Reviews (page 5 of 7)
At the time this was released, 10cc were a singles band, as far as I was concerned. And a good one. Rubber Bullets was outstanding. And the opening track here, Wall Street Shuffle, was really the only track I was familiar with from this record. Then, in 1975, they cracked it big with the worldwide hit single, I’m Not In Love. It’s interesting that most of the band think that Sheet Music was “the band’s zenith”. Personally, I think their 1976 album, How Dare You! is far & away their best album. But Sheet Music is still a winner. As usual all four voices & the harmonies they create make for an enjoyable listen. And no other band sounds like them. It’s the two sets of very different songwriters combining to do something quite unique. And they don’t just take turns at providing a song, they engage within a song. As usual Godley & Creme are the pricipal songwriters, with 4 of the 10 tracks; Stewart & Gouldman provide 2; but then there are tracks from Creme/Gouldman, Creme/Stewart, Godley/Gouldman & Godley/Stewart. I’m pretty sure this cross-pollination among 4 very talented songwriters is what makes this album a good listen.
Iv only ever heard dreadlock holiday by 10cc therefore I assumed they were a Reggie/ska band. Therefore this album was a pleasant surprise. Don’t get me wrong the albums all over the place with a million different ideas, but it’s worth a listen at least once so gets 3 stars from me.
i’m back! very theatrical!
some great vibes but mostly filler, the good is good enough tho
Classic Dilla sample on this one, but this is actually some interesting rock
Kinda fun, kinda entertaining but after awhile I was like "ok I've had enough"
10cc's Sheet Music is very much a quirky album; I can't think of any better descriptor. I mean, when you have a tongue-in-cheek song like "The Worst Band In The World" or a song that begins with "hey toots" ("Silly Love") or pun-filled lyrics ("The Wall Street Shuffle") or a song that creates a dance named after a body part ("The Sacro-Iliac")--well, I rest my case. Unfortunately, the second half of the album fell off some. The songs were still quirky, but didn't pack the same punch as the first side. Regardless, 10cc made an album that is just silly and enjoyable.
Well this is an odd album. I had not heard much 10cc before, let alone an entire 10cc album. What I had heard before did not prepare me for this; I had no idea they were so zany! They know how to bring out all the weirdest aspects of the 70s. Truly, it's like a clash of some of the most notorious acts of the decade, cranked up. Overall, I found this to be fun, light listening. But when considering the album as a whole, they had a LOT of different ideas going on here; I don't want to say the album lacks cohesion, but...I'm not sure how else to describe it. Some of the ideas work here and some of them don't.
"Sheet Music," the second album by 10cc, released in 1974, blends creativity and quirkiness. The band's versatility shines through with clever lyrics and catchy melodies in tracks like "The Wall Street Shuffle" and "Silly Love." The album offers a mix of humorous and somber songs, all with top-notch production quality. However, the eclectic nature can feel disjointed, and not all tracks hit the mark. This unevenness makes "Sheet Music" an ambitious but not universally appealing effort.
Day222 - three stars seems generous for this album. 10cc has three songs i know and none on this album but the mob has spoken and three stars it is
Interesting instrumentals and not so interesting wacky lyrics/narratives, as is often the case in this list.
Bluesy pop-rock written by absolute dorks. You're never super sure what you're going to get on the next track, and the whole album suffers from this "what's next" feeling. You can tell all the musicians are fantastic, both writing and performing, but it just doesn't gel here. I do get some vibes of what would become Queen later. Favorite tracks: "The Wall Street Shuffle", "Silly Love"
I’m not sure what I just listened to. But I know it wasn’t terrible so I guess that’s where I stand!
A somewhat inconsistent album, that had some fun songs, but also had some cringey songs that sounded like they were straight out of a musical.
The Beatles + Queen = 10cc
Experimental albums like this are a breath of fresh air in this sea of bland britpop, but I don’t see myself listening to this more than once
Had never heard of these guys before, but this was a fun one.
Classic rock? A very unique sounding album though. I don’t know how to explain it, but almost sounds like the soundtrack to a musical with the singing style and bits of comedy thrown in. I feel like I need to listen to it again.
My only knowledge of 10cc is from the guardians of the galaxy soundtrack so my expectations were pretty ambivalent to low which turned out in the albums favor. It started out pretty lame but gradually got more interesting as it went along even if it was only in brief moments and not any single song was a banger from start to finish. Baron samedi cane the closest though.
Some songs were good (wall street shuffle, baron samedi) but the rest not so much
Classic dad rock band. Very solid band very of its time. Some questionable lyrics on Hotel? Stand out tracks: - Wall Street shuffle - Baron Samedi - Oh Effendi

Really nice
Hard to believe same guys who did I’m Not In Love and Dreadlock Holiday
They’re all self-aware jesters doing their best to make us giggle and I really appreciate that. Finally something from the 70’s that stands out a bit! Still not some generational record, but at least this had lots of character. Almost a 4 star from me
This is a pretty solid 3. Inventive and interesting and progressive without feeling derivative of other stuff that does those things.
Soft rock at it's softest! And I liked it!
Fun and cute but dated … does not leave a significative mark with me
Un bon album de rock, très varié dans les sons mais en même temps ça ne se démarque pas autant que ce que je me serais attendu. Une écoute très agréable, ça ferait une bonne musique pour accompagner une soirée entre amis. 7/10
Never heard of this band... fun listen! 3/5
Listened Before? N This was a pretty unique pop record! I really liked how original it was without straying into the weird fringes of "art rock"(at least not many times). Good production value and good hooks on the songs. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: The Wall Street Shuffle
Mooi in t midden. FAVO: The wallstreet shuffle, Hotel
I'm not a fan of the casual racism. But I do like weird. And this is certainly that. I don't know. Did it move any boundaries? Am I likely to ever listen to it again? I'm confuzzled. I'm not sure how to feel about this album.
