Reviews (page 4 of 7)

Alright, props to trying to be funny and taking the piss a little bit. It's light-hearted fun, though I agree that sometimes the lyrics seem a bit... bordering on offensive.

This was weird but a fun listen. I'm not sure the band knows what kind of band they want to be. There are some straight up pop songs in here like Wall Street Shuffle and Hotel (bit dated lyrically...), odd crosses between pop and prog/experimental like Clockwork Creep, and full on prog in Somewhere In Hollywood. As far as 70's rock albums go I wouldn't put it up there in the pantheon of greats but I liked it and especially liked that it didn't overstay it's welcome.

Enjoyed this, felt incredibly fidgety and most of the songs could have done with one or two less ideas but always interesting

strange, but honestly not bad background noise

Average.

6.5/10 Favourite: The Wall Street Shuffle Least Favourite: Clockwork Creep

58/1089 3.3333* This is a very fun and lighthearted album. There are of the Beatles (oh effendi) and of sit-com theme songs (sacro-liliac). For an album that doesn't have their big 3 songs or take itself too seriously, there is a lot to enjoy! Fun fact: 10cc is not the average amount of male ejaculate like i've been misinforming people it was (for at least the past 25 years). Hits....TWBITW, silly love

This was ... fine. Not sure why it was on this list but fine.

What a strange album. It's a fun listen, but it's definitely quirky. There's some good tracks though, and good instrumentation, good synths, interesting approaches. It's an overall fun time.

10cc is a fun band but they don't really have a consistent discography. This album has some good songs and a number of others that don't really add much to their catalog. Wall Street Shuffle is a great opener to begin with. I liked the blend of genres here and the fact that they don't take themselves too seriously. They kind of want to be every type of band at once. Not a bad album but I'd rather listen to the singles off this.

This gave me vibes of a knockoff Ben Folds on a couple tracks. 2.5 rounded up.

Ok rock

Quite humorous, fun 70s British art pop/avant pop album, with hints of Beatles influences and a pinch of glam rock. The first half felt more creative and interesting, the second half fall a bit. An okay album, but not good enough for 4 stars.

J Dilla sampling The Worst Band in The World was the best thing that ever happened to 10cc. Too many ideas per song. I’ve listened a few times through and I still don’t know if I like it. 2.5/5 I suppose?

Gotta love an album that criticizes Wall Street, has a song about a bomb on a plane, and another song called The Sacro-Iliac. "The Worst Band in the World" reminded me a bit of The Flaming Lips, particularly in the mixing of the vocals. "Hotel" is pretty unbearable in my opinion. It's not a good song, and certainly not good enough to justify the vague impersonation of a Jamaican accent at the beginning. Honestly, the rest of the album didn't live up to the first two tracks.

There were some fun sounds on this album and I didn't hate it, but I struggle to understand how this made the list.

Ehhh first 2 songs were pretty good, but the rest faded off into amnesia. Although still enjoyable, nothing really stuck with me except for the 2nd song, solely due to having heard parts of it before. Definitely still some good vibes though, appreciated the kinda gimmicky and humorous vibes. Think it was just a bit too all over the place, more like a bunch of singles thrown together to make an album rather than a cohesive track list. Song 2 on the album, The Worst Band in the World is sampled by J Dilla in his song Working on It, which was kinda cool to piece those two together.

More meh. I have been on a roll of not great for a while here it seems.

an interesting album, lots of different styles but enjoyed it!

some cool stuff

All over the place, a little odd but fun

Didn’t think I’d like this album, but damn Marianne Faithfull has beautifully written lyrics and I love the stories that she tells with her music. 3 Stars 6th Of January

All over the place. A lot stood out - so much so that it became tough to distinguish. Groovy but not something I'd want to listen to all that often.

Unimpressed by this pop album. Going to be generous and give it 3 stars, since I can recognize some effort here.

Kinda liked it

3/5 7.4/10 Fav: oh effendi

Solides aber unspektakuläre Songs der 70er ein wenig hui und ein wenig pfui.

I wasn’t familiar with this album at all, and had heard only a couple of the bands’ US singles in the past (I have never liked “I’m not in love”). Some of the songs on this album reminded me a little bit of Queen, with some nice harmonies. I really liked “Old wild men”, but overall this record gets three stars from me.

Svag trea.

It's fine. I like a fair few 10cc tracks, even if none of them were on this album. It's pretty disjointed however and sometimes made for a hard listen. Probably requires more active liatening than I can give it leading up to christmas.

Witty but not sonically interesting

Not the worst band in the world. But not one I’m going to spend much time thinking about once the music ends, either.

Silly, with a few songs that had interesting beats.

I know the predate TMBG, but 10CC reminds me of a cross between They Might Be Giants and Queen. Talented enough (good sining, musicianship), but they don't hook me.

Not for me

Realistically 3.5

Weird early 70s art rock. I enjoyed the joke.

Not awful, but not worth a second listen.

Strange, but not in a good way.

Fairly unique. Not bad

There was one bit that reminded me of sparks, that was cool but I’ve never heard an album so interesting yet so middle of the road

p330. 1974. 3 stars. The bastard love children of The Beatles and The Mothers of Invention. Quality 70s pop/rock with sharp lyrics, but points deducted for filler and being far too clever for their own good.

3.5 stars. Production value a little lacking/dated at times but the concept is good resulting in creative art pop. Lyrics walk fine line between clever and silly. Standouts are "The Wall Street Shuffle" and "Clockwork Creep".

Lurer litt på hvorfor noen av disse albumene blir valgt ut til denne listen til tider.. Helt greit, kanskje litt for variert for sitt eget beste. Silly Love var ganske kul.

I always wrote off 10cc as a generic dad rock band, however they are a lot weirder. There are some very strange creative choices on this album and most of them don't really pay off. This isn't a bad album, but it is a strange one. Low 3.

jdilla sampled this??? wtf

Don't remember that much of it, only that they seemed talented, but the compositions and the album were a bit all over the place

This was a fascinating listen, to say the least. There were fragments of it that I found really beautiful, and I have no doubt these musicians have some real raw talent. But as a whole it seems like they were trying to sound like Harry Nilsson but ended up coming across as an extra-corny Eagles playing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s zaniest compositions. Two of these stars are for providing J. Dilla with some great source material.

