Reviews (page 6 of 7)

Started off recently but quickly lost interest, not horrible just a bit boring

A middling EDM effort from the 80’s. Just another example of how this 1001 albums list is more about pushing mediocre British musicians and their albums, than actually showcasing albums you must hear before you die. This album was so uninteresting that I tuned out about 2 songs in and nothing brought my attention back until I realized things went silent.

I thought this 808 was sounding like a massive Error 404, but I managed to catch a little groove on 808080808. 2.02/5

I’m sure I heard this in my techno club phase while attempting to be cool. But I forget. Unfortunately listening to it this many years later proved two things: I’m still not cool, and it still is mostly forgettable.

Background music. Not terrible I guess but it’s more of something that if you put on and don’t notice it then it’s doing its job. I can’t imagine rating any of these albums above a 2. This is a 1.5

I thought this would be a 1 banger when I started but then I just pretended I was in The Matrix and it improved the experience. 2.5/5

It’s a soundtrack to a Super Nintendo game. 1.75

Uninspired 90s electronica.

This felt like I was sitting through a 40 minute unskippable Grand Theft Auto menu cutscene. Some of the songs were upbeat and fun, but for the most part this was boring.

To me, just a bunch of noises

Acid House is a bit like heroin. I’ve seen what it does to people, so I’d rather not get too involved.

Fun fact: the longer I listen to Electronica, the angrier I get. 1 song is fine, 2 is not bad, 3 and 4 I forget and by 5 WHY AM I STILL LISTENING?

I can see this being “ground breaking” in the late 80s but context can only get you so far in personal enjoyment. It sounds to me like disney xd credit songs

I did not use a private spotify session for this one. I need more hair gel, la looks perhaps, a bright blue track suit, sun glasses and a massive boom box. It's called 90 but firmly planted in 80's. I don't like EDM, I don't much care for 80's music, so this wasn't for me.

Nein. Nicht mein Ding.

Why the hell is there so much electronica on here? Another snoozefest of the same shit repeating in 4-5 minute intervals.

This aged really badly; it sounds so dated now. It's saved from a one star review by Pacific 202, which is a fair bit better than the rest (though maybe that's just because I remember it as a single back when this was released).

Not great, I imagine on acid its better.

Generic 80s background music that cannot possibly be enjoyed. If I knew someone that actually liked this, I would have to punch them in the face.

One stone cold classic, 7 other noisy wordless 'tracks'

An album fully instrumental with repetitive sounds/instrumental runs **

Decent electronic music, not bad background music for working. Probably hits different in a club setting lol

I can see how it would have been pretty innovative for the time. Magical Dream was the standout song.

Favourite songs: Donkey Doctor Least favourite songs: The Fat Shadow.... Plus the rest of this album was horribly boring.... Nothing happened.... 2/5

Its alright nothing great. Its a continuation of 80 commercial pop new wave. Well executed, fun and cool to know someone is still keeping the genere alive 50 years later. But being it instrumental sounds more like fillers in a mix between pet shop boys and erasure songs.

Might sound better if I was in the mood for it, but the tunes were whacky

Borderline 1-star. Could make for nice background music in a movie scene, I guess.

You can hear the production that New Order did so well in here but none of the humanity. 2.5.

beetje irritant maar wel ok

So leicht Techno-mässige Musik, brauch ich nicht

Favorite Track: Pacific 202

90s electronica is always going to age poorly and this album is no exception. I guess it's ok, just gets annoying after a (short) while. 4/10.

Some cool stuff but as a whole it's kinda meh

Not for me.

It's fine. It's definitely ahead of its time considering it's from 1989.

could i write poetry to this? n

I kinda remember 808 State from back in the day. Then I was reminded why I forgot about it. I don't see how this is a "must listen."

808080808 caught my attention. This is just electronic dance music though - not my bag, baby, even if it was influential and before it's time.

Kraftwerk did it better a decade earlier

Some chill PlayStation game menu vibes, but not much substance.

Now and again, I get excited about receiving an album with electronic music. Something totally new to me. Alas this is not really up my alley.

Kinda weird kinda mid kinda cool?

After a couple tracks I got kind of bored with the album. Nothing really stood out after the opening track. Probably not something I plan on listening to again

I feel like I may have rated this higher if I was in a club rather than working. Decent enough, I'm just not into techno or house.

