Really fun and easy to listen to

A modern classic - very enjoyable listen

Pretty good.

i'm survivor too

MKAAAAAAAY I HAVE THE FEELING I'M GONNA LOOOOOVE THIS ONE I'M BACK Honestly? A solid 4 too RANK OF FAV SONGS: (honestly it is in order of appearance) 1. Survivor 2. Bootylicious (WDYM IT WAS FROM THEM ALL THIS TIME?) 3. Nasty girl 4. Emotion 5. Dangerously In Love

Beyonce' officially about so head out on her own and become one of the biggest artists in the world. This one is full of great earworm tracks!

kdot if he was 3 women

This album is legitimately a groundbreaking experience as it helped launch Beyoncé's career. This one has most of Destiny's Child's biggest hits. Survivor is an anthem, Independent Women was on every pop, hip-hop, and R&B radio station and in every club, Bootylicious was a rump shaker, popular of the new millennium, even though it was Edge of Seventeen. You even have the more ballad-esque pieces like Emotion. So, for a record from the turn of the 2000s, this really had everything you look for. Pop grooves, slow sexy jams, anthemic tunes, and club material. Maybe my opinion is unpopular, but really, to me, this checks the boxes.

not my type of music but i can see how it shaped the genre :3 meow

gran álbum con temones que no me acordaba

This got me going

ich höre das unironisch! sicherlich auch viel für feminismus getan dieses album

Favorite Track: Emotion Least Favorite Track: Independent Woman Pt. II

A lot of excellent pop songs with a little bit too much filler, could've taken 15 mins off and it'd be a 5 bagger.

Ohh! And they *POCKETS* full grown

It is what it is for its time and that's important. Also, Independent Women is a bop.

A few pretty good tunes, but mostly more of everything that was out around that era. You do have to respect when an artist invents a new word that makes it into the dictionary. Thanks, Destiny's Child, for popularizing the word "Bootylicious". The world needed that.

So many bangers on here! Independent Woman Pt I, Survivor, Bootylicious, Dangerously in Love, and so on. This reminds me of my younger years and I can’t help but dance when I hear this album. So fun!

Pure 2000s music. Es todo motivador y a mi papá le encanta Beyonce entonces puntos extra

Gran producción.

Better than I expected. Some good beats and harmony. Apparently I had a stupid grin on my face during happy song. Got slow after that song. Wasn't a fan of the vocal shift nonsense of ooOOoooOooaaaAaa kinda of things but overall decent

A really strong pop album, the hits are timeless, Beyoncé’s vocals really the stand outs, some industry cycled out crap in there towards the end though

Destiny's Child arrived at a formative time for anyone born in the 80s with a taste for R&B. This album smacks of all the characteristics from that era, and when you layer on Beyonce's world-class vocal... well... it's hard to rate this lower than a 4. That said, it could have been an EP; anything outside of the successful releases (Independant Women, Survivor, Bootilicious and Dangerously In Love) is really quite sub-par.

Overall a very good album and has some cracking tunes on it. There are a few I’m not keen on, but those are definitely in the minority.

Was surprised by just how much I enjoyed this album. I think its pretty front loaded but enjoyed it all

A few solid single woman anthems and I am here for it! Throw back to En Vogue, the Supremes, the Rondelles... a few too many fillers toward the end, but a game changing album. 4.

It's not my thing, but it's definitely a high water mark for this kind of pop music.

MUY BUENOO beyonce se carrea tdo el album no le pongo 5 estrellas porq espero a algo espectacular que realmente me flashee

Banger album!! Die production und die vocals sind mega! Meine standouts sind: Independent Women, Pt. 1 Survivor Bootylicious Apple pie a la mode

I was very surprised. An excellent album by Destiny's Child.

Hey its destinys child. You just cant be mad about listening to the club bops from the 2010s on a random tuesday

YESSSSSSSSSS not enough pop girlies on this list!!!!!! so hyped to get this one. also close your eyes when listening to my heart still beats and tell me it doesn’t sound like cynthia erivo. wow

Survivor, Independent Women Pt. 1, Bootylicious, Emotion

Wish Beyonce did more like this nowadays

Surprised how easy this was to listen to, despite having a younger sister that was playing this heavily at the time. DC3 FOREVER 3.5

Die Band war mir nicht so bekannt bis das Lied kam das mal rauf und runter Lief. Gute Musik

This is excellent. Even if you can see the extreme ambition. And that ambition was destiny’s child not children. That takes out a bit of the chaos that good music often has. Still excellent though. 4 stars.

Decent for what it is.

Speaks to how culturally massive this was, where I've never listened to the album alone, but everyone knows basically every number. I think my only criticism is that Beyonce is undeniably an amazing singer and performer, but I don't like the vocal acrobatics, where it feels more performative rather than a naturally emotion-filled vocal at least if I were comparing her to someone like Whitney Houston.

best wel leuk :)

Stacked

I don't need an hour of Destiny's Child, but the first quarter of this record is hands down some of the best pop of the early 2000s. Kelly and Michelle do not get enough credit for making this the well-rounded vocal group that it was. 4⭐️

Independent Women // Survivor // Nasty Girl // Emotion // Brown Eyes // 3.5/5

Nasty Girl au some nasty musig! uffff da chützlet fast scho d 5er sternli i mine finger.

Really great pop stuff to open this album, unfortunately like many 90s/early aughts rap/R+B, the album suffers from bloat and an overly long runtime. Still a great top half that holds up so well.

Destiny’s Child was the first concert I picked to attend myself. I think the album holds up in its pop 90s glory.

Y2K song is all over this album, but even still there's some fun 80s/90s hiphop sensibilities on tracks like Bootylicious that give the album some much needed variety. There are some truly wacky samples on certain tracks. The opening to Independent Women Pt II is hilarious. The vocal harmonies are tighter than hell, too. It's no wonder this album was so successful, its fun and well made. That, and sex sells.

No es mi tipo de música, pero me gustó todo (interpretaciones, producción y canciones). Está bien escuchar música que normalmente evitaría.

Kelly, Michelle, and Beyoncé are my favorite Destiny’s Child. This is a nostalgic album that reminds me so much of my childhood. It’s amazing to see how much all their voices age matured.

Beats are a solid 4*, but the lyrics a mediocre 3 at best. (No offense, but I think it’s understood that a survivor will keep on surviving. The point was made early on.). The vocals are quality enough to make that not annoying and tip the scale in favor of rounding up.

3.5. It’s clear the influence this had on later artists; although, many of them dialed up the scale slides and adding consonant sounds before words that start with a vowel. On second listen, there is a modicum of those annoying habits on this album (although it seemed like more the first time through).

4 v kontekstu, tko v pravih okoliscinah

Topparna är fantastiska! Sångarrangemang och sånginsatser super. Men detnär för många ointressanta låtar. En svag fyra.

Great album

What doing these lists has shown me is that Beyonce is mid and Destiny's Child clears. This is not perfect, it falls off pretty hard at the end but the hits are undeniable.

Girls Power!!