When I was 11 I discovered Weird Al Yankovich. When I was 14 I discovered Tenacious D. I never got into Spinal Tap or NRBQ. I enjoy and respect the musical talents of Frank Zappa. That being said, I've always had a space in my mind that "gets" silly music like this. That doesn't mean I enjoy it much these days. The curmudgeon that I've become respects the sound that 10cc creates. They're a good band, great even at some points. My favorite track was probably the closer, "Oh Effendi" Middle of the road, enjoyable listen that I would not return to unless I found this album in the dollar bin. 3.5

Liked about 4 songs on it

Decent classic rock album but not iconic

I got some Steely Dan vibes to start with - complex buy catchy music mixed with cynicism - and got excited. But it's more rock with show tunes than jazz and nor really my sort of thing.

Quirkier than expected, definitely that 70’s sound. Quite enjoyed.

Really unexpected in terms of how funky this was. I'd never heard of these guys, and they really brought it on this album. Tight sound, well thought out grooves and song structures. They had a message here and there, and the entire thing kept me guessing. A varied sound, but still one that felt unified throughout. A great listen, and the kind of album I do this project to discover. Three stars. Standout Tracks: The Wall Street Shuffle, Clockwork Creep, Silly Love, The Sacro-lilac

good i guess

Fairly standard pre-alternative rock offering. The music is good, but not particularly unique from my perspective. The lyrics are witty (kinda like dad joke witty), but I likely won't return to this one.

Favorite Track: Somewhere In Hollywood

This is some “dudes rock” music. A couple of dorks got together and made some very self aware jams.

Good album, tho havwnt really listened to intentionally that much and cant have a proper review yet so i m gonna come back.

Good album

Some solid rock tracks mixed with some more weird of avant garde elements. Some of the tracks feel very modern in their messaging.

Very whimsical and at times musical-sounding album

sounds like the beatles. 3.5

Stundtals toppen, stundtals lite småpajigt men överlag najs.

This album is like most by 10cc. It has a couple of highlights but generally there's too much filler for me. Also it's a bit dated. I love 10cc but I like a curated set rather than a whole album

like it

A fun album which has basically a different genre for each song, kind of like Queen but a lot more goofy and parodical. They also don’t really apply the ideas all too well in comparison as it feels like they don’t have a clear song set out and instead just incorporate all the ideas in a convoluted way. The guitar tone is pretty awful as well, sounds like something out of Kiss. When the ideas work though they work well but there’s only a few songs on here that really do. All in all though it’s clearly a non-serious parody album for the most part which sounds like they’re mostly just having fun and even claiming themselves to be the worst band in the world. Favourites: The wall street shuffle, Hotel (despite the questionable lyrics sometimes) and Oh Effendi. Overall, 6/10.

Very cool - spotted a few tracks used as samples (Dilla, etc).

This was a decent album, never heard it before but pretty standard rock and roll

At times I felt it jumped around a little too much but I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of some of the beach boys/Beetles stuff with more modern instrumentation. Pretty solid album with high highs I'd give it a 3.5 if i could

“Art Rock” truly is the best way to describe whatever kind of music this is.

Is this for kids or for Broadway?

A lot of different styles on this, but overall an enjoyable listen.

10cc seems to be a band that had their vision limited by the technology that they had access to at the time. The bands they had an influence on (and I refuse to believe that 100 gecs is not among them) have been able to leverage what they were trying to get at with some modern electronic music and synths. If this was purely on its influence, 4 stars. But I have to dock a point for Hotel. That's not a good song for the exoticism tropes it leans too heavily into.

Not sure how to really rate this, mix of genres and the album is all over the place, but it is also fun and enjoyable in parts. Overall, I would say I enjoyed the chaos.

Lots of ideas going on here, but a bit of fun overall

Fun album

Sheet Music is definitely an album i have mixed feelings on, almost like a love hate relationship with it. It simultaneously has great moments and horrible moments. There are some genuinely fantastic melodies on display here and when the instruments sound good, they can sound really good, and i liked how each song had a completely different vibe from each other. The main issue is the fact that when the instruments sound bad, they sound really bad. What is it with 70s rock artists and them feeling the need to commit musical war crimes by distorting their guitars? Saw it once with Mike Oldfield and i saw it again here. Anyways, rant aside, Its a solid listen marred by a couple of poor choices. Best Song: The Wall Street Shuffle Worst Song: Old Wild Men

Sjov musik, men ikke noget der fik mig fuldstændig vundet over. Der var ikke et nummer der sagde wow til mig. Det er dog stadig et fint album. 6/10

…speaking of Paul McCartney & Wings, did anyone get a whiff of borrowed piano riffs on the first song? No big deal, yet everyone’s shitting on Taylor for her creative interpretation of Where Is My Mind, sad emoji. I enjoyed this album, in the same way I enjoy listening to Ween. Will listen again

A little comedic. They wrote what they wanted.

Production value super high. Beautiful harmonies. Cool changes. Heavy McCartney vibes. Dug.

I haven't heard anything quite like this before!

-not at all my thing tbh. sounds kind of like The Beach Boys meet corny 80s synth pop and i honestly couldn’t listen to some of these songs without cringing -that being said. it has a certain whimsical quality and creativity i can’t help but respect and i certainly wasn’t bored listening to it. it gets points for that i suppose -Favorites are Silly Love and The Sacro-Iliac

Inconsistent

I waffled on this. One minute I liked it. One minute I hated it. One minute I loved it.

All over the place. Not bad but not great.

I’m not weird enough for this.

The Wall Street Shuffle 3.8 The Worst Band in the World 4 Hotel 3.3 Old Wild Men 3.5 Clockwork Creep 3.2 Silly Love 3.7 Somewhere in Hollywood 3.4 Baron Samedi 3.3 The Sacro-lliac 3.3 Oh Effendi 3 Score: 3.45

Decent listen

Heard future shades of of Montreal, Oingo Boingo, and Primus. I enjoyed the whole listen while only really liking one actual song (creepy clock man or whatever it’s called). Tambo on 80% of this.

