Reviews (page 7 of 8)
There is a form of experimental that seems to be obtuse, annoying and different just for the sake of it and I find myself to be more and more impatient with it. You can be artsy and experimental and use uncommon time signatures and also sound good at the same time.
No
Not for me: personally have no clue how this is so critically acclaimed but it just wasn't that good. It started with some moaning, almost whingeing like singing and then got progressively worse with just random guitar notes and feedback loops (I think they were). Started to like the record when it was almost like a song off In Rainbows but at the end of the day was just bad.
Tried but couldn't get on with this one
If I wrote this, I'd break up band too. There is one cool moment toward the end of washer for about 30 seconds. The rest of this is a waster of time.
I agree with other comments that I dunno if I like this. I am not a math rock fan and this album seems to be an originator of the genre so it was good to listen to for that reason. Still didnt like it though.
You know, just because 1001 albums is a nice even/catchy number doesn't mean we should force crap albums into a list to get to that 1001 number. And first on the chopping block is this one - good god what a horror. Horrid singing and mundane instrumentals, dare I say garage band-ish. The only saving grace was that it was short. 4/10.
Post-rock. Tostonazo. Un 2.
I like the gothic scarcity of the guitar. I don’t like the spoken word
Math rock does not rock if you ask me. Too moody for me
not a single hook on the record and i know they didn’t want any but i do, sorry
Lo fi
Quite an uninteresting album
A special type of music that doesn't seem to be getting anywhere.
Slow
that one fell pretty flat for me.
Impressive for a group of teen boys. Not really my taste though.
It was pretty meh.
Was that one track or eight? Actually I don’t care.
This entire album sounded like the quiet intro to a Deftones song, but the band never kicked in.
Not for me. Kinda gives me the creeps, along with a dose of anxiety.
Weird album, didn’t enjoy the listen. Not terrible, but not my thing. More spoken word than singing and a lot of aug chords
Tylsä, mutta onneksi kovin lyhyt.
Sekava, en saanu kii
Found it interesting - particularly what the album itself consists of. Quite raw in a good way, but honestly no one I’d go back to I don’t think
I don’t get it.It just seemed to be an assault on the ears. Not as bad as locust abortion technique but at least that album had one good song.Maybe if i gave it a Relisten i would get it more but I don’t really want to.At least it’s short?
Ugh. No thank you. Like Pavement or Fugazi or even Sonic Youth or Drive Like Jehu, but worse. Barely go through one listen (even the bonus track of white noise, Utica Quarry - WTF was that?). There may be some revered songs in here by others that I didn't pay enough attention to but I am not going back for another listen. Next.
Hey what sorry was i snoozing
Couldn’t get into it
Not my cup of tea.
Listens: 1 Enjoyed: No Just not really for me. It seemed pretty tight and I can see why people may view this as a great album
Was a decent album I would say but I have a hard time remembering anything at all. 2.5/5
Rock contempóraneo un tanto psicodélico y poco sustancial con respecto a lo que aporta. No muy cómodo de escuchar.
To much mumbling
Perfectly pleasant ‘thoughtful’ 90s indie rock. Made me think of the odd occasion I still tuned into John Peel in the 90s. Nothing really jumped out from this set. Six tracks is probably a couple too many, given their length. 2.5.
This album was new to me. I don't think I've missed out on much over the past 30 odd years. The vocals were far too low in the mix. I liked the atmosphere, but found found the mumblings a distraction. I wanted more emotion. JUST SPIT IT OUT, man. He did, but not until the final track.
Meh. I can see why they didn't make it big in the 90's
Interesting and influential but I need more tunes!
Very typical indie rock. The songs are so slow sometimes it's almost boring. I don't really care much for the spoken vocals on the tracks.
The last song was 15 minutes of tv static. Yeah…
A lot of speaking on top of guitars. Some loud distortion guitars with screaming.
