Reviews (page 12 of 13)
No.
Not really inspired to make a comment either way. It was fine.
2 out 5 because really long intro not that many lyircs like the beat dont recomend it at all really boring. its not hiting like if you were vibing with it.
I kinda like this album, it's not the best but not the worst. I think you should listen to the song "A Forest" it's my favorite song on the album. Mainly because I like the background. I can't really understand what they say, but I can make it out. If you listen to this on YouTube, there's no CC, so it's hard to hear what they say. I recommend you pull up the lyrics on Google if you want to know what they say. I do recommend that you listen to this album, but their voices sound whiney.
This album could be better. I do like the beat and rhythm, and I also kind of like the genre. I dislike the fact there aren't many lyrics, (mainly just beat) and the lyrics are hard to understand.
Pretty boring. Actually starts getting somewhat interesting by the end
It's crazy how this album is only 17 seconds long. Jokes aside, it is a really short album, and I feel like I barely listened to anything that really lets me know how to feel about it. It's just kind of bland Indie Rock that doesn't leave me with any strong impressions. I probably could have lived my life without needing to listen to this. Favorite Song(s): A Forest
Wel oke voor een pebaalde mood, maar het was me nu allemaal net wat te meh. Productie niet echt pakkend. Misschien later weer proberen
In my opinion one of the not so good album by The Cure!
I expected more
Not their best. Disintegration was much better.
While I am a fan of The Cure, I am not sure why this album is on this list.
This is fine, but it's quite dull. It really sounds like one super-long song, in part due to overuse of the drum machine, in part due to their tendency to hang on a four-chord sequence for a hell of a long time, and in part due to the consistency in their timbre. They just don't have a lot of variability, and to me it really sounds like they're not having any fun. I'm not looking for wild improvisation here (although that's cool too), but like they don't even stray off the beat at all, it's super-square. Here's a simple test: play the first fifteen seconds of any song on this CD and see if you can tell which one is which. I thought hard about giving this a one. At the end of the day though, it's so light and inoffensive that it doesn't really merit it. But make no mistake, this CD sucks.
This album had all the excitement of attending a goth kids TED talk. It just droned on an on. I kinda liked the sound of it but they never changed it up or tried to do any variations on their core concepts. Pretty disappointing.
To funky.
Thin proto-goth.
There is a reason I’m not a cure fan.
Mopey.
kind of boring actually.
Be careful what I say, I guess. (See previous review: Depeche Mode’s “Violator”) I don’t know what I expected. I guess I thought I’d be getting a lot of stuff like “Friday I’m in Love,” stuff on the poppier side of rock. But no. I got this dark, tormented-poet, moody new wave album. I would’ve preferred the poppier stuff. I’ve never really dug the whole “look at how emotionally tormented I am” kind of sound and vibe. Like, sorry you’re going through that but it makes your music boring as hell to listen to. The first indicator of what I was in for came right away - the first track. Who the hell opens an album with that? Seriously? You can’t go anywhere from there and have it make sense or gel. From there it was moody track after moody track. If you’d added ambient rain sounds underneath each track it would’ve fit the vibe perfectly. Sometimes it is, sometimes it ties the whole sound together. Not here, not now. Very curious to see how many Cure albums are here. I assume at least one more. Hopefully they found some light in their lives. Two stars. Standout Tracks: A Forest, M
Snooze fest over here
There is already the "The Cure"-sound but nothing remarkable. 🥱 2,5
é triste que só o diabo né, melancólico como o cão gostei de play for today, literalmente a mais felizinha sei lá não gostei não, muito triste the cure é bom né, mas esse tá triste, não gosto de ficar triste
Not much memorable here.
Vocals are too low, makes it like an instrumental album. But the instruments are good at least. Just wish I could hear the lyrics.
Solid length. I found it kind of boring though.
...and yet, I still feel sick...🥴...2
Meh
extremely disappointed
Didn’t like this when it came out and don’t like it any better now. Too much whining.
