What the hell is this

Hmmm....not as good as I expected

There is nothing special or different about this album.

Techno sux as a general rule. This was not the suckiest, but it still sucked.

Interesting, but not my thing.

I'm a sucker for electronic music, but I could never get into 808 State.

electronica rara, un poco rallante, medio funk, medio scratch, medio organillo, 2/5

3 - BAD

electr., dance, 1989 -> 2

Electronic music isn't really for me, this album begins by building off some repetitive themes. The first two songs feel very similar to each other however the change from Ancodia to Cobra Bora is kind of insane. From a very repetitive pattern to an even more repetitive pattern but on cowbell so its latin. Interesting break down on Cobra Bora switching to some 808s I think? Funky latin inspired with an interesting synth layover? How is this song still going 😮‍💨😮‍💨. Slow build up but eventually plays every looping track at the same time? Massive slowdown into Pacific 202. All of these songs are really long. Bird calls at the end of pacific 202, some kind of symbolism likely with pacific ocean but doesn't fit the vibe? Going to have to be harsh with this album, 2 stars.

Electronic music without much humanity to it.

Not really my sound, I can tell they are talented and it’s well made music but it just isn’t a kind of music that works for me

WOAH! This was the first album that I have not heard of on this list. This album was a first of it's kind for me. I was never much into the electronic scene when it comes to music. Unfortunately this album didn't sway my decision. I thought plenty of the songs started off strong, but then switched midway through and had no clear path. Not quite my tempo. Nothing much more to say about this album, had it's parts, but nothing stood out to me.

Nope. Maybe if I was high and at da clerb dancing or in a video game, then it would be a fun time. but this did not work for me.

Man… this was actually fun - in the weirdest way possible. A fun little surprise, but musically can only give it a 2.4 😂

One of the top reviews compares this to tubular bells on speed. Seems apt. It was…fine? My jet lagged brain is probably not primed for this. 5/10 Decent

A strong open, but not my jam

Relentless dance electronica. Not sorry when it finished.

I have come to the conclusion that I am the problem. I don't believe techno/acid/house/dance/electronica is different enough to have 10+ subgenres which all contain differences in the sound that my ears are hearing. I do like this kind of music, but I also have to admit I can't tell the difference at a certain point. The 2.70 grade this one received lets me know that I am not alone in this thought. This album is shorter than most other albums in this genre. There are no 8 minute tracks with the same drumbeat over and over again. Okay, so there is a lot of repetition, but it goes on for 5 or 6 minutes, which can still be too long for me. It is difficult for me to state what my favorite songs were, as Magical Dream is the only song I really could differentiate from the others. I was hopeful after the first track this could be something different from the other acid/house/dance/electronica albums on this list. It was not terribly different and I'm sure this is for someone, but that individual is not me.

Fine for mowing my lawn yesterday, but I will never think of 808 State again after today.

Not terrible but just overall uninteresting.

euuuuhh pas tant sorry

I find it hard to listen to and enjoy the older electronic albums on here because while I’m sure this was groundbreaking for its time, in today’s modern electronic scene, this just comes off as cliche and repetitive. Likes: Magical Dream

Oh no please no. Mancunian Electronic bands are not for me. Electronic Pop like the Pet Shop Boys, sure but this is just hooks with funny noises and feels very clubby, that’s so who I am not. This band influenced acid house music too, just another nail in the coffin for me. Make it stop.

Seemingly random arrangements of beats, samples and casio sounds. Too flat and too repetitive.

I was not previously familiar with the artist or album. This is an electronic dance/house album. I don't particularly care for it. It's pretty repetitive and does not really do much for me. I wouldn't listen again.

The beat is like an extra powerful disco. Not much for me to really appreciate. 2/5

Kind of fun running music but also a little annoying.

No, sorry. This isn't really my cup of tea. Two stars...

Bunch of clicking and clacking. Extra star because I have a soft spot for pacific state

If I wanted 80s/90s techno I'd boot up Sonic the Hedgehog. At least I'd have some fun along the way. This album took for-fuckin-ever to make no point at all. At least put a donk on it mate.

