Reviews (page 5 of 7)

The last band I expected to see on this list. Are you ready for the darkness. I am ready and give 3 stars.

Kinda great actually, didnt expect to like it as much as i did! One of the worst band names though.

Enjoyable for punk music. I may come back to this in the future.

Was alright

There are bands that just, well are - Kraftwerk, Roxy Music, peak Stones - and then there are the 'What if..' bands. Here the proposal is 'Imagine if Tom of Finland dressed a band blending Ramones/Dictators with rock guitar solos.' Well the results are a bit derivative, and it's hard to know how to take their 'Ass Cobra''Scandinavian Leather' gay/trans stylings. Some kick ass tunes, but really nothing distinctive on record. Can agree they are probably awesome live.

Belle découverte d'un groupe norvégien. De bons sons de guitare ça brasse bien. Les paroles sont moyennes.

Surprise c'est pas mal

Better than I expected. Pretty straight forward rock and roll record. Much different than anything else coming out in 98. I enjoyed it. Got a Hanoi Rocks vibe to it, especially on Humiliation Street. I am giving it a four because it was strong throughout. Not really a dud on the album.

Satunnaisia kappaleita kuullut aikaisemmin, mutta en koskaan levyllistä kerralla. Tykkäsin menosta ja herätti poltteen kuunnella enemmän.

Hauska, suoran toiminnan levy

Good, straightforward punk rock with a bit of 90s indie/alt feel to it Fun energy, but I don’t feel the need to ever return to this one

A couple standouts, but lots of kind of standard punk stuff that isn’t really memorable.

It’s alright. some head rocking required

Typical punk rock

Never heard this band before... can't yet make my mind up if I like it or not. Might need to listen again and possibly track down some of their other albums. All in all, glad it was on the list to add something "new" to try.

I enjoyed the sound, but it was very samesy to me. All the tracks kind of blended into each other.

This was a bit annoying at times, but there were parts I enjoyed and I’m not a big fan of this style of rock, so I’ll give it a 3.

A clean-sounding typical 90s punk band with a speedy heavy 70s rock sound and catchy hooks. I don't personally care for it much, but if you're a fan of Motorhead or Bad Company or other hard rock from the 70s, or maybe even skate punk fans who want someone catchier, then this has plenty to offer. It can be a bit samey with a few having nothing new to offer besides a slightly different riff or weird lyric, and it also goes too long with its track length. But it's pretty high-quality among its peers. Unfortunately, I couldn't pick out any songs as excellent. Even my favorites are just "pretty good". The 3rd star is given for consistency, production, accessibility, appropriate opening and closer, and simple true-to-form style without relying on cliche gimmicks or garbage ideas. I can see the thought that went into even my least favorites tracks. Favorites: Get It On, Prince of the Rodeo, Are You Ready For Some Darkness Least Favorites: Rock Against Ass, Rendezvous with Anus, Back to Dungaree High, Monkey On Your Back

Simply put: a fast paced rock album by a bunch of Norwegian dudes. Sounds a little reminiscent of 80s rock. Funny lyrics and titles like "Good Head" and "Rendezvous with Anus"

Seemed like some good straightforward punk rock. I would probably like this more some other day. Yesterday was not a punk rock mood.

What silly collection of songs. It kind of reminds me of Infectious Grooves if they played less funk-metal and more punk and rock. It was a bit exhausting to listen to an entire album of what is essentially party rock (more Andrew WK, less LMFAO).

Solid 3. Some great riffs, but can’t get behind the vocals.

One song familiar, not terrible.

Average

I enjoyed what I heard during my first listen, but, honestly, I don't really see myself coming back to this beyond one or two tracks. Still, though: motherfucking pizza.

This album is a solid 4 musically. Great rock n roll album with solid guitar work. The lyrics are flat out dumb. Theres a way to do sexual/humor/party lyrics in a clever way and then there is this.

Much better than I was led to believe by the reviews. Enjoyed the sound and the vibe.

Kind of cool music with somewhat basic lyrics that show very well that they are not native English speakers. I expected a bit different sound but the first song of the album struck me and pleasantly surprised. After that it just sort of stayed solid but nothing else really stood up.

Fun enough but pretty same-y throughout.

Perfectly listenable punk

Good hard rock music (not thrash or noise metal) with proper guitar solos and also some punk rock which sounds like The Stooges. Well produced. Some vocals are fine, but others are a bit punk and gruff. Content is generally puerile, obsessed with sex and swearing. However, I enjoyed the Guns 'n' Roses-esque rock 'n' roll.

fine. catchy and upbeat, but not personally meaningful to me. 3?

It was pretty good, happy to listen to it, but I don't think it added much to what Stooges, Bowie etc had already done

I liked this way more than I thought I would. I would probably give it a 2.5 if that was a thing but I’m feeling generous. Lol

more fun than i expected could i write poetry to it: no

Solid dumb Rock fun

Loved the glam rock much more than the punk.

