interesting n cool at times but at others rather nondescript

I would listen to this again if I found myself in the right mood. I think it's pretty unique and I enjoy the darker, electronic atmosphere. Strong 7/10

went in blind and enjoyed a good chunk of this. kind of a mixture of a Bjork, Metric and maybe Beach House. the soundscapes created are pretty cool; in particular i liked “Seven” and “Triangle Walks.” vocals are fine but sometimes out of place

I've heard their name but never listened to their music. I like the cover. Moody, tone setting intro track to whet the whistle. Truly impressive listener counts from start to finish with every song over 3M but averaging around 6-7M per song. The fan faves are the intro "If I Had A Heart" (115M), "When I Grow Up" (20M) and "Keep The Streets Empty For Me" (45M). All the songs are good, I liked every one of them. None of them have a real hook or radio-ready presence though. "Seven" is a nice song and I really enjoyed it, same with "Now's The Only Time I Know". How did these guys escape my ear for 15 yrs? Never suggested by a friend, never teed up as a recommendation on Spotify, never opened for someone I saw live, odd. Unique use of a male and female vocalist. His voice takes some getting used to, hers as well, honestly, but it's that uniqueness that makes their blend shine. Interesting percussion to increase the curiosity and enhance the songs. Slick production, I would have liked to watch as they laid down the vocals and built the sound around them, again very unique. Not sure if I'd say this is a must-hear album before I die, but I welcome the intro. It's unique, it's a soundscape of coolness and I found a new artist to dive into. 3.5 stars, I was intrigued from start to finish, and that hasn't been the case with 80% of the albums on this T1001 list. Bonus points for production, uniqueness, interesting elements, percussion, etc. PS - Try the DJ Tennis remix of "What Else Is There?" by Royksopp, it's way more upbeat than anything on this album and make her vocal shine.

Interesting music. Would listen to this again but wouldn't have picked this for 1001.

Atmospheric and spacey. Not quite my jam, but not terrible

odd, 3/5

2000s electronica. Swedish musician. Very cool instrumentation. Very unique. But also a bit morre samey and banal than expected.

elektronisches aus dem norden 🇸🇪

6/10… indietronica / art pop / *2009

An excellent flowing album. No song in particular stood out, but the way that each song built and flowed was masterful.

A little Bjork-ish Scandinavian electro-pop in some interesting variations.

Fever Ray guides the listener through a series of spacey and hypnotic dark techno tracks. I really love the bouncy synths that line a lot of this album—it makes every song feel very funky and fresh. I’m not sure I really care for the vocals, but they’re mixed pretty low so I’m happy to focus on the instrumentals. I appreciate the swelling synths on Concrete Walls, and I think it’s a pretty awesome and immersive track. Other highlights include If I Had a Heart, Triangle Walks, I’m Not Done (which is basically a huge buildup; awesome stuff). This kind of dark techno music isn’t typically what I listen to, but this is a good one to put on if I’m ever in the mood!

Not bad, kind of haunting at times. 3.5/5

It took me a while to get used to Fever Ray's self-titled debut album. Now that I've done so, I find it quite listenable. I'm still not a fan of electronica, but with Fever Ray's slow and hypnotic, even somewhat psychedelic approach, it finally makes sense. I had heard “If I Had A Heart” before and I also liked “Keep The Streets Empty For Me.” For me, Fever Ray is a more accessible version of Björk.

interesting

Never heard of this artist before. This should be right up my street and the first track piqued my interest with a Vikings-like track. However, I found the rest of the album wanting. I was expecting, reading some reviews some interesting soundscapes that would be best listened to through headphones. I didn’t get any of that. It didn’t have the levels of someone like Caribou or Boards of Canada. Would I listen again? No.

Pretty much just Bjork.

The vocals and vibe remind me of Bjork. It's interesting to learn that she (they?) did pitch translation to change her voice, which adds to this androgenous persona. Interesting to learn that it's one half of The Knife - this album is less poppy, more ethereal.

Hard one to score this. I enjoyed it without it fully clicking with me. I think with a couple more listens it could go up to a 4. Top Track - Triangle Walks

A strange combination of Depeche Mode, Bowie (Outside) and Bjork. Interesting but confusing.

3.4 stars rounded down. Spooky, doomer electronica.

A good headphones listen, interesting electronic music. The vocals keep this from being higher rated for me. While they were okay on some songs, for the most part the vocals were kind of grating.

This would be much better without the vocals

quiet dark, slow and moody but quite enjoyable as something different

Kinda the same the whole time but definitely vibey

This was cool but it’s inclusion reminds me of the lists on Letterboxd, where about 90% of the lists have about 90% of the same films and the remaining ten percent is obscure stuff to pretend that their not just copy pasting. This feels like one of the 10% in the music list. (Yes, one of my listed favorite films is a self aware Iranian taxi simulator that gradually deconstructs itself, why do you ask?)

Sape

Well, I didn’t expect to enjoy this……but I did, I even put 2 trax on a playlist- never heard of the duo before, good stuff.

(65/100)

Very much of it’s time, but in a good way. Super DAW-y in a way that got dismissed a few years later.