Severely unremarkable

Plenty of repetitive diddle diddle but devoid of emotion.

Interesting but not particularly enjoyable 4.5/10

Songs just felt so monotonous

Magical Dream 2.8 Ancodia 2.3 Cobra Bora 2 Pacific 707 2.1 Donkey Doctor 1.7 808080808 1.9 Sunrise 1.6 The Fat Shadow (Pointy Head Mix) 1.4 Score: 1.975

There were a couple good beats that you could maybe freestyle to or get some homework done while listening to. Otherwise, this is boring and forgettable.

2.0 nope.

didn't move me really.

Top Three Songs: 1) Donkey Doctor 2) Pacific 202 3) Sunrise Bottom Three Songs: 1) 808080808 2) Cobra Bora 3) Magical Dream

Sounds like " HELP! I'M TRAPPED INSIDE A COMPUTER!"

Strange concoction of beep boops.. not a fan

Best Song: Pacific 202. The most upbeat and dancey track. Worst Song: Cobra Bora. Sometimes a song can try to do too much, and goddamnit is there too much going on here. Overall: Even if any particular song has one or two interesting elements, the album never gives you enough time to enjoy it as each track is overloaded with a trillion elements, switching between them with absolutely no warning.

Didn't care for this

Or really music in my view but I guess it is an album which years ago you could have melted and made into a flower pot.

It was annoying, but I didn’t hate it like I do Metallica or Eminem. So, I guess it’s 2 stars. I expect I’ll get William Shatner next.

bad but i suppose not terrible

Magical Dream Pacific 202

Not exactly an album to listen to and hum along. Very of its time and I'm sure fine in a club.

They say the 808 is timeless. Unfortunately, that's not true of 808 State. This whole thing was dated and frankly kinda lame. I expected better. Disappointed.

1001? No way.

This had its time and place on the dancefloors in the 90s, but it's not the type of music I would listen to outside of that. It sounds a bit dated and is somewhat tedious.

2 This feels like the soundtrack of a creepy banned wii console Love the png of a fish and a solar eclipse. Gotta have that

Flemme

Britische Acid-House-Pioniere. Aus heutiger Sicht etwas angestaubt.

This sounds like what you would get if you asked an electronic music person in 1989 to make an album of what they think music will sound like in like 2020. It sounds "futuristic" in a way that is distinctly '80s. It's generally not really my thing, but there are some moments that are reasonably nice. I like the bird noises on "Pacific 202." Favorite song: Pacific 202 3/2/24

The electro funk isnt for me, sorry.

Video game music

If you’d asked me to remember 808 state and whether I liked them or not I would have said Yes! Then I listened to the whole album - I only remember Pacific 202 and my answer is a lugubrious No. But not even in a committed visceral way, more like - I just can’t be bothered.

I think I like some stuff by 808 State, but none of it is on this album.

these guys are trying to kill me with all this edm. why do they love this genre so much?

Totally fine if it were 4:00 am and Keith and I stepped out for a fag in the warehouse parking lot but otherwise it's a lot to listen to in one setting even for this EDM fan.

Primitieve bagger

Definitely not my bag

1.8 - I've never been into this and don't think I ever will be.

notmy style

totally not my thing - too much electronic for today or really ever for me.

Electronic music suitable for dancing I suppose. Good production, well executed but very repetitious. It’s just not for me.

eher langweiliger elektrobestpop

Sounds like someone had fun in their basement putting this one together.

More electronic dance music. You can't 'listen' to this. It's just for dancing. I could just about stand to exercise to it. Amazing what you can do with a Casio keyboard, sampler and drum machine. I reckon I could knock up something as good as this in an hour or two.

First song was good electronic music, was hard to find anything enjoyable after.

I bet this was really cool in the 80’s

I'm sure UK 80/90's electronica has its place in music. just not for me. this sounds like music that robots would fuck to, if so thats pretty cool imagining two terminators grinding gears to this.

Takie tam plumkanie elektroniczne. 2/5

OK, I yield.... I'll tell you anything you want to know, ANYTHING... JUST STOP PLAYING Cobra Bora

Only knew Pacific 202 prior to listening to the album. It could have stayed that way.

