Reviews (page 4 of 8)
Me copa. 6/10
Album was alright, definitely interesting, but nothing I'd probably come back for. I still enjoyed the ride enough. Like a ~3.25
This felt mellow which I liked, but it loses steam halfway through. Very accessible music and easy to listen to but there’s not much differentiation because of it.
Familiar with all the sing along singles from this album. The rest are more of the same. Not too bad for a Sunday afternoon. Fall at your feet by far the best track.
booring
Polite young fogies. Tasteful but insubstantial
I don't think I've ever heard this band, but their songs sound familiar. Just like the 90s.
A perfectly alright alt-rock sounding thing by band I’ve never heard of. Not particularly remarkable or memorable, but good
I think I would like Crowded House's debut album over this one. This was fine I guess but it just didn't resonate enough to get the added star.
ok album. nothing really jumped out at me to say, this is awesome.
This should be the album that all other albums are compared to. It's the least offensive album possible, while being the least exciting album possible. This is the most generic, almost algorithmic music possible. This is a 3.0000000.
Enjoyed, an easy relaxing listen. Enjoyed enough to explore other works by them.
This is the fourth 1990s album I've generated in the past six days, and each one sounds completely different. The goofy song titles, and obscure lyrics make this album interesting on its own, but it lacked emotion, and the passion that comes with artists. Favorite Track: "All I Ask".
Very well crafted pop rock.

An okay album, neither good nor bad, but easy to listen to
Pleasant listening.
i don't really know how I feel about this, it was good, but like idk
I’d call it a feel-good album. At times it can be a bit dull, and I also don’t get that feeling of putting it on and melting into the thought, “this is a masterpiece.” “Weather With You” is definitely the strongest point. 5/10
Chill album with great song writing and lovely harmonies
Just a damn solid pop rock record, don't get the hate
Enjoyable enough but completely unremarkable
Really pleasant music. Sounded like the kind of thing the friends on Friends would have been really psyched to go see in concert. Like REM but not as cool. I think I mean all of this in a complimentary way.
Started off with some country vibes, which I wasn't sold on. Going forward it was more regular rock, and sounded like an imitation of early R.E.M. Everything also felt like the opposite of danger. Everything just sounded so... safe. Even the songs with distorted guitars. If you want to offend exactly 0 people with you music choice, this is the album the play. I did find 'Fall At Your Feet' and 'Weather With You' to be quite nice tracks. But other than that I didn't find that much. It wasn't necessarily too long, but there were too many songs. Weak 3.
I’ve never heard of this band before. I guess they’re okay. Nothing special to me.
Nothing special but nothing overly offensive to the ears either. I like their hits, but didn’t see any on this album.
Better than expected.
This was my played frequently in the early 90s and the band have an affinity with the Tartan Army that can’t really be explained given they are from down under. Overall, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Nothing remarkable but no bad tracks. Needed one standout to make it a 4.
Ever looked an album and gone “yep, that’s a 3”?
as someone who owns a weiner, "There goes God in his sexy pants and his sausage dog" had me cracking up. they sure have a lot to say about american culture and justifiably so.. musically it's pretty dynamic. I'm surprised this was created in the 90's. Bit of funk, punk rock, acid rock, and grunge. 3.5
5/10 Enjoyable listen but something I probably won't revisit.
5/10
It's alright. A bit dull. Stand out song - weather with you, She goes on
this was mostly enjoyable but the opening track bordered on bad
Started off good, ended up being another boring soft/pop rock album around the halfway mark; please get me out of this loop.
Ok, but I couldn’t get into it
Only heard Don't Dream It's Over before so I was ready to hear something similar. I think the album had a different kind of vibe but it was still pretty good. Nice 3/5
Enough for three stars, but not enough for more. ★★★
I'm, as far as I know, unfamiliar with this. But they have 14 million monthly listeners on Spotify so I would guess that I have to have heard one or two of these, right? It's pretty much exactly what I expected from the cover though, kind of funny how you can just tell sometimes. It's sort of sunny and upbeat but isn't thin sounding like some of this kind of music of the time. Tight bass and drums. (For the most part) interesting lyrics. It's a little simple and weak but it was fun to listen to on a Friday morning. It would be good to play at the beginning of a road trip before you start getting tired from driving. But the album is about 4 songs too long for my taste. I got a little bored with it at the end. It doesn't really make me want to listen to more from them but it was good once. However, 'there goes God in his sexy pants and his sausage dog' is absolutely classic. But I wish the whole album was more like the outro in the last minute. 3/5
Fornøyelig
There really is no shortage of bands I’ve never heard of. Perfectly pleasant and well produced but I didn’t find any of it interesting.