I think I like The Cure but I am only familiar with the hits and not familiar with their early work at all. This might be the one New Wave band I like. This is like a less intense version of The Cure I'm familiar with. Robert Smith is going to Robert Smith though. This is not the kind of music I expected or am used to from The Cure. They definitely took a hard turn towards the mainstream later or at least put their more crowd friendly songs out as singles. A forest could have been repurposed as a James Bond song, work in the fanfare somewhere and you can replace one of those Timothy Dalton Bond songs, no one would miss A-ha or Gladys Knight. The band that spawned 1,000 goth looks. I bet the Venn diagram of people who own The Cure t-shirts perfectly overlaps with people who own Morrissey t-shirts.
I like the Cure but this was a boring album
Unfortunately, this is the least memorable Cure album I've ever heard.
I have no problem with slow burn albums that build tension gradually. As long as there is a payoff. This album felt like 35 minutes of build-up, and decent at times, but with no climax. I gave it three goes and none of it grabbed my attention at all. Fine for the background but not enough... happened?
There's Disintegration, and there's the rest of The Cure's catalogue.
Still blah.
Some people really enjoy early Cure. I prefer The Head in the Door, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, and Disintegration.
Was the cure but seemed boring
I do like the Cure but this album wasn’t for me. Some songs were good, but overall, I think it was maybe the mixing that made it meh for me. Maybe it’s because I listened to it very hungover on two hour car ride out to the province
Moody, brooding, and boring.
Apart from The Forest which is elite pretty poor album
There’s some interesting stuff on here for sure, but the majority of this album comes off a bit empty.
not there best work
Idk I just don't really get new wave or post punk which I see this is labelled as. There are at least a couple tracks that do grab my attention which makes me wonder if I will like their later stuff a little more. The Forest, Seventeen Seconds, and Three intrigued me. We shall see! That all said this definitely feels like a worthwhile listen as I can just tell this inspired many moody goth albums to come!
Quite boring. Seems like they could have cut some of the repetitive stuff
Not my kinda music
This album is forgettable.
I never really understood what the fuzz was all about. There were some nice songs by The Cure, but overall at the time I found their approach to "melancholy" and "depression" a rather mediocre teenage phantasy of the real pain. These days I simply find them outdated and aged poorly and it definitely has not grown on me and it remains as it was: boring instead of melancholic.
Fine at best, not unique enough to be deserving of a 1000 albums list at worst. Probably helped the onset of shoegaze as a genre but who cares
It’s definitely stark, but it’s also kind of boring and rudimentary. The Cure needed this album to continue developing their sound, but I don’t think anyone really needs it in their life on a regular basis. Would rather listen to Joy Division.
It’s not bad just not my cup of tea
I just can’t get into The Cure
Meh.
Didn't really know what Gothic Rock was, so this was a new listening experience. Don't create much for the dark, negtive/morbid lyrics but the beats were OK. 2/5
Their second album - The cure hadn’t gotten to a place where I really liked them at this point.
I almost have no comment on this album. Just felt like a lot of nothing. 2 stars
I just can't get into the Cure. I appreciate it, but wouldn't choose to listen to it. 2/5
A bit dull
Boring
I can hear how this influenced an array of artists - gorillaz , U2, artic monkeys to name just a few — but I did not enjoy this at all. The vocals, when they’re even there, are tinny and thin. Listened to: hiking up Acatenango. Favorite track: The Forest (how fitting!)
I can’t think of a way to describe this album besides “mostly interludes.” It felt like I was constantly waiting for an actual song to start and it only did a couple times.
Picked up with The Forest. M is also alright. Others a bit homogenous/boring.
Nah, not for me. Never really liked The Cure beyond that song from The Crow.
Interesting in a way, maybe a lot better for just background listening, maybe for soundtrack type of stuff, but if you are doing something and have this in the back, it's alright.
Found this quite unremarkable, nothing jumped out as a good piece of music. Surprising.
Never was a Cure fan, and this one started out okay, but the more it went on, the more I didn't like it. I made it all the way, but won't be listening to it again.
I've never really known how to take the cure. Depending on the day I can find them incredible or awful. This album sits somewhere between the two
If it wasn't for the presence of their only decent song (A Forest), this'd be a 1. This album gets an over-generous 2
This album was boring. None of the songs stuck out to me, I felt like I was listening to the same thing for the whole thing. I didn't think the music was bad or something I couldn't listen to but my God it just never changed.
Listened to this while playing Imperium Classics. I lost. I don't blame the album...but it also didn't help. I wanted this to be more interesting, but it kinda fell flat for me. I'm sure there are other Cure albums that I would enjoy much more than this one.
