Reviews (page 6 of 7)

Good album, these are the roots of actual R&B. But i won't hear it again.

Well produced album with well done vocals, but I just wasn’t crazy about these songs.

Sounded all very similar and the songs being about the same topics got old quickly

quite a lot is enjoyable. Waterfalls is really good. I can see why people are into this kind of thing.

I bought this CD when it came out, haven't listened to it complete in about 25 years. Damn good 90s Hip-Hop Soul. Forgot about how Lisa Lopes was the crazy in the Crazy Sexy Cool, but her talent was taken from us too soon.

… some fun tunes … titillating but the imperatives get a little tiresome

Essentially a t-boz solo album with minor contributions from chilli and left eye. Left eye was having lots of problems at this time so barely features and I dont think chilli was prominent on any or their albums. Great production and great but sparse features but really only 6 out of 16 are worth a re listen and only waterfalls and creep at a stretch are really good so this is a solid 3. Waterfalls is still a great song.

Soooo... which one is favorite? You like Chili, don't you? I'm a Left Eye fan. Why doesn't T-Boz get any love... I think I'm the only one that didn't buy this album when it came out. And, why would I? All the ladies I knew were playing this nonstop and the Waterfalls video (great video BTW) was played ever 15 mins. on MTV. Though this is the first time I've listened to it all the way thru, it's apparent that the album was intended to be a hit in itself and not just an album that had some hit songs. I enjoyed the 'interludes' and respites between tracks. Maybe I overlooked it in the '90s but it seems like a different approach to making music, perhaps novel for the times. In the 90's you threw in a CD and were basically a captive audience. No Spotify to immediately toggle between bands/albums and because it plays so well, it's easy enough to play it again. I enjoyed it today. It's very well put together, but too much a throwback to the 90's to get more love from me...

Iconic album art

The bangers are bangers, the rest was actually a little underwhelming. Was there a poop joke in the middle??

I wrote a lot about TLC. And then forgot to save it. Doh! This album is "cool." But I think its coolness may have been heightened by the time period in which it came out. It was peak MTV, and the music videos from this album, especially "Waterfalls," are intrinsically tied to these songs. It was also a time when women in music were openly and boldly talking about their sexuality - we wouldn't have WAP today if it wasn't for TLC and Salt n Pepa. (Credit to Kate on that one.) This album is "sexy." And it's in the sultry songs where it excels the best, and those type of songs are also best suited for the voices of T-Boz and Chilli. I was a little worried at first on "Creep," where I was really underwhelmed by the vocals. They're not amazing singers, just good, and some of these songs that utilized their voices better than others. However, as good as this album might be for turning the lights down low, it probably killed the mood with the funniest bit on the album, the prank call of "Sexy-Interlude" that ends with a toilet flushing. This album is "crazy" too. Or at least, TLC's story is. From ditching their founding third member, to drama between group members, to Left Eye almost burning her house down setting fire to a bathtub full of her abusive boyfriend's shoes. Left Eye, by the way, is the real star and stand-out here. Her verses are the best part of every song. Overall, this is the first album that I've had to consider how much (if at all) I'll let the nostalgia factor influence my reviews. "Crazysexycool" is not as good as I remembered. It has a few very fondly remembered hit singles, and while I get why it was a big hit at the time, it doesn't hold up quite as well.

Not a style I'm into, but this is an enjoyable listen.

I once purchased this album through the BMG music subscription service. Side note: my parents did not police what albums I bought at all. Additional side note: this was when I bought albums entirely based on the singles, which is not a great way to acquire quality albums. I don’t remember ever listening to anything but the singles on CrazySexyCool, but still 14 year old me was so with it! Creep and Waterfalls stand the test of time as excellent songs. Waterfalls was also timely for me in the mid-1990s. A few short years later my town switched area codes and had to start using all 10 digits for a phone call. I bring this up because I could no longer use the 7 digit numbers that I was used to for my whole life up to that point. Yet another side note: I must recognize that these are lyrics from Weird Al’s parody Phony Calls from his 1996 Bad Hair Day album that came out the year before the area code switch. Im laughing hard at myself because Weird Al is so good I actually thought these were the TLC lyrics until I double checked just before submitting my rating. I sure hope Weird Al is on the 1001 album list. He deserves it. I recognize and like Busta Rhymes on Can I Get A Witness (Interlude). André 3000 also shows up on the last track. Both their appearances are interesting in retrospect because TLC was likely the more well known act and helped propel their careers a bit. Overall this is a solid album by the best selling American female group of all time (#2 worldwide behind the spice girls). I forgot that they were that big. I only remember the singles and that Left Eye burned Andre Rison’s house 6 months before this album was released. Good times.

-\"Creep\" is catchy, I like the doubled chorus bits -Perfectly palatable hip-hop stuff

Some real bops that I know and love. Otherwise typical r&b. Kinda raunchy at parts

Sound track of high school for me.

omg. sounded good but a little bit boring.

Beste sang: waterfall Heilt greit liksom, kunne hørt på det. Noen bra sangar, men noen dårlige

Really enjoyable

Love me some TLC though they did start to become too samey even for me so it's a 3 for me

I am amazed. This is good. I wasn't expecting to like this. Their singles are too poppy for me. The rest is good.