The worst band in the world is one of the weirdest songs to make it into this list. i didn't hate this tbf.

Had no idea 10cc were so proggy

Best songs: The Worst Band In The World, Hotel and Clockwork Creep.

Like a combination of Queen and Supertramp.

well, it wasn't awful. 2.5 rounding up

I've heard the hits off this album before, mostly familiar with 'Wall Street Shuffle.' I've always liked the art-pop production of that song. This album has some quirky directions in it, not exactly what I was expecting but definitely something that I'm likely to revisit. 3/5

Technically impressive, fun listen with clear Beatles DNA, but it doesn’t leave a mark.

10cc capta en les seves cançons sons i dinàmiques que en altres contextos seran pedres angulars de l'època.

Album #1 I listen for this project. Overall pretty cool one - imho, quintessentially 70s rock. It has pretty diverse tracks, at times giving Beatles, ELO, at times giving Queen, Santana, Mike Oldfield, Supertramp, Beach Boys... I do not get the super negative comments for this one, I believe it stands its business and has aged pretty well, though I'll concede that its eclecticism might not be appealing for everyone. I have not listened to the lyrics in detail but it seems like it's quite a fun and cool album to vibe to. Though they very obviously make fun of themselves, the music has some very interesting sounds to pay attention to. Fav tracks: Baron Samedi, Old Wild Men and Oh Effendi.

Back to back silly brits, this after Ian Dury. Sophistipop. Avantpop? Genre remains dumb. Anyway they are doing some interesting stuff some fun lyrics some beatles inspired singing - I didn't know Paul had a brother but he was recording an album while this was being recorded. Pauls brother.

Two songs in and these motherfuckers are already scared to say the word 'shit'

Only one listen so this is probably unfair, but it's not really my era of music and the extremely melodic rock washed over me somewhat, though I know from older peers that they hold this in very high esteem. I think this washes over those who were born after it was released who are more influenced by post punk music.

The bomb

My daughter liked it.

There is a lot of silliness on this album, but its really endearing. Commitment to the melodramatic is stark. As a collection of songs nothing really sticks out but it rattles along and merits further listens

70’s music is my favourite so this is a great place to start! — Okay, so. I absolutely loved the first song, The Wall Street Shuffle, and immediately added it to my August 2025 playlist. Really fucking good song. The album kind of nosedived for me after that BUT I think with a few more listens, it might grow on me. I adore 70’s music so I’m willing to give it a few more chances to really grip me. It’s not a bad album by any means, it just didn’t hook me the way I expected it to.

Nice sound but samey after a while

It’s like a wacky Paul McCartney album

This album has given me more trouble than any other I've listened to so far. When I first threw it on, I was immediately gripped by the size and clarity of the production. I thought, "Wow, this one might knock me on my ass." Then one of the singers came in with a silly voice that sounded like a child imitating the school principal and I wasn't so sure anymore. That was a microcosm of my experience with the entire album, really. Brilliant sections of pristine pop melodies and harmonies crossed with inane goofball carnival music crossed with some cool rock & roll sections crossed with some wacky vaudeville shit you wanna throw tomatoes at. I listened through twice, bopping my head and scratching it in equal parts. By the end, I still could not decide whether I enjoyed it or not. However, I can tell you for certain that this is a talented, interesting band that had the stones to go for it...whatever the hell "It" is. In fact, they went for many "its"--sometimes several at once. I give them plenty of credit for that. I may have even liked the album. Who the hell knows? 3.5/5

This is a brave album, very chaotic but equally fun

Personally I wasn’t a fan but the instrumentals were interesting

Didnt mind, hotel had fun lyrics

70's pop rock with some art/prog thrown in. Good, not great.

Such a dynamic mix of music! Some songs i vibed with more than others but i cannot deny their great harmonizing reminiscent of the beach boys!! They feel quirky and indie but yet rock with a lil yacht and a lil art pop. I think i wanna listen to more of their music on other albums because "marriage bureau rendezvous" from a diff album started playing after this one ended and i appreciated it and liked immediately. I feel like i wanna give this a 3.5

I remember listening to a few 10cc albums when I was a kid. I think they were a little more popular in my area (PNW) because of the proximity to Canada. Quite a few artists who were big in the UK but not big in the US got more than the normal amount of exposure in this part of the country because of FM radio from Vancouver BC. This record wasn't bad but didn't do much for me.

Weird for weird's sake. A few high notes, tho.

Never heard this album before and have never heard of this group. It's surprisingly pretty good and easy to listen to. Interesting music with creative beats and a somehow totally different style that I have heard before. The vocals are really nice with some really soaring parts. There is also a nice synth/guitar sound that I enjoyed.

That was an okay experience. Album is all over the place. 3/5

ADHD in album form. These cats are all over the place. It’s fun yet maddening at the same time.

essentially an edgier pet sounds

pretty cool, but don't think I will listen to it again. Not bad but not extra good either

A strange and idiosyncratic album with a big 60s pop rock sound. Nice harmonies.

Album 828 of 1089 10cc - Sheet Music (1974) Rating : 3 / 5 Some wonderfully zany British pop here. I went in expecting something more basic and radio-friendly, but was pleasantly surprised by how unique and inventive this album is. I already knew 10cc from their hit “I’m Not In Love,” but this is a whole different animal—quirky, clever, and full of unexpected turns. Definitely fun, and enjoyable enough that I’ll be coming back to this one again.

It was okay

Pretty neutral on this album, starting off extremely strong with The Wall Street Shuffle, which is just a banger of a classic rock song. After that though, the silly art rock comes out, which to me feels like more "high art" versions of gimmick classic rock songs like Mr. Roboto by Styx or Ocean Man by Ween (I know that was 1997 though). Like if David Bowie wanted to make Ringo Starr type goofy songs. Good, but not really something I'd go back to.

