Reviews (page 2 of 7)

Every single song took me on a journey and didn't know where it was going. kept me super interested and grooving all the way through.

Nearly perfect! Can't believe how great this was! Standouts: Wall Street Shuffle, Worst Band in the World, Hotel, Old Wild Men, Clockwork Creep, Silly Love, Sacro-Lliac, Oh Effendi, 4.5

This was a way better vibe than I expected!!

I never realised just how good 10cc actually was. This album was just spot on. A great balance of silliness, pretentiousness, satire and good old rock.

I was not aware of 10cc before this, and I was really surprised by that. What a wonderful record. Love it.

I was a bit disoriented with this one. Don’t I know 10cc? Well, not any of these tracks…and this is a bit wacky, isn’t it? I don’t care…I like it!!

Oooh - I love “I’m Not In Love” and “The Things We Do For Love”. Give me some great easy 70s tunes. To my surprise this was nothing like the only two songs I knew from 10cc. This was wild, progressive, funny dealing with some offbeat and unexpected topics like Wall Street and pelvic joints. I really loved it!

Total cool und gesangslastig. CSNY vibes :)

This is utterly bizarre but good, I think!

I love this. It's quirky and a bit zany. Clockwork Creep is my standout favorite.

Amazing

Ik loev

honestly, nuts to the haters. this album was great. it was wild and wacky and all over the place, but in a fun, tongue-in-cheek way. the biggest knock against it was the unnecessary sprinkling of racism across a few of the tracks. hotel, baron samedi, and maybe oh effendi all felt a bit unsettling to listen to in those sections, like hearing an uncle you always thought was kinda cool spout some nonsense at a family reunion. the use of AAVE (or i guess whatever the British equivalent is) just looks bad, especially 50 years later. otherwise, the songs were fun and interesting. some felt like 70s classics, others could've been written in 2009. hotel sounds like a flight of the concords or vampire weekend song. clockwork creep is like freddie mercury singing in a musical showstopper. old wild men seems to be poking fun at bands like led zeppelin, which I'm always here for. in summary, this is like steely dan + queen + meatloaf + talking heads + elvis costello + novelty records from the 50s + L + ratio + first single failed to chart. this feels like a band that john flansburgh of they might be giants would love. also their band name is bad. favorites: basically everything. old wild men and baron samedi are probably my least favorites of the bunch

Fantastic!

This is my disco.

jesus christ this is so pretentious… JUST WHAT I LIKE! one of my new all-time favorite albums so bizarre and silly — a prog rock masterpiece it’s like if Queen was actually good, it’s like if Steely Dan and Genesis had a child who got addicted to meth at age 7 it’s sonic perfection, but it’s also so fucking messy, I wouldn’t be surprised if I was the only person to give this five stars

Alfa vocals, alfa harmonies, alfa instruments. Weird while still being super catchy, love it.

10CC were one helluva band, and this their second album isn’t even their best. Sheet Music is brilliant, demonstrating an array of styles into its 10 tracks. Hell, “Silly Love” is a hard rocking song which must have influenced messers Jones & Lydon. Maybe one of the reasons they aren’t revered in the same way as many other seventies band is the wide ranging styles contained in any album. 10CC didn’t stick to a script, they let the music go wherever it wanted. Classic and essential.

Aaaaa this really could be a 5 Yup

Okay wow this was one of the greatest surprises I’ve had yet! This was awesome and wacky in all the right ways. It’s just genius progressive pop rock. So many clever and interesting hooks. I can’t believe I’d never heard it before. The production is so good I can’t believe it came out in 1974. Awesome album. I am surprised it is ranked as low as it is

light and fun!

What the hell? What even was this, and why is it so good?!?! There haven't been many albums on this list where I'm sad when they end, but the silence after "Oh Effendi" made me go, "Awww." Every single song was interesting and enjoyable. I'll be returning to this for sure.

Avant guard for 1974! WOW!

This was really good, I really enjoyed listening to it

When I saw this come up I thought to myself "aren't 10cc the guys who did 'I'm not in love'?", but didn't really think much more about it until I was actually listening to them. Well. I really enjoyed it. Couldn't even begin to describe the music, other than catchy, innovative and really well constructed. Having enjoyed it, for no other reason than absolutely no reason, I mentioned to my sister that I'd listened to it and really enjoyed it. Turns out my sister knows a guy who's good mates with Graham Gouldman, who is actually in 10cc. OK, so that means nothing to you, reading this review, but I thought it was pretty neat!

26-Oct-2022 Where has this album been all my life? I knew this band for Dreadlock Holiday, but always assumed they were a bit of a one hit wonder. This album is great throughout on first listen though; well written, great performances, and quite funny in places! I enjoyed hearing the origin of J Dillas "Workinonit" samples in "The Worst Band in the World". "Silly Love" and "Clockwork Creep" were also great and reminded me of Sparks, who I only discovered recently also. The second half of the album maintains the quality and weirdness with "Sacro-illiac" and "Oh Effendi", the abrupt end of the latter left me wanting more. The only songs I didn't really enjoy were "Old Wild Men" and "Baron Samedi", but I didn't dislike them either. This is one of my best discoveries so far from this app. Far from the worst band in the world! 9/10

Really cool! A bunch of different vibes and yeah I loved it! would listen to it again for fun!

10cc album that was new for me - mainly know their later albums and had ecpected one of those. However, this album turned out to be great after a few listens.

I had never heard of this band nor any of the songs. The album is relatively short. It is rock music, but the music tries to be like the Beatles at points. The music is eccentric. I don't think I need to listen to any of the songs again. It is better than a two but not quite a three. I will round up.

I honestly loved this. Such a cool sounding album, so interesting, very unique. Will hopefully put this into my normal rotation.

Brilliant as usual for 10cc

Fantastic! Spontaneous and random but exiting and fun!

This feels like an antecedent for so many things. I love how it's both lush and trippy.

Classic from my teens

Брит-рок в духе времени. Классные так-то

This album really exposes the problem with the 5 star system. It's better than all the other 4s, but is it a stone cold classic 5/5 album? It's very silly, funny, excellently performed and recorded and is very prescient about the Hollywood casting couch 40 years before #metoo. It had me bopping and smiling the whole way through. It was fucking good. 5 stars, damn.

Brilliant album.

TOPÍSSIMO

One of the best albums I owned in the 70s

It's fucking weird and I love it! Not one bad song on the album. It has a zany quality that you don't see everyday. I'm definitely buying this. Way ahead of their time.

Brilliant.

Wow, where to begin with this album. I fucking love it, it doesn't take itself too seriously, but the instrumentals and composition are fantastic, and transitions really well like with "Old Wild Men" and "Hotel", this is one brit rock band that I loved and had never heard of them, NO NOTES!

Wow. And I only knew 10cc for “I’m Not in Love”. That was great!

ooh this was consistently so cool. “Somewhere In Hollywood” = BestTrack. catchy n chill. great voices and a great 70s album 😇

Great fun, super inventive

Acutally good, wow.

funky!

Has the song that Dilla used to sample for Workin on it. Worst band in the world.