Good groove. En Vogue did it better.

not particularly crazy sexy or cool, to be honest suffers as influences so much bad music which came after

The album that spurned a million shite British R&B groups. I'm looking at you Eternal. And you The Honeyz. Despite the above issue which isn't really their fault this is actually a pretty decent album. Its far too long but the good tracks are bangers. Extra point for a Prince cover. 3/5

Hmmm... it’s okay, it’s a soul, rap, pop record. Don’t really know why it’s in the list, but with 1001 spaces I guess there’s room for this. I wouldn’t be able to really tell the difference from All Saints or Eternal maybe. Good but not exceptional.

“CrazySexyCool” by TLC (1994) An album that is like window shopping in Amsterdam. This hyper-produced girl group puts out a sound that is interesting for low-pitched vocal register—a feature that presents musical problems, but is pleasing enough. Lyrically reinforcing every embarrassingly slutty stereotype in the urban lexicon, it’s clear what and to whom they (their managers) are trying to sell. But the listener forms no connection to the artists as persons. This is poverty. But it’s crazy; it’s sexy; it’s cool. Truth in advertising. I’m happy to take a hit. 3/5

Quite liked this

Hip hop soul/R&B. I want to give it a 10/10 and a 0/0. 5/10, an R&B fan would like this a lot more than me.

Je me surpris a aimer un dimanche matin. Bon r&b precursseur augirls band debut 2000

Oh hell yeah great album!

Goeie slaapkamermuziek

Felt like sex

Ikoniskt 90 taligt. Ganska mycket same same, men en del riktigt bra. Gillade!

Backgroundmusic I can listen to when I'm working. Waterfalls is the only song I realy know. And I think that one is a good song.

90s female hip hop. Love it

One of their most famous albums, but not really my type of sound. Decent to listen to, with some classics like Waterfall.

Don't go chasing waterfalls, please stick to the rivers and lakes that you're used to. I know what you want to have it your way or nothing at all, but I think you're moving too fast.

Some good hits at the end of the album

Decent album. Not surprising my favourite songs are the ones produced by Organized Noize.

Efficient, formerly ubiquitous mid-90s R&B. Not my thing, but can’t argue it’s not good at what it does

Highlight: Waterfalls In a nutshell: girls to the front. This is a tough one. It's the first appearance of Southern (via Atlanta) hip-hop on the list, their music is good as a pop product yet they are most remembered for Waterfalls than the full album internationally. It's a pity the trio were ripped off. Overall: 4/10

Boring and blah.

I always thought it was Thick Lucky Cock. 2/5

Not a fan

Come on man, I'm at work.

just boring to me sorry :(

objectively slayed but not for me. listened to while late night studying over a glass of red wine.

Якась попса з мого дитинства… :/ Creep класний трек. Гарна музика і не дратуючий вокал не таке солодке і приторне R&B, як я уявляв. If I Was Your Girlfriend теж клас, гарна басуха і майже індастріел біт. Коротше піде. Мабуть через те що це 90ті, то і звучання ближче до репу тих часів, тому мені більше зайшло ніж R&B з нульових би зайшло.

This was not bad. I’d only heard their hits but overall was decent r&b with some hip hop.

Too many skips

минус балл за унитазный юмор.

Some classics in here but overall not a fan of the album.

The introlude and Creep are great and then this just falls completely off for me. I'm almost a year into this list and I've heard so many awful interludes and skits. The lyrics are bad, the music is okay when there is actually any. Creep got my hopes up because that one is great.

This fails my 'take away the vocals, and what is left' test. It's also not for me. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ ★★☆☆☆ (4/10) Total reviewed : 323 Already owned : 74 Purchased : 15 To buy : 4 Nope : 230

Diddy mentioned

Creep, Waterfalls, and Sumthin Wicked This Way Comes are my favorite tracks on the album. Definitely takes me back to the 90’s and summertime as a kid.

no me agrado, fue dificil de escuchar por momentos

Quite enjoyed listening in the train but not one im likely to revisit. The singles are the best tracks.

Mixed quality and doesn't quite hold my attention for the full length but the highlights are very high.

It's just okay. Probably won't listen to this again.

Gear: HEDD Audio HEDDphone Two Artwork: ️👱‍♀️👀🟥 Production: 🎚️🧈🧼 Music: 🥵🏙️🫧 Rating: 🏞️🏞️/5

The most zoomer album of the 90s.

Sounded like a standard 90s pop album, albeit with a couple of belters - not sure that I'd bother with the whole album again

Honestly remembered Waterfalls being better than it is...the rest of the album is just kind of there. This sold *how many* copies??

It really laid the blueprint for contemporary R&B, unfortunately it’s not a genre I care for. One of those that I respect but don’t enjoy. Rating: 1.9

Me aburre r&b rap 2000 byenbye

I don´t get caught by this album... pop music is just not for me. anyway i have to admit that i liked a lot the track number 7. not so much to say, i can get why some people love it. This job sounds solid, well produced, it mix some hip hop with some slow funky grooves and some jazz. being absolutely imparcial, and not going for my personal taste, i think its a 2.5 out of 5 well deserved, but i can´t put halfs here, so im more on the 2 side than a 3.

I feel the sexy cool, but lacking in crazy. Was alright for what it was. 2.5/5

Its a no from me

Not really my type of crazy sexy or cool

2nd attempt to listen. Really didnt mind it. Its of the time. And too long. But first few songs especially, and Waterfalls are pretty good. 2 seems harsh. So 2.5 it is.