It's fun. I felt like survivor was overproduced, and that many of the other songs were better.

pretty good

Favourite song: bootylicious

Excellent production, great voices and harmonies, the music is surprisingly broad in style. The lyrics vary between powerful, silly, and even cringy. Nevertheless, some really great tracks, and the rest is not much behind. Didn't listen to the Gospel medley, as it wasn't available on Apple Music.

Based on my research, here is an in-depth review of **Survivor** by Destiny's Child, released in May 2001. ## Overview *Survivor* represents a pivotal moment for Destiny's Child—it was their first album as a trio (Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams) following the acrimonious departure of original members LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett, and later the brief tenure of Farrah Franklin. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, sold over 4.7 million copies in the US, and won the Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. --- ## Lyrics & Themes ### The Empowerment Narrative The album's central mythology revolves around resilience and female independence. The title track "Survivor" functions as both a personal anthem and a thinly-veiled response to the group's lineup drama, with Beyoncé declaring: *"Now that you're out of my life, I'm so much better... Thought I wouldn't sell without you, I sold nine million"* . This created a complex duality—while ostensibly promoting sisterhood, the lyrics often read as vindictive toward former members . ### Contradictory Messaging One of the album's most discussed flaws is its thematic incoherence. The sequencing creates jarring tonal shifts: - **"Independent Women Part I"** (the *Charlie's Angels* anthem) celebrates financial autonomy and self-sufficiency - **"Bootylicious"** embraces body confidence and sexual agency - **"Nasty Girl"** abruptly pivots to slut-shaming, warning women to *"put some clothes on"* and *"don't walk out your house without your clothes on"* This whiplash between empowerment and puritanical judgment reflects the contradictory pressures on women in early 2000s pop culture . ### Relationship Dynamics Beyond the drama, the album explores romantic relationships with surprising nuance. "Dangerously in Love 2" (a solo Beyoncé showcase) and "Brown Eyes" (a Walter Afanasieff-produced ballad) display vulnerability, while "Fancy" uses luxury as relationship metaphor. "The Story of Beauty" addresses domestic violence with unexpected gravity. --- ## Music & Production ### Avant-Garde Pop Sensibilities At just 20 years old, Beyoncé co-wrote and co-produced the majority of the album, demonstrating remarkable studio sophistication inherited from mentors like Rodney Jerkins and Timbaland . The production team included: - **Anthony Dent** (title track, "Nasty Girl") - **Rob Fusari** ("Bootylicious," "Apple Pie à La Mode") - **Damon Elliott** ("Sexy Daddy") - **Walter Afanasieff** (ballads) ### Sonic Innovation The album's strength lies in its experimental textures: - **"Survivor"**: Live strings arranged by Kerren Berz layered over thundering percussion - **"Bootylicious"**: The ingenious interpolation of Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen" guitar riff, creating an instantly recognizable hook that defined the summer of 2001 - **"Sexy Daddy"**: Discordant harmonies mixed with ragga rhythms - **"Independent Women Part II"**: Abstract, cartoon-esque production with elements from "Peabody's Improbable History" - **"Fancy"**: Pizzicato strings and lurching key changes ### Vocal Arrangements *Survivor* marked a democratic shift in vocal distribution. Unlike previous albums dominated by Beyoncé's leads, this record features all three members trading lead vocals throughout—a deliberate choice Beyoncé explained as the group reaching *"the point vocally and mentally that it should be at"* . The intricate harmonies, influenced by The Supremes and Janet Jackson, became a template for future R&B groups . --- ## Influence & Legacy ### Immediate Impact The album cemented Destiny's Child as the definitive R&B girl group of the millennium era. "Bootylicious" entered the cultural lexicon (Oxford English Dictionary included the term in 2004), while "Independent Women Part I" became an anthem for the post-feminist 2000s. ### Long-term Influence *Survivor* established production templates that influenced 2000s R&B: - The stuttering, syncopated rhythms pioneered here would dominate the decade - The "lead vocal rotation" model influenced groups like 3LW and later Fifth Harmony - Ariana Grande specifically cited Destiny's Child's harmonies on *Survivor* as her vocal education, explaining: *"I took it apart, put it in GarageBand, and dissected it all. That's how I learned about harmonies and runs"* ### Beyoncé's Solo Trajectory The album functions as a blueprint for Beyoncé's solo career. "Dangerously in Love 2" directly previewed her 2003 debut album title, while the production credits established her as a serious studio architect rather than just a performer. --- ## Critical Assessment: Pros & Cons ### **Pros** **1. Sonic Adventurousness** The production refuses to play it safe. From the Czech-cartoon weirdness of "Independent Women Part II" to the orchestral grandeur of "Survivor," the album constantly surprises . **2. Vocal Mastery** The three-part harmonies are mathematically precise yet emotionally resonant. The democratic approach to lead vocals showcases Rowland and Williams as formidable talents . **3. Unforgettable Singles** "Survivor," "Bootylicious," and "Independent Women Part I" remain culturally embedded two decades later. These are masterclasses in hook construction. **4. Beyoncé's Emergence as Producer** Her co-production on 15 of 18 tracks revealed a creative control that would define her career trajectory. ### **Cons** **1. Thematic Inconsistency** The album lacks a coherent narrative. The transition from "Bootylicious" to "Nasty Girl" is particularly jarring—celebrating female sexuality then immediately policing it . **2. Mean-Spirited Undertones** The title track's explicit targeting of former members ages poorly. What was marketed as empowerment often reads as bullying . **3. Ballad Fatigue The album's second half sags under the weight of three consecutive slow songs ("Emotion," "Dangerously in Love 2," "Brown Eyes"). The Celine Dion-esque "My Heart Still Beats" feels particularly out of place next to the experimental uptempo tracks . **4. Gospel Finale Disconnect The four-song gospel medley (including "Jesus Loves Me" and "Total Praise"), while beautifully performed, creates a confusing conclusion to an album about romantic relationships and professional conflict . **5. Dated Cultural References The *Charlie's Angels* name-drops and early-2000s "slut-shaming" culture make portions feel firmly anchored to 2001 rather than timeless . --- ## Verdict *Survivor* is a fascinating contradiction—an album about unity created amid fracture, promoting independence while settling scores, and pioneering sonic experimentation while occasionally falling into generic balladry. It captures Destiny's Child at their commercial peak and creative crossroads, serving as both a definitive statement of the group and a launching pad for Beyoncé's inevitable solo dominance. While the thematic messaging remains messy and certain tracks haven't aged gracefully, the album's production innovations and harmonic perfection secured its place as a turn-of-the-millennium R&B essential. It earns **4/5 stars**—flawed but undeniably influential, cringeworthy in parts yet revolutionary in others. **Essential Tracks:** "Survivor," "Bootylicious," "Independent Women Part I," "Fancy," "The Story of Beauty"

I was never into pop music as much, but this is a very well done album. It does seem slightly dated, but in this case it’s not a bad thing. The first few songs were definitely the highlights for me, but the rest of the album did not disappoint.

The lyrics can be very silly and the album is about 15 minutes too long, but the voices are amazing, and the melody choices are pleasantly surprising a lot of the time. Also, points for great production. 4.0/5.0: Great

Bought this album when it came out. I always preferred the Writing on the Wall album, but this one has undeniably catchy hits.