Hard hitting! Some nice solos and guitarwork

Hressilegt og hálf tímalaust.

Skateboard music to thrash to. I’m pretty sure this entire album is in Tony Hawk Pro Skater. With a band name like Turbonegro and an album name with the word apocalypse in it, I thought this would have been darker and heavier. Combining synchronized vocals and standard heavy rock sounds this album doesn’t do much to blow you away but is still enjoyable enough. It’s not the worst I have heard in this genre and not the best. You could have replayed the same song over and over and told me they were different songs and it would have been no different from listening to this album normally. The whole time I felt like I had heard them before then realized they sound just like The Hives but heavier. 5/10

Really good songs, really subpar lyrics

This was interesting. There's something here. I know not what.

My first observation upon hearing the first song on this album is halfway through "The Age of Pamparius" the riff of "Clock Strikes Ten" by Cheap Trick is "borrowed." My second thought is the music isn't bad and this album probably deserves to be on the list. The lyrics and the song titles are that which would make Blink-182 request the band act a little bit more mature, but otherwise the music is pretty good. Would I ever re-visit this album? I may want to, but "Rendezvous with Anus" is a song title and I am a respectable adult.

Humiliation Street // 2.5/5

Great guitar & drums. Meh lyrics & singer.

I was having fun even though the lyrics are more dumb than juvenile, but then I was like this is been going on for I while and I was only at the 9th track. 1 additional star for the Wild Boyz theme track… good times!

It like the Hives…but less fun

Jack Black would love this I can guarantee it. Don’t say motherfucker, motherfucker! Hard rocking, tongue in cheek, balls out!

It’s punk music 3/5

Some pretty good tracks but a lot of filler too. Good guitar. I liked the parts where the Norwegian accents were really apparent. Overall fine.

A mix between scorpions and Sex Pistols. Some of the shredding was out of this world but otherwise my great music.

Good but could've been more aggressive.

Not to be contrarian here but… I think this album is misunderstood! It’s giving diarrhea planet, it’s giving liquor store. Some songs sound so much like Jeff the Brotherhood it’s kinda crazy. Nothing groundbreaking, but it’s a party rock album that’s weirdly timeless; it could easily get released tomorrow. It’s catchy and fun! 3.5/5 tbh, would go see Fidlar open for them

So, not really my thing, but.. quite enjoyable. I can't say I'll revisit the album ever again, but I enjoyed it. I'll go with a very low 3/5

A fun hard rock album. I like that they don't take themselves too seriously. Tracks I like: The Age of Pamparius Selfdestructo Blast Rock Against Ass Prince of the Rodeo Monkey On Your Back

All blends together

Reminded me a little of the Ramones. Not bad.

If The Ramones were an English as a second language band that played hair metal, you’d get this album.

a generic rock n roll record. like there is really nothing special about this but it’s not terrible either. the road was paved long ago and these guys are simply driving down it at them exact speed limit. very forgettable. too long for how mid this is.

punk but with melodic guitar, not bad, a surprise

Pretty good punk-glam hybrid with not so good lyrics. Not sure if I'd put it on by choice again, but wouldn't mind it if it was already on. 3.5/5

I dont hate it. 3/5

I wish I could say this album was turbo-tastic, but I sadly don't think it earned that title. The beginning had me interested, but then it just became punk rock, and I kinda lost interest. I don't know, I like the aesthetic of punk, but I just don't really care. I liked this one a little bit more because it had more rock, but it's barely a 3. My favourite song The Age of Pamparius.

Big dumb fun. Good stock standard punky tunes with a bit of Glam metal thrown in. Mix up Ramones, Kiss and the Misfits together and you are pretty close to the sound on display here. I really enjoyed this album but it is isn't world changing to my ears. Best to ask a Turbojugend as maybe they can tell you. Don't ask me to ask a Turbojugend as few things weird me out but those beautifully obsessive fans are an exception

A bit fun and strange approach to pop-punk-rock. The titles/lyrics are certainly more of the tongue-in-cheek/Spinal Tap vein. The songs are pretty straightforward, but don't particularly stand out. Get It On and Prince of the Rodeo were probably my favorites. A fine listen.

That one reply about Disney Channel was right, but some of this was still fun. European stuff is always ... interesting BT - Rock Against Ass - Zillion Dollar Sadist - Prince of The Rodeo - Are You Ready For The Darkness

This album is fun enough, but I don't really get why it's significant. It's one of those weird bands where I'm 100% sure that I would have fun at their live shows, but I'm not really sure why I would want to critically listen to one of their albums. 3/5 It's done well, it's just all been done before. Also, where are all the goddamned Butthole Surfers albums? If I can listen to Rendezvous with Anus, you all should have to listen to Dog Inside Your Body

Glam metal with a sense of humour, from the late 90s. No complaints listening through it but I won't be playing any of these songs again.

