Reviews (page 5 of 7)

Some enjoyable stuff however I could only find maybe half of the tracks online

Hip Latin beats for you and me

Starts off with a middle eastern vibe then the Latin hip-hop rock kicks in and it's party time. Surprisingly eclectic with traditional Latin as well as the modern fusion.

Very fun album. I liked it a lot but wasn’t necessarily wowed. I’d give it between 3 and 4 stars

Like a stew that has some much stuff in it doesn't develop its own taste. This multicultural mix is certainly interesting to listen to - even fun, but ultimately, I am searching for a more distinct identity. Some bands, Ozomatli is one, are best heard live.

Totally new to me, although I did play a video game that had one of the songs in it. Fun.

Some of this was so good but some was so bad

listened to a bit of it. no really my thing, maybe if i were drunk lol. also sounds like a band the mars volta would list as an influence

Can’t find this anywhere. Placeholder 3. Bit harsh to give something a 1 when not listened to it, but won’t let me submit without a score

intriguing sounds

Ozymandias

I wanted to give this 1 star for being hard to find but unfortunately it is actually quite good

I liked it! Sort of a more modern version of Santana with a tiny bit of middle eastern/Kashmir type of stuff going on. 3 stars.

Spotify only had 2 songs from this album. I liked the Latin funk. I didn't much like the rap though.

Another example of why I love this project. I can understand why this album could seem like a total hodge-podge mess of sounds, but I really like that chaotic mix of genres. It keeps you on your toes, never bores, and is pretty catchy. From Latin American rap, to Arabic beats, the sounds of the world feel more cohesive than something like OK. N.B - Really difficult to find this album online which is a shame. Also the whole debate on separating art from artists is a hot potato, but it's nice to see a band promote positive political movements like workers' rights from their inception 20 years ago to the present day. 19/10/22

Nice mix of styles, but also a master of none. The rapping is pedestrian and boring. Started strong, but the quality fell off quite. Bit after the first 2-3 songs.

Fun, lively. I thought the album was great when it leaned heavily into the latin feel, and I wasn't as thrilled with the rapping. Felt a little cheesy. Favorite tracks: "Nadie Te Tira", "Believe"

If you your favorite song is “Livin La Vida Loca” you are gonna love this album Favorite part was the transition between Dona Isabelle and the following song

At times it gets a bit whiny but this is a respectable effort to mix Latin with a wide range of styles.

It was just ok

at-90s/early-aughts latin fusion is such a specific, yet recognizable sound

I was skeptical at first, but this was actually really fun!!

Te Estoy Buscando (para America?) Sounds very much the same. Saturday Night was a huge departure! Overall, it's a thumbs up!

It’s pretty much impossible to make a fair judgement of this album seeing that I could only listen to one song. Finding the rest proved exceedingly difficult. So while I quite liked the one track I heard (an interesting mixture of Latin, Arabic and hip-hop sounds), hopefully I’ll be able to give it a proper listen.

Immediate nostalgia when Saturday Night hit. Otherwise, a decent album, if uneventful. 3/5

Wasn't bad, but didn't do much for me either. There were parts that I liked, but overall it was a bit slow and long. 2.75/5

Pretty cool fusion of rock, latin and hip hop. Vocals aren't always my cup of tea. First track stuck out to me more than most of the rest.

I feel like this would be a hit if it was released today, primarily for the lyrics, which are absolute Twitter-level politics. At least the English tracks, which is partly why I tend to prefer the Spanish language material. When it goes full Latin, I am all in. Would like this better if it didn’t have as much nu metal tinge, I think. C+

strong 3, Pretty groovy, they were quite a refreshing sound

I liked Street Signs, it's undeniably cool and finds a really delicate but funky balance in mixing influences and genres. Perfect example of something I'd have no idea about were it not for this list, it's an easy 3/5, not truly memorable but a good fun listen.

Only one track on Spotify, and a few more songs on YouTube. I quite enjoyed what I heard tbh, and would be quite happy to listen to a whole album.  Really fun mix of genres, hiphop base with a few different latin influences. 3/5 (on the basis that I think this is what a whole album would've got).

Pretty good beats. 3.25

Some hot tracks, but middling other places.

Very fun album. Got great rhythm and lots of variety of songs.

Pretty decent, good hype album enjoy the Latin sounds - reminds me a bit of Ricky martin

The first album to defeat me in the sense that I was unable to find the complete album on any suitable service. Instead I listened to Ozomatli’s first album, which I owned, and selections from some other albums. I like Ozomatli. They mix some styles up together and whilst the whole thing isn’t going to tear up any trees, it’s perfectly decent well made music - Latin flair with hip hop beats. This hip hop head especially enjoys their collaborations with Chalib2na and De La Soul.

