Reviews (page 8 of 13)

Some nice moments. 2/3 stars

'Imagine' carries this album. The rest range from mid to decent.

i mean it's a beatles album without the beatles refinement. i have to confess, jealous guy still fucks as a song. liked: jealous guy, it's really hard, oh my love.

do you remember the covid celeb video

A few good mentions include "How do you sleep" and "how?" But Oh Yoko is not a good song in my opinion. I don't see myself really revisiting this album.

The title track is a good song- the rest is largely Beatles filler- ok, but not memorable.

It’s good. Some great… like Imagine.

- it was fine - I liked how and how do you sleep - a lot of it I zoned out to tbh

I had no idea how much some people hate John Lennon until reading the reviews. I don't hate him that much. But I do think Phil Spector made this a record that you can enjoy, until you start thinking too much about it.

Hey guys what if world peace? 😎 - John Lennon, ett geni

Ett par ordentliga bangers, i övrigt varvat mellan helt okej o tråkigt. Nästbästa beatlen?

Ten years ago I might have listened to this, seeking to understand the genius behind it. Today I find it not really noteworthy, not really outside the zeitgeist of its time. Mere mortals, all of us.

It was okay.

Some nice songs here, with my favorite being Crippled Inside. Otherwise I wasn't really grabbed all that much.

While a questionable human being, John Lennon was certainly musical a genius. I just wish he had used more of that genius on this record. Also, I’ve always been (and still am) a Paul guy.

Further proof that P-Mac was the better songwriter. A couple good tunes on here but it’s mostly average at best. The last few seconds bumped John up a few notches on my list of worst harmonica players ever (he’s giving Bob Dylan a run for his money).

Much as I love Lennon’s solo work, and famous as the title track is, this is probably one of my least favourite of his records - Walls and Bridges, and Mind Games are my own faves and this one just doesn’t come close to them. He was in a pretty bitter and angry place when he recorded it and it shows in its disjointedness - it just doesn’t hang together as well as many of his other records. I find him and his life story endlessly fascinating though, so I know it’s a record I’ll always come back to.

I'm a massive Beatles fan. I love a lot of Paul and George's solo work (sorry Ringo, I haven't listened to yours yet), but over the years I've learned I just don't care much for John Lennon without the other three. A couple of good songs here, but I found most of them to be just okay.

Enjoyed it, but nothing crazy

I think we all recognize that the Beatles are one of the great bands of all time. But this is the second time I’ve had a post Beatles album from one of the band members that I have been disappointed with. Imagine is a great, great song, but the next few on this album are really subpar. It’s not until I Don’t Wanna Be a Soldier Mama that this album picks back up. After that, it’s better but still far from great. I did think How Do You Sleep was excellent and I actually somewhat enjoyed Oh Yoko. However, that was counterbalanced by Oh My Love, which is about as elementary a song as I’ve heard in a while, which is saying something given the amount of shitty not-even-a-hit-in-the-UK English bands that I have heard on this 1,001 album list. Overall, this record was not terribly inspired other than Imagine and the few politically driven tracks. It is, at best, average for me.

"Imagine", a música mais escutada deste álbum, contém um viés comunista de um "mundo ideal". A maioria das músicas possui uma melodia repetitiva. As músicas que eu mais gostei foram: "Oh, my love" e "Oh Yoko!".

Great songwriting. Boring music.

Imagine is of course one of the best songs of all time. Crippled Inside was also a great song, which I hadn't heard before. Obvious political texts of that time.

Not a big Beatles guy. Album's fine I guess, but nothing really stuck out to me afterwards. Favorite's probably "Gimme Some Truth".

Quebecois Review : Pas aussi bon que les Beatles. Translation : Not as good as Beatles

Each song is a really strong statement in both sound and lyrics but they get so boring and tedious so fast. The repeating melody and lyrics line. I got bored of these songs a few years ago and I still can’t listen to them without getting bored

problem z tym albumem jest taki ze przyjemna jest jakos co druga piosenka wiec niestety polowa do wyjebania

Other than Imagine nothing else really stood out to me.

An archetype of a 7 out of ten. Imagine and Jealous Man are your classics, the rest of the album isn't bad but not up to the standard of these. Nice string arrangements and solid songwriting as you'd expect from an ex-Beatle, but nothing incredible.

One song wonder

This should be on the list. Imagine is a great song and so too is How do you sleep? The rest of the album sounds good but nothing stands out.

Seemed like it was going to get carried by Imagine for the first few songs. While I’m sure the lyrics were edgy at the time, he really didn’t say that much. But the longer I listened I did feel I got into a grove of the album. The Yoko song was wired

Might be blasphemous, but Lennon is an inspired lyricist, but the actual tunes here are pretty slight.

What an odd collection. In some respects, it feels a bit skin deep, the exposing of every last little thing that was happening in Lennon’s private and public life at the time. But, like most great art, it’s finding universality from personal stories that elevates most of these songs (oh and having some of the best musicianship of the 20th century at your disposal). It’ll always be a bit tough for me, a fan who just wants to see a band get along in some impossible ideal of sharing/creation/performance, watching the Beatles hash it out over several records in the early 1970s. I can’t imagine how petty that must’ve looked at the time - not as ridiculous as the Gallagher brothers but not far from it. Pusha subtweeting or outright (reasonably) hating on Kanye, etc. But today and when I first heard How Do You Sleep? I just find it so cheap and it will always be lingering in the back of my subconscious every New Year’s Eve when they fire up Imagine as some sort of world-uniting song of peace from the guy who (at least on paper) was as vicious as they come. And that spineless sap George throwing in. I’m not even that big a Paul fan but if the stories are even half true, he was carrying a junkie and a malcontent (and also Ringo) for several years there after the 1-2 of Rubber Soul and Revolver. Meanwhile in John and Yoko land there’s Oh Yoko! one of the best slices of love ever committed to music. And then the flip of that elsewhere with John meditating on his jealous streak, something I definitely related to at one point. The rest of the album, like a lot of Lennon solo work, is unfortunately full of filler, from Crippled Inside and It’s So Hard’s rote blues band backing his acidic commentary to an interesting, but mostly half-assed John the society crier man back burner I Don’t Wanna Be a Soldier Mama and Gimme Some Truth. Right on man.

Beatles solo stuff is basically a hit or dud for me. This could be played with a lot of skips. I’d rather have their greatest hits than individual albums.

It’s a fine, all be it a bit depressing, little album. The Beatles, for me anyway, were always greater than the sum of their individual parts, and most of their solo works tend to be hit or miss for me. Being more of a Paul guy, I found this to be about what I expected. The hits are great, the rest is filler for me. Still solid for filler 3.5⭐️

Imagine is an incredible song. Rest of album was ‘meh’

A very solid 3, but ultimately drifted into the background rather than holding my attention

I used to love this album. What seemed profound as a teenager now just seems sanctimonious. Underwhelming

A lot better than I was expecting. Nice Spector production.

IMO. Not as great as some people make out.

Despite Ethan Hawke’s “Black Album” concept, in which he entwined post-Beatles solo tracks into a compilation to simulate a Beatles record, those solo recordings never held a candle to the Lennon/McCartney/Harrison/Starr team at their finest, in my opinion. However, I feel the songs “Imagine” and “Gimme Some Truth” on this Lennon album outshine most Beatles songs. If only all ten tracks of this record were as brilliant as these two; however, I find the balance middling and lacking the staying power of the opening tracks of each side. It’s always hard to listen to a recording separated from its era and give a contemporary analysis; if I were a teenager or young adult in 1971, I may have felt differently about this record and may now have some nostalgia toward it. But as it stands in 2025, I can’t say I would ever listen to this album in its entirety again.

