Reviews (page 6 of 8)

Like having your brain cleaned out with a bottle brush to the ears. Left me reeling.

Rating: 2.2 This is just butt rock for guys who never went to church. Or perhaps did go to church and caught the preacher fucking their mom.

If anyone is actually reading these, that Sabbath response was written at the end of 2 hours chugging through Dover to get to the ferry. Should have given it at least 3, maybe 4. Anyway, 'Reign in Blood' was influential in its day and it does a few limited things very well, but it just highlights for me how much better those early Metallica and Megadeth albums were. 'South of Heaven' is a much better Slayer album to try. I can't imagine choosing to listen to this. 'Master of Puppets' came out in the same year and is light years ahead. This app is starting to get me down. I like loads of music in various genres, but none of the stuff this app keeps choosing!

This was ok, but misses any points of interest. The first time I looked to see what song was playing was when the album was finished and a 'related' song came on.

'Destroying w/o mercy / To benefit the Aryan race.' The songs are short and Dave Lombardo's drumming is a mess of punky dynamism, but the lyrics cannot be thicker, and the ideas, if you can call them that, more flatly unimaginative. Reign In Crud, mostly.

This is pretty lame. It reeks of guys I went to high school with that thought their music tastes were elite because they listened to this shit. Some of the drums sound pretty bad ass but that is it

I understand why metal fans love Slayer. They are completely uncompromising in their approach compared to the other big metal bands. I think if you aren't a purest metal fan though this will be a challenging listen.

Some riffs are cool but mostly noise that probably would have been better without vocals, probably will never listen to it again but give it 2 stars for the slayer memes

Did you know that Tom Araya is a practising Catholic? Yeah, he should be papally excommunicated.

Drum fills amazing. High octane screamo. Won’t revisit

I wasn't a fan of this one. Maybe I'm not huge on thrash metal, but I do enjoy much of Metallica and Megadeth's early music. I'm not sure if it's because there wasn't much variety here, or what, but I didn't find this album to be that great.

LOVE it for what it is but it’s not for me. But i respect tf out of it.

This felt like standing under a firehose of noise, aggression, and technical fury for 29 hammering minutes. Before I could process what the hell was happening, it was thankfully over. I'm still catching my breath, wondering if I need a shower, a Vyvanse, a priest, or all three. The sheer tightness is impressive, but the relentlessness blurred the tracks together for me.

Nothing to really hook me here. I need a bit more melody or riffs or something in my metal. 4/10

I could listen to any one of these songs as a one off, but as an album it didn’t click with me. Too same-sy and lacking melody.

I did not like this. It was so over the top, it felt like a parody.

Not my genre, and did not surprise me as others in this book have. Two stars.

I’ve heard of Slayer, but I don’t think I’ve ever listened to any of their songs before. Somehow though, if you’d ask me to name a Slayer song, the only one I’d be able to name is “Raining Blood,” but I’d be hard pressed to identify it if I heard it. Regardless, I think thrash metal is fun, but so far, Master of Puppets has stood out as the gold standard of thrash metal albums I’ve enjoyed. I expect this album to probably land in the three-star range with me, where Rust in Peace Landed with me. I didn’t care for this Reign in Blood very much. My biggest complaint is that most of this album sounded the same from song to song, and the lyrics weren’t really something that I connected with. The guitar playing and drumming were really good from a technical standpoint, but there wasn’t enough on this album to reel me in, and it’s certainly not something that I’d listen to again. I think it was well executed, but it’s just not interesting to me. Sadly, the last two tracks, “Postmortem” and “Raining Blood” were my favorite songs on the album, but that’s not saying a whole lot. They were the only two songs that had any semblance of a unique sound to them, and I thought their guitar riffs were pretty good. The segue from “Postmortem” into “Raining Blood” was really good though, and I liked the rain and thunder sounds that were used. I thought it was pretty to see why “Raining Blood” is the most notable song on this album, because it really outshone every other song on here. This was my last album from the big four of thrash, and sadly, the big four will be going out with a whimper in my book.

Jag ser appealen, framförallt i de mest populära låtarna. Fast blir tröttsamt i längden. Då gillade jag Rage against the Machine mer.

Not my cup of tea but I can see the appeal. Jesus Saves was the most listenable imo.

Some of these riffs go pretty hard, but I've never heard such unconvincing "satanists" in my life. I feel as though the Calvin and Hobbes strip where he says "Mainstream commercial nihilism can't be trusted?" is based on Slayer.

Hard to know when one track ended and another began but at least it was short.

It was a bit much.

I heartily dislike metal but I found this tolerable as it was a fairly brief album. Didn't like it, but it didn't annoy me.

Just not my thing

Kind of just sounds like a lot of noise to me.

It's always a good idea to thoroughly rehearse your presentation so that it feels fluid and natural when it's time to perform for others. Here, Slayer is playing through their songs too quickly—a sure sign of nervousness that indicates they were not fully prepared. This makes the songs themselves difficult to understand and is the reason the album finished much earlier than the audience anticipated.

Did not like this one.

Not my kind of metal but I enjoyed it.