Interesting. 3/5

Begins quite interesting with an interesting blend of genres and the latin roots, but as the album progresses turns into a more standard latin sound. Overall not bad, but doesn’t leave a lasting impression.

What a weirdly unique album. Genres and languages mixed that you don't often hear. However in the end, the big memorable thing about this album is the uniqueness, not the quality

Better than expected

I'm kind of surprised this album came out as late as it did. It feels like some kind of Latino pop collaboration out of the 90s, with a hip hop twist. Understand me, that's not necessarily a bad thing. This album is really tight musically, with fun grooves. The songs have a great fusion of styles that feels very natural and not pasted together. Great surprise appearance from Eddie Palmieri is all the proof you need that these guys are the real deal. I'm also pleased to hear a little Spanish on 1001 Albums, which has been weirdly absent thus far. It's only the 2nd most spoken language in the world, guys. Enjoyed this quite a bit. Fave Songs: Nadie Te Tira, Te Estoy Buscando, Santiago, (Who Discovered) America?, Love & Hope

This was fun, nothing special, but fun.

A very eclectic mix of sounds ranging from Bollywood and Sitars that was mixed with rap and Salsa dancing. I think it would be worth a listen to as a full album as it's kinda fun but also a little strange. Not sure how I feel about it as a whole because of how disjointed it felt trying to find as many tracks as possible. Only 2 songs were on Spotify AU. Could not find "Te Estoy Buscando", "Doña Isabelle" and "Nadie Te Tira"; for "Santiago" only found a drum cover, not ideal but could get a feel for it. Best (from what I heard): Love and Hope Worst (from what I heard): Ya Viene El Sol

Pretty ok tbh

Some great stuff on here outside of what I normally listen to. Huge fan of "Believe."

Sprawling and interesting. It slaps, but at the same time it sounds generic and overblown, which I think is crazy. "Santiago" seems to be a good song, the best on the album, but it's freaking non-existent online.

Only the first 2 songs were on Spotify AU, had to look the rest up on YouTube. Managed to find most of it but a few were live tracks and other people covering the songs etc. This.... was p cool. Albums like this are the reason I signed up for this project - trying to hear new things, not just 6000 Beatles albums that have already been played to death. But this was fresh, a real mix of styles done well. It had all the standard parts of a big funk band but with a bit more here and there - occasional rapping, flamenco, middle eastern sounding melodies, I heard a rock guitar solo at one point, etc. I really liked the funky and experimental stuff, not so much the rap. 3/5.

Kind of a combination of Los Lobos and Gogol Bordellol.

Couldn't listen to in UK.

Cool hybrid of latin rock type music and rap. I liked "Love And Hope", "(Who Discovered) America?", and "Saturday Night". Just didn't like them well enough to overcome some of the songs I really didn't like.

Ok Latin based album

Yllätti positiivisesti kun rullasin youtubesta levyn läpi. Mukavat soundit ja vaikeasta päivästä huolimatta jäi hyvä fiilis.

This was a good listen. "Who Discovered America" was a really good track. A little Latin, a little hip hop. Reminded me of Santana.

Interesting, but... that's about it.

Could only listen to one song as that was all that was available on Spotify. But it wasn’t bad.

3/5 interesting but no

Infectious :)

I liked the collision of styles. Unfortunately Spotify didn't. It would only play the opening track for me.

First Listen. Interesting sound. Funk, jazz, Latin, rock, hip hop, world fusion all in one album. I mostly liked it. Standouts: Saturday Night 3/5

Not on Spotify so listening cobbled together from youtube and live albums. The good tracks are really good, with predictably the bass and percussion the standout elements. I can leave the 90s/early 00s staple of 'oh third verse time for a rap' element.

Not on Spotify so a bit annoying to listen to so just clicked through the tracks quickly. Probably deserves another more thorough listen at some point.

Good backyard party vibes

The tracks on this album are like a box of chocolates. I didn't like half of them.

something for everyone, nothing for everybody

The name of the band was familiar, but none of the tracks stood out as something I've heard before. It's hard to get me excited about hip-hop, but the variety of music genres was interesting and enjoyable. I liked the arabic influences in a couple of tracks, and even the ska-ish track "Déjame en Paz". "Ya Viene el Sol" was another favorite track. Overall the album was good, but there were some slow spots. This album has room to grow on me.

Quite groovy

Latino-funk-rock-hiphop fusion album? It's pretty damn neat honestly.

Liked it!

Bizarre that this is in here (knowing nothing about the band). It's like the most westernized version of Latin music that they possibly could have tossed in here. It's produced well but it doesn't do anything for me for the most part.