So far the most surprising and unpredictable album on the list. Do random? And fun? And just the joy of making and listening to music, what a wonderful experience 👁️👄👁️

"Sheet Music" is the second album by the British band 10cc. They are rightly regarded as one of the most creative and innovative bands of the 1970s, capable of effortlessly transforming the most complex structures into hit songs. If there was such a thing as the Beatles of the 1970s, then it was indeed Lol Creme, Kevin Godley, Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman. Whilst the band had merely hinted at their potential on their self-titled debut, it was here that the full breadth of their style unfolded for the first time: progressive pop in all its guises, spiced with intelligent, often highly ironic and pointed lyrics. The only other band that springs to mind is Gentle Giant, where all the musicians were accomplished multi-instrumentalists who could step into each other’s shoes at any time. The album features “The Wall Street Shuffle”, one of the band’s biggest hits, but the best tracks tend to be deep cuts such as “Clockwork Creep”, "Somewhere in Hollywood" and “Silly Love”. Maybe it isn’t even the best work from this four-piece line-up – which was soon to split into 10cc and Godley & Creme – but it surely is an impressive testament to the band’s boundless creativity.

A little classic rock, a little Devo, a little Sparks, a little Ween. I like it.

I've never heard of these guys, but I had heard Wall Street Shuffle. Overall, I really like their style.

I liked it

This cuaght me by surprise in a good way. I have heard "Worst Band in the World" after learning that it was smapled by J Dilla on "Donuts " This album does not sound of its time. It sounds more futuristic, or maybe better said other bands/artists who are more popular sounded like 10cc in the 80s and 90s.

Leuk album.

Man, things got weird in the 70’s. This was so arch and clever that I kept getting annoyed by it. I don’t want to hear you ironically being a “band” and making “an album”. Just do the thing well. Don’t do a commentary on the absurdity of doing the thing. Yall were not as postmodern as all that. This came out 60 years ago. GTFO shittier ELO. Anyway that’s what I would have “written” if I were to “write” a “review”. As I got into the album and realized that they were making goofy meta-pop songs about pop music, but that the songs were also really well-crafted and clever, they won me over. This is a good album.

I actually really liked this album. I loved the cheeky lyrics, the bombastic instruments of the opening song, all the vignettes of the later songs. I was reminded a bit of queen.

I like the variety and risk-taking. Even if it doesn't all work, it's interesting.

You've got to ignore some of the lyrics, but I really loved this one this time around. Absolutely immaculate production and songwriting here I would say .

Deliciously weird. Poppy, but not quite poppy enough to be bubblegum. Weird and silly, but serious technical musicians here. It's a wink and a nod and let's enough ourselves.

Δυνατό ξεκίνημα για άμπουμ. Σίγουρα road trip worthy. Κάποια κομμάτια έπεσαν σε παλμούς αλλά δεν με πείραξε πάρα πολύ The Wall Street Shuffle

Quirky ever so English classic of rock satire.

Definitely not 'the worst band in the world' I have a bias towards 10cc, so this is never ever gonna get a bad review from me Wall Street Shuffle is one of theit best tunes.

i liked it a lot!

I found myself really caught off guard by this album. How could I have never heard this one before? *Sheet Music* sonically sits in this space, that's a little bit Zappa &a little bit Queen, and giving me strong Ween vibes with their writing. Perfectly sitting in this pool of sounds that my dad would play on the stereo in my youth. Regardless, *Sheet Music* was an incredibly fun listen, a little witty and frequently saturated in sarcasm and satire. It's a great anti-pop entry of the time that I think typically flies under the radar for many, mainly because it's not the *best* entry, just a strong one. I highly doubt someone is going to reach for this album, or recommend this as a starting spot to the genre and era over some Zappa, as his work is just a better execution all around of the themes you find in *Sheet Music*. But, if you know you like that sort of shit, this is a fantastic spin. Across the album, I would say that songs are all solid, period accurate pop pieces with some great playing & and amusing lyrics. Favorite Track: "Baron Samedi"

Some clever writing , very quirky , was in love with the thick harmonies , the falsetto used reminiscent of early queen , I liked the turnarounds of the tunes kept you guessing what section was going to land next not your average pop writing 4 but nearly a 5

Never listened to a full 10cc album, just tracks here and there so I'm excited to see how this plays out! Awesome tracks great songwriting and the production of 10cc is always sublime, I have to listen to more of these guys!

I have seen 10cc albums around but I had never listen to one, so I am not sure how ‘normal’ this album is. That said, this album felt like “the world band in the world but they don’t give shit!” This album was cool because there was no real form or structure, just songs that they felt like making. An album like this would never get produced. Musically, I appreciated the blend of slower ballads like Old Wild Men, the psychedelic rock of Clockwork Creep, and the driving rock of Silly Love all back to back. The entire album felt like CSNY meets late-career Beatles and was produced by Frank Zappa. I’m coming back to this album because I don’t honk I got it the first two times. Overall, to quote Blazing Saddles, “we’re awake…but very puzzled.”

This album is as serious as it is unserious. I can't tell which 10cc is here, but it's working. There's also a bunch of variety here, which also works.

Day 259 Enjoyed this, last 3 songs all bangers Highlights Baron Semedi The sacro-iliac Oh Effendi

It's few and far between that an album on this list surprises me. I really like this album! I was expecting another mid-70's straight rock album, but this isn't that. It's fun, and cheeky, and the harmonies and guitars are fantastic. On "Clockwork Creep" I can hear Kate Bush and Panic and the Disco. My only reference for 10cc is the scuba album cover was featured on the Hipgnosis documentary.

4.5 Disagree so much with some of the top reviews here. This was really good, sounds so ahead of its time and some really fun lyrics

Hmm, this album was pretty cool and after everything that GPT told me about this album, I think I'll rate it a 4 and that's being generous. Some catchy tunes in here and good melodies, good hooks.

heaps o fun

It was fun. Hotel started slow but ended up being my favourite.

This was super cool!! Wow. I was entertained the ENTIRE album. What great art rock. It was mainstream and easy to listen to, while still having so many layers of interesting stuff going on. This was experimental Queen before Queen started experimenting! I have a lot of respect for this band after listening to this. Great songwriting, great instruments, commendable singing, great studio work, and great production.

mate. yeah, i didn't expect this. I thought i was getting something harder than this. I was not expecting 70s rock that sounds like Sparks to me. what a revelation. its albums like this that make this worth it so far, would never have listened otherwise. BANGER. i'll explore other stuff and may reassess this score.

Fun, glammy gem. It seems like a fun eclectic group to hang out with.

Parece una mezcla entre Queen y Boney M. Me gusta.

Awesome variety and creativity. Includes the inspiration of one of the best instrumental hip hop records by the legendary J Dilla.

I don't exactly know why but I really liked this album, it's variety, singing, music, everything.

