given Weinstein et Al, possibly not that dated. However, the fact it's followed by the embarrassing exoticism of Baron Samedi, which is possibly one degree less awkward than Ian Fleming's writing about the same suggests that parts of this album's humour, which is largely a blessing, have aged like urine rather than wine. Thankfully it picks up again for the last two tracks, especially Oh Effendi, which manages to both satirise and be better than the Eagles at their own game. This could easily have been a five star album had it not aged so badly (and possibly if I didn't view 10cc as a slightly less good Sparks). I may be harsh hear, but bear in mind that I have only given one 70s album more than three stars so far, and this is the first to do this well. A lot of the supposed 'canon' of the 1970s is bloated and dull, and this is very much not. Tight, fun and punchy.

I dig the humour these guys use in their tunes, cheeky wordplay, musical gags and the like. Obviously very skilful musicians. I'm a huge fan of their eerie song 'I'm not in Love', so got excited when their band turned up on my list here. I enjoyed the ride. Definitely a band I need to investigate further.

Albumdeki cesitlilik asiri iyi, sevdim.

I enjoyed this a lot, although James has now highlighted terribly problematic lyrics. But before I knew this music wise it was good fun

Art rock at its finest. Maybe too clever for its own good.

This album really snuck up on me. I found myself enjoying the diverse sound and having a really good time with it. I honestly really liked this.

This is great. It's super funky and happy. I'm really grooving. Wow, what a revelation. I really liked how this record blended poppy and experimental. I find that there's usually one or two songs on albums this old that really do not age nicely, but I didn't feel that with this one.

Personally, I prefer the albums that come after this. However, this album isn't bad in its own right. It's got an overall loud, bombastic feeling to it, but each song brings something different to the table while keeping that impression. Favorite track: The Wall Street Shuffle

Really enjoyed this one. Had elements of a rock opera and felt really high quality for the year it was produced.

It was pretty good. A lot more enjoyable than I thought a 10cc album would be. The songwriting was really fun, and I enjoyed the instrumentation. Highlights: 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6.

Hard to decide between a 3 or a 4 for this one, but this was so much better than I expected.

Solid album to own on vinyl

This was an interesting one! I liked Wall Street Shuffle, Worst Band in the World, and Old Wild Men best.

I am a fan of 10cc so this album was fun to listen to. My favorite from the album was “The Wall Street Shuffle” everything was well played but not typically something I would add to a cue very often.

Some really fantastic production. 10cc always seem to have fun and this album was no different. They don’t take themselves too seriously and I think that opens up some creative fun that turns out really good sometimes. Highlights were Hotel and Old Wild Men.

Comedy? Humorous anyways. Definitely interesting, feels like a precursor to some of the more off the wall things that Queen was executing later in the decade.

Kinda thriving actually. Reminds me of something my step-dad would listen to in a good way. Hotel gave me lower pitched beach boys energy for some reason (i hope you guys are appreciating my notes because i like writing them hehe)

lol this is so stupid, i love it beach boys parodying others with stupid lyrics shmock flopera

Too clever - maybe. But this album is great fun. Playful lyrics, good harmonies and bold chunky guitars.

I really like it but it is 70s so like I am more likely to enjoy it Final Thoughts: 4/5

Cet album des Beatles était excellent, et ce malgré un nom de groupe absolument ridicule et je suppose peu évident à porter au quotidien.

Enjoyable album full if surprises

Early 70s was a hell of a time. I wonder how much this influenced later mgmt albums. Baron Samedi is like 10cc saw Soul Sacrifice by Santana at Woodstock and were like “let’s do that but add some boring parts so we don’t get sued.” Oh Effendi = lynyrd skynyrd I wonder if the Runaways jacked the opening of Silly Love for Cherry Bomb

A weird and fun album. 0RS

We’ve had one yes. But what about second time signature change per song.

At first, I loved the music and hated the vocals and lyrics. As the album went on, it grew on me. I really enjoyed this by the end of it. "Hotel" is fun. This was a pleasant surprise. Listening to it made me think these guys had a lot of fun making this album.

ttssss mamalonsh

Like Tally Hall did an album in 1974. Goofy, but melodious. These guys are just having a laugh. The highlights are Hotel and The Worst Band in the World

Pleasant surprise. Lots of irony and different perspectives in the lyrics, experimental music choices. I expected some dated generic rock like Deep Purple, but this had spunk. 3.5 but rounding up to 4 on the rating because I expected this to suck so much and it didn't.