Interesting in theory, dull in practice. It's nice that they're trying to fuse different genres with some latin styles, but they do it in a very safe and uninteresting way. Not many memorable songs on here, the album is too long and really starts to blend together after a while.

World, Dance, 2004 -> 2-3

I've heard of Ozomatli (and some of their work), but they never really made it to my playlist. Now, listening to this one as part of the project, I see all the right names but this just doesn't click, something's missing. Can't say they're bad either, though, but would prefer Quantic or Orishas.

A bland buffet of styles that could t coalesce into anything worth my attention.

A weird mix of styles that sometimes works but mostly doesn't.

I must say this album is very uninteresting, so formulaic and, at times, even overwhelming. I thought I would enjoy it a bit, at least. But, to be honest, I've found it very boring. Merging different genres doesn't mean it's interesting or something brilliant. This album is very commercial in this sense, but not good at all. It just takes elements of latin music, Indian music, some hip-hop influences and a little bit of jazz and makes of it a mixture of very sterile music. It's not in any sense an interesting approach to those kinds of music but rather a very popish intent to take it to a radio-friendly audience. So, I can't find it neither thrilling or exciting nor interesting. It's just a bland collection of insipid songs.

Not for me

Wasn't as bad as I was expecting, fun sound. Solid 2.5.

The first song has a neat eastern feel to it. The rest of the album is well done but too much fusion for me & I simply put didn't much enjoy it. Not something I would ever play again except for the first song.

Almost a 2.5 the only Spanish language tracks were great, when it got into the hip hop realm I found it to be disingenuous and preachy

If you liked this in 2004, we definitely weren’t friends.

Saturday Night is definitely the stand out track on this album. That song could be used in games and movie trailers. The rest of the album sounds like a random Latin music station in GTA.

"love and hope" şarkısını beğendim 4/10

It was decent to start and then fell apart. A good reminder anyone can make bad music

First one not on Spotify. I knew of these guys from their kids album (There's A Moose On The Loose!). It worked better in that context. This sounds like someone calculated all the elements of popular artists in the mid 90s and tried to blend them together. It has moments, but overall doesn't really gel.

Not my favorite but can see how some people would like it. They had an odd mix of Mexican and Indian sounds which you don't hear much. Sounded old but is also much newer than anything classic (2004). One song sounded like Eminem with Sublime doing Bollywood so it was all over the place.

I appreciate the obvious talent within the group, and I liked the MC's voice and flow (kind of reminded me of Chali 2na), but ultimately I didn't care for these songs and won't listen to this again. I get why people like them, though.

They were the "house band" for Gabriel Iglesias' stand up tour in the 2010s. Need I say more?

Not particularly notable but the two Eddie Palmieri tracks near the end...great stuff. Mostly palatable which is sort of its issue, really nothing interesting to listen to hear until Palmieri shows up.

Fine album in its time - wild mixture of latin - rap - hip hop. not to hear before I die

Somehow I liked this album but none of the songs were save worthy for me which is strange. I loved the multicultural aspect of the album, that’s always way up my alley, but there was something missing for me. Also I guess I just find the main singer’s voice annoying.

This is fine I guess. The rapping is cool but I’d never listen to this again

Eh, I didn't get most of it.

Weird mix of genres. Somewhat interesting but not that impressed from a group I never heard of.

Not my thing

It's a fun album, fusion of latin jazz, rock and hip-hop. Be fun in the club or to dance too, just not my type of thing for playing at the house. It is high energy, and the music is very interesting. Nadie Te Tira is a standout track, a whole album of that would have been a 5 star review. The album has plenty of variety in the songs to remain engaged. If I was a DJ this would be a must have album, since I am not I will just add some songs to my streaming playlist

I might be harsher here purely because the album wasn’t on Spotify and it was a struggle to find each song and listen to in order. This was a fun album, but in my opinion a very basic way of combining almost stereotypical rhythms of Latin America amongst other cultures. The music is fun and perhaps I need to look into the lyrics more

I remember listening to Ozomatli years ago, saw them at a festival. Not familiar with this album, maybe just wasn’t in the mood, not as good as I remember ( or maybe this album isn’t as good as the one I have heard before)

A mix of Latin, funk, hip-hop and more; it’s all very competently played but somehow doesn’t coalesce into something particularly interesting to listen to, for me anyway. The saving grace is that it’s played with a sense of fun and an infectious energy. Would maybe make for good background music at a party.

Not ideal listening circumstances, a partial album sandwiched between YouTube ads, so it may not be the fairest view. We also seem to have hit the fusion part of the list, and this has a /lot/ going on, from rock and hip hop to salsa and Sufi music. I guess my trouble is that the fusion takes it all towards a lowest common denominator sludge, or at least the safety of middle ground. That's harsh, and it's more interesting than that, particularly given so much of this list, but equally I'm not going to come back to it.