Undeniably iconic.

very fun, not all the best though

I was so pleased to see this appear and even more pleased to find I loved this album as much at 33 as I did when I was 9 - and still remembered most of the words!! I would have given this 5* but after hearing ‘Apple Pie À La Mode’ again I knew that would be a lie.

Приятный альбомчик, вокалистки топовые все-таки. Совсем не зашли последние два трека. Госпел на попсовом альбоме это конечно интересно, но максимально странно звучало

Amazing first half, second half kind of drags on too similarly

Very talented artists

makes me feel bootylicious Would I listen again? No Deserves to be on this list? Yes 3.6

i wasn't expecting a whole lot out of this one, but it's a surprisingly fun listen. the first three tracks on here go pretty stupid crazy. the rest of the album is pretty good as well. of course, beyonce is beyonce, but the other two have great voices too and the songs are fun and danceable. even the slow jams here are pretty nice. the production is really solid. i had a good time with this one!

No. 42 Quality stuff here, R&B royalty in the making.

type shit my mom would be blasting in the living room while she doing spring cleaning theres some questionable feminism here. also some sort cringe parts but all good 2000s rnb has that. i rly like this tbh

7/10 Favorites: Dangerously In Love Brown Eyes

Fun Album and some great harmonies. Usually not my style but found myself bopping along to several songs.

Like many before me, and many to follow: I am, in fact, not ready for this jelly. Despite my lack of preparedness this album was great. Mega strong opening three songs, but the album gradually gets weaker as it goes on.

Very good, but in hindsight not at the level Beyoncé can perform. Still, a nice antidote to that Britney Spears album.

Pleasantly surprised. First 4 songs bangers, weaker towards the end. Guilty pleasure album - quite possibly

'You thought I couldn't see w/o you / Perfect vision / You thought I couldn't last w/o you / I'm lasting.' Before Beyonce was singing about 'irreplaceable' she was in the crew that sexified women's empowerment via juxtaposition: the trilogy of 'Survivor,' 'Bootylicious,' and 'Nasty Girl' perfectly exemplifies that possibility. That logic, which isn't irrefragable, has nonetheless had a profound impact on our music and cultural sensibilities: no Nicki Minaj, no Cardi B, no Megan Thee Stallion, indeed no Lil Nas X or Lady Gaga w/o this. Musically, it's not only pleasurable but deliciously experimental: off-kilter rhythms and cadences that pop and prowl ('Sexy Daddy,' 'Perfect Man') transform a record that already buzzes w/ attitude into a fertile aesthetic.

forgot how fun this album was, brought back late 90's early 2000's memories

This is not a genre I spend any time in, like, at all. But this album is undeniably strong, showcasing great songwriting, beautiful and evocative harmonies, and Beyoncé's seemingly preternatural vocal sensibilities that that always feel right.

This was Bootylicious!

- Hätte nicht gedacht, dass ich es so gut finde - Nicer R&B vibe wenn ich das richtig einschätze - Ich kannte auch einige Lieder schon Topsong: Survivor

Why not. missed it at the time. better than expected. Great singing, interesting arrangements.

Would I be cancelled if I said Beyonce never made a better album than this?

A tour de force from three talents before the break out of a global mega star.

Without this album, there would be no Beyoncé. This was the springboard to that success with some absolutely perfect tunes. Destiny Child took the baton of RnB/Pop from TLC and smashed it out of the park.

The first three tracks is pretty awesome. The rest is ok. Slightly into 4 star territory for me.

This album was a great listen. As far as Late 90's Early 00's R&B goes, this has to be my favorite that we have had so far. Still funny that all of these albums near the 1 hour mark, but I had no issues with this one being that long.

I like this. I saved three songs. But I’m only going to rate 4/5. Something is off. It’s not cohesive enough or something. Sorry.

A truly good standout R&B / Hip Hop album from one of the best acts ever in the genre(s). "Independent Women, Pt. 1", "Survivor", "Bootylicious", "Emotion" are all highlights. There's a few funny production bits that surprise me... "Emotion" to my ears actually clips a little bit, which is funny because in this era that was really avoided but in today's day and age there's so many producers that really push volumes. There's times where I really want some reverb or depth, and I don't get it.. like on "Dangerously in Love", there are huge soaring vocal parts where Beyonce specifically is belting but the sound is so dry that I don't really feel it so much. Throughout, there's also some interesting panned elements.. I'll be sitting listening to a track and enjoying it, but there will be some random production sound effect like a series of beeps that will hit me in the right ear for a short rhythm every 4 measures and I can't really decide why they decided to add in some things like that. If I have a gripe it's that it's sound is dated, which is hard to be objective about and even more so 24 years later. The flow of this album is amazing. Going from "Brown Eyes" to "The Story of Beauty" to "Gospel Melody" is really amazing. You get SO much with this record. Hard rate for me. I'm going to give it a 4. I think it's a really solid record, but not quite as good as their previous one, "The Writing's On The Wall", which might be a 5.

Iconic. I knew almost all the songs, even though I’ve never really listen to them.

What a banger

A blast from the past that has super fun hits.

Last week, I complained that Jelly was underrepresented on this list.... egg on my face!

Thrilled this record was part of this project!! The one-two punches of Independent Women Pt 1/Survivor and Happy Face/Emotion! It’s also so interesting to hear how this was a runway for what came later, like Apple Pie à la Mode being the 2001 version of Partition The only reason this doesn’t get 5 stars from me is because of the weird juxtaposition of Nasty Girl against everything else. It’s jarring and feels v out of place and v much like a Mathew choice re: presenting a certain image of who he wanted them to be

The singles are the best songs on the album and the last track sounds like they were reading their yearbook inscriptions to each other but what can I say 🤷🏻‍♀️

This does feel like a time capsule of an album that captures the essence of early 00s girl pop. There is nothing wrong with that, but if Beyonce wasn't part of this, I don't think it would be viewed as important as many of the other albums from that time period. With that said, there are also some very good songs on this album - including the classics. Enough to justify giving this a four-star rating.

R&B just doesn’t harmonize like this anymore

Perfectly succeeds in what it sets out to do.

01) Independent Women Part I - 10,0 02) Survivor - 10,0 03) Bootylicious - 10,0 04) Nasty Girl - 8,5 05) Fancy - 7,5 06) Apple Pie à la Mode - 7,0 07) Sexy Daddy - 7,0 08) Independent Women Part II - 8,0 09) Happy Face - 8,0 10) Emotion - 10,0 11) Dangerously In Love - 7,0 12) Brown Eyes - 7,0 13) The Story of Beauty - 7,0 14) Gospel Medley - 6,5 15) Outro (DC-3) Thank You - 6,5 TOTAL: 8,00 (80/100) Current ranking: 195/632

The singles obviously are amazing, if a little front-loaded. "People contain multitudes" shows up in this album, which features a song about how sexy their butts are and also an a cappella song about how much Jesus loves them that ends with an escalating round of AMENs. I really liked it.