3/10…trash / speed metal

I really did not dislike *Reign In Blood* as much as I was expecting. Slayer was the only band I the big four of thrash that I never really got into. Most of it stems from absolutely hating *Hell Awates* when I first heard it back in '85. I really never gave them a chance afterwards. Listening to this I really did enjoy some of the thrash riffs which did remind me a lot of Metallica in the early to mid 80s. But I think what really put me off is Tom Araya's vocal Style. Unlike Hetfield, he's not very melodic. He mostly just screams in a stream of conscious. When he got into a good fast riff in his style I could somewhat get into it but as a whole it's nothing I really like listening to. 5.5/10 ★★½

Really not my favourite style. I don't like thrash metal. 2 stars

Another metal album. This one is much closer to what I'm after - some thumping percussion and and a ready supply of mile-a-minute guitar performances. There's a simple pleasure to this kind of music, though I think the musical stylings of metal make the genre very deeply restrictive. From the plebian ears of a non-metal enthusiast every song on here sounds exactly the same to me. Still, I can hardly complain about an album that is 29 minutes in length. The vocal performances on this album are very hard for me to follow at points - especially during the second half. Kinda disappointing as I appreciate the campy, gothic, medieval themes of metal.

Occasionally I like metal but I don’t think I like thrash. Too chaotic for me.

I recognize the technical quality and some of the riffs are cool but, although I like some other stuff in the genre, Slayer has just never ever connected for me. It's almost felt very sterile somehow.

Added point for being short. The speed is impressive, but I just don't care.

I'm not totally indifferent to Metal but things like Thrash Metal is among one of those subgenres of metal I don't find entirely interesting, I mean much of it chugs guitars and plays drums in a way I'm not too interested in (And the best time I've had with it is when it got more varied. Obviously, I hate this feeling of mild okay-ness with something because the album Isn't bad obviously, this album packs many cool riffs, goes crazy, it's dark and gritty, it's everything you'd want out of some true blue 80s metal! But for me only a few songs REALLY stand out and just do it for me because they have more going on to the riffs or the ideas in songs, I guess I feel like this is just a faster and heavier version of some other things I've head which can be cool but on the whole I'm not too crazy about their sound here, but who knows I could change my tune later down the line

Usually I'm partial to heavy metal and also relatively newer music. But for whatever reason it didnt really click with me. Also would have preferred a longer album.

# 444 : 26/03/2025 : I'm not into the real shouty heavy stuff, but this wasn't too bad. Too many guitar shredding solos for my liking.

Ah yes. The subtle art of twatting a load of drums and guitars as hard and fast as possible while screaming about blood and nazis and death and possibly religion for three minutes at a time. Damn this challenge is long...

Not a fan.

There are some moments when parts of some songs in this album sound fairly nice but the majority of it is just a complete nightmare. I would not recommend listening to this while trying to focus or working on something that is really slow (my work computer was a great example of this), as the songs are very high tempo, so writing this was great because nothing was freezing and I was very fast, but replying to a work email on my work computer was so annoying because I would start typing and Outlook would freeze and the song would just keep going and basically nudge you to continue. Overall, a bit meh and pretty much all songs sounded very similar.

I'm sure Slayer is the best at what they do. I chuckled at the lyrics a few times. Raining Blood is probably my favorite track on this. This isn't something I would revisit, but it seems well made.

Oof so noisy

I like it when these bands have elements of, or passages of, nice harmony and melodic playing, just to show they can do it. It tricks you into thinking the noise must mean something as it's not the only string to their bow. Take Picasso. He spent years actually painting properly before he moved to drawing all women like Wayne Rooney. Megadeth actually do it on Rust in Peace. Metallica do it. So a big problem is the absolute lack of any variety whatever, or even hinting that they have melodic chops. Yes the guitar player can shred. It's technically proficient. But it's devoid of any affinity with the song, and any solo can be lifted and placed in any other song. It's more Napalm Death than Megadeth. 'Jesus Saves' has a pretty good power chords intro - actually sensed a bit of what Nirvana were doing on 'In Utero' in this. But when he starts singing it's back to formula - epileptic mode is activated as the drummer goes double time, and the guitar solos some random shred. There are a few decent bits - generally when there's no singing and no guitar soloing. And ITS NOT PANTERA. For that I'll scrape it a two.

I like heavy music, I do - but I didn’t like this. Really at all. Bummer.

Not for me

Terror ball that has its place in someone's heart, just not mine.

Not really for me

Guitars seem both super loud but also hard to hear... I think I'm spoiled by modern mixing. The jntro holocaust track is odd. I don't really see an artistic angle here, it's just describing the horrors people went through??

Not as bad as we expected but wouldn't choose to listen to it

It’s just not my deal. Solid guitar work of course.

I love hard rock and metal. But never been into the superfast thrash metal that this album represents. No real melody, indecipherable lyrics. On many occasions it seemed the band couldn't manage to keep in rhythm with itself!!. I assume it's on the 1001 list because it was "groundbreaking". Possibly in the same way as an album of white noise would be, or 45 minutes of drilling? However! I gave this album 3 listens and it did grow on me a bit. Besst track Jesus Saves

Relentless, it all sounds the same, no differentiation between the songs. If you're into this, it would be good....

Omg, well I usually listen to every album at least twice but there is no need with this one. It holds very little of interest for me, and really the screaming and the lyrics tip it well over in to ludicrous territory. The occasional discernible pleasing riff and I appreciate they have skill but this genre is not for me

Like okay, It wasn't as bas as I thought I'd be sure but that wasn't a high bar in the first place. Idk what the vocals/lyrics were supposed to be. Having Pantera and Sepultura come up next didn't help much because that means the singing doesn't HAVE to be ass they just chose so.