2.3 2x youtube

This reminds me of being like 19 and meeting a cute boy who I thought looked super cool but then we hung out and his favorite band was something like this. This may or may not have happened; it certainly feels real.

Some songs felt bland. Mostly felt like a party album, lacking substance.

Ricky Martin raps!?!? Nah This sounded like it would be interesting, but actually listening proved otherwise. Without the rap bits, this just sounds like everyday mediocre Latin pop. There were some flairs and riffs sprinkled throughout that did add some enjoyment, but not enough. For Ex: the guitar in the middle of "(Who Discovered) America?" or the intro to "Who's To Blame" Too much of this sounds like it would be playing at my local Mexican restaurant. Background music. No idea why this would make the list. It's a 2

Fun album! I used to play a lot of these tracks on WYCE. The rapping on here is very “2000’s” at times. But it isn’t too bad. Instrumentally, the band is on fire from track to track

*shrug*

A collection of various Latin styles. It was nice that it wasn't all dancehall, but still not very interesting to me.

Annoying and irritating Best Song: Saturday Night Rating: 3/10 Stars: 3/5

can't listen it in spotify

Favorites: Believe, Cuando Canto Least favorites: Who's To Blame, Ya Viene el Sol Rating (out of 10): 5/10

Santana meets Black Eyed Peas meets the Beastie Boys! ¿Donde esta la after-party?

Ó hvað ég vildi að þetta hefði verið heilt albúm. Mig langaði virkilega að hlusta á þetta en heyrði bara tvö lög en þau voru góð. Þess vegna fá þau höfundarréttarskammarstig. Leiðinlegt.

Like kje latinamerikanske rytma, men ut over da va da heilt ok. Kanskje litt for P4-aktig

Til dels smertefullt pinlig, til dels ingenting.

4/10 – Weak

540/1001

I mean at least I had fun testing out my Spanish skills

LA's answer to Manu Chao, this is an ecclectic bit of world music drawing on global funk, hip hop, reggae, cumbia, salsa and other latin dance music, electronica, and rock. Scratching DJs compete with a horn section and a melodica to get a line in between rap verses. Party feel, but not an especially fun party.

This was headed to one star because I hated the English parts. The Spanish parts that didn't try to do a rap/rock hybrid was pretty good. Probably won't ever listen to this again but it's not without it's merits.

This is totally ok, it's not really memorable in any way and it's not really my style. I understand how this is super LA focused but I just don't care for it

I have never been as happy to hear an American's voice until now

not bad, but i immediately forgot what I had listened to after it was done.

not for me

Unable to listen to the full album. What I could listen to was refreshing but not truly my vibe

Nahh man this isn’t it. A bit too mid rap with very mid everything honestly.

Zzzzz. What is this even doing here? I laughed so hard at the Spanish pronunciation of the first song

There are some fun songs here but the salsa vibe of this album just sounds too dorky to me.

Interesting concept mixing so many different nationalities of music. I think it's too much happening at once, and I can't rap but I didn't think the rap parts werent articularly that well done. It was a fun album, but i didn't really care for it.

i think i would've liked it better if instead of switching tabs between youtube and spotify, i could listen to it in one place on any of those platforms. sadly, i had to miss two songs because they were not available on any of music streaming apps. the album itself was fine, it had a pleasant vibe ("saturday night" and "ya viene el sol" were my personal favourites). maybe one day i'll buy a used cd of this album so i could listen to the entirety of it, but at the moment the album was just "fine" and simply nothing too special for me, despite being quite catchy!

Impossible to find this (on Spotify at least, and only partial version on Youtube). From what I heard on Youtube, it was pretty cool. Latin rap. Some songs better than others. Fine, won't return most likely. Odd inclusion to the list, when so many of the great Latin albums were not included.

-sort of a strange album in terms of direction i think. not at all something i would listen to in my free time but i gave it a decent chance -there were some fun songs at the beginning but a lot of it felt very cringe and contrived. kinda blended together toward the end. maybe not an album quite deserving of being on here imo -Favorites: Believe, Love And Hope

Not my jam.

Just not my vibe. I think there are groups that have a similar sound that are more my vibe that I will give a listen to.

I either loved or hated the songs. It sounded like two different groups!

Was kind of like a suburban mall version of Latin funk

I'm just okay on this

Suena a verbena, a Café Tacuba a Los Fabulosos Cadillacs.

Kind of boring in a banal way. Nothing really stood out, even if it was heavier than expected. Still, I probably won't have this album in a regular rotation. 2 stars.