Turbonegro, or Turboneger as they are somehow called in Norway while winning prizes, are just immense fun. They roll up their sleeves and just starts pounding while Hank von Helvete, may he rest in peace, just serves one ridiculous line after another. It’s stupid. It’s rather iconic. It’s not really that groundbreaking or fantastic. It’s just a whole lotta fun.

Hard punk... Kind of fun kickoff to the summer weekend. Likely won't listen to again

Outstanding riffs and overall sound. Lyrics of felt like someone was forcing nuggets of shit into my ears. 3.

Cool quirky rock from talented musicians. Brilliant song titles too.

Enjoyed the listen, would listen again.

This was a cool album in some ways. The tunes are catchy and there are plenty of good riffs to be found. Much of the lyrical content is pretty sophomoric and the band name makes me uncomfortable in it's implications.

Energetic with a cool feel, hard to understand the lyrics but thats punk for you. Saved a few to playlist.

Fun punk rock album with heavy metal overtones on some songs.

Fast, tight punk but the music gets pretty heavy too. These guys must have had a great live show. The songs have a lot of forward energy and big, full rock sound, including piano on a few tracks and some soaring guitar solos. The album is much more musically accomplished than you might expect from a band singing about pizza, blowjobs and having a pocket full of mice in your pants.

This is probably one of the more shocking inclusions I've seen on the list. I heard about this band a while back as I think the Jackass / CKY / Bam Margera guys were fans of them and they would have them in their skate videos (or TV shows? I don't recall exactly). I always thought they weren't that good but I don't hate what I'm hearing so far on the album. I have a soft place in my heart for super modern punk, with plucky basses, distorted guitars, compressed drums, and gang vocals, and this album does a good job of capturing that sound. Surprising to me that this was 1998 though as the production is actually pretty tight for an act that I didn't think was popular enough to be able to afford the good stuff. I really genuinely thought that no one knew about this band. Alright here's a weird production thing. Listen to the end of track 3, "Get it On" and then listen to the start of track 4, "Rock Against Ass". It sounds like two really different levels of fidelity right? Like track 3 ends with such a wide and full sound and then immediately track 4 sounds so weak. Plus the singer sounds different (maybe it's a different person?)... just a weird switch here. One of the worst band names ever. I don't know if they were trying to be edgy but the thing is that their sound isn't really that edgy "fuck everyone and fuck you" sort of punk sound ya know? If you are going to go out of your way to have a band name like this then you really have to play up your edge I think. Their lyrics seemed to have more humor in them.

Too metal for my tastes

Not bad, as thrash metal goes. Hard to connect it with any Norwegians I know.

Fair to middlin' punk rock.

It’s nice, really cool but also really forgettable. Idk 3/5

Starts off promising, but by the end I was a bit fatigued due to the sameness of a lot of the tracks. I liked the sound overall, just got a little tired/bored by the end.

Not sure how I feel about this one. It's sort of punk, reminds me a bit of the Ramones, which I like. But on the other hand it's a bit much. I prefer my punk a bit more stripped down I guess. But it goes hard and definitely has some good energy. 3 stars.

From the tongue in cheek opening, felt like Spinal Tap-esque homage to The Beatles and Britpop, I was ready for some non-serious euro-punk-rock fun... and it sure did deliver! 3.5

It was just pretty damn average

These guys clearly haven’t seen tropic thunder because they just went full retard. They took some pretty ordinary (but often catchy) instrumentals, threw the most heinously idiotic lyrics over top and call it a day. I’m willing to admit the 55 miles in the last 10 days may have made me delirious enough to like this, but nonetheless, I did. So bad it’s good type of thing. This shit is hilarious and nobody can tell me differently. Something about this album, on this day, gave me a real sense of enjoyment. I was thinking of giving it a 4 just because of how much fun I had listening to it. But I know in my heart it doesn’t deserve that and if I got this another day I might hate it. At the end of the day it’s a novelty listen at best, but it’s what that I find generally entertaining. Best - Prince of the rodeo, good head, humiliation street MMM: GOOD HEAD‼️ O-WOAH-O-WOAH OHHHHHHHH 👌🏼GOOD HEAD😩 O WOAH O WOAH OHHHHHH💯

Ramones inspired riffs (some are straight up lifted), but fun songs, nonetheless.

kinda good. 3 stars

Outdated

Listened Before? N Wow, this album surprised me. I've only vaguely heard of these guys, but I've never listened. This is awesome! Good punk vibes mixed with some glam and an immature attitude. Great "garbage" listen. I'll listen to this one a lot. Added to Library? Y Songs added to playlist: Are You Ready (For Some Darkness)

Highlight: Humiliation Street 3,5/5

Turbomurzyn taki punk, "Selfdestructo Bust". Troche za slabe na 4, takie 3.5

Norgee ??

Pretty rocking punk and pretty funny. Hells yeahs dudes

Jag fick int så mycke av de men de va helt nice!

6/10. One of those where the music was pretty good, but the vocals brought it down. Didn't totally ruin it, but I don't think I'd want to listen to more of this

The energy and the fun are there, even quite decent guitar riffs... it's too bad that it all gets lost in the terrible bad lyrics and mediocre vocals.