Los singles son brutales, pero el resto un tiro al aire. Mucho lento, chicas! Por los hitazos va un 3.7

I knew way more songs on this than I thought I would. The biggest surprise was that I enjoyed them.

I enjoyed this way more than I expected or wanted to 🫠

When I think of the great feminist albums, it’s necessary to include Aretha’s Young, Gifted & Black, Helen Redding’s About featuring I Am Woman, maybe Madonna’s Immaculate Collection (debatable), Alanis’s Jagged Little Pill, Sarah’s Kaleidoscope Heart, and this album. Probably Gaga, too. The Dream Team of Beyoncé, Kelly Roland and Michelle Williams created a blend of classic female girl groups like the Ronnettes with the R&B chops of En Vogue for the modern woman. Survivor and Independent Woman Pt1 were anthems that still get radio play today. Bootylicious took ownership of their sexuality and was an anthem to body positivity. Listening to Gospel Medley made no surprises knowing that Michelle Williams went on to be a gospel queen, and it was interesting listening to DC’s Dangerously In Love vs. Beyoncé’s solo Dangerously in Love 2 years later. Favorite track today: Independent Women #2, which I don’t remember hearing but had a sassy breakbeat and I can only imagine how this sounded live (as I cis-norm male I imagine I would be running for my life again). Happy Face is great too. I liked their intertwining vocals and the grace of their singing. This album is a classic.

Random thoughts: * This really feels like a time capsule. This music sounds very much of the early 2000s. * The first 3 songs were peak Destiny's Child. I remember these songs being everywhere. We were starting to realize that Bey was going to be our future queen. * The Outro was cringy and reminded me of the terrible cheerleader speeches that I get to hear each year at the end of the season banquet. Why would anyone put that to music. * Emotion was a great song. Is it a cover? Did they just use some of the musical elements of a different song? * Overall a pretty fun listen and flashback.

Obviously a bop and I love it

Not usually my genre but hard to knock the production value and talent displayed.

I very much enjoyed this album listen! I feel like Destiny’s Child was one of the strongest American girl groups of the early 2000s so this album was full of bops! I had a great time listening to this album and would recommend it to others if you like R&B, pop, and girl groups.

awesome

Really cool to see how Beyoncé carries the musical style with her remarkable voice.

Very good. First several songs are classics, then a lull, but finished strong, 4/5

shit slapped 4/5 I have a micropenis

Sure, it's "of it's time", but streets ahead of other "pop girlbands". Sass, harmonies, style and the singles are all still great to listen to 20+ years later (holy christ, I'm old). Does it drag a little? Could they have lost a few tracks and kept it tight? Yep, undoubtedly. But there will be groups of bridesmaids dancing with me to these tracks at my grandkids weddings, and I am very grateful for that.

Idk if these reviews are public or not, but this is just my personal rating. Pretty good R&B project. Listened to it twice, once high and once sober, and it held up. A little goofy in some parts but all around a satisfying project. I like late 90s and early 00s stuff like this. Probably should listen to more Destiny's Child.

This was a lotta fun. The harmonies are so good. This album feels SUPER 90s even though it came into in '01. I enjoyed it. All 3 vocalists are soooo talented and fit in perfectly and the beats are so great. Also this album feels fresh. Like it never gets stale. Actual 3.75. Liked Songs: "Independent Woman, Pt. 1" , "Survivor" , "Nasty Girl" , "Independent Woman Pt. II" , "Dangerously In Love" , "Brown Eyes" , "The Story Of Beauty"

Kinda gut

Bin ja nicht so der Destinys Child Fan aber die haben definitiv Geschichte geschrieben

This album had all the hits I know by Destiny's Child (as a non-Destiny's Child/Beyonce listener), but where it really shined was with the songs I have never heard before. I always knew these three women were talented, particularly Beyonce with her world-wide stardom, but I was unfamiliar with just how talented vocally they really are. This album had a wonderful mix of catchy tracks, romantic tracks, and even a sad track or two. It was hard to pick a single favorite. I really enjoyed Bootylicious, Fancy, My Heart Still Beats, and Brown Eyes. Realistically though, I would listen to any song off of this album. They were all fantastic and gave me a new appreciation of the already legendary Destiny's Child.

Survivor was actually a really good album. This album's structure kinda reminds me of the Christina Aguilera album Back To Basics with it starting with a very hip-hop/electronic like production kinda like the way DJ Premier did it in the album i just mentioned and with it later becoming a more ballad sort of album with some slower, more romantic vibes in contrast to Back To Basics' more moody vibe. This album does switch back to the other style though and even the slower songs still had more pop elements. I would typically dislike this but the pop elements actually helped the album feel more focused. The songs are still very catchy and memorable which does help make this album a really good listen. Best Song: Survivor Worst Song: Happy Face

So many bangers. Knocked one point off because of the laughable Charlie’s Angels plug at the top

Enjoyable. Does a good job explaining the hype behind Beyonce.

solid pop/r&b album all the way through.

Beyoncé giving me some of that jungle fever after listening to this

Not my kind of music but I get why people like it.

A good album, I like Survivor and Bootylicious the most.

3 belas vozes juntas com a melhor produção de r&b do começo dos anos 00 só podia ser um clássico mesmo!!!! emotion top 5 covers do planeta!!!

Banger after banger after banger. Weird to open with the Charlie’s Angels song and the album is way too bloated like all other albums of this time, but Destiny’s Child could really smash out a pop hit couldn’t they.

The htis at the front go pretty hard, but the rest is kinda bland, R&B of its era, drags. 4* The outro where they all circlejerk each other hasn't aged well, has it? Highlights: independent women p1, survivor, bootylicious