I like music to be moving / sad / powerful / joyful - I do not like music to be funny. Its not what I am looking for. I enjoyed large parts of this album - some great hooks and melodies- but found the humour/ novelty elements took me out of the music too much.

Maybe the only band named after semen other than Pearl Jam and country singer Willy Glue. I've a soft spot for 10cc and Godley and Creme, cos my Dad used to play their greatest hits on vinyl quite a lot. I am partial to their brand of bonkers pop; your Dreadlock Holidays, your I'm Mandy Fly Mes, your Life is a Minestrones, your Things We Do for Loves and your Rubber Bulletses... Of this album only the first track, the highly Wings-esque 'The Wall Street Shuffle' was on those greatest hits (the synth break from 1.55 is pure Macca, almost ripped wholesale from Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five). It a classic, twisting and turning 10cc track, great pop melodies emanating at every second. Marvelous. Sampleable riff aside, 'The Worst Band in the World' is pretty weak. Come on fellas, just say 'shit' - you're 30 years old or something! It all just about transcends novelty. Their pop craftsmanship is unquestionable; although their theatrical leanings may be something of an acquired taste. Overall I enjoyed this, and it has real moments of genius.

The Wall Street Shuffle was an interesting start, I get it a criticism of Wall Street, but it also felt really obvious criticism and it rhymed but not that deep. Which seems like it followed all the way through on the lyrics. They were critical but not all that deep, which I don't think always worked with their more dramatic music (like in Hotel). Clockwork Creep did make me bounce a little. It is really eclectic but also palatable. Sometimes it felt really disjointed and all over the place. I don't think its worth a 2 but also not sure I want to give it a 3. It didn't hurt my ear, but there was something inherently juvenile about the album.

This was umm.. interesting. I think the instrumentation is great. The songwriting is creative, at times funny. But are the songs GOOD?...well... I don't know. They kind of sound like Queen's less talented cousin. There's a lot of frantic gear shifting in the songs and they don't really hold together that well. I liked Clockwork Creep and Silly Love. As an aging rocker with a bad back, I appreciate the humor of Sacro-illiac. Maybe that one cuts a little too close to the bone.

10cc sound like the exact middle ground between Queen and Supertramp on this album. That’s definitely not a bad thing, it just feels like they don’t have their own sound. This album, all in all, is quite enjoyable if slightly forgettable.

Nice crispy guitar right at the beginning. Nice.

Upbeat, fun (pre-Queen?) mild rock, but not mind blowing or that noteworthy.

Once I got past the cringiness of it, I quite enjoyed the album, quirky, fun and good spirited.

This is super quirky and interesting. Lots of good ideas presented, but not everything works. Reminds me of both XTC and The Beach Boys. Hotel reminds of Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard. J Dilla cooked when turning The Worst Band In The World into Workinonit.

I got their live album in 1978 or 79 when I was 12 and absolutely loved it! It was rocky, poppy and soppy with clever lyrics and great musicianship. Only recently listened to their earlier studio albums and found them a bit patchy but this one is a lot more consistently enjoyable.

Started brilliantly and thought i was going to love it. Back half was a bit of a slot but one or two saves.

Ta chulo

I’m sure interesting in its time, but now just mostly annoying.

Pretty decent record but nothing that really interested me.

I could possibly give it some more listens. Some tracks stood out, but some were a little too silly for my taste. Overall okay, but not clicking on first listen

01) The Wall Street Shuffle - 7,0 02) The Worst Band in the World - 6,5 03) Hotel - 6,0 04) Old Wild Men - 5,5 05) Clockwork Creep - 5,5 06) Silly Love - 6,0 07) Somewhere in Hollywood - 6,5 08) Baron Samedi - 6,0 09) The Sacro-Iliac - 6,5 10) Oh Effendi - 6,5 TOTAL: 6,20 (62/100)

A fun album.

It has some interesting moments but wasn’t enough to really save the album.

1974. Kind of a fun Frank Zappa sounding story album. Very creative in its concept.

Was I expecting too much? Obviously I know of their most played track "Dreadlock Holiday", "I'm Not In Love"... etc, but that's about all I do know of 10CC. It started out well with "The Wall Street Shuffle", but then it felt like I was in some Rockified musical west end theatre production. Perhaps the heat is getting to me on this unusually hot May Friday afternoon. "Baron Samedi" is pretty decent and there is some decent musicianship, otherwise that's it.

Nice safe album

i already listen to this one before using this to track my list progress The Wall Street Shuffle - 5/5 The Worst Band In The World - 3/5 Hotel - 2/5 Old Wild Men - 3/5 Clockwork Creep - 3/5 Silly Love - 3/5 Somewhere In Hollywood - 3/5 Baron Samedi - 4/5 The Sacro-iliac - 4/5 Oh Effendi - 2/5 Average score: 3.2/5 this was okay i guess. i'd even go as far as to say it was a somewhat entertaining listen. however, i wouldn't say it was all that revolutionary overall, nor something i feel i should've heard before i died i really wanted to like this more than i did. similar to what others have said here, these tracks are all over the place. i don't think they're necessarily trying to bite the style of their contemporaries (Queen, ELO, maybe even Yes?), but it sounded like they were trying anything and everything here. it sounded really busy and in-cohesive as a result

6/10 - the songs were all decently unique but nothing was fantastic

Fine. A little bit too much going on though, couldn’t really get into it

Hmmmmm

Complete

Just realised this is exactly what Weezer would have done in the 70s, they even sound so similar in the third song. Saw one of the guys on the review thing say that they have 1000 ideas for a song and do them all at the same time, which I can hear, but it does work out quite a lot of the time. Some bits are like Queen, and some more beatles. its pretty fun, nothing mind-blowing, as some songs are just a bit nothing or the singing is quite annoying. Favourite songs: the wall street shuffle, hotel, old wild men, Baron Samedi Overall around 6/10

What did I just listen to? That was such a weird album that was all over the place. It kind of reminded me of Ween. Honestly musically/instrumentally, it wasn't bad and there were parts that I thought were pretty good but overall I think it was just a bit too silly and a little too all over the place. I was intrigued but then I just got a bit tired of it by the end. It was hard to take anything seriously.