Waterfalls carries it Why’s every 90s hip hop/rnb album always gotta have a sex noise skit on it?

A couple great tracks but a lot of it was just bland to me. Maybe it was fresher in its era and only seems bland in hindsight.

How many more ridiculously bloated soul albums with a bunch of no-substance, no-brain tracks is this generator going to give me?

Not for me.

Album #71: CrazySexyCool - TLC Genre (W): R&B, Hip hop soul Singles: Creep, Red Light Special, Waterfalls, Diggin’ On You I have not listened to this album before. Thoughts?: I wasn’t much of a fan of the production nor the lyrics, but I liked their vocals. That’s about it. Favorite songs: Intro-Lude, Creep, Case of the Fake People, Waterfalls, Switch

Better than average hip-pop/R&B. There is attitude in spades and of course, some classic tunes. It does suffer from bloating though (as did so many albums from this era). Great when it's great, very mid when it's not, but should it be on the list? Probably. Best Tracks: Creep; Waterfalls; If I Was Your Girlfriend

Not my cup of tea.

Wow, this is crazy dull.

Not my thing. I was in my early 20s when this came out and waterfalls is good. Other stuff is ok. Very samey

I'd never heard of TLC or Crazysexycool before. I wish I hadn't. A remarkably dull album.

More generic 90s hip hop on this list. I really like one of the girls’ voice, and she sings so infrequently that it’s like a nice treat whenever it comes up.

I know way more about TLC than I ever planned thanks to MTV and VH1. It’s not really my vibe, but I can appreciate it.

The "R&B/hip hop soul girl group" description had me recoiling when this first popped up. I actually didn't hate it anywhere near as much as I expected to, but there's little here which appeals to me or that felt like it's endured the test of time to warrant sustained inclusion. This would have sounded slick for the time, I'm sure, but stylistically it's very dated and very safe.

With the exception of the nostalgia I hold for Creep and Waterfalls, and despite not knowing that Phife was in the Intro, this album kinda sucked

Htis are great, the rest is a bit filler-y.

When CrazySexyCool came out, my daughter was 13 and really wanted the album. As responsible parents, we checked it over and didn't see a Parental Advisory label, so we let her buy the CD. Big mistake. She became completely obsessed with it, playing it nonstop. I got so tired of hearing those same tracks over and over. Personally, I still know every song from all that repetition, and for a pop/hip-hop album, it's actually not bad at all. It's just not my style, and forcing myself to listen to it again was a real struggle.

Partially known. Nostalgic and a couple of iconic songs, and the rest was ok.

This is fine

carino nothig special, bel sottofondo

Aggressively not for me Best Song: Waterfalls Rating: 4/10 Stars: 2/5

Not bad, not my thing tho.

DNF

Can't really say any positive or it's an average alblum if it includes a person taking care of business followed by a flushing toilet

I like the big songs from the album

56 minutes feels like a lot of listening just to hear Waterfalls.

I don’t usually listen to hip hop, but I actually have heard “waterfalls”. I found some of the lyrics a bit (unintentionally?) humorous. Not really my style of music.

Felt like such a bad bitch listening to this

Probably don't need much of a relisten. Solid pop album with lots of influences showing.

How in the world did they make infatuation so boring?

Much worse than I was expecting (2.5)

Throughout listening to this album, I heard the words Crazy, Sexi and Cool too many times.

Creep and Waterfall stand out, but the rest fades for me.

I really like Waterfalls, but unfortunately the rest of the album is just generic RnB Hip Hop whining.

My wife would disagree wholeheartedly with me, but a lot of '90s R&B just leaves me cold, and Jermaine Dupri's production exemplifies the reasons why. You know what you're getting the moment the track starts, because it rarely deviates, and almost every song follows a boilerplate that is exhibited in a thousand other songs. Too me it sounds very monotonous. I'm not really a fan of T-Boz's singing, either, and she handles the majority of verses on most tracks. Not that there aren't pleasures here. The cover of "If I Was Your Girlfriend" is nice and the closer "Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes" has an intensity the rest of the album is missing. The harmonies between T-Boz, Chili and Debra Killings (who handles Left Eye's singing parts) sound nice and Left Eye's (surprisingly infrequent) raps are occasionally snappy, but most of the music barely rises above a languid pace and T-Boz's sultry whisper. I know a lot of people enjoyed this album and I think that's great, nobody should get mad about the opinion of one person, but I prefer my music to be a little more energetic and adventurous, and that just isn't what this album provides.

Carried by Waterfalls imo - I'm not really a fan of the genre but I feel like the rest of the album is weak

Not bad. Not good.

Might have blagged a 3 if it also had Unpretty on it

Not for me Clive.

Wah Wah is cool, didn't enjoy this.

TLC are on the radio all the time. They played Glastonbury last year. I don't feel like I needed to listen to this album before I died. One of the filler tracks on the album, titled 'Sexy-Interlude' ends with the line "Pass me some tissue so I can wipe my ass". What you choose to do with this info is up to you...