Nice relaxing songs

Veien Kulturminnepark-stemning

I was not previously familiar with the artist or album. This album is pretty interesting. It's listed as electronic pop, and I feel this is a good description. It is very lush in sound, with lots of rhythm and atmospheric synthesizers. The tracks themselves change in tone but keep the overall sound in line. While I am not jumping up and down over this, I liked it enough that I would listen again.

This was quite good for what it is — dance music with ecstatic dance vibes. Not really sitting around appreciating music kinda music. But the vocalists were really good — Enya meets Sinead and the instrumentation was interesting. Probably deserves another listen. A 3, for now.

I just reviewed Daft Punk’s Homework yesterday, and today I get another helping of European electronic music, in the form of Fever Ray’s self-titled debut. I’ve never heard of Fever Ray before, but one of the reviews for this album calls it “Donkey Kong Country Core,” and if that’s the case, please inject this album straight into my veins. Fever Ray is my last album of 2009 to review, so I’m hoping it will leave a lasting impression on me. I don’t think the Donkey Kong Country Core description of this album is entirely accurate, but I still thought this album was pretty good. I think the biggest asset that this Fever Ray album has in its corner is the atmosphere that it created. The way that these songs were created is pretty unique, and I liked that each song was dark and icy, but not in a way that felt haunting or isolating, which I thought was a pretty delicate balance to strike so well. However, while this album was nice to listen to, I didn’t find it particularly catchy or engaging; most of this album resigned itself to being listened to passively. The vocals, although reminiscent enough of Björk to the point where it felt like an intentional imitation, meshed really well with the overall sound of this album. Even though most of this album wasn’t very memorable to me, “Seven” and “Triangle Walks” really stood out to me. Both of these songs had beautiful melodies, and both of them had a plethora of elements that were really well arranged to craft their sounds. Fever Ray was an interesting album, but I’d rather fire up some Björk or Miike Snow if I’m in the mood for some Scandinavian pop music.

Decent

It was okay. Mostly glad to have a little reprieve from rock tbh

6/10 Best songs: Now's the Only Time I Know, I'm Not Done You know, considering how into indie music I was in the late 2000s, I'm kind of shocked that Fever Ray never came onto my radar - especially considering that singer Karin Dreijer was once part of The Knife (!). That being said, I'm not really sure I understand why this album is on this list. Don't get me wrong: it's not bad by any means, and I enjoy it, but like... What is it doing that The Knife didn't already do? Or Bjork (who very clearly influenced Dreijer's style of singing, which I only realized just now and I'm shocked I didn't notice years ago)? My big criticism of the album is that it's a little too down-tempo for my liking, with a sparse, almost cold musical landscape. Few of the songs ever push the envelope or move out of that same zone, which makes it a bit one-note. That being said, the songs that do are pretty great. I feel like this is a case of an album that critics hyped tf up because of the insane popularity of The Knife and not for its own merits.

Interesting set of tracks here. Its not up my alley at all but it kept me generally engaged the whole time. I would listen to anything here again but it has artistry. It has the stuff. To another person this could be the pinnacle and I wouldn't bat an eye at that. Just not for me.

The first track was kind of interesting but it shifted gears after that. The sixth track was more like the first, but by that time I had kinda lost interest and didn't really pay attention to the rest of it.

space mais sympa à réécouter

Once I got through the first track, this was okay background music at work

This was a little Dry and Dusty for me.

Interesting. Feels like diet Bjorn. Not bad, but not something I would regularly listen to.

Never heard of this one but quite enjoyed. It felt a bit like a smoothed out Bjork

Solid. Not my usual stuff, but this was good

A fine example of the sort of thing it is.

*2009. Electronica artist from Sweden. *I liked this more than I thought I would. There were some cool songs, and a good chunk of it sounded Bjork-ish. RATINGS - 6/10

Don't normally go for this style of music but it turned out to be pretty nice in the background while I was working.

if i had a heart reminds me of aurora and i’m not done is probably the best and fav song from the album. wouldn’t say it’s for me but pretty cohesive and impressive album nonetheless

sympa de ouf

Really 3.5 stars. Music is 4 but they're voice is a bit much at times

enjoyable

Not a band I had any awareness of and enjoyed this album. A very chilled but engaging listen.

Electro punk, crazy

If I Had a Heart - 4/5 When I Grow Up - 4/5 Dry and Dusty - 3/5 Seven - 4/5 Triangle Walks - 4/5 Concrete Walls - 2/5 Now's the Only Time I Know - 3/5 I'm Not Done - 4/5 Keep the Streets Empty for Me - 3/5 Coconut - 3/5 Average score: 3.1/5

I enjoy this album quite a bit, prob more like a 3.5

i think its pretty good but like at the end of the day not exactly for me

I will listen again.

Nice to have finally heard the originals after knowing some of these songs from Nirvana Unplugged, but nothing grabbed me especially.

Some cool moody tracks here. Some danceable, others good soundtrack fodder.

Moody, kinda spooky and weird. “When I Grow Up” is definitely on some of my playlists from the last 15 years.

The production on this was quite relaxing. To me this is much more accessible Bjork. I still didn't love the vocals and about halfway through the album I started getting a little bored because the electronic aspect was a bit slow but overall I enjoyed it.