Started reading the Wiki entry just as the album started and I was immediately shocked at the year; it sounded a lot more modern than 1974. Definitely reminds me of Sparks (I heard "Kimono My House" for the first time from this list), but I like the fact that there's so much more variety in this album. It touches on a bunch of different styles and sounds, uses a nice mixture of instruments - it's clearly experimental and it's just fun... It's definitely a bit hit-and-miss, at least in terms of my own tastes, but overall a pretty decent listen and I'm counting this one as another positive discovery from the list.

Fun and a bit mental. I liked this

Heel erg van genoten!

Really cool vibes

Groovy

Another one of these bands that seems to only have been popular in the UK. Seems pretty fun and decent 70's rock, interested to see where this goes. I don't know this is some weird stuff and I am here for it. Thanks for another band I never would have listened to before this.

An eclectic mix of an album, 10cc are certainly not too concerned with taking themselves too seriously. The album moves at such a frenetic pace between wildly different sounds it’s impossible to be bored. And their silliness does not get in the way of displaying their excellent musician groups, the album is chock full of catchy melodies, funky grooves and interesting harmonies. At times it can be a bit too silly, and it’s a somewhat disorienting listen. Highlights were: “The Wall Street Shuffle”, “Old Wild Men” and “Baron Samedi”

Kinda like Queen and ELO? Very fun listen

The great thing about this project is that you keep coming across good music that you would otherwise have missed. This is one such case, because I only knew 10cc by name. They are described as a wild mix of different styles, but for me it's just well-made and cleanly produced 70s rock. Sheet Music features ten varied songs, and I was immediately taken with the first one, “Wall Street Shuffle.” I find this album somewhat lacking in real music-historical kicks. At least it's convincing proof of what was possible in the studio in 1974 if you had the necessary skills—actually, apart from Queen, I can't think of much else from that era that can compete in this respect. It's also obviously always helpful not to take yourself too seriously—in this respect, 10cc are reminiscent of Van Halen in the days of David Lee Roth. That's one way to do it!

pretty psichodelic, like it very much today´s bird: see-see partridge

the Dilla samples! 3.5/5

I know the name 10cc and like the few songs I’ve heard, so I’m excited about some rock music today. Track 1 is The Wall Street Shuffle and was released as the second single off the album in 1974. Wow, very poppy, but in a Super Tramp kind of way. Not your ordinary pop song. It’s got a bluesy rock sound, then it goes into almost a bouncy carnival-like music. The song appears to be about how to become rich on Wall Street, but the downside is that you may lose everything and end up homeless. Musically, I loved it. Track 2 is The Worst Band in the World which was the first single off the album. Very slow rocker, about how they are a crappy band. The song is very satirical. In parts, they’re singing about being the worst band, then about how they are the darlings of rock ‘n’roll and have never even met their roadies. It’s almost like a band’s journey from the very beginning through superstardom. Very short song, doesn’t sound like a single to me, but I liked it. The band uses everything a pop band would use, including keyboards. This is 1974, so synthesizers are just starting to become this new instrument in rock music. Track 3 is called Hotel and this sounds like Queen. It’s very weird, but great. It’s got a sound like it was written in the tropics. The song is about buying a hotel and a yacht for an island and living in a hut. Then later, they are captured by a tribe and eaten? I’m not sure if they’re eaten, but they’re at least threatened. Very cool song. Track 4 is Old Wild Men, and it sounds like it’s about rock ‘n’ roll bands who become old and play their guitars “on dead strings and old drums,” just playing to pass the time. It’s sad to me. It reminds me of how some of my favorite bands are now old and are dead or not able to create great music like they did in their prime. The song is very soft and slow. Almost a prayer for the old rockers. Track 5, Clockwork Creep, is a song about a bomb on a plane sung from the perspective of the bomb. It’s just weird, but ingenious. "Hang on one sec I'm a clockwork wreck And though my fuse is burning slow Must keep my date to detonate Goodbye, ta ta, and cheerio” No idea how they came up with this. Again, another very Queen-like song. Track 6 is Silly Love which was the last single off the album. It reminds me of a Sparks song, but it’s got some guitar bite to it. Very aggressive main riff. “Hey toots, you put the life into living You brought a sigh into sight Ah hon, you make my legs turn to water You bring the stars out at night But they ain't half so bright As your eyes” The song is about silly love songs and their tropes. It’s a satirical take on love songs that use the same lyrics and cliches. It’s pushing writers to make up their own phrases and rhymes. I really am loving this album. It’s great musically, but the lyrics are so funny and satirical. It reminds me of Sparks completely, with a dash of Queen. Track 7 is Somewhere in Hollywood, and it’s almost a love song about classic Hollywood. It reminds me a bit of the Kinks’ Celluloid Heroes. It’s a very melancholy song. This song appears to be one of the only songs taken very seriously and played straight. Lots of great steel guitar work in it. Track 8 is entitled Baron Samedi, and it seems to be about a voodoo spirit or doctor who can do miraculous things. The song uses African and Latin beats. 10cc are great musicians and songwriters. I can’t see why they weren't much bigger than they got. It’s because they were weird and not your average pop band. For instance, Track 9 is The Sacro-iliac, and it’s making fun of 1950s songs that invented dances, like the twist and the jerk. The dance in this song is done by just sitting down and staying still. Just fun stuff. I heard a bit of Queens of the Stone Age in this song. I wonder if Josh Homme is a 10cc fan? The last track, Oh Effendi, has almost a country feel. The song is about smuggling guns and how much fun it is. The song is very poppy and upbeat. “You're gonna cut out my liver If I don't deliver Things are getting out of hand I'm going to ride off into the sunset and Make a deal with the promised land.” I think I got more than I bargained for with this album. Beyond just being a great-sounding album with outstanding musicianship, the lyrics are hilarious on most of the songs. Again, they make such good music and write such good songs, I can’t see why they weren’t huge. Though you don’t hear many hits written about gun smuggling or how stupid most love songs are. After consulting with our good friends at Wikipedia, I found out that during the writing and recording of this album, the band used every different combination of its members to write the songs. They felt it opened up their creativity. The album wasn’t huge, but most critics believe this was 10cc’s best work. : Apparently, while they recorded their album at night in the studio, Paul McCartney was producing an album for his brother during the day. 10cc claimed McCartney’s influence can be heard on the album, and they used his personal drum set on the album. If I’m not going to say this album is a must-listen, but I really enjoyed it and will add it to my album rotation. if you like the band Sparks or Queen, I think you’ll love 10cc.

Really cool album. Loved The Worst Band In The World

I'm a fan of this band — at least a fan of the two albums I own. This one is new to me, and it features a lot of the same elements that I like about "Original Soundtrack" and "How Dare You" — the two albums that come after this (and get better ratings from allmusic). These guys have a wild and unique approach to songwriting, which is often brilliant and sometimes embarassing, but the musicianship and vocals and brazen disregard for what you might expect — and an inclination to indulge their sense of humor — makes this a better than average listen. I'd argue the material is a little weaker than on the other albums mentioned, but glad the band made an appearance on this list. They get the .5 bump.

Not my favourite by the band but certainyl a good one

Enjoyable but not the Beatles.