6 tracks!!!… The album opens with breadcrumb tail, I love the spoken world bit at the start mixed in with the rather neat guitar playing it felt like the spoken word bit would never stop but it did and the rest of the song is good. Man this band love spoken word bits! Anyway Nosferatu man is a bit of a heavy mess but it doesn’t sound bad in any way that brings it down. Don, Aman is a little creepy at the start then forms into a fast paced acoustic track cool but not a favourite song. Washer is the album’s longest song at just over 8 minutes long, it’s a fairly morbid song for this time length. And the band’s creepy sound is starting to get boring at this point; oddly enough this song kinda sounds like counting crows meets interpol ( not a mix that is preferable). The album’s penultimate track For Dinner… is such a musically mind numbing mix of sounds and it’s a fucking instrumental!!! The album closes with good morning captain, it’s literally all the sounds that the band had done before made into one song. And with those 6 tracks the band could only write one song.
forgot music was playing
I don't get it. It isn't really musical, each song is like a short story with an unrelated backing track. Feels like an album that some pretentious band would make and sneer about how you "just don't get it", although I didn't really get a pretentious vibe from them, so I'll bump it up one star.
Best Song: Nosferatu Man. Nice and noisy grunge rock. Worst Song: Don, Aman. The reliance on whispering for dramatic effect really just comes off as melodrama. Plus, the whispered bit sounds like the introduction to a song that never comes. Overall: This album is angst personified. It isn't necessarily bad, but I think you might need to be pubescent to get its full effect.
No thank you, not for me.
j'étais de bonne humeur avant de l'écouter
Kind of Minutemen meets grunge with a little Fugazi mixed in. You'd think I would like it but I found it grating and was waiting for it to be over. The instrumentation was sometimes interesting and complex but sometimes veered into repetitiveness. The vocals were really irritating and had me hovering over the skip button numerous times. Won't revisit.
Masentavaa ja hiljaista, ei jaksa syventyä
Dit album schijnt een soort underground status te hebben, maar voor mij is dit allemaal net iets te weird en onsamenhangend.
Boring. Only will listen to it when husband puts it on.
22nd March 2022 Listened while working in the front room. Chilled evening reading and watched an episode of twin peaks. Annoyingly read who the killer was. Not for me. Extreme 90s grunge but quite forgettable.
passed me by
When this started out I thought it was pretty interesting, but the longer it went on the more bored I got. Every song sounded the same, and every song just kind of droned on with a sort of slow burn that rarely came to any sort of climax. 2 stars.
Mostly instrumental rock/metal tracks with a heavy emphasis on guitar (mostly distorted, sometimes clean). Overlaid with hard-to-make-out spoken word passages which don't change the fact that this for all intents and purposes is an instumental album. Not bad, but no standouts either, and tries a little too much to sound raw and edgy. 2/5
All the songs sound the same
Proto grunge. Cant hear the lyrics.
Oh, cheer up lads.
It deserves to be on this list as it’s a pretty unique sound, even now. The spidery guitars and unnerving vocals make it all very tense and atmospheric. But do the spoken vocals really need to be so quiet?? It takes physical effort to hear what’s being said, which is annoying. 2.5 stars.
Never heard of this band or this album before this posting so a brand new experience! Not a lover of Math Rock, but I quite like Breadcrumb Trail, reminiscent of Dark Side era Pink Floyd in some places. I can see the influence this band had on others, sad to say it isn't something that appeals to me greatly. I find it at times monotonous and repetitive but I suppose that is the point. Tch You Millennials what are you like! I would link this to bands like Fugazi and GSYBE. As I say not something that I would personally add to my collection, but I do see merit in the Album.
eh, 2.5.
Everything I said about Jah Wobble applies to this album, too, but even more, I think. Anyone could write this. It's not horrible, it's just nothing. There's no talent behind this that I can see. Practically random music. Choose a key, write some chords on pieces of paper then pick them out of a bowl. Get a competent guitarist to play them repeatedly in a variety of ways in the order they came out. Speak earnest sounding nonsense over it. There's your top 1001 album.
This album was hard to understand and it felt like it was the far end of the grunge alt spectrum. The instrumentals were good at times and sounded familiar to other alt bands but the lyrics were tough to digest. 3.5/10
Weird, just a guy talking and then some good music overall didn't dig it
Garagey, grungy, emo rock. It was fine. Very forgettable.
