Reviews (page 7 of 8)
meh
I got a little excited when I saw Crowded House as I thought I remember quite a few songs from the early MTV days. Then I heard nothing what I thought I remembered. Maybe it was Split Enz? Or maybe this album just had nothing worthy of MTV? Hell, I don't know. I just know this album wasn't very good and generated zero excitement. Pretty generic with minimal effort and energy. Good god, I'm wondering if I really did like this back in the day. Even for background music, was just OK. 2
2 The name Crowded House sounded really familiar to me, but I couldn’t seem to place a song by them - and after listening to this album, I can see why. Holy cow, is this music plain. Like, I don’t think I could come up with safer-sounding radio rock music if I tried. It’s certainly far from the most offensive sounding thing I’ve heard on this list, but man, was I bored. And wtf are some of these lyrics? “I saw Elvis Presley walk out of a Seven Eleven And a woman gave birth to a baby and then bowled 257 The excess of fat on your American bones Will cushion the impact as you sink like a stone” Part of me wants to give points for creativity, but at the same time, it’s also just kind of nonsense. I’m not really sure what they were trying to say on any given song here, if anything at all. Not that I was really expecting an album entitled Woodface to impart any kind of profound or lasting message, but I just don’t think there’s much substance in either the music or lyrics. Honestly, my favorite moment was the hidden track, I’m Still Here - it’s like the one time these guys actually woke up and put some energy into their music, and it’s the very last minute of the album. From a technical perspective, I think the album is fine, but from a musical one, I just don’t find it interesting - can’t imagine your house is going to be too crowded if you put this on. Or, judging by the hundreds of millions of Spotify plays, maybe it will, what do I know?
Meh
I don't love this album honestly just sounds like some pretty boring and uninspired pop rock. Weather with You is pretty good tho. 5/10 Favourite: Weather With You Least Favourite: All I Ask
Just found it quite a dull listen
Nothing really offensive, just not really for me. At times the songs phased into one. The most dramatic thing was the scream mid-way through the last song.
A mid album in my opinion, don't know how this made the list. 4/10
It's pretty generic adult contemporary.
Utterly forgettable for an entry into a genre I really enjoy. 2.5/5
I can imagine the author of 1001 Albums realizing he had omitted Crowded House, looking at the discography, and intentionally picking the least compelling of the four albums people actually care about, just to be contrarian.
Chocolate Cake - 2/5 It's Only Natural - 3/5 Fall at Your Feet - 3/5 Tall Trees - 4/5 Weather With You - 3/5 Whispers and Moans - 4/5 Four Seasons in One Day - 3/5 There Goes God - 3/5 Fame Is - 2/5 All I Ask - 2/5 As Sure as I Am - 2/5 Italian Plastic - 2/5 She Goes On - 2/5 How Will You Go - 4/5 Average score: 2.8/5 (rounding down) yaaaaaaawn i gotta agree with most of the other reviews, this is offensively boring. so much so that i don't even want to round this up to a 3
This one did not do it for me. Didn't really feel like it was pushing any boundaries on the one hand, nor did I feel like it really resonated as pop music on the other. Felt a bit like a 90s Coldplay.
This is not edgy music. In fact it's completely edgeless. It's like a musical sphere. Sure, the singles are decent radio fodder, but there's nothing else on here I needed to hear before I die.
Crowded House — always great for a coffee shop scene in a Hollywood movie. When I first heard them, I couldn't get past the clean production and tidy vocal harmonies. Maybe a bit too much like Salinger's Holden in his prime, I'd write them off as phonies or packaged fakes — and never bother to unwrap the apparent gifts to look any deeper. While I require music that's darker and edgier, there's a kind of middlebrow magic to this record as a whole, a balance of whimsy and substance rooted in a pop tradition where rebellion and meaning hides in plain sight.
Honestly just fine. But I don't really enjoy this style of music, maybe when I'm older.
Tolerable
It was OK. All of the songs sound like they could’ve been in a Farrelly brother's movie.