Some of these songs are idiotic I the best way, "Worst Band..." "Hotel". Some excellent guitar sounds. It sounds like they are having fun. I enjoyed it, and it made me curious to listen to more from these guys. From Wikipedia, sounds like they were really in stride for about 5 albums in the 70's.

Short, fun, nice music and lyrics.

I had not listened to this album before. I like the band10cc. From this album I only knew the song The Wall Street Shuffle. Some songs surprised me positively. But the 10cc sound was already there and was recognizable. The album was nice to listen to.

Nice and relatively varied, great album

Part-Paul McCartney Beatles, part-Frank Zappa lunacy. Every song was really unique and frankly bizarre? The best 70s album so far. "Hotel", "Clockwork Creep" and "Oh Effendi"

Reminded me of Rush or other prog rock

Not a band I was very familiar with - but it's good. Feels like it would be the most pop rock album during its time, but now it's just a fun rock. Has an almost manic energy in a way that's similar to Les Claypool (Clockwork Creep). Somewhere in Hollywood has a riff used in a Bond film theme. The Sacro-Iliac almost has crosby, stills, nash, & young harmonies. Really enjoyed this album

Funky and weird. Went from sounding like The Who to sounding like The Beatles. Really great recommendation.

1974: The Wall Street Shuffle, The Worst Band In The World

albums good. apparently its progressive pop. i dont really know wtf prog pop is still but this album is poppy and it is pretty progressive so i can kinda get it. theres a lot of sudden stylistic switch-ups and weird song structures here, probly best illustrated in the opening three tracks (which is also my fav stretch of the album). the first two are filled with all sorts of different stylistically clashing sections that are really interesting together, and the third one is just kind of a breezy beachy tune with a long ambient intro. pretty much every track is unique. cool stuff! this sorta 70s classic rock sound is growing (back) on me tbh. im sure ive mentioned it before but i rly appreciate this site for like actively forcing me to listen 2 this shit lol

A lot better than I thought it would be - I was pleasantly surprised

I like the quirkyness.

Quirky, interesting listen. Even thought-provoking at times. I'll take it.

Had some good elements but I won’t be back.

3.4 I dont know if alot of it was meant to be tongue in cheek but it sure did sound like a lot of other bands at the time it spots. I heard Wings, queen, Grateful dead, among others. Mildly interseting, nonetheless

Weird--it's like the worst songs by all my favorite bands.

Not overly memorable but not bad.

Fun and strange and funny, but not going to be on repeat.

6.5/10

Never listened to anything from 10cc beyond I’m Not In Love and Dreadlock Holiday and it was a good album but nothing I’m gonna rush to listen to again. Top Track - The Wall Street Shuffle

Didn’t know ‘em. Fascinating for the time?

Not bad, not great

Bonus points for the J Dilla sampling. Some of it’s extremely cheesy though.

First album that I added to my list right after listening to. I have added a song or two to my favourite list but not an album. Why did I add it? It is fun while still having some good musicianship. I had heard one of this songs but hadn't realized how consistent the whole album was. Some of it is clever. Both 'The Worst Band in the World' and 'Clockwork Creep' while mining the same process, produce a fun song that I want to listen to again. Reminds me a bit of ELO. Now in terms of influence... These guys wrote and recorded music for other people. Music was a different type of hits machine back then. They also found ways to make stuff sound fuller so they didn't have to have more musicians. See, they were music businessmen. This album, though, while it had an innovation here or there, isn't one I would call influential by itself. Though this has one of my favourites, it will get a 3. However, it is one of the first where I want to go out and make my friends listen to a song or two from it.

This is definitely an interesting album. Not really my thing, but I get the brilliance.

10cc is/was (all of them are still alive today) a quirky band with a sense of humor. Not my fave of their albums, but I loved Wall Street Shuffle.

This was alright. The highlight was definitely catching the sample that's on J Dilla Donuts

10cc loves humor. I wish they would keep their humor in their lyrics instead of the music. If the song is "the worst band in the world" they don't have to prove it in the music. Honestly, this album is more prog rock than anything. But with a touch too much novelty music. 3/5

uhh mid i'd give it a solid 3

it walks a fine line between fascinating and boring yet leans toward the former at last. 3.5/5

Fun, noodle-y rock with a sense of humor. Like Ween from the 1970s. Had a great time!

Overall Rating - 3.10/5 (6.20/10). Overall a fun album. I can hear the beginnings of late 70s non-Disco pop in it. Worth listening to.