Kind of droney and samey the whole way through
1,8 Stem te veel op de achtergrond, te lange nummers, en te repetitieve instrumenten. Zeker niet must listen aka niet goeeed
I'm not sure I know about the whole spacial sound thing that they are good at. Didn't really resonate with me.
Not a hit.
😪
Background music at best. Otherwise not good
Proto post-hardcore music with a touch of darkness. It is easy to see the future groups it would influence, but as a watershed album, it doesn't offer much.
Some interesting arrangements but felt rather slow to me.
Look, it may have been influential but fuck your 8 minute experimental noise rock.
Started off like Arab Strap, but boring. Then some shouty bits, but still boring. Will give 2/5 because it isn't as appalling as the albums I've given 1.
Very pretentious, some decent guitar
2/5 didnt really like them
Ik word er niet warm van.
It was ok, didn't really get anything from this album, wasn't horrible to listen to though just forgettable.
This was largely okay. Nothing standout. Nothing great, nothing bad. Not quite sure it is on this list. Just didn't click with me. Singers voice was okay. Musicianship was okay. Songs, yeah, okay.
Some nice jams but yeah not for me
No hi he entrat. Hi ha moments interessants, bons jocs de guitarra, girs estructurals... però no he connectat amb la proposta. Tot i així en el futur li donaré una altra oportunitat.
Liked the harder elements of the album, the soft whisper bits would go on a bit too long.
6 Lieder - Laufzeit 40 min - 2
i remember playing this on my radio show back in about 1993 or so. it was a request. i didn't care for it then, and i don't care for it now. like, go take some vitamin c or something, guys. fuck's sake.
Props for finding a song and sticking to it, but unfortunately I got sick of it pretty fast and just wanted it to end about 20 minutes before it did. Makes me think of Pavement, I wonder if they were influencing each other.
Didn’t finish it. There’s probably a reason for that
Eh
Never seemed to find a consistent groove
I had never heard of Slint. Some parts were intresting. But don't think I will ever pay this album again.
Not the biggest fan of the style. I’m sure it’s not bad for those who like this kind of music
Ankeaa, tylsää ja huonoa musiikkia. Liekö sitten jonkinlainen oman genrensä edelläkävijä? Tosin 1991 taisi jo eräs Nirvanakin olla lähes uransa huipulla.
Nah, didn't get much from this.
1.5
a narrated rock album. Almost like the doors with a modern sound. This was divergent from Slint's punk rock origins.
vette album cover klonk zoals nirvana wel leuk niet fantastisch
lite väl knepigt
Post-rock and post-hardcore built from angular guitars, sparse rhythms, whispered vocals, and explosive dynamic shifts feels like walking through an abandoned house where every creaking floorboard convinces you something is about to happen—only for the silence itself to become the main event. Tense, distinctive, and undeniably atmospheric without keeping my attention for long.
I literally can’t remember anything memorable about this album and I just listened to it.
1.5
I believe Slint disappeared up their own arses at some point back in 2014, ah well nevermind.....
Wah ça s'auto suce ici
that's a no
"lets play bad on purpose!" - The Album. Really WHY is this an entry?
Hey list what the fuck is this?
30 seconds in the first track, this album sucks.
There was a time from the late 80's until when grunge became huge where the college alternative stations played bands that all sounded and felt like this. Songs that were kinda spoken, like poetry, set to music that almost fit the lyrics. Just like this album. It made for interesting listening. So I found this album boring and annoying. It's not bad per se, it's a victim of it's time period and the guy was going though some shit. I'm supposed to like it more as the band was popular south of us. I don't get it.
Garage band high school art project. I hear it was influential. As a stand alone work just not very listenable.
It’s a good thing I don’t have any heroin on hand, otherwise I’d have started using around the third song.
Himmel, was ist das für ein beschissenes Album. Weg damit
Its really really bad
It was angsty and artsy. It was post-rock before post-rock. It's not my cup of tea.