Boring and monotone but not bad
Vähän tylsähköä. Ei nyt sillein älyttömän huonoa, mutta en nyt näe kauheen erikoisena. Kevyttä rockia. Parhaat: A Forest, M, Seventeen Seconds
House music. But it sucks. It sucks.
Very average house music that I would play at a party where I'm hoping everyone leaves early.
Boring
Kinda mid
Wanted a whole lot more from this one - liked the spooky, off-kilter ambiance in the instrumentals, but there’s little thematic direction and the LP kind of loses itself. It just ended without much fanfare and I wanted more!
Forgettable
4 stars for life on mars alone. What a song.
I'm not sure why this Cure album was picked, I am not a huge cure fan but isn't disintegration a much much better album?
I don't think I am much of a fan of the Cure, but I really disliked this album more than I expected
I was really disappointed in this album and wish is was only 17 seconds long. It's sad and boring. Not their best work at all.
2/5. I thought there was a valiant effort, simple yet innovative. The goth new wave scene feels in its early stages and I appreciate the creative ventures but it does not age well. It's not terrible to listen to but not super enjoyable either. Below average in my opinion.
Meh, the Cure …..
A Forest is the only redeeming song in this album for me. Sorry Robert Smith.
Definitely a vibe on this record - minimal, stoic, dark. A Forest is the standout track; the synths and guitars sound great, and the song has some memorable melodies and harmonies (which the album for the most part lacks otherwise). Ultimately - the album is just too one-note to make for a great album experience.
This album, while The Cure is wildly popular and nostalgic, did not do it for me.
Maudlin and repetitive. The worst of 80s emo indulgencies.
Fine - no major thoughts on this one. I would not be drawn to listen again but it did not bother me
I still don't like that genre, but I'll keep trying it out.
From everything I had heard from The Cure, I expected this album to be depressing. What I didn't expect it to be was boring. But with the exception of A Forest, that's what it was. Perhaps you have to be in a suicidal funk before you can appreciate it, I don't know. But if you're looking for interesting music or lyrics, this isn't it.
Previously rated: Pornography (2/5) ********************* I called the Pornography album "echo-heavy, depressing sounding muck." This one wasn't quite that bad, but still nothing very good either. There's nothing that sounds like their hits. I immediately played Boys Don't Cry after listening to this and wondered why nothing on the album was anywhere near this good.
Honestly, I listened to it twice and felt similarly both times… it’s fine, but kind of boring, unmemorable, and uninventive. The Cure has better stuff. I liked a few of the songs, but overall I was unimpressed… I prefer their poppier stuff.
I much prefer the cuts I've heard off of Disintegration to what is presented here, but this album's brevity is certainly to its advantage. I never felt particularly bored listening, and tracks like A Reflection, which reminds me of certain pieces of the Fate/Stay Night OST, and the biggest hit on the album A Forest were definite highlights. However, I don't think full records of this post-punk/new wave sound (WHAT is even the difference man) are my cup of tea. I hope the inevitable Disintegration appearance can change my mind.
Etwas eintönig aber mit Fluss
The Cure was around in 1980? I like their later work, but this didn’t really speak to me so much. I enjoyed the penultimate song a lot
No words Bleh boring
Pretty dull album, nothing I'll revisit outside of possibly A Forest. Middling 2.
I was never into the Cure. It's fine. I like a lit of stuff influenced by the cure.
This gothic, dark sound must've been really new back in the early 1980s. Still, I found this album pretty boring, and I didn't like some of the production, songwriting and singing on this album...
like listening to the same song 10 times...
I quite like The Cure but this is a poor effort. It felt really lazy compared to what they're capable of.
Stone cold two. Thought about an added star for them not liking Morrissey and it being short but couldn't.
No matter how hard I try I cannot enjoy the Cure. The music is great, but the vocals just grate against my ears. I’ve tried many times to give this band a chance and I just can’t seem to figure them out.
Lots of okay. Nothing particularly special.
The end was way too repetitive.
I understand why this was great for the time, it just isn't my vibe.
