Reviews (page 4 of 7)

Didn't hate it - a couple good tracks but kinda samey throughout and not all songs hit.

Not as heavy as I would have liked but enjoyable…

Перкусионка на отдельных треках заставляла меня джемить сильнее трэшевых гитар, которым тут тоже место нашлось с лихвой. Жаль, что она не на всём альбоме, тогда б спот в моём плейлисте был бы занят смело.

This was odd. Felt like it was somewhere between Ween and the Vandals, but glam rocky? Mostly just okay for me but did enjoy "The Age of Pamparius" and "Don't Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker"

Je commenterai pas sur le nom, par contre, le turbo est approprié, ils rockent en turbo

Would be 50% with no lyrics. 2.5/5

Really unexpected and pretty good album.

Loud and relatively obnoxious. 2.8/5

Norwegian Rock Band - hard rock with some punk influence. I like the sound but the Norwegians have included enough phallic references I wonder if a middle schooler assisted with the lyrics. Overall, I enjoy the listen/tone.

Fun album that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Everything about this band looks and sounds like an edgy twelve-year-old boy's imagination of what a punk band is. This is kind of impressive and interesting, but most of all very amusing. The lyrics are even more hilarious to me when I pretend that some magically aged up pre-teens are singing them. 2/5 music, 4/5 entertainment

Not my cup of tea

The album is nice. I really liked the music, not so much the voice. Too punk for me.

Pretty good album, good sound and catchy tunes. But a lot of cursing? That's punk rock though I guess

Day 66 I didn’t hate this as big dumb rock music but nothing massively stood out and I doubt it’s one I’d come back to at all 6/10 Highlights The Age Of Pamparius Get it on

Short, fast, loud candidates. Not bad.

Well this list is full of unknown bands, which is good in a way. Well I like the production and the energy of the album but the highlight is obviously the hilarious lyrics. It's a good album, but why is it on the list? How influential is it? 3/5

Pretty good standard rock tunes. Never heard of these guys but it was a decent discovery.

It was promising. And then I was really happy to move on to Led Zeppelin.

Du bon rock sympa avec des instrus cool et variées même si les sons se ressemblent quand même pas mal dans l'ensemble. Une bonne écoute mais pas sûre que j'y reviendrai.

C’est sympa mais je risque d’oublier..

This has its moments, but mostly it's just pretty standard 90s punk, puerile shock-baiting and all.

What if The Hives, but sweary? Seem to be getting a lot of punk-adjacent albums recently, which is not a bad thing.

Norwegian hair metal/glam rock. Surprisingly good!

non riesco a valutare perché alcune tracce mi sono piaciute molto e altre invece non riuscivo proprio a sentirle, metto un 3 ma dovrei rivalutarlo con più calma

I usually don’t like to google the band/album before writing the review but I had to find out why the band was named “turbonegro”. Turns out it was between “Nazipenis” and “turbonegro” and they decided turbonegro was more commercially viable. To quote Jonah Hill in SuperBad - “why the fuck was it between Nazipenis and Turbonegro?” Anyway pretty fun album, kind of hair metal- Norwegian punk I guess? Would listen agan

A funny and overall enjoyable listen.

Not bad! 3.5/5

5 or 6 road trip worthy tunes - when the coffee well has run dry. The Hives energy meets Kiss glam guitar as advertised.

The first track sounded kinda like The Who meets Jane's Addiction meets Faith No More. Pretty fun goofy stuff, though. I kinda liked it.

The opening 30 seconds of track 1 had me excited, it was as good an opening as I'd heard. And then, it just flopped. It was still a nice album, some pretty good tracks, but also plenty of filler.

I liked a lot of what I heard, but I'm not really into taking a deep dive here with my current mood. Note to self: revisit.

I didn't expect much regarding lyricism; therefore, I was not disappointed. As a fan of the Hives, Turbonegro crawled so The Hives could run

Full throated, straight-up hard rock. Fun for a bit but rather lacking in nuance or variety - pretty "one note."

New to me, pu k vibes with heavy metal inspiration as well as cribbed classical themes sprinkled in sometimes.

Their fourth album. Punk / Hard Rock. I actually found the music quite catchy and fun. Love the energy. Lyrically though, I've absolutely no fucking idea what they're on about ! Ha Ha ! Something about ass, mother fuckers and blowjobs.

Not terrible. Mostly direction-less. Random thoughts and loud music.

Not my thing but ok.

Pretty good

dog this band is WHITE

Pretty fun and energetic album — this stuff probably shines live.

low 3 nothing wrong with this at all. i never know if im going to be into this kind of thing. why do i love the black parade but not this? i dont know. maybe its because ive been listening to leonard cohen exclusively for the last few days

If I don't listen too carefully this album rocks.

Wenn man mal laute E-Gitarren braucht, gut zum abreagieren.

Does exactly what it says on the tin, fizzy, stupid glam punk, which is fun while it's on but I highly doubt it will leave any lasting impression

I didn't expect I'd like this going in and reading the description on Wikipedia. But... I was mildy entertained and thought it was a good listen. 3/5

This is pretty good. Don't feel like I wasted my time listening to it twice. It's straight ahead rock stuff by some Baltic folk that listened to a lot of Ramones and probably a bunch of 80's metal. All around the music is good, driving Rock n Roll. The singing isn't bad. No awards for it, but nothing annoying and it fits what they're doing. I don't imagine I'll listen to this more than... one more time in my life when something reminds me of it. But it's fun. 3.5 stars really, but gotta give whole stars here and it's really not ever going to be a 4-star, let's listen to this again and again album.