Some nice tunes but sometimes a bit weird. Weak three stars also just because I'm not 100% into the vocals. favourite: "The Wall Street Shuffle" 2,5

I see what they're trying to do, and the fact that it was attempted in 1974 would have been impressive. If, of course, the Beatles hadn't done it so much better by then. There is nothing offensive here, and I'll even concede that an alt-Beatles act belongs on the list. But it's not great by any stretch of the imagination.

Very peculiar. That's the best way to describe this music. Some songs are nice. Others are too weird. It has a sense of conceptual album, but I don't know if it actually is. Maybe if I had more time to listen to it I would appreciate it more. 2,5/5.

A pretty typical rock album.

Good Album. 10cc were full of interesting ideas, tho' sometimes they tried to squeeze too much into a single song.

Quite enjoyable; smooth and will relisten.

Quirky and fun

Started off intriguing but didn’t keep my interest.

I liked it very good in the bg sounds like any rockish album 3.5 ye

fun. the sample for "Workinonit" by J Dilla was a jumpscare.

7/10 Divertido, no se me hizo pesado

more like shit music

Certainly would have an unique appeal certainly with the lyrics , but not one for me 3*

was kinda good sometimes Will I listen to again: 24%

Surprised to see this album on the list. I’m a fan of 10cc, but this record is pretty disjointed.

Electronic bit odd

10cc are a lot of fun. Perhaps missing the absolute peak hits here - 'Be quiet, big boys don't cry' - but still a pleasure to listen to.

A nice change from yesterday. An album that could be in the late 90s

alright

Pretty good.

Aceptable mientras uno prepara el desayuno.

This album is delightful. I was expecting some more generic 70s rock that I would give a ⅗ but instead I got this kinda hilarious album that I’ll give a 3/5

Random thoughts: * I was really only familiar with 10cc from the song "I'm Not in Love" which was on a random compilation. But then you go look at their top tracks and you're like I also know these other 4-5 songs. * One of those songs is the "Wall Street Shuffle" which is a staple of the old classic rock radio stations. And is definitely the most well known song from this album. * 10cc is a weird one. They contain multitudes. 70s pop rock a la Cheap Trick. Some operatic rock a la Queen. Some reggae. I bet people just didn't know what to do with 10cc back in the 70s. * I like them. I think I would have been a huge fan in the 70s due to their varied styles which were on display on Sheet Music. * Worst Band in the World was a funny song and had to be a bit of a shot at their critics. lol * "Hotel" brought that weird white-boy reggae. * I have no clue what "Sacro-iliac" means or is about but I dug the song. * I'm going to explore more 10cc, they seem to be an underrated 70s band.

Fun rock album with non-serious comedy style writing and performances. Neat little record! 3.4/5.0

I'm not at all sure what I'm listening to here, and even less sure how to talk about it. I think I can compare this album to a painting in a museum: I enjoy look at it, appreciate the work and technique, can see the artistic talent and merit of the piece, but I don't think I'd buy it or hang a print of it in my house. I might later be in a conversation and say "oh, there's this painting by so-and-so that expresses that idea. Have you seen it?" and that would be it. ⭐⭐⭐

This album is much better than their “Not in Love” hit. Is it dad rock or Prog rock?

4/27/26. Quirky and fun, this band definitely has range based on other songs I've heard not on this album. Enjoyed the artistic direction and eclectic nature, but still sounding accessible.

Fun songs, band and production were great. Probably something more for the background than to sit down and listen to.

Most albums try to be unified by a common theme or at least a similar sound, but not 10cc's second album. It's hard for me to even generalize here; everything is so different, both musically and lyrically. A seven-minute piano ballad sits alongside a bongo-driven song about voodoo, and a seemingly serious guitar attack on Wall Street traders is followed by self-indulgent jabs at the level of "we're the worst band in the world, we've never done a days work in our life". And yet, the melodies are complex, the rhythms are jagged, but it's hard to call it prog. However, it seems the band themselves wanted to craft their music in a more sophisticated way: the homophone of the album's title speaks for itself. It's a very overloaded album, but I didn't get any negative emotions from listening to it, so it gets a light three.

have to say, this is a very eclectic album. light and airy with stories to tell. At times, it had to double take because it had a vibe of some original Weird Al songs. totally wasn't expecting this.

Was expecting better.

1974. The band experimented and explored new creativity while making the album.

Bit strange, some good bits, some that didn't interest me, overall an ok listen

Melko laidasta laitaan eksperimentaalia. Ei oikein jääny mitään käteen, 3/5

A strange album. Solid songs interspersed with weak ones. It started out well, but ended poorly.

