Entretenido a secas
I can’t believe this album is 30 years old. I can remember it coming out and Waterfalls being all over the radio! Its OK with some good pop songs but not really my thing. Favourite song: Switch, waterfalls and creep are great tunes Least favourite: Sexy interlude and Intermission lude. I am not sure they were needed Album artwork: Standard album cover
alright i guess
decent hip-hop R&B sound, liked Waterfalls.
Nice enough RnB but not ground breaking for me.
Good 90's R&B, but I don't really love 90's R&B.
you know what it is crazysexycool. Killer singles, some solid album tracks and a great Prince cover. Skip the interludes and this doesn't outstay its welcome, a rarity in 90s/00s hiphop/randb. 3.5 but glad to be taken out of the comfort zone.
Surprisingly good and surprisingly horny
Cool
Ik ben geen groot fan van R&B, maar dit album is wel heel lekker!
Not my kind of music but yeah not bad...
Fun album, with several good songs on it. Probably too many skits, but they weren't terrible.
Creep Waterfalls If I Was Your Girlfriend (Prince cover)
Girl power
Despite the fact that I don't generally care for R&B, this album sat right with me!
A very slick record. Beautiful vocals. You can't argue with Waterfalls. A classic. Red Light Special, Creep, Something Wicked... Solid 3. Think it might reach a 4 over time
Banging female MCs, 3 monster hits and a bunch of great features. But with the interludes and extensions, the album drug. It was good, but the idea of an album statement wasn't really what this was all about.
Never really engaged in this era/genre of music. Skits were kind of fun, over all pretty middle of the road.
Pretty repetitive, but not bad. It can get old pretty fast and it is not aided by the 56 minute run time. Mid three, it was alright.
A mix of old-school hip-hop, G-funk and smooth and sultry R&B. I liked the hip-hop leaning tracks more than the baby-making tunes, particularly on the earlier half of the album. “Waterfalls” is the big track but there’s a lot of style throughout.
But go off girl I guess. Ciertamente no indispensable, pero muy disfrutable. Escúchelo.
Much better than I expected
Whoever decided to record a skit with Diddy trying to have phone sex should have to share a cell with him.
Kinda cool, certainly sexy, but that's not crazy. I quite love "Waterfalls", but it wasn't my jam in '94, so I have no connection to this. It's outstanding pop music of its time, but - again, bar Waterfalls - I'd never put this on. I'd be happy if these played on the radio, today, but that's about it. Right now, in its entirety of little under an hour? Eh.
TLC were probably the world’s best pop stars at this time, but even the greatest of pop stars don’t make great albums. Because they don’t make albums at all. They make singles. And the singles here are incredible, but the rest of this is filler. I don’t blame TLC for that. That is just what pop stars do. I am going to rank this fairly highly on the strength of “Creep” and “Waterfalls” and “Diggin’ on You” but honestly this deserves no stars as an album because that’s not really what it is.
warning: tolit
Overall liked this one. Some of the slower songs are not my thing and the album is aggressively 90’s music. But their group dynamic is great and the beats are good. 3.5/5 Might listen again
Must resist the urge to make puns based on the title. Oh well. Creep is...cool. Overall not as dated sounding as I expected. Relaxed beats and atmospheres with some good bass. Waterfalls is still a big song and If I Was Your Girlfriend is probably my favorite track here. Okay, we could lose some of the interludes. I do like this though.
pretty good, very very RnB, and a couple iconic songs but it's not an album I would revisit 6/10
Meget solide beats, kendte overraskende mange af sangene i forvejen! Måtte da godt have været 40 tight minutter i stedet.
If I Was Your Girlfriend". Destacan sus dos grandes éxitos extraídos del disco, "Creep" y "Red Light Special", pero el tema que más me gusta, Waterfalls, suena como un clásico del R&B.
This album is a really good time. Biggest complaint here is the overabundance of interludes. The beats are fun, the vocals are good, the verses are tight, and everyone’s favorite person Diddy makes an appearance. Favorite songs were Creep, Waterfalls, Switch, and Sumthin’ Wicked This Way Comes.
legalzinho
esse aqui é sexy ATÉ DEMAIS, viu. tem uns beats legais e é bem gostosim. não olhem quem produziu o album.
This was better than I was anticipating. Solid mid-90s R&B album. TLC was everywhere in 1994, especially MTV. You couldn't go more than 30 minutes without seeing their videos for either "Creep," "Red Light Special," or especially "Waterfalls," which I believe dominated the VMAs the following year. A handful of tracks felt easily forgettable and the subject matter rarely veered away from their sexual escapades. However, the album suffered from pointless filler, cramming several meaningless interludes in between songs. While not as brazen or upbeat as Salt-N-Pepa, this was still a nice chance of pace.
Huge album when it came out. This is a solid R&B album when you remove the stupid interludes.
Crazy sexy boring, well overproduced hip pop, i liked the groove on waterfalls however it which followed that weird 90s morality forumla, 3 stories making some weird ass point or bad anaolgy. On the whole poor.
Waterfalls is a great song, the rest of the album is not for me. I did appreciate the humour in the interludes, especially Sexy-Interlude. Fave: Waterfalls.
Hmmmm, I had Christina Aguilera and Destiny's Child this week as well - bit of a pop streak! I think I had a more intense, but more variable reaction to this album than those other two. With them, I was pretty much ambivalent throughout, but with "CrazySexyCool" I actually kinda dig some of the tracks, and then actively dislike some of the others - I guess it's gonna wash out to a 3, but maybe a 3.5 if that were an option. 🤔 Fave tracks - I think I prefer "Creep" to "Waterfalls" when it comes to the singles, and "Diggin' On You" for the album tracks. Oh, wikipedia tells me that was a single too, huh. 🤷
a girl group! finally!!! I didn't love this as much as I thought I would. 3.5 stars
Has some good songs, really horny though
Not my thing, but they do have nice voices.