Thrash metal all sounds the same to me. The riffs on some songs were great, but not enough to make this listenable. Stand-out: Raining Blood

Raining blood should be the opener for this album. Bizarre decision to put it mid album! It’s all very much one tempo but that is thrash metal, or it was at the start. Other bands did it better but maybe not as fast. This album is too monotonous for me despite being a metal fan.

Album 639 of 1001 Slayer - Reign In Blood (1986) Rating : 2/ 5 Not really my cup of tea but still listenable. The biggest plus was the shredding guitars and the fact that the album is only just over 27 minutes long.

I can only take Slayer in small doses. Typical thrash metal.

Umm, not my cuppa tea really. I mean maybe if I took up arc-welding or something.

not a metal girly but it's alright, 2.5 maybe men om jag ska vara ärlig så lyssnade jag inte på hela

Never really cared for Slayer in the past, but I figured I'd give this an honest shot. While the guitar work is definitely top-notch, and I love metal in all it's various types, this just isn't doing it for me. I _hate_ the vocals so much. It just sounds like the band wrote a bunch of songs, and the singer came in and yelled a bunch of silly poetry on top, not even on the beat half the time. And I'd love it if the drums did anything other than blast beats 90% of the time. So...not for me.

I was never really into Metal, and Thrash Metal is worse.

I have tried this one a few times. Did like it better this time. Very intense though.

Weak metal

The kind of music they made so your mom could tell you to turn it down

Blech. I didn’t enjoy this one much, but I guess the technical skills are there for playing at a high rate of speed. I can rock but need a bit of melodic beauty to temper the chaos.

So edgy, I cut myself several times. I can't take it seriously. Raining Blood was alright, I guess. It had a discernable melody.

Raining bloodin (oho vau sanaleikki albumin nimessä) kitara on sairas!

A mäh!

Dadadadada...

Maybe I should stop listening to these while working, but this just merged into one big mush of heavy guitar. Nothing even remotely standing out. Simpsons: No

I have heard of slayer before but never really listened to them. I do like some metal music but I think this was just too much for me.

I felt like thrash metal might be my mood yesterday. It was okay. A about Mengele and the holocaust for shock value didn’t sit right with me. You can say it’s to educate and inform but I don’t believe you, you just want to be an edgy boy.

I like metal, but I'm not a huge fan of speed metal or nu metal. This is just a bit too frantic for me.

njaa jag kan inte riktigt gilla detta

This was hard for me to get through. I am apparently not a fan of thrash metal. I can appreciate this for what it is, but to my ears, all the songs sound the same. It just sounds like harshness for the sake of harshness. Would not listen again.

It’s just not really exciting to me.

I like metal music, but the lyrics always come up short for me. Not sure what I'm hoping for, but I guess this wasn't it.

If there were half stars I’d give this a 2.5. Not my thing but I can see why people like it.

screamo but its oddly satisfying right now. Let's see if this is tolerable.

The average song on this album goes Thrash, Thash, Thrash, Thrash, Death, Thrash, Thrash, Thrash, Terror, Thrash, SLAYER!!!!, Thrash, Thrash, Thrash. I got old by track 2. 2/5

Not my speed.

I've tried to listen to it before, but it's just not my thing. I know this is a thrash metal classica and it's going to ding my metal cred, but here goes. Don't like the singer or the lyrics. All the songs sound pretty damn similar. 2.5* rounded down.

Reign in Blood isn’t nearly as offensively bad as I expected. Songs about nazi psychopaths (they are not pro nazi), witches getting their revenge, I can dig. The Satan stuff is comically stereotypical. Overall it’s fast, short. Nothing dynamic about it 3.9/10

Great for those times you need to break a detainee. Guaranteed to speed up any CIA interrogation.

No idea when anybody would listen to this!

While Slayer is one of the most influential metal bands of the last 50 years, I've never been able to take them seriously. When this first came out, I was scared of it, but once I listened, it sounded very amateurish and pedestrian. The upshot is that we got the tastiest guitar riff on "Raining Blood".

I did not enjoy it, but some of it is not as bad as I feared. For instance Necrophobic was pretty bad but Angel of Death did not completely assault my ears. Guitar riffs were actually pretty good. But no thanks...I don't need to hear about death, violence and love for satan on the regular.

This is probably really great Thrash metal if you are into that sort of thing. Which I am not. I can appreciate the complex guitar work but after about 20 seconds of each song I'm done with it.

Well. At least that’s out of the way.

Annoying

Narp. Not for me. I bet they’re lovely and gentle in real life but in song they are a bit dramatic.

Not my preferred brand of metal. Kinda rough around the edges. Postmortem is a pretty good song though.

Not as bad as I thought it would be but still not for me.

OK album. These thrash metal albums go pretty hard, but there's something a bit cringey about them. I've had 3 of the 4 big thrash metal acts with only Anthraxx left. Rankings are Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica thus far. **

thankfully short, just can’t get into this kind of music

Only really like raining blood

Every song sounds the same. Even at 28 minutes it got boring.

The one great thing about this album is that most of the songs are fairly short. For a metal album, it is pretty good. The problem is, for me, that I don't think metal is avery good genre. Hard to love.

The thunderstorm sounds and atmosphere of the closing track reminded me of sitting out on the porch on a quiet summer night listening to the rain. Then I looked down at the track name, and realized that those pleasant droplets were BLOOD! Imagine that ‘blood’ in some very metal font and actually dripping red.