It didn't bother me so it can't be that bad.
meh
I tell you what was a crowded house looked like. Len Houmous’ after his third marriage. 12 kids, 3 wives, 14 dogs. 3.1 2/14 It’s Only Natural
Quirky Interesting 80s indie pop meisters Channeling 70s bland radio MOR. Unfortunately the later wins out too often. If I wanted to listen to the Eagles I would listen to The Eagles .. well I probably wouldn’t but you get the point. Just about enough interesting elements (lyrics, intro to there goes god, and the section that comprise “fame is”, “ all I ask” , “Italian plastic” and then maybe “take the weather” ) to bump this up to a 3
I've only heard one Crowded House song before I listened to this album, and it wasn't even on here. It was fine. A good example of vocal forward 90s pop.
Top 100 album on the list according to Larkin? It’s a good album, I can see why it’s ranked like that. Consistent throughout and each song has its charm. A bit dated for my taste though. Kinda reminds me to REM.
I just reached album number 800!!! And there is no better way to celebrate than an album devoid of any emotion or soul. This sounds like a worse version of Steely Dan tried to write the dumbest blandest songs ever. Nothing here is bad, but nothing this is really anything. This is also one of the most 80's sounding 90's album. I will forget I listed to this by the end of the day. Low 3.
Etonnant mais pas si pire
Decent. I liked the lead singer’s voice. I owned a cover of a song on this album (Four Seasons in One Day by the lead singer of The View). I didn’t even know that was a Crowded House song.
Highlights: Fall At Your Feet, Whispers and Moans. Crowded House is a sentimental favourite for the Australian and NZ Gen X alt rock/pop crowd. Just like The Go-Betweens. It's in the lyrics (Tim and Neil are underrated singer-songwriters) and the band's approachability. On the flip side one could also interpret it as jangly easy listening slop. If you're on the fence, I encourage you to find the Song Exploder podcast episode on "Don't Dream It's Over", a single from the band's self titled debut. It might change your mind. Overall: 6/10

I never really got into Crowded House/Neil Finn and on first listen, I didn’t really find anything here to get me excited.
Ok- I was ready to give this a 2 based on their name. But honestly, I thought it was clever and listenable. Had a REM-y vibe.
Perfectly generic 90s pop rock. Pleasant, but not memorable.
Good but soft rock isn't my thing
I've never heard any of these songs. I liked them.
For an antipodian band, this was really good. Great melodies, some interesting guitar effects, no wolf howling or goofiness I normally associate with this part of the world, but there was some spark missing to make it great. Its difficult to rate because of this.
Very good alt-rock rock album that feels inspired by the Beatles. At times, it reminded me of some Britpop bands, but there are a range of styles on this album. Overall, nice in the moment but didn’t leave a lasting impression.
Cool rock album that is surprisingly tight. The production is really nice too and impressively clean for 1991. Listening on newish studio monitors and the layer separation is amazing.. I can hear so many elements very distinctly. Bravo to the producers on this one. Nice songs too, I didn't really hear anything that I didn't like, which is unique. The only downside that I came across was that I wish the main vocalist had a little bit more of a distinct sound.. which I kind of hate to say in feedback because a voice is what it is and you can't really do too much without it sounding "put on" or fake. But I can't help but want more here. Still a really nice album!
it was okay
This was a decent album but not great. I've always liked the harmonies they can produce and the musicality they have is excellent. That said, while many slobber over them about their songwriting, I find that their lyrics are too heavy handed at times (and this is coming from someone who absolutely loves Don't Dream It's Over). That's the case on this record, where the highlights are what they construct musically much more so than what they are signing. To be sure, there are a few excellent tracks on here, including Fall at Your Feet, Weather with You, and There Goes God. But more often than not, these songs just fail to deliver. Adds up to an average album for me. Their debut would have been a much better inclusion on this list.
Beatles at home that isn't Oasis.
Solid and well writtwn
Decent alternative band from the 90’s- 20’s. Some good songs.
Maybe good, but i dont realy like. Rate 6/10
Great band, good album few classics
- There's nothing "wrong" with this record but there's also not a whole lot that stands out as well. I vaguely remember the one brief hit but now it just doesn't hit the same ... which can be said about the entire record. It's perfectly competent, not very interesting writing and performance ... the record is right smack dab in the middle .... 2.5 rounded up because the musicians are skilled. -
Some decent pop singles and harmonies, but a lot of dull filler.
Barely a worthy listen but it had some interesting stuff. Don’t need to revisit.
Soft rock adult contemporary? Not really sure how to categorize this one. It’s an easy calm listen that’s well done. Middle of the road.
I know all five singles VERY well. As a person who grew up in Australia during the 90s, those tracks were inescapable. All five singles still rate highly, even Chocolate Cake. But the rest of the album is light filler. Sorry Neil. Depending on how charitable I’m feeling Woodface rates a 3-4 out of 5 stars.