I had never heard of this band before. Interesting.
3.3
This was pretty interesting. I was expecting a more straightforward rock album but this was atypical.
Sheet Music by 10cc is a delightfully eccentric and genre-bending album that showcases the band's remarkable versatility and wit. From the punchy pop-rock of "Wall Street Shuffle" to the cinematic melancholy of "Somewhere in Hollywood," the album seamlessly blends styles like vaudeville, ska, funk, and blues into a kaleidoscopic sonic tapestry. The songwriting is consistently clever, with tracks like "The Worst Band in the World" and "Clockwork Creep" displaying the band's penchant for idiosyncratic chord changes and tongue-in-cheek lyricism.Eric Stewart's powerful guitar work shines, complementing the quartet's impressive vocal harmonies and falsettos. While the album's eclecticism is a strength, at times it can feel disjointed, lacking a cohesive through-line. Tracks like the quasi-metallic "Silly Love" and rhythm-heavy "Sacro-Iliac" are intriguing but somewhat jarring stylistic detours. That said, the highs are undeniably high, with standouts like the McCartney-esque "Wall Street Shuffle" and the poignant "Old Wild Men" showcasing 10cc's songcraft at its finest. The inventiveness and adventurousness on display make Sheet Music a fascinating and rewarding listen for fans of ambitious pop/rock.
Wanted to like this, liked about 50% of it.
That was... weird. Not bad, just strange.
Get out...with a that silly stupid cover art pun. Must be a British band. As a fan of Tenacious D and Weird Al, I like a good comedy rock album, and kinda disappointed I hadn't heard about these guys. Several clever songs that had me smiling while giving this a listen. I'm not sure how well they will hold up to a repeat listen once I know the punchlines of the songs and the novelty of finding this unexpectedly is gone. Solid album full of jokes Favorite track "The Sacro-iliac" 3/5
What an odd little album.
goofy but fun
Art Pop-rock progresivo. Ni fu ni fa.
Art pop, pop rock.
Don't think I've ever heard "10cc"? 'I'm Not In Love' however goes straight into my playlist of These Songs. This album? It's somehow music as spectacle. Why I don't like Queen. A series of amusement park rides. That really aren't all good.
Most of it quirkier than expected. Reminiscent of some of the lighter early Queen stuff…
A unique and interesting album. I honestly don't know how much I like it, but I certainly would listen again which is usually a good sign
Quite nice, bit odd in a good way. Never heard of this band.
Thoughts before listening: I've heard of 10cc but I know nothing about them. I feel like they maybe had a couple hits in the 70s but were never huge stars. Maybe more of a critic favorite type of band than one that was selling out arenas. Review: Well this is definitely eclectic. I am getting a bit of a Steely Dan vibe with their melodic, poppy take on rock music with irreverent lyrics and varying styles mixed in throughout. "Clockwork Creep" namechecks Chattanooga in the lyrics so thats an immediate add to the playlist. I also like "The Wall Street Shuffle" and "Silly Love". Overall this is a fun listen that I can tell was likely a favorite of many 80s era indie and college rock bands, especially someone like Ween who was doing their own ironic takes on different styles not typical of a rock band. 3-stars cause while there are good songs its a little inconsistent.
Jeg synes sgu det var meget sjovt! Kreativt nok til det aldrig bliver kedeligt
On the fence about this zany rocker
Honestly liked some parts a lot, really didn't enjoy others though.
This was something new. I enjoyed it. The sound was quite dated, very much a product of mid-70s rock, but the songs were solid. Nothing totally grabbed me or compelled me to replay it, so for that, ***.
This was a decent listen but nothing really jumped out as special to me
Art pop, pop rock.
Art Pop-rock progresivo. Ni fu ni fa.
There were definitely some highs and lows. First couple songs were either campy or weirdly show. Second half picked up and even had some fun songs. Not enough to redeem it past 3 though
I have never heard this album but I had two of their albums, The Original Soundtrack & How Dare You which I always enjoyed. This album is for sure a 10cc album (all the 10cc sounds) but can’t say I liked it on par with the other two albums I’m more familiar with.
3.75/5
This very much sounds like a band that doesn't take themselves seriously. They're just having fun and doing what they want, throwing music styles at the wall and seeing what sticks. As a listener, the fun is infectious. The songs are just fine, nothing special, but the playfulness of this record seeps through the speakers and you have to give 10cc props for that. Not what I expected from the guys who I only know for the song I'm Not in Love. Standouts are The Wall Street Shuffle and Oh Effendi.
The album is continuously full of surprises, but loses cohesion and direction as a result. Discovering J. Dilla's Workinonit sample was a great surprise, and "The Worst Band in the World" is probably the highlight record off the album in being exciting. Latter half of the album loses some steam.
Well that was different. I mostly enjoyed it, but the Flaming Lips did it better
I can see the appeal, but it's not that much of a standout record as i thought (hoped) it would be. Still pretty good, but worlds away from bands I like more. Standout tracks: The Wall Street Shuffle, The Worst Band In The World, Silly Love, Somewhere In Hollywood, Oh Effendi 7,5 out of 10
This was kind of fun in a bit of a ridiculous way. The first song is a fairly detailed look into life on Wall Street, and the second song is about how they're the worst band in the world but still sell a ton of records. The whole album is just a bit kitschy, but I can get on board in a somewhat ironic way. It falls off a bit after the beginning for me, but there's a few decent songs buried in here. There's not much on this that's going to have much staying power for me, but they're definitely a bit more outside-the-box than some of the other '70s rock, so credit for taking some chances on this. Favorite song: The Wall Street Shuffle Other: The Worst Band In The World, Hotel, Clockwork Creep 2/11/24
Interesting, they are all over the place here some really bad stuff but some really good stuff as well. Low 3.