Felt like I should have had this on while playing Contra or something. Not bad, but not something I would ever return to and did not make me want to explore the genre much further. Maybe some other album will, but this one didn’t hit for me

not my jam, but in terms of background-music quite o.k. 1,5

Not my type of album but it definitely evokes a very specific vibe which I appreciate. When I listened to it I felt like some 80s spy with and impeccable fashion sense and enormous shoulder pads. It’s like 80s opulence avant-garde mysterious core

Not a bad electronic musician. Some good music.

I guess I don't really need to hear this again. It was fine as kind of intense background music while I was doing something else, but I don't think I'd ever what to hear it and actually be paying attention to it.

Not for me

This is an album with a purpose, and that purpose is to give people who are totally off their respective faces (due to consumption of their drug of choice, wether it be alcohol or something stronger) something to dance to. And I expect it fulfills this purpose admirably. It is not, however, an album to sit and listen to when straight. This makes rating it very difficult as I suspect very few people going through this list will listen to it under the circumstances for which it was designed (I know I wasn't). Therefore although it probably deserves higher I cannot justify giving it higher than a 2.

If calculators made music it would probably sound like this!

Relentless unending beat. Not in a good way. Monotonous sound

Not my cup of tea, but first song was nice.

I assume that the chemical enhancements of ecstasy made this much better, but as a teenage drinker making the most of student night at Utopia (£1 entry, £1 a pint all night) this sort of stuff was just interminable to me in the late 80s / early 90s. Listening now, I can at least acknowledge that there was some craft in its creation, but it’s never going to be music of choice for me.

Top 3: Magical Dream, Pacific 202, Ancodia

This wasn't terrible but I'm not in a rush to listen to it again

Feels like a draft of songs designed to be remixed for the dancefloor.

Elevator music.

It wasn’t bad, but it faded into the background pretty quickly.

There are like two 1-minute stretches of 2 songs that save this from being a 1. Shocking that an album with a song called “donkey doctor” wasn’t better.

Didn't really "get" it.

I guess it’s ok to do drugs to or if you’re in like a space video game world

Not my thing. Too much like a 90s video game soundtrack.

Ugh, I get zero vibes from this. It sounds like some cheesy, overproduced 80s dance trash that just doesn't hold up. Seriously, without being in a warehouse back in the day, throwing shapes, it's just bland, repetitive, and robotic. It's basically annoying background noise, not music I'd want to listen to. People say it's groundbreaking, but it sounds like something you'd hear in a bad movie. It's got no soul, and it's just... bad. If this is the best the genre has to offer, I'm gonna find something with some actual character.

This album was a weird one. Was not expecting it on the list. Anyway some of the sounds were good, most were quite repetitive, it kinda took me back to One Must Fall and I did go listen to the soundtrack of it after listening to this.

Beep boop Bing bop

После альбома в очередь автоматически добавился саундтрек к игре для PS и я не заметил разницы. Думайте. 2 звёзды за хаус и вог мотивы.

Bland. Don’t understand why this is on the list. There are other groups putting out better music of this type at the time

If it were Mario kart music, maybe I could have enjoyed 5 minutes of this. Just electronic noise; I could only listen if I were in the Silent Disco club, with no head phones. You feel me?

Mindless house music. Nothing special. Nothing terrible.

It wasn’t bad at the time and I remember 808 being something of a go-to reference point for a kind of techno or techno-adjacent style of house that was a fine precursor to other, better groups. Now? It’s just dated. Them’s the breaks.

More electronica. All blends together at this ooont.

I don’t know why there are so many club music albums on the list. This music exists to be played as singles in a club. Who is sitting down and just listening to 40 minutes of beats?

I can imagine that if I was pilled up in a UK nightclub in 1989 this would be special to me. But I wasn't, and it really just sounds like a load of noises. OK to have on in the background when doing other stuff, I suppose.

Woof. This felt way longer than 39 minutes. Probably fine for what it is, but not my jam. 2.2

Soundtrack to 90’s techno-rave party. Boring as an album to listen to outside of this framework

Impressive for 1989 but pretty boring for 2026?

Sounds like what people in the 90s thought future music sounds like

if i wasn’t sober this would’ve hit better tbh

Not sure where one song ends and another begins. Definitely not worth inclusion on this list.

808 = b@d

I am a fan of electronic music, but I'm not seeing the cultural significance of this. British/personal bias strikes again.

Not my jam

Helt ok?

Electronic music. Not my cup of tea. Boring, repetitive.