I was skeptical in the beginning, but as the album marched on I found that some of it ripped. Pretty good late 90s punk/pop punk.

Good punk album debut, not their best

Pretty good hardcore album

Never heard them before… Not too shabby

It was aight

“Time to pay the piper, time to put on your diaper…” High quality lyrical prowess…

Fun, fast music.

I liked it. Nice 80/90s style punk.

Pretty fun, raunchy punk rock n’ roll. Look up Queens of The Stone Age’s cover of “Back to Dungaree High” with Nick Oliveri on vocals.

Never heard of this band so well done the 1001 Gods for introducing them to me. It was a bit of a revelation and could hear that they were attempting to produce something different. Not to my own personal taste and not something I would buy but happy to have been enlightened. 3/5 9/8/25

Holy crap; I actually discovered something that I like that I would never have heard before. It's the garage punkiness of The White Stripes or The Strokes, but fun like The Darkness.

This album is such a tease. It starts off in this really cool way and feels epic with the guitar riffs, but then the vocals and lyrics make it pretty mediocre. And the music is just various of the same sounding stuff over the course of a 50-minute album, which makes it get stale. I'll probably just go with a mid-3 here. Not one I'm looking to listen to again in the near future.

This whole album sounds like it should be on a Tony Hawk soundtrack.

Much better than I expected at first glance but I expected very little.

Fun really, isn’t it?

Favorite Track: The Age Of Pamparius

The Norwegian Ramones (albeit with a 13 year-old's vocabulary), who knew?! 😅

I begrudgingly like this. Every track I was ready to write off, another band trying to sound like their favorite rockers. I can't place what made this much more endearing. Recommended for early 90s hair metal fans.

Decent, but nothing special.

Standouts The Age of Pamparius

3/5 decent punk ish metal

Good fun if a little hollow

As such, the idea of denim-clad Scandinavians playing very much into a "we're gay hard rockers" image, stereotype, and story seems a bit dated now. But. Back in the mid 90s, when this band gained traction, it was... Maybe not liberating, but a sort of bold statement in the rock world, which was still fairly homophobic at the time (this was before eg Rob Halford came out). As such, though, the novelty factor of back then has become a kind of "you had to be there to get it" situation. Like... The singer used to launch fireworks from his ass during gigs. Still... I hadn't listened to any Turbonegro in over 11 years before this (thanks, last.fm) and I would have expected it to have aged way worse than it has. It's still good fun, partly because it's just so on the nose all the way through.

Reading the names of the track list, I figured this was going to be hard to get through. I’ve listened to worse (ie MSI). Some of the songs were a slog like Good Head but there were some things I liked, especially if you were not paying attention to the lack of lyrical prowess.

Lyrics were terrible but some catchy AF riffs and great guitar.

I quite enjoyed this bit of punk but ai listened to some of their other albums and they all sound the same.

An interesting blend of glam rock and punk. The music was pretty good but the vocals and lyrics were too goofy and sophomoric for me (and I am goofy and sophomoric almost always). I give them some credit for doing this in their non-native language, and I assume they belive they are being edgy, but it gives the vibes of a rebellious 11 year old who learned all the bad language he could absorb at a sleep over at a friend who has a college aged brother. These guys clearly loved Kiss and The Ramones and they blended those styles and genres pretty well. I probably would have like this album a bit more if they sung in Norwegian and I didn't know what they were saying. 5.8/10 94/1001

Soso punkish stuff.

This one surprised me a bit. It's got some elements of punk, some 90s alternative rock, and some experimental sounds. The vocals can be a bit uncomfortable at times, but the energy is always on. Reminds me of some punk records I enjoy, such as the Misfits. I'd say I like this one a good bit.

Fun, kind of brainless (by design) rock 'n' roll.

Not sure if it's brilliantly stupid, or just stupid, so splitting the difference.

Interesting to get this album soon after getting the Dandy Warhols. Both are late 90's albums that playfully mingle very established rock styles. But this one seems too formulaic and too reliant on just being "loud" or whatever.

noticeable lack of negroes in this band but i digress. just by looking at the song titles i already like this. here's quote that i found on their bands wikipedia that i really like: "Initially, the band had two running ideas for band names: Nazipenis and Turbonegro. They were advised that a band named Nazipenis would never sell records, so they chose Turbonegro as a more consumer-friendly choice." unfortunately underwhelming </3

Really dumb but kinda loved it. Cant really place it but the vocals remind me of very contemporary music. I think Kurt Vile? Somewhere between a 3 and 4. Going to be conservative but I think these guys may grow on me.

Dumb but fun. Nothing wrong w that. Rock against ass!

When I saw the name and cover art, I was preparing for a Korn like experience. Much better listen than that The album kicking off with The Age Of Pamparius got me going and I stayed high for about 30 mins. Good Head was a fantastic finish 😆

Forgettable but okay rock music.

It’s fun. They can play. It’s goofy. But some nice riffs. 3.4 stars.

This reminded me a lot of the Rocket From The Crypt album we listened to. This is fun and has good energy. I will probably revisit. Favorite songs were The Age Of Pamparius, Get It On, and Prince Of The Rodeo.