3.0 To be reviewed - one of the 'redacted' (future editions) albums

Interesting, a bit like bjork.

I'm slightly familiar with The Knife, so at some level I knew what to expect. This is mostly as expected. It's pretty good, but I'm not sure I feel compelled to listen to this again.

It’s not good or bad. It just is

pleasant

The Good: We have a ray, of light I am hoping… The Bad: Noticing that the ray is a little hot… The Ugly: Being shot by a fever ray? Of course we have another album by someone we don’t know, who is creative enough to name the album after themselves… My thoughts on the actual music? Well, I was kind of expecting some kind of sonic Viking to jump out of my speakers so that they could rape and pillage their way through my home… Supposedly the music is electronic, just as much as Enigma is electronic… though there are vocals, and some kind of instrumentation… for me, electronic is Fraftwork… but that’s just me. Anyway, I listened to the album, it was nice on the background, and I could probably listen to it again, however, the damn “shouting” would just start annoying me, not to mention my Viking paranoia! So, summation, yeah…. no… 3*

One of the best electronic albums I heard on the list so far. Didn’t love it but very chill and different

Listen to the music without watching the videos and it's tolerable. The video imagery is disturbing.

5.5/10

Boring!

I liked it. It's got a vibe that makes it easy to listen to, but not to pay attention to. It's a good background sound, but giving it a real listen is tough.

This album is about as icy and removed as it gets, and best listened to on headphones so you can be immersed in it. Even then it feels distant and frequently unsettling, which seems to be the intent. I'm not surprised "If I Had a Heart" and "Keep the Streets Empty for Me" have the most listens, because they are the grabbiest (relatively speaking). Otherwise this album seems deliberately constructed NOT to grab you, but to ease you into a cold embrace. There's certainly a place for that, but it's not necessarily something I'd revisit.

I like fever Ray, they make good music, but I always feel like there is something missing that doesn't pull me in so much

The Knife!

Not really something I love but I can appreciate the craft.

It was good

The self-titled Fever Ray album completely passed me by when it was first released, so I was really looking forward to discovering it today. This record feels very Björk-like — cold, dark, and deeply captivating. It draws you in and demands your attention from start to finish. Each listen reveals new layers and textures, making it an album that rewards repeated plays. It’s not usually the kind of music I’d gravitate toward, but I really enjoyed it. Favourite track: Keep the Streets Empty for Me – a dark, mysterious, and beautifully haunting song. Least favourite track: Everything here is worth a listen. Album artwork: A striking and atmospheric cover that perfectly matches the music’s mood.

This is exciting: I really like what I've heard from The Knife, but I never looked into them further, so learning there's a whole associated solo act is cool. Unfortunately there's too many mouth noises happening in this first song and the rest are kinda dazey. So is the solo act better than the duo act? In this reviewer's opinion... no. Highlights: 'Dry & Dusty', 'Keep the Streets Empty for Me'

This is the first album since they added the rating distributions that has a near-perfect bell curve. It's pretty middle-of-the-road, decent, understated electronic music. Björk Lite at points, not as abrasive but rather chilled out. I enjoyed it but doubt I'll go back to it.

Some cool stuff. Others sound like hold music

If you get used to the voice, the album itself is not bad.

Cool sounds

It's a vibe at times, but ultimately not my thing. Keep the Streets Empty for Me is haunting and wish more of it sounded like that.

I confused this artist at first with Sugar Ray and was like "really? This is on here?" but I was clearly way off. Moody, kinda dark and quirky late 2000s hipster sounding electronica stuff. I like it, all the songs kinda sounds the same but it's still a cool atmosphere.

Correcto

For whatever reason, I mostly enjoyed this one. While I wouldn't consider it better than good, I found it to be a pleasant experience. It was atmospheric and had some cool vibes. My biggest negative was that it blended together a bit. It did run kinda long, and I found myself zoning out at times. Not sure if I will listen to it again, but I thought it was a fine listen at least this once. Overall: 2.9/5

Quite interesting, reminds me of Bjork a lot in some places, mostly just the vocal style and some of the production choices, which feel very sophisticated, in a good way. Its very atmospheric, which I quite like. sort of in the same way as TV on the Radio, there's no clear style tying everything together, which allows a lot of experimentation and surprises, which is always great. Also they're not really afraid to just have long instrumental sections. Not really too much else to say, just a good album. I feel like maybe some parts of it are a bit too sparse, which is maybe the idea, but I think most of them could have more instruments. Favourite songs: pretty much all. Overall around 6/10

***An ok album

Lots of sort of chanty, small note range choruses, good guitar in the background. Not a bad voice but not a traditionally good one either. Would perhaps also be suited to rock screaming. Sort of wish there was a 3.5 star

also too much out there electronica

I actually really like the first track. It's really dark and brooding, but still really interesting. But the next tracks lose those interesting qualities. Honestly this is a whiplash album. It alternates so much between bad/meh songs, and really good, interesting songs. It's like they're throwing spaghetti at a wall, not knowing what makes the spaghetti stick. I don't normally like electronic-heavy albums. But the good songs on this album are really good. I don't know that I'd go so far as to call them great, but they really hold up what would otherwise be a pretty rough album. Favorite Song(s): If I Had a Heart, Now's the Only Time I Know

Scandi noir vibes, liked the darkness. Got a little bit tiresome especially with the crying babies at the end. When you’ve got one at home you don’t want one in the AirPods

I’d NEVER heard of Fever Ray until getting their album here. Totally enjoyed it. Original and unique for the most part, and held my interest. Curious to know more about them, but this is what makes doing this challenge fun - being exposed to things you haven’t yet been exposed to.