I mean, at least it's short

How big would this list be without middling English electronic music? Like 250 albums?

Repeat

This is somebody’s vibe no doubt but it ain’t mine

This wasn't it for me. I found it really repetitive and boring :( 1.75/5

I’ve been getting a TON of techno and electronic lately, which isn’t really my jam. But this was ok. It definitely sounds like it’s more from the turn of the millennium rather than 1989. And it’s kind of cool. Some of the songs like video game levels from NES games, some sound like a rave from 1999. So it’s varied, and holds my attention well enough. But I’m just not a connoisseur of the genre.

I've never heard of 808 State but I'm not exactly in the loop on this kind of music; late 80s electronica is not something I would listen to by choice. This album kind of sounds like the sound track for a cheaply made, 80s-futuristic, animated sci fi movie. Like I can see the dude from Akira riding into the big city on the weird red motorcycle thing. I don't know, I only saw that movie once when I was a kid. And I feel like I will only be listening to this album once as well. Not my thing, though I can see how it could have been a starting point in this kind of music. I got bored quickly and was ready to move on in about 10 minutes though. 2/5

J’aime pas aussi

J'aime vraiment pas la house sorry ...

Some cool songs but I don’t think I’m the right audience for this

I didn’t have any party drugs at my system when listening. Nor was I in the basement of a club in London. So who can say what I really think

Перша половина наче норм, а друга не зайшла. Та і загалом не те щоб моє. 2.5

Weather channel mixed with early 2000s Donkey Kong video game music. This got old fast.

Before: I don't immediately recognize the artist or album title, one of which is "90" and the other is "808 State". Not sure which is which. Released in 1989, given the artist name, title, cover, and date, I'm guessing it's going to be something in the post-punk realm. Here goes... | During: "Magical Dream" starts off as a fast paced electronic number with a danceable beat. I'm assuming this would have been popular amongst the rave crowd but I was never really into that scene. In fact, I ever went to a single rave, although I was in my mid-late twenties during that time and many of friends went to them. I guess this album is not going to be too bad a listen. Probably going to get a 3, but I doubt I'll be adding any of these tracks to my 1989 playlist. About the closest thing to this type of music that I actually a good bit is The Prodigy's "Music for the Jilted Generation", which came out 5 years after this. You can definately hear the influence. And of course I'm reminded of The Art of Noise's album "Who's Afraid Of The Art Of Noise", which came out 5 years prior to "90". I just thought of them while listening to the beginning of "Cobra Rose", but by the end of the track, I'm being reminded of Dan Deacon's album, "Spiderman of the Rings", which is one of my all time favorite albums, but did not come out until nearly 20 years after "90". If you haven't heard, it's like "90" on acid, and highly recommended to at least give it a listen. I dare say, "Spiderman of the Rings" may never have happened if it were for "90", so thank you for that, 808 State. Sadly, there are no Dan Deacon albums to look forward to in the 1001 albums list, which is a major miss in my opinion. | After: "808080808" is my favorite track on the album. I guess there's no harm in adding it to my 1989 playlist. Not sure it will stay there the next time I review and sort it. By the time I got to the end of this album I started to dislike it just a little so on that note, I've decide to rate it 2 stars. I'm just not a fan of this type of music, especially when it contains few to no lyrics. |

#823. I don't have drugs on hand, therefore this isn't very interesting. 2/5: meh

1. dream - 1.5 2. ancodia - 1.5 3. cobra - 1.5 4. pacific - 1 5. donkey - 2 6. eight - 1.5 7. zunrize - 1.5 8. zhadouu - 1

Interesting, but not to my taste.

Ho hum. Nothing here that made this rise above the basics of its genre.

This was alright honestly, it was a bit funky but it wasn’t like unlistenable. Would I listen to it again? Probably not. Favorite song on the album was Ancondia, Pacific 202 wasnt bad either, the rest was all meh?

Other than some cool drums cool in spots, this didn’t work for me at all. The only track I felt the groove on was 808080808… sort of. And Sunrise was pretty cool too. But like the title of the former, this album was so repetitive, and not in a good trancelike way. Every track felt like a beat with a little (mostly annoying sounding) electro riff on top of it over and over and over. Granted EDM isn’t my jam, but this one overall wasn’t remotely interesting and I looked forward to it being done.