A "getting harassed by the college radio at 10AM on a Saturday" type album.
normally i don't give a review if i don't listen to the whole album so i can go back to it later. this is a rare case where i couldn't listen to the whole thing and i do not want to come back to it
Mumbling some story over shrieking, abrasive guitars is a terrible musical recipe
Thoroughly unenjoyable.
Ein neues Wort für Langeweile: Slint
Verdaderamente muy malo, no se si al nivel de killing joke, pero ya que este siendo comparado con eso habla claramente de lo malo que es. 1/10
Jeez I really couldn’t be doing with this
I was not a fan of this album at all. There was really nothing pulling me in, and nothing at all keeping me interested. With the songs being this long, I would have hoped for a lot more, anything really. I wasn't a fan of the spoken-word intros, and I didn't enjoy the vocals when they started singing. It is hard for me to find anything interesting within any of these tracks, and I don't think I will be listening to any songs from this album again. I have no favourite tracks as I didn't enjoy any of them.
Oh look, there’s only six songs. They’re HOW long?!
"Sounds like doodoo" would be too much of a compliment. Thank god it's so short.
malardo
Dark and moody. Can see this very fitting for certain thriller or horror movies. But listening to as an album? Not sold. Much too dissonant and rough for my taste. Spoken word throughout the record also became too much for me. In addition, almost all songs sounded the same to me. Can see how this might appeal to some people, but not my cup of tea at all.
it's good, but not enough to hold anyone's attention. some moments of brilliant execution, like in track 2, buried in the middle of an ocean of boredom. felt a bit too bland to be considered more than nice background music. i still hold the idea: if you're gonna do an 8 minute track, you better bring the full banquet to the table. no emotional honesty that grabs you and definitely no lyrics that are brilliant. what saves it are the small moments where the guitar shines with the drums, but that's not enough to drag this out of the "meh" pile.
I wanted to like this one :’(
No
Nice
Too emo for me.
Meh
Strange music.
Falls into a genre I typically like but didn’t move me at all
Not really sure what this was intended to be but it's mostly low energy, repetitive and discordant. No appeal for me at all.
Not good
I was thankful the album only contained 6 tracks, it made skipping through tracks 2 and 6 to listen to brief snippets much easier after drawing the conclusion it was utter shite from track 1.
I could have died without listening to this and been just fine.
Stop yapping through the mediocre background music.
Ufatteligt kedeligt og intetsigende
Yah, not for me
1. trail - 1 2. man - 1 3. don - 1.5 4. uuazher -1.5 5. dinner - 1.5 6. captain - 1
Just because you have instruments doesn’t mean you have to “play” them
Utterly depressing garbage.
Nadda
Hey guys. The early 90’s called, they want their mood back.
Discordant. Not for me
Wish I could put a zero
Really didn't like this one, too weird sounding.
Fifteen seconds into the first track and I can already tell this is a not for me album
woof. the stereotype early 90s dark and gloomy indy record.
I found this album depressing. They should’ve called their band shit instead of sling.
Not my jam
While I usually like art rock and things like that, this just goes into the background without much interest.
Art school jank. Wouldn’t go near it again
No
I didn’t get it and won’t be listening again
Confused, wandering, binned
No
Utter garbage, finished by 12 mins of garbage
They’re not bringing anything new or exciting to the party. I’m sure it’s all very clever and deep, which is why is over my head.
Its literally just noise.