Genres: Glam punk, hard rock, punk rock Formed: Oslo 1988 Run time: 15 songs, 54 min 5 sec Although I enjoyed the album, none of it really made me think wow. It’s got plenty of energy and the musicianship is good. I probably won’t listen again, but I may give some of their other albums a try. I did like the nod to Alice Cooper’s “Billion Dollar Baby”, with their song "Zillion Dollar Sadist". On Spotify, seven songs have less than 1M plays, six 1-2M and two over 6.5M. They have a good following but its not massive, as you’d expected for a group that was considered underground. My Rating: ***

first listen a grindy 90s vibe

I think in this genre there are some better albums. Still enjoyed this one. The only thing missing in the band is some great vocals. The riffs and sound they have is amazing, just not a bit fan of the vocals.

I liked this enough, the wailing guitars were fun. I’m into the sleazy punk rock genre, I just think if you’re gonna do it you need to be a bit more clever with the delivery or have something different going on (See Black Lips, Jay Reatard, The Viagara Boys) Turbonegro did enough to hold my interest I just found the delivery a little lazy but again the musical deliver was fast and furious and I’m always down for that so the I’m still gonna score this a 3 even though I was left a little dissatisfied

3.5 stars if I could. It was ok.The sound got grating after a while.Still pretty fun though.

Easily digestible 3 Ramones if their music was actually exciting also the opposite of dark But some of this really slaps, even though it's so cute. godammit why do i like this

Dig the funny rock

Not bad, not great. 3/5

3.5/5. Hank von Helvete is a cool name but the band name is awful, why did they decide on that? There’s a huge difference between being provocative and racist.

Quite good

Some reasonable but forgettable rock

Feel like this sits in a nice little niche before pop punk made this sound very cynical, but it didn't need to be an hour long.

A decent punk rock album but nothing too special. 3/5. Favorite Track: Zillion Dollar Sadist

Fun but too long. Wonder if they paid Alice Cooper some royalties for that first song.

This was not what I was expecting and maybe because of that I was more receptive to it than I would have been. 3*

Fairly meh.

Abit heavy for me, but still a good album.

Enjoyed this more than I should have, silly childish glam rock

Ca demenage et c'edt rock a fons. J aime bcp 3.95

I've said many times that by the 80s / 90s I had grown weary of heavy guitar dominated rock but something about this 1998 Euro version of guitar heavy glam works for me.  How can you not like the song "Don't Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker". I don't care what it sounds like, I'm liking that song. On "Get it On", it sure sounds like they pinched the "like it, love it . . ." from Alice Cooper's "I'm Eighteen". It did get a little tiring though and I admit I had to pass on 5 of the last songs  to jump to Suff City.

Eine Platte, die gar nicht so klingt wie aus den Neunzigern. Wenn man‘s weiß, hört man es der Produktion an, ansonsten verweigern sie sich dem Zeitgeist. Angenehm. Hatte ich nicht erwartet. Gerade so drei.

Goed om wakker te blijven in de ochtend. Goede melodie. Iets te meeslepend voor tijdens het werk -Christophe

Fun dumb rock. Not really worth being a \"must hear\" album to me but it's enjoyable. Kinda cringey sometimes though.

perfectly alright mid 90s punk. Short angry songs that are listenable and then immediately forgettable. 3/5

Some of this sounded a little too formulaic for me, but a few tunes were more interesting. I kept comparing it to The Hives throughout, whom I prefer, but I'm guessing this album would grow on me over another listen or two.

Did not break any ground. Was also ok

mikäs tässä kun kaahataan eteenpäin. onnistuneita hittejä väleissä, hyviä sanoituskoukkuja. ei vakavaa

Fun, adrenaline-driven rock. Good music to drink to.

Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes? But '70's vibes always work for me.

Its a send up of a lot of classic rock sounds from the late 70s and early 80s. The hard rock sounds are somehow nostalgic and new. While i think it goes hard, I havent found something to really latch onto. I am also not a huge fan of the singers voice with this sound.

Good album I’d probably have to listen to a lil more carefully to have more to say about.

Without much context, and a quick perusal of the song list, the band has a thing for... things. Musically, they are a bit of a combination of rock and punk with solid melodies accompanying punk-style vocal delivery. Honestly it is a bit of a surprise how objectively enjoyable the first listen is. Norway is known for a lot of things, but a band like Turbonegro was not the first thing on that list. "Prince of the Rodeo" is high energy, pure fun, with great resolve as any good rock song should have. Their sound is such that they are musically forward, with lyrics and vocals seeming to run a tad out of focus. Where the punk element really is on display, is where the songs seem to break in between melodies with an aggressive chorus that compels a listener to take up a stance of some kind, it does not matter what it is. "Humiliation Street" might be an under-estimated song on this album. This is a rock song very much in the vein of the late 90s, reminiscent of Alice in Chains. However, what makes the song particularly noticeable is that it is a slowed down offering for an album that until then had been very much including punk energy. This song however, is completely rock and while a bit lengthy, a great listen, showcasing Turbonegro's strong instrumental skills.