Vjerujem da je ovo zvučalo futuristično kad je izašlo, sad zvuči prahistorijski i udara mozak u sve dijelove gdje ne bi trebalo.

3.0/10

“Arguably the best LP ever produced in the style” and it’s just the soundtrack from a low-budget video game. I let auto play continue on Spotify after the album finished and the best song I heard all night wasn’t even on this album.

Tough to like a genre that sounds like all other electronica music. And this algorithm has somehow become a sentient algorithm by popping two in a row…it’s sadistic.

This was meh to me, just not my vibe.

Grooved along with this one, but nothing stood out in particular. The feeling of the overall album I did like though.

Started off good, aside from the really bad vocals in the first song. Next couple songs were solid aside from some random noises they'd add in repetitively. After that though, things started falling off a cliff a bit. Don't think I've ever had an album start off at a 4 but bumble its way to a 2 before. Decent enough electronic music, but yeah, too many issues, and the music just isn't solid enough.

Acid house not my jam so ill leave it to the crowds to opine.

Electronic music that didn't so anything for me. DJ needs a bathroom break type songs

Listened Before? N Pretty atmospheric electronica. Still not really my thing. I did like the popular track "Pacific 202". Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Pacific 202

808 State a forgotten name from the late 80's and some Acid House/Techno. Their album "90" starts with the track "Magical Dream", containing bright, complex programmed electronic rhythms, all underpinned by a heavy, pulsating dance beat. Though this initial track intrigued me and "Pacific 202" sparked a clear memory, the momentum couldn't be sustained throughout the album and my interest expired by the time the record reached "Donkey Doctor". Not my cup of Tea so to speak. Two stars. 1. "Magical Dream" (3/5) 2. "Ancodia" (2/5) 3. "Cobra Bora" (2/5) 4. "Pacific 202" (2/5) 5. "Donkey Doctor" (1/5) 6. "808080808" (1/5) 7. "Sunrise" (1/5) 8. "The Fat Shadow" (Pointy Head Mix) (1/5) Total - 13 Average - 1.625 187/1001 103/187 albums reviewed were new to me.

Sagde mig ikke rigtigt noget, men ikke absolut skidt.

I’m not sure what I spent the last hour listening to. It was like Moby but not…

I find this kind of music hard to judge but it was groovy enough I suppose.

Ummmmmm

"Pacific 202" was a vibe but otherwise this was a very boring album, like most of the electronic we've had. Just real boring.

so much electronica/edm music on this list. and they all just kind of blur together 2.5 stars

Some of this was alright and I could see how they influenced the likes of the Prodigy. Didn't stop most of it being boring or irritating bleepy crap I could find a million not famous albums doing better.

Music for shouting over at the club but not actually paying attention to.

Fine for background but not worth paying attention to.

This was fine but I don’t understand all of the 90s EDM on this list

Why it’s here... I don’t know .

Alicia had to keep checking on me while driving because she “was afraid this 80s lounge music was going to put me to sleep”

Kind of an intense album. And not really techno. Not really trance. Sort of dance. Can't really place it. Loons in the one album was cool.

It's just noise. Sorry.

4/10 some interesting ideas but often a bit repetitive

I dunno. I assume this has some historical significance, like it was the precursor to the rave culture in Britain. But every song sounds exactly the same to me & because of that every one bleeds into the other. Boring, boring, boring.

Upphafslagið, Pacific 202, er um margt ágætt. Hin lögin eiga spretti, suma allt í lagi, en heilt yfir rennur þetta saman í electróníkhrærigraut sem er mér lítt að skapi. Jújú, ég myndi pottþétt heyra núansa með fleiri rennslum, og mögulega toga plötuna í þrist, en ég bara nenni því ekki.

I'm not sure why? Did it make an impact? I don't know. It just made me day dream of something better like the Donkey Kong Country soundtrack.

Sounds of the 80s not really anything that sticks out to me.

Pre: 808 like the drum? Post: a little Edm for me but I like the 808s vs contemporary Edm drums

Groupe inconnu. Musique terriblement répétitive et pas vraiment intéressante ... Pas désagréable (+1), mais ne me donne pas envie d'une seconde écoute. =>2/5

Techno

While listening to this album, I got a call that my uncle had passed away. So that made this a weird listen.