Can appreciate this as Reagan era rage bait but it’s pretty insubstantial and lyrically cringe, even if it is meant to be tongue in cheek.

"Strangulierung, Verstümmelung, Krebs des Gehirns, Sektion von Gliedmaßen, Amputation von einem geistig Verwirrten..." Leider gibts kein Video dazu.

It was okay - not as bad as I expected.

Does that cover look like AI-generated art to anyone else?

not for me

this is just an endurance test for me, all thrash no humor or variation not something I need to revist.

Fast, fast, not interesting, but ok as background music ...

Not a fan. I can appreciate the technique required to play this fast, but it really just sound like noise. Everything just blends together for me.

all the songs sound the same 2/5

I liked the Tori Amos cover of the title track.

Hmmm. Too angry for me today.

Schon ziemlich trashig. Gute Gitarren-Riffs mit viel Geschrei. 2/5

Can appreciate that it's probably good but not really my jam

I prefer their ballads

Cant deny the skills of the drummer and the guitarist in this work - they are off the charts. Not my cup of tea - would not listen again. 2 stars for personal preference, but would give a 3 or 4 for the musical skills.

I do like some heavy metal that has a musical lilt to it... this is not it

If this list is making me learn one thing, it is that I do not like thrash metal

I can't fault the energy, but this was pretty shite

Not really my vibe, just wanted them to slow down butvthen they wouldn't have enjoyed it so!

Absolute tosh, but it could be quite entertaining if you're in the right mood. Drummer only knows one drum beat, the singer only has the notes he wrote during his maths class and the guitarist had lovely hair.

Was this deliberately "randomly" selected as our group's 666th album? 🤔 Some days you just need to let your hair down, mosh around and scream fuck yeah! ...I was exhausted after 10 minutes!

Metal thrasher is incredibly goofy to me. Like what are you so mad about? Calm down? Like I can’t comprehend that people are into this unless it’s for a joke. Anyways, this was tough to get through. It’s probably pretty good for metal but seems like they’re a bit… sympathetic towards some problematic tings.

As a non metal fan I did think this wasn't that bad at all actually, but maybe a bit too much for the morning commute

I liked a lot of the guitar, but the high pitched wailing and dumb lyrics spoiled it.

I didn't enjoy any of this, which is interesting because I do like some other bands from this genre/era (like Metallica, Pantera, etc). It's like this band included all the parts I'm not psyched about (the rage) and excluded all the parts I do like (melody, interesting rhythms).

I understand the appeal, and this could be a 3 star rating if the lyrics weren't so dumb.

This might be the first metal album this list has spat out where I didn't mind the music - made me think of At the Drive In, System of a Down, or even Queens of the Stone Age - but the dumb, body horror lyrics were giving serious 12 year old who thinks he's edgy vibes.

Para mí, es un rock demasiado duro.

A little too much for me, but I am glad that I gave it a chance

I guess I can appreciate that it was over quickly, and it made me laugh a few times. Unfortunately it prioritizes speed over actually sounding good for the most part. Raining Blood is about the only song I could pull out of a line up here. I don't know, thrash metal has never done it for me. I'm alright having listened to it once, might come back to Raining Blood if the mood strikes. Feels like a solid 2 overall.

Thought this would be unlistenable, and the vocals are, but the guitar playing is intricate and interesting.

A generous 2. Just too noisy, not my bag at all. I'm learning anything heavier than Metallica is inaccessible for me

I've always liked heavy music, but lots of the metal albums on this list have been new to me. This one is okay but doesn't hook you in the same way as '...And Justice For All' does. The songs all sound a bit too similar. Postmortem was good though.

The music hit me more like punk/thrash, which I like. The lyrics are just plain dopey. I know, I'm not their target audience (anymore). Hail Satan!

Not my style of music unfortunately

ACK! No, just no. I listened to half a song, then skimmed a few more. This kind of stuff just has no appeal for me.

seems good, maybe not my favorite kind of metal? will listen more

Not my thing.

3/10 just absolute cringe the kind of thing that can only exist in a satire making fun of metal heads

Too heavy metal for my taste.

I would just never listen to this for a lotta reasons

Not my type of music. Won’t lie, vocals and guitar go hard though Top tracks: Raining Blood

I get why others like this, but it’s not my style. Talk singing with some shredding can only keep me interested so long.

I like the fast pace. Everything else can suck it. Not my style. Instinct said to give it a 1 but the speed/skill of the drums and guitars deserves something.

It’s not that good

It's really not my vibe. I have to be in the mood for heavy metal music. That said the composition is nice.

Filing under albums I would never have listened to but for this list, that I'm glad to have listened to but will never listen to again, and that I have no idea how to review. Kind of great in some ways, laughable in others (man, those lyrics...). 2.5?

Slayer sounds good at what they’re trying to accomplish. If I liked this genre of music, I could see a much higher resting but this is my least favorite genre. Rating: 1.7

Like so many other metal albums here, I love the guitars but the vocals are just bad. Seriously metal bands, hire some good vocalists.

Not a big fan of metal. Some catchy guitar riffs but this style isn’t my favorite

TBH most of it was pretty forgettable, and there were 2 songs missing (sort it out), but it does have Raining Blood.

pretty chill

4/10, no more metal please :(

Nie dla mnie

Not my style. It’s heavy. Questionable on the lyrical content; on listening comes across as very white supremacist, had to do extra reading to see external thoughts. Won’t be on my playlist, but it has its place.