There are some songs that sound like a Beatles cover band wanted to write songs in that style, but suitable for the 90s audience. There's a strong early 90s vibe with the music. Nothing grabs me
Inoffensive in the worst way
I thought this album started out fairly strong, but pretty quickly fell off into something more bland and boring. It's also a bit long, with 14 (and a half songs) running 48+ minutes. It never really got back to being as good as it began, but stayed generally uninteresting. A lot of the songs felt the same, had similar themes, or sounded alike. The only song that really stood out as different was the last "hidden" track, which lasted barely a minute. While I can appreciate consistency for an album, that made it all blend together into something not very memorable. By the time it ended, I'd forgotten a number of the songs that had just played. I'm not sure I'll remember the rest in a few days. I wouldn't say it's bad, but it's really no better than fine to me. I probably would've appreciated a few of the tracks more if I heard them on their own. As it is, I don't see myself coming back to this one. Overall: 2.5/5
The Finn brothers' songwriting here lacks the spark or magic of their previous efforts in Split Enz. Most everything here is oh-so-pleasant (not a good quality for a rock record) with the exception of "Fame Is" which manages to bust through the blandness. Mitchell Froom's hyper-crystalline production also robs the songs (even the few tougher-sounding ones) of any kind of punch. The chimey guitars on this record come across as toothless. (Dude also has no idea how to properly mix the drum parts - does the snare *really* need to be louder than the singer?)
poppiges aus den 90ern, und zu schnulzig um lange hinzuhören - please, take these songs with you ..
Rock Pop
Soft early 99’s
Generic pop rock, mate. Inoffensive at best. Leave this one to the Australians, I'll stick to Don't Dream It's Over. Please note the attempted jumpscare hidden track at the tail end of this album (4/10, 2/5 on this scale)
It's not that the songs were bad... They were just kinda boring and sounded the same
A bit entertaining. Didn't really enjoy it.
Generische Radio musik.
Was just ok, definite retro 90s vibe coming through
Not bad but boring. Just uninterested in what was being brought to the ears.
Fine
Maybe I'm just projecting the Finn brothers' history in Split Enz onto this music, but between the varied keyboard sounds, moderately ambitious song textures and sardonic Costello-like lyrics, it's clear that these guys have their roots in idiosyncratic, colourful pop music. On here, however, the songs have been neutered and seemingly designed for mass appeal enough to lose almost all semblance to creativity, real passion and even personality, instead reaching only mass tolerance.
Heard the weather song before and wasn’t a fan. This was the full experience of that initial reaction
Replacement level rock. Fine but boring. Probably could be three stars based on listenability but I found the slower ballads to be a real slog so I’m knocking it down to two.
How I reacted when I heard the lyric "There goes god... in his sexy pants and his sausage dog" perfectly encapsulates my reaction to this album. "Huh?"
This had me wondering about the origin of the band's name. What I settled on, was that this is good music to play when it's time to empty a crowded house. I was not engaged, nor impressed. This was dull.
Very 90s sound. Not really my thing. Easy listening but it felt so...dated. Like a worse version of REM. Lyrics were forced and weak. Music was mediocre. Not offensive, just very very forgettable.
This is a pretty unremarkable album. At times I thought it sounded vaguely Squeeze-like, at others I thought it sounded a bit like late period AOR Fleetwood Mac (maybe unsurprising since Neil Finn joined Fleetwood Mac for a time). Basically I have no pressing wish to hear this album again.
sadly so many of these songs fell flat for me. only enjoyed four seasons in one day and as sure as i am.
Not a fan of this. It's too soft and corny. They talk about weather a lot.
I really gotta hear this before I die?
Fairly generic stuff. Didn’t actively hate it but I was never excited to be listening. 2.5/5
Aggressively pedestrian.
Weird how tinny elements of 80s production mixes with an almost 90s alt earnestness in this not very good album.
Dad- 9 Mom- 6.5 Mike- 3.5 Lori- 3.5 Michael- 5 Miles- NA Cole- NA Avg- 5.5
Why is this on here?
DOS!
I found this uninteresting and one-note; it seems to be a pattern in a lot of jangle pop from this time. It's solid in the background, but when you try to dive into the lyrics or music here, you're left with something so painfully run-of-the-mill. Songs like 'It's Only Natural', 'Fall At Your Feet', 'Four Seasons in One Day, and 'There Goes God' are fine enough, but I'd say everything else here did nothing for me.
Kids today don't realize this was the only listenable CD your new age hippie aunt had, the rest were like Enya and shit like Star Noises Vol. 4: Sounds of Saturn.
Boring. Never really liked this band. 2.5
I'm no Crowded House aficionado, but this isn't one of the albums that stands out to me. I grew up in the 80s listening to top 40 and songs like Better Be Home soon, Don't Dream its Over and Something So Strong. There are the wholesome voices, the harmonizing, the simple slow guitar rhythms, but lacks personality outside of 'this is 80's college rock.' Nothing to see here ... move along now.
Blah. Bland. Vanilla.