Some good songs but the rest too samey

Not bad just not my usual listen, ok for background music

Doesn’t age well

Pacific State

Meh, on this. I do like 80s electronica but this was not very memorable for me. 2 stars

Kinky national is interesting and reminiscent of Nine Inch nail’s Pretty Hate Machine demos. It’s also cool’s to hear some of Frank Klepacki‘s influence for the C&C soundtracks, but I found this a slog to get through

Never been to a rave. Never done MDMA. I feel like you need to have experience with at least one of these two things to enjoy this.

Didn’t care for this all too much

Quick listen. Good background music, pretty timeless for electronic music. Probably wouldn't listen again.

Metallic and pointy-sounding electronic music suitable as bedding tracks in documentaries about 90s raving and clubbing. Not objectionable but not something I would choose to listen to in my free time.

Not the worst electronica I've heard. Completely uninterested in the EDM portions of songs, but there were definitely some standout moments that I found much more akin to light dubstep, and much more enjoyable as a result. Top tracks: Pacific 202, Donkey Doctor

Low-mid 2, this one started off alright but I just don't vibe with this style

Tedious.

I don't care for this.

Couldn't finish, feels flat and not my style

Some interesting parts. Solid background music. Standout song Cobra Bora

This was completely uncharted territory for me. Familiar with electronic music but of this nature, so not really sure how to approach it or what to get from it. It was ok. It didn’t completely change my world. Didn’t really do enough to show me why it would be on this list either.

The doors opened, and I stepped onto the elevator to see her there. Far cooler than I, simply in town for a convention, she was dressed like someone on their way to a steampunk rave. Except this wasn't a costume; it was clear this was truly the essence of this beautiful being. She held out her hand, as lovely as the rest of her, with her palm face up. On it rested a small pill, almost black and unmarked in any way. She stared expressionless except for the slightest hint of a smile only at the corners of her mouth. It was an invitation into her world, a world that was a far cry from the day of presentations on economic projections and people selling things they asserted were earth shattering game changers in the business world that would simply be another subscription - always a subscription - that wouldn't move the needed any further from the red. She maintained a small physical presence but filled the now closed elevator - were we even moving? - and looked at me. I grabbed the pill, locked eyes with her, and swallowed. Suddenly, I wasn't sure what type of bird I was, but I was definitely flying. And the colors in my wings and the open jungle I now occupied were incredibly vibrant. The woman had transformed into the air itself as the noises surrounding us grew intense and transfixing all at once. And then suddenly it was over, and I was alone as the elevator doors opened and found me right where I'd started. At least, I think that's what happened as I listened to this.

*1989. English electronic. *Thought I would hate this at first, but it was actually okay background music for working. *Fairly melodic for being electronic. *Some light vocal sounds - not really singing. *Really not sure where this music belongs - it's not clubby enough for the club and not mellow enough to casually listen to... Maybe at a like a bad London house party? *Didn't hate it, but definitely not revisiting. RATING - 4.5/10

Not my vibe.

I don’t really hear techno music. I know music is playing, but I don’t notice anything about it. It goes uncha uncha uncha and does other things I suppose, but none of them register with me. The only thing I think when the songs are playing is “this is a techno song.” When the album finishes, all I think is “that was a techno album.” So, was this a good album? I have no idea. All I can tell you is that this was a techno album. I look forward to getting assigned an album with actual music on it.

Electronic

Acid-House / Dance / Techno / ElectroPop album that seems to be ElectroPop more than anything else. Quite boring.

Late 80s electronica. British acid house. Annoyingly repetitive.

boring.

I'm not a big fan of electronic music. We recently had a couple of electronic albums that really surprised me by how varied, catchy, or just plain good they were envisioned and executed. This one breaks the chain. It's just repetitive background noise to me.

Just not my jam. Not bad, but...

ok, aber genau einmal gehört.

Early techno music reminiscent of Miami Vice.

As far as dated electronica goes, this was pretty good. Still not my bag. 2.5⭐️

No more of this please! Another monotonous club record.

Elevator music for a trendy hotel.