This one was a little too out there for my liking. There was some interesting sounds throughout, but it just didn't "click" with me.

weird genere of music but i don't dislike it

Something... unusual? Actually quite interesting

3/5 Honestly... the listening experience is good if you're into atmospheric artistic stuff. Most songs on their own are kinda meh, but "Keep The Streets Empty For Me" lives rent-free in my favourites playlist since forever.

It's ok.

Not bad. Found it interesting.

Really did cause a fever in me, 5/5. IDK, it's an interesting project, and something I probably should relisten, but it also draaags onn with the same light ideas. Should've been more focused and heavier.

More interesting than enjoyable

Pretty cool but not sure I’ll be returning to it. The whole thing felt pretty samey.

Ok to put on for about 2 tracks then it's worn out its welcome

Favorite Track: Concrete Walls

Triangle Walks was pretty good. The rest was ok if a bit boring musically. The singing was a bit annoying, though. This probably would be worth listening to again as an instrumental.

Is being unreasonably eccentric like a requirement to make music in Scandinavia or?

Kind of Bjork-y but not that exciting about it?

Har varit sparsamt med svenska bidrag. Såg dock inte den här komma. Det är ett ganska schysst album.

Scandinavian Electronica with vocals. The music is a 4, the lyrics and singing is a 2.

Definitely interesting. Didn’t quite cross the chasm of translating creativity to engaging me as a listener. I had the sense I might be missing the context of Fever Ray, which is often a big part of how much I enjoy an artist.

If someone put this on while I’m chilling at the beach and a bit stoned I’d think it was cool. But listening to it in different circumstances I know this isn’t an amazing album. It’s solid

Good rhythm

Kinda enjoyed it.

Solid art pop, kind of electronic album. Very Bjõrk-esque and I do enjoy about half of the songs

I enjoyed listening to this album. I liked the dual lead singers. I liked the atmosphere it created, it was very easy to just let it wash over you. That said, I doubt I would ever listen to it again.

3.75 Interesting stuff. Opening track belongs on Dark OST

Some interesting work here.

Solid. Nothing special

Pretty vibey electronica, sounds pretty good at higher volumes. Definitely can set a mood, and a lot going on in my ears as I listen to it.

I got fever baby

Just another ex-1001 album!™ http://1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie.wikidot.com/album-artists-a-z-ex Thought it made good ambient background music. I like Martin Ander's artwork, has a Charles Burns/Blackhole vibe to it.

I saw Fever Ray in 2010 when she was touring with this album - it was quite the show. She is certainly different but also somewhat hypnotic. I like this album quite a bit but still I’m not sure I would seek it out again - so 3 stars

# Album Name: Fever Ray # Artist: Fever Ray # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: Interesting album. A bit drab overall for a first listen but theres some decent sounds here. I'll need to come back to this one. It could be a grower. Theres a few strand out tracks like if i had a heart, streets empty and when i grow up. This will either be a hit or miss for me. For now its going in the "alright" bucket. # Top Tunes: If i had a heart / Keep the streets empty / when i grow up # Would I listen to it again? I'll come back for a listen.

This was like more accessible Björk. Still didn’t do much for me but fine in the background.

Expected more bad electronic club music. This actually was more like prog rock. Reminded me a lot of Peter Gabriel. No need to hear again but not terrible.

More interesting than our usual electronic albums. The vocals sounded like Bjork to me.

Solid electronic pop. I liked the slowed down rhythm and ambience. Favorites: When I Grow Up

Nogmaals geen tijd gehad om te luisteren

Boring.

spectacular expanse of sound. think some of the vocals might take some getting used to but i’ve added it to my library. mostly quite liked it! sick cover art also.

vocals sometimes reminded me of björk and the first track reminded me of ethel cain (or like the kind of dark aesthetic) this feels so fresh while being almost 20 years old

Das war schon ziemlich seltsam. So als wollten sie Geister beschwören... Hatte eher Hip Hop erwartet.

This was not horrible, not great either. I recognized a few tracks and it was mostly a chill listen. Probably not enough to seek it out again intentionally though.

The comparison to artists like Kate Bush are somewhat merited, and the minimalism should be mentioned too…but overall this one leaves a lot to be desired. Pretty good in some spots. Pretty bad in others. Pretty unforgettable. Pretty average. Pretty sure it doesn’t need to be included in this list.

Hmm, not sure what to make of this one. Liked some moments but overall pretty forgettable.

I remember looking up Fever Ray when watching Vikings and thinking that opening song was quite cool. Never thought I’d need a full album of it though. Like the uniqueness and the fact that it’s different but still very listenable. Going 3 mostly bc of the Vikings song. I am a lil curious why ever song is explicit because I don’t recall hearing a ton of bad words.