Spank my monkey, it’s John

Good but not great. RIP.

Imagine criticising Paul for writing bland tracks while doing Oh Yoko... John Lennon was a flawed individual that liked to lash it out, but couldn't stand when there was some pushback. How Do You Sleep? still bangs tho and I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier Mama follows the path set by former Beatles track I want You (She's So Heavy). 3/5

all 10 songs have wikipedia articles

7/10 Should’ve imagined no Snub-Nosed Charter Arms .38 Special revolvers

Album inégal. J’ai bien aimé la seconde moitié, moins la première. Commencer avec Imagine me semble étrange, c’est clairement une chanson de fin d’album. It’s so hard, I don’t wanna be a soldier mama: meh Pas contre la 2e moitié, bien meilleure. Gimme some truth, how do you sleep? Oh yoko!… toute des hits!

I was expecting not to like this. I've always disliked the title track (disingenuous, overplayed). In the end it was not as bad as I expected, even enjoyable at times, so I will give it a generous 3 stars (although the harmonica at the end nearly brought it down to a 2).

Tough to rate. Coming off the Plastic Ono Band album, this seems like a step down. Imagine is great (if WAY overplayed), and Jealous Guy is one of Lennon's best ever, including the Beatles. But I am conflicted about How Do You Sleep? It comes off as overly mean from John and George, even if Macca 'started it'. And then to put the sappiest Macca-like ballad directly after it...idk. Oh Yoko is a nice song to end the album though. I'm struggling between 3 and 4 stars, as this is the ultimate 3.5 star album for me.

Another day another 3. Maybe it's just the older styles we've been getting. I don't hate them, but most of them haven't really pulled me into them. I even tried listening a couple of times in the evening and morning after and felt the same. 1 - would not listen to again 2 - if some one played it, I'd probably just zone it out 3 - didn't hate it, didn't love it 4 - saved some songs from the album 5 - would buy the album or already own it

I dont know. How to you rate this? Last time I gave it a 4 but knowing more about Lennon this time and honestly it just didnt grab me as much as it did on the orginal run. Knocking it down a star.

I think the only song that really stuck with me was "I Don't Wanna Be A Solider Mama". The production of that song really feels like something much later, late 70s. From the wailing saxophone, pure keyboard sounds, and crunchy guitar, it feels very in place in even the 80s. No surprise, Phil Spector. I do think this album was a bit ahead of it's time. Up there in that regards with something like Nilsson Schmilsson or Hunky Dory.

As I get older, I realize I'm much more of a George guy

First two songs were great, there are a lot of references to Yoko/their relationship in this which was interesting.

I found it half excellent and half hit and miss. "Imagine", "Jealous Guy" are amazing, but I struggled with some of the rest.

I am trying to separate the person (or his wife) from the music otherwise I'd be sitting here pointing out endless contradictions. I am more familiar with "Best of the Beatles" and the big ones (frog chorus obviously). I don't Wanna be a soldier while the lyrics were simple I loved the tone of it like walking into the bar from Roadhouse (the original). As with most of the songs I preferred the instrumentals vs lyrics, case and point Oh, Yoko!. Side note, if you've not seen Chuck Berry reacting to Yoko screaming during a performance before they muted her mic, then watch it.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts (Not meaning the album itself)

*Some hits and misses. *Fave track - Imagine RATING - 6.5/10

Varied musically with splashes of the Beatles all around, but feels like it relies too heavily on Imagine.

I always want to like this album but find it a bit overrated. I think the second half of this album is much stronger than the first half. Imagine is basically a cliche at this point which hurts it I think. Standouts include: Oh My Love and How Do You Sleep?

3.5 - second half of the album is a solid 4/5, I enjoyed this. Standout tracks: - Imagine: OBVIOUSLY 4.5/5 - Oh My Love: 4/5 - How?: 5/5 - Oh Yoko!: 3.5/5

Ranking of the best Beatles: 1. George Harrison 2. Ringo Starr/Paul McCartney (tie) 47. John Lennon This album wasn't bad, but there's a missing magic the other Beatles brought to the table John just doesn't have by himself. He was very lucky to have the other three members as contributors ⭐⭐⭐

First I listened to McCartney’s Wings album and now I guess it’s time for ol’ Johnny. I know very little about Beatles lore, though I’ve picked up in passing that John was the creative spirit of the band and the rest of his crew were the ones holding him in place. I’m curious to see how Lennon fares on his own. While I didn’t like Band on the Run save for one track, Imagine is pretty alright from start to finish. You can’t go wrong with an album comprised almost entirely of piano ballads and subdued instrumentals. The title track is subversive, communist liberalbabble, though I can’t deny that it’s a good song – the best on the album. The piano is paired beautifully with the backing strings and the lyrics work very well from a songwriting perspective. Oh My Love is another good tune. Very reminiscent of Julia from the White Album, though I can’t complain. The song is very pleasing, and the addition of the piano goes a long way in differentiating the track from its predecessor. The fragile sound of it is beautiful. How? has a soft sound which I enjoy, especially as a follow-up to the more intense How Do You Sleep? I care much less about the tracks that I've left unmentioned, but overall this was a pretty worthwhile listen. Can't knock this inclusion.

wow, an album by the third best Beatle! (fight me) Look, I'm not going to say this isn't good. It's John, it's categorically very good. But...not really for me. I'm more of a Beatles guy than any of them solo, but that's a product of my musical upbringing more than anything. Imagine is an important song, I've heard it a zillion times, I've sung it in concerts before (shoutout Harmony Project), and I watched a video of a zionist pig singing it during Covid. Stands the test of time that it is still amazing even after Gal Gadot ruined it. Jealous Guy is great, I've heard a better cover it it tbqh. Oh My Love is a wonderful song, beautiful in it's simplicity. Etc. Wish this shit at half ratings because this would be a great 3.5 for me. Just depends on which side of that I want to go on. Nvm he ended with a song about Yoko, fuck this. 3

--Imagine...cheesy? cliche? overplayed? overrated? I understand why someone may feel these things about this song. I think it's timeless --Crippled Inside...a fun groove with cynical lyrics. Not one of his best but still classic Lennon --Jealous Guy...kind of sluggish but it works somehow --It's So Hard...sounds like one of his pre-Beatles rockabilly obsessions. meh --I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier Mama...not a good enough song for it to be the bold statement he wants it to be --Gimme Some Truth...subtle as a sledgehammer. I want my Lennon anger counterbalanced with some dry British wit. There's no wit here --Oh My Love...sappy but nice --How Do You Sleep?...mean-spirited song from a mean-spirited man --How?...more sap but nice production --Oh Yoko!...a total delight. Saves the back half from being a slog

Wow people really have strong opinions about this album lol. I found it okay. Kinda depressing and woe is me, but also funky. Odd juxtaposition.

I didn’t think much about it besides liking it as a Beatles-esque album. None of the songs were bangers upon first listen. Imagine frustrates me so much, ugh. 3/5 because I like the style, but I don’t see adding it to my rotation.

the celebrities’ version of imagine during covid ruined forever john lennon music to me 3,5/5 🪳

Better than I expected, worse than its level of praise. Sometimes an excellent pop record sometimes boring droning bullshit.