1088 albums down, one to go. This one. Wish me luck. If everything was like the last track it would have been a nice surprise, that was a bit gritty, but most of this sounds like dudes writing songs for chicks to sing to make dudes happy.

a very appropriate name for this album, it was incredibly sexy and playful but i was sadly a bit bored, the themes of the songs were also very repetitive. i don’t think i will be coming back much but i did love kick your game

A bit torturous to get through this one. I was waiting for the song Never Ever but then I realised I got them confused with All Saints. Not my cup of tea. The only good thing about this group was the Weird Al thing.

Singles are good, rest is filler

The albums hit (waterfalls) is by far the best thing here

One decent song with a lot of boring stuff around it. 2 stars or D-.

Creep-4/10 Kick your game-5/10 Diggin on you- 4.5/10 Case of the fake people-3/10 Red light special-4/10 Waterfalls-6.5/10 Let’s do it again-4/10 If I was your girlfriend-3/10 Take our time-3/10 Switch-3/10 Sumthin wicked this way comes-3.5/10

It’s hard to believe this is one of the biggest selling for group albums. Or the biggest, even. It was fine for what it was for a while, but the tipping point was If I Was Your Girlfriend. Covering a Prince song is risky to begin with, no or least because Prince didn’t like anyone to cover his stuff. But also because, really, how do you top him? Even worse, though, was the choice of song. It makes no sense sung by a woman it is specifically from a male point of view and it is ruined by a female lead vocal. After that I was done with this album. I continued to listen, but what I would have tolerated as ok was now annoying. I was particularly increasingly annoyed by the interlude segments, which this list has taught me is incredibly common in hip hop and R&B albums. It can be a cool effect, but has been terribly overdone. Now anytime I see it on an album I cringe. Also, skipped Scrubs. I worked in a pharmacy when that song came out and it was just me and the pharmacist every other weekend. She listened to the top 40 station that played it almost hourly and if I ever hear it again my brain may begin to bleed.

I liked the rapping but there is far too little and far too much soulless saccharine R&B.

Just a bit bland and dull really.

Laugh it off and let it go and When you wake up it will seem so yesterday, so yesterday Why does this stuff sound so dated when something like The Supremes sound so very fresh? Keep in mind that The Supremes were at their prime some 25 to 30 years before CrazySexyCool came out. I think this likely sounded absolutely great in the mid 1990s the talent is there, but this is about the most unrelatable music I have heard in almost a year of taking part in this project. CrazySexyCool is a tough album to rate. I'm used to rating STRICTLY on how much I enjoyed the music, and I didn't have much fun with this one, but I can't give it a 1/5 because as dated as it is well again TLC was overflowing with talent, but this stuff is just not my cup of tea- at all. To the right listener this is a strong 5/5 but seeing how I couldn't wait for it to end I can't go higher than a 2/5. Waterfalls was the only song that I almost enjoyed and would sound great at a dance club to this very day & beyond but I'm not at a dance club, I'm not sipping on a $25 cocktail that I didn't pay for and I don't look or feel hot so sorry ladies but as Hilary Duff once said, this is so yesterday. Feel free to rate it higher (if you wanna)

I've never liked TLC. I always found their voices a bit grating and shrill. When this popped up, I thought, "I only know the singles, but I don't like them. I've never liked them. No way I appreciate them now, but maybe some secret is locked within the rest of the album. And you know what, that very secret was locked within. The rest of the songs are so big a miss, that I actually appreciated the singles when they came around. They still stink, but they stink less in perspective. So much of the instrumentation sounds like synthy kids toys, I just can't believe this many people produced this thing and people liked it, but here we are.

An absolute snoozefest like all these 90s R&B albums are. Waterfalls is worth a star, but otherwise nothing interesting here.

Thought it was going to be a chore to listen to the whole thing, that was actually ok. So a 2.

Not really as excrutiating as most of the contemporary R&B, but I've heared stuff that is much crazier, sexier and cooler than this.

Lots of filler surrounding Waterfall.

Not a whole lot of variation here. At the end of the day, teen girls need hip hop too!

Not necessarily my favourite genre but there's some stuff here that is good. Waterfalls holds up well and Red Light Special is a sexy song. A lot of it is quite similar with a number of short interlude tracks, with Take Your Time being the best of the rest.

I didn't hate this but it took an effort to get through it all. A pretty insipid collection of tunes.

It isn't bad, it just isn't interesting to me.

Just listened to this once in the morning. Not my cup of tea but it's not bad, in fact just in the middle of the road for me, not great either. But it's groovy, funky and great production, I was aware of Waterfalls and that's it. First time listening to this group. Probably 2 or barely 3 stars. Rated 2.5/5.0 on RYM.

No private session used for Spotify. HipHop Soul isn't my thing, didn't one of those girls, I don't know if it's T L or C has a nasally voice not fit for mainstream radio.

Not for me outside of the 2 hits

I disliked this more than the other hip hop albums we've gotten so far. I don't know why. My best theory is that musically, the others have at least been interesting that this was really dull to me.

This album is very boring and uninspiring. Nothing in this album is something I want to listen to. It's not bad. There are definitely redeeming factors to it. I can understand why it is popular, but this is not for me at all. It is also way too long. I usually like interlude tracks, but none of them add anything more than the last. This is just not my style of music and that's ok.

If I could give this negative stars I would

Lazyboringdull

The album isn't that bad but there are too many interludes.

It was fine, not my usual jam though.