This is a silly record. Its fun and whimsical. They lyrics are goofy and silly, the music is pretty varied. I loved the tone on the guitar in the first song, but then it kind of moves on from that and explores genres and sounds. Kind of reminds me of Frank Zappa. Frank Zappa annoys me. This also kind of annoys me.

It's decent but there's at least a couple other 10cc albums I'd put on here before this one. It does start off very strong with the first couple songs, but it does get pretty spotty the rest of the way. It's still unique enough that it keeps my interest throughout but I do like campy British music more than most Rating: 3.3

fun “yacht rock” style album.

Strong start, some really unique structures and lyricism. Enjoyed but couldn’t rush back to. Very well produced though with some excellent drum sounds

Fun little rock album. Comedic lyrics mixed with chill rock instrumentals make this a great record. Sometimes, the vocals can be a bit too brash, and there are points where the music sounds bland and uninteresting, but still a great little album.

i was not in the right headspace to listen to this album. i was pretty down while listening and it’s a generally super happy album. so perhaps i should revisit on a sunny day.

Unique, but just failing to see how this is one of the 1000 best

Pretty good fun. Didn't realise this was the origin of J Dilla's 'Workin on it' sample. Strays at times perilously close to Frank Zappa territory; which I'm sure some people might like.

C'est ok

J aurais pus mettre 4 mais finalement, l'album n'est pas si marquant.

début très sympa midgame un peu boring (les gars se sont pris pour queen) et la fin est bien surtout baron samedi

Lots of great ideas but not cohesive or coherent

Chill kinda bita groov

it was fun! dani likes this band

There are some bands I'm prepared to give a lot of listening time to in order to like an album. 10cc are one of those. Their singles were always quirky and different, immaculately produced and they are clearly all great songwriters. I have listened to this album 3 times and am half way through the 4th. Generally it’s more of the same quirkiness, though sometimes I think they can sometimes be a little too smart for their own good. Worst Band In The World & Clockwork Creep get a little silly and tedious and are more what I would expect from Barron Knights (a ‘comedy’ group) than 10cc. But overall I liked what I heard. I wanted to like it more though.

Pretty fun album, about what I was expecting

I might buy an earlier version of this. This remaster is horrible. Album it's self is kitsch like an earlier version of squeeze.

“The Wall Street Shuffle” is the most commercial sounding anti-capitalist song I’ve ever heard. It’s very strange. “Hotel” is just “Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard”. Completely able to tune out the is whole album if I so chose. When I chose to tune in, I enjoyed what I heard, but I guess not enough to keep me interested for too long. The production is good. Original and unique. I enjoy it. Lyrics, instrumentation, and vocals are all fine. Ultimately, I’m left feeling unimpressed. 3/5

I definitely know of this band. Have listened to a track or two. Interested to see what an album sounds like.

Like, a light 3? More of a 2.75 but I found this unexpected and interesting for the most part, even if I didn’t vibe with all of it. I always thought 10cc was a classic rock group but this is weirder and more experimental and often intentionally funny?? Like, full on comedy songs! Plus it was blessedly short! It’s an interesting little curio!

This was fun. I've heard one track by this band before, but I didn't actually know their name. I never would have guessed this is a 2007 album, the sound is very 70s-coded, and the whole album works really well as a unit. It's definitely something that's up my alley and I will be returning to more of 10cc's discography.

I mean this affectionately: W h a t.

Not what I expected. The only 10cc I know is very ethereal sounding. This is much more traditional pop/rock. Pretty good.

Never heard any of this before! Lots of silly songs here but I'm sure that was the intention and it's nice to hear from a group that isn't too self serious. I probably would not listen to it again personally, but I can see why others would.

alright

10cc is a funny band to me. I had heard of Godley and Creme from their mega-hit "Cry", and I had heard of 10cc's "I'm Not In Love", but never really dug into their other albums and music. So after listening to this album, I kind of liked it. It was definitely going for a prog-rock vibe but seemed a bit too glam rock for that. Overall, not terrible but just OK in my book. 2.5/5 = 3.

This is a high 3 for me, almost a 4. Surprised the hell out of me. Every song here feels wholly unique from the last, for better and for worse. The only reason I’m not giving this 4 stars is because more often than not, I don’t think the ideas work very well. However, the songs I do like, I REALLY REALLY like. “The Wall Street Shuffle”, “The Worst Band In The World” and “Baron Samedi” are all fantastic songs. It’s always super cool diving into a band and album I’ve genuinely never heard of before in any capacity. If there were more songs on this album I absolutely loved, this would be an easy 4 for me, but more than anything I think it was cool just how many different ideas got tried out at all. It made for a consistently fun listening experience during my day whenever the album would restart. I may explore more of this band in the future.

Didn't really love this but it was okay

This is a decent album. I'd never heard of 10cc, but they sound very much like the 70s. I'm going 3/5 because it's not bad, but not great either.

Nice pop album

This is like a less weird version of Zappa. I dig it.

Definitely had some interesting tunes. 5/10

Rating: 6/10 Experimental pop that sounds pretty good as well.

#549. I've never listened to 10cc before, but for some reason I thought they were like some kind of new wave or electronica or something. Turns out they were just making regular radio rock the whole time. This album is a bit goofy at times, but it's pretty decent overall. 3/5: acceptable

vibey but weird

I'm sure I'm not the only one initially wishing "I'm Not In Love" was here, but ok obscure (for 2025) 10cc album show me the way... Hmmm this is immediately musically intriguing in a mid-Roxy period way. These 70s bands could all freaking play and write complex pop songs. I'm not sure there was anyone like these guys - maybe Sparks? This kind of musical creativity is just not matched today; sounds like a "back in my day" treatise but seriously - just listen to the first minute *alone* of "The Wall Street Shuffle" - the arrangement, the chord changes, dynamics - I miss this in too much of modern music. Having said that ... That's the good, and that creativity does carry through most if not all of the album, but here's the bad: the humour is so forced and frankly terrible. Outside of maybe The Tubes and *some* Zappa, attempts at being humourous usually just end up lame (e.g. "The Worst Band In The World") or worse. Is Oh Effendi (aka "Oh Offensive?") dumb or anti-arabic or just both? So upon 2nd listen I hear a similar energy and controlled insanity to similar-era albums from Sparks, but not as many quality songs. Overall it starts strong and peters out over the last few songs but these lyrics are too ditracting - melody almost always wins out for me and there's a ton of complex melody here to re-listen to maybe 5 songs but HAVE I MENTIONED I NOTICE THE LYRICS. It's a bad thing. I'd listen to a few tracks again for sure but might be a slog to get through the entire album... 6/10 3 stars.