Listens: 2.5 Standout Tracks: Are You Ready (For Some Darkness), The Age Of Pamparius Good guitar shredding on this album. Not quite heavy metal but close and more palatable as a result. The first track, at the 1:30 mark reminds me a lot of the The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again". The band name was an eyebrow raiser for me. I did not know what to expect when I put the album on. I recognize that the word negro in other cultures and languages mean other things (namely, the color black), but it was still... surprising to see such a band name. I wonder where the band name originates from . Fortunately, there doesn't appear to be any racist lyrics as far as I can tell. Overall, I enjoyed it more than not. 3.5

Generelt et kult rockealbum. Står isje ekstremt ud, men alt e bra+. Kult at bandet e norsk🤩🤩

Haha, well… that was something. If I had been 16 and recorded this I would be quite proud of it. There are some catchy tunes. Not something you’d generally want to be sounding like once you’ve left your teens though

it was okay, generic rock. love the bandname tho

fast and loud and fun. I listened to this while I did some animation work. PRINCE OF THE RODEO rips. I think I consume punk like how the rest of the world consumes pop. I either like it or I don't but it's pretty easy for me to conclude and it's not a precious decision. I like how this band is taking the piss out of a music scene that was largely homophobic at the time. It overstays it's welcome at nearly a 60 min runtime. Would be much stronger if was somewhere between 40-45 for me straightforward music by a purposely obnoxious band that probably only annoys people that take them too seriously. They have an album called Ass Cobra Its a 3 for me, maybe be a 4 if it was shorter and more focused.

\\m// Fun Rock n Roll album. pretty enjoyable from start to finish \\m//

Seemed kind of repetitive, but I liked some of the songs

You what’s better than snatch. Good head.

hi it’s Jess this is a test I only listened to the first song yesterday but it was cool and I liked how they talked about pizza pie at the end

Ну такое, не слушаю такой стиль.

Fun for a while

Good energy

2.5, rounded up

Classic rock that isn’t classic rock. Pretty surprised by this one though became a little redundant by the end

It was nice, but it felt like it dragged after a while.

Klingt wie "Kommt mir bekannt vor" oder auch "Wilde Mischung". Egal, besser gut zusammengeschustert als schlecht selbst gemacht.

Fairly punchy, but also pretty comfy. Not so out there it's impossible to listen to.

Fun record. Will come back to this!

This is more my speed. Feels like a evolutionary step between early indie, pop punk, heading towards lo Fi and the 70s rock revival that is around the corner. The Bowie cover is okay, falls prey to what most covers do, it's not distinct enough to be interesting.

Good album. I’d give it a 4 if not for the coarse language. I’m not above swearing myself but I think a lot of bands believe it makes them edgy. It doesn’t. It’s the easy way out lyrically in my view.

Hard rock but not too bad

Never listened before and was pleasantly surprised. I will investigate this band and album further.

average

Pretty cool. "Turbonegro" is a great name for a band and I like the meaning that it has within their discography. "Apocalypse Dudes" is an equally badass name. Punk is yet another one of the genres that I am woefully uneducated in. It's hard for me to single out any of the moments on this album that may or may not be exceptional, though I imagine most of it is very by-the-numbers for a late 90s punk album, just with some europoor nonsense on the vocals. There are some pretty good creative choices in here. I like the hard rock influence. Same goes for the metal guitar riffs that are peppered throughout. I imagine that this approach is very unique for a punk album. "Age of Panparius" is where I think the "everything and the kitchen sink" approach works best, especially with that random jingle that occurs near the end of the song and the fake-out acoustic guitar at the beginning of the song. This album is way longer than it needed to be, which is where it loses points. The "long songs" on this album surprisingly aren't the issue, as I think they stand as the best on the album. It's the shorter, more indistinct tracks that I think blur together and overlap with one another. The vocal performances are also pretty uninspiring. The main guitar riff at the beginning of "Humiliation Street" is very familiar. It's reminiscent of the bass guitar on "The Less I Know The Better" by Tame Impala, though I'm confident that I've heard it before. Good song. I'm curious to see why this album is in the book. Let's see. A lot of instruments. A bunch of underground artists I've never heard of created a tribute album by the name of "Alpha Motherfuckers". The vocalist of Dead Kennedys likes Turbonegro. Can't knock the inclusion - these guys have definitely earned their stripes.

I'm pleased to see Norwegian music represented, and this was good fun...but nothing more. I'm sure Norway has more deserving artists.

Rock Against Ass. Don’t Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker. Rendezvous with Anus. The songs were okay but these guys are great at titles that’s for sure.

3 out of 5. Musically this is a tight effort though it comes off a little bland.

So torn on whether to give this 3 or 4 stars. Admittedly, I am enjoying it more than many others I have given 3. However, a requirement for 4 is that I would add it to my library to listen to regularly, and don't think I would do that. It's a solid 3.5 on my scale for sure...

The guitar riffs were fun as were the drums ... I really don't want to hurt my 90s decade rating any further ... Ugh!

Wasn't actually too bad, a bit too thrashy for my tastes but not horrible.

Groupe inconnu, qui fait un rock énergique agréable à écouter, même s’il n’est pas très novateur. Il ne rejoindra pas ma collection, mais je prendrais plaisir à l’écouter de nouveau. => 3/5

Not sure if I like every song but the hype energy was sick and fun to listen to thru the day and super good for boosting morale while doing work

They had more fun recording than I had listening Ending with a Bowie cover puts the rest of the album in perspective unflatteringly Probably a lot of fun live

Interesting, never heard of this band. These guys are rocking. Pretty cool stuff.