They want to be REM so bad
mid
It's an okay album but I don't really understand how anyone could hear this and consider it a must listen
++: Chocolate Cake, It's Only Natural, Whispers and Moans, There Goes God, Fames Is, All I Ask, Italian Plastic +: Fall at Your Feet, Tall Trees, Weather with You, Four Seasons in One Day, She Goes On +-: As Sure as I Am, How Will You Go/I'm Still Here 7,2/10
Inoffensive, not my bag
An average, average album. The two songs of theirs I knew were not here. They do some OK Beatles-like harmonies. One of the guys sounds like George Harrison. Not bad, not special enough to be here really.
OK, nothing to write home about but nothing bad either
Feels like an attempt at making a Prefab Sprout album, but not the worst it could have gone.
Decently enjoyable, but I feel like it's lacking some oomph. Not particularly memorable.
It was ok. Really good melodies but nothing else really grabbed me. Favorite track: Fall At Your Feet
Great memories of car trips from my childhood. In and of itself though, not actually that great musically.
Fine but kind of the same.
Ya it’s ok.
A brilliantly shining example of perfectly average.
This all feels very familiar despite only knowing Weather With You. This kind of pop rock always takes me back to Summer evenings in the garden with my family and despite this album not being a part of the rotation for that it would have fit in perfectly. Playlist track: Tall Trees
Another perfectly listenable but completely forgettable rock album. You can safely skip it.
Fall at Your Feet and Weather With You are the highlights on a pleasant but middling album.
All new to me. Interesting. Probably won’t listen again. But high 2 gets it a 3.
Solid album. Has that early-mid 90’s pop/folk/alt rock feel. Reminds of BNL and Blues Traveller. Notable tracks include Chocolate Cake, It’s Only Natural, Fall At Your Feet, Weather With You, Four Seasons In One Day, All I Ask.
A classic! Very nostalgic. None of the other songs are quite as good as the most popular ones but it’s a fun, kooky easy listen. I’ll never skip a Crowded House song.
Weak. The poor man's Beatles - and I don't even like them.
Very 90s
Me lembra um pouco R.E.M. Bom disco. 3.5/5
I was surprised by how many of these songs I knew - I guess there were five singles from this album. There's no denying that the Finns are good songwriters, but I can't help but wish they were delivered with a little more edge.
Chocolate cake is my favorite song
Ok
I liked it more than I thought I would. It wasn't bad, nice arrangement.
Some cool grooves on here. I particularly like the opening track. They also manage to hit some CSNY style harmonies which is cool. The drawback is that it’s cheesy at times and has some intense late 80s early 90s textures.
Sad but great
Ereignislos
Very wholesome dad rock. Not quite as sexy as Steely Dan, not as "raw" as Bon Jovi, this is more acoustic, musically elaborate, melodically competent pop-rock. It doesn't stop being what it is because it's well executed. It's easy to appreciate, and I find it curious I hadn't heard about them or this album before, there's a lot of classic radio standards that aren't as well made as this project is. The whole album has potential, it's really impressive. It's still fundamentally boring for me. 2.6/5
Coining a brand new, never before used phrase for this album: not too shabby
Tja, allt í lagi.
Plenty of pretty harmonizing, but so bland I can already tell that I’m not going to remember this album later today.
Gentler than I expect.
This was fine, nothing that I'd relisten to but fine to have on in the background as I worked
This had a really fun sound in between but wasn't consistent enough.
I thought this was a fun album. It was pretty easy listening
Really enjoyed this one. Catchy pop/rock with quite a few songs that stood out. Weather with you, four seasons in one day, there goes god are all great. Overall a solid 3.5/5
Decent but forgettable
Meh… It’s fine.
Never ever heard of this band. I would describe them as “roots-pop” with a sprinkle of alternative rock guitar. Most of the album sounds like the dying gasp of 1980s pop-rock (kinda like Warrant’s ‘Cherry Pie’ was one of the last hair band hits in 1990). There was nothing bad about this album, but nothing really stood out; just had a pretty generic sound to it, stuck between eras of music. Good to listen to what else was going on in music in 1991, as Nevermind, Ten, and Badmotorfinger all releasing that year effectively buried this kind of music. 3/5
This was such a good album. I'd forgotten that Crowded House did the song, "Weather With You." I'll be adding this into my rotation.
# Playlist Track - Weather With You # Notes - Not a bad album at all. Not too exciting, either. - Bland 90's pop rock. I'll forget about it soon, but had a decent time listening to it.
I was expecting less, to be honest, but it turned out to be a pretty fun and enjoyable pop rock album. There are a couple of songs that are especially good (Chocolate Cake, Tall Trees, Fame Is), but all other are also decent and not boring. Good album but nothing out of this world. 7/10
Had a bit of a 90s revival weekend with this and kd lang being generated. Actually the kd lang record came from 1988 but she had most success in the following decade, similar to Crowded House actually who also started in the previous decade too. I was looking forward to this one, I know and like most of the singles but I'm not really familiar with their full catalogue. This record showcases what a great pop songwriter Neil Finn is but a few of the tracks seemed a bit like filler. I would like to give this 3.5 stars because it's definitely better than a 3 but it doesn't really do anything new or exciting to m fully merit a 4.