Has classics like 'Imagine', but John Lennon (as a solo artist) isn't quite for me

I mean, Imagine's a good song. But it's not my bag, baby. Rest of the album's fine, but still not my bag. Feels like heresy, but 3* is all I'm giving it. Sorry, Dave.

Classic

While I've heard the title song a bunch of times, I never listened to the album before and you know what? I didn't miss a lot. For diehard fans, I think.

The song Imagine is beautiful, if naive. The rest is largely forgettable.

I'm not a fan of the Beatles and particularly John Lennon. I knew a guy in college who was way too into JL, so much so, he posed with his fingers touching the Imagine sign in Strawberry Fields, New York. He was also wearing his round, JL sunglasses to perfect the look. It's as douchebag as you would think. I hope he ended up in a cubicle farm. So my opinion was primed to be a contrarian, but I kinda liked much of this album. "I Don't Want to be a Soldier" and "How Do You Sleep?" were my favorites. "Oh Yoko" was doofy but weirdly sweet. The production is fantastic but it better be with Phil Spector at the helm. I don't like "Imagine" but I'm not into hating it either. It's naïve, hippie BS that doesn't need much thought because no thoughts went into the lyrics. Now... "Jealous Guy". This song is insufferable and everyone should he ashamed. JL is clearly playing the "Baby I'm sorry I punched you in the face, but you have to understand how I feel" card. It's gross. Just say you're a jerk and you will work to be better person. I cannot stand ppl who identify and know their flaws, and then turn around and use those flaws as the excuse to not be responsible for their actions.

he's real whiney

some indelible songs here. Imagine has become fairly trite, and it's not so good a piece of music even if I agree philosophically with the direction of the sentiment. Gimmie Some Truth is the killer cut here, with its vitriol being still appropriate 50 years on. the rest of the album is nothing awful, nothing special. it's better than a lot of his 70s solo stuff that would follow, not as good as the beatles or even the plastic ono band that preceeded it.

Imagine (the song) was way better than I remembered, so I was really disappointed that the rest of this album wasn't very good. Thankfully, it was fairly short, so the good parts made up a not-insignificant portion of it. Overall, sort of in the middle I guess?

Yeah John Lennon makes some cool stuff, just a nice and consistent album :)

Exactly what I expected from John Lennon. A bit imaginative and a bit vibey. Although it didn’t stick in my opinion. I understand why he is so popular but this album just isn’t for me. Imagine is a still a phenomenal song.

A mid tier album with an incredible song.

Cool hearing him on his own.

i do not really care for his voice or his vibe but this is pretty good. some duds and some good ones

Pretty by the numbers as far as john lennon solo stuff goes. Some ok songs but overall a pretty boring album. 6/10 Favourite: Imagine Least Favourite: I Dont Want to Be A Soldier

I know the title track from John Lennon’s Imagine but that is it. I didn’t really like the country vibes on Crippled Inside and Jealous Guy was an okay song. It started to bore me a little by the end. But then Imagine started to pick up for me on song 4, It’s So Hard. And Gimme Some Truth was the highlight of the album with How Do You Sleep? being a close second. I do wish it would’ve ended with How? because I didn’t care for the closing track Oh Yoko! Pretty cheesy. Overall, I enjoyed most of this album. I don’t know what it is but I didn’t like the ballads as much. They bored me. This is a strong 3 for my rating. 3/5

Hey! I've always wanted to hear this one! As a Beatles fan I've always been curious about the members' solo work. Only song I know is "Imagine". Let's see... Post listen: Right... Definitely enjoyed the second half more. Seemed like he was going for a more "poppy" sound in the first half. Second half had some funky (literally) stuff going on for it. That was cool, I guess. However, I have to agree with the sentiment that the songwriting is just NOT on par with what the Beatles created together. There must've been something in that collection of people... IDK, maybe it's just the nostalgia talking. Anyway, I'm even more excited to get to listen and review some Beatles records again after this; to see whether or not I'm right about them being better...

me and this man would have been enemies.... he loved Yoko DOWN tho and i support him for that

3 stars for imagine and jealous guy. The rest is a surprisingly bitter and angry to be honest

I was expecting more but outside of ‘Imagine’ I thought it was just ok.

i mostly prefer Paul's solo stuff, but no doubt John was a very talented songwriter. Imagine is a bit overplayed by this point; I enjoyed the blues-ier stuff on this album that I hadn't heard before.

So John Lennon decided Imagine, his album advocating for peace and kindness for all humans, was the best place to release his Paul McCartney diss track. Got it.

Beautiful songs, including a few classics. When I think of John Lennon I always think of this quote: Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans

Imagine is of course a hit- the rest of the album had some strong songs and some mediocre. Overall it cane together to a nice album

Didn’t love. Except title track, of course

Classic song of course, but the rest of the album is actually really good as well. One of his stronger ones overall I would say. At least of those I’ve heard.

It was fine, I guess. But man, I don't really care for the Beatles.

Not as good as the beatles

Oh, cool, Yoko Ono's husband. Hopefully his music is half as good as her singing.... A lot of blues on this. Imagine that! While it seemed there was much going on, I just didn't get into this. Maybe, one day he'll make a good album. I liked Harrison's All Things Must Pass better than this. I also am a huge fan of Sean Lennon, so John gave us that, and The Beatles are great together, though. This album is a 3.

John Lemon the famous communist haha. Anyway, very nice, pleasant album. It had a really great keyboard part that I loved but suddenly something interrupted it. Well, the end of the song. It was so short, kinda disappointing after all. But it's just my little thing that I wanted to point out. Nice album.

Probably one of the best opening song to a record ever followed by pretty mid blues/country.

This is a record with a legendary first track, but unfortunately, the rest of the album can't match its pace. The rest of the songs weren't necessarily bad, but it felt like the quality had gone down with each subsequent track. Highlights of this record were the instrumental performances, the songwriting, and, obviously, the track 'Imagine'. A lowlight for me on this record was the lack of a lasting impression outside of 'Imagine'. Favourite Track(s): Imagine, Crippled Inside Least Favourite Track(s): I Don't Wanna Be A Soldier Mama

Boring

John Lennons magnum opus. Ved ikke det er ikke lige mig men det er måske fordi jeg ikke er så meget inde i tekster. Idealisme anger pain og beauty

There’s some interesting songs in here as he’s working through his life post-Beatles… but there’s also the title track which has become a parody of itself over the years.