It’s good for a cardio workout. I didn’t listen to the words much and every song sounded the same.

I struggle to take this music seriously. I also can't imagine playing this music everyday — as a musician. I can't imagine listening to it everyday, but as a listener, you at least have alternatives if another mood strikes. But making this music day after day after day? I can't relate. And I was initially at a 3-star, I mean, whatever, not my thing but people seem to like it. But at what felt like the 12th reference to dismemberment, I realized there seems to be maybe three ideas banging around this album that just keep getting rehashed — and just barely.

Not my favorite, I only like metal with a good melody

Not for me

Oh look, another album where Rick Rubin hangs around in the recording studio and chimes in with an occasional, "Sounds pretty good" and demands a producer credit. If John Bender from The Breakfast Club ever got out of detention, he'd listen to this and tell everyone it's his favorite album. It ain't my bag at all, probably because I never had a chain wallet and John Bender reminds me of a kid I from high school who was an absolute dick. I'm sure that asshole lives for this album. I hope that isn't true, mainly because I sort of hope he's dead.

The drums and guitar are amazing. The lyrics and vocals are no bueno.

Laughed out loud throughout listening to this album because the lyrics and tone are ridiculous. The thunderclaps at the end are absurd. However you cannot deny the awesomeness of that guitar and the power of the drummer, holy shit.

I remember kinda liking Slayer back in the day. But this just didn't do anything for me.

trash metal is just not for me. 5.5/10

This is the soundtrack to my older brother beating me up when I was a kid. His passion for Slayer was akin to his passion for making my life difficult. Although some of the musicianship seems decent, to me Slayer will always be enablers of shitty big brother behaviour.

The musical equivelant of someone who doesn't know how to play Street Fighter mashing buttons - occasionally you'll see some cool stuff but its mostly just chaos.

Highlights: "Raining Blood" An attempt to outdo earlier heavy metal acts that succeeds in the wrong ways and comes out parody. Pretty monotonous and unmusical. Putting the snare so high in the mix on the offbeat is rough, but the guitar solos are the worst part: misguided maximalism that's not on the beat, doesn't have a melodic arc, doesn't regard the key, and recycles a handful of patterns and techniques over and over. When the vocals do this, sputtering as he rushes to finish an unrhyming couplet, it's at least funny.

Eh, I kinda already knew that I didn't like Slayer much. This album was enlightening for sure since I've not listened to much Slayer before this, but it did just confirm what I already figured as much. It's rather shouty, the drums are way too similar each song blasting the snare over and over again, I feel like there is practically no melody in the vocals. Maybe I'm being too reductive or harsh, but I do still feel Slayer is just not for me. I can respect the guitar playing a decent amount, but I generally would still prefer most other types of metal over thrash I think. All in all, would not listen to again.

boring af...

Not my thing

Slightly faster, slightly angrier Metallica. The lyrics are just comical - maybe this sounded heavy and cool back when it came out, but now wow this sounds pretty lame. Even listening to this at the gym it barely gave me anything to push myself, just couldn’t stop from thinking how silly it sounds. Guitar work is impressive, as is the drumming. Pretty sure I’d take Megadeth or Anthrax over this any day though.

slayer did not go home; they go so hard on reign in blood. a little too hard for my own tastes; i'm not entirely sure i've heard music like this before. of course, i'm sure that there's many people who love their thrash metal and satanic lyrics. it was far from bad music, and i know they were early to this scene with this album's release in 1986. a precursor for sure, but like many early influences, it's not quite as good as the later music. so i'm left with appreciation!

Okay, so I enjoy metal music. But I guess I draw the line at thrash metal because for me this album is NOT. This had elements of Metallica's style, but without any kind of discernible beat. That said, this arrived in 1986 and clearly sets a standard for more hardcore thrash metal that would take on a life of its own into the 90s and 2000s.

Not my shit tbh but I didn’t find this enjoyable to listen to and unlike other thrash bands it didn’t have any hooks

Not really into speed metal except for Metallica’s older stuff

Ekki alveg minn tebolli. Þokkalegir sprettir hér og þar.

not my cup of tea tbh, seems a bit boring

Didn’t hate as much as I thought I would but gets quite boring quite quickly

Not one of the songs went “Slayer” (halo) Was an ok album was more rock like than much of the pat albums.

Meh. I can't put my finger on the exact reason(s) why, but this rubs me the wrong way. It feels more like noise than music.

Appreciate this album, its place in history and Rubin's influence, but it's not for me.

To fast for me

Does exactly what it says on the tin, its a Slayer album. 35 minutes is usually a quite short album but for something at this breakneck speed it actually feels like its a bit too long, I reckon they could definitely have got the point across in 20 minutes

Haha! Yesterday’s choice was Getz/Gilberto very mellow, quiet samba jazz album and today it’s noisy thrash metal from Slayer - literally sublime to ridiculous. Too noisy and thrashy for my taste (same as for recent Sepultura, Megadeath, Anthrax, some Metallica, etc). Thankfully over within 30 minutes.