It's something
A mid record from my birth year. Could grow on me.
Decent but not too memorable
A great album that ticks many boxes - no filler, hummable tunes, familiarity, consistency etc., but ... it just doesn't hold my attention when I play it. I always drift away at some point and its left doing its thing in the background with no-one listening.
This felt like it was trying too hard and a mishmash of vocals, melodies, and rhythms.
Gonna give this a 3 because that's where it lives - not interesting enough to merit either a higher or lower score, but just solidly middle of the road. Tasteful, nice if you like that kind of thing, kind of boring. Like Squeeze if they were less interesting.
Easy listening, not bad but quite forgettable
Decent pop album. Nothing really wowed me but there were several moments of fun.
Not bad, familiar songs on there, seems a little grating at the moment though, possibly due to the mix
Good album, fun listen! 6.8/10
Very well written, great production & performance. "All I Ask" with the strings was a highlight. "There Goes God" has the exact amount of camp I'm looking for in my music. My biggest complaint is tempos dragged through some of the songs and a few songs felt like filler. The overall message is good, but it's also kinda forgettable and I don't think I'd listen again (maybe except "There Goes God"). It's a good album, but kinda confusing why it's in the 1001 albums list. 3/5.
I honestly don't know much about these guys outside of their mega-hit "Don't Dream It's Over". It's hard to tell what the singles were here. I don't know how to describe it, but the Aussie pop rock sound is fairly distinguishable. Mostly acoustic-based and easy to listen to. Lukewarm but not a terrible listen.
Cannot stand Dylan. Did not listen.
Probably the biggest group that I’d never heard of from this list - 12 million monthly listeners (ig mostly from their top song?). I recognized their most famous song but nothing on the album. Album was ok.
Know the band, not the music so much, so let’s see what we’ve got… Really pretty basic and the lyrics are beyond cringe at times. Can’t tell if they are meant to be comical or this is their attempt at clever and meaningful 🤷🏻♂️ Middle of the road defined. Can hear a bit of Sheryl Crow, bit of Manic Street Preachers and a sprinkling of REM (oh and Simply Red). Very meh, and at worst, cheesy. Happy to start a song, leave the room and expect the exact same thing 3 minutes later. Enjoy Weather With You, just because of nostalgia, but more than happy to finish this early. Amazed at the amount of 5 stars on this.
They really do have more songe than you think. There are moments of pop genius, intertwined with bits of padding. You can't deny the highlights.
Didn’t have their big hits but it was a solid effort. A little laid back but good vocals and music.
feels like very 90s sunny vibe. Just not into it.
Returning to this project after a month long break, and I’m very relieved the algorithm gave me a mellow album to ease back into things. I think I agree with other reviews that called this good background music. It’s a pleasant enough listen. Most of the choruses fall short for me. There Goes God did stand out though, haha. I would have liked to see more of the energy displayed at the end of the last track throughout the album. 3/5
I wasn’t blown away by this album but I could say that I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t know this band going in, but this album is super chill and fairly short. The first time I played the album I got to near the end of the album before I realized how much of the album had gone by. So it’s a completely inoffensive album as a whole but also big stretches of it are a little boring/safe. I did appreciate their attempt to add some variety in sounds to the album, I enjoyed those tracks the most. Honestly as a whole, my biggest problem is just that the album is slower and I always struggle to connect with slower music. Loved the album artwork as well, I know that’s not important to most people but I think it’s important and I enjoy this album cover a lot. At the end of the day if I saw this album for under $20 I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
Good but no standouts 3/5
Three songs in, three good songs. Nothing revolutionary but good songwriting and playing. 2 I especially liked. 5 is another undeniable banger. 6 good 7 nice ballad 9 not the strongest. 10 much nices ballad 11 lovely vocals (generally good vocals on the record, Neil Finn's tome is very nice). 12 not essential. 13 is a highlight. 14 aswell. Beautiful song. I agree with some reviews here that it's not a very exiting one, but I quit liked it . The songwriting is good, vocals are good, instrumentation also I'd say that it gave me appetite for more neil Finn project and that there is a place for this mellower yet quality albums on here. It's a 3.5
It was okay not something I would listen to though
This website has given me lots of albums lately that have just been “Ok.” This is one of them. The first half of the album is like a 7.5-8/10, then goes down to a 6 on the latter half, with a lot of it just being the audio equivalent of chicken and rice. Truly the album of all time.
This was pretty good, but not great. Overall, I'd describe it as monochromatic.
3 1/2 Stars: A perfectly cromulent album. Nice harmonies and some clever writing. Catchy tracks, but nothing that really sticks with you long-term. It's perfectly...fine.
Hip church
It’s inoffensive, but not particularly memorable. I couldn’t hum one of the songs for you, if I were asked to do so. It didn’t annoy me, it didn’t impress me; it’s the epitome of “fine”.