Some of the songs are kinda... dated? But there are some absolute gems on this album.

this was really fun

Spinal Tap but not a movie and with better music? I had heard of these guys, but didn't know anything about them. I don't know if I find the jokes particularly funny, but I do like the sense of fun and goofing off, and there are enough musical chops that the zaniness doesn't detract from the listening experience. A surprising amount of variety as well. Pleasantly surprised.

Really really liked this one! Groovy stuff

Not bad

This is much better than I was expecting it to be

Absolute joy

I actually really enjoyed this. Will probably listen again at some point

Still sounds modern. Good album.

Ikke så interessant, men i og for sæ ikke dårlig, æ bare går mæ jo aldeles bort i alle de her relativt like greian fra overlappende tidsperioder.

Eclectic as fuck. Will give it the benefit of the doubt.

Pretty fun. I like music that doesnt take itself too seriously and celebrates the process.

Absolutely all over the place but a nice change of pace from other albums in this era. No huge radio hits but there were still some jams. I want to say more about this but I listened to it a few days ago, I still think it’s worthy of a four though.

Quite liked this, even though none of their hits were on it. Quirky songs, crisp sounding through headphones — a pleasant surprise all around. Weird to realize they played in the parking lot of a nearby True Value Hardware store a few months ago, with the original lead guy/songwriter still in the group.

Surprisingly fun.

All over the place, ADHD- riddled, proper shitpost - enjoyed this a lot :)

So fun to listen to, very good vibe

I recognize some of these samples in what I thought were contemporary songs. Fun surprise.

This is one of those albums I'd have to listen to a few times over to fully grasp what the fuck is actually going on. Do I like it? Do I hate it? It's making me feel things, that's for sure. It walks that line of stupid and artsy. It's clearly divisive from what I read of the other reviews. It's absolutely weird and out there. Sometimes it feels like a hat on a hat, you know, like its trying too much. Sometimes it feels like there's a wink and a nudge. I'm clearly enjoying whatever the hell it is, so points to you!

Funky great beats some questionable lyrics. Really fun overall and every song is a different vibe.

never would have found this but what a pleasant surprise!

Faktiskt överlag rätt bra. Har pendlat upp och ned för mig. Men tror nog det räcker för en fyra. Det är väldigt melodiskt och lattjo. Saknar nån riktigt hit. Känner igen wall Street shuffle, var ifrån? Film/tv? Aja, helheten är en mycket stabil.

Wall Street Shuffle is a certified banger

Purposely fun and mixes lots of different ideas together that surprisingly mostly work

Super engaging, forward-thinking 70s art rock that does not take itself too seriously. Great record overall!

Some very interesting and vibrant 70s British rock music. This is a pretty damn good album, and not one I expected from 10cc, who I only previously heard a few songs from.

Some songs are super cool, sarcastic and I like them. But album is kinda meeeh in general. Wow, it's fun, experimental and unusual for the 70s. Definitely not my favorite, but it's really good to listen once in a while. It feels like a bunch of really good musicians just fucking with me because the music is great, the lyrics are mostly bad, there are so many styles and it's mixed very well. I've known a few 10cc songs for a long time and damn, I mean, that's the same band that made I'm Not In Love, Dreadlock Holiday — that's phenomenal. This album so shitty (sheet music, shit music, I'm sure it was intended, yep) deliberately, not because of a lack of skills, that's their style and british fuckiness at its prime. 4/5 and respect + —————————————— Liked: — The Wall Street Shuffle — Hotel — Clockwork Creep — Baron Samedi — The Sacro-Iliac

This was like a proto- Of Montreal. It was so weird and fun. When searching for deep cuts throughout rock history, this is the sort of Queen-reminiscent gem one hopes to find.

A good 70s rock album. The hits are obvious and instantly recognizable, the rest is good, but a bit forgettable. A 3.5/5

This was an interesting listen. This album feels incredibly varied with songs that sound like Queen then others that have Beach Boys vibes. I actually liked it a lot.

Wall Street Shuffle is just an amazing song!

Hotel is too real. Very good album and I realised that my earbuds have terrible sound. 4/5

Fun album!

Very enjoyable and the right amount of eccentric. You can tell they were truly enjoying what they were doing.

I get really excited when I've never even heard of a band and then I end up liking their album. Thank you 1001 Albums Generator!

Enkelt och behagligt utan att vara tråkigt. Låter riktigt bra!

Never heard of the band. Really enjoyed it. All over the place stylistically but it came across as fun and innovative. 3.5/5. Raising to 4.

Underrated band (even with a huge hit) and a unique sound.

Never heard of them. Should be fun! Listening Notes: -Wow I really like this opening track. Lively and bold. -The sort of blare heavy chords that are sort of the distinctive here are really working for me. -Lots of really cool sounds everywhere. Reviews: So many cool pieces that this band seems not have know precisely how to fit together. I think this is an extremely compelling album with many cool sounds, but it doesn't quite know what to do. And when it could be really avant-garde, they often pull back where (I think) they should lean in. But It's good enough for 4 stars, I thinkl.

I thought it was a fun listen

I’ve never listened to 10cc, it sounds like a dad band, but ¨The Worst Band in the World¨ was sampled on ¨Workin on It¨ by J Dilla so they can’t be all bad. The music is hard to pin down, a bit more eclectic and thoughtful than what I had imagined. Life is a journey. ¨Clockwork Creep¨ sounds like ¨Bohemian Rhapsody¨ made by, uh, creeps, and ¨Silly Love¨ is weird power pop put through a latter-day Beatles filter. The music in turns sounds American and British, caught between two worlds, even when singing bad things about America in ¨Hotel.¨ What I like about the album is that the band throws curveball after curveball, always in a clever way that makes sense for what they’re doing. The songs don’t sound the same but there’s a cohesion that makes it sound like more than a mixtape. Best songs: ¨The Wall Street Shuffle,¨ ¨The Worst Band in the World,¨ ¨Silly Love¨

Haven't heared a single note from 10cc before Damn, I don't even know what to make out of it. I like the cleverness and quirkiness of this record. It's engaging, interesting and fun. But that soft rock arragements water everything down for me. It's like if Smokie would try to do their own version of Sgt Pepper or Dark Side of The Moon. Fun, but kinda aimless. Also this made me think, is "Sweet Fanny Adams" or any other albums by Sweet are on the list. I was pleasantly surprised that they are not. Best song = Silly Love. I wish the rest of the album was like this one.

Quite funny lyrics

pretty good art pop - with some rock vibes

I don't think it'll be everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoyed it. Quirky and a little out there, but enjoyable.

Good vibes the whole way through.

I’d love to give this a 5 just for how much it surprised me after that first track. I really loved a lot of this & it’s one of the first albums that I thought could’ve used another track?! Had a blast with this one

Oh it’s the 70’s version of “Vs the Floating Eye of Death”

Honestly i was expecting something artsy, this was just not that, but still like it

Daleko od toga da su najgori bend na svijetu. Dosta avangardnije nego što bi se moglo zamisliti prije 50+ godina. Sve u svemu, zanimljivo i kvalitetno.