Two stars because it was short enough that I finished it. Not the worst electronica I’ve been tasked with listening to so far.

Generic rave music.

The initial excitement on seeing this album was short lived. Magical Dream shows how much this sound has dated, and whilst it picks up slightly with Corbra Bora it certainly doesn't excite me like it would have 30 years ago. Pacific 202 is the gem on this album, a variation on Pacific 707 which is still a great record/tune/track/sound/thing

I thought I'd dislike it a lot more than I did

Felt a bit mundane, uninspired and not that interesting

808 actually I liked this better than some other electronic albums. There were somethings that were unexpected and it feels more live than some of the other stuff. Favorite was cobra bora. got bored by the end. Sounds like it must have been ahead of its time, I would’ve thought it was from the mid 90s 2

Pretty meh. Nothing really stood out but it’s not that it was bad. just not memorable

This is exactly what kind of music would play during an 90's-2000's hacker scene. Oddly enough the album by Kraftwerk is a few years older and better showcases the roots of what electronic music is today. All in all it was okay for background music but had so much going on that it wasnt interesting enough for me to want more 2 stars

Electro, pero no me ha atrapado.

I'm sure this was very influential for the era, but it's not really doing much for me.

Didn’t really do much for me. Was glad to get through second listening. Did remind me somewhat of Future Sound of London recordings in the early 90’s. Looking up history 808 predate London by around 2 years but very much contemporaries. Much prefer FSoL to this. To bright and jangly for my tastes. Where’s the edge.

Seems to have been very influential for a lot of the electronic dance music that has been made since this came out. Unfortunately, I don’t enjoy any of the electronic dance music that this has influenced, and I didn’t enjoy this either

Congrats on completing your first semester on music theory here's a synthesizer

Too much grunch

Not hard to hear the huge influence here, and that's impressive enough. There are legit hooks and grooves and some unique shadings (see vaguely Arabic flavor of "Pacific 202") that feels impressive (if not groundbreaking) for early house/techno, but overall it's far too frenetic-energetic, and thus very much not one's thing. The computerized vocals are a crime against humanity, a misdemeanor in this case, but it's risen to felonly level in the years hence (an influence for which they might be held accountable, critically speaking). As with all tech-defined and tech-dominated music, it doesn't ever seem to get anywhere or resolve its own (occasionally intriguing, intermittently intriguing, and momentarily melodically beautiful) complexities or add up to much. Also hard to envision anyone thinking, on his/her/their deathbed, "If only I'd got to hear more of 808 State." This music will only grow more forgetabble over time, and at a much faster rate than than the editors expect.

One of the reasons I was excited to do this project was to discover new music, including being exposed to genres I haven’t gotten into, or bands/albums I missed that do types of music I like. This certainly fits in the former. I really liked the first track and I’m a sucker for weird/interesting sounds in my music. However, this didn’t hold my attention and, at times, I felt like I was listening to the opening credits of Beverly Hills Cop, or the music you’d hear in the scene of a movie when they go to a club. Certainly well done, but it didn’t sell me on the genre.

Given the great band name and slick, minimal cover art, I really wanted to like this one. Unfortunately it was too minimal for its own good - stripped-down drum beats and archaic synths can’t sustain even the short runtime this LP aims for. There’s just something about 90s dance albums that has so irreparably dated them beyond repair and so many are now slogs to get through

Not on apple musak

Is this what old people mean when they say things sound like noise. 16/100. Only getting a 2 because they're good honest manc lads. Rkid.

Not my thing.

Electro, pero no me ha atrapado

Not made for me 2/5

UK electronica has had more than its fair share of slots on this thing, gimme more acts from the continent pls. The sheer number of this kind of thing really puts into sharp relief that not only were Daft Punk really good, they were specifically mopping the floor with most of the other acts out there

Pretty dull. It’s best moments feel like remixes of Depeche Mode b-sides. The most that can be said for it is that it’s not intolerable.

Silly and dated sounds.

This would be awesome on drugs in the early 90s. Not too fussed about it now but i appreciate that the sound influenced a generation.