It's fine. I don't know. Just very middle of the road pop-rock, with a couple of very nice moments. It's pleasant to listen to so I can't fault it for that. But it doesn't move any of my needles, unfortunately. THREE STARS
Another album that I shouldn't have judged by the album art. I thought it was going to be terrible, but it turned out to be pretty fun. Good soft rock, nice music, and a soothing voice. No real highlights, but no duds either. A solid album all the way through. Best song: Chocolate Cake
Favourite Track: Weather with you
This was ... fine? I have no idea why this album cover is sticking out to me so much - must have been a weird part of my childhood.
day 20: pretty decent jangly aussie pop rock. fits the era and sounds nice. not something i’d seek to listen to again and again but a good album from an average era of music. maybe a little bloated of samey-sounding songs but not many criticisms. really like this album cover tho, reminds me of talk talk.
Ringing endorsement here: I do not hate Woodface. It is mostly pablum. The lead track and single "Chocolate Cake" references Tammy Bakker, a televangelist popular in the 1980s along with her then-husband Jim Bakker before he was convicted of felony fraud. I have a theory that Wikipedia would label original research, but here goes. With the rise of cable television in the 1980s, there were still less than 100 channels. So anyone who could get themselves on those channels had a good chance of being popular. Televangelists had more reach and popularity in the 1980s due to the fact that they had their own cable channels--like the Bakker's PTL (Praise The Lord) Network. Then, of course, you also had the music video evangelism of MTV. So, whether you were Tammy Bakker or Crowded House, if you got yourself on cable TV back in the day, you had a good chance of finding an audience.
One of my favorite genres of song is always, like, Scathing Critique Of American Excess, written by: Guy From A Different First-World Country. Never fails to make me laugh. Anyway I’d never heard of these guys but I like their style okay
My 3-month old really likes the song don’t dream it’s over. This is my first album experience with them. Decent.
I actually liked it more than I thought I would. I'm not a fan of the singles I knew before this, but this album seemed pretty decent.
Decent but kinda boring. 2.75/5
Good songwriting and good performance/production. Not sure what qualifies it as "must-hear".
This was a very nice 3.5, I enjoyed it although not much of it really stuck with me after one listen. The singles slap. Would probs need to listen again to have stronger feelings about this.
Not bad. Enjoyed their overall vibe.
Some good songs, one or two really good, and a lot of filler. This would have been better if it was a shorter album.
Fine
cool but that's all
= The Beatles Perfectly fine
This isn’t as bad as I was expecting. It starts off as a talking heads clone but turns into its own thing.
Not bad - pretty good melodies.
This made me depressed. It doesn't have their pop perfection masterpiece Don't Dream It's Over. It sounds entirely forgettable in a way that made me very sad. So much time and money put into something no one will ever care about.
It's nice to get an album from down under (and even better that they hail from both Australia and New Zealand), but aside from their geographical origins I'm not sure there's much distinctive to this album. I'm pretty sure I've heard a few of their singles, possibly even from this album, but their version of pop-rock isn't really to my taste. "Chocolate Cake" and "Tall trees" were the only tracks that grabbed me a bit, although they were completely offset by songs (and videos) like the sappy "Weather with you" or "All I ask".
Enjoyed this quirky band, though none of the songs lingered with me, though the one about Italian plastic hit hard--I once paid more than you would think for an Italian plastic lamp.
They were OK - some catchy songs, but nothing special. Maybe a 2.5? I will round up.
not bad
Pedestrian
Solid Album 1. Four Seasons in One Day 2. Chocolate Cake 3. Tall Trees
A familiar sound but not one I would probably listen to again.
A pleasant suprise
Some standout tunes. Mostly fine.
Pretty good
1991? I'd have guessed later like 96/97 probably based on Don't Dream It's Over which looks as though it was a re-release of an 80s song? Had a debate for some reason with someone on way back from soccer who said they were Aussie, I said NZ. Turns out we were both right, and wrong The result? Palatable Antipodean jangle-pop.
Some of the hits are great. Wonderful melodies, and I’d forgotten how good the Beatlesesque harmonies on “it’s only natural” were. There is also a fair bit of middle of the road pleasantry on here too though which it was a challenge not to skip over. Glad I rediscovered some of the hits. Not one I’ll be digging into from start to finish again.
Not a bad album to listen to in the morning
That is nice album. Two songs i've added to a personal playlist (Chocolate cake and Fall at your feet). But at whole record sounds to me plain and not much interesting.
Some nice melodies spread throughout the album, most notably "Four Seasons in A Day", but all in all, it didn't excite me much
good
I knew a few of these songs going in, but enjoyed this more than I thought. Some pleasant pop numbers, little flashes of Beatles and Fleetwood Mac vocal Melodies. Good stuff.
Was fun listening to this, I remember all the hits from the radio from back in the day. That said, the non-single tracks aren't really that interesting to me. They fall kind of flat without the nostalgia attached to them. They do have their own sound. Between INXS, Split Enz and the Dundee scene, this continent really brings it's own flavour of pop music to the table.