Pretty good moments but largely unforgettable.

It's okayish, loud, accessible. But whatever message it might have is drowned under the music.

Some pretty great playing and style is let down with lackluster songwriting. This has the font of something I'd be into

Torn whether to rate a three or four as I'd put it somewhere between. Definitely the type of music I enjoy, and will listen to most of this album again most likely, but it also all sort of blurred into each other for me. There wasn't necessarily a stand out song on the album and I kind of felt equally about it the whole way through. The first song felt like a solid opener, but also perhaps went on a bit longer than it really needed to and got a bit repetitive at some point. Humiliation Street was a good and much needed change of pace and thus stood out the most as an individual song.

I was transported right back in guitar hero 3 days. This is hard rock at its absolute core. Conversely, there really wasn't anything unique about it but certainly did a good job writing and playing a bunch of good rock songs.

Not bad. Would need to have multiple listens to see if I’d get into it.

There were some solid riffs. The lyrics were… I want to blame the second language issue (and I can’t rock out in a second language), but the actual intent of the words seem dumb. The themes are stupid, and that’s not a translation thing. Still, the music had some good moments, and it was all fun. I’m quite sure I didn’t need to listen to this before the eternal slumber, but I don’t really regret it either.

This album was fun. It was like if Glam Rock combined with punk. It was cool. The lyrics were nothing spectacular (at times silly..."Rendezvous With Anus") but the rhythms were a lot of fun and the solos were crazy. I enjoyed myself but this didn't really do anything special for me. Also..."Suffragette City" is one of, if not my absolute favorite, David Bowie song and this version was just not good... Liked Songs: "The Age Of Pamparius" , "Selfdestructo Bust" , "Rock Against Ass" , "Rendezvous With Anus" , "Zillion Dollar Sadist" , "Prince Of The Rodeo" , "Back To Dungaree High" , "Humiliation Street"

liked songs: The Age Of Pamparius, Get It On, most of the rest A strong start musically to the album nearly ruined by god-awful lyrics ("motherfucking pizza tonight"? really?). I really wish there was an instrumental version of this album. All of the songs are well-written and have great energy. The lyrics are just... troglodyte-tier garbage. The vocal performance isn't much better than the lyrical content, either. As an aside, I don't know why so many punk acts seem to think you're not allowed to have a good vocalist to make punk music. Is that the Ramones fault? 3.5

I liked it more than I expected. Everything but the vocals sounded great. Just couldn’t really get into it because of that but at least it was better than I thought it would be!

The beginning of this album is good, like, really good. Just purely optimized to be as fun as possible and nothing else, which I appreciate. Fantastic loud, fast-paced, headbanging riffs and exciting vocal. But after that, Apocalypse Dudes just doesn't go anywhere else. The rest of the album is more of the same but a little worse: less energetic, less engaging. It just becomes stale and monotonous after a while. I still liked all the songs here, but the album had set my exceptions way too high in the beginning and then delivered something that's still good but slightly worse than what I was promised. 7/10

Fun glam punk! There were some songs on here that I really thought were fun and catchy. I really liked the opening track in particular, ‘The Age of Pamparius’. 3.5/5

note sure why this wasn't rated... but overall i liked this! i kinda of remembered it, but overall it was a good sound. the lead singer probably knocks it down to a 3, because i am not a huge fan of that singing style, but this band rocks

I like the general style, but it got old after a while. Sort of between a 2 and 3 stars, but I’m feeling kind today.

A nice little change up. It was fun for a bit then kinda started to run together. I just love how Iceland/Scandinavian countries are known for metal/punk rock bands which just seems so out of place in meeting their people.

I actually enjoyed it a lot for what it was. Goofy, but fun to listen to. The silliness didn’t detract from this one like it has from a lot of albums we’ve listened to.

Yeah this album is pretty good, but it's just not part of my preferred styles.

I wouldn't listen to this all day, but that's what I call a cool hard rock album when you feel to crack a budweiser. I love the overall energy of their music.

Yeah, it's a bit juvenile. Or a lot. If you don't listen to the lyrics or think too hard, it's not baaaad.

Interesting to listen to. Raw. A throw back, definitely.

This was another one that was hard for me to listen to without comparing or seeing it through the lens of all the music I've listened to. Like there were so many better punk acts even at that time so I'm not sure I really get it. But anyways, there were some great guitar parts and a few of the songs established a good groove. The lyrics and singing were very punk (but that didn't make them interesting and not super repetitive). Anyways, had to give it a 3 for the instrumentals, but overall wouldn't listen to again (would go to a show though, would probably be a vibe). Most overall successful song was Get it On.

This band and album were completely new to me. I didn't find this to be particularly monumental, but I DID enjoy it quite a bit. Their particular fusion of punk with glam rock made this super palatable to me. The album has a strong opening with its first track and the music managed to keep a hold throughout the duration of the album.

Hoy toca banda que recuerdo más de nombre que de haber escuchado a consciencia. Se lo siente glam, rockerazo y bien arriba, con algunos toques stoner. Sirve para combatir el tedio. Hasta mañana.

This was actually decent. Not sure if I would listen again

3.5 stars. Norwegian glam rock. Reminiscent of The Darkness (not quite as goofy and falsetto though) with the over the top vulgar/silly lyrics and The Offspring (especially "Good Head" with the 'whooaaa' and 'yeaaahh's) heavier musically.