A time capsule of 90s electronic music, somewhat aged poorly but with some massive highlights. This mix of pacific state is great. best tracks: pacific 202, cobra bora, sunrise

Look, I understand this is a landmark album in electronic music. I understand it was hugely influential on the acid house and rave scenes. I'm very happy that Manchester at the close of the 1980s has good representation on this list, as it seems to have been a fertile, groundbreaking time. I hugely appreciate that, unlike many of its successors, "90" is only 39 minutes long. I even enjoyed "Pacific 202" as a reasonably dynamic, sweeping leg-shaker. It's just that I couldn't shake the feeling I was trapped inside an enormous ringing Nokia phone from 2002. Send help, for I have been transformed into a mere microchip in Ringtone Factory, surrounded by raving robots force-feeding me happy pills and glitching out all over the place. One day, an electronica record will move me to my core. But sadly, today is not that day.

Not my sound.

I can see how this one was influential. Pretty intricate instrumentals. Not something I would listen to again.

Too techno for my taste. I prefer my EDM to be more house/trance, and while there's definitely some house in here (especially in "Pacific 707"), there's too much of an 8-bit MIDI vibe. I often felt like I was trapped in a NES game. Let's call it a 2.5.

This one didn’t immediately click with me, but after a few tracks I was booping along. Another example of something that was super innovative for its time, but also a product of its time. If you like drum programming, this could be a great one for you.

The Roland Bass Line makes videogame boss music. Not a waste of time at all, but like... why?

Historically important for the future of house music, yes, but also incredibly dated. This isn't music to be listening to with your headphones at home, reading reviews about online. It belongs to the ghosts of dancefloors in the 90s past.

I don't take drugs. I liked it but wouldn't listen to again.

Always glad to listen to an album from a genre I rarely hear. This one gets a bit repetitive to my ear, but it's very well done.

Love the 80s sound but this album didn’t do it for me. I will need to relisten to see if this album improves. Let’s hope so! 3/10

It was ok, very 80's feel, but didn't grab me.

Dance music. It doesnt make for a great album, but the tracks are OK. 2/5

Man why does this kind of music suck so much

Pacific state and that's it

utterly forgettable. monotonous. boring. why?

Nothing stood out about this album, it was decent background music though

This is an album that needs to be listened to on a good stereo, not crappy in ear headphones. I tried listening at work with headphones and it was just so many clicks and beats and electronic sounds, nothing that was exceptionally great. When I listened to it in my car though, it was much better! It needs the bass to enjoy it for sure. Still not something I would listen to on my own though. Listen again: probably not Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song: Pacific 202 Worst Song: Can’t really remember all the songs, only the one that stood out that I liked.

I'm afraid I just don't get why this stands out enough to be on this list.

Not a huge fan of acid house beats. However, for 1987, not bad.

Pretty lame tbh

really not my vibe

Ok, I did understand how much the book's author is really into party hard. I got it, I swear.

kinda "futuristic" - it's OK. Almost like merging 80's with dance music. But then also something that would show up in Stranger Things or ET. Not my bag. 2 stars.

Listened to Out of Step and this right after... I have a headache

Not impressed. Lackluster techno. Feels like boring, background music to an early video game. Standout is "Pacific 202"

This had its time and place on the dancefloors in the 90s, but it's not the type of music I would listen to outside of that. It sounds a bit dated and is somewhat tedious. 2/5

(n.b. this linked to a different/US/longer version on my Apple Music. To my ears that one is much worse than this original disc and I was panning the hell out of it until i realized the mistake. I do like ("like") the proper version more - it seems to cut a lot of the most repetitive and dated sounding tracks which doesn't make sense to me but hey... fewer annoying minutes is better. Still not a fan tho. Am keeping my initial reactions to the longer/worse album just for my own weirdness but I'll never read it again. Anyways, this is enough for me to boost from a 1 to a 2. the world quakes.) 1989 release date. I never could have guessed. /s This could have been a sample disc included with the "new for the 90s!" budget drum machines. It's not interesting at all and sounds like you might guess it does... very early-period electronica; like someone just got a bunch of new-for-the-time tools and put together a series of loops with canned beats. Incredibly dated like so many other 80s music of all genres. Playing with the then-new technology turns out to just sound lame pretty quickly. I like electronic music but a lot of this is shockingly weak come on. 3/10 2 stars.