Never listened before - some super interesting tracks. Come on back and do the Sacro-iliac. Will check out more by them.

Full of hooks, weird song structures and funny lyrics this is a classic of outsider pop music

This is actually really cool. Completely different than their popular song, though.

This album was really quite unique and really weird at times. I had never heard 10cc before that I know of. There was such a wide range of styles here, almost proggy rock and then some approaching countryish towards the end? Not unpleasant for sure, I think I'll listen again and look for more 10cc in the future so I think that makes this a 4 star album.

This is a stone cold banger of an album. Very Steely Dan? Zany but also actually great.

70s classic rock homage! I hear Queen, Zepplin, Floyd, the Dead and Steely Dan.

sounds like cool 70's prog rock to me. I really liked this album

Fuck jag gillar det här albumet mer o mer, Silly Love är så skööön

I have often wished that more of the shooting-for-clever-and-interesting ~experimental~ ~art~ records that end up on lists like these contained tracks that were actually Listenable on, like, a basic musical level. Props to these guys for pulling it off. Some real bangers (The Sacro-Iliac, The Worst Band in the World) on this one. Some pretty funny lyrics, too ("But we're working on it!). I'm not going to claim that ALL of the lyrics have aged particularly well (...Hotel...), but I am going to give them at least some benefit of the doubt on having written the questionable ones as imo it's pretty clear they're going for satire with those tracks on the whole. And the tunes? I'm hooked. Fuck the haters! I'll be back for more of this one.

High 3 I think? Some fun tracks, bold ending lowkey

This is not The Worst Band In the World.

Great tunes with a variety of sounds. Great vocals and instrumentals. Doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is a huge plus when it comes to classic rock.

I vaguely knew 10cc, mainly from songs like “I’m Not in Love” and “The Things We Do For Love”, so going in I was expecting a tone in a similar vein to these. My first listen proved otherwise however, and I thought it was completely chaotic, and just average at best. As I began to give it more of a chance on my registers however, I started humming along to the tunes, to straight up memorizing the lyrics by my 3rd listen. A majority of the songs may sound a bit goofy, especially with some of their stories they wanna tell, but look beyond that and you’ll find some really sonically nuanced songs. Clockwork Creep for example is absolutely unhinged, placing you in the perspective of a time bomb on a plane, but the instruments all perfectly compliment the tension of it with a super fast paced rhythm that you can’t help but tap your feet to it. There’s a ton of variety and not knowing what comes next is such a refreshing breath of fresh air compared to other entries in this list. This album took a couple of listens to really appreciate, and it’s far from a perfect album, but needless to say I’m now a fan. It’s like if you had an album full of oddballs like Maxwell’s Silver Hammer in how outlandish these songs are, while being so perfectly coherent you can’t help but be entranced by it.

Despite hearing very little of this band, I did know their rep for sonic experimentation. It's rare, though, when you hear a band experimenting, but also sounding like they're having fun. There are a few tracks that I start to find irritating, and then find myself being won over by them before they end. This album is my biggest surprise, so far, on this project. I can see myself coming back to it often. Standout Track(s): The Worst Band in the World (If nothing else than hearing the source of the J Dilla sample!), Old Wild Men, Silly Love, Somewhere in Hollywood

Favorites (nearly the whole album): The Wall Street Shuffle The Worst Band In The World Hotel Old Wild Men Clockwork Creep Somewhere in Hollywood Baron Samedi The Sacro-Iliac Oh Effendi Unique song ideas - there's an element of comedy and light-heartedness in the album. Each track is sensible and easy to understand too. Catchy 70s rock for the most part!

I had never heard of these guys, but wow! What a fun surprise as I think I saved two thirds of the album. Will be back for more, strong 4!

Bizarre quirky but fun album. Reminds me of Supertramp and Nilsson Schmilsson. Makes perfect sense that these guys did Dreadlock Holiday. I liked a lot of this. But it’s music you’d mostly be embarrassed to play to others. Shout out J Dilla. Fave Tracks: The Wall Street Shuffle, The Worst Band in the World, The Sacro-Iliac 3.7/5

Good sound overall, interesting concept and theme of songs. Some Catchy songs, others aren’t so interesting though

quirky album. kind of fun. i wish it was either more quirky (a la Sparks) or less quirky (a la most of their contemporaries) because I feel like it would've been more remarkable in either direction. it's quirky enough that it's a little offputting, but not quirky enough to be a super fun niche album. i still liked it and there are nice moments, but I just wish there was more to make this memorable.

Amazingly good album all songs are cool different and pretty original

I appreciate the thumb nosing silliness but wasn’t in love and was about to cut the last corner - glad I didn’t cause the Sacro-Iliac bumped it up a star in my book!

Certainly a pretty goofy and colorful sound from this one! It's like a if Queen made only Bohemian Rhapsody for a whole record, and with some very wild and obscure and even political song topics. Enjoyed it for the most part. 7/10

This album is so peculiar. Sound-wise, it's awesome. Each song has amazing arrangements, and interesting melodies and harmonies. But the lyrics are often odd, and Hotel's lyrics are questionable at best. Hotel needs some new lyrics, but is otherwise a great song.

Nurse, I need 10ccs of 10cc STAT

I knew 10cc were eclectic, but I was not familiar with this side of them. I was also not aware that there was a band that sounded like of Montreal before of Montreal. Anyway, this is insane and I love it so much now, and thank you, list.

What a fabulous and bonkers album. The Wall Street Shuffle is a great song and any band who can sing Were the worst band in the world gets my vote. Fantastic

hey this was pretty fun! Love finding stuff I'd never heard of and it catching my ear A good amount of it I wont return to, but Wall Street Shuffle, The Sacro-Iliac and Oh Effendi were fun and stuck with me. Definitely worth a listen through at least once.

Pretty good album! That Hotel song was fun and the rest of the album breezed by. Probably not a Must Listen but I don’t regret hearing it

Quite a fun album. Kinda dragged out there in the last one or two songs imo but pretty solid. The Beatles influence is strong with these ones

This album cracked me up. The lyrics are super funny and creative, and the musical compositions are interesting and catchy. Great variety in sound too. It was a fun surprise, never heard of these guys.

Quite a creative album with many tempo changes. My favourite was Somewhere In Hollywood.

Quirky, stoned music hall sillynes in an art pop/rock setting is quite a niche market that sounds quite antiquated from a 21st century perspective. I have a penchant for odd music (like the Bonzo's) so I quite enjoyed it. It's got high production values (the vocals harmonies are particularly strong) with plenty of experimentation but it doesn't always entirely work. There's so much going on, sometimes there's too much to take in. Like most music with humour, you certainly have to be in the right mood. But ultimately it's worth a listen simply because it's not punk/indie or rap/hip hop or country and taken on its own terms, it's reasonably entertaining music.