I thought this was going to be pretty inoffensive but something about the lyrics and the songs irritated me. Weather With You and Fall At Your Feet are good though.
Listenable.
This reminds me of something, but I can't think of what. That's funny, because it seems otherwise totally unremarkable.
I remember sort of liking the '80s hits I'd heard from this band, but I didn't know anything past that. Still pretty solid pop rock at first. It's not something I expected to enjoy, but I was. Then it just FELL OFF with All I Ask and never found its way back. The whole back half was just terrible. It was like a different band.
Can I say that they do a good job of not offending anyone? Cheery, light, inoffensive gutsless? I thought Chocolate Cake's varied taking the piss would promise some edgy guitar or slashing lyrics, but I guess not. After a minute I just started forwarding. Blah.
I knew from the chocolate cake song that this would be rough. Generic pop music that you'd expect to hear on a TV sitcom.
Okay, I'll bite. Why is this on the list? Did the author owe the band money? This is so bland and forgettable. What interesting album doesn't appear on the list because this got a spot? I almost gave it a 1*, but it isn't offensive or anything. I thought about it, though.
Saai, vond het allemaal hetzelfde
Unfortunately found this pretty mediocre
Didn't really dig it.
Why? So so bland
No
I was interested initially but not fully my thing.
This was fine.
Real boring couldnt get into it, really bland music.
Someone on here said that it sounds like Gilmore Girls music and I have to agree with that. I knew one song of the album, which was more than I thought, and I enjoyed myself enough listening to it, but I don't think it's one of the 1001 best albums ever
"chocolate cake" is one of the worst songs i've ever heard. and they made it the opening track and a single. unfortunately the rest isn't much better.
not good enough to be this slow.
Had not heard this album before, and am only familiar with a couple of their hits. It's clear they're a talented bunch that groove together well, but the sound comes off really dated to me and I didn't find any of the tracks to be stand-outs. I can tell it's a well constructed album, but not my cup of tea. Might've dug it more when it came out though
Don't understand how this is on the list. It reeks of desperate attempts to reclaim their earlier glory. The only impressive thing here is their perseverance in sticking to the 80s formula in the same year Nirvana's Nevermind blew it all up.
Somewhere between fine and meh for me.
Really didn't like this on first listen, second listen it was more digestible, but still don't understand why this album was included?
I don't recognize a single song off of this one. Which is kind of fun. I suppose this just went under the radar in the US. Music-wise it's alright. Nice enough.
Agree with a lot of other reviews: forgettable
I think there are some big fans of Crowded House, but this album is the pits. I think they are basically borrowing from every band in the 70s and taking all energy out of it.
It was fine. Bog standard MOR stuff. Fall At Your Feet remains a good song but I was a little disappointed with ..Weather...
Couldn’t tell you a single thing about what I just listened to. It was an album that happened, and it just kind of droned on in the background while I was making and eating breakfast.
Warm and cosy but all a bit bland sorry!
not as bad as i thought it was going to be, but would never listen to this. 2.5/5
Not a fan of this one. Woodface is very well produced and recorded, but by the end it feels too clean and formulaic. This band did not seem to like taking chances, and they didn’t have any soul or emotion either. It’s a shame, because the songs a performed very well, but it just lacks a certain rawness that I desire in rock music. This ends up being more pop than rock.
Nice pop music, nothing mind-blowing. ‘Weather with you’ very catchy. I remember it now. 3 for the catchy song, 2 for the rest.
Really not vibing with this. Not great 90's rock. Fall at Your Feet in particular sucks. Tall Trees sounds like Temu REM. This has a song I start to like and then goes right into another song I don't like. Much too generic 90's rock for me. Meh.
As is probably the case with most people, the only Crowded House song I know is "Don't Dream It's Over." I think that's a fantastic song, but with such a small sample size, I have no idea what to expect from this album. I have soft spot for music from the late eighties and early nineties, so I'm hoping that I'll really love this, so let's jump in! Well, at least I still have "Don't Dream It's Over." I thought this album was pretty dull. Parts of it did tap into the nostalgia I have for nineties pop rock, but it was only surface level. Overall, I didn't find anything particularly remarkable about Woodface. This album sounds like something that would have played on an adult contemporary radio station in the states when it came out. But despite some good vocals, and a really good song in "Fall At Your Feet," this album just doesn't have much to offer up, especially at a time when music like this was really plentiful. In my opinion, albums like this should be driven by catchy hooks and melodies, but I didn't find any of that on this album. The music and songwriting here aren't bad, but Crowded House didn't manage to capture my attention here.