This has to be one of the horniest albums ever made
For years I thought the lyrics were 'Don't go Jason Waterfalls' and that the song was about a wayward youth called J. Waterfalls. While RnB isn't really my thing, I have big respect for these talented ladies and the roads they paved for many other artists.
This started extremely badly (Intro-lude is a truly terrible piece of "music"), so badly I nearly stopped there. The rest upto and including Waterfalls was actually somewhat enjoyable. Unfortunately after Waterfalls it was all downhill with irritation quickly increasing.
Nice enough - vocals are good, groovy songs, some of the beats are enjoyable. Waterfalls is a classic of course, and the 3 singers mesh well, they all have distinctive voices which come together. Nothing massively offensive here Surprised they mostly don't have writing credits, I gave TLC a bit more credit than that because Left Eye also had a solo career. I now position them more of a manufactured girl group than a rap collective, and that's nothing particularly special
Being an old fart, I know how HUGE this album was back in the day. Not just with the sales generated, but the cross-over effect it had. Period. Waterfall, top 200 song all time no problem. And anyone who covers a Prince-song gets an additional point. 3*
I’m not super into R&B but I know this one is a classic. I only recognized “Waterfalls.” I think I would have preferred FanMail but I didn’t mind this.
I don't think I'd ever listened to the whole album. I was optimistic but it failed to deliver.
Enjoyably funky R&B songs, the strongest of which are the famous singles which will always be classic 90s tunes
Pari letkeetä biisiä ei vielä yläilmoihin riittäny, mut hyvää tekemistä tasaisesti
not terrible
never heard the whole record, its pretty cool
It can be hard to digest an entire album when the group is so immemorially identified by their huge hits. This one was fairly listenable. But it’s a bit like Blind Melon: Sure that one song was great and the video was iconic, but do we really, 30 years later, need to know what else you did?
2-3
August 7, 2024 HL: “Sumthin’ Wicked”, “Waterfalls”, “Diggin’ on You”, “Creep” I haven’t really given classic hip-hop its due recently (with both Digital Underground & Eminem ranking pretty low on albums I can’t wait to listen to again). CrazySexyCool, while more neo-soul than rap, has been more enjoyable. Like the previous two, it also has the skits working to, if I had to guess, fill out the length to an hour. Idk if it's an essential album, but it contains some essential songs ("Creep", "Waterfalls")
CrazySexyCool by TLC is a groundbreaking album that solidified the group's place in R&B history. The blend of T-Boz, Left Eye, and Chilli's voices creates a unique and harmonious sound that's both captivating and soulful. When it's good, it's phenomenal, with standout tracks like Creep and Waterfalls showcasing their innovative approach to music and compelling storytelling. The album's production is slick, with smooth beats and lush arrangements that perfectly complement the trio's vocals. CrazySexyCool remains more intriguing and engaging than most R&B offerings of its time. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 4 STAND OUT TRACK - Waterfalls
TLC and Crazysexycool paved the way for future black women to dominate the pop sphere, specifically Beyonce. They had the hiphop/R&B crossover influence that set the tone for the '90s, which cannot be understated.
Pretty meh. Some decent tracks but nothing that was really for me.
This is an overall groovy time, and legitimately sexy, I'm impressed. It's not really the kind of thing I would listen to, but I enjoyed this, and Waterfalls is SUCH a tune. 3.5 rounded down.
3.5
Day195 - there’s some good songs but also some really bad over-produced crap. looking back those three had tons of talent unfortunately with lots of drama around them. they should release a stripped down version of this like the beatles did with let it be
Pretty cool, very sexy, but definitely not crazy
I've never listened to TLC despite them being an always popular band when I was growing up, and only heard the hits from this album, like Waterfalls and Creep. This album gives me middle school dance vibes, but I guess that's just because it's a product of that time for me. I liked Diggin on You. It's beat kind of reminded me of the one in Geto Boys Damn It Feels Good To Be a Gangsta. The guitar on Red Light Special gave me some real Prince vibes that I dug. You can also add Switch to the list of good songs that have sampled Mr Good Stuff.
Too many fillers
Maybe not as crazy as promised, but definitely sexy and cool. Dim the lights and cuddle up with your partner for this one. It's gonna get hot n heavy.
Favorites were Diggin' On You and Take Our Time
Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background A little bit of a manufactured sound for my tastes. Watefalls is the clear standout.