Was only able to listen to two songs, rest not available in my country. It's 2025, go figure. Anyhoo, the two I could hear didn't float my boat

These are all very good musicians. Unfortunately this doesn't really do much for me. I'm honestly surprised this is on the list... but 1001 albums covers a lot of genres and artists. Ozomatli is probably the best at what they do... but that doesn't make it something I need to listen to before I die. Is this even their best album?

This album had a lot of different genres mixed in together. Some of it was good, some of it was interesting, but overall I can't say any song really rose up and did it for me.

Interesting. Such a mix of things, they probably don’t even know what kind of music they play. In Amal bites it was ok, but not this much.

Latin rap, for a guy who is meh about both genres

I hoped for more. But it’s not good.

I found myself really liking certain sections of this record and I also found myself really hating certain sections of this record. Overall I don't really like it but I could see how this would be a banger of an album for a lot of people. I'm not a big fan of latin rock but I really like latin jazz and just latin music in general. The hip hop stuff came across as pretty cheesy. So I think whenever it got more rock-y or more hip hop-y I started to hate it. I think I'd give it a 2.5 but I'm leaning more towards a 2.

World music mixed with rap.not bad, but not for me. Sorry, 2 it is.

Only one song available on Spotify and it wasn't good enough to make me seek out the rest

Didn't hate it, but every song sounded the same as the rest. It almost seemed like a parody of latin music... 2.4

Its kinda cool with all the latin american influence and flair. But awfully tacky and cliche for '04 with the infusion of hip hop and nu metal aspects. Surely worth a listen before you die in lifeto round out your world influence. But this is so very 2004, it doesn't hold up 21 years later in the big '25.

Not my style of music. So I’m the wrong person to rate it’s quality.

The soul is there, the sound isn’t. Too much Ricky Martin-esque sparkle for me. 😬

not my thing but wasn't especially painful

Not for me. I love the style, some fusion bands really get me, like Melt Yourself Down, Budos Band, Estradasphere. But for some reason this one just doesn't hit. That being said, I imagine if I saw this band live, I'd be blown away, and want to know who it was. I feel like these types of intense, collaborative performances lose something when not live.

Not great, but pretty different.

This one was never on my radar. Good album, definitely a product of the time/zeitgeist. Little chaotic and a few songs I had to skip through.

Very repetitive, everything sounded the same. This sounded like an hour of commercial music. Also, minus points for the hassle it was to find this album anywhere.

This album is too all over the place. There's maybe one or two fun songs.

Not for me

Erratic and chaotic. I don't think it knows what it wants to be. Is it a party album? Is it a political album? Is it funk? is it hiphop? Is it pop? Is it rock? I don't think anybody knows. Just too all over the place for me.

it was ok!!

This album is not available to listen anywhere where I live, so……. (Yeah idk I found some tracks on YouTube, sounds interesting!) Actual rating: ★★½ (Neutral ground)

boring and performative, feels like it inspired the worst of Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Probably one I should relisten to at some point, I didn't really give it as much attention as some of these other albums. I liked "Doña Isabelle" the best from this, otherwise the songs all kind of blended into each other.

I liked the album when it first started out - Believe sounded like Latin meets Middle Eastern. By the end I was bored, and didn't really care for the Latin rap rock or whatever it was. I started skipping ahead through songs and didn't really feel like giving it another listen.

This doesn’t really work for me. Not sure how exactly to explain why. Some good songs, but the ways it’s experimental just feel chaotic and the rapping feels mostly cheesy. Also, I hate Saturday night. I don’t know why I know this song, but it makes me irrationally angry. I don’t think I ever would have liked it, but it must have been in a sports video game or something when I was in high school and listened to it a thousand times to build this degree of aversion

This tries to sound all serious and talk about "the revolution", but the music sounds like it's for babies.

There was a track with a rapper, who I’d swear was the kid from Chocolate Rain.

Only "Believe" and "Love and Hope" were available on Spotify? Mix of Latin, hip-hop, funk and reggae. "Believe" sounds like something ethnical you would hear at Eurovision, and would not receive a high score unless it is performed by Ukraine. "Love and Hope" was catchy, reminiscent of 2000s and 2010s Spanish-inspired pop hits, but nothing memorable.

Latin flavours, but bland as all hell, no spices, no sizzle, just elevator muzak style beats with weak bars over the top.

This has a pretty strong opening track. I wanted to like the album more, but it ended up feeling kind of one dimensional to me. I can see why this would be a popular album, and I liked some of the tracks but it's overproduced and largely not my style.