10cc goats HOLY FUCK DILAAAAAAAAAA SAMPLEEEEEEE IN THE WILDDDDD WOWOWOWIWOWOW I want to give this a 3 to recalibrate the ratings but this wants to be a 4.... What can we compare this to? Roxy music? Cheap Trick? The Cheap Trick one is easy, this clears. This seems to go further than the roxy record, not sure which I prefer.... roxy with a twist of gentle giant? Ehh I just relistened to the Elvis costello and I liked it more lol so I guess this is a 3
It’s alright. Wall Street shuffle is the only song I would say is worth listening to. Lots of ideas but not very refined.
It was ok, nothing super flashy or interesting though.
Art pop, pop rock.
Meh
I didn’t finish, but it was pretty decent.
A lot of albums on this list that barely broke the Top 100 in the US. This was fine.
Only knew some singles by 10cc, some really nice. But never listened to full album. Found it too much of the same music, not good, not bad, okay. 3 stars
Interesting album. Very broadway.
Quite hard to rate as I found this varies a lot between good catchy songs, slightly more boring, and weird. The sheer amount of ideas and creativity make it interesting but not sure everything hits. I'll go down the middle but it was interesting
The Wall Street Shuffle - 8/10 The Worst Band in The World - 10/10 Hotel - 7.5/10 Old Wild Men - 7.5/10 Clockwork Creep - 8/10 Silly Love - 7.5/10 Somewhere in Hollywood - 7/10 Baron Samedi - 8/10 The Sacro-lilac - 7.5/10 Oh Effendi - 7.5/10 TOTAL - 78.5/100
Funny
it is an album: this just felt really average. From an album from the mid 70s it was nothing that stood out that much. Feel I have listened to many better productions and could find many more which wouldn't be included here. A couple of good tracks but the rest was literally drivel.
Whimsical! Bra riffin. Roligt album
2.75
J Dilla?!
Influences from all over the place, decent songs but stylistically not a consistent album
Hotel is great Worst band is good as it’s the original sample for workinonit by j dilla Clockwork creep is fun Everything else is above average prog
3/5 somewhat interesting but not enough
Great record with an eclectic mix of songs and sounds. I had no idea this was the same band behind \"I'm Not in Love\" and \"The Things We Do for Love\"
Fun progressive rock album, nothing too pretentious
Best part of this was recognizing J Dilla's sample in World Band in the World
This album was ridiculous, and I kind of liked that.
This is a fun one. It starts off with the arguable high point of the album "Wall Street Shuffle" and it follows with The Worst Band in the World wich was btw sampled by the legendary proucer J Dilla on Donuts. Both of these songs and Silly Love are the best songs on here the rest kinda falls out. Less interesting, less funny, less 'note-worthy'. All in all a likeable album with some nice songs but overall has some flaws fav: Wall Street Shuffle, Worst Band in the World least fav: prolly Somewhere in Hollywood Rating: strong 6
Eclectic and so many ideas, some silly, most intriguing. Mini pop operas that show the start of the evolution towards the great I'm Mandy Fly Me in the next LP.
Verspielter 70er-Pop-Rock mit oftmals selbstironischer, humorvollen Texten. Gefällt 🙂
tongue in-cheek british art pop band. sanat, jotka kuuluvat pelkästään vittu painajaisiin. tämä ei sellaista ole... rillitystä rällätystä britannia kakka housu on parempi tapa kuvata tätä albumiaö. alkaa bänggerillä. 10 kuubinen senttimetri määrä siemennestettä keskimääräisessä ejakulouinnissa, teen gradun asiasta...time for the taste test............. the wall street shuffle
great album lots of funk to it
would've been higher if it wasn't randomly racist?!
Really full sound right from the start. Wasn't expecting that at all. This album flew by, I don't even know what I was doing. I enjoyed it throughout and the humor was a nice facet of the sound, even though I think comedy intermixed with music is often kind of touchy and definitely tends to be tied to a period of time which can hurt the experience when listening years later. It also tends to kill replay value for me. With that being said, I liked this. 3/5.
Would be a lot better as an instrumental, vocals quite annoying at times and generally tedious
The experiments work really well on some tracks, while others sounded a bit random and bizarre.
I know less than nothing about this band. I do not like that Wall Street songs but they won me back with the second, even though it finishes super weak. The longer this goes on the more it’s like a…musical? The British sure love their concept albums I guess. It’s interesting and it can be fun but…man I don’t know. They can’t help themselves—they just HAVE to be a little clever. It is almost intolerably goody sometimes. THAT BEING SAID bonus points for sounding entirely original and clearly having a good time with it. Probably a few more listens and I would be a fan. Probably.
My first introduction to 10cc was through J Dilla's chopped up sample of The Worst Band in the World on his pathway to death masterwork Donuts, the vocalist saying "play me" and "buy me" and "working on it" in repetitious loops providing a bite-sized sample (hehe) of the kind of world that was once inhabited by not only them but their contemporaries. The kind of thinking man's ambitious sort of glam rock and roll, where zaniness and stylistic diversification reign supreme and all kinds of cylinders are fired with aplomb. If classical composers relied on this kind of sheet music, maybe its outreach could be much wider. Favorites: The Wall Street Shuffle, The Worst Band in the World, Clockwork Creep, Silly Love, Somewhere in Hollywood.
Like a demented British Steely Dan with a hint of early Queen. Wall Street Shuffle is the best track. Some songs have lyrics that seem a little racist to today's ears. I liked the instrumental parts/guitar solo of Baron Samedi. Stuck between a high 2 and a low 3, I'm going to be very generous and give it 3.