Is this where Britney Spears found inspiration for her creaking sound? I don’t know, but one of the singers on this does it too. I find it mildly annoying. The production is quite good. The lyrics are laughable. Waterfalls has a catchy chorus that I remember from back in the day, even though I was in to some very different music. It’s a two for me. 2/5

I thought I was going to like this. I don't. Vapid pop. Wasn't this the band with Scrub? I guess not. Some of the more hip-hop infused tracks and interludes were good, I guess. Waterfalls is the highlight track, for sure. Bounced between 2 and 3, but rounding down on this one.

Waterfalls is the obvious highlight and huge hit, but the album as a whole is a real disappointment. It's an excessively long, one-note, shallowly horny album, with some of the most generic R&B beats and lame skits, even by early 90s standards.

An okay pop album that was hard to escape at the time.

Whilst I can appreciate Waterfalls - I guess due to repeated exposure and healthy slice of nostalgia the rest of the album was largely forgettable and not my jam.

One of my least favourite genres, and I only remember Waterfalls and a lot of horniness after listening to this

Smooth funky RnB with light hip hop touches and lush sultry neo soul style to the production. A couple of huge singles (but lots of filler) definitive of the radio pop sound of the mis 90s. Was never really my thing, but have come to appreciate the style and sound of this stuff more with distance - it's way better than the Swedish factory pop and bland asexual talent show diva stuff that replaced it.

I find this woman’s voice to be incredibly annoying. are we trying to sound disinterested? Most of the instrumentation is pretty uninteresting to me as well. A couple nice songs save this from the cellar.

Waterfalls is a heater and Red Light District or whatever is pretty good but the rest is very flaccid and mediocre.

Nothing wrong and strongly bad, but damn... So long winded with nothing to offer.

Fucknindont want to listen to this today but here goes.....it was fine.2.5/5 because I've been forced to listen to it too many times.

It's not too bad. It is incredibly dated, though. For one, a LOT of the slang they used had the shelf life of a banana. For another, skits. I can't think of a single record from the 90's where the skits aged anywhere close to gracefully. On the whole, it's not unpleasant, but it's unsatisfying.

Again, I don’t feel at all qualified to offer any meaningful critique. My feeling toward this album is the definition of ambivalence. It exists. I neither like it nor dislike it.

Actually enjoyed this more than I expected as I had a particular dislike of their music when growing up… It is still not something that I would listen to out of choice but I didn’t hate it. The last track was the standout, mainly due to the participation of Andre 3000, which provided a nice contrast to the rest of the album.

I want a refund. This was neither crazy, sexy, nor cool. Not a genre I think I’ll ever really like, and this just came across as bland. It might have been culturally significant (was this a particular standout moment in all female, black pop groups?) but that cultural significance is probably lost on me.

Waterfalls is catchy--until the nasally rap-then falls apart quickly. A few nice harmonies, but not enough to keep it interesting. The interludes were the best part.

Not my scene

Not a bad sound. Just not for me.

I’m gonna be straight with you: I got kind of bored. These ladies truly were a CrazySexyCool, but this album doesn’t hit the same as it used to. There are still some bangers on here such as the song Creep but much of this album just feels like a relic of the 90s. Favorite track is still Waterfalls, which is ripe with social commentary, but also for personal reasons, aka, reminds me of a girl. For R&B aficionado‘s this album is definitely a classic. For the casual listener, I think this album as a collective unit may be passable.

5/10 Not for me.

I feel bad about my ratings for female musicians. There aren't many on here, but each time they get a 2, maybe a 3. Destiny's Child, Joan Baez and now TLC. I know that men aren't 'better' at music, but this list is not helping. I did not enjoy this modern R&B album. Waterfalls was good, but the rest was very uninteresting.

i don't really care for horny R&B from any era, but at least it's not someone's creepy uncle singing it this time. all of these songs kinda sound like i've been trapped in a video game water level for an hour, so that doesn't help. waterfalls is great, at least. favorites: creep, waterfalls

not that great

Paar prima nummers maken de hoeveelheid middelmaat niet goed.

Waterfalls is obviously great, but the rest is just horndog songs and the obligatory hip hop skits that I find completely baffling.

can't wait for this album to finish

When this came out, it sounded state of the art. Now, there are a couple of standout songs - Waterfall and If I Was Your Girlfriend - but the rest has not stood the test of time at all, sounding very dated.

Cool look back, I remember TLC being huge. I think they got Wally Pipp’d by Destinys Child. Found this pretty boring though, mostly the generic production and repetition of the beats.

100x better than Destiny’s Child and B.

Ehhh, look definitely not my jam then or now, but, I can appreciate the cultural impact aspect.

Not my scene but Waterfalls is a classic tune.

11 millions can be wrong

I had Ctrl by SZA yesterday, which was released 24 years after this. They could have been released on the same day for the amount of artistic progress made between the two exceedingly similar albums. This is less obsessed with minge, which is probably a sign of the sensibilities of the times, and it has Waterfalls which is an objectively good song, so it is better than SZA. Not enough to go up a star, but it’s a high 2 as opposed to a low one.