I didn't know that weather song is by them, so I guess they're a two hit wonder. Anyways, this was a decent record.
Easy listening, typical (boring) 90s pop rock. But not offensive, so low 3.
Nothing special, not unenjoyable. Great background noise.
First thoughts: Crowded House = "Weather With You"! "It's Only Natural" is o.k. too. But the rest of this album is way too lame and unremarkable for my taste. 2,5
Recognised a couple of songs Fave song : chocolate cake
"Weather WIth You" +++ "Four Seasons in One Day" ++ "She Goes On" +
Nothing really stood out either way. Definitely liked it more than disliked but not something I’d go back to immediately.
solid!
As per usual it seems, this is my first listen to this album, start to finish. Let's go!! 3.4/5
Perfectly decent, forgettable music
This was better than I expected
Not bad, I enjoyed it more than the offerings of the last two days.
This one was fine, just no real standouts for me.
it is ok - I like the earlier albums better
Very beatles like
This is a fine album. I don't meant fine as in good quality, I mean fine as in satisfactory. An "it'll do" type of album. Some tracks are a little bland and forgettable, although some are catchy and it evens out to probably about 3.5-ish. 'It's Only Natural' has a memorable chorus, 'Tall Trees' and 'Fame Is' are short and sweet pop rock tunes, 'Four Seasons In One Day' is a lovely track. 'How Will You Go' is a really nice, calm closer and shows off my favourite thing about this album which is Neil Finn on vocals. I think he has a really lovely and quite distinct voice and it's on the closing track and my favourite 'Weather With You' where it really shines. The latter is just one of those songs that for some reason I just know and has always been around. I think it's a great, slightly dreamy, psychedelic and catchy pop track. The rest is a bit unexceptional and I could take or leave on any given day or mood.
Some of these sound like hits, but I've never heard of them or the songs. 3.4.
I think this was fine. I don't actually remember listening to it, and I'm not sure if that's more of a commentary on the destruction of my memory and my mental health or the blandness of the album. Personal enjoyment: 3/5 Relevance to this list: 2/5
Middle of the road. Music for parents.
Just an ok album. Nothing stood out
Soft alternative rock. Not too bad but felt like the same song 10 different times.
Overall, this was a cool album to come across on the generator. It’s a well balanced mix of jangle pop, power pop, and sophisti-pop, which are all elements I really enjoy. That said, I have to admit, I don’t think it quite deserves a spot on a top album list. There were definitely some catchy and melodic segments that I found really enjoyable, but at times, I didn’t particularly care for the sound of his voice. Still, it wasn’t distracting or bad enough to ruin the album, it just didn’t always click for me.
Fav: Weather With You Least Fav: She Goes On It’s an alright album but some of these songs are so nostalgic so I can’t hate on it
Far from bad album, I can’t help but think it’s “REM-lite” when I listen to it. It sounds nice and is well performed, and tbh Crowded House is probably a band I would have liked if I was a 20 something in the late 80s. I was only a baby though and they’re not a band that’s ever drawn me in other than Don’t Dream It’s Over, which obviously slaps.
The vocals reminded me of a 90’s Prefab Sprout. Instrumentals sounded very clean. I enjoyed this while it was on, but there were so many songs on here that felt forgettable. Favorite songs were Fall At Your Feet, Weather With You, and Italian Plastic.
My most pressing thought here, listening to (semi-) Australian pop rock featuring an occasional harmonica and looking at the book's inclusions again as well as reading the reviews is how I must have slipped into an alternate reality in which INXS' Kick never existed.
This album is kinda neat. Just some easy-listening soft rock. Nothing is really jumping at me to keep my attention, but I appreciate the good production and songwriting. Strings on “All I Ask” were a cool surprise
Good enough to make the list. Not good enough to make me remember they're on it
Not hating this at all, slatki su mi oni i ima mi tu dobrih stvari. 3/5, 6/10
A bit fun but not a standout or something I consider to be great. Another album with a lot of different styles, I was getting heavy (lol) yacht rock vibes at the start. Then it got to more classic 80s (I’m a big don’t dream it’s over fan). And some interesting 90s indie at the end
- chocolate cake: funny lyrics, groovy, ordered and nice guitar in middle - it's only natural: cheesy or weird but not bad lyrics, good solid music. Guitar is set free now and then. - fall at your feet: solid straight flow, not bad vocals. Instrumentals are tender and fits together - tall trees: good for the first time listen but can't imagine listening again. It's alright. - weather with you: snake handler guy kind music, nice lyrics, flows nicely - whisper and moans: good start, little less middle and not bad end - four seasons in one day: nice title. And lyrics. Vocals are nice. Music fits together. - there goes god: nice beginning. Very nice instrumental. Nice lyrics.
I enjoyed this one. It simple, effective, creative and young. My favourites: chocolate cake and weather with you .
Ok.