Damn there are some good songs on here, didn't know they were by 10cc. I think I thought 10cc was something completely differenet
A bit all over the place, but way more interesting than Steely Dan
Was okay, some weird sounds and weird songs. Didnt lyrically stick togehter although sounded cool
Pop com pretensões de doses roqueiras bem executadas.
Ok paketti muistaakseni. Taas toki ehti vkonlopun aikana vähän unohtaa mikä levy olikaan kyseessä, muistelen ajatelleeni kolmea tähteä
It was fine.
I can't tell if I love it or hate it.
I did not expect to see 10cc on this list - they always seemed like just one of the many '70s rock bands. The music isn't groundbreaking but clearly made with a lot of effort and attention. Pretty good use of electronic instruments in a few places (for 1974, that is). You have to admire the persistently unserious lyrics. However, it is difficult to pinpoint the purpose of the album as a whole, so it isn't very memorable. And individually, the only song worth listening to is "The Wall Street Shuffle".
Well, finally some interesting 70s music. I enjoyed this album quite a bit. Best song, of course, is Wall Street Shuffle. But the rest doesn't need to hide. Maybe not utterly brilliant, but very nice. 3/5
3 stars because its not my thing, but appreciate the level of musicianship
Meh
There's a definite charm to this level of gooofery being executed with so much skill and energy. I'm not sure it's something I'd ever really seek out, but I'm glad to have listened to it.
Hauskoja kqppaleita, sanoitukset tehty kieli poskessa. Musiikillisesti kanssa hienosti tehty. Kuulostaa queenilta, beatlesiltä ja joltain muultakin
2.5 really boring stuff
Un album rock pour le temps 1974. Ca se démarque pas trop mais en générale ca suit bien le style et c'est pas mauvais. Rien d'extraordinaire. 3.25
This is kinda cool weird 70s pop. but there are too many gear shifts so the whole thing feels really lumpy and uneven.
I have tried numerous times to get into 10cc and try to get what they were doing. At this point, I don't even think that they themselves knew it. Never boring, and tracks like 'Somewhere in Hollywood' and 'Clockwork Creep' work really well. But releasing 'The Worst Band in the World' as the lead single is just absolutely bonkers.
énième album perdu dans les oubliettes de mon encéphale 🤠
они норм, но посреди дня невыносимо захотелось послушать Земфиру. этих ещё попробую как-нибудь
First album served up on this project that I’ve not heard. Always slept on 10cc now will look into them more
solid 7, very fun and out there. felt like Ween of the 70s
Very ez 3.5 Good length
Some really fun stuff here.
Strange - went from liking to hating to liking again
Very back and forth on this. Can’t commit to loving or hating it
I only know 10cc from their yacht rock songs. This is so different. I heard a little late 60s Beach Boys/Brian Wilson Smile/FrankZappa in there. Not something that I would necessarily listen to again, but not bad either.
Beaucoup de nices chansons. L'album s'en va un peu à gauche et à droite. Aucune ligne directrice on dirait. Tout de même très agréable. 7/10
I must have known this album from back in the day.
hell yeah silly music. really entertaining songwriting that is quite clever when you listen a bit harder. good blend of pop and rock. best tracks: Baron Samedi, The Worst Band in the World, Old Wild Men
The wall streat shufle i Somewhere in hollywood ok, reszta po prostu przekombinowana. Za dużo pomysłów mieli
What a fun listen. Full of great music, great sounds and just fun lyrics. I look forward to listening to this one again! Standouts: Wall Street Shuffle, The Worst Band in the World, Silly Love Other good ones: Hotel, Old Wild Men, Clockwork Creep, Somewhere in Hollywood, Baron Samedi, The Sacro-IIiac, Oh Effendi. 3.5/5
This was a fun album.
A nice and wild ride of rock music that tried something. It still feels a bit unfocused and therefore I go for other psychedelic and progressive rock.
The opener, Wall Street Shuffle, was pretty catchy and promised much for the album. However it was a bit bland from there on in
I like some 10CC I don't like others, this is in the middle.
That was not bad! The Beatles/Kinks-esq moments were definitely my favorite parts, but it’s solid early 70’s rock, not something that excites me but I can recommend if it’s your style. C
Workinonit!
Good album. Surprised this was my first exposure to them. Would listen to them again.
A decent recording, this zany 70’s pop mix a lot album sounded good on my setup. 3/5
I had only known 10cc for a couple hits, and "I'm Not In Love" is one of my favorite songs from the 70s. Turns out their songs aren't so slow and intimate. They're a prog pop band that really condenses as many ideas as possible, playing as fast and showy as Yes but as eclectic as Genesis, with many songs and their imageries setting musical-like scenes. There's a lot to like here, but it's really messy and abandons ideas as quickly as they come, so you never have enough time to really appreciate a song. "Clockwork Creep" is the worst example of this, where I can't even remember anything that happened in that song besides ticking noises. But it's entertaining and unique and has a lot of replayability. There weren't any songs I thought were boring or derivative. If I'm ever looking for sensory overload, I know where to find it. Favorites: The Worst Band in the World, Hotel, Silly Love, Somewhere in Hollywood
pretty cool album, second song is not great so i was put off at first after the wallstreet shuffle but the rest is great too
I did the Wall Street Shuffle, and it was ok.
A little bit too over the place.