Solid rock album i could see myself listening to on a long roadtrip.

not bad, not bad at all. I enjoyed the contrasting tracks in each one; lowk felt like a disney musical in a way. not my favorite, but not the worst.

Worst Band in the World is a cool track but my interest in the whimsical Brit Pop degraded as the album went along.

Hotel sounds like Simon and Garfunkle. Somewhere in Hollywood sounds like Queen. That's my only thought on the matter.

caught a dilla sample here hehe solid classic rock that dips the toes in the kind of psydelic kind of prog territory, knows very well when to be goofy, killer lead guitar and vocals

Very funny haha

A fun album that I was happy to discover, but I don't really get why it's here.

A few great songs, okay overall! I think it's a 3.

This must mean something to the English

Laid back, repetitive Favourite track: The Wall Street Shuffle

This started well. Then, as other reviews have said, went all over the bloody place even in the same song. Some of that was fun. Some irritating. This could barely be called an album as well. The songs bear literally no relation to one another. I'm kind of interested to listen again but more from curiosity than enjoyment so this stays a 3 for me.

This was fine

I honestly have no idea if I liked this. I appreciate the attempts to be unique and each song is a whole mad journey, though some of it felt a bit forced, like they really wanted it to be weird so they could tell people they were intellectual or something. Maybe they are. None of the 10cc songs that I am fond of are featured here, and I feel like all those ones are total bops that have weird parts in them while these are all totally weird songs that have bop parts in them. I think I generally prefer the former.

Pretty good listen. Nothing terrible about this album. It’s a strange all over the place album. The lyrics are odd too. Overall it’s bearable. Favorite song: The Wall Street Shuffle

Buena propuesta musical, me gustó.

Thought this was kinda fun.

it wasnt bad at all .

ni zo memorabel, wel een vibey

на любителя.

pretty cool album, like first two songs, rest are not as memorable, but i probably need to listen to the lyrics, guess they are supposed to be funny?

You know what this sounds like? The British Steely Dan, w/ a bit of Stevie Wonder in there for good measure. You know who they foreshadow? Well, this is cheating now, but J Dilla brilliantly samples "The Worst Band In The World" on his classic 2006 Donuts. That's actually not a bad place to go w/ this review. Sheet Music is an album full of inventive things, almost a treasure trove of sounds that a hip-hop producer would have a field day w/, but it's not a record to fall in love w/ on its own terms. 10cc is not as zany as Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, or Paul McCartney, not nearly as tight as Steely Dan, & simply too proggy to be enjoyable. I'm surprised that I dig it as much as I do, & for my money, they do it better than Queen ever could.

interesting

WORKINONIT

A good listen

that one kind of British music I find so tedious

The album was like quirkier than I expected. There some super interesting ideas on here but they’re kind of mixed in with a bunch of random stuff. I do love how sort of bouncy and energetic this album is. It feels very unserious and free which is nice following a bunch of jazz albums. Fav songs: the worst band in the world, hotel, the sacro-lilac

Aside from their heavily played single “I’m Not In Love”—which, unfortunately, is missing from this release—I came into 10cc’s Sheet Music mostly unfamiliar with the band. Even so, the album proves to be fresh and enjoyable ’70s pop-rock: nothing extraordinary, but nothing underwhelming either. The last two tracks feel a bit more unchecked, and while they briefly pulled me out of the album’s groove, the album still earns a passing grade in the end.

Though this was all over the place, it wasn't that bad.

I do like the oddball lyricism in the album, but musically, this is mostly garden variety 70s fare that, while fine, isn't exactly groundbreaking. Personally, I found it more interesting finding out that Dilla made a beat from "Worst Band In The World" on his album Donuts, than I did this album. That statement sounds a bit harsh. Look, this album is fine, but that's all it is: fairly listenable, mildly clever 70s rock.

I don't believe there should be any 1 or 5 star reviews because this is the definition of average. And like most 70s soft rock had a hefty dash of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webster influence

Far more ambitious than what I was expecting. This was a fun listen for someone only familiar with a couple songs.

I’ve heard only a few things by these guys so don’t know much about them and this was a good listen. The songs are progressive and go to interesting places. The writing and arranging are great and of course this being the ‘70s the recording sounds nice and warm. The songs go to so many places it’s as if they’re some sort of progressive Beatles or something like that. Sometimes this sounds like it’s paving the way for New Wave type of music which won’t be popular for a few more years yet so these guys are kind of ahead of their time. I’m curious to hear all their other albums now.