Tedious. Tiresome. Bland.
it was ok, i didnt finish it tho
Yikes - I had not expected this. I like Weather With You, so I thought that I would also enjoy the rest of the album. But no. Not at all
Yeah this album was just so.....eh. Bit too long as well, nothing really jumped out to me on this record. I almost have nothing to say because all of it was just so forgettable
2.5
Has some good moments, but it's Steely Dan but not as good. C
Lille 2er
Meh. Really didn't like it. Sounded like the Smithereens or some other discount box late 80s indypop.
"Siri, crea el álbum de rock más genérico posible para esta lista, por favor"
That typical rock indie sound. I don't know what makes this distinct from others in this genre, but not awful. Something to put on in the background. Highlights: Fall At Your Feet
Pretty mediocre pop rock Standout songs: Whispers and Moans As Sure as I am
FAVO: Fall at your feet, Weather with you
This is #day56 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... here's to some generic early '90s pop-rock dragging on some '80s flair. Discerning one song from another can be rather daunting on this album. Nothing too terrible about it (although some lyrics are pretty darn corny), but again, I don't get the value of ending up on the list of albums you must hear before you die. A case in point when you absolutely don't have to. Should I still be hoping for a solid entry soon? I keep clinging to the thought that this list has loads of crap. I'm not giving up, though. Let it be a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day57.
It's an unimpassioned 2.75 star.
It feels like any song could fit the credits outro of any generic movie played in the morning on any tv channel. Very monotone.
Good music but not really my taste.
Jesus. Perfectly adequate. Exceptionally boring. Completely forgettable.
Quite generic and pretty bland pop-rock music. I liked Weather with you and this is the only song I recognise from this album but the rest are samey and not too exciting.
The 90s were weird, where in order to be "daring" and "different" in a post Smells Like Teen Spirit world, you had to copy the sound of a bunch of 60s and 70s soft rock groups in order to stick out. Throw in some XTC for good measure, and you get Crowded House's Woodface. Crowded House was a band I thought I'd like more, as I quite enjoy their hits, but this album is a bit of a bore, and while often vaguely enjoyable in its America-esque hooks, it only brings in to question for me why this is considered somewhat of an essential album, while anything by those infamous soft rock groups is considered weak and inessential. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth that all this album had to do to stand out was copy and paste decades old sounds, but I suppose that's how art has always been. Still, not impressive enough to be considered even just "okay" in my book.
Very dated sound that wasn’t appealing to me. 2.5/5
:/
Boring early 90s alt pop rock
There goes God with his sexy pants and his sausage dog. Not bad, but a little boring. I would have preferred if they leaned into their accents more. Instead, it just sounds like generic soft rock. I'm still here. I won't go away.
Just bland. Wasn't the worst thing we've listened to.
¿Pudo inspirar a alguien? Probablemente ¿A alguien importante?
2.5? Nothing spectacular about this
Maybe one of the last new wave albums to be released of it's heyday? Don't Dream it's Over is my go to karoake so I was interested to actually listen to an album by these guys. A little jangly, good pop appeal. This album also doesn't take any real swings. Some good tracks though (All I Ask, Weather With You, Fame Is). The rest feels not bad but not very memorable.
Fall At Your Feet // All I Ask //
Couldn’t find it.
A 90’s album painfully stuck in a sound from the 80’s.
Bored Yer Da’s fav
2/5 - This did not evoke a single emotion out of me. I used to like weather with you, but now I know it’s not by an 80s yacht rock band, I like it less. The end of how will you go / I’m still here is the only time I thought they were feeling the music, but even that was for 10 seconds at the end.
this was ok, recognised the huge hits in the first half of the album and then it's more than punched itself out by the end of the second third - overall easy to listen to but not pushing any limits
Four Season In One Day.
Not their best album.
If this album were a drink, it would be non alcoholic beer.
A few good songs in the first half. Faded away in the second half.
So this is about it for crowded house and hits. Most of these songs are still on some radio stations regular rotation in my country, I'm sick of it. I'm sick of these two brothers who can't keep a band together. 3/10 it might be good but I hate it.
Didn't dislike, but there's not much here
Insanely boring. Like someone took the worst parts of REM and made a compilation of it. Should be nowhere near this list.
This is the epitome of inoffensive music, the sort of music played for people who don't really like music at events where music is required. I can imagine there's a lot of wedding parties where this gets played. I noticed another reviewer calling out the similarity between this and the music in Spyro. Once my mind had been drawn attention to that fact, it stuck with me throughout the entire album, nudging it up from a snooze fest 1 star, to a tedious and beige 2 star effort.
