Reviews (page 7 of 8)
This is a genre that I am not a fan of and this album didn't change my opinion on it. I imagine that if you are tapped into this kind of music the songs would song different and unique but to me they sound to similar. I do appreciate the fact I can understand the lyrics compared to screamo (although I didn't really like them) and the drums. I'm giving it a one but it didn't stand a fair chance with me because the style of music it is.
2/10
Fuck off with this shit.
Not my music...AT ALL.....
very much not thrash metal enjoyer today
Not my vibe
Was putting of listening to this all morning, finally started at 10:15 ish T1 yeah basically what I expected, this is somehow worse though. The lyrics are so cornball. “I’m so angry and get no pussy!!” Good production 3:39 yo this is straight up nonsense, no modality, legit sounds like just random notes. When you think of muddy playing and jimmy paige u think sure there’s some random shit he’s doing that probably wouldn’t be intentionally replicated every show he does, but still it fits and makes his solos special, this is just the noise and random filler shit except for the entire solo. T2 wow this a new song? Also I do high key get how Metallica could turn this into something, kinda sounds like master of puppets or enter sandman with the drop tuning open string chugs and chromatic line cliches. Definitely like this one more than the first. T3 alright starting to see how although this might be ass, it could be fun to listen to to hear different metal influences, can definitely hear the birth of Black Sabbath in this one 1:04 another random note shit but this time it’s fitting into the track a little better. It’s just all so fast though, like it feels like the artists don’t respect consumer’s ears enough to listen to their music and instead need to overstimulate the audience with just so much noise, random key changes, and words that sound like they are not in english, well maybe Medieval English. I know that’s not true and they are serious very real artists but that’s my naive take on basically all heavy slash metal. T4 what’s the deal with death and satan? Remeber when Paul McCartney shouted about a playground? Am I supposed to be scared? Because I am. Maybe coolest song from an instrumental or rather musical aspect, and the drums and rhythm are IN THE POCKET big time, very tight playing, excellent drums and for the most part it’s excellent in tempo changes, doesn’t always sound very good, but is extremely difficult to do. T6 apparently Jeff hanneman played a les Paul esp on this?? Kinda shocking. Kinda cool tho to hear how evh’s red special/Frankenstein came to be, certain sounds and frequencies from this album I’m sure that he wanted and certain that he didn’t want, probably ultimately led him to the decisions he made on gear. T7 song sounds same as others, the talking is so weird I can’t get over that. Funish guitar run 1:00-1:30 but man I’m just waiting until this is over. T8 Ayo Metallica, this your flow? When in doubt pinch harmonic T9 almost at the end. Like this intro so far, best in the album that I remember. The rythym sections are doing some cool stuff here, unique sounding composition as well. I feel like this could’ve been a good 2nd song on the album— but maybe since it’s here that means the final song is gonna be sick. why do they keep asking if I want to die? No? T10, here we go, big buildup, fav song in the album precedes it, let’s see what we got. Alright the lighting and the two lead guitars I’m liking it. Pivotal point here for me at like 1:07 at the end of the double stop chugs, they needed to make a change and I liked the way they did it. Great tempo drops for that recurring riff. This songs seems very fun to play on guitar. Yoo he’s playing the same riff but on the downbeats now @2:20~ hell yeah never hear that. Kind of a weird cut to the rain but actually kind of nice, abrupt at first but it settles. I wonder what the idea/concept behind this album is and why the last 45 seconds is just rain, are we dead now maybe? Last two songs are making me slightly less wish there was a 0 star rating option, still a firm 1/5 and would probably be much more hated by me if it didn’t have those last two songs. Definitely fun to see where inspiration is drawn from, but I did not enjoy listening to that album.
nah
Can’t. Can’t even finish listening. <1
I mean I can appreciate it on some level but no. 1
No bloody way
nope
Not my kind of music, way to heavy listening today at least.
80's thrash metal. No thanks. I tried to listen, and failed. Pitchfork: n/a Rolling Stone: 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time #6
Frenetic metal, pretty rough
I like heavy metal but did not like this. A lot of speedy playing, but many of the solos were non-sensical and non-melodic. Just got tired of the vibe.