1. Breadcrumb Trail - 1 The equivalent of noise rock. There's a ton of nonsensical talking in the track before guitars screech over the instrumentals and a waning whiny voice sings the lines. Awful piece of music. 2. Nosferatu Man - 2 The riffs through the central part of the track are enjoyable but nothing lyrically or vocally about this song is anything close to enjoyable. The screeching is still there but it's not as bad as it is on Breadcrumb Trail. 3. Don, Aman - 0 It takes four and a half minutes for the actual music to kick in. By then you're completely asleep with whatever the opening four and a half minutes are and then the music only lasts about thirty seconds. Track is a complete nothing burger. 4. Washer - 4 Vocally horrendous and lyrically dull the only enjoyable part of the track is the awesome soft guitar play between the verses. This lasts for six and a half minutes, constantly cutting out for the lyrics and leaving you wanting more of it. Finally you get a pretty good burst of guitar sound but that only lasts thirty to forty seconds in an over eight and a half minute track. 5. For Dinner... - 0 It's way too slow for a fully instrumental track. Yes it builds into a crescendo but it's not gradual it's more just four minutes of nothingness until the finish. Sometimes the track is so low you'll forget it's even on and playing. 6. Good Morning, Captain - 3 Just a completely uninspiring song outside of the louder moments of guitars which are short bursts of excellent sound. The track goes on for too long without those moments to really be considered very enjoyable. Average Rating: 1.67 Adjusted to 5-Point Scale: 0.83 Rounded Up: 1 Star
This is mostly bad shoegaze on steroids. A lot of it sounds like feedback, and the vocals are buried in the mix; which might be a good thing because when you can hear them, they’re awful. Still, I was going to give it two stars until the last “song”: 15 minutes of noise, presumably approximating a night in a quarry. This is not “daring” or “edgy” or groundbreaking in any way - it’s just stupid. Where are the record company execs putting their foot down when you need them?
trash 1/5
мне все-таки нравится, когда певцы поют, а не просто орут или бубнят, и когда музыка ну хоть чуть-чуть музыкальная.. это треш
oh capa feia.... e músicas chatérrimas, todas são iguais credo
I could have gone my life without hearing whatever this was. I'm convinced anyone giving this a 5 is just being pretentious at this point because it inspired music that came after it. This is not good music.
I have made it through 429 albums, including 4 of the 5 worst rated, without skipping a track. This is the closest I’ve been to breaking. Rambly nonsense lyrics mumbled over a dude apparently tuning up his guitar for the entire duration of the album. No skill is displayed, and nothing interesting occurs for 39 pointless minutes before the album ends.
Not for me
No
Terrible
I think I enjoy bands probably influenced by this much more than the album itself. Love the proto-emo guitars, hate the spoken word verses.
Non so che dire... Per me zero
No idea what I just listened to. I am clearly not the target audience for whatever this is.
Meh
Ne znam šta bih rekla na ovo, naporno, nezanimljivo. 1/5, 1/10
Sad dudes mumbling over weak riffs and a man narrating a grocery list recorded in a walk-in freezer. Critics call it a classic, I call it nap fuel.
Mumbly and pretentious. 1.5/5
didn’t like
p670. 1991. 1 star. Early 90s Nirvana wannabees without talent or songs. Every song is 5+ minutes long. The "vocalist" doesn't sing, he talks or mutters or screeches. This didn't sell at the time, and you can hear why. WTF thought this was essential listening?
When the bio starts with "Though largely overlooked during their brief lifespan..." take that for a coded way of saying no one really wanted to listen to this band when they were making music. Certainly sums up my experience.
Nah.
Pretty boring. A great deal of repetition of songs. Same formula. Soft section with mumbling, followed by distorted 8 bars back to mumble and soft passages.
This sounds like a late-night garage jam session gone wrong, with some guy mumbling through muffled screams. I’ll pass on this one!
Rating (1-5): ✩ Higlighted songs: Ehmmmm what the actual fuck After summoning Satan listenin- to these tracks, I had to call Huntrix to hunt down the demons that were crawling out of my hears. After that I decided to listen to it again and now I'm cursed. The stories are interesting in song form, but it's so boring as an album -_-
Slint: Spiderland: This is so fucking boring oh my god. Spoken word over really whatever riffs that repeat over and over and over. I hate this. Contender for the most boring thing I've listened to, 39 minutes felt like hours. 1/10
I don't like this style of music. Can't hear a word the guy is speaking, not sure if that's intentional or bad early 90s mixing. The mixing is just bad. The volume differences between songs is crazy. Almost went dead when it got to Look a Ghost.
Lo escuché cuando me recomendaron este rollo de los 1001 discos. No entendí nada.
Dreary
How in the world did this even make it on this list? It's barely music, more like spoken word poetry. And bad poetry at that.
I could have recorded this with my 3 guitar chords I can play and reading some words.