Easy listening but doesn't do anything for me.
I didn't find this one very notable. Nothing really jumped out as good or bad. I like the cover though Will I listen to again: 2%
I can’t say I’m disappointed because I hate Don’t Dream It’s Over and I don’t hate this. I also don’t like it and I’m not sure why I needed to hear this. 2 feels harsh and 3 feels too high. I’m going to round down from 2.4 to a 2.
Cet album m’a terriblement ennuyée
Not great. It's okay as a background sound.
Pop rock lullabies for adults.
Something interesting about the sound of the singers voice, a little heavy and sad, which I like, and a kind of muted sound in the tone of the music... But it feels and sounds like POP music to me, blehh 2 stars
its just fine really. i dont feel anything for it but i dont hate it.
I don't hate this.
Rating: 5/10 Meh.
eh...
It's 2024 and all mediocre music sounds like AI to me. I had to check the release date to confirm that this was made by people.
Kinda just alright to me, forgettable
Potential but didn't get near it
No es mi estilo
Meh
*yawn* I fail to see what is original, or outstanding. Forgettable.
Meh
Fun
Crowded House never grabbed my attention. I quite liked one or two of their hits but never raved about them at all. Listening to the album through it appealed to me in that it was melodic but that was all. All the tracks merged into one another in one boring sound that never seemed to go anywhere as if too scared to deviate from the tried and tested formula used to gain the hits. Sleepily I arose from my slumber to turn the record off before it ended.
Didn’t mind Crowded House in the 80s. But this album was boring and I don’t think I’ll find myself going back to it at all.
Not sure why this CH album was so heralded...seems like filler music. Wasn't bad, but certainly didn't strike me as something I would have ever considered buying at the time of release. 2/5
Not for me
I love their song “don’t dream it’s over” so I expected to like this album. It was nothing like that song and I hated it
It was OK.
Didn’t feel like the band cared, it was such a boring album.
rock lento e noioso
Bluey's parents grew close over this album when they dated.
ok. Besides Weather with you and fall at your feet, i felt it was just ok.
While I think Australian music is greatly under represented here, I always found Crowded House's music rather mundane.
not bad
I don't know how to review this other than saying that every song sounded like an 80s/90s sitcom tv theme song.
I can’t imagine your house would ever be crowded again if you made a habit of spinning this snoozer.
Meh.
Everything about this album is right down the middle. The singing is fine, not great. The instrumentals aren't anything to write home about, but they aren't bad or detrimental at all. Overall, the album isn't bad at all, but it's really not good either. Just a whole big pile of meh. The fact that I can't really pick a favorite track because none of them stand out at all is pretty much a perfect encapsulation of my point
Nothing special really
So they had a really great hit song, released another album, then this one. An 80s band trying to stay relevant in the early 90s. Why is this on the list? Did anyone listen to this album?
Not bad. Can't really point out any issues but I can't really see myself going back to this
Slightly boring soft rock album to be honest
Ehhhhh
It is ok but is also totally forgettable. Not much to get excited about. Everything seems muted and broken down to basics.
Meio chato
Kind of remind me of Hanson. It's not my least favorite, but there's a lot of stuff I'd rather listen to.
Dares to ask the question, what if The Cranberries were mid?
This one didn't really impress me much, but it was easy listening.
Another band that hasn't got a sound of their own, each song sounds like they're taking turns knocking off random mediocre 90's alt-rock bands. From REM to U2, no one is safe. 2 parrots out of 5 🦜🦜
2-3
It's not what I remembered? It has some catchy well designed songs, but lyrically it falls short. It has catchy lyrics and songs but has a stagnant life about it.
Uninteresting, uninspiring, unexciting, underwhelming, and completely unnecessary. None of this album sparks anything within me. It is completely forgettable, but not altogether unbearable. I hope not to listen to it again, but I could if I had to. 2/5
There was a ton of construction going on right outside my window when I listened to this so maybe it is not a fair listen but oh well. Rather bold of them to incorporate the jackhammer and drill noises for a soft rock record. 4/10
2.75
Some nice hooks here and there but not enought o make me want to return to this in this lifetime.
Yet another boring pop rock album...
Only one song of note, otherwise generic
a little boring although i did enjoy a couple songs
3/14
Boring. It's listenable, it's inoffensive, it's boring. It's like a lost Beatles record from an alternate universe where the Beatles weren't fun. Was the New Zealand music scene just really boring in the early 90s? Meh.