Can confirm, this would be fun to listen to in a boat. Or even not in a boat.

not as bad as i thought it would be

Pretty surprised by this. It was pretty entertaining and the guitar work is really strong.

This album gets an extra star for being from a different country outside of UK & USA - the music was was ok but not amazing. Not the best example of Punk Rock from this time period, and I don't think I'll be back for more, but I'm glad to have listened to something I probably never would have heard of without this list. I love me some punk music, and mix it with some rock even better, I even love a bit of infantile humour and lyrics - but this was just a bit lame and boring. This list is severely lacking in the punk department - I'd be swapping this out for NOFX from a similar time period - I'm all for hidden gems but this album isn't it!

Day375 - i’m glad that there’s albums from different genres and from different countries cause i wouldn’t have ever listened to this and it was fun

Digging The Age of Pamparius and Are you Ready for the Darkness.

Best Song: Prince of the Rodeo. The guitar work and overall pace of the track was great, and what I had hoped would be the standard from the rest of the album. Worst Song: Rock Against Ass. Proof that a song can be torched simply for having stupid lyrics. Overall: Decent punk that sounds every bit as old as it is.

Who would've thought a couple Norwegians would be one of those keeping alive the high octane rock genre. High energy, motorcycle through the desert kinda rock. They definitely give off Motorhead and a bit of The Stooges

hard rock cool guitar rifts not for me

Strong guitar power chords, the solos aren’t bad either. This is bachelor rock, or rebellious teenager rock. If your favorite shows are/were Jackass or Viva La Bam then it’s likely that this music was also your jam. It’s frankly not terrible, but it is over saturated with testosterone.

for how good all the instruments are these vocals would've been better if a just toddler just scribbled on a piece of paper and they attempted to sing that.

Pretty generic rock songs with a couple bangers.

Not bad

Stupid, goofy and fun late 90s punk(?). Gave off the same vibe as Andrew WK - this is a band that doesn’t take itself super seriously.

Prince of the Rodeo (f*ck yeah!!). Mad I hadn’t heard this much sooner

Surprised I’ve never heard of them before. Jane’s addiction adjacent but liked them more. Ended up downloading the album which is more than I can say for a lot of 1001

Apocalypse Dudes is a pretty badass title, and this album lives up to that expectation. The opener rocks and it just takes off from there. Typically I try to listen to each album on the home stereo, but this one got blasted in the car and it turned out to be an excellent album for highway driving. I will say, by the end, I was thankful. I couldn’t keep doing that style/sound for much longer, it would’ve gotten stale. But it’s a fantastic rock/punk album, these guys were a lot more talented than I anticipated. 3 stars, almost 4.

Fun, good energy and guitars. Standout songs: Humiliation Street Are you Ready (For some Darkness)

Simple, loud and not very inspiring, yet quite enjoyable.

Decent

I was expecting an album, that would be hard to listen to because punk is just not my genre. But I found it listenable. Guitar is saving the day. While rhythm section is quite punky and the singer is trying hard to be punk.

Something I had never heard before, and I liked it. Very silly song names like many other punk bands do, even if some might see it as being immature. But that to me is quintessential punk.

This was interesting. I liked most of it. Some of it was weird. Glad no one asked me what I was listening to.

I don’t remember these guys at all but not bad

I don’t think I will remember any of these songs. Not that they are bad, just when looking back, there were other bands of similar ilk that I liked better and will go back to.

It's ok but considering we're talking about late 90s here it's really taking this Rock genre a long time to make it to Scandinavia.

Started off sounding fun but got old really quickly

Nothing great about it- but they rock and I like that.

That was stupid as crap, but the guitars were pretty nice. Best song: Are You Ready (For Some Darkness)

That was weird

A pretty good album, my favorite song was Age of Pamparius.

They were very popular with the northwestern European rock festival crowd. Always lots of people in turbo jugend uniforms (their fanclub). They were tight and loud with a good show. And naughty. That being said, on the record, the lyrics sound very childish. The music is alright, but not groundbreaking. There weren't too many bands like this when they were around, but there had been before. Like a blend of Motorhead and the Ramones. Favorite song: prince of the rodeo

2.5/5. Meh. I found this to be pretty boring. The music is not that bad, fortunately.

This is a weird mix of genres. While interesting, it didn't really work for me. This was an ok record.

This was a weird one. I liked it okay, but there are better versions of everything they're doing on here out there. It's cool that they're not US or UK based, but that doesn't make it good just because of that.

3 pizzas out of 5 I guess it’s interesting that I was reading about Norwegian bands on RYM (almost all black metal bands, which might suggest tunnel vision on RYM’s part), right before getting a-ha and Turbonegro in the same week. I can appreciate the former’s contribution to music much more than the latter, since it’s basically a copycat of a few 70s punk albums, with some 80s hardcore & hair metal thrown in. One of these influences is not like the other… HL: “Humiliation St”, “The Age of Pamparius”, “Prince of the Rodeo” Later on November 1, 2024

Hop on your skateboard and cause some property damage! This reminds me of all the dickhead skaters I knew who idolized CKY and so on, but its still pretty enjoyable grimy rock. Will I listen to it again? Probably not, but it was fun while it lasted.