Imagine there’s no Beatles. It’s easy to uhh if you. Hmmm. That is my rendition of Joe Lennox’s excellent song “Imagination.” I believe the rest of it goes, “I am a citizen of the Imagi-Nation. My passport is made of unicorn mane hair, and yes, even though I imagined this nation, we still need identification.” That song got me through some tough times. One of the top 400 songs about mind based countries to ever be released and that? That’s important. I’m starting to sound like ChatGPT. How much time do you think we have left as a species? A decade? Imagine - No heaven?? Come on now. There is obviously an omnipotent sky man who just happens to have the same interests as the ruling classes throughout history. And if sky man is there, there is DEFINITELY a good place for hard workers who obey the rulers’ rules and a bad scary place for people who break those rules. Duh! Listen. Ol John boy released a great song here, but in 2025, it’s impossible to not hear every American idol auditoner belting this thing out sans original emotional weight. Oh and who could forget the celebrity zoom rendition from the early pandemic. Yeesh. This song will never be fresh again. Crippled Inside - Buckle your seatbelts, we’re entering deep track territory. Riverboat ticklin’ of those ivories. Fuck it. This rules. Hand me a Sarsaparilla and a pork pie hat. We’re goin’ riverboatin’. There is enough old school blues here to help me ignore the piano. Genuinely super fun song with some heavy lyrics. Jealous Guy - I can’t for the life of me decide if this is kind of likeable, or completely insufferable. I guess if I’m on the fence, then maybe it’s a nuanced issue. That will not stand! It’s 2025, I need to be on one side, and I need to be EXTREME ABOUT IT. Not in a cool Disney Skateboard adventure kind of extreme either. You know when you play as Zurg of Toy Story fame doing a fucking kick flip over Mufasa? Not that kind. The other kind of extreme, where you ignore nuance to receive hits of dopamine in the form of social media adulation. I will say, I think I lean towards liking this song. I guess I’m not really a zealous guy. It’s So Hard - More white guy blues. The tones are pretty great, but horns and white guy blues leave me precariously perched on the precipice of hatred. Not as strong a song here but not bad. I Don’t Wanna Be a Soldier Mama - If there has ever been a dramatic song title, this is the most dramatic. Man that production is cool. Not the direction I thought this would go and I’m loving it. That cavernous sound mixed with examination of the horrors of capitalistic enslavement on either side of the rifle make this a monster. It’s long, and would’ve probably worked better as a shorter track, but I find it almost hypnotic which further highlights the desperation of the lyrical content. Ah this one rules. Full stop. Gimme Some Truth - Hit me. Am I too fat? Do I spend too little time writing? Eh. This song was just there. Repetitive and didn’t hit as hard to me. Oh My Love - No no no no. Not great. How Do You Sleep? - Do you toss and turn? Maybe Twist and Shout? Stay awake “imagining” freaks? Fresh off the trucks, I am Overstocked on the Beatlemania 6000. Padded with 100 million one pound notes and lined with the contributions of black American blues musicians, your Hard Day’s Nights are over. Jump into the Beatlemania 6000 and return to the world of quiet sleep. Just don’t wake Paul! The Beatles version of “No Vaseline” was pretty interesting, albeit a little slow. Not a bad track. How? - Oh boy this is almost a disco tinged ballad. Horrible. I’m so disappointed because this album has been very interesting so far. Oh Yoko! - John Lennon, confirmed “Wife Guy.” Please don’t say “My love will turn you on.” I might have taken a shot at the guy for that alone. Assassin empathy aside, this is a catchy song, and despite the odd societal rhetoric, it’s a positive thing that the guy loved his wife. Can’t believe I have to say that. Anyway. Pretty way to close. Imagine an album that didn’t tail off on the back half and you’re imagining a close to 5 star effort. This is seemingly an album surrounded by controversy and things far outside of music and therefore seems to have polarized online opinions. Hell, 95% of the reviews seem to be “paul better” or “errm if he really believed in a slightly better world then why didn’t he live nomadically and own no clothes.” Thanks for regurgitating capitalist propaganda, online geniuses. Now I’m doing it. The music here was cool for the most part and I enjoyed my time Imagining. Way to go John Boy. Sorry for the assassin jab, ol chap. You must understand I’m stuck for material. 3.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Crippled Inside, Jealous Guy, I Don’t Wanna Be a Soldier Mama, Oh Yoko!

Easy listening, not special.

A bit underwhelming.

15/1001. A familiar album from my childhood, but still some songs seemed quite unfamiliar. Besides the title there are some other classics here as well, Jealous Guy being my favourite. I was quite surprised how boring and similar some of the songs were, to be considered such a classic. Also the honesty Lennon wanted to bring in to his lyrics doesn't make the listener at home. First he sings the most universally know anthem about people living together in peace and then goes about trashing McCartney. That just doesn't feel right. Or Yoko again. I mean I like Yoko's stuff, perhaps more than Lennon's solo efforts, her music in all its naivete is much more interesting than Lennon in the 70s, sorry to say. But of course an anthem is an anthem, and there are not many people in the world who have been able to produce so many of them.

He’s a genius and a legend. Undeniable. But I just don’t enjoy his music 🤷‍♂️

Imagine all the people living life in peace, except for Paul McCartney!!!

A very cathartic, introspective and relatable album for both Lennon's audience and himself. His way of singing perfectly portrayed this, which I liked quite a bit. I thoroughly enjoyed the instrumentals and the tone they brought to each song. That being said, I'm partial to songs with longer or instrumental focused intros, so some of the songs on this album that jumped straight into the lyrics weren't some of my favorites. I also felt like Oh Yoko! felt slightly out of place in the whole of the album, but everything else fit nicely! 3.5/5 stars, would add some songs to my playlist.

Good iconic but only a few songs i will go back to

Fine. Not my thing

Solid. Always been a fan of “Oh, Yoko” and “Jealous Guy”

John Lennon has never been my favorite Beatle, or anywhere close. I actually didn't know most of the music on this album, save for "Imagine" of course, because who hasn't had that song shoved down their throats at this point? All in all, Lennon's solo music is tolerable. But I wouldn't say I found this to be revolutionary, like the solo works of McCartney and Harrison from around the same period are.

The politics of Imagine has the nuance of a 10 year old. Was this the Smart Beatle? Jealous Guy makes him sound really annoying and insecure. Final track is cringe. Musically, I liked the melodies in this album. Overall, was fine.

The Good: We get to use our imagination! The Bad: The knowledge that this would be the last time JL get’s to create more stuff The Ugly: That last tune on the album. Yes, we all know that John Lennon is Rock n Roll royalty, and we can all appreciate the wonderful music that he left us with. And yes, we can all agree that the song Imagine, purely by itself, is a 5* song, and I’ll lump on Jealous Guy with a 5* too. Can we then also agree that, aside from the two songs listed above, the rest of the album is just mediocre? You can hear several “Beatles” songs on there, but none that are of the kind your instantly start to whistle or hum… Do we blame Yoko for this? I really wanted to like this album, I really did… but it just isn’t worth more than 3*, even if it contains 2 stellar songs… the rest just pulls it down too much. 3*

Instrumentals were really nice most of the lyrics and delivery were lazy Shoutout JD Salinger

Good Album 3/5

Due to all the fandom surrounding The Beatles and John Lennon I would have expected more. A decent record with some highlights. Nothing less, nothing more.

John Lennon could write good songs, but he is a bit too overhyped and intellectual for my tastes. That's why his songs worked so well in the Beatles - his impulses were kept in check by his bandmates (who, in turn, had their impules kept in check by him and the others as well). Without that, we have some beautiful, timeless songs like Imagine and Jealous Guy, but most of this album comes across as too self-important. It's worth a listen and should be on this list, but it also serves as a reminder why the Beatles were one of the best musical acts on the planet ever, while the individual solo careers of the former Fab Four were just ... OK. Like this album. 3/5

Best: Crippled Inside Worst: I Don't Wanna Be A Soldier Mama

At the end of the day, this is a good singer-songwriter/rock album that is harmed by being tethered to The Beatles. Imagine is more self serious, less adventurous and less colorful than The Beatles best, and it shows that The Beatles really were a balancing act between four individually flawed men. Despite this, I did enjoy Imagine, it’s fairly consistent and hits a high streak during the run of its last 3-4 songs. Some of the political commentary on this has aged awkwardly in the way that a lot of political music of the early 70s has, but a lot of these songs do present their topics in an interesting way. Overall, not bad.