3.5/5
Classic 90s
Je m'attendais à beaucoup plus. Ce n'était pas mauvais, mais très similaire sur toute la durée, un peu trop long, pas tellement de pièce qui s'est démarquée. Je sais l'impact de ce band, mais ça a un peu mal vieilli. 5/10
I am not the target demo for this album or this genre of music. 90’s R&B is one genre that is almost entirely foreign to me. TLC, Boyz II Men and their contemporaries were undoubtedly insanely popular during their era, but I was under 10 years old at any point during the 90’s, growing up with white parents and friends, none of whom listened to this genre. When an episode of Parks and Recreation referenced Ginuwine, I thought his name was so ridiculous there was no way he could be real. So you see the angle from which I approached this album. I recognize the cultural importance of TLC. I recognize the talent the group had and how well made this album is. It just really isn’t for me. There are some excellent grooves here, and I really could see myself vibing to this in the right context, with the right people, in the right mood. But in a vacuum (or as much of one as I can ever exist in), this just didn’t hit like I think it was meant to. Enjoyable enough, fun, but nothing I connected to or will remember. Not yet at least. The more I listen to albums in this project, the more I can feel my tastes expanding. Maybe I’ll come back to this one later and see if it hits different. For now, three stars because I think I’m just missing something. Also the guitar on “Red Light Special” kicks ass even if the song itself is just ok. Oh and I could’ve done without all the interludes. The names were kinda cringy and it felt like they were only there to pad the runtime. Standout tracks: Kick Your Game, Case of the Fake People, Waterfalls, Switch
R'N'B classic
I had it my head that TLC were a girl pop band from the mid 2010’s, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover this slice of engaging R&B with some quirky interludes. The wiki page has the obligatory back story of drugs and crazy stuff, including Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopez setting fire to her boyfriend’s shoes and burning down her mansion. Yikes. Highlight is a cover of Prince’s If I Was Your Girlfriend.
Quite a nice sounding album, not just pop
It was better than I expected, but not by much.
Cantan bien. Rythm & Blues. Son las de waterfalls.
An ‘ok’ album except for the RAP tracks
Again, 90s hip-hop too long. Trim the fat. Choruses go on too long, interludes contribute nothing. Could have been a 4, because these three ladies were great.
I'm pretty sure musicians love making "interludes" way more than people like to listen to them.
The music is mostly calm and does sound like decent R&B but the album is a little bit too sexual for me, and one of the tracks has farting and toilet sounds at the end so I am giving this a low 3/5. A few songs are ok like Waterfalls however.
Ei oikein iskeny tää, mut ehkä en vaan ymmärrä. Ysäri ylipäätään vaikea vuosikymmen meikälle. 3/5
This album slaps. Good way to step back into 90’s R&B. Good for the sexy time playlist too. Waterfalls and Creep are two highlights for sure. They’re great. Not sure how much I would go back to this album, this would probably be a 3.5 for me, so I’ll drop it down to a 3
The album is alright, it goes on for too long though.
Creep and Waterfalls are awesome...the rest is solid. Wouldn't put it on, but didn't turn it off.
A couple of great tracks mixed with some filler
Waterfalls was a constant on MTV when I was listening to all the Grunge music. I enjoyed listening to the album and probably appreciate it more now!
Yeah, classic album from the 90s. I enjoyed several of these songs as a teen... but not all of them, as they were pretty inappropriate for me back then :-)
Good
Sehr lässiges Konzeptalbum.
Eh, didn’t really do anything for me. We don’t talk about Let’s Do It Again.
Creep // Diggin’ On You // Waterfalls //
nice change of pace. so many good songs. the end of the album falls off. 3.5
Horniest album on this platform. Man there are some bangers on here, “Diggin on you” & “Waterfalls” but when over half of the songs are about fuckin and being a slut it really drags the listening down. Theres also 5 “songs” that are bits and just people saying Crazy Sexy Cool. Andre 3000 in the last song just shows how he can steal the spotlight instantaneously. I started to feel like some of the singing and rapping was almost a parody of itself as the voices began sounding humorous instead of serious. A bit dated and waaaay to horny. 5/10
sexual female voice... JA PASKAA PASKAA PÖNTTÖÖN VETELÄÄ PASKAA RIPULIA SE ON MÄRKÄÄ PASKAA JOTA MENEE.. TAJUATKO HERRA ALBUMI MIES SIELLÄ... TLC TUNTUTAMTON PERSOONA..
I'll have to concede that I just never really dug TLC - I'm not much of a fan of early '90's American R&B with the notable exception of En Vogue. Polished production, plenty of special guests like P Diddy and Dre, but some songs sound pretty dated to me with the DX7 sounds. Aside from Waterfalls which is definitely the highlight, I was pleasantly surprised by Switch.
very sexual TLC album with a lot of interludes
All i knew of TLC was Waterfalls, and thats still a pretty great song. The rest of the album is ok, though I think most of the appeal to me was it being R&B, which I haven't had a lot of. While it was nice to listen to something different, it's a little too romantic for me to seek listening to this. My favorites were probably Diggin' On You and Waterfalls.
This isn't really a style of music I care for, but it does it pretty well. Overall I didn't mind listening to it, a few bangers, and extreme horniness. A classic 3.
Didn't hold up like I thought it would for me. L loved some songs, annoyed by others
Liked it less than Destiny's Child, but more interesting than most other 90s R&B acts that I know about (admittedly not many of them)
90s R&B, but without the moaning, except for a skit. Made me uncomfortable. Not my style, but the vibes are good. There is a sort of story throughout, strung together with the interludes and such. Some songs really embrace the 90s funk and sampling. The finale has a really cool blown out guitar. I liked it a little more than the D’Angelo album I had listened to. Standouts: Kick Your Game, Waterfalls, Let’s Do It Again, Sumthin’ Wicked This Way Comes.
Yeah, it's fine.
Wikipedia says the genre is R&B / Hip Hop Soul, which feels about right - a better description might be a female version of Prince, but not quite as funky/
- Classic - Not as many Bangerz as I thought there would be.
Certainly not the genre that would be high on my priority list to check out, and that’s part of the reason I’m forcing myself to do this project so that’s good! Solid album, a nice mix of vibes and moods for the most part and a lot of head bobbers. Didn’t amaze me at any point, I think because other groups have taken inspiration and done these sounds so the novelty has worn off, but an enjoyable experience overall. TLC’s Waterfalls is an absolute, timeless bop.