Norwegian Death Punk.....what a unexpected genre to see come up. It was actually a pretty good album and I was pleasantly surprised.

Listened to on 8/1/22 2.5/5 Favorite song: The Age of Pamparius When I first saw this album I thought I was going to hate it but it was actually not that bad!The songs were chaotic but surprisingly good especially for something titled Rock Against Ass and Rendezvous with Anus

Like a more aggressive Offspring. It was alright but I wouldn’t go out of my to listen to it.

Kinda weird “death punk” - touches of metal, punk, and rock.

Pretty decent punk. Not enough here to make me want to come back to it but I'm not sad I heard the album

This definitely rocked, but not in any especially inventive or creative way. Fun but not earth shattering.

I dig it

Meat and spuds music this. It had its place in the pantheons of music, but just doesn’t ring my particular bells. A review with innuendo for an album with plenty of innuendo!

OK, if you were fighting with your sister, this would be the perfect gift to buy for your nephew’s 13th birthday, because he’d love all the cussing and teenage sarcasm and sexual innuendo, you’d be the cool uncle, and it would piss your sister off every time she heard him play it. Don’t expect much singing here, but do prepare yourself for plenty of good ol’ punk yelping. And, after a while, Hank von Helvete’s vocals will begin to become a little infectious, not unlike a mosquito bite. The rhythm section’s competent, and playing loose. Sloppy good, I would call it, like a chili dog. When they were at their best, on ‘Prince of the Rodeo,’ or ‘Humiliation Street,’ they were an intriguing little rock ‘n roll band. Lead guitarist, Euroboy, in particular, is the one leading this charge, all Joe Perry DNA and arena rock circa 1970s chops. The band establishes a nice percussion groove and good guitar hook in the middle of ‘Prince of the Rodeo.’ Euroboy also did some nasty ending guitar work on ‘Humiliation Street.’ Unfortunately, most of the album was pretty monotonous. Little in the way of arrangements or dynamics or tempo changes. Just aim that steering wheel straight ahead and step on the gas. Similar with the lyrics. Stuff you would expect from a young punk/glam band, inside jokes and coded lingo, double entendre galore: ‘Jerk that calf, half n’ half, I’m back in the saddle, the world’s most progressive cowboy.’ – ‘Prince of the Rodeo. You can imagine the rest, just from a random mention of their titles: ‘Rock Against Ass,’ ‘Rendevous with Anus,’ ‘Good Head,’ which features a minute and a half clichéd extended ending (I think on purpose for sarcasm’s sake) that closed every stadium rock concert you ever attended back in the day. Finally, and I’ve not yet puzzled this one out, there are an awful lot of references to ‘denim.’ These fellas are from Norway, by the way. Denim, huh? Turbonegro's 'Apocalypse Dudes' wasn’t the best nor the worst I’ve heard in a while. They did manage to get their own unique thing going on. I’m just not sure where it was bound, if anywhere. Maybe the nearest Levi’s outlet?

Pretty good for about 10 minutes but then it gets just very samey. I lost interest. The band name is also super cringe.

While it had some fun moments, I wasn't really impressed. It's poppy, but not in a good way. I like pop punk, but this just felt safe and middle of the road and like they didn't really fully want to commit to anything. I didn't mind listening to it, but it's just boring and didn't hold my attention much.

This started really well! Dramatically tails off though as it’s all a little bit too samey! By the end you’re glad it’s done, despite a fun enough cover of Bowie’s Suffragette City. Glad to finish it and wouldn’t rush back.

3.5, interesting but did not strike me like other punk can do

Ramones meets AC/DC but with some silly lyrics. Good rockin fun thought with some good riffs.

Contrary to what the WIKI article suggests, I wouldn't say Turbonegro shed their punk sensibilities, for an all-out glam rock style. The opening track "The Age of Pamparius" defintely gives you the impression you're in for a glam-rock adventure, flying on the back of a flaming guitar, but that gives way to well worn punk standards, just a song later. Moreover, track titles like "Don't Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker", "Redezvous With Anus" and "Good Head" make it pretty clean the group isn't taking themselves too seriously. In general, the album is fairly middle of the road punk, but with a longer format (more songs are longer than 3m, than aren't). I think they would've been better served by keeping each song tight and fast (giggity). I enjoyed the straight forward energy of the album, but the sophmoric lyrical subject matter was a detractor for me. I can get behind an appropriately depraved song (I'm thinking GWAR of Tenacious D), but this just felt pointless/aimless. I am still intrigued to hear more from the band. A quick glance at their top tracks on Spotify gives me the impression they've remained pretty superficial. We'll see if they grow on me over time.

Pretty good, pretty hard. Good mix of the punk sound and the hard rock sond.

This is weird. It's much more punk than I like, but something about it still makes me want to keep listening.