Absolutely not my kind of thing, still tried to listen with a willingness to change my mind...but it didn't.
not my kinda tune
I like the slow dancey smoochy ones like Altar of Sacrifice and Criminally Insane
“Unyielding kings of agony Test your body chemistry Pulmonary overthrow Possession of your inner throne Infections quickly override Malicious, domineering strike Floods your veins, commit slow death Deteriorate, your maker's met” I think we can conclude from this verse alone that the lyricist is no Percy Shelley, and that this is music for people who don’t really like music. In fairness however, Slayer pose a profound question when they ask the listener “do you want to die?” To which the answer upon being forced this thrash trash was an unequivocal “yes” from me. It may be genre defining, but I get little enjoyment from its oeuvre. A good addition to the list, if only to reinforce my opinion that thrash metal/death metal is pile of steaming poo.
The best thing I can say about this is that it wasn’t obnoxious. Metal is clearly not for me!
Awful
Nope
No thanks. P
I love Metallica even more after this experience. 1 star.
Not for me
Horrible.
Gruselig
This has very little if any redeeming value!
Devoid of any sense of fun or any kind of catchiness, or any prettiness. I know that's what it's going for, but I didn't like it at all. 1 Star.
This is my Rubicon. Cannot cross.
i just don't want to listen to this.
Hard pass.
I just don’t get slayer
ugh
Guessing there weren’t a lot of females at Slayer shows back in the day.
Every track sounds the same:/ Not for me, dog.
A thousand monkeys with a thousand instruments could top this inside of fifteen minutes.
Yuck.
I still don't get thrash.
On the plus side, this is only 28 minutes. On the negative side, most everything else.
Not for me.
don’t mind metal but I prefer actual singing 1/5
No thank you.
Not my thing
Ugly noises
That's disgusting.
*pushes soap box into place* the only good thing about this record is the hook riff of reign in blood the vocals sound like a fat kid who just ran up the rocky stairs and is trying to speak the speed is impressive but the riffs are not the drums are very repetitive in the patterns used. solid patterns but maybe play more than 3 for an entire record their fans are generally closed minded one dimensional people (thus why they can only scream slayer at any show even if slayer isnt in attendance) this band live is the single most boring thing ive seen on a stage. zero stage presentation zero movement zero set design they either start or end with reign in blood and have so since this album all in all there are multiple bands who do this genre better.
Not my cup of tea.
FORFERDELIG PÅ ALLE PLAN
Not my tempo. 1/5
I was in a bad mood when I started listening, then I was real mad
Coming in at whopping 28 minute long album, this was about 25 minutes too long. I can thrash for a couple minutes, and give it a good laugh, but then I’m good on all the BPMs and chaos rhythm.
I found this tough. I can take thrash metal in small doses but an entire album is too much for me.
Not for me.
Not my type of music
Writing a song about mengele and then claiming you just find him interesting is some serious edgelord shit.
bääääh, was für ein schrott.

Terribly noisy.
This was every bit as bad as I expected. 1 star or F.
Need a singer but Band are ok.
What a waste of time.
Shit is ass. I wrote in my Metallica review that I always thought classic thrash metal sacrificed depth for intensity but I enjoyed that album because it had more to it. This is just straight garbage and a prime example of what I meant. I can understand liking this because of it being kickass but speedy satanic nonsense doesn't do shit for me. Good riddance. (1/10, 1/5 on this scale, fuck this)
*eyeroll*
Honestly, why? Not for me
Nope
A guess a guy screaming details about the devil and his (her) fellows whilst his buddies talentlessly assault their instruments in the background isn’t my thing. Go figure
Yeahhhhhh NO. No Thank You
Thrash metal is… not my thing.
Nope, I’d rather sit and listen to the Dirty Mac’s Whole Lotta Yoko on repeat for the half hour it takes to listen to this garbage. I nominate this album for the 1001 albums to avoid while you’re alive.
Just noise. He's just shouting words at you, there is zero musicality in the vocals. I'm not even sure they're coherent sentences. The guitarist is not too bad, but unfortunately he's shackled to this shitty singer. Angel Of Death sounded like it had some white supremacist lyrics or something like that. Can't even tell if it was pro or anti, the singing was that bad. Altar Of Sacrifice had some good music, at least. My head hurts now. I'm going to bed. Best song: Altar Of Sacrifice
hatar
This project has taught me that I like Metal. It has now also taught me I loathe Thrash Metal.