Decent but a bit irritating after a while. I can imagine this would be great to run or write an essay to. One of those ones I need to be super in the mood for

Too much mediocre “electronica” here :(

One of those albums I just cannot see merits inclusion on this list. I didn't hate it, but I think I'd have to be on something chemical to have enjoyed it.

Unnecessary and boring

Felt like I was trapped in a video game. Fun to work to, but I'd never put any of this into a playlist.

Not for me. I was leaning towards giving just 1 star, but then I cranked the volume up and discovered a little more... 1 additional star, to be exact.

It's alright as a historical record. 2 glow sticks out of 5.

Not awful, but not my cup of tea

Completely in one ear and out the other, fade into the background music. While not unenjoyable, definitely don't see why it was included in this list above another of the same genre

40 minutes of sounds. I'm not sure if this was innovative for the time and that's why it's included here but there wasn't really anything that stood out about this album. It wasn't bad but wasn't good.

Someone found the "house" section on an old electronic keyboard and went to town.

not my fave. i’m not too into the sort of electronic song and i’m more of a lyrical kinda goblin myself

Maybe if I was into this techno-ish genre I would appreciate it more

pleasant enough noodling, and okay if you like dancing to this sort of thing. Not really for me

I'm so lost

I love 808s and dance music but idk about this one. I usually like House-style music but something about the songs here were a little harsh for my taste. Not bad music by any means just not for me.

90 is the second album by British EDM group 808 State. The music can be classified as something in between acid house and techno. This album showcases an early form of EDM - a genre that would explode in popularity throughout the upcoming 90's and after the turn of the century. I liked the nostalgia given off by this older style of EDM, but I love the newer, more popular genres of EDM of today.

Ok electronica

Not really my thing so hard to judge tbh. But 2 stars for being forgettable

Wild early electronic styles. Not my thing, but it is intriguing to hear it.

This felt little a demo reel (no surprise given the name) and made 40min seem like 2 hours. Fuck off. 2/5.

Meh, couldn’t get into it

I honestly can't find it in myself to care about this album at all.

Si me muero mañana no pasaría nada si no lo hubiera escuchado

I think I need more vocals on my electronica.

Yeah this album wasn’t for me, a bit dated now and maybe not helped I’m listening to this at 8am.

This album has all of the 80s sounds, essentially no lyrics, techno. I suppose it could be considered a precursor to EDM. I did not dance. Nothing is really memorable about the album. I have no need to listen to it again.

Not a big electro guy. I need a melody, something to listen for.

Good for what it is: ambient/background dance music. I definitely wouldn't mind having it on while I studied or worked or something. Relative to the albums on this list it's a 2/5. It reminds me of the music that played when I worked a laser tag arena at a in 2018 I've learned to appreciate that the 1001 list isn't necessarily the same as the 1001 best albums of all time. (Most "best albums of all time" lists are lousy anyway). This 1001 list is meant to be a survey of important/influential music, as well as include some greatest albums of all time. That's why I like it. I can appreciate that this is probably an album that inspired a lot of modern electronica music.

2.5/ 5 at best. It's definitely nothing special. I think a couple of the songs are better than the rest, but overall, it isn't for me. I'm glad there are folks that enjoy it.

late 80s techno

80s, early 90s house techno. More British stuff pushed. It was fine, that's all.

The team behind the decision of choosing 1001 Records should have the bar set higher, imho

Samey all the way through, Pacific 202 is probably the best song, but all the rest are nearly as "good", or "half decent" to be more accurate

More like a drum machine demo reel than a coherent album. Background music for video games.

By the numbers, somewhat appropriately.

Oh Dear, another Dance Album! I missed the whole Ibizian experience as we were heavily parenting at the time. I am sorry but I suppose "you had to be there" to experience the real feeling of this music. Acid House obviously has it's merits and Musically this album is at the top end for me but..... just don't "get" the love of the repetitive beats etc. But I suppose you had to be there and popping some "e's" "Pacific 202" The stand out track but not a record in my collection I'm afraid.

Def not a must listen for me...

Goofy, really didn't see the point to this. So many cheesy riffs and weird vocal choices.

Been looking for my pacifier and glow necklaces all day and now that this is on, I need them IMMEDIATELY!