Well this band clearly isnt the worst one in the world. Theyre pretty good, tracks like the wall street shuffle have this awesome piano instrumental, im surprised the playcount drops so dramatically going to down 8 million. this sounds like quintessential mid 2000s surf rock, the worst band in the world has an awesome riff, and some of those thingys that you shake and they make like a cymbal noise (google was of no help in my search for what these things are actually called best i got was a sound effects pack with 'shaker percussion' which if that is what this is called then i'll be damned). And its followed by a track that sounds really odd and then it goes to like this kinda like tropical type sound (writing is clearly my best subject (that was serious im in like the 98th percentile last i checked)). I just noticed how miracle musical core all of this sounds. i mean this in the most positive way one can mean this it sounds exactly like a tally hall side project mixed with bill wurtz. This sounds like if everything that had to do with tally hall was ever so slightly bunglecore (not very, and when i say that i mean california, i rarely listen to it but i remember it better then disco volante). Somewhere in hollywood is a really interesting track, its a commentary on well y'know hollywood (they outdo csh (thats easy though), and it sounds so good that the subject of the track can almost be ignored because its just easy to vibe to, actually a lot of these are really easy to vibe to. overall its a really good record, id listen to this again, although knowing me that means anything from i listen to this in full consistently to i will never listen to this again.

I listened to this a second time and still don't know what to make of it. Its kinda strange but in an earnest way how they emulated Queen and Zeppelin or whatever. May need to see what else they've got

They had a song about stock market LOL. 'nuff said.

This is the first new discovery from this list that I've wanted to listen to twice in probably 300+ albums. I've long wanted to dig deeper into this group's discography beyond their transcendental hit 'I'm Not In Love'. I'm glad this list gave me that chance, and I'm not surprised to find personal favor with the weird stuff on this record. It reminds me of early Genesis mixed with the glam era of David Bowie. For a more modern comparison, the likes of They Might Be Giants and Caspar Babypants come to mind. Despite my praise, at times some of the songs seem a little too smart and stiff for their own good. This is my only criticism of this adventurous offering from 10cc.

This album is excellent. Hadn't heard any of it before, though I have heard some of 10CC's other stuff like Rubber Bullets, Dreadlock Holiday. This album is very much 10CC as expected, and has a nice variety of instruments and sweet melodies. Goodbye friends. There's no more goodies in the pipeline.

Great band

Some of it was interesting, some of it was familiar. Sounds fine though. Good length. Low 4.

Fun listen I enjoyed it. Some parts kinda gave me steely dan vibes.

Diversi generi, molte belle.

I was braced for more samey Brit pop but was pleasantly surprised by this all-over-the-place (and sometimes hilarious) album. 3.5 ⭐️ rounded up to help offset the grouchy haters.

I love this album! It has everything from funky space rhythms to country elements. My only problem is that the songs have seemingly no connection so it feels more like a collection of hits

This was a solid album that I very much enjoyed! I definitely heard inspiration for this album by The Beach Boys, Queen, and Paul Simon. Overall, I would listen to this album again and recommend it to others!

first listen really quirky and cool

I’d never heard, nor heard of this group. It was great. Funny and inventive. A little bit Beatles and a little bit Ween and Zappa.

That was fun! Liked the energy and the guitars, and loved the attitude and lyrics! (Eg The Worst Band In The World and Somewhere in Hollywood) How is this band not more famous? They are insanely funny and talented - funnier than other bands from this time that achieved mass popularity and stardom.

Overall: 7/10 This is a very strange album, and I love how weird and creative it gets. There's so many moments of greatness, with every song being sort of a mini-suite of ideas. With that kind of songwriting, the songs obviously aren't all perfect. There were almost as many moments that weren't so enjoyable. I think with an album like this, I'm gonna give it a slightly higher rating due to the fact that there's not much like it out there. Very fun and cool for the most part. Fav Song: Somewhere in Hollywood Least Fav Song: The Worst Band in tbe World

kinda 70s ween vibes

Heard of 10cc before but this is my first time listening to them and wow! Right up my alley 4/5

This was good, reminiscent of the Beatles a little bit. I think it was catchy and what not. Definitely more enjoyable than some of the albums I've heard while doing this.

Fiiiire. Not my fav 10cc but gosh they’re just so fuckin good. They can do no wrong none at all.

I enjoyed this sound. Reminiscent of some of the 60’s and 70’s British rock

Ooh big fan. To get it out of the way, there were some songs that felt a tad cheesy or much, but overall this was real good. I think it had the perfect mixture of trying something new in a successful way but not too much that it’s like wow slow down. I really liked this.

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would

Wallstreet Shuffle is a great song. We enjoyed this one.

10cc is cool

It all sounds pretty fun, I was surprised to see such a high play count for Wall Street Shuffle compared to the rest.

Before recently coming across 10cc on the music lists I’ve been working through, I hadn’t heard of them, but I really enjoyed this album. These guys blends Art Rock, Prog Rock, and Glam Rock, all within a pop structure. The music is playful, lighthearted, and has plenty of tongue-in-cheek moments. Even though it feels quirky and fun, it still showcases inventive and skilled musicianship. If you’re into bands like Frank Zappa, B-52’s, Devo, or Ween, this album should definitely be on your radar.

Wall Street Jungle isch sch sehr bekannt. Da wird u.a. de Howard Hughes besunge. Dä isch genial und irr gsii (und riich). Spannende Mänsch: The Aviator Villsiitigs Album, gfallt mer. Da bisch im Dschungel (Hotel) oder gschtresst (Clock). Und Doro Warlock hät glaub Teil vo Somewhere in Hollywood kopiert (Deep inside my heart - Für immer).

I enjoyed it, though it didn't have any particular standouts that I know and love 10cc for. Instrumentals were fun and interesting, vocal work was fit sonically, but didn't hook me. 'Old Wild Men' was my fave.

Never heard of this band. It kind of reminds me of a British version of what Tenacious D came to be. Just a silly combination of genres breaking the 3rd wall, making jokes, and imitating some of the popular sounds of the time. Was it perfect? By no means. But its was interesting enough for me to give it two listens today.

I quite liked this one.

While this is a very quirky record, I love 10cc’s sound. It is unlike any other band. On this band’s early record, I dig the guitar tones, interesting song structures, and melodic hooks. It’s not super compelling all the way through, but still a great record.

This was an interesting album - I liked listening to it as a whole, but I'm not sure there's a single song that I'd ever play on its own

I'd never heard of 10cc before but this was a lot of fun! Very Zappa-esque in the way they jammed a ton of ideas into each song, most of which feel unusual. And they also clearly didn't take themselves too seriously.

I kind of love how this record is just a mishmash of half baked ideas that never fully culminate into a cohesive album. It has a lot of the same ingredients as a great Queen record, just without the mainstream appeal or same production value. But I always like an album that keeps you on your toes. The downside is that not much sticks with you. Ah well, time to go listen to Donuts again!

One of the most fun and delightful albums on this list; each song is a distinct little curio all living within the album’s quirky ecosystem.