Question: I feel like people might be over-exaggerating how some parts of this album have aged. Like, yeah, there's a stretch on this album that's not... Great, exactly but I don't think people should be acting like it stands for the **whole** album. Actually, before I get into that, I should probably explain how I figure Destiny's Child. Which is really more how I figure Beyoncé at this point in time than anything else. Yeah, I'm one of those people who largely sees Destiny's Child as "that group Beyoncé was in." "Beyoncé and the other two," as it is. And, I mean, can you blame me, exactly? Beyoncé has long been such a towering figure in pop culture that I can find it a little hard to look too lightly at anything she's done. Now, sure, the weight of her celebrity and fame doesn't bare down on me as hard as, say Taylor Swift's does — I'll get to **her** some day — but I still wind up with the perception that she's, like... A goddess among artists. What she does is **important**, damn it, and is worth **serious** consideration. And it's not like I don't think that's wrong, necessarily; I generally hold LEMONADE up in that high regard. But, I'unno, it can put a stress on to make sure I'm talking about her "right." (And I"m pretty sure I didn't before when my group got her self-titled, but that's besides the point.) Which brings us to her time in Destiny's Child. I won't lie, there's something about her being in a group that, like... Humbles the perception, I suppose? Even though I still wind up centering her in my thoughts, she doesn't feel as unreachable as she would be in her solo material. Is that the other members bring her down to "our level," for what that means? I don't wanna be too dismissive of them, but, like, to be frank... Maybe a little? And it's not their fault, of course; when you're put next to someone so big, it's easier for them to get down than to have you raised up. That's not to say they're slouches, though. Even if I can't pick their voices out or, like... Name them without looking them up, they manage to hold their own. Honestly, they're keeping pace; they're clearly way more than just back-up singers for big Queen B. Like, damn, all three of these women are amazing singers — enough so that it justifies them showing off with that acapella gospel medley at the end. Believe me, if they weren't, or if there just wasn't anything to their voices but power and tricks, this track would've been intolerably self-gratifying. Y'know, "You think you can just roll up and impress with nothing but your voice? Get outta here." But for real, it's a nice way to bring some of that religious humbleness onto an album of what I'd otherwise describe as "bad bitch music." You know what I mean: the kind of music for women who are strong, independent and sexy; who love their man, but refuse to take any shit from them. "I could have another you in a minute" and all that. It's what Beyoncé's career would largely be built out of before she evolved into stronger feminism and black power. I mean, the first three tracks spell it out well: "Independent Women", "Survivor", "Bootylicious"... Throw in something from later on the album, like "Brown Eyes", and you have the whole picture. Well, almost. Here's the part where we get into what I figure is most people's problem with this album. Y'see, after those first three songs, which are nothing but kind and supportive of their fellow ladies, we suddenly get "Nasty Girl" and "Fancy", which, if they're about anything, are about hating other women. For being a "nasty girl" — which, I think, is the nice way of saying "dirty-ass how" — or for stealing "my man/style..." Y'know. It's, well, a sharply nasty turn for the album to take. And what makes it even stranger is that this general topic is never addressed again after these songs? As far as I can tell, anyway; unless I missed a stray shot somewhere. And, like... Look. I get it. On an album with such strong "girl power" feminist vibes, it's bizarre that they'd dedicate any time to putting down other women. It's not **not** a point against the album. To me, though... I guess the best way I can put it is that it's not unexpected. That just comes with the territory of "being a bad bitch." In my mind, there's always gonna be an inevitable crossover with being a mean girl, and, y'know, part of that entails being shitty to other women. We've all seen the movie; you know what I mean. So while I'm not really happy with this kind of stuff being here, at the same time, I'm not gonna have a fit about it. I mean, in general, unless they're particularly egregious, I don't like getting all up in arms about "problematic elements" of older art. I don't see much value in it besides you're deliberately trying to score "I'm a good person" points. Besides, there's other things about this album I'm not 100% on. For instance, as good as "Independent Women Part I" is, I don't jive with the decision to have it tie **so strongly** into the old CHARLIE'S ANGELS movie. I mean, to the point where the song — and, in fact, the **entire albums** opens with name dropping the lead actresses? That seems a little far for synergy. And since we're talking about "Independent Women", "Part II" is just... So bizarre to me. For the most part it's good, but between the old cartoon theme sample and the literal clown music interpolation in the verses... Like, why? Why was **this** the **original** version? It feels a little like a joke, frankly. And also, I'unno, "Sexy Daddy" just didn't do it for me. Maybe the most "It coulda been left off song" here — I mean, jeez, at least "Nasty Girl" had the random "Tarzan Boy" interpolation. That's something, at least. But all that aside, I can't act like I don't like this album a lot. As I said, all the women on here are great vocalists. Their chemistry together makes the whole thing. Plus, goodness, there's a lot of great production on here. The title track derives a lot of its power from the women, but gawd**damn**, does that beat ever drive. It's propulsive. Plus, hey, I really dig the ballad material that's on here. I can be a real sucker for them, and, mm, "Emotion", "Dangerously In Love" and "Brown Eyes" all hit the spot. Particularly "Brown Eyes"; it's a piece of Quiet Storm, and, gawd, the keys and synths on that are great. Top it off with a good ol' key change, and it's absolutely one of my favorites. In total, yeah, this thing has its rough spots. Parts that, for sure, haven't aged well, if they weren't already stinky to begin with. But that's not the whole album; the rest of it consists of largely enjoyable, empowering "bad bitch music," and I feel it'd be a waste to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I mean, take THE INCREDIBLES. That's a film with some... Undeniably Randian beliefs. Practically impossible to ignore. And that's, y'know, **not great**. But I wouldn't trade that movie for the world. Now, sure, that's not a perfect comparison; THE INCREDIBLES is a straight 10/10 in my eyes, where I'd say this album is more... I'unno. An 8/10? 7.5, at worst? But you get what I mean. If you're able to look past its one glaring issue, and I understand not everyone can, it's a good time. And certainly, I think it's more worthy of being here than Beyoncé's self-titled was. Seriously, over LEMONADE? All because it was the first to be surprise-released and also a video album. I mean, come on now. Does Beyoncé's self-titled have "Formation"? I don't think so...

A pop monster and the beginning of the beyonce myth. Lots of filler here, but some stone cold Millennial dance classics. Bootylicious launched a thousand ships, ya'll don't even know.

Krass schlechte Quali ? Aber gute tracks

Wow this something! Supremely well produced and engineered R&B Pop. It's the pinnacle of commercial manipulation. It's so good at what it tries to be - who can deny that?

Incredible time period! incredible time for music! excellent production amazing talent, just awesome.

Springy, slinky and full of jams. Not my typical music but a great album to listen to.

Destiny’s Child’s third album—and first as a trio—soulfully survives as a showcase of sublime vocal chemistry that turns personal tribulation into R&B triumph.

Besides randomly hearing a few random singles, I haven’t spent any time with this bands output so this was an interesting one for me. Have to say, more likes than skips. Great harmonies, fun lyrics here and there and for sure the platform that would boost a mega star in to the universe as well know her to rule today.

Idk if this was really good or this album just came out right when my first memories of music were formed and it’s nostalgic. Either way, it’s got some BOPS

rated up from a 3.5

The serendipity on this project continues, as I have had the most physically painful 24 hours of my entire life. Dont shave with dull rotorary razors children. This album has so many goddamn bangers. The really bad lofi synth samples are a little outrageous but its goddamn beyonce on this. She kills it. Though I am docking a star for the two god songs back to back. blegh.

This is pretty good, very similar to TLC. I think it's a bit better due to some better hooks, but it's still an album of R&B love songs. There are classics here like Independent Women and Survivor, but I enjoyed a number of other songs, with my favorite being Emotion. I can really see why this was popular back in the day as the trios singing really makes this a nice listen.

beyonce after several songs of nasty comments: you take my kindness for weakness :) this is soooo fun and really does feel like a time capsule. the production is very very 2000 and the anger at their former groupmates is palpable.... but also you can sense the affection the three of them have for each other throughout the album and how much fun they're having together. I love that despite coming in HOT for the first half of the album, it evolves into a very loving and thankful sentiment by the end; the outro with them telling each other how blessed they are to be in one another's lives is so sweet. i don't know enough about r&b history to appreciate where this might fall on the normal/daring spectrum, but there were definitely some moments that were unexpected in this kind of album; the techno/laser sounds in the outro, the circus riff/motif throughout Independent Woman Pt II, and (this part isn't unexpected because obviously it's insanely famous so I guess I'm changing it to UNUSUAL) the stevie nicks sample in Bootylicious that works so well with the r&b beat. (also shoutout the random beatles reference in the outro <3 michelle ma belle <3 ) Trying to really hear the extremely familiar and ubiquitous songs on this album is really a challenge, but I do think my appreciation of the composition of the first three tracks has grown from this listen through. they really are masterpieces!! Fav tracks: Independent Woman Pt I, Survivor, Bootylicious, Apple Pie A La Mode

Thought I would hate this but than this album threw banger after banger at me (this might be nostalgia speaking here). The second half is not nearly as strong though

Not gonna lie, especially after that My Heart Still Beats, I can’t help thinking “Now I see why Beyoncé was pegged as the breakout star. Kelly and Michele are great but Beyoncé is the clear standout. Still, very good album. Would be better if it wasn’t so long, overstays it’s welcome after awhile. But great stuff here, from the hits to B-sides like Emotion. Didn’t know they had joints like that. Honestly, just when I thought the album lost me, the b sides go crazy.