Since listening, I've discovered that there are two versions of this album, with different track orders and even some added songs. That's annoying. Did they at least wait a while? Kanye West released "Donda" earlier this fall, clocking in at almost 2 hours long, then released a "deluxe" edition with five additional songs and topping the 2 hour mark. Calm down, Kanye, you've gotta space this out and spend years milking this with special and deluxe and international and live and remastered and anniversary and whatever else editions. Oh, and the "Kanye's Version" re-recording. Anyway, I only listened to one version of "90." Maybe the worse one? Definitely some decent songs, but also some that made me glad the genre developed past these guys."

I don’t know a ton about electronic music but this was somehow both strange AND boring.

The album has a neat tensity running throughout, but doesn’t do much for me. Time & place

Not bad. First listen. Not really my choice of music, but it is enjoyable. 2/5

A bit like standing and playing pinball games.

Get me some party powder immediately. 🍭🤪🙆‍♂️

1989: Pacific 202

The gimmick of this album is kind of lost on me as we live in a time that the 808 is seen all the time in popular music. While I understand that this is a very influential-type album for the 808, this is kind of boring contextually.

While it's not necessarily a genre I explore often, I've heard plenty of electronic music in the past that I've enjoyed - everything from techno, house, and dubstep to more obscure genres like drill n' bass. With all that said, I can't stand this album. I'm not sure what warranted its inclusion on this list - perhaps it was more of a trailblazer upon its release - but these songs range from boring at best to grating at worst.

Overall I find this genre of music too chaotic to latch onto anything in particular. However, the opening track is a sceeching fill in the first few seconds that grabbed me. Overall, the sounds are just a little harsh (in terms of timbre) and pointed in terms of pitch and melody for my ears.

Kinda kitch, but this was revolutionnary at the time. My ears man.

No genre of music has improved more than this edm garbo, thing has 808 in the title wtf (still innovative i guess)

Techno is not my thing but I can appreciate the creativity that went into making this.

Really wanted to like this, but it sounded all the same. Tried too hard with th sythn, a little more guitar would have been better. 2 stars

Interesting stuff

An ok album. Was somehow expecting more energy and vibrancy. Pacific 202 stood out. I’m sure the tracks have more impact played loud in a club and lose their potency being heard via earpiece headphones but left feeling uninspired in any case.

Found myself wishing it was done waaay before it was. 202 Pacific was okay

A couple of bangers but pretty dated

I'm lacking the enviroment to enjoy this. Did not age well

I like the font? “Donkey Doctor” is a funny image? I don’t know, that’s all I got.

Not a fan of late 80s and early 90s electronica.

Greet at the time I'm sure! Not aged very well thoigh

2.5. Very 90s electronica that reminds you of that sound of the 90s. Computerized beats, synthesizers, and airy vocals

I just don’t get this type of music.

I get it, but I did not enjoy it

Well, no. Mostly waiting for something to happen - it rarely did. Favourite: None

1990 loading. This felt like soundtrack to my prom except those Rob Base, C&C Music, Paula Abdul songs were catchy. Track 1 irritatingly repetitive. Track 2 direct rip off Herbie Hancock Rock-It. By Track 3 questioning if I have stomach to continue. By track 5 actively skipping. On to tomorrow. 1/5

This felt like 34 minutes of video game music

I don't like electronic music, except when I do (Elastica, Soup Dragons...). This is not in that exception category. This was irritating. I'm not sure if this is Electronica, or house, or techno, but it is a no-no.

Surprise, another 90s techno album! I read some of the listeners notes to understand why anyone would consider this a great album. It’s mostly because they heard it when they were young and it now has some sort of nostalgic feeling for them. I suspect the author was a teenager in the 90s.

Why would anyone want to listen to this.

Bad electronic

Milquetoast. 3/10

This is the kind of electronic music that gives electronic music a bad rap. Too techno for my jam and the garbage backing track through every song makes my head hurt.

This was a cross between dance party music and atmospheric sound effects, and sometimes waiting music. I guess that's how I would describe techno. The songs were all pretty similar, not much variety. I didn't care for it.

This shit is awful. It's like disco and techno had a child and no one had the good sense to drown it immediately. Cage match with Slayer!!!

Pretty much hated this. Why is there so much ofcthis awful 90s British electronica?