It's alright. Favorite song: Switch.
Nice maar niet wow ofzo
carried by creep and waterfalls ... why didnt andre 3k have a verse?
Not my thing, but that doesn't mean it's without merit. If you like this sort of music I suppose this would be pretty good. But it's music you don't need to engage with.
I thought this album was pretty good, which makes sense because TLC have reached legendary status as far as 90s music in general goes. I knew Creep and Waterfalls coming in, but I was pleasantly surprised by a few of the other tracks Diggin’ on You and Switch. Still, I wouldn’t say it’s an album I’d listen to on repeat, I’d just come back for that handful of songs. Rest in peace, Left Eye.
"Wouldn't ya like a girl who has a nice sense of humor? That can kick it? Make you laugh? Then on the other side in the bedroom whip that thang on?". Yes ma'am. I do like that kind of girl. A fun change of pace. Not my typical genre, but I still enjoyed. Who doesn't like "Waterfalls"?!
Not really my thing.
The opposite
Throwback to the 90’s hip hop poppy music
Good R&B album
One of prominent music acts of the 90s. I could not stand them at the time; have really come to appreciate their art since. Still, not something I would intentionally seek to listen to, but not opposed to hearing if it's on.
I think this is the first time I have enjoyed interludes on an album also “Waterfalls” is a classic.
funny
Pop-soul comercial. Un megahit. Ni fu ni fa.
Waterfalls is an absolute banger. In my opinion, if you take that one song out, this album would have some good songs but be pretty mid as a whole product. The production is nice but nothing special, there are too many interludes (and a lot of filler in general), and the vocals can border on annoying. I think this one just didn't land for me. I did appreciate the callback to Prince with If I Was Your Girlfriend. 6/10. Favorite Songs: Diggin' On You, Waterfalls, Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes Least Favorite Songs: All of the interludes
respectable. easy to ignore. Not really craved.
Nokkur af lögunum eru þekkt og góð en ég fílaði þetta ekkert eitthvað ofboðslega mikið. Ekkert slæmt, bara ekki fyrir mig og ég er ólíklegur til að hlusta aftur.
Not a huge fan of it myself, but I recognize it's legacy. Without TLC we wouldn't have the likes of Destiny's Child today. Also, what's with all of the interludes?
not my favorite tlc album.
I really liked some of these and forgot about others. Suffers from a lot of bloat like other albums from the 90s
Liked it more than I thought I would. Some cool funk elements to go along with some smooth R&B and hip-hop. Some of the interludes are annoying. It's also too long and a bit too horny. But a decent listen.
Just okay imho with two good songs.
Well executed 90's nympho RnB... Obviously not exactly a high brow genre but waterfalls pushes it to a 3
Decent all round
Some songs great but overall hard to listen to, clearly an album made by a man designing a girl group that was "different" from other girls
Waterfalls is a banger
Yep
I think it's okay, I didn't find any enjoyment nor dissatisfaction listening to this
Just seemed like a standard 90's pop album to me. Not bad but I didn't find anything special about it.
Enjoyed this much more than I expected didnt think TLC had much more than their big singles. This is a top 90’s female hip hop album, with a couple of annoying skits as standard. Not one I’ll add to my rotation, but worthy of its place on the list.
"Waterfalls" is an obvious fave on this, and overall it's a good R&B pop album with some edge, solid production, and talent. But it's really just not my style overall and I don't see a need to relisten outside of the few singles.
Enjoyed it more than I thought. Great beats great flow.
Pretty standard 1001 entry here, reasonable album with a few good tracks. Enjoyed the closer.
This is a music of its' time with all good and bad aspects of 90s.
- This is a very sexy album - Production and mix was very crisp - Not really my thing but it was totally enjoyable - 3.5
Funky but a little repetitive for my ear. An enjoyable listen and 90’s nostalgic
Didnt mind it. not amazing.
3.5
Well, it's better than most of the R&B on this list but it sure didn't age well. The beats are dated, the lyrics are cringe, and overall vibe is just kinda... yech. It was gonna be a 2 but "Creep" and "Waterfalls" are both alright.
Red light special était bien... Sexy interlude c'était une expérience 😳 Enthousiasmée quand j'ai vu le nom TLC, je suis finalement un peu déçue... Je pense que je préfère le RnB des années 2000 psk il est + teinté de pop
Fun, 2,5
Waterfalls and some good lesser known songs, but nothing special.
It's certainly sexy and cool but the last 15 minutes takes forever to get through
first listen good album, i think i'd rate it higher if i was 5 years older and grew up on it
would be a 4 if there wasn’t so many goddamn interludes
Some bangers. But why do they have some fake as sex scenes? Also the skits are pretty dead, saying that as a fan of skits
Very 90s R&B. Waterfalls is a banger. Wouldn't go back to listen to the album very often.
Best selling album by a girl group! Just launches right into CREEP. Damn. Have never listened to the whole album... but the hits on this are bangers for ever.
Sumt alveg top notch R&B, annað í miðlungsflokki. Overall næs plata.
This album was super popular when I was a kid and it pretty much holds up. I had a good time listening.
Thought this was going to be awesome because Creep and Waterfalls are bangers. Nope, those are the only good songs on the album
Mid.
incredible jack swing r ja b research and belevopment... honottava vinkumisääni... eli tosi hyvä.. tarvi mitään hienostella kultakurkut.. loppujenlopuksi kuitenkin 90's R%B hip hop genre genre lisää tähän joku genre vielä.... näin arvostellaan albumi vittu listataan genret...... suatana sentään mitä.. mikä päänpisto tullut että ei TUNNETA ALBUMIA....SIELUSSA..... KOLME KAU?TTA VIISI.. wotahfalls
MEH.. You go right to "Waterfalls" aft listen through the first few song... "Take Our Time" not bad... like early Janet Jackson.