Blind album and artist. Know them by name only, and now will avoid this name. Can't believe I gave such a notable band that I see everywhere a 1 but here I am. Did not like and would not seek out again.
Nty.
Music for eight year olds
As good as Metallica are, the rest of the big 4 pale into insignificance. Anthrax are awful, Megadeth are megadull, while Slayer suck sadly. The drummer must be fit.
Once was enough!!
This did not slay, Queens
Noise. Zero stars
p554. 1986. 1 star. Redundant Motorhead wannabees with half decent lyrics. However, there is nothing here that hasn't been done before.
I just find this type of rage so fake and pantomime? Laughable. Survived half of the first song and knew I'd heard enough. As usual in metal, excellent guitar work; shame about the vocals.
Great musically but just to much for me.
Oh, from the sublime to the ridiculous. This is rather an exhilarating album, with a stupendous fast pace. I can't really judge the lyrics, as they all came across as "argle-wargle-bargle" - but I understand from Wikipedia that at least the album opener caused some controversy. This really isn't my taste in music, but it's always good to be exposed to albums one wouldn't necessarily play. I did feel it was aimed at a certain audience with somewhat juvenile tastes. That said (and maybe because of this), it seems this was quite influential on the thrash metal genre. Despite the album's brevity, it was quite exhausting, and the individual tracks were pretty samey. For an album of under half an hour, it seemed to last for an eternity.
To quote one Alan Parzridge: "Just noise"
Not a fan
Songs to make your mom and dad chuckle out of second hand embarrassment.
At least it was short 🙉
Added this to my “gonna go out and fuck some shit up” playlist.
Yea I'm not listening to this
not my thing. would give it an extra .5 if possible for the technical proficiency but unsurprisingly i didn’t like it at all
It's a stretch to call this music.
I will not be listening to this under any circumstances. Namaste.

29 minutes of this was painful. Couldn’t have listened to another second.
Too much yelling for me
I knew by the cover I’d hate it. Listened to three tracks for 2 seconds each which confirmed my hate. 👎
No no no no no noooooooo! Death metal puts me in a bad mood every time, and this is even worse than average.
no
That was…interesting.
Bunch of awful noise
Lärm und sonst nichts!
this was so astronomically dumb i couldn’t stop laughing…it really sounds like they put all the grossest edgy bullshit that a 15 year old redditor would find cool in a hat and pulled them out at random to compose (generous word there) the lyrics. there was an instrumental break (end of “altar of sacrifice” into “jesus saves”*) that i found mildly interesting but as soon as the vocals started again it was back to total dumbass horse shit. the best part of this record is that it’s less than half an hour long. thank god for small mercies. *even typing these song titles is making me laugh
i just couldn't do it i listened for maybe 30 seconds
The understated songwriting of Paul Simon with the unmatched harmonies of CSN. You won’t find them here. This is thrash metal. Angry, “I want to see your skin rot and melt away” thrash metal. It certainly has its place, and I can see how some are drawn to it as an outlet for pain and frustration. But I can’t say I enjoy listening to it.
apparently I like Thrash metal...but reading about Angel of Death being based on Josef Mangele immediately turned me off of this album and band. Maybe unfairly given their comments about the song. But I just didn't have much interest in getting through this one as a result...
Awful
I dont understand how anyone could find this "horrowing" but it definitely isn't interesting
I have never heard a slayer album before. I had heard of the band though. But damn this music. It just doesnt do it for me. The songs felt too high tempo. Like they were just fast for the sake of it, regardless of the melody. I think thats why i have always been drawn more towards bands like maiden, metallica etc than this kind of stuff. You can tell musically the band is talented. No doubt about it. They are good musicians. The drummer specifically is a bad ass. Theres some good guitar work too. However, that does not save the album. The track "jesus saves" could not even save this thing. Wow, 28 mins long i thought. Probably 28 mins too long after a reflection. For me personally, this was absolutely junk.
Not for us, we gave up and listened to nightfall in middle earth instead. Which is very good, and would be 5 stars.
"Bara" 28 mínútur. Ég hélt þetta út. Mun ekki hlusta aftur, því þetta er bara ekki fyrir mig.