Really debating between 3 and 4. There's definitely good stuff on here, but none of it reaches the same highs as any later beatles albums. Oh Yoko puts it down to a 3 I think. Also 'how do you sleep'is just such A weak diss by today's standards

Not as good as everyone seems to think. I prefer the back half of this album over the more popular front half. Not bad but also isn't groundbreaking. I prefer Plastic Ono Band to this. 7/10

Admittedly didn’t give this my full attention but i think it’s just ok. Always love imagine. Straight 3

It’s mid. Nothing special about this.

Propelled by the title track, it is a fun album that loses steam about half way through, culminating in the disappointing oh yoko.

George Harrison plays some great slide guitar on a couple of tracks. Phil Spector's production is terrible.

I suppose this is what I get for saying that Paul's a sap. John seems to be working out some issues here, and it produced a few good songs, but it primarily feels self-indulgent.

3 - decent album, besides imagine, how do you sleep, and jealous guy the rest is pretty forgettable

I love the bluesy-honky tonk, CRIPPLED INSIDE and some of the psychedelia throughout the album. I'd be lying if I said I adore IMAGINE (the song). It's always been a song I respect, but don't particularly enjoy stomaching. As with CRIPPLED, I also prefer IT'S SO HARD, and HOW DO YOU SLEEP? for similar reasons. At times, it feels like the album confuses itself. And I repeat, score doesn't fully reflect the significance this album, and Lennon, had on rock music.

More like imagine listening to John lemon in 2025 amirite?

The Beatles are better than the sum of their parts

1. Imagine / 8.5 Classic, sounds a bit boring considering the message 2. Crippled Inside / 7 Fun song, but nothing special 3. Jealous Guy / 8 Beatifull, love the strings and the whistling. Calming and soothing 4. It's so hard / 6 simple fun song, but nothing special. Bit too simple probably 5. I don't wanna be a Soldier / 6.5 Cool opening. Raunchy. Simple again. Probably would hear this in a movie, but wouldn't really put this on 6. Gimme some truth / 6 I like the lyrics, but wouldn't listen to this for fun. 7. Oh my love / 7.5 Beatifull calming song 8. How do You Sleep / 5 It's ok, bit boring 9. How? / 6 Nice lyrics to open the song. Doesn't really grab my attention anymore after that 10. Oh Yoko! / 6 PLayful opening, vocally i think he could've done more with this. Wish it was a general lovesong not about yoko

This album has its moments. There are definitely some catchy songs scattered throughout. Of course, the title track Imagine is inescapable at this point; it’s been played so many times it's practically part of the atmosphere. While I can understand its impact and why people connect with it, the overall vibe of the album just doesn’t click with me. It’s not bad by any means, but just not my cup of tea.

It did not throw me off the chair.

Haven’t listened to this for years. Was thinking to myself that it is terribly sentimental. Then ‘How Do You Sleep?’ comes on. Ah-hah.

One or two decent songs. Wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to it again in a hurry.

Surprisingly mild for a John Lennon album, with a couple of duds here and there, although nothing truly annoying to put me out of it. The tracks I loved were really good, but the ones I didn't fell more into the forgettable category. "Imagine" is a lovely song sound-wise, if you discard the hypocrisy behind the lyrics. "Crippled inside" is a country bop with a fun hook, followed by a weeping ballad "Jealous guy" which is not my favourite, but I see its appeal. "It's so hard" is a generic blues track, but it builds up to a nice finale. "I don't wanna be a soldier mama" goes for a bit too long but I'm really digging it for some reason, it must be the messy production. "Gimme some truth", "Oh my love" and "How?" are the three skips for me, but there's a hidden gem stuck between in the form of a surpringly good Paul diss track "How do you sleep?". I mean, the feud was bizzare but at least it gave us this song. "Oh Yoko!" is a bit too cheesy for my taste, but it's okay for an album closer. All in all, there are some really great tracks on this album, but the bad weights it down to 3.5 stars for me.

I always wondered if the song Imagine would carry the same impact if Lennon had not been killed. Like his death amplified the song to classic status from being just very good (and a little cheesy). How Do You Sleep is a late standout and one that I've never really heard before. I didn't think Lennon would be capable of writing a diss track at Paul McCartney but this was pretty fire. The rest of the album was just ok. I don't think it helped bump it to a 4, but I feel pretty sure this was a high 3.

Started out hot with one of the greatest songs of all time. Nothing else about this album particularly wowed me. I'm sure there's some lore behind this album that I don't know.

Imagine is always very good. How Do You Sleep was a new one for me that stood out. The rest was just some good John Lennon. High 3

Relajante, nostálgico, alegre Rock, buena guitarra

I what pleasantly surprised. I only knew the title track, but which I don’t love. It’s a good sounding album. He’s a great singer. All the songs are decent to good. I probably won’t seek it out again. That was my 5th album.

Happy go lucky and profound. But honestly prefer hearing all the Beatles, not just John Lennon. Nice change to listen to however

Slightly overrated in my opinion.

after nearly 200 albums of digging, i finally hit a beatle. i’m shocked that it took me this long. sucks that it had to be this one. or....does it suck? i liked the non-title tracks on this album a lot more than i thought i would. how do you sleep is shady boots, obviously, and i think oh yoko is a sweet, catchy tune. the cancellation of long-dead artists is so intriguing to me. i used to care a lot more than i do now, and i think i’ve settled on “maybe we should pay attention to the shitty people that are actually alive/the 26th most listened to artist on spotify is a self proclaimed nazi”. three stars!

Imagine is a great song. The rest was mid at best.

I haveixed feelings about John Lennon as a person and a songwriter without Paul, George and Ringo as filters. An iconic album with the blueprints for hundreds of indie singer songwriters. Jealous guy really struck me.

The sound of the record is cool but a lot of the songwriting here doesn't impress me very much. I didn't care for the bluesy numbers at all. I did enjoy some of the slower ones

Хорошо поёт неплохо

An alright album with a pretty big titular single. However, was a bit slow/dull overall. There's a message to the album but doesn't change the fact I didn't like it a whole bunch.

I almost regret listening to this all the way through. It made me realize how much of a sniveling brat John was in the wake of The Beatles breakup. Songs like How Do You Sleep seem so uncalled for, especially considering the professional course that Paul took during the same time frame. In reality, John was a cheater, an abuser, a deadbeat father, and undoubtedly a genius. He tried to explain away his abuse as just being a Jealous Man and being Crippled Inside. His life was one of conflict and he couldn’t quite shake the need for conflict in his adult life. Even Yoko couldn’t stop escape his cheating and abusing ways. In hindsight, his lyrics are sometimes damn near gaslighting, which is a shame because he is undeniably one of the greatest songwriters of all time, though Imagine is too insufferably introspective and manipulative to “turn me on.” 3.2/5

A stellar work with a top tier single from a problematic visionary. The lyrical craft don't seem to back the actual man.

Yeah idk man I’m kinda torn on this one. At its worst, it’s self indulgent, the vocal mixing is ass, and the front half feels like he’s trying to recreate the whimsical half baked ideas on the white album. But at its best, the ballads are very vulnerable and sweet sounding, George’s contributions are stellar, and the back half is much more consistent in general. Rounding up to a 3 because the runtime is perfect and doesn’t overstay its welcome

6.5/10 Highlights: How do You Sleep Imagine Gimme Some Truth

Just alright

Some part way decent songs on this and there’s no doubt he was an important artist but it’s not my cup of tea

This felt like "Imagine", Jealous Guy" and eight versions of Yer Blues. Lucky I don't deduct a star for that celebrity version of "Imagine" over COVID.