It's kind of loud! LOL.. Good for what it is, but not my thing. 2.5

honestly more enjoyable than i thought it would be. instrumentation is craaazy, not keen on the vocals though. understand the influence this has however. would be 2.5 stars if i could

When I read this album was produced by Rick F Rubin, I thought it might be a bit palpable to the Metallica loving side of me. Well, I would say it’s a sprinkle, or a dash. There are moments of Metallic metal, such as partially through “Epidemic,” but melody and rhythm are drowned out by the relentless thrash. I need to be angrier.

Thrash metal is gross

Well the music was actually OK, some amazing guitar solos and the drummer was insane. Bit the singing, or should I say shouting, was not so good! And so angry! Also a hit repetitive. Not sure I will be listening again anytime soon!

Slayer metal is too metal for me

'80s metal stays losing. idk thrash has never been my thing, but I'd still pick metallica over these guys any day. All that speed & momentum, and nothing interesting done with it. Also they're setting off my Dad Rock alert, where the lyrics and themes probably freaked out a lot of parents when this first came out, but these days it just seems cute

What an absolute racket. I'm certain a lot of people will really love this but it's too much for me.

Slayer is overroepen.

I didn’t hate it. There are a couple of good riffs and I like that it’s short, brutal and to the point. But it’s a bit *too* thrashy for me, and too samey to boot. It’s probably not something I’d choose to listen to again. Raining Blood brings back happy Guitar Hero memories though. 2.5

Loud, hard and fast. 2.5

In the immortal words of Marcus Brody, "I'd rather spit in your face."

This starts out very rough and gets better and better as the album goes on. It peaks at the very end with the transition from the strong "Postmortem" into the excellent "Raining Blood". But overall that means something like 20% of the album is of good quality. I think it's helpful on this one to compare it to Metallica, because they're sonically very similar. Metallica got better and better with their composition, sound quality and production value on each of their first four albums, and with the sound quality and production value on Black Album as well. Relative to that trajectory, I'd locate "Reign in Blood" somewhere between "Kill 'Em All" and "Ride the Lightning", and closer to the former than the latter. It's played largely like punk rock - they basically get into a super-fast thrash groove in 5th gear and stay there. There's nothing with either the depth of composition or change-of-pace that e.g. "Fade to Black" provides. Until the last two tracks, they don't really play around too much with even multiple grooves per song, let alone varying the sound. And their production quality is low - the singer is just OK, the sound quality is DIY-level poor, and they don't do hardly anything with the instrumentation. It sounds like they got in the studio and just banged it out - which is an aesthetic, but not one I like. The last two tracks were a strong finish though.

Heavy riffs and guitar solos, didn’t / couldn’t pay attention to the lyrics. Went by fast so that’s good?

Always enjoyed the title track but the rest of the album was more challenging. Not really my cup of tea.

Fun riffs. 2.5/5

At the risk of sounding like an auld fart, after track 3 I was looking to see how much more I needed to listen to. I have a headache.

Muy rápido. Aburrido. Estresante.

Best Song: Raining Blood. A recognizable riff that launched a thousand video game rock band simulators. Worst Song: Necrophobic. The whole song it felt like the lead singer was struggling to keep up with the pace of the rest of the band, giving the whole song a sort of back-foot awkwardness that makes everything feel off balance in a bad way. Overall: Given how passionate, how dramatic, how intense metal music can be due to the freedoms of the genre, I am always disappointed to find an album that's so boring. Try something different! Be weird! But don't just plod along with this morose seriousness. This album is like a drive through the worst kind of rural highways, maybe somewhere in Saskatchewan. Sure, the drive might be a little faster than the posted speed limit, but there isn't anything interesting to look at along the way. The road doesn't even bend or turn. It just goes and goes until you find yourself wondering "are we there yet?"

Boring and monotonous

Wanted to like this but it just hurt my brain

No me atrapó

No me asusta nada.

I can never connect with the music through the anger.

So I finally have now heard a Slayer album. And they are thrash without the talent. Boring riffs, terrible vocals. Even Raining Blood sucked. Granted, I'm not huge on thrash, but there's a notable difference and enjoyment level between this, and say, Metallica or Megadeth.

What i expected

Not bad for a genre I never listen to, but not my taste

No thanks, not for me.

Almost comical. Seems a lot longer than it is because it is so monotonously aggressive.

Guitar was goid and while I didn't dislike it, I didn't exactly enjoy it either. I appreciated that it was short and to the point though!

Exhausting

Blood, die, die in blood

Not my thing. Heavy metal.

It was an ok metal album. Incredibly short. Some of the guitar riffs were good and memorable. The lyrics were a bit too far off for me. 4.9/10

Some cool drum parts.. but I've always said, Slayer sucks

Starting this record now. It's the first one that I've honestly wondered whether I can make it through the whole thing. I'll just say this - I don't listen to a lot of metal. But I've heard metal that I like way more than this. It just doesn't impress me as that great. Once you bring a double-kick pedal into things, the music degrades quickly. I like super heavy music that is made using more conventional rock tones/instruments/technology. Like, If you need more gain than a Les Paul through a Plexi, you're probably seeking some real dumb guitar tone. And, don't get me started on china crash cymbals. But, this is better than that Metallica record we listened to a few weeks ago.

Wow. I hate this. It sounds like a parody and makes me want to yell at my parents that they don't understand me. Raining Blood is kind of sweet though. Probably 1.5 but I'll give it a 2 because of Raining Blood.

it's not for me lads

It's too fast for me. I get that speed is one of the defining characteristics of thrash metal but in this case there's not much else here apart from the speed. Technically the album is solid, but that's not enough to peak my interest.