I had a fall of expectations when I saw the genre and the year. I thought it was gonna be another weird tech-house eletronic music from late 80's and 90's. But for my surprise, it wasn't a complete bullshit. I caught myself jamming with my head with the music (tho I think it was a start of a stroke), so it have some value. But after all, this kinda music just don't make any sense to me. This should be hidden in some old DJ's pen-drive for him to play to some stoned heads in rave parties. 2 stars

not really my cup of tea , but historically interesting

Not really for me

Very futuristic electronic vibes. Could see this in a nightclub type setting in the late 80s or 90s. Not my exact cup of tea, but dance heavy and good all around feel to it.

Fun and groovy, this is music built for raving or hallucinating rather than sitting down and listening closely. Hypnotic beats and textures make it easy to imagine its impact on early rave culture, but it’s not an album I’d reach for outside of that context.

spiky music

I'm sure it was pretty cutting edge in it's day, but it doesn't feel fresh anymore.

I really didn't get this, I can respect that it's the original/first of its kinda back then but man it's so generic and if I wanted to listen to something like this there is much better newer stuff out there

Not a fan of this. Too much looping

I'd imagine a lot of wannabe cool dudes popped their collars and blared this in their DeLorean, but it's not for me.

Not as bad as some of the other edm in here. And thankfully short.

A bit weird, remember it dragging

Weird 80s vibes

Not to my taste.

Ok at the club maybe. On drugs

Слагам 2 само заради pacific 202 иначе си е наркоманска музика отвсякъде

Nah man. There is nothing special about this.

No cóż.

My body was in my office but my ears were on an unsatisfying long weekend in Ibiza.

2 - typical repetitive electronica

This list made me hate electronica

Uninteresting muzak with only a few enjoyable moments. 2/5

Just felt like move background music

Sounds a bit dated now and there are definitely better electronic groups out there

This is the first album I can understand being here that I disliked. Electronica instrumental vibes is all well and good but I need something to sing along to. Probably 2 for that reason.

Techno-type of music isn't my fav to listen to. This is like video game music at times but I'm missing the visual aspect to enchance it. I could always get my controller, I guess. Probably influential to fit the list.

I feel like heard this before? It sounds like a groove armada record until the beat kicks in. I like this album but I don’t think I would seek it out. It’s definitely a good dance record.

Meh. Just completely meh. 2/5

There’s a time and place for everything and I’m not sure a work environment is the best setting to listen to this one. I’m not even sure I’d class it as an album, it seems more of a random collection of tracks you’d hear in a club. No particularly good tracks of note but then I’m not on drugs. I suspect if I’d taken some and was in a club at 2am I might take a different view. Not for me this one.

This list needs to stop trying to make electronica happen. Electronica is never going to happen!

Slightly more interesting than a lot of other music in this genre from this era. 2.5/5

Not terrible, but just slightly annoying. This is uptempo bar/restaurant music in London.

This is one of those records that you play when you're working away or doing something else, but you don't want any silence. It was decent at best, but I don't think I was in the mood for this one. Maybe I'll give it another try in the future. I couldn't say I had any highlights on this record other than that all the tracks, except for the last one, were decent. I couldn't find any tracks that stood out in this record, nor were any tracks distinct from each other. This record just felt like a blend of one sound, and I couldn't tell where a track started or ended, which might be a highlight if you're looking for that sort of thing. I am also not a fan of 80s synths, but that's just me. Favourite Track(s): Ancodia Least Favourite Track(s): The Fat Shadow (Pointy Head Mix)

Didn’t like the background noises or the whining.

Electronica still not my thing, but this wasn’t terrible.

80s disco electronica Favorite track: pacific 202 other picks: ancodia, state to state

El único track disfrutable me pareció el primero, en el que hay voz. El resto es un álbum instrumental electrónico ochentero que me pareció súper genérico y repetitivo. No sé qué hace en esta lista.

Agree with others who say it'd be better if I was on Molly in an abandoned warehouse.

Not as bad as late techno from 80s goes, but that's not an achievement in itself. Very tiring, super oldschool, forgettable.

Sometimes, I forget that there are entire genres of music--enjoyed by millions--that have touched me only obliquely. How do I rate albums like that? Objectively, I know many people love to lose themselves in the kinds of beeps and squeaks of electronica ably showcased here. Subjectively, I'm not typically one of those people.

Man this is a lot. As far as house music (is that what this is?) goes, this is pretty cool and fun. It would be great to go out dancing to this. I don’t really understand how to enjoy this stuff as purely a listening experience. There’s all this energy in the music and the drum loops that needs a physical outlet. Just for listening it’s grating on my nerves.