2,5. frekar leiðinlegt en fallegar melódíur.
Mediocrity at its best
If music fails to evoke ANY emotion whatsoever, I think that's probably the worst case scenario. You could put this on in any store where suburban moms shop and it'd be the perfect soundtrack. Unoffensive, easy to ignore and completely boring. No, thanks.
Eh. It’s fine. It’s not at all unique, though, and I see no reason for inclusion. Perfectly serviceable, but you don’t really have to listen to it ever.
nice to see an album from an NZ band, but I've heard most of the tracks too many times on radio and such to enjoy this. I was surprised by how dark some of the lyrics were
Aika kädenlämpöiseksi jää! Olis kaivannut paljon enemmän särmää tai jotain 2/5
Hmh, aika kädenlämpöiseksi jäi. Vaikea tajuta, mitä arvoa tuo listalle, vaikka olihan tuossa pari ihan kivaa biisiä.
Listalle tyypillinen kädenlämpöiseksi jäävä rock-levy. Huomaa mikä genre on dominoinut musakritiikkiä viime vuosisadalla. 2/5
It's good music and pleasant to listen to. But most of it is very generic and sounds pretty listless. I guess the context of when you listen to this matters.
i dreamt it was over
I like their hit "Don't Dream It's Over" and always wanted to give them a listen but never did till now. Major let down. Maybe I will try another album in another 30 years.
A banal, vapid 80s LP masquerading under the more reserved, authentic instrumentals of the early 90s. The musicianship is serviceable, but the melodies drag on and underwhelm at best. Add in truly god-awful songwriting and this was one poor performance away from being a 0.5 star album in my book. T
one good song
I didn’t find this all that interesting. In places, I forgot I was listening to it.
Not very interesting at all. I’m not kidding I literally remember almost nothing from this album. No melodies, rhythms, lyrics nothing. Makes for decent background music I guess.
Mwah best wel saai
Prefs : Chocolate Cake, Weather With You, There Goes God, Fame Is Moins pref : Four Seasons in One Day
Harmless enough, but slightly hum drum. Charming songs wouldn't turn the radio off if they came on, but wouldn't add it to my collection.
This was fine. A little boring, but nothing egregious.
A bit lame really
Limp like three week old lettuce. Good sing along tracks, though.
Just not for me.
this is not an essential album. why are so many the new wave/alt albums on this list so boring
Other songs aren’t as good as Weather With You
mostly forgettable indie pop 2.5
wow! a bland 90s albums with dudes whose lyrics are so blandly mysoginist and sexual it could knock over a truck. you like O A R? this is your shit. you like soul collective? this your jam? you like hootie? hop on board? shite.
Best Song: Fall At Your Feet. I must have heard this in some sitcom or romcom... It has that hint of familiarity that makes it more enjoyable. Worst Song: Whispers and Moans. That falsetto is not nearly as sexy as I think the singer intends. Overall: Utterly forgettable pop rock. Also, some absolute childish album art. Nothing to note here.
Ranged from mildly interesting to inoffensive to boring
Very early 90’s, felt like it was made for the first cd player in a ford escort
valla bilmiyorum biraz iyi gibiydi ama çok da beğenmedim ama tekrar dinlemem lazım ona göre karar vercem bi tane şarkı vardı all of you mu ne diye aşırı iyiydi o ama
Lame
Woodsound
I'm so annoyed. This is not for me at all. I actually like music so this album was a chore to get through. Everything about it is absolutely "mid" except for the lyrics which are awful. Like Squeeze awful. Like Chicago awful. Note to self: when you need to reset your rating gauge, consider returning to this album as it is the ultimate two star clunker.
KUUNNELLA ENNEN KU KUPSAHTAA!??? MIKSI VITUSSA==no joo on tää vähän parempi kun yleensä mutta perkeele...ei vieläkään kulttia vastaan.....anglomaanista keskivertokakkaa sen sijaan pursuaa...no pukkaa ehkä kolmoseen kuunnellaas vielä vikat biisit...ok ei pukkaa... four seasons in one day

Hmm, well that was certainly an album. Very little that I liked about this. Maybe an occasional hook, but overall just kind of a snooze fest.
Not memorable for me
did not like it i will not elaborate
Very boring. No thanks.