Its fine, some classics, but overall just fine

It’s actually REALLY boring

3/5: pleasant to listen to and Imagine is iconic. Truly a product of its time

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> It's a good album, though I think the song imagine is idealistic nonsense <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Such a confusing album. The music is great, but I just can't stand John's humongous ego that he incorporated in this work.

Little bit of the Beatles sound still here but most of it was just okay in my opinion

I'm a big Beatles freak but I don't love this album for reasons I can't put my finger on.

"Imagine" a shit beatles record, because that's what this is. It's missing a lot of what makes the Beatles great, and it's full of the stuff that doesn't. I don't think that necessarily makes it a bad album, but you can tell why John needed help writing songs. "Imagine" itself is easily the best song on the album, even though the meaning is rich coming from Lennon (and of course from that insane pandemic era celebrity video). There's one thing that I want to point out in particular: "I don't want to be a soldier mama" has a really interesting lyrical cadence, but it takes that 2-3 second line and just repeats it for 6 minutes. Was that really necessary? A single idea does not a good song make. This is the worst offender but I think that's the problem with this album - each song has one or two ideas and then beats them to death. Thankfully John realized that not all the songs need to be that long, so you actually don't get the sense of repetition outside of a few songs, but the theme is there. Aside from the title track, I liked the McCartney diss in "How Do You Sleep", "How" and "Oh, Yoko" from a songwriting perspective. Those three are a good ending to the album after a bit of a slog in the middle. The rest…eh. I don’t think it lived up to the hype at all.

I really didn't want to like this. I can't stand the numbingly boring overrated song 'Imagine'. And John Lennon is possibly the least talented Beatle (if you include Ringo's 'Thomas the Tank Engine' work). But it's ok. I guess the dude can write songs.

Beside Imagine not realy a masterpiece.

3.75 Imagine carried this album

Wasn’t exactly my type of music

Not really a fan of his solo stuff but can appreciate it. I think the song “Imagine” is overrated

Feel like if this wasn’t John Lennon and it wasn’t the album with imagine on it no one would really pay it any attention

Lennon is a good song writer, and ot shows on Imagine. The songs are tight, easy on the ears and easy to understand. My only problem is he isn't too much beyond that. It isn't all that interesting or even that memorable. Standouts: Imagine, Jealous Man, How Do You Sleep

honestly a pretty sweet and often humorous record. Good stuff, not too deep and of course imagine is just breathtaking. Favorite song: imagine. Overall score: 7.2

I found this album to be quite underwhelming. Aside from “Imagine”, the rest of the tracks were new to me. Guess I was expecting something better. I did like the Paul “dis” track though. I respect his contributions to the Beatles over 7 years, but not a Lennon fan overall - seems like a petulant, narcissistic and hypocritical person. This album didn’t change that.

I was really enjoying it until "How do you sleep?" His disdain for someone who taught him how to play guitar, wrote incredible songs with him and helped launch him into the musical stratosphere is petty and frankly sad. That song is definitely a blemish on his entire body of work.

Lennon has his own sound as a solo artist. Free-flowing, imaginative, and soulful. This is a really nice record that captures him at a pivotal time in his life. I dig it.

track one: imagine - i have a complicated relationship with this song, as part of me resents it from the whole only a fool would say that/"working class hero" that rightfully acknowledges lennon's privilege; but it's also a beautifully composed, lovely sentiment. i'd give it a 7/10 track two: crippled inside - meh; weird accent from john here. i feel like he was really going for paul's nachos here, both in the whimsy of the composition and the attempt at angst in the lyrics - also too long. not very good, but i liked the breakdown at the end. 5/10 track three: jealous guy - infamous as hell but quite a nice listen. 6.5/10 track four: it's so hard - i like this one actually. classic lennon and it, doesn't overstay its welcome. 6.5/10 track five: i don't wanna be a soldier mama - getting too close to cultural appropriation for comfort here; #awkward. but unfortunately the song is quite good, and sort of experimental! 7/10 track six: gimme some truth - i love this song, reminds me of my best friend so i will not be objective about it! pretty good. 7.25/10 track seven: oh my love - so sweet and pretty, now he's gunning for harrison's nachos and they suit him far better. favourite so far! 7.8/10 track eight: how do you sleep - just okay sonically, paul ate him up, tooo long. also should've been earlier in the album, as it breaks up the flow between oh my love, how?, and oh yoko! which would be so nice and seamless otherwise. 5/10 track nine: how? - i like this! very nice, exemplifies john's strengths as a musician! 8/10 track ten: oh yoko! - loveeee this one so dearly! dare i say 8.5/10? final rating: 7.25/10

Knaller und schöne und lahme Songs wechseln sich ab.

I still prefer John Lennon with Paul McCartney, but still some fantastic work.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would

I've heard this album once before, I think. Of course we all know the title track which people love or hate. Personally, the lyrics never appealed to me, but it was a nice, pretty melody. All that was ruined when the out of touch celebrities sang it at us during COVID...bleh...now I'm fine never hearing it again. Not Lennon's fault, of course. My favorite track here is Crippled Inside, just because it's upbeat and fun (maybe not the lyrics so much). The other stuff I could take or leave. Implying that the only thing Paul McCartney ever did was Yesterday is laughable.

Love the Beatles. I’ve always liked Paul McCartney’s post Beatles better. Eclectic album. Enjoyable.

Say what you will about John Lennon but the guy was a hell of a musician. Solid album

It's Imagine by John Lennon, so of course it's on here. That said, this album is honestly just ok at best. Lennon really benefits from having the other Beatles with him to keep him in check.

pretty good, a little artsy fartsy but not bad

Overrated. Favourite songs: Crippled Inside, It's So Hard, Oh Yoko!, Imagine Least favourite songs: I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier Mama 3/5

This one was a hard album to rate. It’s certainly a good album, but I don’t think it’s as good as any of even the lesser Beatles work. I liked the arrangement and production, but I found the songs to not be the most interesting. The political aspects weren’t my favorite, not because I disagree, but because it felt kind of virtue-signally to me, like Lennon was against the Vietnam war just because being against the Vietnam was what artists did at the time. Favorite Track: How Do You Sleep?

Solidnih 3/5, 6/10.

You can't play poker with a deck of spades, you can't recapture that Beatles magic without Paul, Ringo, and George.

One of my non-favorites. I'm giving it three stars though because my wife threatened me if I didn't.

Imagine being a millionaire white br*tish dude singing songs about "what if we didn't have jobs" and getting massive praise for it. I get that Imagine was transgressive for the time, but damn if the isn't on the floor. Probably my least favorite Beatle.

I have successfully imagined John Lennon. It was pretty good, I liked Oh My Love.

Peanut butter and jelly are better together than apart. So were Lennon and McCartney.

I wasn't blown away by this and maybe I'm biased because Paul > John (even though it's not really a competition). To me, this album proves strength in numbers and how much better their individual music could have been if created together.

A few great songs, the rest a little bleh. Funny how he and Paul traded these diss tracks that unintentionally illustrated how much they needed each other musically.

fuck john lennon

My parents are the Beatles generation. They passed it on. I've been a Beatles fan as long as I've been alive, not that long, but still. It's always been Lennon, Harrison, McCartney, and sorry Ringo. But in recent years things have shifted. John lost his spot. But enough about anything but the album. It's very nice with a handful of amazing songs. No yoko being too much. Just simple little songs. Not the best but pretty good.