Ci sono alcuni bei momenti musicali ma che testi banali, ogni canzone è la stessa esaltazione del diavolo e di morti dolorose, dopo la seconda canzone diventa prevedibile e perde ogni effetto scioccante, al punto di far ridere
Extremely energetic, very violent and strange lyrics. Not my cup of tea.
Reminds me of Scum but without the kindness to have 30 second songs.
Awful metal shit
Nope not listening to this one, sorry Slayer.
Dne
Really not my thing and listening to it gave me a headache in the end ! 1*
Maybe the worst shit I have ever heard. I guess parts of it were kind of funny?
Edgelord album, raining blood is the only song I'd listen to again.
Of acadamic interest. The super fast drumming and guitar. Music perhaps suitable for violent chase scenes in films, or when doing SPRINT or HIIT training/exercises. But not so much for listening, or for any kind of pleasure/mood making. But I knew that before pressing play, didnt I?
I’m afraid I was away the day they did thrash metal.
can't listen to it. Too annoying rock
How can anyone like this music? Can't even hear the lyrics, may as well just be instrumental.
When this album popped up I was pretty sure that I was going to hate it. I was right.

The most important thing to me in rock/metal albums is the chemistry between the guitars, drums and vocals. I feel like there was only one song on this album where I can say that was present 1.5/5
I did catch a glimpse of why some people might enjoy this as I had it playing driving to an appointment when I was late and stressed. The vibe was chaos. But I cannot take seriously the bad music because of the much worse, awful and cringe lyrics. Pissing off the parents by writing a screaming song about a Nazi? Nah.
Not even a half hour in length, but it still felt long. No fucking thank you.
Not my kind of music
Head banging not my favorite genre
Nah m8 respect the music
🎧This will not be the album that gets me into thrash metal. Sick cover art though, metal AF.
- Loud - Hard to tell when a song changed unless it ended - All the songs sounded the same
I'd rather play quake 3 arena
Nope
Well that fucked up my hungover cycle commute. If karma has any say then this lot will be reborn as a soothing acapella folk group.
Seldom enjoyable. Usually unpleasant. Favorite Song: Raining Blood (Guitar Hero 3) 1/10
Don't love the vocals, the guitars go pretty hard sometimes but other times are almost overwhelming for the sake of noise. Melodies all kind of blended together across songs. Did a bit of research on metal subculture and neo-nazis, obviously not all metal music/it's fans support Nazis, but slayer towed the line a little too close... Have to knock off a point for that. Top songs: None?
I respect heavy metal’s place in music history. If you track rock music from the 50s on it is sort of the natural progression to push its sound harder and harder. This music definitely has energy and I guess it was impressive from a technical standpoint, but I just don’t ever see myself getting into heavy metal, and certainly not thrasher metal. Not in this lifetime at least. I did listen to this thing from start to finish, but only because it had a really short runtime. Fav Songs (and I am using the term loosely here) Angel of Death Raining Blood
I thied.
not into metal
no thank you
This sounds like being loud for the sake of being loud. Sometimes there's a bit of guitar sound that's nice, but they usually don't play a compelling melody. The singing is also basically one note.
Not my thing
1.5
Yeah, not my favorite metal album. Music part was ok, but the over the top lyrics made them sound really stupid.
I read that this features in a number of "best" lists - best metal albums, best of 1986, etc so I really tried to be objective. It's very fast. But I hated the vocals and honestly, you can do much nicer things with guitars. Dreadful. Or to quote another, succinct reviewer: "horreur". 0 stars.
I was walking through a park listening to it on my headphones and actually felt guilty to be listening to something so ugly in a pretty place. Fortunately it’s not long so I did listen all the way thought but why is it on the list? If I could score zero, I would
Wow I really dislike this. From the artwork, to the song titles, to the music itself. It just does nothing for me.
Horreur.
Et gros slayer
Nope
Oh so… this is influential on what not to sound like I hope? Thank goodness it was less than half an hour because oh boy. It’s almost funny how bad it was but one more minute and it wouldn’t have been humorous anymore. Such a strange album.
... halfway through the album with headphones still on from somewhere inside my intestines erupted an unholy roar as I shredded off my clothes and sprinted full speed to the front of the house and dove through the window - shattering the pane and leaving screaming children in my wake, all the while having sliced my head in 12 places I felt nothing but the pleasure of the pain as I regained my footing - while drinking my own blood that was pouring down my face and giving me nourishment I ran to the end of the road where i killed that annoying stray dog with my bare hands and started eating the raw meat in the middle of the road and screamed SAAAAAATAAAAANNNNNNNN! to morning commuters ...how's *your* day going? 2/10 1 star
"Reign in Blood is the third studio album by American thrash metal band Slayer." Thrash metal band, need I say more?