2.3 1x catch up 11/21 -- decent enough, just not my style

Standout Songs: Creep Diggin' On You Waterfalls If I Was Your Girlfriend

This is right outside of the range where I'd know the whole album by heart. All due respect to waterfalls and creep, this was not for me

Waterfalls is great and Creep is good but the vast majority of this album was, to my ears, uninspiring and drab. I’ll probably never really be a fan of RnB but some of the more hip-hop elements are ok. Reading more about them, we’re talking about essentially a manufactured girl band who had to rename one of their members because their gimmick of ‘TLC’ being the initials of the three girls fell apart when they binned off the original ‘C’. I’d stop short of being too critical as it’s not terrible but I’d happily never listen to it again.

lowkey mid except for “waterfalls” PLUS the interludes. everything else lacked spice. unfortunately, the good songs couldn’t save the bad. 2/5.

Pretty samey the whole way through. Its listenable but the only standout here is "Waterfalls" the rest is pretty uninspired. 5/10 Favourite: Waterfalls Least Favourite: Can I Get a Witness (Interlude)

This genre is not for me. I get bored and want to skip the songs. Even when Waterfalls was on MTV all the time, I couldn’t find the love for it. But they are good at what they do

Hmm. 2-

Only got halfway through this. Really bad, hip hop type rap, trying to be pop. Pretty poor not a clue how this made the list

I'm in two minds about this album. On the one hand, I see its merits and appreciate that it's an important record. On the other, I think it's just not for me. As I listened, I could appreciate it - to an extent, maybe academically - but I kept coming back to thinking that that it felt one note. There are those who love this record, but for me I don't anticipate a follow up listen any time soon.

Blahhh not my thing but good for what it is? I guess?

Det här var ju inget kul.

Not for me, but also a cool capsule/sign of the times

Pretty standard sounding 90s rap which I really do not like. I really hate interludes in albums. Just watched The Other Guys a couple weeks ago and this reminded of that one detective who can't stop making TLC references without even knowing it. Five 2's in a row for me, this has been a rough week.

Solid start with Phife on the intro. Always in the mood for some Tribe even if he’s just a hype man here. Creep is the fourth best song named Creep that I know of. Sounds like a cat meowing all throughout Kick Your Game. Taking me out of it. Waterfalls is a classic can’t deny that. So catchy. Why do they have all these dope rappers just in the interludes? Weird. Finally Andre 3k actually rapping on a song. Not enough to push this one for me. 90s r&b just doesn’t do it for me.

Waterfalls is a song for the ages, but I did not connect with any other track on this album.

Sorry I'm not into this. There are great moments (eg. Waterfalls), but I find it mostly over-produced with decent rhythms wrecked by the over-use of drum machines.

This album allowed me to go into a rabbit hole of what happened to Lisa Lopes. Heartbreaking story. Music-wise, there's not a much to say. I didn't like this band as a kid, nothing changed as an adult. Not a pleasant session with TLC, seems like it's a product of 90s, which is very much outdated today. Some radio stations are still trying to push Waterfalls down our throats, but there is only one possible response - stop, please.

My appreciation for this band was flushed down the toilet during "sexy interlude" Two stars only because of "waterfalls"

Not for me.

Favorite Track: Waterfalls

I'm sure TLC and this album means a lot to a lot of people, but not for me. Clearly, I'm not in the demographic or target audience for this saccharine, generic pop experience and I'm not sorry I can't relate. I get it, they're influential and Beyonce and Destiny's Child might not have existed without "Crazysexycool", so for some people the world is better, but really, is it? My life has been just fine without wasting an hour of my life listening to this. No thank you.

It was alright. I did enjoy the vibes.

I mean waterfalls is good. Not really much else that I’m into.

Half the album are interludes

I was only familiar with the two TLC songs (scrubs and waterfalls) which are good songs. I couldn’t get into any of the other tracks. I’d consider this group a 2 hit wonder.

Shit like this is exactly why I hate skits & interludes. I've never gotten through an album and thought "solid but it could use more yuks." How are you going to get 90s Busta Rhymes on your album and not let him rap at all? I thought they rapped a little more, but i did enjoy the music. They get an extra star for the Andre verse that I never heard, but lose points for filler bullshit.

The big 3 are still alright songs. Maybe 14 year old me should’ve listened to this to this. It could’ve of given me a better understanding of the importance of “game”. However, those days have long past.

When this came up i had positive feelings, however i also had them when it finished. Very dated mid 90's girl rnb with very little to stand it out from the crowd.

Album 748 of 1089 TLC - Crazysexycool (1994) Rating : 2 / 5 I remember it being a pretty successful album. Waterfalls is ok but part of it is just the memory of hearing it so many times.

Just an alright listen. Felt it got a bit boring and monotonous at times. I liked the rhythm, but the vocals and production weren’t really for me. Wasn’t a fan of the interludes. ‘Waterfalls’ was definitely the standout, though it was the only track I knew before listening.

Not my sweet spot but very much enjoyed this on an early morning. Good vibes, great sentiment and an anthem of the 90s.

Question: Do people actually get the horn from, or have sex to ‘sexy music’ like this? I’ve generally been of the feeling that getting it on while someone (male or female) not involved in said act is gently singing to you to get it on all night is somewhat of a turnoff. It’s a bit like when you’re playing football as a kid and your Dad’s watching on the sideline shouting ‘’Welly it Jimbo!’ Am I in a minority here? Either way, it’s all pretty bland stuff, and it could do with getting out of sexy 2nd gear occasionally. Fair play though for the skit which is rather mocking male gansta rap shite.