There are a couple of amazing tracks on here, but the rest are underwhelming
The highs are really high, but just too many lows in between to make me want to come back to it. Could’ve cut some filler songs and probably didn’t need 34 interludes and would’ve given it more replay value. 6/10
Two conflicting thoughts 1. I have never liked “Ooh, ooh Baby” music 2. I’ve always liked the Waterfalls song Is this where I say the exception proves the rule? I like that one song - Switch was okay too. But I am generally not a fan. Samey,Lamey,Dull
On one hand, I really appreciated listening to a pop/R&B album from the days before vocal acrobatics and auto-tune ruled the day. On the other, this dragged in the same slow-tempo "I know you know I know you want me" vibe for the entire album. Even "Waterfalls" was way slower than I remembered, and the Prince cover was a miss. Prince singing "If I Was Your Girlfriend" is one thing, but the new perspective here doesn't lend any new insights. It's just safe and flat — which kind of describes the whole affair. This might be more of a 3.5, it was solid enough, but the material and insistence on sticking to thumping slow beats tamped down any excitement these ladies bring to the party.
That cover art is fire. The music's all right, I guess. Seemed kinda average, but what do I know.
While I still love the song Waterfalls so much, the whole album was a bit bland.
1994, the year right before I moved here again from Montana. What an awkward time of my life that was. Creep was definitely still playing on the radio when I came in 95. I almost died that year. Tried killing myself by jumping out in front a car one morning on my way to school. It was still dark, but I remember it so vividly. I tried so hard to time it just right, and then was even more depressed to know that I couldn't even kill myself right. Looking back now, I'm glad I didn't succeed. I'm grateful for every day I wake up to a new sunrise. I'm grateful for every experience I've had since then. All the good the bad and the ugly. Teenagers are so stupid. lol
Meh
Standouts: Creep, Diggin' on You, Waterfalls, Red Light Special, If I Was Your Girlfriend, Switch 3.5
Didn't expect much, but not bad.
It's good. Nice production. Sounds like a Prince record. Probably deserves a 4. But it ain't getting that from me.
Some great tracks some okay tracks and some meh for a solid 3 stars.
Crazy? Not really. Sexy? Better believe it brothers and sisters! Cool? As fuck! Very good album, beautiful soul inspired hip hop tinged pop album.
I mean it's not that bad: waterfalls always bangs whenever it's played but other than that it was just bleh. Couldn't see myself listening to the album again and I don't think many people would. The epitome of saved by one song.
Good, but without any way being spectacular.
A solid 3.5
Familiarity: 0/10 Honestly, not what I expected. For a girl pop group, they focus more on rnb, hip hop, and rap. Would consider diving more into this; Left Eye’s got a wild history too. TRUE Rating: 6.5/10
Oh well... I'm not gonna deny it, I was about to dismiss this album as something that probably aged horribly before listening to it. But it turns out some aspects of said album are considerably fresher than what I had envisioned at first. What I liked the most is how the production and instrumentation on this thing were subtle and understated enough to elicit genuine interest from folks that are not necessarily part of TLC's target demographic. I thought the production values would have all the self-aggrandizing elements of 90s r'n'b that could have turned such pre-neosoul endeavors into a cheesefest from our current vantage point. Turns out the album didn't have those flaws at all. Actually, *CrazySexyCool* is prophetic in the way it mixed pure hip-hop elements into its mix (I wasn't bothered by the many interludes, for instance). If only its second side had been as effective as the first, it would clearly be an LP that would need to be included in a list of "essential" albums. Unfortunately, if you take the list of highlights from this thing, they're all crammed in its first part: "Creep", "Kick Your Game", "Diggin' On You", "Red Light Special"... And of course, there's smooth and catchy "Waterfalls". I like the tune well enough, even if there's something a bit odd in its chorus : the first lines soar like not many other r'n'b hits, but I think its conclusion is a little abrupt and even falls flat on its face. It's how the melody ends, for one thing. But it's also because that "moving too fast" line doesn't rhyme with anything else before, which is quite bizarre in my book. Do people notice these things? I do. And it's relatively grating to my ears. Maybe I'm splitting hair here--"Waterfalls" still deserves to be remembered--but I'm bringing this out because this particular flaw, suggesting last minute-changes, or "writing-in-comitees" shenanigans, is found in quite a few other tunes from the LP--ones less catchy that "Waterfalls" to boot. Other vocal lines *do* end up clumsily in *CrazySexyCool*. And lyrically, the mindset of an "emancipated" girl is explored well enough, but it's sometimes conveyed through obvious clichés and tired turns of phrases: "Let's make love all night, *yaddi yadda*". You probably know the drill by now. Not that there couldn't have been ways to explore those topics in a straightforward manner that could still be interesting on a lyrical viewpoint. Contrary to other reviewers in here, I have absolutely zero complaints about the topics addressed in the songs. Women expressing their lustful desires should not elicit any more eyebrow raising movements than if men express such topics, period. Funny how tons of albums where the latter case happens rarely trigger any negative mention from reviewers (here and elsewhere), and then when women do it, it becomes a problem. And kudos to that one reviewer saying he has a problem with TLC's lyrics, but that it's the same for men tackling those sex topics. At least that person has a cohesive take about the whole issue. But... yeah, well, all of this is interesting to an extent, but as I said before, I think the second part of the LP is pretty lackluster anyway, first in terms of catchiness, and also in its production values--clearly less stellar than on the first side. "Switch" is pretty good, even if it won't keep me up at night. But closer "Sumthing Wicked This Way Comes", with its fake alt-rock guitar riffs, is awkward as f*ck--and no amount of Jimi Hendrix's "Are You Experienced" apparent samples on top of it will make me change my mind about how clumsy the whole thing sounds--nor would an early featuring of a very young Andre 3000 (of Outkast fame) as endearing as that detail is. As for the rest of the second side's tracks (a bland sugary ballad here, a dancefloor cut going through the motions there), it's not even worth discussing about. And yes, that probably includes the Prince-penned "If I Was A Girlfriend". It's an extraordinary song for sure, but here it's turned into a pretty unimaginative cover version that adds absolutely nothing to the original. Plus, TLC's trio have wonderful vocal skills, that goes without saying (you're not in that type of band through mere luck), yet even such skills can't make you forget a vocal performance by "The Artist/Love Symbol a.k.aThe Minneapolis Purple Diminutive Genius". And what a performance. By all means, listen to the original version if you haven't already. So yeah, CrazySexyCool is a mixed bag overall. I have some sympathy for part of what it does, but it probably won't be in my own list of keepers. Unless, miraculously, I find some use for it at the very last minute... 3/5 for the purposes of this list of "essential" albums, translating to a 8/10 grade for more general purposes (5+3). Next please. Number of albums left to review: 456 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 254. Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 130 (including this one) Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 162
Heavy, heavy innuendo, but the melodies were nice. Instrumentals were softer than I expected, which is a nice twist.