BM Bella Merda
I usually enjoy this genre of music but.... this was something else. Boring and slow. Their first album is much better if you wanna give these guys a second try
Meu deus q desgosto
I feel like I wanna die after listening to this scuffed music
Det här var faktiskt ganska dåligt.
bro ts ahh
Not my favorite I'm sorry...
nope
Not for me
Imagine the Velvet Underground's schtick of 'we sold a thousand records but everyone who bought one started a band' without any actual songs. Not buying its slacker cool in any way. Just tiresome.
This was noise layered on noise, I did not enjoy it
Like 2 girls 1 cup for your ears
Not sure why anyone thinks that what I just listened was something I need to hear before I die. It was 30 minutes of pretty annoying minimalist emo bullshit. This felt like a band that would play in the background of an edgy teen coffee house in a small east coast venue. Fifteen minutes in minutes in any actual customers would wonder why this coffee house allowed some angsty teenagers to plug in instruments so they would finish up their cups and disperse. Never heard of Slint and I wish that were still the case. I would actually like my 40 minutes back on this one. 0.51 stars
Tentando entender onde essa banda queria chegar.
This shit sucks. They remind me of one of those pretentious local groups that always gets angry when they lose their small town battle of the bands and then get mad because nobody listens to “good music” around here 😒
Oof this might be my least favourite vocally that I’ve heard so far. I didn’t mind the spoken word stuff but the singing parts are not my cup of tea.
Listening to the first song I thought “Damn I hope it gets better than this” -it didn’t. I’m not even sure how this would be categorized as to genre. But if there is a category called “Sucks” this definitely belongs.
There is absolutely no reason his album is on the list. 1.5
kann ich nix mit anfangen
Why is this on the list?
Not my scene.
That went from interesting to boring to torture in 3 songs.
Total waste of my time
Wow. Never again
Well this was a bit of a challenge. The vocals were difficult to enjoy, engage with or understand. If this had been instrumental it may have managed a 3. I think I'm going for a 1.
I couldn't even get through two songs
Yeah, I'll pass on listening to this ever again.
I hear the influences on modern music but I also didn't enjoy listening to this.
Painful, quite frankly
Bit of harsher American underground rock music for once. Still not good on my ears
What an indulgent unmelodic and nearly unlistenable mess.
nope
Pre-listening thoughts: poetry and yelling???? Screw this bro Post/during listening thoughts: some artistic visions shouldn’t be brought to life. I felt like I was on some bad trip this entire album. Like nauseous and everything. The ASMR bits make me feel like I’m about to get assaulted. Jesus Christ this was so terrible. Thank god this was their last album. 0.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: is there any way I can warn people they need to NOT hear this before they die? Fav tracks: ????? Least fav tracks: yes
Seems like you either love it or you don't. I'm in the latter category - what a load of boring, dreary, plain nonsense. Every song is the same tempo, and contains mostly the same riffs/progression. Quite enjoyed the screaming at the end of the final song - perhaps frustration at the song being over 7 minutes long? I'm not really sure what this is either - math rock, but I didn't really hear it. Approaching shoegaze - a genre I do not like at all. Not for me at all this. Potentially the worst album we've had for a while.
Sounds like some local kids set up a make-shift recording studio in their basement and after getting drunk recorded this album. I don’t get it. I don’t like it.
Not good, cool cover tho
Through this 1001 Album regime, perhaps I am discovering that I am not much of a music aficionado. Once again I find myself listening to an unimaginative, uninspiring album. Thankfully, these Lou Reed wannabes ended their musical sojourn after this album.
Too much screaming in a few songs and hard to understand what is said in the lyrics.
boooriiiing
Spiderland! Spiderland! Does whatever a Spider cand. Is it good? Not a bit. It's just tedious mumble shit. Look out! Here comes the Spiderland.
Ever been to a concert and had a dude next to you that wouldn’t shut up? He just kept talking about mundane random shit the entire time the band was playing? That experience is this album. Some dude spouting pointless stories over a band for 40 minutes.