3/5. Production is peak on this one, minimalist and similar to dungeon synth with Bjork-style lyrics on top. It's a great combination but I don't know if the actual songs are doing it for me. I respect the album as a whole but I don't think I'm listening to this often when I want to put something on. Like, it's a good concept, but I don't think was executed as well as it could have been. Best Song: If I Had A Heart, Coconut, When I Grow Up

I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected I would. It’s electronica, but skews more toward weird and ambient than dance-y beats, which I appreciate. It’s still probably not something I’m going to really seek out in the future, though.

This is basically a Super Nintendo Entertainment System soundtrack with some vocals thrown in there. Not bad, but it drags on too long for what it is. Favorite Track: "If I Had A Heart".

Dark and ominous. Not my favourite thing, but quite good. 3.5 stars

cool but not my vibe 2.5/5

When I was a kid I had rubbish word search game on my PC: David Bellamy’s Discovering Endangered Wildlife. The music on this album reminds me of the music from that game if Bjork was wailing over the top of it. That’s a good thing.

Okay-interesting, but mostly unmoving, for being excessively plinky and synthetic and sort of floating in an unresolved middle space between dancey club music and synth-pop sweetness and industrial electronica. The vocals are certainly distinct but not necessarily in a good way, (vaguely Bozzionian [Missing Persone] or Sineadesque [at her most strident]). Indeed, there's an eerie sort of sleeplessness (if not quite bad dream) effect, furthered by a few of the lyrics ("needing to rest" and "not sleeping since summer"). A little self-care might be in order, one suspects.

I don’t like electronic music, but this was pretty dope. I may revisit it in the future. 1001 album worthy: yes - 93/170

I love Silent Shout by the Knife (probably a 5/5) so I'm surprised this solo debut from one member of the Knife was on the list and not that one. This feels like a B-side compilation of Silent Shout.

Dark and moody, interesting, but not really my jam.

I don’t know. I tried to listen to this whole album with an open mind, but it was just so much. The music was fine, but the vocals definitely pushed it into Björk territory. Not in a good way.

Definitely unique. Still undecided whether it's good or not. Definitely belongs on this list.

I like it First listen nothing jumped out, still good but not world changing, probably confused as to why something like this would make the list. But good

Difficult to separate from Vikings and the emotional ties to that programme, but altogether really listenable.

Weird before all else Yet wildly captivating And shocking techno

Some really vibey moments as well as some that feels a bit empty. Overall enjoyable

Zu den markantesten Titeln zählen „If I Had a Heart“, das später auch in mehreren TV-Produktionen verwendet wurde, sowie „When I Grow Up“ und „Keep the Streets Empty for Me“. Die Stücke zeichnen sich durch reduzierte Arrangements, langsame Tempi und verfremdete Gesangsspuren aus, was der Musik eine distanzierte und introspektive Wirkung verleiht. Insgesamt handelt es sich um ein sorgfältig produziertes Werk mit eigenständiger Klangsprache, das sich deutlich von konventionellem Elektropop abgrenzt und atmosphärisch zusammenhängend wirkt.

Very cool album--I like the songwriting. Like Bjork, it can get a bit monotonous (although it's not really anything like Bjork). Now's The Only Time I Know is a highlight. Would probably get to 3.5 with time.

Slow electric music that's a bit grunge and dark

it's like an electro swedish GWAR that makes good music without sacrificing any of the unsettling characters or visuals

Pleasant vibe, but not really much keeping me anchored through the whole album.

I thought the first four tracks and the final one were extremely promising, but it did slacken off in the second half. However, I would listen again in the future.

I didn't dislike this, it was all very easy to listen to and wasn't offense. But it felt like it could have been a compilation of songs out of late 80's movies. Pan's Labryinth, Blade Runner, Howard the Duck, Die Hard, Aliens, Mad Max...it felt so much in that era. I didn't dislike it but it wasn't anything new or different.

If you have a dark soul, or you’re just in a melancholic mood, this album is for you! Fever Ray, also one half of The Knife, is an artist who is willing to push the limits of what music can be. They are mostly successful. I find this album with its goth leanings goes down really well in autumn months.

interesting music that i found to be a little reminiscent of bjork. i don't think it ends up being as compelling, but there are some interesting sonic passages here. mostly i found it to be somewhere in the middle, not weird enough to be interesting, but not dull enough to be unlistenable.

It’s fine! I don’t really get why it’s on this list but to each their own!

bleepy-pop, fine but not outstanding

It tried something

Not bad. Nice chill electronic music.

Yeah this was interesting. I will be returning to it, and added it my library. I don't love it though, but no skips, interesting vibe that I think you got to be in the mood for.

Nice, if a little low-key for my interests. Chill background noise, but nothing stands out.

Very weird putting an artist on you've never heard of and the first track is a song you have heard in part a ton from watching a television series. Definitely a genre I am not interested in getting in to, but I get why people like it. Wasn't bad by any means.

Not bad, but mediocre. Listen to Bjork instead. She came up with the idea and does it way better of course.