There’s a high barrier of entry to old Cure albums for me. They’re always mixed so flatly that the instruments kinda sound like MIDI (especially the drums). Robert Smith sounds like he’s singing into one of the drum mics from across the room, and two chords over and over on the guitar gets kinda stale after a couple minutes, even when they turn the chorus pedal all the way up. I guess I’d throw this on if I wanted to feel like I was in a Halloween store or something. Maybe I’ll warm up to it later in life.
I found it hard to hear Mr. Smith in this album. The intro was really nice and had my excited for a sick album that never came. The forest was a good one tho
I know Keiko and Victoria love them, but the Cure are just too slow for me. Was an eh album. Liked the ambient backgrounds though
Forgettable.
I prefer other albums from them
I don't like the singer's voice, and while I was surprised to find out the album was released a good 5-10 years ahead of my estimate, I still don't see it as more than an ok sounding but kinda darker disco album
não é um genero que estou habituado a ouvir mas é interessante o album, a intro não é de todo a melhor musica, é um hit or miss e para mim é um miss melhores tracks: secrtes//in your house//a forest 5/10
That's how long this album should have been.
A Forest is one of my favorite Cure songs. Not really into the rest of the record.
This album feels mostly instrumental even though only 2 songs are without lyrics. I think it sounds unfinished, it is enjoyable moment to moment but doesn't feel like a finished album.
it was lame
Was just as I remembered from the 80's. Still didn't move me much. This album was heavy on the instruments and very few lyrics. Early in their evolution as a band, this album didn't move the needle for me.
Monotematico, non ho apprezzato molto. Rende l'idea di ansia ma diventa noioso
I like but don't necessarily love The Cure, and it sounds like they were still searching for their sound on this early effort. Most of the time, I found myself wondering what Robert Smith will look like when he's 70 years old. Does he still go with that Edward Scissorhands goth look? At this writing, dude is close to 65 years of age and apparently still going with that ensemble. Christ, even members of Kiss make appearances without their makeup occasionally. Who's Robert Smith trying to fool at this point? And why does it seem like there as many Cure albums on this list as there are say Bowie and Dylan albums? That's not true, there are "only" something like 3 Cure albums on this list, which seems high. I think "one" is the appropriate number of Cure albums to put on a list like this.
The Cure is not for me. There was very little about Seventeen Seconds that appealed to me. Even the most popular track, A Forest, barely raised an eyebrow. Next.
Perfect for a rainy day because it’s pretty sad and slow. Not my favorite from them.
37/100 Based on this scale: 1 star - 0 to 19 2 stars - 20 to 39 3 stars - 40 to 59 4 stars - 60 to 79 5 stars - 80 to 100 Not bad, but the band got better a bit later on.
It was okay. Definitely has a vibe to it.
Felt empty to me, with no feeling or emotion. That might be the objective but it is not my kind of thing.
boring
Gloomy 80s post-everything.
Classic, great, very very good rock
Boring
A Forest and a couple of other songs caught me, but the rest is too thin and grey. Has anyone written an essay on thin-sounding guitars in post-punk, the good and not-so-good?
I heard the entire album and didn't even realize. Songs are good but the album itself is not
Nice base but meh. Nothing particularly caught my ear. I wish more songs had lyrics to them.
Good background music. Nothing to obsess over though
Very instrumental, didn’t really get with it too much but maybe in the right setting.
I know the cure from their '92 album and I thought they were a 90s band. Woah... guess I don't know them like I thought so blind album for sure, maybe artist? And now I know why I didn't know them or listen to them. Just not a fan...
While I like the aesthetic, this album was fairly boring.
di ko bet haha
I tried multiple times. forgettable
Why this album? The Cure have much better albums than this. This one isn't bad, but it's not much more than background music.
Ik vind het album niet best, er was maar een liedje op het album wat ik zelf echt leuk vond.
Couldn’t get into it
Never really cared for the Cure
Its the cure, but I wasn't necessarily loving it
2/10 could not get into this
I found it pretty boring and samey
Was alright
Not their best ino
I like it when The Cure sings. They really didn't on this. It was like an entire album of B side experimental music.
ROOooonffflmimimimimiROOOoooonflmimimimimi on sfait chier
Borrrrringggg
제 취향은 아니군요.. 더 신나는 걸 원해요
I'm a fan of The Cure but I found this album pretty underwhelming, especially compared to the albums Robert Smith said inspired it. It feels very one note to me, like Joy Division without the punch, just kind of dark and droning for the most part. There are some exceptions, 'A Forest' is a pretty great track. Standout Tracks: Play for Today, A Forest
Nothing outstanding for me
I try to like The Cure but this album just doesn’t do it for me.