Really didn't like it, especially not the horrible ASMR at the end
What is this doing on the list
Sounds like being trapped in a hot car
That was crap.
This album is boring and obnoxious. These guys have some good moments and interesting musical ideas that build but ultimately fizzle into nothing. Would like to hear them use their novel rhythmic ideas to create something with more impact, but instead they seem to just revel in their depression and mumble about their sense of listlessness. I'm all for sad music but your band can't be both sad AND boring otherwise what are we doing here but comparing notes on our bullshit lives?
Dreadful
Ugh, it was really hard to get through this. I truly hated it.
Awful
I can’t believe this is considered as influential as it is. It’s not good. There’s no soul. It’s just disaffected dudes doing their best “we’re cool because we’re in a band” schtick but they lack the charisma or talent needed to really sell this. It sucks.
I remember the 90s fondly. I don't remember the 90s being this BORRRRING
Shocking that the band was already done before this album dropped.
2/10 - this album just made me so uncomfortable the whole time. Parts of it were boring but most of it was just so strange and off putting. It is also uncomfortable in a different way than the Eminem albums were. I never plan on listening to any of these songs ever again
I mean, I can see the influence and have been known to like groups in this genre but this was utterly tedious
Left this on the background and after 20 minutes or so I realized there was still music playing. Completely unengaging experience, musically speaking.
Not a fan. It felt boring most of the time. I could tell where sometimes their sound felt like it might have been an influence for future musicians, but overall didn’t enjoy listening.
I'm a fan of ambient music, and I know well enough that a good amount of music requires a lot of listening for it to really click. But it seems like no matter how many times I've heard this record, nothing sticks.
Slint’s Spiderland is low-key trash. It feels like a cheap imitation of a movie, except there is no visuals, just some ass music. No part of this album was remotely good. It got boring the first song in, as. Every track is 5+ minutes, and extremely repetitive. All in all, Spiderland is a horrible album. Best Song: Nosferatu Man Worst Song: Washer
To me, this was boring. I'm starting to wonder who made this list?!
Awful. Lethally boring.
One night in 2016 shortly after a bad breakup, I got really drunk, taught myself a couple chords on my guitar, and recorded what I called “automusic,” where I just made up the lyrics as I strummed over a couple notes. I didn’t care about tone, or wrong notes, or the song composition. Just raw emotion on the tracks. That is what this album sounds like, but this was professionally recorded.
Not sure what they were trying, but it didn't work out.
Don’t like this
I’m sorry but I really didn’t ask for white noise. This felt like their first studio session and they’re doing checks on instruments. This did not appeal to me at all. I believe I don’t have amazing authority over what should be considered great music and not, but I just don’t see how this is. I’m not sure how it was revolutionary or influential and I don’t think it was even good.
Absolute piss
Deeply boring spoken word indie rock.
I don't get it. heavy rock and whispering. Huh
Wow. That was a truly unpleasant listen. Atonal spoken/screaming word, nothing interesting musically. This is supposed to be an "influential" album -- like the old saying about White Light/White Heat spawning countless bands even without commercial success. This spawns feelings of contemplating suicide, wishing for it to be over. At least King Missile has a sense of humor. Unexpected bangers: none.
No no no. Whiny screaming emo guys no thanks
Well, that was underwhelming, boring, meandering, and pretty lame, overall. I'd never heard of Slint before, and now I see why.
Hideous. Nonsensical lyrics. No singing, just grunting, screaming and nastiness. Don't know how they were able to get this album produced.
Meh 2 No 1
Naw
Not for me, what a depressing way to start my day. "Washer" reminds me of the first Twilight movie - I'm not sure if it's a similar song on the soundtrack or the actual film score, but listen to 2:55 - 3:20. Can't you just picture Bella walking into the woods? I'm starting to think it might actually have been sampled... it's so similar. I looked it up, couldn't find any connection :(
Might come to regret this in the future but it was hard listening… the 1st time
Listened to it in Madison, over two days. Very weird kinda unsettling album
Barely listenable
Dios santo bendito, lo que me ha costado terminar esto. No me ha gustado nada de nada.