Le rap dans Waterfalls éteint toute la carrière d'Ice Cube
donnez no scrubs …..
3.5, too much filler
So much adolescence
I veered between hating this and almost liking a few songs, especially the last one. I just didn't like this stuff when I was at high school and it's hard to detach. But these obviously very talented ladies were a product of their time and social milieu. They made some good music. And said Sexy a lot.
Pretty enjoyable album. All the songs kind of sound the same though.
Oh for a 90’s rap/r&b album that is a) shorter and b) has no skits Still this has some pretty strong songs, creep and waterfalls being the stand outs A very high 3
Not bad, my sister loved it.
Was good, but not for me. Great beats and sound all around
This was good !! High 3*
This is probably the most 3 album i've heard yet on here. I love a nice 90s hip-hop/rnb beat, and there's some great ones on here especially near the start, but there's a lot that aged like milk. The interludes too are so unnecessary and i'll never understand why 90s albums were full of them. The lyrics are pretty straightforward, not really anything too deep, but the choruses and fun and they have great voices. Might come back to a couple songs off here but that's it really. Don't regret hearing it.
Je n'aurais sûrement jamais réécouté cet album par moi-même; j'ai aimé le petit voyage dans le temps. C'est agréable d'entendre des voix féminines asservies qui se positionnent par rapport à ce que les artistes masculins du même genre produisent.
It's a smooth and almost elegant album, but drags on a bit after the hot start in the first half. TLC is more than just Waterfalls though, which is my real takeaway from this. Good work, but I won't be itching to come back to it anytime soon.
This started off so strong and lost me the second half, was feeling a 4 but it fell off.
C+ Intro-Lude - 3 Creep - 4 Kick Your Game - 4 Diggin’ On You - 3 Case of the Fake People - 2 CrazySexyCool (Interlude) - 2 Red Light Special - 2 Waterfalls - 4 Intermission-Lude - 3 Let’s Do It Again - 3 If I Was Your Girlfriend - 2 Sexy (Interlude) - 1 Take Our Time - 2 Can I Get a Witness (Interlude) - 2 Switch - 3 Sumthin’ Wicked This Way Comes - 3 This was pretty good. I'm a big TLC fan, but I'm much more familiar with their album Fanmail. The album cover is awesome though, definitely a top one I've seen from the Jenny.
Highlights: "Kick Your Game," "Waterfalls," "Red Light Special," "Take Our Time" You just cannot talk about the teeny bopper superstars of the next ten years without this album. The direct influence on Britney Spears especially is undeniable. What's funny is the changes from late 80s pop are so subtle; there are relics of electropop lying around for sure, like the comical vocaloid portamento on "Diggin on You". Maybe their cover of Prince is telling. Maybe it's the envelope funk timbres and heavy tempos that gave it a fresh feel, or the heavy use of jazzy sampling that wouldn't feel out of place in ATCQ. That said, not even close to a masterpiece album. You can tell production was chaotic, and the strong sense of style doesn't prevent songs from dithering in cheap sleaze. Very uneven, but definitely a turning point for pop music.

And thousands of alcoholic American mothers driving around their groceries and stupid bratty children, completely destroying the environment and last but not least... 6. Thin-layer chromatography Because what would we do without you. And zinc.
Ehhhh it was okay. Had the couple good songs. Nothing crazy good or bad. I guess I could listen to it. Average.
totally not something I would ever have listened to at the time but give it 30 years and this is a pretty fun album for me.
Den gode 90'er pop, catchy, flere bangers, seksuelt
Just all about sex, but I guess it’s quite groovy
A little too samey surprisingly, but there is good stuff going on. Just a note that probably got played too much.
Pretty good, but the story behind the album and the group getting paid for it is much cooler imo
Waterfalls is a banger. Nothing else really grasped me though.
They really did run with that Crazy, Sexy, Cool theme
It was fun. Enjoyed it.