Crowded house - woodface (1991) Notes - Pop rock album from the band crowded house - their song don’t dream its over - The singer’s brother joined the band in order to bring some new creative energy, which ended up pushing this album in a more upbeat direction Fav - Tall trees - Cool melody and guitar parts, kind of smiths-y Least fav - Chocolate cake - A bit too goofy for me, also doesn’t really set the tone of the album Nothing from this album really stuck for me, not mad at it but I didn’t love it - 2/5
There goes god
Pleasant rock that floated by but felt like it had very little emotion. I think I enjoyed Tall Trees the most. Reminded me of a lot of other alternative music from the era that I can enjoy listening to but not really find impactful, unique or worth visiting a bunch of times.
It wasn’t bad, but not something I care to go back to and listen again
Shiny surface, but nothing to find underneath it for me.
Beetje braafjes
Not my taste
Meh.
light pop rock. not bad not great.
Litt kult at eg fikk melding på slack om at da e sjokoladekaka i kaffesonen mens eg hørte på Chocolate cake. For øvrig totalt uinteressant album. Veldig P4-esque
I want to like this band but they are just so vanilla. Make me want to stand around in a cheap suit and snap my fingers.
Don't love the dual-lead, double vocal thing. Generally pleasant I guess, but nothing that really excited me. Just makes me wish I was listening to Squeeze.
There was one lyric about sexy pants and sausage dogs and that was all I really took in.
Never heard of this album before but i guess its a solid late 80's early 90s new wave rock type album. sort of like that guy phil collins? or whatever his name is.
Just so forgettable
This starts off quite poorly. Like Steely Dan without the intricate jazzy arrangements. Like Billy Joel struggling to get an "indie" sound right (but to what ends would he do that, really?). It's just cheesy pop, competently written and decently played, but nothing that forces you to raise your head and want to pay more attention to the proceedings. In my opinion, reviewers who compared this band to REM should have their ears (or their brains) checked. There's none of the intensity found in most 80s output from Stipe, Berry, Buck and Mills. It's very generic, nothing that deserves to be included in a list of mandatory listens. At least on first glance. After the first two tracks, things fortunately pick up a little though. There are the two undeniable hits from the record, first "Fall At Your Feet", still admittedly a little cheesy in the way the singer is here wearing his heart on his sleeve, and yet boasting a memorable and even timeless chorus. And the same goes for "Weather With You", with its catchy singalong group vocal hook and its mesmerizing jangling guitar line worming its way to your mind. In between, the more lively "Tall Trees" *does* passingly deserve those earlier REM comparisons. At this point, one may hope that *Woodface* is one of those records with a slow build, keeping its best cuts on the second side, with only a few worthwhile appetizers on the first. That sort of tracklisting is rare, but it's pleasurable when it works out on the whole... Unfortunately, 90% of what follows those three songs sets us back to that *thick* snorefest mode felt at the start of the album, with very *boring* ballads, mostly... Only worthy of notice are "Four Seasons In One Day", where Finn channels his inner Paul McCartney to give a delicate, subtly composed cut. And the lush strings of "All I Ask" color things a little at least, even if the song itself sounds like a bad parody of "third stream" vocal jazz... As for the rest, every slow track fades into the next without leaving much of an impression. The Finn brothers can be strong songwriters when they want to (see the examples above), yet one can't help feeling they were somewhat lazy when it came to the music they wrote for this record, with all those textbook chord progressions and vocal lines (lyrics are a different animal, but they can't save the day either--not with so many long moments where nothing really happens on the musical level). Curiously, a very short hidden track at the end of this record finds the band in a totally different mood, jamming and yelling together in what is obviously a live take. A messy one, admittedly, but something *alive* at last... It's as if the band suddenly realized how bland everything was before, and wished to spice things up a little at the last minute. But it's too little and too late. They can yell "I'm still here" all they want. The problem is that, as a listener, *I'm* not, and only wish to go on to the next record, hoping to find something at least relatively *exciting*. So... Next, please. Number of albums left to review or just listen to: 888 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 59 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 29 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 25 (including this one)
Have to say I was disappointed in this. I expected to like it more but found it a bit weak and wet. I knew Fall at your feet bit turns out the Boy and Bear cover is much better
2.5/5. First listen. Sounds good. Like to hear more
When the lyrics could have risen to poignant, they felt forced. Chocolate Cake is a great example of a criticism that lacks artistry. Are they the cheap Picasso fake? Not sure they are trying to be ironic, just snarky. Overall, nothing here felt like it would have been in heavy rotation in 1991 and so is surprising to be on a list in 2022. Nothing here is bad. It is mostly well done. Just not enough to be memorable.