"Survivor" is the third studio album by American girl group Destiny's Child. Prior to the album, group members LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Robinson departed the group and were replaced by Farrah Franklin and Michelle Williams. Of course, the group still retained Beyoncé Knowles who produced and co-wrote almost all the songs on this album. Other producers included Anthony Dent, Damon Elliot, Mark J. Feist, Rob Fusari and Keybeats. The music is R&B/pop incorporating elements of dance, funk and hip hop. The lyrics address dynamics between women, self-esteem, independence and romantic relationships. The album had generally positive reviews and, commercially, hit #1 in the US and UK. The album opens with "Independent Women Part I" which was used and partly written for the movie "Charlie's Angels." A start-stop beat and melody. Strings in the background. Soaring lead and backing vocals. Nice production. It's about empowerment. The lead single "Survivor" was written after a radio station wondered how Destiny's Child is going to survive after two of the three members left. Of course, the real answer is that you have Beyoncé but the girls also address this in this song. Quick beats layered with a hip hop beat. Looped strings. This is a really good song. The guitar riff from Streie Nick's "Edge of Seventeen" carries on throughout "Bootylicious." Complex beats. "Come dance with me tonight. I don't think you're ready for this jelly." They continue to successfully and creatively use samples of two songs in "Nasty." More layered stop-stop abd electronic beats. The melody is a sample of Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It." And, they finish with another melody sample of Baltimore's "Tarzan Boy." You knew a ballad was coming and we get it with a cover of the Robin and Barry Gibb's "Emotion." Acoustic guitar. Finger snapping beat. Strong vocals by Beyoncé as she expresses wanting her man back There is a high level of production with the beats, melodies and vocal arrangements. There are a catchy songs. Very strong lead and backing vocals. It does suffer the cd-era trend and should have been trimmed a bit. Overall, this a solid R&B/pop album of its time. Beyoncé would obviously go on to bigger things but this one is worth a listen if just for their hit songs.

Onhan tämä aikamoinen voimapoppiklassikko! 4/5

Kelly Rowland and Michelle deserve more recognition, imo. Lots of super dancey tracks beyond the well known singles. Not a huge fan of the gospel elements on this one

First ever Beyonce! production is really good. 7/10

I dont think you’re ready for this jelly!! This was awesome! So many classic hits and a couple new finds like Brown Eyes, too! The outro thank you song is so lovely, the sisterhood almost made me tear up. 😢

Genuinely hate this era of pop production. Too loud, Squished and grainy. Stunning opening three songs although it starts to feel bloated after that. 8/10 Important for more than Beyonce

Starts off like a greatest of greatest hits albums but slowly loses impetus even though still a good listen - poptastic perfection at some points

I don't care if you're the whitest goober in the world, you CAN'T NOT (grammar be damned), enjoy the early 2000s bangers from Destiny's Child.

Some songs were hit or miss, but overall I liked it.

Such great sounds. Beyonce is top form here, but the group makes it sound right

Actually a nice diversion from the otherwise very bad or old albums. This is an absolute materpiece of an album compared to what I sometimes get. I jammed to pretty much every song and I knew quite a lot of them. The thing here is that it's not really ABSOLUTELY amazing but it's pretty good on its own. I would give it 3.5 stars but I can't give halves, so I will give it the benefit of the doubt for getting me to bop to most of the songs.

Wow! What a confident stride forward. The harmonies are tight, and the vocals bring a lot of energy. There’s a fierceness that reminds me of TLC’s swagger. The production is sharp and catchy. It feels empowering, with a lot of heart behind the words. The blend of R&B with pop sensibilities works really well.

Very fun to hear something different on here. I think the first half of the album is clearly stronger. All of the mega-hits are in the front of the album. While it's clear from this how talented Beyonce is, I don't think I would have been able to predict how massive her star would become, and how great her solo albums would be if I had only heard this. Would do a 3.5 if possible.

Good stuff, great harmony, solid songwriting, lots of powerful woman theme.

LOT'S OF HIT SONGS THAT ARE CATCHY GREAT RYTHYM AND VOCALS

I was not ready for that jelly

Listened to this twice and feel like there's more I'm missing. I like the voice and general vibe though

Fun, but Beyonce has so much better.

I thought I’d hate this. I did not.

I was at the first show they did as a trio as part of a festival in 2000. I didn’t know who they were at the time, but I remember talking to a friend after their set and saying I thought the woman in the middle was a standout and seemed like she could have a pretty good career in front of her. Seems like I underestimated her a bit.

Great album

The lyrics had little to no relevance for me. I'm very picky with Pop and RnB music. Generally, I really dislike Beyoncés singing voice. And yet: very fun listen, really enjoyed it.

Fine R'n'B Girlpower

This album is a classic for my generation and solidified Destiny’s Child’s lasting impact on music.

It's of course a classic! Legendary songs on here. I thoroughly enjoyed listening in full. Some of the ballady ones aren't my bag. Motivational girl power panache

It wasn't all bangers but was pretty darn good. Can't say I've ever listened to Destiny's Child properly but glad I have now.

I don’t know what it is about their third album, but they seem to be a more focused unit. They’re still having fun like they did on their previous two albums, but they’re having fun making quality music. Not to say their earlier albums weren’t quality, just that this feels like it’s on another level. The biggest flaw here is the unjustified length of the project. Vocals are obviously flawless, but the production is a step up. The structure is better. The arrangements feel unique and original. Just better all around. 4/5

I have tried to listen to the album so many times. Yet I have never got past ‘Fancy’. I have the European CD, but it has all the original songs alongside a few new ones. Songs I had heard before: ‘Independent Woman Part 1’, ‘Survivor’, ‘Bootylicious’, ‘Nasty Girl’, ‘Fancy’ Favourite new songs: ‘Happy Face’, ‘Brown Eyes’, ‘Dangerously in Love’ and especially ‘The Story of Beauty’ I had quite a scathing review written, but instead I’ll take the message of the first part of the album and be positive. The album is more cohesive than many reviews here claim. It transitions from empowerment to upbeat love songs and ends on love ballads. Overall an interesting listen but far too long. I won’t be listening again. 6.5/10

Surprisingly good. Very upbeat and danceable. I give this 4 stars.