Fun album, with some fun songs, but also some boring ones

Goofy, but fun lyrics. Alright rock from the era

It's an OK early 70's pop/rock album. It reminds me a little of the Nilson Schmilsson album (which was released 3 years earlier) for the fact that it's eclectic and at time kind of goofy.

Fun, good performances, but too cheesy for my tastes.

Ok. Wow. There's a lot going on here. So many time signature changes, vocal layers, song sections and subjects. No doubt these guys can write and produce completely original tunes but for me the album was all over the place.

I was very impressed with this album. It has two of my favorite things: it has a lot of variety and it has a reasonable runtime. I wasn’t blown away by every track and there was like a few tracks that weren’t as strong as others. But this made me look deeper into this band and they are definitely interesting. That being said by the next day I had forgotten most of the songs on this album. Still enjoyed it but wasn’t life changing.

# 438 : 18/03/2025 : Not as bad as I thought it would be. I found it rather happy and catchy in parts. Not too shabby.

WORKINONIT

Wel leuk, maar ze hebben beter.

Kept me interested, mainly because it was all over the place. More of a concept album and probably the reason why it’s been sampled by others. Liked the worst band in the world sonically.

Until now the only thing I have ever heard from 10cc was "I'm Not In Love" which isn't on this album unfortunately. I now realize that as good as that song is it's not a great representation of this band's sound. These guys are wacky and I love it. I'm surprised by the relatively low rating. This album is fun! 10cc is very humorous especially on songs like the self deprecating "The Worst Band In The World" and my personal favorite "Clockwork Creep". I could see this rating go up in the future. Favorite track: Clockwork Creep 7cc/10cc

Bit of a crazy album.. never knew what was gonna happen next!! The Worst Band in the World had some pretty incredible sounds but kinda annoying vox/lyrics lol

Weird but also kinda boring

this was a really weird album lol... never encountered this band! funny ones

It’s fine. More unique than a lot of the other stuff, I guess.

This album is fine. Nothing to really dislike about it but not a whole lot of moments to like either. A couple of times I found myself enjoying a part of a song but it was short lived. Not really sure it needs to be on this list. 5.25/10 (2.625/5)

I’m glad 10cc exist. They do some mad and interesting stuff. I like to listen closely. But is it great? No.

Meh the hits are enjoyable but a whole album felt a bit like a slog

Is there such a thing as a guilty pleasure? If yes, then I would describe 10cc as mine….good album, enjoyed it in a nostalgic kind of way.

Not bad

Confident strumming With light hearted song lyrics Performed in glam lights

This sounds familiar, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard them. “Hotel” starts strange and trippy and then sounds like “uncle John’s band”. I didn’t like this when it started, but songs keep popping up that grab my attention. The production of this album does not sound like 1974. It feels pretty modern. This gets so weird at times. Sometimes it feels like when tv writers who are out of touch write songs for an “era”.

Pretty good for novelty songs, but still, novelty songs.

Eeeehhhhhhhhh. Fun at times. Annoying at times.

Wall Street Shuffle and Worst Band In The World were a great way to start the album. Then after Hotel it starts to get sort of weird. Then Clockwork Creep makes it very weird. Even with the weirdness, I thought the music and production were really good throughout. Feels like a solid 3 and would've merited consideration for a 4 if I liked another song or two from the back half of this album.

Not bad

Love that they go for it. Goofy and bizarre in places. But I’d rather listen to something like this than an album that’s 15 versions of the same song. 3/5

Knew walstreet shuffle. Rest is good too.

Wow. Silly

Goeie band. Lekker rustige pop-rock muziek. "The Wall Street Shuffle" klinkt heerlijk en de rest is prima te luisteren.

Music was ok, some of the lyrics were a bit weird

It was hard not to award this album 5 stars, given its historical significance as the only album on this list that El G has seen performed live in it's entirety by a cover band. However, despite it's cultural status, it was bang average for me.

Sheet music? More like Shite Music. Only joking it was aight. The big black mama in a tree was a choice.

This was very enjoyable. Quirky and different but very listenable. Hope to return.

I never realised 10cc's music was weird. I liked the variety and the lighthearted approach to their songs but it didn't really do particularly much for me. Rating: 3

Kitchen sink-type rock music. They are doing the most. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but it is consistently interesting to listen to.

Rock, Pop, 1974 -> 3

I nrecognised that one song J Dilla sampled, otherwise this was pretty tedious to middling.

This is the sheet

Strange sounding album with a really weird singer. Started off sounding like Faces or something like that with some nice guitar. But then got quite weird. Still not horrible but probably a low 3

Not too bad, some of it rocked. Not really my style.

This was a pleasant album!