This is literally the origin of the metal stereotype… The band members look as you expect. The songs are so short and the lyrics are some of the gimpiest I’ve ever heard. The cover! Why did you need to make a song about Josef Mengele…? This idiot can’t sing. Zero stars if I could. The whole premise of the album is to ask how to annoy parents in the maximum amount possible.
With all due respect, I just don't get it. Never have, never will.
Hope everyone feels better now.
Anger for angry's sake.
Before listening: I've never been a fan of Slayer. They are a bit to Fast Metal for me. And too much shouting and screaming. After listening: Nope, still don't like it. Some of the music was not as bad as I'd expected but the whole thing as a whole is just not my cup of tea.
"My mom calls her vaccum cleaner Slayer, because it has been around since 1986 and it sucked the entire fucking time".
Two metal albums back to back was tough.
I’m not a speed/death metal fan.
Sucky album
I can appreciate that not all art is for everyone, and this album is just not for me. Listening to it felt like possibly the longest 28 minutes of my life. The album starts off with a song about the horrors of Mengele’s human experiments at Auschwitz that really just feels like an exercise in torture porn—it’s the aural equivalent of an Eli Roth movie. And it doesn’t get much better from there. Every song is about death or damnation or persecution (or all three) in the bleakest, most brutal way possible. The music follows in lockstep, relentlessly bombarding you as the singer growls the lyrics so quickly that you can barely make out the words. The speed at which they play is impressive, but there’s not much in the way of melody or even variation. The songs seem to bleed together into one long wall of noise that might just have you begging for death by the end. Again, I appreciate that art is subjective and not everything is for everyone. I can understand why some people are drawn to this type of music—I’m just not one of them. I can appreciate metal as a genre. I don’t mind Metallica, and I quite like a lot of symphonic metal. I’ve just never gotten into the thrash/scream-growl side of it. I’m also a fan of dark lyrics and goth music, so it’s not like I don’t understand the appeal of writing about depression and death and other dark subjects. I think The Cure’s Pornography is quite beautiful despite one music critic’s appraisal of it as “Phil Spector in hell.” But Pornography—and goth generally—has plenty of beauty in both the lyrics and melodies, even if it’s rooted in darkness. There’s none of that here. It’s just brutal and raw anger. I suppose I’m glad this music exists, because I’d hate to think what might happen if someone with this much pent up anger had no artistic outlet for it. But also, maybe just go to therapy?
Fuckiing awful.
😳
When I see an album and think hmmm... heavy metal, I'm not gonna like this, well this is the album I'm talking about. It's got all the screaming that I don't enjoy with the heavy instrumentals that I also don't enjoy. This album made me think that a spider living in my ear laying eggs isn't the worst thing that could happen to the inside of my ears
muy pesado, no me gusto
Ugh
Way too angry for me.
It was a little too intense for me. Felt like there was no time to breathe or think. Just overwhelming.
I generally enjoy Metal, but I have never really enjoyed Slayer. Hearing this record in its entirety did nothing to change that.
No interest. Boring, one dimensional album. Close to 0 out of 5. A 1
Just horrible. No other comments. Horrible.
Please play the guitar faster. Almost every song sounds the exact same. To be honest I skiped around the songs and I couldn't tell the difference between them. They all were nearly identical. 1 star
Not resonating with my taste. The repetitiveness and rawness of the sound and the vocal style don't appeal to me. Despite the commendable guitar performance, the overall experience was not good for me
Just not my jam.
I couldn’t get past the Nazi sympathy on track one to enjoy the rest of the album.
I tried , I listened to two whole songs
See also: the Metallica one
Not my jam
Not my cup of tea
Gave up 3 songs in…I say songs it was the exact same guitar ahd beat but with different lyrics… I say lyrics more a stream of conscious diatribe from an insecure adopted alterboy trying to stick it to the man upstairs
I’m proud of myself for finishing it.
I am sorry, i really gave it a shot. I just cant get behind this sound.