Was a bit disappointed as I really liked the more poppy/ retro vibes of The Knife and thought that this would be more of the same. Did not really enjoy the darker tone - made it slightly dirgy and lacking in hooks or moments of beauty. Not terrible by any means - just not what I was hoping for. Will give a 3 as I'm sure would grow with repeated listening ....

Whilst there are some top not h influences evident throughout, it ends up being an aeon behind the multi-layered textures of Boards of Canada; light years behind the desolate wonder of Björk; and a country mile behind the alternative melodic brilliance of Kate Bush. The album tempo rarely shifts into anything above a crawl. Because most of the album is so singular in tempo, it becomes something of a dirge. And I started to find repeating instances of the lower register pitch-shifted vocal highly irritating. For the other side there is a genuine creativity to many of the tracks, attempting ambience, good melodies, and a good vocal. Which is all a long way to say it's a three.

Mix a little swedish electronica with some proto-Bjork vocals, and some Yellow Magic Orchestra orchestration and ....this is the result. It's will not appeal to everyone (what can) and many will be irritated by it, but it's OK. A pleasant change from the usua; Alternative/AOR stuff, but I'm probably not give it a second listen.

Cool and weird but not to my taste

sallright

Viking song was cool!

This feels like a throwback to a lot of 80s synth pop or goth stuff in a good way. It also sounds like they had fun making all kinds of sounds.

Really liked the opener and the ending. I like when it goes for a very dark yet weirdly comfortable feel. But the pitch shifted vocals annoy me and take some points off whats a good electronic album

This was interesting, and made more so by a cursory review of their bio (pitch-shifted vocals, for one thing). As with many of the electronic-oriented albums, it tended to sound similar from track to track — a similar mood/sound/melodic construct seemed to pervade everything. So I enjoyed it, but was never truly captivated beyond periodic passages.

yeah, this was all right. i was familiar with The Knife, but I think I liked this better. It's a bit bleak, but I dug it. Not sure it belongs on this list, but it was nice to be exposed to it.

Interesting. I didn't know I had any deleted ones left. I like that The Knife album. Saw these on telly when they played Glastonbury. I like the vibe. I wish some of the songs would go somewhere, but it's overall decent. Do we call this chill-wave? There's not a lot of verse chorus verse going on here, which works well sometimes but not all the time. Finding the Bjork comparisons a bit weird, I'm assuming those people haven't really listened to Bjork though, or have just seen the word Scandinavian and leapt to a lazy comparator. More in common with Depeche Mode and countless other synth bands. Decent but probably a little bit one-paced to grab me, which is what I thought after the glasto gig. Probably a bunch of songs that work well in isolation but all together you lose interest. I'm Not Done, however, is hypnotic and stands out from the crowd. Playlisted.

Very cool! It's like wofting through a dark dream, slow and deep. Had heard several of these tracks before, but don't think I'd be able to attribute to Fever Ray.

Very solid album that I may very well listen to again but also not the most amazing piece of electronica nor an all-time classic.

Good album. It comes from a genre that I didn't grow up with, and doesn't have a deep emotional resonance with me, but there is a lot of unpredictability in this album, and that fascinates me. There is a lot that one can learn about music theory and breaking out of the creative box by listening to this album

that first track was a single? swedes are chill af

I had never heard either the artist or tge album before this Introduction and a long commute afforded me the opportunity to do so twice. Its a rare and sparse gem of a record, with a fragile charm and beauty of its own. Do I like it? No, not in any defined way. Do I want to listen to it again? , yes, I probably will. I kinda respect it more than enjoy it at the moment, and in a way I'm not sure how to describe it but definitely can see why it's made this list.. I get the echoes.of it in recent explorations into alaskan tapes, onehtrix point never and andrew tuttle.to name but a few

Not heard of this before. Found thar most tracks seemed to pass me by and really capture my attention. Found myself more interested in later tracks and quite liked, 'stranger than kindness' and 'here before'. I guess 3 stars would be a fair estimation.

I liked this a lot more than expected. I don’t like electronic or Swedish (sorry, Bjork). This was a good background vibe. Not obtrusive.

3.5/5. I knew the opening track and got excited. Turns out that's an outlier in this album. I don't think the music on here is bad, it's just not something I enjoy listening to most times.

I'm typically into ambient electronic pop, and this isn't bad. I had zero experience with this artist prior to these spins. It's a collection of neat, airy tunes. The sounds roll. It’s unpretentious, with a small wink of humor. A laid-back listen that doesn’t overdo it. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions: - If I Had a Heart - When I Grow Up - Keep The Streets Empty For Me

If I Had a Heart // I’m Not Done 3.5/5

Spooky and cool

Pretty cool

Kind of dig it

Much to its credit, this wasn't mind-numbingly torturous to listen to like almost every other electronica album I've heard here. Maybe it's the atmospheric, moody vibe but this actually kind of worked for me. It is quite a bit same-y. I thought I had only listened to 2 long songs but when I checked on the progress of the player, I had actually listened to 5 songs. This one surprised me, I didn't think I'd like it at all. 2.75/5

It was trippy, but it didn’t hit too hard ever. Forgettable overall

Meet "Spooky Bjork". This is a very solid art pop album, with a uniquely psychedelic aesthetic and wonderful production on both the instrumentals and vocals. It's a capital-H Headphones experience! I lean far towards electronic music as opposed to pop which does bias me towards the IDM style songs like the incredible 'Dry and dusty' towards the start of the album. I LOVE how some tracks use their lack of drumbeat to create this immensely spacey feeling, like you're floating on your back down a river at night. So the later songs with more traditional pop song structures let me down even if the production is still good.