Insert Stefan from SNL… this album has everything… the Beatles meet Queen meet musical theater with BONGOS!!

Eh…. Not as good as I’m not in love.” Sounds a bit like queen, but not as good.

Their second album. Rock / Soft Rock. The Worst Band In The World is hilarious. Great humour. The album is experimental, whimsical and taking the piss. It's almost like they're trying to make an anti album. I found it oddly fun.

It was alright, but nothing memorable. 2.5/5

Having a hard time keeping up with this one.

So I could say this was enjoyable, but it was mainly in an "I'm listening to an annoying album that combines all the worst excesses of British music from the mid-1970s in a neat little package, and isn't that quirky and entertaining" kind of way. Annoying but bearable. 3 stars

Decent

Good, enjoyed

Well, it was certainly something different. Not sure I enjoyed listening to it, but points for originality.

I liked the overall sound, but I only added about half of the tracklist to my likes.

A bit of a shock this one. I was actually a fan of 10cc starting with Bloody Tourists which was a fully formed version of what made 10cc excellent - an oddball collection of advertising jingles turned into fully formed songs. And that is the primary difference with Sheet Music. The album is mostly still jingles with out the songs. Along with the other weirdos at the time, Sparks, both bands fully occupied the art rock space each trying to squeeze essentially show tunes into the rock space with varying degrees of success. It takes enormous balls to release an album that is pronounced “Shit Music” and put a song called “The Worst Band In The World” and then release that song as your first single from the record. Holy fuck? Who was managing this mess? Did they not want to make any money? All of these are valid, reasonable questions. They still remain unanswered. Even more unfashionable is that this was the first of five consecutive UK Top 10 albums between 1972 and 1978. Godley and Creme left to become more famous and Graham Goldman and Eric Stewart were no slouches either with Goldman playing with Paul McCartney in the 80s and Stewart going on to play with Andrew Gold in Wax. This album is in a word idiosyncratic. Of the tracks on this album Silly Love is the best of the bunch with Clockwork Creep and Somewhere in Hollywood close behind. It does take a few spins for some of these songs to click because lyrically this is a very clever record with engaging vocal arrangements and harmonies. Not perfect and the album takes a nose dive in after Somewhere in Hollywood. This observation should not a matter of some debate because the last three songs are really just mix of quirky jingles and show tunes that are not fully realized. 3/5

Not sure what to make of this. It’s all over the place. Maybe just because you can do all these things at once doesn’t mean you have to.

Bonkers. Never gets as good as the first song.

Enjoyable, nearly jumped up and applauded when I recognized the Dilla sample

Very different than I was expecting. Vaudevillian vibes. A little weird.

Good for the 70s, but not for me. Plays like a one hit wonder album

It’s really interesting, has a lot of different musical themes.

En oikein ehtinyt alkua pidemmälle. Pitää kuunnella paremmalla ajalla uudestaan. Muuten vaikutti ihan lupaavalta. 3/5.

Yeah, it's fine. Totally inoffensive and the first couple tracks were quite good.

Beethoven, Mozart, Koji Kondo, etc.

This is my first time listening to a 10cc album. I don't know... this is just weird, and not terribly enjoyable. It's not bad, but not very good either.

Tries a lot, but doesn't manage to really capture my attention.

It was all over the place. There were some interesting songs on here and I enjoyed it overall, but it was so disjointed that I couldn't really see it as a coherent album. The Wall Street shuffle is a good song

Some weird songs but some decent ones too

I like the idea of 10cc more than the actual music. I like progressive rock styligs applied to a pop context. It's all very interesting and creative, but unfortunately fails to capture my attention for very long. Definitely will click with me eventually, I just know it. Key tracks: The Wall Street Shuffle Clockwork Creep

This was a fun album to listen to. I think 10cc should have been a bigger band than they were.

Liked a few songs but a little too weird haha

wow, really different. Started off strong with a strong poppy rock track. then got weird. really interesting songs, starts poppy and then gets weird. Beatles and Paul Simon at times, then Queen shows up. Not sure how to classify this, but its a bit off kilt for me. 2.5/5.

Favorite track(s): The Wall Street Shuffle, The Worst Band in the World, Somewhere in Hollywood

Fine. I like this style but other bands like Sparks and Queen did it better.

Arty, prog pop. I should hate it but it has a certain joy that I didn't expect and an innocence that is appreciated. Odd

Must be cool to make whatever music you want

376/1089 - It's eclectic but quite disconnected. Overall, a bit too silly for me but my rating might change depending on the day.