I understand the skills needed to play this but I think this style of music is INCREDIBLY overrated. Reminds me of avid washed jeans and mullets.
Heavy Metal/Thrash. No thanks. 0 out of 5 (1 out of 5 though since a zero isn't allowed).
This is the album I was most dreading coming up in the list. Not only do I hate the genre, musicality(!), vocals et al but it also has dredged up terrible memories of terrible people so the caveat to my score is that I have no impartiality. I cannot downplay my hatred. If I thought other albums have been a chore or a bit wearing this is just downright Purgatory. I spent 30 years blissfully unaware they existed, and I’ve spent the last 25 years avoiding them. Tomorrow I will go back to avoidance tactics. If I could score them zero I would.
Not for me-almost every song has the same intro, the album sounds like one long song. Just never been much of a metal fan, and didn't enjoy this album.
Rain of Shite
nah
Sorry I just can’t listen to this
I should preface this by saying that I've always loved heavy music and still listen to a lot of metal. That said, I hated this album. The guitar solos sound like they've just been pasted in without any regard to the rest of the song, the drums sound cheap, the vocalist is not a great singer, the lyrics are often childish and shoe-horned in without any consideration to cadence, chromaticism has been used as a substitute for creativity etc. I appreciate that it was important at the time for a number of reasons, but it's really not a good listen now.
I don’t listen to nazi shit
Awful.
1001 albums brings yet another album i never wanna hear again!!! I got up to part way through track 3... and lost the will to live.... but eventually I managed to at least part play all tracks on the album. Its all the same... Quite literally the same riffs throughout. Some would say their style is... full of energy... I'd say... full of shite.... You need to be full on stroking the white bunny with a frontal lobotomy and ears full of wax to even consider this type of thrash metal as worth listening too.
No
not my thing
Not for me.
What a theatrical mish mosh of angry screaming. Drums are sometimes interestingly good.
The author has lost it
One positive is that it was only about 30 minutes long. That's about it. The screaming is not necessary or welcomed. I am sure some love it because it is death metal and \"goes hard.\" I just don't see the appeal.
Felt very repetative, loud. Not a fan
Why would I listen to this moronic trash? If they're serious, then as satanists I have no interest in what they have to say. If they're not serious, they are dabbling in things they have no business dabbling in and are complete and utter idiots. Didn't listen. Won't listen. They have nothing worthy of consideration or merit. It bothers me I spent 1-1/2 minutes typing this.
Can’t get down with this type of content. I can appreciate the instrumentation, but that’s about it.
Didn’t like it
I’m sure someone loves this but this album made me feel like I was running full speed into a wall
I was ready for it to be over by the second song. It just got more intense as it went on though. The best part is that it’s only 35 minutes long. The guitar player and drummer are clearly talented, but this just isn’t it for me. I picked Raining Blood as my favorite song because the rain sounds at the beginning and end are nice (even though I guess they’re supposed to be blood which is not so nice). Favorite song: Raining Blood
Meh. It’s Slayer.
Almost certainly the best album on this list
POV you’re waiting in the queue in CEX and you wish you were dead
Not only is this not at all a genre I enjoy, I usually don’t give 1-star just for that, but it is also just actively bad. Almost solely on the vocals which sound like the guy is constantly behind where he wants to be and is trying to catch up to get in rhythm with the instruments. Just overall not a good experience. 2/10
It was pretty boring. I just don’t like metal very much. I should probably go more into it, but that’s mostly what it boils down to.
As bad as jazz
Really tried - thrash metal just isn't my thing. 1/5
Is it over yet?
Just no.
Nope
Um, nope. Awful. Couldn’t finish it. I suppose you’ll either love it or hate it?
Terrible.
Repetitive and screechy. Not my cup of tea
Big nope. I don’t know what they intended but to start right off the bat trying to profit off the atrocities of the Holocaust means I can’t listen any further.
Not for me
Not for me
Not for me
I hate Thrash Metal. Fucking awful.
noise
Horreur.
6th December 2022 Listened while putting the Costco shop away in the morning. Chilled evening watching the Wonder and Traitors. Not my thing. Soz guys.
Brrrr.
Best to pretend this abomination never happened.
Trash
Death metal no
I am getting a headache…
Well that happened.