Technically difficult, but thrash is paradoxically boring if it has no intensity variation. RAWR RAH ARRHEHR RAH RAH RAH RAH RARARARARAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! for 38 minutes, becomes background noise after three minutes. The last track is ok. Metallica is much more consistent at recognizing this.

Another band I really never heard when they were getting airplay and were talked about by some friends. I don't really connect with hard-driving thrashy metal like this, but I can absolutely appreciate how difficult this music is to play. Certainly doesn't lack energy.

only got one track!

Not as awful as I expected but only enjoyed parts of it. Never a whole song either. It was ok, there's plenty worse out there. Enjoyed some of the riffage. 2*

Right on the edge of too heavy. Enjoyed some of the music but the songs were better when there was no singing.

metal . nothing pops out to me

I don't really know what to do with this album. I'm going to try to split the difference, which is probably the wrong thing to do. Musically, this owns. However, there's a Nazi problem. The opening track is named after and makes explicit references to Josef Mengele, who experimented on prisoners at Auschwitz. If you read or listen to the lyrics, they stop short of glorifying him; in fact, it's kind of just their usual shtick with the inspiration coming from a different source. In an interview, Jeff Hanneman basically said, "We didn't say he was bad because it's self-evident." It's clear they're following the same playbook that was so successful for them when it came to Satanic Panic: Create the controversy, fan the flames of it by issuing some non-denial denials, and earn street cred with the rebellious teenagers that make up the core of their fanbase. Are they literal Nazis? Maybe not. Probably not. But they sure didn't have any problems using Nazi imagery on multiple occasions to move records and merchandise, so they can fuck right off. Best track: Raining Blood

Kirjaimellisesti raskasta kuunneltavaa. Oman genrensä kärkinimiä toki, joten miljoonan kärpäsen ansiosta yksi tähti lisää.

It’s cool. Very high energy and intense. Not for me personally but I hear the appeal.

Not for me at all. Had the benefit of being short and fast paced

Enough metal already

God I hate metal so much

Speed rock / death metal is never going to be good to me

I appreciate what they're doing but I do not enjoy metal at all.

this was hot garbage. very gross

Awful. The guitars are cool but I cannot enjoy this style of vocals, which is not singing. This is definitely what differentiates Metallica and Megadeth from Slayer at the advent of Thrash Metal. I need the singing.

Did Not Listen - No Interest

Niet echt mn ding

Album #158 Slayer: Reign In Blood Yesterday I was given a 28-minute album, one ‘Elvis Presley’ by Elvis Presley; and though it was hardly my favourite album ever, I couldn’t help but think that it would be hard for an album that short to offend me. Well, today I received yet another 28-minute ordeal, this time its length was not enough to save it. Okay, maybe its length helped a little, because if this thing were an hour it may have been my least favourite album on this list so far; and I wouldn’t say that ‘offend’ is the right word for this either, more so ‘cringe’. The album immediately lets you know its entire schtick on the first track, just mindlessly babbling shit that sounds offensive or risky, almost like a child trying to conjure up something to say to seem dangerous in the schoolyard. Yes, we get it, you talk about the Holocaust and Satanism, your music is really different than all of these other mainstream bands. I get how, for 1986, this would be an insane thing to hear for many people, but considering the reputation that this album has, I sort of expected my ears to be bleeding in pain after hearing this; instead, I really just felt bored. There is almost no variation in the songs, to the point where I didn’t even realize a new song had started multiple times, and I understand that may be down to me not listening to this type of music much, but even then, when I listen to jazz, I can still draw a line between tracks. I understand people liking this, I really do, it’s the same thing as enjoying straight gore horror movies as a kid, it’s just a way of feeling something that doesn’t exist in your own boring life, which is why most goth kids come from the suburbs. What I am surprised about, though, is how critically loved this is. Thrash metal, in general, to me seems like some pretty low-brow music. Not to look down upon it since I enjoy my fair share of low-brow media, but it is weird to me that this is seen as good, but God forbid a band use synthesizers. Best Songs: Raining Blood, Altar of Sacrifice, really nothing else Worst Song: Angel Of Death Score out of 10: 3

Not for me . Just noise . Every track started the same . Thank goodness it was only 28 minutes long .

Put off listening to this because I knew it would be dogshit, finally bit the bullet and it was confirmed.

Reign in Blood by Slayer was always going to be a tough listen for me, so I was very thankful to discover it only lasts 29 minutes. There really isn’t much I can say about this album because it is completely not my thing. It’s loud, aggressive, relentless and honestly just exhausting from start to finish. I can appreciate that it was probably hugely influential within thrash metal, but musically I found very little to connect with here. The speed and intensity never really let up, and after a while every track blended into one long wall of noise for me. Fans of the genre will probably love the chaos and aggression, but personally I struggled to find anything redeeming in it. Favourite tracks: I genuinely couldn’t pick one. Least favourite tracks: I struggled to find a redeeming feature across most of the album. Album artwork: Horrible, but to be fair it probably suits the music perfectly.

A bit too aggressive for me... 1 star

So bad I really thought this music only existed in a "make fun of metal" format. Garbage.

No Thanks

Considering I don’t know anybody that would listen to this album I would like to know who does? What is the percentage of the population that listens to this? It’s like living under a freeway overpass.

Just no...

Personally, this is the single worst genre of music.