2.7 ka ima dobrih pisama al neke su mi bile kriticne da bi ih samo pribacila
очень бодрый альбом незаметно пролетел, первые пару треков оч кайфовые, дальше динамика чуть спадает но в целом оч сладко
Het was oké
Actually enjoyed this album. The fifth track was interesting enough to make me raise my eyebrows. All in all a great album. 3/5
Really progressing from feeling annoyed, bored, …and then delighted by this album’s fun, dorky silliness. And in the end, I think I needed to take today less seriously so you know what, 3 ⭐️s
Incredibly goofy. I love goofy music, but this was trying a little too hard times. 2.5/5
Maybe not the worst band in the world but nothing too exciting
Boring. 3
So one knows the few scattered hits that reached the US and also the "thinking-man's-band" reputation but struggles to square the circle with careful listening all these years on. Sounds cool and enjoyable enough but one wonders why so many '70s bands seemed to want to be more like Stephen Sondheim than the Beatles or, better yet, Elvis. As for the music, it's a dog's breakfast in a blender: bit of glam and art music here and theatre-like harmonies and even touches of prog (especially evident in the overcooking of everything); fan-practitioners – especially when they are multi-talented, multi-instrumentalists) can be forgiven for trying to take it all one. Yet, what the editors call “breathless invention” reads like diletantte-ism or me-too-ism or kitchen-sink-ism .... just-too-much maximalism (an occupational in early '70s music industry). Record gets steadily better -- "Somewhere In Hollywood" and "Sacro-Illiac" and "Oh Effendi" are easily the best cuts [3 of last 4 [for those of you scoring at home]). Also seems this lot were quite convinced of their own cleverness (a harbinger of Blur, in a way). One gets the feeling that their handful of hits only convinced them further, plus their sense of being wildly under-appreciated. Obviously talented and an acquired taste, sure, but one wonders if the acquisition is worth the effort (see also, Midnight Runners, Dexy's [whose reputational arc seems similar to 10cc]). One wants a better answer to the "who cares?" question than one feels on first full listen. One will keep trying but fears diminishing returns.
Many different styles in this one right here.
I floated between a 3 and 4 all the way through this album. It’s ambitious, it’s wild, it’s… odd. Which I usually like. I dig the ripping riffs and unique mixing of instruments, as well as the chances taken on lyrics and delivery. I can’t quite bring myself to fully embrace and enjoy the music though. The last song was enjoyable.
One doesn't much get this one, which peaks out only as pretty good, with a distinctly tart sound that feels pretty original, even if it smacks a little of Bowie and a little of Queen. It lands with pretty modest effect, mainly due to the excessively theatrical frills and repetitive filligree (especially in the vocals), that gives off a novely vibe. "Worst Band in the World" is mostly silly, though maybe it was funny at the time. "Hotel" is just okay – not terrible, but overdone. "Old Wild Men" seems like it wants to be epic but doesn't get there. "Silly Love" is well named (and annoying besides). "Somewhere in Hollywood" is best cut (and not just due to the line "Norman Mailer/waits to nail her"). "Baron Samedi" feels overengineerd and overreaching in its confidence of its own cleverness, though the guitaring at the end of the song is decently intricate. The same is true of the vocals on "Sacro-Iliac" – interesting and pleasurable but seeming a little bit more than it needed to be.
Surprisingly enjoyable
the wall street shuffle is kinda a jam but everything else is ok
Interesting choice for 10cc. Their hits aren't many but Sheet Music isn't exactly the pull anybody would make when selecting a 10cc album to listen to. Weird, experimental and a somewhat successful attempt at making music that sounds like Harry Nilsson. 3/5.
3.5
Heel speciaal en wat 'all over the place'
As is often the case, these guys aren't as clever as they think they are. But they're still pretty sharp, and there's some genuinely funny wit on some of these tracks, with some very interesting invention. A mixed bag
Kinda like a 70s Ween with better vocals (sorry Gene). Like Ween, these guys cover about 25 different genres, and they do it all really well. The difference is that Ween feels like more of an hommage, and 10cc feels more like a parody. It seems a little bit like 10cc thinks they are more clever and funnier than they really are. A bit pretentious at times, but I still really enjoyed it. I need to do a deep dive into the lyrics to really get in on the joke, but I love how they combine, and sometimes abruptly change genres. 6.5/10
Always been a big fan of 10cc. Love the first-half of the album.
I have no idea what this might be. Usually the cover gives the music away. Here, not so much. Maybe something along the lines of Boz Scaggs? Eh, not far off. From the UK (of COURSE), just 70s yacht rock type stuff, bit of silliness as well. Not bad, but as always I wonder why it's on the best of all time list. 3/5.
Not badm. 70s kind of rock.
That's a really funny album! The melodies, riffs and tempo, and especially lyrics, are aligning very well into a pretty special and entertaining mix. "The Wall Street Shuffle" is not only funny, for example, but also very catchy, the band members are really talented, even though it's overshadowed by the context of the songs. In the end, it's a nice album to listen to, have a laugh and probably forget about it, if not forever, than for a very long time.
Gillar Wall Street shuffle väldigt mycket.
3.5
This caught me completely off guard with how arty and packed with ideas, to the point that during one song my internet cut out and I assumed the sudden silence was an intentional choice. I caught snippets of Talking Heads, Madness and Squeeze in there, even a little bit of the spirit of Devo. That being said I don't think they execute their ideas as well as any of those bands. There's just too many of them and sometimes it can get a bit grating with how in your face it is. An entertaining listen and the right length not to outstay its welcome. But I would have liked it if they had sprinkled in one or two solid pop hits amongst the zaniness.
Pretty good
Curiós rotllo glam
I didn't know about this band. It's not bad.
Cool album, funny and varied
17th November 2022 Listened during the day while sanding the front door. Went to the cinema with mum and dad in the evening to see banshees of inisherin. Got Queen vibes from bits of this, I know them via I don’t like cricket so was surprised at the more poppy sounds on this record.
I expected to hate this but I didn't. That's worth a star, I guess. Unfortunately, there's not much else to say about this one. There's a reason it didn't really chart in the US. The song "Worst Band in the World" was funny, though.
I was laughing through half of this, and it honestly grew on me. Fun album; definitely feels a little lost in time, like a band my dads friend would create thats just slightly past the sound they’re going for. It doesn’t take itself too seriously though, they’re good musicians, not too bad.