Had some good stand out tracks that reminded me of early 2000s kerrange. Most was just forgettable though

Irgendwas zwischen 1 und 4. gar nicht durchgängig nervig

A little better than expected

// Favs: The Age of Pamparius Score: Decent 3

Bracing!

a snapshot of youthful energy and humour

Seemed like pretty standard rock-oriented punk, reminiscent of Bad Religion to me, differentiated mainly by the pretty adolescent dedication to profanity. I didn't dislike it.

This is fun and high energy. High school wannabe punk me would have LOVED this. 3.5, will maybe revisit.

Not as bad as first anticipated - in fact - a lot of it is really quite good. Enjoyed reading up on the band, enjoyed the album - the epitome of "not my cup of tea" so a welcome diversion from my normal tunes.

It started off strong and after the fourth song got very repetitive.

Melodic, driving punk with sick guitar riffs and goofy-ass lyrics. My only prior exposure to this band was Queens Of The Stone Age’s cover of “Back To Dungaree High,” and I’m really not surprised Josh is a fan.

Fun record with punk lyrics and heavy metal drive. There’s something to be said about these tasty licks, fun on a first listen but wouldn’t warrant me back for multiple listens. Feels like a great skateboarding weekend adventure music and I could see album being a staple in a lot of peoples collections. Overall: Fun, goofy, punk. 3 stars.

These guys desperately want to be more hard core than they are. They end up sounding a little juvenile ("Don't Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker" and "Good Head") but ultimately this is a fun little album if you just roll your eyes at how seriously they want to take themselves.

It's good, but not really my thing. It also sounds a lot like other hard rock albums that came before it. I can appreciate it though.

Surprisingly good. Some CIV and Pennywise vibes, very heavy on lead guitar/solos. Guitars were kinda 80s metal sounding at times, and 2000s garage at other times. Excellent Bowie cover to end the album. Very close to a 4 star.

Decent album. Recognized the first track. Was on Wild Boyz

I liked this. I'd give it 3.5.

good rock, probably fun to dance to

90s punk, quite catchy at first but gets very samey after a few songs

3.5/5 decent album. Really liked. Just probably never going to listen again

Great rock album.

Some good tracks on this one. Very tight playing -- impressive! More harsh on my ears than music I typically enjoy, but still good work.

Crass lyrics overall. I liked the rock n' roll sound.

Punk rock nórdico. Not my style pero no suenan nada mal, rollito greenday en algunos temas.

Finally some good fucking music Little evil, racist Scandinavians Just no bollocks hard rock

Fast paced punk rock that would find its home on any skateboarding video.

Quite rocky. Like a lot.

Great guitar music - lots of fun

Really enjoyed this! Very jammy.

This was pretty good punk rock (not sure how it can be called “death metal”). I’m not quite to wanting to recommend it to anyone though.

Is the first song about a pizza restaurant?

"You got nothing to lose at Pamparius Gonna bake a motherfucking pizza tonight" (The age of Pamparius) El mejor complemento para el día que tus vecinos están tirando todas las paredes de su piso.

I'd only heard 'Ass Cobra' before. I prefer this. It's a bit less comedic, shouty and screamy and a bit more tunefull. First half is fun rock and more melodic than the punkier second half. Opener, 'the Age of Pamparious' even has an acoustic guitar and is my fave on here. Pretty good, but not worthy of an erection. 3/5

I don't mind this type of music but all these sounded the same

Definitely grew on me the more I listened. I enjoyed this quite a bit and ended up checking out some of their other big hits. Some really good solid rocking, and quite frankly who doesnt enjoy good head

Can’t tell if this band is a boner tug or what? Pretty good music most the time, but not anything I’d listen to often

One of those albums where if you’ve heard one song you’ve pretty much heard them all. Not too bad, just kinda bland. Favorite track: “The Age of Pamparius”

It’s fine

Well that was an uncomfortable band name.

Esta muy comercial, como caricaturizado.

Guitar-based heavy rock. Never heard of them before, probably would have loved it back in the nineties, bit much for me now (I guess Im getting old)

Mix of glam metal and hair metal. Pretty fun. Some catchy songs. 6/10

nice sections, but a bit redundant

Es bueno.

some good

Enjoyed!

Sus band name but solid tunes

BACK TO DUNGAREE HIIIIGH

Sure wasn't expecting a band called Turbonegro to be white Norwegians from the 80s. Giving a mild squint to the whole thing. The lyrics are particularly inexplicable, which I, unfortunately, like because it reminds me of Eurovision. Lotta butt talk. Slur count = 1.

It’s such a fine line between stupid and clever.

not bad but my grandma died today so i wasn’t locked into it lol. i’m sure it’s fine

This album is a reminder that this is 1001 Albums you need to hear before you die and not the 1001 best albums ever made. That said, I have no idea what i stumbled into or why it made the list. My guess is that if these guys sung in their native tongue, the lyrics might not sounds so corny. Perhaps this is what they wrote as they learned English by listening to early Motley Crue. Either way, I barely got through one listen. It kind of reminded me of if Tommy Wiseau decided he wanted to make a metal band, and front it. This is what it would sound like. "I did not do it! I did not hit her" would not feel out of place on this record. Some of the riffs do sound cool so I'll give it an extra star just for that.