I always found The Cure to be one of the most overrated bands in history. Had never heard a single song by them that I actually liked. This album changed that a little. The first song, which was an instrumental, so I guess not having to listen to his voice was a big plus there. There are a couple of other songs that would have been improved immensely if they remained instrumentals. "In Your House" was also good. Other than that this album is still trash.
Meh. I'm moody in 1980!
Doomer music all sounds the same to me
eh
I don't think this is the one with Friday I'm in Love, but it is Friday! I am not in love with this album unfortunately
Not a bad album but not got a lot to it...
The first song was super 80s and extremely catchy, and everything up until the last song was ass. I actually like the last song the most due to just the somber vibe and catchy chord progression. Overall very disappointed.
I like his pop songs
Robert Smith is a cool guy but I just can’t get into The Cure. It’s just not that exciting and doesn’t resonate with me. All the songs sound roughly the same and the lyrics are nothing special.
Decent; 2.5 rating if I could. Probably go with 2
Not great, no stand out tracks. All just fine
Chillig
Not really my thing, a solid number of the songs could be on a Halloween album and I wouldn’t have noticed.
There are quite a few songs by The Cure that I really enjoy. Unfortunately, this album didn’t add to that catalogue. Mostly just boring, to be honest. Best tracks: In Your House, Seventeen Seconds Worst tracks: Who’s to say? I involuntarily zoned out for most of it, both times I listened.
Turns out I’m not that into goth. The Cure are overrated and Robert Smith is annoying. Next.
As Cure music goes, this isn’t bad, it’s moderately, cohesive and listenable, unlike some of their later stuff. You can see where they were heading from listening to this, they remained at this level then I most probably would have listened to more of their music, but where they went from here was a little too “cure “from me
Very strange minimalist and atmospheric album with very repetitive guitar leads and new wave vocals, synths, and drum patterns. Not what I was expecting and also not the easiest listen. Not a big fan, I think you have to be in the right mood for this one.
Only knew the singles before and this was rather underwhelming Like a first draft for a bloc party album - and I’ve never liked bloc party
I’m not ashamed to say “I prefer their later stuff.”
It was okay, the short runtime meant it passed by quickly, nothing stood out, nothing offended, would be a 2.5 if it was available.
I thought I hadn't listened to a Cure album before but apparently Disintegration was album number 12. I gave that 3 stars which in hind sight was too generous. I'd hoped The Cure would be more interesting. Unfortunately it's a fairly quiet and moody album where the lyrics are drowned out by uninteresting music. Highlights were "A Forest" and "Play for Today".
Really boring
I usually like the cure but this was pretty boring
I was here for the vibes…not much else
Not a bad album but overall it felt pretty boring. Not as vocally strong as disintegration but better than pornography. This felt like a lofi/mild emo album. I could see how the killers may have used this album for their early stuff. To me though I didn’t love this one. 5.0/10
Vähän tylsäksi jää näin ensikuulemalta. Kenties tulevaisuudessa opin arvostaa. 2/5
Interesting experiment, but I still don't get them.
Tylsä ja turhan taiteellinen
Just. No kyllä tää itsemurhaan inspiroi
This album felt pretty unremarkable to me 🤷🏼♀️
I listened through this album twice and to be honest I found it just bored me both times. The arrangements are nice but the mix is off. No real variety in the songwriting for the most part. The songs are somewhat nice sounding but very uninteresting. Maybe an album to listen to when you are in an extremely chill mood. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother. FAVORITE SONGS: - Play For Today 2/5
A bit meh, until A Forest. Lovely bass
I lived in a share house on Abercrombie St in the early 90s. A regular visitor to the house was Leon the Goth. Leon loved this record, so he used to throw it on the turntable regularly when he came over, but I haven't listened to it since. I had forgotten what a bleak record it is. It is certainly one of the foundational texts of goth in its sound and lyrical concerns. But, apart from A Forest (which is a great song), this album is incredibly forgettable. I don't understand why this album _and_ Pornography (also a super-bleak proto-goth album with almost no memorable songs on it), _and_ Disintegration (not much better) are all on the 1001 list, but albums with actual good songs (and hits, none the less) are not.