Solid
This album started off on a bang. The wall street shuffle was a great song. Honestly i got pretty lost in this album so I'm not exactly sure which songs are which. All i know is this album was pretty solid. Their name is cool and now that i know the meaning behind it, its even better. This album was short af I wish there was more. Good 6/10
has some jams. 3.5/5
not bad
The Worst Band In The World is an amazing song, and I think Workinonit by J Dilla samples it and makes it even better. That is the highlight track for me, and aside from Somewhere in Hollywood, none of the other tracks stand out, but it was an overall nice experience. 7/10
3.5
Not bad. I like the Worst Band in the World.
Not lyricists are they? Music is good, I can see why it has lasted
I've known of 10cc for a long time and familiar with there singles but realized I never once listen to an entire studio album. Honestly some of it was really bad and just dumb (Wall Street Shuffle), but also has a few good tunes such as Silly Love. Overall it's ok, I was hoping for more. 2.5
At first I want to just turn this off. But then I got pulled in by the tight arrangements and clean musicianship and vocals. Once was enough, but enjoyed it better than I thought I would. Zappa Lite.
Fine 70s rock. Didn't really stand out to me but wasn't bad.
It was strange, and I didn't dislike it. Not sure I liked it a lot either. I'm guessing if I heard it a bunch more times I would end up liking or not liking it a lot more than I did on the first listen.
Not sure what they were trying to do with this one, though I appreciate the attempt.
Odd - almost in a cool way but falls short. An interesting listen but a bit too prog for my liking.
Interesting 2.5/5
This was a fun album
It was good background music for the gym, the songs were pretty fun and light-hearted but had good instrumentation as well
This definitely isn't boring, and have to admire the experimentation whats going on here. However, the thing about experiments is that not all of them work. For every Wall Street Shuffle, there's a Something In Hollywood.
I dig it
the wall st shuffle
This album surprised me quite a bit. I winced when I saw it was british but still gave them a chance and I think it paid off. I especially loved Hotel, Clockwork Creep, Silly Love. All of the songs were very unique and also vaguely familiar.
Big soft spot for 10cc. Some clever lyrics and beautiful melodies.
Great vibes 3.4
I consider myself to be a pretty tolerant person when it comes to most music. But I have never quite connected with 10cc. The musicianship is solid, the lyrics are amusing, and many of their arrangements are pleasant enough to hear. But they have a peculiar manner of vocal styling that runs somewhere between distracting and straight up annoying. They also have a tendency to make sharp tonal shifts mid-song that I don't love. See also: Annoying. Not sure whether to admire their creativity, or call it a day on these guys and go listen to Sparks, who work in a similar vein but are much better at it. As I come back for an additional listen while I write this, it strikes me that the lyrics and the vocal style are far better suited for something like musical theatre/rock opera than they are for a rock band. Approach it from that perspective and it makes more sense. I'm still not a fan, but the album improves on multiple listenings. Fave Songs: The Wall Street Shuffle, Old Wild Men, Silly Love, Somewhere in Hollywood, Baron Samedi
baron samedi clockwork creep silly love
Some great stuff, but a little too all of the place for me - just no coherence.
It's unfortunate that this album starts off with such a dreadful song, as it colored my perception of the rest of it. There are some tracks here I really like, but ultimately it's just too inconsistent. Best track: Old Wild Men
That was a far funnier album than anticipated. The self deprecating humor of Worst Band in the World was primo.
Weird and unusual, but in this rare occasion, it works!
Decent, back to basics 70s rock. good runtime but would have wished one or two more memorable songs to bump it to a 4
It was alright. Not great, not bad. Kind of reminded me of Devo's Are We Not Men, but way better.
Irgendwas zwischen 2 und 3. Eher 3. Gute Musiker aber insgesamt eher schwache Songs.
Ideas flowing from every track (this was recorded 2 miles from me at Strawberry Studios using Paul Mcartney's drum kit!) and was a superbly self-produced collection of widely disparate ideas - I can pick out sounds sampled by other bands here 30 years later (J Dilla's “Workinonit) and it seems miles ahead of anything else. I mean they even resample themselves (Clockwork creep vs I'm Mandy Fly Me). Sadly though there's no real cohesion and the listening experience is exhausting trying to keep track of everything going on. No real hits as such (Wall Street shuffle is the biggest track on the album) so I wouldn't class it as a classic album but it's not trying to be. Like someone else commented- it's like they were mucking around in the studio and decided to release it.
So, this was an interesting offering. Did I like it? I...don't know? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
Hotel blew my mind. Basically because the first minute and a half was completely unnecessary. The fact that I listened to it again means that I lost 3 minutes of my life. And then for them to tell me to go home, well, that's just rude.
This is such a hard one to review. I'll start with the album art, which I almost never comment on, but I really love what they've done with it. As far as the music, it's all over the place. It feels like a lot of the melodies are borrowed and relatively simplistic, not that everything needs to be super original or complex, and it serves the purpose here. The constant changes in genre/tone even within songs make it really hard to settle in and get comfortable. The lyrics are pretty funny at times, they do get serious on occasion and I think they should have leaned more into the comedy. Overall it's alright, don't think I'd go out of my way to listen to it again but it was interesting and kind of funny.
wall street shuffle starts off with a bang for me. hotel is a weird track for me. Wow this album becomes weirder as it progresses lol. Silly Love reminds me of a Queen song and also reminds me of Pat Benatar's guitar riff in Heartbreaker. Wonder if that's why this is on here!
I liked the last track the most. I really enjoy 10CC as a band generally but nothing popped for me except Oh Efendi.
3.4
Stockport represent!