Some cool stuff here, but it's smothered out by an unrelenting early aughts pop veneer on a lot of tracks boy band crooning, Black Eyed Peas style conscious rap about everyone getting along. Without knowing this bad well, and only listening once, it feels like they were trying to hard for a crossover hit. Which they might have succeeded at as far as EA Sports is concerned.

2.5, the vocals aren't my vibe

*2004 - Latin rock band from Los Angelos. *Lots of Latinx horns and rhythm, then some rap/hip-hop in English sprinkled in. *Felt like I needed to be on an island with an umbrella in my drink, but also the hip hop elements felt very big city LA/NYC. Cool blend. *Wouldn't revisit but enjoyed the concept. RATING - 6/10

Nothing stands out about this album.

Some fun songs. Boring start though

odd, but not bad. some of the songs were really cool. definitely a vibe.

Somehow has a kitchen-sink approach to its very 2000s production while also being monotonous. I started off kind of liking it and cooled off as it continued. The genre-bending comes off as scattered and the songs buckle under the weight. Not to say it’s no fun at all, but not a listening experience I relished.

1 track 56 mins - weird

Not for me.

Interesting. I guess. Unfortunately also super ass. Like I kinda want to give it a 1

I had never heard of this band before—for good reason.

Not my cuppa tea

Given the connections to Jurassic 5 I really thought I was going to enjoy this album. But this just feels like a mashup of the least interesting latin music and hip hop. It's too manufactured and clean. 2.5⭐️

I think these guys got to like 900 albums and then just started adding random albums they listened to at one point in their lives. I don’t think Ozomatli is a band of much significance and they picked an album that isn’t even available on most streaming services. Anyway my only previous experience with Ozomatli is “cut chemistry suite” on the Tony Hawk soundtrack which is a great song. This album was fine. 2.5

I knew Ozomatli from Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3, by the song "Cut Chemist Suite", which is a masterpiece (mostly in the voice of 2Na Fish, possibly the most underrated rap vocalist ever). The samples are wild on the whole Street Signs, they are witty, culturally rich, it's like the producer is a big history nerd. That said, few songs actually caught me, possibly only Who's to Blame (bc of 2Na fish rapping, of course) and my Fav. track: Saturday Night

I couldn't get access to the album properly so I listened to a few of their top tracks on Tidal. A bit too unrelentingly cheery for me. I'm discovering I don't like most funk rock.

While I feel like this is a fun album I am quite sure that this does not rise to the level of an album needed to be consumed before I fuck off of this planet. There are plenty of party albums that I LOVE, but know it doesn't need to be heard by every music lover. My rating reflects its placement on this list and not by the competency of the players.

All over the musical map

Did not enjoy this.

The first song made me believe I was going to love this. But eventually it all just ran together without any standouts. Fine but not essential. 2.5/5

Blind album and artist. There were definitely some tracks that stuck out to me, but the album lacked overall. I think i liked the more hip hop funk influenced tracks, less so world and latin.

Baffling and not in a good way. The second track could just be a song by a Latin boy band. It stinks!

Not bad. Repetitive. Didn't seem to add much or build upon anything. Not for me.

The Good: We know where we are! The Bad: Seems like the street signs are all greyed out… The Ugly: Have you ever lost yourself in a neighborhood where you don’t belong?… I was not able to listen to this album, as Spotify has it greyed out in my country. I tried look for it on the Tube, but got sidetracked by other videos… Head scratcher for me… I tried listening to 2 other albums by this group that weren’t greyed out, and did not like either of them… So, based on the 2 songs I was able to listen to… 2*

This was cool for a few songs, but got boring very quickly.

Not very notable

Looks like something that Carlitos de la technobanda would dance to.

I liked a couple of songs but overall I didn’t love it. 2.5

Yeah I can see this being on the trailer for hot tub time machine. Makes no sense to be on the list. There's fusion going on here but this is so forgettable. Maybe Vin Diesel would find this cool.

I did not care for this. Just doesn't have it. It is a cohesive album and for the most part didn't cause me pain so I can give it a 2. "Ya Gotta Dip Dip Dive, So So Socialize Clean Out Your Ears Then Open Your Eyes" - Grand Maste Flash & The Furious Five

Was probably super influential to Lin Manuel Miranda

They’re better live

Sub optimal listen, had hopes up seeing “Latin funk” on wiki page but simply too commercialized

One good song, Dejame En Paz, but that one song is so good that it really saves the whole thing from being a total waste.

Latin music fusion of... something? Honestly it felt somewhat all over the place and everything sounded the same. It's almost like a worse Enrique Iglesias. 4/10

I never thought that a Latin album with hip hop elements could be so boring. Santana pulled it off better five years before this album came out. I was not impressed.

Just cannot get into it.