While I really enjoyed the two big hits on this album, I couldn't fully engage with the rest of the songs on here. I think that kind of music is just not for me. I think it was decent overall, but I'll stick to TLC's hits.
The singles are good, "Waterfalls" has wonderful production, but the album cuts I think are going to take me longer to crack into. Not my favorite album in this style, but it's all pretty good. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could.
They are an iconic female R&B group and as far as the genre goes this is a very good album. That said, I was pretty bored of a lot of the same sound by the end. Still a good listen and Waterfalls is great.
5/14, 36%
hello nineties! lots of memorabilia, but in 2023 doesn't feel as groundbreaking as it was, which is hard to keep in mind for so many of these albums
Well constructed R&B songs with some indisputable bangers. I would say this music was constructed to be the background tunes for many a saucy night, but includes some deeper consciousness tracks to explore culture. Overall fun music, and well processed and mastered tracks. The rating simply reflects my perception of this genre. Not something i seek to play regularly.
The intro is sick. Followed by a real disappointment. But aside from "Creep", the album is pretty decent, I vibed to it.
Chillin and enjoyable
Felt like I was in scenes from a nineties romcom and/or chic click throughout this.
Decent album. Girl group pop before it became mass-produced cheese. Sexy-Interlude was like being slapped in the face with a freshly-caught salmon.
relaciones sexuales
3.5 stars. 90's R&B. An easy listen but nothing overly special. Standout track is the catchy "Waterfalls."
Buenas voces y ritmos, para un grupo que aportó soul y pop a ritmos iguales. Para escuchar relajadamente
saucygroovydull
Not usually my type of music. But I actually enjoyed the album. I think I've heard Waterfalls from somewhere before. 3.4/5
Was half expecting something like the black Spice Girls here. But to be honest there’s more to this record than meets the eye. Some interesting production, catchy choruses and biting humour make this a really fun listen. There’s no denying this record has dated a lot, but there’s a lot of merit in these songs. “Waterfalls” is the obvious classic, but “Kick Your Game” was another standout for me. Colour me surprised, this album was good.
Decent
very cunty
This album is EXTREMELY 90s. Not something I'm gonna put on all the time or anything, but honestly quite fun, I see the appeal.
It's what 90's RnB was all about. Chilled harmonics with a funky beat.
3.75
Waterfalls and Creep are great tracks, the rest are so-so
A few really solid tracks mixed amid a pile of just plain average.
<3 :P » • Let's Do It Again, outro : « WOW!! :O »
This is smooth R&B. It's ok and deserves to be here but not groundbreaking or particularly special.
Much more erotic than I remember.

I’m supposed to say that this album is Crazy, Sexy, and Cool right? That’s the low hanging fruit review to give. Waterfalls is an undeniable pop cultural phenomenon that I will always remember from my 90s youth. I’m not much of a fan otherwise though. Talented women, love their style, but I’m not interested in a full album. Respect for the great hits on here though.
Best Song: Waterfalls. I fucking love this song. The hooks, the lyrics, that chorus. I legitimately think this is a perfect song. Worst Song: Case of the Fake People. This kind of diatribe against "fake people" feels really dated now. Overall: Some brilliant tracks on here, but the album is weighed down by the unnecessary and too-frequent interludes. Either expand them into full songs or leave them out, in my opinion.
Absolutely a decent record, but nothing more than this honestly.
Some undeniable hits, but too much fluff to garner a higher rating. Should be about six tracks shorter. 3/5
Cool, funky and a great Listen.
Some terrible skits hold back a pretty great pop/r&b album
This was a brilliant album in terms of consistency, but it was a little bit long for me, probably because I'm not super into this genre and have some difficulty connecting with it. Despite this, I did add multiple songs from this onto my playlist so I must be starting to get it :)
CrazySexyCool is a decent album, though 9am on a working weekday probably isn't the intended listening hour :D I remember bits of it from the 90s and it's really good in places, but quite once-paced and I'm fairly sure every album that has ever added skits and interludes could bin them all off and nobody would notice.
Sounds like a 2000s girl band with some edge, which isn't bad for a record from 1994. Chasing Waterfalls is the song that everyone will know, but the album as a whole has a fair bit more edge to it. Flits between R&B and hip hop, does both of them pretty well. 3/5, annoying amount of interludes that never really hit.
I remember this album well from when I was a teenager because my sister played it on repeat. Waterfalls was a jam back then, it was on every radio station constantly. This album is super thirsty in that the dominant topic of conversation is sex. The music is a good blend of R&B, pop, and 90's hip hop. I really like the harmonies that the three women can achieve. I found that the first half of this album was better than the second half. Favourite songs: Waterfalls, Red Light Special (great guitar solo in this porno groove sounding song), Switch, Diggin' On You, Kick Your Game, Creep Least favourite songs: Let's Do It Again, If I Was Your Girlfriend, Take Our Time, and all the Interludes throughout (Intro-lude, CrazySexyCool - Interlude, Intermission-lude, Sexy - Interlude, and Can I Get A Witness - Interlude). These frequent interludes throughout the album remind me of Lauryn Hill's album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and like that album, I find they distract from the overall flow of the record. 3/5
Favorite song: Waterfalls Feeling crazy, sexy, and cool. Not really my style of music. I still like the cover of Waterfalls by Death Cab for Cutie more.
Just not my thing.
Pretty good. Not particularly distinguishable from a lot of 90's R&B.
Ok. Had a funny moment but otherwise I'm kinda indifferent.