Totally fine straight up rock and roll. 🤘 with songs like “Rendezvous with Anus” you can’t miss!

This is a fun hard rock listen. Lots of youthful energy, plenty of power chords and plenty of teenage fun time lyrics. 3 stars

Ticks all the punk boxes: offensive, loud, sarcastic, obnoxious.

Competent but uninspired 3.3

Norwegian punk goes glam-rock.

Not great! I can't say I hated listening to it though.

Liked it more than I thought I would

Not legendary but riffs are worth

Dirty dirty glampunk

Favorite Track: Monkey On Your Back

This would’ve been right up my street back in the day! Kinda remind me of a less serious, tongue-in-cheek version of Rocket From the Crypt or Hot Snakes. Thats in a good way too, they arent novelty despite their song names and lyrics. Aye theyre pretty daft, but music wise it all works. Hard/heavy pop punk. Canny. Cant see me being back often but a strong 3.5

It’s a little obnoxious sometimes. Kinda cool sometimes. I dunno not really doing it for me.

Shouty grungey stuff. Thought 1 or 2 sounded familiar and then read that a couple of songs were featured in Jackass

Music great. Lyrics whack. I would have loved this as a kid though.

Some good songs on here, but overall kind of a generic pop punk sound

These guys sound like A, but with more swearing. They're not terrible.

I tried really hard to not like this album but failed miserably. Not my style and not terribly original but very well done and fun.

As far as I know I've never heard of Turbonegro, nor heard anything from this album, a nice exposure to a late 90s album. They've definitely got a serious retro rock vibe going (maybe a bit metal? apparently punk roots too), which is kind of fun, and they're a pretty tight band. I'm not sure there are any really notable songs in the album (even their bonus track "Suffragette city" cover is kind of nondescript), but it's kind of a fun throwback listen, especially if you're out on the open road (which I wasn't). And based on other albums like this in the 1001 albums, I rightly guessed that they aren't American (Norwegian, it turns out), but clearly want to revive that later 80s very American rockin' sound. And they do it pretty well, I'd say. I'm not sure it necessarily deserves inclusion in the 1001-albums collection, but then again that's probably true of a lot of the albums.

Grinding guitars on the earlier tracks reminded me of Jay Reatard--this album seems to be a mostly successful punk | rock | glam hybrid with a bit of a downgrade for some truly juvenile lyrics.

It’s like Rancid almost? Nothing special about it that pulled me in though

Not on Spotify

I don’t know if my rating is an actual rating of this album or just the fact that I’m rocked out. Over 200 albums and it’s been 90% rock lol at some point it all starts sounding the same. This album is cool but it sounds like the last several albums I’ve listened to in the past week.

So I know Turbonegro a bit from some of their better-known songs in the few years after this, and I know what I'm getting into before listening to Apocalypse Dudes, and it doesn't disappoint. They are...not good lyrically, which is being polite, but I also don't care? :D The guitars go fucking HARD and it's a proper fun, energetic listen that I can get hyped to in the right moment, a nice mix of glam and metal and driving hard rock, can't go wrong with that. It's a high 3 for sure, maybe a low 4 because it's a riot of a listen right up my street, scoring highly for guitarmanship and low for immaturity. Probably not a 4 really.

A strange combination of absolutely dreadful lyrics and quite fun punk driving rhythms (actually, it's not that unusual, is it?). It's good if you don't really listen to it, but it's basically what a 12 year old me would've thought was edgy and cool. 'Anus'! 3/5.

This album's not bad but nothing really stands out enough for it to ever be memorable to me. I mean, the last track is called Good Head, and I can get that pretty much anywhere...

Kept 3 tunes

I’ve heard a couple of their songs (not on this album) and I like the music but not the singer/lyrics as much.

Was not sure what to expect but ended up enjoying it. Might add to workout playlist

Better than expected and I kind of dug them. Where they anything revolutionary, not in today's world but I would listen again. One criticism is i didn't feel like they always had a lot of emotion and feeling behind their lyrics. Not bad, just not passion.

Solid rawk'n. Except why are we rocking against ass? I like asses. It would be hard to sit without them. I liked Prince of the Rodeo, and Back to Dungaree High. Good Head was fun while it lasted but sorta petered out. My criticism of this album is that it's not that creative. Kind of repetitive but kudos for keeping up the energy. Yes, they rawk. Yes, they have fun energy but this album is kinda like a one night stand for me. Fun while it lasted but probably not anything I would come back to once I've heard it.

Kind of dumb but not the worst thing to listen to when I was at the gym and doing work in the office. Also I was the number one listener of Turbonegro on Airbuds at some point so that counts for something.

Not usually into this sort of stuff but this really wasn't that bad

gonna make some motherfucking pizza tonight

Ret underholdende men også ret forgettable for mig

Ustandselig energi! Det er pænt dumt, men fede riffs og fede soloer.

Imagine this is your favourite album and when people ask what your favourite album is you have to say it's by "Turbonegro" and features songs like "Rendezvous with Anus" and "Rock Against Ass"... couldn't be me

fun metal album

A high octane album from Turbonegro for their fourth outing. Moving away from their hardcore punk sound into a slightly more produced hard rock/electronica sound that still wouldn't sound out of place on any Tony Hawk video game. Best: Age of Pamparius Worst: Humiliation Street

I mean, it’s no one’s favorite album, but it’s fun.

Enjoyable enough

Fun and great energy

Started well enough, but played themselves down.