I feel like this album was listed for diversity, but maybe all those English Rock bands aren't so bad afterall.

Could only get one track on Spotify with rest on YouTube. Not for me.

Even the Wild West of YouTube doesn’t have much. Of the four I could find, one was ok, two were average and one was bad, so not something I’ll try seem out later.

I’d never heard of this band. All over the map on this album with Latin, rap, with maybe some reggae thrown in. In the end though just ok for me.

did not particularly enjoy this. feels like the soundtrack to a bad 2000s movie.

This album had two moods. One was "salsa covers of random songs like Matchbox 20 deep cuts that would play at salsa/bachata night" (positive) and the other was "2000s boyband doing an edgy hip-hop song" (derogatory)

Not my type tho

Not for me.

I don’t see how this is on the list

The first track wouldn't be out of place on one of the more exotic chases in a "Bourne" film, but the rest just isn't really my cup of tea? Also slightly annoying that it's not available digitally in the UK.

I wish I saw the stop sign

Unknown band to me. Some tracks were OK. I'm not a fan of rap and to much repetition with the vocalized lyrics.

Would never have listened to this on my own and will likely never listen in full length again but it was funky and a nice change up.

it's like if you made an entire album of those spanish pop songs that are played on the radio every now and then

Latin Pop. OK.

Another lesser known album from a different background, this one was more fun to listen to, but it still doesn't feel up to par for this list. Sonically the album fits into Latin funk rock, with some hip-hop mixed in. This description itself creates a fun and upbeat image in ones head, and in reality this album sounds exactly like that. There are fun Latin rhythms with different percussion elements, smooth guitar and piano melodies. The best parts of the album for me were the songs which featured hip-hop vocals, the blend worked really well in my opinion. Now for the not so good parts, the album doesn't bring anything new, it just goes through the same, well treaded, paths. The music, mix and vocals aren't well done or refined, they are just average. All in all a fun album, but nothing special.

Interesting What tracks I could listen to (Spotify didn't have many and I had to seek on You Tube) were interesting. Varied, and interesting

Just uninteresting

Not in the book, not on Spotify (not even all on YouTube!), never heard of them, never played the games they were in or seen Hot Tub Time Machine. So, totally passed me by. All sounds pretty generic Latin pop rock. With a bit of Jurassic 5 style rapping in places but not as good. Almost certainly heard some of these in a Revolucion de Cuba somewhere. How come there seems to be about ten of them in the band? The more traditional Latin ones were obviously the best, Dejame en Paz. I'll have a bit of that. Also benefit of being forced to YouTube meant I saw the lovely vid of Cuando Canto performed in isolation under COVID lockdown. The rest I will leave. I imagine they're a great watch live though.

Jurassic 2 out of 5

The music is really good! But the singing is not, and the lyrics are corny or just straight bad. The album, I would say, is fun, but I would not say it's good. It really doesn't have any business being here. Favorite Song(s): Love and Hope

Another random album from post-2000. Let your grandchildren pick these grandpa Rating: 2.2

Couldn't find all of it online. Seemed OK.

There was no full album available in Spotify, and those two songs that there were didn't inspirate me to hunt the full album from somewhere else. So my stars are based only on those two songs.

01) Believe - 7,5 02) Love and Hope - 7,0 03) Street Signs - 7,0 04) (Who Discovered) America? - 7,5 05) Who's to Blame - 6,5 06) Te Estoy Buscando - 1,0 (not available on Spotify/YouTube) 07) Saturday Night - 7,0 08) Déjame en Paz - 6,5 09) Santiago - 7,5 10) Ya Viene el Sol - 7,0 11) Doña Isabelle - 1,0 (not available on Spotify/YouTube) 12) Nadie Te Tira - 1,0 (not available on Spotify/YouTube) 13) Cuando Canto - 6,5 TOTAL: 5,62 (56/100) Current ranking: 394/467 I know it's not fair to give the lowest rating to songs I haven't even heard, but on the other hand, I'll die without ever hearing them! :-) Anyway, what I heard deserves three stars, but because I didn't hear everything, the rating is lower... There you go. Is that fair?

No shade but...why...

⭐⭐– – – 2[.1] of 5 stars. This one's kinda strange ... I can't decide if I sorta like it or not? Not what I was expecting from the album cover. It's like hip-hop/rap mixed with rock (sorta), and latin instrumentals/percussion in there too? It's okay, it starts out kind of good, but, after that it just seems to drag on and the quality wears off after the first few tracks. Not something I'd normally listen to, nor would repeat listen. Love the vocals and the GROOVAY instruments/drums on "Love and Hope" and "Te Estoy Buscando," the rap breaks on the title track, and where the album "slows down" at "Santiago," "Dona Isabelle" and "Cuando Canto," but other than that it just feels like a constant barrage of tracks that aren't really my thing. Favourites: Love and Hope, Santiago, Dona Isabelle, Cuando Canto⭐. Dislikes: America?, Déjame en Paz, Saturday Night.