Consistently good melodies with a laid-back but engaging sound.
chocolate cake - grooovy, i love the layered vocals. feels like a song you would walk down the street to if you were the tall coolgirl love interest with big hair in a movie can tell it’s early 90s bc it still has a bit more of an 80s vibe liked fall at your feet a lot just a bunch of happy, groovy songs about love prob 3/5 - no strong feelings but no criticisms really either
a couple good tracks, generally not my speed per say. at least not to listen all the way through
Good, liked chocolate cake, and the entire album was very entertaining. Not the most sophisticated, but fun nonetheless.
One hit wonders
Not bad but nothing really stood out.
A pleasant surprise of an album. A fun ride!
For some reason I like Crowded House even though the style is not my favorite. I really like their debut, not sure why this one is on the list and the other is not.
Pleasant and uncompelling.
Crowded House is always a pleasant listen. 80s vibe ✨️
Easy, chill vibes. Fav songs were chocolate cake and weather with you. Beginning of album is fun and spunky and then songs get slower and more sultry.
ok
heard a lot of this as singles. wasn't offensive.
Non mi è dispiaciuto.
It’s fine but not essential. Seriously, why is this on this list?
Some songs about the weather. Some slow, slow, ballads. Hidden song at the end was pretty great. Not my favorite CH album but a nice reminder of them at that time.
chocolate cake- 5 its only natural- 5 fall at your feet- 5 tall trees- 5 weather with you- 5 whispers and moans- 5 four seasons in one day- 5 there goes god- 5 fame is- 5 all i ask- 5 as sure as i am- 5 italian plastic- 5 she goes on- 5 how will you go- 5 mid
Crowded House did really well in the 80's and to be honest, I thought they went the route of most 80's 1 hit wonders and disappeared into the ether with nothing left to show for it. But, apparently they released this album and I didn't think it was all that bad. Nothing to write home about, but not horrible like some of the prog rock acts on this list. 3.18/5 stars. Good tunes: "Whispers and Moans" "Chocolate Cake" "Italian Plastic"
so generic to me. just zoned out through it. sorry!! this house was too crowded!
A bit generic. Folksy pop.
Blind album, know the artist thanks to their hit. Decent listen, diverged from what I thought the band would sound like based on the hit but also a bit of the same.
Great songwriting, performance. Nice production. Medium/high corniness factor; very 90s.
Thoughts before listening: I know Crowded House gets a lot of praise, but I only know their hits. Said hits were mostly from the 80s I believe, so it is surprising to see one of their 90s albums on this list. Even the cover is not ringing a bell for me. I've seen this a few other times on this list where later albums from 80s hitmakers are included, which feels like editor bias toward their personal favorites as opposed to truly picking the 1,001 best recordings of all time. Review: This is pretty dull if I am being honest. Its fine from a pop rock perspective, but there is not much really drawing me in. After reading the write ups on the album I do see where it gets very high praise outside of this project. Apparently considered a top 5 Australian album of all time..at least in one book. Interestingly enough my favorite songs aren't the hits or the ones highlighted on AllMusic...I like "Tall Trees" and "Fame Is" the best. Anyway, I will give this 3-stars, but I am teetering on 2. I will say however that this album started to open up a little for me the more I listened. What was at first just background music started to draw me in a bit more. There are definitely some nice melodies on this album, even in the slower tracks that did not immediately grab my attention. Still though, 3-stars.
For some reason, I thought Crowded House was a rap group. I was wrong. I even know three songs off this album. It’s the kind of radio friendly soft rock that I hear every day. Nothing bad about it at all, but also tends to find a Aug corner in the background, rather than getting the listener fully invested. This album is fine.
Zu den bekanntesten Titeln des Albums zählen "Weather with You", "Fall at Your Feet", "It's Only Natural", "Four Seasons in One Day" und "Chocolate Cake".
Listens: 3 Standout tracks: Four Seasons In One Day, There Goes God, Chocolate Cake Nothing particularly remarkable about this album. I like the album cover. Halloween pumpkin vibes (even though it's a Woodman... Whatever the relevance of that is...) I don't like or dislike it after a full listen. Maybe subsequent listens will evoke something.
2.5
Pretty cool
Better than I expected
definrely need a relisten, only one listen. yesterday was chaotic. But i really liked this
Pop meio psicodélico da Nova Zelândia. Passou meio batido por mim. Nada chamou muita atenção.
OK, some absolutely amazing songs but some dross too
Easy to listen to and kinda catchy, but I think some of the songs would be better if they played with more passion/energy. Four Seasons In One Day was probably my favorite, maybe because it's a slower song that doesn't rely on a high energy performance.
Better than I expected
I honestly don't remember much of this album. I know I listened to it, but it was apparently utterly forgettable. I guess that means it wasn't bad enough or good enough to leave an impact. 3/5?