Another album that is part of the rock ecosystem from the 70s. Not outstanding, not deplorable. Just another one…
Not the greatest of albums (10cc is yet another band who, these days, is best experienced through a “best of” collection). But I like 10cc and I like their humour enough.
This is the second pop-rock or art rock album from 10cc. Critics consider this album to be the zenith of 10cc's music career, because the band had polished their original sound and added pop into the mix. I personally liked the album and the upbeat music!
all right
Pretty cool. Not really too much me, but appreciated it more than other old music. It's starting to get more appealing.
I liked that every song sounded different and some of the lyrics were funny.
I.B.Chillin
Pleasant but bit too precious for me.
starts off strong with The Wall Street Shuffle + The Worst Band in the World (s/o j. dilla), but the theatric absurdness gets old after a while. Like listening to a bunch of worse versions of Bohemian Rhapsody. Still interesting to have such narrative woven into rock instrumentation.
Well, that was unexpected! Pretty easy to listen to, but was a bit scattered. Fav new track: The Worst Band In The World
This is a tough one to score. I had never listened to this before and I have listened to a small amount of 10CC. I thought some songs were amazing, early 70s glam tinged weirdness, while others were a bit ho-hum. I did give it another listen and explore the band some more
Wall Street Shuffle is great - Other than that not a spectacular album
Actually pretty fun. Not sure if I'd come back to it much, but I really enjoy the creativity
The Worst Band in the World. (It's the name of one of the songs, lads) It was okay I think, wasn't paying attention really. Remember a couple of interesting parts. I'm confused about the while thing. Let's say, if it was a footballer, it'd be, I don't know, Lewis Dunk? Yeah, Lewis Dunk.
It was alright
Initially I thought the songs on this album were too frenetic and whimsical, with too many ideas crammed into each song. But then it seemed to settle down or maybe I got used to the pace. I recognize Wall Street shuffle from back in the day when Toronto Alt-rock station CFNY used to have it on heavy rotation and I appreciate the very witty lyrics. Creme and Godley obviously had loads of talent and that was going to become more evident in their later albums: eg The Original Soundtrack (with I’m not in love and Life is a minestrone), Deceptive Bends and Bloody Tourists that features my fav 10CC song, Dreadlock Holiday. This album is a solid 3 from me
A fun and tongue-in-cheek LP that sounds surprisingly modern. Some of the slide guitar lines remind me of Ratatat for how trebly and rhythmic they are.
ganska najs. gillade att det var ett ganska kort album
Cool
Absolutely not what i expected. Weird and funny lyrics. To do the Wall Street Shuffle Let your money hustle Bet you'd sell your mother You can buy another
Mixed bag, liked some of the songs, but a few were too much
3/5. First Listen. Very enjoyable. Fun. Standouts: Wall Street Shuffle, Worst Band in the World,, Somewhere in Hollywood, the Sacro-Iliac,
Really liked this record. Kind of pop, but in no way conventional. Great musicianship, interesting ideas and themes. Glad I listened to this and definitely keen to check out some more, as I only knew the hits previously.
Production's immaculate, but the songs? Eh.
Wasn’t familiar with this band…from Wikipedia they had two different sounds depending on who wrote the songs…not bad
Interesting album of smooth sounding singers. First three songs were good. Then the quality dipped. Each song is slightly different but some don’t hit. 6.6/10
Quirky
Cool easy album with catchy music that makes you smile
On first listen, this album sounds like a self indulgent mess - an in joke that the audience just aren’t in on. But after a few listens you start to appreciate the music (the synths are horrible) and some is even catchy - The Wall Street Shuffle, Oh Effendi - although Hotel sounds pretty offensive to today’s ears, even if the band think they are being satirical.
An idiosyncratic prog/art rock album. Felt like someone gave Queen some ADHD medicine to keep them from really letting loose. And I think that's why it didn't really work well for me, I wanted the unhinged grandiose leaps that Queen songs and albums have. And you can hear the foundations for said jump but they never seemed to fully commit and take that extra leap to put it over the top. So it became in album where a lot of times I was excited for what might come and yet, the pay off never did come around.
kind of decent but there's too much happening lol
I may have heard of this band, but only maybe. This was new music for me. There were some elements that reminded me of some progressive rock that I have listened to. In the end, I was left trying to decide if I didn't like the album or if I just didn't know what to do with the album. "Clockwork Creep" and "Baron Samedi" fit somewhere in between weird and strange. 2.5 rounds up to 3 stars I guess.
I was excited at the opening guitar riff, but then it got very weird. Wasn't really a fan of the silly vocals at first. Buuut then it won me over with some clever lyrics. 3 it is!
Very clever and quirky - like an early 70s version of XTC. As usual, the singles stand out, though I've always liked 'The worst band in the world', too. Otherwise it just drifted past me.
As I listened to more tracks I could see there was some complexity to these arrangements that were not boring. I don’t love the ironic tongue in cheek style but I can see its appeal. Seems to fall in with bands like POTUSOA, Barenaked Ladies, or maybe Tenacious D.

Mediocre rock trying to do something special. 7.0/10
Favourite Songs: Clockwork Creep, The Sacro-lliac & Oh Effendi
Musically impressive, particularly 'The Wall Street Shuffle' and 'The Sacro Iliac'. The lyrics don't convey any sincerity about anything though, if they improved this they could have been Stockport's answer to The Eagles.
Instrumentally it hits in parts, a bit reminiscent of Queen at times. Lyrically it creates too much of a novelty record feel. Interesting, at least, for the majority though. Best track: The Wall Street Shuffle
Quite fun. Bounces along. Too flippant?
Very decent. Interesting. Would probably listen again.
Bit daft but solid enough.
fine one. a little boring.
hits hard with those first notes, hope it keeps up. Kinda turns into beatles light mixed with Nilsson after a while. Which is nice enough, just not as bold as first sip implied. As they say in the Sacro-Iliac, "I've never been freaky or funky". Good coffee shop music if you can handle lyrics while you're working.