3/3 rap&b
Pretty good
It's got a couple of great songs (specially Waterfalls which is an all-time classic) but the album as a whole gets a bit repetitive and has far too many skits/interludes to be a really cohesive listen
Pretty good 👍
crazy sexy cool! 6/10
I was honestly surprised at how good the first half is. The interludes didn’t bother me, the productions and beats are killer and there’s a fair amount of bangers. Then the second half kicks in and I slowly lose interest. I don’t particularly care for their vocals when they rap and the songwriting is simply more boring. Just as I was about to almost defend the inclusion of interludes, “Sexy-Interlude” kicks in. Oh how I love me some potty humor; just what I needed.. Fuck you whoever thought of this. The last interlude is likewise about 2 minutes too long. Luckily André 3000 swoops in and saves the day on the awesome last song - this offers just enough redemption, along with the first class production on this whole thing, to deserve a 3.
It's a concept album, right? 'cause they spent the whole album talking about "crazy, sexy, cool".
better than i thought!
Very rnb. Cover is so familiar even though I never owned it.
Decent
I expected a rap/hip-hop album, but was pleasantly surprised. The songs mostly are R&B and genereally flow nicely in the background. Waterfalls is the obvisous standout. There is some rapping, but it's not as annoying as on many other albums. 3/5
Took a while for it to ”click” but I’m glad I have it a chance.
Good album. Never noted the obvious Prince comparisons. I wanted something a little more dance-able on the album, though.
Loved by fans and critics. 11 million copies sold. It's like RnB mixed with the Supremes.(6/10) FT: Creep, Waterfalls
Mediocre '90s hiphop R&B.
This album was horny, and I liked it! Lol
Good vibe, enjoyed the album.
Creep and Waterfalls are classics - rest is meh. Needs more Andre 3K
The really well known songs do a lot of the heavy lifting on this album. It rates well overall, but mostly because of them
Slightly conflicted with this one. Not really what I would usually listen to but I quite liked it
Better than expected. Many good songs. 3/5
Ok Waterfalls is a seriously good track, but we knew that. Rest of the album is 'ok'
Competent 90s pop r&b. Obviously Waterfalls is a banger but the rest I'm indifferent.
Way darker production than I expected that would've been helped with se diversified subject matter. interesting to hear waterfalls in the broader context of the album though
no "no scrubs"
Bueno, agradable
Nice and smooth, not really huge beats. Glad that the interlude's that were popular in 1990s hip-hop albums have somewhat been toned down.
The title says it all
A good example of the 90s R&B scene. Liked a couple of tracks, but wondered if having more than 12 songs of the same thing was necessary
Wow, this was a bit of a letdown. I was expecting more. It sounds dated and like typical 90's R&B cheese (where they took all the 80's synth and fake instruments and tried to make it sound cooler). These ladies were definitely better than cheese but this album is average at best.
Sexy vibe, smooth and slick production. This was a really talented group of performers and this album was fire in ’94. Even I owned a copy, and I was never really into this kind of music. The hip hop underpinnings of these songs that made them sound so cool and fresh at the time make them sound somewhat dated now. The best songs ultimately are the ones that go more for straight R&B. The subject matter sometimes tends to be oversexed, which gets tiring. A little goes a long way with that sort of thing. As for the interludes, there are too many of them and they add nothing to the album. Rounded up to a 3 because when they’re good, TLC hits it out of the park. But there are more than a few skippable tracks. Fave Songs: Creep, Diggin' On You, If I Was Your Girlfriend, Waterfalls, Kick Your Game
3/5
Iconic album cover. I've definitely never listened all the way through but I like the TLC I've heard. Happy to give it a listen. It's a bit one dimensional in that it's definitely all about the singing. The backing tracks are just that, just the vaguest support to the vocals; indeed I occasionally wished the producer put the backing even further back. That said, the songs are smoooth, gorgeous, and drip with sexy confidence garnished with a cheeky wink. The interludes are a bit jarring and break up the flow; sexy-interlude in particular completely breaks the mood. That's probably the point, otherwise the album would be one big blur with a few standout moments. Actually, thinking about it more, that would be better. Overall the album gets into its zone and stays there. A good groove, enjoyable listen. 3 stars as is, 4 without the interludes. Waterfalls is, of course, a standout tune.
Boy this was huge in 1994. I must have seen that Waterfalls video a hundred times but I don't think I ever listened to the while album before. Dated in places but holds up. RIP Phife on the intro track!
Waterfalls is just fantastic.
Creep, Red Light Special and Waterfalls are enjoyable. The other tracks lean way too heavily into the crazysexycool motif as if it is enough to make it great. It is pretty disposable, though Switch and Sumthin' Wicked pull the album out of it's nosedive towards the end.
Not for me...
would rate 3.5 if I could. some very solid all time hits, 90s style skits and silky r+b style really date the album imo
Pop-soul comercial. Un megahit. Ni fu ni fa.
Cantan bien. Rythm & Blues. Son las de waterfalls. 3
To me, this album is definitely a product of its time. I think it’s a jam for what it is, but is not something I’d go out of my way to listen to.
Crap
The R&B stuff is great. I like it more than the more pop sounds.
Everything you’d expect it to be.
Fruity
A lot of cheesy R’n’B stuff that’s not really my thing… but there were a couple of redeeming tracks. This is ok!
I have no problem with this
It was more funky than I expected which is a welcome shift from the plant pop groups that would dominate the late 90s. This music was at times, funny, sexual, and socially conscious. I can see why it's a celebrated album. It just doesn't do much for me personally, but I appreciate it for what it is. It does run a bit long and is a bit over produced for my taste
I remember Waterfalls when this came out, but it was never really my thing at the time. This was okay overall.