Great but it tails off

Iconic girl group. Top tier.

Some good tracks from my childhood (shout out to my sis). Forgot they were so religious!

Some excellent and iconic tracks on here, but also a lot of filler - too long

Первая половина разъеб, последняя с кучей мелодичных лиричных песен мимо меня (они хорошие, но я уже настроился на первую!) Алкоальбом: Космополитен

Heard most of these. At first I thought they were all starting to sound the same but then the back half of the album switched things up.

Great Friday vibes that have me feeling empowered and independent this AM!

When I was in high school, I was really into the classic rock bands, like Led Zeppelin and The Who. I was convinced that I had superior taste because of it. One of my best friends was very into Destiny’s Child, and I used to poke fun at him for the commercial, girly drivel he was listening to. I feel so embarrassed for my younger self. It was a reflection of internalized sexism, a belief that this music was inherently unserious, simply because it wasn’t made for straight, white men. Thankfully, I outgrew that mindset. So many people on this site clearly haven’t, and I think that’s a shame. This is a good album. It’s not the sort of thing that I am apt to listen to, and that’s okay. Sometimes music just might not be FOR you. That doesn’t make it trash.

Muy bonico cantan.

As a 7 year old boy when this album first came out, it's safe to say I missed the boat on my appreciation for Destiny's Child. But hearing it now as an adult I can see the power and influence that this album brought to all women. I wanted to give this album a 5 as it has a really strong start, powerful messaging, and some great songs throughout. But it does feel like it has just a tad too many filler tracks in the middle.

Very nostalgic. I owned this on cassette and used to listen to it walking to school on my Walkman haha. I think if it weren't for that I'd have rated it much lower.

Undoubtedly the album that set Beyoncé, Michelle and Kelly onto divergent paths while remaining tethered for however long it would take, Survivor is the document of a trio not only determined to prove detractors and defectors wrong but to stamp their place in the history books. And, for the majority of the record, that's exactly what they did. A ceaseless run of incredible pop bops characterizes the album's magnetic appeal before it is brought down by balladry that, although understandable in its positioning in the tracklist, threatens to derail Survivor's momentum. But ultimately, given what came afterwards, Destiny's Child proved that they were here to stay; if not together then, in a myriad of ways, forever. Favorites: Independent Women Part 1, Survivor, Bootylicious, Nasty Girl, Fancy, Apple Pie à la Mode, Perfect Man, Independent Women Part 2, Happy Face, Dance With Me, Emotion, Dangerously in Love.

#GIRLPOWER✊

I did enjoy hearing the 3 big hits again. Also enjoyed "Brown Eyes"

This shit slapped front to back. This is tight, colorful, memorable pop + r&b. Stellar. The ultimate compliment i can give an album is the honor of going to its Wikipedia page to see who has production credits on it. They produced the hell out of this album. It’s obviously a Y2K pop album (rimshot snare, the use of a triangle/bell shake, synthetic strings everywhere). But the lead on Perfect Man? That intro to Independant Woman II? Cmoooon this is masterful.

Anapologetically 2000s - plus it's refreshing to listen to music by Beyoncé that was considered great based on its' merit rather than her status. Enjoyed this a lot, will definitely go back.

There’s some filler in the back half which stops in from being wall-to-wall hits, but it gets pretty close. In hindsight you can really appreciate what a seismic impact this album had on the sound of pop music for the decade after it came out. I mean it was huge at the time too, but you can’t really just the size of the impact crater when you’re under the asteroid.

Very fine

This brings me back to my childhood. Everything is so different now –even Beyoncé‘s voice has changed.

Bop after bop.

Banger album, dangerously in love, survivor and independent woman are all great, the rest of the album is just fine though.

Malgré quelques passages sirupeux, arrangements pop convaincants, paroles assertives et interprétation convaincue

So much more enjoyable than a Queen B album. Don't be jelly Beyonce!

So many hits

good r&b album, definitely defining the genre during this time.

Zamn… this bumps. Very well produces and performed

It personifies the struggles of an early 2000s black woman - being independent but still looking for a daddy while still hating on his other woman. I was debating 3 or 4 but then the dangerously in love put it over the edge and the shade of the last song to the two former members of Destinys Child is amazing and makes me laugh.

Poppy and satisfying, with many anthems

Pretty good pop/R&B album. Not much lyrical content through most of the album. Great vocals. Favorite track: Apple Pie À La Mode

Strong first half of the album, the soulful ballads in the second half kind of dragged on and didn't innovate very much (each sounded pretty repetitive). Funny to hear about 20-year-old Beyonce's beef with the previous members of Destiny's Child, resulting in this album.

8 did not know I can enjoy pop music so much. Very pleasant album with a few absolutely hit songs

Yes. it's good. Let's move on.

Great pop album.

Jesus I had no idea about Destiny's Child, and this was a revelation. I feel like a lot of the time I find myself getting ready to be sorta bored by R&B when it comes up, but this was refreshingly energetic

Great!

a true work of art

Good album with some great songs

I’m not going to dispute this albums place on the greatest list. I was there, this thing was huge. All the videos were on all the time. This is the lasting legacy from the Charlie’s Angels movie. 3 incredible bangers right off the top that no one is going to miss off biggest songs of the 2000s. Who among us can claim that? No one. I was ready to hand out a 5 on this one but after Bootylicious the rest of the record is so aggressively mid it’s wild. Also weirdly the next song is Nasty Girl which is hating on other women not wearing a lot of clothes. Such a bizarre heel turn.

I was taken back to being 11 years old and jamming out to this cd on my Walkman, I still love it after all these years

good album. beyonce def did her thing and its impressive. it could be easily 14 tracks than 18. the highs are high and the lows are low. 3.5!

Pop perfection. Intricate rhythms. Enough variation in chord progressions and melodies. Too many ad libs for my taste, but I can live with it. Favorite song: fancy.

Standouts: Independent Women Part I, Survivor, Bootylicious, Emotion, Nasty Girl. 4/5

Bom demais

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Independent women, Survivor, Bootylicious

These three were R&B in the early ‘00’s. Enjoyed listening to the album in its entirety.

albeit a little long, this album makes me feel like a bad bitch

Catchy as hell. I mean, the first three tracks were massive hits and that's because they took/sampled the right beats, put them on repeat, and combined them with some of the best pipes in the business at the time. I love meaningful lyrics and this ain't that (Independent Women and Survivor are well-meaning but a little drivel-y) but you have to tip your hat when Bootylicious and its lyric "I don't think you're ready for this jelly" are now both pop culture mainstays. That's kind of this album in a nutshell - trying to empower women and be some new age feminism, sometimes doing that (The Story of Beauty) and sometimes sounding like juvenile schlock (Apple Pie a la Mode, Sexy Daddy) or even taking down other women (Nasty Girl, Fancy). But the beats are tough to resist. Rock is my thing, and there are rock albums out there that are 5-start despite throwaway lyrics because the music slays. This is close to that. The first third is banger and the middle third holds strong (with a different feel in the upbeat Happy Face and sorrowful Emotion) but the songs dip slightly in the last third. A strong 4, maybe it deserves more.