Wanted to love this and it had its moments but ultimately didn’t push my buttons
Some cool textures and dissonances. Very dark and moody. I like the minimalist approach but it is too static for me and drags after a while. Wish songs were more dynamic or had more development. Sounds unfinished or amateur to me. Wish there were some more memorable melodies to grab on to.
Some ok moments but overall what a drag
This just got worse and worse in my opinion. Couldn’t wait for this to be over
Probably one of my least favourite cure albums
Didn’t mind this - a mellow mood for a Tuesday morning. But have to say that nothing else on here reaches the heights of A Forest. Worth a listen for that track alone, but sounds like a band trying to find their feet after what was a stunning debut, and before they moved into their darkest phase. Of all of their albums to choose from for this list, this seems an odd choice, other than for the fact it contains their first big hit.
Bit underwhelming to be honest. I hold the cure in high regard but for me there was no memorable track on this project
This is a very dark, melancholic album, kind of similar in feel to The Smiths - The Queen is Dead, but much more polished. I feel like the album could have been wrapped up in 20 minutes if it wasn't for the sometimes needless 1 minute instrumental intros and outros. The album somehow feels unfinished by times (notably the end of the song(and album) Seventeen Seconds, where the drum track is still ending, and they just cut the music off early) . This also happens at the end of The Final Sound (here it seems like it was an attempt at a transition into A Forest, but it didn't really work). There are a few gems in this album, but overall, just dark and depressing. Favourite songs : A Forest (I like how they use reverb and feedback to sound like echos and wind in a dark forest), At Night, Play for Today Least favourite songs : Secrets, Three (in both songs the vocal track is basically whispered, and overlayed by music so that you can almost not even hear the words) 2/5
Not the first thing I would listen to unless I seriously wanted to depress myself. Though I did like More Than This.
A classic, but not something I enjoyed, the music is good, but just not doing it for me.
Stripped down doesn't always equate to a better experience, as evinced by this outing from The Cure.
Cure very much a hit or miss band for me. A few songs I really enjoy, a lot I don't.... This album didn't much for me. Liked In your house and 17 seconds. All others seen to run together. 2-2.5. Probably won't take the time to listen to again
more experimental than I expected none of their big hits are on this 2.5
He is an artist known but in this album I can't see something realy good.
The Cure is cool, but I'm not real familiar with their catalog to be honest. I just never really got that into them. Listened to this yesterday, but forgot to take notes. Now I honestly can't even remember what it sounded like. That can't be a great sign.
Just listen to 35 minutes of A Forest on repeat instead of listening to this album
Ni fu ni fa
I like this version of The Cure- the more melodramatic side from their earlier records (this is their second) before they started to get more poppy (I like the poppy version of them too). The third and fourth tracks "Secrets", and "In Your House" are good examples of this neutral / grey / mid tempo / lower vocal sound that I find attractive. The downside of this is that the tracks tend to meander a bit and don't often have any climaxes or dynamic changes. The song "Three" is painfully repetitive, and it's not the only one. It kind of typecasts the music for listening while you are a little bit down or on a rainy day. Unfortunately for The Cure, I listened to this on a beautiful late Spring / early Summer type of day and it didn't necessarily parallel my mood! I'll have to save it for the Fall. Ultimately I liked it but I question it's place on this list as there's too many tracks on it that I would consider "filler".
Forgettable for me
Meh
Disappointed in this one
I’m just not a big fan of the Cure outside a couple of their later singles. This album did not change that opinion. Not a bad listen, but very mediocre. 2
The cure just seem a band I can’t get into. This album didn’t do anything for me, kinda get why it’s on the list though.
It's just too damn whiney. It's mostly the singing but the instrumentation contributes as well.
Nah, not for me thanks. Influenced a lot of stuff I do like, but I just can't get past the weird vocals and droning backing tracks.
It's merely okay
-Kinda pretty darn boring not gonna lie. Just a kind of sad, ethereal vibe, nothing really stood out in my listen. Idk if I'm missing something here but I see no reason to even bother giving another listen to re-evaluate -I be listening to The Cure..."At Night" Some critiques of song names: -"Three is not the 3rd song -"The Final Sound" is not the final sound -"Seventeen Seconds" is not seventeen seconds long
AS close to wallpaper as The Cure gets. Uninteresting
Chilled, not the best album i've ever heard.