Mostly inoffensive soft rock so far... weather with you stands out for a reason it's good i like it. Four seasons in one day... feel like they could have gone bigger on the production and it might have been something special.. as is it feels like a lacklustre beatles track. Maybe that applies to a lot of this album actually. There's the odd standout I dont dislike it - there goes god is fun and fame is has a fountains of wayne vibe? -but idk as an album I'm not that interested. Not sure what it's trying to do. Why did they go nuts at the end where was that energy for the last 48 minutes
This album was pretty solid - their hits were good. Back half of the album got snoozy.
ok
Really strong melodies on this one, that sits somewhere between soft rock and orchestral psychedelia. There’s not much beyond that that’s all too attention grabbing, but it’s a very pleasant listen overall. The lyricism is a bit all over the place, often oscillating between silly and sincere, but this just adds to the charm. Listened to: walking through manhattan. Favorite tracks: Four Seasons in One Day, Fame Is, Chocolate Cake
This album is OK. The one song I got into is "Four Seasons In One Day" - it sounds like the Beatles.
I liked Weather With You, but the rest of the album had too much filler; no need to be 48 minutes long.
an auditory kaleidoscope. a fun album.
When this album came up, I didn't recognize the band at all. - Fall At Your Feet is a favourite song of mine, but I know it as a cover...not realizing that it was a cover! So this song will definitely be getting added to my play lists. - I like the vibe of this band, and will likely listen to them again and check out more of their albums.
I thought this was going to be a 4, but I'm opting for a 3. The second half of the album is a bit to boring for me. That being said, I do like the band and the sound, just probably not for a whole album's worth of material.
Some solid 90s vibes here
There's nothing particularly bad about this album; but there's nothing particularly good about it either.
Generic pop rock. It’s fine, I guess.
Pretty decent album. Easy to listen to while doing other things
It was ok
Also spotify action und direkt ine. Gmi gma gmüetlich sowit. Und denn everywhere you go, you always take the weather with you. 1 classic, 1 banger song. Daher kenn ich sie. Richtig guete Track. S ganze Album isch gmüetlich, aber denkes 1 banger schaffts doch nöd direkt uf nes 4i z lupfe. aber gechillt. 3 fröhlichi grüess ah euch 3 süesse Lil'neduzen out
wow – was für es average album! han gad d‘definition vomene 3-sterne album googlet und das holzgsicht hed mi direkt ahglachet weather with you isch en banger tho, de rest nüt wo d‘ohre beileidiget aber meh halt ebe wie gseid au nöd
I think when this was current I probably would have rated it a 4, but it's only a 3 to me today. A few classics. And a sound that is so familiar. But it's not an album I'm going to reach for to listen again. I'm probably being too generous, tbh.
Another band I've never heard of, so no preconceived ideas about it. It's okay, unobtrusive background music.
Lot of bangers, still a little above average
This is one that was okay but nothing really stood out.
Other than a very jaunty song about Chocolate Cake and the hilarious lyric "There goes God in his sexy pants and his sausage dog" there is nothing to see here. It's very Toad the Wet Sprocket kind of meh 90s alt rock. Not unpleasant but nothing to really get excited about.
This is an incredibly well made, and incredibly generic album. Nothing here is bad. Nothing is memorable either tho.
What if Crosby Stills Nash and Young had grown up in AUS? You would get this very pleasant album. I love artists that are huge in one country. Something sort of amazing about the power of music AND YET - can't travel over seas.
Not really any memorable songs but definitely is a vibe I feel like it needs more grit and energy
Easy listen, nothing to write home about
Everywhere you goooo
This was probably all the rage with college radio. fun album but nothing too memorable.
Meh.
The singles are pretty great. The rest is the filleriest of filler
This was fine. I'm sure it was good at the time, but it feels a bit dated now and doesn't blow me away. 3.0
I've seen the album before. But I never listened to it all the way through. I knew the hit Weather With You, which I liked. But I would have assigned it to a completely different group. I learned something in that respect. Beyond that, the album was remarkably unremarkable. 3/5
The harmonies are great. I only know a couple songs by name but over all not familiar with this album. Good musicians and production but nothing mind blowing. It's a well done recording but I don't feel like I missed anything by not hearing before. The vocal harmonies are the highlight of this album for me but Finn brothers voices are sometimes a little too nasally.
This was delightful until ‘All I Ask’. I did not enjoy that song, and then couldn’t get back that loving feeling for the rest of the album.
Crowded House sounds fantastic. Vocally, the harmonies are beautiful; melodies, too. Very pleasant. Musically, it's solid — not overly ambitious, but clearly pro. And I suspect the compositions are just as good. But somehow, the smooth professionalism of the performances and recording strips away any depth to the songs. They sound really nice, but nothing remains other than I'll probably recognize the band by their sound the next time I hear them. But was it this song, or another...? I don't know that I'd be able to tell. A 3-star of the highest order.
I was a bit dismissive of this one at first. It sounded nice, but it lacked depth, maybe? But it grew on me as it played. The lyrics were often pretty interesting. By the end I was rather enjoying myself.
This sure was fun.
Better than expected.