4/10… death punk / action rock / *1998

Musically it's alright, lyrically is quite stupid. Overall it's just an okay album. 2.5/5 Probably won't listen again

Mediocre music with some year 8 lyrics over the top

Musically decent but lyrically abject. Humiliation Street was a definite highlight, great guitar work not spoilt by the message.

Some great old rawk tunes here. Liked the pace and musicianship, but there seems to be a major problem with the lyrics. I would love to give them the benefit of the doubt the lyrics work better in Norwegian and is simply a translation or cultural issue. But sadly I like this band, I am not that naive, their grasp of English is probably far superior than most English people and is just a case of poor taste.

All these songs sound the same.

Better vocals/lyrics this becomes a 4

Listening to this album made me feel like I was watching a Halo 3 montage on YouTube as a 15 year old. The roaring guitars, heavy drum beats & fast pacing solos are great fun in isolation and pack a punch. Unfortunately for me though it got boring very very quickly. There’s only so many songs like this I can hear in succession before I’m craving something different. The songwriting overall just feels directionless and a bit soulless in the end, which is a shame because after one song I felt promise from this record.

Someone once said, “if Disney made a rock band” now I get it

Favorite track(s): Selfdestructo Bust, Prince of the Rodeo

Norwegian death/glam/hard rock? This isn't good. Why is this on the list? Pitchfork: n/a Rolling Stone: n/a

Onpahan taas peruspaskaa.

Feels like an industry plant

Total 2

Absolutely middle of the road late 90s punk

I listened to this like 6 times to try to find something to say, but I've got nothing. Its fine. Its a punk record, but it doesn't have any of the charm or charisma that it takes the genre to carry and album for me. Standout Tracks: Age of Pamparius Rating: ⭐️⭐️✨️

OK it's energetic, punk and so on but you need to be in the mood to listen to this. It's not an album that will put you in the mood to actively want to listen to it. Another day it might have been a 3.5, today it's a 2.5. Grading low.

Wasn't for me yesterday.

The band name itself makes me feel quite questionable about this album. As I listen to the album, I find it hard finding anything for me. The glam rock and supposedly humoristic touch of this album is not really for me. Sure 'Randevouz With Anus' is an eye-catching title for a track, but the whole experience just feels a bit too juvenile for me. And as such, the rating will follow. Strong 2.

Yeah hell nah. Why would anyone listen to this when Green Day also exists.

I mostly did not enjoy this but the Suffragette City cover was pretty good.

toooo loooooong

Album 40/1001. Listened 6/8/2026. It's OK, but nothing I'll spin again.

Droppeado, muy repetitivo

Rock…against(?) ass! I can’t get on board with that message. The turns of phrase in the titles alone really got me. Like Rendezvous with Anus of course. But there’s a lot of funny ass stuff in here…buried in an hour long punk behemoth with more than one 5+ min long song. Do the songs rock, yeah? Do they sustain that rock hardness…dunno, but they made me laugh

Every song sounds the same, kinda rocks but also kinda sucks eh. No bonus points for name or whatever it is they stand for.

Not my thing at all

Here we have an album of very decent peaks but startlingly low troughs from a rock band that I've never heard before. I love the opening track. The guitar is fantastic and I love that it's just about their favourite pizza place - even the tale that the song generated so much publicity for it that it became overwhelmed and had to close down! Prince of the Rodeo is another fabulous track, and there are enough power chords and interesting riffs dotted around the album to satisfy. But there are bands that have written better albums than this that will wonder what Rendez-vous With Anus did to push this album onto the 1001! It was funny when I was 14. It's just eye-rolling now. Apparently, the band considered calling themselves Nazipenis when they were formed, but we're advised they wouldn't sell any records. It shows they may have the tendency to try and shock, or just be immature! So, some great tunes, but crappy lyrics, so 2 rusty sheriffs badges from me.

Took a ride in 6 different directions

I do not think I'm purchasing their merch

I listened to this whilst operating noisy machinery, which I must say helped enormously. Silly lyrics only saved somewhat by a bit of nice guitar playing. Might revise to a 1 eventually.

Some chill rock

good music bad lyrics. a tragic waste

This was bang average. I listened twice and except the suffragette city i couldnt tell you a thing about it. Just really generic.

Perceived it as noise

cringey homophobia and it all sounds the same

regular 2

An alright high energy rock album. Not sure why it's on here though, feels pretty average. 2*

This is a bizarre album, frankly. The music is pretty good...they play well, and if this had been released between 1985-1988 it would have really stood out. For an album released in 1998, it has a bizarrely outdated sound. And the lyrics...good gravy.

An inserting album. But its not selling me on owning it. Which is, after all, my entire test.