It was kinda fun.

I quite enjoyed this. Good in short bursts, probably best for as long as it takes to skateboard down a 32bit airport. I like the European take on things sometimes, they seem to come at things from a different angle and don’t play by the normal UK/US rules. But not what I’d listen to by choice and I don’t think I’ll ever listen to these guys again.

Do you like *dumb* rock? Do I have an album for you!

Rock efficace au début, mais un peu redondant et qui trahit son âge à la longue. Plus le nom et la posture des musiciens me met mal à l'aise...

Very mediocre. Can't see what's special about this at all.

6.5/10

high energy hard rock/punk with some guitar solos and dark lyrical subject matter. Topically understand the inclusion, but that offsets my score.

The band itself can play, but you listen to the lyrics, and you just can't tell how sarcastic these guys are trying to be. Wikipedia has a description of them as: "Radio Birdman meets Venom in an institution for sexually abused r****ds." And I mean... I guess that's a good description. Punk isn't always super-serious, there's a lot of tongue-in-cheek. But when you got a song called "Rock Against Ass," you're obviously going for the 12-year olds (fortunately I've been called that by my wife on a perpetual basis. But I digress...). Still, they do a damn good cover of "Suffragette City." And I am pretty sure they're in on the joke of it all. Top tracks: "Monkey On Your Back," "The Age Of Pomparius," "Prince Of The Rodeo"

Constant energy, which I appreciate. Started to feel a bit monotonous though.

The last song that was a cover was the best song. Was fun at first but got old quick

I mean this was kind of fun. I didn't dislike it but it was kind of bland and samey.

3.9. liked it

fast paced and high energy power rock. it has a very pop-esque sound, but with vulgar lyrics like these i'm not too sure i would call THOSE pop. i feel like this is the hard kind of rock that your older brother would listen to growing up, if you had an older brother. they don't fucking give a fuck motherfucker!! shit!! the energy and the instrumentals i like, but most of the lyrical content is... yeah it's not my forte. it's like middle schoolers wrote the lyrics. one song they literally go "anus! anus!!"

Seriously fun hard rock. 3.5/5

A blast of Scandianavian rock. This band were signalling the soon to be explosion of garage rock that was about to happen with the arrival of The Strokes and The White Stripes. They're not doing anything special (though the song titles are great), but you can't knock the fun factor. Grab a pint of snakebite and get moshing. Best Tracks: The Age of Pamparius; Get It On; Prince of the Rodeo

In a word of Steel Panther, they are meh

Felt like I opened up a Tony Hawk game. It was ok, kinda repetitive. There was one part where it was like a school bell, i thought that was hard

Energetic punk rock from the late 1990s by the Norwegian band Turbonegro, I liked the rawness of this album, musically, but the silly lyrics was really too much. As if it was written by 12-year old teenagers who want to provoke their parents with those swear words. Should be a 2 but I round it up to 3 because some of the songs were really catchy and fun.

Not really my thing.

I was expecting some real dark Scando Metal but got this odd hardened mix of Oasis, Offspring and old-school punk. A bit puerile but not a bad listen.

3.5. Definitely an enjoyable album. Fast and high energy. Some ripping guitar. Nothing super profound.

This might have been put on here as a joke but I kind of enjoyed it. The main drawbacks were the repetitive instrumentals and childish sense of humor.

Not bad.

Nothing special.

Zabavno ali jednolično

This was a unique album especially given the Norwegian roots. Feels different from other rock albums but still retains that rocker essence.

Some decent rock from this group, fairly heavy stuff but good catchy riffs, pretty accessible. "Good Head" was really funny. I'm a little concerned at the name of this band, considering it's a group of white dudes from Norway. They've stated it's an anti-racist message, and that they're combining terms for "fast" and "black" as a descriptor of their music, but it's odd. Their other idea for band name was Nazipenis - real Sophie's choice between those two, huh? Anyway, the album's alright. Favorite tracks: The Age of Pamparius, Zillion Dollar Sadist, Good Head. Album art: A cool stencil-type drawing of a six-headed cobra. Gives it this old, homegrown sort of feeling, like it's a drawing you'd find in an ancient text or almanac. It's cool, and fairly memorable too, so I'd say it gets the job done. 3/5

Epic songs about pizza! Constant guitar solos! Classic glam/punk rock n roll feel! Hell yeah! This is AWESOME!!!!! For about 15 minutes. Then it gets old really fast. Turbonegro really just put the best songs first

I actually saw Turbonegro live in 2005, supporting Marilyn Manson and Iron Maiden. I don't remember much of it now, but the album is fine. I didn't listen much to the lyrics which seems to be everybody's gripe.

Eens met de reviews, lastig om door de zang heen te komen

At first I was expecting metal, and for the opening minute I thought I was listening to some Oasis-esque Britpop band, but no; this is catchy, hard-rockin’ punk from the US of Norway. It’s not groundbreaking but it is good fun, and there’s a run of tunes in the first half of the album that had my rating finger hovering over the four-star button. It does start to sound samey though and my enthusiasm had dipped a bit by the end.

Fun but forgettable

Based on the name of the band and album I had very low expectations. They surpassed them by far. Good 90s punk and a hint of 80s cock rock. The production is great. The album has a big sound. The opening 3 songs are great. The Age of Pamparius and Prince of the Rodeo are highlights. Lyrically they aren’t exactly Bob Dylan. 7.8/10

Interesting

Album 398 of 1001 Turbonegro - Apocalypse Dudes Rating : 2.5 / 5 Who doesn't need a little Norwegian punk to start their day? Not a masterpiece but I didn't not enjoy it. The music is better than the lyrics, which one could assume they wrote while in middle school.