Kind of like sadder nirvana. Left a lot to desire.
Enjoyable
initial thoughts: had it on in the background while I was working and it kind of got lost. decent background music, especially because a lot of it was instrumental fav from album: in your house rate: 2.5
Best Song: A Forest. Driven by a bassline that keeps the song chugging at a decent clip, with interesting mixed and layered effects. Worst Song: Three. Sparse piano and unintelligible whispers that progresses into a Michael Jackson-sounding beat. Overall: Nearly the whole album seems content to sit in its own sleepy sadness. It isn't even sad in an interesting way. Just dull. Don't know what context I would ever want to listen to this.
Not for me, but better than the other Cure albums on this list so far.
I fucking hated A Reflection I also don't typically like 80s rock and I don't think this is an exception lol One thing I thought was interesting is the vocals from Play for Today reminded me a bit of the emo music I listened to in the mid 2000s
I love the signature Cure sound but this album was too much of it. It almost felt like one long song and there was hardly any excitement behind it.
Mostly depressing
not what i expected from the cure. not having robert smith sing helped
Not my vibe
Meh. Pretty far from my taste range. Similar music style once heard in some off-line games I think.
Boring. Music is fine, but slow at times. Could use some vocals.
Not impressed
boring, nothing even happens.
Too dark, no meaning.
No le presté mucha atención lo siento
An album with a catchy beat but really soft vocals for most of the songs. Other than "The Forest", nothing really stands out as spectacular.
Meh
Eh. Not my thing.
short album. Nice what? I am so confused I don't know what just happened
Siouxsie and the Banshees, but not interesting.
Gloomy & sparse. I find the intros to the songs catchy (esp the first two + Forest) but Smith’s voice over the minimalist tracks doesn’t do it for me in the long run. That said, they were a boon for personal hair care products in the 80s.
Sad core, jam band esque, vocals echo in the distance
I found it to be a bit grating.
Ok, not enthralled.
Meh
Kind of cool sounds in there, but overall kind of a drag.
Very meh. Unworthy of this list. The drumming was really boring.
meh
I liked it but not nearly as much as other The Cure.
Very eerie album. The singers voice is distinct and recording values clear. Fairly unnoteworthy (irony).
I still want to like the cure, but the reality of actually listening to them makes me bored and depressed.
Seventeen seconds is the amount of time I listened before checking out. It's a 35 minute album that feels much, much longer. Aggressively boring. Best track: M
What a strange listen. I know the band is capable of better songs, but it seems they aren't exactly going for songs. However, the soundscapes, while almost carried by solid musicianship, are too scattered and far outside The Cure's wheelhouse. The strangeness and some high points are enjoyable, but this would work far better as an outtakes disk than as an LP.
No not good creepy and not my vibe
A nice short album. I like The Cure but I’m picky about which of their songs I like, this album isn’t really it for me. Fav song is ‘Seventeen Seconds’.
The vocal seemed almost turned down low. Overall was not something I would listen to again.
no es para mí
i’ve always had a complicated feeling for the Cure music, it wants to be Duran Duran, The Cars and cyndi lauder with a mysterious flare. just can’t get on board.
Alright enough is enough. Out of the last 14 albums, three have been The Cure. One was OK, the other I was bored to tears, but regardless isn't this a bit much? This was the most boring of the three, so one star it is. I thought The Cure had a bunch of hits, but in three albums, I've heard maybe 2 or 3 songs I recognize. The rest sound mostly the same.
Not for me
Really liked the first album this though did not
Única canción interesante The Forest y otra más que es olvidable de todas formas. Si vas a hacer interludios que sean mínimamente interesantes.
17 seconds is about as much as I could handle of this whingey tripe. The fact that these are popular in the cultural desert across the Atlantic tells a sorry story
I was a bad goth. Robert Smith was too whiny for me.
Not my thing at all
I guess I liked this more than "Pornography," but man The Cure is not for me. Robert Smith sounds like he's mid turd-push with tears in his eyes, and this weird spooky halloween-goth-rock just sounds mediocre at best to me. Did not add a single track to my liked songs playlist.