Hard no

# Album Name: 90 # Artist: 808 State # Rating: 1/5 # Comments: Terrible # Top Tunes: # Would I listen to it again? No

More like 101 10.

This was awful but it is still better than Mariah Carey’s bullshit.

A few tracks had some staying power - Cobra Bora was cool This doesnt work like Gary Numans album and I dont know why. Maybe it tries too hard to be dance music instead of just music?

I’m sorry I genuinely hated this so much. Fav song is ‘808080808’.

I don't even like good electronic music, and this is not that. 1 star or F.

This was probably hot shit at the time, but now just sounds like ringtones

5am nightclub music. Shite.

No idea but pleased to know what an 808 is (vaguely) Oh released a few months after I was born! Wild that there was a world within the last decade that I claimed to categorically dislike electronic music? That said… this isn’t my vibe. I did quite like the first song and are those birds on pacific 202? Jury’s out re “acid house” and I imagine I’d feel differently if I listened in a trancey dancey vibe rather than driving home from the beach I’m reading this was wildly ahead of its time and that’s always impressive

Okay... I'm not exactly sure what genre this is, but I'm listening to this following listening to an Aphex Twin album and it low key sounds the exact same. If you gave me an Aphex Twin song from select recordings, and gave me a song off this album, I would not be able to tell you which came from which. Not my genre, great for if you're playing laser tag tho. Favorite track was 8080808

Not enough ecstasy in my coffee this morning. Do I need to break dance? Or play mortal kombat?

Slowly, but surely, I am getting thru this list. Album after album I am regretting it. This was bad....real bad. Why did I need to listen to this?

This would be okay for background music in a club scene for a TV show or play, but that's about the only occasion I'd choose to have it on.

maybe i am just in a bad mood today, but this shit just sucked

I hate it (8 songs, 38 mins)

80808080....more like 80085. This album gave me an irregular heartbeat.

Pointless

I did not like this album. This genre just isn’t for me

Obnoxious.

More dreamscape video game electronica crap. There is certainly talent here, just feels robotic and bland.

The perfect example of why I hate most electronic music. What separates this from the worst electronic album? I played 30 seconds before my wife, who can listen to anything, said, Wow, that’s annoying. Yep, well said.

Holy fuck. More British bull shit! I swear this list has to be a psy-op by the MI6 to see how much terrible music people can tolerate before they quit.

808 State – 90 (1989) On Day 72, I hit a wall with 90. Halfway through, I realized that while the production is technically significant for its time, it honestly sounds like a video game soundtrack but somehow worse. There were moments where I found myself bopping my head a little, but overall, it’s not a good time. This is one of those albums that sours the mouth, but I’m looking at it as a necessary step in the journey. It’s part of the evolution of music, showing how this genre started as ass before evolving into the masterpieces I'll encounter later. It earns a 1/5 for the listening experience, though I acknowledge its place in the history books.

Really? Some kind of soulless techno/house. Must have been big in Britain.

1.5/10 didn't have drugs with me, so I guess that's why I didn't enjoy listening to this electronica DJ mix meant for between sets. Highlights:

This music does nothing for me.

beep boop honk shoo

WE NEED MUSIC!!

My life would have been better if I never heard this.

My favorite part was the short run time.

Another album never to listen to in one’s life time !! Shit. Donkey Doctor 🫤👎🏻

p622. 1989. 1 star. Tedious electronica. I am sure I played Candy Crush with this as the background music. Bonus point for Pacific State, but otherwise this is a hard pass.

Techno beats with repetitive lyrics, usually just a single line repeated again and again. Hard pass. Best song: Pacific 202

In my opinion, electronic albums normally don’t age well. This album is not an exception.

It was the auditory equivalent of being molested. One star

Early electronic music simply did not age well.

Techno slop

Very bad

This is god awful

Rubbish

Really annoying. Probably a frontrunner of drum & bass or something (which I actually like), but I don't like this repetitive sound. Sounds very low quality

This is dance music, not listening music. I had to fast forward through the whole thing.

Wow, that‘s bad stuff.

Very annoying

not a fan

Not good at all

Daft Punk beta

Not good.

Best part about the album is it’s only 39 minutes.

Garbage

Another album that should be 1001 albums that make me want to rip my ears off. Must be what Van Gogh listened to.