Stick with me here. This isn’t a negative review. I seemingly outgrew hard rock and hair bands in 4th grade or so. As a child of the 80s, I found these bands to be a joke. And it never seemed like the members of these bands realized how ridiculous they were being. The look. The shallowness of their lyrics, and weak songwriting in general. On the other hand when you take a band like Turbonegro, who is 100% in on the joke of all-out worship of all things rock, and the over-the-top excess of it. Well, in this context, I actually really enjoy it. A lot of these tracks remind of other bands I’m a fan of: King Gizzard, and Ween when in their hard rock/punk persona. I enjoyed a lot of this ridiculous album. That said, I’m pretty sure it shouldn’t be on a list like this.

It was fine.

Really fun and tight album. Jello Biafra approved, so that checks out. Rating 3, but it's more a 3.5 and maybe over time could move to 4.

The best thing about this album was the title of "Don't Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker". It would've fit right in with Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson! Most of the rest wasn't that great for me.

I enjoyed. Won't go back.

Lyrically meh, musically it slaps.

Okay, this was a surprise. I was expecting something way more abrasive based on the track list and album artwork, but what I got was a genuinely fun album somewhere between punk and hard rock. A work of lyrical genius it is not, but I don’t get the impression that’s what they were aiming for.

This is so fuckin punk rock düd. HATE the fuckin name though. Can’t believe it was between that and “Nazipenis”. Now, the album has 13 songs, which isn’t necessarily too many, yet the album still ends up becoming repetitive. The vocals are completely lackluster and void of emotion. Instrumentally, it’s gee golly just good. The best thing they have going for them is the shock value of their titles and appearance, but if you strip all that away, you just get a glorified garage rock band. Bad? to some, average for me. 3/5

pretty fun and I'm not always the biggest fan of fun albums

Pretty good speedy punkish rock. Interesting stuff I might have liked if I heard it in the late 90's.

just on the line of a little bit too heavy metal for me but a generally good listen

Generally a very good listening experience. Good energy, a heavy sound that isn't too intense as to be off-putting. Bonus points for the David Bowie cover.

Never been the biggest fan of punk, but this isn't bad.

favourite: prince of the rodeo, zillion dollar sadist least favourite: monkey on your back, humiliation street it's fine mayb 6/10

While this is a pretty fun glam rock record mixed with some punk elements, I did find it a bit repetitive towards the back-half of the tracklist where the songs start to sound a bit samey and also lyrically is pretty weak, especially when you mostly have tracks talking about doing procreation.

I just don't like this kind of music

I liked it! Nothing remarkable just a solid rock/glam/punk album. Never heard of these guys before.

This definitely was rock and I enjoyed it. Good length, nice rocking out, very hard to take seriously. I would definitely listen again, I don’t think it necessarily set itself apart from any specific rock I’ve heard other than it’s very strange song titles but overall it was good.

The first song "The Age of Pamparius" is unquestionably the best and most ass-kicking song about pizza that I've ever heard. This is hilarious - like a punk version of The Darkness with great production and 80s level hard rock guitar sounds. It's not deep or maybe even not that good in the long run but who gives a shit when you're rocking against ass (????). It's fun tongue-in-cheek (OR IS IT) guitar rock to appeal to 70s punk, 80s hair metal, and 90s alt-rock all at once. 7/10 3 stars

It's got a nice sound, combining punk and metal, although sometimes not blending together well. Some of the lyrics could easily fit into unfunny comedy rock. I thought this would be a more serious record. It's not bad but could do better. Apocalypse Dudes gets 3 stars.

The music is fun, the lyrics are childish. It's a good time overall, though, as long as you don't take it too seriously. Shame I didn't discover them when I was 12 years old because I'd have been all about it.

- Puuuunk - Get It On finde ich zb sehr gut und ist mal ein Song, der im Kopf geblieben ist - generell ein cooles Album

It was fun until it was too much

Starts off strong and keeps a consistent vibe but I like the voices of other rock bands like this better and the songs don't stand out a lot.

Quick analysis is that it's good. But given more thought, I think I love the lead guitar player and drummer, while I'm not keen on the rest. The open and close of the album sounds so much like Spinal Tap that it can't be a coincidence. It's a rocker for sure. Kinda cool that they're Norwegian. 3.6

Solid enjoyable punk rock album. In classic punk fashion they sing about everything and nothing throughout the album. Gave me Beastie Boys vibes at times which lines up with when the album came out. Probably wouldn't be at the top of my list to come back to but not something I wouldn't listen to again.

I really would've liked these guys when I was in middle school. Too bad you grow out of this stuff, unless you're the guys from Jackass. 3/5

Pretty fun album. It was exactly what I thought it'd be based on the description, so - in that regard - it didn't disappoint.

Very interesting mix of guitar-driven glam rock and punk, both genres that I love - but unfortunately, kind of falls in the weird area between genres. It’s generally enjoyable, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. A little juvenile in general with the lyrics, but music like this isn’t exactly intended to be highbrow to begin with. Will definitely be coming back to some of the songs, because it’s a fun listen. But as a full album, it’s not overly compelling.