Heard before, solid but boring

1. imagine - 4 2. inzide - 1.5 3. jealouz - 3.5 4. hard - 1.5 5. zoldier - 1 6. truth - 1.5 7. love - 2.5 8. zleep - 1.5 9. houu- 1.5 10. yoko - 1

I liked the range across styles. The title track is a classic

Harrison had the best post-Beatles output, but Lennon cut himself loose and produced some fine, angry and heartfelt music freed from Paul’s ribbons. There’s classic music on here and some working-it-out jams. John always sang with his heart out in the open. I still think about what he could be producing today.

Some great songs (jealous guy, crippled inside, oh yoko) and plenty of good songs, imagine is a solid record which struggles to hit the heights of Lennon’s previous work. Which is an unfair expectation given what he produced before, but a comparison that’s kind of hard not to make.

Some parts are good, some parts are just meh, some are shite.

Liked: Imagine, Crippled Inside, Jealous Guy, Gimme Some Truth

Just average rock music. I’m sorry but Paul’s solo stuff is way better.

I like one song only

'And no religion too.' That's a breakthru in pop and rock's political and cultural messaging. It fits right in, you don't gotta say anything more, and I'm relieved someone had the nerve to say it. The song is therefore rightly iconic, but the rest of the album consists of songs that are good but never great, with the exception of 'How Do You Sleep,' which as a putdown track ranks with Dylan's 'Idiot Wind' and 'Positively 4th Street': 'The sound you make is muzak to my ears / You must've learned something in all those years.' 'I Don't Wanna Be A Soldier Mama' is thundering and grand, but also confirms that Lennon is often a better chanter than lyricist. When the chanting gets into my soul, I'll be there for the picketing. Otherwise, it's a bit truthy for no reason.

Imagine all the Beatles… It’s easy if you try.

Imagine itself is a great song, but the rest of the album was all right. A pleasant listen overall. I didn't pay attention to much of the lyrics.

Unfortunately, I didn't half mind this album. Some of the lyrics grated on me a little, but the music was much more memorable than I thought it would be. 3.3 stars.

Good album. “Imagine” is obviously the hit on here. Enjoy the messaging of the album. 3.5/5 Might listen again

I liked this more than I thought I would. I’d say about half of this album is solid. The other half isn’t great.

honestly the title track kind of undeniably goes but thankfully for my own personal convictions and dislike of lennon the rest of the album ranges from fine to unremarkable to annoying. musically i do actually like How Do You Sleep, but even being also kind of a Paul hater, i find it just a little too crass as a response to the much more mild jabs on Ram

Beatles albums should be here. This? I don't think so. 2.5

The title track is so overplayed that it's lost any power it once had, and now just feels trite. I don't wanna be a soldier is a dirge. I like the George solo on Gimme Some Truth. I really like the music of How Do You Sleep, but those lyrics are just embarrassing. "How" and "Oh Yoko" are nice songs to close out the album. All in all a mixed bag. McCartney's Ram is a better album that's not on this list, IMO.

Oh John, John Lennon is a difficult figure for me. I think that without him the Beatles wouldn't be nearly as good as they are, yet he's not that great without the rest of the Beatles. I much prefer Paul and George's post-Beatles work. A lot of John's solo music is uninteresting to me or even obnoxious. My feelings on this album are overall positive. The title track is by far the biggest song from this album as well as Lennon's solo career as a whole. Most people either think its one of the greatest songs ever made or they think its overrated whiny crap. Personally I'm somewhere in the middle though I would agree that its probably the best song on the album. I think if you separate "Imagine" from John as a person its a really nice song. The other notable song is the bizarre Paul McCartney slander on "How Do You Sleep?". Why does this song exist? Like it sounds fine but the concept of a Beatles diss track makes me roll my eyes. The rest of the album is made up of hits and misses. It never becomes unlistenable or anything but it also never blows me away. Until I relisten to "Plastic Ono Band", this is still my favorite post-Beatles Lennon album. "Merry Christmas Yoko" Favorite track: Imagine 💩 3.5/5

Some good stuff, some OK stuff.

Can we all just agree that John was the worst Beatle? Imagine makes me genuinely angry, the po faced, total lack of self awareness being demonstrated in this song is ire inducing. That said, on the rest of the album, the music is pretty decent, even though the lyrics are shitty. The only genuinely good song is Jealous Guy. The only song where John Lennon addresses what a prick he was.

Realmente nenhuma música além de Imagine me chamou a atenção. Faz falta os outros Beatles hem. Mas é razoável, vou dar 3 para não ser muito chato dando um 2. "Mamãe não quero ser prefeito, pode ser que eu seja eleito e alguém pode querer me assassinar." Seixas, Raul

"How do you sleep?" primeira diss track da história (a guitarra nessa oh *chef's kisses*) 3,5

There’s a reason “Imagine” is the only well-known track from this album. It’s important and has its place in the annals of music history, but when it comes to members of both The Beatles and Nirvana, many people look at anything they do/did with rose tinted glasses.

This was good... And it has a lot of significance... But nearly every Beatles album is better than this Lennon solo album... Yes, Imagine is good.

Sadly I did not finish

It’s John Lennon but it wasn’t that great.

I mean... it's fine. Some cool song variety. But "Imagine" just feels condescending in 2025, knowing what we do about how John and Yoko lived. I find the personnel on this album to be more interesting than Lennon himself lol. Legendary session drummer Jim Gordon (hope he doesn't go and do anything crazy like kill his mother with a hammer) and George Harrison ('All Things Must Pass' is still THE best post-Beatles release, fight me)

Oh fuck you, you're going to give me The White Album and then Imagine back to back? I'm already having a shitty week. I don't deserve to be subjected to the most self-indulgent works of the Beatles. John Lennon needed to be with Paul McCartney to write a great song, but the converse was not true. This whole album just feels uninspired. It's hard to give it too bad a score, but, like, come on John Lennon 3/5

I was expecting to roll my eyes a lot during this, and I did. The Phil Spector production is great and there are still a lot of good tunes, but also John Lennon just comes off as a massive wanker pretty frequently.

Bit boring

Not a huge listener of Lennon's individual music, this album was a mixed bag for me, starting off strong with Imagine and Crippled inside which are both great songs, I found most of the tracks in the middle to be sort of unremarkable, not bad by any means but slightly forgettable to me personally. I was woken up again by How do you sleep and Oh Yoko, both of which I actually enjoyed very much. Overall pretty mediocre album with a few gems. Fav song: Imagine

Good album didn’t really connect with me but I find this is a lot for lennons solo albums. Favourite oh yoko

John Lennon and Phil Spector - two bad guys who make good music. John really shines in the more personal/grounded tracks. Having already been familiar with Imagine (which is… overhyped) and Jealous Guy (great song) I found myself going back to Oh My love quite a bit. He really shows a soft and tender side (how ironic) and overall I think this album is a very strong case that John can stand alone the strongest compared to his old bandmates. Having Spector I’m sure helped as well. Overall it’s good, I don’t think it really has any weak points, just points that aren’t as good.

The title track is honestly not as good as I remembered it being, and the rest of this album is simply just adequate. Nothing jumps out as good or bad, its all pretty forgettable Best Song: Imagine Rating: 6.0/10 3 Stars

6/10. Unfortunately, I didn't really feel any connection with this album. The Beatles are one of the most important bands to ever exist, and the title track of this album has been heavily covered. Yet, the overall album feels...stale.