Wonderful album! you could hear things will come like Queen or Jellyfish. 4,5 stars

Good listening. Enjoyed it. Nice mix of musical instruments and styles

Sheet music is of course something Houmous and Chutney refuse to use. We focus entirely on the moment. A producers nightmare. Which incidently was also the title of our 23rd studio album. A semi rehearsed, semi improvised album that was over 3 hours long. Will be very surprised if that doesn’t appear on this list. 4.3

This was some of the most pop/rock from the 70s. Really unique songs with a ton of character, each song has so many shifts and unexpected elements it keeps you on your toes and moving the whole time.

First time hearing this band. It's pretty good, they definitely have a sense of humor about themselves, but it doesn't veer quite into parody territory. Musically this was mildly progressive 70s rock, all good, nothing too crazy. I dig it, would definitely check out more by them.

It's like Supertramp playing songs that were cut from the Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack, only with dumber lyrics, and with musical nods to Brian Wilson. If there were even a hint of care or craft in the lyrics this would be a solid 4. But the music is too creative and unique to give it a 3.

Loved this album -- played it back to back about 3 times as I was working and still haven't grown tired. The opener The Wall Street Shuffle sounds vaguely like The Who (circa It's Hard) with a satisfying production quality and slightly theatrical format. Instantly recognized The Worst Band In the World from J Dilla's Donuts (Workinonit). Love Dilla's sped up flip of the instrumental but the slowed down original stands alone great. Dope ass song with fantastic production. Hotel is a beachy sounding romp. Once again fantastic production -- love the vocal and guitar mixing (especially through the mid section). Clockwork Creep is a trip -- kind of errs in the direction of ELO with the campy composition. Baron Samedi has some very tasty fretwork. Honestly this one is just fun end-to-end. Maybe not the greatest album I've ever listened to, but a damned good time. High 4 / 5.

Never heard of these guys. the wall street shuffle is a fun jam. I like the vocals, 4 stars for me.

Love the bass and keys on this one. Really feels like a late 60's album but a bit more polished. Production feels so sharp.

Had to double check this wasn't a parody band when Worst Band In The World came on. Not a bad song just caught me off guard. What a weird album Songs like Clockwork Creep I like but something just turns me off I can't really put my finger on it. Overall that was a pretty pleasant album. Got a little silly at certain points but also kinda endearing that it seemed like they didn't take themselves too seriously. Some solid 70's silly billy rock. Low 4.

An innovative prog pop/rock album.

Absolutely no complaints about this one. Just a very straight forward rock album that's great at what it does.

Going into this, I only knew "I'm Not in Love" from the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack. What a fun album. I really liked it, which is no surprise for an album described as "art pop" and "progressive pop." I read the band worked more collaboratively than ever before and stopped recognizing boundaries and I think that really let the songs shine.

I kept going back and forth about whether this was too dorky or not. This was kinda a thing in the mid70’s and it’s easy to tip just a bit too far. Queen and Harry Nilsson walk that tightrope perfectly to me. 10cc and Steely Dan are just a bit too into the dork category while still being very good musicians.

ну угареха же, залупенцы зарубежные ругаются. а возможно зря

It was surprisingly good.

🎧Eccentric, fun pop-rock. Can see how this was pretty adventurous and “out there” for 1974. I feel like The Lemon Twigs really like this album. The Sacro-Iliac might be my new favorite novelty “dance song.”

A good listen all around that doesn't overdo it anywhere.

Like progressive, art, glam rock. Like mixing ELO, Supertramp and Slade together

Great rhythm.

Never really checked out these guys before and now I don't know why. No natural fanbase in US maybe? Anyway, fun stuff and I look forward to getting to know them better.

Never heard this album and have only barely heard of this band--for some reason I associated them with that song "Afternoon Delight" which I now realize was completely wrong. The Wall Street Shuffle is deliciously dated, and I think that's how I'd describe this entire album. Now I'm on Baron Samedi and wtf is this? Ditto with Effendi. Got to love the smooth guitar stylings and the drums throughout are suave. This album illustrates the thin line between awful and awesome. Great album to put on during a drive to blow a friend's mind.

Despite the production being dated, the music felt really modern. It wouldn't be out of place with much alt/indi kinda rock today. Good vibes.

Never heard this before. I wasn't expecting this. Interesting that this album came out in 1974, the year before Queen released A Night at the Opera. This album bears a lot of similarities. Inventive, interesting, and very listenable. Although no true classics emerge, I'm glad I've heard the album and will listen to it again.

actually pretty whimsical, didn’t know 10cc was silly like that, while i did love and enjoy this, it’s gonna be a low 4 for me just because i’m not sure i would personally take any of these songs with me, but if i had heard this in freshman year or during my tally hall frenzy, this might have changed me

A good and interesting album, I liked The Wall Street Shuffle and Clockwork Creep the most.

Favorite Track: The Worst Band In The World

Just the right amount of whimsy and eclectic style to fuck my shit up.

Favourite tracks: worst band in the world; wall street shuffle; silly love

A surprisingly good album!! Had never heard about the band before, but way better than your average 70s rock band!

So close to a 5, this album was so weird and funky and catchy. Not feeling a true 5, but it’s so close.

I really appreciated the uniqueness of this album. This band was clearly trying to experiment with sounds and arrangements. There are some good songs e.g. "The Wall Street Shuffle" and "Clockwork Creep". There is also a lot of stuff that doesn't *really* work. But overall – very nice to hear something that isn't the usual 60s/70s/80s rock/pop.

Reminds me so much of 2010s wacky internet music like Tally Hall and Lemon Demon. Fucking insane that this is from 1974. I like it a lot. Very pleasant surprise, never even heard of these lads. Rest in peace 10cc, you would have loved Skibidi Toilet.

Wel lachen, weer wat anders. Niet persé heel vet

Almost as good as the album from Sparks (Kimono My House) that came out in the same year. Felt like similar glam / art rock style with a lot of cheeky lyrics and fun energy. I think Sparks' album was better - at least more consistent - but dang if this album doesn't have some high points. The Wall Street Shuffle is a nice opener with a little harder rock sound (made me think a bit of ELO and Out of the Blue) and The Worst Band in the World is a good follow-up - quirky as hell but I dug it. Hotel dragged until they got through the 90s intro, then felt like an irreverent Paul Simon song. But man oh man the combo of Clockwork Creep and Silly Love to end side one and start side two - they absolutely ROCK! Solidified the Sparks feel for me too. The former is as fun and cheeky as This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us and is also killer on the piano, giving it such a great beat. The latter has more guitar and it just buzzes. The rest of side two is up and down. Somewhere in Hollywood is a bit grander or more baroque in style, but not bad while Baron Samedi reminded me a bit of early Queen and was alright. What's funny is that unlike Sparks I have heard of these guys before because I know a few of their singles that came out a couple years later (I'm Not in Love, The Things We Do for Love). But now that I know this album I don't want to associate them with those sappier songs, where if they're trying to be cheeky it's not so clear. This album is way cooler; deliciously eccentric. Probably closer to a 3.5 than anything but rounding up for the fun factor. And those two incredible songs in the middle of the album.

I don't think that there's a weak song here, yet nothing stands out as a hit song. Sheet Music's just a solid album that I would listen to again. In the end, this surprised me.