What is this garbs. A thousand and one bands in their garage sounded like this or better in the early 90s. Why is this here?
Trash.
Depressing. Atypical. Long chord progressions that provide the backdrop for Slint's storytelling. They go back and forth from slowly talking to singing. It's borderline creepy.
Terrible
Notes written on partial listen. I’m not sure I quite understand the approach of what the band was trying to achieve with this. The instrumentation quickly becomes quite monotonous. I wanted to say it is repetitive, but things change very very slightly throughout. Though if you were only half-listening it would all sound the same. Some of it isn’t all that bad, but every part of each song so far (I’m on 4 out of 6) is repeated too many times. The vocals, though, I truly don’t understand at all what is happening. As mentioned, I’m at song 4, and every song up to this point has just been a guy talking? Like not trying to sing at all, just talking like he’s telling a story. Track 4 is the first attempt I’ve heard at actual singing, if you can call it that. On top of all of that, there’s an excessive amount of sounds of fingers sliding up and down fretboards on guitar and bass tracks. There’s points where you can hear huge volume changes when an effects pedal is engaged/disengaged. There’s something to be said for the fact that much modern music is compressed to all hell and has almost 0 dynamic range. But holy shit, someone get this band some compressors. Things drop out and it’s so quiet I can’t hear it and turn it up and then suddenly the distorted guitars come back and it’s deafeningly loud. There’s such a thing as too much dynamic range. And if that’s what this band/producer/mixer was going for, they sure nailed it. On top of all of that, the songs are quite depressingly slow. This one is a big thumbs down for me. Into track 5/6 now. I’m feeling rather depressed now. I almost listened to this earlier in the day and I’m glad I didn’t because I had shit to do and listening to this would have made me less motivated to do any of it.
Was not a fan, I can see why people would like it just not for me.
I like the vibe, but there wasn't a whole lot of memorable content in there. I'll probably miss a question on Jeopardy about Slint even though I listened to this album.
Rock poetry and not in a good way. It didn't speak to me on any level and just sounded like an experiment rather than a finished album. Roll on tomorrow's offering...
Absolutely awful
knives in ears, slowly.
Got through two songs . It’s a nope from me
Definitely not for me either
Album 120 of 1001 Slint - Spiderland Rating : 1 / 5 From the album summary : "Spiderland is the second and final studio album by the American rock band Slint.". The key word in that quote is 'final'. That doesn't surprise me, at all. This simply sucked. I apologize to the ether for exposing it to this, again.
ASMR Post Punk sounds like a cool YouTube channel, but it makes for a pretty unlistenable album. The sad part is, the instrumentation is fantastic at times and the atypical time signatures/feels can be very welcome. But I am going to hear the vocals in every nightmare I have for the rest of my life.
Onko väkinäinen yritys muuttaa rakenteita mitään muuta kuin skeptisyyttää sen suhteen, että rakenteet voisivat muuttua?
This is not good. I don't know what they are trying to accomplish but the music is all over the place and the lyrics or just speaking parts are garbage. It was just there. It is probably better than a one but it is not a two.
rubbish self indulgent
That….was not pleasant to listen to.
Ugh
Spiderland is crap, it has loads of odd high-pitched guitar breaks that annoy the fuck out of me, the rest is a grungey mess punctuated by bad vocals. 1.
Another band that disappeared without trace - for good reason. Mediocre music with no content of any interest and vocals that are below standard for your average garage band made up of high schoolers.
Didn’t really catch my attention.
There were i in o redeeming qualities
Not it
So, as Jane was saying... "The music is so bland that it drowns out the monotony of itself. In addition, how pretentious of a band to think anyone would want to listen to something so dull". (0.5/5) Kind of reminded Shannah of Smashing Pumpkins. Enjoyed aspects though probably wouldn't listen to again. (1/5) Self-indulgent and boysy. (1.5/5) Conor thought it was ok... (2.25/5) (1.05/5)
No
Oef. Ik kende dit tot nu toe alleen van een T-shirt van Arjan (zwart met een wit spinnetje erop), maar ik vond het echt zwaar deprimerend.
Nope