Not a bad album. I liked a couple songs. The rest I could leave on as background music while I'm preoccupied with a task.

-ah the (in?)famous Imagine album about which I have heard so much. I wasn’t completely blown away like I was with a lot of the Beatles’ main stuff, but it was decent -turns out John needed Paul after all I guess -I do really like some of the experimentation with sound and atmosphere on songs like I Don’t Wanna Be A Soldier Mama, it was interesting -Favorites are Imagine, Crippled Inside, and How Do You Sleep?

Hmm… there are two good songs: Jealous Guy and Gimme the Truth… but that’s about it. Imagine was overplayed in my childhood, so I never need to listen to it again Lennon without the Beatles is just not for me.

Саундтрек для любого фильма 70ых. Imagine была отличной песней до 2020 года, жаль что кавер знаменитостей испортил его…У Oh my love замечательная мелодия. Cripple inside - заставляет задуматься кто ты. I don’t want to be a soldier - тинейджерский гимн

It does has Imagine on it, but that isn't enough to make it four stars. Solid three.

Fine I guess? Nothing really grabbed my attention, but the title track is genuinely great even after the pandemic butchering and general levels of cliche

Imagine is a classic, despite Gal's awful quarantimes version. Rest was OK, had to skip partway through Don't Wanna Be a Soldier and Gimme Some Truth, so repetitive.

I've never actually listened to a full John Lennon solo album, curious what the songs are like outside of the obvious hits. Pretty solid, sounds just like that guy from the Beatles. HA. Man a lot of these songs are surprisingly repetitive, like I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier Mama and Give Me Some Truth, kinda just the same thing over and over. Oh yeah I forgot that there's a weird Paul diss track on this album. Overall pretty good album, not a ton of standout tracks outside of Imagine though in my opinion on one listen.

Imagine a world without the Beatles

This album has two great songs (Imagine and Jealous Guy), a few OK ones (e.g. How do you sleep) and some mediocre ones (e.g. Crippled inside). Much like most Beatles albums you could say. As an 'album', to be played in its entirety, I don't particularly like it.

Mixed. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Some great tracks. Jealous Guy is lovely. Think I’ve heard Imagine far too much. Some tracks feel a little bit like a demo/jam that’s not fully finished.

Interesting! It’s hard to take imagine seriously these days, but obviously a classic. The next song is very hunky dory and not expected but I’m glad I had the experience, not sure it will be on repeat. The latter half of the album was the most memorable and ‘underrated’. Nothing to out there but just good listenable music.

This verges on annoying on some tracks, but some of them are just really nice. Oh Yoko! is a real delight, and I'm a fan of the titular track, even if I always think of Cee Lo Green once doing a version where he idiotically changed it to "and all religions true."

Still enamored by the blues, still experimenting with different ideas, still capable of writing songs every person on earth will know through cultural osmosis. Sometimes I'm not super thrilled about all those things though.

YAY JOHN LENNON ..I got bored and didn't listen to the whole thing.

As a kid, I would have given this a 5. As the album hits it the middle group of songs, it becomes more average. By the end you realize Spector’s production is the only thing making some of the average songs great, along with mysticism around Lennon’s celebrity. As an adult with a new perspective, the album is good, but not as big as I once thought it was. I would give this: 3.5⭐️

The recording quality is kinda bad and makes the album less pleasant to listen too. Also the lyrics if some songs are questionable

Yeah, its not the beatles but its still good.

I like a few of the songs, but in general this wasn’t that inspiring

Imagine (song) is deservedly an all-timer. The rest of the album was fine but not that interesting to me.

The title track is a classic and there’s some nice other singles here but it falls short of the quality of his group works and the experimental tracks sound too rough in most places for my liking

Good album. I don’t think any of the Beatles are as good as solo artists as they were as a group.

Not bad. But 'Oh Yoko!' is cringe. Favourite tracks: Imagine, Crippled Inside, Oh My Love, How Do You Sleep?

- dawno nie czułem takiego cringu słuchając piosenki, the cheesiest of all cheeses, taka o, pioseneczka-laureczka, ale śmierdzi mi komercyjną próbą stworzenia sweet love song na kilometr - BLEH. :( 2,5/5

Pas mon artiste préféré, 7/10 quand même

This guy is kinda full of himself? Good songs though.

Thought plastic ono band was better

I was gonna joke that I'd rather listen to Yoko's solo (and so far listening to Fly this is more my speed) but this wasn't bad at all. Inconsistent as for me half the songs were great and sound nice and the other half are just country/blues tunes without much to add or for me to enjoy but other than that, it's a pretty nice album

A bit underwhelming for what I expected based on the reception, but decent nonetheless. Highlights: Imagine It's So Hard

Sometimes sublime, sometimes derivative. One transcendent song does not a transcendent album make.

I've been kind of fearing getting into rock music, since I don't really like screamo rock or rock-and-roll very much, but I'm enjoying the art rock and soft rock albums I've heard so far. This album was a somewhat acceptable soft rock album. Starting with the negatives, my least favorite song was probably Crippled Inside, a little too country-leaning for me. I prefer my country songs artsy and not honkey-tonk. The blues-ier songs like It's So Hard were also not my favorite. Plus, I wasn't a huge fan of Lennon's voice throughout the whole album. However, there are some really pretty arrangements in the album. Imagine is a nice listen, and Oh My Love is both a beautiful instrumental and uses Lennon's voice for good. I think he'd be really good as a folk singer. Unfortunately, his voice brings down several other songs I would have otherwise liked, such as How? The album kicks off on its highest point with Imagine, and then it's only down from there. I kept on waiting for it to get better, but it never did. If someone asked me how I liked it, I'd probably say that its "alright."

Really enjoyed when it ended

Jealous and how are great others are mid

Some decent songs but didn't think much of the album overall. Didn't find it particularly cohesive. 'Imagine' of course is a classic but one that never sat that well with me. 'Jealous Guy' is probably my favourite on the album. At points it harked back to the Beatles sounds but with less impact, this is obvious due to Lennon's a driving creative force in the band. Ultimately it feels a mix-match of styles with a few songs sounding like less interesting Beatles hits, one the same but Dylan and another The Doorsesque. It could very well be a slow burner album and I should come back to it in the future but aside from 'Jealous Guy' and maybe 'How do you sleep?' I'd probably rather just listen to Beatles albums.

Album is okay. Imagine is legendary. But it is nowhere close to Beatles. Distribution politics seems wrong.

I think imagine was my least favorite song on the album. I really liked how it hit rock and roll, ballads, and bar room blues. A diverse album that ends a little early. I’m not sure I agree that it’s hard to hide when you’re crippled inside.

Ok, a bit boring, 6/10.

It’s Lennon and therefore never going to be that bad. Lots of people like to take swipes at John for being a hypocrite but people need to look in a mirror every once in a while. He was a flawed human being, a work in progress, like all of us. He happened to know it though. At this point in his life he was writing for himself and not for profit- so you’ll have to forgive some of the more navel gazing pieces.

Two evergreen songs like Imagine and Jealous Guy and a few averages. I think 3 stars is a decent score.

It's aight. Will I listen to again: 10%

This album didn't really do anything for me. It's good music. But not my style and I won't come back to it.

It started off at 4, then in the middle it went to 3, and then I just waited for it to be over tbh