Creep is good.. Waterfalls is fine.. The rest of album is really kinda boring with just some really bad production.

No thank you. Why is this middling (at best) record on this list? Waterfalls is ok.

Waterfalls is the only song I'm familar with & would listen to again.

Not a fan of this type of music so much. Not horrible but not my thing.

++: Creep, Diggin' on You, CrazySexyCool – Interlude, Waterfalls, Let's Do It Again, Can I Get a Witness – Interlude, Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes +: Red Light Special, Intermission-lude, Switch +-: Intro-lude, Kick Your Game, Case of the Fake People, If I Was Your Girlfriend, Take Our Time -: Sexy – Interlude 5,8/10

A couple of good songs but most of it sounded the same and ran together

One for the girls.

I can't say I enjoy this kind of 90's R&B, the production just sounds like I'm in an indoor pool. It's certainly not an unpleasant listen, but wasn't for me.

I like “Boom!”. I like “Bap!” I really like “Boom Bap!” But the mix on this album is awful.

Nope.could only listen to a few songs. Never could get into this type of music.

Pop or R&B, whatever combination this is considered just doesn't do anything for me. I remember liking 'waterfalls' as a kid, relistening to it didn't hit the same. Heard way more cheesy porn music sound in it, that I don't remember haha. What seemed like lots of repetition of the album title during skits or interludes and I found it a little annoying.

This was fine. I'm not really into R&B, but this felt well-produced (if a little too long). The songs are mid, but I can appreciate the cultural and musical impact the album ultimately had. I don't expect it'll be one I revisit.

Lost my attention as soon as it hits track 3. It is entirely my problem but I really don't like and am not familiar with this type of music, i guess it's some kind of hip hop...? I wish they could do more instrumental arrangements, though I suppose this is not what they do in hip hop? I really don't know. Gonna gently put a 2.5 here but I guess it's my reason for not enjoying this.

Until I listened this album, I always associated TLC with the amazing Waterfalls video. Now I associate them with a poop joke. Gross.

Crazysexycool is fairly apt. It’s definitely is sexy, exotic even. Told from the woman’s point of view, it was unique at the time. But the songs are most mediocre. Waterfalls is iconic and other than that Something Wicked This Way Comes is the highlight 5.6/10

Я был уверен, что это 1, но в целом альбом окэй-иш, просто не моя музыка. Лучшая песня - Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes.

I found it so boring and uninteresting - It just feels very generic.

not my taste

The tracks are OK with some good songs. The production and the beats are the star of the album. I will probably not listen to this one again.

1.5 Got as far as the Red Light Special track. Think I deserve some sort of medal for withstanding 20 minutes. Absolute shite. Boring music, sounds like when you played on a keyboard in school in the 90s and it had 1,028 pre-programmed background beats. They seemed to cycle through 15 of them. The lyrics absolutely woeful. Like it was made for teenage boys in an era devoid of online porn. The only redeeming point is if you tune out of everything the vocals didn't sound terrible, just bad. Congrats.

I have always said creep is their best song, miles ahead of no scrubs or waterfalls. With that said, it's an interlude, creep, three more interludes. The tracks are pretty forgettable, big closer with andre 3000, but that's it. 2/5

this made me want to chase waterfalls

One track I remembered

The type of music that is well made and performed, but I wouldn't ever purposely choose to listen to it. If it comes on the radio, I wouldn't change that channel, but not much more than that

Roughly what I expected, and definitely better than a lot of the 90s pop we’ve encountered here. Still don’t care much to listen though. That’s life.

Not my thing

The groovy RnB beats make this album. Pretty vintage 90s hip hop bbq stuff. I was surprised to hear Busta Rhymes and Andre 3000 on this album. Their timelines did not overlap in my mind. I ultimately, found the subject matter to be pretty shallow, save for waterfalls, and I could definitely have done without the skit where someone flushes a toilet.

From the limited music I'd heard I'd always thought that TLC were probably the best of this sort of poppy r and b/hip hop. Waterfalls and No Scrubs are decent and more interesting than the usual. I tried to hold on to this opinion as we went through this album, there were a couple of decent beats here and there. Well before the official death knell of Busta Rhymes showing up I was forced to admit this was rubbish. It didn't take any interesting turns and pretty much sounds like any other similar album on this list.

Not really for me

Insanely horny. Like, the perfect album for teens to do clumsy heavy outside-the-pants petting in 1996. Waterfalls is, of course, a megahit, but this brand of R&B is really not where I spend my time. It's obvious how this album was a huge hit: slick, well produced, well sung, but it has the unfortunate position of having set the tone rather than being superlative, so it's kind of forgettable in that sense if you didn't grow up to it blasting sex-vibes straight into your teenage brain. Which I didn't.

kinda mid

Modern R&B... Meh just not my thing2.5 stars

这是,rap???

It’s strange that I was thinking of TLC only minutes before being generated this album. The only track I recognised here is Waterfalls which is undoubtedly a banger. The rest of the album, however, felt ultimately rather forgettable. There is an interlude track called Sexy which will stick with me, but for all the wrong reasons. As a whole, this album was ok. One obvious banger, but then a lot of filler. Maybe it’s just not to my taste and others out there love it from front to back. Who knows?