I just consistently can’t stand metal
After listening to this I suddenly felt the urge to eat babies and have sex with the dead. Fortunately I listened to some ABBA immediately after finishing this album, and those feelings subsided before I was able to act on them. Up until now I've taken the title of this book, "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die," as a given. Now, the question has arisen in my mind: "must" I really have listened to this before I die? Oxford defines the word "must" as "be obliged to; should (expressing necessity)." I believe that listening to this was not a necessity. Not only that, but my death would be a little better for not having heard it. But it's too late now. 1 star, although I did enjoy the slow ballads!
Disturbing. Utterly disturbing.
Listened to on 6/21/22 Favorite song: no I felt like I was being screamed at for a solid 30 minutes and did not enjoy pretty much anything about this album except for the guitar - VERY dark and disturbing
Well this was the epitome of an album I would never like. Horrible throat singing, mashed up noise, and over the top lyrics. Wasn’t a death metal guy before and can confirm I’m still not.
I was going to skip this but I wanted to make sure that thrash metal is amongst the metal genres that 1001 lists as my "least liked".
The themes here about Satan, blood, death etc are so cliched that this almost seems like a parody album, but I think the metal heads that revere this album will be seriously offended by that comment. This record is incredibly repetitive but also mercifully short.
Oh Dear.....Thrash metal, not a genre I like or are comfortable with. Can see very little in this album of credit in my opinion from the initial track "Angel Of Death" No matter how you explain it, it is about Dr Josef Mengele which as far as I am concerned is a no go area for items of entertainment, without proper condemnation, which I don't get from the song. Shock Rock at it's most distasteful. No earworms here.... reminds me of my reaction to post punk Oi! music, the world is not improved by it's existence! A no no from me I am afraid. Shouldn't be on the list.
for sure dude
Each to his own, but this is shockingly awful to me.
The drums make this album unlistenable.
No.
Wtf, I would rather shit in my hands and clap that listen to this!!!!! I finally stopped my ears from bleeding and my eyes have come back into focus now, after three tracks I realise that it is nothing more than noise with some kind of vocal attached to it, it’s a no from me. If I could give it zero I would do so
Opening track, Angel of Death, is obviously about Josef Mengele and his torture experiments in the Auschwitz concentration camp. I read that this was purely about their interest in the matter and they don't condone what happened. It feels a little too close to celebrating and glorifying an absolute tragedy representing one of the worst ever outcomes of humanity's existence. How can you feel alright with it knowing it will probably get into the hands of some neo nazis and become their anthem?? Totally grim. I actually can enjoy some thrash metal although it's not exactly my chosen genre, this makes me not want to listen to the rest of the album though. And it makes me angry. Update: I tried to listen to more of the album (4 more tracks) but I'm too mad, lol bye Slayer!
Eugh this was annoying on so many levels. Not just the terribly placed first track that Grace has described just all of it so unpleasant, how can you describe it any other way
What a load of shit. In the same way WWE is just a soap opera for hard men, this just consumer pop music for scary hard people
Monotonous and boring. Not a fan of instrument jerking.
Not my genre so can’t speak to why this record merits attention -- maybe the technical proficiency or speed of the playing? The extreme and outlandish nature of this record doesn’t make it worth knowing (in my view). The best that can be said is that you can barely hear the lyrics, which are apparently shocking. I hope these people are okay. Or were they just posing?
Not for me.
Appalling rubbish. Can't tell one track from another. Mad guitar - very fast but out of rhythm and key. Who likes this stuff apart from sad 13 year old loners?
Man, these vocals suck.
Stupid from start to finish. ZERO stars if it were possible.
Wow, this may be the greatest thrash metal album ever composed! … But, my ear holes say “No!”
I expected this to be shocking and it was. I was shocked by how boring it is. Next!
Every song the same
Ich verstehe es einfach nicht
i hate thrash metal
Hated it
Just when I thought there was nothing worse than the Iggy Pop album. Are negative numbers allowed?
Boring af. Mostly very uninteristing guitarplay; the riffs are uninspired and the solos seem perfunctory. Within a song, the vocals sound the same throughout, no inflection at all. The lyrics seem to be nothing more than strings of "badass" sounding words. OK, it was heavy for its time, but what else?? Like or dislike, the other albums so far at least had interesting parts.
A little heavy for me
I am pretty sure if I don't hear this album before I die everything will be okay