It's fine but nothing exciting. Forgettable and nothing I'll ever have reason to go back to
Maybe i'm not in the right vibe for it, but it sounds like a very generic 90's pop rock.
I tried. It's...okay, I guess. Just didn't interest me.
Mediocre in my book.
I listened to this album today and couldn't remember a single melody today, so despite people throwing around words like "masterpiece," I'm giving this collection of early-90s sitcom themes 2 stars.
Harmless easy listening. Not outstanding for me but I appreciate the 90s vibe this early morning.
Just a bit beige. Some really nice songs in there, particularly in the first half, but the album really dragged. Had it been ten minutes shorter, might have snagged a 3, but as it is it only merits the top end of a 2. Weather With You is lovely though, and I did know Fall At Your Feet before (but only because James Blunt covered it).
95% inoffensive but bland, plus certified banger Weather With You. Fine.
Meh.
My memory told me this was better. I guess that was the earlier albums.
This sounds WAY more like an 80s album than something that came out the same year as Nevermind, Gish, and the Black Album. I'm curious what about this album makes it qualify for this list. Sounds like elevator music to me...
The album cover art is great, the music inside was adequate. 2.5/5
This didn't really change my opinion of early 90s alt/college rock. It's not really bad, it's just a time capsule; it may or may not have aged well, depending on your relationship with 90s alt and, basically, the Reality Bites soundtrack.
Lyrics are pretty silly. Music seems pretty stereotypically 90’s. Overall, enjoying it but also won’t go out of my way to listen again.
ok, ekki ég
If this was any more middle-of-the-road, it'd have cats eyes.
Good musicians. Derivative and one dimensional songs all the way through.
I admit I don't really understand the hype on this one. It sounded nice but was kind of boring.
A slow sort of album that didn't stand out to me too much. No recognized songs
Bland. Didn’t finish.
The goal seems to be to rely on the harmonies to carry the band but this just doesn't work. The fades on "Chocolate Cake" and "Weather With You" simply repeat the chorus over and over. It's like they ran out of ideas. There is some very capable harmonica playing on Chocolate Cake and There Goes God but it's lost on this album. Italian Plastic is kinda fun but it's too late. The reliance on harmonies to carry the load results in a collection of dull weenie songs.
My co-judge said there's nothing too memorable on this album and we commented simultaneously on the lame lyrics on "Everywhere you go, always take your weather with you ..." Every song sounds radio ready. They're like an AOR version of Split Enz.
This was quite boring
Not my jam at all. Thought it was awful but to be fair its a well balanced album
Could be on any 90s comedy or teen soundtrack. Not my favorite
What a pleasant little album I couldn't give two squirts of piss about! Clunky melodies sung in a way that I'm convinced the singer is thinking, "Damn... almost, but not quite" and cringing.
Meeeeeeeeeeeeh.....
Esta madera está muy gris.
zzzí lo escuché
Basically harmless. Bland, but at a level where I'd turn them off if I had the ability within reach, but probably wouldn't bother if I had to get up to do so.
very meh.
Weird. They really like the weather lol
I've already had this one near the beginning, not listening again. Well written but pretty dull standard songs on the whole
kind of a boring uneventful listen. Finely crafted pop music but nothing stands out or excites. 2.5 stars
ehh
I didn't know for this album but "Weather with you" I listened it to the radio in his time.
eh... not that interesting imo 2
How did this make it into the list?!
Crap.
This pop rock/alternative rock album from Crowded House was their third album. I had never heard of this Australian band before and it makes sense, because their albums never performed well in the US. However, this album charted pretty high in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and other European countries. The music was well produced and had an upbeat/optimistic tone, but not my type of music.
Softrock..
Gillar hur dem gjorde narr av jänkare i första låten. Lite för poppigt för mig? Bra refräng i tredje låten. Bästa hittils Låtarna är väldigt likt uppbyggda? Speciellt refrängerna Låt 7 bra, nästan som låt tre
bakgrundsmusik
I liked some of it, but it's not something I'll ever listen to again
This is not for me.
It’s like when you’re in a Canadian bar and everyone starts singing every word of a song you’ve never heard before. That’s how I felt about “Weather With You” the most played song on this album.
2.5. This is #3 on “100 Best Australian Albums.” I was excited for this and expected to like it more.
Hot garbage.
Didn’t click for me. Dated production, some songs grate. Saved by a few decent tracks.
Imaju taj neki ljetni zvuk u nekim dijelovima. Weather With You, Italian Plastic, Fall at your Feet - dobričke pjesmičke.