Before recently coming across 10cc on the music lists I’ve been working through, I hadn’t heard of them, but I really enjoyed this album. Sheet Music blends Art Rock, Prog Rock, and Glam Rock, all within a pop structure.

Good, weird lyrics. Good!!

What a strange discovery! I only knew I'm Not in Love from 10cc. I thought they were like a yacht rock band or something. This is like Sparks and Queen. It also really reminded me of the album Congratulations by MGMT in that the songs are constantly shifting and not taking themselves too seriously. I feel like I need to listen to this a few more times to really get it. I'm thinking a 3.5. I'm going with a 4 because of how much it surprised me. I may end up reevaluating it lower.

Started off kinda standard but I enjoyed it more over time. Doesn't take itself too seriously at all, sometimes reminiscent of Queen or ELO.

Good fun, for sure. I'd never listened to 10cc before, and I regret that now.

Really enjoyed it. Had some fun experimental beats and sounds. Led Zeppelin II vibes. 4/5!

I need to dive into this more - only time for one listen today but this was giving me major Sparks/ELO bonkers pop/proto new wave energy. Lots of variety and energy. My default for all ratings is a 3 and you can either earn or lose from there - this is earning one because it tickled my ears enough to make me want to come back and check it out some more.

What a fun album, it’s like Steely Dan and the Electric Mayhem doing a joint concert.

Perfectly weird and schizophrenic!

I really enjoy more thoughtful pop, which is I guess what this is. Theatrical pop? Some super catchy bits that cut themselves short, but that is probably on purpose. It's all well sung. Sounds like it would do well on Broadway today, there's even a little prog in there. The ballad-y stuff is less impactful, but overall it's good fun.

It is amazing this came out in 74. I didn’t know what to expect but I enjoyed this album.

What a delightfully funky time! It transported me back in time to a place of carefree glee. What a vibe!

Not sure this is the album but 10cc is rather underrated these days. The two writing partnerships - Goldman and stewart and godley and crème are superb. This might have been better as a greatest hits or the album with I’m not in love. But this is a good album from an always interesting team.

Gee I would love to give this inventive, creative, and influential record a 5. But holy fuck did that opening song fucking suck. Seriously I don't think I've had that visceral reaction to a song yet in this generator. Terrible. Everything else though is glorious, sounding both exactly like a 1974 record and also nothing like a 1974 record

Hmm I like this. I recognized that one song from J Dilla. This is good subversive 70’s progressive pop

There's something old timey here mixed in with modern sounds. I can dig it.

Adorando as sugestões de músicas e artistas da década de 70.

Sounds a bit like Paul McCartney but is infinitely better

Weird but surprisingly fun.

Really fun band I had somehow never even heard of. I love when bands are funny and good at music even if they’re the worst band in the world

What a rich and unique approach, which I hugely appreciate

This was a crazy album but I really liked it! Was a bit all over the place in a good way! Very fun 4 ⭐️

Un album qui nous tient sur le qui-vive, par ses multiples changements de tons et d'ambiances. Au départ, je croyais à un groupe plutôt générique des années 1970, mais j'ai été plaisamment surprise

Not as good as their subsequent album "The Original Soundtrack", but still a classic. Revolutionary at the time, but beginning to sound a bit dated now. Contains their hit "The Wall Street Shuffle".

W sumie całkiem fajne. 4/5

Fun album. One of the records that inherited from my papa but never took the time to properly appreciate until now.

The only time I've listened to this band previously is the song "I'm Not In Love" from the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack. It's a great song, but it's not on this album. Hearing "The Worst Band in the World" for the first time is super weird for my brain since it was heavily sampled and reshuffled by J Dilla for his song "Workinonit". This is a solid 70s pop rock album, nothing else to say.

Totally unexpected, considering I always thought 10cc was just one-hit wonders with that soft rock hit. Also surprised; I liked it.

Much better than I expected definitely will listen again. Starts out a bit of a mess and gets better as it moves along. Reminded me of Fiery Furnaces in its scattered yet rich approach and tapping of genre.

Glad I listened to this. Really only knew them from the Lock Stock soundtrack (Dreadlock Holiday). They play around with genre through a slightly bent 60's neo psych lens. Some clever/humorous lyrics. Band of goofballs. Stands as a worthwhile listen but probably just select tracks make a regular rotation from this one.

What a delightful surprise. This album is so much fun. I had to go back and listen to I'm Not In Love to check it was the same band. Faves: The Worst Band In The World, Clockwork Creep, The Sacro-Iliac

Soooo... _not_ the album with "I'm Not In Love" on it? Is this another Dimery L? This was a fun listen! Way proggier pop rock than I was expecting - like a mashup of Queen and Sparks. I guess "I'm Not In Love" is pretty experimental when you get down to it, so I should have been expecting the unexpected... Fave track - "Clockwork Creep", I think, but it seems likely different tracks will stand out on repeat listens!

Funny, catchy, outright bizarre sometimes. But that's what makes it fun. I feel like some of the tracks were too out there for me to really get into, but I see and appreciate the creativity and originality put into every track. A very enjoyable listen. Top tracks: The Wall Street Shuffle, The Worst Band in the World, Somewhere in Hollywood

This is the band's fantastic 1974 follow up to the previous year's debut which had introduced the nation to the talented combination of Eric Stewart, Lol Creme, Graham Gouldman and Kevin Godley. Each member could write, sing and play and were responsible for witty lyrics and a varied range of musical styles. The album kicks off with the hard rocking single, 'The Wall Street Shuffle', swiftly followed by 'The worst band in the world'. The excellent 'Clockwork Creep', which is sung from the point of view of a timebomb on a plane, epitomises the inventiveness of the band's songwriting. (The song's refrain would later be recycled as the intro to band classic, 'I'm Mandy, Fly me'.) though my favourite track has to be 'Silly love'. The album closes with 'O Effendi', the lyrics of which are, shall we say, of their time! The went on to even better things, particularly the following year's 'The Original Soundtrack' and my personal favourite, 'How dare you!' from 1976, the final album for the band's original line-up. Nevertheless, 'Sheet music' is a really great album.

I liked it, 4 stars

It should've been The Original Soundtrack, if only for I'm Not In Love. Regardless, Sheet Music is still a great display of 10cc's innovative songwriting. It's as if they listened to a lot of Beach Boys and decided to do more of that but really experiment with it. 10cc is still very clearly a pop band making pop music, but their construction of pop music involves doing a lot of things that other pop rock bands wouldn't do. It results in an infinitely more interesting record, one which I enjoyed thoroughly. Is it a bit campy at times? Sure, but it keeps the ball rolling so well that it never bothers me at all.

Classic Rock, Weezer, Alice Cooper, Phish. Lots of bands were influenced by these guys. 4/5

Was not a fan of the first song but really enjoyed the remainder of the album!!

I thought I would hate this album after the first cynical song. But by the end of song two I was hooked.

Surprisingly good! And my god is that bass juicy as hell!

I generally like this type of music, and enjoyed the playful lyrics. 😌

Fun album. Never heard of them before but enjoyed it. Pretty funny