"Sheet Music" is the second album by English band 10cc. The Wiki-listed genres are art pop, pop rock, avant pop and progressive pop. Yeah, they all fit. 10cc are Eric Stewart, Graham Gouldman, Kevin Godley and Lol Creme. They all co-wrote the songs with every possible combination of all four band members. They also all take turns on lead and backing vocals and playing the instruments which include guitars, bass, drums, various percussion instruments, piano, organ, mellotron, bells, synths and more. Commercially, the album hit #9 in the UK and #81 in the UK. "The Wall Street Shuffle" opens the album. A power rock guitar riff, prancing piano and mellotron. Stewart on lead vocals but there are various member backing vocals throughout. Tounge-and-cheek lyrics on making money on Wall St. And we're not nearly done with the tongue and cheek. Enter "The Worst Band in the World." It's slower with drums. Guitar slashes. This is a Lol Creme song. Very avant garde. Very Zappa-esque. An eerie synth with bird and space noises begins "Hotel." It then switches to a Carribean sounding-song with an acoustic guitar, a funky bass, bongos and congas. Godfrey with a falsetto singing about buying a hotel. Lots of coconut references. All four band members take turn on lead vocals in "Clockwork Creep." The music is antsy as the lyrics describe the final minutes in a countdown of a bomb detonating on a jumbo jet. The band let's loose in "Silly Love." A fast pace and a heavy guitar. Their most rockin' song. Bells chiming and a piano open the dramatic "Somewhere in Hollywood." This song goes all over the place. It's dreamy in parts. There's a wah-wah guitar. It's the story of a woman making it or maybe not making it as an actress in Hollywood. I'm not sure what I just listened to. I found this album interestingly confusing. The music, vocals and lyrics reminded me of a combination of Sparks, Frank Zappa and Queen. I think the lyrics are more tongue-in-cheek than parody. There's no doubt these guys can sing and play instruments. The songs change styles through the album and sometimes within songs. I'd like to give this album a few more spins to see if there's anything deeper but I'm too exhausted. Some may this album brilliant. Some may hate it. And some may be confused like me. Listen to it and see where you fall....or not.

Most of it was good and reminded me of the Beatles.

a little too quirky at times, but overall a fine listen

I own this album, but I didn't buy it and I'm not sure I would have listened to it if it wasn't in my collection. 10cc is best known for the radio hit, "I'm Not In Love", which isn't on Sheet Music and I have to admit I wasn't a fan. Apart from a few singles on Sheet Music, Wall Street Shuffle, Silly Love, Worst Band...", the album is a bit thin and has more filler than killer. Wall Street Shuffle might even be my favourite 10cc song and I appreciate the humor and sarcastic view of the band, but it's not enough to provide a solid enough record to justify being on this list. I good album, but far from essential.

Some musics had a good vibe but not all of them.

Not often do i find an album that makes me think "what the hell did I just listen to?" I think this is one of the most unique albums we've heard so far. Really unpredictable. I thought i was listening to the radio.. so many genres. Some songs were really good, some others not that much. I think this is a 3.5

A bit weird, a bit interesting

This was odd, it was sometimes really eccentric and fun, other times quite bland. First half of the album was the best and it got progressively worse I think. There were lots of little bits I like but not many full songs so I don't think I'd come back. 2.5.

After reading about the band and the members, the album starts to make sense. All were multi-instrumentalists, singers, and producers. This album veers between boring pop, quite innovative concept rock, and "reggae". The Wall Street Shuffle and Baron Samedi stuck out, however the rest largely passed me by. Reminds me of a blander Yes.

brings me back to my 6a mopey prog/album rock phase

I'm not sure if this benefits from my J Dilla bias, but I enjoyed this. It's a little all over the place, but I kind of don't mind it here. It feels like what my music might sound like if I knew a little more music theory and just let the ADHD do the talking. Also, maybe I'm crazy, but I'm hearing some Nilsson influence in a few of these tracks. Weird to hear that coupled with distorted guitars more akin to Kiss or T Rex. And then there are the pseudo-yacht rock vocal elements. This is wild, but I'm here for it.

不好说(

It’s kind of silly and self deprecating which I always like but I don’t know how much I like this. 2.5

Some ok tracks but not really anything memorable.

I didn't think I would like it at first, but it grew on me.

Interesting album. Decent listen

some okay glam dad rock. I like worst band in the world and somewhere in hollywood. wall street shuffle is dumb but catchy. Kind of like a Sparks mixed with some ELO or T. Rex.

A little too much "rock opera" for my taste.

“It's one thing to know it but another to admit We're the worst band in the world”

Very original sounding band. Very keen on them although this isn't one of their best albums. The singles that were released from it are actually the best tracks from the album, which isn't always the case, in this instance it was.

Er, I honestly don’t know what to make of this one. I’m not averse to a bit of quirkiness but I’m not really feeling their sense of humour and it does go a bit musical theatre at times. Want to give it a 2.5

Interesting, very prog a bit Supertrampy but quite enjoyable. That's why I've heard of these guys, they made the cricket song.

Filled an hour long didi ride, might listen to it again, might not.

Ovo je jako intersantan i eklektičan bend. Nisam ovaj album sluša prije

I've never heard of them nor heard them before, and while it's not earth-shattering it's entertaining and oddly eclectic. I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say that this album was "perhaps the most widely adventurous album" of 1974, but then again I don't know 1974 music very well, and there's certainly more range on this album than the opening track would suggest (although I think "The Wall Street shuffle" is probably their best on this album, closely followed by the last song "Oh Effendi"). I liked the hints of Elton John (mainly in the "Worst band in the world"), Simon & Garfunkel or maybe just Simon (mainly with "Hotel"), maybe a bit of early Queen ("Silly love" and "Baron Samedi") and some bits of Yes/ELP/Genesis (especially with "Somewhere in Hollywood", although it's mainly just some weird prog cabaret nonsense (so maybe *exactly* Yes/ELP/Genesis), Billy Joel ("Oh Effendi") and others in various songs, but it often felt a bit like a novelty album as they ping-pong from genre to genre. I *am* surprised that we didn't get one of their albums with a major hit (like their instantly recognizable "I'm not in love"), but maybe this had the right kind of medley for the book's editors? Reading about how they created and funded their Strawberry Studios explains a lot about this album, though. Apparently they convinced a couple of bubblegum-pop producers to use their studio for three months straight and use them as session musicians, and they churned out dozens of apparently horrid songs with random titles and band names, and were able to upgrade the studio with the proceeds. It feels a bit like they never quite got out of that mode in making "Sheet Music".