It felt a bit cringey at points and the long guitar outros felt needlessly glammy. I didn't really enjoy it. I feel like the saving grace is tha tthis group avoided going with their first impulse for a band name...despite their anti-racist messaging it just feels like they kind of would suck to hang out with?

This is just too rad for me bro

Felt more like metal or hard rock than rock.

Ahhhh, not great? A few tracks or choruses were okay at best.

Feel 6/10: I’m not as big of a grung fan but I can appreciate it Length 4/10: 14 songs that feels much longer. It’s just really not my vibe Musicality 9/10: I actually really like the instrumentation here. Very good Flow 7/10: Songs come and go. So so Lyrics 5/10: Not a Fan ngl. Scream metal ain’t my vibe Overall 6/10: So so album. Ok album with great moments

A definite rocker. I did like the Bowie cover.

I didn’t mind a couple of the songs, but a lot of the lyrics are so sophomoric, and I found it quite repetitive. The song I liked best was the cover of Bowie’s Suffragette City, and I don’t even like that song; that pretty much sums it up. Two stars, and I need a good album to emerge soon…it’s been a tough week.

Pretty mediocre. Mostly just generic punk with nothing interesting going on. Favorite Track: Prince Of The Rodeo

This started off strong but kinda tailed off for me. I will admit I was distracted while I say it was trailing off. Overall it was pretty ok. I’d probably listen to this again.

Was expecting some rhythm and blues, got some reet dull 90s rock. Ew. Not the one for me. Looked them up on Wikipedia and became more annoyed lol. Does not deserve to be on the list.

Loud and fun, feels like 2000s teen music. Most songs sound pretty similar

This is not for me.

If I had heard this album in my teens I probably would have liked it. These days I just don't have the patience. Every time I would start to enjoy a song, something would happen musically, vocally, or lyrically that would make me think--nah this isn't working.

Fun, but also cookie-cutter punk music.

Give it up for another two-star punk album‼️‼️🔔🔔🔔 I swear there are nuggets of potential here in the form of headbanging rhythms and sick guitar shreds, but they're diluted to hell by the 50min runtime. I somehow made it to the end, but I was just about done with the album right around Rendezvous With Anus. Standouts: Get It On • Humiliation Street

I found it pretty repetitive, but understand the appeal

Sounds pretty good but those lyrics were just horrible.

Good fun, reasonably problematic band name...???! Nothing revolutionary, just a fun punk/glam album.

Shame on passing over their first name.

This is incredibly mid. The music is not bad, but the lyrics are god awful. 2/5

So, when this popped up this morning, it was definitely a band and album I'd never heard of. I have to say that when I looked it up and realized it was a Norwegian punk/hard rock band that had a questionable band name (the alternative name they considered was worse), a questionable album cover (which is why I'm posting the back of the album cover - you can look up the front on your own if you choose) and names of songs that might get me thrown in FB jail... I have to say I wasn't looking forward to my daily listen. I'll start by saying this music is just not for me. I felt like I should be listening to it in a mosh pit with a bunch of people that I don't want to be around. But, I always try and stay as objective as possible when listening to something new. It's musically solid and good for what it is and the listening audience it's intended for, just not for me.

Probably could’ve died before listening to this one. 1.9

Are they Green Day? Are they The Hives? Are they The Ramones with a more polished sound? Beats me, but the music wasn't bad, although a bit mundane. Lyrically, and vocally, it bored the hell out of me.

Honestly wasn't terrible but definitely not for me. Didn't hate it, but also didn't enjoy it.

The music is great, with jamming guitars and solid percussion. The lyrics try to be provocative but land on adolescent, and the delivery seems to be from guys whose native language isn't English.

maybe a bit too hard of rock for me, very high energy and more aggresive than i typically listen to

Holy “Regional-Norwegian-Battle-of-the-Bands-Losers-Keep-on-Trying(-to-no-good-end)-Despite-Getting-to-the-Age-of-Drugstore-Seniors-Discounts-without-any-memorable-output-that-will-live-beyond-the-generational-turnover-of-their-prostate-heavy-fanbase”

No sabía que eran noruegos. No los había escuchado, son más soportables que otros grupos punk heavies??.

Punk rock Every song very close to grinding on the eardrums. Glad when it was over.

Fun to get to know this band and their weird sophomoric euro shit.

Sigh no. 2

“Turn off this heavy shit”

Sounds like the angst of some young "dudes" from a (car dependent) US suburb alright.

This would be much better if the song lyrics and titles weren't written with such empty, petulant, teenage angst.

Always tend to find that bands that play at a fast tempo are hiding their lack of talent. Classic example here

HArdfrock, Schreigesang, keine Ahnung finde das zu HArt

It's some punk music for the background. I don't think this needs to be on the list.

Not sure what distinguishes this album or group to make it nowhere worthy enough to be on this list. Unless maybe you’re trying to make sure that as many countries as possible are included with diverse selections from each of them.

Not bad.