Not available on UK Spotify, I listened to some of it on YouTube. I get the idea.

This is not great. Some of the Latin stuff is cool but I dislike the party hip hop stuff intermixed with it.

Not for me. South American salsa / rap / whatever - just is t of interest to me.

point5.

I hear they’re really fun live but I didn’t like this. I was expecting something better, different

Bland but listenable

This is what I always hope Latin music will sound like, and then it doesn't. This always leaves me feeling vaguely racist. So I don't know if this is actually good, but it satisfies my white guy desires for exoticism.

I like this band and bought this album when it came out. I was disappointed. Only tracks that were decent are whose to blame w/ Chali 2na And Saturday Night. They're more of a live band but they're 1998 self titled release is far better

Oh I used to listen to a lot of Ozomatli back in the day. If I remember correctly this was the album where I lost interest. So the fact that this album made the list but not their superior debut is pretty funny to me and indicative of a lot of the choices in this book. This should be interesting… After giving it another listen, yeah, this doesn't hold up. The only reason I like their first album - and I barely do - is because I heard it at the right time in my life. I would likely not enjoy it if I heard it for the first time today. And this album is definitely not nearly as good as that first one. I'm sure they put on a great show, which is still evident from this album, but as far as a listening experience goes, this is a nah from me.

Not that cool

Sounds like 2004, kinda corny

Probably won’t come back to this but kinda fun

Boooooring. Two rap albums in a row

kinda messy i enjoyed finally listening to something different though

Who is this album for? I thought it was going to be a trip hopefully electronic album based on the cover but really I can't see why this is on the list. There's better versions of all of this that's left off. Big bust.

These guys were hot shit on the jam scene back in the day. Now it’s borderline cringe?

Música del mundo, salseo, bah, varios estilos. Rollo patatero.

What Latin music sounds to gringos.

Street Signs is an album by Ozomatli, originally released in 2004. I had high hopes for this one. I had never heard of them before now but some of the reviews made it sound very interesting. Funk with Latin and hip hop influences? Sign me up. Unfortunately, my hopes were too high. Their ideas sound good in theory, and it's clear this group takes lots of inspiration from the greats like Santana. The musicianship and the grooves are definitely there... it just ends up falling flat in some places. The production is really bad. Classic victim of the Loudness War that was ever so prevalent in the era. It's also a bit overproduced. I found all of the layered string parts to be too much. The songwriting is also subpar for the most part. I found the hip-hop/rap elements to be dated and unimpressive. Although I wasn't a huge fan of this, I respect what they were trying to do. They basically took all of LA's influences and meshed them together. I even hear some influence on modern-day groups like Chicano Batman.

Decently catchy stuff. Nothing that I wanted to immediately turn off, but also nothing that made me want to put it on again.

Are the lyrics in Spanish as corny as the ones in English?

Not my vibe.

Extremely not my shit. Over-produced, early 2000s, very cheesy, genre mash-up Los Angeles jam band sounds like my worst fucking nightmare. The fellas making the music seem talented enough so I’m giving it two stars. Best part is maybe their rapper? He’s…..fine?

The one track is okay. This is basically chumbawumba pt 2

Some fun tracks. Not my normal kind of vibes.

Favourite song - Believe

I like the self-titled first album significantly more.

Pretty bland overall.

There's a lot of questionable music trends all just blended in. Take your favorite aspects of Ricky Martin, then add a touch of NuMetal, including pointless dj scratching, and then add a dash of Big Bad VooDoo Daddy inspired swing. Hope for the best.

An interesting mash of genres. The poppiness and funkiness was good, the hip hop was ok, and the raps were Hopsin tier (bad). A whirlwind of an album that didn’t end up holding my attention for the right reasons

So Ozomatli did the sound track to the videogame based on the sequel to Happy Feet? Anyway, I can understand why people would like this but this slipped right by me.

Strikes me as a flavor-of-the-month kind of album. I'm sure it sounded like the future of music when it came out but now it sounds dated and lacking in focus. There's a lot going on but that's not usually to the songs' advantage.

Couldn’t find it so no idea if it’s any good. Will be generous and give it a 2 though.

It’s either too much and messy or completely bare bones. It’s quite infuriating

It's okay, I dug a bit back in the day, but this doesn't really grab me. 2.5

Unconvinced this album should be on the list. It's not bad, but doesn't do anything special.

Not really my thing.