Aika perus progehtavaa rokkia. Pari ihan menevää kappaletta kuten avausraita. Ei tällä kuitenkaan kuuhun mennä. Jälleen perushyvä kolme tähteä .
Semi.
3/5
3.6 - Quirky, zippy, lots of variety, brimming with ideas, lots of fun.
Highlights: The Wall-Street Shuffle, Somewhere in Hollywood, Baron Samedi, The Sacro-Iliac Self-deprecation is one thing, I feel like The Worst Band In The World is just trying to get ahead of criticism that may or may not come. For what it's worth, only some is warranted...I feel like they're trying too hard to evoke a \"who cares\" image. The Wall Street Shuffle opens aggressively and legitimately rocks. Somewhere In Hollywood is a journey filled with misdirection and broken expectations, feels a bit like a Supertramp ditty. The driving beat and tom-toms of Baron Samedi are fun and bouncy. The Sacro-Iliac is silly, yet disjointed (see what I did there?) with a Bob Denver sound and clever lyrics (\"The lush on the floor isn't me anymore\"). Spoiler alert: The album ends abruptly with \"There's no more goodies in the pipeline\"
Canciones relajadas con un pop sencillo propio de los 70, sin grandes virtuisismos, pero de fácil escucha. No es psicodelia, es pop propio de la época
Creative album
not bad. fun brit pop
nothing special for me, but okay for background
Not bad, but not for me; nothing here is as good as "I'm Not in Love."
Gave it a couple tries over weeks, couldn't find the genius I was told was there but there were grooves
It starts off like some classic, classic British rock album (that somehow slipped under my radar for 30+ years) but shifts towards a pretty unique sound -- some yacht rock, Queen-esque 'hard prog rock', a little psychadelic, and even some showtune-y vibes.
First song title... had promise. It's alright, a little hammy though. I like a lot of instrumentally what's going on here, but the lyrics and vocal contents drop it a point for me. Has potential, but not jiving with the result.
Fun and funky. A little psychedelic
Zany
Reminds me a bit of Of Montreal, and has the most sudden ending of an album I've ever heard. Not bad though!
Was a decent listen. Nice, short and tight timing. Worst Band in the World is sampled on J Dilla's Donuts so that was nice to catch.
Pretty solid, 10cc always exist on my peripheral of interesting bands I remember existed
Can listen later.
URGH! I could not decide on a rating for this one because the end of this album is def better than the beginning. Especially at the beginning, every time I thought, "okay, this is actually cool," it was IMMEDIATELY counterbalanced by something extremely annoying. Overall vibe was like music theater if it was even MORE obnoxious, though I will not deny that there were a few moments of cool instrumentals or harmonies. I ultimately have to give this a 2 because of my strong negative reaction to the first half, but the second half is def closer to a 3.
This is the only 10cc album in the list and contains none of their hits. I guess new and experimental is a bigger criteria than commercially successful. That makes it hard to rate. This sounds very experimental before they really found their feet. First track is good and grew on me on the second time around. One track does not make an album however. I listened to 10cc's greatest hits after this and that is pretty good. This not so much so. I do wonder (and not unique to this album) if I'd been around and listening to it on it's release and heard it lots of times, then I might have rated the album highly. I can hear elements in the music of what later they turned into commercial hits. Reading about their biggest hit "The Things We Do For Love" it would seem that was very technically innovative and might be more deserving a place over this album? Apparently one of the first uses of loops by actually creating a loop of tape so it can be played continuously and then recording voices to "play" these as a backing track. I nerded out for a bit. Read the Wikipedia article about the song if you want to learn more. TLDR: 10cc cool & talented - 4 or 5 stars. This album not so much. Bonus fun fact Godley and Creme from 10cc also had a hit in 1985 with "Cry", I will never forget the video. (Also "Under your thumb," 'An Englishman in New York" all interesting)
I guess it's not offensive...but WTF
Pop/rock, nothing notable
The lyrics are dumb, the music is dorky. Sometimes they have a cool groove or part but it'll last 8 bars and they'll switch to being dorks again. Silly Love starts off great, love the fuzzed out guitars and dry 70's drum tones. I thought, this is your chance boys, don't fuck it up. And then they fucked it up with dumb lyrics and a corny bridge. So much potential but just not for me.
This was nothing special, but it was fun. It was silly but not in such a bad way.
Standouts Oh Effendi
I mixed these guys up expecting a synth-y 80s pop band. This wasn’t that. It was pretty dull. Needed more synths.
Pleasant. Nothing to write home about
Oh shit, J Dilla sampled this! Ha! He barely changed it! The rest, I mean... 10cc album without 'I'm Not In Love' is not really worth it
My brain ended up tuning this out. Nothing grabbed my attention at all
2.1
Another band I had heard of but wasn't really familiar with. As with most art/glam/pop rock from this era, it does nothing for me. It feels as though it has no reason for existing other than to show off fancy arrangements or production techniques. It's apparently intended to be witty or satirical in places, but didn't raise a smile from me.
2.5 stars
BOOOOOOOORING!!!!!!!! The most interesting part of this entire album is that time when the dilla sample appears. And that song is so much better than the song it samples. So much better. To the point where the original song isn’t even a song to me honestly. It’s just a place where Jay Dee got his fucking samples from. And everything else in the album predictably is boring as shit. I don’t care about these white guys talking about capitalism, but that’s not because I don’t think white guys talking about current events is bad. Just look at yesterday’s review! No, in fact, I actually really just hate when they’re vapid as fuck and only give surface level commentary on anything, which these guys do. Idk. So many ideas feel like they’ve been taken from this and yet. They’re all done better elsewhere. 4.3/10