Ok for background music while working

I'm still reeling from the display picture on Deezer. Yeah, its like Bjork, but its also got some bits that aren't and I think those actually worked better (depsite being a fan of Bjork). I might like some of it more after a revisit.

Decent album, too hipstery 3/5

Dense, melancholic but dancy at the same time, electropop

It has its moments

This album is a solid listen. I put this on while grinding through some work meetings and it was exactly what I needed to push me through and keep my attention going. I really dig the vocals, and the production shines too. The overall dark vibe makes the album feel super cohesive, and mysterious. Just overall a cool album that I'm happy to discover via this list. This isn't a dig whatsoever on the artist and album artist, but I hate that when I look at this album cover initially I think "eww gross it's AI artwork" and then I look and see that the album came out in 2009 so I can assume it's not. Good job Martin Ander on the artwork.

Something about the voice annoys me but some of the instrumentals are just so perfectly peaceful for a Friday morning.

Not a fave. Definitely interesting. More, music for a film I would deeply enjoy.

When they couldn't clear Teardrop as the theme song for House on streaming services, they wrote this record as a replacement.

76% Best: When I Grow Up; Seven; Triangle Walks; I'm Not Done Must-Hear? No, but it is an enjoyable, relaxing experience.

Meh. It wasn't bad. Kind of dragged on a bit. And just not really that into it.

Like it.

first listen it's definitely artistic but didn't hold my attention a whole lot

Didn’t hate this. Most songs went on too long though

Very atmospheric and great lyrics. Love the production and enjoyed the album. Unsure if I will revisit time and time again but who knows. Surprise me

++: When I Grow Up, Coconut +: If I Had a Heart, Seven, Triangle Walks, Concrete Walls, I'm Not Done, Keep the Streets Empty for Me +-: Dry and Dusty, Now's the Only Time I Know 6,7/10

This album grew on me. started as a 2 ended as a 3.5 not quite a 4 though. I figured the dude chose this album simply for the Vikings reference but nah it was solid

This should have been my kryptonite but actually is a tuneful, interesting side of electronica that was a good listen.

Why was this so fire

It is really good and I love the Fever Ray project, but her follow up albums are more fully realized than the debut.

Good production

Spooky, in a good way.

Enjoyed this sound, it's the kind of relaxing/indie shit that I can work to. 3*

Fever Ray is an interesting listen, but so dense and semi-difficult that it is never something I actively seek out. 3/5

Each song started sounding the same and not as good as the previous song.

Heard on breaking bad!

Chill. A little flat. Don't know what I was expecting, but I'm unlikely to listen to this again.

made me slightly uncomfortable but a good kind. Kinda björkish

Good album, but did not find any song to highlight.

I've never heard anything like Fever Ray's self-titled. This album is full of electronic sounds designed to be other worldly yet still chill. The vocals are unusual but add to the float-y feeling. I call this album weird, but I mean it affectionately because of how unique Fever Ray sounds--and the fact my ears didn't bleed like with the weirdest Swedish musician of all time, who I shall decline to name. But we all know who I'm referring to.

Not always, but often, it is easy to pick out Scandinavian music. Much of it tends to have a very primal, very primitive sound nestled somewhere in the music -- almost like a return to Viking type roots. This album is no exception to that. However, this album definitely listens like a dichotomy. Some songs on the album are ethereally lighter (like "Triangle Walks") and others are ethereally heavier (like "If I Had a Heart"). I had heard "If I Had a Heart" before and liked it a lot, and definitely found myself preferring the darker tracks that were more in that vein. Another dichotomy that this music kind of presents is this sound of organic vs. inorganic. Much of the album is driven by electronic sounds coupled with some very natural sounding percussion and instrumentation. I have also seen the comparisons drawn between Fever Ray and Björk. My thoughts here are that while they are both obviously Scandinavian and have interesting (if not bizarre) ways of singing, I find Fever Ray's vocals a lot less grating and discordant than Björk's. For someone that wants to like Björk but can't find it in them to endure her, I feel like Fever Ray is much more accessible.

Nice music, lame lyrics.

It's been a while since you've thrown an album at me that I could get excited about -- and this is still not it! Kind of forgettable for me... I might give it another shot sometime in the future to see if it grows on me, but for now, kind of meh.

Atmospheric electronic music with (probably Marmite) vocals. I quite like the sound of it, but it's nothing groundbreaking... if this was made in the 1970s, yes, but not in 2009. The album sounds pleasant enough, almost like one long song, but I'm not sure if it is "must hear before you die".

Pretty weird, but I liked it.