Sure! I'm glad they had fun Didn't hate this, didn't love it. I organised paperwork during it, and that felt right. 2.75/5 Added Wall Street Shuffle to my playlist. A good choice to begin the album with that one I'd say The Saro-Iliac was a fun song as well. A late addition to the playlist

3/5. I read the wiki and saw this was heavily inspired by Paul McCartney and I thought I was listening to a side project until about halfway through. Now I enjoy Paul every now and then but it's not the best style of music and an album dedicated to that sound that isn't McCartney feels weird. The songs were good and enjoyable but I don't think it's perfect or even for me all the time. I would recommend to anyone who likes the Beatles, or Queen even, but that's it. It's fun as part of a playlist but the whole album can be a little jarring. Best Song: The Worst Band In The World, Wall Street Shuffle, Baron Samedi

I knew 10CC were always held in high regard for their early stuff as being quite artsy. But never heard anything beyond the hits. "Things We Do For Love" etc. This album surprised me. I enjoyed it. It was a bit strange and humurous and clearly they dont take themselves too seriously. A fun album.

Well, the second song on this album certainly made me sit up and listen, since it supplies the samples for a J Dilla song off Donuts. The rest of the album was fine. It didn't blow me away, but it was interesting enough 3/5

Wasn't feeling it at 1st, but it really grows on you. Strong craving for donuts, currently working on it.

Strange and different but alright to listen to. Low 3*

Goofy album, kinda gave MGMT vibes. Didn't think I would like at first but ended up enjoying quite a bit! Fav song: Baron Samedi

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: The Wall Street Shuffle, The Worst Band In The World, Hotel, Clockwork Creep, Baron Samedi Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: When the band with a dude who goes by "Lol Creme" that joked that they were named after the average amount of semen is making goofy ass music :0

original songs but not 4 yet

If you liked this, you might also like: Brian Eno, Talking Heads, Jack Stauber, and Harry Nilsson.

Terminally 70s rock music that also takes itself not at all seriously. As a result you have a fun album that is however a bit dumb and unnecessarily self-deprecating, which is forgivable.

it had some weird bits.

i have zero thoughts on this actually. the only actual real thought is that it sounded a lot like Queen. i don't think i needed to hear this before i died

There are five songs worth of ideas in each track and they somehow manage to make it work half the time which is fairly impressive. 3/5

Chill, easy to listen to. Doesn't feel ground breaking, but good for long drives or a backyard BBQ. Some of it is forgettable.

The Wall Street Shuffle // The Worst Band In The World // 2.5/5

This is basically the worst part of a lot of really good bands — the flat ballads of Alan Parsons, the boomer blues of Toto and the overly quirky showtunes from ABBA. It came before all of them, so thank you for almost ruining my favourite bands. Still a well-made record though, but it wouldn't hurt to take yourselves a bit more seriously.

The lyrics and music seemed very quirky. But not in a great way. It’s hard to believe this is the “I’m Not In Love” band. It definitely is one of those “of the time” albums. It was just kinda meh for me. Second side was better than the first. Top tracks: “Somewhere In Hollywood,” “Baron Samedi” Too tracks:

Great sound. No singles like a lot of these albums so I guess they never took off for that reason

An interesting listen, but not outstanding in my opinion. Hotel was the only song that really grabbed me. It’s still probably the best album from 10cc that I’ve listened to, and not bad by any stretch, but it doesn’t offer much to me even after a couple listens.

I won’t lie, I was excited to realize that one of these songs formed the basis for one of my favorite J Dilla tracks. But that was the high point of my listening experience.

Pretty weird, eclectic album from the band who did "I'm Not in Love" and "Things We Do For Love." There was some decent and amusing stuff here. I liked the line in The Sacro-Iliac, "Don't want to annoy ya with my paranoia."

When I first heard “Sheet Music”, prog-rock and camp theatrical music were totally my thing. I adored Queen and had committed every one of their albums to memory. I couldn’t get enough of Genesis’s mythical storytelling, ELO’s instrumental excess, Kate Bush’s pantomime tendencies, and so on. And yet, this sophomore album by 10cc left me mostly cold. About nine years later, I still really like all the other aforementioned bands, but this album remains an utter mixed bag for me. If I was ever going to love it, I think it would have happened a long time ago. On the plus side, the musicianship is remarkably assured, with particular praise going to Eric Stewart for his guitar solos (great all round, but especially in “Hotel”, “Old Wild Men”.) All four band members tag in and out on lead and backing vocals, which are skilfully done, and they all play an impressive range of instruments which gives the album a dense palate. The best songs here are the ones which don’t resort to gimmickry: “The Wall Street Shuffle” is an impressive opening with a good balance between hard-glam and Broadway theatre, while “Silly Love”, “Somewhere In Hollywood” and “The Sacro-Iliac” all have their moments across their berserk journeys. So, the main problem? Without a doubt, the humour. If you’ve ever been unfortunate enough to be trapped in a conversation with a budding stand-up comic, you’ll know how they treat every line of dialogue like a punchline, every single interaction as a trial for their next show. It quickly becomes exhausting, and I have the same feeling listening to “Sheet Music”. Only, 10cc come across especially obnoxious, because they’re trying to prove their superior senses of humour while also showing off their (admittedly very impressive) musical proficiency. Musical ideas don’t stick around for long at all before we zoom giddily along to the next one. I don’t normally mind this kind of eclecticism, but something about the band’s delivery makes the constant hopping around feel contrived and hollow. “The Worst Band In The World” draws out a tedious gag around profanity (tee-hee, they almost said “shit!” But then they didn’t! Har-har-har!!!) “Hotel” swings into a calypso leaning rhythm with some fairly alarming racist undertones; “Old Wild Men” has the gall to take aim at Led Zeppelin for being washed up; then there’s “Clockwork Creep”: a great concept (a song from the perspective of a bomb on an aeroplane) ruined by its incredibly irritating vocal line and “tick tock tick tock” refrain. Just blow the damn thing up. So, camp tongue-in-cheek humour, emotional songs and musical pay-off. The more I listen to “Sheet Music”, the more I realise it’s an alarmingly fine line, and I’m sorry to say 10cc don’t quite manage to walk it here.

they definitely had fun with it standout track: the wall street shuffle

Felt short but sweet. I'd listen again.

I like on the nose, absurdist stuff, but this almost winds all the way back around to unpleasantly earnest. L