+1 for the samples of the loon on Pacific 202. Sounds a lot like, Groove is in the Heart by Deee-Lite. It's not a great album really, too many different ideas, don't particularly like the evolution within songs. Not a lot of repetition, which is a positive. Really dated, but a bit of fun, to be honest.

As far as electronica goes, this wasn't bad. More on the chilled side which I prefer. Was a nice backdrop when running. Unlikely to ever choose to listen again though. Nothing really surprised me, but I bet at the time it was pretty innovative. Lots of electronic beeps, whirs, trills and quacks throughout! Why not. 2.5, as it's not really for me but I didn't mind it

did not ever vibe with this, but didn't mind it at any point either

In contrast to the Underworld record we got, where I said "I don't know how to describe what electronic music I like but I like this" - I dislike this. It sounds, I guess, too soundtrack/background music to me, like it's made strictly to be Dark Club Music for that episode of the X-Files where Mulder tries to go meet a vampire and maybe get eaten. 2.5?

Electronic albums, as I've written before, are hard to review for me. As someone who didn't grow up with the genre, I'm so accustomed to having both lyrics and music to analyze, as well as musicianship and technical skill. I have a general sense of how difficult a part might be, how complex an arrangement may be, and more. But I don't really know how difficult it is to program a synthesizer, create a loop, or find good samples. I have no clue. So that's why I find it challenging. As for this album...eh, it was good. "Magical Dream" is a little on the nose for an opener. There are some great grooves thereafter though. "Ancodia" and "Cobra Bora" are so easy to get lost in. The sax on "Pacific 202" is awesome. Not all of it works, but the grooves themselves, the rhythms and loops in each song, are great. In the end, though, electronic albums always feel lacking in a certain substance for me, so I feel like I need to give it two stars. Standout Tracks: Ancodia, Cobra Bora, Pacific 202

Et af de bedste elektroniske albums vi har haft fra den her æra faktisk! Jeg kan godt høre, hvad for en lyd de går efter, men altså jeg bliver aldrig fan af det her. Stor 2

not for me

Not my thing

Repetitive

Meh. Good background music, I guess. Honestly, much of this genre of music sounds similar.

Every song is too long. I’m not listening to an hour of spoons tapping a glass mixed with bass. 2 stars because it isn’t complete garbage.

They just love beating me over the head with my least favorite genre and idk, maybe it's working.

Some guys learned how to program drum computers and loop stations. Innovative - yes. I like it - no

I guess this shows how they helped establish many of the norms that would come to define dance and techno for better and for worse. Mostly worse.

Eletronic English good to take ecstasy

Not really my taste for sure. The songs feel unfinished, like they are supposed to have lyrics or a melody come in eventually, but they never do. Great beats though. Favorite track was magic dream

Exhaustively polished Electronica.

Electronic dance music is really not something you sit down and listen to like this list wants. With that being said allot of the tracks are repetitive and early House music was very chaotic and chromatic. Pacific 202 is a classic that I heard since I was a kid. I feel like this has a significant place and historical value for the development of electronic dance music but as a Must listen it feels a bit niche (might be strange coming from a Techno producer)

Not really.

Sounded good but left no impression on me.

Bit too focussed on the know twiddling and not enough on the songwriting.

Inoffensive, but ultimately unsatisfying. Like plain white bread.

Unlike some other electronic music on this list, this contained little variations or interesting sounds to keep it fresh. The sounds are also a bit old hat.

Dette blir ihvertfall dinosaur house for mine bortskjemte ører her i 2025.

Stock electronica

This was pretty good as background music while I was out on a walk. The beats really make you want to move. But it's also just kind of uninteresting. Most songs don't really go anywhere, and some of them are very long

Really only liked Pacific 202. That's not enough to raise the stars...

Nej tack. Det här var inte särskilt bra elektronisk musik. Mischmasch av ljud bara för att känna det som bitvis. Känns otroligt generiskt.

Nothing bad really.

Psicodelia quando a psicodelia já não era mais novidade.

It's not really bad. I just don't care for it.

This is certainly not an album i needed to listen to before i died

downloaded 2,3,5,7. decent, probably wouldn’t visit again

io e la musica elettronica siamo sempre un grande no. no grazie.