1.3/5 I've heard a few of the cure's songs and i really like what I've heard so I was excited to listen to this album. I was severely disappointed. It was slow and uninteresting with no real "hits". I'm hoping there are some more Cure albums on this list and they can restore my faith in them.
A Forest is good, but the rest of.the album is so minimal that it's just boring.
i liked maybe two songs but i barely enjoy it. maybe i just wasnt in the right vibe for it
This album is so hard for me to get through. I listen to a previous cure album and wasn’t that big of a family. This album wasn’t even like the previous album. Think I’m just not the audience for this is not typically listen to I don’t wanna be too hard on it, but if you don’t have to listen to the skip it.
Inaudible lyrics and repetitive tone made for a rather unpleasant listen. Reminded me of a horror movie backing track rather than an album of standalone music to be listened to for pleasure. Again, not my cup of tea but appreciate the opportunity to listen to something I would have otherwise not come across.
Maybe because I'm not a depressed teen goth in the mid 80's on the west coast, but this one really didn't hit. Atonal, arythmic, and just anti-social. Did not enjoy the lyrics or the music really. Just kind of a wet bleeding out of an album. Which I guess was the intention behind it, but just not one for me.
Not my cup of tea. All very boring.
This album is simply not my jam.
Wish I liked it more than I did
Wasn’t feeling it. I like alternative but not this album
T7 liking this one, sounds more like the cure when they had a lot of their more popular songs and hits in the following decade. I put this on and I’m in the car with my mom and she’s seen the curr in concert like a dozen times and said this album is like the cure on heroin and not a great representation of the whole discography of the band. Definitely not what I expected from an album by them. Not a lot of memorable hooks. There was like 1 I remember well. I listened only once and think I’m gonna rate it after only one listen, prob j gonna clump it into the other 2 stat albums but from what I remember easily could go the other way.
sadly, this didn’t really work for me….
hindi ko bet, naiingayan ako...
Ich kriege mich hier nicht konzentriert bzw. plätschert es mir zu sehr dahin.
What is this dreadful music? I admit I've never listened to the cure before, although my ex used to rave about them. I should've known it'd be hot garbage... She had as much taste as a tongueless amoeboid with long covid. I'm told this is supposed to be clever and artistic, but honestly it just makes me want to drive a pickaxe through my eye socket. It's not just boring, it's also terrible!
I hate this shit fuckass music. Sing normal u freak. fuck the cure fuck the smiths and fuck anything else that sounds like this shit. Arctic Monkeys can fuck off too cause why not. (Skipped this album after 20 seconds)
This was such a terrible album, it was rambling, uncoordinated and a very bad listen
now now, don't be wasting my time like this
I'm pretty sure the person who mixes this did it in their parents garage. Was pretty bored while listening to it so I think there might be a reason I wasn't familiar with this album. Ended up half hearing it while reading then sat down to listen to it with Garret and started playing on my phone.
This just drones on and on and on and on and on. There isn't much here to say besides just being surprised at how boring this album was to listen to.
Not for me. dark gothic ambient sounding music that didn’t hit home.
BUTT. God this band sucks so bad. There songs r absolutely nothing. Liked the cover but wow I really don’t like this band
The Cure is one of those bands where if you have heard 4-5 of their songs, you’ve basically have heard the depth of all the music they’ve ever made. They are U2 for mopey people. This album is as deep as a kiddie pool.
Man their early stuff stinks
I always expect The Cure to be better than they actually are. Maybe I'm just not emo enough to enjoy it. Anyway, Robert Smith has had some really good tunes over the years, but not really from this album. When the greatest hits compilation only features one lonely song from this album, you know it was a dud. Oh, and they even shortened that one just to add it. "A Forrest", will make my playlist, but it's not great. This dark post-punk album is not for me.
Hat sich gezogen und war langweilig
Opening song is a bit tame "Play For Today": cool bassline, fun guitar playing, upbeat drumming. Nothing really happens in the song Ugh, this album just isn't for me it's a bit boring, and the vocalist is a bit whiney "A Forest" is fine, more dynamic song, understandable that this is the most popular song Will likely never listen to this album again 🤷
Not this crap again
Again, no hits. I get it; this is the breakthrough (sort of) album that is the godfather of emo/goth rock. But it's neither the best of emo/goth rock nor the best of the Cure.