I'd rather listen to Dire Straits 20 least-popular songs, than Slayer's 1 most-popular, but hey that's just me. EDIT: After doing some research the consensus is "Les Boys" off the 1990 album "Making Movies" is Dire Straights most disliked song, so I tested my theory. I was correct.

den to exw katholou me toso heavy metal, it's just noise actually

I just don't get thrash metal. It always has me coming away thinking "are they serious?" Is this joke music? I don't think it is. It's just lame.

Did not like this but maybe that's because I was fully at my desk lookin like this https://tenor.com/view/tired-office-cubicle-bob-parr-the-incredibles-gif-7767100

Album number 296, and by far the worst one I've listened to. Might even be the worst album I've ever listened to. I've been somewhat surprised with some of the metal that has come up to this point. It's never been a genre I've liked, but I've found that I can at least appreciate bands like Metallica, System of a Down (got their debut yesterday and gave it a surprising to me three stars), Rage Against the Machine and some others. But this is just abysmal. Lyrically, it feels like they're just trying to offend (and likely giggling about it). The songs that Spotify had the words for led to me just shaking my head that anyone finds enjoyment in this. The songs without lyrics on the app were at least an improvement in that I couldn't understand anything being shouted. There was no nuance at all here. It was just bludgeoning for the sake of doing so. And no, it won't get a star for being less than 30 minutes long.

Thankfully this album is only 29 minutes long.

1+ Stars (3/15)

"Fuck's sake" said my brain at the beginning of every song after the first couple of tracks. There is actually no need! I'm sure there are songs about the Holocaust, and Satan, and dismemberment, and your insides rotting that are sensitive and tuneful, but not here. 1001 has served me up with a portion of shit with a side order of shit and shitty sprinkles on the top. And no fucking gravy. You can have PostMortem for pudding. It's the only thing resembling a track. The bad thing about this app is the inability to give no stars. Posting the review is the only reason this gets a star. Fucking awful.

I hate trash metal. Tough listen. It all sounded the same to me. Felt like the vocalist was struggling to keep up with the rest of the bans lmao. Never listening to this again. Didn't even finish it. 1/5

yeah nah……… definitely not for me

Some of the instrumentals are good, the shouting is horrendous

Absolutely not.

The drums are fun, raining blood is nostalgic cause of guitar hero, but it’s not the genre for me.

Everything sounds the same.

Thrash isn’t as bad as death metal, but it’s still mostly garbage.

Whenever people ask me what kind of music I like, I usually respond by saying pretty much everything, except for when people are screaming at me. It was a pretty honest answer, as I never really had any interest in that type of music outside of the guitar and drums. I feel like now that I've sat down and listened to this album in its entirety I can say with my entire chest that I was right. I found almost zero enjoyment in this album apart from some instrumental solos that admittedly got my head banging or blood pump. But every... single... time... that Tom Araya opened his mouth to let sound spill out I was removed from any sense of good times that I was having. It's just a mess, a wall of words seemingly thoughtlessly put together in manner devoid of any rhythm or meter. No detriment to the album, but it's hard for me to listen to any of the lyrics without cringing a little, but I'm not too proud to say that's likely due to being unable to find any semblance of lyrics or ideas I could relate to. Which is a shame, because there are glimmers of cool in here that I could find, namely with the instrumental lead-in and out of Raining Blood. In the end, the incredibly short 28 minute ride felt like it was one hour-long song, very little to distinguish each track from one another, causing what should have been a glue-you-to-the-back-of-your-seat half hour to feel more like a painful drag. I hope there's more to this genre than this, or at least that there's something out there for me.

All force and adrenaline. Nowhere near as enjoyable for me as any of the Metallica albums that have come up, or, heck, even the Megadeth.

15/02/2026 1. angel of death - immediately what i was expecting when i got this album... was hoping this generator would maybe make me more open to metal, but it's somehow making me not like it more. admittedly, really liked the screeching sound. the riff in the instrumental just before 2 mins in really sounds like the kmfdm song in the living end.... googled it and it is kmfdm sampled it! 2. piece by piece - very edgy. 3. necrophobic - this one does not have lyrics on spotify. what the fuck is he saying. like the screeching of the guitar. not much else. 4. altar of sacrifice - went through this whole song not noticing that it had changed from the previous track so didn't write anything and am not listening to it again! 5. jesus saves - slower beginning is nice. again, cannot understand what is being said. 6. criminally insane - all of these songs sound the same to me. 7. reborn - only good thing about this album so far is that it's only half an hour long. 8. epidemic - lyrics are back so i can understand the emo shit he's saying again :( 9. postmortem - do americans pronounce tourniquet like that??? harrowing discovery. 10. raining blood - thank god this is almost over. liking the atmosphere at the start. ruined a bit by the drums and overly loud lightning effects but whatever. the only enjoyment i got from this album was being reminding of better songs from the riff in angel of death. don't like metal, not for me. really love the album cover though, reallllllly beautiful, will have to look up who painted it :)

Play fast and loud and yell quickly about death..... this album is a pizza cutter; all edge, no point. (also........after listening to the first song I had a question about lyrics, so I did a quick dive into the band and found out that quite a few people think they might be Nazis..........and tbh, I agree that they might be.)

Just awful.

I really don't like trash metal, it's aggressive music, hateful, and angry. The music has no melody, and it has the same tempo and rhythm. There is nothing I like here. The only thing is that it is only 28 minutes long.