Acid house was never in my favourite genres within the realm of techno and EDM. I much prefer trance, trip hop and ambient techno, while this album wasn't bad, it's not what I like to listen. Somehow I find this album chaotic and dull at the same time. There's not enough changes to keep it interesting, there's not enough repetition to make it "kraut" and there is too much small samples in the background that it feels chaotic and incohesive. It's a mess to my ears. I also find the soundscapes quite dated, but that's not relevant in a review of an over 30 year old album.

bouncy dancey music

It seemed to go on and on but also get worse at same time.

Fairly boring electronic music that was difficult to endure.

I thought this could've been fine, but there were a couple songs towards the second half that REALLY annoyed me. So that drops it a bit in my rating.

Not my style. Couldn’t listen to more than 5 mins

Nah. Not for me. Don't like electronic music like this. It's just so repetitive. I didn't hate. But boy did I not like it.

Understanding how this is groundbreaking, it just sounds like all of the warehouse raves I was invited to as a teenager so I could be the designated driver.

The clue is in the name. This probably sounded great at the time, especially if somewhat chemically refreshed, but it sounded dated to these ears.

Not impressive

Oh great 80s house music. Not a HUGE fan of this, it's not as offensive as some of the stuff that's been on this list, but this stuff is just so uninteresting to me. Of the retro electronic albums I've listened to so far from 1001 albums, this one is probably one of the more listenable ones.

interesting sound, not really my thing. wondering if some of these songs have been sampled, the one sounded very familiar

I may have enjoyed it another time but not today.

2.5 Truly learning how endless the well of 90s British electronica was with this project….every couple days it’s a new one for me to experience!! 1001 British Electronica Albums you just listen to before you die, apparently

Really liked this, didn't quite love it. Maybe I've been spoiled by too much great electronic music made later.

straight up beep boopin it

A pretty unengaging album in my opinion. Put it on in the background and not pay attention to it kind of vibe.

It's pretty cool, especially considering when it came out, but it's just not what I'm in the mood for right now.

At long last, an early British electronic music album

This hasn't aged well. I reckon AI could make a more interesting album than this now. Sounds like after the hit, they just left the drum machine playing and went to the pub for the rest of the album.

Boring, just like the other 90% of electronic albums on this list.

Electro, pero no me ha atrapado.

Some songs are OK, some are not very good. Overall not a bad listen but definitely not something I'll return to

Raw technical audio project

This stunk like some old underwear

Not for me. Kind of difficult for me to get into electronic music just hanging out in my house or even driving. 2/5 Won't listen again

The first track was okay, the rest sounds like dated electro music, so not my thing. I did quite like Donkey Doctor however.

It's not bad per say, but it is also not something i am going to listen to again. I appreciate the sound, but theres not much to gain outside of that. Best Song: Cobra Bora Worst Song: 808080808

Interesting listen, but it's mostly just very dated. I can appreciate their talent and the complex rhythms though. Best song: Pacific 202 Worst song: Magical Dream

Kind of a proto-techno...just a bunch of repetitive bleeps, blips, and bloops thrown on tracks. There are some parts of some tracks that are interesting, but then its sort of beaten into the ground. The few vocals are of their time. Highlights: "Ancodia" (cool funky soundscape and there's a Speak & Spell on it!), "Sunrise" (cool burbling blips and bloops and something that sounds like a marimba or xylophone, a bit mellower than the other tracks)

This is totally not my thing.

Considering this is from 1989, I'm impressed by the early electronic soundscape they were able to conjure.

90 isn't for me, it's got something about it for sure but it's too 80s and too heavy on the sort of things I found on my first Casio keyboard in the 90s and thought were gimmicky. Sure, you can create decent music out of them, but it's not a must listen for me, just a solid 2.

Gear: Aür Audio Aurora Artwork: 🐠🌐♨️ Produktion: 🎧😐🆗 Musik: 🎛️🍄😑 Wertung: 🐠(🐠)/5

I liked about 10 minutes of this, I guess. I would describe it as “90s cop drama does an episode centered around “underground dance club raves” and this is the music”

Semi interesting and monotonous old school electronic music.

...Meh? It was mostly cacophonous to me. I have lots of albums to catch up on and don't really feel like putting in the work to elaborate.

Not into this. Sounds like pretty generic (and not very good) techno. Perhaps it was innovative and different at the time of release.