"Sexy"-Interlude? WTF?! This kind of music holds no interest for me and I would never seek this out. I didn't hate it and it wasn't horrible but doesn't reach a 3 for me. 2.5/5

Girl power all the way, but this? Nah

One or two decent songs - Waterfall especially familiar - but overall like being on hold with a utility company... High 2 but still a 2.

didn’t really like this album much

I thought that reading their wiki was more interesting than the album

Waterfalls has got to be a top 100 song of all time right? objectively Other than that, kinda boring :/ I wanted to like more than I did. Andre 3000 though!

Saved Prior: Waterfalls Off Rip: Intro-lude, Creep, Kick Your Game, Diggin' On You Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: "I don't remember it being this horny" is an absurd and unserious thing to say about an album with MULTIPLE phone sex interludes and a song called "Red Light Special". 2.5 rounded down cus it's too long for its own good, but when it hits the spot it hits the spot (pause). Kick Your Game is up there with the most underrated songs I've gotten from this generator how in the world was this not a smash hit.

This is just not my genre of music. It felt very 90's, especially the interludes.

Not my bag

Pretty grim listening. Creatively pretty dull, the beat was the same for every song more or less. A couple of catchy tunes but mostly an expression of a movement and a culture that I play no part in.

Trash.

A strong 2, if there's such a thing.

sexy r&b.. not for me

I was sort of vibing with it then she did a shit whilst on the phone to somebody and it ruined the album for me.

This does not move the needle one bit. One of the “I can’t wait for this to be over so I don’t have to ever listen again” albums.

Har altid synes TLC har været kedelige.. waterfalls :) 2.5/5

Why was there an interlude of basically just phone sex?? Ridiculous

Dated 2000s r&b

Okay I really am not a fan of this genre haha. This was a hard listen for me. I'm not against music made for teenage girls by any means but this one didn't do it for me at all. Waterfalls is by far the best song on the album. The interludes were hilarious though.

There's some decent material on here, but (like many albums in the genre) the idea of a faux-plot with various interludes is just not cohesive enough for a good album experience. The inclusion of these interludes comes off as a bit pretentious when they could easily have been made full tracks, or even better, left off the album entirely – especially given that they sound like knock-offs of earlier tracks (and of each other). Just because interludes are a staple of 90s dance/hip-hop doesn't mean they're a good idea. Sexy-Interlude is the worst offender here, being a gross and immature non-sequitur to the previous songs. I'm also not a big fan of certain parts of the instrumentation and performance. The choice of instruments creates a texture that often combines very poorly with the vocals (especially the huskier singer) and makes the lyrics difficult to hear. This is noticeable in Case of the Fake People and Let's Do it Again, among others. Additionally, the lyrics themselves clearly cater to an audience that I'm not a part of. That's not necessarily a fault of TLC, but more so an artifact of relying on a vibe that's... well... crazy, sexy, and cool. Not really my thing. That being said, there are some positives to point out. Creep and Waterfalls (particularly the latter!) have some seriously great hooks and instrumentation, cementing their well-deserved status as 90s classics. Check out the brass and dynamic basslines in Waterfalls – now that's what I'm talking about. The production is also consistently solid and immersive, and there's some serious attitude in the singing. If I'd been a teenage girl in the 90s, I could've easily fallen head-over-heels for this. That being said, I'm lowering my rating slightly to counterbalance all the 5-star reviews. This is definitely not a 5-star album. 2/5 Key tracks: Waterfalls, Creep, Diggin' On You, Switch

Not a fan. Even when this came out. Not my genre although I appreciate TLC was a big deal.

I thought I was going to find this fun but found it very hard to get through. Not my bag. Wasn't then and isn't now. What a LONG album too. Bloated, as Tom FA would say. Other than the hits I did not like this at all.

The singles were really good of course but the rest was rubbish, just a lot of filler for some singles.

no m gustaaaaa

OK... Not hip hop, but a little to close for my preferences 2 stars

Hieman turhan imelää tämä. Jotain hyviä ysärisoundeja, mutta aika tasapaksu. 2/5

Don't go chasing waterfalls, stick to the dicks and balls you are used to.

Fell asleep except for the two hots

not my thing but who doesnt like waterfalls

Creep and Waterfalls are forever classics, but most of this album is a bit dated and corny sounding to listen to in full.

I was more excited about this album before it started than I was after it ended. I like "waterfalls" well enough, but "Creep" wasn't what I remembered. I think I was probably thinking of a salt n peppa song. Red light was stuck in my head for the most of the day, but it's really not a flattering song for me to be singing. Kind of borderline inappropriate. Nostalgia didn't save this one for me. Favorite track "Waterfalls" 2/5

Ok, but not for me. Best track is Waterfalls 2/5

I remember Waterfalls, it's kind of okay. The rest of the album is a journey of drabness. It's a weak two star effort.

This was fine. Female hip hop group. I thoughts the beats were okay. Some songs were a bit repetitive. Not really worth a relisten

The only word that really comes to mind while I listened to this: boring. Not bad, but boring.

I really wanted to like this but even for me it was too overly engineered.

Not my jam. I feel like when I was a teenager and it came out It was better? But now, as an almost 40-year-old it is not great.

For starters, too long. There is no need to fill an hour when 35 to 40 minutes would have worked better. Especially when a lot of the stuff sounds the same. And it all sounds a bit 14-year old to me. Not a fan.

a bit boring