Picture a less-talented Massive Attack featuring a less-adventerous Bjork. Side A is great, drags a bit on side B

#349. The music itself is peasant enough, if a little weird, but please tell me why does she look like Dr. Satan from House of 1000 Corpses? 3/5: wat

I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is not yo listen to this again. There is promise to this though

Eh, not what I thought it was going to be but not bad either,

Not terrible, but also nothing that I would say is anything that you have to hear before you die. Sometimes this list feels like a practical joke. 3/5

I’d really enjoy a story-driven single player rpg with this as a soundtrack, but only because I really like story-driven single player rpgs. I wouldn’t listen to it again otherwise.

Was buzzing to hear the Vikings theme song. Rest of the album was fine but nothing exciting.

Well, at least it's something different. My streak of albums from artists I recognize is now over, as I have never heard of this before. Fortunately, that is not a sign of the album's quality. I had no expectations going into this. How do I feel after listening to it? It's alright. It's solid. I didn't love it, but I'd say this is a good album all things considered. It's not the most original album ever. I can definitely see where the Björk comparisons are coming from. However, I do think they're a bit overblown. This is still a different type of listen. It's not as good of a listen as Björk's better albums, but it's still different. The sound is somewhat interesting, as are the vocals. The writing's fine. It's not the most memorable, but what are you gonna do about it? I like this album, but it's not really my thing in some regards. I can see why they felt like including this on the list, but I can also completely understand why it was removed in later versions of the book. High 3/5.

Reminds me of a Swedish Sia mixed with Billie Eilish. In a way this album was slightly ahead of its time, but still not very much for me. Notable Tracks: - If I Had a Heart - When I Grow Up - Dry and Dusty - Super Mario Galaxy sand world vibes - I'm Not Done 5/10

OK I guess.

Nothing notable.

It's not my taste, but it's made well and different enough to be on the list. They probably wanted to sound like this. Very minimalistic. Favorite song: Seven (which is actually the 4th song)

The first song on the album (If I Had a Heart) is the theme song from the TV show Vikings. The whole album is like that. Super airy electronic music. Odd, but interesting. I don't hate it. Dude was a member of the Swedish electronic group The Knife before creating this band. I was expecting another garbage electronica album, but this is good. The whole thing has a Norse feel to it too. Which is why it is so fitting as a theme song for a show about vikings I suppose. Favourite songs: If I Had a Heart, Keep the Streets Empty for Me, When I Grow Up, Triangle Walks Least favourite songs: Concrete Walls, Coconut 3/5

That was…….interesting?

Good artpop album with a mellow mood. It was an enjoyable listen most of the time.

3.5 stars. pretty cool.

Kinda weird. I was into it.

The Knife is rad. It is a bit unsettling though

Interesting album! Wouldn't revisit but it was decent.

Some interesting stuff, but the interesting pretty much just balances the weird

Super weird and spacey. I enjoyed this one quite a bit.

Don’t like as much as the knife but pretty good. Confusing while driving because some of the beeps sound like my turn signal

This one caught me by surprise a bit, as a thing that doesn’t seem like it would be in my wheelhouse but kind of is. I’ve never cared much for The Knife, maybe I was just assuming based on that. Anyway I could easily see this growing on me. Dreijer is real weird in a cool way.

5 / 10 Música electrónica, tipo New Age. Sin demasiado interés.

It’s actually pretty good - another example of why I really wish this project had half stars. Because I liked this more than I liked Aerosmith, which I gave 3 stars, but I don’t think it’s enough to give 4 stars. Overall, solid electronic dream pop-y music. I actually like it quite a bit, musically, but the singers voice isn’t very good, so that knocks it down a peg for me.

A lot of nice soundscapes in there. I really liked the dark ambient tones in the first song. The rest of the album was more upbeat but still nice.

I didn't love this but it wasn't bad either. It kind of reminds me of a darker yet more palatable Bjork.

Some of this I really enjoyed. Some of it, not so much.

Interesting. Enjoyed.

Idk about this one. I started off loving it and then it all got a bit samey. Kind of disappointed

Interesting but not really for me.

An interesting and unique album, but certainly not one to which I shall be listening again.

Are there songs on this that I like? Sure! Do I think everyone needs to hear the Vikings theme song? Maybe not!

Certainly not what I was expecting, I think I read it as "Sugar Ray." This does not contain any feel-good poolside summer anthems, instead it's some cavernous electronic art-pop. I thought it was two vocalists at first, a man and woman, but it's just a woman using various vocal effects. Sometimes she sounds like Bjork, which unfortunately isn't a compliment. Some cool, spooky type of songs on here, I especially dug the first track. Pretty good album, not sure if it's "must listen before death" material but I do like it. Favorite tracks: If I Had a Heart, Dry and Dusty, Concrete Walls. Album art: Cool, picture, a modern woman in a hoodie standing in front of an old village. She's doing some sort of wizardry with her hands, creating "Fever Ray" before our eyes. It all makes sense to me. 3.5/5

Haunting, dark and mysterious. Fever Ray has always made me believe they are alien music sent here to enchant us and lull us into a mysterious spell. The vocals and music are moving, almost cinematic in nature. Very unique in sound and unlike anything else other than maybe…Bjork or Sigur Ros (yes, both Icelandic).

First 2 tracks were stand outs and promise of something great that never fully materialised,