If this doesn't get you boppin' at least a little you may not actually like music.

Heel erg pop. Maar fantastisch gezongen allemaal.

Wow! This was so much better than j remember. This definitely shaped the genre in the early 2000s

Obviously iconic and era defining, but I’m still not sure about the message. I remember mocking the idea of boasting about “buying my own shoes” back in the day. Listening now the slut shaming of Nasty Gurl caught my attention. Some weird disconnects and/or hypocrisy in play here.

Tijdloos

first time listening have heard independent woman pt 1 survivor bootylicious

Add one star for Brown Eyes...

What’s the opposite of poptimism? Cause I’m seeing a lot of it in these reviews. Listen, I was a fifteen year-old boy when this came out: I scoffed at it. But it’d be stupid to deny this after a listen. It’s just so smooth.

This was really fun and really bounced.

Such a great album. I knew some of the songs from airplay back when it was released, but I hadn't heard the whole album before. This group is fantastic, and Beyoncé is, well...Beyoncé. She is truly in a league by herself.

Einn stór banger frá upphafi til enda, í raun og veru. Ég kom seint á Destiny's Child vagninn en mun seint fara af honum.

sexy daddy a banger indep woman pt II has a not fun intro beat but after that the song HIIIIIIITS

Best Song: Survivor. The perfect head bobbing tempo. The righteousness. The motivation. This is also one of the tracks that takes most advantage of the trio, layering their vocals beautifully. Cut that last 10 seconds though, goddamn. Worst Song: Brown Eyes. Every other track on the album is so uplifting, and then there's this mundane love song in the middle. It's a sweet song, but it doesn't belong at this spot of this album. Overall: This is so good. The three all sound fantastic, even when Beyonce stands out as something else entirely. Listening to this album feels having a squad of ladies behind you reminding you not to take no shit. The beats are early 2000s gold. A beautiful time capsule.

Mooi album, wordt wat veel van hetzelfde na een tijd

Nice pop/hip hop

It is a delicious pop R&B tour. Lots of catchy melodies and beats, with some clear highlights with Survivor, Bootylicious and Dangerously in Love. However, i have no idea what to make of Outra Thank You. I could tolerate maybe 30 seconds of them doting on their bandmates, but holy god... 4 minutes?!??! I'm giving them a pass on this, pretending it wasn't added to the album.

Too bootylicious!

Pretty great harmonies and rhythms. Gets a little repetitive, but enjoyable overall.

Really brings me back to middle school. I'm enjoying how wholesome the themes are, how unwavering in their conviction. Respect. The cheesy orchestral synth sounds don't hold up in my opinion, but beyond that I thought it held up pretty well.

Another banger of an album that was a re-listen.

So many great pop songs on here. Super fun listen.

I obviously owned (and maybe still own?) this CD. The music videos for these are ingrained in my brain. It’s funny listening to this realizing it’s basically a Beyoncé album when I did not even realize that when it came out. The repetition in these songs can get annoying at some points. However according to my rating scale it gets a 4 because Bootylicious and Emotion are songs I could listen to once a week for the rest of my life

This album is certainly a time capsule. R&B has changed a lot since this album was popular, and it's neat to go back and listen to stuff from that era that helped define a sound that has long since passed. At least, it's neat to go back and listen to the good stuff from that era (I'm still angry that I had to listen to that Limp Bizkit album). This album really holds up, both in terms of its music and its messaging. It's packed full of monster hits, but there's also really no filler on the album 4/5

Muy bonico cantan.

Some real chart topping bangers. What a fun time for early 2000s pop & interesting to see the start of Beyoncé & Kelly's career. And let's not forget Charlie's Angels - good times.

What a lot of fun. Hit after hit

Good album, famous tracks, nothing quite like it. Very typical late 90s, early noughties R&B partly because it's so influential. Loose in some areas and very much targeted towards a listener other than myself but nevertheless an icon of the genre.

Pretty classic album with some bangers from the 00s - most of album isn't my flavour but can't deny they are excellent

Iconic

Pretty middle of the road, nice if you like this kind of pop

Some hits. Some cheesys. Fairly good. Would listen again

An R&B classic

Snitched idyls to make an album with powerful track, and the music is pretty good too

First 3 songs are all A* pop songs. Expected the rest of the album to drop off a cliff but surprisingly it didn't and had some actually good tunes. It's a collection of individual songs rather than an album but on the other hand I feel this is where Beyonce's superstardom started and it does have a star is born feeling. I'm waffling as i'm hesitant to give this a 4 but on the power of the first 3 songs I'm gonna do it.

Bangers off the top. The later songs get a bit much but still a great listen

Iconic.

Now here are the kind of albums I’m wanting to see on this list! Three bangers right out the gate and then a bunch of R/B greatness. Awesome album.

The entire album is produced to perfection, the best sounding R&B with infectious rhythms and top class vocal performances by Beyonce and the entire group’s harmonies. The quality of the songs significantly dips in the second half, but overall, great album!

Great and enjoyable pop/r&b album. Couple of big hits, couple of other higher tempo songs, albeit a bit too long

Kind of fun.

Decent nostalgia factor but doesn’t hold up particularly well

Highlights: Independent Women, (Part 1), Survivor, Bootylicious. 3.8

This is a genre I don't really listen too a lot but the first half caught me by surprise and was really good. Unfortunately the second half could not keep up the momentum. 5/10

Pari isompaa tuttua hittiä, mutta muuten kappaleet oli niin kovin samanlaisia. Throwback RnB poppia. Parhaat: Independent Women Pt.1, Survivor

Some good old classics here ! Nice hip-hop and some more soul songs towards the end.

Hmmm. Interesting factoid about bootylicious being used in yesterday's offering from Dr dre

Its funny how songs like Independent Women Pt.1 get released as part of a movie release like Charlie's Angels. And this gives a band some serious exposure. Then the song is huge. But when the movie goes, so does the song. With Independent Women the song has far outlasted the movie. To the extent that I forgot that the actresses get a name check at the start. This is a classic late 90s early 2000s girl RnB/Gospel album. The RnB is all synth instruments and harmonies. But the vocals are just stunning as shown in the cover of "Emotion". You could absolutely tell that one or more of these ladies were destined for music greatness. As it turned out it was Beyonce. (2.800)

If the album had stopped after the 5 first tracks, it would be an instant 5 star. However, that was only the first third of the album. There are some good tracks scattered throughout, but an hour is too much.

Good group, but not my vibe.

Some real bangers on here

Bootilicious

Funky ahh R&B album super fun and captures a nice 90s vibe, 3.5 (3) stars.

Better than the average

Thankfully I felt that I was ready for this brand and quantity of jelly. There can't be many artists featured here who have had a word added to the Oxford English Dictionary in their honour. They deserve every bit of that.

It’s funny how quickly this album falls off. First three tracks are all time classics. After that, the songs are fine.

Sure, why not

I knew more songs than an I thought. A decent album

Best Track - "Survivor"

First two songs were good but the rest not for me

hit after hit but then the hits stop!

Pretty good, better than I expected
